How Do Tattoos Communicate In Polynesian Cultures
Writing Prompts: What do tattoos communicate in Polynesian cultures? in the U.S.? The skin
stories we learned about in class in Polynesian culture was very interesting. In their culture tattoos
have a deeper meaning then some American tattoos. The origin of where they come from is a lot
different, not to say that U.S tattoos are not important. Because there are plenty of passionate
talented artists out there, that do a solid job at making special tattoos for people every day. But the
story of Polynesian tattoos came to be is very different since it has been around for centuries.
Polynesian people are carrying their family s origins on their skin. They are representing heritage
and lineage on their skin. It s beautiful that they demonstrate

Compare And Contrast Poseidon And Hades
It all started when Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades were fighting over the amount of power they
wanted to have. Zeus believed that he was the most worthy because he was the god of the sky and
weather. Zeus also believed he should be the most powerful because of his lightning bolt, this was
his weapon. Poseidon wasn t too thrilled that Zeuswas power hungry because Poseidon believed that
being the godof the sea and earthquakes. Poseidon also had a trident as a weapon. The third god
was Hadesand he also believed that he should be the one in charge. Hades was the god of the
underworld. All three gods were very powerful and also very power hungry. All three gods
decided that they would play games to decide who would receive the most power. They decided

Impact On Technology And Technology
The development of technology is upon the many fields of knowledge, including historical,
language learning, mathematical, etc. Every single moment of our day is affected due to the
inventions of years ago, from turning on a light switch to cooking breakfast. An invention that still
affects us today and will continue to do so is a computer. Although the computer continues to
modernize as time goes by, it has positively impacted the way a student s technology literacy
knowledge and skills are developed for professional success. Writing tools, such as pen and paper,
has modernized to meet our essential needs in a classroom environment. Technology continues to
advance so much that we could not live a day without it like a writer cannot live without writing.
Although personal computers were not initially meant for word processing either, through that has
become one of their primary functions (Baron 646). When computers were first introduced in a
classroom environment, teachers feared students would forget how to properly spell, but now
teachers complain if students do not double check their spelling when turning in their papers. A
student s literacy knowledge and skills development are not only advancing in spelling, but their
vocabulary is expanding as well. Success in literacy is measured by what a student can do with it,
not what they know about texts and print. Having a computer in hand gives us access to synonyms
and/or antonyms along with many more tools developing a

Nursing Home Reflection
The following paper is a reflection of my York Care Centre resident visitation in which I will
discuss my experiences. Throughout this paper I will be reflecting upon my feelings, thoughts,
learning moments and my abilities both successes and failures to connect with residents and how I
apply the skills and concepts that I was learning in this course. Additionally, I will also include
scholarly references to support a point in my reflection.
Since I heard, we will be going York Care Centre to visit the residents, my heart beat increase, I
was super excited and looking forward to it but at the same time, I was nervous and panicking. It
was the first time for me to visit a nursing home, I had never been to any of the nursing homes. As
our first visitation day comes closer, I started having so many questions to myself such as how
am I going to begin a conversation, what I am going to talk with them, and what I am going to do
when I first meet them. I was frightened and unsure of what to expect, not that I lacked confidence,
or I had never been to any of the nursing homes and had not dealt with elderly residents but that
what I had heard about nursing homes from other people. I had heard many sad and unpleasant
stories of nursing home residents, therefore, I felt I did not have enough skills to listen, console or
meet their needs.
So, the first visitation day finally come and as I was walking through the nursing home halls it was
smelling very medicinal and the sights around

Earth is the Planet of the Plants
Earth is the planet of the plants David Biello
According to the Biology Online dictionary, photosynthesis is the synthesis of complex organic
material using carbon dioxide, water, inorganic salts, and light energy from sunlight, captured by
light absorbing pigments, such as chlorophyll. This in other words, is the process through which
plants use carbon dioxide and water to grow, produce their food, and release ex cess of oxygen into
the air.
Plants versus Photovoltaics: Which Are Better to Capture Solar Energy? is an article written by
David Biello, and published in May 12, 2011. With this article, Biello s purpose was to determine
that the relative efficiency of photosynthesis and photovoltaics is not a simple problem. Biello s
main purpose with this article is to open up a question to the reader of whether plants are better at
capturing solar energy than photovoltaics or vise versa, and how each process contributes to
nature. In this essay, 3 main points will be discussed how each model convert energy, what can
each model bring to nature, and how can photosynthesis be improved and still conserve real nature
animals, like insects (no enhanced bugs or plants).
David Biello discusses the difference between plants and photovoltaics, and how each model uses
and gives energy. The question opens the discussion of which model is better at cap turing solar
energy. Photovoltaic cells turn the solar energy into flowing electrons, meanwhile, plant cells turn it
into plant

What Is Chartres Cathedral A Turning Point In Gothic...
Chartres Cathedral and St. Stephen s Cathedral
Chartres Cathedral is a medieval Catholic cathedral and Gothic masterpiece of the Latin Church
that was constructed between 1194 and 1220. It is located in the northwestern part of France and
is also known as Notre Dame of Chartres. Before the reconstruction of the Cathedral, there have
been five churches on the site of Chartres, all of which were burned down. This was seen as a
series of disasters that spurred people to rebuild. Chartres Cathedral is noted for it s architecture,
sculptures and elaborate stained glass windows.
It is not said that the Cathedral of Chartres was designed by architects, but by building contractors
who were led by men trained in the delicately complex aspects of their craft. Many people teamed
up in the making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the size and elaborate structure of the cathedral, more time and effort was needed to build its
structure. The erection of Chartres Cathedral is perhaps the single most important event in the
history of Gothic architecture. Gothic structures were not seen as simplistic or regular. It was the
turning point in design and was looked upon as a complex, natural art.
Every material used for the cathedral came from the ground or from forests. The masters worked
with geometric forms and the richness of their designs were enhanced by the disciplines involved in
using geometric techniques for every decision. Geometry aided in identifying masters and
understanding the nature of their design processes. Each master unveiled a part of history by
assembling all the joints between the campaigns. Gothic architecture has many features such as
pointed arches, ribbed vaulting, flying buttresses, stained glass windows and elaborate sculptures.
The original architects and masons intended on making the cathedral a glimpse of paradise on
earth. Although the architecture has minor changes and has never been extensively rebuilt, the
majority of the original stained

Apple Inc. s internal structure has become flexible as divisions are specifically established to
develop the latest product and maintain a competitive advantage. Apples industry segments were
than explored and it was noted that it was not possible to absolutely define a market which Apple
consistently performed in. Apple Inc. s multi functional product base gave a clearly indication of
the underlying strategic management at play. It was accepted that Apple has defined its own market
segment, that of mobile electronic devices . The four main strategic management themes of M.E.
Porter (focus, differentiation and cost leadership), G. Hamel C.K. Prahalad (structuralist), W.C.
Kim and R. Mauborgne (reconstructionist) and J. Ridderstråle and K. Nordström (intellect,

A Study On State Bank Of India
Chapter 6
FINDINGS OF THE REPORT
The following are the major findings of the report:
1.It is evident from personal observation and also from the analysis of 5.1,5.2,5.3 and5.4 that:
Almost 95% of the people in Guwahati have their accounts in State Bank of India. This is because
everyone has the stereotype that State Bank of India is the best amongst all the banks.
The younger generation people are comfortable in banking with the privatized banks while the elder
generation seems to be comfortable with the nationalized banks.
Now a days, it is found that customers are willing to have their accounts in multiple banks rather
than having it in one bank.
When asked about the people about which sector they would prefer banking with, ... Show more

