Eyelash Extensions
5 Things to Avoid After Applying Eyelas Extension In the world of make up Eyelash Extensions
are prevalent new items that extends and thickens the users own particular eyelashes. In its
utilization a single strands of engineered lash extensions are usually bended to recreate a bigger
and thicker eyelash. Going by the method, one has to connect every individual natural eyelash
with the artificial one, one by one for an attractive and lovely look. If you are one of those who
suffers from bad eyelas growth and craves for a beautiful and attractive eye, this is the time you

Detain from Rubbing Your Eyes Frequently Try not to rub your eyes as rubbing will abbreviate
the life of the glue used in the extention which may pull off your characteristic lashes. Rubbing
might also haul out your natural lashes. Also if you are wiping your face with towel take extra
care and instead of rubbing simply pat dry or blotch your face. Shut eyes then permit the
expansions to dry normally. Try not to attempt to dry them with the towel or hair dryer. 4.Avoid
Exercise As mentioned earlier try not to get your expansions wet for 24 to max 48 hours after
using, it is advisable to abstain from working out, and also from steam rooms as sweat or any kind
of dampness will reactivate the glue used and might bring about the lashes to stick together. Thus it
is very important that you make sure no moisture or dampness get onto your lashes. 5.No Curlers
Try not to perm your lashes or utilize any mechanical eyelash styler as these stylers will harm the
expansions and perhaps your own natural. The augmentations do have a characteristic twist thus

Rhetorical Analysis Of The 1969 Apollo
Itzel Nava
AP English Language

October 1, 2017
Culminating Activity Rhetoric can be used as a great way to convince an audience, but it has also
helped many people become better writers. The use of rhetoric in writing is crucial because it s
what makes the source effective or ineffective, so that you are able to persuade the audience.
Rhetoric is defined as, the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing. In order for the
speaker to persuade the audience is using figurative language and the rhetoric appeals. Some
appeals which consist of ethos, pathos, and logos. Each of these which is important in order to
catch the audience attention. All these text are related to the 1969 Apollo mission which included:

An example of an effective text using the appeals would be In Event of Moon Disaster by former
President Nixon s speechwriter, William Safire in 1999. This text included both ethos and
pathos which was about if a disaster occurred. William Safire s speech in 1999 was an event of a
disaster that left the citizens of the U.S mourned. Safire expressed pathos through the quote
where he talked about how they will be remembered for their courage to accomplish this
mission. An example would be, They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be
mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned
by a mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown. In this quote Safire let his
audience know that although two men lost their lives in the launch they will always be
remembered. Safire also says, In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as
one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man. From this we can infer that
these men sacrificed their lives to try to accomplish a mission that was almost impossible at the
time due to lack of technology. With this being said, the audience was most likely to react in such a
way that might have left them without a word because of the strong pathos and them being able to
understand this event with some empathy.

The Age Of Humanism In The Last Supper By Leonardo Da Vinci
The Renaissance, a period of cultural and artistic change in Europe from the fourteenth to the
seventeenth century often known as the Age of Humanism, began in Italy where the culture was
surrounded by the remnants of a once glorious empire. The Italians rediscovered art, architecture,
writings, philosophy, of ancient Romans and Greeks, and began to realize the relics as a golden
age in which it inspired their society at that period of time.
Artists were granted with greater flexibility in what they were to produce, and they took advantage
of it by exploring new techniques. Painters would study light and shadow and make the painting
real and natural along with humanism became more idealistic where religion is not everything.

Now that modernists have pushed all boundaries there are to push, I feel that we owe it to the
Renaissance as it is the most defining art movement in art history. Because no artistic movement
has contributed to the development of art as much as the Renaissance. Before the Renaissance,
paintings were flat and lack of real depth and appropriate shading, but ever since the invention of
linear perspective, it became a few found interest for artists to observe the natural world in a whole
new light. Artists were divinely inspired. Examples of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinciand
Raphael, have contributed the most significant and renowned works of not only for the Italian High
Renaissance, but for Italy, and the world. Their contributions are where the concepts of modern art
were discovered. Our understanding of perspective and human forms in art as well as in science
would be severely limited without their influences. Therefore, the discovery of Renaissance art is a
new revolution in art and an eye opener for the world to its own

Comparing The Handmaid s Tale With The English Patient
Ze Qin Qiu Contemporary Literature Essay 1 Comparison of The Handmaid s Tale with The
English Patient The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood and The English Patient by Michael
Ondaatje can be considered as two works that reflect the change in writing style common of more
modern literature. As opposed to their older counter parts, these works of contemporary literature
seem to focus more on the connections, especially that of love, that forms between the characters.
In The English Patient, everything from the flashbacks to the sudden change in narrator, serves to
outline the connections between the main characters in this story. Similarly in The Handmaid s
tale, the flashbacks and inner thoughts of the main protagonist, Offred, serves to demonstrate the
connections that influenced her. In both stories, regardless of the time and circumstances, the
characters in the book were able to recall connections that were formed and use them to reminisce
about the past. It could be said that the two books show humanity s ability to form meaningful
connections that are able to surpass the limits of time and space. The English Patient is one of the
two such books examined in this paper that show s humanity s ability to form connections that
stay with us without regards to time and space. Set in a villa in Italy during WWII, The English
Patient focuses on the experiences of a group of people in the midst of this war. One such set of
character is the nurse Hana and her

For all his popularity as a war leader, Winston Churchill lost the 1945 general election to Labour

said to have replied that it was very well disguised . Churchill was a fan of a drink, in particular
Champagne. He said of it: I could not live without Champagne. In victory I deserve it. In defeat I
need it. An American writer visiting London at the time Churchill was named Prime Minister,

singleness of purpose. People said they didn t know what Britain would do without him. He was
obviously respected. But no one felt he would be Prime Minister after the war. He was simply
the right man in the right job at the right time. Churchill was indeed defeated in the 1945 election.

Yugoslavia War Research Paper
Often termed as Europe s deadliest since World War II, the Yugoslavia War has been infamous for
the war crimes, which include ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity and rape. These wars
supplemented and aided the weathering of the Yugoslav state, when its constituent republics
declared independence, but the issues of ethnic minorities in the new countries (chiefly Serbs,
Croats and Albanians) were still unsettled at the time the republics were accepted internationally.
The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia(ICTY) was established by the United
Nations to prosecute these crimes. According to the International Centre for Transitional Justice,
the Yugoslavia War led to the deaths of 140,000 people.

Add lemon juice and season with salt and pepper.
Process until everything starts to come together.
Slowly add the water until the soup thins out a bit. The goal is a smooth consistency.
Taste and season with more salt and black pepper if needed.
Ladle into bowls and serve with crostini. Garnish the soup with fresh mint if desired.
This soup utilizes affordable, fresh ingredients in the best way possible. It has depth and
complexity without coming across as too bold or overwhelming. The aspect of this soup that
really allows it to shine is the cold temperature. Serving it chilled actually brings out the flavors
of the ingredients and melds them together really nicely. The crostini adds a lot to the soup as
well by adding some texture variation. Cold creamy soup on toasted bread appeals to everyone s

How Are Maggie And Dee Alike

many characteristics that are different, but they also have a few characteristics that are similar. Dee

share the characteristic of being clever. Firstly, Dee and Maggie differ in the characteristic of
assertiveness. From the very beginning, one can notice that Dee is a lot more assertive than
Maggie. In fact, it can be said that Maggie is not assertive at all; she is submissive. Dee is decisive

They both are clever. Even though they are both clever, they are clever in different ways. Dee is
educated when it comes to academics. For example, Mama says that Dee went to Augusta to
school and learned many things, But that was before we raised the money, the church and me,
to send her to Augusta to school... She washed us in a river of make believe, burned us with a
lot of knowledge we didn t necessarily need to know, (Page 79). Dee is very clever because she
went to Augusta, Georgia for school and is knowledgeable in subjects related to academics. Her
knowledge on those subjects still doesn t mean that it is any use to her family directly.
Likewise, Maggie is also very clever. Maggie may not be as educated as Dee, but she is still very
clever. Maggie shows how clever she is when she says this, Aunt Dee s first husband whittled the

Homelessness and Mental Illness
Imagine a man on the streets, who society has forgotten. This man emits the smell of garbage; he

Homelessness and mental illness are linked. These two happenings have similar beginnings.
Homelessnessis influenced by drug and alcohol disuse, being homeless at a young age, money
problems, and trauma symptoms. Mental illness is caused by many of the same things, but it can
also happen at birth. The effects that each entity has on a person are comparable. Rehabilitation is

reintroducing people to society. The most difficult problem with their conclusions is the aspect of
housing. Housing First is one of the many healthcare and housing organizations to yield multiple
aids for the homeless and mentally ill (Somers et al. 1). These aids consist of sustainable market

first real solutions shown in reintroducing the once homeless into society. Haven for Hope homeless

