5. Reflection:
• What are you making? (Explain what you have been asked and
wanted to do)
• For this project I will be making the different promotional material
needed for the horror film, this will include a DVD cover, three
posters, teaser, sneak peak and full trailer. As well as a magazine
article that will be talking about the film and making a front page as
well. This is all involving print based and video. So having built up my
knowledge from the research sector and other previous experience.
I'm confident on doing all of these.
• There are many different softwares that will be issued for this project
from Photoshop to Premiere pro and if I have enough time to balance
it out then InDesign for the magazine. I think its important to try and
include every possible means and ways of promotion and then see
what end result is.
6. Reflection:
• Why? (What is the purpose of making your
Film)
• My purpose of making this film is to extend
my knowledge on filmmaking and learning the
many different means of promotion. As well
as what is needed for the different ways of
selling a film. I hope that the plot and the film
itself also hold interest to whoever is looking
at the products.
7. Reflection:
• Who is it for? (Audience)
• The audience that this product is aimed at is
mostly the audience age between 14-25. it
will be aimed at mostly males because of the
genre of horror and is aimed at middle class
people. Amongst other things whilst this is my
primary focus. I have to aim towards my
secondary audience. As well as focus on the
results that I got from my survey.
8. Reflection:
• Where will it appear/on what? (How will the audience see it)
• My work can be found on my blogger account and my videos for this
project can be found on my YouTube channel. I will be uploading these all
through via slide share. These are the links required in order to access it

• In terms of the fictional world the film would appear on billboards, outside
cinemas, and buses. Trailers would be featured on TV and the film would
be released at the cinemas. These will be viewed by general audience and
hopefully from seeing the material that’s being developed. It will peak
their interest.
9. Concept
• The basic premises for what I am doing for this project is different
selling products for film. I will be releasing a magazine double page
spread and front cover talking about the film. Sneak peak, teaser and
full trailer. Music that I will make on garage band. I will also be making
a DVD cover for this film
• The film is a psychological horror which focus on a serial killer called
Darren small who is escaping some sort of hell that he has been
trapped in. in this film he has to one truth in order to escape but the
more you learn about the character the more you learn he’s evil.
• This concept is the first thing that I had thought of. Since then it’s
developed into a storyline that is able to fit into gaps. Including many
different flashback and explanations as to who this character is. The
thing that I have been focusing on the most is the psychology of the
character and the though process that the character would be having.
This is a character that regrets what he does because he knows its
evil but he still does these acts anyway. Like a bad habit. That makes
him partly vulnerable, which I think is interesting.
10. Story Development
• I have created a story development for the full
film. This will help me gather a general idea of
what should be included in the trailer and
what should be cut out that doesn’t holds
relevance to the plot.
• Even though I am only doing a trailer for this
film. It will help me gather up enough
information to make my trailer as real and as
well thought out as possible.
11. Story Development
• Title: Lost in communication
• Genre: Horror
• What 3 visual conventions of your genre will you include?
1. The main visual convention that I will be concentrating on the most is camera because it
will be beneficial to me and it looks very unique when pulled the right way. From Dutch
angled shots to through window shots. Even though it is only a trailer and these will be
brief. I think the most successful films are the ones that use techniques that no other films
do.
2. Costume is another visual convention that is key aspect in my film. Gangs will be a focus in
this film and part of the gang’s costume is the black hoodie. So there will be a lot of black
hoodies worn. The brown duffle coat is also a trademark coat which is worn by Darren. For
the masks there's going to a brief shot where you see someone wearing a pig mask and
nun mask. These masks will looks scary which will boost the fear factor of the gangs.
3. Colours will be a visual element that will be constantly changing. Starting off with light day
to day colours and then transitioning into darker colours. Colours with slight grey tint when
the horror begins. The flashbacks that will be appearing because the film is not linear will
be have grey monochrome look to it. It’s just a case of balancing them off well because it
won’t be a short film and it will be a trailer. I don’t want it to look messy if it keeps
switching from grey to a dark light colour.
12. • How will you make the audience scared and hate the main
character of the film?
