Ancient World Exhibitions
Although the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts collection holds many treasures from a
variety of eras and cultures, three pertained most to this course. Within the Ancient World
exhibit, a Cycladic Idol, a Roman copy of Greek artist Praxiteles s statue of Aphrodite, and a Red
figure Krater are on display. All three artworks trace the progression of Greek culture and the
later Romans who imitated much of Greek culture and art. The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine
Arts, or MFA, is curated both by era and by culture. For example, the Ancient World room
contains art from a particular time period and a variety of cultures; however, the Art of the
Americas room is made up of art from a specific culture over a large amount of time. All of the
works mentioned above were placed within the Ancient World room. The curator chose to place
the statue of Aphrodite on a pedestal in the center of the room, so it is the first thing visitors see
when they enter the room. To its right, the Cycladic idol and other sculptures from the ancient
world are on display. At the other end of the room, a collection of Ancient Greek and... Show more

The purpose of such marble figurines is a mystery, although it is assumed they served a
mortuary purpose due their being found in graves (Sayre, 2008). Not much is known about this
early civilization that occupied the Cyclades, a group of islands in the Aegean Sea ( Early
Cycladic, 2000). What little historians do know came from figures like this one, ranging in size
from a few inches tall to life sized (Sayre, 2008). According to scientific analysis, many of the
sculptures were once painted, especially those of the Spedos type like the MFA s example ( Early
Cycladic, 2000). Cycladic figurines are the earliest and only known depictions of nude females in
Greek art preceding Praxiteles nude Aphrodite in the 4th century B.C.E ( Anonymous, Cycladic,

Strategic It Changes, Predicted Benefits, And Opportunity...
6.HBL Strategic IT Changes, Predicted Benefits, and Opportunity Cost:
Strategic HR ideas are difficult to implement as the HBL s HR system is outdated when compared
to the relatively newly established banks within the country. HBL engaged IBM s consultants to
provide them a new system. This system was capable of functionalities including:
An employee can see his/her basic data which includes basic profile, previous performance review,
annual leave, payroll, academic and professional qualifications, vocational training and archived of
achievements on various projects employees have worked during the number of years.
The objective to implement such ERP system was to develop a skills data bank within HR
department that can make it self sufficient for future work related resource allocations and could
direct the leaders into the right way to utilize the workforce as per their specialist skills. As per top
management predictions, once implemented the system could generate quantifiable synergies and a
resultant competitive advantage over rivals. The software could also be used for budgetary controls
over recruitment costs and help to identify the short term and long term employee training needs
without any policy constraints HBL currently have due to its bureaucratic culture. This way the
bank could have developed the swift response to its future workforce needs and help strengthen the
long term business sustainability in line with its corporate objectives.

important to decrease the lag period in industry to increase the productivity. To decrease the period
of lag phase some used to inoculate with exponential phase cell, pre acclimate inoculum in growth

exponential phase, cells already adjusted to the surrounding and already begin to develop and

Aviophobia And Phobia
Introduction
Air travel is an incredibly useful mode of transportation that enables practically anyone in the
world to go practically anywhere they want to. Unfortunately, for some people, it is not as simple
and as wonderful as it sounds. Although it is now counted amongst one of the safest ways to
travel, many individuals have what is called aviophobia: The fear of flying in an airplane (Faraci,
Triscari, Catalisano, D Angelo Urso, 2015). Indeed, phobiaof flying is a specific phobia that affects
around 25% of the population in varying degrees (Hirsch, 2012). While most people don t catch
flights every day, this phobia can still have countless negative effects on affected individuals
daily lives. Centered on the main common fears of plane crash and turbulence, symptoms can
range from severe anxiousness to full blown panic attacks (Hirsch, 2012) which explain why
individuals will go to great lengths if it will allow them to avoid having to endure such distress.
When it seems as though catching a flight will be inevitable, individuals with aviophobia might
resort to self medication with alcohol or mild sedatives (Hirsch, 2012). The following design
assignment will describe a procedure that hopes to make the lives of those with aviophobia easier
and allow them to utilize air travel while avoiding distress.
Treatment Options
In the past, treatment for phobias such as aviophobia were centered around various forms of
systematic desensitization primarily practiced with

Delight In The Iliad
According to what Edmund Burke demonstrated in his On the Sublime and the Beautiful, 1756,
two terminologies, delight and sublime , were defined. As declaring that the self preservation
would eventually lead to pain and danger, Edmund says that people are delightful when they have a
clear sense of the consequences of self preservation, but are not affected by them; meanwhile,
sublime excites the delight . By connecting these definitions to the Homeric Hymn, I view The Iliad
as the perfect match of Edmund s interpretations. Gods in the Iliad need human beings only
because their pain and suffering can fulfill god s selfish pursuing of delight and sublime . Gods
look for delight on personal wills by intervening or not involving, and multitudinous pains
originated from god s process of pursuing sublime .
Certain gods pursue delight by harming people on their personal wills. Apollo, the god of the
sun, has been a typical reflection of how selfish all gods deal with mortals in the Iliad. At the
beginning of the story, Apollo had already swept a fatal plague through the army men were dying
and all because Agamemnon spurned Apollo s priest (I 11 12). The entire cause of spreading the
plague was that the daughter of one of his priests was captured as spoil of winning a battle by
Agamemnon, the leader of Achaean army. By only defending his illusory reputation and the
feedback for his prayer, Apollo led Achaean innocents suffer from plagues. Gaining his own benefits

Examples Of Allegory In Rip Van Winkle
From Lethargy to Liberty: Rip Van Winkle as a Revolutionary Allegory In his short story Rip Van
Winkle , Washington Irving explores the differences between pre Revolutionary and post
Revolutionary America. Laced with the remnants of Dutch mythology, the short story Rip Van
Winkle takes place in a small Dutch American town near the Catskill Mountainsof New York. From
the outset of the short story, Irving introduces the protagonist, Rip Van Winkle
, as a lackadaisical
older man, continuously distressed by his nagging wife. In an attempt to escape her one day, he
goes off into the woods and mysteriously falls asleep for twenty years. The discrepancies between
Rip s own time and the world in which he awakens exemplifies the changing atmosphere... Show

In his pursuit, Rip observes a drawing, previously of King George, on the sign of the inn, The
red coat was changed for one of blue and buff, a sword was stuck in the hand instead of a
sceptre...and underneath was painted in large characters, General Washington (Irving 37). In
these lines, Irving employs a form of synecdoche, the red coats representing the British and the
blue and buff symbolizing the Americans. The description of the sign not only parallels the
colors of their uniforms, but also shows the transformation from one regime to another.
Moreover, Irving s choice of diction changing the royal sceptre to a sword shows the national
transition from a monarchy ruled by an entitled king to a democratic republic won by a war hero.
Finally, Irving writes, a lean bilious looking fellow...was haranguing vehemently about the rights
of citizens election members of congress liberty Bunker s Hill heroes of seventy six and other
words (37). These words, heralds of the revolution, are meaningless to Rip due to his time asleep.
Rip must change to fit this new world, just as the United States went through a period of adjustment
after the Revolution. Ultimately, Irving s Rip Van Winkle takes the form of an allegory, illustrating
the atmosphere of the United States following the Revolution. The conjunction of the metaphorical
relationship between Rip and his wife, the imagery of the changed town, and the necessity for Rip
to adjust to his new liberty, mirror the promise of progress and freedom from the Revolution.
Superficially Rip Van Winkle represents change, yet just below the surface lies an insight into the

Essay on Walgreens Diversity Issues
Walgreens diversity issues:
A weakness that was gained subsequent to the information gathered from research and surveys is
that as a company it is true that diversity is practiced but may differ at stores; stores tend to lack a
wide range of diversity. One may ask how that is possible. Let me explain stated Wasson, We
understand that we serve our customer and patient best when our workforce and suppliers reflect
our communities (Walgreens.com/diversity) which may be beneficial on a financial stance by
making customers feel more comfortable which may lead more spending but gives wrong

So we went ahead and had private conversations with employees to receive the truth Some stayed
firm; others stated that improvement will be necessary. Although the fact still stands that
Walgreens manages diversity systematically, issues such as loyalty, dishonesty, and trust in the
workplace still occur and maybe more often than expected.
Recommendations:
Walgreens is one of the companies that manage diversity well, as mentioned before Walgreens is
widely scattering diversity throughout training programs which are delivered at every level. In
such programs Walgreens make emphasis on what is expected from employees in concern
diversity as well as Walgreens obligations with diverse employees. The training programs
endorse cultural awareness to teach employees about others cultures and how to behave with
sensitivity. Walgreens has established comprehensive policies and programs to ensure
compliance with all applicable federal and state labor and employment laws. However,
according to our research and survey, Walgreens is facing a problem in how to practice diversity
in different stores. According to Melvin, Walgreens s diverse customers vary depending in which
area or suburb the store is located. In some stores Walgreens do not really have training diversity
programs. (For instance if a customer were to come from another neighborhood and shop at a

