The Challenges Of Being An International Student
INTRODUCTION
A challenge is being a student, a bigger one challenge is being an international student. I believe that
in my home country student life is easy, but being an international student that is a student of a
different country can be hard. When I was 18 years old I landed to London .It s been nine months now
and I faced some tough experiences which I will remember throughout my life. The challenges which
I have faced that most international student will experience. For all those who are planning to study in
London, I would like to share some challenges that the student might have to face and suggest ways to
tackle them.
More specific challenges are encountered by international students compared to domestic students

Speaking English as a second language in front of others can prove to be anxiety provoking and when
an international student develops this kind of fear they limit their ability to participate in discussions
of class and develop a social relationship. For entry of international student in universities would
normally consist of a TOEFL or IELTS score. However, even when the entry level requirement is
fulfilled by students, they are not acquainted with the terminology that is technical for a subject area
specialist. Difficult time is faced by international students while reading because of lack of familiarity
with English vocabulary, a weak understanding of complex syntax, lack of background knowledge in
a subject and lack of equivalent words between English and their native language (Mertin, 2013).
Criteria of language which is the only thing achieved by the students, studying in English, especially
at the level of master s, can result stressful and onerous. The language entry requirement which is pass
by the international students and the independent study was problematic for the international students
required at a very early stage of the

The Evolution Of Human Origins
Initial ideas of human origins are reflected in the ancient mythologies. Later on, religious versions of
human origins appeared. One of the most popular religious theory is creationism. According to it God
had created men and everything else in the world. There are two types of creationism, young earth
creationism and old earth creationism . Ancient philosophy first proposed ideas of the natural origins
of men. Most of its ideas were speculative. It was the product of the ancient philosophers`
imagination, but not a result of researching of objective data. Next Charles Darwin offered the Theory
of Evolution. Until now this theory is the one of the best substantiated theories in the history of
science, supported by evidence from a wide variety of scientific disciplines, including paleontology,
geology, genetics and developmental biology. His theory explains how unguided, natural mechanism
could structure all the processes in the world, while operating in accordance to the laws of nature .
Despite the wealth of evidence from the fossil record, genetics and other fields of science, some
people denounce the theory, invoking a higher being as a designer to explain the complex world of
living things, especially humans. School boards debate whether the theory of evolution should be
taught alongside other ideas, such as creationism. Mainstream scientists see no controversy. Today a
lot of people have deep religious beliefs and also accept evolution . There is also a theory of

Essay on Effects of Gay Rights in America
You robbed me of something very precious and I will never forgive you for that. Mr. McKinney, I give
you life in the memory of one who no longer lives. May you have a long life and may you thank
Matthew every day for it. Those were the words said by Dennis Shepard at the sentencing of Aaron
McKinney, one of the men who tortured, robbed, and murdered his son Matthew Shepard. He was
given a life sentence. States must inflict a harsher punishment for people who commit gay violence
crimes because over the years hate crimes based on sexual orientation have become the third highest
category reported.

an act to be committed. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

sexuality had rose 16.7 percent (HRC 6). Research done by the Human Rights Campaign showed that
Arkansas, Indiana, South Carolina and Wyoming do not have laws protecting homosexuals in any
way. In 2003, the Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Act was introduced to congress. The bill
would give local law enforcement officials the resources they need to fight hate crimes based on actual
or perceived sexual orientation, gender or disability. Senator Gordon Smith, a sponsor for the bill said:
A government s first duty is to protect and defend its citizens. Our laws should do that by reflecting
our highest values, not by sheltering our lowest fears. ... Over the past several years, Americans have
been listening with their hearts, not just their ears, and they are ready for a hate crimes bill.
The Human Rights Campaign is still lobbying Congress to pass the bill.

man who repeatedly killed homosexual men. The court ruled that prosecutors should not have

symptoms faster. Brief psychotherapies emphasize precise observation, utilization of natural resources
of the client and a temporary supervision of disbelief to consider new perspective and multiple

What Is The Theme Of The Guest By Albert Camus
The Guest by Albert Camus The Guest is a short story written by Albert Camus and first published as
a part of the collection Exile and the Kingdom in 1957. The main character of the story is a teacher in
a remote school Daru. The man was alone because of the snowfall, until gendarme Balducci with the
apprehended Arabic person appeared. Daru was asked to take prisoner to a nearby town Tinguit where
he would be tried for relative s murder. The teacher did not want to take part in these events, but
Balducci still left Arab in the school. Daru did not treat the man like a prisoner. In the morning he took
Arab outside, gave him money with food, explained how to reach Tinguit or nomads and gave him an
opportunity to choose his own fate. The teacher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Daru informed the Arab about existed choices and did not try to show him that one of them would be
more honorable than the other .However, the teacher wished the man to stay away from French
officials. Daru with heavy heart made out the Arab walking slowly on the road to prison (Camus 11).
Words with heavy heart highlighted the man wanted Arab to choose the road to nomads. The sentence
could show that Daru was more on Algerian than the French side in the conflict in spite of his
pursuance of neutrality. Teacher s attitude was highlighted by the Arab s behavior. Daru treated
apprehended man as a guest, not a prisoner, but the man could deny his hospitality or even kill the
teacher as a roadblock on the way to freedom. However, the Arab did not hurt Daru, accepted his food
and beverages. This behavior can be treated as a sign of political solidarity, the food symbolizing the
exchange of life between them (Bernardo). Arab s decision to go to the police headquarters in Tinguit,
and the fact he did not try to hurt Daru, showed the man was not really a bad person; and the murder
he committed could be a result of emotions or misunderstanding. These suggestions make readers to
support Daru s decision to give the Arab an opportunity to choose his fate by himself, and not make a
man a subject of a travesty of a trial (Bernardo). While the teacher did not want to have an impact on
people s fate, his