Is Piracy Truly Hurting The Film, Record, And Game Industry
You wouldn t download a pizza! A popular advertisement against internet piracy in the late
nineties and the early 2000s, albeit while humorous, shows the public stance on piracy. Although
internet piracy is often seen as a horrible crime that cripples the movie, gaming, and record
industries; recent studies, as well as the outlook of several major companies/producers, say that
( You ) these claims are over exaggerated. The question posed in this paper is fairly simple, but
has been debated since the first few years internet piracy began to bud: is piracy truly hurting the
film, record, and game industry as much as we are told? Before statistics are thrown in, as well
as interviews and other various factoids, the definition of piracy should be made clear. Piracy
refers to the act of using or reproducing another s work without authority. The alternate definition;
however, which is older and still used today, means, The attacking and robbing of ships at sea.
You will never see Blackbeard torrenting (torrenting is a popular form of obtaining pirated
media) the latest Katy Perry album, and you will never see some nerdy kid with no money
plundering a cruise ship. Public opinion of piracy is not a very positive one: record companies,
film producers, and even some game developers see pirates as heartless criminals, sitting behind a
keyboard as they download millions of dollars worth of stolen content, and in turn, about forty
percent of the general public see it that way as

Interview With Blanchefort Djimsa
To learn from another that is not like you, that is from another country, gives you the opportunity to

country is comparatively slightly 3 times the size of California . With two seasons, the rainy
season from late April to September (depending on the length of the rainy season which can vary),

John Was Preaching Against Rome
John was preaching against Rome in Revelation
In the late first century a follower of Jesus of Nazareth, John of Patmos, received a vision of the
end the world. John later wrote this vision down and his writing has come down to modernity as
The Book of Revelation also known as The Apocalypse of John. When John wrote Revelation
was he using it as a coded message to preach against Rome? In this vision, John saw many
images that could be read as Rome or Roman if viewed from a historical context. Subsequent
generations have interpreted the imagery within their own historical context. With this paper I
will argue that Revelation pertains to the Roman world and culture that John and his followers
were living in, the events in Judea that are thought to have occurred within his life time and that
John used some of the same imagery to connect his writing to the Hebrew Bible. There are two
main competing dates for the writing of Revelation, an early date of 69 70 and a later date of 90
92. This paper will be using the 69 70 date and will be providing evidence to prove why this date
works better for the context of this paper. First this paper will establish the time frame in which
John wrote Revelation. George H. van Kooten s article, The Year of the Four Emperors and the

The Impact Of National Football League And National...
Introduction In Baseball, statistics are in abundance. Unlike the National Football League and
the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball(MLB) does not have a salary cap.
This has caused a lot of randomness in salaries. The salaries of teams also varies quite a bit as
well. From the data I have used, in 2015, the Los Angeles Dodgers salary was almost five times
higher than the Miami Marlins. What would cause such a disparity? Being a Baltimore Orioles
fan and my father being a New York Yankee fan, we would argue statistics and I usually would
have a less than substantial argument for my beloved Orioles. My father would say 25,
implying the number of pennants the Yankees had. Given this was about eight years ago, I had
not taken a statistics class. I did, without research, argue that the Baltimore Orioles do more with
their salary. While thinking of a regression earlier this semester, I wanted to run a regression of
team wins on the city size. My theory was larger cities meant higher salaries and in turn more
wins because of the higher salaries. I ran the regression and found the results to be very
insignificant and had no basis of explaining the wins of a team. A recent outcome in Baseball,
blew my theory out of the water. The Kansas City Royals play in the third smallest market
according to metropolitan size.(1) The Royals are also 13th on a list of highest salaries in the
MLB.(3) The Royals won the 2015 World Series. There is a lot of randomness

The On Rain Forest Floor During Ecology Research
Introduction
In an attempt to avoid walking on the rain forest floor during ecology research in South America,
rope walkways were strung from tree to tree. To ensure the safety of the researchers, the maximum
weight that could be carried from tree to tree without the walkways collapsing had to be set. To
model this system, two pulleys containing a central object suspended halfway between them with
counterweights of equal mass on the outside of the pulleys was created, as shown in Figure 1. Our
goal was to determine how the sag of the walkway was related to the total mass at the center of the
pulleys.
Figure 1: The apparatus used (not to scale). A and C are the masses of the counterweight objects.
A and C are equal masses. B is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
F1 is the weight of counterweight A, F2 is the weight of counterweight C, and Fw is the weight of
the central object. Also shown are the forces on a coordinate system for the counterweights and the
central object. The distances between the pulleys and the sag of the walkway are also shown on a
coordinate system.
The system is in equilibrium, so we assumed that the horizontal and vertical components of the
forces will add up to zero. The counterweights A and C both had an equal mass, so they were both
referred to as F1 to simplify calculations. Where Mw is the force of the mass of object B and
gravity is g, we could solve for Fw. Fw = Mwg (1)
Using the mass of the counterweight objects A and C, the force F1 can be calculated using MA
and gravity. Because the pulleys are frictionless the force F1 should be the same magnitude on all
parts of the string between the center object and the object A.
F1 = MAg (2)
Using the trigonometry function sin, a combination of equations (1) and (2), and the law of
equilibrium ОЈF = 0 where Fy=0 and Fx=0, the angle П• can be found.
F1sinП• + F1sinП• = Fw (3)
Rearranging equation (3) to give the angle П• by itself gives П• = sin 1(Fw/2F1) (4)
Since the walkway system creates a right triangle, the laws of trigonometry could also be used.
With the distance where the object B lies between the pulleys as L/2 and the angle П•, the sag of
the central object, D, could be found.
D = LtanП•/2 (5)
Combining equations (4) and (5) to

Exploring The Scars Of Centuries Essay
Yael Pineda
History M151C
Professor E. Avila
8 June 2015
Exploring the Scars of Centuries Human slavery is a phenomenon that has been present since the
times of the Romans and the Greeks. As a common misconception, societies, especially America s
tend to believe that slavery was always black. Throughout a period of enslavement, human beings
have again and again treated slavery and racial hierarchy as an act of the norm embedded in human
behavior, which they use in order to make a clear distinction between them and us to justify such
atrocious and immortal acts. With careful analysis of premature human enslavement, whiteness as
beauty, the west and the rest, disparities between European ethnic groups, the study of
anthropology, white slavery, linguistic movements, popular culture and different political
institutions supported by America s governing law, the creation of the white raceis drawn. With
emphasis on the role played by Irish and Black Americans, the support of structural forces and
cultural practices taken from historical examples drawn from the literary works of Harris, Painter,
Roediger and Katznelson, slavery misconceptions, the distinction between races, the formation of
the white race and its benefits and the homogeneity between black and slavery become apparent.
Taking the broader history of human enslavement into account, slavery seen during the time of the
Greeks and the Romans shows an enormous misconception of slavery: slavery was not

The African Exhibit At The Art Institute Of Chicago
The African exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago is difficult to find. At the end of a shotgun
wing consisting of Japanese, Korean, and other East Asian art, and beyond Native American art,
sits the one room gallery for African art. Here, most of the objects could be considered fashions,
tools, or domestic objects. There is a bizarre absence of chronology, and the objects seem too
similar to speak for Africa at large as if everything on display arose from the same historical
situation and from the same experimental sampling pool. Among this ad hoc assortment of

This pattern continues on all sides of the box with the metalwork even making up the hasp on
the front and the hinges of the box s lid on the plain, back panel. Even the interior radiates with
ornamentation. The coppery leather lining of the jewelry box is painted with reds, greens,
purples, and yellows. The geometry of the pattern is vastly different than the exterior. It hosts a
field of angular forms adjoined to their neighbors with repetitious outlines of various colors. Some
of these forms contain even more detail. One can pick out latticing, hatching, cross hatching, and
stippling within these shapes. The detail work creates a contrast between interior and exterior, as
the artistic production between the spaces is vastly different. It seems like these boxes are made
by group effort. Functionally, the jewelry box needs further examination for any comprehension.
Its bulky size makes sense in conjunction with the many surrounding jewelry pieces, which are
elaborate, heavily ornamented, and chunky. Because the back of the chest was plain and so
unlike the rest, it must have been hidden from sight. This could very well mean that the box was
fixed in location, like furniture. Similarly, by understanding that jewelry boxes were used as
dowry or sometimes as a gift from bride to groom, one can also infer the centrality of the box to the
culture. In the United States it is common to receive dinnerware and other

