History Of The Catatumbo Lightning
People say that lightning doesn t strike the same place twice. Well, it s practically untrue since there is
a place on earth that seems to be like a lightning rod that lures in all the lightning in one place. In
Venezuela, there is a particular spot on a lake that attracts a whopping 1.2 million lightning strikes a
year. It s hard to believe but it s about 28 lightning bolts every minute. This amount of energy is
enough to power more or less a hundred million light bulbs!
This spectacular phenomenon is called the Catatumbo Lightning . Originating from a mass of storm
clouds at a height of more than 1 kilometer above, lightning, strikes on this specific spot, typically
over a bog area where Catatumbo River empties into Lake Maracaibo in the ... Show more content on

There is one instance that lightning strikes ceased to occur from January to March 2010 that
temporarily raised fears of the phenomenon being extinguished permanently but was later found out
that it was drought that caused it. Humidity in a sense may have played a vital role in the occurrence
but scientists lately say that maybe it s the region s wind patterns and unique topography that
contribute to the special phenomenon. They say that when warm winds, trapped by the surrounding
mountains in Lake Maracaibo, collides with cool air coming down from the Andes mountains, they are
forced to condense, thus creating thunderclouds.
A lot of the (lightning) hot spots are tied to features in the terrain slopes of mountain ranges, curved
coastlines, combinations of those, Dr Daniel Cecil from the Global Hydrology and Climate Centre s
lightning team told the BBC.
Having irregularities like that in the terrain can help generate wind patterns and heating or cooling
patterns that would boost the likelihood of thunderstorms.
Considering the incredible amount of lightning strikes, one may wonder if those are some kind of
extra special lightning of sort but according to studies, those lightning bolts is the same with every
kind of lightning that flashes all around the

How The Beatles Changed The World Analysis
On February 9th 1964, Beatle mania began. Over seventy million Americans tuned in to the Ed
Sullivan Show to see the English musical group, The Beatles. The host of the show Ed Sullivan began
to introduce the musical group but as soon as these moppy haired Englishmen joined the staged,
Sullivan s last words were drowned out by the screams of the teenagers in the audience. The Beatles
changed popular music of the time. They were one of the first rock an roll groups instead of a solo act
and they led the British invasion. As stated in, How the Beatles Changed the World, Jonathon Gould
wrote, The Beatles changed the way people listened to popular music and experienced it s role in theri
lives. (Sandler 22) The group was compiled of four member; ... Show more content on

Even though the population surveyed is less than one hundred I believe the data presented gives great
insight on the questioned asked. In statistical literacy, probability as well as mean, median, mode and
more are discussed. With probability we learn how to make predictions that are pretty spot on.
Probability is defined as the likelihood that a particular outcome or event will occur, as shown in A
Particular Introduction to Statistics. So now lets take a look at the data using some statistical analysis
concepts. First, lets determine the probability of receiving a correct answer or receiving a wrong
answer. The possible outcomes is either a correct answer or a wrong answer. Therefore, the probability
equals 1 (CA) over the total of possible outcomes which is 2 (CA and WA) and 1 (WA) over 2 ( CA
and WA). Both answers give us 1/2 and since they are the only possibilities they equal 1. In
identifying the middle or average of the set of data is known as central tendency. These measures
include, mean, median, and mode. Central Tendencies can be used in this research to see what the
average number of correct responses between the groups. First we put the data set in order form
smallest to greatest. Than we divided by the total number of data sets. Which gives a mean value of 7.
This shows that the average number of correct responses among age groups is

To Each His Own by Leonardo Sciascia
IB English 11 World Literature Essay To Each His Own
An anonymous person once said, Who gossips with you will gossip of you . This quote is saying that
whoever shares gossip with an individual about someone or something will not hesitate when talking
about the same person with another individual. Gossip is in no way a new idea, since many people at
one point in their lives have taken part in a conversation about another individual s personal business.
Every day, especially in modern day society, many men and women are susceptible to gossip and its
consequences. One major consequence includes false information being spread around, which causes
people to become misled; this may eventually cause loss of a person s reputation. The way gossip can
affect many different things is presented in a plethora of scenarios in life and literature. An analysis of
literary terms and techniques in Leonardo Sciascia s novel To Each His Own demonstrates the idea
that gossip in small towns may sometimes be extremely virulent since it is spreading false information
and can affect one s reputation through the vilification of that person.

The film is really showing the audience how a young girl gets murder gruesomely by a man that she
thought she could trust. Once the neighbor murders Susie he tries to go on with his life as of nothing
happens and no one grows suspicious of him. Susie was stuck in a universe where she could watch
over her family and also the man who brought pain to her family by taking her life. She then has to
decide to continue to get revenge on the man who took her life or let her family heal from her
disappearance. Some audience will try and say the film is over played, but the film has a deeper
meaning to it that should be noticed and acknowledge.

