The Importance Of A Formal Diagnosis Of Bdd
Data Collection The first step in my data collection will be to recruit participants. Because my study
aspires to get to the lived experience of what it is like to live with BDD, I need to choose participants
who have experienced, or are currently experiencing, this phenomenon. This will require I utilize
criterion based sampling, meaning the population sample will have characteristics relevant to my
research question (Creswell, 2012). Therefore, my task will be to find and select participants who will
be chosen on the basis of a formal diagnosis of BDD, as confirmed through their diagnosing clinician.
In order to do so, I will place advertisements on relevant social media sites, BDD Internet support
group websites, as well as other fitting locations I discover during my process. Prior to placing said
ads, I will be sure to obtain any necessary approval in order to adhere to ethical standards. Once the
prospective participants express interest, I will electronically send an invitation to participate, which
will include an introduction to the research, as well as consent and contact sheets. When participants
agree to participate, paper copies will be mailed to them. After receipt of signed consent and contact
forms, I will contact the clinicians designated on the consent forms in order to obtain a confirmation
of the participants BDD diagnosis prior to beginning. In regard to sample size, I cannot predict the
exact amount of participants I will need for my

Why Is Cheer Important To Me
My Cheer Squad Is Important To Me. My cheer squad is important to me. Whenever I have a problem
they help fix it by finding a solution. They help me with all my situations. I know I can trust them to
help me and when they help me I learn something from them that will also help me another time..
One reason why my cheer squad is important to me is they help stick up for me. This is important to
me because I have a good feeling inside of me knowing someone will help me when I need it.When
they saw I was being bullied they knew I couldn t handle it so they stuck up for me.They told the bully
that it is not nice to pick on people because it will make the person hurt inside. When my cheer team
helped me with this problem they taught me to not let anyone bother you because they are just jealous.
I also stuck up for myself by telling the bully Treat someone the way you wanna be treated. Just then I
realized that is the key to the world and how you should treat someone. ... Show more content on

butterflies in my stomach flew away. I can always count on them when I am frightened of something
or nervous and when they told me its ok to be nervous I realized I should never give up even if I am

Epiphanies in Joyce s Dubliners and Chaucer s Canterbury...
James Joyce s Dubliners is a compilation of stories that all rely on character epiphanies in order to
develop each story. These epiphanies change the tone of each story because each yields a negative
change or reaction. In both Araby and The Dead , the characters realize or learn something about the
world around them, which makes them second guess either themselves or the reason behind their
actions. Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales contains at least one tale that relies on an epiphany to
help develop theme but it doesn t change the tone or course of the story, it just helps to portray the true
meaning of the character. The Pardoner becomes a deeper character because of his epiphany, which is
what makes it important to the rest of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another factor that could possibly have helped to cause the Pardoner s epiphany is the pilgrimage, he
feels the need to repent for all his hypocrisy and scams so his soul doesn t go a blackberrying (pg 511,
ll 78) when he dies. The Pardoner s epiphany doesn t change the course or the tone of the tale in itself,
because he continues to act the way he usually does in regards to his relics and pardons. However, at
the end of the tale the way he acts towards the travelers is just a cover of how he is truly feeling.
The situation is different in Joyce s Dubliners. Each story involves an epiphany that causes the
character to have a negative outlook on life. It changes the tone of the story completely. For example,
in Araby a young boy has a negative experience at a bazaar, which alters his view of the world. He just
wanted to impress an older girl that he loved because she couldn t go to Araby at all. He was so
excited and mesmerized by the thought of the bazaar and possibly even winning the girl s love, that
even the syllables of the word Araby were called to me through the silence in which my soul
luxuriated and cast an Eastern enchantment over me (pg 17). However, the atmosphere of Araby was
the exact opposite of what the boy had been imagining because it wasn t exotic at all. Plus, it was dark
and empty because he arrived around

Computational Advances Of Big Data
In 2013 the overall created and copied data volume in the world was 4.4 ZB and it is doubling in size
every two years and, by 2020 the digital universe the data we create and copy annually will reach 44
ZB, or 44 trillion gigabytes [1]. Under the massive increase of global digital data, Big Data term is
mainly used to describe large scale datasets. Big data is high volume, high velocity and high variety
information assets that demand cost effective, innovative forms of information processing for
enhanced insight and decision making [2]. Volume of Big Data represents the magnitude of data while
variety refers to the heterogeneity of the data. Computational advances create a chance to use various
types of structured, semi structured, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since big data includes large amount of inconsistent, incomplete, and noisy data, a number of data
preprocessing techniques, including data cleaning, data integration, data transformation and data
reduction, can be applied to remove noise and correct inconsistencies [5]. A good amount of feature
selection algorithms of different models have been developed for multiple fields. Although existing
statistical feature selection methods are useful for normal sized datasets, they may fall short in feture
selection in Big Data due to noise, heterogeneity, and large volume. They become inefficient in
extracting the complex and non linear patterns generally observed in this kind of data. On the other
hand, the hierarchial structure of Deep Learning techniques allow them to effectively select and
extract meaningful features from Big Data. Some approaches have been tried for learning and
extracting features from unlabeled image data, include Restricted Boltzmann Machines (RBMs) [6],
autoencoders [7], and sparse coding [8] for different fields including image detection. But most of
these techniques were only able to extract low level features. Hence, to avoid pitfalls and overcome
the challenges, developing and employing computationally efficient algorithms carries high
importance.
Furthermore, most of the proposed feature selection algorithms use batch learning which conducts

