One of the key components of the Internet of Things (IoT) is the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). WSN is an effective and efficient technology. It consists of senor nodes; smart devices that allows data collection and pre-processing wirelessly from real world. However, issues related to power consumption and computational performance still persist in classical wireless nodes since power is not always available in application like pipeline monitoring. Moreover, they could not be usually suitable and adequate for this kind of application due to memory shortage and performance constraints. Designing new IoT WSN system that matches the application specific requirements is extremely important. In this paper, we present WiRoTip, a WSN node prototype for water pipeline application. Synchrophasor Applications Facilitating Interactions between Transmission and...Luigi Vanfretti
Distribution grid dynamics will become increasingly complex due to the transition from passive to active networks arising from the increase of renewable energy sources at medium and voltage level. A successful transition requires to increase the observability and awareness of the interactions between Transmission and Distribution (T&D) grids, particularly to guarantee adequate operational security.
This presentation explores how different technical means can facilitate interactions between TSOs and DSOs with the utilization of GPS-time-synchronized phasor measurements (aka Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs)) with millisecond resolution. If made available in actual T&D networks, such high-sampled data across operational boundaries allows an opportunity to extract information related to different time-scales.
As part of the work carried out in the EU-funded FP7 IDE4L project (http://ide4l.eu/), a specific use case, containing PMU-based monitoring functions, has been defined to support the architecture design of future distribution grid automation systems. As a result, the architecture can accommodate for key dynamic information extraction and exchange between DSO and TSO.
This presentation presents the use case and focuses on the technical aspects related to the development and implementation of the PMU-based monitoring functionalities that can provide means to facilitate technical co-operation between transmission and distribution operations.

Although conventional ultrasonic method is still widely used elsewhere, PAUT technique is applied increasingly for improving the ISI of utility, refinery and as well the emerging wind power in Taiwan. PAUT together with scanner is one of the major advantages to precede conventional UT by enhancing the defect characterization or inspection speed. In this study, special scanners were designed and employed with PAUT for the inspection of composite blades, bolts of wind turbine and anchor bolts of nuclear RPV skirt. Results showed that delamination of composite and fatigue crack of bolt may be detected and sized in more confidence and convenience for in-situ inspections. Moreover, PAUT was also used to characterize carefully the inner crack of pressure vessel for FFS assessment. Crack was found in safe margin and hence remained to operate. In conclusions, PAUT together with manipulator designed for specific purpose may facilitate the applications of PAUT technique widely in ISI of various industrial sectors.

Find out why PROFIBUS became the preferred water industry serial communications protocol …
Roger Marlow’s presentation starts by discussing the reasons for the initial implementation of intelligent Motor Control Centres (iMCCs) and serial communications networks in the water industry during AMP 3 and AMP 4 (2000-2010), highlighting why PROFIBUS became the preferred water industry serial communications protocol and what CAPEX savings and operational benefits were realised as a result of the implementation these technologies.
Moving forward in time, the presentation will highlight the varying extent to which different UK water utilities have embraced iMCCs/ PROFIBUS networks during the past decade and discuss the reasons for these variations. The presentation will provide examples of recent (AMP 5 (2010-2015)) projects utilising iMCCs/ PROFIBUS networks and provide details of future (AMP 6 (2015-2020)) projects using these technologies.
The presentation will conclude by describing how the increased use of iMCCs/serial comms networks in the water industry necessitated the development and management of a common specification for the design and installation of PROFIBUS networks in the UK water industry (WIMES 3.02(A)) and how this specification fits into a suite of over 70 common mechanical and electrical specifications managed by the Pump Centre for the UK water industry.