Discrimination In Military
Alex,
Being a United States Army wife, I can validate the regulatory methods in which the Army enforces to
ensure fair and equitable treatment for all service members. As a government agency, compliance is
heavily monitored and resources are readily available for those who encounter discrimination. Gender,
especially of women, is one of the most common forms of discrimination when determining
promotional rank, participating in combat missions, and employment opportunities with salaries
comparable to men (Rogers, 1990). The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights
Act (USERRA) is designed to assist those who serve in the military, an opportunity to reintegrate back
into civilian work and remain attached to the workforce (Karin, 2016). This law also provides
protection from discrimination due to serving the military, and dismissing service members without a
justifiable cause within a predetermined period of time, in which is typically 180 days (Karin, 2016).
Returning to civility in itself can be traumatic for service members, and adding the barrier of
discrimination causes even more harm. There are also laws that allow preference to veterans for
admission to college and employment opportunities, to assist with the transition. These laws are an
effort to ensure that veterans do not encounter discrimination when returning to civility. Also, due to
limitations on utilizing education benefits within a specified timeframe, veterans risk losing benefits
earned while sacrificing their lives for our country.

Country Music Has Gone Through Many Phases Of Different...
Country music has gone through many phases of different musical styles including the honky tonk
style and more modern pop country style. More recently, mainstream country has continued to define
itself through bringing all these different styles together and relying on each of them. This genre of
music faces issues relating to its original classification as being working class music , being in
opposition to homosexuality and its portrayal and absence of women. Often times I have heard people
say that they prefer all genres of music, except country. Growing up I always listened to country music
due to the fact that my mom and our family friends often listen to it, therefore I never understood why
it unveiled such a negative reaction for most people. Oftentimes I find myself excluding my
enjoyment of country music to others simply to avoid their surprised reactions. While I realize how
people may be closed off to country music because of the labels that have been imposed upon it in
common discourse and media, I often would like to point out that modern country music that is played
on the radio today is often very different from more traditional country music played many years ago,
and is not that much different from pop and rock sounds. These issues of class divide, homosexuality
and the role of women must be looked upon in relation to contemporary country music, which can be
considered a more relevant discussion. From country music s roots stemming from Folk and Blues

The River Between By Ngugi Wa Thiong
In the novel The River Between, Ngugi wa Thiong o expresses a strong moderate nationalist sentiment
displayed in various ways. The subject of this novel, is a meaningful portrayal of how the theme of
colonization is at the heart of most African literature written in English. The River Between was
Ngugi s first work to be published in his own language, Gikuyu and then translated into English. His
radical shift from the use of the European languages to the use of an indigenous African language,
Gikuyu, was a way of fighting imperialism: I believe that my writing in Gikuyu language, a Kenyan
language, an African language, is part and parcel of the anti imperialist struggles of Kenyan and
African peoples . The novel addresses the early days of colonial intervention and richly illustrates the
interference of the pre colonial tranquil tribal life style at the hand European missionaries and
colonizers . Apart from the novel s primary language of publication we see Ngugi s nationalist mindset
through the Kikuyu people and their actions throughout the historical fiction. The issues of cultural
and national identity are made obvious which tie into Ngugi s perspective towards the Europeans.
Furthermore, through the protagonist Waiyaki, we are further able to envision the aspiration to
overcome colonialism through his very own desire to unite the two feuding ridges at the time, Mukuyu
and Kameno. Most of African literature in the colonial and postcolonial Africa has been

found on their website. There is as well an interactive part were children with an adult help can make

at home but for the children of age 5 8 parents interaction would be needed. While further looking
how this could be brought in to a promises the idea came to mind. Rather than having the tool in
making mask or globe on line children could be doing it at the museum. There are no complicated
tools or objects involved in the process and children would not be proud in taking an item home and
sharing with their friends or siblings. This would as well show to parents that the museum is not just
about looking at the material collected. Children at the age of 5 8 are particular excited in showing
their achievements. The National Maritime Museum holds pirate day every Wednesday and Friday
and there are six sessions between both days. This shows that there is an interest for schools to
organise trips and bring children were they can become pirates for the day. Young boys and girls are