A Rising Concern For United States Citizens
Cybercrimes: A Rising Concern for United States Citizens How would someone like to go shopping
this holiday season and go to checkout just to find out that your credit/debit card are being declined?
As they begin to investigate, they start to realize that the problem is much more than they expected
because their identity and personal information was stolen. Cybercrimes have become a main concern
for the United States. Therefore, cybersecurity should be one of the main concerns of security in this
day and age. With cybercrime, a person can be attacked anytime, any day, and anywhere, where there
is internet access. These attacks affect just about every American in one way or another. Cyber attacks
are generally conducted by foreign countries to hack into United States companies to gain access to
Americans personal information for malicious reasons, disrupt the functionality of the government,
and to impose their agenda against the United States.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the three general types of cybercrime are Cyber attacks
are crimes in which the computer system is the target. Cyber attacks consist of computer viruses
(including worms and Trojan horses), denial of service attacks, and electronic vandalism or sabotage.
Cyber theft comprises crimes in which a computer is used to steal money or other things of value.
Cyber theft includes embezzlement, fraud, theft of intellectual property, and theft of personal or
financial data. Other computer

J. L Granatstein s Who Killed Canadian History
I will be examining J. L. Granatstein book Who Killed Canadian History? on its general concept and
solution of the problem at hand. First and foremost, it is important readers know who Granatstein is
because it will explain why he writes so passionately about Canadian history. Granatstein is one of the
most recognized Canadian historians and authors, who have written an impressive total of 45 books.
Along with writing many books regarding Canada, he has won many awards in regards to his work
such as the UBC Medal for Canadian Biography, the J. B. Tyrrell Historical Gold Medal, the Vimy
Award, and the Order of Canada. His academic achievements include honorary degrees from
Memorial University and the University of Calgary. He is also a well known ... Show more content on

I figured it was appropriate that the author did not place the blame on one party. Instead, he addressed
the various individuals in Canada that were not providing a fair education in its national and political
history as well as for the reasons why this is such a big deal. This book was educational as it gave
readers brief and sometimes precise examples, like how Canadians lack national and political
conscience within the academic curriculum. The Country s educational system needs to do a better job
training its educators and ultimately restructuring curriculums to deal with our current problems. The
book s exterior appearance is bright red, and often red, is associated with power. I believe that this
book has the authority to make readers think about their experience concerning Canadian history but
unfortunately, a majority of the population does not know enough of its history to learn from the
mistakes and successes of our predecessors. Along with the strengths of this book (argumentative
perspective, educational, and exterior appearance), there were a few weaknesses as well. To elaborate
on Granasteins effort, I believe he wrote from an androcentric perspective. There were times when he
sounded like a grumpy old historian man. I think his little rants reduced the effectiveness of the book.
He made many prejudice remarks concerning multiculturalism and social history (gender studies,
urban, economics, demographics, etc.). Since history is an accumulation of time periods and each
period varies in length, and the intensity of the events, it might be tough to establish the nation s needs
for clear, measurable standards for history. There is only so much information that an individual s
brain can retain for a period before they start losing

Example Of The Values And Values Of Mahatma Gandhi
Question 1
A) Yes I agree that these are examples of personal mission statements
In the first source Mahatma Gandhi states his values and goals by which he adheres to daily! It helps
him PRIORITISE and plan his daily routine and motivates him to stay on the right path in life. Even
when challenged in his daily life, his mission statement helps him stay focused on his goals, thus
motivating him to succeed! Dr Stephen R Covey stated that Gandhi worked within himself until he
won the private victory and learned the philosophy of his life . (Covey, 2008) This clearly emphasises
the fact that his mission statement personal he strove to make himself a better person in order to
change the world around him

India. He had no formal authority or positon but used his moral authority to achieve this. He lived by
his mission statement I shall not fear anyone on Earth, I shall fear only God to reach out to the hearts
of the 300 million people in India. He showed them hope and showed them that they too could rise up
peacefully against oppression.
In the days leading to India gaining independence Gandhi could have easily assumed a leading role in
taking a powerful role in government. He didn t do that! Instead he wanted to unite his people and
here we can see he lived by his philosophy in resisting untruth, I shall put up with all suffering he
endured the hardship of going on yet another hunger strike just to show his people that they now do
not need to infight but stand together peacefully! Alas he failed this time round with India splitting

The Perspective That Influenced My Life
Everyone s perspectives have been influenced by their experiences. Every so often a grand occurrence
influences one s life in an impactful way, while other times it is the little instances that influence your
life the most. I know that I have definitely been influenced by innumerable occurrences, but one
perspective stands out more than others. My perspective is unlike the majority of others. This is from
the perspective of a girl who has four loving parents. Some kids may find it difficult to deal with four
parents, but for me it is comforting. Having multiple parents, I receive more support with everything I
undertake. For example, it is not just my mother and father supporting my decision to attend Lenape
for Culinary but also my step mother and step father. So, as you can tell I acquire an abundance
amount of support. Although people may be under the impression that it would be more difficult to
receive permission when wanting to do something, in my instance, it is actually better to get more
perspectives. Growing up, my father told me no to a large amount of activities that I wanted to do.
Now I m allowed to do more after school activities, as well as spend more time with friends. I live
with my father and step mother. My step mother is my biggest inspiration. She is the person that I look

to excel. My parents love me and are just trying to prepare me for the future. I also know that if in the

Gran Torino Thesis Statement
A Place Where Anyone Can Succeed? I. Introduction (Intro of topic): In today s day and age it would
be very difficult to find someone who has not heard of the American dream. Although most people
have heard of the American dream, if you were to ask a couple people what the phrase means to them,
there would probably be very different responses. With all the various interpretations of the American
dream out there, it has probably become somewhat difficult to truly understand the meaning behind
the phrase. However, no film better portrays what the American dream is than Gran Torino. Thesis: In
Gran Torino, it is shown that no matter the race or gender, anyone can be happy and successful in
America, as long as they are willing to travel down a potentially hard road and put in the work. I. (2)
Sometimes on the path of achieving the American dream it can be easy to forget what the American
dream truly is, and make the mistake of believing that wealth is what being successful truly means 1.
Walt, Thao, and both of their families seem to care primarily about material possessions 2. Walt
primarily cares about his car, a material possession which also represents the American dream. a. The
American pragmatist, he fixes things as well as finishes things. He spends a lifetime accumulating the
tools in his garage, material goods, naming them and knowing how they work (Alpert) 3. Even though
Walt and his family are well off, he and his family are not close at all II. (3)