Meridian Hawk Descriptive Writing
Autumn Durbin We Are Meridian There are many things that make up being a Meridian Hawk. You
can t just expect to be a Hawk after just a few days. Everybody needs experience of how this school
district is special and different from the others. There are many reasons for being proud of this school.
All of the teachers are greatly understanding to where they make learning fun, the school field trips
are amazing ( we are very grateful), and I am delighted about this new building that they made for us.
I feel special because it s as if someone cares about all of the students. Any other school isn t as
different as this one. Things at Meridian are rare and we are remarkably lucky to have a great place to
learn. Every school you go to, you leave a part of your life to stay there forever. You are always going
to be a Bobcat or a Tornado or something else. Like Ms. Deckard, you can be multiple things. Well, I
happen to be something that I am very proud of. I am proud to be a Meridian Hawk! There are many
things at this school that makes it worth enrolling into. I am ecstatic to have attended Meridian my

didn t give enough money for the trips. They appear to be more than $2,000 for just one trip. One day,
I hope to be able to take my child on a Washington D.C. trip from Meridian Middle School. The
faculty here is protective of us. When I go on a field trips, I want to be able to know immediately that

Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises
The post WWI political and societal climate produced a steep increase in the number of American
expatriates in Europe. These expatriates were disillusioned by the horrors that they witnessed during
wartime. Romantic ideals became obsolete, and traditional values of love and happiness faded with
them. The effects of this disillusionment can be seen in Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises, a
novel that revolves around the relationships and characters of a group of expatriates on vacation in
Spain for the Running of the Bulls Festival. Of these characters, only one still subscribes to prewar
values: Robert Cohn. Robert Cohn did not fight in the war, unlike the others in the group, but he lost
most of his inheritance, his wife, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and disappointment of having a rotten time ... in college and not be[ing] everything to his first wife
(Hemingway 16). These books range from travel guides on South America to romantic love stories
like The Purple Land which, according to Jake, is a very sinister book if read too late in life due to its
splendid imaginary amorous contents (17). This observation tells the reader about Cohn s mindset, as
well as Jake s. Due to the personal nature of Cohn s failures resulting in his losses, Cohn still has a
sense of optimism and romanticism that he explores through reading books like The Purple Land as
they provide him with inspiration for ways to better his life and his character. Jake, however, believes
that Cohn s obsession with The Purple Land is naive. Jake believes that his war induced impotence
has destroyed his love life, leading him to conclude that The Purple Land portrays an inaccurate
representation of love. Jake has lost all hope for himself, and this mindset proves it. One night, after
looking at himself naked in the mirror, Jake started to cry after getting lost in his thoughts, revealing
how hopeless he believes his situation is and how he still cannot fully come to terms with his
condition (38 39). Due

Letter From Birmingham Jail And Nonviolent Protests Essay
Letter from Birmingham jail and Nonviolent Protests
In Martin Luther King Jr s Letter from Birmingham jail , King talks about his imprisonment for his
involvement in a nonviolent protest and defends his rights and moral grounds for organizing
nonviolent protest activities. In this essay, I will look at his views on nonviolent protest and how they
differ from todays violent protests. To understand King s views on nonviolent protest, I will start by
summarizing some of the main points in his Letter from Birmingham jail . In spite of the fact that the
Letter is verifiably worried with justice all through, King likewise addresses the question specifically
at a few focuses. In actuality, he places that justice maintains the poise of the human soul, while
injustice conflicts with it. By talking about this idea by and large, he builds up criteria by which to
obscurely assault both segregation and silence it. He at last suggests that the man who sees injustice
and does nothing to stop it is acting unjustly also. Taking after this thought, he contends that laws must
be permeated with an ethical sense so as to be just; as such, law and morality can not be viewed as
independent interests or areas. The best way to really enact change and help humankind rise above its
confinements is to act with as well as grasp extremism . According to Mott, That this action had been
termed extreme King admits initially disappointed him. But King decides that if loyalty to good
principles

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Carbohydrates
Do you know that foods high in fat and calories can leave you feeling fatigued, since they require
more energy to digest? To stay alert all day, start by making smarter choices about what you are using
to fuel your body. I have written the 12 power foods that will give a powerful boost to your daily diet.
Carbohydrates: Carbs have gotten a bad reputation in recent years, but before you swear off bread for
life, it is important to note that not all carbohydrates are created equal. Carbohydrates offer fuel to the
body in the form of glucose, which is the best energy source for the brain and central nervous system
two vital body systems. A diet rich in whole grains and complex carbohydrates is necessary for
energy; find these in fruits and vegetables such as sweet potatoes and foods made with whole wheat.

