Product Design Specification ( Pds )
Product Design Specification (PDS)
PDS stands for Product Design Specification and they are a detailed description of requirements,
dimensions and materials that will be used throughout the creation of the green powered car project.
Statement of the Problem
A statement of the problem is statement highlighting the issues that need to be addressed by a problem
solving team; this is used to get the team to work together on a common goal in the beginning.
The task we have been assigned for this project is to design and manufacture a fully functioning green
powered car which will be raced in the croft formula race. The subject my group has been given is the
electronics, this is a vital part of the car if we want to win due to the fact that ... Show more content on

Design to design a fully functioning circuit (Parallel or Series) which links all of the components
together, we need to make sure that the wires are concealed to ensure that the car looks aesthetically
pleasing.
Testing to ensure that the circuit works my group and I will need to run multiple tests, we will also
need to decide whether to use a parallel or a series circuit, we will choose a circuit type based on how
long the battery lasts and which circuit has the most power. We will also need to find the most suitable
places to put the components.
Manufacturing to be able to manufacture and create the designs we have produced, also each part of
the final product should be fully functional and contribute towards the finished product.
The main desired outcome would be to finish the green powered car with plenty of time to spare so we
can test it and therefore hopefully do well in the race. With all of our teams working together and
everybody doing their part I believe that this is a very possible outcome.
The People Involved And Their Responsibilities

Downs Syndrome Essay
Down s Syndrome
Down s syndrome is a genetic condition involving an extra chromosome, this change occurs around
the time of conception. A person with Down s syndrome has forty seven chromosomes instead of the
usual forty six. A relatively common genetic disorder, Down s strikes 1 out of 600 babies. In 95
percent of all cases, the disorder originates with the egg, not the sperm, and the only known risk factor
is advanced maternal age at age 35, a woman has 1 chance in
117 of having a baby with Down s; at 40, her odds are 1 in 34. (Graves, 1990)

should be removed early. Glaucoma is also common.
* Congenital Hypothyroidism: This condition is slightly more prevalent in babies with Down

*Congenital dislocation of the hips: Joint laxity and hypotonia can combine to increase the incidence
of hip dislocation, although true congenital dislocation is quite rare.
* Sensory deficits: Significant hearing impairments occur in the majority of children with Down
syndrome. Annual audiometry and specialist consultation is recommended.
* Atlantoaxial instability: Up to 15% of children with Down syndrome will have evidence of
instability of the atlantoaxial joint but in only a handful of cases will this instability result in an
impingement on the spinal cord with resultant neurological signs.
* Physical growth: Physical development is invariably delayed in children with Down syndrome. A
tendency towards obesity requires special attention to healthy diet and exercise habits in this group.

Zipcar Case Study Analysis
[Case: Zipcar] Zipcar s SWOT and financial analysis a) Strengths Firstly, Zipcar seized 80% of US
market share, making it the strong player in the market. Secondly, as the company is able to acquire its
competitors (Flexcar US, Streetcar Ltd UK), they can reduce the competitors as well as gain those
market shares and customer bases from those 2 companies. Thirdly, Zipcar s customer friendly and
disruptive business model is what makes it unique. They leverages accessibility, make it available

lots for its vehicles especially in densely populated cities such as New York and London. A start up
business may find it difficult to anticipate cost of parking. Moreover, there are different preferences of
car in different markets. It is hard for a start up company to meet every need of the consumers. Finally,
the limitation of technology makes it hard for a start up company to catch up with the big players in
the market. It s probably because of the limited capital and inability to access to such innovation. With
advanced technology, the big players can easily operate their businesses and provides much
convenience more than a start up company, which results in a great distance between them to catch up

Women Are Valued Differently From Men in Irish Society I myself have never been able to find out

even the roaring of the Celtic Tiger cannot drown it out. Women can vote, can serve as jurors, judges,

In hard cash terms, men earn on average, £1.83 more per hour than women do.
Women s work is still seen as that of love labour , that of working in the home raising a family and
taking care of the housework without pay. Men on the other hand are seen as the breadwinners, their
work is paid labour. Their job is to go out into paid employment and provide for their family.
There are two knock on effects of women staying a home minding the family. Firstly they are not
financially independent. They do not earn any money and are dependent on income received from
their partners. Because nobody gets paid for rearing a family it s status as an occupation is at the
bottom of the ladder and because women are dependant financially for money on their husband it
means they in the past have had less input into the decisions affecting the family resulting in no input
into the decisions affecting society. A woman s place was in the home. A second effect of women s
position in the family is that they are often isolated from each other and from society in general.
Unlike a worker they have little opportunity of meeting, sharing experiences, they on their own have
little power to change the conditions they find themselves in.
The family is a trap for women today as much as for women at the beginning of the industrial
revolution. As mentioned above, women are paid on average 2/3 of the wage that men are paid, so
within any partnership it obviously makes more

The Theories Of Schizophreni Dopamine, Glutamate, Brain...
The four theories that are behind the cause of schizophrenia as referenced in the PowerPoint are
Dopamine, Glutamate, Brain Abnormalities, and Nature vs. Nurture / More than one cause.
1. Dopamine
Definition
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter. It is one of the chemicals that is responsible for transmitting signals
between the neurons of the brain. However, very few of those neurons actually produce dopamine.
(psychologytoday.com)
Theory
The main theory concerning dopamine is that too much it can result in schizophrenia. Antipsychotic
medications that are used to treat schizophrenia block dopamine receptors. The purpose of these
medications is to bind the dopamine receptors to the brain, and some of their effects have helped
people cope with the symptoms. (healthcommunities.com) The regions of the brain that are affected
by dopamine are known as the striatum and the thalamus. Schizophrenia results have shown that in
these regions in the brain, there are altered levels of D2 binding potential. Patients that have
schizophrenia who do not take antipsychotic medications will have a lower thalamic D2 binding
potential. So, schizophrenia patients that go untreated have a higher number of D2 receptors in the
striatum. (psychcentral.com)
2. Glutamate
Definition
Glutamate is an amino acid that functions as a neurotransmitter. It sends chemical messages in the
brain by exciting neurons that are sensitive to it. It performs an important role in memory, brain
development, and