Good quality PROFIBUS and PROFINET training has been widely available for installers, maintenance technicians and engineers for many years. Unfortunately, key decision makers – managers, system designers and system integrators are quite often less well trained than others who are involved in the engineering. Many of the mistakes that can be seen in installations are traceable to fundamental design decisions that were taken at the early stages of the project.
This presentation explores the key considerations in PROFIBUS and PROFINET system design. Aspects such as system performance and maintainability of different designs and layouts are examined together with overall project costs. The presentation will also try to shed some light on the often asked question should I use PROFIBUS or PROFINET?
Finally, an overview will be presented of proposed PROFIBUS and PROFINET System Design courses.
Essential quality criteria for planning and validation of PROFINET networks
For PROFINET devices the quality criteria that are checked within the scope of the device certification are described in published specifications, standards and test specifications. Interoperability is protected by both the specification and the test procedures in the cooperation of the devices. From practical experience in the realization of network arrangements it appears that beside the device qualities also the planning quality and the quality of the validation of a whole arrangement can have an influence on the functionality.
In the task force CB / PG3 "Installation Guidelines" the suitable planning directives and introduction directives are now integrated into the quality criteria for the planning and validation of the PROFINET networks. The methods, measuring procedures and also the background will be fully explained.

Facilities for health checking and fault finding on PROFIBUS
systems are essential.
Access points must be provided on every segment of every
network. (Piggy-back sockets).
Tools and accompanying training are essential.
Network layout should allow devices to be replaced without
shutting down the network or disturbing other devices on the
network.
Replacement of devices should, if possible, not require reconfiguration of the system.
Health checking should be carried out at regular intervals to
detect degradation of performance, deteriorating
communications and developing problems.
Most system designers and project managers look at the
project procurement, installation and deployment costs when
they price a project.
However, the costs of an automation system spread over the
life cycle of the plant and should include maintenance, faultfinding
and health-checking.
Perhaps most important is the cost in terms of loss of
production should faults develop during the lifetime of the
plant. Spending a little more at procurement time can repay
many times over.
Good fault tolerant design need not be more expensive.
Sometimes fault tolerance can be achieved with just a little
thought at no additional cost.

Abstract
In this paper we present the results of implementation of a remote control system based on ProFiBus technologies used for the remote control of experimental nuclear physics apparata. Remote control makes experiment handling more flexible, eliminating any problems originating from the need for direct access to the systems being controlled. In the paper we describe two different applications. The first application of the ProFiBus is the remote control of a multidetector (made up of a bidimensional array of CsI scintillators) used to detect light nuclear particles, as protons and/or light ions. In the second application, we present an implementation of the control of a vacuum system suitable for a special chamber used for the development and testing of particle detectors operating in vacuum conditions.

This paper presents an electromagnetically-actuated micropump for microfluidic application. The system comprises two modules; an electromagnetic actuator module and a diffuser module. Fabrication of the diffuser module can be achieved using photolithography process with a master template and a PDMS prepolymer as the structural material. The actuator module consists of two power inductors and two NdFeB permanent magnets placed between the diffuser elements. The choice of this actuation principle merits from low operating voltage (1.5 Vdc) and the flow direction can be controlled by changing the orientation of the magnet vibration. Maximum volumetric flow rate of the fabricated device at zero backpressure is 0.9756 μLs-1 and 0.4659 μLs-1 at the hydrostatic backpressure of 10 mmH2O at 9 Hz of switching speed.
Mining Environment Harmful Gas Detection And Alarm System Using Kiel And Prot...ijceronline
The main idea behind this paper is to propose a system which can provide a safe environment for miners using wireless communication, alarming system . Sensors are employed within the helmets of the miners to detect the temperature and intensity of the harmful gas levels. If the temperature breaches the 40 degree Celsius mark or if the CO intensity level exceeds 120 ppm ,here both the values of temperature and CO concentration value is calibrated to the potentiometer used (200). If these values exceed 200 mark an alarming signal is set on ,which alerts the miners and also gives information about these values to the base station via RF transmitter . In this paper we are introducing the RF transmitter and receiver technology instead of using other means of communication
Weather monitoring plays a very important role in human life hence study of weather system is necessary.
Currently there are two types of the weather monitoring stations available i.e. wired and wireless. Wireless
system has some advantages over the wired one hence popular now a days. The parameters are include in
weather monitoring usually temperature, humidity atmospheric pressure, light intensity, rainfall etc. There are
many techniques existed using different processor such as PIC, AVR, ARM etc. Analog to digital channel are
used to fetch the analog output of the sensors. The wireless techniques used in the weather monitoring having
GSM, FM channel, Zigbee, RF etc Protocols.
This project seeks to design innovative tools to measure in vivo biomechanical parameters of joint prostheses, orthopaedic implants, bones and ligaments. These tools, partly implanted, partly external, will record and analyze relevant information in order to improve medical treatments. An implant module includes sensors in order to measure the forces, temperature sensors to measure the interface frictions, magneto-resistance sensors to measure the 3D orientation of the knee joint as well as accelerometers to measure stem micro-motion and impacts. An external module, fixed on the patient.s body segments, includes electronic components to power and to communicate with the implant, as well as a set of sensors for measurements that can be realized externally.
This equipment is designed to help the surgeon with the alignment or positioning phase during surgery. After surgery, by providing excessive wear and micro-motion information about the prosthesis, it will allow to detect any early migration and potentially avoid later failure. During rehabilitation, it will provide useful outcomes to evaluate in vivo joint function. The tools provided can also be implanted during any joint surgery in order to give the physician the information needed to diagnose future disease such as ligament insufficiency, osteoarthritis or prevent further accident. The proposed nanosystems are set to improve the efficiency of healthcare, which is both a benefit to the patient and to society. Although the scientific and technical developments proposed in this project can be applied to all orthopaedic implants, the technological platform which is being built as a demonstrator is limited to the case of knee prosthesis. In addition, by reaching the minimum size achievable thanks to clever packaging techniques and also by reducing, or even removing, the cumbersome battery, it paves the way for a new generation of autonomous implantable medical devices.
it has a small description about how wireless sensor system network can be applied in various field. A application of leaksge detection is discussed in detail.

