Mr. Gene Waters
Riordan Manufacturing Team Building and Conflict Management
Riordan Manufacturing is launching a Card Care produce and in doing so is designing a team to care
out the product launch. The company is looking to use some employees along with new hires to
build the team needed to manufacture this new product. They will be using team building strategies
to determine how to put to gather new team for this product and will also be looking at conflict
management strategies and conflict management to handle any problems that may come about.
Part I: Strategy Plan There are different strategies that can be used to identify employees for a
team. It is very important that when putting a team together the people have skills and are able
to work well together. Reviewing their files would be a good place to begin. Looking at
performance reviews and their strengths and weaknesses can help to determine what people to use
on the team for this new project. This will only work for the current employees. With the new
employees that are coming in to work on the project for the new product the data from the
interviewing process and past job experience will help to determine how these employees can be
best used in the new team that is being developed. There can be many challenges that arise during
the development of this team. Employees that

Reading Response Criticism
Reading response criticisms function: that the role of the reader cannot be omitted from our
understanding of literature and 2) that readers do not passively consume the meaning presented to
them by an objective literary text; rather they actively make the meaning they find in literature
(154).
Reading Response criticism definition:
At its most basic level, reader response criticism considers readers reactions to literature as vital to
interpreting the meaning of the text.
Literary Characteristics:
Characters:
Oskar:
Oskar is the main protagonist and narrator in the novel. His character, like most children his age,
has a million thoughts all at once and speaks in a way that is quite complicated when trying to read.
The manner in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

His grandparents have their own, quieter stories, that weave in and out of the narrative and are told
as letters written to Oskar (by his grandmother) and to Oskar s father (by Oskar s grandfather).
The stories are largely unrelated to Oskar s narrative until they all catch up to each other at the end.
They mirror the trauma Oskar s going through as they describe horrors from a different time but
with the same consequences. This I feel added death and dimensions necessary to making the novel

A Comparison Of Art In Wiggins s Of Mice And Men
The project this group presented to the class would happen to be a Prezi presentation. The Prezi
presentation was complete with descriptions and comparisons of not only characters, but also of
style, technique, settings, themes, cultural influences, symbols, art based off of the novels, and
some rabbit clip art. The art ties into each novel in its own, specific ways. The first piece, which
is untitled, shows white silhouettes of Lennie and George standing inside the black silhouette of
a rabbit. This shows how their dream, of owning a rabbit farm, was bigger than the both of them,
and that to do it, they would require help. Another piece, Of Mice and Men by Mick Wiggins,
shows the close friendship between George and Lennie, and how for the longest time, it was really
only the both of them on their travels together. Meanwhile, the final piece, The Departure of the
Joads by Thomas Hart Bennon, shows the dreariness of the Okies situation, along with a symbol of
hope for the future shown by the light shining radiantly from beyond their vehicle. Many of
Steinbeck s characters can be rather cruel, and downright mean to other characters if... Show more

Steinbeck heavily enjoys is setting. Steinbeck uses in depth descriptions of scenery in order to
set the scene . Almost whole chapters in The Grapes of Wrath are dedicated to setting the scene
for the next chapter, proving just how much Steinbeck relied on these. From his descriptions of
the dying land in The Grapes of Wrath to the peaceful secret place to the dream of Of Mice and
Men , Steinbeck knows how to use descriptive language to manipulate how a reader is

Why Did Texas Fight
What caused thousands of people to fight in one of the bloodiest wars in American history for there
homeland? Maybe it was because of the Missouri Compromise, or possibly the abolitionist who
tried to start a slave uprising. This creates the question why did Texans Fight? I believe that Texans
fought beacuse they wanted to protect states rights, love for Texas, and perserve slavery. First off,
Texans fought for the south was states rights. Texas became mad when they were informed that
they could t leave the union. No state upon its own mere motion, can lawfully get out of the union.

Drug Testing Satire
More muscles, more money? The bigger you are, the bigger the lies? Drug testing in sports is a
significant issue, even though people don t take it as serious as they should. This happens because
players in sports either don t have knowledge about steroids, or they feel the need to make
themselves look bigger. The problem is when they do take this drug, the players get away with it,
and become better than everyone else. That s why I think drug testing should alter their way of
testing to make the games even.
It all starts when players use the performance enhancing drugs and pass the drug test. When the
others get word about this, some of them might take that shot and take the performance enhancing
drug too. This is how it spreads between athletes

Parent child relationship is a combination of behaviors, feelings and expectations that are unique to
a particular parent and a particular child. Through the novel, this theme is portrayed in several
parts of the book. For instance, a father to child relationship is seen when Jem and Scout go to
Atticus if they needed anything or advise from him. We were far too old to settle an argument with
a fist fight, so we consulted Atticus, this shows Parentchild relationship is also shown between
Mr. Radley and his son Arthur Radley, Boo Radley, when Mr. Radley keeps Boo out of sight from
the people in Maycomb; nobody knew what form of intimidation Mr. Radley employed to keep

such as degrees of symptomatology, nonverbal cognitive ability, receptive language, expressive
language, and social development, had on a specific kind of play. They type of play that was
being observed was symbolic play. Gillian Stanley and Mary Konstantareas (2006) explain that
various degrees in Autism have an effect on symbolic play.
Gillian Stanley and Mary Konstantareas (2006) researched children with Autism Spectrum
Disorder, or ASD. The files they observed were of 131 children who were diagnosed with
Autism. 1992. However, 29 files were excluded due to testing complications. The writers state
that the gender ratio was also 1 girl for every 6 boys, or 15 girls and 86 boys. The study took
place between March, 1982 and January. The participants ranged from 24 to 216 months of age
(Stanley Konstantarea 2006).
According to Gillian Stanley and Mary Konstantarea (2006), their study used the Lowe and Costello
Symbolic Play Test to come up with the results from each group of Autistic children. This test was
used because of its nonverbal administration. This made the test the most appropriate test to use on
the participants. To measure the different degrees of Autism, Gillian Stanley

Racial Prejudice And Racial Discrimination During The 1920...
A Colorblind America When people refer to America, they typically think of it as the melting pot
in the center of the earth. However, for a country that prides itself in advocating freedom and
equality for all, the United States has a long history of segregation and discrimination that has long
affected present policy. It is clear that racial minorities have been targets of this racial bias for
years, and even after slavery was abolished, African Americans continued to face the most racism
due to the color of their skin. Thus, by looking at how John Franklin s life experience as a boy
scout during the 1920 s illustrates a small peek into the history of raceand ethnicity in America, we
can see how racial hostility, and the Anglo Saxon view of a white American identity played a major
role in defining the color line in American culture. Consequently, rather than enjoying equal liberties
as did any other American citizen, African Americans faced many political, social, and economic
discriminations that only proved that race was nothing more than a socially constructed product of
hatred. Accordingly, in John Hope Franklin s oral history from storycorps.org, the late scholar of
African Americanhistory, tells his son about his days as a boy scout during the 1920 s. At first,
Franklin begins his story with the bright, enthusiastic attitude that he held as a young boy scout,
who simply wanted to do a good deed. He then goes on to explain how he saw a woman with a cane

In the Jewish tradition, the New Yearis received with a time of introspection and reflection to take
stock of the previous year before moving into the new one. This is done during the first ten days,
starting with Rosh Hashanah and ending with Yom Kippur. These are commonly known as the
Days of Awe or the Days of Repentance.
All religious undertone aside, I like the idea of reviewing and revisiting life to let go of what no
longer serves us no matter what time of the year. It s too easy to get used and attached to things that
hold us back, be they objects, relationships, jobs, situations, routines, or beliefs.
The ego mind likes familiarity and creating a sense of repetition to feel safe and in control. This
is crucial when we are children and need to feel safe, but its value should decrease as we grow up
and understand that being in control is really an illusion, especially if we want to continue growing
emotionally, mentally, and spiritually to master our life.
Life is about being in the present and opening up to the

