The document discusses potential images to include in a digipak for a film project. It analyzes several photos taken of the actors with their masks on and off, considering how well the lighting, framing, and mood portrayed suit conveying the concepts of dream, negativity, and manipulation. One image of the character Sam is singled out as particularly intimidating for the inside cover. Branding elements like a parental advisory sticker, barcode, and production logo are also mentioned as standard inclusions to make the digipak look professional.
2. These images were taken near
Sam’s house, which was also
where we took the pictures for
our thriller poster last year. The
lighting in the pictures are very
good and makes them good
candidates for the digipak. It is
essential that we heavily include
our feature artist (David.) Our
teacher also told us to include the
mask in the photos as it is
different to most other A-Level
videos and provides a sense of
unfamiliarity. We also aim to do a
half and half effect by merging
two images together (one with
David’s mask on and the other
off) to show a split personality.
Also the picture at the bottom
would be good as it shows Sam
controlling David but also a form
of conflict.
3. These images were taken at David’s house. We choose
these pictures and think that they should be included in
our video as the concept of a dream is something we
hope to employ. Again the lighting is very good in these
images and the bland Mise en scene contributes to our
actors mind-set of negativity which again is something we
want to introduce. During editing there is the possibility I
could use a blurred linear effect to highlight David’s
characters narrow-mindedness.
The only issue with these two pictures is deciding which one
to use. I feel the one above would be better to use as it
again highlights David’s characters negative mind-set and
narrow mindedness. I also feel in the framing in the picture is
a lot better than that of the one on the right. However the
one on the right can show David’s characters vulnerability to
Sam’s character. One thing that both these images do very
well is contribute to the position of David’s character by
looking down on him. It is almost as if the camera positions
the audience in the position of the ‘puppet master’ played
by Sam.
4. Like David’s character, Sam’s puppet master
should feature heavily on the digipak. His
stalker/puppet master character should be
represented as intimidating in the digipak which
we aim to do with these pictures. His gold mask is
significant as it carries the connotations of status,
compared to that of the black masks that will also
feature in the video.
In both the images the camera really catches the dark
lighting around Sam. I feel the image on the top right is
better simply because it is closer to Sam and his eyes
look more intimidating. This is most likely the image we
will choose to use for one of the inside covers. Whilst he
isn’t the main character he is a stimulant for our
narrative and as a result should be heavily included in
the digipak.
5. These are two potential
images that we could
possibly use. Preferably the
image on the right as the
darker lighting would
compliment our story more
than the brighter one. We
could even use this on the
disk if we erase the
background and have just
Sam and David featuring on
the disk. There was no
specific intention for these
pictures, they were just
taken to give us more
images to work with. I don’t
believe they are images that
are worthy of having their
own slide on the digipak
partly because they are
taken portrait but the fact
there is nothing special
about them, they aren’t
close up on the mask and
6. Just like any album, it is essential that we include certain
branding. The first and most recognisable one amongst albums
is the parental advisory sticker, whilst it doesn’t feature as
much in house it does still feature but it is a sticker commonly
associated with other genres such as rap.
Like effectively every product purchasable we have a barcode,
because it makes a part of the digipak which otherwise
wouldn’t have anything on it and would make it bleak.
Finally we have included our Scenes Productions logo. It’s
simple design means it will feature nicely on our digipak
without becoming too distracting for the audience. Logo’s also
feature on official digipaks and albums so it makes sense for us
to use ours.