I think the best solution to this is making the character really normal at the beginning as
the born to be evil archetype doesn’t really feel real enough. By the audience holding some
sort of the relation to this character and then seeing the downward spiral he faces as he
tries to cope with things.
• What is the ending of your film?
Whilst I haven’t given a lot of thought as to what the end of my film will be because I’m
only releasing the trailer for it. The ending will have the antagonist Darren small locked up
for life for the crimes he has committed. His insanity will be driven worse towards the end
of the film and he is left in his cell alone. So he cant hurt anyone else.
• Why is that your ending? What are you hoping to get from the
audience?
The reason I have picked this ending to wrap things up is because its still left at an open
point. The main antagonist isn’t gone for good. He is in prison for life. High security prison
but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for a sequel. He could escape somehow. Killing
off the character could leave the audience safe and that drops the fear factor. Just so long
as the main of the film is completed. That’s the best thing for the film.
• What are the stakes for the characters? What will they get if they
don’t get what they want?
For this film it’s one man V everyone battle. The main danger is Darren and everyone is
talking about taking him down. Being popular in the newspapers. If Darren gets off with a
fair charge he could go back to killing people again. There is also a gang that he is part of
which helps with the killings. So the police have to track them before they kill anyone else.
13. 3 Act Structures: Define each act
Act 1
The first section of the film will start of with Darren waking up at the house where the majority
of the film is set in. He will not remember anything but going to bed when he was at home last.
He will have a ring on his phone. Where he will now be talking to a group of unknown people
that say they can help him. Through this journey Darren must try to remember the last few
things that had happened to him. This is when we see a load of normal good moments in his
life. Then we get to the bad stages of his life. Where he is getting abused and beaten up for how
he is. It’s here where you start to feel sorry and sympathise with the character. It’s here when
Darren starts to remember everything and there's secret he's not letting on because he doesn’t
trust these people. People who we suspect are enemies.
Act 2
Act 2 will start with them trying to get him to confess everything that has happened. If he doesn’t
there could be the chance he will die with various traps set up in a house that he cant escape. If he
doesn’t tell the truth or lies then the trap will go off and kill him. The more he tells the more we learn
about his real intentions. The audience suspecting that the people he was talking to on the other end
were evil. When really it was him. We see various flashback and what he really did. Seeing the gang he
had established and the killings he did. The police come to the house and capture him. Having a
confession and enough evidence as possible.
Act 3
Whilst Darren’s followers are still out there. They were there to help with the killings but would never
kill anyone themselves. Whist the investigation still carries on to find them and the other people he
has killed. Darren is locked up for good.
Whilst the full film won’t be released. I’m going to break down each act of the film. So that is
clearer in mine and everybody else’s heads.
14. Light hearted style sheet
For the more light sections of the trailer that start at the beginning. The
colours will look more in balance with real life. and look very normal. They
will be similar images to the darker ones I’ll show next but will be the contrast
of it. Focusing on lighter colours of green and blue.
15. • As we can see the beginning of this trailer plays off as if
Darren has a normal life. Showing the lighter and more
normal side of things.
• This contrasts the slides I will shows you next. They are a lot
more melancholy and darker than the previous ones. This is
to show that Darren's pure happy go lucky world isn’t what it
he wants it to be.
• This can also be shown through space. In the light hearted
slide there seems to be a lot more people. You get this more
normal good vibe to it but with the next ones I’ll be showing
you. They concentrate on being alone, contemplating on
negative thoughts and sadness.
• Another contrast can even been seen through the sky. It’s a
lot more brighter. Whether it’s the sky or the grass.
Everything has little bit of colour added to it. With the darker
ones shown next they look like they have been desaturated
on purpose to give them a very moody look. You watch the
trailer you’ll see the ever so subtle contrast between these
two things.
19. Style sheet – Colours
Dark purple
I have picked purple as
primary colour for the
posters because it’s a
colour that works well
with illusional posters.
Posters that show off
the characters mind.
With my film being
psychological. I can use
this coulour to
experiment with as a
overlay for the images I
have to present.
Dark green
The reason I have
chosen green as
one of my primary
colours because it
works as a colour
of nature. With the
forests and the
hills being a theme
of the film but I
couldn’t go for
anything to light.
Keeping the pallet
dark.