Also other services like statement enquiry, insurance services, mobile and internet banking etc. are
also gaining importance day by day and these have to be looked by the banks seriously.
2.It is evident from personal observation and also from the analysis of 5.5.1, 5.5.2, 5.5.3, 5.5.4,
5.5.5 and 5.5.6 that:
The various facilities provided by the banks like availability of information brochures, ATM
machines in convenient locations, no long line ups at counters etc. are very important now a days
to gain customer satisfaction regarding the banks they are banking with. Also the customers like a
pleasant and attractive dГ©cor within the banks so that they can feel relax while doing their
important work with the banks.
3.It is evident from personal observation and also from the analysis of 5.6.1, 5.6.2, 5.6.3, 5.6.4,
5.6.5 ,5.6.6 and 5.6.7 that:
The manner, appearance, efficiency, professionalism and knowledge of the staffs of the bank also
play an important role in driving customers to their respective banks. The reason is that if the
staffs are not able to handle the queries or problems of the staffs then the customers are not
tempted to do banking with a particular bank. This may be either with a nationalized or a privatized
bank.
4.From personal observation and also from the analysis of 5.7, 5.8.1, 5.8.2, 5.8.3, 5.8.4, we can

Curley s Wife Analysis
John Steinbeck describes Curley s wife as a woman who brings darkness into man s life as she
is being sexualized and heavily objectified through the story. Not to mention that there are many
factors that portrayed Curley s wife as the villain in the book or considered as the character that
causes all the problems as she creates tension among characters especially Lennie. All of her
appearances cause the reader to dislike her and be the downfall of men. The author uses this to
prepare us for the deathof Curley s wife by the continuous use of foreshadowing, symbolism and
other events that contributed to the development of the idea that Curley s wife is going to be
murdered.

This quote describes how the event happened however, it was a misunderstanding because
despite Lennie s Stupidity he knows to differentiate between good and bad. He has the mentality
of a child which deprives him of having an emotional capacity to really understand what he is
doing. By saying he had conflicts with a girl or the attempts to touch her, we infer that later on,
he is going to have problems with a lady again. By the fact that Lennie all mixed up, and he
holds on cause that s the only thing he can think to do. (page 41) he holds and touches the girl s
soft dress, but due to his lack of attention, he didn t let go when asked to. It shows he is
frightened and will hold to something until George comes to rescue him and make him realize he
is in trouble. Overall we can create a perception that in the future Lennie will have some trouble
with a girl, we can see he enjoys touching soft things, which lead to Curley s wife offering to touch
her hair and Lennie getting over excited that leads to her accidental

Life In Milan Kundera s The Unbearable Lightness Of Being
In The Unbearable Lightness of Being , Milan Kundera informs readers that without the ability
to compare our lives to others, we cannot find meaning in our lives, but remain between life s
lightness and heaviness. He does this by illustrating the relationships between four characters:
Tomas, Tereza, Sabina, and Franz. The novel begins in the year 1968 with Tomas, who is a
brilliant surgeon from Prague and a perpetual bachelor. In a small town cafe, he fortuitously met
Tereza, who was his waitress; to Tereza, the moment was magical because one of her favorite
compositions by Beethoven was playing on the radio and that he enjoyed literature. Tereza
evidently followed Tomas to Prague with her life packed within a suitcase and she intended to
offer her life to him. The two started living with each other, but Tomas was incapable of
terminating his bachelor lifestyle full of mistresses. He tried to hide his infidelity, but Tereza
found a letter from one of his mistresses, Sabina. She wrote to Tomas saying, I want to make love
to you in my studio. It will be like a stage surrounded by people. The audience won t be allowed
up close, but they won t be able to take their eyes off us. (Pg. 16). Tomas confessed and told her
that these sexual acts were separate from his love for her. This information marred Tereza s
mind; she starting having horrendous nightmares and began contemplating suicide. He then
married her, to relieve her of her distress. Yet he still kept his mistresses. Eventually Sabina and
Tereza become close friends, but Tereza s jealousy still remained the same. Sabina, Tereza, and
Tomas fled to Switzerland due to the Soviet Union inhabiting Czechoslovakia. Tereza left behind
her career as a photographer, became unemployed, and had to sit home alone as Tomas continued
his affairs. She then began to believe, when the strong were too weak to hurt the weak, the weak
have to be strong enough to leave. (Pg. 75). Then, she returned back to Prague. Tomas was
enjoying his liberation for a few days, but he gave up and left for Prague. This evidently meant that
the couple gave up their freedom because there was no chance that the couple would be allowed to
leave again due to the Communist regime. In

Meyrowitz s Theory Of Communication
Medium theory by Joshua Meyrowitz, (1985) refers to the body of literature that focuses on the
various approaches used in examining how different means of expression of human communication
affect the communication process in the society. It mainly focuses on the technological aspect of
the media later than its content. According to Croteau and Hoynes, (2003) the medium theory aims
at determining the look beyond the media content that reveals its social impact to the society.
Various scholars also investigated the medium theory and its impact to the communication industry
in the society. For instance the contribution by McLuhan, (1963, 1966, 1988) and Postman, (1985)
indicate that the medium theory in the United States occupies a marginal position... Show more

The medium theory concentrates mainly on the impact of the media on psychic and social schemes
and how they influence the human behavior in the society on a day to day basis, but it tends to

television content, where the theory the medium theory doesn t seem to take into account the
negative influence that may originate from the media, hence negatively affecting the children or the

What Is The Mood Of The Poem Blackberry-Picking
In the poem Blackberry Picking, the author discusses the harshness of life by describing his
experience picking blackberries. While the poem is rather dark, he maintains the message that
childish hopes still exist despite the continual blockade of reality.
In the first stanza, Heaney describes the berry picking as a rather unimportant task. The blackberries
represent the hope and excitement that summer is: summer s blood was in it (6). The childish
hopefulness is expressed in the conversational tone, created by the syntax found within the rhythm.
The author organizes the sentences in a way that varies the stressed and unstressed syllable to keep
the experience of berry picking casual and light.
The rhyme scheme of AABB keeps a sense of organized structure throughout the poem.
The author often includes slant rhyme to eliminate the sing song pattern many poems have: for
/hunger (7 8).
The use of descriptive diction allows the reader to clearly visualize the experience. The clear
imagery of the berry s flesh (5) sweetened like thickened wine ... Show more content on

This is paradoxically established when the author says: all the lovely canfuls smelt of rot (23).
The hopes of sweet and lovely blackberries are destroyed by the inevitable decay of what was
sweet and satisfying in the berries. This grim picture of the destruction of the things we cherish
enough to search for even when wet grass bleached our boots (10), displays a depressing picture
of the world around us. Although human possessions, in this case the berries, do not live forever,
the hope that goodness will carry on is exhibited in the childish hopes that the berries will stay fresh
despite the knowledge that the berries themselves will

Gender Discrimination In Nursing
Today, most people perceive nursing as a women profession. Men who enter this field have been
looked at as outcasts. Many individuals feel that a man does not belong in a female profession. I
believe that statement to be untrue and unfair. The issue of gender discrimination in nursing is the
same as any other professions. The only difference is nursing is dominated by women, and men are
the minority fighting for equality. My goal in this paper is to help you understand why I m arguing
that men should be welcomed in the nursing profession. Genderor sex discriminationinvolves
treating an employee or a category of employees differently because of gender. Whenever this
discrimination affects the terms or conditions of employment, it is illegal. Gender based different
treatment of employees with regard to pay, title, position, hours worked and vacation time is
generally considered illegal and wrong. Just 2.7 percent of the working nursing population in the
United States are men. To understand why nursing is dominated by women we have to analyze the
history. Malenurses may belong, but there s still not many around. According to the U.S. Labor
Department statistics, 6.7 percent of registered nurses were male. Gender discrimination in
nursing exists because of prejudices male students encounter in the classroom, in the workplace
and with patients. Over the years discrimination of males in the nursing has declined but just like
racial discrimination it still exists. To understand gender discrimination in nursing we must first
understand the past. Nursing was found in the 3rd century in ancient Rome and was dominated
by men. Since the 20th century women have dominated the nursing profession. Actually, in the
1897 American Nurse Association was founded, and no men were allowed. The rule eventually
changed in 1930, allowing men the right to be a nurse. Are male nurses accepted by female
nurses? I feel like if you are in the nursing profession and don t understand that there is a shortage
of nurses in the world then it shouldn t matter if they are male or female. Every gender should be
accepted. The require for male nurses is on a rise, partly because there is a growing demand for
nurses in general. That also

