• If / when both "if" and "when" are used in the present real conditional.
• Using "if" suggests that something happens less frequently.
• Using "when" suggests that something happens regularly.
• Examples:
• when I have a day off from work, I usually go to the beach.
I regularly have days off from work.
• If I have a day off from work, I usually go to the beach.
I rarely have days off from work.
•-used to talk about what you would generally do in an
imaginary situations.
• [If…...simple past…., would + verb]
• [..would + verb …if.... Simple Past]
• If I owned a car, I would drive to work. But I don’t own a car.
• -She would travel around the world if she had more money. But
she doesn’t have much money.

•Only use “If”
•Only the word “if” is used with the present
unreal because you are discussing
imaginary situations.

Present Unreal Conditionals
1. Cherry would (go) ______________ to Japan if she (speak) __________ Japanese.
2. If they (work) ___________ harder, they would (earn) __________ more money.
3. Sheryl would (buy) __________ new clothes if she (have) __________her salary.
4. If Jannah (save) __________ money, she would (have) ___________ new things.
5. Mike would (read) __________ more if he (don’t) __________ watch TV.
Present Real Conditionals

Present Unreal Conditionals
1. Lisa would (sing) __________ a song if she (feel) _______ a strong emotion.

4. If I (have) _________ a superpower, I would (save) _______ the universe.

Divide the into 2 sets, Set A and B. Each set must also be divided into 2 groups,

  • 4. • -If I go to a friend’s house for dinner, I usually take a bottle of wine or some flowers. • -She walks to work if the weather is nice. • -When she has a day off from work, she usually goes to the beach. • -If Tristan has a day off from work, he usually goes to the beach.
  • 5. • If / when both "if" and "when" are used in the present real conditional. • Using "if" suggests that something happens less frequently. • Using "when" suggests that something happens regularly. • Examples: • when I have a day off from work, I usually go to the beach.