The American Dream In Raisin In The Sun
A dream is not something you should just experience when you drift asleep, but it should be a
reality when you have woken. The American Dream is something people push for, it takes blood,
sweat and tears to become a reality. If that means, waking at the crack of dawn or laboring late at
night, doing long hours, for the dream...... it will happen. Even if the dream is simple as love the
unique thing about it is, everyone has a chance to have something good in life and everyone
should push towards it. The Raisin in the sun is primarily all about the American dream and the
trails that it take for it to be fulfilled. Each character has the own personal desire, and strives to
reach their dreams. Mama s American dream, of buying a home is affected by her traits of
compassion, pride, and integrity. Mama s always dreamed of a home of her own. She says, Well I,
always wanted me a garden like I use to see sometimes at the back of the houses down home. This
plant is as close as I ever got to having one.
Compassion: sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.
Mama s compassion throughout the play affects her dreams. For an example, every decision
Mama made was to make sure her family dreams were fulfilled. Owning a home would get Ruth
and her grandson of the couch in the living room, or sacrificing for Walter even if it went against
her beliefs. She says, There ain t nothing as precious to me...There ain t nothing worth holding on
to, money dreams

Npm And Performance Management Related Literatures
CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
The NPM Model has focused on delivering market inspired results and was primarily concerned
with efficiency and performance. (Jarrar and Schiuma, 2007)
2.1. INTRODUCTION
Efficiency and performance become two key words for the reform that held by countries in the
world. Started in the developed countries, namely United Kingdom and United States under their
leader, Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reaganera, this doctrine then spread to Australia, New
Zealand, Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia. NPM spread and breadth expand globally.
Inevitably, this so called doctrine or paradigm is delivering market based which one s country like
or dislike diffuse theirs governance in order to well implement it. This movement also inevitably
followed as one of the pressure of country s exogenous factors.
The main purpose of this Chapter is to address NPM and Performance Management related
literatures. First, the definition of NPM, its objectives and characteristic is clarified in Section
2.2.1. Section 2.3 expands on the explanation of NPM in developing countries. The Chapter
progresses with elaborating Performance Management themes in Section 2.4 encompassing
definition, essences and challenges, before concluding in Section 2.5.
2.2. NPM AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT ISSUE
This section pertains NPM and performance management issues, NPM definition, objectives and
elements; how the performance management as main elements of NPM, relevancies of

Significance Of Light In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby is a dramatic tale of drama, romance, hate, and death but the theme of the story
is something much larger. The story of The Great Gatsby is set in New York in 1922 and spans
over several months. Even though this is the case of the story, the theme of the novel is symbolic of
1920s America in its entirety. What F. Scott Fitzgerald
depicts throughout the story is Gatsbys
strive and want for the american dream. Near the beginning of the story Gatsbys american dream
seems so close but as the story progresses it becomes more and more obvious that his dream is
unattainable. The green light in the story exemplifies this. Near the beginning of the story the light
is bright and burning and Gatsby is always looking at it but near the end of the story the light is
nothing special and is just a light.
In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald s overall theme is the corrupting influences of wealth and how
they affect the purity of a dream or in this case the american dream. In the story Nick says it best I

is close to come and go. In the story he gets married but as his wife gets older Benjamin is getting
younger and this causes conflict. Benjamin continues to struggle with his identity because
everyone he is close with is getting older and he is getting younger. As Benjamin says best I can t

Grows In Brooklyn
Serene was a word you could put to Brooklyn, New York. Especially in the summer of 1912 (5),
is the famous first sentence in Betty Smith s bestseller, A Tree Grows In Brooklyn (ATGIB).
Joche says this book reads realistically because it was prepared for us not by a statistician with
an array of facts and figures, not by a sociologist presenting a carefully prepared case history, not
by a participant observer who has for a brief period lived among the group, nor by a psychologist,
a historian, or an economist, but by one who naturally combines all of these who, herself, is a
member of the group about which she writes. (240)
Betty Smith was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 1896, which helps her accurately portray the
life of the Nolan s because it is similar to the one she lived. The time period in which the Nolans
lived greatly impacted the plot and characters of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith through
the poverty, education, and gender roles that the Nolans experienced.. Throughout most of the
novel, the Nolans live in substantial poverty specific to the time period, which affects the children s
ability to thrive in their environment. The Nolan parent don t have jobs that produce much income.

Mussolini Research Paper
He demonstrated great skill in winning over a valuable ally. Discuss this view of Mussolini s
policy towards the Roman Catholic Church.
Mussolini did demonstrate his political skills in winning over a valuable ally through establishing
mutually beneficial policies that allowed the state to cooperate with the Roman Catholic Church.
However, in consideration of not just early successes and the settlement of the Roman question ,
but also the policies he introduced after 1929 as well as the anti Jewish laws, ultimately, Mussolini
demonstrated pragmatism rather than pure political skill. With policies that accommodated both
parties, he should not be considered as solely responsible for this relationship, especially since he

The anti Jewish law passed in 1938 was condemned by the Catholic Church, which issued a formal
letter of protest to Mussolini. Clearly, this policy was not advantageous to the relationship between
the state and the Church, and upset the balance that was previously established. However, this may
be explained by the fact that Mussolini s end goal was never to form strong ties with the Church,
but to gain the support of the majority of Italians who were Catholic. As his policies, foreign policy
in particular, was drawn to an alliance with Germany, he acted in the interest of this relationship,
which he deemed to be strategically valuable for fascist rule. Consequently, Mussolini weakened his
ties with the Church, and of course in this case, he did not demonstrate great skill in maintaining
cordial relations. At the same time, Mussolini still showed the pragmatism that characterised his
leadership, for although he offended a valuable ally, he appeased another Germany. Also the fact
Lateran Pact restricted the Church s involvement in foreign policy illustrates that Mussolini had
been skilful in this arrangement. Again, this goes to show that the long term benefits prove that he
had made political decisions that were pragmatic, regardless of the offense he may have caused to
the Pope.
Ultimately, while Mussolini cannot be fully credited for the cordial relationship between the
Church and the state, he did much to ensure that his regime would be given the support from a
valuable ally that the liberal government did not have. In considering both the positive and
negative policies he proposed, he proved himself to be a pragmatic leader, skilful in the way he
harnessed Church support despite his personal disdain for

that a human may actually someday travel through space or walk on another planet. Yet, we dared

American Neil Armstrong from the Apollo 11mission became the first man to step on the surface of

Streetcar Named Desire Naturalism
Naturalism was a literary period that was highlighted between 1880 and 1940. Naturalists used to
believe that nature was much more powerful than anything else which humanity would never
overturn its power. Naturalists would use lifestyles, common characters, and plenty of
personification associated with nature. Naturalists studied characters through their relationships
with each different characters and nature alike. Taking an experimental stand on life, Naturalists
were objective in life and allowed the natural order of things to progress.
While not usually outlined as a realistic piece, some characteristics of Naturalism are apparent in
Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire.
First, the play depicts lower class characters in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, the ending of the play was made apparent through all that led up to that. Life for Blanche
and Stella was what it was. Regardless of how arduous either of them tried, their lives were on a
path that they would not be ready to deter from. Blanche s mental instability could lead to nothing
but her being institutionalized and Stella s love for Stanley could lead to nothing but her staying
with him.
Naturalism was initially began by French author Emile Zola. Zola cast the road for alternative
authors who wanted to tug away from the Romantic concepts of writing. Romantics viewed life
through rose colored glasses (meaning they forced the sweetness of all things to the front). In
essence, in their want to elevate nature and also the fantastic thing about nature, Romantics would
often alter the realities of life.
Naturalists, on the opposite hand, desired to point out life as it ultimately was (as an extension of
Realism). The authors would usually be figurative scientific observers, stating solely what they
observed in life while not manipulating