Dark red
Red works well as
colour for horror.
When researching
previous colours
black and red were
the most common.
With red
connotating to
blood. It works well
on posters and
there's a lot that can
be done with it.
Darker red
I have picked a similar
colour but a different
shade for this one. This
shade is a particular one
that I think also works for
horror. When picking a
colour. You shouldn’t
experiment too much. So
to pick another shade that
is similar also works
because there is a theme
but it can also blend in
with the others colours.
20. Style sheet - colours and images:
reflection
• How have these colours influenced your final piece and
why?
With these colours I have gone for much darker tones because it is a horror. These colours
however have been taken from the influence of my final piece can be found within nature. For
example if you look at the dark green that’s to symbolise the moors in which it’s set in along
with the leaves of the trees in the woods where the main setting is. The dark brown goes
without saying that it is doing a similar thing to represent the wood of the trees. As for the dark
blue and the black. This is used for the theme. This will be two colours which I will mix in when
creating the colour of the whole trailer and the cinematography in premiere pro. These colours
will also be used for the theme for other promotional products. Such as the posters and the
DVD cover. Red comes into a lot too. Red often connotes to horror. So straight away without
making it look silly or too much of a stereotype. I knew I would have to add this to my selection
of theme colours. With the red I knew it was important to go on from various different shades. I
didn’t want there to just be one consistent one. As it doesn’t look very natural and doesn’t offer
a huge variety of what that colour could be used for. Overall I consider the colours that I have
chosen to be perfectly natural and diverse. There isn't anything too light. So it isn’t stepping out
of the bounds of horror.
21. Style sheet – fonts/title
Mom’s
Typewriter
Impact
ROCKWEL
LKunstler Script
WALBULM DISPLAY HEAVY
MINSTRAL
TW CEN MT CONDENSED
This is one font that I had my mind set on, the reason being that the film is about
a psychopath. Whilst it’s set in modern day. The typewriter font can be used
pretty well and often connotes to horror when done properly. This is because its
old and most of the time what ever is considered old. Can be scary.
For my second font I have selected a font called impact for the short reason of
that is exactly what it delivers. It’s bold and for any genre it’s representing. It’s
a good way to show off the title so that it is able to stand out a lot more.
I picked this one for the common look of it looking like a slasher title. A film that
connotes to something sharp and horror like. With the main character being serial
killer. I consider this font to link and make the most sense to the movie.
For a similar reason to the impact font. I like this one in particular because of
it’s heavy look. It also has the posh element of the up above so it would be
interesting to see what it looked like upon the poster.
This font is rather interesting. It has a rather classical look towards it. Something a little posher than the
previous ones. This can be done well for example of Midsomer where the font is in a similar style. It
would be interesting to see what it is like because my film set in the middle class status. So it will be
interesting to see the juxtaposition between the two .
This style is rather minimalistic and very natural. It would fit in well. The only problem is that. It doesn’t
stand out far too much and is rather too plain if anything but it does have some potential.
This title expresses the same bold simplistic style font that works
well with horror logo’s. The only problem is it’s been done before.
Even if the colour is different. It bears too much of a resemblance to
the Halloween logo.
22. Style sheet – Fonts/title:
reflection
• How have these fonts/titles influenced your final piece and
why?
The most influential one was the minstral font, this made me decide upon creating
something totally original but for it to be inspired by something. A logo that has a
sharp rugged tone to it. Something which resembles a knife with that being the
trademark weapon that the killer uses for his victims. I had looked at several style that
have a more classical bold approach to them. I will try to keep the style that I am
creating as classical as possible but leave out the boldness. So that I am able to keep
the sharp element in. It depends on blending. Whilst it won’t be as bold that doesn’t
mean that it won’t be able to still stand out as well when it is when on the posters
and other promotion work. So overall the mistral font has been the most influential
font but I want to try and take other elements from the other fonts that will belong
there.

24. Hardware and Software
Hardware
I shall be doing all my work on my laptop at home. It’s a HP windows and it’s
very fast so it will be able to get the job done. All the softwares that I have
down below I also have installed in my laptop. I also have my camera which I
will be using to do my filming on. I have a canon 600D. This camera is
particularly good at wide end shots and I consider it to be really useful for
the wood shots that I have planned.