Sample Extraction Technique Is Necessary For Various Other...
Mel cepstral feature extraction technique is required in some or the other form in most of the latest
speech and speaker recognition system. Here, first samples of speech are splitted into overlapping
frames. Generally the length of frame is 25 ms and frame rate is 10 ms. Each and every frames are
refined by pre emphasis filter which amplifies higher frequencies. Next is to apply windowing so that
Fourier spectrum for each windowing frame is achieved here Hamming window is used. To obtain
vector of log energy, Mel spaced bank of filter is used which varies from 20 to 40 depending upon the
requirement of particular application. The output of which is converted to give cepstral coefficients
using DCT. Initially for computing the feature vector, 12 coefficients are obtained along with one
energy make its 13 cepstral coefficient. The extended MFCC consist of triple differentiation. 1St order
differentiation is known as Delta coefficient is denoted by _D which has 13 delta cepstral coefficients.
2Nd order differentiation is known as Acceleration coefficient is denoted by _A having 13 delta delta
coefficients. 3Rd order differentiation is known as Third order (Triple delta) coefficient is denoted by
_T which again has 13 triple delta coefficients. Its is said that standard MFCC is given by 39 feature
vector and extended is given by 52 standard vector [1]. When training and testing is performed in
noisy environment, there is severe mismatch which also effects the features.

Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDA)
Mainstreaming Students with Autism
Students with disabilities in the United States won the right to receive an appropriate education in the
least restrictive environment in 1975, with the passage of the Education for All Handicapped Children
Act (P.L. 94 142), now known as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA,
2004) (Kurth, p. 249, Marshall, Goodall, 2015). Prior to 1975, millions of children with disabilities
were simply excluded from school...With P.L. 94 192, states were held accountable for providing an
appropriate education in the least restrictive environment to all students for the first time. Autism, as
defined by Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), refers to a developmental disability
significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction, generally evident
before age three, that adversely affects a child s educational performance (IDEA.ed.gov). Some
characteristics include social interaction difficulties, communication challenges and a tendency to

Infertility Treatments Are Necessary in Today s Society Essay
Infertility Treatments: Is it Ethical?
In recent years, several factors have altered the definition of a family. We live in a time where careers,
education, and work are now put before starting a family, making it more difficult to have children.
The traditional family archetype has changed with a rise in single and homosexual parenting. This
change, even though it is a positive one, can result in several people being unable to bear children.
Infertility treatments have become a popular choice for these people who cannot have children. These
treatments have become popular in books, movies, and other forms, which has brought attention to the
ethics of the practices. The ethics of these treatments are challenged by the health risks on people ...

Those who are infertile may feel distressed that they are not able to become a parent, especially if it is
one of their life goals. Infertility treatments are vital in giving infertile people the chance to fulfill their
lives with a family.
Infertility treatments need to be available simply for the reason that they are helpful for people whose
health conditions inhibit them from producing a child of their own. According to the CDC, 6% of
married women are infertile and 11% of women have troubles getting pregnant. (CDC). They are also
beneficial to single women and men facing infertility issues. People that are infertile may have
problems with reproductive organs, hormonal glands, or genetic disorders that impede on these
couples ability to get pregnant. Infertility can be difficult to those trying to get pregnant. Research has
shown that infertility has negative emotional and psychological effects on a person facing infertility.
People dealing with infertility often feel depressed, distressed, as if they were grieving a loss.

Frieze Of Dancers
Frieze of Dancers is a unique that piece that ties together many of the elements of art and principles of
design. Some elements, such as time and motion, stand out more than others, but that does not change
how diverse this composition is. This painting is 27 7/8 inches tall and 78 7/8 inches wide meaning
that an average sized person would be taller than the painting, but would be smaller than the dancers
when measured from left to right. However, the dancers themselves are relatively the same size when
compared to each other. Each girl takes up a specific amount of space making them seem larger, and
the background almost non existent. The space surrounding the girls is undefined; the floor and the
wall blend together into a light brown background. This light brown is a part of a grander color
scheme that includes darker browns and oranges. Altogether the colors within the painting are muted
with no bright colors. Instead the artist chose to use browns and grays which seems to give the
painting a more realistic and serious air. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lines are not connected to each other, but the lines that are visible help to define the figures and
separate them from the background. Most of the lines found within the painting are implied, and
created by use of shadowing. This is evident in the thigh of the third dancer from the left and the skirts
of the first and second ballerina (also from the left). The third ballerina s leg is clearly defined, but it is
not defined by the lines; it is defined using darker grays. The use of the darker colors creates a shadow
that is not a clear line, but gives the viewer an idea that a line should be there. The layers of the skirts
of the first and second dancers are also defined by shadow rather than by actual lines. These lines also
give the skirts a fluffy texture; making them seem fuller than they

Reagan Administration s Foreign Policy in Latin America
Throughout the Cold War the United States considered the installation in Latin America of radical
regimes socialist, Marxist Leninist, or leftist in any way to be utterly intolerable. Any such
development would represent an advance for the communist cause and a vital loss for the West.
Acceptance of this outcome could weaken the credibility of the United States as the leader of the west
and as a rival for the USSR. In the eyes of Cold Warriors, the consolidation of any left wing regime in
the Western Hemisphere would have dire and perilous implications for U.S. national security and for
the global distribution of power. It was therefore crucial to resist this possibility by ... Show more

The next day Reagan signed an executive order approving the invasion. A combined force of 1,900 US
Marines and army airborne troops launched an assault on Grenada. All significant military objectives
were achieved in roughly 36 hours. Reagan justified the operation as an effort to protect US citizens
whose safety was threatened because a gang of leftist thugs (Lake 182) had seized power to forestall
further chaos, and assist in restoration of democracy.
In El Salvador, a mountainous coffee growing country of 5 million citizens was ruled by an unholy
alliance of large scale landowners and military officers. Acceleration of agriculture exports during the
1960 s led to an increased concentration of rural holdings by large scale landowners and in turn
increased the percentage of peasants who had no land at all. A reformist challenge to the status quo
came through the Christian Democratic Party, under the leadership of José Duarte. As mayor of San
Salvador, Duarte built strong connections with intellectuals, professionals, and other middle class
groups that if the military hadn t interfered and imposed dictatorial rule he would have surely won the
election for presidency in 1972. Fake elections in 1977 led to the installation of General Carlos
Humberto Romero as president, who imposed a law to defend and guarantee public order. Duarte
himself was imprisoned, tortured, and exiled but never fled to the hills. A

