Literature Review- Resistance to Change
ORGANISATIONAL CHANGE MANAGEMENT
Assignment 2 Literature Review
It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive
to change. Charles Darwin (1809 1882)

Abstract
Resistance to change is always an obstacle for organisation when they try to implementing change.
But what is resistance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore one could argue that resistance to change is not a response or action that aims directly at
change but rather a failure of building a relationship between the management team and the team
members of the organisation. Thus it is the management team responsible as well for the arising of
resistance to change as it is an active participation of the process.
A change is the process of changing the old way or usual way of doing thing and implements a new
way or different path of doing thing and thus change could create fear of the unknown for the
participants (Mintzberg Waters, 1985)6. In order to make change happen, it is important for both
parties, the change recipient and change agent to actively seeking information, feedback, goal and
objective of change. The key word here would be Communication . By being honest to the recipient,
letting them known of the expectation from the change and the beneficial likeliness that change would
bring to personal gain and to the organisation, this would encourage the participant to adopt change
process (Kim Rousseau, 2006)7.
Is cultural difference a source of resistance to change?
Researchers have proved that there is a strong correlation between change success rate and cultural
values/ belief (Kotter, 19958; Schein, 19929). The concept of organisational change is very closely
linked with the culture context (Schein, 1992)10. Even though there is no hard evidence

Plato s Symposium Essay
Plato s Symposium
What is the meaning of love? What does love feel like? How does love come about? No one can truly
explain it, yet somehow it s understood. In Plato s Symposium, a dinner party was held with the
discussion of love as the main topic. Everyone was required to make a speech, an ode to Love, the
spirit. The philosopher, Socrates gave his speech last, claiming that his speech was merely a repetition
of what a wise woman named Diotima once told him. The speech was a powerful one, but before the
night was over, a drunk Alcibiades entered. He was asked to make a eulogy for Love as well, but
instead, talked about the nature of Socrates. The nature of Love and the nature of Socrates turned out
to be extremely similar. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, he was a vagrant, with tough, dry skin (203d). Love took after his mother, Poverty, with the
trait of a constant need. However, he also had characteristics gained from his father, Plenty. Love
enjoyed chasing things of beauty and value (203d), and was filled with courage, impetuosity, and
energy (203d). He had a desire for knowledge, and was resourceful. Magic, herbs, and words were
skills at his disposal.
Socrates was not the most sensitive or attractive man. He showed up to the dinner party half way
through dinner, hardly caring about his late entrance. He was very blunt when asking questions as
well. Just before Agathon s speech, he asked Agathon a series of questions that almost trapped him
into looking extremely foolish(194b e). Socrates liked to chase things of beauty and value as well. He
was always found socializing with attractive people, and his greatest desire was knowledge. His mind
was bursting with ideas of virtue and wisdom, and it was this wisdom that showed him love.
Socrates had a mind that held the most important and attractive kind of wisdom by far... self discipline
(209a). His self discipline was seen when Agathon described Socrates attitude while under military
service. When food provisions were cut, everyone seemed unable to cope, yet he never complained
once. Then when there was plenty of food, he was able to make it last the longest. He could out drink
anyone that challenged him, but never seemed to ever be

Irish Impact On Traditional Music
In order to make it s impact on traditional music the accordion had to develop a recognizably Irish
style of playing in order for it to be associated with the Irish style of playing. As Irish traditional music
involves a large variety of dance music tunes whose phrasing, rhythm, pitch and structure served as a
crucial element of its particular genre. It might be said that the very construction of the accordion was
suited to these elements particularly well especially the rhythmic element. As the same dance tunes
that could be played on fiddles and pipes were played on the accordion and could still sound the same
even though their sound was in two completely different dialects. Also the dynamic capability of the
instrument is ne of the most

Advantages Of Digital Curation
6. Digital Curation
Digital curation is a continuous process. Digital curation means store, protect, maintaining and
preserving of research work for future use. It is appropriate management of digital information
through life cycle.
The digital curation life cycle comprises of following steps:
a) Conceptualize: In this step included plan for creating digital objects such as data capture and
storage option.
b) Produce: Produce digital objects and allocate metadata such as administrative, descriptive,
structural and technical in this step.
c) Access and Use: In these steps digital objects are designed such a way that users can easily
accessible and use the digital objects. It is noted that some digital objects are publicly available and
some others are password protected.
d) Evaluate and Choose: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
General open file format and proprietary file format are used by user to store the documents on
computer.
f) Storage Device: Storage device like CD ROM, DVD ROM are used to preserve the documents on
digital format.
10. Advantages of Digital Preservation
a)Communication Channel: collect, store, organize and access information digital form via
communication channels is the main purpose of preservation
b) Minimizing the Space Problem: Minimum space is required to preserve the digital documents. Now
a day s information increases day by day due to information explosion. It has only the solution to
preserve the documents in digital format.
c) Digitization:A library digitizes the documents for the purpose of preservation. Library should

Social Class Impact On Class And Social Institutions Of...
Introduction
For my assignment I was asked to discuss the two way interaction between social class and social
institutions of family, education and religion. I assignment consisted of six questions, how social class
impacts family, how family impacts social class; how social class impacts education, how education
impacts social class; how social class impacts religion, and how religion impacts social class.
All of the above mentioned questions are interlinked, which means that it effects and determines the
other questions answer. Family, education and religion plays a big role in the different societal classes.
The goal of my assignment is to determine whether your class has a different impact on your beliefs,
upbringing and education.
How social class impacts family
A similar rank or standing in society is based on their prestige, power, wealth, education, and other
valued resources (Sawhill, 2013). Individuals in a similar social class tend to have the same values,
leisure interests, and attitudes (Sawhill, 2013). We inherit a social position that is based on our parents
or guardians social class. Family resources affect the children s ability to practise opportunities like
higher education, however one can move down or up the social hierarchy in adulthood which depends
on one s hard work, connections, and motivations (Sawhill, 2013).
Social class affects several aspects of family life. Class variations exists in when people marry, how

showing the apes reaction to their new situation. The next morning one ape wakes up and discovers a
black monolith. First the audience does not see why the ape is so upset; a reaction shot shows that
there is something outside the frame that disturbs the ape (Figure 2). That reaction shot makes it
possible to [...] get the entire emotional content of the scene (Brown 24). Music in the form of a choir
is audible and gets louder over time. A long shot from a higher angle reveals the reason for the ape s
reaction a black monolith has appeared in front of the tribe. The appearance of a big black monolith
somewhere in Africa millions of years ago is inherently strange. Furthermore Kubrick enhances this
effect my using eerie music. The apes circle around the monolith in panic but touching it when they
notice it poses no threat to them. Consequently the monolith is shown from an extreme low angle. The
alien monolith is now depicted in an overpowering upshot (Figure 3). It becomes an overwhelming

