Introduction. Epic Epiccare Is Rated As The Best Acute
Introduction
EPIC EpicCare is rated as the best Acute care and Ambulatory EMR for large hospitals with
more than 75 physicians (KLAS Research,2017). As Houston Methodist (HM) is committed to
Leading medicine and improve patient experience, the leadership decided in 2013 to shift from
MethOD an EMR based on AllscriptsВ® to a new EHR looking for an integrated solution that
will help build a complete and robust patient story, easily accessible by the care team to help them
make more informed decisions in order to achieve better health outcomes, improve
communications, and get patients more involved by providing them with convenient online tools.
HM started the vendor selection process in 2014 and in 2015 they decided to go for EPIC EpicCare

I attended several meetings where HM EPIC Leaders are preparing community hospitals wave 2
for the transition to EPIC. HM are following the PROSCI ADKAR model (Hiatt, 2016) to manage
such a huge change, they are targeting to prepare the whole operational team for the EMR adoption
and it is not just an IT solution implementation.
As HM are planning for several waves of go live for other community hospitals along with plans to
upgrade EpicCare to version (20), I was asked to review high priority issues that were reported
during the community hospital wave 1 (CH1) go live to the command center leadership and try to
identify the key factors impacting user experience during such phase and come up with
recommended solutions to control it.
Learning Objectives and Expected Outcomes
The learning objectives for the Epic go live experience were:
+ Examine how informatics concepts and best practices learned, such as usability, visualization,
workflow analysis, integration, assessment, and evaluation, are considered in an EHR go live.

How Learning Areas Such As The Arts And Literacies Are...
1.Discuss how learning areas such as the arts and literacies are woven into an integrated curriculum,
with reference to the Aotearoa New Zealand context and Te Whariki (Ministry of education, 1996).
Arts and literacies are woven into an integrated curriculum giving children the ability to problem
solve, communicate without language and express themselves in a verbal and non verbal way. A
child s learning development is influenced by their communication with other children and adults,
the environment, philosophy and the facilities in the centre (Educational Review Office. 2011). Te
Whariki perspective is that a child participates in the arts: for personal, social and cultural purposes,
allowing that child to becoming confident and competent. A child will contribute their individual
abilities and perspectives with others making sense of their worlds (Ministry of Education. 2009).
Te Whariki is an integrated curriculum this is evident by the woven mat (Ministry of Education
1996. P13) this shows how the arts and literacies can be integrated, throughout the New Zealand
curriculum Te Whariki in a New Zealand context. To form the mat there are four lots of principles
which include; Holistic Development, Empowerment, Family and community and relationships.
There are also five lots of strands including contribution, communication, exploration, well being
and belonging. The principles and strands which are interwoven all support and promote the child s
holistic development.

D.H.Lawrence Sons and Lovers
In Sons and Lovers, Paul is not really torn between Miriam and Clara but rather between his mother
and his father. Discuss.
Sons and Lovers is considered one of the greatest English novels of the twentieth century. Centred
on the lives of an English rural family, the novel explores issues relating to marriage, family,
industrialism, class and sexuality. While the first sections of the book focus on the early marriage
of Mr and Mrs. Morel, it is their second son Paul who comes to dominate the work. Shy, clever,
sensual, and in many ways mirroring D.H.Lawrence himself, Paul is an artist brought into the world
as an unwanted burden and by the end of the novel left meaningless and derelict. It is the interim,
the life of Paul, that makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paul opts for the lower desires in choosing Clara. From the offset, it is clear that their relationship
is much more physical. Their raunchy outdoor adventures and visits to the park are in stark
contrast to Paul and Miriam s friendly walks in the wood. Furthermore, the corporeal
descriptions and body imagery Lawrence uses in detailing Paul and Clara together reflect the
physical nature of their relationship. We are told, He touched her. His whole body was
quivering with the sensation (p.369) and of his bodily tension he experiences when he is
waiting for Monday to arrive so he can hold Clara. The corporeal descriptions of shoulders,
hands, ears, hair, and breasts amid kissing stand in contrast to the descriptions we got of Miriam
which were mostly limited to her eyes. While their relationship is physical in a way Paul and
Miriam s never was, it too is limited. In possessing the physical connection Paul loses the spiritual
one. His feeling for Mrs.Dawes...was shallow and temporal, compared with his love for herself
[Miriam] (p.337). The two did not have the same intimacy of soul. This is highlighted by the fact
that Clara does not have the same interest in his art; she does not understand it according to Paul.
Mrs. Morel gives an accurate depiction in saying She seems straight; you know not a bit deep, not
a bit . Paul is thus

Art During The Renaissance
The Renaissance, also known to many as the rebirth had an extreme impact on art and architecture
and many historians believe this period is studded with artists and architects. Through the 15th
century cultural and scientific advances were made through art and architecture. Starting in the
14th century, the Renaissancewas a time when scholars, sculptors and painters rediscovered the
great works of ancient Greece and Rome. They also quickly developed new skills in sculpture and
more realistic and ambitious ways to paint.
The rediscovery of classical civilization in the early Renaissance encouraged people to take interest
in themselves as individual and in the world around them. The main Subjects of medieval art had
been religious although artist adopted a much greater range of subject matter but the picture still
formed religious meanings. During the Renaissance, Florence is known as the centre of early Italian
Renaissance art, launching the careers of many famous artist in 15th century Italy. The Renaissance
is a studded period of brilliance in visual arts. Much of the art produced during the early
Renaissance was commissioned by the wealthy merchant families of Florence. This also meant that
the merchants would receive painting from the artists. These paintings were very important parts
of their home as it was a symbol of wealth. As artists become more skilled, they gained in both
confidence and technical ability, producing some of the finest works of art the world

The Effects Of Alcohol And Alcoholism On The United Kingdom
Alcohol is defined by Wester Dictionary as a drink (as whiskey or beer) containing ethanol.
Alcoholism is defined by the medical dictionary as a chronic progressive potentially fatal
psychological and nutritional disorder associated with excessive and usually compulsive drinking
of ethanol and characterized by frequent intoxication leading to dependence on or addiction to the
substance, impairment of the ability to work and socialize, destructive behaviors (as drunken
driving), tissue damage (as cirrhosis of the liver), and severe withdrawal symptoms upon
detoxification. Drinking alcoholhas been around since man was able to crush grapes. As the United

A brief history about both the countries and drinking habits:
Several Native American civilizations developed alcoholic beverages in pre Columbian times. A
variety of fermented beverages from the Andes region of South America were created from corn,
grapes or apples, called chichi, written in an article by Drug Free World organization (A Drug Free
World, P.1). From the beginning of America there has always been alcohol/alcoholism
. Drinking
also has shaped the land in the 1700s and 1800s. Most areas of social life was at the gin mill or
tavern. Experts say that the Revolution from England beginnings started in a tavern. Then The
nineteenth century brought a change in attitudes and the temperance movement began promoting
the moderate use of alcohol which ultimately became a push for total prohibition, said Drug Free
World (A Drug Free World, P.1). Today alcohol is widely accepted as well as demonized at the
same time for those who drink it before the legal age.
The U.K. has a vast history of drinking from Medieval times to the present. Most notably were
these events... By the end of the middle ages, most European nations had developed their own
distinctive brewing and distilling styles. Throughout this period up until the 17th century, alcohol
was still widely praised, especially by the Church, which was at that time the arbiter of morality.