Free Will In Julius Caesar Research Paper
Throughout Shakespeare s Julius Caesar a series of events portray a path that leads to Caesar s destiny
being controlled by fate. Some may believe Caesar s destiny is controlled by Caesar and his own free
will since he makes many of his own decisions. Those people are incorrect for the reasoning that no
matter what Caesar or anyone else does, he would still end with the same destiny. He would end up in
the same place as he would even if he had not questioned anything, or he had questioned everyone and
everything more, Caesar would still end up being stabbed in the back by enemies and old friends.
Although some think it is fate, others believe it was free will that controlled Caesar s destiny since he
made all of the choices on his own. Those believing that Caesar chose to refuse the crown three times
say Caesar s destiny is in his own hands. Ay, marry, was t, and he put it by thrice, every time gentler
than the last; (I, i, 225). By saying this, Caesar was making a decision on whether or not he wanted to

Bill C24 Research Paper
Issue: Bill C24 has come under fire by critics for violation of constitutional rights of naturalized
Canadians. The biggest controversy surrounds the citizenship revocation clause that critics argue
undermines the citizenship of naturalized Canadians. Suggested Response: Protecting Canadian
Values: The main purpose of this bill is to protect and strengthen the value of Canadian citizenship
against people who have committed fraudulent activities in order to attain Canadian citizenship, as
well as those individuals who are involved in dangerous crimes and threatens the safety and security
of Canadians. Revocation only after Thorough Due Diligence: Individuals will face revocation of their
citizenship after a very thorough investigation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is controversial according to detractors of the law, as it denies naturalized Canadians their due
rights for a fair process. o Discretionary and sweeping powers The bill is considered extremely broad
as it allows the government to retract the citizenship of anyone who falls under one of the extensive
categories. For example, the bill does not define or differentiate between a person labelled as terrorist
with a criminal intent and someone who is a mere environmental activist. Constitutional Validity of
Law Challenged in Court: A lawsuit has been filed by Rocco Galati, a Toronto based lawyer, against
the Parliament and the Governor General. The law challenges that certain constitutional authorities
were surpassed in the process of approval for Bill C 24. First Revocation Case Underway: On July
2nd 2015, the first case for revocation of citizenship went underway against Hiva Alizadeh. He is an
Iranian born Canadian citizen suspected of terrorist activities and is currently being tried under the
new law. Name: Anam

The Life Of The Dry Hot Desert
The heat here was unbearable. The dry hot desert was slowly taking over all our land. Once the
beautiful plant we has was drying up. I have lived on this planet since the day I was born. I am
currently 102 years old, some people call me a wise, others call me Athena. Our planet was at
complete peace, everyone got along, we enjoyed each other s company, the land was beautiful, until
now. My fellow friends and I can t stand this planet any longer. We are of living here, were running
out of resources and we don t know how much longer we may survive. There had been talk of
explorations to find another solution to escape this terrible heat, but nothing came out of it. Rumors of
the some of our richest friends here were disappearing in bunkers built below the red ground and it
was gaining lots of attention. This was creating a chaos among the other aliens trying to survive. Many
even talked of a new planet far away that had lots of soil, water, and air with cool and warm
temperatures for everyone to live happily. But it all looked like now was a science fiction story. As I
stood on oxidized iron dust and rocks beneath my feet, I stared into the sky as questions pondered in
my head. Would there be planets like ours out there? With living aliens like us? With mountains and
rivers like we use to have? We have sent so many electronic messages across the universe for years
and have never received any response yet. In addition to the many coded

How To Write A Narrative Essay About American Culture
Languages of Another Assimilating into this melting pot that we call America may be a walk in the
park to some but to others, there is a high barrier that blocks the doorway like a security guard to the
trendiest club in Los Angeles. As easy as it may be for some to come up to the front of the line and
walk right through the red rope, there are others who are not as lucky. Most people much like you and
I, have to wait in a long line and pay their way through. Whether a native on this land or an immigrant
from another country, language is a very powerful tool required in order for one to be successful here
in America. There is a high price of hard work and determination that can pay the cost of making this
success a reality. I was born and raised as a Filipino American in a household full of Filipinos who
mainly spoke the Kapangpangan language. My parents were both born in the Philippines and when
they were in their 30 s, came to start a new life in Oakland, California. They worked double jobs with
long hours, so my sister and I were raised by our grandparents who also mainly spoke Kapangpangan.
Although we were always spoken to in this language, my sister and I never caught on to speaking the
language fluently. The background of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reality, full assimilation is not necessarily needed to succeed here in America, but instead, having a
diverse background and knowledge of another language actually has more benefits than not. There are
many more opportunities available for people who are multilingual because of the melting pot that
America is. The most beneficial thing that can come out of learning a new language whether it be
English, Spanish, Chinese or Kapangpangan, is being able to use that language as a platform to reach

The Parallels Of Japanese Internees And American Pows
The Parallels of Japanese Internees and American POWs War can be loud and visible or quiet and
remote. It affects the individual and entire societies, the soldier, and the civilian. Both U.S. prisoners
of war in Japan and Japanese American citizens in the United States during WWII undergo efforts to
make them invisible. Laura Hillenbrand s Unbroken hero, Louie Zamperini, like so many other
POWs, is imprisoned, beaten, and denied basic human rights in POW camps throughout Japan. Miné
Okubo, a U.S. citizen by birth, is removed from society and interned in a protective custody camp for
Japanese American citizens. She is one of the many Japanese Americans who were interned for the
duration of the war. Louie Zamperini, as a POW in Japan, and Miné Okubo, as a Japanese American
Internee both experience efforts to make them invisible through dehumanization and isolation in the
camps of WWII, and both resist these efforts. From a very early age, Louie Zamperini was a visible
young man. His charismatic/rebellious ways, and his athletic accomplishments continually put him in
the spotlight, but years in Japanese POWs camps slowly eroded his visibility. He, like so many others
in captivity, experienced efforts to make him invisible. During WWII, POWs were systematically
stripped of their dignity in the camps of Japan, and as Hillenbrand writes, without dignity, identity is
erased (189). Dehumanizing tactics by Japanese guards deny prisoners of their dignity and humanity.