Sonnet Elizabeth Bishop Analysis
Close Reading of Sonnet by Elizabeth Bishop
Elizabeth Bishop s poem, Sonnet bears little resemblance to its namesake at first glance. Bishop plays
with our expectations, molding the well known sonnet form into something new. She transforms the
meter and rhyme scheme of the sonnet to the point of metamorphosis, but she retains the skeletal
structure of the form; fourteen lines broken down into the customary octave and sestet. Her invocation
and subsequent subversion of the anticipated poetic form provide her with a baseline to branch off
from and without that context, the structure would not have the same effect on the poem s meaning.
The structure of the first line sets the tone for the octave. Bishop begins in media ras with Caught (l. 1)
but immediately undercuts that momentum with an em dash. This structure manifests the instability of
the poem which is then picked up by words such as level (l. 2), wobbling and wavering (l. 5), bevel (l.
11), and wherever (l. 13). This is just the first example of structure reinforcing meaning in Sonnet
Caught (l. 1) also introduces the central theme of freedom and confinement. We see the confinement
motif play out in the octave with enclosed imagery such as the bubble (l. 1) or even the compass (l. 4).
However, instead of explicitly introducing contrast into the first part of the poem, Bishop structures
the sonnet as a progression, first focusing on confinement before moving to freedom. The sonnet as a
progression

Essay about Persuasion in 12 Angry Men
In his article, The Necessary Art of Persuasion , Jay Conger stated that persuasion is NOT about
selling or convincing; rather, it is a learning and negotiating process. Good persuaders use and listen to
ongoing and active discussions (or debates) to learn about their audience and include different
opinions into a shared conclusion. In the movie 12 Angry Men , juror number 8 (Henry Fonda) was
not sure if evidence presented against a young defendant in court left reasonable doubt for a guilty
conviction. The other jurors believed the presented facts and the defendant s background warrants a
guilty conviction. The movie showed how juror number 8 persuasively got the other jurors to review
each fact logically, which led to an unanimous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is critical to identify the tangible benefits and values that really matters to people being persuade.
Effective persuaders consider what is important to an audience and lays his or her position to match
common ground with the audience. This is a give and take process. Effective persuaders also use
testimonies, past and current research, etc and readjust their argument to make them appealing to their
audience. Persuaders must know an audience well enough to know what will capture their immediate
and continued attention.
Juror number 8 was in a situation where there is no common ground between him and the other jurors.
All are from diverse backgrounds and uncomfortably brought together to deliberate the facts in an
open and shut murder trial. Juror number 8, wanting to just talk , kept reconsidering and adjusting his
position with the other juror s positions about the defendant until a common was reach in the
deliberation. Again, this is a give and take process and is effective if properly done right.
The third essential step is presenting evidence to an audience. Conger stated that evidence alone will
not convince an audience to support a position or an idea. Evidence can appear too abstract and not
entirely informative. Persuaders, Conger noted, use stories, metaphors, analogies, examples, etc and
use vivid language skillfully to paint a compelling big picture of their point of view. This approach is
far more effective than stating facts in

George Eliot Research Paper
George Eliot, pseudonym of Mary Ann Evans, was born on November 22, 1819 in Chilvers Coton,
Warwickshire, England to an estate agent, Robert Evans, and Christina Pearson. Eliot was an English
novelist, journalist, translator and one of the leading writers of the Victorian era. Her father believed
that because she did not have physical beauty, she would not get married; therefore, he put more
money into her education. She and her sister attended Mrs. Wallington s School at Nuneaton from
1828 to 1832, where she became influenced by Maria Lewis, the principal governess, who taught her
to accept the idea of God and religion. While she was in school, she learned French and Italian, but
when her mother died, she had to move back in with her father. After her brother got married, he took
over the family house, so Eliot and her father moved to Coventry.
When she read Charles Hennell s book An Inquiry Concerning the Origin of Christianity, she began to
doubt her religion. This novel deconstructs the Bible and demonstrates that all of the miracles could be
explained. Books about the relationship between the Bible and science interested her, which made her
believe that she was free to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She used a male pen name because women were often discriminated during that time period. Also,
female novelists were only seen as romantic authors, and Eliot wanted her work to be taken seriously.
She also had a desire to shield her private life from public scrutiny, and to prevent scandals attending
her relationship with the married George Henry Lewes. Her first complete novel, Adam Bede, was
published in 1859, and was an instant success. People were eager to find out who this mystery author
was, until she revealed that it was her. The revelations about Eliot s private life surprised and shocked
many of her admiring readers, but this did not affect her popularity as a

04 May 2015 How Graffiti has Changed over Time. Graffiti is the act of inscribing or drawing on
walls for the purpose of communicating a message to the general public. The term comes from the
Greek term Graphein, which means to write. Graffiti has been around since men first started drawing
pictures in caves. However, the focus of this paper is not on pre historic or amateur graffiti, but on the
modern hip hop graffiti movement that began in the late 1960 s. The graffiti has two versions: a legal
aspect, in which artists are able to spray paintings and murals of great spectacle and technical. The
illegal side, is where they express their painting in public spaces such as schools, metros, trains,
posters, and wall Streets, etc. Graffiti are a poor choice for people who practiced this objective
because it deny people in follow good roads which is seen a bad self expression and they also may be
expensive, putting pressure on low income families. Controversial, secrecy, and taboo are some points
that connect with graffiti argument where graffiti has changed over the years.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Research Paper
Creutzfeldt Jakob disease is a prion disease characterized by the degeneration of the cerebral cortex,
basal ganglia, cerebellum, brainstem and spinal cord. CJD is classified into 4 types: sporadic, familial,
iatrogenic, and contaminated meat. CJD represents approximately 85% of all human prion diseases .
Although it is common in older ages (50 70), both men and women have an equal chance of acquiring
the disease. Recently, there has been a new variant CJD that is thought to be from the ingestion of
cattle products in Great Britain. The central characteristic that differentiates vCJD and CJD is that it
occurs more commonly in younger people and also has different pathogenic findings. The second

The Role Of Algorithmic Media On Audiences And Society
Algorithmic media have a kind of power, however this power largely remains invisible to the audience
or user who instead interact with the information that the algorithm sorts and delivers. Instead where
this power manifests and consolidates is on platforms that draw the attention of audiences and revolve
around the role played by algorithms. Using institutional theory, automodernity, and the concept of
algorithmic publics, we can start to map out a growing and potential field of research that attempts to
measure and explore the growing role and influence of algorithmic media on audiences and therefore
society. Especially when in the form of platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc. Tarleton
Gillespie (2010) is a vocal critic of the evolving relationship between the new media industries and
their audiences, in particular drawing issue with the use of the word platform , arguing that it provides
a false vision of technical neutrality and progressive openness (360) when the reality is quite the
opposite. Rather than regard platforms as a level playing field we should instead regard them as what
they are, slanted towards the interests of the owner, serving specific commercial needs and interests.
Gillespie argues in a later paper (2015) that platforms exercise considerable power in their ability to
make interventions, whether that involves shaping how the platforms are used, or more importantly
deleting content or users of the platform itself. They internalize the

is fair to say that Radio changed Coach Jones life as much as Coach Jones changed Radio s.
In a few years Radio was able to talk, and was even accepted into T.L. Hannah high school. At first he
spent most of the time with Coach Jones, who had become the Head Coach of the football team and
the Athletic Director, but soon he ventured out into the hallways, and even took some classes. The