Compassion Fatigue and Burnout in Nurses Who Work With Children With Chronic Conditions
and Their Families
Introduction
Choosing the career path of a pediatric nurse can be exceptionally rewarding, with that comes many
trials and tribulations. This research paper will be discussing a pilot study done on compassion
fatigue and burnout in nurses who work with children with chronic conditions and their families.
The goal of this study was to identify the triggers, impacts, and coping strategies pediatric nurses
use to manage compassion fatigue and prevent burnout. Compassion fatigue, meaning the natural
behavior and emotional demands one experiences with helping or wanting to help a traumatized
person, and burnout, the complete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Purposive sampling was used in this study. Nurses were recruited from an array of pediatric settings
in Minneapolis and Minnesota. Twenty pediatric nurses agreed to participate. Their nursing
experience extended from four to thirty six years. An interview guide containing eleven essential
open ended questions and probe questions about compassion fatigue and burnout was assembled by
the researchers. The interview guide included questions about the nurse s educational and work
experiences, their experiences with compassion fatigue and burnout, triggers that lead to
compassion fatigue and burnout, and strategies for coping with fatigue and burnout. Each
interview lasted about an hour to an hour and a half, and two investigators each oversaw half of
the interviews. (Maytum, Bielski Heiman, Garwick, 2004) Results The nurse participants
revealed a broad range of emotional and physical symptoms of compassion fatigue and burnout.
The majority of nurses were able to recognize early signals of compassion fatigue. Almost all of
the nurses associated fatigue and lack of energy as leading indicators of compassion fatigue.
Participants described thirty two different triggers. Most of the triggers were work related, and
about one fourth was personal triggers. The triggers were divided into four categories; triggers
related to caring for children

Video Game Aggression
For years, the media, teachers and various types of scientists have made the topic video games and
the possible influence it has on child and teen aggression. The spark up of the controversy all
started with the 1999 Columbine High School shooting. Since then, most, if not all instances
similar to that have thought to be linked to videogame violence, which in turn has led to numerous
studies about this topic. But be that as it may the link between violent video games and adolescent
aggressionis far from being proven fact, however we cannot jump to the conclusion that violent
video games build adolescent aggression.

terms effects right after the experiment was done, not really showing if violent games make
adolescents more aggressive in the long run (Porter Service, 2007). Another main issue with the
experimental studies are the sample size, which in most cases are small, another is the clarity of
whether a tested game is really violent or not and also uncontrollable variables such as if the
person is actually interested in the game or not (Porter Service, 2007). Looking on a different
perspective, literally, correlations studies, which are the studies used between two variables, in
this case violence and games, normally doesn t have as many problems when it comes to basic
science rules for experimenting, but they can be altered by bias test subjects (Porter Service,

Influence Of Cognitive Development On Gender Identity
Abstract
The influence of cognitive development to a modern comprehension of gender identity is
examined. Cognitive theories in the context of human development are assessed and examples are
presented to provide empirical support. These theories surround early gender development with
aspects concentrated specifically during Middle Childhood to illustrate how gender identity is
perceived in children ages 5 11. The process of normal and abnormal gender identity in Middle
Childhood are both examined. The paper concludes with implications for future research.
Introduction to Gender Identity
The phenomenon of gender identity dates back as early as the 1950 s when Psychologists began
examining gender development in children. In 1958, the UCLA Medical Center created the Gender
Identity Research Project to study intersex and its effects on gender development and identity. John
Hopkins Medical School s Gender Identity Clinic was created in 1965 for elaborative gender
research, suggesting that gender identity is relatively fluid up to a certain age and subject to
continuous negotiation (Haraway, 1991). With countless research and studies conducted on this
unique topic in human development, various cognitive theories have emerged to justify the
evolution of gender identity. In order to further examine gender identity, it is critical to distinguish
gender identity from societal terms that do not properly define its true semantic. Gender Identity is

Meletus Occurrence Of Death Of Socrates
The city of Athens put the philosopher Socrates on trial on three charges; corrupting the cities
youth, denying the cities gods, and making the weaker speech the stronger. His accusers, Meletus
the poet being the primary and most vocal, tri him in front of judges for these charges, with the end
resulting in Socratesbeing sentenced to death. Socrates claims that they use these charges because
they are easy at hand for use against those who philosophize, and that they are not just. I do not
believe the sentence of death of Socrates by Athens was just, but its almost as if Socrates falls on
the sword.
Scorates is able to defend himself very well to the charges laid out against him, although
appearing a bit snide in his defense. This ability to defend himself may very well have provoked
some more harm than help for Socrates by furthering feelings that his speech made him appear as a

Meletus states it is the law that makes the youth good. Socrates presses Meletus to be specific and
asks Meletus as to whom it is that makes sure the youth knows the laws. In reply Meletus claims
that it is the community that is responsible for knowing the laws, and then accepts that the
community provides good influences. Meletus is tricked into making the claim that the entire
population has a positive influence on the youth, with the only exception being Socrates. Socrates
then uses an analogy that only horse trainers who specialize in horses have a positive influence on
horses, where most people are unspecialized and would have a negative influence on them. Socrates
suggests that it takes such expertise to improve a horse it would be odd to think that pretty much
anyone can improve a

Achieving Six National Education Goals
According to President Bush, he made an announcement on April 18, 1991 that he wanted to
achieve six national education goals by the year 2000. There are six objectives: 1. Make sure

Write Your Own Rock Song
In most instances, a listener strives to find a song that is simultaneously culturally and socially
conscious, while having a listenability that allows the song to be played at any time or any
place. For the above song, I took a pointedly socially and culturally approach to the
socioeconomic inequalities that persist in the United States, using subtle and themes of freedom
and hardship, while concurrently using the not so subtle theme of class differences to convey
the differences between social classes in our society. The lyrics provide the potential listener
with a juxtaposition of someone who invariably questions their place in society in comparison
with an individual who seems to have everything they could ever need or want, hence the
inclusion of (Mercedes) Benz in the second verse. The lyrics are written in simple verse form
and intentionally have the last two lines of the first verse rhyming with each other, as well as the
first two lines of the second verse rhyming with one another. The rhyming is meant to emphasis
the restraints that lower class people have in terms of social mobility and the freedom those in
upper classes enjoy on a daily basis. The end and Benz creates a slant rhyme that resembles the
perpetual cycle of poverty in contrast with someone who is sad about their luxury car being out of
commission. Given the form of the lyrics and their social connections, the options for music
selection and instrumentation varied across genre and sound. For the

Anotated Bibliography on Literacy in the Primary Years
Christie, F. (2005). Language and Literacy. In Language education in the primary years (pp. 1 12).
Sydney: University of New South Wales Press
In this chapter we are introduced to language being a basic resource with which we learn both in
oral and written form and become a responsibility of teachers in the primary schooling years to
allow this opportunity to be given to all. The debate over methods autonomous and ideological is
discussed where the debate takes into consideration factors from the 20th century emphasising the
literacy practice of learning. We are reading that the functional model of language is a social
semiotic system used in many ways and the three ways that why this is useful being the role, the
nature and learning to construct meanings of language. The chapter emphasises that to play, use,
enjoy and adapt language is a goal for our children which can lead to providing the framework for a
language program.
Text and context are explained where we can change our language approach to suit the discourse.
Through metafunctions as shown in table formation we are allowing ourselves to choose our
language to make meanings. Within the classroom from this chapter we gain an insight into the
social side, the making of choices and reflection of language for children.

Klimt s Beliefs
Karnes message is that Wagner has not received the praise and consideration he deserves. Karnes is
bitter that popular writers, such as Carl E. Schorske, have neglected Wagner s influence on
Nietzsche in their works. In addition, Wagner was inspired by Schopenhauer, which is seen through
Wagner s creativity. Wagner s Schopenhauer inspired view explores the depths of the unconscious
mind, allowing us to view a world within ourselves. Wagner s inspired view greatly influenced
Klimt s works. Klimt s works encapsulate a nationalistic view of Austria and its culture. Klimt s
Nuda Veritas contains philosophical commentary on modern society, which is Schopenhauer
inspired. Another work by Klimt, the Beethoven Frieze, is a bold expression that

The Jacobin Uprising
Within the new French Legislative Assembly, the onetime allies turned political rivals the
Girondins and the Jacobins competed for power. Both began in favor of a French republic, but
differed in their methods of obtaining that goal. The Girondins favored a slower peaceful path to
abolishing the monarchy, which the radical Robespierre referred to as ineffectual (Robespierre
1910). The Jacobins favored the swiftness of violence (Ibid). Following the suspension of the
monarchy, National Guardsmen were sent to prisons across Paris searching for traitors, (McPhee
2012). Anyone adamantly pro revolution was deemed against it by the radical Jacobin group known
as the Mountain.