Analysis Of Richard Rodriguez s Hunger Of Memory
An autobiography is completely unlike any other type of writing, and it is this style of book that
author Richard Rodriguez bravely chose to use in Hunger of Memory. Essentially, an autobiography is
a book documenting someone s life; full of their heartbeat and heartaches. Its raw authenticity is so
refreshing in comparison to complex literary texts full of hidden metaphors and complicated
symbolism. Through this sort of writing, Rodriguez provides an authentic, honest account of his life
while detailing how race played a role in it. In order to accomplish this, he examines specific aspects
of his life and reveals how his culture and skin color affected these areas. Throughout the text it is
obvious that the consequences of race are involved in every single part of people s lives, specifically
education, as revealed through the hidden curriculum, language, and religion involved in the
classroom. Schools are supposed to teach academic material, but they also teach students how to
function in society and fit in with the culture. In a sense, the classroom becomes a sort of miniature
community as the educator and students function in a way that reflects the real world outside of
classroom doors. Based upon this idea that schools resemble actual society, researchers have drawn
direct links between the quality of a school s climate and its educational outcomes (Jerald). This
phenomenon is called the hidden curriculum and refers to a range of things (attitudes,

Analyzing Kate Chopin s The Storm

ENG 102 02
30 September 2014
The Storm In the story, The Storm, Kate Chopin tells a reader about what had occurred during a storm
that passed by. The story goes into detail about two main characters, Alcee Laballiere and Calixta, and
the setting. Also, the other characters in the passage were Bibi, Bobinot, and Clarissa. The setting had
took place at store called Friedheimer s, and Calixta s house during a dark, stormy, and dreary day. In
addition, the story will explain about a relationship between Alcee Laballiere and Calixta in the past.
Even though Kate gets into detail of The Storm, she begins the story of Bobinot and Bibi at the
Friedheimer s store during the storm. They decided to stay at the store until the storm had passed. Bibi
is a four year old little boy, and he looked very clever. Also, Bobinot was Bibi s father. They were told
to go to Friedheimer s, a wooden store, to buy shrimp for their dinner. Bobinot explained that this
storm were somber clouds that developed in the west of part, along with a threatening roar of lighting
invading the area (Chopin, 335). While they were at Friedheimer s, they sat by the door on two empty
kegs. Bibi laid his little hand on his father s knee while they watch the storm to pass together (Chopin,

LDH release
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an oxidative enzyme that changes lactate into pyruvate during
glycolysis. LDH widely exists in cell membranes and cytoplasm, and is released from cells into
culture supernatants immediately after cell damage. Therefore, photospectrometrical assessment for
cell viability through the extracellular leakage of LDH can be applied for the antiviral evaluation of
compounds [20] .
The method using cell line and described previously. The LDH released from necrotic cells into the

Essay on Biography of St Thomas Becket
St Thomas Becket (December 21, 1118 December 29, 1170) was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162
to 1170. He engaged in a conflict with King Henry II over the rights and privileges of the Church and
was assassinated by followers of the king in Canterbury Cathedral.
Life before his consecration
Thomas Becket (also known as Thomas à Becket, although many people consider this incorrect)[1]
was born in London sometime between 1115 and 1120, though most authorities agree that he was born
December 21, 1118, at Cheapside, to Gilbert of Thierceville, Normandy, and Rosea or Matilda of
Caen. His parents were of the upper middle class near Rouen, and Thomas never knew hardship as a
child.

This created both a hardship and a resentment of Becket among the English Churchmen. To further
implicate Becket as a secular man, he became an accomplished and extravagant courtier and a
cheerful companion to the king s pleasures. Young Thomas was devoted to his master s interests with
such a firm and yet diplomatic thoroughness that scarcely anyone, except perhaps John of Salisbury,
doubted his allegiance to English royalty.
King Henry even sent his son Henry, later the Young King , to live in Becket s household, it being the
custom then for noble children to be fostered out to other noble houses. Later that would be one of the
reasons his son would turn against him, having formed an emotional attachment to Becket as a foster
father. Henry the Young King was reported to have said Becket showed him more fatherly love in a
day than his father did his entire life.
Archbishop Theobald died April 18, 1161, and the chapter learned with some indignation that the king
expected them to choose Thomas his successor. That election took place in May, and Thomas was
consecrated on June 3, 1162, in accordance with the king s wishes.

Strong parental disapproval of alcohol use was linked to lower rates of prescription drug misuse in
African American teens, while parental disapproval of marijuana use was a stronger factor for
Hispanic teens. Regardless, of the ethnic/racial background both parents and family members are
against misusing substances in general and play a strong role in protecting their adolescents from
misusing prescription medicine, whether it be alcohol, marijuana, or tobacco. This illustrates a
positive step in moving forward to understanding specific culture factors of substance abuse. Some
Caucasian teens having close friends that reject substance use have a lesser rates of prescription drug
misuse, though their peer opinions had little influence for African American or Hispanic teens. Parents
can help their adolescents navigate towards friends with shared substance use disapproval attitudes

evidence that disapproval by important socialization factors especially parents has a substantial effect
on prescription drug misuse. Those results offer indications how the racial/ethnic deviations are
arrived. Some past research of substance use in teens have mainly used race as a rational for observed
modifications.