Organisational Theory In Organizational Behavior
Sociology, psychology, communication, management, economics and human resource studies are
fields that comprise of organizational behavior. Within each of the theorists preferred model of theory,
their basis for conducting research is to examine how individuals and their behaviors influence the
environment. As evident by the available literature, each theorist uses modern organizational studies in
order to understand, control, predict, and explain some phenomenon based on a particular need. In the
1900s, theories were formulated around production and economic goals. In the 1960 and 70s, theories
were heavily influenced by social psychology and quantitative research and in the 1980s, literature
then expanded to providing cultural explanations of organizations with influences from psychology,
sociology and anthropology, shifting from quantitative to qualitative research as an acceptable method
for conducting research.
The vast literature on organizational theory demonstrates that while there is no single way to structure
an organization, there are some commonly accepted general principles that can be identified. For this
particular literature review, my topic will focus primarily on the variation of productivity and its
influence in organizational theory as it relates to participant involvement, motivation and decision
making.
Classical Model:
Organizational theory starts general and moves to specifics. Beginning with the classical model, which
its organizations operate

Banning Smoking On Ohio University s Campus
Banning Smoking on Ohio University s Campus
Ohio University president, Roderick McDavis stated that We will join more than 1,000 campuses
nationwide who ban the use of tobacco on their campuses, (Lee). Banning smoking will help make the
campus area healthy by encouraging the smokers to quit smoking, Ohio University decided to ban
smoking on any campus property. The University campus will begin the Smoke and Tobacco Free
Initiative policy in August 2015. The policy will impose by using a community model (Hill, 2015).
This means that each member at Ohio University will be responsible for endorsing the policy.
Moreover, Ohio University hopes the campus becomes healthier without tobacco. This policy will
affect many on Ohio University s campus. However, the ban on smoking will be ineffective for many
reasons.
First, according to a Tobacco Free Initiative flyer, in order to ban tobacco, smokers should be given
the opportunity to be warned, given advice, or asked if they are interested in tobacco or not. When the
Smoke and Tobacco Free Initiative policy is enacted, the smokers may pull themselves from that habit
without any force. However, this may be rare and therefore may not be a success. The policy states,
Students and staff will be encouraged to remind anyone seen smoking on campus about the policy
(Hill, 2015), however application of this is simple not practical. For example, I am not a smoker, but I
am too shy, like many of my peers, to approach a smoker and remind

Social Class And Marriage In Sweat By Zola Neale Hurston
Social Class and Marriage
Social class and marriage are two aspects which the society has always held dear. The society
categorizes social class with what one earns. The people who earn more in the society are considered
powerful, and to some extent, they are respected more than others. On the other side, the people who
are not financially mighty are seen as the weak in the society. A marriage is considered a stage in life
which people should pass. Though the divorce rate is increasing day by day, the larger percentage of
the society believes that marriage is important and people should get married for recreation and
companionship. Some communities believe so much in marriages, and they consider them holy
(Hurston, 3). However, marriages have their fair share of challenges. The problems of marriages did
not start a few years ago, but they have been there for many years. What happens is that people are
different and handle challenges differently. Today, a marriage partner would rather walk out of
marriage rather than persevere and deal with the marriage issue. A few decades ago, people rarely
walked out of marriages, and some of them even lived in abusive marriages. Sweat is a shorts story by
Zola Neale Hurston which focuses more on social class and how challenging marriages can be.
Hurston uses the characters in the short story; Sweat, to bring out the aspect of the social class. Delia
is depicted as a woman who loves what she does. However, it is still apparent that

The Nature Of Rome s Relationship
On the Nature of Rome s Relationship to the Individual and the Collective Livy s history tells in detail
the events that sum up to the life of Rome, from its inception to Augustus rule. Not a modern
historian, his writing is a milieu of transcribed cultural memory, creative narrative and more legitimate
historical writing. While there are undoubtedly moments of falsehood, it is equally true that Livy
captured many authentic historical facts in his work. In addition, this text became immensely popular
after its publishing, and so the vast audience the book enjoyed may have transformed literary fallacy
into accepted truth. What is certainly true is that Livy was writing in one of the most tumultuous
moments in Roman history; for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Livy s History portrays in early Rome the superior power of individuals over the collective in shaping
the world, their ability to enact change they themselves desire correlating to their consideration of the
collective s interest. Opposition to such a claim might make the correct observation that, over time,
power appears to dilute, slowly acquired by more and more of the populus romanus. kings make way
for consuls, patricians lose political monopolies to the plebs, etc. While the number of people with real
political power does in fact increase, collective action is almost never the impetus for any action in
Livy s writings. To start at the beginning, it is a series of kings transform an empty land to a sizeable
city state. After much warring, Numa established treaties and tempered the overly aggressive Roman
with religion (The Rise of Rome 24). Servius Tullius created the census, perhaps the greatest tool of
Roman governance (The Rise of Rome 50). But there was king Tarquinius Superbus. Not only did he
fail to contribute to the glory of Rome, but did he not also fall into exile by the hands of a collective?

The Positive And Negative Impacts Of Immigration
Where did immigration start? Why did immigration start? Was immigration encouraged by our
government? What were the positive and negative impacts of immigration? Immigration has been
occurring for many years. Throughout history immigrating to different lands was very common.
During the early 1800s through the early 1900s, nearly 30 million foreigners were arriving in the
United States. In the late 1800s in a single year close to 400,000 immigrants arrived. During this time
the immigrants were helping shape America by supplying labor and industrialization. When people
were first migrating to North America as this country was getting started, the American people had a
very narrow mindset, therefore, as people from other countries migrated to the U.S. little by little the
country was broadened. The country was broadened along with the American people, their laws and
foreign peoples perspective of America. As the perspectives of foreign people changed migration to
America was encouraged.
First, before America was bound to begin: The Native Americans were here in North America first,
then the Europeans settlers came to this land and were taken from the natives. Many injustices have
occurred in history but this is how America was shaped to be the country it is now. Therefore, it can be
viewed in two different was in a positive and a negative way. For example, it can be positive because
through our past events in history we were able to become the country we are today. Although