Lenin s cries for the Soviet to seize control of the government were therefore intended mainly to
arouse indignation in both the Provisional Government and in his less radical Soviet allies
(Ibid). Accordingly, although Lenin arrived in Petrograd in April 1917, the violence marking his
rise to power did not begin until mid June (Ibid). The Provisional Government s latest attack
against Germany was a military disaster and the army refused to follow further orders to the front
(Riordan 1964). Soldiers and laborers alike started violent protests, demanding all power to the
Soviets, (Ibid). Lenin and the Bolshevik party disowned the violence and the protests stopped
shortly thereafter (Ibid). Nevertheless, Lenin was forced to flee the country while Leon Trotsky
was arrested for the violent revolts which marked the July Days (Wade 2000).
During the French Revolution, violence once again marked a distinct change in tone. The final
severing with the Legislative Assembly s final severing with the former monarchical government
occurred on January 21, 1793 when a narrow majority vote ordered Louis XVI s execution (Doyle
2002). Ironically, Robespierre voted in favor in spite of his previous opposition to the death

An initial, reflexive point raised against our objection might be that killing a man is not the same
thing as polluting the air or polluting a river. However, both polluting the air and polluting a river
decrease at least the quality, and realistically both duration and quality of a person s life. It is a
slow method of murder, in this sense. However, we will focus more on the ethical rebuttals now.
Following on Rodin s lawyer homeowner example, one could point to the moral importance of the
benefits that accrue to society as a whole from the practice of managing assets so as to maximize
returns. Rodin continues, saying that such a practice helps to achieve the most economically

Vimy Ridge Turning Point
Vimy Ridge
The assault on Vimy Ridge start at 5:30 am on Easter Monday, April 9, 1917. the fighting ended
on November 11, 1918 It was the first occasion on which all four divisions of the Canadian Corps
attacked as a composite formation.
Canada had been through a lot since the First World War broke out. There are many different
factors which contributed and led towards Canada s nationalism and a strong sense of loyalty
Canada as a young independent nation fought and triumphed over adversity.
The battle of Vimy Ridge was an important turning point for Canada because it brought both world
recognition and a strong sense of patriotism. As the massive assault recognition and a strong sense
of patriotism. As the massive assault was planned with a French attack in the south and a British
diversion at Arras in early 1917 the Canadian corps was given responsibility for the assault on

Canada s strategic planning skills allowed them to win the battle bringing many awards and
world recognitions. It allowed the other countries to know that Canadians are able to learn from
the past and use knowledge and put it into use.The genius plan was the major thing which
allowed Canadians to win the battle. However, one would be even more impressed as they
discover that the main combatants were the Canadian Corps against three divisions of the German
Sixth Army one of the strongest armies fighting at the moment. To defeat a nation as strong as
Germany who already was fortifying Vimy Ridge obviously brought a strong sense of patriotism
towards Canadians. Four Victoria crosses were awarded, along with many other rewards. It also
caused the Germans to fear the Canadian troops the most out of any allied force and caused
Canada to become the allied Shock

Nonsense Is Defined by Its Inability to be Defined Lewis...
The definition of nonsense has been debated throughout literature. Yet nonsense itself cannot be
defined, but rather it is defined by its inability to be defined. It s the destruction or defiance of the
norm that often leads to creation of nonsense. The language of nonsense itself is closely
intertwined with various techniques of style, structuralization and various motifs. Authors such as
Lewis Caroll in Alice and Wonderland and Edward Lear s The Complete Nonsense of Edward
Lear use such techniques to invoke the language of nonsense as well as to create nonsense within
their writing. Both Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear use the language of nonsense is also defined
by paradoxes, the play on stereotypes, and the usage of polysemy. Lewis... Show more content on

In such a structure, Lear creates a paradox in that he uses various stereotypes of each individual
that he chooses and breaks and defies that stereotype. In the creation of such limericks, Lear is
specific in choosing adjectives; he uses places such as Portugal , Madras , etc. In such places
there is an assumption of a stereotype of the individuals from those places, yet instead of
creating that stereotype he creates nonsensical actions for those individuals. Both Carroll and
Lear use polysemy throughout their nonsense. Polysemy can be defined as words or phrases
having multiple meanings. Carroll uses polysemy in the fact that the creatures often take
specific words for face value. For instance, the word mad has multiple meanings, it can either
mean angry or crazed. Carroll is very careful to create the mad hatter and the as mad as a March
hare as the same individual (Carroll). Yet it is in this matter that also fuels the nonsensical
element has the mad hatter becomes a paradox. Lear uses polysemy as well throughout his
limericks. For instance, There was an Old Person of Leeds/Whose head was infested with beads...
(Lear, 12). The word beads could refer to the things that jewelry is made of or a reference to ones
sanity (i.e. often called marbles in today s society). Such a play on words allow for the

Technology Of Square By San Francisco California
Technology of Square
In San Francisco California 2009, Twitter co founder Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey founded a
startup company called Square. The mainly purpose for the company is to make the whole process
of transaction become much more easier and faster for both sellers and buyers. Buyers no longer
need to worry about the situation that they just have credit card but seller only can accept cash. For
sellers, Square provide cohesive service for them to run their entire business. This company has
both software and hardware payment product that allows vendors to accept credit card which is a
much more convenient way for customer to pay in a transaction.
Magstripe reader(Swipe)
The name of Square can refer to Square s card reader that are white square in shape or it can
refers to the whole Square payment system. For hardware products, it has three different devices
based on different ways for customers to handle their credit cards, they can either swipe or plug
the card in Square. So for its original product, magstripe reader, buyers are able to use their cards
to swipe through square which is a small magnetic reader that plugs into the headphone jack of an
iPhone. Once a credit card or a debit card is swiped through the reader, it reads the data and
converts it into an audio signal. The microphone picks up the audio, sends it through the processors
and then is routed to Square s software application on the iPhone. From there the encrypted data is

South Sea Islanders Research Paper
A series of significant events in Australian history leading up to Federation in 1901 brought both
positive and negative changes. The two sides of this arch contrast the successes and failures
involved in making the nation of Australia. A collage showing scenes of racism towards the
Chinese immigrants and the poor treatment of the South Sea Islanders covers the back of the arch.
The front of the arch is a formal design, displaying a influential figure that helped shape the nation
and also the emblems of six colonies before federation took place.
South Sea Islanders
The back of the arch employs a collage, which represents the handling of the South Sea Island
workers and racial discrimination, an act that many white Australians engaged in. The series of
pictures are quite blurred, which shows the resemblance in memories of the South Sea Islanders. It
indicates that this part of Australian history is being forgotten and ignored. Bottom right hand of
the circle shows black birding (Source 33, Booklet, p.29), which illustrates Australians mistreating
the South Sea Islanders. The series of inappropriate actions shown can be considered as a failure in
making the nation of Australia. South Sea Islander descendant, Alf Corowa, whose words are
included as an inscription, recounted the treatment of his ancestors: when they came on the ship
they grabbed them and threw them down the hold (Source 32, Booklet, p.29) The South Sea

FIRM S PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
пѓјOPERATING
Papa John s performance in business operation in the year 2013 and 2014 depicts that it has had a
decrease on net profit margin of 9.43 meanwhile Dominoes has had only a decrease of 3.20. This
financial statement illustrates that the operation has done something that customers are not
satisfied with. Based upon reviews online for Papa Johns they have had a lot of complains on
wrong orders and rude staff (John s, 2016); due to this fact many of their potential customers
choose an alternative pizza restaurant instead like one of its leading competitor the Dominoes.

updated with new trends and become more knowledgeable in this fast paced industry.
According to the study of Gerald Secody, Papa John s has built a foundation of trust and loyalty
amongst their customers and suppliers leading to what is a competitive advantage (Secody, 2014).

Visual Elements In The Film Casablanca
The film, Casablanca, focuses on Rick, who faces lost love, honor and duty, self sacrifice, and
romance, all within a world currently filled with chaos. The bar scene, where Rick drinks alone
after his club closes, represents the sadness he feels after encountering an old acquaintance Ilsa
Lund, his former lover. During the scene, Sam plays As Time Goes by again, the searchlight
circles around the club, and Rick thinks about the past, just before Ilsa comes to see and talk to
him. The mise en scГЁne of the bar scene following Laszlo and Ilsa leaving Rick s nightclub
illustrates the shift of Rick s former character to the man the audience currently sees.
Casablanca contains brilliant visual elements. It is a romantic drama that takes place during
World War II, in a city controlled by France called Casablanca. The city is filled with refugees
who are trying to escape to the United States, dealers selling letters of transit, and French and
German officials. In the beginning of the bar scene, Rick says, Of all the gin joints in all the towns
in all the world, she walks into mine. This incorporates the idea of coincidence in the film. In an
essay written by Bordwell and Thompson, The later in the film a coincidence occurs, the weaker
it is; and it is very unlikely that the story will be resolved by coincidence (13). It explains how ...

