Salem s Lot Character Analysis
Good vs Evil, a very common topic, is highly portrayed in the thriller novel titled Salem s Lot
written by Stephen King. The idea is interpreted by a multitude of characters Ben Mears, Jimmy
Cody, Father Callahan, Matthew Burke, Mark Petrie, Susan Norton, a lot of townspeople, R. T.
Straker, and a man named and goes by Bowler. As we all know and tell by the photo on the left, the
novel is all about vampires. R. T. Staker and Bowler are both equally evil, however, Bowler is the
leading vampire and Straker is his loyal human servant, Most of the townspeople were good but

lot. Bowler is the leading vampire, who turns half of the town such as Eva Miller, Weasel Craig,

the vampires hid during the day. Ben killed Bowler just in time before he awoke at night, and

Important Characteristics Of An Individual s Behavior
Business is a broad field, and there are many important characteristics that play a significant role
in ensuring that business decisions are done correctly. Laws and regulations are made and
enforced to make sure that corrects decisions are done. One of the main purposes of laws is to
make sure that ethical principles are not broken. However, each situation is different and some
times laws and ethicsintertwined, and laws could cause people to act in unethical ways. Ethics
could be defined as moral principles that guide an individual s behavior. Ethics could be
influenced by the person who is seeing it and by the culture in where the situation is taking
place (McKay, Nitsch Peters). A major guideline that could be used to evaluate if a situation is
ethical is to determine if a situation is right or wrong. Is very important that businesses or global
banks follow ethical guidelines. This would allow society to trust in their decision making. The
word society covers a big group of people, which include investors, clients, and other financial
industries (McKay, Nitsch Peters). Having ethical guidelines would help a business or a bank to
growth in a healthy way for a long term.
Moreover, a recent ethical scandal that took place in London but had a huge influence in the
United States was the JP Morgan London Whale Scandal. This incident took place in 2002, and it
brought huge losses to the biggest bank in the United States. This is what happened in 2002, JP

Current Research On Bipolar Disorder II
Current Research on Bipolar Disorder II Shannon J. Oliveira American School of Professional
Psychology Psychopathology Fall 2014 Current Research on Bipolar Disorder II The following
is a review of recent peer reviewed research articles in the field of psychology contributing to
new information on the diagnosis, treatment, and outcome measures for Bipolar Disorder II
(BDII). First, you will find a description of the diagnostic presentation of BDII, followed by the
corresponding results of the research, and ending with an explanation of how the following
research will influence our work as mental health practitioners. Bipolar II Description The
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition (DSM 5) describes BDII as
an instability of mood categorized by the lifetime prevalence of at least one major depressive
episode and at least one hypomanic episode (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Generally
speaking, a major depressive episode consists of a depressed or consistent low mood for a
period of at least two weeks. A hypomanic episode on the other hand, consists of a period of
elevated, expansive, or irritable mood lasting at least 4 consecutive days. Both episodes generally
cause serious implications on the individual s daily living in regards to social, academic, and work
environments. For a diagnosis to be made by the DSM 5, a list of particular criteria must be met,

different departments and trades, the demand for information security and the key is distinguishing.
The scope of information security itself is very wide, such as the problem of preventing the
disclosure for commercial enterprises, the problem of preventing teenagers from browsing on bad

Comparison Of War And Doolittle s To Helen
Helen of Troy is well known for many reasons. Today, writers allude to the beautifully Mysterious
woman who notoriously broke hearts. Poets Edgar Allan Poe and Hilda Doolittle, exemplify this
use of creating meaning by alluding to the famed damsel. Poe s poem, To Helen , publishes in
1831, and Doolittle s poem, Helen, written in 1928, give readers different tastes of Helen s story
from their individual writing styles. The speaker and the imagery in each poem differentiates the
writers and their styles as the uniquely attempt reason and understand the one woman who caused
one of the most well known wars in the history of man. Writers have power because they can
create an idea, and they create whoever or whatever they want to convey that idea. The main
difference between the speakers in the two poems, is gender. An obvious reason that supports the

Although both Edgar Allan Poe and Hilda Doolittle poems revolve around Helen of Troy, the
way in which they describe Helen is different. Poe says, On desperate seas long wont to roam,
thy hyacinth hair, thy classic face, Thy Naiad airs have brought me home to the glory that was
Greece, and the grandeur that as Rome, (Poe, lines 6 10); the imagery that Poe creates, paints the
scene of the ocean and the pretty woman. He related Helen to a water nymph, not only because of
her beauty, but because of her actions as well to show the reader her mannerisms. On the other
hand, Doolittle writes, All Greece reviles the wan face when she smiles, hating it deeper still when
it grows wan and white, remembering past enchantments and past ills, (Doolittle lines 6 10). H.D.
creates an image of a country showing great anger towards something that shows such beauty. She
gives Helen s beauty a negative connotation due to the pain and war Helen caused. Imagery and