Dihydroxyphenol Scavenger
SYNTHESIS OF HYDROXYTYROSOL USING CATECHOL PRECURSOR
LITERATURE REVIEW
INTRODUCTION
Polyphenols comprise a large family of compounds that have multiple structural unites of phenol.
These compounds are found in vegetables and fruits, wine, tea, extra virgin olive oil and cocoa, and
exhibit strong antioxidant activity by scavenging different families of Reactive Oxygen Species
(ROS)1. The main phenolic compounds identified in olive oils include hydroxytyrosol (HT),
tyrosol (TY), secoiridioxide and ligands3, 4.
Hydroxytyrosol, 2 (3,4 dihydroxyphenoyl) ethanol, a simple phenol found predominantly in olive
tree (Olea europaea), is one of the most effective member of the polyphenol family1,2, because of
its marked antioxidant activity, its capacity to impede low density (LDL) oxidation, platelet
aggregation and endothelial cell activation and it protection against DNA damage3,4,5.
Hydroxytyrosol has been proven to be a potent scavenger of superoxide anion and hydroxy
radical6,7,8, and owing to its antioxidant and radical scavenging properties, Hydroxytyrosol has a
wide range of biological effects. Hydroxytyrosol (Figure 1) exerts its antioxidant activity by

Gran Torino Ethos
We have seen Clint Eastwood many times before Gran Torino. Over a long career, he has
portrayed many distinctive roles that have included cowboys, police officers and boxing managers.
Even though the roles differed in time and place, they were often characterized by a strong sense of
independence and commitment to seeing difficult challenges through to the end. The end often
meant the death of villains. Eastwood s many roles have created an Eastwood ethos, or philosophy,
that his fans have been able to count on in each movie, no matter their genre or historical context.
Gran Torino is a departure from the Eastwood ethos, however, because of the way that Walt deals

The scenes occur mostly in and around Walt s and Thao s homes over the course of a film.
Editors often use fade ins and fade outs to indicate changes in time, especially when the
locations remain the same. The editors used straight cuts rather than fades in expressing its
story. In the scene when Walt tells Thao to dig up a neighbour s tree, the editor uses various
alternating scenes of Walt smoking and watching while Thao digs in the rain. The cameras
shots of Walt and Thao are separated by various dissolves. What gives the film its strength is the
way Eastwood shows Walt struggling with his prejudices and coming to terms with a changing
world and with his inner demons, many of the latter stemming from the horrors he witnessed in
the Korean War. Finally, it turns into a kind of modern western, with Walt preparing for a finale.
At the end of the film I have picked up a flaw and it appears when Walt takes Thao to get a job
and to see how true American friends of different backgrounds work together. They do this
through racial insults, calling each other wops and polack s, and there s a very funny scene with

Indigenous Health Essay
Causative considerations are multifactorial regarding the development of low health literacy rates
in Aboriginals, inclusive of socio economical disadvantages, geographical considerations, and social
/environmental influences (Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet, 2015). Differing
conceptualisations of reality or worldview are present within Aboriginal culture, which vary from
westernised civilisation. Indigenous history lacks a biomedical background, and encompasses
differing views of disease/illness, which may be associated with personal actions/behaviours, social
order, and spiritual health. As an example, disease may be viewed as the consequence of sorcery

medicine/civilisation due to The Stolen Generation or social engineering and previous cultural

ridiculous. One might be influenced to buy a cologne, or a grill, but to be influenced to kill

they butchered people all the same. Hitler played classical music while he dictated hateful ideas to
his secretary that was later to become his first book, Mein

Crisis was a major event during the Cold War. It brought the citizens of the U.S. to the edge of
their seats because, like the flip of a switch, their world could be turned upside down. John F.
Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev were fighting for their beliefs and the safety of their own country.
It was once said that this event is when, the Cold Wargot hot . The Cuban Missile Crisis was the
most significant in causing the most tensions because it was the closest to home the Cold War had
gotten and it deeply impacted the citizens.
The Soviet Union placed missiles in Cuba which is only ninety

Machiavellian Monarchs During The Renaissance
In the 14th and early 15th century, rulers in Europe were undertaking the task of reestablishing the
power of the monarch after its age of weakness during the Middle Ages. The age that led up to the
Renaissance was a constant struggle for the monarchs. They depended on councils of nobles and the
church for financial and militant support. This confined their ability to accomplish goals for their
nation without the approval of someone else. They lacked the capability to make any move without
being consented by the nobles and/or church. This soon changed. When the Renaissancecame
around, scholars and thinkers started to develope new political ideas that influenced and
encouraged the modern rulers. One such scholar was Machiavelli, who proposed... Show more

They, like a fox, slyly gained political influence over the church by negotiating with the pope.
They were given the ability to choose who would be the Church s clergy and priests. This is
extremely important to the throne, for with this capability, the monarch would be able to control
the faith of their nation. Not only would they manage the finances and property of the people,
but also the hearts. Another fox like quality of the French monarchs is the astute way in which
Edward IV and others conducted foreign policy. They focused on diplomacy when dealing with
foreign affairs, which helped them to avoid expensive wars. This saved their nation a large
amount of money, because instead of constant fighting, there was continual growth. In a similar
manner to England, the French monarchy displayed sneaky characteristics by choosing from
among smaller landowners and urban lawyers for a government council. By choosing these
landowners and lawyers, the monarch received more financial support and power than they
would have by choosing nobles and aristocrats. Along with the fox like actions, France also
showed lion like characteristics with Edward, Richard III, and Henry VII who attempted to
reinstate prominence, suppress the influence of the nobility, and demonstrate law and discipline a
local level around France. By lessening the importance of nobles, the rulers gained control and
started to rebuild the position of the monarch. They were fierce in their endeavors to gain power
and enforce law in their nation. This, along with the newly established influence on the church and
careful efforts to avoid expensive and unnecessary wars, showed how France both had fox like and

Brief Summary Of Sir Galvano And Sir Pernik
Monday evening, two knights were told to report to the king s office for a critical meeting. Once
they arrived at the office, they were rushed inside and asked to go on a quest by the king. Sir
Galvano and Sir Pernik happily agreed to find the missing queen. Ready to go that minute, the king
told them, Wait until dawn, then you may fulfill my request. Once dismissed, they went to plan for
the mission. After Sir Galvano and Sir Pernik finished planning and preparing, they went to sleep.
While they were asleep, Sir Galvano s wicked step sister, Beulah, ventured into the woods and
created twenty knights whom she cursed with evil magic. These knights were to kill Sir Galvano

Chris Mccandless Argumentative Essay
Having to live and act a certain way towards the outside world when you feel completely
different on the inside would make one feel trapped and restricted. Restricted from being free to
be who they really are. Everyone deserves the freedom to have the opportunity to live life the
way they feel they were born to live it. Why do we criticize Chris McCandless for doing that
same thing? I can relate to Chris s desire to live life according to his dreams, not his parents.

