ABSTRACT
• The goal of our project is to design a Pothole detection System which assists the
driver in avoiding potholes on the roads, by giving him prior warnings.
• Warnings can be like a buzzer or series of LED, if the driver is approaching a
pothole, or driver may be warned in advance regarding road pothole.
• Due to weather conditions , improper construction and overloading of vehicles the
roads are getting damaged.
• The scope of the project lies , where the irregularity of the road affects public
people .
• This can be used in 4 wheelers , especially for ambulance drivers so that they could
save many lives in time.
Issues and Resolutions
• About 70% of the road accidents in Kerala takes place due to improper
construction of roads and due to unpredictable weather conditions in Kerala .
• With our system the irregularities in roads can be detected and informed ,therefore
the road accidents can be reduced to a certain extend.
• Need of such a safety providing system is becoming essential for current scenario.
• Currently no such devices are available in the market .
Current Status
o From a Single idea we developed almost complete plan to implement such a
system, Image analysis for pothole detection has tested using MATLAB .
o Conversion process from image to digital form has been resolved.
o program coding is the current problem we are facing.
o The project is currently on track without any delay.

Looking Ahead
• We are planning to complete our first prototype by may 2018.
• Risks are involved in utilizing the artificial intelligence technology and
program coding using algorithm through image segmentation.
o Study on neural networks and fuzzy networks has to be done.
o Next step is to develop a first phase prototype.