Membership Women residents of the Stearns County Jail can be members of our group. This
population was chosen because we both thought it would be a new learning experience to work within
the jail system; in addition, our supervisor at the jail suggested that he needed an all female group.
Furthermore, we liked the idea of stepping outside of our comfort zones. We also though this group

Art And Three Elements Of Art Influence In A Restaurant
The painting I will analysis is painting 4. The painting has described the context in a high end

are lords. They are having conservation in the restaurant during leisure. It is noteworthy that some of
them wear heavy makeup.
Now, I will analysis this painting on three art elements and three principles of design. The most
significant element in this painting is color. Color acts as a vital role in many paintings. In this
painting, it depicted the atmosphere of the restaurant. Analyzing this painting as a whole picture, I
divided it into four corners evenly. The upper left corner is the group of people with two men at the
back. The upper right corner is the walls of the restaurant with two women. The hue of both upper
parts is tertiary blue green mixed up with little secondary orange. Despite this, blue green is still the
predominant color on both upper parts. The bottom left corner is the railing. The right bottom corner is
the floor of the restaurant and the woman with neutral black clothing. In regard to the details, the
outline of the railing is in tertiary red orange and the railing is in secondary orange. Among the group
of people, the men at the left and the woman in the middle wear primary red and tertiary red violet
clothing respectively. The major hue of left bottom part is secondary orange, tertiary red orange, and

Progressive Reforms
It is difficult to picture a city or town without a park or a playground for everyone to enjoy free of
charge. This thought is not as far fetched, as some might believe. The massive movement for
communities to provide public lands for relaxation, leisure and play has its roots in the Progressive
Reforms around the turn of the twentieth century. The congestion of urban centers and the fading
concept of child labor creates unintended consequences such as an increase in crime, lack of natural
landscape and no place for children to play. To combat this problem cities across the country begin the
process of implementing government inspired play to replace the open country that children
generations before used as their playground. There is a long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The sand gardens provided large piles of sand for immigrant children to play under the supervision of
a volunteer. Since the majority of these children s parents left them unattended while they worked in
factories. This is the first attempt at supervised organized play. The early inspiration of organized play
comes out of Berlin, the city provided public parks and sand pits for children to dig and play freely.
This idea caught the attention of Dr. Marie Lakrzewska and in 1885 he pens a letter to the chairman of
the Hygiene Association suggesting that Boston adopt a similar program that mirrors itself off of the
Berlin system. This idea does not catch on quickly and it is not until nearly ten years later that city
officials begin taking Dr. Lakrzewska seriously in his suggestion. Between 1894 and 1898, the
playground movement gains steam with the encouragement of social reformers and journalist. A list of

Mount Ruapehu Essay
The Māori definition for Mount Ruapehu is exploding pit of noise, a phrase that is suitable for the
2787 metre tall volcano. Mount Ruapehu is the highest active volcano in New Zealand and the most
dangerous of the Volcanic Plateau region, see figure 1. Often defined by its large Crater Lake, the
classic cone volcano is shaped by a layered landscape with a ring plain at the summits peak. All of
these surface features seen today, are the result and combination of internal and external geological
processes.
Mount Ruapehu is located at the Southern end of the extremely active Taupo Volcanic Zone, close to
the centre of the North Island in New Zealand, see figure 2. As a result of continental drift, volcanic
landforms are developed by collisions and movement of tectonic plates in the Earth s crust.
Earth is made up of five major layers including the inner core, outer core, mantle, upper mantle and
crust. The upper mantle of the Earth is a approximately 1100C, a temperature so hot that the rock
melts to form a molten layer, causing the pieces of the Earth s
crust to move and collide. Convention currents is a progression where hot magma from the upper
mantle rises towards the surface where it then cools and forms a surface skin, see figure 3. The skin is
pushed aside as more magma develops, then forced back under the upper mantle. The skin melts and
the process is repeated.

The French and Indian War and the American Revolution
At a surface level, historical accounts of The French and Indian War and the American Revolution are
presented as wars between two sides: The British versus the French and the British verus the
Americans, respectively. In each war the aforementioned opposing sides held the most crucial roles in
each battle that these wars lead to. However, in this essay I will argue the crucial role of allies of each
victorious side and how they were incredbily useful to the defeats of the British in the wildnerness in
1755 during Braddock s defeat and in Yorktown, Virginia in 181 durng Cornwallis s defeat.
Discussing the former, I will argue the importance of the Native American s as allies to France and
with the latter, the significance of the French as allies to the Americans. The aim of this essay is not to
argue that without their allies, the French and the Americans would not have won the battles but that
because they did have these allies, their victories occured faster, easier and with less conflict that if
they had fought without allies. Braddock s defeat in 1755 occured during the French and Indian War

The Importance Of Social Work For Refugees And Asylum Seekers
Social Workers have a duty, professionally and morally to support refugee children and asylum
seekers.
Social workers have a professional and moral duty to ensure that services are provided to those who
most need it. The duty that Social workers have toward Refugees and asylum seekers, particularly
children is strong but not often met. People s wellbeing is a key ideal within social work and is
strongly represented within the Care Act 2014, the earlier Children s Act 2004 is also clear on the
protection of children s rights in the UK. In the essay there will be a discussion on how in some areas
the statute is not strong enough to allow Social Workers to work properly, but also how there needs to
be changes regarding social work focus on refugees.
Recently, United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) has campaigns to help reform the UK s current
law on family. The law only recognises parents or spouses and civil partners as family. A child refugee
may have an older sibling, or more extended family such as an uncle but they would not be allowed
into the country under the Family Reunion rules. The dangers for children trying to reach family in the
UK are high and it leaves them at risk of exploitation, 78% of adolescents face some form of
exploitation whilst travelling the Central Mediterranean route to Europe, UNICEF (2017). Social
Workers have a duty here to protest the UK s laws, and the decision of the Government not to join the
EU s relocation scheme for Refugees. They did

What Degrees Are Important For Marine Biologists
Important Questions
What degrees are important for marine biologists?
Some schools offer a marine biology degree and most of these are located in coastal states, but the
undergraduate degree need not be in marine biology. It can be in biology, zoology, fisheries, or one of
the other animal sciences. Physical oceanographers, who study the physical as opposed to the
biological aspects of the sea, may work toward an oceanography degree, with coursework weighted
heavily in physics, mathematics, and computer modeling. Biological oceanographers study both the
biological and physical aspects of the sea and their interactions. Your best bet would be to refer to the
guides mentioned above and contact the schools that interest you and learn more about the programs
and degrees they offer. A bachelor s or master s degree is usually required for most starting marine
biological research jobs, but you should also be aware that the usual level of education required to
carry out independent research in biology is a Ph.D., so if you are serious about a full time career and
want to organize your own research projects, you should get your doctorate.

