The majority of the people
I asked were in our target
audience age group. This
meant that we could get
an insight into what our
target audience thought.
As our target audience is
teenagers, we decided to
ask them for the majority.
This was the opening
question that we needed
to ask to gain an insight
into who was answering
our questionnaire.

We wanted to ask what
ethnicity the people we
were asking was. I made
the different categories and
then asked the audience to
respond. I did not want to
gain responses from just
one particular ethnic group
as it would not be a
particularly fair
representation of our target
audience. From this table,
we can see that we tried to
get a good range of people
from different backgrounds,
but did not get any people
from the
black/African/caribbean/bl
ack british background. If I
were to do this again, I
would try to include every
background.

Did you like the length
of the trailer?
Yes
No
From this question, the responses that I
got have shown me that everybody I
asked liked the length of the trailer. This
means the length that we chose was
successful as it was neither too long or
too short, we could also see from the
results that the audience may not have
liked the trailer or watched the
documentary if the radio trailer was too
long.

From this question, we could
see that majority of the
audience thought that our
radio trailer had interesting
and relevant points. If they
were not relevant then the
radio trailer would not be
successful. However, three
respondents said that they
agreed with the statement,
this means that more audio
clips from the documentary,
from vox pops and interviews
like the ones we had already
used. Nobody disagreed with
the statement or replied with
‘don’t know’ and therefore
was successful in that sense.

Did you enjoy our radio trailer?
Yes
No
Everybody I asked replied
with the response yes to
whether they enjoyed the
radio trailer or not, this
helps us to understand
whether the audience would
choose to continue listening
to our radio trailer if it was
to come up on the radio as
an advertisement. I take
this to mean that our radio
trailer was a success. The
enjoyment of the trailer
determines whether they
are likely to watch the
documentary after, so to
having the audience enjoy
our radio trailer is a big
bonus.

How did you find the use of
music?
Excellent

Poor
The music that we used in our
documentary was the beat
that we used for our
documentary also. We can see
that majority of our audience
thought the use of music was
good. This tells us that maybe
we could have used a
different beat or that we
could have incorporated
another music beat into it to
make it better. However, 4
people did vote it as
excellent, which is a good
sign. The use of music is
important because it is one of
the reasons that makes the
radio trailer intriguing to
listen to.

This is the whole reason for the
radio trailer and this would
determine the whole success.
50% said they strongly agreed
with the statement what they
would watch the documentary
after listening to the radio
trailer. The other 50% said that
they would agree with the
statement. This suggests that
our radio trailer was very
appealing, and people would
be definitely inclined to watch
it and the other would like to
watch it. This suggests that our
radio trailer was good in the
aspect of creating a buzz
around the topic so much that
people want to watch the
documentary. This may also
lead to them telling other
people to watch it also which
is better promotion.
100%

Does the music suit the tone of
the documentary?
Yes
No
Everybody we asked
said that the music did
suit the tone of the
documentary. This is a
vital part which helps us
to maintain the
seriousness of the
documentary as we are
talking about serious
issues. If we had happy
and jolly music it would
be inappropriate. The
music is right for the
radio trailer and this
means that if the
audience would watch
the documentary, they
would gain familiarity
between the two
products.

What was your opinion of the
pace of the narrator?
Very good
Good
Satisfactory
Poor
The pace of the narrator
determines how clear the
documentary is. 100% of
our audience voted very
good, for the pace of our
narrator. This is good as it
shows that it is clear to
understand, meaning we
could get our points across
and the audience would
know what we were saying.
The use of the narrator is
also the same as our
documentary and as our
audience liked the pace of
our narrator, this would
make it more appealing to
watch the actual
documentary.