A brief information about the SCOP protein database used in bioinformatics.
The Structural Classification of Proteins (SCOP) database is a comprehensive and authoritative resource for the structural and evolutionary relationships of proteins. It provides a detailed and curated classification of protein structures, grouping them into families, superfamilies, and folds based on their structural and sequence similarities.
Introduction:
RNA interference (RNAi) or Post-Transcriptional Gene Silencing (PTGS) is an important biological process for modulating eukaryotic gene expression.
It is highly conserved process of posttranscriptional gene silencing by which double stranded RNA (dsRNA) causes sequence-specific degradation of mRNA sequences.
dsRNA-induced gene silencing (RNAi) is reported in a wide range of eukaryotes ranging from worms, insects, mammals and plants.
This process mediates resistance to both endogenous parasitic and exogenous pathogenic nucleic acids, and regulates the expression of protein-coding genes.
What are small ncRNAs?
micro RNA (miRNA)
short interfering RNA (siRNA)
Properties of small non-coding RNA:
Involved in silencing mRNA transcripts.
Called “small” because they are usually only about 21-24 nucleotides long.
Synthesized by first cutting up longer precursor sequences (like the 61nt one that Lee discovered).
Silence an mRNA by base pairing with some sequence on the mRNA.
Discovery of siRNA?
The first small RNA:
In 1993 Rosalind Lee (Victor Ambros lab) was studying a non- coding gene in C. elegans, lin-4, that was involved in silencing of another gene, lin-14, at the appropriate time in the
development of the worm C. elegans.
Two small transcripts of lin-4 (22nt and 61nt) were found to be complementary to a sequence in the 3' UTR of lin-14.
Because lin-4 encoded no protein, she deduced that it must be these transcripts that are causing the silencing by RNA-RNA interactions.
Types of RNAi ( non coding RNA)
MiRNA
Length (23-25 nt)
Trans acting
Binds with target MRNA in mismatch
Translation inhibition
Si RNA
Length 21 nt.
Cis acting
Bind with target Mrna in perfect complementary sequence
Piwi-RNA
Length ; 25 to 36 nt.
Expressed in Germ Cells
Regulates trnasposomes activity
MECHANISM OF RNAI:
First the double-stranded RNA teams up with a protein complex named Dicer, which cuts the long RNA into short pieces.
Then another protein complex called RISC (RNA-induced silencing complex) discards one of the two RNA strands.
The RISC-docked, single-stranded RNA then pairs with the homologous mRNA and destroys it.
THE RISC COMPLEX:
RISC is large(>500kD) RNA multi- protein Binding complex which triggers MRNA degradation in response to MRNA
Unwinding of double stranded Si RNA by ATP independent Helicase
Active component of RISC is Ago proteins( ENDONUCLEASE) which cleave target MRNA.
DICER: endonuclease (RNase Family III)
Argonaute: Central Component of the RNA-Induced Silencing Complex (RISC)
One strand of the dsRNA produced by Dicer is retained in the RISC complex in association with Argonaute
ARGONAUTE PROTEIN :
1.PAZ(PIWI/Argonaute/ Zwille)- Recognition of target MRNA
2.PIWI (p-element induced wimpy Testis)- breaks Phosphodiester bond of mRNA.)RNAse H activity.
MiRNA:
The Double-stranded RNAs are naturally produced in eukaryotic cells during development, and they have a key role in regulating gene expression .
Observation of Io’s Resurfacing via Plume Deposition Using Ground-based Adapt...Sérgio Sacani
Since volcanic activity was first discovered on Io from Voyager images in 1979, changes
on Io’s surface have been monitored from both spacecraft and ground-based telescopes.
Here, we present the highest spatial resolution images of Io ever obtained from a groundbased telescope. These images, acquired by the SHARK-VIS instrument on the Large
Binocular Telescope, show evidence of a major resurfacing event on Io’s trailing hemisphere. When compared to the most recent spacecraft images, the SHARK-VIS images
show that a plume deposit from a powerful eruption at Pillan Patera has covered part
of the long-lived Pele plume deposit. Although this type of resurfacing event may be common on Io, few have been detected due to the rarity of spacecraft visits and the previously low spatial resolution available from Earth-based telescopes. The SHARK-VIS instrument ushers in a new era of high resolution imaging of Io’s surface using adaptive
optics at visible wavelengths.