English is important, too, because one of the most important activities of a marine biologist is writing
scientific papers and getting them published. Courses in the aquatic sciences such as fishery biology,

instance, ethology if you are interested in animal behavior). Courses in the social sciences are also
recommended for occupations that deal mainly with the public, public policies, or

Genre Analysis Principles
In order to complete the DCR, it is necessary to understand a few key principles of genre analysis.
These principles include: Beaufort s five domains of knowledge, discourse community attitudes and
values, rhetorical and other textual features.
The rhetorical and other textual features can be divided into sub principles such as content, function,
format and different rhetoric appeals. For genre analysis, the content rhetorical feature is used to
reflect the textual organization of different components of said genre. For example, a research article
genre is highly organized, and arranged in the following sections: an abstract, an introduction,
methods, results, discussion, and references. This principle mainly looks at how the content and
material of the genre is displayed, and how this display is best ... Show more content on

The Wadsworth Guide explains how logos appeals to reason and logic, ethos appeals to credibility and
authority, and pathos appeals to emotions (page 183). These features, in the light of rhetor, are used to
see how the genre garners the attention of the audience.
Beaufort s five domains are genre knowledge, rhetorical knowledge, subject matter knowledge,
writing process knowledge, and discourse community knowledge. These domains are vital to the
process of genre analysis, and the one discussed in the Data Collection Report is subject matter
knowledge.
Subject matter knowledge pertains to knowledge of expertise for said discourse community. In the
genre analysis, we look at how the rhetor of the genre displays the extent of expertise about the
discourse community, as well as how the genre adds to existing subject matter knowledge.
The last section of the genre analysis was the critique. This section of the genre analysis pertains to
suggestion of possible changes in them by me. I based my critique on recommendations for genre
change in your analysis that would make the genre more

The Issue Of American Patriotism
Nationalism and patriotism is a very touchy subject for some people just due to the fact of everyone
having their own opinion on what it means. Some people just do not know the difference between the
two, or just don t know if there even is a difference. They are very often commonly confused as the
same thing and I can see why at first glance, but after searching this subject on many credible sources
I have come to find many clarifying and interesting facts on this particular topic.
First of all, the actual definition of American patriotism is the pride and devotion to one s homeland.
As everything does, there are pros and cons to being a patriot. For example, a pro would be that it
leads us to feel proud of and for our county. That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unless your knowledge is of a universal type, equally useful and valued anywhere; then it makes no
difference where you live, as long as you enjoy your life. Another being specialization; patriotism
instinctively guides citizens to discover their natural and cultural specialties: their own resources,
traditions, industries, and identity that has existed for ages. They will not imitate or copy another
country blindly. Loving a place makes one automatically love, learn, cherish, and improve the special
qualities about it/them. A couple of the others are commitment and security. Most cons of patriotism
fall under the category of centralization being harmful. They claim that the benefits enjoyed by
centralized countries will eventually be shared by everyone worldwide. They say that it is not a big
problem to desert some countries as long as citizens are happy and successful elsewhere. They also
claim that in over populated countries, or those with high unemployment rates, its better when people
leave. I do not neccesarily agree with all of this but I do think the majority of the claims made are true.
Nationalism has two definitions that basically mean the same thing but one is more easily understood.
The more complicated version saying that

The book Red Azalea written by Anchee Min is a true tale about her life and her upbringings. The
author was raised in Shanghai and was brought up being taught under the influence of Mao and on the

It does effect the story because it was a time of great struggle for many families and Anchee. In the

Overview Of Nursing Documentation
Documentation is a very important task that all nurses must do when working in the healthcare field.
Accurate documentation not only assures high quality patient care but is our best defense in a
malpractice lawsuit. Avoiding malpractice by proper and complete documentation is about more than
just avoiding a lawsuit making it to court; it is about avoiding the litigation process entirely. We need
to remember that documenting has to be legible, complete, and thoughtful to prevent risks for
litigation. A patient s chart is a medical and legal document.
When documenting, nurses must keep in mind that the information has to be complete, correct, and
timely. Incomplete, misleading or missing documentation create problems when presented as evidence

When possible, you should avoid documenting by exception (a quick method commonly used to
document normal findings that includes defined normals) i.e. a care activity is assumed done unless
charted otherwise (Proactive prevention, 2016), because this can be considered as careless
documentation, leading to unclear communication. We need to remember that documenting has to be
complete and thoughtful to prevent risks for litigation. Again, a patient s chart is a medical and legal
document.
My example of correct documentation that I am going to use today is based on my recent experience
in the CVOU. I took care of one of my nurse s patients through the entire cardiac procedure. All my
interventions were important, so I documented them as soon as they were done. During post
procedure, I had to assess the patient s femoral incision site for bleeding and swelling or hardening,
legs for color and edema, and pedal and popliteal pulses q15 min x4 and q30 min x2. Although, I was
taking care of another patient at the same time, I kept in the back of my head the need to assess my
primary patient during each time frame, and documented my findings right away, which takes only a
minute or two so there was no delay documentation, which may have led to

The Lindsay family is a total of five: Chris, Kristy, Christopher, Gabrielle, and Zoi. They have faced
several deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Also, the father, Chris, has recently arrived back to his

that develops when people have experienced a traumatic event. Mr. Lindsay (2017) stated, I
sometimes relive the moments that my friends have passed right in front of me. While sitting there
listening, it was heartbreaking. In the life of someone with PTSD, they tend to be on edge quite a bit.
Chris has left birthday parties immediately because a balloon popped. Also, when his children are
being really loud he calmly tells them to settle down, and sits out side until he is ready to return.
Although he has coped efficiently with this disorder, many PTSD victims cope with their disorder
with alcohol, drugs, and abuse. However, I will say that this family has coped really well with this
situation. Also, another big difference is that they have a smaller family than mine, but they want it to
grow. So, therefore, there are a lot of differences between the Lindsay family and my family.
Comparison and Differences To add, there are a lot of similarities and differences between both
families. My family is very close to each other, and theirs is too. Also, we both enjoy going on