Argumentative Essay Zoos
Do zoos benefit and improve the lives of animals, or are they catastrophic and disastrous to all
these creatures? This has been a huge debate ever since zoos have been created. Numerous people
believe they are horrid and an issue to animals. In reality, zoos benefit and improve the lives of
these animals for a great amount of reasons.
To illustrate, zoos promote animal conservation. Most animals that have lived in a zoo never
experienced the wild. According to the Conversation, it implies, Everyone believes the wild is a
safer habitat than in zoos, despite drastic threats of climate change, increased poaching, and
destruction of animal s habitats for palm oil. Other examples of how zoos promote animal
conservation are how after ten years of hard work to support and strengthen the amount of
endangered California condors, a type of vulture, the Los Angeles and San Diego zoos have
increased the population from about two dozen to about 170 birds (Are Zoos Good or Bad for
Animals?). In addition, there are 232 accredited zoos with Association of Zoos and Aquariums

In 2050, after over 50,000 people colonize Mars, Do Not Go Gentle, a private space company on
Earth is planning to have its first human exploration of Saturn s satellite, Titan. However, the
dangers of radiation and the length of the trip from Earth jeopardize the mission for the humans
on this mission to explore Titan. The mission will be using robotic AI s and space ship that uses
ion thrusters for propulsion. One of the topics that will be talked about in the sci fi story of the
mission to Titan is radiation. In space, radiation is one of many problems humans face when they

These particles do the similar kind of damage as ionized radiation. [1] [2] There are two ways to
measure radiation, an US unit and a SI unit. The first unit used to measure radiation is radiation
absorbed dose (rad) and it is use mostly in United States. The more commonly used measuring
unit in the International Systems of Unit or SI is gray (Gy); 1 rad is equivalent to 0.01 Gy.
Gray is also equivalent to one Joules per kilogram; however, radiation is measured in mGy or 1
/1000 of a Gy when measuring absorption of a biological entity. [2] On Earth, the layers of
atmosphere shield us from most of the radiation that could ever reach us but not all radiation is
filtered like UV radiation. If there was no atmosphere, the high energy particles can rip through
the DNA s links and cause mutations (usually in the form of cancer). When a high energy
particle affects the DNA/RNA or molecules, it can rip apart links or chains in the DNA
/molecules. [3] The links that ripped apart a DNA can cause cancer and can affect chromosomes
in the process. This process eventually leads to death if the DNA/RNA or cell is unable to repair
the damage bonds. Exposure radiation can cause either an acute or chronic radiation poisoning. [3]
Acute radiation is simply one large exposure to radiation either from high energy/ionized or cosmic
rays. Instead of having one large exposure of radiation, chronic radiation is having small doses over
time, hence the Latin root

Evidence based practice is a research to practice gap that exists in which some practices shown
are to be effective by scientific research are seldom used on applied settings, but some commonly
implemented practices are not empirically validated and may be ineffective or even harmful
(Cook et al, 2012). To illustrate how evidence can be judged differently whether it adheres to the
evidence based approach or to the practice based approach, I have selected the social anxiety
disorder. According to a new study by researchers, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) by itself is
a more effective long term treatment for social anxiety disorder than medication alone or a
combination of the two. Social anxiety disorder or social phobia is much more serious than social

Historical Purpose Of Philomena
The film Philomena, directed by Stephen Frears, brings to light only a portion of the injustices
faced by unwed mothers in Ireland during the mid late 1900 s. Due to such heavy religious
regard in the State, if any girl was to get pregnant outside of wedlock, she would be forced to leave
her home and live in a convent, referred to as mother and baby homes, where she would endure
many sufferings which were hidden from the public eye. Among these miseries, the most
heartbreaking one would be the constant fear of the nuns selling your baby through an illegal
adoption and never seeing your own child again. After leaving the convent, many of these women
would hide their shame and keep this part of their life a secret.
The plot of this film follows the true story of a 19 year old girl, Philomena Lee, who suffered
such pain and a life of silence and sorrow after her child was taken from her in one of the many
illegal adoptions at the Roscrea Abbey, the convent where she was placed upon becoming
pregnant. The film was released in 2013 and takes place in present day Ireland as the, now, ... Show

filmmakers do not have a choice but to tinker with the history of our times. If a filmmaker was to

Therefore, filmmakers must dramatize their works in order to create a successful movie that will

The Decline of Classical Hollywood Films
Introduction
The decline of Classical Hollywood films came after the Hollywood Antitrust Case of 1948 as
television audiences dwindled in the wave of television popularity and accessibility and the taste
and interests of viewers which in turn ended the monopoly of Hollywood Studios. To combat this
Hollywood Studios turned it s back on the origins of its creation and headed in a new direction. An
era of film school educated, liberal filmmakers began in Hollywood where the directors of the
films began to express their personal view and creative insights. These directors and new age
film makers were heavily influence by the work of the Italian Neo Realism and French New
Wave this saw American film change drastically from its previous eras of filming techniques and
saw a whole new era take over. Many changes happened following the 1948 lawsuit. Which saw
the structure of American cinema completely change and brought a new era which defined the
production of films and had a huge influence on the progression of film. With this, along with the
influence of Italian neo realism and the French new wave, American Cinema grew and grew from
Classical styles to against the grain alternative movies which then flourished into the blockbuster
industry those born in the 80 s and 90 s grew up with.

James Joyce
Essay Introduction to Literature
An initiation in James Joyce s story Araby Many times in life, people set unrealistic expectations
for themselves or for other people. This is not a very wise thing to do because people often feel
disappointed and embarrassed for getting their hopes up so high. One good example of this is the
narrator in the short story Araby by James Joyce. In his brief but complex story James Joyce
concentrates on character rather than on plot to reveal the ironies within self deception. On its
simplest level, Araby is a story about a boy s first love. On a deeper level, it is a story about the
world he lives in that is full of ideals and dreams. Araby is a story of initiation, of a boy s quest for

The second thing that has an impact on protagonist s life view is the culture and life in Dublin.
But on the rest of the people from this city. Children have to go to Christian school, where the
discipline is strict. That can be inferred from the very first sentence of the story: North
Richmond Street, being blind, was a quiet street except at the hour when the Christian Brothers
School set the boys free. Another thing that can be noticed about the boy s religious belonging
is in the way he acts: All my senses seemed to desire to veil themselves and, feeling that I was
about to slip from them, I pressed the palms of my hands together until they trembled,
murmuring: O love! O love! many times. (p. 434) This sentence can be interpreted as though he
does the thing he is used to do every time he happens to be in difficult situation. These facts play
a huge role in the forming of this boy s character and his life. Overvalue of boy s attitude towards
life in Araby is supported by the circumstances the boy had to face up with that are used as imagery
of light and darkness. Darkness is used throughout the story as the prevailing theme. The boy is
young and naive and he leads a dull and boring life. Joyce uses dark and obscure references to
make the boy s reality of living in the gloomy town more vivid. Darkness, in addition to despair,
represents the reality and truth in the narrator s circumstances. The author uses dark references to
create the mood or atmosphere

Analysis Of Clip Analysis Un Chen Andalou
Clip Analysis
This clip is from the 1929 movie, Un Chien Andalou. This film uses two specific formal choices that
illustrate it s surrealism, including discontinuity editing and close ups. Discontinuity editing in this
film went against Hollywood s continuity rules of seamlessly blending scenes together that not only
made narrative sense, but visual sense as well. However in Un Chien Andalou, these rules are
broken by obscure, random images that don t seem to fit together and lack any narrative sense.
In the clip, we see a scene of a man staring at his hand where ants are crawling out of a hole, then
we see an image of a person s underarm hair that soon transitions into a picture of a sea urchin.
These series of images don t make much sense when put together, yet they illustrate the surreality
of the mind and how our thought patterns often lack any significance. The swarming of the ants
in the hand is an example of lack of pattern because it symbolizes the fragmented or swarming
images of our mind. These scenes are not only non linear, but they are also discontinuous and
show that our reality is constantly evolving; we walk away with a different interpretation of the
movie each time. Another formal choice that Un Chien Andalou uses is the close up, we see this
used in the first few minutes of the clip when the women s eye is cut. The use of the close up in
this scene brings this grotesque act to the forefront, where we cannot help but look away every
time we see it.