The Importance Of Religious Freedom In America
Today, in modern America, religious freedom is a right for all people, but it was not always this
way. All the founders came from different religions, and found it important to have that freedom
to believe in whatever the individual wants. It forever changed the course of America. Due to one
diligent man, it has become a part of the American life of all citizens. This man believed strongly
in what he wanted, and was persecuted for his beliefs, and kicked out of many universities and
schools. He became a strong advocate, and the colony he established would change the tolerance of
all people. William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, established a colony based on the ideas of
religious liberty, equality, and self government which served as the foundation of America s
constitutional rights in a secular government wherein all citizens may freely practice their religious
belief, those ideas still impact the government s inaction concerning citizens religious practices.
According to William Penn, the key principles of religious toleration were religious liberty, equality,
and self government. According to William Penn: Faith Not Force, it claims Guided by his

The Various Theories of Criminology
Criminology is defined as an interdisciplinary profession built around the scientific study of crime
and criminal behavior including their forms, causes, legal aspects, and control. There are many
aspects in the field of criminology. These aspects include the areas of research involved, the
criminology schools of thought, theoretical developments and the people involved in creating and
developing the theories. What role do criminologists play in the field of criminology? The term
criminologist is used to describe any individual who is employed in the criminal justice field
regardless of formal training. (Schmalleger) These individuals study crime, criminals, and criminal
behavior. Those responsible for collecting and examining physical evidence of crime are referred to
as criminalists. Criminologists perform a variety of activities such as data gathering, data analysis,
theory construction, hypothesis testing, social policy creation, public advocacy and public service,
analysis of crime patterns and trends, education and training, and threat assessment and risk
analysis. Criminology is categorized into three schools of thought: Classical, Positivist, and
Chicago. These three schools fit into three different theoretical developments in criminology.
However, there are six categories that fit into the theoretical developments. The first development is
the Classical School which consists of classical and neoclassical criminology. The classical school

European Imperialism In British India
The works of Thomas Metcalf, T.W. Roberts, Daniel Headrick, and other notable historians explore
the development of the European imperial project through the use of architecture, technology, and
medicine. These technologies become the machines and driving force of imperialism and are used
to retain control over colonial regions. Headrick argues that these sciences provide the means to the
motives behind the imperialist powers who are working to keep their territorial subjects subdued to
their will. Without the means of technology, the motive can never be achieved, and the constructed
empires are inevitably doomed to failure. Along with the means of technology, the invention, use,
and implantation of these technologies also reflect the broader political and social trends of the
empires. Architecture, technology, and medicine showcase the changes in imperial policies,
ideologies and overarching view of the empireitself. (Present or Past Tense)
Metcalf s analysis of architecture in British India shows how a combination of cultures becomes
essential in designing an empire that reflected both the colonizer and the subjects. After the Sepoy
Mutiny of 1857, British officials realized that a serious reassessment of Indian culture was
necessary for Britain to remain the colonial power. Metcalf explores the construction of the Mayo
College and the architectural debates that came with building it. The formation and science behind
the architecture are essential to empire building

Still Alice Still Alice is about a well respected psychologist named Alice Howland diagnosed with
Alzheimer s disease. Alzheimer s disease is described as a progressive, incurable disease that
destroys memory and important mental functions. Alice displayed many signs and symptoms of
Alzheimer s disease, such as mental decline, difficulty thinking and understanding, disorientation,
poor concentrating, agitation, forgetfulness, self care deficits, personality changes, getting lost and

I was very surprised how much short term memory is greatly affected. While Alice was looking
through her computer, she stumbled onto a file titled Butterfly , a note that she wrote to herself.
In the note, it explained Alice is a great, special woman and if the disease has gotten
progressively worse, then it s time to commit suicide by swallowing a bottle of pills. The suicide
attempt was unsuccessful because Alice couldn t retain any of the instruction so she wasted a lot of
time trying to following direction. When she finally found the bottle, her caretaker came home and
started her, which made her spill the bottle of pills. Within seconds, Alice looks confused and
forgot what she was trying to do.
Overall, the movie portrayed Alzheimer s disease at its best. The movie was able to list all the signs
and symptoms, genetic aspect, and the hardship on the patient, family, and friends. I was surprised
that Alice had difficulties completing simple sentences and tasks. I was able to experience
Alzheimer s disease through Alice and truly understand the difficulties she went through with her

Tracking and Finding Patterns to Earthquakes
Marmara Region of Istanbul has a history of catastrophic earthquakes such as the ones that struck
on 17 August 1999 (Mw=7.4) and12 November 1999 (Mw=7.2). This led to the introduction of
Istanbul Earthquake Rapid Response and Early Warning System (IERREWS) as a preventive
measure for future earthquakes occurrences. This system consists of a dense network of 100 strong
motion recorders located in the metropolitan area of Istanbul, 10 near the Great Marmara Fault and
40 more located at important structures (Mert et al 2004). The early warning systemof the
(IERREWS) is based on exceeding of predetermined thresholds values for the peak ground
acceleration (PGA) and Cumulative Absolute Velocity(CAV) it has three alarm levels. If the value
of CAV exceeds the threshold value it is considered a vote and within a specified time interval if
the threshold value is exceeded in 2 or 3 stations the first alarm is declared. The original CAV
has been modified to Bracketed CAV (BCAV) which is a summation of the maximum
acceleration value exceeding a threshold value within a specific time domain generally at a one
second interval. A recently modified version of the BCAV called the Windowed Bracketed CAV
(BCAV W) has been suggested which integrates the maximum acceleration values for a window
length of 8 seconds. For the bracketed CAV window the threshold values suggested for the three
alarm levels are 0.20, 0.40 and 0.70 m/s (Alcik et al 2009).

Analysis Of Snow White And The Seven Drawfs
The film of Snow White and the Seven Drawfs (1938) is directed by David Hand (supervising) an
animated musical fantasy that film produced by Walt Disney Productions and originally released
by RKO Radio Pictures. The film shows the audience how heroism is the major theme because
there are good individuals (i.e. the seven dwarfs, the forest animal and the prince) around whom we
can count on to do the right thing even when we are in trouble. Surprisingly, the film story is
slightly told differently from the original story written by the Grimm brothers. In effect, Disney
removes scenes such as [a mother] eating the lungs and liver of her supposedly dead daughter
because that the animated film is addressed to young children(Davis, 2009). Not mention, young
children would not understand why a mother would want to kill her own daughter out of jealousy.
The movie Snow White and the Seven Drawfs has many themes but heroism is the main focus in
this paper. In short, heroism is established through costumes, acting style, and lighting.
Heroes are dressed in costumes. This is shown in The Evil Queen s Death scene in which the
animal sense danger and after attempting to drive [the Witch] away, rush to the mine to fetch the
dwarfs, where they try to warn them.nWhen Sleepy suggests that the Queen has found Snow
White, the dwarfs rush home to find that the Witch has succeeded in poisoning the princess and it
s about to leave. The dwarfs chase the Witch into the mountains and she reaches the cliff. [The
Witch] attempts to crush the dwarfs with a boulder nut a flash of lightning causes her to fall from
the cliff and be crushed by the boulder herself (The Disney Wiki). The seven dwarfs costumes are
different colored stocking caps, tunic, leggings with a black belt with a rectangular outlined buckle,
and medieval style shoes.
After, the handsome Prince arrives in a custom wearing a red cape, a blue tunic over a white shirt
with gray pants, a dagger sheathed at his left hip and boots to kiss Snow White to break the spell
of the Sleeping Death. The heroism theme is established in costumes to become the best version of
yourself and approachable to those in need.
The heroism theme comes through the acting style in Snow White

Essay on Performance Enhancing Drugs Among Athletes
Since the dawn of the twenty first century, performance enhancing drugs have become a religious
practice in the lives of some sport figures. The use of these supplements have given athletes an
edge to perform at maximum capability. Most major athletes all agree on the fact that the
competitive drive is intensely fierce. Despite all, most athletes have high hopes of attaining
prestigious awards, a full ride college scholarship or the once in a lifetime opportunity to play for a
professional team. In such instances, the use of performance enhancing drugshas become
increasingly conventional (Athletes Drug Use). Accomplishing such goals includes taking