Gender Role Portrayal And The Disney Princesses
At the beginning of this class, I had very little confidence in my ability to convey my ideas
through writing. Now that I have reached the end of this course, I have learned many techniques
and skills that have helped me with my various writing projects throughout the semester as well
as my final research project. The first course outcome that I really worked toward throughout the
semester is being able to engage with texts critically and to incorporate the ideas from those texts
into my own work. From essentially day one of this course there were assigned readings of
Giroux s The Mouse that Roared. After each reading, there would be an analysis of the dense text
during the following day of class. In addition to Giroux, there were also several... Show more

My first real try at making academic arguments was rather effective, my Pinocchio archival research
project garnered much positive feedback and even went on to compete in the Save Our Stories
digital archives competition. I successfully used my primary research on the illustration and on
Disney s Pinocchio movie to support all the arguments that I made in the essay. On the other hand,
my next attempt at making a strong academic argument, which was about gender role portrayal in
Disney, was a total flop. I made a reasonable argument, but I had neglected to provide substantial
supporting evidence to back up my claim. Thankfully, the feedback that I received on that post
allowed me to see what I had done incorrectly, and afterward I went back through the article and
found the information that would have supported my argument. Another one of my attempts at
making an argument was in the New Orleans Tumblr post. Facing an issue similar to the gender
roles post, I could summarize the experiences of the trip very well; however, this time my issue
was that I did not fully develop my argument. The supporting information that I needed was present,
but I only partially followed through the comparison that I was making, which was the argument in
this case. Finally, there is my research project s argument. The argument I make in my research

In many cases, the emergence of monopolies linked to the provision by the government to an
individual or company exclusive rights to sell the goods (tobacco, salt, etc.).
A classic example of a monopoly that arises due to the possession of a resource, such as a diamond

The power of a government created monopoly over the market depends on the existence of close

Thus, the classical problem of maximizing profit is transformed into the problem of maximizing
profit, taking into account the expected actions of competitors.
The subject s behavior in a situation where a decision on further action presupposes possible
retaliatory actions by other market entities is called strategic behavior. Such behavior is studying
the theory of games (game theory). This branch of mathematics is designed for analysis of
equilibrium and possible strategies for the participants in the game situations, that means when the
decision of one party affect the position of others. Game theory helps us understand oligopoly and
other situations where players interact and behave strategically.
The simplest case the game is a game between two players with two possible outcomes and
simultaneous moves, called prisoner s dilemma .
The essence of the game is as follows: Police caught two criminals accused of committing a crime,
and conducts the questioning of each of them in different rooms. Criminals do not have the ability
to communicate. The police want to be recognized for each of the perpetrators of a crime. Each of
the criminals has two options indications: to confess to a crime or not to confess.
If both the perpetrator confessed to the crime, then each receives 2 years in prison.
If both do not admit of the criminal, the fully blocked fault is difficult to prove and each receives

The And The Sacrifice Of Isaac By Peter Paul
A painting is a scene, frozen in time. Artists can bring them to life. Catching the emotions of
whatever is depicted. The bible is full of memorable scenes, with thousands of years of art to
capture the intensity of the stories.
My Journey to The Sacrifice of Isaac by Peter Paul Rubens begin when I saw a painting at the
Nelson Atkins Museum of Art almost six years ago in a grand room, with tens of other paintings
and high, echoing ceilings. I stood in front of a massive, Renaissance era piece. Without looking at
the title or artist s statement, I knew it was of Abraham sacrificing Isaac. It had the iconic look of
one of the most infamous stories from the bible.
And when I remembered that painting, years later, I knew that would be the focus of this paper.
So, with my painting in mind, I went to KSU online Hale Library ARTstor Abraham and Isaac .
But there were too many paintings. And the majority of them looked the same. After clicking
through about a dozen paintings from the Louvre, of Rembrandt and Domenichino and not finding
the specific painting from my memory, I went to the Nelson Atkins website and then cross
referenced with the list ARTstor was offering. The painting was Peter Paul Rubens The Sacrifice
of Isaac and I can say, details get lost in memory.
The painting, for the most part, kept with the scripture. Considering the scripture was bare bones
when it came to description, that wasn t an impossible feat. The binding of Isaac was similar in the

Do Studies Of Neurological Disorders Support The Claim...
Do studies of neurological disorders support the claim that specific language functions are
associated with distinct neural structures?
Student ID: 12926466 Studying language in terms of its localization of function has proven to be a
challenging task. Unlike other cognitive processes such as perception, attention and memory,
language research faces the constraint of studying merely human beings. Even though other types
of mammals and birds also develop some form of communication systems their complexity is not
even close to that of the human language. Facing these limitation, early researches that have
embarked on the task to clarify the neural mechanisms associated with language devised a study
field called Neurolinguistics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay will focus on the extent to which studies of neurological disorders support the claim that
distinct neural structures underline specific language functions and look into some of the most
valued contributions made by scientists studying this field. Pierre Paul Broca was one of the
earliest and most influential physicians and anatomists of his time, who in the 1860s conducted
some of the first work on the effects of brain damage on behaviour (Harley, 2008). In 1861 Broca

the hospital at the age of twenty one being subject to epileptic attacks and exhibiting lack of ability

language comprehension and intelligence were intact. On the day of Leborgne s death on 17

Effects of Concentration on Enzymatic Activity of Salivary Amylase
Rose Cruz
Arapahoe Community College
The purpose of this lab was to see if there was a relationship in the amount of concentration of
salivary amylase to the amount of time it took to break down starch. To determine if varying
concentrations affected the reaction time of the breakdown of starch, we used 4 different dilutions of
salivary amylase and used 2 controls (positive/negative). Amylase is an enzyme responsible for
breaking down starch into sugars. It is hypothesized that a lower concentration of amylase would
cause the breakdown of starch to take a longer period of time or a slower reaction rate as opposed
to a higher concentration of amylase. The results of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the concentration of the reactant (substrate) changes and is increased while the enzyme
concentration stays the same, the higher the concentration, the lower the reaction rate will be for
the enzyme to break down the increased amount of reactant (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity,
n.d.). The same applies for if the concentration of enzyme changes and is increased while other
factors stay the same. The higher the concentration of enzyme, the higher the reaction rate will be
as the enzyme breaks down the reactant. In this experiment concentration affects the enzymatic
activity increasing or decreasing the amount of concentration of amylase in a solution (Factors
affecting Enzyme Activity, n.d.). If there is more concentration of enzyme there are more active
sites available for a reaction to occur (Phenix, n.d.). To see the reaction and breakdown of starch
we used Lugol s Iodine Reagent since it turns black in the presence of starch (Bauer and Norman,
2015, p. 92). We placed mixtures of the amylase and starch solutions in each of the wells
containing Lugol s Iodine at 30 second intervals. Depending on what solution was used and how the
amylase broke down the starch, the color change was noted over time. Due to the information about
how concentration affects the reaction rate of an enzyme and substrate, we figured that a lower
concentration of amylase would cause a slower reaction rate meaning that with a

Vodka Memories of My Past
I have come to the conclusion that the past, which is merciless and perilous, is a foreign country,
and it cannot be altered. The past lives differently from the present, just as the future will live
differently from the very moment you begin to breathe air. Yet somewhere in the back of my mind
is this obsession. Whether this obsession has been drawn from the idea that my future will stay the
same as this exact moment is speculation, which I shall ignore till the day I die.
The other day I was looking at a ship, now in dreams ships can be glorious and beautiful or they
can hold every shattered dream. You can watch them sail away with distain, or pleasure. It s been

at you. But the ships already gone you can t chase those dreams as you can in the movies, when the

I have a single packet of cigarettes, sitting in the middle of an empty room. Yes, they are for
emergencies. That one moment that I feel myself break and I mean truly break, I shall rush to this

fresh start, turning over the page, and getting ready to stain the whiteness with a tea stain, ringing
the corner, and destroying the purity.

War Quotes From Things Fall Apart
Justice
The war was finally over. For months and years, battles had raged across our kingdom. They had
ravaged the land, destroying homes and villages. People went hungry as fires devoured any crops
that the enemy might be able to access. Fires still burned all across the kingdom, smouldering, but
not yet extinguished. Some days, it seemed the sky itself was afire. People had to run from their
homes, men hurried to join the fighting, and families were broken apart. Some had thought that the
war would never end. Hopes were dashed as battles were fought with no clear victor. There was
no reason to plant crops, to raise a family, or to hope. The war had taken almost everything we had.
But it was over. We had defeated the rebel army and captured their commander. Then, he knelt
before me. I stood over him with my sword drawn. It was my right, but more so, my duty, to bring
my king his head, so all could see what happens to those who rebel.
I paused, looking at him carefully. My mind spun with questions. How was it possible that one man
s ambition could destroy an entire kingdom? Tear apart families? Condemn people to hardship? I
suppose we should have known. Ever since he was a young man, he had to make things right. Even
as a child, he was sometimes foolish in his pursuit of justice. But who could have foreseen that this

Realism and Neo-Realism Essay

The most historically entrenched theoretical perspective in international relations theory is that of
classical realism. Surprisingly though classical realism was not sensationalized in the international

and in 1948 Hans J. Morgenthau made the great leap into contemporizing classical realism theory
with his six principles of political realism, the basics placing the state as the central power in the IR
system.
Barely three decades later the world has developed so rapidly that theorists such as Kenneth Waltz