The Characteristics Of John Wooden s Definition Of Success
John Wooden once said, Success is peace of mind attained only through self satisfaction and
knowing you ve made the effort, do the best of what you re capable. This quote is relevant to the
question of what success is to me. This is relevant to the question of what is the definition of
success because John Wooden s definition of success is near perfect. To give you a better
understanding, I will use three different traits from the Pyramid of Success. I will explain to you
why these are related to success. Finally, I will use examples from the skype that our History in
the Movies class had with former basketball player, Bobby Plump. The first trait from the
Pyramid of Success that I think creates success is Confidence. I think confidence is a really big
deal when it comes to success. If you come into a sports game and you believe that you and your
team will come out victorious, than you and your team will play at higher levels. It doesn t matter
if the challengers have more talent, it matters who has more heart. When Bobby Plump put up a
shot when he played basketball, he didn t this it was going to miss, he thought it was going through
the net every single time. In the movie Hoosiers, when Jimmy Chitwood (Bobby Plump), shot the
ball, he could be moving, fading away, or the shot could be heavily contested and he would miss
sometimes. But after all, he kept shooting because he was confident. Confidence doesn t just pass
for sports, it is also a trait you should hold

12 Minor Prophets Of The Old Testament
One of the 12 minor prophets of the Old Testament, Haggai, played an essential role in the
rebuilding of the temple of the Lord. Although we are not given the specific details about when
it is written or who wrote the book of Haggai, it is often assumed that Haggai himself wrote it.
Scholars also presume that it was written around 520 B.C. due to the specifics of the time period
given in the book itself. It is a rather short book, only consisting of two chapters, and exact dates
are given as to when the Lord spoke to Haggai regarding the rebuilding of the temple. For
example, Haggai opens up by saying that the Lord first spoke to Haggai on the first day of the
sixth month of the rule of Darius. The messages from the Lord to Haggai were directed to the
governor, Zerubbabel, the high priest, Joshua,a and sometimes to all the people of Judah. These
messages usually focus on the apathy of the people to rebuild the temple of the Lord.
The people of God during The Book of Haggai are avoiding rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. The
first temple was built by Solomon, the son of David. David initially wanted to build the temple,
but God gave the task to Solomon. The Babylonians led by Nebuchadnezzar marched into
Jerusalem and destroyed this first temple of God. The temple was to be rebuilt, but it was being
avoided largely during the time of Haggai. Consequently, God spoke to Haggai and had him relay
messages to his people. God started by asking the people how they live in their

The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe
It was much pleasanter at home, thought poor Alice, `when one wasn t always growing larger
and smaller, and being ordered about by mice and rabbits. I almost wish I hadn t gone down that
rabbit hole and yet and yet it s rather curious, you know, this sort of life! I do wonder what can
have happened to me . Lewis Carroll s Alice in Wonderland which takes the reader into the
fantasy world of rabbit holes and mad hatters, magic cakes and secret doors, very articulately
conveys that food can be used as a temptation or as a ploy tool to trap the protagonist to indulge
in mischievous activities. Caroll s Alice not only instantaneously grows in size when she eats
certain foods but also shrinks when she eats or drinks certain things as well. Food fantasies play
a very crucial role in children s literature be it in Alice in Wonderland or C.S. Lewis 1950
allegorical novel , The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Both these fantastical stories focus on
interpersonal conflicts and food fantasies of the child protagonist. Lewis s novel reflects Edmund
Penvensie s weakness for sweet foods, which are quickly discerned by the White Witch. Both
Caroll and Lewis allude the significance of food in relation to adulthood and childhood, using food
as a dichotomic symbol for empowerment and domination and as a medium for didactic teachings..
In these fantasy stories and in their imaginary worlds children are allowed to enjoy enticing foods
that perhaps do not exist in reality, which

How Did Charlemagne Build An Empire
Charlemagne was born around 742 748. Charlemagne s youth suggests that he received practically
training for leadership by participating in the political, social, and military activities associated
with his father court. After his father s death he became emperor and known as Charles the Great.
Also he expanded his kingdom. After his expansion of the kingdom he, died and died of with
succession.
Charlemagne as emperor was a zealous defender of Christianity. He gave money and land to the
Christian church and protected the popes. To acknowledge Charlemagne s power and reinforce
his relationship with the church. On December 25,800, Pope Leo III crowned Charlemagne
emperor of the Romans. As emperor, Charlemagne proved to be a talented diplomat and able
administrator of the vast area he controlled. He encouraged the Carolingian Renaissance to
promote education a period of renewed emphasis on scholarship and culture. With the economy and
religious reforms and driving force behind the Carolingian miniscule, a standardized form of

Management Information System Case Study
Question:
1. In the case study, we referred to the systems being developed and used as decision support
systems. However, we also identified various artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. How can a
decision support system incorporate and use AI technologies such as pattern recognition?
Answer:
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) tools and techniques can aid in the diagnosis of disease states
and assessment of treatment outcomes, so AI can be used by a decision support system as pattern
recognition to analyze healthcare data and generate a representation of knowledge and make a
decision support.
One of this AI technologies tools is the Artificial Neural Networks which work much like the

know that this my health profiles are really needed for them to determine the appropriate

profile.
Question:
3. In this case, demographic information such as ethnicity, gender, and age greatly impacts the
quality of the decision support and analysis. The same could be argued for the predictive
analytics system used by the Richmond police in this chapter s first case study. Why would some
people find it acceptable to use such demographic data in this case (for medical purposes) and not
in the first case (for predicting crime, its location, and its timing)?
Answer:
For me the demographic data is really meant or better to use for medical purposes than for
predicting crime. Woman ages from 60 80 are prone to osteoporosis. is an example of what I
always heard about health. I believe that there are diseases for specific age or gender, for
example uterus cancer is for woman only and alzheimer s disease is for adult and not for children.
And for ethnicity, I think people s health will also be affected from their environment, the way they
live or the food they eat. So this demographic data is really used in medical purpose. And

Tasha Cobbs Research Paper
There is power in the name of Jesus, to break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.
Many people may know this song because of Tasha Cobbs. She is a gospel artist who uses her
gift of singing to bless and minister to others. I admire Tasha Cobbs because she glorifies Jesus
Christ in all that she does, makes uplifting music, and motivates me to believe that I do not have to
live a defeated life. I appreciate her for that.
Tasha Cobbs knows who God is to her and makes sure I know also. She glorifies Jesus Christ every
chance that she gets. For example, on May 6, 2014 she ministered on the BET Celebration of
Gospel with her hit single Break every chain and as she was singing so beautifully to her God, I felt