With more oxygen flowing through blood and muscle, the better the athlete performs. Any athlete
who uses a performance enhancing drug to deliver more oxygen to their muscles will perform for
longer periods of time throughout the physical activity. Another likely reason an athlete would use
performance enhancing drugs is simply to stimulate the body (Athletes Drug Use). Athletes
constantly need to keep their body stimulated to simply reduce fatigue, gain assertion, and
maintain aggression (Athletes Drug Use). Which is really not much different from a person
drinking coffee in the morning to perk up. Importantly, athletes would use performance enhancing
drugs to help mask injuries (Athletes Drug Use). For example, if a wide receiver breaks his
finger or sprains his knee during a game, there are two options: one, the wide receiver can be taken
out of the game or two, the athletic trainer can give the wide receiver an injection to take the pain
away, allowing him to return to the remainder of the game. With the reasons for taking performance
enhancing drugs in mind, this essay should mention the many categories of performance enhancing
drugs available on the market today, including, growth hormones (HGH), pain killers, supplements,
and steroids. In all levels of sports, athletes all have one common goal, success. Athletes heavily
rely on the use of these substances in hopes of gaining college scholarships, and furthering their

Portrayal Of Servants In Volpone
The portrayal of servants in Shakespeare s and Jonson s plays is contrasting. In Jonson s city
comedies servants are depicted as unethical, manipulating their masters greed and egocentrism in
order to fulfill their own plans and goals. On the other hand, in Shakespeare s pastoral comedies
servants are portrayed as loyal, devoted, reliable and helpful to their masters.
To be more specific, in Jonson s city comedy Volpone the city is portrayed as a dog eat dog,
antagonistic competitive world which is profit orientated, where everything is commodified. In
other words, it is a society that is governed only by greed and profit. Therefore, almost all of his
characters are greedy for power, money, food, alcohol or sex. Jonson satirizes that kind of
characters because he wants his theater to be educating. In the end, usually such greed, such
deception, such immoral behaviors are punished.
Interestingly, the character names in Volpone reveal their personalities elements. Jonson s
connection to Aesop s Fables is obvious, as all the character names in Volpone recall animals,
insects or birds. For example Volpone means fox in Italian, Mosca means Fly etc. In that sense,
Volpone draws from a tradition of Aesopian beast fables. Jonson wants to create an allegory of
greed and also emphasizes that social and religious principles yield to greed and avarice; human
beings are reduced to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and find our ideals, that we should go beyond our materialism. What is more, his satire involves
representatives from all classes, from the servants to the thieves and pickpockets, to merchants,

URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator, and is used to specify addresses on the World Wide

A common way to get to a Web site is to enter the URL of its home page file in your Web browsers

file might be any Web (HTML) page other than the home page, an image file, or a program such
as a common gateway interface application or Java applet. The URL contains the name of the
protocol to be used to access the file resource, a domain name that identifies a specific computer on
the Internet, and a pathname, a hierarchical description that specifies the location of a file in that
computer.
URLs have the following format: protocol://hostname/other_information
The protocol specifies how information from the link is transferred. The protocol used for web
resources is (HTTP). Other protocols compatible with most web browsers include HTTPS, FTP,
telnet, newsgroups, and Gopher. The protocol is followed by a colon, two slashes, and then the
domain name. The domain name is the computer on which the resource is located. Links to
particular files or subdirectories may be further specified after the domain name. Directory names
are separated by single forward slashes

The Road Not Taken
Many writers use symbolism to help reveal things or say something important about life in a
special way In the poem, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, the author uses a variety of
phrases that contains symbolism. All of this symbolism also leads up to a very common theme
that we must usually several times in our lives. First of all, this poem uses a lot of symbolism to
reveal many things that also applies to us in our lives. To begin with, Robert Frostdescribes two (2)
similar roads. One thing he says to support his is, both that morning equally lay/ (/=new line) in

Though, at first, he tries to make himself feel comfortable being able to take both roads by
saying Oh, I kept the first for another day. However, he soon realizes that he will not be able to

that if we take one path, it will lead to many other different things, and it would be very difficult
to go back to the beginning. For example, if one chooses to specialize in learning science, this
will lead up to getting a career that is based upon science. And, at the end, if he would not want
that career, it would become difficult in getting a career in a totally different subject area like
trying to become a English Language Arts Teacher for middle schoolers. This goes on to his idea

Women and men together make a great team for emergency medical services because, it is such
a wide variety of things we encounter. On some calls men are much better at communicating

be things to overcome such as harassment, hostile situations and many other challenges to get
through. You have to love what you do to make it through daily life in your job. It is very
difficult to be first responders and you never know what type of situation you are going to enter
into. Also, I am sure some patients and family members may think when they see a small
woman like me; is she capable to move me, lift that heavy equipment, and so on. I put my all in
everything I do and have a true passion from the heart in helping others. I know if you are a

In some situations it is more difficult on women than it is men to deal with current things but,
that also applies to men as well. I set a goal of becoming a Paramedic and in the future going

This paper seeks to use the Flixborough disaster as a case study to point out the need for systems
thinking in industrial activities. There have been many industrial disasters but one that stands
out in its category of Temporary Modifications is the Flixborough disaster. Using a couple of
systems thinking tools described in Anderson and Johnson s (1997) book; Systems Thinking
Basics, we outline all the events leading to the disaster in comparison to the possible outcome if
systems thinking had been applied. One example of systems thinking is OSHA s process safety
management standard. Based on the models used in this paper, it can generally be inferred that
with the right systemic approach, industrial accidents can be totally eliminated. Numerous
events have occurred over time in industry. Some of these events have paved the way for safe
activities in today s industry. One such event is the Flixborough Disaster. My objective in this
paper is to analyze the Flixborough Disaster as a system and the impact of process safety
management on industry safety. The Flixborough Disaster is the most famous of all temporary
modifications disasters where a temporary pipe was installed in the Nypro Factory at

dimensions which occurred at about 4.53 PM on Saturday June 1st 1974 and left the Flixborough

Jane Austen s Novel And The World Of Books
Novels are a unique form of writing that brings about a new style in the world of books. Novel
by its definition is a new kind different from anything ever before. These books range from the
greats to the recently printed because novels only have to be new for when they came out. So for
instance Pride and Prejudice was novelwhen it came out in 1813 just like how Mrs. Dalloway was
novel when it came out in 1925. Although these novels seem to be fiction, if not realistic fiction, it
is common to wonder how the authors came up with these ideas for their books. In actuality most
authors take experiences that they had from their lives and incorporated them into the story. Often
after researching an author one can see that there are many parallels between their novel and their
actual life. Some aspects can be from other situations outside of ones personal life, but ultimately
authors create much of their stories based off of life experiences and can be seen in Housekeeping,
The Passion, and Thomas and Beulah. Growing up in Sandpoint Idaho was the first influence that
Marilynne Robinsonhad when it comes to writing her stories. In this instance it has influenced her
in her writing of Housekeeping to have a more western and Midwestern feel to there locations. On
top of that she includes many rural factors into her stories other than Housekeeping referencing her
life growing up in rural Idaho. One of the more notable factors in this comparison in Housekeeping

frighteningly similar to the checklists used to determining Gifted and Talented children. Family
physicians themselves are under a great deal of pressure from teachers and social workers to

having a difficult time of learning. Even though teachers and social workers are trained to notice

ignorance and misplaced trust which remains among social workers and teachers. Usually

The Great War
The Great War On 28 June 1914, a Serbian shot an Austrian. Within six weeks, many of the
countries of Europe had become involved in a war that was to cause the deaths of 10 million
soldiers, but was the assassination the only cause of war? WWI wasn t just any war, it was also
a new beginning and a new cause for a few of the european countries that had been involved. The
end results for Germany had been the worst, which not only caused Germany to have a new
purpose and have resentments, but also to make something new from that beaten Germany.
WWI was caused by many factors but the ones that always come first to our attention could be
one such as Militarism, which was an arms race that was capable of making countries into great
allies or an enemy to fear. Not only do some people feel pride in being what they but also they
can take their nationalism to a whole new level. Take hitler as an example. Believing that his
race was far better than any of the others out there, but it doesn t end there. Allies was a big part
of it also. If one country went to war with another then the allies would be called upon and join
in as well, which led to the opposing countries allies stepping in followed by any of their allies,
allies. But change played a great role also. Not everyone wanted change which could mean a loss
to any power a country held. Imperialism wasn t accepted by all and there were those leaders in
countries that knew what imperialism could mean to the power they