With that Morgenthau insists ...all politics is a struggle for power that is inseparable from social
life itself. (Lebow, 2010) [Power s] content and its use are determined by the political and cultural
environment. (Morgenthau, 2004) For that reason war becomes a regular condition of IR in the
classical realist s theory, simply because war is the nature of human beings and power is the end
all means by which national interests are secured and advanced rather than as a consequence of a
possible lack of understanding about historical circumstance, their level of understanding or even
perhaps because their leaders were objectively flawed themselves.
While classical realists recognize that states exist in an anarchical self help system where they
must rely on power to protect and control their existence it is there that they suddenly divorce the
state from its domestic civil society as well as any other international actors aside from other
nation states proclaiming autonomy in their own political realms. This is in order to recognize
and pursue the interests of the nation [state] as a whole, and not those of particular powerful
groups within the community... . (Grieco, 1997) This comes as no surprise so long as we recall
that states are and will always be obsessed with their own national security, their ability to be able
to protect and at best advance themselves in whatever capability possible which means having the

Benefits Of Legalizing Abortion
Over the years, abortion has been a large source of discussion with people arguing whether or not
it should be legalized. However, it has been shown in the past that making abortion illegal would
not stop abortion and neither would it stop the death rate from abortion. There s a chance that the
death rate will only rise. In addition, banning abortionwould not only take away a woman s right to
control her own life and health, but also force women to go through with a pregnancythey are
unprepared for. People from each side of the argument can agree that abortion can be prevented,
but a woman should not be forced to have a child when she is not prepared for it. Making
abortions illegal is not the way to prevent them, and in the long run, it... Show more content on

There are more safer and efficient options to get rid of abortion, but the option of having an
abortion should not be taken away from women. Preventing women who are unprepared to have a
child from having an abortion can also put that woman and child into a bad situation and it is very
rare that a single woman will put her child up for adoption. Finding common ground on the
abortion debate is difficult due to the different moral beliefs of each side, but in the end, simply
banning abortion is not going to stop it and will only worsen the issue at

International Cricket Essay
South Africa is one country where India have always been found out. Only two victories out of
17 Test matches in the Rainbow Nation, is a clear reflection of their struggle on those wickets,
where there has been a plenty of pace, bounce and sideways movement for the fast bowlers, both
in the air and off the pitch. In fact, in international cricket, for any team, winning a Test series in
South Africa is regarded as one of the toughest challenges and no team barring England and
Australia have achieved this glory so far. Hence, prior to such a high profile assignment, your
preparations have to be full proof if you are going there with a realistic chance of winning a series

To acclimatise themselves to the English conditions, they got just one three day game before
the first Test and one in the middle of the series. Later that year, in Australia, they were again

day game before the first Test. Following those series of overseas defeats, there was a lot of hue
and cry in the Indian cricket fraternity. Despite that, in the next tours of England and Australia,
the Indians got only one extra warm up game. They lost both the series with 3 1 and 0 2 margins
respectively. Once again, prior to this important tour of South Africa, the same lethargic
approach is being repeated by BCCI. However, this lack of co operation from the board has
recently forced the Indian team management to come out with a radical idea of using the just
concluded India Sri Lanka series as a warm up for the tour of South Africa. The thank thank tried
to emulate the foreign conditions by asking for green tracks for the series. Yes [we requested for
the pace friendly wickets], because unfortunately, we get only two days before we fly to South

what s coming ahead of us. Had we got a month off, we would have done a proper preparation in a

Negative Effects Of Social Networking
Student Answer: The use of social networking comes with mixed reviews because this tool can
be used to both grow a company and potentially harm a company . Companies that utilize social
networks can benefit form the influx of customers. Using social network platforms allow the
customer to reach millions of customers. ` The viral nature of social networking encourages all
the people who are connected to you to share what they like, plan to attend, or want to participate
in` (Minerof, 2010). In the case of Facebook, you can see the pages, companies, campaigns, and
events your friends like and plan to participate in . Seeing these actives on your time line most
times lead you to also look at the company. These is a great marketing tool. `Social networking
does have its pitfalls` (Minerof, 2010).Companies that allow their employees to access Facebook
may be creating opportunities for unethical practice, especially when employees overly engage
during work hours. Employees can sometimes over engage in infrequent status updates, game
applications and viewing online images and videos. Blurring the lines between personal and
business use (Minerof, 2010). Allowing employees to use social networks for work related
activities causes distractions from social media that makes the negative impact of such media on
productivity to outweigh the benefits (Minerof, 2010). The internet may be a distraction from work

Essay On Las Vegas Natural History Museum
For my first project I chose to visit a local museum, one that is quit popular Nevada, known as the
Las Vegas Natural History Museum. This museum was a natural history based museum, meaning
that exhibits show cased things such as, international wildlife to the treasures of Egypt. Provided
that, the museum showed a great variation of artifacts, thus capturing the attention of all age
groups. Also, the way in which in which the items where displayed showed just how much
character could be in one building. Therefore, I am going to be expressing how artifacts and their
context were displayed, where the item where from and the authentication of the displays, if any
moral or ethical issues were expressed in any of the displays, and lastly what exhibit and artifact I
found to be the most interesting. First, I would like to start by communicating how items and their
context were displayed. For majority of the exhibits, artifact and animals were arranged in natural
behavioral was, meaning that animals and items were shown as if they were engaging in natural
physical manner. For example, in the exhibit if International Wildlife, animals were displayed
interacting with one another as they would in the wilderness. As far as the context, artifacts were

having such a large variety of exhibits. I will definitely be visiting the museum again in the near
future and plan on taking my family, for I believe they would love it just as much as I did.
Therefore, I believe that everyone could learn more about natural history at this museum, and also

Death Of Ivan Ilych, Metamorphosis, And Heart Of Darkness
When reading a book, the reader is always trying to figure out the theme of the story. Is it love?
Is it death? Every writer puts a different theme in their stories. Some themes relate to each other.
However, there are some that are a bit different. A theme is the subject of a talk, a piece of
writing, a person s thoughts, or an exhibition. In other words, the theme is considered the topic
of the story. In this essay, I will talk about the themes in three of the stories this trimester. I will
then compare each one of them to each other. Three of the stories that have been discussed this
trimester are Death of Ivan Ilych, Metamorphosis, and Heart of Darkness. The Death of Ivan
Ilych is about a man who has been ill for a very long time. He was a man who always worked and
never had any time for his family. At the end of his life, he asked god and his family for
salvation. He was able to be forgiven by his family, and he died knowing his family forgave him.
A theme of this story was artificial life and authentic life. The artificial life is a deception that
hides life s true meaning and leaves one terrified and alone at the moment of death. This life was
represented by Ivan believing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One theme of Heart of Darkness is isolation. Kurtz, who is the main man of the Congo, is
separated from civilization by a river. The river resembles an immense snake uncoiled, with its
head in the sea, its body at rest curving afar over a vast country, and its tail lost in the depths of
the land (10). The Congo creates the feeling of darkness and despair, along with isolation.
Another theme is madness as a result of imperialism. Africa is responsible for mental
disintegration as well as physical illness. The madness the result of power. Kurtz from the
beginning is mad. He is removed from social interaction and is given power of his own body and
mind. He has no authority to answer to but himself. However, this is more than one man can

The Importance Of City Elections In Canada
This paper will examine municipal elections in British Columbia, taking Surrey and Vancouver
as direct examples to show that a ward system would be a much more fair and democratic way to
elect city councils. Municipal elections in these two cities currently take place in an at large
system. The argument behind why this system is superior is that city councils have a more
citywide approach to representation, as opposed to a regional one. Many political scientists have
argued that a ward system, which splits cities into districts that are all represented by at least a
single councillor, are a better way to hold more democratic and representative elections. Because of
the current lack of representation for some lower income or underprivileged... Show more content

The goal of ward systems is to make sure that all sections of a city are equally represented by at
least a single councillor. Even though cities such as Vancouver have for some reason rejected it
(as seen in 2004), it is a much more fair system to all citizens of a city. The at largesystem easily
tends to favour wealthier communities in a city. When taking Vancouver as an example, the
Berger Commission of 2004 found that [it] is generally accepted that the majority of city
councillors have been from the West Side. As Rebecca Dhindsa puts it, the West Side is an area
with higher incomes and less unemployment than Vancouver s East Side. This shows that
councillors tend to run from wealthier segments of a city in at large systems. This can be because
they may be more financially well off than the candidates from the underprivileged sections, which
can affect campaign financing, or as the Berger Commission states, the richer and better educated
have a greater chance of informing themselves on civic issues and participating in political affairs.
The defence that this system is better for a council with a citywide focus is also largely false.
Royce Koop and John Kraemer found that many councillors in at large municipalities still favour a
certain area. When interviewing Councillor Bruce Hayne of Surrey, they were told this by him; I
think everybody has some affinity to the geography of where they live. I live in Cloverdale so I