The Hour of Reckoning
In the chapter The Hour of Reckoning from Let the Trumpet Sound: The Life of Martin Luther
King, Jr., author Stephen B. Oates goes into great detail on King s view of the Vietnam War that
occurred in 1967, which led into his probable presidency. On the evening of April 04, 1967,
Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered a speech to a crowd of 3,000 at Riverside Church in New York
that spoke against the war in Vietnam. He called the war immoral and felt as if he couldn t continue
to remain silent because as a believer of non violence, he couldn t undertake equal rights and peace
amongst humanity, when the government thought violence was the answer in Vietnam. Due to
King being anti war, his relationship with the president at the time, Lyndon Johnson had ended.
After his speech it caused uproar in the United States and Martin Luther King, Jr. then became

Amazon s Mechanical Turk ( M Turk ) Essay
Introduction The present study was an initial test for an online version of the road salting task.
There was a potential concern that the advantage of numeric uncertainty was only restricted to
population that had always been used as participants: young adults with some college education.
Would other populations benefit from numeric uncertainty information as well? Additionally, all
previous data had been collected in a laboratory setting with an experimenter monitoring task
progress and preventing any outside distractions. Indeed, relative to traditional laboratory
environment, many aspects of the online testing environment are not under the experimenter s
control. Participants could be distracted by simultaneously completing other online tasks or
attending to other aspects of their environment. It is unsurprising that unsupervised subjects tend
to be less attentive than subjects in a lab with an experimenter (Oppenheimer, Meyvis,
Davidenko, 2009). Would this affect road salting responses? The online testing environment used
for this project was Amazon s Mechanical Turk (M Turk). The M Turk is a platform for
thousands of response tasks covering a wide range of topics. Respondents complete tasks for small
monetary rewards. Evidence suggests that M Turk samples are reliable and reasonably
representative of the general public and data quality does not seem affected by payment amount

CRCC Code Of Ethics Case Study
For the CRCC Code of Ethics it can better guide individuals in this certain situation. After
reviewing the CRCC Code of Ethics there was several areas of CRCC Code of Ethics which
could be applicable in this situation. The first section that could be applicable would be Part A
section 3 of which will allow the counselors to form a limitation, rights and guidance for the
client. For example in this situation the child is not adjusting to school and by forming a
guideline for the student it can show how the student could better cope. The next section that
could be applicable would be Part A section 4 of which avoiding harm to the client. For example
this student did acquired a spinal cord inquiry and having a hard time adjusting to school however
by being a recent graduate student the values and beliefs might be different versus someone whom

Ocean Acidification
The issue on ocean acidification is popularizing but what exactly is ocean acidification? It
occurs when carbon dioxide is absorbed in the ocean s waters from then on a series of chemical
reactions take place which lowers the ocean s water pH, carbonate ion concentration, as well as
the saturation states of the calcium carbonate minerals ( What is Ocean Acidification? ). Since
we are addressing the issue on ocean acidification we will touch on the marine creatures that are

A process called iron fertilization which stimulates photosynthesis in phytoplankton. Phytoplankton
has the ability to convert dissolved carbon dioxide in the ocean into carbohydrate and oxygen gas.
This solution, seeming to be the best answer to the problem is not without fault. A statement by
the IAP cautioned against this climate engineering. Mitigation approaches such as adding
chemicals to counter the effects of acidification are likely to be expensive, only partly effective
and only at a very local scale, and may pose additional unanticipated risks to the marine
environment. There has been very little research on the feasibility and impacts of these approaches.
Substantial research is needed before these techniques could be applied (Halting ocean
acidification in time). Unfortunately, a process such as this one proves to be quite expensive,
difficult, and is not proven to cause other problems. Lowering carbon dioxide emissions is currently
our best defense to ocean acidification however the mitigation processes such as iron fertilization

The Universe In Elie Wiesel s Night
Master of the Universe There is one singular question that persists in humanity from the beginning
of time, a question regarding the existence of perhaps the most influential figure in the universe:
God. In the memoir, Night, Elie Wiesel details his experiences in the holocaust, his journey from his
small Jewish community in Transylvania to the subsequent concentration camps which housed him
in his later youth. In this haunting account, Wiesel explores his own journey from a devout young
man to one that will question his own faith, the existenceof God, and how one could still believe in
a right and just God after witnessing such atrocities. Prior to his imprisonment Wiesel existed as
an incredibly pious member of the Jewish faith. As his fate and the Jewish people s becomes
clear, Wiesel begins to question God s plans and whether a divine intervention will ever come. As a

Instead of the reverence that Elie once spoke with in regards to his Master of the Universe , he

whether this figure exists, but Where is God s mercy? This overall message is reflective in one
of the last passages in the text that mention faith. Where is God s mercy? Where s God? How
can I believe, how can anyone believe in this God of Mercy? (Wiesel 76) With the many questions
that plague Wiesel, only more questions come about. The final one being, How can one still believe?
To say nothing of, there is still one more critical factor remaining in regards to Wiesel s faith.
The capitalization of one simple word, God. Throughout the entire memoir of Night, not once
does Wiesel fail to capitalize the word, God. Surely, it was out of respect. This would give hope to
the reader that even after all is said and done, Wiesel was not completely stripped of his

everything in life for granted. Greedy people will stop at nothing to receive what they want.
They do not care who they harm in the process. If people are selfish, they are heading in the