Friendship in the Kite Runner Essay
The line between a friend and an enemy is thinner than one can ever imagine. In the words of
Henry David Thoreau, True friendship is never serene (ThinkExist.com). The job of a friend is
so much more than a companion, to pass the time with. They help us shape our life, and they re
responsible to be that little voice in our ear, to help us analyze our actions and views. Through
Amir s relationships, The Kite Runner shows the true role of a friend to point and guide us even
when we don t agree; total devotion can ruin not only a friendship, but a life. In Hossini s novel,
there are plenty of examples of a true friendship, which isn t afraid to criticize and be truthful. The
simplest is Amir s wife, Soraya. While some would say her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He sniggers at his car sickness, and rather rudely uproots his childhood memories by telling him
You ve always been a tourist [in Afghanistan], you just didn t know it (Hosseini 592). These
realizations turn out to be one of the quickest cathartic realizations for Amir, as he realizes the
true nature of his country. Farid becomes friends with Amir as he learns his true purpose for
being in Afghanistan, and his friendship is extremely useful to Amir. It isn t the happiest, and it
doesn t last very long, but it helps him find Sohrab, and more importantly, find himself. Farid is
completely truthful with Amir, to the point of being blunt, and probably saves Amir s life many
times. Saying farewell, Amir tells him I didn t know how to say thank you... You ve done so
much for me (Hosseini 792). Amir realizes that their friendship, though rocky, was true and did so
much good in both their lives. Perhaps the longest best example of a true friend throughout the
novel is Amir s godfather, Rahim Kahn. Even before his true relationship with Amir, he is Baba s
greatest friend. Even when it means standing up to Baba, he points him in the right direction many
times. After hearing a particularly vehement rant about Amir, he chides Baba that Children aren t

self centered man I know (Hosseini 98). Rahim has the wisdom to speak up against Baba, who he

An Orthodox Jewish Perspective On Happiness
An Orthodox Jewish Perspective On Happiness
Toba Cohen
May 21, 2015
Capstone
Maalot of Baltimore Social scientists, phychologists, philosophers, and the media are all seeking to
find the true root of happiness and well being. Each views the meaning of happiness differently.
Some of them define happiness in the context of pleasure. How does traditional Judaism define
happiness and suggest its attainment? How does this compare to and differ from the secular goals
of happiness? Traditional Judaism is a religious sect which bases its principals, values, and lifestyle
on the Torah. The Torah was given to Moses by G d on Mount Sinai over 3000 years ago, and has
been handed down through the generations in its unchanging form. Traditional Jews view the
Torah as a divine guidebook for life. The Torah contains instruction about how to live a
meaningful life and very specific details pertaining to the service of man towards G d (Ethics of
the Fathers 1:1). The Torah contains many references to happiness and its attainment. The main
word that is used to mean happiness is simcha. The Jewish people say in the daily prayers, Serve
G d with joy (Psalms 100:2). In Deuteronomy, G d rebukes the Jewish nation and warns them that
if they do not follow His words, they will be cursed with detailed specific punishments. G d
attributes all of these punishments to the fact that they did not serve G d with joy and with a good
heart (Deuteronomy, 28:47). To understand what the word simcha

The Coastal Plains Of Texas
The Coastal Plains of Texas is a large area that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to beyond the Rio
Grande. This region can be divided into 5 distinct areas.
PINE BELT:
It extends 75 to 125 miles into Texas from the east and from north to south from the Red River to
about 25 miles of the Gulf Coast. The Pine Belt is practically the source of all Texastimber
production. Lumber is the principle industry. The climate is good for a variety of fruits and
vegetables. A great oil field discovered in 1931 contributed to the economic growth of the area.
BLACKLAND BELT:
This area stretches from the Rio Grande to the Red River. This area runs through the DFW
metropolitan area. This area is also the most populated with the strongest diversified manufacturing
industry of the state.
COASTAL PRAIRIES:
This area extends along the Gulf of Mexico, from the Sabine River to the lower Rio Grande Valley.
Cattle ranching is the largest and strongest agriculture industry. Along with cattle ranching, rice is
also a very strong crop in the agriculture industry. More principle crops include cotton, grains,
vegetables, and citrus fruits.
LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY:
This low valley is also known as The Valley. It has the greatest citrus and winter vegetables in
Texas due to the lack of freezing weather. It is ranked very high among the nation s fruit and truck
farming regions.
RIO GRANDE PLAIN:
This massive plain lies south of San Antonio between the Rio Grande and the Gulf Coast. The

A Visit At San Jose Buddhist Church
Awakening For this experience, I decided to explore Buddhism in order to enhance my
involvement with the religion and build a strong understanding. What intrigued me about
Buddhism was the social aspect and diversity that it had to offer. In order to explore this religion
from a critical and analytical viewpoint, I decided to attend a weekend service offered at San Jose
Buddhist Church Betsuin. The San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin main templeis located in the
Japantown section of Central San Jose. What made this temple stand out amongst the others was its
historical standing in the community. It is one of the oldest temples established in the United
States. In order to learn more about the history, environment, and community as a whole, I decided
to contact the temple s staffs. After a brief phone call, I was able to schedule a tour. In preparation,
I decided to do a brief research on Buddhismto familiarize myself with the religionbeforehand. With
all preparations and research necessary, I was ready to visit San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin.
Upon arrival, I was given a brief history about of the Buddhist temple. The San Jose Buddhist
Church Betsuin is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in the United States. Although it was
established in 1907, construction wasn t completed until 1937. During World War II, it was served
as a home to many Japanese Americans released from internment camps. Today, the temple
continues to play an active role in the lives of their descendance

Schizophreni A Major Psychiatric Disorder
Schizophrenia is a major psychiatric disorder that can be crippiling, and is one of top 10 disabilites
in the world (Bhargav, Nagendra, Gangadhar, and Nagarathna, 2014). Schizophrenia usually effects
males in the early 20 s and women in their late 20 s. Symptoms include: delusions, hallucinations,
disorganized thinking (speech), and abnormal motor behavior (mayo clinic). Even with proper
treatment patients still experience symptoms related to their disorder. Proper medication can help
with symptoms, but sometimes this comes with cost of side effects that make a patient not even
want to take the medicine. There is also the cost of paying for a doctor, which can be quite
expensive. The initial consultation can cost up to three hundred dollars with each subsequent visit
costing 100 dollars. There is also the stigma that goes along with Schizophrenia. I m sure everyone
has seen the man or woman walking down the street talking to someone that isn t there, this person
could appear quite normal with help. Schizophrenics are ordinary people that have a disorder, and
with proper treatment can function in society. As mentioned earlier even with proper treatment
individuals with Schizophrenia still experience negative symptoms; as a result a lot of individuals
with Schizophrenia are seeking add on treatments, including myself being diagnosed with
Schizophrenia at the age of 21. Add on treatments are treatments, such as yoga, that go hand in hand

That s why this project is named as PROPELLER LED DISPLAY
Basic principle behind this project:
POV (Persistance Of Vision):
This is the phenomenon which is related to vision capability of human eye by which an after
image is thought to persist for approximately 1/25th of a second. So, if someone is observing the
images at a rate of 25 images per second, then they appear to be continuous. The best example of
this property is the red circle we observe when we rotate the firecracker or incense stick in circle.
1.4 OVERVIEW OF BLOCK DIAGRAM
In this section we will emphasize on detailed overview of each of the block shown in previous
block diagram. In every description of the block respective schematics and working is explained.
The propeller display consists of following blocks, as shown in the block diagram.

1.Interrupter Module
Interrupter module is our sensor module, consisting of the IR interrupt sensor MOC7811, from
Motorola Inc. This sensor was selected from a variety of other alternatives, because of its small
size, precise interrupt sensing, and sturdy casing.
One great advantage of using this module is, interfacing it with the microcontroller is just a matter
of two resistors and a general purpose transistor. Following is the complete circuit diagram of our

Henrietta Lacks Sacrifice
Who was Henrietta Lacks? What if I told you, had she not lived, your life would be very
different today? Her name was Henrietta, she was a poor, uneducated, African American woman,
but she is known today as HeLa, and primarily only in the scientific community. Henrietta existed
on this earth a short 31 years, but her cells live on eternally. Cells that she never knew were taken
from her, dare I say stolen, at the most vulnerable time of her life, during surgery for terminal
cervical cancer. Five years ago I read Rebecca Skloots groundbreaking account The Immortal Life
of Henrietta Lacksand I was captivated by Henrietta s story and the effect that this medical
deception had on her family. Her story should be told.