The Slavery Of The United States
Before the 19th C, literature in the United States (US) was largely characterized on the basis of its
diverse nature. Using different forms of documentations such as travel accounts and journals, early
European explorers noted down their different experiences in the New World. Owing to the fact
that these new Explorers were very religious, most of their writings were defined by their religious
convictions especially the Puritanfaith. In addition to these writings being shaped by religion, most
of the narratives revolved around the common phenomenon of slavery. It was the time when
emancipation was being advocated by many people especially in the North States which was anti
slavery. Most of the narratives in those times revolved around... Show more content on

Before the coming of the Europeans, the natives held the best parts of the land and when these
settlers came, they took the fertile lands and most economical viable lands for themselves. Thus,
the economy of the US continued to grow while the state of the native Indians continued to
worsen as they lost their power and resources. It could not have been possible for the US to have
developed in those exponential terms without acquiring land from the natives at almost no cost.
When the settlers set their feet in the New World, they had one agenda which was to achieve
economic growth of the new land at all costs. It was then achieved at the expense of the Native
Indians who had to be stripped of their land and resources. In most of the narratives, there is a lot
of Puritan religious agenda that is directly based on the Bible as their religious authority. They base
their arguments on the fact that God promises to freely provide for his children through His grace.
This kind of belief is not found within the Native Indians religious belief system and thus they were
viewed as Godless. In a way, the Western Christian values largely despised on the religious system
of the Indians which heightened the tensions between the two communities. This textual exchange
between factual and spiritual information within the

The Persistence of Memory
Spain, 1931, Salvador Dali creates an abstract oil on canvas portrayal or the knowledge that is
gained through ones dreams, visions, and intuition. The Persistence of Memory, 1931 portrays an
abstract view of time and visions that Dali envisioned. Perhaps, his most famous work was The
Persistence of Memory, which he painted in his younger years in the 30s. The Persistence of
Memory, 1931, elevates the influence of the subconscious mind through fantasy like images, color,
composition, and thought provoking images.
Dali uses abstract images to represent a balance of altered views, conveying what is reality and
what is from the mind s eye. Note the mysterious rugged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Dali also used the use of two secretive elevated rectangular planes in the work which balance out
the left side of the painting. A cold tree trunk standing on the largest elevated surface leads the
viewer s eyes in a circle back to where focus began at. This stub is seemingly cold and lifeless, with
one time piece hanging from its outstretched limb. Dali stimulates the spectator s mind, leading the
individual on a subconscious escapade (as he initially intended during composition).
The different abstract images shown in The Persistence of Memory, 1931, create a merry go round
as each image leaves the observer in a state of wonder, drawing them in. The image of what seems
to be some sort of shapeless human form brings about questions of the relevance of the images
existence. Dali attempted to portray an insignificant self image in a world possessing a significant
amount of more chaos and importance. These timepieces are intended to demonstrate the
importance in daily living that time and measurement play in each individual s life. The melting
watches are a profound representation that is frequently linked with hallucinations and surrealism.
These images are used to convey an alternate sense of reality which takes place in human cognition,
further guiding individuals away from the actuality of reality. In my opinion, Dali accurately
portrays the human mind in the way that it views precisely what it favors. His extremely

The Questioning of God and the Loss of Faith in Religion...
Searching for the meaning of life, people constantly question religion. What is our purpose?
Why are we here? What is the meaning of our lives? In the third century BC people saw their
lives falling apart; they wanted a new meaning of religion. During this time the Temple was
destroyed, which will be explained further on. The destruction of a significant religious figure
such as the Temple causes people to question the purpose of religion, especially if it is going to fail
them. Ecclesiastes suggests the extent to which theological systems are not just abstract ways of
viewing the world; they answer the questions of life, responding to the issues real people face in
real life situations. Thus, to understand Ecclesiastes, we must... Show more content on

People began to realize that Ecclesiastes ideology truly was a logical explanation for the reason
why they were placed in their current situation. The people also took Ecclesiastes definition of
religion and applied it to their every day lives.
The meaning of life is difficult to explain considering the time period. Ecclesiastes argues that
wisdom cannot achieve its goal; that a remote God rules over a crooked world; and death did not
take virtue or vice into consideration (Anchor Bible Dictionary p.275). Hence, Ecclesiastes
advocated enjoyment as the wisest course of action during youth before the cares of advancing
years made that response impossible (Anchor Bible Dictionary p.275). Ecclesiastes discovers
that people s purpose in life as unknown. In life there is no final ultimate pronouncement, nothing
is achieved and similarly human desires are left unsatisfied (Oxford Annotated Bible p.842).
Ecclesiastes sees life as not changing and not being remembered. To achieve any sort of
meaning of life, one must be wise: for in much wisdom is much vexation (Eccl. 1:18), being
wise will create confusion to those who are not wise, leading towards understanding God s plan.
People who are knowledgeable will be able to comprehend God s divine meaning; that meaning
being to large to grasp by humans. However wisdom will not change one s fate in life. The
inevitable fate for all is the same. What happens to the fool will

The Golden Age of Heian
Periods of time with peace and stability politically and religiously, paired with flourishing arts,
are called Golden Ages . One thriving, revolutionizing time like this occurred in Heian, Japan
from 794 to 1185 C.E., under the rule of the Fujiwara family. Succeeding the Nara period, many
aspects of the Heian culture, such as Buddhism and the writing system, were borrowed from
China. However, in this time, Japan took those preconceived ideas and really made them their
own, adding many new ones along the way. The peace and stability, as well as influential literature
greatly contributed to this period s golden legacy. Poetry during this time, most importantly Lady
Murasaki s novel, Tale of Genji , reflected this time period and forever changed today s writing,
making this era a truly prosperous golden age.
This thriving golden age might have flourished, but it started out small, just like any other era. The
Heian period began when the capital was moved from Nara to Heian, modern day Kyoto. Many
noble families moved along with it (Charles). The Nara period had just ended, and aristocrats
violently fought for power. Therefore, for the sake of peace, that s why the capital was moved.
The Fujiwara family rose to power, and the golden age began. As Japan s second great period of
Japanese culture arose, it brought many accomplishments with it (Fitzgerald).
Peace and stability, especially politically,

Significance of Theories, Models and Framework Theories and models are abstract, broadly
applicable ideas whereas frameworks are strategic and provide a systematic way to develop
interventions (Tabak et al., 2012). Theories, models, and frameworks help researchers to organize
their findings, tie facts from other studies and presents more useful body of evidence. Theories not
only provide direction to the researchers but also motivates them to recognize new developments
and design appropriate nursing interventions (Polit Beck, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Roger s theory acknowledges the relationship of human beings with their environment and
emphasizes the focus on holistic health. Guided imagery (GI) is a non invasive, inexpensive,
therapeutic intervention that can help patients to manage their pain and depression. The pain has
both physiological and psychological component, and the study findings revealed that GI had a
positive impact on the psychological aspect by showing improvement in signs of depression and
better pain control. Roger s theory provides a concrete basis for this study and supports the
findings to accept guided imagery as one of the interventions for managing pain in Fibromyalgia

Sweet Dreams Incorporated Case Study
Sweet Dreams Incorporated (SDI) utilizes two manufacturing plants both in North Carolina and
South Florida to produce mattresses and box springs. SDI has encountered financial difficulty
since the beginning of the 1990s that has been prolonged due to the ineffective strategies they
have implemented. As the problem prolongs, the company is faced with potentially being forced
to file for bankruptcy as it s current, quick, and debt ratios, all have failed to meet the contractual
limits of the agreement between SDI and First International Bank (Sweet Dreams, Inc., 1997).
Furthermore, SDI has recently signed a contract for a plant expansion that would require an
additional $9,500,000 of capital that is regarded as essential for the survival of... Show more content