Radio changed the lives of many people. He constantly puts others needs in front of his own, and
shows us what love really is all about. He does ever whatever he can to help coach the sports teams at

The doctors could tell if the cells keep mutating or they stop, and they could see if the cancer cells

The evolution of luciferase begins with the LUC gene. mRNA would copy the LUC gene in DNA and
later go to the cytoplasm to do transcription to form the luciferase. The reason that this enzyme
evolved many times in many organisms is because luciferase could be connected with the other
proteins to track where they are going. Moreover, there are many organisms that would glow.
Luciferase is an important enzyme that would help the organisms glow. Because the sequence of the
amino acid chain is different, and different luciferase enzyme would be produced. On this occasion,
there would be different color of the light.
This is the genetic mutation happening during the translation. When there is one amino acid been
changed, it would turn into another color. This change causes the outcome it does because the
sequence of the amino acid chains would affect the color of the light. Although the function of them is
the same, but each of them would have different characteristics. For example, we all have eyes, face,
nose....... although we can tell the functions of them and recognize them easily, however, we all have
different color of eyes and hair, and this is because the sequence of our gene is different. Therefore,
even only one amino acid is changed, the result would be totally

Fraud In Forgery
This essay will investigate the serious problem of forgery and a way of how this problem can be
controlled.
Counterfeit or forged money is an imitation of real money, which is produced without the legal
permission of the government or state. To use or produce counterfeit money is a form of fraud and
therefore highly punished. Forgery has been an issue for a very long time, as it is a problem, which is
nearly as old as money itself. Counterfeiting has a large impact on the economy and society, as it is
reducing the value of real money, increasing the prices due to the fact that more money is circulating
in the economy, and there s also a decrease in the acceptability of paper money. (3)
Forgery is a serious and widely spread problem, as alone in the UK (2009) there were 566,000
counterfeit notes revealed. 95% of these were 20 pound notes. The most common fraud is of one
pound coins, which there were in 2009 30 40 million in circulation of. That would be approximately
2.8% of the total one pound coins. (6) Some fraudsters, like for example McAnea, had or still have the
possibility to churn up to 2 million of forged banknotes a day. ... Show more content on

So the ethics of the fraudsters may not have changed, as those people continue to counterfeit
banknotes, however the ethics and morals of the society have changed. People have become more

Upper Paleolithic Culture
Humans of the Upper Paleolithic era brought about numerous cultural innovations. In this time period
we see the first art in the form of paintings in caves (Cyraboski). With the spark of creativity, the
roaring fire of the first artistic cultural revolution was born. A wealth of new materials started making
their way into the archeological record. For example, clay, used for pots and figurines, and bones,
which were carved into beads and necklaces for personal adornment. The greatest culmination of this
newly born culture is shown in the burial rites of their dead. This is a brand new cultural trait born in
this era.
But how and why did all of these new innovations come about?
Why do humans create art, what purpose does it serve?

Black Loyalist Reflection Ideas
Reflection on the Presentation Indicate what you have learned. Going into this project, I had very little
knowledge about the Black Loyalists of Nova Scotia and knew nothing about their exodus to Africa.
From past school projects, I knew that many Loyalists fled to the Maritimes following the American
Revolutionary War. I had also previously learnt that some Loyalists were freed African American
slaves, however I never realised how incredible their story was. Through this project, I learnt about the
Black Loyalists struggles for freedom and acceptance, the hostile treatment that they endured from
both the British government and their fellow Nova Scotians and their eventual exodus to Sierra Leone.
Unlike other assignments, I was motivated not by marks to do it, but by my own curiosity and interest
in the subject. I found myself engrossed in the information and wanting to go past the ... Show more

This time, creating the powerpoint was not as much as a challenge. Previously, most of the issues
arose because I was using Powerpoint Online which did not have many of the features of the full
version. While creating this powerpoint, I had access to my mother s computer which had the full
version of Microsoft Powerpoint on it. Therefore, I did not experience any of the previous issues, such
as font size, spacing and crashing. However, I did not have enough time to create the works cited slide
on my mother s computer and had to use Powerpoint Online. Again, the program resized the font to an
unreadable size and added giant spaces between each line. When I attempted to change the font to a
more readable size, the program would automatically adjust it to the previous size. I also was unable
to remove the spaces between each line because the spacing feature is not present in Powerpoint

Independence In The Bloody Chamber
As a child, parents are the people who are there to protect and guide us through our path to
independence. However, the lessons are experiences we have to go through in order to fully
understand them. The Bloody Chamber, by Angela Carter, is tales about the main protagonists going
on adventures to find their independence and a sense of self and identity. Many of the young girls in
these fairytales grow up being guided and protected by a parent, but eventually, as innocent girls grow
into young woman, they go on their own paths. In the beginning of the stories, they are all innocent
and naive, but by the end, they come out to be independent individuals. Even though parents are

the first time she started to realize how different she was; although, Wolf Alice didn t know what was
happening because she has no guidance or knowledge to this mystery, it took her many months to
finally figure out how to address this problem. Without the help of others, she was able to discover her

Measurement of Problems
It has been observed that during peak hours, each train is over filled by 3 4 times its seating capacity.
And during peak hours on roads, there are frequent long traffic slowdowns or halts. These busy times
are measured as follows: for local trains the percent full per train and for roads the minimum speed of
traffic. This measurement system can be mapped to measure the effect of solving transportation
problem on the overall quality of life of Mumbaikars. By maximizing the suggested measurement
specifications, a train can be filled up to 1.4 1.6 times its seating capacity and on roads, there should
not be a complete traffic halt (apart from exceptional circumstances) and traffic movement should
maintain a minimum of 25 35 km/h. A solution fails if it does not meet these specifications a minimum
of 95 percent of the time. For calculating impact on quality of life in Mumbai, it is assumed that
transportation problems contribute 15 percent to the overall reduction. If the solution system works
within specifications, it improves a person s quality of life by 15 percent. If the solution fails to

Describe the structure and function of the skeletal system:
The skeletal system consists of the axial skeleton, the appendicular skeleton and many different bones.
The axial skeleton is part of the skeleton, it consists of eighty bones; twenty eight in the skull and fifty
two in the torso. These bones can be found in the skull bones, the ossicles in the inner ear, the hyoid
bone, the rib cage, sternum and the vertebral column.
The picture on the right shows the axial skeleton. The parts in blue is the axial skeleton.
The appendicular is the bones and cartilage that support the limbs. There are one hundred and twenty
six bones in the appendicular system. It consists of the shoulder gridle, the arm and hand, the pelvic
girdle, the legs and feet.
The parts in red in the image are where the appendicular bones can be found in the body.