Introduction
Remote control system based on
ProFiBus technologies used for the
remote control of experimental nuclear
physics apparata.
Two different applications :
Remote control of a multidetector (made up of
a bidimensional array of CsI scintillators)
used to detect light nuclear particles, as
protons and/or light ions.
An implementation of the control of a vacuum
system suitable for a special chamber used
for the development and testing of particle
detectors operating in vacuum conditions.
3. Ing. Cristian Randieri
New techniques and methodologies used
in process control: problematics
The demand for distributed process control
involves intelligent systems, control devices
and measurement systems able to
communicate through the network.
It means -> reduction in connections, thus simplifying
system management and decreasing maintenance
problems.
A new solution is provided by FieldBuses systems which
are widely applied in experimental research in nuclear
physics.
4. Ing. Cristian Randieri
Experimental research in nuclear
physics: problematics
Distributed remote control apparatus capable of working in very hard
operating environment (strong electromagnetic fields, damage by
radioactive particles, low temperatures etc.);
At the same time meeting the necessary safety, reliability and
simplicity requirements;
Large number of devices;
Many devices must be controlled locally and this requires frequent
access to the site of the experiments (not safe environments).
The use of a FieldBus is a valid solution since it provides tools for implementing
a remote control system;
The ProFiBus (Process FieldBus) is a communication system widely used in the
world of industry and is highly suitable for this aim.