List Price And Agent Feedback On The Weekly Calls
As RMS has indicated many times, based on our observations and more importantly on the review
of assets during our weekly calls with Altisource, RMS continues to believe on many of these
assets, the condition or location of the property is the primary driver behind not only the large
reduction in list price, but ultimately a sales price well below the initial list price, all of which
contribute to extended days on market and increased carrying costs incurred by the trust. This is an
ongoing issue observed with Altisource and discussed on the weekly calls.
List price continues to be the biggest concern and is a frequent topic during our weekly target
assets and RMS raises these issues on an asset level basis, reviewing activity, property condition,
agent feedback and offers (or lack thereof).
RMS continues to review assets where we believe the list price set by Altisource is high relative
to our opinion of market value. On listed assets with DOM of more than 60 days and no offers,
RMS and Altisource discuss the list price and agent feedback to understand why offers have not
been received. RMS targets these assets for review every 2 weeks.
Another recent observation is a continued increase in the number of assets in pending contracts that
fall out because the buyer fails to return the purchase agreement. RMS continued to observe this in
January 2016. We believe this relates to the process by which Altisource sells REO assets (on the
HUBZU website), where

Analysis Of Anne Bradstreet To My Dear And Loving Husband
The Depth of Love
An Analysis of Anne Bradstreet s, To My Dear and Loving Husband. Anne Bradstreet s poem, To
My Dear and Loving Husband, is a timeless love poem. The poet expressed her deep admiration
and love of her husband through her gift of writing poetry. The poem is brief, yet powerful. Anne
Bradstreet led a Puritanical life and much of her poetic works are based on her life as a wife and
mother. Her love for her husband, as expressed in this poem, could have been considered a bit
controversial at the time of its writing. Women were to remain quiet about such matters as
romance and be submissive to their husbands. She wanted to live her eternal life, with her
husband, as she lived on earth, as we read in the last line of the poem, That when we live no more,
we may live ever (Line 12). The Puritan life commanded love of God first and above all, however
Anne Bradstreet seemed to struggle with her earthly desires and her Puritan beliefs. The poem
is written in Iambic pentameter. Bradstreet wrote the poem using a form of first person
narrative. She also used the literary device of anaphora at the beginning of the first three lines of
the poem using If ever (1 3) and in the last two lines with we live. (11 12) The tone is very
romantic and emotional. The mood is somewhat reflective and happy. It expresses the feelings
of a woman in love. Bradstreet also uses the literary device of rhyming couplets, with one
notable use of the spelling persever (11), rather than persevere, to rhyme with ever (12). It is
possible that Bradstreet used couplets to further indicate the strong bond between a married
couple. Her marital bond with her husband is indicative of the Christian belief that when two
individuals are married, they are joined together by God as one. In keeping with her faith and
her love toward her husband, she states If ever two were one, then surely we, (1). She further
exhorts her love for her husband as her description of their union embodies the very definition of
what true, marital love should be as we read If ever man were loved by wife, then thee. (2). In
Lines 3 and 4, Bradstreet challenges anyone to compare their marital relationship to hers. There
appears to be no other

The Label Of Gnostic Gospel
The label Gnostic gospel was used for the revelation dialogues between Jesus and his disciples,
which form a prominent group of Gnostic writings. Titles of the form gospel according to ...
became attached to the canonical Gospels in order to distinguish another writing in a collection;
this was a development in the mid to late second century. In addition, when copying collections of
writings, scribes had to assign titles to individual Gnostic works. Based on how rarely gospel
appears as a title, one would have to conclude that Gnostics had little interest in the specification.

Once attributions with no basis in the works themselves are discounted, the number of Gnostic
texts entitled gospel shrinks even further. The Valentinian entries, the Gospel of Truth and the
Gospel of Philip, have no ties to the genre gospel. Valentinian teachers interpret Gospels that are
common property of the larger Christian community. In the remaining cases, both the Gospel of
Thomas and the Gospel of Judas have an incipit that employs a different literary designation. A
later scribe took the apostle s name from the incipit to create the title. The opening pages of the
Gospel of Mary have been lost. Her prominence in the second half of the text may have provided a
scribe with the name for a title. None of the Gnostic tractates entitled gospel initially had that
designation.
Used in the oral sense for preaching a message about salvation revealed through the coming of
Jesus, it is the content of their soteriology, not the term that distinguishes Gnostics from other
Christians. Used in the mid second century forward for written accounts of Jesus and his teaching
commonly circulated among Christians, there is no special Gnostic Gospel. Gnostic teachers rely
on the range of gospel traditions being circulated among Christians, with no greater tendency than
believers to exploit apocryphal Gospels. In addition, the poetics of the Gnostic universe push its
teachers away from imaginative engagement with the historical or physical world such as might
produce additional

“Ballad of Birmingham” Explication Essay
Dudley Randall s Ballad of Birmingham is a look into the effects of racism on a personal level.
The poem is set in Alabama during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. The tone of the title
alludes to the city of Birmingham as a whole. The poem gives the reader, instead, a personal
look into a tragic incident in the lives of a mother and her daughter. The denotation of the poem
seems to simply tell of the sadness of a mother losing her child. The poem s theme is one of guilt,
irony, and the grief of losing a child. The mother feels responsible for the death of her child. The
dramatic irony of the mother s view of church as being a safe haven for her child is presented to the
reader through the mother s insistence that the young girl... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She wants to march to make [their] country free. She seems to understand the concept of the
different standards people were held to because of their skin color and very nobly wanted to help
change that. The fourth stanza is spoken by the mother and is the last stanza containing dialogue.
The mother puts her foot down and tells her daughter she is not going to march but to sing in the
children s choir at the church instead. The repetition of the first line of the mother s response
shows that she is concerned about her daughter s interest in the Freedom March. On first
inspection, the mother seems overbearing and cautious of her daughter. The daughter s request to
march with her friends could be considered a move toward independence, though she is made out
to be very young. The mother is nowhere near ready to let her child be out from under her wing.
After all, she is but a child.
In order to occupy her child, the mother dresses her daughter up to go sing in the children s
choir at church in the fifth stanza. She brushes her hair, bathes her, and puts on her gloves and
shoes. Randall appeals to the senses in this stanza; he uses a metaphor here to inform the reader a
visual that the family is African American. She has night dark hair and small brown hands. She is
dressed in white and smells of sweet rose petals. The mother takes the girls mind off of the
Freedom March and fixes it on the children s choir. The tone is one of content. The sixth stanza is a

Evil And Socialism In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
! Upton Sinclair s The Jungle is about an immigrant family who moved to America for opportunities
and found themselves in the Gilded Age. The conditions of the factories, housing and workers were
disgusting. Social Darwinism is shown throughout the book with tons of different characters and
metaphors. Upton Sinclairs purpose and main theme for the book was that Capitalism is evil and
Socialism should replace it.
During the book it shows the effect that capitalism has on Jurgis as he slowly deteriorates. It also
shows other characters and how they deal with the pressure of trying to survive. Some of the
people did some terrible things to stay alive and thriving.
! Social Darwinism is when people do whatever they have to do to survive. The people in The
Jungle do terrible things to stay ahead of the game. One example is when
Conner denies everything in court so Jurgis gets thrown in jail. If Conner had told the truth
Conner might have gone to jail too and that would ruin his reputation. Another example would
be when Marija had to turn to prostitution so she could make enough money to survive. She
could have gotten arrested, simply because she was trying to live. A lot of people rationalize
their actions with the simple fact of if they didn t do these things, they cant support themselves or
their families. The managers of Packingtown seem to have the mentality that their life has been
terrible so why should their workers have it any better? Conner is an Irish immigrant so he
understands how hard it is to be an immigrant in America, yet he still treats Jurgis and Ona
terribly. It isn t very common to find someone that will help you out and be your friend.
Throughout the novel, Jurgis witnesses more and more people that he cares about die. There isn t
anything he can do about it because they don t have enough money. Eventually Jurgis starts to do
everything he can to find a job or at least money. People are taking his money and cheating him
out of his money. When Jurgis lived on the streets begging, he was stripped of his dignity. Jurgis

Potential Benefits Of Social Media
Potential Benefits of Social Media Mentioning the phrase social media brings to mind the elephant
in the room known as Facebook. Those opposed to entering this world tend to single out the
negative aspects of it and use them as excuses not to join. Merriam Webster interprets social media
as forms of electronic communication through which users create online communities to share
information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos) ( social media ). Nowhere in
that definition does it suggest that only one platform exists. That being said, a great deal of good
can, and does, emerge from a multitude of such forums. Human interactions are increasingly
occurring in virtual settings; non participants stubbornly fight the inevitable as its versatility and
convenience are too tough to resist. Although traditional school settings are still effective means of
education, knowledge is certainly not restricted to the four walls of a classroom. Learning
institutions, and parents alike, can barely afford to hire qualified tutors. Khan Academy, whose
mission is to provide a free, world class education for anyone, anywhere ( mission statement ), aims
to remedy said complications. Basic tasks, such as ordering meals and asking directions, in a
foreign country quickly become challenging without some type of fundamental capacity for the
regional tongue. Visiting travelers are, undoubtedly, more well received by local residents when

Gladiatorial Protection and Battles
Posters hung of these gladiators upcoming battles and tallies were posted of these individual

placed bets on who would win each battle. These gladiators were no longer looked at as human
beings, but rather as bodies in a blood battle. These battles were so gruesome in order to
entertain and appease the large audiences. The gladiators went to all costs when it came to the
arena battles, and even created their own fighting styles in order to make the battles more
interesting. I had no idea that gladiatorial battles were such an art, and that there were so many
gladiatorial fighting styles implemented. Gladiators were armed with various weapons and had
different fighting techniques. Some gladiators rode into the arena on horseback, known as
equites , as a scare tactic before he fought his opponent. Others carried large shields that covered
their entire bodies for protection, known as murmillo s , while some gladiators carried small
shields that covered only their torso so they were better able to move around. 1 The picture below

is much debate over which type of gladiatorial protection was better suited to help win the battles.
Many argued that gladiators with more armor and weapons were better equipped to win because
they had more protection from fatal blows. Others argued that the

