Pitch
BY AMY- JANE WILSON
Why is my product suitable to Paramount
Pictures?
My product would be suitable for paramount pictures as they have previously
produced some horror movies including paranormal activity and insidious.
These films include a psychotic character and this is what one of my ideas
includes. Paramount pictures is one of the Big Six so this would mean that my
film would be able to be present to a large audience and it would also be able to
be advertised well so therefore the film would be more successful. The fact that
it is also a major conglomerate lots of subsidiaries promote the film through
synergy.
Who are my target audience?
-Both Genders
-Ages 16-15
-Have a range of hobbies including shopping, football and socializing
-They have a range of occupations including student, sales advisers, teaching assistants
-They are people who like to be scared
My target audience is large and this would mean that my film would have the potenital to be
successful and capture the audience.
Conventional
Horror music
Conventions of genre
Sound
-Diegetic and non diegetic sound is used to create fear and tension
-Non diegetic music is added after filming to emphasise evens and to grab the audiences attention, it is also used to make
the film trailer flow together
-There are also some conventional sounds that are used within the trailers including: footsteps, heart beats, evil laughs
and creaky doors.
Mise-en-scene
-Low key lighting to connote fear and a dark aura
-Costume- Ripped clothing, dark clothing, realistic clothing
-Props- Knives, weapons, teddy bears, sticks, guns
Editing
-Long takes/Short takes
-Fast pace editing
Camerawork
-Handheld cameras
-Close ups to show the characters reactions
-High/Low shots- High angle shots are used to make the characters look vulnerable and low angle shots make the
characters look powerful
Conventions of form
Sound
-One piece of music that will play throughout the whole trailer
-Short clips of dialogue are used so it doesn’t give too much of the storyline away
-Enhanced diegetic sounds
Camerawork
-Mixture of shots to show a good amount of the events that are happening and it would also give
the audience a insight to how they would feel
Editing
-Fade to blacks are used a lot to make the trailer flow together and to show different scenes
-Fast paced editing is used so that they can fit a lot of clips in a short time
My Idea for production
I have come up with a idea that would capture my audience and also I feel would be very successful. I
have created a plot around a evil spirit that has bad effects on a new family that have recently moved
into the house where it lives. The story conventionally starts with the family moving into a new home
where they are greeted by a evil spirit living there however this is unknown to the family. The
previous owners of the house wanted to move very quickly and warned the family that the house has
something wrong with it and off things keep happening, however the family pass this off and
continue to move in. As the story progresses the audience will see that the evil spirit takes over the
girls body in the night, this is because he always chooses the youngest of the family to be his
accomplice. After all the family have gone to sleep this is when the evil spirit will take over the young
girls body and transform her into a daemon, he would then tell the girl to do horrific things to her
family and their family home. These things get progressively worse over time and in the end the girl
starts to hurt her family and also attempt to set the family home on fire. None of the family know that
the little girl is the one doing all these things due to her daemon disguise. As things get progressively
worse the mother begins to realise that something is wrong with the family home but the father did
not believe this as he was away a lot of the time. The mother tries to deal with the evil spirit on her
own and this leads to dramatic consequences as the evil spirit kills the mother after she attempted to
kill the evil spirit so it could take control of the house once again.
How my productions use conventions
I have ensured that I have used conventions of genre within my ideas as in my first Idea I have used
family home as the setting and have also used one main character that is going to cause problems for
the family. This is very conventional for the genre as they typically use family homes as the setting as
these are realistic and would mean that the audience can relate to the film. In my second idea I have
used conventions of genre in regards to the setting also as I have set it in a wood, this is seen as very
scary and connotes fear to the audience. Within both of my idea I have considered conventions of
genre in regards to sound, camerawork and mise-en-scene. The sound that I would use would be
conventional as I would diegetic and non diegetic sound to create tension and suspense within the
trailer. I would also use some conventional sounds within my trailer to enhance moments of suspense
and fear within the characters these sounds would be things like loud bangs, babies crying and doors
slamming. The mise en scene that would be used would also be conventional to the genre as in most
horror movies they use realistic costume to make the film seem more realistic for the audience
however in my second idea I will use make up and costume to enhance the owners characteristics
and make him look more fearful to both the audience and the characters. I would ensure that my
product uses conventions of form too as this is very important in making my film trailer effective. I
would do this by editing my trailer effectively so there are fades to blacks and also the clips are the
right length for the events that are happening in them.
How my product will appeal to my
audience?
My product would appeal to the audience in many different aspects. It would mainly appeal to
them through the plot I have used as I have used a exciting and a conventional plot that will grab
my audiences attention throughout. I have also ensured that it would appeal to my audience as
in my research I found that people like horror films that include psychotic/possessed characters
that are also of a younger age and this is what I have included within my plot. I have set my film
in a location that would appeal to my audience also as from my questionnaire I found that family
homes was one of the most popular locations for a horror film to be set. My product would also
appeal to my audience as I have used aspects that are conventional including gore and fire. I
have thought out the type of camerawork and editing I am going to use, these would then
enchance the tension and fear that the audience will feel. Therefore I would be able to appeal to
my audience in this aspect as many have said they like to feel the tension and the suspense. I
plan to make the trailer appealing by using lots of short clips and I would also include the scary
parts of the film however leaving out some details as I wouldn't want to give the whole film
away and make it predictable as this is something that have been viewed as a negative.