Comparing Emotion In As She s Walking Away And If I Told You
Country music is generally simple in form and harmony, typified by romantic or melancholy
ballads, with lyrics that tell a memorable story. Songs can tell similar stories of internal struggle as
to whether or not to speak from the heart, but can also differ completely in use of emotion.
Through imagery and repetition, the listener can relate to the main message and have a deeper
understanding of the theme. Despite their emotional and lyrical differences, As She s Walking
Away by Zac Brown
Band and If I Told You by Darius Rucker, both songs portray a lack of courage and similar

In both songs, the repetition of the lyrics draws the listener s attention to particular words and

The Image Of Decrepitity In Bram Stoker s Dracula
What Manner of man is this, or what manner of creature is it in the semblance of a man? (Stoker
23). In Bram Stoker s Dracula, decrepitness is shown by a creature that is slowly decaying and
the only way to be youthful or to be rejuvenated is to take the life of others and send them to an
endless life of decay. This creature, Dracula, preys on the weaker, perfect Victorian. In the epistolary
novel, Dracula, Bram Stoker drills an image of decay and destruction into the audience to show
juxtaposition between Victorian ideals and Dracula.
The ideal of the Lady...is easier to discuss than to define (Elliott A Lady to the End: The Case of
Isabel Vane ). This quote from author, Jeanne B. Elliot, is a simple way of expressing the ideal of
the Lady in the Victorian ages. Furthermore, this statement can be used to show juxtaposition to
Dracula. As a matter of fact, in order to understand the contrasting ideals, from Dracula and his
pursuers, one must grasp the knowledge of the geographical and cultural construction of Europe. To
start with, Dracula is located in Eastern Europe. Additionally, Eastern Europe is seen as a place in
which literature is depicted as:
...a setting which is sufficiently close to the reader to appear threatening [while still being alien
enough] to house exotic paraphernalia the castles, the convents, the caverns, the dark forests at
midnight, mysterious villains and he howling specters. (Raspe)
Interestingly enough, this perspective of the east came from popularization of Eastern Europe
literature in Western Europe. Furthermore, this idea becomes concrete when one looks at the
geography of these two opposing regions. Not only are these two countries polar opposites in
geographical context but in the way each region expresses the opposing sides in literature. On the
side of the West, people are honing in on the act of expanding the mental map. Additionally, this
group of people are more entrenched in the idea of increasing their depth of knowledge for

Reflection Of Impression Management
In life we have who we are on the inside, and who we portray to be. This portrayal of who we are
is called impression management. As stated on WiseGeek.com, Impression management is the
way people influence how others think about something else, usually themselves. People usually
do this either to get something they want from others or to establish an independent identity.
This tells us that what we say and do effects the way aspects in society are viewed. The way I
view myself, and the way others view me may not go hand in hand, or they can be the same. We
try to make ourselves be viewed a certain way through our actions and the things we say. To view
the difference between how I view myself and how others view me, I asked 3 different people their
opinions of myself.
Personally, I am a hardworking and dedicated person who fully commits to a task. When it
comes to school, teaching, and relationships I put in 110 percent in order to be the best I can be.
As an outgoing individual, I enjoy speaking to others to learn from other people s lives. My life
has not been easy, even though others may think it has been a breeze. I have many health
problems, all invisible, that continue to affect my everyday life. After my brain surgery last
January, I have begun to better value my time alive. Everyone has hardships, trials, and
tribulations, but how we use them to build us is another. Due to my life struggles, I am a very
caring and understanding person. I love people, animals and just life in general. I am honest and
will tell anyone my honest opinion even if they do not ask. Long story short, I am not just a
pretty face. I am honest, smart, caring, loving, and I value life to my best ability. While I believe
all of this about myself, others may not see it. For example, if someone were to say I love God
while robbing stores would people view them as a Christian or a felon? Most likely they would first
view them as a felon. In life it is important to be true to yourself so that others can know who you
are as well.
As a sibling, you know your family as well as the back of your hand if you are close. With being
part of a tight knit family, my brothers and I have been inseparable since the day we were born.

Lord Of Sweden, Gustavus Adolphus Of House Vasa
*The character chosen in this letter is one of the sergeant majors fighting alongside the King of
Sweden, Gustavus Adolphus of House Vasa. In this letter, the Swedish soldier documented the
battle fought by their forces, the Protestants, against the Catholic League of the Germans led by
General Tilly. The soldier sent his letter to his father who will spread the news to the rest of the
Swedish people about their victorious battle. I, Sergeant Major John Forbes, am sending this letter
to you my honored and loving father to document the battle that we had fought. It pleases me to
write this good news today, eight day of September 1631, a day after the battle by the authority
given to me by Your Majesty Gustavus Adolphus. Thanks be to God

Upon seeing us marching towards them, General Tilly s forces likewise advanced towards us.
The battle ensued with our forces trying to quell their attacks of pikes, artilleries and cavalries. It
was an exhausting 5 hours long battle as we repelled countless attacks from our enemies. The
General s infantry used mixed formations of around 3,000 gunmen and pikemen, while the others
from them charged with their cavalries. The gunmen formed the outer section of the battle array,
while the pikemen gathered at the center. Cavalries were positioned on the wings of their
battalion and led the charges before the gunmen and pikemen. For our enemies, it was a standard
battle formation. The joint power of the King s army and the Saxons, on the other hand, used more
innovative battle tactics, which made our forces more mobile and agile than our enemies. Our
firing technique was more advanced than our enemy, utilizing five ranks pikemen at the back and
six ranks gunmen at the front. The first three ranks of gunmen fire simultaneously and the last
three ranks served as secondary firepower. This firing technique is very innovative since the first
three ranks had a variety of firing technique. The first rank is kneeling, the second rank is
crouching and the third rank is firing. The simultaneous firing of this three ranks have great
firepower to suppress cavalry attacks, while the secondary firepower coming from the

The Importance Of Ownership And Intangible Objects
Ownership is the act and state of having something in control or possession. Aristotle claims that
owning tangible objects help to build moral character, while Jean Paul Sartre proposes that
ownership extends beyond to include intangible things such as skill or knowledge. Different objects
can have varying effects on the development of selfidentity, leading us to who we grow as a person.
A sense of self can be a reflection to what we own, whether it is a tangible or not. Ownershipof
intangible and tangible objects play a vital role for the growth of self identity, as it teaches crucial
morals in life to develop personal character.
Through the ownership of tangible objects, we as humans, have the ability to attain a perception of
responsibility and the development of moral character. Ownership provides a guide towards
important life lessons such as maturity and responsibility, which eventually contributes to shaping
identity. Responsibility is not a simple skill someone can learn without personal experiences: for ...

Owning a loved pet, or owning valuable memories that can never be forgotten, it proves that
owning these artifacts and characteristics, brings out the unique personality traits of someone.
Someone reminiscing their childhood memories can show the importance or value of having a
childhood. Ownership can truly reveal crucial life lessons you may never learn with the absence
of ownership. The skills you obtain become your identity, which shows how ownership and moral
character associate with one another. Owning something does not specifically have to be a
physical object, as long as you can control what it is. Once I obtain skills and knowledge, no one
can diminish them from my ownership. Though the moment may fade, the memory is everlasting.
Ownership is a critical building block to who are you and who you can eventually become in the

Essay About Duterte
Radical simply means grasping things at the root Angela Davis (Radical Quotes). Throughout
history, radical change meats two things: a chaotic new era where people suffered, or it meant a
prosperous time for the people. During the Russian Revolution, Vladimir Lenin led an uprising
with the people to form a communist government. This radical change brought forth a demise to
the new Russian society and its people as the new system led them to time of economic
depression and poverty. On the other hand, the American Revolution was a radical uprising that
would be the start of the United States of America. As a result, the U.S. today has created a
government that is considered unrivaled in its efficiency. Rodrigo Duterte, a man known for his
unorthodox methods and aggressive nature, is considered a radical candidate in this year s
election. Duterte s actions are heavily criticized as well as his possibility of presidency. However,
despite the many criticisms about Duterte, he is the presidential candidate the Philippines needs to

Throughout the Philippines, The Punisher is a well know nickname. Duterte was given this
nickname for his iron fist on enforcing laws. On a survey taken by students it Silliman, many
students did not know many of Duterte s policies. However, many of the students surveyed
answered that they are familiar with Duterte and his reputation as The Punisher . Also, Duterte has
no regards to the opinions of his opponents and criticizers. During an interview, Duterte claims to be
unfazed to death threats after hearing that drug lords from Iloilo sent mercenaries after the
candidate (Duterte unfazed by death threats). In the same interview, Duterte also said that he is

Retention Essay
Retention is one of the key prerequisites for or outcomes of learning that can either be reinforced
positively as well as negatively or otherwise optimized with respect to how the study time is to be
distributed across sessions. Intuitively, it would appear plausible that, increasing the uninterrupted
study duration would map into superior retention and learningoutcomes. The present paper critically
addresses some empirical findings that could question the unaided intuition along these lines while
shedding light on the interaction channels or trade offs to be defined across a set of additional
explanatory variables.

