The document discusses two promotional items - a digipak and magazine advert - created for a music video. For the digipak, six images were chosen to promote the video and show its variety. The magazine advert used the same front cover image for recognition and included logos to promote partners. While generally effective, some images had quality issues from editing and could have better shown the two band members.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Evaluation 2: How Effective is the Combination of Your Main Product and Ancillary Texts?
1.
2. Along with creating a music video, we also created two
sources of promotion for it including a Digipak and a
magazine advert. These were called ancillary tasks and it is
something that professional producers do therefore to
appear professional we also took on these tasks.
With the digipak we had to find six images to promote our
music video. We had several pictures then eventually chose
on the final six. We had to choose carefully so we could
effectively promote our video.
The second ancillary task included finding one main
picture with text in order to present our music video.
3. With creating our digipak it needed
to allow the audience to have an
insight into what the music video will
include. Therefore in order to do this
there had to be a variety of different
parts from the video so the digipak
does not make the music video look
dull and repetitive. In each panel of
our digipak includes different
locations, shots and costumes
showing the audience that the video
includes a lot of variety of aspects
that they would appreciate and not
get bored with.
4. Although there are many aspects of our digipak that are effective such as bright
colours, the bold graffiti walls included in our video and both the members, there
are still issues with it. The top middle panel shows the two members walking in a
dark alley conveying attitude. However because of the lighting, we had to edit the
photo quite a lot to show the actors and their shadows clearly. The photo ended up
looking quite strange due to the change of brightness and contrast it did not look as
professional. We had to leave it like this otherwise the picture would come out to
dark an the audience would not see it clearly and properly. We also had a similar
issue with the bottom left panel. This photo of Sarah against the graffiti wall was
also taken in the dark therefore we had to edit it and brighten the shot up. Although
the picture has turned out okay, compared to the back cover where Jess is also in
front of a graffiti wall, it looks a lot different quality than the graffiti wall with Jess.
This difference in picture quality is very obvious which outlines the quality of
Sarah’s shot not making it look as effective and professional. As for the overall look
of the digipak there could have been more pictures including both of the members
due to it being a girl group. By having more pictures where the two members are
together, it tells the audience they are a good groups that look good together which
can effect the way the audience see the group.
5. With our magazine advert, we decided to use
the same image as the front cover of our
digipak so that the audience would be able to
associate both of these products with our
music video. This clearly allows the audience
to know that it is promoting our video and
they would be more likely to watch it as they
have seen the picture on two separate
products. We have included four different
logos at the bottom of the picture. We have
done this to promote our own record
company, Neon Jungles record company and
also MTV And ITunes as they are very
popular and well known associates with
music videos and music. We have put on a 5
star rating from a popular music magazine to
appeal to the audience and also writing ‘OUT
NOW!’ to allow the audience to realise it is
available to buy.
6. Similarly to our digipak, we also believe that our magazine
advert promotes our music video very effectively, however we
do believe it could be improved. We decided to slightly blur the
picture as we thought it would have a unique and different
effect, but we didn’t consider how large magazine adverts are
and this could look like the effect is not intended and the picture
quality just simply is not that good. The font of ‘Trouble’
portrays power and a rebellious nature to the graffiti style font.
However we first intended to use a brick wall and trouble
written in graffiti over it, but due to this aspect becoming too
difficult for us to follow through with as it didn’t come out as
good quality as was planned, but we came up with the idea as
our final product for the magazine advert as it still links to our
theme effectively.
7. We believe that the combination between our music video and our
ancillary tasks has overall been very successful. We have created two
products that we think will promote our record company and music
video well and people would be likely to watch it after seeing these
products. Both of the ancillary tasks have clearly conveyed the themes
presented in our video allowing us to target the correct audience. We
have done this through our choice of recognisable locations, modern
costumes and clothing and with the poses that were included in the
pictures. The shots in the digipak and our magazine advert convey our
broad knowledge of the shots and also emphasis our use of several
different locations. Due to the rebellious theme to our song choice we
thought that this should be portrayed throughout both these ancillary
tasks and overall we believe we effectively implied this theme
throughout these media products through our use of locations, camera
shots and colour scheme.