Entitlement Programs And The Entitlement Program
America was founded on several principles to include, that all men are created equal. However,
throughout history, it has been made clear through the various social classes that this is not the case
within the realm of monetary value. It is for reasons such as this that the entitlement programs were
born. Entitlementprograms were created to provide security and assistance to those in need. They
would allocate basic necessities for eligible persons and families to live comfortably until they are
no longer necessary. Though a great deal of people across the country have benefited from these
programs, it has come at a high cost to the government and the taxpayers. Because of the apparent
success and high expenses, there are a number of arguments both for and against entitlement
programs. This includes the extent of their benefits and costs, the amount spent to fuel them, and
even their entire existence. On one hand, they have proven value by significantly reducing the
national poverty level and other similar successes; on the other, they cost the country millions and
have been adding to the ever increasing national deficit. Another common school of thought, is that
an increasing number of individuals or families have become completely dependent on them as they
create an avenue to stability at no cost to them. The overwhelming and unnecessary volume of
goods and services including medicaid, unemployment compensation, and food stamps that
entitlement programs supply to many

Ethical Dilemmas in Multicultural counselling Essay
Ethical Dilemmas in a Multicultural Setting
Silvia Galea
An ethical dilemma exists whenever there are good but contradictory ethical reasons to take
conflicting and incompatible courses of action.
(Kitchner, 1984 p.29)
There is no legitimate way to avoid these ethical struggles.
They are part of our work . (Pope Vasquez, 2007 p.125).
Introduction
Cultural competence is fast becoming the new competence in counselling (Barnett 2009, Barnett
2000). As society changes and minorities become more prominent in our society, professionals are
ethically bound to learn new skills that help them deliver a culturally sensitive service to clients
requesting assistance in the helping profession. (Ridley, Liddle, Hill, Li, ... Show more content on

(Romero, 1985) highlights the need that counsellors view the identity and development of
culturally diverse people in terms of multiple, interactive factors, rather than a strictly cultural
framework.
Working with Dodo was a challenging experience which brought about many ethical dilemmas.
Such dilemmas often centred around developing her personal autonomy in the context of her ethnic
origin within the culture of dependency and interdependency that collective cultures proclaim. I
often found myself reflecting on how any abrupt changes could damage her rather than benefit her
as nonconformity to gender roles and stereotypes can have a devastating effect on females who
may be stigmatized, ostracized or even socially erased in particular cultural contexts (Romero,
1985). I often pondered upon what in one culture could be beneficent would result in an act of
malificance in a different cultural context. I strived to be faithful to my client, to move at her pace
and to go to the places where she wanted to go in the process of counseling. I urged and empowered
her to teach me her cultural norms, her traditions and the intricate fabric of her cultural network that
I may understand her internal conflicts when she started to grow in the understanding and
appreciation of other cultures which valued women empowerment. African culture has a

Felony Voir Dire Case
Felony Voir Dire
Johnson and Haney describe a study related to the voir dire process.
The sixth amendment to the U.S constitution guarantees a defendant in a criminal prosecution the
right to a speedy, public, and impartial trial by jury. Once it has determined that the trail will be by
jury, the next step in the criminal proceeding is the selection of the jurors. During this process
possible jurors receive a summons in the mall ordering them to appear in court at a specified time
and date the people who are summoned comprise the venire (the prospective jurors for cases). Voir
dire Latin term meaning to speak the truth, this is an examination conducted by the courts or by the
attorneys of a potential juror or witness to determine if they would be proficient or qualified for
services. Jurors questionnaires reveals information disqualifying them from jury service is only the
first step in the jury selection process. Typical questions relate to whether prospective jurors know
the defendant, the attorneys, or any of the witnesses, whether they have read or heard about the
case in the media, and whether they have racial, nationality, or gender biases. Effective voir dire is
getting the prospective jurors to tell the court or attorneys what they need to know.
During the voir dire process, the way jurors are removed is part logic and part legal strategy. The
judge determines that a potential juror is not likely to be fair to both sides in the case, than the
juror will be

Comparing Catcher In The Rye And The Bell Jar
The transition between childhood into adolescence is an essential period in one s life that shapes
how individual feels about themselves. This transition can be difficult for some individuals
because they are unable to find their self identity. In J.D Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye
Holden Caulfield neglects growing up and finds it difficult to search for his life ambitions.
Similarly, in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar, Esther Greenwood struggles internally to fulfil her
ambitions and conform to societal expectations. Eventually, this affects the psychological state of
the protagonists and leads them to fall into depression. In J.D Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye

