2. 1. What is your gender?
The number of responses that I received was equally male and female
– 5 each. This means that the answers equally represent both genders
and I will not have to cater to any specific gender when creating my
music video.
3. 2. What is your age range?
As expected, the vast majority of results came from people that are
around the same age as myself, also presumably students. However,
there is an abnormality in that a single person was between the 21 and
25 age range, meaning that I will also have to cater to a older
audience when planning my music video.
4. 3. What music genres do you
actively listen to?
I found that my audience listen to a
wide range of all the genres that I
stated, as well as others not listen, such
as hip-hop. It is also evident that the
most listened to genres are R’n’B,
electric/synth and dance, which is
helpful as electric/synth is one of the
areas that I am concentrating most on
for my music video.
5. 4. Out of the ones selected, which
would you consider your favourite?
As found with the previous results, electric/synth and dance yield the
highest amount of results for this question, which helps me greatly the
majority of my audience should like the genre of music that I have
chosen.
6. 5. Why do you watch music
videos?
Through this question I found that a majority of my audience only
watch music videos to either see the band/singer or don’t pay any
attention to the video at all, which can be problematic for my results
as they are answered by people uninterested in the music video
aspect. However the largest amount of my audience are still interested
in the entertainment aspect of my video, which could be a focus point
when planning my video.
7. 6. What pleases you most about
watching videos?
This question is also beneficial to me as a third of the results show that
my audience are interested in surrealism within music videos, which is
what I hope to focus on when filming my video. Out of the four pre-set
questions ‘artistic meaning’ scored the lowest, and I will probably
concentrate on this factor the least when filming my video.
8. 7. Would you consider yourself open-minded
when listening to new music genres?
The answers to this question show that the vast majority of my
audience are indeed open minded when it comes to listening to my
music. This means that it is less of a risk using lesser known genres of
music such as my video product.
9. 8.When watching music videos do you prefer them
to be performance based or narrative based?
These results helped me in deciding what style I would record my video
in, and is beneficial as the largest result is also the result I was planning
on going for in the beginning.
10. 9. Do you think that the context of a
music video should relate to the lyrics?
Surprisingly, this question received the most mixed results, with 2 yes,
three no and o in-between. Fortunately, this also means that the
audience prefers narratives that no not necessarily relate to the lyrics
of the song, which helps me greatly in the long run of this project.
11. 10. How familiar are you with the
band ‘Phoenix’?
This question does not generally help me in crafting my music video,
but instead helps me scope out how much of my audience know the
band I am using. Fortunately the majority of my audience have heard
of the band in some way, which in turn will make my song choice less
obscure.