REMOTE CONTROL IN NUCLEAR
PHYSICS
EXPERIMENTS
The types of information present in nuclear physics
experiments if often complex and generally fall into two
different categories of data:
plant supervision and control data. It allows operators to
introduce system modifications without the need to remain in the
measuring area. dynamic is relatively modest, therefore it can be
handled via remote control by using distributed systems ;
data obtained via measurements carried out during
the experiment itself. The signals are usually obtained at an
aleatory frequency and have a very short duration (not suitable
to be transferred via Bus-Based communication systems ).
6. Ing. Cristian Randieri
The experimental setup
Is a system designed to study heavy ion reactions, disposed in the
“Neutron Hall”.
This structure is managed by the C.H.I.C.(Collaboration for Heavy Ion
Collisions) research group and is located at the Laboratori Nazionali
del Sud in Catania, property of the I.N.F.N.(Istituto Nazionale di Fisica
Nucleare).
The laboratory comprises a series of airtight chambers, with
observation windows, in which nuclear interferometry experiments
are carried out.
A beam of intermediate energy heavy ions ( 10-50 MeV/A) is
deflected in the vacuum and conveyed towards the reaction chamber
by means of magnetic bending.
The beam impinges on nuclear targets and the collision products are
recorded by various detectors and the data are acquired and
analyzed by human operators for off-line handling.
8. Ing. Cristian Randieri
Observations
Currently most of the support equipment is
activated manually and located close to the
structure;
During each experiment the presence of
radiation that is harmful for both humans and the
electronic instrumentation requires the
experimental cave to be put under safety
control;
All connections between the cave and the
acquisition rooms are dedicated point-to-point
connections (potential radiation leakage point ).
9. Ing. Cristian Randieri
Key points in the setup where the traditional solution
introduced a number of problems and prolonged
measurement times:
The support system for a multidetector apparatus
comprising 13 CsI light ion detectors, which has to be
moved during the various phases of the experiment in order to
stay at the different best position both in the calibration and data
taking runs.
The vacuum chamber, which is an essential component of
the research since the beam of particles has to move in the
vacuum, and heavy ion products are degrading their energy in
air.
10. Ing. Cristian Randieri
Main advantages introduced by a
fieldbus system in the experiments
Savings in cabling and installation costs ;
Easy addition or removal of system devices without the need
for new cables for additional devices;
A reduction in the number of connections for devices mounted
on mobile parts;
A saving in cable weight;
A reduction in installation errors;
A reduction in documentation costs;
11. Ing. Cristian Randieri
FieldBuses present typical features that have been
optimized for the specific field of application
FieldBus also provides one-to-many (multicast) or one-to-all
(broadcast) connections according to the type of
information being handled.
A FieldBus makes it possible to synchronize activities
carried out by physically distinct devices connected via the
Bus;
A FieldBus has to guarantee data quality;
A FieldBus can operate in particularly difficult climatic,
electromagnetic and radiation damage conditions.

THE MOTION CONTROL
APPLICATION
Remote control of a movement
system with three degrees of
freedom for the micrometric
positioning of a multidetector
includinging 13 CsI light ion
detectors.
Each track is activated by a
brushless electric motor with a
pulse encoder and a gear
reduction unit;
At the end of each track there are
limit switches to detect the
maximum stroke.
13. Ing. Cristian Randieri
Dedicated control system
It comprises a backplane on which 3 control boards are
mounted, each using a specialized chip (HP HCTL-1100)
for the control of brushless or stepping motors.
The backplane interface provides 3 8-bit ports: port A , which
is two-way, is dedicated to the exchange of data from and to
the control chip registers, port B , an input port, is used to read
the limit switch , and finally port C , the output port, is used to
address the chips and generate synchronization signals.
14. Ing. Cristian Randieri
Graphic interface
The central part of the interface
provides a realtime vision of the
status of the moving platform.
The position and values of the
three Cartesian axes are visible.
The lower part of the interface
provides some commands for
the control of the platform
according to three degree of
freedom.

Conclusion
In this paper we presented the results obtained
through the use of the Fieldbus Technology in
Nuclear Physics research.
In particular we have studied how to integrate
distributed control systems through the Profibus
for two specific applications:
The remote control of a complex detector (made up of a dimensional array
of detectors) used to detect flows of light ions. This system must be moved
in real time, with very high precision in three different directions, requiring
the control of three electrical motors that move the detectors.
An implementation of the control of a vacuum system suitable for a
suitable chamber used for the development and testing of particle
detectors.

Future Developements
Improve the network speed (the data rate of Profibus can
be increased up to 12 Mbps) and in this way a wider
bandwidth is available, in order to accommodate a larger
number of devices.
Make an interface between this system and the local
Ethernet networks in way to share the application panel.
Introduce a Fieldbus camera systems that is able to
capture images from the acquisition room.