minerals in the body. The red bone marrow inside some larger bones is where blood cells are

Child Soldiers And Its Effects On Children
The former President of the Uganda People s Congress, Olara Otunnu, viewed the extensive use of
child soldiers as compelled to become instruments of war, to kill and be killed, child soldiers are
forced to give violent expression to the hatreds of adults, ( Olara Otunnu, Advocate for Children s
Rights ). Otunnu elaborates how children are unable to show fear or any other emotion that defines
them as human, because they are forced to follow what their capturers tell them to do. Children in
armed conflicts are captured to be manipulated and brainwashed into doing inhumane actions and are
used as objects rather than being children. The most well known country to adapt the idea of child
soldiers is Uganda in South Africa. Child soldiers are individuals under the age of eighteen that are in
armed forces and held captive as soldiers or any other useful jobs. Both boys and girls play a role in
the use of child soldiers, as girls are commonly used as sex slaves, while most boys are used as
soldiers. The use of child soldiers violates human rights, such as Article four, five, twelve and twenty
five from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The violations of human rights demonstrate
how children are used as objects rather than human beings. Children are forced to become soldiers or
slaves and once captured, they have no right to defend themselves and escape.
A rebel group in Uganda, known as the Lord s Resistance Army (LRA), currently convicts these
violations. This action

Indiana Jones Movie Analysis
China, Vietnam, India, and other Eastern countries are being falsely depicted in a stereotyped way that
is deemed as exhibiting a colonialist prejudice in many of the Western movies. The term for this
wrongful representation of these Eastern countries is called orientalism. The use of orientalism is not
an uncommon thing in western movies, of which, Indiana Jones movies are of no exception. Most of
Indiana Jones movies take place in the Eastern countries, thus, one can see how they orientalized the
citizens and the culture of that country. First and foremost, the portrayal of Goddess Kali or Ma Kali

American Of British Policies After 1775
nformative Writing
American Resistance to British Policies before 1775
There were several ways in which the American Colonies resisted Imperial policy before 1775, which
led to the American Revolution. Britain s taxation and infringement of basic rights of the colonists
unified the colonies. Many significant events, including the Stamp Act, the Intolerable Acts, the
Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party, occurred before 1775.
In 1764, the British Parliament, under Prime Minister George Grenville, passed the Sugar Act, to raise
tax revenue for the Crown. Sugar from the West Indies was taxed. Colonists protested the increased
tax. After taxes on foreign sugar were lowered, protests were refueled by the Quartering Act of 1765.
This act required colonists to provide housing and food to British soldiers.
The next financial crisis for the colonists happened when Parliament enacted the Stamp Act. The
Stamp Act imposed a tax on commercial and legal documents. Marriage licences, newspapers, and
diplomas were included in the Stamp Act. The colonists formed the Stamp Act Congress, in which
nine of the colonies were represented by 27 leaders. At this point the colonists started to come together
when they realized that they were battling a common enemy. The colonists banded together and
stopped buying British goods. This angered British merchants and they too protested the Stamp Act.
The Stamp Act was repealed in 1766. The next tax imposed was the Townshend Tea

Or Fester Like A Sore And A Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes
As the dream for opportunity in the African American community continually gets repudiated, the
hope shifts to hopelessness. Another visual image that Hughes offers introduces the description of a
sore. For example, as Hughes was writing this poem he inquires, Or fester like a sore / and the run? (4
5). The use of sore connotes a painful injury. This simile suggests that both a sore and a dream
deferred are both injuries that cause excruciating pain to the human body. The running of the sore
refers to infection that takes part in the sore. Hughes similarly compares the infected sore with an
infection caused by the dream deferred. Syntax pertains to the arrangement of words in the text
including punctuation, length, and focus. Hughes uses

President John F. Kennedy s New Frontier
For this assignment I chose to write about President John F. Kennedys New Frontier. I will be
discussing what the agenda of the New Frontier was. And how successful was the program. And what
type of policy did Kennedy follow in the Cold War, and what was successful about it and what failed.
After whining the 1960 election, John F. Kennedy proposed new tasks for the United States. During
his inauguration speech, he proposed a new challenge to his fellow Americans to Ask not what your
country can do for you ask what you can do for your country. Many Americans reacted positively
toward his challenge by working towards social justice and in joining the peace corps . The country
stood united and had a positive outlook. In 1957 the latest frontier was space, when the Soviet Union
launched sputnik the first satellite to be positioned in orbit, which took the Americans by surprise. ...

. His inaugural address stressed the challenge between the free world and the communist world, and

A Rose For A Slave Girl By Harriet Jacobs
The book Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, tells the story of a slave girl named Linda Brent who
fought many mental and physical battles throughout her life in order to oppose the system of slavery.
This autobiography was written by Harriet Jacobs, known in the book as Linda Brent, and uses a
multitude of psuedonyms in order to conceal the identity of those within the book. Harriet Jacobs had
succeeded in putting forth a new, unconventional slave narrative that depicted the emotional and
mental anguish slave women were subjected to on a daily basis. Through sexual victimization by their
masters and the ever present maternal fear of losing their children to the slave trade, slavery was a far
more terrible fate for women than for men. Throughout her twenty seven year life of being a slave,
Harriet Jacobs attempted to defy the idea and social structure of slavery at every turn. Harriet Jacobs s
early life was spent with her mother and father, both prosperous slaves. Jacobs states that she was
shielded and never dreamed I was a piece of merchandise (29). When Jacobs s mother died she was
sent to her mother s mistress. This mistress turned out to be quite kind and Jacobs was always glad to
do her bidding, and proud to labor for her as much as my young years would permit (32). Jacobs s
childhood was an important part of her growth, as she found her self worth and confidence; a luxury
most slaves did not have. This concept of self worth will be key in the struggle

The Road In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
The name of this book written by Cormac McCarthy, the Road, can always drive the readers into a
misunderstanding that it is a Road style work. However, it is actually a apocalyptic story which
includes bunch of description and discussion about belief, morality and the human nature. It actually
presents how people will act under a extreme terrible situation when the civilization totally does not
exist. Actually McCarthy is not the only one who uses a lawless environment to analysis the humanity.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding is also a story which puts the characters in a raw environment
and presents their action. These two works have the similarities in the way they set up the stories, the
type of conflicts and the way they end the stories; and this similarities actually show how the things
described in the stories are commonly deemed, and help the two stories to support each other s ideas.
Differ from the Road, Lord of the Flies is actually a war based story. However, even though the
missions of the writing might be different, both the authors make similar settings for the story. In the
Road, the characters are in the environment where the resources and the rules no longer exist. In Lord
of the Flies, the characters are in an island where is also out of anything civilized. It might be doubtful
that how McCathy is sure his description under that situation can be confirmed as logical and real, but
what is described in Lord of the Flies can confirm it. More

Working from home: the disadvantage Tina DiNunzio HRP7110 Human Resources Management Jodi
Smith October 23, 2014 Working from home can sound like a dream come true. However, like any job
situation there are many disadvantages to home employment that may become apparent over time. For
some, this can mean making a few adjustments to make the situation more tolerable. For others, the
disadvantages can be so powerful that they can put an end to the home office (Provenzano). As