Entrepreneurial Education And Entrepreneurship Education
Although it is a given that many research findings demonstrate an overall agreement on
entrepreneurial education and that entrepreneurship can be learned and taught to a certain extent,
agreements around the entrepreneurship education curriculum such as teaching methods,
appropriateness of concepts and educational course content, are not quite in unison amongst
scholars (Robinson and Hayenes 1991; Kuratko 2005; Pittaway and Cope 2007; LiГ±ГЎn et al
2011). Therefore it can be assumed that entrepreneurial education can be a step forward in
impacting young individuals to develop their entrepreneurial intentions and propensity, but the
extent of such curriculum and its impact on nurturing effective entrepreneurs remains uncertain. 2.5

Recognising prior intentions can allow for a better comprehension of the intended behaviour.
Attitudes can motivate behaviours and the force of intentions. Above all, attitudes and intensions
are very much subjected to a person and his/her circumstance. Indeed, the intention of performing
entrepreneurial behaviours can be influenced by social influences (Dubini and Aldrich 2002) as
well as cognitive factors like beliefs, values and needs to name a few (Lee and Wong 2004). Two
intention models: Ajzen s theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and Shapero s model of the
entrepreneurial event (SEE) have profound ability in predicting a person s entrepreneurial
intentions. As entrepreneurship emphasises a thought process of assessing opportunities over
threats, when a person identifies an opportunity, it is justifiably an intentional process, which may
or may not lead to an entrepreneurial behaviour. Ajzen s model (1987; 1991) argues that planned
behaviours such as creating a start up company are completely intentional, and it depends on self
perceptions of social norms, feasibility and attractiveness. Previous research on cognitive factors
and an individual s intention to enter entrepreneurship were found to overlook personality traits and
take them into account when designing curriculums or training classes on entrepreneurship
(Zarafshani and Rajabi 2011). In fact, not much has been done to explore the association between
entrepreneurial intentions and personality traits.

Ethical Uses Of Radio Frequency Identification
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) transmits stored information between a reader and a tag,
over low frequency electromagnetic radiation, the transmitted information can then be used for a
variety of purposes, which make it essential to modern society, including uses in: identification,
security, payment, and tracking. While RFIDhas a significant number of uses, there are a number of
ethical issues which must be tackled.
The wave through which the information is transmitted is referred to as the carrier wave, in
RFID the carrier wave is in the radio frequency (electromagnetic radiation with frequencies
between 3 kHz 300 GHz) (Mai, 2017). RFID predominantly uses three radio bands; low frequency
(125 134 kHz), high frequency (13.56 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the type of tag used will depend on the desired application.
RFID is a large industry, with applications in identification, payment, access control, and more. In
2014 the world market for RFID was estimated to be US$8.89 billion, in 2026, it is predicted to
reach US$18.68 billion (Das, 2017). However, as more uses become apparent and the
technology continues to develop it is possible that the industry will grow at an even greater rate
than projected. RFID has become more prevalent in modern society due to RFID tags becoming
more economically viable; in 2003, a passive tag was estimated to cost $1, while in 2013, it was
only $0.10, thus more widespread implementation of RFID is possible, as it becomes less
expensive. (Thau, 2017).
Most modern banks cards are embedded with passive tags, which allows secure payments to be
made when in close proximity with the reader (referred to as contactless payment). In Australia
transactions under $100 can be made without inputting the PIN, this helps improve the efficiency of
transactions, and thus reduces waiting times (Heffernan, 2016). Contactless cards are also
commonly employed in Public transport systems around the world. For instance, in greater London
Oyster Cards possess passive RFID tags which streamline transaction efficiency and reducing waste
from paper tickets across public transport (Muller, 2016).
A common application of RFID technology is the identification

Professional Ethics and Values

Professional Values and Ethics
University of Phoenix
Professional Values and Ethics
What is the difference between values and ethics? Values are rules by which people make
decisions about what is right versus wrong; good versus bad and what one should or should not
do. The definition of values according to Dictionary.com is the ideals, customs, institutions, etc., of
a society toward which the people of the group have an affective regard. These values may be
positive, as cleanliness, freedom, or education, or negative, as cruelty, crime, or blasphemy (The

In today s society so many cases of people who have chosen to ignore ethics and values in the
pursuit of success or financial gain only end in their demise. A closer examination of
professional values and ethics in America certainly reveal that companies or organizations that
adhere to a well defined set of professional values and ethics will stand the test of time. Many of
America s oldest and financially sound companies are strong today because they followed a well
defined code of business values and ethics. Ford Motor Company is one example, Henry Ford
believed so strongly in his company s code of ethics that he doubled the pay of employs who
complied with his code of conduct, which was based upon his personal religious beliefs regular
church attendance, no alcohol, no late hours, and no frivolous spending. J.C. Penney is another
company that is a prime example of a successful company that was built on professional values
and ethics. Penney took a stand against the unfair business practices of his time; he developed a
code of ethics which is considered one of the first general codes for ethics in business. His
business partners were required to pledge honesty, integrity, and moral leadership; they were
required to follow a code of ethics which can arguably be attributed to the success of many
American businesses.

Rhetorical Analysis Of The 1969 Apollo Itzel Nava AP English Language Period:3 October 1, 2017 Culminating Activity Rhetoric can be used as a great way to convince an audience, but it has also helped many people become better writers. The use of rhetoric in writing is crucial because it s what makes the source effective or ineffective, so that you are able to persuade the audience. Rhetoric is defined as, the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing. In order for the speaker to persuade the audience is using figurative language and the rhetoric appeals. An example of an effective text using the appeals would be In Event of Moon Disaster by former President Nixon s speechwriter, William Safire in 1999. This text included both ethos and pathos which was about if a disaster occurred. William Safire s speech in 1999 was an event of a disaster that left the citizens of the U.S mourned. Safire expressed pathos through the quote where he talked about how they will be remembered for their courage to accomplish this mission. An example would be, They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown. In this quote Safire let his audience know that although two men lost their lives in the launch they will always be remembered. Safire also says, In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man. From this we can infer that these men sacrificed their lives to try to accomplish a mission that was almost impossible at the time due to lack of technology. With this being said, the audience was most likely to react in such a way that might have left them without a word because of the strong pathos and them being able to understand this event with some empathy. ... • 4. The Age Of Humanism In The Last Supper By Leonardo Da Vinci The Renaissance, a period of cultural and artistic change in Europe from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century often known as the Age of Humanism, began in Italy where the culture was surrounded by the remnants of a once glorious empire. The Italians rediscovered art, architecture, writings, philosophy, of ancient Romans and Greeks, and began to realize the relics as a golden age in which it inspired their society at that period of time. Artists were granted with greater flexibility in what they were to produce, and they took advantage of it by exploring new techniques. Artists were divinely inspired. Examples of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinciand Raphael, have contributed the most significant and renowned works of not only for the Italian High Renaissance, but for Italy, and the world. • 5. Comparing The Handmaid s Tale With The English Patient Ze Qin Qiu Contemporary Literature Essay 1 Comparison of The Handmaid s Tale with The English Patient The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood and The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje can be considered as two works that reflect the change in writing style common of more modern literature. As opposed to their older counter parts, these works of contemporary literature seem to focus more on the connections, especially that of love, that forms between the characters. In The English Patient, everything from the flashbacks to the sudden change in narrator, serves to outline the connections between the main characters in this story. Similarly in The Handmaid s tale, the flashbacks and inner thoughts of the main protagonist, Offred, serves to demonstrate the connections that influenced her. In both stories, regardless of the time and circumstances, the characters in the book were able to recall connections that were formed and use them to reminisce about the past. It could be said that the two books show humanity s ability to form meaningful connections that are able to surpass the limits of time and space. The English Patient is one of the two such books examined in this paper that show s humanity s ability to form connections that stay with us without regards to time and space. Set in a villa in Italy during WWII, The English Patient focuses on the experiences of a group of people in the midst of this war. One such set of character is the nurse Hana and her ... Although internet piracy is often seen as a horrible crime that cripples the movie, gaming, and record industries; recent studies, as well as the outlook of several major companies/producers, say that ( You ) these claims are over exaggerated. The question posed in this paper is fairly simple, but has been debated since the first few years internet piracy began to bud: is piracy truly hurting the film, record, and game industry as much as we are told? Before statistics are thrown in, as well as interviews and other various factoids, the definition of piracy should be made clear. John Was Preaching Against Rome John was preaching against Rome in Revelation In the late first century a follower of Jesus of Nazareth, John of Patmos, received a vision of the end the world. John later wrote this vision down and his writing has come down to modernity as The Book of Revelation also known as The Apocalypse of John. When John wrote Revelation was he using it as a coded message to preach against Rome? In this vision, John saw many images that could be read as Rome or Roman if viewed from a historical context. Subsequent generations have interpreted the imagery within their own historical context. With this paper I will argue that Revelation pertains to the Roman world and culture that John and his followers were living in, the events in Judea that are thought to have occurred within his life time and that John used some of the same imagery to connect his writing to the Hebrew Bible. There are two main competing dates for the writing of Revelation, an early date of 69 70 and a later date of 90 92. This paper will be using the 69 70 date and will be providing evidence to prove why this date works better for the context of this paper. First this paper will establish the time frame in which John wrote Revelation. Unlike the National Football League and the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball(MLB) does not have a salary cap. This has caused a lot of randomness in salaries. The salaries of teams also varies quite a bit as well. From the data I have used, in 2015, the Los Angeles Dodgers salary was almost five times higher than the Miami Marlins. What would cause such a disparity? Being a Baltimore Orioles fan and my father being a New York Yankee fan, we would argue statistics and I usually would have a less than substantial argument for my beloved Orioles. My father would say 25, implying the number of pennants the Yankees had. Given this was about eight years ago, I had not taken a statistics class. I did, without research, argue that the Baltimore Orioles do more with their salary. While thinking of a regression earlier this semester, I wanted to run a regression of team wins on the city size. My theory was larger cities meant higher salaries and in turn more wins because of the higher salaries. I ran the regression and found the results to be very insignificant and had no basis of explaining the wins of a team. A recent outcome in Baseball, blew my theory out of the water. The On Rain Forest Floor During Ecology Research Introduction In an attempt to avoid walking on the rain forest floor during ecology research in South America, rope walkways were strung from tree to tree. To ensure the safety of the researchers, the maximum weight that could be carried from tree to tree without the walkways collapsing had to be set. To model this system, two pulleys containing a central object suspended halfway between them with counterweights of equal mass on the outside of the pulleys was created, as shown in Figure 1. Our goal was to determine how the sag of the walkway was related to the total mass at the center of the pulleys. Figure 1: The apparatus used (not to scale). F1 is the weight of counterweight A, F2 is the weight of counterweight C, and Fw is the weight of the central object. Also shown are the forces on a coordinate system for the counterweights and the central object. The distances between the pulleys and the sag of the walkway are also shown on a coordinate system. The system is in equilibrium, so we assumed that the horizontal and vertical components of the forces will add up to zero. The counterweights A and C both had an equal mass, so they were both referred to as F1 to simplify calculations. Where Mw is the force of the mass of object B and gravity is g, we could solve for Fw. Fw = Mwg (1) Using the mass of the counterweight objects A and C, the force F1 can be calculated using MA and gravity. Because the pulleys are frictionless the force F1 should be the same magnitude on all parts of the string between the center object and the object A. F1 = MAg (2) Using the trigonometry function sin, a combination of equations (1) and (2), and the law of equilibrium ОЈF = 0 where Fy=0 and Fx=0, the angle П• can be found. F1sinП• + F1sinП• = Fw (3) Rearranging equation (3) to give the angle П• by itself gives П• = sin 1(Fw/2F1) (4) Since the walkway system creates a right triangle, the laws of trigonometry could also be used. With the distance where the object B lies between the pulleys as L/2 and the angle П•, the sag of the central object, D, could be found. D = LtanП•/2 (5) Combining equations (4) and (5) to