and loaded with beta carotene (vitamin A) and vitamin C, these will help fight off midday fatigue.
Bonus: Kids will love this sweet treat at mealtime. Try them mashed or cut into strips, tossed with a
little oil and baked for a healthier alternative to French fries. Honey: A spoonful of honey is nature s
equivalent of an energy drink. Low on the glycemic index, this natural sweetener acts as a time
released muscle fuel during exercise and helps replenish muscles post workout. Add a sweet drizzle to
anything from breakfast yogurt to afternoon tea. Fruits Fruit offers a significant dose of glucose,
which your body can easily metabolize into energy. Most fruits can be digested in under half an hour,

Mayan Farming Techniques
Most Ancient Mayans were farmers and are famous for the farming techniques they developed. These
techniques were so popular among the Mayans that they are still used in their communities today, over
two thousand year later. Most of these ancient communities had a communal farm for the elderly,
widowers, and sick people. The different families took turns working these plots to help the less
fortunate. Each family group had its own plot or plots of land that they farmed for their own family
unit. The Mayans divided roles between the men and women. The men were hunters. The women
worked the farm, cooked the food, raised the children, took care of the animals, and wove the families

In those areas where there was not an abundance of farm land, the Mayans had to be resourceful. They
would build stone walls on terraces in the mountainous region to level out the ground for planting.
They had to put a lot of thought into the way they built these terraces so that there was not a loss of
crops due to water run off and erosion. Many times there were canals close by these terraces to help
irrigate the crops. These terraces allowed the Mayan s to do something called Multi cropping. This is
the practice of planting and harvesting a plot of land multiple times a year. With canals and dams
around these terraces the Mayans had water in these areas year round allowing them to farm year

Different Stages Of The Grieving Process
People handle death in many different ways. People s culture, age and gender all have an important
impact on how they will cope with the death of a loved one. It s important for nurses to understand all
aspects that play into how someone deals with death so they can better help provide the correct care
and support. This paper will explain what grief is and the different stages of the grieving process, how
children, being male or female, and diverse cultures cope with death, and how nurses can better
support people depending on these groups.
Bereavement is the time when people grief and mourn after a person has died. Grief is an emotion that

Bereavement, and Coping With Loss, 2009). These emotions can also come in spurts, and a person
may not always experience them at one given time (Grief, Bereavement, and Coping With Loss,
2009). A lot of the time grief is described in a staging process. Many people are familiar with Kubler
Ross s five stages of the dying process, which comprises of: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and
acceptance (Leming Dickinson, 2016). Like Kubler Ross s five stages of the dying process, Robert
Kavanaugh also came up with different behaviors and feelings that are associated with the coping
process (Leming Dickinson, 2016). Kavanaugh s seven stages consist of: shock and denial,
disorganization, volatile reactions, guilt, loss and loneliness, relief, and reestablishment (Leming
Dickinson, 2016). Not all people with move through the stages in the same fashion (Leming
Dickinson, 2016). Grieving can also become complicated grief and that happens when the normal
emotions of grieving never go away and it disrupts the person from participating in their normal daily
life ((Smith Segal, n.d.)
). Many factors can increase the chance of complicated grief occurring such as:

Guantanamo Bay and Human Rights Violations by the United...
Introduction Guantanamo Bay, Cuba is originally a naval base that was once used to house detention
facilities for Haitian and Cuban refugees fleeing to the United States. It was also used as a refueling
station for Navy ships. It was then converted into a high level detention facility to house enemy troops
captured in the War on Terror campaign by Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfield. It has three main
camps that house the prisoners. These prisoners of war were later referred to as enemy combatants.
They were excluded from the prisoner of war statutes of the Geneva Convention because of their
involvement in a foreign terrorist organization and therefore earning themselves the title of terrorists.
The Guantanamo Bay Detention Center served as the perfect location to send these terrorists. It
allowed the United States to strip them of any due process or protection that is provided by US law.
Due to its location, being in foreign territory they are only subjected to military law. They are close

TJX Data Breach Analysis
One of the first data breaches that personally affected me was the TJX data breach that happened in
2005 2006. At the time I was both an employee and shopper for the brand. The breach happened due
to using a weak Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) protocol instead of the stronger Wi Fi Protected
Access (WAP) protocol , not being up to date on PCI (payment card industry) compliance, and overall
behind in security controls (Patrizio, 2007). TJX also did not have the technology in place to flag and
monitor suspicious activity. This breach resulted in over 45 million credit and debit cards being
compromised (Vijayan, 2007).