Miles Davis And The Jazz Music
Throughout the years there have been several amazing composers and artists around the world and
Miles Davis is considered one of the finest in the jazz genre. As one of the greatest jazz musicians
ever, he instrumental in developing new forms of music such as jazz fusion. Like many famous
twentieth century composers and artists, Davis grappled throughout his career with drug abuse,
however, his music is still inspirational today and will impact and influence future generations and
push them to their creative boundaries. Miles Dewey Davis III was born in Alton, Illinois on 26 May
1926, and was raised in an upper middle class home in East St. Louis. His father was a dentist and
music teacher who introduced his son the trumpet at thirteen years old. Davis quickly developed a
talent for playing the trumpet under the private tutelage of Elwood Buchanan. Buchanan emphasized
playing the trumpet without vibrato, which was contrary to the common style used by trumpeters such
as Louis Armstrong, and which would come to influence and help develop the Miles Davis style.
While he was in high school Davis played his music professionally. When he was seventeen, Davis
was invited by Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker to join them to replace a sick member of their band.
In 1944 he followed Parker to New York where he enrolled in the Julliard school of music to study
classical music. While taking courses at Julliard, Davis and Parker began to play at Harlem nightclubs.

The Importance Of White People In To Kill A Mockingbird
In Harper Lee s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Cry about the hell white people give colored folks,
without even stopping to think that they re people, too (205). Dill is saying that because white people
don t have to do bad things and they can get away with stuff but black people they can be convicted of
something they never did and could be killed for it. This book is about how black people had to deal
with white people and how they survived through all of it.
First, To Kill a Mockingbird should not be banned because it needs to teach kids how the language
was used in 1930. In the book, Cecil talks about Atticus defending a black person, when white people
think Tom Robinson should be killed Atticus steps in to defend Tom, Cecil says, My folks said your
daddy was a disgrace an that nigger oughta hang from the water tank!
(Lee 77). This quote is significant because it is explaining how people said stuff back then because if
they didn t like something they would be very mean and say stuff about that person.
Saying racist words and chants, for example nigger where very bad in 1930 just because the
Great Depression was happening but also black people didn t have rights and that made white people
think they were better and they tried to rub it in by saying bad words and then a black person would
attack or defend themselves and they would get arrested and possibly get killed or get beat up.

Essay about The NRA Killed Gun Control Legislation
The NRA Killed Gun Control Legislation
By the year 2003, it is expected that firearms will cause the most injury related deaths in the United
States, surpassing even automobile accidents. Poll after poll have revealed that most Americans favor
stricter gun control laws. Five recent suburban school shootings have demonstrated that when guns
and kids mix, tragedy results. Yet gun control legislation remains at a standstill.
The battle for stricter gun control laws has not been without victories. In 1968, Congress passed the
Gun Control Act in the wake of the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr., President John F.

However, the thrill of the above victories could not prevent the agony of defeat that the country faced
between October 1997 and June 1998. There were five suburban school shootings in that time, in
Pearl Mississippi, West Paducah, Kentucky; Jonesboro, Arkansa;, Edinboro, Pennsylvania; and
Springfield, Oregon. This unspeakable violence left sixteen dead, including eleven children and
teenagers. The shooters ranged in age from 11 to 16 years old.
Although no one can explain the why of these tragedies, recent statistics give insight into the how : A
1990 Centers for Disease Control (CDC) survey found that one in twenty high school students had
carried a gun in the past month, while a 1994 Harris poll found that only one in five students would
tell a teacher if he or she knew that another student was bringing weapons to school. Where do these
kids get their guns? The Harris poll found that only 43% of parents of minors keep their guns safely
locked, which means that an estimated 1.2 million latchkey elementary school students can access the
guns kept in their houses. The consequences of the latter statistic were brutally obvious in Jonesboro,
when sixth grader Andrew Golden and eighth grader Mitchell Johnson opened fire on a crowd of
students with guns taken from a glass

External, Internal, and Construct Validity Essay
Validity pertains to both the methods and the design of a research study and indicates the degree with
which correct inferences can be made from the results of a research study (Indiana University Of
Pennsylvania, 2010). According to Trochim and Donnelly, there are four types of validity including
conclusion, internal, construct, and external (2008). In this assignment, three of these types will be
discussed. Internal validity is the extent to which a test measures what it claims to measure. External
validity on the other hand, is the extent to which the results of a research study can be generalized to
other groups, other times, and other settings. Construct validity demonstrates an association between
results and the prediction of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instrumentation is concerned a lack of consistency in the measuring instrument that could account for
invalid results of a research study. This threat is most likely to occur when two different forms are
used for the pre and post tests or if the instrument is constructed poorly. (Creswell, 2009).
Mortality can occur if research participants drop out of the study before completion. This problem is
more likely to occur if participants are volunteers or if the sample group is too small (Creswell, 2009).
Statistical regression is the tendency of participants who score high on a pretest to score lower (or
closer to the mean) on the posttest and consequently, participants who score low on a pretest tend to
score higher on the posttest. This regression may significantly influence the distribution of scores.
Finally, differential selection can occur if already formed groups are used in a study as the groups may
have had existing differences from the beginning. For example, the subjects in each group may have
extreme age differences or educational backgrounds. As a result, any differences found at the posttest
may be due to these differential selection differences rather than being due to the independent
variable. External validity is the degree to which the results of a research study can be generalized to
and across other populations, settings, times and tasks. The threats to external validity compromise a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Patio
There are many different options out there to create outdoor usable. The majority of homeowners
recognizes and have difficulty in deciding between either a deck or a patio. Patio and deck terms often
are used interchangeably. In reality, the differences between the two are quite apparent.
A patio is an outdoor space sited directly on the ground and may be linked to the house or built in a
separate part of the yard. Patios often have concrete bases, and some homeowners utilize stone, tile,
pavers, brick or other materials to build the foundation. In most cases patios do not include a rail; they
may or may not be sheltered. Today s patios have party goodies like fire pits, built in barbeques, and
sitting areas, making them the wonderful relaxation or socialisation space. Source: diynetwork.com