The Importance Of State Disinvestment In Higher Education
One of the most obvious manifestations of this is the trend, now more than a decade in duration,
of state disinvestment in higher education. The 12 percent decline in state funding we have
absorbed in Kansas over the past 18 months was preceded by more than a decade of steady decline

state.
State disinvestment in higher education is dangerous for a number of reasons.
First, not investing in higher education means not investing in innovation, discovery, work force
preparation and the growth of intellectual capital, all prominent features of the legendary American
ingenuity.
Secondly, not investing in higher education means not investing in

Alfred Hitchcock Suspense
Alfred Hitchcock was the most well known film director and producer in the cinema world for
applying a type of psychological suspense in his films. (Biography, N, A) I am a typed director ,
he said, If I made Cinderella, the audience would immediately be looking for a body in the coach.
(Hitchcock,1956). Hitchcock had a very consistent style that was unique and identifiable proving
that he was an auteur by a close examination of Psychoand The Birds. This is evident in the two

When the silhouette appeared behind the shower curtains during the shower scene, there was no
music only the sound effects of the shower, and as a result, the audience was positioned to
empower Marion, knowing a crucial piece of information that she didn t. Similarly in The Birds,
when Melanie was in front of school there is a conspicuous increase in bird count and as they
more birds appeared the chirping also increased as if they are slowly empowering the children
singing. Hitchcock used sound effects similarly in both films to increase tension and suspense.
Comparing both movies there are many similarities, as he showed little details in the
background to give hints of what the audience should feel in the particular scene, he cleverly
used the mode of mise en scГЁne to achieve this. (MediaStudiesCollection, 2012) In the scene
after the Brenner s family were just been attacked by small brown birds, Melanie heard noise
coming from the upstairs bedroom. As she opened the door to the room, she was surrounded and
attacked by many crows. The setting of the scene show her being pushed back on the brown
door creates the sense of being trapped and now where to go as well in Psycho when Marion was
also pushed back to the wall of the shower, it gives a sense struggle on the audience. By using
sound effects and mise en scГЁne, Hitchcock successfully creates tension in both

Battle Of Peron Summary
The first de facto government after the swearing in of the Argentina Constitution of 1853 , was
that of General Bartolome Mitre, who took office after winning the battle of Pavon in September
1861. In the twentieth century there were a series of military uprisings that broke the
constitutional order. While the democratic government of Hipolito Yrigoyen was elected by a
large majority, opponents were busy making a smear campaign such that no one reacted to the
uprising that brought to power General Jose Felix Uriburu , who was recognized as president de
facto by the Supreme Court in a Acordada (name given to the decisions of the high court) of 10
September 1930. Uriburu was the initiator of what later would become a habit, take as legislator...

Thomas J. Dodd Research Study Sample
This study is centered around undergraduate and graduate students between the ages of 18 and 25
years old. The undergraduate and graduate students from psychology and sociology classes at the
University of Connecticut are recruited to participate in a self report survey. A random sample of
240 students will be acquired, 120 males and 120 females. These students will range from different
races, ethnicities, and socio economic background. The participants will first be clustered based on
gender, then subcategorized by social class, race, and where these participants originally reside. The
clusters will allow researchers to view the differing statistics of each characteristic and hopefully
distinguish correlations. One hundred and twenty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outcome of the study may lead to inaccurate results because the participant pool does not
properly portray the population in which the study is collecting data. As a means to account for
this source of bias, the study could possibly be opened up to the public instead of privately
selecting participants from the university. This way participants come from all backgrounds not
only undergraduates and graduates. This study only makes generalizations from the population of
18 through 25 year old young adults who are undergraduates or graduates that have dealt with
parents whom suffer from alcoholism, substance use, and mental illness. The study does not
generalize the population of 18 through 25 year olds that are not in college. This population that
does not attend college are hard to obtain for research and so they will not be represented in the
study. The sample s responses to the survey will allow researchers to make inferences of the
behavior of the population of 18 through 25 year olds who are in college.
Procedures
The data will be recorded from a series of surveys and questionnaires. The questionnaires will be
similar to the ones used in the Williams and Corrigan study. Williams and Corrigan (1992) had
participants complete the Children of Alcoholics Screening Test, the Relative Psychiatric History
Questionnaire, Coopersmith Self Esteem Inventory for adults, State Trait Anxiety Inventory, and

The American Businessman Essay
The American Businessman When you think of your average businessman, the first thought
probably is a tall and slender man, who always wears black suits and is a wall street shark.
However, this is not the case for Eric Merchant. He is a large, jolly man, who always wears tee
shirts that relate to cars and trucks. Every weeknight, after Eric comes home from his job as a
businessowner, he starts to work again. He is a day in and day out workaholic, he always has
something to do and time to do it. He elaborates, I can t just do nothing, that doesn t seem
practical to me, Eric has always been a devoted worker for his own personal satisfaction, and for
his two children, Maddy and Masen. Before his business, Merchant Automotive, became his
priority in work, he was a mechanic for a Todd Wenzel dealership. However, he still ran his own
small business on the side while working there. He bought parts from their supply manager and
resold them on his own website. They knew what I was doing, they just didn t care because I
wasn t competing with them. His managers hadn t cared because they weren t selling anything
online, and therefore saw no problem with Eric doing so. Along with that, he would do speciality
mechanic work on large diesel trucks out of his own garage. Eric had tools and knowledge to
perform maintenance on specific vehicles that almost every other mechanic shop could not do. He
attracted customers from around the globe by using online forum websites, spreading

The Sarbanes Oxley Act Of 2002
On July 30, 2002, the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 was signed into law by the acting President
George W. Bush. The overall purpose of the Act was to protect investors by improving the accuracy
and reliability of corporate disclosures made pursuant to the securities laws, and for other purposes.
(SEC, 2013) This Act mandated multiple amendments to improve corporate responsibility, enhance
financial disclosures, and combat corporate and accounting fraudulent practices. One requirement
of the Act involves a management s report on internal controls over financial reporting to be
included in the annual financial reports of a company. On July 30, 2014, the Securities and
Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that CEO Marc Sherman and former CFO Edward L.
Cummings of a computer equipment company named QSGI, Inc. are being charged with
misrepresenting the state of its internal controls over financial reporting to external auditors and the
investing public. Inadequate internal control within the company can be extremely detrimental
because investors and lenders rely heavily on financial reports to make decisions. The incorrect
records of QSGI enabled the company to maximize loans from their top creditor. This report will
show how QSGI s lack of internal controls hindered their ability to generate revenue and maintain
one of the company s operation centers. So what are internal controls? And why are they so
important? Internal controls describe the policies, plans, and procedures

The second sonnet continues the argument and plea from sonnet one. This time through the

a treasure that decays unless, through love, its natural increase. By marrying and having children

Health Promotion Vs Health Education Essay
Health promotion and health education are both very good fields that provide awareness to
individuals on health and wellness, subjects and issues. They both have very similar objectives
and goals towards creating a healthier lifestyle and they strive to help improve the health and well
being of individuals. Even though these fields of interest maybe similar in ways they are actually
very different and should be classified as so. Healthpromotion is a field that is more about
advocating for a better quality of life by promoting and campaigning awareness, while health
education is a field of study that is more focused about teaching different methods and theories to
help increase the knowledge in individuals. These two fields are very good for our society
because they are providing proper information on different health related subjects that are very
important to one s well being. They also have the same goal of helping individuals to strive to be
healthy. Both areas of study have individuals physical and mental well being as their best interests
at heart. These focused fields are assets to our community because they are both all... Show more

Criticism Of Diego VelГ zquez s Las Meninas, SebastiГ n de...
Diego VelГzquez was called the noblest and most commanding man among the artists of his
country. He was a master realist, and no painter has surpassed him in the ability to seize essential
features and fix them on canvas with a few broad, sure strokes. His men and women seem to
breathe, it has been said; his horses are full of action and his dogs of life. Because of VelГzquez
great skill in merging color, light, space, rhythmof line, and mass in such a way that all have equal
value, he was known as the painters painter, as demonstrated in the paintings Las Meninas,
SebastiГ n de Morra, and Baltasar Carlosand a Dwarf.

The interlocking of these luminous areas is the more vivid as the middle distance is cut off by
the shadows which spread across the floor. The depth of the chamber is stressed by the alternation
of window jambs and picture frames on the right hand wall, the stretcher of the large canvas on the
left foreground, and the perspective sequence of the empty lamp hooks on the ceiling, which mark
as central the spot in the rear wall where the King and the Queen are seen reflected in the mirror. In
no other painting has VelГzquez rendered space in so architectural a manner as in this, the only
work in which he has depicted a ceiling. Neither is there any other composition of his that is so
vividly keyed to the space lying out of the picture frame.
Recent studies of Las Meninas, inspired by the ideas of Michel Foucault, have paid considerable
attention to the seemingly novel relationship between the scene on the canvas and the spectator.
These ideas tacitly assume that the picture was meant to be seen by the public at large, as if it
were hanging in an important museum, as it is today. (They also exaggerate the novelty of the way
in which the spectator is involved in the picture.) However, the original placement indicates that
this is not the case. In 1666, the year after the death of Philip IV, Las Meninas was

Analyzing Peter s Cognitive Dissonance Theory
No one enjoys being told what they are doing is wrong, and in this specific case that they are
stealing. Peter explains to Joanna that his business has been rounding certain amounts to take
fractions of a penny from compounded interests and then they placed the dropped remainder in an
account they own. By using the Cognitive Dissonance Theory, I will analyze this artifact and
incorporate how this theory is intertwined within the conversation between the characters Joanna
and Peter. I will show how Peter uses selective exposure, post decision dissonance, and two of the
three parts of the state of the art revisions to reduce his dissonance. Cognitive Dissonance is a
distressing mental state caused by inconsistency between a person s two... Show more content on