Software
In terms of software I shall be using adobe Photoshop to edit most of my
products on there. I’m used to editing on this software and is my favourite
for that very reason. However no matter how much I do use it. I acquire new
skills along the way. Another software I will use will be Premiere pro. I use
this software for video editing that will be used for the trailers and other
video work. This software I’m not completely confident using. I do come up
with a few issues from time to time e but it’s nothing that I won’t be able
overcome in the end
25. Film classification These are the various age certificates that
films have to offer. They range on a whole
different scheme of age ranges.
Categorising what age is suitable for the
viewer to watch the film. This should be
seen on all products.
This is the safest class certificate and is usually
aimed at children ages four and up. The ‘U’ in
the triangle stands for universal. Despite this
being the lowest possible rating for a child
its’s still not a 100% guarantee that the child
wont get scared from it.
PG stands for parental guidance which is the
next step up from universal. It’s still suitable for
children but requires their guardian or someone
older watching it with them just as a precaution.
This is usually aimed at kids 8 or older and is the
parents decision on whether or not they want
their kids to watch the film.
12A is usually regarded as no one who is
younger than 12 should see the film unless
they are with an adult when going to see it
at a cinema. It’s the guardian’s job just like
the PG to decide whether or not the child is
still suitable to go and watch the film
12 is often aimed at children who are 12
and no younger. You will not be able to
buy or go to the cinemas if you are any
younger than this restricted age rating.
The meaning behind this certificate is
that no one younger than 15 should
be seeing this film. It is only
acceptable for children ages 15 or
over but no younger.
No one under 18 is allowed to go to the
cinemas to watch the film or purchase.
If so then it is considered an offence.
There is no 18 rated work that are
suitable for children.
This is a restriction that is not
seen a lot because its not
associated with a lot of films.
This category is legally explicit
and usually contains sex or
strong violence. These films
will only be viewed by adults
and adults only.
26. MPA (Motion picture association) is the film rating
system in the US). These title card often appear the
beginning of the trailer and they will dictate whether
the film is suitable for the rating it is at. The first image
is for any audience with there being no rated relation
and is target to all audiences. The second image is a R
rated. This shows that it ishas signs of violence and
sexual references this is often for an audience that 18
or over but if you are 17 or under then you need your
guardian with you when a required a watch. The third
image is in red to show that its restricted only for
mature or adult viewers and no one under 18 is
allowed to watch even with a guardian. This isn’t often
seen in a lot trailers and when at the cinemas will only
been shown when going into watch a R rated film. If
shown on the intenet then it would ask for an age
verification. All the band are tweaked in terms of
wording when it comes out on a internet release.

The psychiatrist and Darren are one to one.
Opposite each other.
The psychiatrist: So why today? What
difference do you think releasing your
confession would make today?
Darren: I feel bad. I look at the act I have
caused and they haunt me. I want to take
back every single thing that I have done.
The psychiatrist: But you never can.
Darren: No I cant.
There's a deep silence between the two
The psychiatrist: This is why you are here
thought. Whilst you can never change the
past you can always find room for changing
the future. I'm here to help and I’ll do
anything I can
Darren: Can you get me off with a fair
charge?
Shown from this you can see this
is the early stages of the script. I
let it develop further on down
the line. Cutting out various lines
and adding more for it to
develop.
The psychiatrist is looking less sympathetic
and more seriously at the Darren now.
Darren: No. I didn’t think so. Then what is
the actual point of you. The thing is I don’t
regret what I did to those people. They
deserve what they got. And the best part is I
know who you really are. You can drop the
act.
The psychiatrist: I don't know what you
mean?
Darren is now caught smiling in a sinister
way

Questions and answers for the interview page
1. Hello nice to meet you. So I supposes the big question is what on earth is the film about? (Laughs) “Well it
is a psychological horror and focuses on the mind of the character Darren small. The film plays off like just a
normal drama. So even know you will know it’s a horror because that’s what you are going to see. You’ll
start to doubt yourself because of how relaxed it all plays off at the beginning. Soon we see this
transformation of the character and progression of him becoming more evil.”