Cobbs decrees and declares the word of God over her life. She has faith in God and believes that
His word is true, which is why she does not settle for less. For example, she father passed away
in the same week of the 2014 Celebration of Gosepel. Many people believed that she would
cancel her performance on the because of her father s death. Instead she went on the stage and
ministered. Cobbs won three Stellar Awards and a Grammy and in receiving those awards, she
testified about the joy of the Lord that she has is her strength during the passing of her father.
Cobbs made it known that she may weep every now and then, but she is content with her father s
passing because she is remind of the scripture that says To be absent in the body is to present
with the Lord. She knew her father was in pain, so she has hope and believes that her father is in
heaven where there is no weeping, pain, or sorrow. Her testimony was an encouragement for me
because if God can give her joy during the time where she should be grieving than I know that he
will do the same for me. I truly admire Tasha Cobbs she promotes the light of Jesus Christ and
testifies about God s goodness, mercy, and grace that he bestows on us daily. It makes me more

Comedic Relief in the Bleek Novel, Hard Times by Charles...
In every bleak novel there is one character who is always there for comedic relief; in Hard Times,
that character is Mrs. Sparsit. Mrs. Sparsit is the housekeeper for Mr. Bounderby. Essentially
she does all the work that a wife would do except she has a lower status than a wife, but higher
than a servant. Here in lies the problem that she cannot deal with. Mrs. Sparsit came from a well
to do family, but slipped in the social rankings. To regain her pride, she attempts to sabotage Mr.
Bounderby s marriage, but in doing so only makes her a fool. In this passage, a robbery has just
occurred and the townspeople are trying to figure out who the perpetrator is. As of right now,
they believe it is Stephen Blackpool. Shaken by the events, Mrs. Sparsit stays at Mr. Bounderby s
house. The purpose of this passage is to show that it is not Mr. Bounderby who is the fool, but
rather Mrs. Sparsit, who does not seem to understand that her actions against Bounderby do not
have an impact on him at all. What does Mr. Bounderby care about? Certainly not Mrs. Sparsit.
Mr. Bounderby is an egotistical man who only cares about his social status and money. He married
Louisa with the goal in mind to make her his trophy wife and to have connections with Mr.
Gradgrind it has nothing to do with his emotional connection with Louisa. Thus, Mrs. Sparsit s
determination to pity Mr. Bounderby is completely futile. Mrs. Sparsit continues to attempt to

Huckleberry Finn Ending
Many critics argue that the ending to Huckleberry Finn is poor because it shows a regression of
Huck s character that negates much of the growth Huck experiences throughout his journey down
the Mississippi River and changes the novel s focal point onto Tom rather than Huck. Tom Quirk,
author of articles on American literature and specifically many studies of Mark Twain, states that
the ending of the novel essentially disregarded whatever moral growth and social seriousness the
narrative had acquired in favor of rather trivial burlesque on the grounds that there was a certain
consistency and aptness to the gesture. Huck s journey down the Mississippi serves as a coming of
age story in that Huck learns to follow his own conscious and determine

We Read To Know We Re Not Alone
Reading allows me to explore and go on a journey, and take part of myself on that journey. I can
relate with characters in books whether they are fictional or real. We all read for pleasure, to
explore, even to share all the same feelings we all share reading the book, and feeling the same
feelings the authors of the books went through themselves. This is what makes a book fun to
read. That is what I think C.S. Lewis meant when he said We read to know we re not alone
because books let us feel the experiences others felt, and share the same thoughts and feelings as
others around us. This summer I read the book Going Solo. In the autobiography Roald Dahl

Durkheim s Account of the Importance of Rituals in Modern...
Durkheim s account of the importance of rituals in modern society
Durkheim s theories on ritual are an integral part of his work on religion, outlined in his book
The Elementary Forms of Religious Life . Rites are defined by Durkheim as determined modes of
action (Durkheim, 1915, pg. 36). They are ceremonies that are active expressions of particular
beliefs or aspects of a religion. It is necessary to consider and assess the theories on religion before
examining and assessing those on rites and ritual specifically. Durkheim studied Australian totem
tribes in order to uncover the elementary forms of religious life and to gain something of an insight
into the origins and functions of religion. He believed that religions served a ... Show more content

However, a flag is also an example of the profane; it has a material existence. The sacred is thus
projected onto this profane object and despite it merely being a piece of fabric it represents
much more to the people. It represents the feelings of patriotism and community and closeness
(Cuff et al. 2006). A totem is a profane object or animal that is seen as sacred, and is worshipped
by all members of a religious society. Because all the individuals of a religious society follow the
same duties and rituals associated with the totem, they are morally bound to one another
(Giddens, 1972, pg. 227). He theorised that religion and ritual produced categories of
understanding ; the basic categories, which cover the ways in which objects are perceived; for
instance all objects can be seen to occupy time and space. These categories are also perceived in
the same way by all the members of the society, so religion also influences the very basis by
which people think about the world. The concept of moral unity is still observable in religious
communities today, especially in smaller cultures. However, larger industrialised societies tend to
be more divided and there are more varieties in belief in a given society. Furthermore, the increase
in secularisation has meant that the functional aspects of religion, as outlined by Durkheim have
not had an effect on those who are not religious. The example, of the national flag; however,
indicates that

Response To Marmot s The Status Syndrome
In The Status Syndrome, Marmot argues that socioeconomic conditions lead to a hierarchical
health gradient, where mortality progressively decreases as one s socioeconomic status improves.
He illustrates this using mortality rate data about workers in the British civil service from the
Whitehall studies. The studies show that mortality in all age groups is higher for clerical workers,
who earn less and have a lower social standing, as compared to other professionals. Moreover,
administrators, who earn more than both these groups, have the lowest mortality rates, which
shows a gradient in health. Additionally, none of these workers are in poverty, and have access to
medical care, which further highlights that the health gradient is a phenomenon

and related legislation concerning holidays, rest periods, working hours and night working It is
imperative that the employee can balance his/her working life against his/her personal life.
With sufficient time off and rest periods, employees will feel looked after and be motivated to
put in more effort. There will be a reduction of mistakes because the employee has had adequate
rest which results in a more positive working environment. Employers who introduce such
practices in the work place in order to help employees achieve a better and satisfactory work/life
balance can expect to see an increase in motivation, enhanced performance/productivity and
greater staff loyalty. By implementing a positive work/life balance, companies are successful,

1812. It started in 1812 and lasted until the spring of 1815. There were three main causes for the
war taking place, America trading with parts of Europe(France), the Impressment, and the possible

Discrimination towards the Jewish religion and ethnicity is evident within as several examples
show the ignorance of others towards the Jews and is a reflection of how their community was
seen by others. The influence that the racism has on the children becomes apparent through
showing that they are accustom to it once they arrive at a public beach and see a soda stand
when Hershey says, Gas should go, Hershey said. He s the least jewish looking of the gang. (68).
The children try to get their Non Jewish looking friend to buy the drinks because they know they
will be denied service by the vendor for being Jewish, this examples follows with the discovery of
a sign stating that Jews are prohibited from swimming in the public area of the beach, and must
swim in their designated area. The Jewish culture is symbolized through the contrast of the way in
which they are not only how they are perceived negatively by others, but how they want to be
perceived. The community acknowledges the stereotypes by somewhat

A Powerful Philosophy Of The Sacramento Technology Industry
A Powerful Philosophy He was much shorter than I expected when I met him; standing at only
five feet three inches. I had woken up that morning with a feeling of anticipation. Hundreds of
questions bounced around in my head and I was finally going to meet the guy whom I hoped
had all the answers. I quickly got dressed in my form fitting suit, ate breakfast, and then eagerly
started the thirty minute drive to Folsom. That afternoon I had lunch with Mr.Lokesh Sikaria.
Mr.Sikaria is one of the most prominent business men in the Sacramento technology industry
and I reached out to him because I was extremely interested in pursuing a similar career.
Mr.Sikaria, who received a master s in electrical engineering and a minor in business from the
University of California Berkeley, initiated his career at a small consulting firm. He quickly
moved to a chief operator position at Rapidigm Inc where he controlled millions of dollars in
company revenue. A few years later, he started his own IT consulting firm, which was wildly
successful, and now operates a venture capitalfirm in Folsom California. There is no doubt in my
mind that Mr. Sikaria is very successful personally, but what really makes him stand out is his
ability to be successful personally and help the community at the same time. The ability to do this
is impressive and should be imitated by everyone in order to have a greater impact on the world.
To succeed personally is to do and accomplish things that enhance your own