March Connemara
Start of March, Connemara by Eamon Grennan is a poem which I thought introduces a persona
who wonders how life is to be lived. He sees these birds and watches them disappear into the
horizon freely and passionately. But after reading it again, I realized that it might not be about
that, rather, it was about how the persona wonders how these birds allow themselves to follow
the predestined path life made for them. The author writing style connects nature to
commitments. In the first stanza of the poem, we see the persona asking how the seagulls found
the perfect angle in the strong wind and adapted to it. The wind could possibly symbolize life,
and the persona asks himself how these birds let themselves go with the flow when they know it ll
end with them gone. In the second stanza, we see the persona coming back from where he came
from whilst watching a cormorant intensely plunge itself into the unknown. Again, the persona is
at a loss as to why the bird seems to have no care for the future when it ends the same for all of
them: death. In the third stanza, we see a rain plover excitedly flying in the sky then disappearing
into the horizon. The dramatic situation here is that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Invention Of Dna Testing
Improper forensics, bad lawyering, snitches, unqualified experts, eye witness misidentification,
false confessions, and mishandled evidence are all just a few reasons for wrongful convictions in
the justice system. However, the authors of Actual Innocence: When Justice Goes Wrong and How
to Make it Right, discuss how DNA is a main factor into actually innocent people. Throughout this
book we learn stories about those who were wrongfully convicted and later proven guilty for
reasons such as DNA testing. While this proves to us that not everyone convicted is guilty, it points
out many other errors in the criminal justicesystem as well. The beginning chapters of the book
discuss the invention of DNA testing as well as the unreliability of eye witness testimony. As of
2003, the authors mention that thirty two states had post convictionDNA testing statutes with
legislation pending in ten others (Dwyer 352). This allows testing when there is such DNA
evidence relating to the crimeavailable. More than two thirds of the 130 post conviction DNA
exonerations in the United States involved mistaken eye witness identifications (Dwyer 353). This
is because witnesses are encouraged to pick which participant compares best to the image they have
in their head even though the true perpetrator may not be present. Eye witness testimonies are the
primary source brought against defendants and is one of the most important ones that need to focus
on reform. Later chapters bring up the