Installation is also a big benefit for choosing a deck. The way a deck is built allows more creativity in

big slopes can be easily overcome without adding significant expenses.
Traditionally, the lifespan of a wood structure is about seven eight years if it s not cared for. This
average is getting longer with more options coming into the market like composites and all weather

Remodeling Magazine (2014) released a study that the return on investment for a wood deck is 87

Environmental Impact Of Automobiles
The environmental impact of automobiles is becoming a major topic for the manufacturers. New
regulations have been created in order to enforce manufacturers to make automobiles that cause less of
an impact. These regulations resulted in an increased price for the manufacturers and the consumers.
The strict standards have resulted in higher priced automobiles than one would expect (Furth, 2016).
With the enhancements made in technology, one would expect the price of automobiles to decrease,
yet this is not the case due to the impact of the regulations. The Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) states that automobiles made after 2009 will have a higher price than previous automobiles
because of the new regulations that were put in place (Furth, 2016). However, this belief has led to
conflicts between academic critics and the EPA (Furth, 2016). Further research is required to
determine if the higher costs of automobiles is solely caused by the regulations that are being imposed
or if there is another cause. Either way, the price of automobiles has increased in the last several years
and this can be problematic for any company in the automobile industry, but especially for newer
competitors like Tesla.
The price of fuel is one reason why consumers are considering purchasing a smaller and more
environmentally friendly car. According to a Consumer Reports Survey, fuel economy was the main
consideration in purchasing a new automobiles to 37% of those surveyed (Consumers