This can be recognized as Holden confesses, I was only thirteen, and they were going to have me
psychoanalyzed and all, because I broke all the windows in the garage (Salinger, 44). Punching
windows is a sign of severe unhappiness and anger that consumes Holden as he resorts to
violence. Allie s death in childhood establishes life s rules as arbitrary and cruel, and provides an
explanation for Holden s fixation on childhood. According to psychologist John Bowlby,
children can respond to death by engaging in unprovoked violence towards peers or adults or
inexplicable destruction of property (Bowlby). As another method of coping with this death,
Holden appears to talk to himself. He confesses, I felt so depressed, you can t imagine. What I
did, I started talking, sort of out loud, to Allie. I do that sometimes when I get very depressed
(Salinger, 53). Again, Holden copes with Allie s death by talking to Allie himself. Conceivably,
Holden is unable to communicate with living individuals. Thus, Holden talks to someone who is
dead and cannot genuinely help him overcome his failures. This grief keeps Holden from growing
as an individual in the important years of his

Argumentative Essay Childcare
14.2 million children under age 13 met federal requirements for child care subsidies in 2011 2012.
Of that number, 8.6 million were eligible under state policies. Yet only 1.5 million children actually
received the subsidies. That means only 10.6 percent of the number of children meeting federal
guidelines actually get the subsidy (Davidson 2017). The question that will be answered throughout
this paper is, how accessible is childcarein the United States? Child care is the care of children by
a day care center, babysitter, or other provider while parent/ parents/ or legal guardian is working.
The median household income for the United States is $53,8895 (Census Bureau) and the average
cost of childcare is between $10,000 and $16,000 (Hamm 2015). This means that childcare can cost
families making the median income 30% of their annual income. Given that this is the median
household income, half of households have an income that is below this costing them more than
30% of their income. The United States has excellent child care that is affordable for some,
however, most low income families are unable to afford it.
Child care is incredibly important for the youth because has been proven to improve children s
development. Early childhood education has a countless number of benefits, including more
equitable long term outcomes for children of diverse economic backgrounds. Additionally, investing
in these benefits early on helps create future workforce, secure long term

Summary Of Frrantz Fanon s Black Skin White Masks
In Frantz Fanon book, Black Skin White Masks, Fanon contend that the French colonizer generated
a psychological, racial complex, so profound that it compelled those of African ancestry to forsake
their heritage, thus dehumanizing them. Therefore, degrading those of African descent to recede
into two dimensions. In Frantz Fanon writing, he deconstructs his racial complex into three unique
categories. The foremost being, the social concept of French society and the impact on African
descent. The following being, the interracial affiliation between the races primarily among women
of color and Caucasian males. Third being, African males and their relationship with Caucasian
females. In Frantz Fanon s breakdown of the French racial complex, he utilizes the concepts of
psychology to explain how French colonization constructs an unequal society between
ethnocentricities. Thus, the objective of this paper is to analyze each of Fanon ideas individually to
demonstrate how colonization created a psychological mentality that negatively affects those of
African descent.
The first section of Black Skin White Masks, Franon describes the phenomenon whereby French
colonizers require individuals of African descent to live in two dimensions. Thus, demonstrating the
social veil of racism that shadows African American. Frantz Fanon pronounces in his writing, The
Black man possess two dimensions: one with fellow Blacks, the other with the Whites . (page 1)

The Imitation Game Analysis
The Imitation Game by Morten Tyldum, is a handsomely engrossing and poignantly melancholic
thriller about code cracking World War Two thrills. Alan Turing successfully attempts to break the
enigma code which leads to 14 million lives being saved and the war being shortened by 2 years.
Conflict is all over this film emotionally and physically, externally and internally, especially in the
protagonist s case, Alan Turing, who isn t exactly a straight forward character. As humans we
generally feel sympathy towards any human, creature, or thing that is unfairly put against or
struggles against the odds just like Alan Turing in the film The Imitation Game . A few
examples of odds being stacked against Turing are; that he was homosexual in a time where this
was seen to be a crime and he is blackmailed and bullied for this all through his life, he was
antisocial and very awkward to socialize with, and more simply because all odds were stacked
against him to crack the Enigma code
Alan Turing in The Imitation Game by Morten Tyldum had odds stacked against him as he lived
in a time period where being homosexual could get you arrested and then chemically castrated as
it was also seen as a curable disease. I agree completely with the initial statement as it is a natural
instinct for humans to feel sympathy towards a Character like Alan Turing when all he can do is be
himself. When Turing attended college in 1927 there are many camera shots that suggest that

The Size and Economic Impact of the Hospitality and Tourism industry:
Tourism is a massive industry in New Zealand. It has a major consequence on the rest of the
economy from the employment it provides to a major percentage of the workforce (9.6% of the
total workforce in New Zealand), thereby contributing to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The tourism growth in New Zealand is the outcome of the numerous of options that the hospitality
industry offer visitors from all over the world. Some of the choice of accommodation that NZ offers
are Apartments, Beach Houses, Holiday homes, Motels, Backpackers, Holiday Parks, Homestays,
Nature retreats, Resorts , Health spas, Vineyard accommodation, Bed and breakfast, Farmstays,

3. Turnover:
The holiday park sector employed 2,200 people in 2009 and a large number (37%) of holiday
parks were run by self employed operators with no employees and 35% were small with 1 5
employees (Ministry of Economic Development, 2010b). Consequently the turnover in this
sector is insignificant. When explored for accurate data on labour turnover in the self employed
holiday theme park sector with some employees, information was very limited. Some media
articles on turnover in a particular HTP i.e. Waihi Beach TOP 10 Holiday Resort states that their
turnover has grown strongly, averaging 17% year on year growth, and some years as high as
25%(Voxy News Engine, 2011). Since, the article does not explain the reason for the turnover but
an assumption can be made from the types of visitors at HTP, which is the employees employed at
these places, ought to be travellers on holiday work visa.
4. Wages:
Tourism is a service industry and high quality tourism experiences rely on delivery of world class
service standards. Consecutively to provide a world class service, the industry requires skilled
labour force. A tight labour market demands attractive and competitive pay rates and working
conditions. The following table shows an average wage of an employee in hospitality sector.
Although the industry is growing at standard rate the wages are relatively low for tourism sector
when compared to other sectors.