Putin also claimed that Russia bore the greatest weight against Germany.
Putin s speech was presented at the Jewish Museum as the world celebrated the 70th anniversary of
liberation of Auschwitz by the Red Army in 1945.
By Putin s own admission, he hunted rats for food as a child growing up poor in St. Petersburg,
this explains volumes on his personality. Critics might ask how he felt hunting his own relatives in

It would accomplish a number of items on their agenda.
First it would cripple the Iranian world and show the vulnerability of the alliance between Russia
and Iran. By 2015 Iran which represented a large portion of the Shiite world had made its move
against against the Sunni s under the guise of destroying radical Islam. In reality it was just a full
circle to proclaim the Shiite as the predominate and only faith of Islam.
The Mora brothers realized the danger represented by Iran and saw them as the number one
enemy of their cause. Lets get real, you don t last for as long as Iran had existed by sheer luck.
The Mora brothers had the benefit of a first class Ivy League education. Their father, Charles
wanted them to have this luxury as he believed the best way to be misinformed was through an
elitists institution that are totally out of touch with reality.
Thus in a strange way what they learned through this education was exactly what their father
wanted them to learn. The realities of life from his perspective.
The brothers had the financial means to accomplish the goal of destroying Iran, or at least
crippling Iran s efforts to be a major player on the global stage.
The expenditure to do this was considered more of an opportunity cost, if you can influence the
direction of history you know what to invest in to recover any outlays. To show their hearts were in

The Use of Bandura s Social Learning Theory in Schools Essay
One of the central tenants of Albert Bandura s Social Learning Theory, which is also called
Social Cognitive Theory, is that aggression in children is influenced by the reinforcement of
family members, the media, and the environment (Bandura, 1975, pp. 206 208). Evans (1989)
suggested that the basis for Bandura s theories came from work completed by researchers Miller
and Dollard (1941) who suggested that human development is actively influenced by response
consequences (Evans, 1989, p. 4), but regardless of the impetus for Bandura s work, he is most
known for his work regarding aggressionin children. This paper will focus on why the principles of
Bandura s Social Learning Theory will benefit leaders in school environments as they... Show more

Therefore, from a human developmental perspective, the self efficacy characteristic can aid
students in comprehending the link between current behavior and future consequences (Evans,
1989). Bandura also noted that there were four distinct processes that influence a child s behavior
attention, retention, motor reproduction and motivation. During the attention phase, a child will
observe behaviors conducted around them and if this attention is thorough enough, the child will
absorb the reactions and reasons for the aggressive behavior modeled. Bandura believed that the
second stage, retention, is also vitally important because it is this re enactment that causes the
behavior to be transferred to the long term memory of the child. Of course, even if the child has
memorized the actions, they still need to have the physical attributes necessary to reproduce an
action they have seen, but there is little physical dexterity needed to hit or punch something (Isom,
1998). The final phase of this process is the motivation for the behavior. In Bandura s experiment
the children observed an adult praised for behaving badly, and this is enough, under Bandura s
theory, to cement those actions into a repeatable response by the child at a later stage. Bandura
believes this theory also supports the rise in the number of aggressive teens in high crime areas
(Isom, 1998). It is this correlation between

Oralism In The Early 20th Century
In France, the United States, and some other countries, instruction and communication were carried
out in various sign languages, while in Britain, Germany, and elsewhere in northern Europe oralism
(speech and lipreading) dominated. These schools graduates formed local and national deaf
communities. For example, deaf Swedes founded the Stockholm Deaf Club in 1868. In the mid
19th century school alumni in the United States, who communicated in the American Sign
Language (ASL) they had developed, established newspapers, churches, and social clubs. During
the late 19th and early 20th centuries an aggressive oralist movement challenged sign languages
everywhere. Resisting oralism, the American deaf community formed state political associations
and, in 1880, founded the National Association of the Deaf. Deaf advocates fought the revamping
of education and defended ASL.

Facts and Information on Fresh Water Ecosystems
1. Compare and contrast the main types of freshwater ecosystems. Name and describe the major
zones or a typical pond or lake. There are two main types of freshwater ecosystems, those that are
eutrophic, and oligotrophic. Both share the same salinity, yet oligotrophic lakes contain more
oxygen than fish. On the flipside, eutrophic ecosystems have more fish than oxygen, which has
more cyanobacteria and require less oxygen. The ecosystems have similar food chains, yet they
differ on oxygen resources, thus making species differ from eutrophic and oligotrophic
ecosystems. Ponds would be eutrophic, and lakes would be oligotrophic from the fish. Ponds
not having a cycle of water flowing differentiates them from each other. 2. Describe three
benefits of damming rivers, and three costs. What environmental, health, and social concerns has
China s three gorges dam raised? Many cities rely on reservoirs for their source of drinkable
water. Also, Energy production from dams have the potential to large amounts of electrical
energy and profit. Flooding precautions are beneficial due to any amount of water can be
controlled by a spillway. Source of usable water by using reservoirs for their source of fresh water.
From China s Three Gorges Dam, there has been many social and environmental concerns. After
completion of the dam in 2008, there was an increase in landslides that affected all three of the
concerns above. Human, Animal and Nature has been drastically changed after the dam

How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Done
Art is never finished, only abandoned. This is one of Leonardo da Vinci s famous quotes. I
personally find it appealing and memorizing. This is 100% true as well! Nothing in life is ever
truly finished! Leonardo da Vinci was pure genius, however not just from his quotes. He did much,
much, more!
Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452. He was born in Vinci Italy. His exact birthplace was
in a farmhouse in the middle of the beautiful hills of Tuscany outside the village of Anchiano in
what is now Italy. Leonardo da Vinci most likely spent most of his time with his uncle, Francesco,
instead of his two unmarried parents. At the age of 15, Leonardo da Vinci became the apprentice of
the artist Andrea del Verrocchio. Andrea del Verrocchio... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He studied the field of civil engineering, and created many amazing inventions. His invention of
the parachute was an international breakthrough! He also invented scissors, which also changed
the world, and is nowadays used in almost every classroom and almost every household.
Leonardo da Vinci also sketched up the first helicopter. He may not have built it, but he did
imagaine it, and his sketch helped modern day scientists and engineers build the helicopter. Not
only did Leonardo da Vinci sketch the helicopter, create the parachute, and invent the scissors, but
he also built The Revolving Bridge. The Revolving Bridge was a portable bridge, used over a
variety of bodies of water. It was mostly used by armies to pass over rivers, streams, and small
lakes. Leonardo da Vinci originally designed it for Duke Sforza.
I think that this field of science is something I would like to study because I enjoy both building
and creating, and I adore art. I definitely think that if I ever become a scientist, this would be the
field of science I would enjoy! I spend most of my time drawing and building, much like Leonardo
da Vinci did. And it just so happens that I ve always had an eye for science, and it seems to be my
best subject. I hope that maybe, just maybe, one day, I will be just as good as artist as Leonardo da
Vinci. So as I conclude my essay, I would like to say just one more genius quote by Leonardo da
Vinci