The Outsiders Reflection
In the novel The Outsiders, one of the many thematic statements is that people become trapped on one
side of an argument. They only see from one perspective and fail to see the other side. The paragraphs
below illustrate when and how Ponyboy changes his perspective, understands the other side, and
gradually breaks the barrier between the Socs and greasers.
Ponyboy started to learn that not all Socs were arrogant and violent when Dally took the gang of
greasers to the movie. Coincidentally, this was the day after Johnny got jumped by a group of Socs.
They saw 2 girls named Marcia and Cherry who were Socs. Dally asked Cherry and Marcia if they
wanted cokes. Marcia took the Coca Cola, although Cherry didn t. Afterwards, Cherry asked if
Ponyboy wanted to go get some popcorn and they started talking and chatting. While the were
chatting Ponyboy told Cherry what had happened to Johnny. Through that conversation Cherry was
able to convince Ponyboy that not all Socs were violent and arrogant. From my perspective I think
that Greasers and Socs weren t really all that different. Moreover, Ponyboy never actually knew what
the Greasers had done to the Socs. For example all Socs aren t like that, she said.
You have to believe me, Ponyboy. Not all of us are like that.
Sure, I said.
That s like saying all you greasers are like Dallas Winston. I ll bet he s jumped a few people.

Journey Of The Hero Journey
The journey of the hero is about the courage to seek the depths; the image of creative rebirth; the
eternal cycle of change within us; the uncanny discovery that the seeker is the mystery which the
seeker seeks to know. The hero journey is a symbol that binds, in the original sense of the word, two
distant ideas, and the spiritual quest of the ancients with the modern search for identity always the one,
shape shifting yet marvelously constant story that we find. This journey will go with Duk thul/Dirty
skin. At the beginning Duk thul was lazy and dirty person. He did not do anything everyone called
him Duk thul/dirty skin because he would just sleep all day and he was dirty. No one knew that he was
doing at night when everyone fell asleep. The first stage of the cycle is The Orphan . Orphan may feel
like an orphan; alone, unloved, or confused. In Duk thul/Dirty Skin; there are 4 brothers who were the
sons of the village. One day, one of the brothers, for reasons no one knows, decided he wanted to be
different than his brothers. He could not be like them anymore . One day, this brother, dragging his
blanket behind him, went to the fire and lay down in the dirt next to the fire, covered himself up with
his blanket, and went to sleep; right in the middle of the day while everyone else was working. No one
understood, why he was doing what he did. This next phase has the orphan looking for the answers to
their big questions, but they don t know where the answers are at.

Labels distinguish individuals in everyday life; if 2000 people from across the world were randomly
selected and put into categories of hair colour, none of them would share exactly the same shade of
colour. Despite this continuity humans still continue to assign each other to discrete hair colour
categories such as blonde or brown which have no basis in biology but still go on to determine how
that person is thought of in society. The American Psychology Association (APA) provides guidelines
for researchers to follow in both research and writing scientifically in order to avoid any form of
labelling bias when referring to participants or groups of participants. These guidelines are in place to

Boroditsky, Wade, Wu, Frank, Witthoft and Winawer (2007) established the importance of precision in
labels by studying the difference in response between English and Russian speakers in distinguishing
similar but subtle different shades of blue. In Russian there are many words for blue as they divide the
spectrum into lighter blues goulboy and darker blues siniy but in English there is only one single word
for the colour blue. Due to this difference the Russian speakers were quicker to distinguish between
the colours as they had readily available labels unlike the English speakers.
Labels have the ability to control more then just conscious perception but they can also change how
we perceive more complex things like people subconsciously. Jennifer Eberhardt (2003) showed white
college students pictures of a man who was racially ambiguous. For half of the students the face was
described as white and for the other half he was described as black . In one task the experimenter
asked the students to spend four minutes drawing the face while it was on the screen in front of them.
Although all the students were looking at the same face, those who were told that the face belonged to
a specific race tended to draw the face with typical stereotype features associated with that race. This
demonstrated that the students were unable to identify the subject as a individual after the label of his
race was assigned to him.

role in the failure of the operation. The plan for the armored advance required the XXXth Armored
Division to move the sixty five miles up a narrow two lane road bordered by farmland that had been

From the beginning, things went wrong for the division. During the transit to the landing zone two of
the gliders were lost, these gliders contained anti armor guns. Missing the landing zone, the British
soldiers landed too far from the bridges. The additional distance needed to reach the bridge allowed
the German defenders time to prepare. Despite this, the 1st Airborne Division was able to take the
northern end of the Arnhem Bridge. A combination of German preparation time and the lack of
sufficient British numbers prevented the capture of the Southern end of the bridge. This left the British
troops in between two forces. The second wave of airborne set to arrive the next day and reinforce the

Monday 18th September, the weather effectively disrupted much of the air operations and the take off

Number one was one that had a lot of emotional impact that was taking place throughout the duration

melody of the song depending on who is dominant at certain points of the song. Fredrick is more

There was a tone color of purple because it was very shocking what was being said, but the paradox

The melody that was used in number two was used by expressing different pitches. This in relation
into which one of the character was singing at the time. During the duration of this song, the
performers were the Pirate King, Frederick, and Ruth. In coalition to this, the harmony are the sounds
that were sounding simultaneously and throughout this song, the performers would sing together.
There were also times were Ruth was in more of the background which was used to create a different
melody. They also used rhythms that are known throughout the song. For example, at one point it
sounds like a circus theme song. This is used to show how this scene is intended to be one where there
is humor expressed. They are laughing and enjoying the time because Frederick is finding out that
because he was born on Leap Year he is actually only five years old. The meter that was used in song
number two was one that fluctuated depending on what the song was saying. There was no set meter
that it was focused on being. For this song, the texture is also polyphonic because they are singing the
part about paradox at the same time and it shares importance with one another. The dynamics are used