Challenger Research Paper
Making the Call
In my paper I will try and explain the reason of why I would make the call to launch the
Challenger in 1986. As we all know we had a horrific accident when the Challenger was launched
on January 28, 1986. There were seven crew members who lost their lives when the Challenger
blew up within only 73 seconds of flight. This was a major setback in the United States space
explorations and prompted NASA to temporarily suspend all future shuttle missions.
First, we take a look at all the years of research and designs that are completed over the years;
thus, we have to trust that we are receiving the most up to date research and findings. On January
28, 1979, just 7 years to the date began the start of the structural assembly of the ... Show more

The data showed that the rubber seals on the shuttle s booster rockets wouldn t seal properly in
cold temperatures and this would be the coldest launch ever. (Berkes, 2016) Having been given
this information I would make the decision to launch. Sending shuttles up with some risk was the
norm at NASA, and it was understood that some risk was unavoidable. The possibility of some
primary O ring erosion was found acceptable because of the redundancy of the secondary O ring.
Over a period of time, the amount of erosion that was acceptable grew increment by increment.
The Okaying of the Challenger launch was the result of day to day decisions made over a period of
years a kind of incremental acceptance of deviance that Vaughan compares to Hannah Arendt s
banality of evil. As she argues, incrementalism can contribute to extraordinary events (Tankard,
1996).
The pressure being put on me to send the Challenger was enormous, the President would be
giving his State of the Union address and plans are he will be discussing the advancements the
United States a made in the NASA program. I feel as though I have no choice, I must rely on all
the testing that has been done. There is always risk when sending up any space shuttle, but the

Analysis of Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra Essay
Analysis of Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra
The most influential writer in all of English literature, William Shakespeare was born in 1564 to a
successful middle class glove maker in Stratford upon Avon, England. Shakespeare attended
grammar school, but his formal education proceeded no further. In 1582 he married an older
woman, Anne Hathaway, and had three children with her. Around 1590 he left his family behind
and traveled to London to work as an actor and playwright. Public and critical acclaim quickly
followed, and Shakespeare eventually became the most popular playwright in England and part
owner of the Globe Theater. His career bridged the reigns of Elizabeth I (ruled 1558 1603) and
James I (ruled 1603 1625), and he was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare s primary source for Antony and Cleopatra was the Life of Marcus Antonius
contained in Plutarch s Lives of the Noble Grecians and Romans, which was translated into
English by Sir Thomas North in 1579. North s language was so rich that Shakespeare incorporated
large, relatively unchanged excerpts of it into his text. The plot of the play also remains close to
North s history, although characters like Enobarbus and Cleopatra s attendants are largely
Shakespearean creations.
The action of the story takes place roughly two years after the events of Shakespeare s earlier play
about the Roman Empire, Julius Caesar. At the beginning of that tragedy, Caesar has triumphed
over his rival Pompey the Great, the father of young Pompey in Antony and Cleopatra, and aspires
to kingship. Caesar is then assassinated by Cassius and Brutus, who hope to preserve the Roman
Republic. Instead, Cassius and Brutus are defeated by Mark Antony and Octavius Caesar, Julius s
nephew, who then join Marcus Aemilius Lepidus to create a three man government, or triumvirate,
over the empire.
Historically, the action of Antony and Cleopatra takes place over a ten year span, whereas in the
play the story is compressed to fit the needs of the stage. Antony is clearly much older than he was
in Julius Caesar, and his political instincts

Persepolis The Veil Symbolism
Symbolism in Persepolis Symbols are seen in many places, on bathroom doors and in books and
novels. Wherever they are or whatever they are, all of these symbols mean something more
beyond the initial. The veil is one of the symbols in the book Persepolis that symbolizes the
oppression of women which means the constriction of personal Freedom that accompanies the
Revolution. The veil is a religious thing in today s days, Muslim ladies have to wear it every time
they go outside the house. Another symbolin the book Persepolis is the gold key and it symbolizes
the power of the governmentor the government s control. Another symbol in the book Persepolis is
the cigaretteand it s what Marji use to feel as a grown up. There are a lot of symbols in the book
Persepolis, of these symbols are the veil in the way that it symbolizes a fashion statement,
oppression, and the gold key in the way that it symbolizes control of the government and the
cigarette in the way that symbolizes the grown up. The Veil is a symbol in the book Persepolis
that symbolizes a fashion statement, like wearing jeggings or a fedora. However, neither
jeggings nor a fedora are closely tied with religious fundamentalism. It is called in most
countries a hijab, and its used for women to cover their hair and its meant to be a protection for
them. The Veil represents a symbol of oppression of women which means the constriction of
personal freedom that accompanies the revolution. It says in the book that We didn t really like
to wear the veil, especially since we didn t understand why we had to. It also says, Then came
1980: the year it became obligatory to wear the veil at school. And it also says, We found
ourselves veiled and separated from our friends. What Is happening in this story is that the veil
is being forced to women to wear. In the first quote, they don t know why they were wearing the
veil, and they wanted to understand why. That means that they are forced to wear the veil
everywhere. In the second quote, they were forced to even wear the veil at school and mostly
everywhere they go. The veil was forced because they said it will be more as a protection for the