What age group do you think our
radio trailer is aimed at and
why?
Children
Teenagers
Middle aged
adults
Elderly people
This question I have included as it
helps us to know who who our
target audience think that our
documentary is aimed at, this
would help us to know if we have
represented our target audience
correctly and fairly. One person
said that our target audience
would be middle aged adults and
then went on to say that they
chose this because they thought it
would be helpful to parent and
teachers. Majority of people (9)
said they thought the target
audience is teenagers. From these
results we can see that the correct
results were given as we are
aiming our documentary and
trailer at teenagers. This answer
was given as it would have been
obvious, so it would appeal to
teenagers themselves or someone
may recommend the documentary
to a teenager they know.
And why?
The answers we received were that one person thought that the trailer was aimed at
teenagers because the radio trailer says ‘teenagers’ in it which is a hint, but not
necessarily obvious. Another person said that the trailer discusses the issues that affect
teenagers and things that teenagers relate to. The answer that this person gave shows us
that we have portrayed the target audience correctly. This was also the same answer that
was given for another response and included that parents or teachers may watch it if they
were concerned about a teenager they knew. This was our desired effect as then parents
and teachers can help teenagers. This response was also the same for the next answer we
were given. One response, the person who chose middle aged adults as who the
documentary is aimed at, said that it would be for parents and adults who are around
teenagers that this might affect, like another response that I got. One unique response I
got was that the music sounds like it is for a younger audience, but has a formal
presenting style so it works by juxtaposing. In comparison, I got another response said
that the issues we talked about in the trailer were ones that affected teenagers so this
indicates the ideal audience. ‘Channel 4 does teenage documentaries’ was an answer that
we got and this was interesting that somebody recognised that similar documentaries are
going on the same channel. Alternatively, we got a response that the narrator sounds like
a teenager, this is interesting as it is something that nobody else has said and this is an
indication who made the documentary and that the makers would do something that they
knew about. Lastly, we gained the answer that most teenagers deal with mental health
issues. The fact that we included statistics about anxiety and depression, these might be
associated with teenagers.
For this question, we wanted to
know whether we had the sound
levels correct on all our audio
clips. This would then mean it
was clear and easy to hear. Our
responses were that most
people thought that our radio
trailer was clear and easy to
hear, this is good as it means
that all the information could
be understood. 20% of people
said other and then responded
with saying some parts were a
little quiet and the other person
said the voice was a bit loud.
This means that perhaps some
ways I showed the radio trailer
to give feedback, might have
made it different. For example,
when I showed them on the
computer, it may have sounded
different to on my phone.

Is it clear what our
documentary is about and
when you can tune in to watch
it?
Yes
No
Don't know
Most people that I asked said
that it was clear when the
documentary was coming on
television, this would mean
they would know when to
watch it and also what
channel. The channel we
included because it meant
that the audience could
catch up on that channel’s on
demand service if they
couldn’t watch it. However
one person said that they
didn’t know, this may have
been if they forgot when it
came to filling out the
questionnaire. We could have
mentioned it at the beginning
and end of the trailer. But
most people knew when they
could watch it.
100%
0%0%
Were you able to gain an
understanding of what the
documentary entails?
Yes
No
Don't know
Knowing what the
documentary entails is a key
reason why someone would
tune in to watch it. This
could mean that they would
then be able to see
interviews that are coming
up and interviews with
members of the public. The
audience would know what
to expect if they chose to
watch the documentary
which is good as they can
decide whether to watch it
or not. We had no ‘no’
responses and that means
we have successfully
portrayed what the
documentary entails.
What ways could we improve our radio trailer?
The responses we got for this would help us if we were to do a radio trailer
again, perhaps for something different. 4 responses were that they could not
think of anything to write or there were no improvements could be made. One
response was to show the deeper risks of mental health, this is something we
tried to do by including statistics related to mental health issues. If we had
more time to do a radio trailer or had a bigger advertisement slot, we could
have talked about that more. Another reply was not to speak too fast, this
however slightly contradicts the questionnaire answers about the pace of the
narrator. However, we didn’t want to make our radio trailer too long that
people may lose interest so it was better that we narrated the trailer slightly
fast paced. Moreover, another response was to speak louder, and this we would
have to take into mind if we were doing this again. Another answer we got was
to remove the small gaps in between when the narrator stops speaking and
when the audio clips begin. We did this to allow the audience to comprehend
what was said and allow a gap for the music beat to be heard. This is a
difference of opinion but we would take this into account for the next time we
happen to do this. Additionally, more vox pops was something that was
suggested, this is something we considered but again did not want to make it
too long, we will bear what the audience want in mind. Somebody said that
they didn’t have anything that we could do to improve so this question was not
applicable, they said the sound levels were good and it was enjoyable to listen
to. Overall I think our radio trailer was a success.