Avila 8 June 2015 Exploring the Scars of Centuries Human slavery is a phenomenon that has been present since the times of the Romans and the Greeks. As a common misconception, societies, especially America s tend to believe that slavery was always black. Throughout a period of enslavement, human beings have again and again treated slavery and racial hierarchy as an act of the norm embedded in human behavior, which they use in order to make a clear distinction between them and us to justify such atrocious and immortal acts. With careful analysis of premature human enslavement, whiteness as beauty, the west and the rest, disparities between European ethnic groups, the study of anthropology, white slavery, linguistic movements, popular culture and different political institutions supported by America s governing law, the creation of the white raceis drawn. With emphasis on the role played by Irish and Black Americans, the support of structural forces and cultural practices taken from historical examples drawn from the literary works of Harris, Painter, Roediger and Katznelson, slavery misconceptions, the distinction between races, the formation of the white race and its benefits and the homogeneity between black and slavery become apparent. The geometry of the pattern is vastly different than the exterior. It hosts a field of angular forms adjoined to their neighbors with repetitious outlines of various colors. Due to one diligent man, it has become a part of the American life of all citizens. He became a strong advocate, and the colony he established would change the tolerance of all people. William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, established a colony based on the ideas of religious liberty, equality, and self government which served as the foundation of America s constitutional rights in a secular government wherein all citizens may freely practice their religious belief, those ideas still impact the government s inaction concerning citizens religious practices. • 24. European Imperialism In British India The works of Thomas Metcalf, T.W. Roberts, Daniel Headrick, and other notable historians explore the development of the European imperial project through the use of architecture, technology, and medicine. These technologies become the machines and driving force of imperialism and are used to retain control over colonial regions. Headrick argues that these sciences provide the means to the motives behind the imperialist powers who are working to keep their territorial subjects subdued to their will. Without the means of technology, the motive can never be achieved, and the constructed empires are inevitably doomed to failure. Along with the means of technology, the invention, use, and implantation of these technologies also reflect the broader political and social trends of the empires. Architecture, technology, and medicine showcase the changes in imperial policies, ideologies and overarching view of the empireitself. (Present or Past Tense) Metcalf s analysis of architecture in British India shows how a combination of cultures becomes essential in designing an empire that reflected both the colonizer and the subjects. After the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, British officials realized that a serious reassessment of Indian culture was necessary for Britain to remain the colonial power. Metcalf explores the construction of the Mayo College and the architectural debates that came with building it. The formation and science behind the architecture are essential to empire building ... Tracking and Finding Patterns to Earthquakes Marmara Region of Istanbul has a history of catastrophic earthquakes such as the ones that struck on 17 August 1999 (Mw=7.4) and12 November 1999 (Mw=7.2). This led to the introduction of Istanbul Earthquake Rapid Response and Early Warning System (IERREWS) as a preventive measure for future earthquakes occurrences. This system consists of a dense network of 100 strong motion recorders located in the metropolitan area of Istanbul, 10 near the Great Marmara Fault and 40 more located at important structures (Mert et al 2004). The early warning systemof the (IERREWS) is based on exceeding of predetermined thresholds values for the peak ground acceleration (PGA) and Cumulative Absolute Velocity(CAV) it has three alarm levels. If the value of CAV exceeds the threshold value it is considered a vote and within a specified time interval if the threshold value is exceeded in 2 or 3 stations the first alarm is declared. The original CAV has been modified to Bracketed CAV (BCAV) which is a summation of the maximum acceleration value exceeding a threshold value within a specific time domain generally at a one second interval. A recently modified version of the BCAV called the Windowed Bracketed CAV (BCAV W) has been suggested which integrates the maximum acceleration values for a window length of 8 seconds. For the bracketed CAV window the threshold values suggested for the three alarm levels are 0.20, 0.40 and 0.70 m/s (Alcik et al 2009). 2.5ElarmS: The ElarmS algorithm is a ... Analysis Of Snow White And The Seven Drawfs The film of Snow White and the Seven Drawfs (1938) is directed by David Hand (supervising) an animated musical fantasy that film produced by Walt Disney Productions and originally released by RKO Radio Pictures. The film shows the audience how heroism is the major theme because there are good individuals (i.e. the seven dwarfs, the forest animal and the prince) around whom we can count on to do the right thing even when we are in trouble. Surprisingly, the film story is slightly told differently from the original story written by the Grimm brothers. In effect, Disney removes scenes such as [a mother] eating the lungs and liver of her supposedly dead daughter because that the animated film is addressed to young children(Davis, 2009). Not mention, young children would not understand why a mother would want to kill her own daughter out of jealousy. The movie Snow White and the Seven Drawfs has many themes but heroism is the main focus in this paper. In short, heroism is established through costumes, acting style, and lighting. Heroes are dressed in costumes. This is shown in The Evil Queen s Death scene in which the animal sense danger and after attempting to drive [the Witch] away, rush to the mine to fetch the dwarfs, where they try to warn them.nWhen Sleepy suggests that the Queen has found Snow White, the dwarfs rush home to find that the Witch has succeeded in poisoning the princess and it s about to leave. The dwarfs chase the Witch into the mountains and she reaches the cliff. [The Witch] attempts to crush the dwarfs with a boulder nut a flash of lightning causes her to fall from the cliff and be crushed by the boulder herself (The Disney Wiki). The seven dwarfs costumes are different colored stocking caps, tunic, leggings with a black belt with a rectangular outlined buckle, and medieval style shoes. After, the handsome Prince arrives in a custom wearing a red cape, a blue tunic over a white shirt with gray pants, a dagger sheathed at his left hip and boots to kiss Snow White to break the spell of the Sleeping Death. Athletes constantly need to keep their body stimulated to simply reduce fatigue, gain assertion, and maintain aggression (Athletes Drug Use). • 33. Portrayal Of Servants In Volpone The portrayal of servants in Shakespeare s and Jonson s plays is contrasting. In Jonson s city comedies servants are depicted as unethical, manipulating their masters greed and egocentrism in order to fulfill their own plans and goals. On the other hand, in Shakespeare s pastoral comedies servants are portrayed as loyal, devoted, reliable and helpful to their masters. To be more specific, in Jonson s city comedy Volpone the city is portrayed as a dog eat dog, antagonistic competitive world which is profit orientated, where everything is commodified. In other words, it is a society that is governed only by greed and profit. Therefore, almost all of his characters are greedy for power, money, food, alcohol or sex. Jonson satirizes that kind of characters because he wants his theater to be educating. In the end, usually such greed, such deception, such immoral behaviors are punished. Interestingly, the character names in Volpone reveal their personalities elements. Jonson s connection to Aesop s Fables is obvious, as all the character names in Volpone recall animals, insects or birds. Although these novels seem to be fiction, if not realistic fiction, it is common to wonder how the authors came up with these ideas for their books. In actuality most authors take experiences that they had from their lives and incorporated them into the story. Often after researching an author one can see that there are many parallels between their novel and their actual life. • 43. The Great War The Great War On 28 June 1914, a Serbian shot an Austrian. Within six weeks, many of the countries of Europe had become involved in a war that was to cause the deaths of 10 million soldiers, but was the assassination the only cause of war? WWI wasn t just any war, it was also a new beginning and a new cause for a few of the european countries that had been involved. The end results for Germany had been the worst, which not only caused Germany to have a new purpose and have resentments, but also to make something new from that beaten Germany. WWI was caused by many factors but the ones that always come first to our attention could be one such as Militarism, which was an