The problem is that by working from home, you tend to take yourself out of the running for

you are a freelancer or if you work from home, you might lose sight of these opportunities (Wall). If
you do freelance work, that means you are more of an independent contractor than a regular
employee. Sometimes people with home employment are often looked at as if they don t do real work
(Park). A large majority of the people working at home do not really feel like professionals despite the
size of the work load or opportunities. The main factor here is that, when you re at home, you feel at

Forensic nurses in the emergency room help make the victim feel safe and comforted (A Helping
Hand to Rape Victims). Forensic nursing coursework and training typically include identification of
wounding such as bruises, include training in recognition of patterned wounds, and injuries in various
stages of healing. Forensic nurses are trained to objectively, record a complete chronology of the
injuries from the victim, patient, parent, legal guardian, or caregiver; Forensic nurses are often skilled
at crime victim photography. They also provide a medical testimony in court and provide consultation
to legal authorities (E Notes, Forensic Nursing ). Forensic nurse examiners are gaining recognition in
the court system as good sources of evidence, which leads to higher conviction rates and fewer crime
scene errors(How to Become a Forensic Nurse). It is said that when a victim is being examined it
would be easier for the minority women to be comforted by a SANE who is of their color(the case for
forensic nursing). Statistics show that about 50% of the victims treated are African American and
about 20% of the victims treated are Latina while the other 30% are Caucasian(The Case for Forensic

Research Proposal On The Veil
Research Proposal Muslims and the Veil
Coming the 19th century, a new type of clothing made its way to the Muslim society, this being the
veil. A veil is a piece of more or less transparent material, used to conceal a woman s face and head (
Veil ). After the acceptance of the veil into society, the initial use was to protect women and their
modesty and virtue. However, as time went on, the veil became more of a tool for Muslims to express
their cultural identity. There are multiple different types of veils, or hijabs, including the Khimar,
Chador, Niqāb, and the Burqa ( What is the Hijab and Why do Women Wear it? ). Even though they
are different, they all serve the same purpose of protecting women and their modesty and virtue.
The incorporation of the veil in Muslim society dates back to the 19th century, but has originally
started in the middle east ( What is the Hijab and Why do Women Wear it? ). As a matter of fact, as
religion and culture spread, so did the veil, eventually making its way to Southeast Asia. The veil
started as a way of protection for women, to protect their modesty and virtue. Surprisingly, this belief
goes back to the Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam, which said that women should be modest.
Additionally, this was a universal message, that women should follow these standards ( Muhammad
and Women. ).
The meaning of the veil has changed over time with politics, history, and its significance has never
been static or monolithic (E. Sanders). Like

THE NEW WITCH IN TOWN!!!!!!!
Long ago there was a battle between good and evil. Many lives were taken and many were left
wounded and power less. I was the last survivor! Over 200 years have past and I ve seen friends and
family come and go. Now its different I m getting weaker and sicker so now I need to pass on my
powers to the newest members of our family. That Halloween was he day they got the best gift of all!
The oldest Melinda had the power bend the five elements and teleport. The middle child Misty, got the
power to fast forward and reverse time, and can make clones of her self or others. The youngest
Mandy got the power fly, and also able to read minds. These girls were the new witches in town! I

I said to them, Girls this book is very important it s the Book Of The Craft, it holds every thing super
natural in it. The book also is protected. Evil cannot ever touch the book.
The girls looked at me as if I just gave them a new life. We took out an anathema and pricked our
fingers and each put our bloody finger on the book and as the Earth shook the girls became one and
received all my knowledge and powers. Early the next morning the girl s mother, Melody, went in to
labor. As we got to the hospital my head started spinning my heart fluttered then there was black! As I
slowly gained enough strength to open my eyes, I glanced around the room looking for my family. I
caught a glimpse of Mandy from the corner of my eye.
Come here, I said with a soft weak voice.
What do you need grandma, she said with fear in her eyes.
Get me my diary child.
Ok were is it.
Its at home.
Ok I ll fly there and back real fast just let me get Misty.
As Misty slowly walked in the room I saw another Misty walk past the door before it slammed.
Are you a clone or the real one?
I m the real one grandma the clone is with mom
Ok, I said, will you fluff my pillow?
Sure it s no problem.
Being in the hospital was really insipid. I wish Mandy would hurry up and come back with my diary
so I could wright a little before my time was up. I always had my diary on me and now with out it I
was board.
Ten minuets later Mandy burst threw the doors with a jolt of energy.

Speech On Healthy Food
Ever since I was a kid, healthy food has been a hot topic. My mom had the food pyramid on our fridge
and I remember staring at the thing wondering if I had gotten the right amount of each food group in. I
remember that food pyramid being such a magical tool for healthy eating. That was before the
Internet. Now we have a ton of information at our fingertips about how to eat, what to eat, and when
to eat. Everyone has a different idea on what healthy food is, but if we are honest with ourselves, we
pretty much know the basics of eating healthy. Following are some quotes on healthy food that may
remind you what healthy food is really all about and inspire you to eat more of it. [poll id= 7 ] 1.
Healthy Food Is Accessible For Many Of Us Support a strong and healthy food system by supporting
our local farmers! Danielle Nierenberg Most of us have a farmer s market close enough to us that we
can make it there. It s important to go to these markets or buy from our local farmers. Why? Well, for
one, they sell all those healthy foods that we should be eating. And those foods are in season, which
means they are fresh and are not covered in preservatives to make them last longer than they should.
For instance, if your farmer s market has a fruit stand, and apples are there, buy them! Apples you buy
in the supermarket travel long distances and are treated with chemicals and wax so that they will last
up to a year. Why eat apples with chemicals when you can buy apples that were

Trigger Warnings Examples
Trigger warnings are being enforced around America in hopes of improving the way college students
learn. Trigger warnings originated on the internet as a way to flag certain material that could be
harmful to others. Many professors are now pushing for trigger warnings as a way to warn students
that ideas within their material could offend or emotionally harm them. While they are being
implemented across the country, their effects on students are proving to be more harmful than helpful
because they often hinder students education rather than further develop it. Applying trigger warnings
may cause professors to choose to negatively alter their material in order to attempt to teach it without
offending his or her students. In the article Survey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They allow a colleges to coddle students. One instance of this can come from the article Con: Trigger
Warnings Impose Censorship in the Name of Sensitivity. Donald A. Downs, author and professor of
political science, law, and journalism at the University of Wisconsin, explains how trigger warnings
can negatively affect students. Downs states, Education should expose students to the depths of the
human condition, which unavoidably involves matters of good and evil, life and death. He then
claims, Trigger warnings assume that many students are not capable of handling the responsibilities of
adult citizenship. Students cannot possibly be expected to mentally or emotionally grow when they are
constantly being sheltered from the real world and all of its sometimes painful disputes. Trigger
warnings cater to the sensitive students and grant them no room to grow up on their own. Many
colleges are being overwhelmed by the positive effects that may come with trigger warnings, they
should heavily consider the negative ones as well. Enforcing trigger warnings in hopes of furthering
college education would unleash a surge of flaws into a school. Though trigger warnings may have
few upsides, if put into action they will prove themselves to be destructive to a school s learning

Summary Of The Construction Of Ghetto
In the article The Construction of the Ghetto by Massey and Denton, there are several policies and
practices that still has its effect on racial structure today. Among the several practices and policies are
the Government Issue (GI) Bill for veterans and housing loans. At a political view, the GI Bill for
veterans helped them buy houses at a lower price due to their contribution in the war. Since White
veterans have the GI Bill, they moved out to the suburbs during 1940 1970, which was during the time
of suburbanization. Because Black veterans did not receive the GI Bill, they were unable to move out
and buy houses. This effect is still present today, considering that in the statistics, Blacks are less
likely than Whites to own houses.