Code of Hammurabi Vs. The Ten Commandments.
Picture a king so ahead of his time and so powerful that he was aware of the importance and sense
of urgency behind establishing laws to ensure the growth of civilization and humanity. His name
was Hammurabi and he was the king of Babylon. He reigned from 1792 B.C. all the way to 1750
B.C. As an innovative and feared king he created 282 laws for everyone to follow, as gruesome
as an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth and as political as ranking people from nobles to slaves and
everything in between, he started a new era for Central Mesopotamia then, and all of humanity
now. (Edgar et al) As unimaginable as it sounds for someone to come up with a simple 282 laws
for a just way of living; at a later time in Egypt there was someone else coming up with a more
spiritual way of life. The Ten Commandments, although history says that Moses discovered the
stone some time in 1400 B.C., 300 years after, it has been said that these commandments were
known about since the beginning of time from a Higher Power. Moses was a former Egyptian
prince and later became a Prophet. The bible quotes Moses as one of the greatest Prophets of
history. Facing Pharaoh Ramses and freeing the Jews from slavery, he was one of the most
important religious leaders of all time. These commandments explain a better

Ottoman Domes
The dome is considered one of the most important architectural elements in Islamic culture and the
dome became a very important architectural element during the Ottoman time period and many of
these domes drew from earlier Islamic and the Hellenistic Roman world. The dome is one of the
most important elements of the Ottoman time period and they were known for being one of the
main cultures in history to incorporate domes as a main component in their architecture. Ottomans
used domes in mosques (the largest domes were reserved for mosques), madrasas, and tГјrbes.
Monumental domes began to appear in the 14th century in the Ottoman capital Bursa, in the 15th
century in Edirne and after the conquest of Constantinople in Istanbul. This paper will address the
domes built under the Ottomans from the late 1300s to the 1600s. However, it is important to note
that early Ottoman architecture was heavily influenced by both Seljuks and the Byzantines their
immediate predecessors. The dome itself, as built by the Ottomans are almost all hemispherical in
shape. Theresa Grupico explains that Domes and tent canopies were associated with the heavens in
Ancient Persia and the Hellenistic Roman world. A dome over a square base reflected the
geometric symbolism of those shapes. The circle represented perfection, eternity, and the heavens.
The square represented the Earth. An octagon was intermediate between the two.
The Ottoman empire began modestly, as a principality of the western vanguard