Jindal Moves to Strip Food Stamps from Abusers
Jindal Moves to Strip Food Stamps from Abusers:
This article provides the argument that the Governor of Louisiana, Governor Jindhal, plans to charge
the recipients of food stamp benefits in his county with fraud is justified if they abused the system
during a mechanical shut down. Apparently when the food stamp system shut down, it no longer
recognized the available balance on benefit cards. As a result, active participants were not only
allowed to use their cards for an unrestricted amount well beyond their available limit, but those who
were no longer active participants were allowed to use their cards for an unrestricted amount as well.
The governor s administration is suggesting that the minimum penalty would be 12 months off the
program to a maximum penalty of permanently removed from the program. Apparently, there is an
emergency protocol for stores to set an emergency spending limit of $50 to food stamp card holders
should the system shut down. Many of the larger merchants such as Wal Mart chose not to honor the
emergency limit and instead of rejecting use of the cards, they allowed unlimited use. Millholon
(2013) stated, More than 12,000 transactions generated insufficient funds notice once the electronic
benefits transfer, or EBT, system came back online Oct. 12, 2013 and retailers could process stored
transactions (para. 2).

of language and culture have been lost from removing the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children

Episode Of Doctor Who Or Phil Of The Future
It s completely inevitable to switch through dimensions with such simplicity. I mean, unless you re in
an episode of Doctor Who or Phil of the Future, then I guess you could say anything is possible. As
kids, we often think about getting in a time machine and flying through time, like endng up in the year
3000 or even way back in the dinosaur era. The whole aspect of it really seems fun when you expect
everything to go your way. Unless, of course, you re me, Camryn Matthews. On that bright Saturday
afternoon, everything was going great. Work was going smoothly and my friends were coming over
that night. Everything was going just as I planned. I was basically the type of girl to want everything
to go my way, but not in the super obnoxiously bratty way; in the stubborn way. Going out with my
girls was going to be a huge hit. Despite the fact that there is nothing to actually do in our town in
Florida, we are determined to make it one. As time rolled by, I was finally out the door; walking
unsteady while still trying to accomplish putting my heels on correctly. This was about to be the best
time of my life, or so I thought. Around 1 AM, my life changed in ways no one could imagine. Being
rolled down the hospital hallway, I had no clue what was going on. Shaking and trembling, I was
covered in blood. I asked the doctor, yet got no response. I slowly reached up to feel the back of my
head, curious as to what I would find, and there it was; an oversized, bloody hole. I

Michael De Santa Character Traits
The character I would like to be is Michael De Santa, one of the protagonists in Grand Theft Auto
Five. Michael De Santa is a slightly overweight 45 year old man. Compared to the other playable
characters, he is one of the least athletic, although he was a football star in high school. He usually
dresses sharply, and in the game, he usually wears a suit. His hair is black with a few gray hairs, and
he is 6 2. Michael De Santa is actually a fake name, and his real name is Michael Townley. For most
of the game he is depressed, lazy, and quick to anger. Most of this is because he thought moving to
Vinewood (basically Hollywood) would be his dream, but he ended up missing his criminal lifestyle.

The Relationship Between Henry And The Model E
Many of you may know that my wife, Karen, is obsessed with the theater and hence we see a lot of
plays. Columbus s CATCO theater group is putting on a play in April and early May, called Henry and
the Model E . We were intrigued with the title and did a little exploration. The E stands for Edsel and
it is about the relationship between Henry and son Edsel. As we know that was a rancorous
relationship at best. Rick has been worried that it would turn into a hatchet job on Henry. I gave my
business card to the CATCO production manager last fall saying I could get her in touch with an
unbelievable source for materials and history for that play. Never heard anything until last Monday.

Difference Between Daoism And Confucianism
Confucianism and Daoism Confucianism originated from Confucius and The Five Classics. The Five
Classics provided both the ideology and framework that informed government policy. They includes
the descriptions of deities, ghosts, and spirits, and the rites. Similarly, the primary source of
explanations, the Book of Rites, also explains how the rites serve the ultimate goal of Confucianism,
which is the creation of a harmonious society through careful self cultivation not for the sake of the
self, but for the sake of the society . The Classics make it clear that a peaceful and harmonious society
cannot be achieved without harmony in the family. The section on Principles of Sacrifice in the
Records of Rites explains that a ruler must have a wife to assist in both state and familial duties.
Furthermore, the king and queen were together responsible for making offerings at the ancestral
temple representing the imperial family. Interestingly, there is a balance of yin and yang, which is
reinforced by the first two trigrams in the Classic of Changes. Qian (Heaven and the creative) is
represented by three solid lines, while kun (Earth and the receptive) is represented by three broken
line. Confucius is revered as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is relevant because it acts as a bridge between philosophical and religious Daoism. It also provides
examples of the shared cultural beliefs and practices of Confucians and Daoists from the Zhou era. In
addition, Like the ideal Confucian ruler, the Daoist ruler possesses a virtue power that is capable of
influencing lesser persons. In sum, I believe that Confucianism is much more practical for the average
practitioner due to its focus on family. In addition, two key aspects of Confucianism are the
importance of filial piety or devotion and humaneness which is reflected in two characteristics. These