breach was similar with TJX ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This breach trumped both the TJX and Target numbers combined! It affected up to 143 million
Americans (Yurieff, 2017). This breach was slightly different as it exposed not only credit card
information, but also sensitive information, such as social security numbers, addresses, birth dates,
and driver license numbers (Yurieff, 2017). According to the article in CNN News (Yurieff, 2017),
Equifax said criminals exploited a U.S. website application vulnerability to gain access to certain files.
As stated above, all examples share in one of the types of information compromised, which was credit
card information. All three had vulnerabilities in I.T. security, TJX and Equifax with not having the
necessary controls in place and Target in not have the proper people in place making decisions and/or
incident reporting guidelines.
Many lessons can be learned from these breaches. First of all, the foundations of security need to be in
place and reviewed very often to keep relevant in today s ever changing electronic world. Secondly,
the people in charge need to understand the importance of their position and should be held
accountable for any personal liabilities they may cause for the company through improper or
inadequate performance or reporting. Another lesson is that the cost of prevention is worth so much
more than the costs of dealing with the consequences. Each one of these examples have resulted in

The Gospel Of John And Mark
Position Paper 2: Jesus in the Gospel of John and Mark
All of the Gospels describe the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, but each author illustrates the
stories differently. Scholars believe Mark is the first Gospel written and is symbolized by a lion to
denote Christ as powerful and fast paced. The Book of John, understood to be the last gospel
composed, is perceived as an eagle because the story differs greatly and is often more developed than
the other Gospels. Comparing John 2 to the Gospel of Mark will depict unique themes and
characteristics of Jesus. Jesus performs many miracles throughout the Gospels. Comparing how he
presents these wonders among different books can help display the author s themes and goals in these
Gospels. Jesus first miracle, turning water into wine, is only mentioned in the book of John. This story
is called The Wedding at Cana (John 2:1 12). Jesus and his disciples attend a wedding and Jesus
mother is concerned that there is no wine left. He asks the servants to fill their jars with water, but
when the steward tasted the water it had become wine. Another interesting miracle story is Jesus
walking on water (Mark 6:45 52). In this story, Jesus disciples leave on a boat, while he stays back to
pray. He then walks on water towards their boat, and the disciples were afraid when they saw him.
Each of these stories involve water and display Jesus great power, but their differences are even more
significant. John s story

Wastewater In Canada
Montreal plans to shut down a pipe, which feeds water from the sewers into a treatment plant.
Therefore the city s strategy is to dump the eight billion liters of raw sewage into the St Lawrence
River [1]. The procedure is going against the fisheries act, it will have negative consequences for
communities downstream, and it will also damage the river s ecosystem. In brief that scheme has
several negative impacts on the river s ecosystem and the city should invest in alternative procedures.
The procedure of dumping mass amounts of wastewater into the river is going against the fisheries act
if not given authorization [3]. Environment Canada is researching the implications of the plan and

Dr. Grant Brow who is a Concordia University biologist that specializes in aquatic behavioral and
chemical ecology, claims, The untreated effluent could cause harm to a number of aquatic species [2].
The fish rely on chemical cues to help it survive, such as finding food, shelter, detecting and avoiding
predators. On the other hand, the city s spokesman Philippe Sabourin, says that the contamination is
not a big concern due to the sheer size of the river and how quickly it flows at a rate of 6,000 to 7,000
cubic meters a second, compared to the flow rate of the wastewater, expected to be 13 cubic meters a
second [2]. However, it would be devastating if the city proceeds with their plan since the chemical
and bacteriological mixture of wastewater must be observed at all times to ensure public health. In
wastewater there are oxygen consuming materials, which needs to be minimized to protect from low
dissolved oxygen conditions since it can be harmful to aquatic species [4]. Many nutrients found in
wastewater, such as nitrogen and phosphorus must be removed to prevent high level of nutrients,
which can cause the ecosystem to have hypoxia and the increase of pollutants in the waterways [4].
The city has examined alternative methods, and the mayor claims that, They have consulted with
experts around the world and that every option has been explored [5]. The city has probe to put in
mobile tanks or installing a $1 billion diversion system to collect the raw sewage and send it to the
treatment plant, which would be safer and more ethical

Dear Olivia s Letter
Dear Olivia is a detailed reminisce of a girl who was bullied until she became reclusive and wanted no
contact with other people. She was sent many letters as well as e mails to attempt to cheer her up and
get her back into the outside world. Later, with the help of her mother, she created a book with said
letters as well as her reactions to them. Some of the bullying that was described in the letters seemed a
bit unrealistic at times; the parent letter from Maggie was the most unrealistic considering the
circumstances. If something like throwing food happened often, then the supervisors should have done
something, or it should have been detailed that it is not allowed in the school rules. It should not have

When the giant wakes up sick with a terrible cold, he turns to his Giant s Home Medical Guide to help
him feel better. The recommendation from the guide is a warm bowl of Boy Soup. Catching the boys
is easy, but what he doesn t count on is catching Kate as well, who is accidentally kidnapped along
with the boys. Our hero Kate convinces Giant that what the guide really means is a soup made by
boys, not a soup made with boys in it. Kate and the boys then proceed to make a particularly nasty