They explain that during the last half of the nineteenth century, an outward oriented period of
growth started in Latin America, based on the export of raw materials to emerging industrial
nations. Unlike the ruling classes in other parts of the world, the so called oligarchic order in Latin
America concentrated the resulting large surplus in the hands of small traditional elites who
imitated the consumption patterns of European upper classes, rather than seeking to enhance their
countries education, technology and production infrastructure (Arocena and Senker 2003). In the
late 1950s and early 1960s, industrialization failed to reach a point at which it was self sustaining.
While there were plants and factories in Latin America that could produce consumer goods, only a
comparatively small wealthy segment of the population could afford to purchase these consumer
goods as opposed to the large segment of the United States and West Europe populations. This
restricted expansion of the internal market for manufactured consumer durables, and the expansion
of manufacturing employment. Accordingly this did little or nothing to reduce inequality.
Industrialization produced by inward investment and by internal consumption of expensive
products could only be sustained in Latin America in a period when external funding was easy to
obtain. This came to an end with the debt crisis of the 1980s. Latin

The Knight of the Cart: Motives behind the Story
In ChrГ©tien De Troyes story, The Knight of the Cart, a central focus of the plot is on courtly love
and traditions that are upheld in the 12th century. However, ChrГ©tien s intentions, emotions, and
thoughts about these traditions are unclear to the modern reader. ChrГ©tien s tone, use of
passages, descriptions, diction and other features, allow us to speculate some of his thoughts and
feelings. The novel opens up with what seems to be disclaimers by ChrГ©tien. Since my lady of

ChrГ©tien presents very exaggerated and near comical scenes of Lancelot expressing his love.
Initially Lancelot s mind oscillates between reason and love but eventually love takes hold and

become more and more irrational. From attempting suicide multiple times to thinking he can defeat
hundreds of knights at once, Lancelot becomes a changed man. He values the ideals of love over
his religion, his knighthood, his honor, and even his life. In sum, ChrГ©tien portrays Lancelot s
love in a very honorable way at the surface level, but there is textual evidence to speculate that he
had ulterior motives in presenting this story: to portray courtly love as foolish, overbearing, and

Online Gambling Act Research Paper
Republicans in September of 2006 attached the UIGEA to the SAFE Port Act, a very popular bill
designed to protect American ports from terrorism. By doing this, Republicans passed the bill
without most Democrats even being able to read it. It was likely believed that without it being
attached to another bill, it would not have passed, as many similar bills had been turned down. It
was subsequently signed into law by President Bush on October 13. The formulation of the policy
was not to criminalize individual Americans who were gambling. Instead, the act makes it illegal
for banks and financial institutions to process transactions for Internet gambling websites. (Rainey,
150) Therefore, instead of turning more Americans into criminals, the act simply cut off the money
flow going into the foreign online casinos. The act basically defined illegal internet gambling as
gambling that states had already made illegal under their own laws. This meant that all 50 states
likely had different rules and regulations by which this bill must be interpreted. It also meant that 2
states, Utah and Hawaii, did not allow any form of gambling at all. For most states, the ability for
an institution to sell gambling means obtaining a license. In the case of these foreign companies
running online casinos that was all but impossible. Along with trying to block the transactions of
internet gambling, the act also made it a felony to knowingly accept money for the... Show more

Trojan Women Analysis
The Trojan Women was an eye opening escapade for multiple viewers. This play was written by
Ellen McLaughlin, directed by Evan Parry, and produced by the College of Charleston s
Department of Theatre and Dance. The cruel effects of war on the world is evident; however, most
forget about the heartache women behind the scenes experience. McLaughlin wrote a moving script
that portrays the struggles these women are forced to face such as prostitution and slavery. Parry
displayed an emphasis on the art of dreaming and the anguish of detachment. The Trojan Women
was not a play for all types of audiences due to the high level of interpretation required for the
viewer. Personally, this play is not one I would see twice. However, the acting, the set design, and
the direction tied together interestingly to make this production.
Initially, the acting was stellar and amplified to clarify the theme of the play. In the beginning, the
chorus of Trojan women laughed, danced, and displayed an unbreakable strong bond between
women that could not be broken by the inevitable war. The women s spirits diminished through
their actions as the play progressed ultimately showing enslavement to the Greeks. A few roles
complimented with unique performers emerged from the rest. Hecuba played by Abriana QuiГ±ones
was breathtakingly wonderful in capturing the audience when expressing the heartache of losing
Troy. The weeping and restlessness was raw and authentic. Andromacheplayed by Bess Lawson