  • 2. Ancient World Exhibitions Although the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts collection holds many treasures from a variety of eras and cultures, three pertained most to this course. Within the Ancient World exhibit, a Cycladic Idol, a Roman copy of Greek artist Praxiteles s statue of Aphrodite, and a Red figure Krater are on display. All three artworks trace the progression of Greek culture and the later Romans who imitated much of Greek culture and art. The St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts, or MFA, is curated both by era and by culture. For example, the Ancient World room contains art from a particular time period and a variety of cultures; however, the Art of the Americas room is made up of art from a specific culture over a large amount of time. All of the works mentioned above were placed within the Ancient World room. The curator chose to place the statue of Aphrodite on a pedestal in the center of the room, so it is the first thing visitors see when they enter the room. To its right, the Cycladic idol and other sculptures from the ancient world are on display. At the other end of the room, a collection of Ancient Greek and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose of such marble figurines is a mystery, although it is assumed they served a mortuary purpose due their being found in graves (Sayre, 2008). Not much is known about this early civilization that occupied the Cyclades, a group of islands in the Aegean Sea ( Early Cycladic, 2000). What little historians do know came from figures like this one, ranging in size from a few inches tall to life sized (Sayre, 2008). According to scientific analysis, many of the sculptures were once painted, especially those of the Spedos type like the MFA s example ( Early Cycladic, 2000). Cycladic figurines are the earliest and only known depictions of nude females in Greek art preceding Praxiteles nude Aphrodite in the 4th century B.C.E ( Anonymous, Cycladic, ... Strategic It Changes, Predicted Benefits, And Opportunity... 6.HBL Strategic IT Changes, Predicted Benefits, and Opportunity Cost: Strategic HR ideas are difficult to implement as the HBL s HR system is outdated when compared to the relatively newly established banks within the country. HBL engaged IBM s consultants to provide them a new system. This system was capable of functionalities including: An employee can see his/her basic data which includes basic profile, previous performance review, annual leave, payroll, academic and professional qualifications, vocational training and archived of achievements on various projects employees have worked during the number of years. The objective to implement such ERP system was to develop a skills data bank within HR department that can make it self sufficient for future work related resource allocations and could direct the leaders into the right way to utilize the workforce as per their specialist skills. As per top management predictions, once implemented the system could generate quantifiable synergies and a resultant competitive advantage over rivals. The software could also be used for budgetary controls over recruitment costs and help to identify the short term and long term employee training needs without any policy constraints HBL currently have due to its bureaucratic culture. This way the bank could have developed the swift response to its future workforce needs and help strengthen the long term business sustainability in line with its corporate objectives. Firstly in the growth of microorganism is the lag phase, which is the slowest part. In this phase there is no increase in the cell number and induction of enzymes to utilized substrate. It is very important to decrease the lag period in industry to increase the productivity. To decrease the period of lag phase some used to inoculate with exponential phase cell, pre acclimate inoculum in growth media and use high cell inoculum size. The second phase is the exponential phase. In the exponential phase, cells already adjusted to the surrounding and already begin to develop and increase the number of cells rapidly. Also, the nutrient and substrate concentration are large. The growth rate is independent of nutrient and substrate concentration. The exponential phase is due to its name which cell number and mass concentration increase exponentially. Between log phase and stationary phase, there is deceleration phase which the depletion of one or more nutrients. This may due to accumulation of toxic byproduct of growth. The growth and metabolism in this phase is unbalanced due to shifts for survival. The third phase is the stationary phase in which in this phase the rate development of new cell amp; rate of death is same and no net growth of cell number or cell mass which shown no cell division occurs. • 6. Aviophobia And Phobia Introduction Air travel is an incredibly useful mode of transportation that enables practically anyone in the world to go practically anywhere they want to. Unfortunately, for some people, it is not as simple and as wonderful as it sounds. Although it is now counted amongst one of the safest ways to travel, many individuals have what is called aviophobia: The fear of flying in an airplane (Faraci, Triscari, Catalisano, D Angelo Urso, 2015). Indeed, phobiaof flying is a specific phobia that affects around 25% of the population in varying degrees (Hirsch, 2012). While most people don t catch flights every day, this phobia can still have countless negative effects on affected individuals daily lives. Centered on the main common fears of plane crash and turbulence, symptoms can range from severe anxiousness to full blown panic attacks (Hirsch, 2012) which explain why individuals will go to great lengths if it will allow them to avoid having to endure such distress. When it seems as though catching a flight will be inevitable, individuals with aviophobia might resort to self medication with alcohol or mild sedatives (Hirsch, 2012). The following design assignment will describe a procedure that hopes to make the lives of those with aviophobia easier and allow them to utilize air travel while avoiding distress. Treatment Options In the past, treatment for phobias such as aviophobia were centered around various forms of systematic desensitization primarily practiced with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Delight In The Iliad According to what Edmund Burke demonstrated in his On the Sublime and the Beautiful, 1756, two terminologies, delight and sublime , were defined. As declaring that the self preservation would eventually lead to pain and danger, Edmund says that people are delightful when they have a clear sense of the consequences of self preservation, but are not affected by them; meanwhile, sublime excites the delight . By connecting these definitions to the Homeric Hymn, I view The Iliad as the perfect match of Edmund s interpretations. Gods in the Iliad need human beings only because their pain and suffering can fulfill god s selfish pursuing of delight and sublime . Gods look for delight on personal wills by intervening or not involving, and multitudinous pains originated from god s process of pursuing sublime . Certain gods pursue delight by harming people on their personal wills. Apollo, the god of the sun, has been a typical reflection of how selfish all gods deal with mortals in the Iliad. At the beginning of the story, Apollo had already swept a fatal plague through the army men were dying and all because Agamemnon spurned Apollo s priest (I 11 12). The entire cause of spreading the plague was that the daughter of one of his priests was captured as spoil of winning a battle by Agamemnon, the leader of Achaean army. By only defending his illusory reputation and the feedback for his prayer, Apollo led Achaean innocents suffer from plagues. Gaining his own benefits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Examples Of Allegory In Rip Van Winkle From Lethargy to Liberty: Rip Van Winkle as a Revolutionary Allegory In his short story Rip Van Winkle , Washington Irving explores the differences between pre Revolutionary and post Revolutionary America. Laced with the remnants of Dutch mythology, the short story Rip Van Winkle takes place in a small Dutch American town near the Catskill Mountainsof New York. From the outset of the short story, Irving introduces the protagonist, Rip Van Winkle , as a lackadaisical older man, continuously distressed by his nagging wife. In an attempt to escape her one day, he goes off into the woods and mysteriously falls asleep for twenty years. The discrepancies between Rip s own time and the world in which he awakens exemplifies the changing atmosphere... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his pursuit, Rip observes a drawing, previously of King George, on the sign of the inn, The red coat was changed for one of blue and buff, a sword was stuck in the hand instead of a sceptre...and underneath was painted in large characters, General Washington (Irving 37). In these lines, Irving employs a form of synecdoche, the red coats representing the British and the blue and buff symbolizing the Americans. The description of the sign not only parallels the colors of their uniforms, but also shows the transformation from one regime to another. Moreover, Irving s choice of diction changing the royal sceptre to a sword shows the national transition from a monarchy ruled by an entitled king to a democratic republic won by a war hero. Finally, Irving writes, a lean bilious looking fellow...was haranguing vehemently about the rights of citizens election members of congress liberty Bunker s Hill heroes of seventy six and other words (37). These words, heralds of the revolution, are meaningless to Rip due to his time asleep. Rip must change to fit this new world, just as the United States went through a period of adjustment after the Revolution. Ultimately, Irving s Rip Van Winkle takes the form of an allegory, illustrating the atmosphere of the United States following the Revolution. The conjunction of the metaphorical relationship between Rip and his wife, the imagery of the changed town, and the necessity for Rip to adjust to his new liberty, mirror the promise of progress and freedom from the Revolution. Superficially Rip Van Winkle represents change, yet just below the surface lies an insight into the revolutionary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In such programs Walgreens make emphasis on what is expected from employees in concern diversity as well as Walgreens obligations with diverse employees. The training programs endorse cultural awareness to teach employees about others cultures and how to behave with sensitivity. Walgreens has established comprehensive policies and programs to ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state labor and employment laws. However, according to our research and survey, Walgreens is facing a problem in how to practice diversity in different stores. Twenty pediatric nurses agreed to participate. Their nursing experience extended from four to thirty six years. An interview guide containing eleven essential open ended questions and probe questions about compassion fatigue and burnout was assembled by the researchers. The interview guide included questions about the nurse s educational and work experiences, their experiences with compassion fatigue and burnout, triggers that lead to compassion fatigue and burnout, and strategies for coping with fatigue and burnout. Each interview lasted about an hour to an hour and a half, and two investigators each oversaw half of the interviews. (Maytum, Bielski Heiman, Garwick, 2004) Results The nurse participants revealed a broad range of emotional and physical symptoms of compassion fatigue and burnout. The majority of nurses were able to recognize early signals of compassion fatigue. Almost all of the nurses associated fatigue and lack of energy as leading indicators of compassion fatigue. • 12. Influence Of Cognitive Development On Gender Identity Abstract The influence of cognitive development to a modern comprehension of gender identity is examined. Cognitive theories in the context of human development are assessed and examples are presented to provide empirical support. These theories surround early gender development with aspects concentrated specifically during Middle Childhood to illustrate how gender identity is perceived in children ages 5 11. The process of normal and abnormal gender identity in Middle Childhood are both examined. The paper concludes with implications for future research. Introduction to Gender Identity The phenomenon of gender identity dates back as early as the 1950 s when Psychologists began examining gender development in children. In 1958, the UCLA Medical Center created the Gender Identity Research Project to study intersex and its effects on gender development and identity. John Hopkins Medical School s Gender Identity Clinic was created in 1965 for elaborative gender research, suggesting that gender identity is relatively fluid up to a certain age and subject to continuous negotiation (Haraway, 1991). With countless research and studies conducted on this unique topic in human development, various cognitive theories have emerged to justify the evolution of gender identity. In order to further examine gender identity, it is critical to distinguish gender identity from societal terms that do not properly define its true semantic. Gender Identity is ... His accusers, Meletus the poet being the primary and most vocal, tri him in front of judges for these charges, with the end resulting in Socratesbeing sentenced to death. Socrates claims that they use these charges because they are easy at hand for use against those who philosophize, and that they are not just. I do not believe the sentence of death of Socrates by Athens was just, but its almost as if Socrates falls on the sword. Scorates is able to defend himself very well to the charges laid out against him, although appearing a bit snide in his defense. This ability to defend himself may very well have provoked some more harm than help for Socrates by furthering feelings that his speech made him appear as a slick tongued wordsmith, but that s just a personal suspicion. ... Meletus is tricked into making the claim that the entire population has a positive influence on the youth, with the only exception being Socrates. • 17. Write Your Own Rock Song In most instances, a listener strives to find a song that is simultaneously culturally and socially conscious, while having a listenability that allows the song to be played at any time or any place. For the above song, I took a pointedly socially and culturally approach to the socioeconomic inequalities that persist in the United States, using subtle and themes of freedom and hardship, while concurrently using the not so subtle theme of class differences to convey the differences between social classes in our society. The lyrics provide the potential listener with a juxtaposition of someone who invariably questions their place in society in comparison with an individual who seems to have everything they could ever need or want, hence the inclusion of (Mercedes) Benz in the second verse. The lyrics are written in simple verse form and intentionally have the last two lines of the first verse rhyming with each other, as well as the first two lines of the second verse rhyming with one another. The rhyming is meant to emphasis the restraints that lower class people have in terms of social mobility and the freedom those in upper classes enjoy on a daily basis. The end and Benz creates a slant rhyme that resembles the perpetual cycle of poverty in contrast with someone who is sad about their luxury car being out of commission. Given the form of the lyrics and their social connections, the options for music selection and instrumentation varied across genre and sound. For the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The debate over methods autonomous and ideological is discussed where the debate takes into consideration factors from the 20th century emphasising the literacy practice of learning. We are reading that the functional model of language is a social semiotic system used in many ways and the three ways that why this is useful being the role, the nature and learning to construct meanings of language. The chapter emphasises that to play, use, enjoy and adapt language is a goal for our children which can lead to providing the framework for a language program. Text and context are explained where we can change our language approach to suit the discourse. Through metafunctions as shown in table formation we are allowing ourselves to choose our language to make meanings. Within the classroom from this chapter we gain an insight into the social side, the making of choices