2. Introduction
• As the number of urban vehicles are growing rapidly vehicle
theft has become an important concern for all vehicle owners.
• However present anti theft system lacks the tracking and
monitoring system.
• The vehicle anti theft tracking System based on Internet of
things is proposed which can provide all round service to car
owners.

3. Internet of Things
What is internet of things ?
•The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics,
software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data.
•IoT allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure, creating
opportunities for more direct integration between the physical world and computer-based systems, and
resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit.

5. Building blocks of IoT Companies are working on IoT
Samsung, LG, Apple, Google,
Lowe’s and Philips are all
working on connected devices,
as are many smaller companies
and start-up. Research group
Gartner predicts that 4.9
billion connected devices will
be in use this year, and the
number will reach 25 billion by
2020.
5
6. Advantages and Disadvantages of Iot
Advantages
1. Data
2. Tracking/monitor
3.Efficient and Saves Time
4.Money
5.Communication
6
Disadvantages
1.Compatibility
2. Complexity
3. Privacy/Security
4. Safety
7. Existing System
•Various vehicle anti-theft devices have been developed lately, however the result is still disappointing
since all kinds of devices have its drawbacks.
•Domestic and overseas vehicle anti-theft products are technologically classified into three categories:
1. Mechanical lock devices: Steering wheel lock,Hood Lock and tire locks.
2. Car alarm system
3. Vehicle tracking/recovery system:LoJack tracking system, the ProScout GPS Vehicle
Tracking System, the TravelEyes2 Vehicle Tracking System and so on.
•The commonly used vehicle tracking/recovery systems are based on radio signals.
7
8. Proposed System
•To address the limitations of existing systems, an antitheft system is proposed based on GPS , GSM,
Mobile phone and Android technologies.
•The owner will receive a short message sent by GSM module as soon as the
car is stolen, then he can use android mobile phone application to track
down the car.
8
9. Advantages of this system
•Compared to traditional anti theft systems which requires customers to install software and track
position of car on computers; this system uses android phone as client terminal; Hence easy to use
and cheaper.
•The device uses free google maps for tracking the car.
•Client has to pay only for data internet and SMS charges after initial setup
•Doesn’t require maintenance.
9
11. Modules of the system
The system consists of 3 main modules:
1.RFID module
2.GPS and GSM integration module
3.Main Control Module Design
11
12. Radio-frequency identification(RFID)
Radio-frequency identification (RFID) uses electromagnetic fields to
automatically identify and track tags attached to objects. The tags contain
electronically stored information.
The RFID system is composed of two basic components:
1.Tags or labels attached to the objects to be identified
2.Readers to send signals to the tag and read its response.
12
13. • RFID tags can be either passive, active or battery-assisted passive.
• When the owner stays inside the car, the reader receives responses returned by the tag and
transmits a signal control relay to switch off the power supply unit.
• Otherwise, when the owner leaves the car, bringing the tag outside of the interrogation zone of the
reader,the device starts working.
13
14. GPS and GSM Integration module
• After the power supply unit switch on, GPS stores the latitude and longitude
information it collects in E2PROM chip.
• When thieves tries to get inside the car ,types of sensors triggers are:-
(I) Vibration sensors mounted in the doors will be triggered.
(II) Pyroelectric infrared sensors to make sure it’s caused by human factors.
• When both the sensors are triggered GSM(Global System for Mobile Communication)module will
send GPS stored in EEPROM to owner’s phone
14
15. GPS(Global Positioning System)
•Output data using ASCII code contains the latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, data, time, heading
and satellite status information.
•After the system successfully initialized, six integer numbers of degrees, minutes, seconds of
longitude and latitude are stored in E2PROM and updated correspondingly when the position of the
device changes in real time.
•A significant benefit of GPS module working independently is that the accuracy of the data received
each time is guaranteed.
15
16. GSM(Global System for Mobile Communication )
• We used Siemens GSM module in this device , which supports
dialing and sending Chinese messages.
• It works between the frequency band of 1800MHz and 1900MHz,
and power supply ranging from DC 3.3V to 4.8V.
• It also supports Text and PDU format of SMS .
16
17. Main Control Module Design
There are 2 types of Single chip microcomputers (SCM) working independently
1.One is used to acquire the GPS data and store it into EEPROM.
2.Second is when vibration sensors and pyroelectric infrared sensors are triggered at the same
time, another SCM will send latitude and longitude information from EEPROM to owner’s
phone via GSM when both the sensors are triggered.

19. Google Map Locating
• Google's Android offers powerful features that make the development of these applications
very easy.
• Before using Google Map service, we have to apply for an android Map API Key by
registering at Google official website.
• A certain decoding algorithm matching with the fixed string format of the message
content is also needed to extract the longitude and latitude information in string.
19
20. AndroidManifest .xml file
• This file is present in the root directory of an android application.
• This file provides all important information about a particular android app like various classes,
layouts, permissions etc.
20
21. SMS Control Protocol
•When the car is stolen owner can use the android app and send SMS in the format of
“password#ddd# “ to GSM module in the car to perform following operations :-
21
Operation ddd
Locking 001
Unlocking 002
Cutting gasoline 003
22. Testing Results
• When the car is stolen the owner receives the
message which contains latitude and longitude
information.
• Figure shows a short messages received by
mobile phone
22
23. • The owner can open the android application
and clicks on “ vehicle position”. Software
then fetches position from the message and
display the coordinates on map as follows.
• Figure shows the present location of the Car on
Google Map
23
24. Future Enhancement
• With the help of high sensitivity vibration sensors we can detect the accident. Whenever
vehicle unexpectedly had an accident on the road with help of vibration sensor we can detect the
accident and we can send the location to the owner, hospital and police.
• We can extend the use of this system to the car dispatching management field, which has vast
potential for future development.
24
25. Conclusion
• This system is based on GPS technology and GSM technology, cooperating with android
software positioning, which contains a communication platform with remote monitoring
function.
• The owner can simply use mobile phone to locate and monitor the car in real time, which
provides the technical foundation for the development of wireless network vehicle anti-theft
system.