Examples Of Reflexive Anthropology
The Devlopment of Reflexive Anthropology
Reflexive anthropology has pressured scholoars to recognize their own biases and look increasingly
inwards when studying other cultures. Reflexive anthropology is a break away from the traditional
study of a clearly defined us and them, that seeks to shift towards indentification rather than
difference. It attempts to uncover the politics behind ethnography. Reflexivity shows how we are
effected by others , and how others are effected by us. It holds anthropologists accountable for what
they write, and how they represent culture. Anthropologists like Dorinne Kondo and Renato Rosaldo
have greatly influenced the devlopment of reflexive anthropology through their enthnographies. ...

They attempted to erase her American ways, and replace them with Japanese ways. In realizing the
ways that they had imposed upon her, Kondo realized how too often academics impose upon the
people that they are studying. She says that In searching for structure to impose on experience, one all
too readily reduces the complex to the readily apprehensible, assuming authority and control over one
s informants to make them fit into one s own categories, according to one s own motives (82).
Kondo argues that writing ethnography is a way for the writer to reencounter the other safely . Going
through the entire process of her experince with the informants allows the author to place herself into
the text, and allows her to address herself. Encourpoating the ethnographer s personalized experiences
into the writing puts the person at a certain level of vulnerability. They are, in many ways, just as
vulnerable as the people they are studying when so much of their personhood is included into the
book. However, such notions cannot be taken too far. It is dangerous for an author to believe that s/he
can fully understand how their informants think and feel just because they experience similar feelings,
such as vulnerability.
Rosaldo, for example, believes that he has new insight into the lives of Ilongot men and their reasons
for cutting off human heads. His work,

Alice G. Martin s Game Of Thrones
For nearly six seasons now, Americans have sat, captivated, in front of their television screens on
Sunday evenings, while men fought to the death for a throne, for honor, women, family and
vengeance. They have watched a timid young girl become a queen. The illegitimate son of a Northern
noble house has risen through the ranks, only to be assassinated, and brought back from the other side.
Viewers have watched their favorite characters be executed, persecuted, prosecuted, raped,
assassinated, maimed, humiliated and murdered. They have yelled at their television screens, cried for
the beloved characters that have been lost, and cussed and swore they would never watch it again. Yet,
next Sunday rolls around, and there they are, planted on the couch, nervous with anticipation over who
we may lose, or who may be victorious this week.
This show that has caused viewers such anguish and intrigue is Game of Thrones, the hit HBO series
based on George RR Martin s book series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Game of Thrones is one of the ...

Alice G. Walton of Forbes Magazine has some ideas about what it is that keeps viewers coming back.
Walton claims that there are the obvious hooks of swordfights, sex, nakedness and overall intrigue.
These elements combine with the fantasy aspects, such as Daenerys s dragons and Melisandre s blood
magic, to create a type of make believe escapism for viewers. This obviously is not the same type of
make believe escapism that children experience with Disney, however. Game of Thrones runs deeper
and offers more to viewers than just this escapism. It forces them to become intimately acquainted
with the characters by teaching their histories, their struggles, failures, accomplishments, and their
motivations and then it twists and shows viewers that they really have no idea what is going on. It is
this manipulation that is one of the major aspects that makes this show