In a nook, hidden away in a spacious house, on the shore of Cape Cod, lies a bathtub. The white

There was a potential concern that the advantage of numeric uncertainty was only restricted to population that had always been used as participants: young adults with some college education. Would other populations benefit from numeric uncertainty information as well? Additionally, all previous data had been collected in a laboratory setting with an experimenter monitoring task progress and preventing any outside distractions. Indeed, relative to traditional laboratory environment, many aspects of the online testing environment are not under the experimenter s control. Participants could be distracted by simultaneously completing other online tasks or attending to other aspects of their environment. It is unsurprising that unsupervised subjects tend to be less attentive than subjects in a lab with an experimenter (Oppenheimer, Meyvis, Davidenko, 2009). Would this affect road salting responses? The online testing environment used for this project was Amazon s Mechanical Turk (M Turk). The M Turk is a platform for thousands of response tasks covering a wide range of topics. Respondents complete tasks for small monetary rewards. They would allocate basic necessities for eligible persons and families to live comfortably until they are no longer necessary. This includes the extent of their benefits and costs, the amount spent to fuel them, and even their entire existence. On one hand, they have proven value by significantly reducing the national poverty level and other similar successes; on the other, they cost the country millions and have been adding to the ever increasing national deficit. Of that number, 8.6 million were eligible under state policies. Yet only 1.5 million children actually received the subsidies. That means only 10.6 percent of the number of children meeting federal guidelines actually get the subsidy (Davidson 2017). The question that will be answered throughout this paper is, how accessible is childcarein the United States? Child care is the care of children by a day care center, babysitter, or other provider while parent/ parents/ or legal guardian is working. The median household income for the United States is $53,8895 (Census Bureau) and the average cost of childcare is between $10,000 and $16,000 (Hamm 2015). This means that childcare can cost families making the median income 30% of their annual income. Given that this is the median household income, half of households have an income that is below this costing them more than 30% of their income. • 29. Summary Of Frrantz Fanon s Black Skin White Masks In Frantz Fanon book, Black Skin White Masks, Fanon contend that the French colonizer generated a psychological, racial complex, so profound that it compelled those of African ancestry to forsake their heritage, thus dehumanizing them. Therefore, degrading those of African descent to recede into two dimensions. In Frantz Fanon writing, he deconstructs his racial complex into three unique categories. The foremost being, the social concept of French society and the impact on African descent. The following being, the interracial affiliation between the races primarily among women of color and Caucasian males. Third being, African males and their relationship with Caucasian females. In Frantz Fanon s breakdown of the French racial complex, he utilizes the concepts of psychology to explain how French colonization constructs an unequal society between ethnocentricities. Thus, the objective of this paper is to analyze each of Fanon ideas individually to demonstrate how colonization created a psychological mentality that negatively affects those of African descent. The first section of Black Skin White Masks, Franon describes the phenomenon whereby French colonizers require individuals of African descent to live in two dimensions. Thus, demonstrating the social veil of racism that shadows African American. Frantz Fanon pronounces in his writing, The Black man possess two dimensions: one with fellow Blacks, the other with the Whites . (page 1) Franon describes these unique ... Alan Turing successfully attempts to break the enigma code which leads to 14 million lives being saved and the war being shortened by 2 years. Conflict is all over this film emotionally and physically, externally and internally, especially in the protagonist s case, Alan Turing, who isn t exactly a straight forward character. As humans we generally feel sympathy towards any human, creature, or thing that is unfairly put against or struggles against the odds just like Alan Turing in the film The Imitation Game . A few examples of odds being stacked against Turing are; that he was homosexual in a time where this was seen to be a crime and he is blackmailed and bullied for this all through his life, he was antisocial and very awkward to socialize with, and more simply because all odds were stacked against him to crack the Enigma code Alan Turing in The Imitation Game by Morten Tyldum had odds stacked against him as he lived in a time period where being homosexual could get you arrested and then chemically castrated as it was also seen as a curable disease. I agree completely with the initial statement as it is a natural instinct for humans to feel sympathy towards a Character like Alan Turing when all he can do is be himself. Consequently the turnover in this sector is insignificant. When explored for accurate data on labour turnover in the self employed holiday theme park sector with some employees, information was very limited. Some media articles on turnover in a particular HTP i.e. Waihi Beach TOP 10 Holiday Resort states that their turnover has grown strongly, averaging 17% year on year growth, and some years as high as 25%(Voxy News Engine, 2011). Since, the article does not explain the reason for the turnover but an assumption can be made from the types of visitors at HTP, which is the employees employed at these places, ought to be travellers on holiday work visa. 4. Wages: Tourism is a service industry and high quality tourism experiences rely on delivery of world class service standards. Consecutively to provide a world class service, the industry requires skilled labour force. A tight labour market demands attractive and competitive pay rates and working conditions. As we all know we had a horrific accident when the Challenger was launched on January 28, 1986. There were seven crew members who lost their lives when the Challenger blew up within only 73 seconds of