This document discusses project management in the automotive industry. It begins with background information on projects and project management, as well as how the automotive sector uses lean principles and the PDCA (plan-do-check-act) cycle. It then outlines the four steps of project management: 1) planning by setting SMART targets and milestones, 2) implementation, 3) checking, and 4) acting to standardize processes and continuously improve. The overall methodology aims to help automotive companies successfully complete project objectives and stay competitive through structured project management.
PRINCE2 is a widely adopted project management methodology used primarily by the UK government. It is comprehensive but also verbose and bureaucratic. While expensive, it is tried and tested, internally consistent, and readily available without expensive training or support packages. Its disadvantages include lack of recognition outside of Europe, difficulty adopting its processes, and overhead that makes it unsuitable for small projects.
The document discusses risk management in Agile projects. It describes identifying risks at various stages like retrospectives and scrums. Risks are assessed based on probability and impact, and categorized. A risk board tracks risks. Risk is progressively reduced each iteration by addressing risks in user stories. The risk management process is repeated each iteration with review.

Six Sigma is a statistical methodology for improving business processes. It aims to reduce defects and variation in manufacturing and business processes. The goal of Six Sigma is to reduce defects to 3.4 defects per million opportunities. This can be measured using a metric called sigma, with 6 sigma representing a process operating with almost no defects. Key aspects of Six Sigma include defining critical customer requirements, using data and statistical analysis to determine sources of defects, implementing solutions to processes, and measuring their effectiveness.
The document discusses Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), a methodology for designing products and processes to meet customer needs and expectations from the beginning. DFSS aims to create designs that are efficient, high-quality, and robust. It recasts the DMAIC model into DMADV or I2DOV, emphasizing early design phases to predict and improve quality upfront. DFSS changes organizations from focusing only on functionality to incorporating statistical analysis of failure modes and risk assessment into design.
Lean Six Sigma is a methodology that combines Lean and Six Sigma approaches to process improvement. Lean focuses on speed and efficiency while Six Sigma aims for precision and reducing variation. Both arose in the 1980s, with Lean developing in auto manufacturing and Six Sigma in the semiconductor industry. Combining the two approaches allows organizations to address all types of process problems using the most appropriate tools. Lean Six Sigma seeks to achieve total customer satisfaction, remove waste, improve processes, and develop leaders to meet goals of better products delivered faster and at lower cost. It provides a common vision and language for organizations and promotes teamwork to continuously improve processes.
The document discusses how Lean Six Sigma methodology can help improve processes and reduce waste in the jewellery industry. It describes the seven types of waste as defined by Lean - transportation, inventory, motion, waiting, overproduction, overprocessing, and defects. Implementing Lean Six Sigma in the jewellery industry could lead to benefits like reduced costs, improved productivity and quality, increased output, and better adherence to delivery schedules. The jewellery business owner could see reduced operations costs by 30% annually while scaling up operations and increased annual sales revenue by 25% with less investment.

Six Sigma is a data-driven approach to process improvement originally developed by Motorola. It aims to reduce defects to 3.4 defects per million opportunities. There are two main methods - DMAIC which improves existing processes and DMADV which designs new processes. Key roles include Champions, Master Black Belts, Black Belts and Green Belts who lead projects. Statistical tools like control charts are used to analyze processes, identify issues, and implement solutions to reduce variations and defects. Widespread adoption of Six Sigma has helped many companies significantly cut costs and improve quality, including Motorola who saved over $17 billion from its Six Sigma program.
CMMI-SVC and CMMI-DEV differ significantly. CMMI-SVC has a wider scope that applies to most organizations beyond just IT. It introduces 7 new process areas focused on service delivery and systems. While engineering overlaps with service system development, CMMI-SVC contains additional material not covered by engineering. Work and work groups play the role of projects in development. There are also differences in common text between the two models. CMMI best practices should be tailored to each organization's context to provide value.
Basic overview six sigma, Six Sigma is a production philosophy that uses data, processes, and tools to nearly eliminate defects and bring performance close to perfection. Specifically, achieving Six Sigma means that no more than 3.4 defects occur per one million “opportunities” to create an acceptable output
Process Improvement in High Maturity Environments Improving the Efficiency ...Andre Ferreira
This document describes a software process improvement (SPI) initiative at Critical Software to improve the efficiency of code reviews. It discusses evaluating SPI success and identifies opportunities using CMMI frameworks. A hypothesis was that less effort reviewing code could reduce costs. A pilot of the Crucible review tool confirmed it reduced review time by 12x without affecting defect detection. Deployment across projects aims to validate cost savings and impact on quality of code. The document recommends establishing a governance model to reliably estimate ROI for SPI initiatives.
The document summarizes key findings from OpenSymmetry's 2013 Sales Performance and Technology Survey. Some of the main points covered in the summary include:
- Sales compensation plan design responsibility still primarily lies with sales operations teams.
- Sales compensation administration is managed either internally by sales operations or outsourced to third parties.
- Top challenges with administration include large numbers of manual adjustments, complex plans, and data issues.
- Effectiveness is mainly evaluated by comparing incentive payouts to budget and accuracy rates.
- Providing sales reports and analytics to participants faces challenges around data integration and system limitations.
Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing are two concepts that aim to improve processes through a common objective of industrial excellence. Both use the DMAIC methodology of Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control and focus on reducing variability and waste to improve quality, reduce costs and lead times. While Six Sigma focuses more on methodology and tools to reduce variability, Lean Manufacturing concentrates on eliminating non-value-add activities. The two approaches are complementary and both are needed to fully achieve process excellence.
Lessons learned about multiple model appraisals - How to get costs reduction Inigo Garro
Companies that had an appraisal experience in the past using CMMI-DEV as reference model, may have left out of the scope an important part of the company, related with services delivery. During a multiple model appraisal, additional business areas such as consultancy services, software maintenance or IT management services may also be included in the organizational scope, thus reducing the effort and cost of multiple appraisals.
This presentation, delivered by Caelum in the recent CMMI Portugal Conference, gives us some insight into issues to consider in a multimodel appraisal and how to save up to 42% of effort if we perform a multiple model SCAMPI appraisal instead of two separate single model appraisals.

This document discusses improving IT portfolio management through increased transparency. It describes initially assessing the current portfolio across dimensions of type, value, risk, quality, and cost. A roadmap is then developed to establish a 3-5 year strategy based on budget or business value goals. An operational plan identifies measures like keeping, improving, replacing, or phasing out assets. Visualizing the portfolio across the five dimensions can provide transparency to support decision-making. Leadership is required to implement changes aimed at removing low-value assets, reducing high risk and cost, and improving low quality.
This document summarizes the Portugal OPM3 Project. It establishes a scientific committee and international advisory panel for assessing organizational project management maturity in Portuguese industry. The first phase of the project involves conducting maturity assessments of participating organizations through meetings with managers and key staff. The goal is to analyze maturity, validate improvement plans, and help organizations better link projects to strategic objectives.
The document discusses using ISO 9001 as a foundation for implementing CMMI DEV. It presents an implementation strategy for ISO 9001 with ongoing internal audits and measurement of goals and metrics. ISO 9001 focuses on quality management systems while CMMI DEV provides best practices for product development. The strategy maps ISO 9001 concepts and CMMI maturity levels to provide a roadmap for implementing CMMI practices based on an existing ISO 9001 system.