In other words, achieving a perfect score might either not be an option from the outset or would
alternatively take prohibitively long in terms of fixed duration (which exogenous time constraint
can still be varied at a higher level of analysis as warranted) or observation horizon (which is also
assumed away as if it were fixed and nearly instantaneous).
For that matter, massed or amassed exposure to prolonged session or a series of homogeneous study
setups at a stretch could have some equivalents that are difficult to distinguish between while
possibly concealing some critical nuances that might call for further extensions to the naГЇve
analysis.
In particular, although the study appears to chiefly criticize as overlearning setups featuring highly
homogeneous exposures (e.g. word lists, math problems, and the like), still these might have some
crucial heterogeneity to them that renders even such seemingly unrewarding schemes effective in
enabling the learners to gain an appreciation for repetitive as well as systematic patterns. In other
words, this may cultivate a more holistic perception of the otherwise unfamiliar content (which
domain need not be treated in gestalt or similar terms), with overlaps as well as dissimilarities
being inferred and likely discerned or retrieved over the long haul. This mode of overlearning

Everest Incident Of 1996
May, 1996. Everest. People died, others were abandoned, and those who lived had to suffer with
haunting memories of the mountain. It was nothing short of a catastrophe. It was caused by a
multitude of things, but mostly incompetence, inadequate preparation, unenforced guidelines, and
unfavorable circumstances. Everything becomes a deciding factor when death is involved, and
especially during this perilous expedition.
There are many things that could have been put into play to prevent this disaster. A very important
one is better preparation for climbing. Simple things, like fixing ropes or getting more radios could
have helped immensely, and prevented many deaths. For example, we are shown one possible
effect of something basic being ignored ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The weather, specifically, was awful and intense, so much so that you couldn t differentiate
anyone who didn t introduce themselves. It took a toll on everyone, being such an extreme
blizzard at such an unexpected time. Along with this, everyone was so drained and impaired, and
weren t able to help. This caused a few people to die, as they were unrightfully abandoned; one
example being Beck Weathers. He was left to perish on the mountain about three times, though he
did survive. He suffered a lot, and still does, and due to his unfortunate time on Everest has lost his
hand and a few fingers. The summaries do not lie, when they mention Into Thin Air as being a
story of bad luck . Bad luck was, in my opinion, the greatest catalyst for this tragic journey.
Into Thin Air was very interesting and intriguing for me, most of the way through. I watched a
scene play out, a disastrous scene, and was astounded by the fact that all of it was real. I saw
how all of these perils and dangers played a role in creating this catastrophe, and I realized how
difficult it actually is to get to the top of Everest and survive the descent. It isn t just a simple
climb, nor a trek made easy with technology; an expedition is a life deciding experience, and as it
occurred in this situation small, fixable mistakes, and bad luck, can turn a life long dream into a

Dr. Spock Analysis
As a parent raising a child whom possesses a somewhat socially undesirable temperament I would
attempt to conform them into having a more socially desirable temperament. In the video David
talks about how Dr. Spock says that it is best to parent in a way that feels most natural to us. I can
agree with this statement and do not wish for my children to be a high reactive infant that may
grow into an introverted adult, as Jerome Kagan talked about in the first video. He makes it clear
that just because a child is high reactive does not necessarily mean that they are going to be quiet,
shy, and introverted but they will always think about what makes them feel uncomfortable and
tense. This then causes them to avoid certain situations that they know

Atrial And Ventricular Septal Defects
ATRIAL AND VENTRICULAR SEPTAL DEFECTS
Yulissa R. De Leon
June 26, 2016
BS 104 ME1
Dr. Ali Saleh A ventricular septal defect or VSD is a heart defect. It s congenital, this means that a
baby is born with it. It is an opening or hole in the dividing wall called the Septum, between the
two lower chambers of the heart, right and left ventricles. Ventricular septal defects are the most
common type of congenital heart defects. A VSD allows oxygen rich bloodto pass from the left
ventricle through the opening in the septum. Then it mixes with oxygen poor blood in the right
ventricle. There are different types of ventricular septal defects, the type your child has depends
on which part of the wall between the ventricles is involved. Also the size of the opening or hole
varies. A ventricular septal defect may occur more often in some families, this is because of
gene defects. But most of the time, the cause is unknown. Similarly to ventricular septal defect,
an Atrial septal defect is a birth defect of the heart in which there is also a hole in the wall in the
septum, but instead of dividing the lower chambers it divides the upper chambers of the heart
(atria), here a hole can vary in size and may close on its own or may require surgery as well. An
atrial septal defect is one type of congenital heart defect, in which also the baby is born with it.
For both Atrial and Ventricular septal defect the size of the opening or hole affects how severe the