  • 4. Impact On Technology And Technology The development of technology is upon the many fields of knowledge, including historical, language learning, mathematical, etc. Every single moment of our day is affected due to the inventions of years ago, from turning on a light switch to cooking breakfast. An invention that still affects us today and will continue to do so is a computer. Although the computer continues to modernize as time goes by, it has positively impacted the way a student s technology literacy knowledge and skills are developed for professional success. Writing tools, such as pen and paper, has modernized to meet our essential needs in a classroom environment. Technology continues to advance so much that we could not live a day without it like a writer cannot live without writing. Although personal computers were not initially meant for word processing either, through that has become one of their primary functions (Baron 646). When computers were first introduced in a classroom environment, teachers feared students would forget how to properly spell, but now teachers complain if students do not double check their spelling when turning in their papers. A student s literacy knowledge and skills development are not only advancing in spelling, but their vocabulary is expanding as well. Success in literacy is measured by what a student can do with it, not what they know about texts and print. Throughout this paper I will be reflecting upon my feelings, thoughts, learning moments and my abilities both successes and failures to connect with residents and how I apply the skills and concepts that I was learning in this course. Additionally, I will also include scholarly references to support a point in my reflection. Since I heard, we will be going York Care Centre to visit the residents, my heart beat increase, I was super excited and looking forward to it but at the same time, I was nervous and panicking. It was the first time for me to visit a nursing home, I had never been to any of the nursing homes. As our first visitation day comes closer, I started having so many questions to myself such as how am I going to begin a conversation, what I am going to talk with them, and what I am going to do when I first meet them. I was frightened and unsure of what to expect, not that I lacked confidence, or I had never been to any of the nursing homes and had not dealt with elderly residents but that what I had heard about nursing homes from other people. I had heard many sad and unpleasant stories of nursing home residents, therefore, I felt I did not have enough skills to listen, console or meet their needs. • 6. Earth is the Planet of the Plants Earth is the planet of the plants David Biello According to the Biology Online dictionary, photosynthesis is the synthesis of complex organic material using carbon dioxide, water, inorganic salts, and light energy from sunlight, captured by light absorbing pigments, such as chlorophyll. This in other words, is the process through which plants use carbon dioxide and water to grow, produce their food, and release ex cess of oxygen into the air. Plants versus Photovoltaics: Which Are Better to Capture Solar Energy? is an article written by David Biello, and published in May 12, 2011. With this article, Biello s purpose was to determine that the relative efficiency of photosynthesis and photovoltaics is not a simple problem. Biello s main purpose with this article is to open up a question to the reader of whether plants are better at capturing solar energy than photovoltaics or vise versa, and how each process contributes to nature. In this essay, 3 main points will be discussed how each model convert energy, what can each model bring to nature, and how can photosynthesis be improved and still conserve real nature animals, like insects (no enhanced bugs or plants). David Biello discusses the difference between plants and photovoltaics, and how each model uses and gives energy. The question opens the discussion of which model is better at cap turing solar energy. Photovoltaic cells turn the solar energy into flowing electrons, meanwhile, plant cells turn it into plant ... • 7. What Is Chartres Cathedral A Turning Point In Gothic... Chartres Cathedral and St. Stephen s Cathedral Chartres Cathedral is a medieval Catholic cathedral and Gothic masterpiece of the Latin Church that was constructed between 1194 and 1220. It is located in the northwestern part of France and is also known as Notre Dame of Chartres. Before the reconstruction of the Cathedral, there have been five churches on the site of Chartres, all of which were burned down. This was seen as a series of disasters that spurred people to rebuild. Chartres Cathedral is noted for it s architecture, sculptures and elaborate stained glass windows. It is not said that the Cathedral of Chartres was designed by architects, but by building contractors who were led by men trained in the delicately complex aspects of their craft. The erection of Chartres Cathedral is perhaps the single most important event in the history of Gothic architecture. Gothic structures were not seen as simplistic or regular. It was the turning point in design and was looked upon as a complex, natural art. Every material used for the cathedral came from the ground or from forests. The masters worked with geometric forms and the richness of their designs were enhanced by the disciplines involved in using geometric techniques for every decision. Geometry aided in identifying masters and understanding the nature of their design processes. Each master unveiled a part of history by assembling all the joints between the campaigns. Gothic architecture has many features such as pointed arches, ribbed vaulting, flying buttresses, stained glass windows and elaborate sculptures. The original architects and masons intended on making the cathedral a glimpse of paradise on earth. All of her appearances cause the reader to dislike her and be the downfall of men. • 13. Life In Milan Kundera s The Unbearable Lightness Of Being In The Unbearable Lightness of Being , Milan Kundera informs readers that without the ability to compare our lives to others, we cannot find meaning in our lives, but remain between life s lightness and heaviness. He does this by illustrating the relationships between four characters: Tomas, Tereza, Sabina, and Franz. The novel begins in the year 1968 with Tomas, who is a brilliant surgeon from Prague and a perpetual bachelor. In a small town cafe, he fortuitously met Tereza, who was his waitress; to Tereza, the moment was magical because one of her favorite compositions by Beethoven was playing on the radio and that he enjoyed literature. Tereza evidently followed Tomas to Prague with her life packed within a suitcase and she intended to offer her life to him. The two started living with each other, but Tomas was incapable of terminating his bachelor lifestyle full of mistresses. He tried to hide his infidelity, but Tereza found a letter from one of his mistresses, Sabina. She wrote to Tomas saying, I want to make love to you in my studio. It will be like a stage surrounded by people. The audience won t be allowed up close, but they won t be able to take their eyes off us. (Pg. 16). Tomas confessed and told her that these sexual acts were separate from his love for her. This information marred Tereza s mind; she starting having horrendous nightmares and began contemplating suicide. He then married her, to relieve her of her distress. Yet he still kept his mistresses. Eventually Sabina and Tereza become close friends, but Tereza s jealousy still remained the same. Sabina, Tereza, and Tomas fled to Switzerland due to the Soviet Union inhabiting Czechoslovakia. Tereza left behind her career as a photographer, became unemployed, and had to sit home alone as Tomas continued his affairs. She then began to believe, when the strong were too weak to hurt the weak, the weak have to be strong enough to leave. (Pg. 75). Then, she returned back to Prague. Tomas was enjoying his liberation for a few days, but he gave up and left for Prague. This evidently meant that the couple gave up their freedom because there was no chance that the couple would be allowed to leave again due to the Communist regime. In ... • 17. What Is The Mood Of The Poem Blackberry-Picking In the poem Blackberry Picking, the author discusses the harshness of life by describing his experience picking blackberries. While the poem is rather dark, he maintains the message that childish hopes still exist despite the continual blockade of reality. In the first stanza, Heaney describes the berry picking as a rather unimportant task. The blackberries represent the hope and excitement that summer is: summer s blood was in it (6). The childish hopefulness is expressed in the conversational tone, created by the syntax found within the rhythm. The author organizes the sentences in a way that varies the stressed and unstressed syllable to keep the experience of berry picking casual and light. The rhyme scheme of AABB keeps a sense of organized structure throughout the poem. The author often includes slant rhyme to eliminate the sing song pattern many poems have: for /hunger (7 8). The use of descriptive diction allows the reader to clearly visualize the experience. The clear imagery of the berry s flesh (5) sweetened like thickened wine ... • 18. Gender Discrimination In Nursing Today, most people perceive nursing as a women profession. Men who enter this field have been looked at as outcasts. Many individuals feel that a man does not belong in a female profession. I believe that statement to be untrue and unfair. The issue of gender discrimination in nursing is the same as any other professions. The only difference is nursing is dominated by women, and men are the minority fighting for equality. My goal in this paper is to help you understand why I m arguing that men should be welcomed in the nursing profession. Genderor sex discriminationinvolves treating an employee or a category of employees differently because of gender. Whenever this discrimination affects the terms or conditions of employment, it is illegal. Gender based different treatment of employees with regard to pay, title, position, hours worked and vacation time is generally considered illegal and wrong. Just 2.7 percent of the working nursing population in the United States are men. To understand why nursing is dominated by women we have to analyze the history. Malenurses may belong, but there s still not many around. According to the U.S. Labor Department statistics, 6.7 percent of registered nurses were male. Gender discrimination in nursing exists because of prejudices male students encounter in the classroom, in the workplace and with patients. Over the years discrimination of males in the nursing has declined but just like racial discrimination it still exists. To understand gender discrimination in nursing we must first understand the past. Nursing was found in the 3rd century in ancient Rome and was dominated by men. Since the 20th century women have dominated the nursing profession. Actually, in the 1897 American Nurse Association was founded, and no men were allowed. The rule eventually changed in 1930, allowing men the right to be a nurse. Are male nurses accepted by female nurses? I feel like if you are in the nursing profession and don t understand that there is a shortage of nurses in the world then it shouldn t matter if they are male or female. Every gender should be accepted. The require for male nurses is on a rise, partly because there is a growing demand for nurses in general. That also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. The Characteristics Of John Wooden s Definition Of Success John Wooden once said, Success is peace of mind attained only through self satisfaction and knowing you ve made the effort, do the best of what you re capable. This quote is relevant to the question of what success is to me. This is relevant to the question of what is the definition of success because John Wooden s definition of success is near perfect. To give you a better understanding, I will use three different traits from the Pyramid of Success. I will explain to you why these are related to success. Finally, I will use examples from the skype that our History in the Movies class had with former basketball player, Bobby Plump. The first trait from the Pyramid of Success that I think creates success is Confidence. I think confidence is a really big deal when it comes to success. If you come into a sports game and you believe that you and your team will come out victorious, than you and your team will play at higher levels. It doesn t matter if the challengers have more talent, it matters who has more heart. When Bobby Plump put up a shot when he played basketball, he didn t this it was going to miss, he thought it was going through the net every single time. In the movie Hoosiers, when Jimmy Chitwood (Bobby Plump), shot the ball, he could be moving, fading away, or the shot could be heavily contested and he would miss sometimes. But after all, he kept shooting because he was confident. Confidence doesn t just pass for sports, it is also a trait you should hold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. 