As I Lay Dying By William Faulkner
As I Lay Dying
William Faulkner
Entry 1
Beginning As I Lay Dying, I am already struggling with the dialect of the novel. This confusion is
deepened because I had no prior knowledge of the characters and plot. There are many characters that
Faulkner mentions in the first twenty five pages of the novels and so I was trying to connect the
characters and find out who was who. Faulkner also constantly refers to Addie as she . This confused
me at first because I didn t know who Faulkner was referring to and how Addie was related to all of
the other characters. I found that as long as I read very slowly and pay attention to detail, I can
understand the language of the story better than I expected. I was able to connect all the characters and

This is making the characters unrelatable so I hope that I improve on understanding the dialect of the
novel.
Entry 3
I find that I am having trouble reading some characters narrations more than others. Cash s narrations
are the simplest to read as his thoughts are fairly straightforward to follow and his narration doesn t
move from one idea to another. Vardaman, Dewey Dell and Darl all have narrations that are difficult
to follow because their thoughts move rapidly from one idea to another. Vardaman is a child and his
narration is the most difficult to understand because of the childish manner it is written in. Dewey Dell
also expresses very complicated thoughts. Dewey Dell begins her narration using only he to identify
who she is thinking about. She also continually refers to herself and him as a tub of guts. Darl is very
thoughtful and his thoughts move from one topic to something completely different and so I find his
narration very difficult to follow.
Entry 4
There have been many examples of animal symbolism in As I Lay Dying. I didn t understand what
Vardaman meant when he first says my mother is a fish (76) and later when Darl says Jewel s mother
is a horse (86). I went back in the novel and read about that the fish Vardaman caught was chopped to
pieces and no longer recognizable. When Vardaman says his mother is a fish, Vardaman is saying that
his mother is no longer recognizable to him

Buber And Arendt Approaches To Zionism
In my paper, I will be compared Buber and Arendt s approaches to Zionism. Although they both have
the same humanist perspective on Zionism, their approaches in their discussion of Zionism is
exceedingly different. Therefore, although both Buber and Arendt recognize the importance of
incorporating the Palestinians in the process of the creation of a Jewish state, Buber has a more
optimistic view than Arendt. However, both Buber and Arendt are critical of nationalism and
imperialist power s influence in the creation of the Jewish homeland. Accordingly, this paper will
assess both Buber and Arendt s views of Zionism and focus on their views of nationalism and the
influence of outside powers.
One thing that I believe is important is each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Buber and Arendt recognize that nationalism played a vital role in the creation of the conflict.
Buber recognized the rise of nationalism in Zionism and referred to as unambiguous demarcation of a
kind, a degenerated kind of nationalism which of late has begun to spread even in Judaism. (Buber 48)
Arendt and Buber were both concerned that Zionist movement would become exclusive and
unappealing. Buber stressed the importance of including the Arabs in the dialogue and not making
Zionism a repressive nationalistic ideology. Like Buber, Arendt was critical of the rise of nationalism
which undermined the original goals of Zionism. Buber was concerned that the nationalist
development would become a permanent fixture and would led to a downfall dyed in the colors of
nationalism. (Buber 52) Therefore, both authors were disappointed with the direction that Zionism
was going. Buber and Arendt s humanist Zionist view led them to hope for peace and cooperation and
dialogue between the Jews and Arabs.
Arendt recognized the dangers of nationalism that necessarily and admittedly depends upon the force
of foreign nation is certainly worse. (Arendt 344) A major issue is that asking outside powers such as
the British to create a Jewish homeland led to Balkanization in the region. Therefore, Arendt stresses
the importance of having an understanding that takes into account the whole region and it s needs of
all the peoples. (Arendt 345) Moreover, Arendt

Addiction As A Medical Disease
Addiction, defined as a chronic medical disease, has led to great furor in the scientific community.[1]
Some argue that because epidemiologic data shows that most addicts quit, possibly when faced with
social and financial consequences, addiction is based on decisions and thus, should be treated as a
choice. Those in favor of the disease model remark that because experiments have correlatively shown
that drugs can change the brain structurally and functionally, one should treat addiction as a medical
disease. One can expect from both perspectives, that the more important question is whether or not
addiction has a biological aspect to it that can be causally linked to substance abuse behaviors. In this
essay, we will review some of the compelling evidence on both sides of the argument and weigh their
significance in order to come to a logical judgment.
In Lopez Quintero et al., 2013, the purpose of their experiment was to 1) estimate the time to
remission 2) estimate the probability of remission and 3) identify predictors of remission. They
collected epidemiologic data for alcohol, cannabis, cocaine in adults aged 18 24 of the U.S population
in 2001 2002 by an interview from the DSM IV Alcohol Use Disorder and Associated Disabilities
Interview Schedule (AUDADIS). The questions asked participants when they stopped their
dependence and with what drug. In their results, they found that while the probability of remission in