Lax Credit Standards:
In an effort to remedy such disproportion between inventory and demand, in 1995 SDI began to
negligently issue credit lines. As exemplified by Table 2, due to such leniency net sales continued
to increase between 1995 and 1997 (Appendix A). However, as illustrated by Table 1 the relaxed
credit standards caused a 39% spike in accounts receivable from 1994 to 1995 (Appendix A).
Consequently, the increase in inventory and accounts receivable negatively impacted the current
ratio of the firm. As a result, the firm s liquidity dropped significantly below industry average in
1995 to 1.90 from 2.96, well above the 2.25 average, in 1994 (Appendix C). Therefore, the cash
flow of the firm was negatively affected by the issuance of credit as accounts receivable continued
to rise.
Loan Reliance:
As inventories and account receivable steadily increased, the firm distressingly opted for a short
term solution. By means of long term lending in 1994 and higher short term credit in 1994 and
1995, SDI chose to temporarily resolve the current issues of the firm without considering the
potential long term ramifications. As illustrated in Table 1, long term loans remained the same
while short term bank loans increased by 71% between 1994 and 1995; a drastic change within a
short span of time (Appendix A). Similarly, as depicted in Table 2, the interest on the firm s short
term loans rose from 1994 to 1995 whereas the

Sirenomeli Mermaid Syndrome
Sirenomelia, also referred to and more commonly known as Mermaid Syndrome, is an
extremely rare congenital disease characterized by the partial or complete fusion of the patient s
legs and feet, giving it the appearance of a mermaid s tail from Greek mythology. The degree of
severity can vary widely from person to person, in some cases the affected infant has only one
femur while in others they have two femurs pushed together into one sealed shaft of skin. Infants
affected may have one foot, both feet, or no feet at all. In fact there are seven ways to classify the
severity of the disorder which includes some of the aforementioned symptoms. The first through
seventh type are characterized by the following features, all thigh and leg bones are... Show more

Researchers believe that several environmental and genetic factors work together and play a role
in the development of Sirenomelia. The most popular medical theory suggests that Sirenomelia
could be caused by abnormalities in the blood circulating system within the embryo at an early
stage of development. Some affected individuals have been found to have a single large artery
followed by the absence of the usual two arteries that branch out to lower areas and carry blood
to the tail end of the embryo. The single artery that is present, which is referred to as a steal
vessel due to the fact that it essentially steals blood and nutrients from the lower part of the body,
diverts the flow of blood that normally circulates from the aorta to the lower portion of the embryo
back up to the placenta instead so the blood and nutrients that are needed never end up reaching the
tail end of the embryo. Due to the malnutrition from this lack of blood flow, the fetus fails to
develop two separate limbs. (National Organization for Rare Disorders, 2018) There is still much to
learn about what causes Sirenomelia since there is so little known about it currently. When

Spirometry Lab Report
The overarching goal of this experiment was to measure respiratory volumes and capacities using
spirometry (Marieb Smith, 2016). Spirometry is a technique which makes use of a device known
as a spirometer in order to determine values for inspiratory reserve volume, tidal volume,
expiratory reserve volume, as well as others, and thus has a practical use in the fields of anatomy
and medicine (Marieb Smith, 2016). Consequently, since this experiment deals extensively with the
processes involved in respiration, it is essential to have a sufficient level of background information
on the anatomy and physiology of the lungs (Marieb Smith, 2016).
The lungs are an essential part of the respiratory system, since their main purpose is to perform ...

Beginning with the inspiratory reserve volume, abbreviated as IRV, this value refers to how
much air one is able to actively inspire (Marieb Smith, 2016). This is followed by tidal volume, or
TV, which is the amount of air a person takes in and then expels in every breath under standard
conditions (Marieb Smith, 2016). The third value measured in this experiment was the expiratory
reserve volume, shortened to ERV, which denotes how much air one actively expires after breathing
normally, or after a tidal volume expiration (Marieb Smith, 2016). The final value was the total lung
capacity, or TLC, which refers to the total amount of air the lungs can hold after a having put in
the maximum effort in inspiration, and can also be calculated by the following formula:
TLC=TV+IRV+ERV+RV (Marieb Smith, 2016). RV, or residual volume, is how much air is left
behind in the lungs after an active effort to expire, and is noted to be around 1200mL or 1100mL
for men and women, respectively (Marieb Smith,

A Brief Look at Utilitarianism
Utilitarianism is an attractive philosophy which claims to replace arbitrary seeming rules by a
morality with a single coherent basis. As the most common form of consequentialism, based on the
pursuit of the greatest happiness of the greatest number, it argues that acts should be judged as right
or wrong according to their consequences. Because happiness is the only thing that is good in itself,
and unhappiness is the only thing that is inherently bad, everything else is only good or bad
according to its tendency to produce happiness or unhappiness. In a business type system,
utilitarianismis also attractive as a means of decision making in which the majority must choose
wisely. This type of decision making may have a positive effect on what action to take, but at the
same time it might have a cost that would not be taken lightly by a business.
From an engineer s and company s stand point, Utilitarianism would best fit, for the simple reason
that it will satisfy everyone, because it is more of a general theory, with a large margin area of
company and consumer satisfaction. Where other theories might be more specific to the situation,
with utilitarianism almost all fits within the category. This may be a good thing for a company, but
at the same time, one of the difficulties with the utilitarian standard is that it seems to sometimes
favor the greater aggregate good at the expense of a vulnerable minority; the minority being the
company s consumer (Rabins).

The Petroleum Industry In Odessa, Texas
The purpose of this research is to identify the impact of the petroleum industry on Odessa, Texas
during the 20th century. The main objective of this research is to explain how the massive
growth of the petroleum industry in Odessa came about and the social changes that had occurred
as a result of the thriving oil industry. Beginning in North Texas, the boom then spread to West
Texas when the United States became desperate for oil during and after World War I and II. This
research drew upon primary and secondary sources such as oral interviews, memoirs, articles and
books from the local University library. Upon examination of these sources it becomes clear that
the discovery of oil in Odessa, Texas became the foundation for the towns economic... Show more

There were previously no pipelines or permanent ways to transport the oil to the markets from
the Permian Basin. When the Texas and Pacific Railway was placed in service in 1881 from
Fort Worth to El Paso, Odessa s economy changed. When the Texas and Pacific Railway was
finally operational in Midland, it boosted Midland to become the oil business headquarter of the
Midland/Odessa area. Midland, Texas was the midway point between Fort Worth and El Paso,
hence the name Midland . This midway point made Midland the perfect place for a railway stop
during the establishment of the railway. Soon after the Texas and Pacific Railway was active
and Midland became an oil bustling business town with pump jacks littering the outskirts of the
town. Midland then became organized by its own county legislator in 1885. Oil businesses
needed a place for supplies and oil gusher production to be stored until transportation however,
the location needed to be outside of town but not far enough away where it would be a burden to
retrieve. That is what made Odessa the perfect place to store supplies as Midland was roughly
forty miles away. Odessa merely existed in name until it became organized in 1891 as a supply
center for many of the oil businesses located in Midland. The Texas and Pacific Railway placed the

Analysis Of George C. Marshall
Synthesis Essay George C. Marshall

Warren Bennis, a renowned scholar in leadership studies said, Leadership is the capacity to
translate vision into reality. (Bennis, 2014) Widely regarded as one of the greatest Generals in
U.S. military history and one of the most important men of the 20th century, George C. Marshall
was an extraordinary visionary and ethical leader. In this paper I will first, cover how George
Marshall used his understanding of pressures for organizational change to transform the post WWI
United States Army and how his transformational leadership put his vision into action. Next I will
cover how George Marshall was an ethical leader through ethical behavior and how his fair
mindedness helped create and enact the Marshall Plan. Last, I will relate the principle of a
visionary and ethical leader to my personal relevance. George C. Marshall was a strategic
visionary leader and an astute statesman. When Marshall was appointed as the Chief of Staff of
the Army in 1939 he knew that transforming the Army at a time of volatile and uncertain
environment was essential for survival . (Nelson, 1993) The flames of conflict worldwide seemed
about to get out of control. Europe stood on the verge of war. (Nelson, 1993) That same day
Germany invaded Poland and conducted what was known as the blitzkrieg. According to