arms race that was capable of making countries into great allies or an enemy to fear. Not only do some people feel pride in being what they but also they can take their nationalism to a whole new level. Take hitler as an example. Believing that his race was far better than any of the others out there, but it doesn t end there. Allies was a big part of it also. If one country went to war with another then the allies would be called upon and join in as well, which led to the opposing countries allies stepping in followed by any of their allies, allies. But change played a great role also. Not everyone wanted change which could mean a loss to any power a country held. • 44. Friendship in the Kite Runner Essay The line between a friend and an enemy is thinner than one can ever imagine. In the words of Henry David Thoreau, True friendship is never serene (ThinkExist.com). The job of a friend is so much more than a companion, to pass the time with. They help us shape our life, and they re responsible to be that little voice in our ear, to help us analyze our actions and views. Through Amir s relationships, The Kite Runner shows the true role of a friend to point and guide us even when we don t agree; total devotion can ruin not only a friendship, but a life. In Hossini s novel, there are plenty of examples of a true friendship, which isn t afraid to criticize and be truthful. The simplest is Amir s wife, Soraya. While some would say her... He sniggers at his car sickness, and rather rudely uproots his childhood memories by telling him You ve always been a tourist [in Afghanistan], you just didn t know it (Hosseini 592). These realizations turn out to be one of the quickest cathartic realizations for Amir, as he realizes the true nature of his country. Farid becomes friends with Amir as he learns his true purpose for being in Afghanistan, and his friendship is extremely useful to Amir. It isn t the happiest, and it doesn t last very long, but it helps him find Sohrab, and more importantly, find himself. Farid is completely truthful with Amir, to the point of being blunt, and probably saves Amir s life many times. Saying farewell, Amir tells him I didn t know how to say thank you... You ve done so much for me (Hosseini 792). Amir realizes that their friendship, though rocky, was true and did so much good in both their lives. Perhaps the longest best example of a true friend throughout the novel is Amir s godfather, Rahim Kahn. Even before his true relationship with Amir, he is Baba s greatest friend. Even when it means standing up to Baba, he points him in the right direction many times. After hearing a particularly vehement rant about Amir, he chides Baba that Children aren t coloring books. • 45. An Orthodox Jewish Perspective On Happiness An Orthodox Jewish Perspective On Happiness Toba Cohen May 21, 2015 Capstone Maalot of Baltimore Social scientists, phychologists, philosophers, and the media are all seeking to find the true root of happiness and well being. Each views the meaning of happiness differently. Some of them define happiness in the context of pleasure. How does traditional Judaism define happiness and suggest its attainment? How does this compare to and differ from the secular goals of happiness? Traditional Judaism is a religious sect which bases its principals, values, and lifestyle on the Torah. The Torah was given to Moses by G d on Mount Sinai over 3000 years ago, and has been handed down through the generations in its unchanging form. Traditional Jews view the Torah as a divine guidebook for life. The Torah contains instruction about how to live a meaningful life and very specific details pertaining to the service of man towards G d (Ethics of the Fathers 1:1). The Torah contains many references to happiness and its attainment. The main word that is used to mean happiness is simcha. The Jewish people say in the daily prayers, Serve G d with joy (Psalms 100:2). In Deuteronomy, G d rebukes the Jewish nation and warns them that if they do not follow His words, they will be cursed with detailed specific punishments. G d attributes all of these punishments to the fact that they did not serve G d with joy and with a good heart (Deuteronomy, 28:47). To understand what the word simcha ... • 53. Entrepreneurial Education And Entrepreneurship Education Although it is a given that many research findings demonstrate an overall agreement on entrepreneurial education and that entrepreneurship can be learned and taught to a certain extent, agreements around the entrepreneurship education curriculum such as teaching methods, appropriateness of concepts and educational course content, are not quite in unison amongst scholars (Robinson and Hayenes 1991; Kuratko 2005; Pittaway and Cope 2007; LiГ±ГЎn et al 2011). Therefore it can be assumed that entrepreneurial education can be a step forward in impacting young individuals to develop their entrepreneurial intentions and propensity, but the extent of such curriculum and its impact on nurturing effective entrepreneurs remains uncertain. 2.5 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recognising prior intentions can allow for a better comprehension of the intended behaviour. Attitudes can motivate behaviours and the force of intentions. Above all, attitudes and intensions are very much subjected to a person and his/her circumstance. Indeed, the intention of performing entrepreneurial behaviours can be influenced by social influences (Dubini and Aldrich 2002) as well as cognitive factors like beliefs, values and needs to name a few (Lee and Wong 2004). Two intention models: Ajzen s theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and Shapero s model of the entrepreneurial event (SEE) have profound ability in predicting a person s entrepreneurial intentions. As entrepreneurship emphasises a thought process of assessing opportunities over threats, when a person identifies an opportunity, it is justifiably an intentional process, which may or may not lead to an entrepreneurial behaviour. Ajzen s model (1987; 1991) argues that planned behaviours such as creating a start up company are completely intentional, and it depends on self perceptions of social norms, feasibility and attractiveness. Previous research on cognitive factors and an individual s intention to enter entrepreneurship were found to overlook personality traits and take them into account when designing curriculums or training classes on entrepreneurship (Zarafshani and Rajabi 2011). In fact, not much has been done to explore the association between entrepreneurial intentions and personality traits. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Ethical Uses Of Radio Frequency Identification Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) transmits stored information between a reader and a tag, over low frequency electromagnetic radiation, the transmitted information can then be used for a variety of purposes, which make it essential to modern society, including uses in: identification, security, payment, and tracking. While RFIDhas a significant number of uses, there are a number of ethical issues which must be tackled. The wave through which the information is transmitted is referred to as the carrier wave, in RFID the carrier wave is in the radio frequency (electromagnetic radiation with frequencies between 3 kHz 300 GHz) (Mai, 2017). RFID predominantly uses three radio bands; low frequency (125 134 kHz), high frequency (13.56 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the type of tag used will depend on the desired application. RFID is a large industry, with applications in identification, payment, access control, and more. In 2014 the world market for RFID was estimated to be US$8.89 billion, in 2026, it is predicted to reach US$18.68 billion (Das, 2017). However, as more uses become apparent and the technology continues to develop it is possible that the industry will grow at an even greater rate than projected. RFID has become more prevalent in modern society due to RFID tags becoming more economically viable; in 2003, a passive tag was estimated to cost $1, while in 2013, it was only $0.10, thus more widespread implementation of RFID is possible, as it becomes less expensive. (Thau, 2017). Most modern banks cards are embedded with passive tags, which allows secure payments to be made when in close proximity with the reader (referred to as contactless payment). In Australia transactions under $100 can be made without inputting the PIN, this helps improve the efficiency of transactions, and thus reduces waiting times (Heffernan, 2016). Contactless cards are also commonly employed in Public transport systems around the world. For instance, in greater London Oyster Cards possess passive RFID tags which streamline transaction efficiency and reducing waste from paper tickets across public transport (Muller, 2016). A closer examination of professional values and ethics in America certainly reveal that companies or organizations that adhere to a well defined set of professional values and ethics will stand the test of time. Many of America s oldest and financially sound companies are strong today because they followed a well defined code of business values and ethics. Ford Motor Company is one example, Henry Ford believed so strongly in his company s code of ethics that he doubled the pay of employs who complied with his code of conduct, which was based upon his personal religious beliefs regular church attendance, no alcohol, no late hours, and no frivolous spending.