and reflection of language for children. Gee, J.P. (1991). What is literacy? In C. Mitchell K. Schorske, have neglected Wagner s influence on Nietzsche in their works. In addition, Wagner was inspired by Schopenhauer, which is seen through Wagner s creativity. Wagner s Schopenhauer inspired view explores the depths of the unconscious mind, allowing us to view a world within ourselves. Wagner s inspired view greatly influenced Klimt s works. Klimt s works encapsulate a nationalistic view of Austria and its culture. Klimt s Nuda Veritas contains philosophical commentary on modern society, which is Schopenhauer inspired. An initial, reflexive point raised against our objection might be that killing a man is not the same thing as polluting the air or polluting a river. However, both polluting the air and polluting a river decrease at least the quality, and realistically both duration and quality of a person s life. It is a slow method of murder, in this sense. However, we will focus more on the ethical rebuttals now. Following on Rodin s lawyer homeowner example, one could point to the moral importance of the benefits that accrue to society as a whole from the practice of managing assets so as to maximize returns. Rodin continues, saying that such a practice helps to achieve the most economically efficient distribution of resources, which benefits the society as a whole. As an example he considers the case where maximization of returns by converting the building would increase underlying capital value that may be used for further investment. This, in turn would generate additional employment and tax revenue that may be used for health care, education, and other public goods. • 23. Nonsense Is Defined by Its Inability to be Defined Lewis... The definition of nonsense has been debated throughout literature. Yet nonsense itself cannot be defined, but rather it is defined by its inability to be defined. It s the destruction or defiance of the norm that often leads to creation of nonsense. The language of nonsense itself is closely intertwined with various techniques of style, structuralization and various motifs. Authors such as Lewis Caroll in Alice and Wonderland and Edward Lear s The Complete Nonsense of Edward Lear use such techniques to invoke the language of nonsense as well as to create nonsense within their writing. Both Lewis Carroll and Edward Lear use the language of nonsense is also defined by paradoxes, the play on stereotypes, and the usage of polysemy. Lewis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In such a structure, Lear creates a paradox in that he uses various stereotypes of each individual that he chooses and breaks and defies that stereotype. In the creation of such limericks, Lear is specific in choosing adjectives; he uses places such as Portugal , Madras , etc. In such places there is an assumption of a stereotype of the individuals from those places, yet instead of creating that stereotype he creates nonsensical actions for those individuals. Both Carroll and Lear use polysemy throughout their nonsense. Polysemy can be defined as words or phrases having multiple meanings. Carroll uses polysemy in the fact that the creatures often take specific words for face value. For instance, the word mad has multiple meanings, it can either mean angry or crazed. Carroll is very careful to create the mad hatter and the as mad as a March hare as the same individual (Carroll). Yet it is in this matter that also fuels the nonsensical element has the mad hatter becomes a paradox. Lear uses polysemy as well throughout his limericks. For instance, There was an Old Person of Leeds/Whose head was infested with beads... (Lear, 12). During the scene, Sam plays As Time Goes by again, the searchlight circles around the club, and Rick thinks about the past, just before Ilsa comes to see and talk to him. List Price And Agent Feedback On The Weekly Calls As RMS has indicated many times, based on our observations and more importantly on the review of assets during our weekly calls with Altisource, RMS continues to believe on many of these assets, the condition or location of the property is the primary driver behind not only the large reduction in list price, but ultimately a sales price well below the initial list price, all of which contribute to extended days on market and increased carrying costs incurred by the trust. This is an ongoing issue observed with Altisource and discussed on the weekly calls. List price continues to be the biggest concern and is a frequent topic during our weekly target assets and RMS raises these issues on an asset level basis, reviewing activity, property condition, agent feedback and offers (or lack thereof). RMS continues to review assets where we believe the list price set by Altisource is high relative to our opinion of market value. On listed assets with DOM of more than 60 days and no offers, RMS and Altisource discuss the list price and agent feedback to understand why offers have not been received. • 30. Analysis Of Anne Bradstreet To My Dear And Loving Husband The Depth of Love An Analysis of Anne Bradstreet s, To My Dear and Loving Husband. Anne Bradstreet s poem, To My Dear and Loving Husband, is a timeless love poem. The poet expressed her deep admiration and love of her husband through her gift of writing poetry. The poem is brief, yet powerful. Anne Bradstreet led a Puritanical life and much of her poetic works are based on her life as a wife and mother. Her love for her husband, as expressed in this poem, could have been considered a bit controversial at the time of its writing. Women were to remain quiet about such matters as romance and be submissive to their husbands. She wanted to live her eternal life, with her husband, as she lived on earth, as we read in the last line of the poem, That when we live no more, we may live ever (Line 12). The Puritan life commanded love of God first and above all, however Anne Bradstreet seemed to struggle with her earthly desires and her Puritan beliefs. The poem is written in Iambic pentameter. Bradstreet wrote the poem using a form of first person narrative. She also used the literary device of anaphora at the beginning of the first three lines of the poem using If ever (1 3) and in the last two lines with we live. (11 12) The tone is very romantic and emotional. The mood is somewhat reflective and happy. It expresses the feelings of a woman in love. Bradstreet also uses the literary device of rhyming couplets, with one notable use of the spelling persever (11), rather than persevere, to rhyme with ever (12). It is possible that Bradstreet used couplets to further indicate the strong bond between a married couple. Her marital bond with her husband is indicative of the Christian belief that when two individuals are married, they are joined together by God as one. In keeping with her faith and her love toward her husband, she states If ever two were one, then surely we, (1). She further exhorts her love for her husband as her description of their union embodies the very definition of what true, marital love should be as we read If ever man were loved by wife, then thee. (2). In Lines 3 and 4, Bradstreet challenges anyone to compare their marital relationship to hers. There appears to be no other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once attributions with no basis in the works themselves are discounted, the number of Gnostic texts entitled gospel shrinks even further. The Valentinian entries, the Gospel of Truth and the Gospel of Philip, have no ties to the genre gospel. In the remaining cases, both the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Judas have an incipit that employs a different literary designation. A later scribe took the apostle s name from the incipit to create the title. The opening pages of the Gospel of Mary have been lost. Her prominence in the second half of the text may have provided a scribe with the name for a title. None of the Gnostic tractates entitled gospel initially had that designation. Used in the oral sense for preaching a message about salvation revealed through the coming of Jesus, it is the content of their soteriology, not the term that distinguishes Gnostics from other Christians. The poem gives the reader, instead, a personal look into a tragic incident in the lives of a mother and her daughter. The mother puts her foot down and tells her daughter she is not going to march but to sing in the children s choir at the church instead. The repetition of the first line of the mother s response shows that she is concerned about her daughter s interest in the Freedom March. On first inspection, the mother seems overbearing and cautious of her daughter. The daughter s request to march with her friends could be considered a move toward independence, though she is made out to be very young. The conditions of the factories, housing and workers were disgusting. Social Darwinism is shown throughout the book with tons of different characters and metaphors. Upton Sinclairs purpose and main theme for the book was that Capitalism is evil and Socialism should replace it. During the book it shows the effect that capitalism has on Jurgis as he slowly deteriorates. It also shows other characters and how they deal with the pressure of trying to survive. Some of the people did some terrible things to stay alive and thriving. ! Social Darwinism is when people do whatever they have to do to survive. The people in The Jungle do terrible things to stay ahead of the game. One example is when Conner denies everything in court so Jurgis gets thrown in jail. If Conner had told the truth Conner might have gone to jail too and that would ruin his reputation. Another example would be when Marija had to turn to prostitution so she could make enough money to survive. She could have gotten arrested, simply because she was trying to live. Those opposed to entering this world tend to single out the negative aspects of it and use them as excuses not to join. Merriam Webster interprets social media as forms of electronic communication through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos) ( social media ). Nowhere in that definition does it suggest that only one platform exists. That being said, a great deal of good can, and does, emerge from a multitude of such forums. Human interactions are increasingly occurring in virtual settings; non participants stubbornly fight the inevitable as its versatility and convenience are too tough to resist. Although traditional school settings are still effective means of education, knowledge is certainly not restricted to the four walls of a classroom. Learning institutions, and parents alike, can barely afford to hire qualified tutors. Khan Academy, whose mission is to provide a free, world class education for anyone, anywhere ( mission statement ), aims to remedy said complications. Gladiatorial battles truly morphed into a game to the audience, as fans placed bets on who would win each battle. These gladiators were no longer looked at as human beings, but rather as bodies in a blood battle. These battles were so gruesome in order to entertain and appease the large audiences. The gladiators went to all costs when it came to the arena battles, and even created their own fighting styles in order to make the battles more interesting. I had no idea that gladiatorial battles were such an art, and that there were so many gladiatorial fighting styles implemented. Gladiators were armed with various weapons and had different fighting techniques. Some gladiators rode into the arena on horseback, known as equites , as a scare tactic before he fought his opponent. Others carried large shields that covered their entire bodies for protection, known as murmillo s , while some gladiators carried small shields that covered only their torso so they were better able to move around. 1 The picture below shows some of the other types of gladiators and the armor they wore for battle. (Figure 2)3 There is much debate over which type of gladiatorial protection was better suited to help win the battles. Many argued that gladiators with more armor and weapons were better equipped to win because they had more protection from fatal blows. Others argued that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of State Disinvestment In Higher Education One of the most obvious manifestations of this is the trend, now more than a decade in duration, of state disinvestment in higher education. The 12 percent decline in state funding we have absorbed in Kansas over the past 18 months was preceded by more than a decade of steady decline in the proportion of university budgets supported by state funds. We see this trend in nearly every state. State disinvestment in higher education is dangerous for a number of reasons. First, not investing in higher education means not investing in innovation, discovery, work force preparation and the growth of intellectual capital, all prominent features of the legendary American ingenuity. Hitchcock used sound effects similarly in both films to increase tension and suspense. Comparing both movies there are many similarities, as he showed little details in the background to give hints of what the audience should feel in the particular scene, he cleverly used the mode of mise en scГЁne to achieve this. His men and women seem to breathe, it has been said; his horses are full of action and his dogs of life. Because of VelГzquez great skill in merging color, light, space, rhythmof line, and mass in such a way that all have equal value, he was known as the painters painter, as demonstrated in the paintings Las Meninas, SebastiГ n de Morra, and Baltasar Carlosand a Dwarf. The interlocking of these luminous areas is the more vivid as the middle distance is cut off by the shadows which spread across the floor. The depth of the chamber is stressed by the alternation of window jambs and picture frames on the right hand wall, the stretcher of the large canvas on the left foreground, and the perspective sequence of the empty lamp hooks on the ceiling, which mark as central the spot in the rear wall where the King and the Queen are seen reflected in the mirror. In no other painting has VelГzquez rendered space in so architectural a manner as in this, the only work in which he has depicted a ceiling. Neither is there any other composition of his that is so vividly keyed to the space lying out of the picture frame. Recent studies of Las Meninas, inspired by the ideas of Michel Foucault, have paid considerable attention to the seemingly novel relationship between the scene on the canvas and the spectator. These ideas tacitly assume that the picture was meant to be seen by the public at large, as if it were hanging in an important museum, as it is today. He sees these birds and watches them disappear into the horizon freely and passionately. But after reading it again, I realized that it might not be about that, rather, it was about how the persona wonders how these birds allow themselves to follow the predestined path life made for them. The author writing style connects nature to commitments. In the first stanza of the poem, we see the persona asking how the seagulls found the perfect angle in the strong wind and adapted to it. The wind could possibly symbolize life, and the persona asks himself how these birds let themselves go with the flow when they know it ll end with them gone. In the second stanza, we see the persona coming back from where he came from whilst watching a cormorant intensely plunge itself into the unknown. Again, the persona is at a loss as to why the bird seems to have no care for the future when it ends the same for all of them: death. The Invention Of Dna Testing Improper forensics, bad lawyering, snitches, unqualified experts, eye witness misidentification, false confessions, and mishandled evidence are all just a few reasons for wrongful convictions in the justice system. However, the authors of Actual Innocence: When Justice Goes Wrong and How to Make it Right, discuss how DNA is a main factor into actually innocent people. Throughout this book we learn stories about those who were wrongfully convicted and later proven guilty for reasons such as DNA testing. While this proves to us that not everyone convicted is guilty, it points out many other errors in the criminal justicesystem as well. The beginning chapters of the book discuss the invention of DNA testing as well as the unreliability of eye witness testimony. As of 2003, the authors mention that thirty two states had post convictionDNA testing statutes with legislation pending in ten others (Dwyer 352). This allows testing when there is such DNA evidence relating to the crimeavailable. More than two thirds of the 130 post conviction DNA exonerations in the United States involved mistaken eye witness identifications (Dwyer 353).