  • 2. Literature Review- Resistance to Change ORGANISATIONAL CHANGE MANAGEMENT Assignment 2 Literature Review It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change. Charles Darwin (1809 1882) Term 2, 2013 Prepared By: Kien Khang LIEU Table of Contents Abstract Resistance to change is always an obstacle for organisation when they try to implementing change. But what is resistance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore one could argue that resistance to change is not a response or action that aims directly at change but rather a failure of building a relationship between the management team and the team members of the organisation. Thus it is the management team responsible as well for the arising of resistance to change as it is an active participation of the process. A change is the process of changing the old way or usual way of doing thing and implements a new way or different path of doing thing and thus change could create fear of the unknown for the participants (Mintzberg Waters, 1985)6. In order to make change happen, it is important for both parties, the change recipient and change agent to actively seeking information, feedback, goal and objective of change. The key word here would be Communication . By being honest to the recipient, letting them known of the expectation from the change and the beneficial likeliness that change would bring to personal gain and to the organisation, this would encourage the participant to adopt change process (Kim Rousseau, 2006)7. Is cultural difference a source of resistance to change? Researchers have proved that there is a strong correlation between change success rate and cultural values/ belief (Kotter, 19958; Schein, 19929). The concept of organisational change is very closely linked with the culture context (Schein, 1992)10. Even though there is no hard evidence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Plato s Symposium Essay Plato s Symposium What is the meaning of love? What does love feel like? How does love come about? No one can truly explain it, yet somehow it s understood. In Plato s Symposium, a dinner party was held with the discussion of love as the main topic. Everyone was required to make a speech, an ode to Love, the spirit. The philosopher, Socrates gave his speech last, claiming that his speech was merely a repetition of what a wise woman named Diotima once told him. The speech was a powerful one, but before the night was over, a drunk Alcibiades entered. He was asked to make a eulogy for Love as well, but instead, talked about the nature of Socrates. Magic, herbs, and words were skills at his disposal. Socrates was not the most sensitive or attractive man. He showed up to the dinner party half way through dinner, hardly caring about his late entrance. He was very blunt when asking questions as well. Just before Agathon s speech, he asked Agathon a series of questions that almost trapped him into looking extremely foolish(194b e). Socrates liked to chase things of beauty and value as well. He was always found socializing with attractive people, and his greatest desire was knowledge. His mind was bursting with ideas of virtue and wisdom, and it was this wisdom that showed him love. Socrates had a mind that held the most important and attractive kind of wisdom by far... self discipline (209a). It might be said that the very construction of the accordion was suited to these elements particularly well especially the rhythmic element. Introduction For my assignment I was asked to discuss the two way interaction between social class and social institutions of family, education and religion. I assignment consisted of six questions, how social class impacts family, how family impacts social class; how social class impacts education, how education impacts social class; how social class impacts religion, and how religion impacts social class. All of the above mentioned questions are interlinked, which means that it effects and determines the other questions answer. Family, education and religion plays a big role in the different societal classes. The goal of my assignment is to determine whether your class has a different impact on your beliefs, upbringing and education. How social class impacts family A similar rank or standing in society is based on their prestige, power, wealth, education, and other valued resources (Sawhill, 2013). Individuals in a similar social class tend to have the same values, leisure interests, and attitudes (Sawhill, 2013). • 9. Sonnet Elizabeth Bishop Analysis Close Reading of Sonnet by Elizabeth Bishop Elizabeth Bishop s poem, Sonnet bears little resemblance to its namesake at first glance. Bishop plays with our expectations, molding the well known sonnet form into something new. She transforms the meter and rhyme scheme of the sonnet to the point of metamorphosis, but she retains the skeletal structure of the form; fourteen lines broken down into the customary octave and sestet. Her invocation and subsequent subversion of the anticipated poetic form provide her with a baseline to branch off from and without that context, the structure would not have the same effect on the poem s meaning. The structure of the first line sets the tone for the octave. Bishop begins in media ras with Caught (l. 1) but immediately undercuts that momentum with an em dash. This structure manifests the instability of the poem which is then picked up by words such as level (l. 2), wobbling and wavering (l. 5), bevel (l. 11), and wherever (l. 13). This is just the first example of structure reinforcing meaning in Sonnet Caught (l. 1) also introduces the central theme of freedom and confinement. We see the confinement motif play out in the octave with enclosed imagery such as the bubble (l. 1) or even the compass (l. 4). However, instead of explicitly introducing contrast into the first part of the poem, Bishop structures the sonnet as a progression, first focusing on confinement before moving to freedom. Essay about Persuasion in 12 Angry Men In his article, The Necessary Art of Persuasion , Jay Conger stated that persuasion is NOT about selling or convincing; rather, it is a learning and negotiating process. Good persuaders use and listen to ongoing and active discussions (or debates) to learn about their audience and include different opinions into a shared conclusion. In the movie 12 Angry Men , juror number 8 (Henry Fonda) was not sure if evidence presented against a young defendant in court left reasonable doubt for a guilty conviction. The other jurors believed the presented facts and the defendant s background warrants a guilty conviction. It is critical to identify the tangible benefits and values that really matters to people being persuade. Effective persuaders consider what is important to an audience and lays his or her position to match common ground with the audience. This is a give and take process. Effective persuaders also use testimonies, past and current research, etc and readjust their argument to make them appealing to their audience. Persuaders must know an audience well enough to know what will capture their immediate and continued attention. Juror number 8 was in a situation where there is no common ground between him and the other jurors. All are from diverse backgrounds and uncomfortably brought together to deliberate the facts in an open and shut murder trial. Juror number 8, wanting to just talk , kept reconsidering and adjusting his position with the other juror s positions about the defendant until a common was reach in the deliberation. Again, this is a give and take process and is effective if properly done right. The third essential step is presenting evidence to an audience. Conger stated that evidence alone will not convince an audience to support a position or an idea. Evidence can appear too abstract and not entirely informative. Persuaders, Conger noted, use stories, metaphors, analogies, examples, etc and use vivid language skillfully to paint a compelling big picture of their point of view. George Eliot Research Paper George Eliot, pseudonym of Mary Ann Evans, was born on November 22, 1819 in Chilvers Coton, Warwickshire, England to an estate agent, Robert Evans, and Christina Pearson. Eliot was an English novelist, journalist, translator and one of the leading writers of the Victorian era. Her father believed that because she did not have physical beauty, she would not get married; therefore, he put more money into her education. She and her sister attended Mrs. Wallington s School at Nuneaton from 1828 to 1832, where she became influenced by Maria Lewis, the principal governess, who taught her to accept the idea of God and religion. While she was in school, she learned French and Italian, but when her mother died, she had to move back in with her father. After her brother got married, he took over the family house, so Eliot and her father moved to Coventry. When she read Charles Hennell s book An Inquiry Concerning the Origin of Christianity, she began to doubt her religion. The Role Of Algorithmic Media On Audiences And Society Algorithmic media have a kind of power, however this power largely remains invisible to the audience or user who instead interact with the information that the algorithm sorts and delivers. Instead where this power manifests and consolidates is on platforms that draw the attention of audiences and revolve around the role played by algorithms. Using institutional theory, automodernity, and the concept of algorithmic publics, we can start to map out a growing and potential field of research that attempts to measure and explore the growing role and influence of algorithmic media on audiences and therefore society. Especially when in the form of platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc. Tarleton Gillespie (2010) is a vocal critic of the evolving relationship between the new media industries and their audiences, in particular drawing issue with the use of the word platform , arguing that it provides a false vision of technical neutrality and progressive openness (360) when the reality is quite the opposite. Rather than regard platforms as a level playing field we should instead regard them as what they are, slanted towards the interests of the owner, serving specific commercial needs and interests. The doctors could tell if the cells keep mutating or they stop, and they could see if the cancer cells spread out to the other parts of the body. The evolution of luciferase begins with the LUC gene. mRNA would copy the LUC gene in DNA and later go to the cytoplasm to do transcription to form the luciferase. The reason that this enzyme evolved many times in many organisms is because luciferase could be connected with the other proteins to track where they are going. Moreover, there are many organisms that would glow. Luciferase is an important enzyme that would help the organisms glow. Because the sequence of the amino acid chain is different, and different luciferase enzyme would be produced. On this occasion, there would be different color of the light. This is the genetic mutation happening during the translation. When there is one amino acid been changed, it would turn into another color. This change causes the outcome it does because the sequence of the amino acid chains would affect the color of the light. Although the function of them is the same, but each of them would have different characteristics. For example, we all have eyes, face, nose....... although we can tell the functions of them and recognize them easily, however, we all have different color of eyes and hair, and this is because the sequence of our gene is different. Therefore, even only one amino acid is changed, the result would be totally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Fraud In Forgery This essay will investigate the serious problem of forgery and a way of how this problem can be controlled. Counterfeit or forged money is an imitation of real money, which is produced without the legal permission of the government or state. To use or produce counterfeit money is a form of fraud and therefore highly punished. Forgery has been an issue for a very long time, as it is a problem, which is nearly as old as money itself. Counterfeiting has a large impact on the economy and society, as it is reducing the value of real money, increasing the prices due to the fact that more money is circulating in the economy, and there s also a decrease in the acceptability of paper money. (3) Forgery is a serious and widely spread problem, as alone in the UK (2009) there were 566,000 counterfeit notes revealed. 