2. What did you have most fun with when filming the film? “I really loved the scenes in the woods. I know this
feels like a very odd thing to say but from my director’s point of view. It was cool to see what we could do
with each shot that had the trees and the wooden houses that the gangs have. The lighting and the
cinematography that we tried to study into made it even more to feature in. Not that all the other scenes
were bad to film but these were just better in comparison.”
3. How did you get into the mind of the character and how difficult was that? “Well I tried making him a
character who the audience felt sorry for. The most scariest thing you can do with the character is to make
him normal at the beginning and then transition him into something much more insane. As damaging as it
may sound I tried to play the character in a way I’d just act in normal life at the beginning and then when the
darker aspects of the character came in. I tried to focus on a lot of sad and depressing things in my life. This
made me angry and this I could project in the character.”
4. What message are you trying to promote in the film? “The main message that I want to get through to the
audience is that the world can be quite damaging and really cruel to some people no matter what they try.
However I want them to question this character’s motives over and over again but still be able to tell the
difference between becoming evil or surviving like a hero. The main focus of this film is Morales and I want
to develop very clear messages through to the audience on the right and wrong.”
5. Why do you think this film has sold as well as it did? “I think the main reason that the film has sold so well is
because it has such a unique take on the main character. The fact that the main character is the antagonist
say/s something about the film. I think it’s the study of how this one person can become truly evil is
something which will intrigue the audience. Selling it as if the hero at the beginning and then seeing the
evolution of him becoming something much more evil.”

• Another method form that I have applied when doing my
poster is creating a motion poster for the public audience to
view.
• The main difference is on how everybody see’s it. There's
more chance of the other posters being seen because they
are still images and could be accidentally found anywhere. For
this poster, whilst they can often be viewed on the web. They
are often found in public places.
• Motion videos of the posters is an effect that pulls the
audience in and is a great way of selling a film because it not
just a still.
• Also because it’s more than one image. You can use that to
your advantage. It just good to have something moving in a
motion poster but it needs to give meaning to the film.
Whatever it hints or not the motion has to have some sort of
relation.
41. Digital Screen Advertisement
Colours I plan to use:
I have tried to be minimalist with it but still retain that element of it of the audience

Strength: Can get many cool
different camera shots and
transitions between the trees and
the next shot.
Weakness: Public area. Will have
to be quiet so we cant make much
noise
Strength: Only need some shots.
Can be filmed anywhere up
there.
Weakness: It’s quite far distance
for just some good shots of the
hills.
44. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Preventation/Solution Effect on production Person responsible
Work getting
corrupted/lost/deleted
Work can often sadly go missing or get
deleted. So the only solution to do is
explain to your tutor and start again.
Possibly do something else to motivate
yourself back up again.
Missing work can have huge effect on
the production of your work because
it has delayed it. Maybe you already
know what your doing for production
but it still has to be done.
George wetton
Unable to get into college Due to the recent events of the
coronavirus. No one will be going to
college for a while. Just work with the
resources you have at home.
This may be difficult for anyone who
wanted to use the studio at college or
use the equipment there. They’ll just
have to plan to do something else.
George wetton
Can’t transfer data from computers
to email. If wanting to work on
another computer.
This wouldn’t be a problem for me as I
always use my own and wouldn’t use
anyone else’s but if I have USB that I
plug into the computer just in case.
This could put a huge delay on any
work you are doing and is very time
consuming.
George wetton
Not having enough time to get the
work finished.
The best solution is to not panic
because that when you begin to panic.
Just spend a little more time on it then
usually do. Cut certain sections to
avoid doing loads and have word with
your tutor.
If there's a particular deadline for one
unit and you haven’t done it then
there’s the chance that its going to
put a strain on getting other work
completed.
George wetton
Camera runs out of charge Get two batteries so that you can
bring a spare. Charge them both
before you go out.
If you have no battery pack then you
won’t be able to film. This will put a
halt on production.
George wetton
Cast and crew unable to film If the right people haven't showed up
then change plans or get someone
else to be a substitute.
Not having the right cast can put a
huge delay on the production and
other people might not want to do it.
