Planning standards are formulated by the Town and Country Planning Department and applied during the planning and design of projects to regulate development. They take the form of codes and regulations that specify requirements for space, site dimensions, height, land use, and other criteria that must be met to comply with the local authority. The main purposes of planning standards are to ensure public benefit, conformity of development, and orderly and harmonious development that protects public health, safety, and the environment.

1.  Formulated by the Town and Country Planning
Department. These standards are applied during the
planning / design stage of a project / preparation of
layout.
 Normally in the form of codes or regulations
pertaining to space requirement, site specification,
height, land use, and other criteria required by the
Local Authority for development of land or property.

4. Main purpose of planning standards:
i. Ensure comforminity of development.
i. As a development control mechanism so that the
physical development of an area will comply to
the needs and requirement of the population of
the area effectively.
iii. Ensure safety, health, comfort and interest of
pulic in terms of the quality of environment is
orderly, harmonious and well protected.