Essay on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Born a Prince, Left a King
Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down, and I d like to take a
minute, just sit right there, I ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel air. These
are the opening lines to the intro song of the television comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel Air , that
me and every 90 s kids with a TV has had memorized since the day we first heard it. Even as you
read that first sentence, you can t help but to rap the words, and hum the tune as you envision a
young Will Smith spinning on his royal chair with the graffiti background. The effect of the lyrics
and the music video to this intro song goes way beyond pure entertainment value. The music video
and lyrics spread happiness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By making Will Smith appear like a typical, credible African American youth the appeal to the
viewers is strengthened.
However, the stereotypes are not the only example for ethos in the music video. Will s clothing
and vernacular make a good case for ethical appeal as well. Throughout the video Will is dressed
in loud bright colored clothing with various trendy accessories such as hats and sneakers. The
clothing helps Will to appeal to the younger viewers because it s something the viewers can
identify with. Also Will s upbeat tone and hipster lingo help his credibility of acting as an average
young black male.
While ethos plays a large role in the appeal of the video, pathos plays a role equally as large. The
pathological appeal in the music video is present from start to finish. The video opens with a
background soundtrack of an upbeat rap tune. The tune is catchy and grabs the viewer s attention
immediately. Will Smith compliments the catchy beat by rapping an energetic rap. The rap itself
demands for viewers attention because it appeals to their taste in music.
Whereas music is the main avenue of appeal in the video, there are other pathos elements
present. While Will is playing basketball, the ball accidently hits a nearby thug who takes offense
and physically confronts Will. The thug threatens and bullies Will until Will s mom gets so scared
for Will s well being that she sends him to live his aunt and uncle in Bel Air. Nearly every kid in

Food Stamp History
A History of Food Stamps
The primary goal of food stamps is to increase food security and reduce national hunger in the
United States. Each year, out of the one trillion dollars that the United States Government has to
spend on assistance and welfare, food stamps takes up about 70 billion dollars (The History of
NAP). The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or previously known as the Food
Stamp Program) started through the Agriculture Adjustment Act (AAA) and since then has spread
around its influence and authority and grown in size (Mary Clare Jalonick Associated). Throughout
the past 80 years, the Food Stamp Program has been modified and reformatted, and today it aids
more than 44 million Americans (Rude, Emelyn). The Food Stamp ... Show more content on

Johnson instated the Food Stamp Act which made the Food Stamp Program permanent. Congress
saw this as an opportunity to strengthen the agricultural economy; to help achieve a fuller and
more effective use of food abundances; to provide for improved levels of nutrition among low
income households through a cooperative Federal State program of food assistance to be operated
through normal channels of trade (Puro, Steven). In order for this program to function Congress
would distribute out paper food stamps each month through a welfare office to those personnel or
families who made the poverty line or below. Right after the Food Stamp Act of 1964 was adopted
by Congress and the United States, many legislators have debated funding, eligibility standards,
accessibility, and accountability (Food Distribution). However, this program did lead to a boost in
the economy. Not only did low income families get the nutritional supplements that they needed,
but it also caused food stamps to be cash equivalent to actual money which let customers buy other
grocery items that were not part of the food program which expanded options (Rude,

Museum Report At Los Angeles County Museum Of Art
Museum Report After visiting the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), I felt as if
this was an entire new experience for me, seeing that this was my first time to visit a museum.
Before entering the museum, I decided to analyze the front entrance of the Ahmanson building.
What I observed is that the inventor of the building kept it simple and precise, which there were
red metal bars that supported the front entrance. And there was a glass door incorporated into
the entrance as well, this glass door would consist of information of what type of art is inside.
For example, modern art, Islamic art, European art, and so on. As I went inside, I was welcomed
with an enormous piece of art that encompassed several geometric shapes. Likewise, this art
piece could be studied from multiple perspectives, from the first floor and second floor. As for
the work of arts, most of the art was displayed on white walls, it should be noted that the walls
were beginning to become dirty. One last thing about the interior of the building is that I
appreciated the atmosphere, since there was sufficient space to observe the art from different
viewpoints. That being said, I will now go on and discuss about the piece of art that spoke to me
(not literally). The piece of art that spoke to me was called The Liberator, in 1947, created by
Rene Magritte. Oil and canvas were the foundation that was utilized by Magritte, leading to the
formation of his painting. One of the main reasons why this piece

