The student's preliminary magazine cover task did not follow conventions in its use of images, masthead, coverlines, and layout. The photography lacked proper shot types and angles. The mise-en-scene was poor with dull costume and props. The fonts were plain and the colors were dull. Additionally, the mode of address was unclear. However, for the final magazine cover, the student's research and planning led to a more conventional design that followed industry standards. The images, fonts, colors, and overall presentation were improved to better attract the target female audience.

 My preliminary task was not conventional as the masthead and coverlines covered the
image, making it hard to see.Whereas, you can see on the right for my finished music
magazine there is barely any overlapping.The coverlines are surrounding the artist
as they should the student to portray them as significant.
 In addition another problem with the preliminary task is that the masthead is rather
plain.
 The masthead along with the main image is meant to be the most easily
recognised/seen thing on the cover as these two techniques are used to catch the
eye of the target audience.
 My final production is more conventional as a consequence of my research and
planning, which fundamentally gave me ideas and the conventions I must use.
 Unlike my preliminary task I thought about the shot types and angles more on my cover
to essentially suit and fit the genre.
 My images are now suited to; the genre of my magazine, the gender, and more broadly
the overall target audience.

 Like I said on my previous slide my preliminary task was
unconventional because my photography lacked specific shot
types /angles and rules such as ; the head space – meaning there
should not be too much or little space above a persons head in a
shot.
 My use of Mise-en-scene for my preliminary task is fairly poor, it
does include the correct costume (school uniform) and acceptable
props – paper and pencil.
 However, it is better in my finished magazine as the costume is classy
and stylish to attract the female audience , the artists makeup and
hair is up-to-date and appealing to the eye.The colour scheme of
her costume also highlights sophistication (dark and pale).

4. LayoutLayout
 In my preliminary task the layout was not
appealing it was muddled and distracts you from
the most important features of the cover.
 With additional knowledge now my final magazine
is complete and more conventional.The target
audience can also find this appealing.
 I have also put my masthead in the primary optical
area to appeal to my audience.

5. EditingEditing
 For my preliminary I didn’t actually edit the
image. Now however, I can successfully edit an
image on Photoshop which I did on the right
hand corner image. I used this to make my
cover more conventional. I also edited lighting
to create a sense of boldness/harshness but
innocence.

6. FontsFonts
 The fonts on the preliminary task are not
conventional, they are dull and plain.
 On the right the fonts are brighter and
bolder catching the eye. Also, the fonts
are easy to read which people love.

7. ColoursColours
 The preliminary task colours are intensely
dull compared to my final magazine.
 From my research I have gained a good
understanding on how to create a strong
colour scheme and match the genre. I have
also learned that certain colours can
represent artists specifically such as a black
and grey colour scheme. It can possible
convey an artist as struggling in the music
business.

8. Mode of AddressMode of Address
 The mode of address on my preliminary task is
very unclear to the audience.This is because I
didn’t initially know how to represent my
magazine to my target audience.
 Since then my knowledge has improved a lot as
now my finished magazine follows a conventional
mode of address with conventions such as a
friendly, chatty tone towards the readers.
 The colours used also create a classy neat
magazine.