  • 2. The majority of the people I asked were in our target audience age group. This meant that we could get an insight into what our target audience thought. As our target audience is teenagers, we decided to ask them for the majority. This was the opening question that we needed to ask to gain an insight into who was answering our questionnaire. 11% 45% 44% What age group are you? 12-14 years old 15-17 years old 18-21 years old
  • 3. 40% 40% 0% 20% 0% What ethnicity are you? White British British Asian Black/African /Caribbean/Bl ack British Mixed Race Other We wanted to ask what ethnicity the people we were asking was. I made the different categories and then asked the audience to respond. I did not want to gain responses from just one particular ethnic group as it would not be a particularly fair representation of our target audience. From this table, we can see that we tried to get a good range of people from different backgrounds, but did not get any people from the black/African/caribbean/bl ack british background. If I were to do this again, I would try to include every background.
  • 4. 100% 0% Did you like the length of the trailer? Yes No From this question, the responses that I got have shown me that everybody I asked liked the length of the trailer. This means the length that we chose was successful as it was neither too long or too short, we could also see from the results that the audience may not have liked the trailer or watched the documentary if the radio trailer was too long.
  • 5. 70% 30% 0% 0% 0% How far would you agree with the statement: The audio clips used from the documentary are interesting and relevant. Strongly Agree Agree Don't know Disagree Strongly Disagree From this question, we could see that majority of the audience thought that our radio trailer had interesting and relevant points. If they were not relevant then the radio trailer would not be successful. However, three respondents said that they agreed with the statement, this means that more audio clips from the documentary, from vox pops and interviews like the ones we had already used. Nobody disagreed with the statement or replied with ‘don’t know’ and therefore was successful in that sense.
  • 6. 100% 0% Did you enjoy our radio trailer? Yes No Everybody I asked replied with the response yes to whether they enjoyed the radio trailer or not, this helps us to understand whether the audience would choose to continue listening to our radio trailer if it was to come up on the radio as an advertisement. I take this to mean that our radio trailer was a success. The enjoyment of the trailer determines whether they are likely to watch the documentary after, so to having the audience enjoy our radio trailer is a big bonus.
  • 7. 40% 60% 0% 0% How did you find the use of music? Excellent Good Average Poor The music that we used in our documentary was the beat that we used for our documentary also. We can see that majority of our audience thought the use of music was good. This tells us that maybe we could have used a different beat or that we could have incorporated another music beat into it to make it better. However, 4 people did vote it as excellent, which is a good sign. The use of music is important because it is one of the reasons that makes the radio trailer intriguing to listen to.
  • 8. 50%50% 0% 0% 0% How far do you agree with this statement? I would watch the documentary after listening to the radio trailer. Strongly Agree Agree Neutral Disagree Strongly Disagree This is the whole reason for the radio trailer and this would determine the whole success. 50% said they strongly agreed with the statement what they would watch the documentary after listening to the radio trailer. The other 50% said that they would agree with the statement. This suggests that our radio trailer was very appealing, and people would be definitely inclined to watch it and the other would like to watch it. This suggests that our radio trailer was good in the aspect of creating a buzz around the topic so much that people want to watch the documentary. This may also lead to them telling other people to watch it also which is better promotion.
  • 9. 100% 0% Does the music suit the tone of the documentary? Yes No Everybody we asked said that the music did suit the tone of the documentary. This is a vital part which helps us to maintain the seriousness of the documentary as we are talking about serious issues. If we had happy and jolly music it would be inappropriate. The music is right for the radio trailer and this means that if the audience would watch the documentary, they would gain familiarity between the two products.
  • 10. 100% 0%0%0% What was your opinion of the pace of the narrator? Very good Good Satisfactory Poor The pace of the narrator determines how clear the documentary is. 100% of our audience voted very good, for the pace of our narrator. This is good as it shows that it is clear to understand, meaning we could get our points across and the audience would know what we were saying. The use of the narrator is also the same as our documentary and as our audience liked the pace of our narrator, this would make it more appealing to watch the actual documentary.
  • 11. 0% 90% 10% 0% What age group do you think our radio trailer is aimed at and why? Children Teenagers Middle aged adults Elderly people This question I have included as it helps us to know who who our target audience think that our documentary is aimed at, this would help us to know if we have represented our target audience correctly and fairly. One person said that our target audience would be middle aged adults and then went on to say that they chose this because they thought it would be helpful to parent and teachers. Majority of people (9) said they thought the target audience is teenagers. From these results we can see that the correct results were given as we are aiming our documentary and trailer at teenagers. This answer was given as it would have been obvious, so it would appeal to teenagers themselves or someone may recommend the documentary to a teenager they know.