Asks critical thinking questions. What examples can you find in the story that show the giant as being
sick? When the giant woke up he was holding his head. He then coughed and everything on him
ached. He had a red nose and red tired eyes.
9. Ask creative thinking questions. What might have happened if there were only girls in the tree?
What may have happened if the giant liked the taste of the soup? This is hard to answer as the there
could be so many creative answers from the students. I would focus on the students staying on topic
and close to the actual theme of the story.
10. Have students verify their predictions. Before we began reading the story, we made some
predictions on what the story was about. Who got their predictions correct? Excellent! You were able
to look at the information of the title and the picture and predict what the story was about. Who didn t
predict the same as the story? What was different in your prediction? For the students who share the
prediction that was different from the story, have them compare with the class why their prediction
was different.
11. Have students find evidence from the material to support their answers. Let s look at the front

Theory of the Four Yugas Lasting four million three hundred twenty thousand years, are four ages
known as Yugas. The ancients understood time as a circle, not linear. Each age has distinct themes and
spiritual lessons. According to the Hinduism scriptures, all mortal beings are destined to pass through
four great epochs in every cycle of creation and destruction. The world has already been through the
first three and is currently passing through the fourth Yuga. It is believed that the world will end in a
great conflagration after the last Yuga. To some, this appears too unrealistic to be true for the rational

The people had all fallen prey to delusion and all pious acts had been swallowed by greed.
Scientists have predicted that by the end of this Yuga people will hardly be older than twenty years
and their only food will be meat. It s depressing to say that our society s actions are progressively
getting worse as we continue to live during each age. It s freighting to think of what is going to happen
in the future.
According to Hinduism.stackexchange.com, one cycle of all four Yugas is called a Maha Yuga, and
one thousand Maha Yugas make up one Kalpa. A Kalpa constitutes just one day of Brahma, the creator
god. After the day is over, Brahma goes to sleep, and then the night of Brahma commences. This night
is the time period when the physical universe, along heavens and hells are destroyed by fire emanating
from the mouth of Vishnu s serpent Adiseshan. Adiseshan is said to hold all the planets of the universe
on his hoods and to constantly sing the glories of the God Vishnu from all his mouths. It is believe that
after the disaster that Lord Brahma would recreate the universe and mankind will live once again.

Frederick Douglass Disobedience
This quote sparks interest due to disobedience often containing a negative connotation. However, in
this quote disobedience is honorable, and to be called disobedient is a compliment. According to
Wilde, disobedience is beneficial and without it social progress could not be made. Without
disobedience, society is unable to change or improve from past mistakes. Without rebellion or
disobedience, what will promote people to act on their injustices? Rebellion and disobedience are
beneficial in promoting social progress. Through it, citizens are able to bring issues and injustices they
want acknowledged to the forefront. Through these ways, they try to make the world a better place for
everyone and to bring people to the realization as to why the issues that they face are at fault and that
they should be restored. In relation to the novel, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass,
Frederick Douglass s disobedience ultimately sparked his freedom. Being introduced to the heart
rending shrieks from his aunt at such a young age, slavery has implanted a long lasting effect on his
life. Often times, when one experiences a painful memory in the manner such as, watching a family
member hit until they are covered with blood, sparks a fire to stand up for what is right in the back of

repulsive images and memories. These memories brought him to his jurisdiction of fighting back

The two movies of the week, It s a Wonderful Life by Frank Capra and American Beauty by Sam

dream that everybody by hard work and determination can be successful and make it to the top to
money and fame. Success in both movies is portrayed differently for example in It s a Wonderful Life

However following the basic american dream idea in the film American beauty and chasing money
lead to a dystopian end and family destruction, which is a cautionary tale that money is not the most
important thing in life, but family ties and connections. All the families in American beauty were
psychotic, unstable and terrifying, which shows the effect of the American myth on people that it
destroys relationships as I mentioned by the family being torn apart and just faking that it s a happy
family, everything went downhill. To explain the idea that the american dream is just a false myth, In
American dream at the end of the movie nothing came back to equilibrium after the chaos so the end
was dystopian, this is because the family ties were not strong and money and fortune were the main
goals. In contrast in It s a wonderful life, the equilibrium of the narrative was resorted and the end was
utopian by the happy family gathering. The idea of the male gaze was presented in both movies to

High School Government And Politics Class
I remember a mixture of enthusiasm and dread prior to a visit from a Pennsylvania state representative
to my high school government and politics class. We were discussing local educational funding and I
had many questions for him about the topic. But more than anything I did not want to embarrass
myself. I went to bed early the previous night, and before class I guzzled two cans of Monster energy
drink. There was a safety pin in my pocket just in case. The first few minutes of class I felt euphoric
and was enthralled with the discussion on the local political landscape. However, my energy quickly
began to drain. I tried to focus on my notes but after a half hour I was barely able to grip my pencil
and saw that much of what I had written was incoherent scribble. In desperation, I took the safety pin
out of my pocket and frantically began stabbing the palm of my hand. My efforts were for naught,
because at some point I completely fell asleep only to wake up five minutes before the lecture was
over. This was a common occurrence throughout my high school career but I was not correctly
diagnosed with narcolepsy until the spring of my senior year. As a result, much of my college
experience was spent adjusting to life with this diagnosis.
Under the care of Dr. Cantor at the Penn Sleep Center, I felt confident that I could finally be a normal
person. But I soon found that a medical diagnosis and treatment was not a literal cure all . Leaving the