Working Animals In The Call Of The Wild
Today, many people own dogs as pets; however, in Jack London s book, The Call of the Wild, dogs
are working animals. To humans, dogs are only servants. Two reasons for this are that humans don t
care about dogs feelings and that humans don t care if their dogs are in pain. One reason that humans
use dogs only as servants is that they don t care about dogs feelings. For example, Manuel doesn t care
that he is betraying Buck. London writes, ...Manuel doubled a piece of stout rope around Buck s neck
under the collar (London 1 2). This shows that Manuel doesn t care what happens to Buck after he
betrays him, and he only cares about getting his money. Furthermore, Perrault and Francois don t care
that Buck worked hard to earn the lead position.

Hilary Radner has noted Nancy Meyers as being neo feminist because of her view of heterosexual
men whom she often portrays as being highly disadvantaged up to the point of suffering a disability
and her obvious interest in older women who are portrayed as very successful career women (2011).
Her films which are targeting the female audience, as Radner observes, are combining two major
disabilities as impediments to love: masculinity and advancing age. Meyer based her film Something s
Gotta Give on her own experience as a singleton in her fifties, making Diane Keaton an even bigger
star persona who won a Golden Globe, an NBR Award and also a Golden Satellite Award for her role
in the film, as Erica. Keaton s character Erica Barry is thin and fit with a natural look and mid length
hair. When she appears in her date dress which is a classic little black dress (LBD was highly
popularized by Chanel) she catches the eye of both Harry Sanborn (Jack Nicholson) and Julian Mercer
(Keanu Reeves). Radner claims that Erica functions as an alter ego of director Nancy Meyers whose
stylistic choices somehow displace Keaton s established persona, as Keaton herself stated Clearly,
Erica is more Nancy than me (Hilary Radner, 2011: 175). The film tells the story of Erica, a divorced
playwright in her fifties who falls in love with her daughter s much older boyfriend, Harry Sanborn
who is a playboy known for dating only young women. Doctor Julian

The final sample population of 303 beneficiaries received palliative radiation treatment in 2014 to
bone metastases. Of those 303 beneficiaries, 24 beneficiaries (7.92%) had single fraction treatments
and 279 beneficiaries (92.1%) had multi fraction treatments. The majority were 65 75 years of age
(n=129; 42.6%) and 76 85 years of age (n=106; 35%). The mean age was 73.3 years, and the majority
were Caucasian (n=276; 91.1%). The majority of all radiation treatments are in the Southeast (n=123;
40.6%) and gender was mostly balanced, with slightly more males than females. Overall, in our study
the most common type of primary cancer to receive radiation for bone metastases are those with a
primary diagnosis of lung cancer. Table 1 titled Demographic and Primary Malignancy
Characteristics, provides a summary of the demographics.
Of the 25 beneficiaries that received a single fraction course of treatment, the most common site of
primary diagnosis was lung (n=10; 55.6%), prostate (n=3; 16.7%) and kidney (n=2; 11.1%). The mean
age was 74.5 years and gender was proportionate. The majority of patients were from the southeast
region (n=12; 50%) of the US. Most beneficiaries were in the age group 76 85 (n=12; 50%), followed
by 65 75 year olds (n =8; 33.3%).
Of the 278 beneficiaries that received multi fraction course of treatment, the most common primary

The s Gilliland s Six Step Model
Crisis intervention is designed to provide an immediate response to interrupt and reduce tpotentially
adverse, and on occasion, fatally harmful consequences. Its objective is to restore an individual s level
of functioning to that which was experienced prior to the events that triggered the crisis.
Critical to this process are the skills of the crisis responder in ensuring that the case assessment and
identification of factors that have resulted in the crisis are correctly identified and treated. An incorrect
assessment can be potentially fatal.
The affects of crisis can result in an individual reacting in one of three ways (James 2008):
Some are able to effectively deal with the situation and emerge stronger as a result.
Some survive the crisis but block the pain from their awareness which results in ongoing issues and
consequences that remain unresolved.
Others remain completely immobilised for an ongoing period unless they receive immediate
intervention and support.
In this particular case study the treating modality being adopted is Gilliland s Six Step Model.