Social Media Is Not The Only Reason For The Privacy
Privacy, it is the one thing that we seem to not have enough of. But the question must be asked, Whose
fault is that? The answer is quite simple, ours. Social media is the number one cause of lack of
privacy. It is something about social media that make us loose our sense of reason and place all sorts
of personal information on the Internet for all the world to see. But, social media is not the only reason
for the privacy breech. There are many reasons, and computer hackers are just one. Our email
information is sold, bank loans, mortgages, and the list could go on and on.
Computers are one of the world s greatest inventions, and sadly, one of the worst. Thanks to
computers, there are so many things we can do from the comfort of our own home. We can do our
banking online, pay our bills, go to school, look for jobs, and so on. Computers have made us all lazy.
They have also made us unconcerned, at least up until recently, with our privacy. We all know there
are bad people in this world, but it seems to be that we have forgotten that there are some very, very
smart people in this world as well. It took a very smart person to invent the computer, to figure out the
inner workings. But if one person can do this many can do this. Enter the computer hacker.
A computer hacker is someone who can break into your computer and steal whatever information you
have in your system. All of your private information that you think is safe, is not safe anymore. These

Consequences Of Texting And Driving
Wouldn t you agree that texting and driving is a big issue nowadays? Many drivers are so caught up in
their phones that they risk their lives and the lives of others just so that they could answer a simple
text message. Now that this problem is becoming so big, it should have severe consequences. People
who text and drive should get license suspension for six months and get $500 for the first violation
and $1000 for the second violation. People who text and drive can hit or even kill pedestrians because
of being distracted by their phones and not paying attention to the road. In the course of five years, the
national number of pedestrians who were killed or hit by distracted drivers increased from 344 to 500
people. If you think about it, many of those people who died could have been young children or
elderly people who didn t have a fault, but because of someone being so inconsiderate using their
phone, they killed these people. In 2015, 5,376 pedestrians were killed because of drivers who were
too busy texting. All those pedestrians who were killed did not think that because of walking
somewhere they would be killed by someone so distracted who didn t have the capacity to make sure
that the road was clear for them to keep driving. If this problem had further consequences, then many
of the people who died wouldn t be dead right now. Most of the drivers who end up killing someone or

Comparison Of King Lear And The Great Gatsby
King Lear and Jay Gatsby are both influential and wealthy men consumed by obsession and lose
everything in their desperate pursuit of love. This is their tragic flaw; and one that ultimately leads to
their demise.
Within Shakespeare s King Lear and F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, the following human
flaws are explored: obsession, greed, yearning, and loss. These flaws are a commonality between these
two characters. Although these flaws are standard for many characters among many genres, they are
unique only to Lear and Gatsby because they lead to their death. Lear and Gatsby share a dream of
power and love, but this dream slowly becomes an unhealthy obsession. King Lear is so blinded by his
love for his daughters that he does not see that they are only using him for his wealth. Jay Gatsby
shares a mutual experience; he is oblivious to Daisy Buchanan s materialistic and selfish ways and is
helpless to her charms. In Act Two of King Lear, the Fool tells the King ...fathers that bear bags shall
see their children kind. (2.4 49 50), a premonition that clearly illustrates how Lear s daughters love
him only for his riches. Both men are bound by their mutual suffering caused by the women that
dominate their lives. It is obvious in The Great Gatsby that Daisy Buchanan is a woman who only has
eyes for powerful men and when she realizes that Gatsby is a self made millionaire, she casts him
aside. The same occurs in King Lear; Goneril and Regan only proclaim to love their