George wetton
Bad weather e.g. rainy, stormy etc Check the weather forecast and make
plan for which day is the most subtle
whether to film outside for.
If the weather is really bad then this
can effect costume and sound when
trying to film.

weather)
45. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Eyes hurt from staring at a screen for too long Take breaks when required don’t be on the
computer for no longer than ana hour and half
restriction and if u have glasses where them.
Back hurting from sitting down for too long If Your back starts to hurt after a while of sitting
down for too long. Then get yup do some exercise
and clear you head at the same time.
Liquids damaging electricals Don’t have any bottled or other contained liquid
near the PC/computer. If you have then keep it a
fair distance and watch out for accidents.
Losing sleep due to overtime Don’t stay up too late. Have targets if you need to
but don’t pressure yourself and move them to the
next day. Tiredness can affect work.
Tripping over multiple thing during the course of
the project. Whether is a bag near the laptop, wet
grass or a root of the tree that’s on the floor.
Look out at everything that is on the floor. If you
have got your bag next to you then you should
put it under the table.
Being aware of the pubic when filming in various
shots
Disregarding the shots that will be filmed at my
house, when out at the woods. Look out where
you going and be cautious of the general public.
46. Production Schedule
Week Tasks
Week 1 For the first week of production I shall be working on
getting my trailers filmed. I have a teaser, sneak peak and
full trailer planned ahead. So I hope to get all three
filmed. The sneak peak will have shots from both. I will be
going to various locations. I will also make start on my
magazine setting up the design for how it will look.
Week 2 Now that I have done all my filming will start of editing on
premiere pro. I will sample the music track that I shall be
making on beep box for the trailer and then get to editing
the teaser because it’s the shortest. I will also have
hopefully finished the design of my double page spread,
typed it up and have started the front cover
Week 3 Hopefully my teaser won’t take that long to edit. I can
then make start on editing my full trailer. I will also have
helpfully made all three posters that will be edited on
Photoshop. Posters I really enjoy making so even though
three might be a lot it wont take that long to edit. By the
end of this week I’ll have my magazine and DVD cover.
Week 4 I’ll start the design of the DVD cover that I am making.
Hopefully as this is my last week, I’ll get it done by then.
My trailers will hopefully all b exported as well. The thing
that needs concentrating the most this week is my
production reflection.
47. Coronavirus effects
This slide is unique as it’s something that will only happen at this point of time
hopefully. So I thought it was a mention. Due to recent events certain things
have been postponed and held back. Because of the coronavirus going out to
film has been made a lot more tricky. As well as this any booking that have had
to be placed or equipment taken out isn’t available at the current time. Due to
working at home. Not only have certain things been postponed but I have had
to start certain things early. Originally all camera and equipment tests were
meant to be taken before this but I have had to leave it for the mean time.
Photos that have needed to be taken have been took at home using my own
camera, as opposed to using the studio that has the other camera, white
backdrops and professional lights. It has also delayed any production work that
has to be done for the mean time because whilst I still have my magazine,
music, DVD cover and posters to design. Filming for the trailer has been
delayed for the mean time because I can’t meet up with my group. For the
moment I’ll just have focus on everything else and get my trailer done later but
it cant be left till last minute. Something I'm definitely going to have to avoid.
48. Audio
Music
• The song that will be played over the trailer will be the song ‘people are strange by
the doors’. I have picked this particular song because it fits in well with the various
shots that I have got planned ahead. It also makes sense because its psychological
film and focuses on the different level insanity. Whilst this song has also been used
for another film ‘The lost boys’ (1987). I do think it’s the best song to play for my
trailer.
• I also talked about creating my own music at the start of the project. The software
will have to be a different software to the garage band because of time
constrictions. I will instead being sampling some simple tracks through beep box.
Just some music that works well with the rhythm of the shots that are feature in
the trailer.
SFX
• There isn’t many SFX that will be added to the post production because it isn’t
really needed for any of the shots that I have planned ahead.
• There is however dialogue that needs to be added during post production. This will
be included for a few blackout shots at the end of the trailer. Also during the set up
scene in the full trailer where Darren get’s the phone call.