Film Adaptation Of Shakespeare s The Tempest
Julie Taymor s 2010 film adaptation of Shakespeare s The Tempest is a truthful recreation of the
classic romantic tragicomedy in all aspects except that the role of the magician, Prospero, is played by
Helen Mirren, turning him from Prospero to Prospera. Through this simple change in the gender of
one of the main characters, we see the play s themes called into question and viewed differently to
how they would have been if the role of Prospero was played by a male. These themes include the
usurpation of royalty and family. This review will discuss how Taymor s decision to change Prospero s
gender is a critique of modern gender discourse. When Sebastian and Antonio usurp Prospera during

I feel that through this decision, Taymor is commenting on the state of Elizabethan society and its
view of women, who were desirable only if they were silent and invisible (Greer 2007, 4) and
although not as conservative as the Elizabethan era, our own contemporary society, where women are
still not equal to men. It also comments on how there is a canon built around Shakespeare, whose parts
for women are comparatively few and composed largely of supporting rather than leading roles.
(Goodman 2001, 71). Due to this canon, Taymor (and many other directors and screenwriters) are
forced to reinvent Shakespeare s plays (Goodman 2001, 84 85). Family is one of, if not the biggest
theme in Shakespeare s The Tempest and this theme is of course shown in Taymor s adaptation of the
play. But the fact that Prospero is a woman in the film shows the audience a deeper relationship
between Prospera and Miranda the mother daughter relationship. In the original play, we see Prospero
as owning his daughter rather than having a normal father daughter relationship with her. It is as
though Miranda is an object to be given as a prize to another man Ferdinand. In

Difference Between True Experimental And Quasi...
PSY201 ~ Assignment 2: Short Answer Quiz Question 1 Explain the difference between true
experimental and quasi experimental research design. Provide examples in your answer. (285 words)
True experimental and quasi experimental research designs are the two most commonly used types of
research design. They share some common characteristics such as measuring collected data to test the
hypothesis, although, overall there are many differences between the two, especially in regards to the
type of research being conducted (The Regents of the University of Michigan, 2013 ). A true
experimental research design includes random selection and group assignment of participants into
either experimental or control groups, manipulation of the independent variables and observation of
the participants to determine if there is a statistically significant cause and effect relationship present
between the variables (Follmer Greenhoot, 2003). True experimental research designs are most
commonly used in experimental drug trials for new pharmaceuticals to see if they have the desired
treatment outcomes. Quasi experimental research designs were once considered flawed and inferior to
true experimental research designs, but they have become progressively widespread over the last three
to four decades in many research fields, especially psychology and other social sciences (Coolican,
2014, p. 121). It differs from true experimental research design in the way that quasi experimental

(Kurfiss 1988 cited in Baril et al. 1998, p. 383) However critical thinking has no one, universally
accepted definition. This perhaps represents the first difficulty in incorporating such skills into
accounting education; no one can agree on what precisely critical thinking skills encompass (Young
and Warren 2011). Pascarella and Terezini (2005, p.155) summarise these skills to include: The
general intellectual outcomes of postsecondary education that permit individuals the process and
utilize new information; communicate effectively; reason objectively and draw objective conclusions
from various types of data; evaluate new ideas and techniques efficiently; become more objective
about beliefs, attitudes, and values; evaluate arguments and claims critically; and make reasonable
decisions in the face of imperfect information. Education plays an imperative role in developing these
skills. Young and Warren (2011), in their review of the education literature, stated that a number of
cross sectional research studies have shown that a student s critical thinking ability can improve while
at college. While Parcarella and Terenzini (2005) approximate that a student can improve their critical

Violent Media Is Good for Kids
Violent Media is Good for Kids, written by Gerard Jones, is an interesting argument about the positive
aspects of violent media. He has narrated his own experience as a child about the impact of violent
media. Jones has further developed his argument to convince parents about the importance of violent
media by noting that exposing kids to violent media helps the kids to overcome their fear. Jones is
focused on parents and teachers, both of whom restricts the exposure of kids to violent media. He also
notes the skeptical thinking, which argues that violent media have a negative impression on kids. His
argument is catchy and strong based on his own realizations of the world and experience. Let us
discuss how he has made the argument realistic.
The first evidence that Jones used to convince his audiences is his own story. He narrates his own
story, which is obviously from his real experience after getting exposed to the violent cartoon
character Hulk. As Jones illustrates his anecdote, when he was a child, his fear and feelings were
suppressed under a decent small boy posture and his teachers and parents created a wall between him

women that fell short of nearly unattainable standards were publicly ostracized. During this period in
America women were finally being recognized as important members of society, and on a more
personal level men were recognizing that women had emotional qualities that also held value. Women
were seen as more naturally pure and moral in this era. On top of moral obligations the mother of a
family had many worldly responsibilities. Women were expected to serve as nurse to the family, a
sexual and moral companion to the husband, and a spiritual figure within the community. On top of
their worldly duties women were also expected to be dainty, but not high maintenance, and
submissive, but not mindless. The reading of books was encouraged for maintaining a sharp mind, but
not books that were highly educated either, so the Bible became a constant source of knowledge and
moral guidance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From birth until marriage women were taught to retain their virginity because a woman s physical
form was all she truly owned. After a women had given this worldly possession away they had no