The art ties into each novel in its own, specific ways. The first piece, which is untitled, shows white silhouettes of Lennie and George standing inside the black silhouette of a rabbit. This shows how their dream, of owning a rabbit farm, was bigger than the both of them, and that to do it, they would require help. • 10. Racial Prejudice And Racial Discrimination During The 1920... A Colorblind America When people refer to America, they typically think of it as the melting pot in the center of the earth. However, for a country that prides itself in advocating freedom and equality for all, the United States has a long history of segregation and discrimination that has long affected present policy. It is clear that racial minorities have been targets of this racial bias for years, and even after slavery was abolished, African Americans continued to face the most racism due to the color of their skin. Thus, by looking at how John Franklin s life experience as a boy scout during the 1920 s illustrates a small peek into the history of raceand ethnicity in America, we can see how racial hostility, and the Anglo Saxon view of a white American identity played a major role in defining the color line in American culture. Consequently, rather than enjoying equal liberties as did any other American citizen, African Americans faced many political, social, and economic discriminations that only proved that race was nothing more than a socially constructed product of hatred. Accordingly, in John Hope Franklin s oral history from storycorps.org, the late scholar of African Americanhistory, tells his son about his days as a boy scout during the 1920 s. The American Dream is something people push for, it takes blood, sweat and tears to become a reality. Even if the dream is simple as love the unique thing about it is, everyone has a chance to have something good in life and everyone should push towards it. The story of The Great Gatsby is set in New York in 1922 and spans over several months. Even though this is the case of the story, the theme of the novel is symbolic of 1920s America in its entirety. What F. Scott Fitzgerald depicts throughout the story is Gatsbys strive and want for the american dream. Near the beginning of the story Gatsbys american dream seems so close but as the story progresses it becomes more and more obvious that his dream is unattainable. The green light in the story exemplifies this. Near the beginning of the story the light is bright and burning and Gatsby is always looking at it but near the end of the story the light is nothing special and is just a light. Mussolini did demonstrate his political skills in winning over a valuable ally through establishing mutually beneficial policies that allowed the state to cooperate with the Roman Catholic Church. However, in consideration of not just early successes and the settlement of the Roman question , but also the policies he introduced after 1929 as well as the anti Jewish laws, ultimately, Mussolini demonstrated pragmatism rather than pure political skill. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The anti Jewish law passed in 1938 was condemned by the Catholic Church, which issued a formal letter of protest to Mussolini. Clearly, this policy was not advantageous to the relationship between the state and the Church, and upset the balance that was previously established. However, this may be explained by the fact that Mussolini s end goal was never to form strong ties with the Church, but to gain the support of the majority of Italians who were Catholic. As his policies, foreign policy in particular, was drawn to an alliance with Germany, he acted in the interest of this relationship, which he deemed to be strategically valuable for fascist rule. Consequently, Mussolini weakened his ties with the Church, and of course in this case, he did not demonstrate great skill in maintaining cordial relations. At the same time, Mussolini still showed the pragmatism that characterised his leadership, for although he offended a valuable ally, he appeased another Germany. Also the fact Lateran Pact restricted the Church s involvement in foreign policy illustrates that Mussolini had been skilful in this arrangement. Again, this goes to show that the long term benefits prove that he had made political decisions that were pragmatic, regardless of the offense he may have caused to the Pope. Ultimately, while Mussolini cannot be fully credited for the cordial relationship between the Church and the state, he did much to ensure that his regime would be given the support from a valuable ally that the liberal government did not have. In considering both the positive and negative policies he proposed, he proved himself to be a pragmatic leader, skilful in the way he harnessed Church support despite his personal disdain for ... Another fox like quality of the French monarchs is the astute way in which Edward IV and others conducted foreign policy. This has been a huge debate ever since zoos have been created. Numerous people believe they are horrid and an issue to animals. In reality, zoos benefit and improve the lives of these animals for a great amount of reasons. To illustrate, zoos promote animal conservation. Most animals that have lived in a zoo never experienced the wild. According to the Conversation, it implies, Everyone believes the wild is a safer habitat than in zoos, despite drastic threats of climate change, increased poaching, and destruction of animal s habitats for palm oil. [1] [2] There are two ways to measure radiation, an US unit and a SI unit. The first unit used to measure radiation is radiation absorbed dose (rad) and it is use mostly in United States. The more commonly used measuring unit in the International Systems of Unit or SI is gray (Gy); 1 rad is equivalent to 0.01 Gy. Gray is also equivalent to one Joules per kilogram; however, radiation is measured in mGy or 1 /1000 of a Gy when measuring absorption of a biological entity. [2] On Earth, the layers of atmosphere shield us from most of the radiation that could ever reach us but not all radiation is filtered like UV radiation. If there was no atmosphere, the high energy particles can rip through the DNA s links and cause mutations (usually in the form of cancer). When a high energy particle affects the DNA/RNA or molecules, it can rip apart links or chains in the DNA /molecules. [3] The links that ripped apart a DNA can cause cancer and can affect chromosomes in the process. This process eventually leads to death if the DNA/RNA or cell is unable to repair the damage bonds. Exposure radiation can cause either an acute or chronic radiation poisoning. [3] Acute radiation is simply one large exposure to radiation either from high energy/ionized or cosmic rays. • 32. Historical Purpose Of Philomena The film Philomena, directed by Stephen Frears, brings to light only a portion of the injustices faced by unwed mothers in Ireland during the mid late 1900 s. Due to such heavy religious regard in the State, if any girl was to get pregnant outside of wedlock, she would be forced to leave her home and live in a convent, referred to as mother and baby homes, where she would endure many sufferings which were hidden from the public eye. Among these miseries, the most heartbreaking one would be the constant fear of the nuns selling your baby through an illegal adoption and never seeing your own child again. After leaving the convent, many of these women would hide their shame and keep this part of their life a secret. The plot of this film follows the true story of a 19 year old girl, Philomena Lee, who suffered such pain and a life of silence and sorrow after her child was taken from her in one of the many illegal adoptions at the Roscrea Abbey, the convent where she was placed upon becoming pregnant. This is not a very wise thing to do because people often feel disappointed and embarrassed for getting their hopes up so high. One good example of this is the narrator in the short story Araby by James Joyce. In his brief but complex story James Joyce concentrates on character rather than on plot to reveal the ironies within self deception. On its simplest level, Araby is a story about a boy s first love. On a deeper level, it is a story about the world he lives in that is full of ideals and dreams. Araby is a story of initiation, of a boy s quest for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Children have to go to Christian school, where the discipline is strict. That can be inferred from the very first sentence of the story: North Richmond Street, being blind, was a quiet street except at the hour when the Christian Brothers School set the boys free. Another thing that can be noticed about the boy s religious belonging is in the way he acts: All my senses seemed to desire to veil themselves and, feeling that I was about to slip from them, I pressed the palms of my hands together until they trembled, murmuring: O love! O love! many times. (p. 434) This sentence can be interpreted as though he does the thing he is used to do every time he happens to be in difficult situation. These facts play a huge role in the forming of this boy s character and his life. Overvalue of boy s attitude towards life in Araby is supported by the circumstances the boy had to face up with that are used as imagery of light and darkness. Darkness is used throughout the story as the prevailing theme. The boy is young and naive and he leads a dull and boring life. Joyce uses dark and obscure references to make the boy s reality of living in the gloomy town more vivid. • 36. Analysis Of Clip Analysis Un Chen Andalou Clip Analysis This clip is from the 1929 movie, Un Chien Andalou. This film uses two specific formal choices that illustrate it s surrealism, including discontinuity editing and close ups. Discontinuity editing in this film went against Hollywood s continuity rules of seamlessly blending scenes together that not only made narrative sense, but visual sense as well. However in Un Chien Andalou, these rules are broken by obscure, random images that don t seem to fit together and lack any narrative sense. In the clip, we see a scene of a man staring at his hand where ants are crawling out of a hole, then we see an image of a person s underarm hair that soon transitions into a picture of a sea urchin. These series of images don t make much sense when put together, yet they illustrate the surreality of the mind and how our thought patterns often lack any significance. The swarming of the ants in the hand is an example of lack of pattern because it symbolizes the fragmented or swarming images of our mind. These scenes are not only non linear, but they are also discontinuous and show that our reality is constantly evolving; we walk away with a different interpretation of the movie each time. Another formal choice that Un Chien Andalou uses is the close up, we see this used in the first few minutes of the clip when the women s eye is cut. The use of the close up in this scene brings this grotesque act to the forefront, where we cannot help but look away every time we see it. 2. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Bram Stoker s Dracula, decrepitness is shown by a creature that is slowly decaying and the only way to be youthful or to be rejuvenated is to take the life of others and send them to an endless life of decay. This creature, Dracula, preys on the weaker, perfect Victorian. In the epistolary novel, Dracula, Bram Stoker drills an image of decay and destruction into the audience to show juxtaposition between Victorian ideals and Dracula. The ideal of the Lady...is easier to discuss than to define (Elliott A Lady to the End: The Case of Isabel Vane ). This quote from author, Jeanne B. Elliot, is a simple way of expressing the ideal of the Lady in the Victorian ages. Furthermore, this statement can be used to show juxtaposition to Dracula. As a matter of fact, in order to understand the contrasting ideals, from Dracula and his pursuers, one must grasp the knowledge of the geographical and cultural construction of Europe. To start with, Dracula is located in Eastern Europe. Additionally, Eastern Europe is seen as a place in which literature is depicted as: ...a setting which is sufficiently close to the reader to appear threatening [while still being alien enough] to house exotic paraphernalia the castles, the convents, the caverns, the dark forests at midnight, mysterious villains and he howling specters. Furthermore, this idea becomes concrete when one looks at the geography of these two opposing regions. Not only are these two countries polar opposites in geographical context but in the way each region expresses the opposing sides in literature. On the side of the West, people are honing in on the act of expanding the mental map. Additionally, this group of people are more entrenched in the idea of increasing their depth of knowledge for personal gain. As stated on WiseGeek.com, Impression management is the way people influence how others think about something else, usually themselves. People usually do this either to get something they want from others or to establish an independent identity. This tells us that what we say and do effects the way aspects in society are viewed. The way I view myself, and the way others view me may not go hand in hand, or they can be the same. We try to make ourselves be viewed a certain way through our actions and the things we say. To view the difference between how I view myself and how others view me, I asked 3 different people their opinions of myself. Personally, I am a hardworking and dedicated person who fully commits to a task. When it comes to school, teaching, and relationships I put in 110 percent in order to be the best I can be. As an outgoing individual, I enjoy speaking to others to learn from other people s lives. My life has not been easy, even though others may think it has been a breeze. I have many health problems, all invisible, that continue to affect my everyday life. After my brain surgery last January, I have begun to better value my time alive. Everyone has hardships, trials, and tribulations, but how we use them to build us is another. Due to my life struggles, I am a very caring and understanding person. I love people, animals and just life in general. I am honest and will tell anyone my honest opinion even if they do not ask. Long story short, I am not just a pretty face. I am honest, smart, caring, loving, and I value life to my best ability. While I believe all of this about myself, others may not see it. For example, if someone were to say I love God while robbing stores would people view them as a Christian or a felon? Most likely they would first view them as a felon. The gunmen formed the outer section of the battle array, while the pikemen gathered at the center. Cavalries were positioned on the wings of their battalion and led the charges before the gunmen and pikemen. For our enemies, it was a standard battle formation. Our firing technique was more advanced than our enemy, utilizing five ranks pikemen at the back and six ranks gunmen at the front. The first three ranks of gunmen fire simultaneously and the last three ranks served as secondary firepower. This firing technique is very innovative since the first three ranks had a variety of firing technique. The first rank is kneeling, the second rank is crouching and the third rank is firing. The simultaneous firing of this three ranks have great firepower to suppress cavalry attacks, while the secondary firepower coming from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Importance Of Ownership And Intangible Objects Ownership is the act and state of having something in control or possession. Aristotle claims that owning tangible objects help to build moral character, while Jean Paul Sartre proposes that ownership extends beyond to include intangible things such as skill or knowledge. Different objects can have varying effects on the development of selfidentity, leading us to who we grow as a person. A sense of self can be a reflection to what we own, whether it is a tangible or not. Ownershipof intangible and tangible objects play a vital role for the growth of self identity, as it teaches crucial morals in life to develop personal character. Through the ownership of tangible objects, we as humans, have the ability to attain a perception of responsibility and the development of moral character. Ownership provides a guide towards important life lessons such as maturity and responsibility, which eventually contributes to shaping identity. The skills you obtain become your identity, which shows how ownership and moral character associate with one another. • 47. Essay About Duterte Radical simply means grasping things at the root Angela Davis (Radical Quotes). Throughout history, radical change meats two things: a chaotic new era where people suffered, or it meant a prosperous time for the people. During the Russian Revolution, Vladimir Lenin led an uprising with the people to form a communist government. This radical change brought forth a demise to the new Russian society and its people as the new system led them to time of economic depression and poverty. On the other hand, the American Revolution was a radical uprising that would be the start of the United States of America. As a result, the U.S. today has created a government that is considered unrivaled in its efficiency. Rodrigo Duterte, a man known for his unorthodox methods and aggressive nature, is considered a radical candidate in this year s election. Duterte s actions are heavily criticized as well as his possibility of presidency. • 48. Retention Essay Retention is one of the key prerequisites for or outcomes of learning that can either be reinforced positively as well as negatively or otherwise optimized with respect to how the study time is to be distributed across sessions. Intuitively, it would appear plausible that, increasing the uninterrupted study duration would map into superior retention and learningoutcomes. The present paper critically addresses some empirical findings that could question the unaided intuition along these lines while shedding light on the interaction channels or trade offs to be defined across a set of additional explanatory variables. Analysis It has been demonstrated (Rohrer Pashler, 2007) that, the aforementioned massed exposure as a matter of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, achieving a perfect score might either not be an option from the outset or would alternatively take prohibitively long in terms of fixed duration (which exogenous time constraint can still be varied at a higher level of analysis as warranted) or observation horizon (which is also assumed away as if it were fixed and nearly instantaneous). For that matter, massed or amassed exposure to prolonged session or a series of homogeneous study setups at a stretch could have some equivalents that are difficult to distinguish between while possibly concealing some critical nuances that might call for further extensions to the naГЇve analysis. In particular, although the study appears to chiefly criticize as overlearning setups featuring highly homogeneous exposures (e.g. word lists, math problems, and the like), still these might have some crucial heterogeneity to them that renders even such seemingly unrewarding schemes effective in enabling the learners to gain an appreciation for repetitive as well as systematic patterns. In other words, this may cultivate a more holistic perception of the otherwise unfamiliar content (which domain need not be treated in gestalt or similar terms), with overlaps as well as dissimilarities being inferred and likely discerned or retrieved over the long haul. • 49. Everest Incident Of 1996 May, 1996. Everest. People died, others were abandoned, and those who lived had to suffer with haunting memories of the mountain. It was nothing short of a catastrophe. It was caused by a multitude of things, but mostly incompetence, inadequate preparation, unenforced guidelines, and unfavorable circumstances. Everything becomes a deciding factor when death is involved, and especially during this perilous expedition. There are many things that could have been put into play to prevent this disaster. A very important one is better preparation for climbing. Simple things, like fixing ropes or getting more radios could have helped immensely, and prevented many deaths. For example, we are shown one possible effect of something basic being ignored ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The weather, specifically, was awful and intense, so much so that you couldn t differentiate anyone who didn t introduce themselves. It took a toll on everyone, being such an extreme blizzard at such an unexpected time. Along with this, everyone was so drained and impaired, and weren t able to help. This caused a few people to die, as they were unrightfully abandoned; one example being Beck Weathers. He was left to perish on the mountain about three times, though he did survive. He suffered a lot, and still does, and due to his unfortunate time on Everest has lost his hand and a few fingers. The summaries do not lie, when they mention Into Thin Air as being a story of bad luck . Bad luck was, in my opinion, the greatest catalyst for this tragic journey. Into Thin Air was very interesting and intriguing for me, most of the way through. I watched a scene play out, a disastrous scene, and was astounded by the fact that all of it was real. I saw how all of these perils and dangers played a role in creating this catastrophe, and I realized how difficult it actually is to get to the top of Everest and survive the descent. It isn t just a simple climb, nor a trek made easy with technology; an expedition is a life deciding experience, and as it occurred in this situation small, fixable mistakes, and bad luck, can turn a life long dream into a ... In the video David talks about how Dr. Spock says that it is best to parent in a way that feels most natural to us. I can agree with this statement and do not wish for my children to be a high reactive infant that may grow into an introverted adult, as Jerome Kagan talked about in the first video. He makes it clear that just because a child is high reactive does not necessarily mean that they are going to be quiet, shy, and introverted but they will always think about what makes them feel uncomfortable and tense. This then causes them to avoid certain situations that they know ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Atrial And Ventricular Septal Defects ATRIAL AND VENTRICULAR SEPTAL DEFECTS Yulissa R. De Leon June 26, 2016 BS 104 ME1 Dr. Ali Saleh A ventricular septal defect or VSD is a heart defect. It s congenital, this means that a baby is born with it. It is an opening or hole in the dividing wall called the Septum, between the two lower chambers of the heart, right and left ventricles. Ventricular septal defects are the most common type of congenital heart defects. A VSD allows oxygen rich bloodto pass from the left ventricle through the opening in the septum. Then it mixes with oxygen poor blood in the right ventricle. There are different types of ventricular septal defects, the type your child has depends on which part of the wall between the ventricles is involved. Also the size of the opening or hole varies. A ventricular septal defect may occur more often in some families, this is because of gene defects. But most of the time, the cause is unknown. Similarly to ventricular septal defect, an Atrial septal defect is a birth defect of the heart in which there is also a hole in the wall in the septum, but instead of dividing the lower chambers it divides the upper chambers of the heart (atria), here a hole can vary in size and may close on its own or may require surgery as well. An atrial septal defect is one type of congenital heart defect, in which also the baby is born with it. For both Atrial and Ventricular septal defect the size of the opening or hole affects how severe the child s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