  • 2. Introduction. Epic Epiccare Is Rated As The Best Acute Introduction EPIC EpicCare is rated as the best Acute care and Ambulatory EMR for large hospitals with more than 75 physicians (KLAS Research,2017). As Houston Methodist (HM) is committed to Leading medicine and improve patient experience, the leadership decided in 2013 to shift from MethOD an EMR based on AllscriptsВ® to a new EHR looking for an integrated solution that will help build a complete and robust patient story, easily accessible by the care team to help them make more informed decisions in order to achieve better health outcomes, improve communications, and get patients more involved by providing them with convenient online tools. HM started the vendor selection process in 2014 and in 2015 they decided to go for EPIC EpicCare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As HM are planning for several waves of go live for other community hospitals along with plans to upgrade EpicCare to version (20), I was asked to review high priority issues that were reported during the community hospital wave 1 (CH1) go live to the command center leadership and try to identify the key factors impacting user experience during such phase and come up with recommended solutions to control it. Learning Objectives and Expected Outcomes The learning objectives for the Epic go live experience were: + Examine how informatics concepts and best practices learned, such as usability, visualization, workflow analysis, integration, assessment, and evaluation, are considered in an EHR go live. + ... • 3. How Learning Areas Such As The Arts And Literacies Are... 1.Discuss how learning areas such as the arts and literacies are woven into an integrated curriculum, with reference to the Aotearoa New Zealand context and Te Whariki (Ministry of education, 1996). Arts and literacies are woven into an integrated curriculum giving children the ability to problem solve, communicate without language and express themselves in a verbal and non verbal way. A child s learning development is influenced by their communication with other children and adults, the environment, philosophy and the facilities in the centre (Educational Review Office. 2011). Te Whariki perspective is that a child participates in the arts: for personal, social and cultural purposes, allowing that child to becoming confident and competent. A child will contribute their individual abilities and perspectives with others making sense of their worlds (Ministry of Education. 2009). Te Whariki is an integrated curriculum this is evident by the woven mat (Ministry of Education 1996. P13) this shows how the arts and literacies can be integrated, throughout the New Zealand curriculum Te Whariki in a New Zealand context. To form the mat there are four lots of principles which include; Holistic Development, Empowerment, Family and community and relationships. There are also five lots of strands including contribution, communication, exploration, well being and belonging. The principles and strands which are interwoven all support and promote the child s holistic development. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. D.H.Lawrence Sons and Lovers In Sons and Lovers, Paul is not really torn between Miriam and Clara but rather between his mother and his father. Discuss. Sons and Lovers is considered one of the greatest English novels of the twentieth century. Centred on the lives of an English rural family, the novel explores issues relating to marriage, family, industrialism, class and sexuality. While the first sections of the book focus on the early marriage of Mr and Mrs. Morel, it is their second son Paul who comes to dominate the work. Shy, clever, sensual, and in many ways mirroring D.H.Lawrence himself, Paul is an artist brought into the world as an unwanted burden and by the end of the novel left meaningless and derelict. It is the interim, the life of Paul, that makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Paul opts for the lower desires in choosing Clara. From the offset, it is clear that their relationship is much more physical. Their raunchy outdoor adventures and visits to the park are in stark contrast to Paul and Miriam s friendly walks in the wood. Furthermore, the corporeal descriptions and body imagery Lawrence uses in detailing Paul and Clara together reflect the physical nature of their relationship. We are told, He touched her. His whole body was quivering with the sensation (p.369) and of his bodily tension he experiences when he is waiting for Monday to arrive so he can hold Clara. The corporeal descriptions of shoulders, hands, ears, hair, and breasts amid kissing stand in contrast to the descriptions we got of Miriam which were mostly limited to her eyes. While their relationship is physical in a way Paul and Miriam s never was, it too is limited. In possessing the physical connection Paul loses the spiritual one. His feeling for Mrs.Dawes...was shallow and temporal, compared with his love for herself [Miriam] (p.337). The two did not have the same intimacy of soul. This is highlighted by the fact that Clara does not have the same interest in his art; she does not understand it according to Paul. Mrs. Morel gives an accurate depiction in saying She seems straight; you know not a bit deep, not a bit . Paul is thus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Art During The Renaissance The Renaissance, also known to many as the rebirth had an extreme impact on art and architecture and many historians believe this period is studded with artists and architects. Through the 15th century cultural and scientific advances were made through art and architecture. Starting in the 14th century, the Renaissancewas a time when scholars, sculptors and painters rediscovered the great works of ancient Greece and Rome. They also quickly developed new skills in sculpture and more realistic and ambitious ways to paint. The rediscovery of classical civilization in the early Renaissance encouraged people to take interest in themselves as individual and in the world around them. The main Subjects of medieval art had been religious although artist adopted a much greater range of subject matter but the picture still formed religious meanings. During the Renaissance, Florence is known as the centre of early Italian Renaissance art, launching the careers of many famous artist in 15th century Italy. The Renaissance is a studded period of brilliance in visual arts. Much of the art produced during the early Renaissance was commissioned by the wealthy merchant families of Florence. From the beginning of America there has always been alcohol/alcoholism . Drinking also has shaped the land in the 1700s and 1800s. Most areas of social life was at the gin mill or tavern. • 7. Gender Role Portrayal And The Disney Princesses At the beginning of this class, I had very little confidence in my ability to convey my ideas through writing. Now that I have reached the end of this course, I have learned many techniques and skills that have helped me with my various writing projects throughout the semester as well as my final research project. The first course outcome that I really worked toward throughout the semester is being able to engage with texts critically and to incorporate the ideas from those texts into my own work. From essentially day one of this course there were assigned readings of Giroux s The Mouse that Roared. After each reading, there would be an analysis of the dense text during the following day of class. In addition to Giroux, there were also several... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My first real try at making academic arguments was rather effective, my Pinocchio archival research project garnered much positive feedback and even went on to compete in the Save Our Stories digital archives competition. I successfully used my primary research on the illustration and on Disney s Pinocchio movie to support all the arguments that I made in the essay. On the other hand, my next attempt at making a strong academic argument, which was about gender role portrayal in Disney, was a total flop. I made a reasonable argument, but I had neglected to provide substantial supporting evidence to back up my claim. Thankfully, the feedback that I received on that post allowed me to see what I had done incorrectly, and afterward I went back through the article and found the information that would have supported my argument. Another one of my attempts at making an argument was in the New Orleans Tumblr post. Facing an issue similar to the gender roles post, I could summarize the experiences of the trip very well; however, this time my issue was that I did not fully develop my argument. The supporting information that I needed was present, but I only partially followed through the comparison that I was making, which was the argument in this case. Finally, there is my research project s argument. The argument I make in my research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In many cases, the emergence of monopolies linked to the provision by the government to an individual or company exclusive rights to sell the goods (tobacco, salt, etc.). A classic example of a monopoly that arises due to the possession of a resource, such as a diamond company. The power of a government created monopoly over the market depends on the existence of close substitute products. Thus, the classical problem of maximizing profit is transformed into the problem of maximizing profit, taking into account the expected actions of competitors. The subject s behavior in a situation where a decision on further action presupposes possible retaliatory actions by other market entities is called strategic behavior. Such behavior is studying the theory of games (game theory). This branch of mathematics is designed for analysis of equilibrium and possible strategies for the participants in the game situations, that means when the decision of one party affect the position of others. Game theory helps us understand oligopoly and other situations where players interact and behave strategically. The simplest case the game is a game between two players with two possible outcomes and simultaneous moves, called prisoner s dilemma . The essence of the game is as follows: Police caught two criminals accused of committing a crime, and conducts the questioning of each of them in different rooms. Criminals do not have the ability to communicate. The police want to be recognized for each of the perpetrators of a crime. Each of the criminals has two options indications: to confess to a crime or not to confess. If both the perpetrator confessed to the crime, then each receives 2 years in prison. • 9. The And The Sacrifice Of Isaac By Peter Paul A painting is a scene, frozen in time. Artists can bring them to life. Catching the emotions of whatever is depicted. The bible is full of memorable scenes, with thousands of years of art to capture the intensity of the stories. My Journey to The Sacrifice of Isaac by Peter Paul Rubens begin when I saw a painting at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art almost six years ago in a grand room, with tens of other paintings and high, echoing ceilings. I stood in front of a massive, Renaissance era piece. Without looking at the title or artist s statement, I knew it was of Abraham sacrificing Isaac. It had the iconic look of one of the most infamous stories from the bible. And when I remembered that painting, years later, I knew that would be the focus of this paper. So, with my painting in mind, I went to KSU online Hale Library ARTstor Abraham and Isaac . But there were too many paintings. And the majority of them looked the same. After clicking through about a dozen paintings from the Louvre, of Rembrandt and Domenichino and not finding the specific painting from my memory, I went to the Nelson Atkins website and then cross referenced with the list ARTstor was offering. The painting was Peter Paul Rubens The Sacrifice of Isaac and I can say, details get lost in memory. The painting, for the most part, kept with the scripture. Considering the scripture was bare bones when it came to description, that wasn t an impossible feat. The binding of Isaac was similar in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Do studies of neurological disorders support the claim that specific language functions are associated with distinct neural structures? Student ID: 12926466 Studying language in terms of its localization of function has proven to be a challenging task. Unlike other cognitive processes such as perception, attention and memory, language research faces the constraint of studying merely human beings. Even though other types of mammals and birds also develop some form of communication systems their complexity is not even close to that of the human language. Facing these limitation, early researches that have embarked on the task to clarify the neural mechanisms associated with language devised a study field called Neurolinguistics. ... Pierre Paul Broca was one of the earliest and most influential physicians and anatomists of his time, who in the 1860s conducted some of the first work on the effects of brain damage on behaviour (Harley, 2008). In 1861 Broca worked as a surgeon in BicГЄtre general infirmary, where on 11th April, a 50 year old patient called Leborgne was transported from the main hospital of BicГЄtre, suffering from diffuse gangrenous inflammation of the entire right inferior limb (Broca, 1861). Effects of Concentration on Enzymatic Activity of Salivary Amylase Rose Cruz Arapahoe Community College The purpose of this lab was to see if there was a relationship in the amount of concentration of salivary amylase to the amount of time it took to break down starch. To determine if varying concentrations affected the reaction time of the breakdown of starch, we used 4 different dilutions of salivary amylase and used 2 controls (positive/negative). Amylase is an enzyme responsible for breaking down starch into sugars. It is hypothesized that a lower concentration of amylase would cause the breakdown of starch to take a longer period of time or a slower reaction rate as opposed to a higher concentration of amylase. The results of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the concentration of the