A woman that enjoyed sex before marriage was seen as disgraced in the eyes of God and the
community. Sensationalized accounts of disgraced women appeared in magazines and stories to
remind future mothers of the importance of keeping their gift. Women had to personify purity and
patience, while functioning as the head of the house, all while being completely overruled by the

Autobiography Of Ken Griffey Jr
When I was young I was in the U.S. army. When i got medically discharged i was sent to Kentucky.
While I was waiting for my final paperwork i met a man he was on the Kansas city Monarchs. They
were a Negro American League team; and that man knew I was a good track runner but not that i
played ball. At this same time the Brooklyn Dodgers co owner was looking for African and latin
American ball players. When that phone rang i would have never guessed what i would become and
how i would change the world of not just baseball, but also change America.
Now a days i have a whole day of baseball just for me April, 15 every year. All the players now wear
my number it use to be just one player Ken Griffey Jr then just a couple of teams and now all of

The Insanity Of Horror And Horror Films In The 1960 s
TITLE As a society, there is a lot of excitement placed upon horror and horror films; ask anybody and
they could recall what the first horror movie they saw was and when they saw it. In fact, there were
322 horror films release in 2015 alone. However, during the 1950s there were only approximately 117
or so horror films released throughout the whole decade. During the 1960s, that number double from
117 to 273 (IMDB). This sharp incline could be attributed to many different things, but it would
ridiculous to deny that the works of Shirley Jackson didn t have an affect on the popularity of horror,
and the increase in demand for horror to be put on screen. Shirley Jackson s The Haunting of Hill
House was the original haunted house story,

Second-Degree Assault In Colorado
Sometimes, people in Colorado may get into arguments that become physical. Those who are involved
in physical altercations with others may be charged with assault, which is a serious criminal offense.
State law establishes three types of assault offenses of varying severities third degree, second degree
and first degree.
Assault in the third degree is the least severe of the assault variations. This type of assault occurs when
people recklessly or knowingly cause injury to others. Accidently or negligently injuring a person with

Comparison Of Koh Tao
The underwater world surrounding of Koh Tao has a diverse array of marine life and corals, making it
a fantastic destination to snorkel. Located in Thailand, Koh Tao is an island that offers many
snorkeling sites to explore the unique underwater world.
Primetime for Snorkeling Koh Tao
You can visit Koh Tao anytime of the year, which is part of the reason it is a top notch snorkeling
destination. The dry season stretches from November to April, which might be the best time to visit.
During this time temperatures range from 29°C to 34°C (84 94°F), and there is little rainfall. Year
round, Thailand boasts picturesque scenery, beautiful weather, and a unique underwater world waiting
to be explored!
Sites for Snorkeling Koh Tao
The list of places for snorkeling Koh Tao is endless. There are beaches dotting the whole island, which
makes it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to some of the other sites, the middle of the bay is sandy with little marine life, so the best
snorkeling is along the rocky edges. The road to Mango Bay is not exactly safe, so you may want to
hire a long tail boat or rent a kayak to reach the area. Mango Bay is a great snorkeling site because it
has huge schools of fish, which can actually be seen from the surface. You will generally find this
throng of fish by the Mango Bay resort.
Getting to Koh Tao
This island can be a bit more difficult to reach than others in Thailand. The fastest way to get there
would be to fly into Koh Samui and then take the ferry to Koh Tao. This is also the most expensive
method, but it will get you there quickest.
Whichever way you choose to travel to Koh Tao, the underwater world awaits! Take in views of
magical sea creatures and stunning scenery while you snorkel Koh Tao. This is a great area to see
exotic fish, sea turtles, octopus and most definitely sharks! You can also see a variety of corals, such
as Brain, Whip, Table and Staghorn corals, along with many types of soft