flight. This was a major setback in the United States space explorations and prompted NASA to temporarily suspend all future shuttle missions. First, we take a look at all the years of research and designs that are completed over the years; thus, we have to trust that we are receiving the most up to date research and findings. The possibility of some primary O ring erosion was found acceptable because of the redundancy of the secondary O ring. Over a period of time, the amount of erosion that was acceptable grew increment by increment. The Okaying of the Challenger launch was the result of day to day decisions made over a period of years a kind of incremental acceptance of deviance that Vaughan compares to Hannah Arendt s banality of evil. Analysis of Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra Essay Analysis of Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra The most influential writer in all of English literature, William Shakespeare was born in 1564 to a successful middle class glove maker in Stratford upon Avon, England. Shakespeare attended grammar school, but his formal education proceeded no further. In 1582 he married an older woman, Anne Hathaway, and had three children with her. Around 1590 he left his family behind and traveled to London to work as an actor and playwright. Public and critical acclaim quickly followed, and Shakespeare eventually became the most popular playwright in England and part owner of the Globe Theater. Shakespeare s primary source for Antony and Cleopatra was the Life of Marcus Antonius contained in Plutarch s Lives of the Noble Grecians and Romans, which was translated into English by Sir Thomas North in 1579. North s language was so rich that Shakespeare incorporated large, relatively unchanged excerpts of it into his text. The plot of the play also remains close to North s history, although characters like Enobarbus and Cleopatra s attendants are largely Shakespearean creations. The action of the story takes place roughly two years after the events of Shakespeare s earlier play about the Roman Empire, Julius Caesar. At the beginning of that tragedy, Caesar has triumphed over his rival Pompey the Great, the father of young Pompey in Antony and Cleopatra, and aspires to kingship. Caesar is then assassinated by Cassius and Brutus, who hope to preserve the Roman Republic. Instead, Cassius and Brutus are defeated by Mark Antony and Octavius Caesar, Julius s nephew, who then join Marcus Aemilius Lepidus to create a three man government, or triumvirate, over the empire. Historically, the action of Antony and Cleopatra takes place over a ten year span, whereas in the play the story is compressed to fit the needs of the stage. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They explain that during the last half of the nineteenth century, an outward oriented period of growth started in Latin America, based on the export of raw materials to emerging industrial nations. Unlike the ruling classes in other parts of the world, the so called oligarchic order in Latin America concentrated the resulting large surplus in the hands of small traditional elites who imitated the consumption patterns of European upper classes, rather than seeking to enhance their countries education, technology and production infrastructure (Arocena and Senker 2003). In the late 1950s and early 1960s, industrialization failed to reach a point at which it was self sustaining. While there were plants and factories in Latin America that could produce consumer goods, only a comparatively small wealthy segment of the population could afford to purchase these consumer goods as opposed to the large segment of the United States and West Europe populations. This restricted expansion of the internal market for manufactured consumer durables, and the expansion of manufacturing employment. Accordingly this did little or nothing to reduce inequality. Industrialization produced by inward investment and by internal consumption of expensive products could only be sustained in Latin America in a period when external funding was easy to obtain. This came to an end with the debt crisis of the 1980s. Latin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Online Gambling Act Research Paper Republicans in September of 2006 attached the UIGEA to the SAFE Port Act, a very popular bill designed to protect American ports from terrorism. By doing this, Republicans passed the bill without most Democrats even being able to read it. It was likely believed that without it being attached to another bill, it would not have passed, as many similar bills had been turned down. It was subsequently signed into law by President Bush on October 13. The formulation of the policy was not to criminalize individual Americans who were gambling. Instead, the act makes it illegal for banks and financial institutions to process transactions for Internet gambling websites. (Rainey, 150) Therefore, instead of turning more Americans into criminals, the act simply cut off the money flow going into the foreign online casinos. The act basically defined illegal internet gambling as gambling that states had already made illegal under their own laws. This meant that all 50 states likely had different rules and regulations by which this bill must be interpreted. It also meant that 2 states, Utah and Hawaii, did not allow any form of gambling at all. For most states, the ability for an institution to sell gambling means obtaining a license. This play was written by Ellen McLaughlin, directed by Evan Parry, and produced by the College of Charleston s Department of Theatre and Dance. McLaughlin wrote a moving script that portrays the struggles these women are forced to face such as prostitution and slavery. Parry displayed an emphasis on the art of dreaming and the anguish of detachment. The Trojan Women was not a play for all types of audiences due to the high level of interpretation required for the viewer. Personally, this play is not one I would see twice. However, the acting, the set design, and the direction tied together interestingly to make this production. Initially, the acting was stellar and amplified to clarify the theme of the play. In the beginning, the chorus of Trojan women laughed, danced, and displayed an unbreakable strong bond between women that could not be broken by the inevitable war. The women s spirits diminished through their actions as the play progressed ultimately showing enslavement to the Greeks. A few roles complimented with unique performers emerged from the rest.