12 Minor Prophets Of The Old Testament One of the 12 minor prophets of the Old Testament, Haggai, played an essential role in the rebuilding of the temple of the Lord. Although we are not given the specific details about when it is written or who wrote the book of Haggai, it is often assumed that Haggai himself wrote it. Scholars also presume that it was written around 520 B.C. due to the specifics of the time period given in the book itself. It is a rather short book, only consisting of two chapters, and exact dates are given as to when the Lord spoke to Haggai regarding the rebuilding of the temple. For example, Haggai opens up by saying that the Lord first spoke to Haggai on the first day of the sixth month of the rule of Darius. The messages from the Lord to Haggai were directed to the governor, Zerubbabel, the high priest, Joshua,a and sometimes to all the people of Judah. These messages usually focus on the apathy of the people to rebuild the temple of the Lord. The people of God during The Book of Haggai are avoiding rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. The first temple was built by Solomon, the son of David. David initially wanted to build the temple, but God gave the task to Solomon. The Babylonians led by Nebuchadnezzar marched into Jerusalem and destroyed this first temple of God. The temple was to be rebuilt, but it was being avoided largely during the time of Haggai. I almost wish I hadn t gone down that rabbit hole and yet and yet it s rather curious, you know, this sort of life! I do wonder what can have happened to me . Lewis Carroll s Alice in Wonderland which takes the reader into the fantasy world of rabbit holes and mad hatters, magic cakes and secret doors, very articulately conveys that food can be used as a temptation or as a ploy tool to trap the protagonist to indulge in mischievous activities. Caroll s Alice not only instantaneously grows in size when she eats certain foods but also shrinks when she eats or drinks certain things as well. Food fantasies play a very crucial role in children s literature be it in Alice in Wonderland or C.S. Lewis 1950 allegorical novel , The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Both these fantastical stories focus on interpersonal conflicts and food fantasies of the child protagonist. Lewis s novel reflects Edmund Penvensie s weakness for sweet foods, which are quickly discerned by the White Witch. Both Caroll and Lewis allude the significance of food in relation to adulthood and childhood, using food as a dichotomic symbol for empowerment and domination and as a medium for didactic teachings.. Durkheim s account of the importance of rituals in modern society Durkheim s theories on ritual are an integral part of his work on religion, outlined in his book The Elementary Forms of Religious Life . Rites are defined by Durkheim as determined modes of action (Durkheim, 1915, pg. 36). They are ceremonies that are active expressions of particular beliefs or aspects of a religion. It is necessary to consider and assess the theories on religion before examining and assessing those on rites and ritual specifically. The sacred is thus projected onto this profane object and despite it merely being a piece of fabric it represents much more to the people. It represents the feelings of patriotism and community and closeness (Cuff et al. 2006). A totem is a profane object or animal that is seen as sacred, and is worshipped by all members of a religious society. Because all the individuals of a religious society follow the same duties and rituals associated with the totem, they are morally bound to one another (Giddens, 1972, pg. 227). He theorised that religion and ritual produced categories of understanding ; the basic categories, which cover the ways in which objects are perceived; for instance all objects can be seen to occupy time and space. These categories are also perceived in the same way by all the members of the society, so religion also influences the very basis by which people think about the world. The concept of moral unity is still observable in religious communities today, especially in smaller cultures. However, larger industrialised societies tend to be more divided and there are more varieties in belief in a given society. Furthermore, the increase in secularisation has meant that the functional aspects of religion, as outlined by Durkheim have not had an effect on those who are not religious. The Images Of The Jewish People Within Kayla Walcott Gwendolyn Guth English Quebec Writers October 29th 2014 The images of the Jewish people within are represented through the tainting of their culture through the use of negative stereotypes, but even more so by the descriptive examples of anti Semitism and religious traditions. One of many mentioned stereotypes, is the perception that all Jews are wealthy one of the times that this is asserted is when it states, If you got it right on your bar mitzvah who knows but the rich uncle might buy you a Parker 51 set. • 44. A Powerful Philosophy Of The Sacramento Technology Industry A Powerful Philosophy He was much shorter than I expected when I met him; standing at only five feet three inches. I had woken up that morning with a feeling of anticipation. Hundreds of questions bounced around in my head and I was finally going to meet the guy whom I hoped had all the answers. I quickly got dressed in my form fitting suit, ate breakfast, and then eagerly started the thirty minute drive to Folsom. That afternoon I had lunch with Mr.Lokesh Sikaria. Mr.Sikaria is one of the most prominent business men in the Sacramento technology industry and I reached out to him because I was extremely interested in pursuing a similar career. Mr.Sikaria, who received a master s in electrical engineering and a minor in business from the University of California Berkeley, initiated his career at a small consulting firm. He quickly moved to a chief operator position at Rapidigm Inc where he controlled millions of dollars in company revenue. A few years later, he started his own IT consulting firm, which was wildly successful, and now operates a venture capitalfirm in Folsom California. There is no doubt in my mind that Mr. Sikaria is very successful personally, but what really makes him stand out is his ability to be successful personally and help the community at the same time. The ability to do this is impressive and should be imitated by everyone in order to have a greater impact on the world. To succeed personally is to do and accomplish things that enhance your own ... • 46. The Use of Bandura s Social Learning Theory in Schools Essay One of the central tenants of Albert Bandura s Social Learning Theory, which is also called Social Cognitive Theory, is that aggression in children is influenced by the reinforcement of family members, the media, and the environment (Bandura, 1975, pp. 206 208). Evans (1989) suggested that the basis for Bandura s theories came from work completed by researchers Miller and Dollard (1941) who suggested that human development is actively influenced by response consequences (Evans, 1989, p. 4), but regardless of the impetus for Bandura s work, he is most known for his work regarding aggressionin children. Therefore, from a human developmental perspective, the self efficacy characteristic can aid students in comprehending the link between current behavior and future consequences (Evans, 1989). Bandura also noted that there were four distinct processes that influence a child s behavior attention, retention, motor reproduction and motivation. During the attention phase, a child will observe behaviors conducted around them and if this attention is thorough enough, the child will absorb the reactions and reasons for the aggressive behavior modeled. Bandura believed that the second stage, retention, is also vitally important because it is this re enactment that causes the behavior to be transferred to the long term memory of the child. Of course, even if the child has memorized the actions, they still need to have the physical attributes necessary to reproduce an action they have seen, but there is little physical dexterity needed to hit or punch something (Isom, 1998). The final phase of this process is the motivation for the behavior. In Bandura s experiment the children observed an adult praised for behaving badly, and this is enough, under Bandura s theory, to cement those actions into a repeatable response by the child at a later stage. Bandura believes this theory also supports the rise in the number of aggressive teens in high crime areas (Isom, 1998). It is this correlation between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Deaf advocates fought the revamping of education and defended ASL. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Facts and Information on Fresh Water Ecosystems 1. Compare and contrast the main types of freshwater ecosystems. Name and describe the major zones or a typical pond or lake. There are two main types of freshwater ecosystems, those that are eutrophic, and oligotrophic. Both share the same salinity, yet oligotrophic lakes contain more oxygen than fish. On the flipside, eutrophic ecosystems have more fish than oxygen, which has more cyanobacteria and require less oxygen. The ecosystems have similar food chains, yet they differ on oxygen resources, thus making species differ from eutrophic and oligotrophic ecosystems. Ponds would be eutrophic, and lakes would be oligotrophic from the fish. Ponds not having a cycle of water flowing differentiates them from each other. 2. This is 100% true as well! Nothing in life is ever truly finished! Leonardo da Vinci was pure genius, however not just from his quotes. He did much, much, more! Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452. He was born in Vinci Italy. His exact birthplace was in a farmhouse in the middle of the beautiful hills of Tuscany outside the village of Anchiano in what is now Italy. Leonardo da Vinci most likely spent most of his time with his uncle, Francesco, instead of his two unmarried parents. At the age of 15, Leonardo da Vinci became the apprentice of the artist Andrea del Verrocchio. Andrea del Verrocchio... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He studied the field of civil engineering, and created many amazing inventions. His invention of the parachute was an international breakthrough! He also invented scissors, which also changed the world, and is nowadays used in almost every classroom and almost every household. Leonardo da Vinci also sketched up the first helicopter. He may not have built it, but he did imagaine it, and his sketch helped modern day scientists and engineers build the helicopter. Not only did Leonardo da Vinci sketch the helicopter, create the parachute, and invent the scissors, but he also built The Revolving Bridge. The Revolving Bridge was a portable bridge, used over a variety of bodies of water. It was mostly used by armies to pass over rivers, streams, and small lakes. Leonardo da Vinci originally designed it for Duke Sforza. I think that this field of science is something I would like to study because I enjoy both building and creating, and I adore art. I definitely think that if I ever become a scientist, this would be the field of science I would enjoy! I spend most of my time drawing and building, much like Leonardo da Vinci did. And it just so happens that I ve always had an eye for science, and it seems to be my best subject. I hope that maybe, just maybe, one day, I will be just as good as artist as Leonardo da Vinci. The Ten Commandments Name: Veronica Vasquez Professor: Theodore Sanders Class: WOH 1012 History of World Civilization to 1500 Date: October 15th, 2015 Code of Hammurabi Vs. The Ten Commandments. Picture a king so ahead of his time and so powerful that he was aware of the importance and sense of urgency behind establishing laws to ensure the growth of civilization and humanity. His name was Hammurabi and he was the king of Babylon. He reigned from 1792 B.C. all the way to 1750 B.C. As an innovative and feared king he created 282 laws for everyone to follow, as gruesome as an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth and as political as ranking people from nobles to slaves and everything in between, he started a new era for Central Mesopotamia then, and all of humanity now. (Edgar et al) As unimaginable as it sounds for someone to come up with a simple 282 laws for a just way of living; at a later time in Egypt there was someone else coming up with a more spiritual way of life. The Ten Commandments, although history says that Moses discovered the stone some time in 1400 B.C., 300 years after, it has been said that these commandments were known about since the beginning of time from a Higher Power. The dome is one of the most important elements of the Ottoman time period and they were known for being one of the main cultures in history to incorporate domes as a main component in their architecture. Ottomans used domes in mosques (the largest domes were reserved for mosques), madrasas, and tГјrbes. Monumental domes began to appear in the 14th century in the Ottoman capital Bursa, in the 15th century in Edirne and after the conquest of Constantinople in Istanbul. This paper will address the domes built under the Ottomans from the late 1300s to the 1600s. However, it is important to note that early Ottoman architecture was heavily influenced by both Seljuks and the Byzantines their immediate predecessors. The dome itself, as built by the Ottomans are almost all hemispherical in shape. Theresa Grupico explains that Domes and tent canopies were associated with the heavens in Ancient Persia and the Hellenistic Roman world. A dome over a square base reflected the geometric symbolism of those shapes. The circle represented perfection, eternity, and the heavens. The square represented the Earth.