Life Of Galileo And Top Girls Analysis
Life of Galileo and Top Girls
Life of Galileo and Top Girls are two plays that truly exemplify epic theater. They both tell stories in
order to call the audience to some form of action, and they both alienate the audience from the
characters. Epic theater s purpose is to cause the audience to think objectively about the play, to reflect
on its argument, to understand it, and to draw conclusions ( Epic Theater ). Therefore, for a work to be
categorized as epic theater it must have an argument or main idea. Not only must it have an idea that
drives the play, but the subjects of the play must be conduits to this idea. This is why characters in epic
plays are often detached from the audience. The audience is not supposed to be invested in ... Show

This devotion to ignorance, or denial of the truth is another theme in the play. In Life of Galileo,
ignorance is represented by the church and most of its members. Many of these figures stay willfully
ignorant despite being faced with Galileo s findings. For example, in Life of Galileo Galileo says, A
man who doesn t know the truth is just an idiot, but a man who knows the truth and calls it a lie is a
crook and Shutting their eyes to every fact and pretending nothing has happened (Brecht). It seems
that the political structure within the play advocates for the ignorance of people even though they are
faced with the truth, and that is one of the political ideas that Brecht is trying to convey with Life of
Galileo. Specifically the characters that represent ignorance of the truth are Clavius and Cardinal
Barberini, because they are confronted with and acknowledge Galileo s truth while still forbidding it
to be taught. They are the antithesis of Galileo and the ideas he represents. While Galileo represents
truth, they represent ignorance of truth. Because truth is such a broad and universal theme, Life of
Galileo has been adapted a few times in order to fit into different time periods and political
environments. Because of this, Life of Galileo is allowed to have a subtly different theme with each
adaptation. In order to be able to differentiate the ideas associated with Galileo and the character of
Galileo himself, Brecht has to alienate the audience

Development Cognitive Neuropsychology A Discipline
Introduction
Cognitive processes are described as the performance of composite cognitive actions. Notably
cognitive processes are operations that influence the content of the brain or the thinking process as
well as the remembering operation (Lamberts Goldstone, 2005). Cognitive processes are crucial
aspects of human behavior and are concerned with how persons utilize their skills. On the other hand,
cognitive neuropsychology is a component of cognitive psychology. Cognitive neuropsychology is
directed into comprehending how brain s function and structure are linked to certain psychological
processes. More significantly, cognitive neuropsychology studies the damaged brain cognitive effects
with the aim of inferring cognitive functioning models. Cognitive neuropsychology is a portion of the
extensive research field known as neuroscience. Neuroscience is multidisciplinary perspective that
combines numerous means of looking at cognition and human brain (Kaye, 2010). It is important to
note that evidence of brain injury, cognitive effects as well as the development of cognitive
neuropsychology is founded on patient case studies.

Life Of Pi Tiger Analysis
The world has seen all the hardships and struggles, wars and peace, death and births, but no matter the
struggle one has to face, no individual comes out being the same as someone else. The two texts, Life
of Pi by Yan Martel and Tiger by William Blake contain similar elements of pain and suffering.
However, through the symbol of tiger in both texts to represent these elements, the tiger breaks the
bond between texts when the realization sets in on how different the tigers truly are. The two texts
help highlight the theme of suffering and pain through the use of language and such stylistic features
as imagery to help portray the idea of a higher power in both texts. Sensationalism is used to explain