  • 2. Why is my product suitable to Paramount Pictures? My product would be suitable for paramount pictures as they have previously produced some horror movies including paranormal activity and insidious. These films include a psychotic character and this is what one of my ideas includes. Paramount pictures is one of the Big Six so this would mean that my film would be able to be present to a large audience and it would also be able to be advertised well so therefore the film would be more successful. The fact that it is also a major conglomerate lots of subsidiaries promote the film through synergy.

Who are my target audience? -Both Genders -Ages 16-15 -Have a range of hobbies including shopping, football and socializing -They have a range of occupations including student, sales advisers, teaching assistants -They are people who like to be scared My target audience is large and this would mean that my film would have the potenital to be successful and capture the audience.
  • 4. Conventional Horror music Conventions of genre Sound -Diegetic and non diegetic sound is used to create fear and tension -Non diegetic music is added after filming to emphasise evens and to grab the audiences attention, it is also used to make the film trailer flow together -There are also some conventional sounds that are used within the trailers including: footsteps, heart beats, evil laughs and creaky doors. Mise-en-scene -Low key lighting to connote fear and a dark aura -Costume- Ripped clothing, dark clothing, realistic clothing -Props- Knives, weapons, teddy bears, sticks, guns Editing -Long takes/Short takes -Fast pace editing Camerawork -Handheld cameras -Close ups to show the characters reactions -High/Low shots- High angle shots are used to make the characters look vulnerable and low angle shots make the characters look powerful
  • 5. Conventions of form Sound -One piece of music that will play throughout the whole trailer -Short clips of dialogue are used so it doesn’t give too much of the storyline away -Enhanced diegetic sounds Camerawork -Mixture of shots to show a good amount of the events that are happening and it would also give the audience a insight to how they would feel Editing -Fade to blacks are used a lot to make the trailer flow together and to show different scenes -Fast paced editing is used so that they can fit a lot of clips in a short time
  • 6. My Idea for production I have come up with a idea that would capture my audience and also I feel would be very successful. I have created a plot around a evil spirit that has bad effects on a new family that have recently moved into the house where it lives. The story conventionally starts with the family moving into a new home where they are greeted by a evil spirit living there however this is unknown to the family. The previous owners of the house wanted to move very quickly and warned the family that the house has something wrong with it and off things keep happening, however the family pass this off and continue to move in. As the story progresses the audience will see that the evil spirit takes over the girls body in the night, this is because he always chooses the youngest of the family to be his accomplice. After all the family have gone to sleep this is when the evil spirit will take over the young girls body and transform her into a daemon, he would then tell the girl to do horrific things to her family and their family home. These things get progressively worse over time and in the end the girl starts to hurt her family and also attempt to set the family home on fire. None of the family know that the little girl is the one doing all these things due to her daemon disguise. As things get progressively worse the mother begins to realise that something is wrong with the family home but the father did not believe this as he was away a lot of the time. The mother tries to deal with the evil spirit on her own and this leads to dramatic consequences as the evil spirit kills the mother after she attempted to kill the evil spirit so it could take control of the house once again.
  • 7. How my productions use conventions I have ensured that I have used conventions of genre within my ideas as in my first Idea I have used family home as the setting and have also used one main character that is going to cause problems for the family. This is very conventional for the genre as they typically use family homes as the setting as these are realistic and would mean that the audience can relate to the film. In my second idea I have used conventions of genre in regards to the setting also as I have set it in a wood, this is seen as very scary and connotes fear to the audience. Within both of my idea I have considered conventions of genre in regards to sound, camerawork and mise-en-scene. The sound that I would use would be conventional as I would diegetic and non diegetic sound to create tension and suspense within the trailer. I would also use some conventional sounds within my trailer to enhance moments of suspense and fear within the characters these sounds would be things like loud bangs, babies crying and doors slamming. The mise en scene that would be used would also be conventional to the genre as in most horror movies they use realistic costume to make the film seem more realistic for the audience however in my second idea I will use make up and costume to enhance the owners characteristics and make him look more fearful to both the audience and the characters. I would ensure that my product uses conventions of form too as this is very important in making my film trailer effective. I would do this by editing my trailer effectively so there are fades to blacks and also the clips are the right length for the events that are happening in them.
  • 8. How my product will appeal to my audience? My product would appeal to the audience in many different aspects. It would mainly appeal to them through the plot I have used as I have used a exciting and a conventional plot that will grab my audiences attention throughout. I have also ensured that it would appeal to my audience as in my research I found that people like horror films that include psychotic/possessed characters that are also of a younger age and this is what I have included within my plot. I have set my film in a location that would appeal to my audience also as from my questionnaire I found that family homes was one of the most popular locations for a horror film to be set. My product would also appeal to my audience as I have used aspects that are conventional including gore and fire. I have thought out the type of camerawork and editing I am going to use, these would then enchance the tension and fear that the audience will feel. Therefore I would be able to appeal to my audience in this aspect as many have said they like to feel the tension and the suspense. I plan to make the trailer appealing by using lots of short clips and I would also include the scary parts of the film however leaving out some details as I wouldn't want to give the whole film away and make it predictable as this is something that have been viewed as a negative.