Women s work is still seen as that of love labour , that of working in the home raising a family and taking care of the housework without pay. Men on the other hand are seen as the breadwinners, their work is paid labour. Their job is to go out into paid employment and provide for their family. There are two knock on effects of women staying a home minding the family. Firstly they are not financially independent. They do not earn any money and are dependent on income received from their partners. Because nobody gets paid for rearing a family it s status as an occupation is at the bottom of the ladder and because women are dependant financially for money on their husband it means they in the past have had less input into the decisions affecting the family resulting in no input into the decisions affecting society. A woman s place was in the home. A second effect of women s position in the family is that they are often isolated from each other and from society in general. Unlike a worker they have little opportunity of meeting, sharing experiences, they on their own have little power to change the conditions they find themselves in. The family is a trap for women today as much as for women at the beginning of the industrial revolution. The four theories that are behind the cause of schizophrenia as referenced in the PowerPoint are Dopamine, Glutamate, Brain Abnormalities, and Nature vs. Nurture / More than one cause. 1. Dopamine Definition Dopamine is a neurotransmitter. It is one of the chemicals that is responsible for transmitting signals between the neurons of the brain. However, very few of those neurons actually produce dopamine. (psychologytoday.com) Theory The main theory concerning dopamine is that too much it can result in schizophrenia. Antipsychotic medications that are used to treat schizophrenia block dopamine receptors. The purpose of these medications is to bind the dopamine receptors to the brain, and some of their effects have helped people cope with the symptoms. (healthcommunities.com) The regions of the brain that are affected by dopamine are known as the striatum and the thalamus. Schizophrenia results have shown that in these regions in the brain, there are altered levels of D2 binding potential. Patients that have schizophrenia who do not take antipsychotic medications will have a lower thalamic D2 binding potential. So, schizophrenia patients that go untreated have a higher number of D2 receptors in the striatum. (psychcentral.com) 2. As evident by the available literature, each theorist uses modern organizational studies in order to understand, control, predict, and explain some phenomenon based on a particular need. In the 1900s, theories were formulated around production and economic goals. In the 1960 and 70s, theories were heavily influenced by social psychology and quantitative research and in the 1980s, literature then expanded to providing cultural explanations of organizations with influences from psychology, sociology and anthropology, shifting from quantitative to qualitative research as an acceptable method for conducting research. The vast literature on organizational theory demonstrates that while there is no single way to structure an organization, there are some commonly accepted general principles that can be identified. This policy will affect many on Ohio University s campus. However, the ban on smoking will be ineffective for many reasons. First, according to a Tobacco Free Initiative flyer, in order to ban tobacco, smokers should be given the opportunity to be warned, given advice, or asked if they are interested in tobacco or not. When the Smoke and Tobacco Free Initiative policy is enacted, the smokers may pull themselves from that habit without any force. However, this may be rare and therefore may not be a success. The policy states, Students and staff will be encouraged to remind anyone seen smoking on campus about the policy (Hill, 2015), however application of this is simple not practical. • 14. Social Class And Marriage In Sweat By Zola Neale Hurston Social Class and Marriage Social class and marriage are two aspects which the society has always held dear. The society categorizes social class with what one earns. The people who earn more in the society are considered powerful, and to some extent, they are respected more than others. On the other side, the people who are not financially mighty are seen as the weak in the society. A marriage is considered a stage in life which people should pass. Though the divorce rate is increasing day by day, the larger percentage of the society believes that marriage is important and people should get married for recreation and companionship. Some communities believe so much in marriages, and they consider them holy (Hurston, 3). However, marriages have their fair share of challenges. The problems of marriages did not start a few years ago, but they have been there for many years. What happens is that people are different and handle challenges differently. Today, a marriage partner would rather walk out of marriage rather than persevere and deal with the marriage issue. A few decades ago, people rarely walked out of marriages, and some of them even lived in abusive marriages. Sweat is a shorts story by Zola Neale Hurston which focuses more on social class and how challenging marriages can be. Hurston uses the characters in the short story; Sweat, to bring out the aspect of the social class. Delia is depicted as a woman who loves what she does. However, it is still apparent that ... The Nature Of Rome s Relationship On the Nature of Rome s Relationship to the Individual and the Collective Livy s history tells in detail the events that sum up to the life of Rome, from its inception to Augustus rule. Not a modern historian, his writing is a milieu of transcribed cultural memory, creative narrative and more legitimate historical writing. While there are undoubtedly moments of falsehood, it is equally true that Livy captured many authentic historical facts in his work. Opposition to such a claim might make the correct observation that, over time, power appears to dilute, slowly acquired by more and more of the populus romanus. kings make way for consuls, patricians lose political monopolies to the plebs, etc. While the number of people with real political power does in fact increase, collective action is almost never the impetus for any action in Livy s writings. To start at the beginning, it is a series of kings transform an empty land to a sizeable city state. After much warring, Numa established treaties and tempered the overly aggressive Roman with religion (The Rise of Rome 24). • 16. The Positive And Negative Impacts Of Immigration Where did immigration start? Why did immigration start? Was immigration encouraged by our government? What were the positive and negative impacts of immigration? Immigration has been occurring for many years. Throughout history immigrating to different lands was very common. During the early 1800s through the early 1900s, nearly 30 million foreigners were arriving in the United States. In the late 1800s in a single year close to 400,000 immigrants arrived. During this time the immigrants were helping shape America by supplying labor and industrialization. When people were first migrating to North America as this country was getting started, the American people had a very narrow mindset, therefore, as people from other countries migrated to the U.S. little by little the country was broadened. The country was broadened along with the American people, their laws and foreign peoples perspective of America. As the perspectives of foreign people changed migration to America was encouraged. First, before America was bound to begin: The Native Americans were here in North America first, then the Europeans settlers came to this land and were taken from the natives. Many injustices have occurred in history but this is how America was shaped to be the country it is now. Therefore, it can be viewed in two different was in a positive and a negative way. For example, it can be positive because through our past events in history we were able to become the country we are today. Although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The massive movement for communities to provide public lands for relaxation, leisure and play has its roots in the Progressive Reforms around the turn of the twentieth century. The congestion of urban centers and the fading concept of child labor creates unintended consequences such as an increase in crime, lack of natural landscape and no place for children to play. • 20. Mount Ruapehu Essay The Māori definition for Mount Ruapehu is exploding pit of noise, a phrase that is suitable for the 2787 metre tall volcano. Mount Ruapehu is the highest active volcano in New Zealand and the most dangerous of the Volcanic Plateau region, see figure 1. Often defined by its large Crater Lake, the classic cone volcano is shaped by a layered landscape with a ring plain at the summits peak. All of these surface features seen today, are the result and combination of internal and external geological processes. Mount Ruapehu is located at the Southern end of the extremely active Taupo Volcanic Zone, close to the centre of the North Island in New Zealand, see figure 2. As a result of continental drift, volcanic landforms are developed by collisions and movement of tectonic plates in the Earth s crust. Earth is made up of five major layers including the inner core, outer core, mantle, upper mantle and crust. The upper mantle of the Earth is a approximately 1100C, a temperature so hot that the rock melts to form a molten layer, causing the pieces of the Earth s crust to move and collide. Convention currents is a progression where hot magma from the upper mantle rises towards the surface where it then cools and forms a surface skin, see figure 3. The skin is pushed aside as more magma develops, then forced back under the upper mantle. The skin melts and the process is repeated. The French and Indian War and the American Revolution At a surface level, historical accounts of The French and Indian War and the American Revolution are presented as wars between two sides: The British versus the French and the British verus