  • 2. The Importance Of A Formal Diagnosis Of Bdd Data Collection The first step in my data collection will be to recruit participants. Because my study aspires to get to the lived experience of what it is like to live with BDD, I need to choose participants who have experienced, or are currently experiencing, this phenomenon. This will require I utilize criterion based sampling, meaning the population sample will have characteristics relevant to my research question (Creswell, 2012). Therefore, my task will be to find and select participants who will be chosen on the basis of a formal diagnosis of BDD, as confirmed through their diagnosing clinician. In order to do so, I will place advertisements on relevant social media sites, BDD Internet support group websites, as well as other fitting locations I discover during my process. Prior to placing said ads, I will be sure to obtain any necessary approval in order to adhere to ethical standards. Once the prospective participants express interest, I will electronically send an invitation to participate, which will include an introduction to the research, as well as consent and contact sheets. When participants agree to participate, paper copies will be mailed to them. After receipt of signed consent and contact forms, I will contact the clinicians designated on the consent forms in order to obtain a confirmation of the participants BDD diagnosis prior to beginning. In regard to sample size, I cannot predict the exact amount of participants I will need for my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They help me with all my situations. I know I can trust them to help me and when they help me I learn something from them that will also help me another time.. One reason why my cheer squad is important to me is they help stick up for me. This is important to me because I have a good feeling inside of me knowing someone will help me when I need it.When they saw I was being bullied they knew I couldn t handle it so they stuck up for me.They told the bully that it is not nice to pick on people because it will make the person hurt inside. When my cheer team helped me with this problem they taught me to not let anyone bother you because they are just jealous. • 4. Epiphanies in Joyce s Dubliners and Chaucer s Canterbury... James Joyce s Dubliners is a compilation of stories that all rely on character epiphanies in order to develop each story. These epiphanies change the tone of each story because each yields a negative change or reaction. In both Araby and The Dead , the characters realize or learn something about the world around them, which makes them second guess either themselves or the reason behind their actions. Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales contains at least one tale that relies on an epiphany to help develop theme but it doesn t change the tone or course of the story, it just helps to portray the true meaning of the character. The Pardoner becomes a deeper character because of his epiphany, which is what makes it important to the rest of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another factor that could possibly have helped to cause the Pardoner s epiphany is the pilgrimage, he feels the need to repent for all his hypocrisy and scams so his soul doesn t go a blackberrying (pg 511, ll 78) when he dies. The Pardoner s epiphany doesn t change the course or the tone of the tale in itself, because he continues to act the way he usually does in regards to his relics and pardons. However, at the end of the tale the way he acts towards the travelers is just a cover of how he is truly feeling. The situation is different in Joyce s Dubliners. Each story involves an epiphany that causes the character to have a negative outlook on life. It changes the tone of the story completely. For example, in Araby a young boy has a negative experience at a bazaar, which alters his view of the world. He just wanted to impress an older girl that he loved because she couldn t go to Araby at all. He was so excited and mesmerized by the thought of the bazaar and possibly even winning the girl s love, that even the syllables of the word Araby were called to me through the silence in which my soul luxuriated and cast an Eastern enchantment over me (pg 17). However, the atmosphere of Araby was the exact opposite of what the boy had been imagining because it wasn t exotic at all. Plus, it was dark and empty because he arrived around ... Computational Advances Of Big Data In 2013 the overall created and copied data volume in the world was 4.4 ZB and it is doubling in size every two years and, by 2020 the digital universe the data we create and copy annually will reach 44 ZB, or 44 trillion gigabytes [1]. Under the massive increase of global digital data, Big Data term is mainly used to describe large scale datasets. Big data is high volume, high velocity and high variety information assets that demand cost effective, innovative forms of information processing for enhanced insight and decision making [2]. Volume of Big Data represents the magnitude of data while variety refers to the heterogeneity of the data. Computational advances create a chance to use various types of structured, semi structured, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since big data includes large amount of inconsistent, incomplete, and noisy data, a number of data preprocessing techniques, including data cleaning, data integration, data transformation and data reduction, can be applied to remove noise and correct inconsistencies [5]. A good amount of feature selection algorithms of different models have been developed for multiple fields. Although existing statistical feature selection methods are useful for normal sized datasets, they may fall short in feture selection in Big Data due to noise, heterogeneity, and large volume. They become inefficient in extracting the complex and non linear patterns generally observed in this kind of data. On the other hand, the hierarchial structure of Deep Learning techniques allow them to effectively select and extract meaningful features from Big Data. Some approaches have been tried for learning and extracting features from unlabeled image data, include Restricted Boltzmann Machines (RBMs) [6], autoencoders [7], and sparse coding [8] for different fields including image detection. But most of these techniques were only able to extract low level features. Hence, to avoid pitfalls and overcome the challenges, developing and employing computationally efficient algorithms carries high importance. Furthermore, most of the proposed feature selection algorithms use batch learning which conducts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Rising Concern For United States Citizens Cybercrimes: A Rising Concern for United States Citizens How would someone like to go shopping this holiday season and go to checkout just to find out that your credit/debit card are being declined? As they begin to investigate, they start to realize that the problem is much more than they expected because their identity and personal information was stolen. Cybercrimes have become a main concern for the United States. Therefore, cybersecurity should be one of the main concerns of security in this day and age. First and foremost, it is important readers know who Granatstein is because it will explain why he writes so passionately about Canadian history. Granatstein is one of the most recognized Canadian historians and authors, who have written an impressive total of 45 books. Along with writing many books regarding Canada, he has won many awards in regards to his work such as the UBC Medal for Canadian Biography, the J. B. Instead, he addressed the various individuals in Canada that were not providing a fair education in its national and political history as well as for the reasons why this is such a big deal. This book was educational as it gave readers brief and sometimes precise examples, like how Canadians lack national and political conscience within the academic curriculum. The Country s educational system needs to do a better job training its educators and ultimately restructuring curriculums to deal with our current problems. The book s exterior appearance is bright red, and often red, is associated with power. I believe that this book has the authority to make readers think about their experience concerning Canadian history but unfortunately, a majority of the population does not know enough of its history to learn from the mistakes and successes of our predecessors. Along with the strengths of this book (argumentative perspective, educational, and exterior appearance), there were a few weaknesses as well. To elaborate on Granasteins effort, I believe he wrote from an androcentric perspective. There were times when he sounded like a grumpy old historian man. I think his little rants reduced the effectiveness of the book. He made many prejudice remarks concerning multiculturalism and social history (gender studies, urban, economics, demographics, etc.). Since history is an accumulation of time periods and each period varies in length, and the intensity of the events, it might be tough to establish the nation s needs for clear, measurable standards for history. Although most people have heard of the American dream, if you were to ask a couple people what the phrase means to them, there would probably be very different responses. With all the various interpretations of the American dream out there, it has probably become somewhat difficult to truly understand the meaning behind the phrase. However, no film better portrays what the American dream is than Gran Torino. Essentially, an autobiography is a book documenting someone s life; full of their heartbeat and heartaches. Its raw authenticity is so refreshing in comparison to complex literary texts full of hidden metaphors and complicated symbolism. Through this sort of writing, Rodriguez provides an authentic, honest account of his life while detailing how race played a role in it. In order to accomplish this, he examines specific aspects of his life and reveals how his culture and skin color affected these areas. Throughout the text it is obvious that the consequences of race are involved in every single part of people s lives, specifically education, as revealed through the hidden curriculum, language, and religion involved in the classroom. Schools are supposed to teach academic material, but they also teach students how to function in society and fit in with the culture. In a sense, the classroom becomes a sort of miniature community as the educator and students function in a way that reflects the real world outside of classroom doors. Based upon this idea that schools resemble actual society, researchers have drawn direct links between the quality of a school s climate and its educational outcomes (Jerald). This phenomenon is called the hidden curriculum and refers to a range of things (attitudes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Life before his consecration Thomas Becket (also known as Thomas à Becket, although many people consider this incorrect)[1] was born in London sometime between 1115 and 1120, though most authorities agree that he was born December 21, 1118, at Cheapside, to Gilbert of Thierceville, Normandy, and Rosea or Matilda of Caen. King Henry even sent his son Henry, later the Young King , to live in Becket s household, it being the custom then for noble children to be fostered out to other noble houses. Later that would be one of the reasons his son would turn against him, having formed an emotional attachment to Becket as a foster father. • 36. External, Internal, and Construct Validity Essay Validity pertains to both the methods and the design of a research study and indicates the degree with which correct inferences can be made from the results of a research study (Indiana University Of Pennsylvania, 2010). According to Trochim and Donnelly, there are four types of validity including conclusion, internal, construct, and external (2008). In this assignment, three of these types will be discussed. Internal validity is the extent to which a test measures what it claims to measure. External validity on the other hand, is the extent to which the results of a research study can be generalized to other groups, other times, and other settings. Construct validity demonstrates an association between results and the prediction of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instrumentation is concerned a lack of consistency in the measuring instrument that could account for invalid results of a research study. This threat is most likely to occur when two different forms are used for the pre and post tests or if the instrument is constructed poorly. (Creswell, 2009). Mortality can occur if research participants drop out of the study before completion. This problem is more likely to occur if participants are volunteers or if the sample group is too small (Creswell, 2009). Statistical regression is the tendency of participants who score high on a pretest to score lower (or closer to the mean) on the posttest and consequently, participants who score low on a pretest tend to score higher on the posttest. This regression may significantly influence the distribution of scores. Finally, differential selection can occur if already formed groups are used in a study as the groups may have had existing differences from the beginning. For example, the subjects in each group may have extreme age differences or educational backgrounds. As a result, any differences found at the posttest may be due to these differential selection differences rather than being due to the independent variable. External validity is the degree to which the results of a research study can be generalized to and across other populations, settings, times and tasks. New regulations have been created in order to enforce manufacturers to make automobiles that cause less of an impact. These regulations resulted in an increased price for the manufacturers and the consumers. The strict standards have resulted in higher priced automobiles than one would expect (Furth, 2016). With the enhancements made in technology, one would expect the price of automobiles to decrease, yet this is not the case due to the impact of the regulations. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that automobiles made after 2009 will have a higher price than previous automobiles because of the new regulations that were put in place (Furth, 2016). However, this belief has led to conflicts between academic critics and the EPA (Furth, 2016). Further research is required to determine if the higher costs of automobiles is solely caused by the regulations that are being imposed or if there is another cause. Either way, the price of automobiles has increased in the last several years and this can be problematic for any company in the automobile industry, but especially for newer competitors like Tesla.