95% of these were 20 pound notes. The most common fraud is of one pound coins, which there were in 2009 30 40 million in circulation of. That would be approximately 2.8% of the total one pound coins. Otunnu elaborates how children are unable to show fear or any other emotion that defines them as human, because they are forced to follow what their capturers tell them to do. Children in armed conflicts are captured to be manipulated and brainwashed into doing inhumane actions and are used as objects rather than being children. The most well known country to adapt the idea of child soldiers is Uganda in South Africa. Child soldiers are individuals under the age of eighteen that are in armed forces and held captive as soldiers or any other useful jobs. Both boys and girls play a role in the use of child soldiers, as girls are commonly used as sex slaves, while most boys are used as soldiers. The use of child soldiers violates human rights, such as Article four, five, twelve and twenty five from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The violations of human rights demonstrate how children are used as objects rather than human beings. American Of British Policies After 1775 nformative Writing American Resistance to British Policies before 1775 There were several ways in which the American Colonies resisted Imperial policy before 1775, which led to the American Revolution. Britain s taxation and infringement of basic rights of the colonists unified the colonies. Many significant events, including the Stamp Act, the Intolerable Acts, the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party, occurred before 1775. In 1764, the British Parliament, under Prime Minister George Grenville, passed the Sugar Act, to raise tax revenue for the Crown. Sugar from the West Indies was taxed. Colonists protested the increased tax. After taxes on foreign sugar were lowered, protests were refueled by the Quartering Act of 1765. This act required colonists to provide housing and food to British soldiers. The next financial crisis for the colonists happened when Parliament enacted the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act imposed a tax on commercial and legal documents. Marriage licences, newspapers, and diplomas were included in the Stamp Act. The colonists formed the Stamp Act Congress, in which nine of the colonies were represented by 27 leaders. At this point the colonists started to come together when they realized that they were battling a common enemy. The colonists banded together and stopped buying British goods. This angered British merchants and they too protested the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was repealed in 1766. The next tax imposed was the Townshend Tea ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Rose For A Slave Girl By Harriet Jacobs The book Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, tells the story of a slave girl named Linda Brent who fought many mental and physical battles throughout her life in order to oppose the system of slavery. This autobiography was written by Harriet Jacobs, known in the book as Linda Brent, and uses a multitude of psuedonyms in order to conceal the identity of those within the book. Harriet Jacobs had succeeded in putting forth a new, unconventional slave narrative that depicted the emotional and mental anguish slave women were subjected to on a daily basis. Through sexual victimization by their masters and the ever present maternal fear of losing their children to the slave trade, slavery was a far more terrible fate for women than for men. Throughout her twenty seven year life of being a slave, Harriet Jacobs attempted to defy the idea and social structure of slavery at every turn. Harriet Jacobs s early life was spent with her mother and father, both prosperous slaves. Jacobs states that she was shielded and never dreamed I was a piece of merchandise (29). Differ from the Road, Lord of the Flies is actually a war based story. However, even though the missions of the writing might be different, both the authors make similar settings for the story. In the Road, the characters are in the environment where the resources and the rules no longer exist. In Lord of the Flies, the characters are in an island where is also out of anything civilized. It might be doubtful that how McCathy is sure his description under that situation can be confirmed as logical and real, but what is described in Lord of the Flies can confirm it. More ... Home employment is sometimes not taken seriously by prospective employers, and it can be viewed as a gap in the resume (Provenzano). If you are a freelancer or if you work from home, you might lose sight of these opportunities (Wall). If you do freelance work, that means you are more of an independent contractor than a regular employee. Sometimes people with home employment are often looked at as if they don t do real work (Park). • 43. Research Proposal On The Veil Research Proposal Muslims and the Veil Coming the 19th century, a new type of clothing made its way to the Muslim society, this being the veil. A veil is a piece of more or less transparent material, used to conceal a woman s face and head ( Veil ). After the acceptance of the veil into society, the initial use was to protect women and their modesty and virtue. However, as time went on, the veil became more of a tool for Muslims to express their cultural identity. There are multiple different types of veils, or hijabs, including the Khimar, Chador, Niqāb, and the Burqa ( What is the Hijab and Why do Women Wear it? ). Even though they are different, they all serve the same purpose of protecting women and their modesty and virtue. The incorporation of the veil in Muslim society dates back to the 19th century, but has originally started in the middle east ( What is the Hijab and Why do Women Wear it? ). As a matter of fact, as religion and culture spread, so did the veil, eventually making its way to Southeast Asia. The veil started as a way of protection for women, to protect their modesty and virtue. Surprisingly, this belief goes back to the Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam, which said that women should be modest. Additionally, this was a universal message, that women should follow these standards ( Muhammad and Women. ). The meaning of the veil has changed over time with politics, history, and its significance has never been static or monolithic (E. Sanders). Like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Trigger warnings originated on the internet as a way to flag certain material that could be harmful to others. Many professors are now pushing for trigger warnings as a way to warn students that ideas within their material could offend or emotionally harm them. While they are being implemented across the country, their effects on students are proving to be more harmful than helpful because they often hinder students education rather than further develop it. Donald A. Downs, author and professor of political science, law, and journalism at the University of Wisconsin, explains how trigger warnings can negatively affect students. Downs states, Education should expose students to the depths of the human condition, which unavoidably involves matters of good and evil, life and death. He then claims, Trigger warnings assume that many students are not capable of handling the responsibilities of adult citizenship. Students cannot possibly be expected to mentally or emotionally grow when they are constantly being sheltered from the real world and all of its sometimes painful disputes. Trigger warnings cater to the sensitive students and grant them no room to grow up on their own. Many colleges are being overwhelmed by the positive effects that may come with trigger warnings, they should heavily consider the negative ones as well. Enforcing trigger warnings in hopes of furthering college education would unleash a surge of flaws into a school. Summary Of The Construction Of Ghetto In the article The Construction of the Ghetto by Massey and Denton, there are several policies and practices that still has its effect on racial structure today. Among the several practices and policies are the Government Issue (GI) Bill for veterans and housing loans. At a political view, the GI Bill for veterans helped them buy houses at a lower price due to their contribution in the war. Since White veterans have the GI Bill, they moved out to the suburbs during 1940 1970, which was during the time of suburbanization. Because Black veterans did not receive the GI Bill, they were unable to move out and buy houses. Reflexive anthropology is a break away from the traditional study of a clearly defined us and them, that seeks to shift towards indentification rather than difference. It attempts to uncover the politics behind ethnography. Reflexivity shows how we are effected by others , and how others are effected by us. In realizing the ways that they had imposed upon her, Kondo realized how too often academics impose upon the people that they are studying. She says that In searching for structure to impose on experience, one all too readily reduces the complex to the readily apprehensible, assuming authority and control over one s informants to make them fit into one s own categories, according to one s own motives (82). Kondo argues that writing ethnography is a way for the writer to reencounter the other safely . Going through the entire process of her experince with the informants allows the author to place herself into the text, and allows her to address herself. Encourpoating the ethnographer s personalized experiences into the writing puts the person at a certain level of vulnerability. They are, in many ways, just as vulnerable as the people they are studying when so much of their personhood is included into the book. However, such notions cannot be taken too far. It is dangerous for an author to believe that s/he can fully understand how their informants think and feel just because they experience similar feelings, such as vulnerability.