  • 4. The Evolution Of Human Origins Initial ideas of human origins are reflected in the ancient mythologies. Later on, religious versions of human origins appeared. One of the most popular religious theory is creationism. According to it God had created men and everything else in the world. There are two types of creationism, young earth creationism and old earth creationism . Ancient philosophy first proposed ideas of the natural origins of men. Most of its ideas were speculative. It was the product of the ancient philosophers` imagination, but not a result of researching of objective data. Next Charles Darwin offered the Theory of Evolution. Until now this theory is the one of the best substantiated theories in the history of science, supported by evidence from a wide variety of scientific disciplines, including paleontology, geology, genetics and developmental biology. His theory explains how unguided, natural mechanism could structure all the processes in the world, while operating in accordance to the laws of nature . Despite the wealth of evidence from the fossil record, genetics and other fields of science, some people denounce the theory, invoking a higher being as a designer to explain the complex world of living things, especially humans. School boards debate whether the theory of evolution should be taught alongside other ideas, such as creationism. Mainstream scientists see no controversy. Daru was asked to take prisoner to a nearby town Tinguit where he would be tried for relative s murder. The teacher did not want to take part in these events, but Balducci still left Arab in the school. Daru did not treat the man like a prisoner. Daru with heavy heart made out the Arab walking slowly on the road to prison (Camus 11). Words with heavy heart highlighted the man wanted Arab to choose the road to nomads. The sentence could show that Daru was more on Algerian than the French side in the conflict in spite of his pursuance of neutrality. Teacher s attitude was highlighted by the Arab s behavior. Daru treated apprehended man as a guest, not a prisoner, but the man could deny his hospitality or even kill the teacher as a roadblock on the way to freedom. However, the Arab did not hurt Daru, accepted his food and beverages. This behavior can be treated as a sign of political solidarity, the food symbolizing the exchange of life between them (Bernardo). Arab s decision to go to the police headquarters in Tinguit, and the fact he did not try to hurt Daru, showed the man was not really a bad person; and the murder he committed could be a result of emotions or misunderstanding. These suggestions make readers to support Daru s decision to give the Arab an opportunity to choose his fate by himself, and not make a man a subject of a travesty of a trial (Bernardo). Letter From Birmingham Jail And Nonviolent Protests Essay Letter from Birmingham jail and Nonviolent Protests In Martin Luther King Jr s Letter from Birmingham jail , King talks about his imprisonment for his involvement in a nonviolent protest and defends his rights and moral grounds for organizing nonviolent protest activities. In this essay, I will look at his views on nonviolent protest and how they differ from todays violent protests. To understand King s views on nonviolent protest, I will start by summarizing some of the main points in his Letter from Birmingham jail . In spite of the fact that the Letter is verifiably worried with justice all through, King likewise addresses the question specifically at a few focuses. In actuality, he places that justice maintains the poise of the human soul, while injustice conflicts with it. By talking about this idea by and large, he builds up criteria by which to obscurely assault both segregation and silence it. He at last suggests that the man who sees injustice and does nothing to stop it is acting unjustly also. Taking after this thought, he contends that laws must be permeated with an ethical sense so as to be just; as such, law and morality can not be viewed as independent interests or areas. The best way to really enact change and help humankind rise above its confinements is to act with as well as grasp extremism . Scholars believe Mark is the first Gospel written and is symbolized by a lion to denote Christ as powerful and fast paced. The Book of John, understood to be the last gospel composed, is perceived as an eagle because the story differs greatly and is often more developed than the other Gospels. Comparing John 2 to the Gospel of Mark will depict unique themes and characteristics of Jesus. Jesus performs many miracles throughout the Gospels. Comparing how he presents these wonders among different books can help display the author s themes and goals in these Gospels. Jesus first miracle, turning water into wine, is only mentioned in the book of John. This story is called The Wedding at Cana (John 2:1 12). Jesus and his disciples attend a wedding and Jesus mother is concerned that there is no wine left. He asks the servants to fill their jars with water, but when the steward tasted the water it had become wine. Another interesting miracle story is Jesus walking on water (Mark 6:45 52). In this story, Jesus disciples leave on a boat, while he stays back to pray. He then walks on water towards their boat, and the disciples were afraid when they saw him. Each of these stories involve water and display Jesus great power, but their differences are even more significant. John s story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand, the city s spokesman Philippe Sabourin, says that the contamination is not a big concern due to the sheer size of the river and how quickly it flows at a rate of 6,000 to 7,000 cubic meters a second, compared to the flow rate of the wastewater, expected to be 13 cubic meters a second [2]. However, it would be devastating if the city proceeds with their plan since the chemical and bacteriological mixture of wastewater must be observed at all times to ensure public health. In wastewater there are oxygen consuming materials, which needs to be minimized to protect from low dissolved oxygen conditions since it can be harmful to aquatic species [4]. I went to bed early the previous night, and before class I guzzled two cans of Monster energy drink. There was a safety pin in my pocket just in case. The first few minutes of class I felt euphoric and was enthralled with the discussion on the local political landscape. However, my energy quickly began to drain. Through this simple change in the gender of one of the main characters, we see the play s themes called into question and viewed differently to how they would have been if the role of Prospero was played by a male. It also comments on how there is a canon built around Shakespeare, whose parts for women are comparatively few and composed largely of supporting rather than leading roles. (Goodman 2001, 71). Due to this canon, Taymor (and many other directors and screenwriters) are forced to reinvent Shakespeare s plays (Goodman 2001, 84 85). Provide examples in your answer. (285 words) True experimental and quasi experimental research designs are the two most commonly used types of research design. They share some common characteristics such as measuring collected data to test the hypothesis, although, overall there are many differences between the two, especially in regards to the type of research being conducted (The Regents of the University of Michigan, 2013 ). A true experimental research design includes random selection and group assignment of participants into either experimental or control groups, manipulation of the independent variables and observation of the participants to determine if there is a statistically significant cause and effect relationship present between the variables (Follmer Greenhoot, 2003). True experimental research designs are most commonly used in experimental drug trials for new pharmaceuticals to see if they have the desired treatment outcomes. Quasi experimental research designs were once considered flawed and inferior to true experimental research designs, but they have become progressively widespread over the last three to four decades in many research fields, especially psychology and other social sciences (Coolican, 2014, p. 121).