Humidity in a sense may have played a vital role in the occurrence but scientists lately say that maybe it s the region s wind patterns and unique topography that contribute to the special phenomenon. They say that when warm winds, trapped by the surrounding mountains in Lake Maracaibo, collides with cool air coming down from the Andes mountains, they are forced to condense, thus creating thunderclouds. A lot of the (lightning) hot spots are tied to features in the terrain slopes of mountain ranges, curved coastlines, combinations of those, Dr Daniel Cecil from the Global Hydrology and Climate Centre s lightning team told the BBC. Having irregularities like that in the terrain can help generate wind patterns and heating or cooling patterns that would boost the likelihood of thunderstorms. Considering the incredible amount of lightning strikes, one may wonder if those are some kind of extra special lightning of sort but according to studies, those lightning bolts is the same with every kind of lightning that flashes all around the ... Over seventy million Americans tuned in to the Ed Sullivan Show to see the English musical group, The Beatles. The host of the show Ed Sullivan began to introduce the musical group but as soon as these moppy haired Englishmen joined the staged, Sullivan s last words were drowned out by the screams of the teenagers in the audience. The Beatles changed popular music of the time. They were one of the first rock an roll groups instead of a solo act and they led the British invasion. Probability is defined as the likelihood that a particular outcome or event will occur, as shown in A Particular Introduction to Statistics. So now lets take a look at the data using some statistical analysis concepts. First, lets determine the probability of receiving a correct answer or receiving a wrong answer. The possible outcomes is either a correct answer or a wrong answer. Therefore, the probability equals 1 (CA) over the total of possible outcomes which is 2 (CA and WA) and 1 (WA) over 2 ( CA and WA). Both answers give us 1/2 and since they are the only possibilities they equal 1. In identifying the middle or average of the set of data is known as central tendency. These measures include, mean, median, and mode. Central Tendencies can be used in this research to see what the average number of correct responses between the groups. First we put the data set in order form smallest to greatest. Than we divided by the total number of data sets. Which gives a mean value of 7. This shows that the average number of correct responses among age groups is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. To Each His Own by Leonardo Sciascia IB English 11 World Literature Essay To Each His Own An anonymous person once said, Who gossips with you will gossip of you . This quote is saying that whoever shares gossip with an individual about someone or something will not hesitate when talking about the same person with another individual. Gossip is in no way a new idea, since many people at one point in their lives have taken part in a conversation about another individual s personal business. Every day, especially in modern day society, many men and women are susceptible to gossip and its consequences. One major consequence includes false information being spread around, which causes people to become misled; this may eventually cause loss of a person s reputation. The way gossip can affect many different things is presented in a plethora of scenarios in life and literature. An analysis of literary terms and techniques in Leonardo Sciascia s novel To Each His Own demonstrates the idea that gossip in small towns may sometimes be extremely virulent since it is spreading false information and can affect one s reputation through the vilification of that person. • 10. Discrimination In Military Alex, Being a United States Army wife, I can validate the regulatory methods in which the Army enforces to ensure fair and equitable treatment for all service members. As a government agency, compliance is heavily monitored and resources are readily available for those who encounter discrimination. Gender, especially of women, is one of the most common forms of discrimination when determining promotional rank, participating in combat missions, and employment opportunities with salaries comparable to men (Rogers, 1990). The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) is designed to assist those who serve in the military, an opportunity to reintegrate back into civilian work and remain attached to the workforce (Karin, 2016). This law also provides protection from discrimination due to serving the military, and dismissing service members without a justifiable cause within a predetermined period of time, in which is typically 180 days (Karin, 2016). Returning to civility in itself can be traumatic for service members, and adding the barrier of discrimination causes even more harm. There are also laws that allow preference to veterans for admission to college and employment opportunities, to assist with the transition. These laws are an effort to ensure that veterans do not encounter discrimination when returning to civility. Also, due to limitations on utilizing education benefits within a specified timeframe, veterans risk losing benefits earned while sacrificing their lives for our country. References ... • 11. Country Music Has Gone Through Many Phases Of Different... Country music has gone through many phases of different musical styles including the honky tonk style and more modern pop country style. More recently, mainstream country has continued to define itself through bringing all these different styles together and relying on each of them. This genre of music faces issues relating to its original classification as being working class music , being in opposition to homosexuality and its portrayal and absence of women. Often times I have heard people say that they prefer all genres of music, except country. Growing up I always listened to country music due to the fact that my mom and our family friends often listen to it, therefore I never understood why it unveiled such a negative reaction for most people. Oftentimes I find myself excluding my enjoyment of country music to others simply to avoid their surprised reactions. While I realize how people may be closed off to country music because of the labels that have been imposed upon it in common discourse and media, I often would like to point out that modern country music that is played on the radio today is often very different from more traditional country music played many years ago, and is not that much different from pop and rock sounds. These issues of class divide, homosexuality and the role of women must be looked upon in relation to contemporary country music, which can be considered a more relevant discussion. • 15. The River Between By Ngugi Wa Thiong In the novel The River Between, Ngugi wa Thiong o expresses a strong moderate nationalist sentiment displayed in various ways. The subject of this novel, is a meaningful portrayal of how the theme of colonization is at the heart of most African literature written in English. The River Between was Ngugi s first work to be published in his own language, Gikuyu and then translated into English. His radical shift from the use of the