the Americans, respectively. In each war the aforementioned opposing sides held the most crucial roles in each battle that these wars lead to. However, in this essay I will argue the crucial role of allies of each victorious side and how they were incredbily useful to the defeats of the British in the wildnerness in 1755 during Braddock s defeat and in Yorktown, Virginia in 181 durng Cornwallis s defeat. Discussing the former, I will argue the importance of the Native American s as allies to France and with the latter, the significance of the French as allies to the Americans. The aim of this essay is not to argue that without their allies, the French and the Americans would not have won the battles but that because they did have these allies, their victories occured faster, easier and with less conflict that if they had fought without allies. Braddock s defeat in 1755 occured during the French and Indian War which involved British and French armies battling for land possession in North America. The commander of British forces in America, General Edward Braddock, was to lead 2,200 British troops to capture Fort Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Social workers have a professional and moral duty to ensure that services are provided to those who most need it. People s wellbeing is a key ideal within social work and is strongly represented within the Care Act 2014, the earlier Children s Act 2004 is also clear on the protection of children s rights in the UK. In the essay there will be a discussion on how in some areas the statute is not strong enough to allow Social Workers to work properly, but also how there needs to be changes regarding social work focus on refugees. Recently, United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) has campaigns to help reform the UK s current law on family. The law only recognises parents or spouses and civil partners as family. Some schools offer a marine biology degree and most of these are located in coastal states, but the undergraduate degree need not be in marine biology. Physical oceanographers, who study the physical as opposed to the biological aspects of the sea, may work toward an oceanography degree, with coursework weighted heavily in physics, mathematics, and computer modeling. • 33. The American Psychology Association ( Apa ) Labels distinguish individuals in everyday life; if 2000 people from across the world were randomly selected and put into categories of hair colour, none of them would share exactly the same shade of colour. Despite this continuity humans still continue to assign each other to discrete hair colour categories such as blonde or brown which have no basis in biology but still go on to determine how that person is thought of in society. The American Psychology Association (APA) provides guidelines for researchers to follow in both research and writing scientifically in order to avoid any form of labelling bias when referring to participants or groups of participants. These guidelines are in place to ensure that the participants within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boroditsky, Wade, Wu, Frank, Witthoft and Winawer (2007) established the importance of precision in labels by studying the difference in response between English and Russian speakers in distinguishing similar but subtle different shades of blue. In Russian there are many words for blue as they divide the spectrum into lighter blues goulboy and darker blues siniy but in English there is only one single word for the colour blue. Due to this difference the Russian speakers were quicker to distinguish between the colours as they had readily available labels unlike the English speakers. Labels have the ability to control more then just conscious perception but they can also change how we perceive more complex things like people subconsciously. Jennifer Eberhardt (2003) showed white college students pictures of a man who was racially ambiguous. For half of the students the face was described as white and for the other half he was described as black . In one task the experimenter asked the students to spend four minutes drawing the face while it was on the screen in front of them. Although all the students were looking at the same face, those who were told that the face belonged to a specific race tended to draw the face with typical stereotype features associated with that race. This demonstrated that the students were unable to identify the subject as a individual after the label of his race was assigned to him. Rosenhan (1983) provided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition, the 15th Army was not in full retreat and instead escaped the Allied pursuit and arrived to engage along the route. The terrain and weather played an enormous role in the failure of the operation. The plan for the armored advance required the XXXth Armored Division to move the sixty five miles up a narrow two lane road bordered by farmland that had been swampland in the past. The importance of this is that any incident that required the armor to leave the road was especially time consuming due to the marshy conditions. This armored movement also depended on each of the bridges to be intact but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the beginning, things went wrong for the division. During the transit to the landing zone two of the gliders were lost, these gliders contained anti armor guns. Missing the landing zone, the British soldiers landed too far from the bridges. The additional distance needed to reach the bridge allowed the German defenders time to prepare. Despite this, the 1st Airborne Division was able to take the northern end of the Arnhem Bridge. A combination of German preparation time and the lack of sufficient British numbers prevented the capture of the Southern end of the bridge. This left the British troops in between two forces. The second wave of airborne set to arrive the next day and reinforce the assault were delayed. The predictions from the Allied Meteorologists proved optimistic and on Monday 18th September, the weather effectively disrupted much of the air operations and the take off of the second wave in England was delayed. The reinforcements did not arrive until much later in the day and met a much larger German defense supported by Panzers. The 1st Airborne Division held the north end of the bridge for six days before withdrawing. Weather delayed the third wave of support until 23 September. The troops had only gone into the operation with 48 hours worth of ammunition and food. Driven from Arnhem, the British troops received the order to withdraw across the Rhine River. There was a lot of conflict that was taking place between Ruth and Fredrick during this time. The melody showed pitches that made up the different parts of the song. For example, both Ruth and Fredrick take turns on who takes the melody of the song depending on who is dominant at certain points of the song. Fredrick is more dominant and the beginning and then Ruth takes the attention later on. This part of the story was very surprising and something that I was no expecting. The melody that was used in number two was used by expressing different pitches. This in relation into which one of the character was singing at the time. During the duration of this song, the performers were the Pirate King, Frederick, and Ruth. In coalition to this, the harmony are the sounds that were sounding simultaneously and throughout this song, the performers would sing together. There were also times were Ruth was in more of the background which was used to create a different melody. They also used rhythms that are known throughout the song. For example, at one point it sounds like a circus theme song. This is used to show how this scene is intended to be one where there is humor expressed. They are laughing and enjoying the time because Frederick is finding out that because he was born on Leap Year he is actually only five years old. The meter that was used in song number two was one that fluctuated depending on what the song was saying. There was no set meter that it was focused on being. The answer is quite simple, ours. Social media is the number one cause of lack of privacy. It is something about social media that make us loose our sense of reason and place all sorts of personal information on the Internet for all the world to see. But, social media is not the only reason for the privacy breech. There are many reasons, and computer hackers are just one. Prevalent silence is a sign that we aren t being productive, but the discussion must also be meaningful rather than just filling the silence. For me personally, I need to make sure to pick the times when my input is most insightful to speak up, as well as trying to reach out to the people who are quiet. My level of heat started out too high and went down to a manageable amount where I don t feel nearly as afraid to contribute. Many drivers are so caught up in their phones that they risk their lives and the lives of others just so that they could answer a simple text message. Now that this problem is becoming so big, it should have severe consequences. People who text and drive should get license suspension for six months and get $500 for the first violation and $1000 for the second violation. People who text and drive can hit or even kill pedestrians because of being distracted by their phones and not paying attention to the road. In the course of five years, the national number of pedestrians who were killed or hit by distracted drivers increased from 344 to 500 people. This is their tragic flaw; and one that ultimately leads to their demise. Within Shakespeare s King Lear and F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, the following human flaws are explored: obsession, greed, yearning, and loss. These flaws are a commonality between these two characters. Although these flaws are standard for many characters among many genres, they are unique only to Lear and Gatsby because they lead to their death. Lear and Gatsby share a dream of power and love, but this dream slowly becomes an unhealthy obsession. King Lear is so blinded by his love for his daughters that he does not see that they are only using him for his wealth.