reactant (substrate) changes and is increased while the enzyme concentration stays the same, the higher the concentration, the lower the reaction rate will be for the enzyme to break down the increased amount of reactant (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity, n.d.). The same applies for if the concentration of enzyme changes and is increased while other factors stay the same. The higher the concentration of enzyme, the higher the reaction rate will be as the enzyme breaks down the reactant. In this experiment concentration affects the enzymatic activity increasing or decreasing the amount of concentration of amylase in a solution (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity, n.d.). If there is more concentration of enzyme there are more active sites available for a reaction to occur (Phenix, n.d.). To see the reaction and breakdown of starch we used Lugol s Iodine Reagent since it turns black in the presence of starch (Bauer and Norman, 2015, p. 92). We placed mixtures of the amylase and starch solutions in each of the wells containing Lugol s Iodine at 30 second intervals. Depending on what solution was used and how the amylase broke down the starch, the color change was noted over time. Due to the information about how concentration affects the reaction rate of an enzyme and substrate, we figured that a lower concentration of amylase would cause a slower reaction rate meaning that with a ... • 14. Vodka Memories of My Past I have come to the conclusion that the past, which is merciless and perilous, is a foreign country, and it cannot be altered. The past lives differently from the present, just as the future will live differently from the very moment you begin to breathe air. Yet somewhere in the back of my mind is this obsession. Whether this obsession has been drawn from the idea that my future will stay the same as this exact moment is speculation, which I shall ignore till the day I die. The other day I was looking at a ship, now in dreams ships can be glorious and beautiful or they can hold every shattered dream. You can watch them sail away with distain, or pleasure. It s been long told that if you see a ship in the distance, all of your dreams and aspirations sit staring back at you. But the ships already gone you can t chase those dreams as you can in the movies, when the girl runs after the train, praying that the man will see and get off. • 18. War Quotes From Things Fall Apart Justice The war was finally over. For months and years, battles had raged across our kingdom. They had ravaged the land, destroying homes and villages. People went hungry as fires devoured any crops that the enemy might be able to access. Fires still burned all across the kingdom, smouldering, but not yet extinguished. Some days, it seemed the sky itself was afire. People had to run from their homes, men hurried to join the fighting, and families were broken apart. Some had thought that the war would never end. Hopes were dashed as battles were fought with no clear victor. There was no reason to plant crops, to raise a family, or to hope. The war had taken almost everything we had. But it was over. We had defeated the rebel army and captured their commander. Then, he knelt before me. I stood over him with my sword drawn. It was my right, but more so, my duty, to bring my king his head, so all could see what happens to those who rebel. I paused, looking at him carefully. My mind spun with questions. How was it possible that one man s ambition could destroy an entire kingdom? Tear apart families? Condemn people to hardship? I suppose we should have known. Surprisingly though classical realism was not sensationalized in the international relations arena until World War II despite its existence in fifth century Athens. Many great philosophers such as Thucydides, Machiavelli and Hobbes developed the basics of classical realism and in 1948 Hans J. Every writer puts a different theme in their stories. Some themes relate to each other. However, there are some that are a bit different. A theme is the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person s thoughts, or an exhibition. In other words, the theme is considered the topic of the story. In this essay, I will talk about the themes in three of the stories this trimester. I will then compare each one of them to each other. Three of the stories that have been discussed this trimester are Death of Ivan Ilych, Metamorphosis, and Heart of Darkness. The Death of Ivan Ilych is about a man who has been ill for a very long time. He was a man who always worked and never had any time for his family. At the end of his life, he asked god and his family for salvation. He was able to be forgiven by his family, and he died knowing his family forgave him. Africa is responsible for mental disintegration as well as physical illness. The madness the result of power. Kurtz from the beginning is mad. The Importance Of City Elections In Canada This paper will examine municipal elections in British Columbia, taking Surrey and Vancouver as direct examples to show that a ward system would be a much more fair and democratic way to elect city councils. Municipal elections in these two cities currently take place in an at large system. The argument behind why this system is superior is that city councils have a more citywide approach to representation, as opposed to a regional one. Many political scientists have argued that a ward system, which splits cities into districts that are all represented by at least a single councillor, are a better way to hold more democratic and representative elections. The goal of ward systems is to make sure that all sections of a city are equally represented by at least a single councillor. Even though cities such as Vancouver have for some reason rejected it (as seen in 2004), it is a much more fair system to all citizens of a city. The at largesystem easily tends to favour wealthier communities in a city. When taking Vancouver as an example, the Berger Commission of 2004 found that [it] is generally accepted that the majority of city councillors have been from the West Side. As Rebecca Dhindsa puts it, the West Side is an area with higher incomes and less unemployment than Vancouver s East Side. This shows that councillors tend to run from wealthier segments of a city in at large systems. This can be because they may be more financially well off than the candidates from the underprivileged sections, which can affect campaign financing, or as the Berger Commission states, the richer and better educated have a greater chance of informing themselves on civic issues and participating in political affairs. The defence that this system is better for a council with a citywide focus is also largely false. Royce Koop and John Kraemer found that many councillors in at large municipalities still favour a certain area. When interviewing Councillor Bruce Hayne of Surrey, they were told this by him; I think everybody has some affinity to the geography of where they live. I live in Cloverdale so I ... It could not have been possible for the US to have developed in those exponential terms without acquiring land from the natives at almost no cost. What is the meaning of our lives? In the third century BC people saw their lives falling apart; they wanted a new meaning of religion. During this time the Temple was destroyed, which will be explained further on. The destruction of a significant religious figure such as the Temple causes people to question the purpose of religion, especially if it is going to fail them. Ecclesiastes suggests the extent to which theological systems are not just abstract ways of viewing the world; they answer the questions of life, responding to the issues real people face in real life situations. People began to realize that Ecclesiastes ideology truly was a logical explanation for the reason why they were placed in their current situation. The people also took Ecclesiastes definition of religion and applied it to their every day lives. The meaning of life is difficult to explain considering the time period. Ecclesiastes argues that wisdom cannot achieve its goal; that a remote God rules over a crooked world; and death did not take virtue or vice into consideration (Anchor Bible Dictionary p.275). Hence, Ecclesiastes advocated enjoyment as the wisest course of action during youth before the cares of advancing years made that response impossible (Anchor Bible Dictionary p.275). Ecclesiastes discovers that people s purpose in life as unknown. In life there is no final ultimate pronouncement, nothing is achieved and similarly human desires are left unsatisfied (Oxford Annotated Bible p.842). Ecclesiastes sees life as not changing and not being remembered. To achieve any sort of meaning of life, one must be wise: for in much wisdom is much vexation (Eccl. 1:18), being wise will create confusion to those who are not wise, leading towards understanding God s plan. People who are knowledgeable will be able to comprehend God s divine meaning; that meaning being to large to grasp by humans. However wisdom will not change one s fate in life. • 36. The Golden Age Of Heian Dorf Samantha Ms. Lee Global History 23 March 2015 The Golden Age of Heian Periods of time with peace and stability politically and religiously, paired with flourishing arts, are called Golden Ages . One thriving, revolutionizing time like this occurred in Heian, Japan from 794 to 1185 C.E., under the rule of the Fujiwara family. Succeeding the Nara period, many aspects of the Heian culture, such as Buddhism and the writing system, were borrowed from China. However, in this time, Japan took those preconceived ideas and really made them their own, adding many new ones along the way. The peace and stability, as well as influential literature greatly contributed to this period s golden legacy. Poetry during this time, most importantly Lady Murasaki s novel, Tale of Genji , reflected this time period and forever changed today s writing, making this era a truly prosperous golden age. This thriving golden age might have flourished, but it started out small, just like any other era. The Heian period began when the capital was moved from Nara to Heian, modern day Kyoto. Many noble families moved along with it (Charles). The Nara period had just ended, and aristocrats violently fought for power. Therefore, for the sake of peace, that s why the capital was moved. The Fujiwara family rose to power, and the golden age began. As Japan s second great period of Japanese culture arose, it brought many accomplishments with it (Fitzgerald). As exemplified by Table 2, due to such leniency net sales continued to increase between 1995 and 1997 (Appendix A). However, as illustrated by Table 1 the relaxed credit standards caused a 39% spike in accounts receivable from 1994 to 1995 (Appendix A). Consequently, the increase in inventory and accounts receivable negatively impacted the current ratio of the firm. As a result, the firm s liquidity dropped significantly below industry average in 1995 to 1.90 from 2.96, well above the 2.25 average, in 1994 (Appendix C). Therefore, the cash flow of the firm was negatively affected by the issuance of credit as accounts receivable continued to rise. By means of long term lending in 1994 and higher short term credit in 1994 and 1995, SDI chose to temporarily resolve the current issues of the firm without considering the potential long term ramifications. As illustrated in Table 1, long term loans remained the same while short term bank loans increased by 71% between 1994 and 1995; a drastic change within a short span of time (Appendix A). Researchers believe that several environmental and genetic factors work together and play a role in the development of Sirenomelia. The most popular medical theory suggests that Sirenomelia could be caused by abnormalities in the blood circulating system within the embryo at an early stage of development. Some affected individuals have been found to have a single large artery followed by the absence of the usual two arteries that branch out to lower areas and carry blood to the tail end of the embryo. The single artery that is present, which is referred to as a steal vessel due to the fact that it essentially steals blood and nutrients from the lower part of the body, diverts the flow of blood that normally circulates from the aorta to the lower portion of the embryo back up to the placenta instead so the blood and nutrients that are needed never end up reaching the tail end of the embryo. Due to the malnutrition from this lack of blood flow, the fetus fails to develop two separate limbs. (National Organization for Rare Disorders, 2018) There is still much to learn about what causes Sirenomelia since there is so little known about it currently. When experimenting with ... • 44. A Brief Look at Utilitarianism Utilitarianism is an attractive philosophy which claims to replace arbitrary seeming rules by a morality with a single coherent basis. As the most common form of consequentialism, based on the pursuit of the greatest happiness of the greatest number, it argues that acts should be judged as right or wrong according to their consequences. Because happiness is the only thing that is good in itself, and unhappiness is the only thing that is inherently bad, everything else is only good or bad according to its tendency to produce happiness or unhappiness. In a business type system, utilitarianismis also attractive as a means of decision making in which the majority must choose wisely. This type of decision making may have a positive effect on what action to take, but at the same time it might have a cost that would not be taken lightly by a business. From an engineer s and company s stand point, Utilitarianism would best fit, for the simple reason that it will satisfy everyone, because it is more of a general theory, with a large margin area of company and consumer satisfaction. Where other theories might be more specific to the situation, with utilitarianism almost all fits within the category. This may be a good thing for a company, but at the same time, one of the difficulties with the utilitarian standard is that it seems to sometimes favor the greater aggregate good at the expense of a vulnerable minority; the minority being the company s consumer (Rabins).