European languages to the use of an indigenous African language, Gikuyu, was a way of fighting imperialism: I believe that my writing in Gikuyu language, a Kenyan language, an African language, is part and parcel of the anti imperialist struggles of Kenyan and African peoples . The novel addresses the early days of colonial intervention and richly illustrates the interference of the pre colonial tranquil tribal life style at the hand European missionaries and colonizers . Apart from the novel s primary language of publication we see Ngugi s nationalist mindset through the Kikuyu people and their actions throughout the historical fiction. The issues of cultural and national identity are made obvious which tie into Ngugi s perspective towards the Europeans. Furthermore, through the protagonist Waiyaki, we are further able to envision the aspiration to overcome colonialism through his very own desire to unite the two feuding ridges at the time, Mukuyu and Kameno. Apparently when the food stamp system shut down, it no longer recognized the available balance on benefit cards. As a result, active participants were not only allowed to use their cards for an unrestricted amount well beyond their available limit, but those who were no longer active participants were allowed to use their cards for an unrestricted amount as well. The Classics make it clear that a peaceful and harmonious society cannot be achieved without harmony in the family. The section on Principles of Sacrifice in the Records of Rites explains that a ruler must have a wife to assist in both state and familial duties. Furthermore, the king and queen were together responsible for making offerings at the ancestral temple representing the imperial family. Interestingly, there is a balance of yin and yang, which is reinforced by the first two trigrams in the Classic of Changes. This confusion is deepened because I had no prior knowledge of the characters and plot. There are many characters that Faulkner mentions in the first twenty five pages of the novels and so I was trying to connect the characters and find out who was who. Faulkner also constantly refers to Addie as she . This confused me at first because I didn t know who Faulkner was referring to and how Addie was related to all of the other characters. Entry 3 I find that I am having trouble reading some characters narrations more than others. Cash s narrations are the simplest to read as his thoughts are fairly straightforward to follow and his narration doesn t move from one idea to another. Vardaman, Dewey Dell and Darl all have narrations that are difficult to follow because their thoughts move rapidly from one idea to another. Vardaman is a child and his narration is the most difficult to understand because of the childish manner it is written in. Dewey Dell also expresses very complicated thoughts. Dewey Dell begins her narration using only he to identify who she is thinking about. She also continually refers to herself and him as a tub of guts. Darl is very thoughtful and his thoughts move from one topic to something completely different and so I find his narration very difficult to follow. Entry 4 There have been many examples of animal symbolism in As I Lay Dying. I didn t understand what Vardaman meant when he first says my mother is a fish (76) and later when Darl says Jewel s mother is a horse (86). Buber recognized the rise of nationalism in Zionism and referred to as unambiguous demarcation of a kind, a degenerated kind of nationalism which of late has begun to spread even in Judaism. (Buber 48) Arendt and Buber were both concerned that Zionist movement would become exclusive and unappealing. Buber stressed the importance of including the Arabs in the dialogue and not making Zionism a repressive nationalistic ideology. Like Buber, Arendt was critical of the rise of nationalism which undermined the original goals of Zionism. Buber was concerned that the nationalist development would become a permanent fixture and would led to a downfall dyed in the colors of nationalism. (Buber 52) Therefore, both authors were disappointed with the direction that Zionism was going. Buber and Arendt s humanist Zionist view led them to hope for peace and cooperation and dialogue between the Jews and Arabs. Arendt recognized the dangers of nationalism that necessarily and admittedly depends upon the force of foreign nation is certainly worse. Addiction As A Medical Disease Addiction, defined as a chronic medical disease, has led to great furor in the scientific community.[1] Some argue that because epidemiologic data shows that most addicts quit, possibly when faced with social and financial consequences, addiction is based on decisions and thus, should be treated as a choice. Those in favor of the disease model remark that because experiments have correlatively shown that drugs can change the brain structurally and functionally, one should treat addiction as a medical disease. One can expect from both perspectives, that the more important question is whether or not addiction has a biological aspect to it that can be causally linked to substance abuse behaviors. In this essay, we will review some of the compelling evidence on both sides of the argument and weigh their significance in order to come to a logical judgment. Her films which are targeting the female audience, as Radner observes, are combining two major disabilities as impediments to love: masculinity and advancing age. Meyer based her film Something s Gotta Give on her own experience as a singleton in her fifties, making Diane Keaton an even bigger star persona who won a Golden Globe, an NBR Award and also a Golden Satellite Award for her role in the film, as Erica. Keaton s character Erica Barry is thin and fit with a natural look and mid length hair. When she appears in her date dress which is a classic little black dress (LBD was highly popularized by Chanel) she catches the eye of both Harry Sanborn (Jack Nicholson) and Julian Mercer (Keanu Reeves). Its objective is to restore an individual s level of functioning to that which was experienced prior to the events that triggered the crisis. Critical to this process are the skills of the crisis responder in ensuring that the case assessment and identification of factors that have resulted in the crisis are correctly identified and treated. Epic theater s purpose is to cause the audience to think objectively about the play, to reflect on its argument, to understand it, and to draw conclusions ( Epic Theater ). Therefore, for a work to be categorized as epic theater it must have an argument or main idea. It seems that the political structure within the play advocates for the ignorance of people even though they are faced with the truth, and that is one of the political ideas that Brecht is trying to convey with Life of Galileo. Specifically the characters that represent ignorance of the truth are Clavius and Cardinal Barberini, because they are confronted with and acknowledge Galileo s truth while still forbidding it to be taught. They are the antithesis of Galileo and the ideas he represents. While Galileo represents truth, they represent ignorance of truth. Because truth is such a broad and universal theme, Life of Galileo has been adapted a few times in order to fit into different time periods and political environments.