49. Storyboards
• My storyboards are here to give myself a visual concept of what I had
already planned. Though it does help brainstorm different ideas to so
it’s fine if It helps you come up with more ideas. The storyboards are
just simple rough drafts that will help me with different movements
and already creates a visual interpretation of what I want for that
shot.
• These will be designed in simple 3x6 boxes that contains a drawing
which I have made portraying an action that is in my trailer. I have
labelled each box in number order so that it doesn’t get confusing.
Along with drawings. Another important part to this is writing up
what the so action is or what is happening.
• This could go as far as to describing what particular shot I want and
why because of the effect that I am trying to pull. Talking about
camera movement and what that shot means for the next. This will
also include any backing track, music SFX that I might be including in
that shot. This will be the first time that I am putting my visuals and
audio work together.
61. Key Influences
This colour wheel shows off the various different colours that are found to compliment
themselves with other colours and hold meaning behind the colour. Meaning is
important because with it we can see what colour is set for which mood. This wheel is
very useful for my film and will be something I’ll be using in the future, through the
characters personalities or what the saturation of the shot is we can pick a colour that
work best for his/her/the mood. This colour wheel is also useful because it also shows
of the various colour palettes that go with what colour and what works with what.
62. Colour and colour schemes
• I would like my trailers and posters to focus on 5 Primary colours.
• Yellow - Happiness, optimism, positivity, intellect, clarify, inspire, amuse, energise, creative,
perceptive, mentality, warmth, cowardly, deceptive, egotism and caution.
• The yellow colour is something that is used throughout the majority of my film. Whether its accidental
like filming on a nice day or on purpose with what the character is wearing. Yellow is there to play
naturally with the light moment of the trailer.
• Green – Harmony, safety, growth, revitalise, balance, health, relaxing, growth, generosity, hope,
prosperity, luck, judgemental, envy, materialism, and inexperience.
• Green is a big colour that’s prominent through out a lot of my promotion material. With the filming
being set in the woods. Naturally green is a colour that pops a lot of the time with the hills and woods.
So thought It needs to be a primary colour.
• Orange – Emotion, youth, optimism, enthusiasm, encouraging, uplifting, stimulating, communicative,
spontaneity, creative, warm, positive, exhibitionism, superficial, dominance and impatient.
• Orange is there for the light times of the trailer. The images are going to be saturated with something
light and not so heavy. So that they are able to contrast each other.
• Black – Protection, power, elegance, sophistication, mysterious, secure, intimidating, seductive,
formality, strength, prestige, authority, depression, sadness, pessimism and dominance.
• The reason I have picked black as one of my colour is because it’s a dark colour. It’s what is used in
almost all horror films. Without it wouldn’t have the melancholic feel that makes it as scary as it is.
• Blue – Security, trust, loyal, responsible, protective, calm, relaxing, supportive, confidence, peace,
honesty, reliable, conservative, passive, depressed and predicable.
• Blue is a colour that fits into the black. Whilst it’s used for the light-hearted shots with the sky. It can
often be mistaken for grey when mixed in with the black for some shots. Those shots are the ones that
look best filmed.
69. Conclusion
I have gathered a lot of information from this PowerPoint ranging from a variety of
different colours and mind maps in preparation for the weeks of filming to come.
Through the planning that I have done in my pre production I have gathered the
structure of the products I’ll be advertising. From billboards to video to a DVD cover.
From looking at layout plans to colour schemes. The pre-production helped me fully
flesh my idea of how my film will look and what will be the best way to promote it. My
pre production also helped me a lot with visualising how my trailer would appear.
Planning out how each different shot will be appear and what music will be played in
the background of each one. Also part of pre production is to run through the health
and safety precautions. Along with any contingency problems that might occur in the
near future, usually I consider this to be the worst part of pre production but this time
it has really helped and opened my mind to stuff that can go wrong and how I can
prevent/substitute that for something else. As well as schedules for the filming. Whilst
you can.t plan everything because plans do change for other reasons. It is good to get
the wheels set in motion and be realistic with your ideas upon how long it will take to
film a specific shot or scene that you need. Overall my pre-production has been my
favourite part of this project so far because it has helped me picture what my film will
look like a lot more and has got me ready for production.