  • 12. And why? The answers we received were that one person thought that the trailer was aimed at teenagers because the radio trailer says ‘teenagers’ in it which is a hint, but not necessarily obvious. Another person said that the trailer discusses the issues that affect teenagers and things that teenagers relate to. The answer that this person gave shows us that we have portrayed the target audience correctly. This was also the same answer that was given for another response and included that parents or teachers may watch it if they were concerned about a teenager they knew. This was our desired effect as then parents and teachers can help teenagers. This response was also the same for the next answer we were given. One response, the person who chose middle aged adults as who the documentary is aimed at, said that it would be for parents and adults who are around teenagers that this might affect, like another response that I got. One unique response I got was that the music sounds like it is for a younger audience, but has a formal presenting style so it works by juxtaposing. In comparison, I got another response said that the issues we talked about in the trailer were ones that affected teenagers so this indicates the ideal audience. ‘Channel 4 does teenage documentaries’ was an answer that we got and this was interesting that somebody recognised that similar documentaries are going on the same channel. Alternatively, we got a response that the narrator sounds like a teenager, this is interesting as it is something that nobody else has said and this is an indication who made the documentary and that the makers would do something that they knew about. Lastly, we gained the answer that most teenagers deal with mental health issues. The fact that we included statistics about anxiety and depression, these might be associated with teenagers.
  • 13. For this question, we wanted to know whether we had the sound levels correct on all our audio clips. This would then mean it was clear and easy to hear. Our responses were that most people thought that our radio trailer was clear and easy to hear, this is good as it means that all the information could be understood. 20% of people said other and then responded with saying some parts were a little quiet and the other person said the voice was a bit loud. This means that perhaps some ways I showed the radio trailer to give feedback, might have made it different. For example, when I showed them on the computer, it may have sounded different to on my phone. 80% 0% 20% Were all sections of our radio trailer clear and easy to hear? Yes No Other
  • 14. 90% 0% 10% Is it clear what our documentary is about and when you can tune in to watch it? Yes No Don't know Most people that I asked said that it was clear when the documentary was coming on television, this would mean they would know when to watch it and also what channel. The channel we included because it meant that the audience could catch up on that channel’s on demand service if they couldn’t watch it. However one person said that they didn’t know, this may have been if they forgot when it came to filling out the questionnaire. We could have mentioned it at the beginning and end of the trailer. But most people knew when they could watch it.
  • 15. 100% 0%0% Were you able to gain an understanding of what the documentary entails? Yes No Don't know Knowing what the documentary entails is a key reason why someone would tune in to watch it. This could mean that they would then be able to see interviews that are coming up and interviews with members of the public. The audience would know what to expect if they chose to watch the documentary which is good as they can decide whether to watch it or not. We had no ‘no’ responses and that means we have successfully portrayed what the documentary entails.
  • 16. What ways could we improve our radio trailer? The responses we got for this would help us if we were to do a radio trailer again, perhaps for something different. 4 responses were that they could not think of anything to write or there were no improvements could be made. One response was to show the deeper risks of mental health, this is something we tried to do by including statistics related to mental health issues. If we had more time to do a radio trailer or had a bigger advertisement slot, we could have talked about that more. Another reply was not to speak too fast, this however slightly contradicts the questionnaire answers about the pace of the narrator. However, we didn’t want to make our radio trailer too long that people may lose interest so it was better that we narrated the trailer slightly fast paced. Moreover, another response was to speak louder, and this we would have to take into mind if we were doing this again. Another answer we got was to remove the small gaps in between when the narrator stops speaking and when the audio clips begin. We did this to allow the audience to comprehend what was said and allow a gap for the music beat to be heard. This is a difference of opinion but we would take this into account for the next time we happen to do this. Additionally, more vox pops was something that was suggested, this is something we considered but again did not want to make it too long, we will bear what the audience want in mind. Somebody said that they didn’t have anything that we could do to improve so this question was not applicable, they said the sound levels were good and it was enjoyable to listen to. Overall I think our radio trailer was a success.
