SURVEY ANALYSIS Karis Hays
QUESTION ONE
This question is
important to my
research because by
looking at what gender
buys magazines more
than the other can help
me generalize a
specific audience for
my magazine, if my
findings were equal it
would have indicated
that I would be making
a magazine for both
genders. But with my
results being more so
male it has lead me to
want to create a female
This question can
also influences
what I can be
included in my
magazine and what
would be preferred
to which ever
gender and what
the colour scheme,
layout etc. would
be like, for example
what the colour
scheme might be
like giving me a
whole image of my
magazine in total.
QUESTION TWO
By asking the age of the partaker
in the survey it gives me a
general idea of the age of the
audiences who buy magazines,
this can also help me to pick out
colour schemes and what genre,
and music artists to include
within my magazine. By
generalising my results to being a
younger audience I then
understand what they will be
wanting from my magazine and
what added extras to include.
The majority of the
audience taking part in
the survey were either
younger than 16 or
between the ages of 17
and 20. the main target
audience of my
magazine will be for a
younger group of people
this contradicts what the
content will be. The
difference between what
you would include in a
magazine for people mid
twenties is completely
different to one aimed at
late teenagers.
QUESTION THREE
The importance of this
question was to get a small
idea of what added extras
could be added into my
magazine to grab the
attention of my audience.
This question could also
link to my previous
question about age,
knowing what certain ages
like is important in what
content I include within my
magazine.
Taking from these results I
can see that exclusives are
the most popular choice of
added extras. Exclusives were
the most popular with 50% of
the participants voting for
exclusives. So I will include
exclusives like exclusive
interviews and chances to win
tickets that haven’t been
released yet.
QUESTION FOUR
The importance of this question
was to get an idea of what
types of genres to base my
magazine around. It also shows
me what musical genres are the
most popular among certain
ages and generations.
According to my results I can
tell that the two most
popular genres are pop and
indie; pop with 29% and
indie with 27%, I think that
taking from these results I
am going to base my
magazine around pop/chart
music seen as though it was
the most popular choice.
QUESTION FIVE
The importance of
this question was
to find out what
kind of personality
is more preferred
throughout artists
so I can link my
personalities with
whoever is
featured on my
magazine. It was
also to get an idea
of who to feature
in any articles and
to mention for
added extras like
tour tickets and
Going from my results more pop/ chart
music is popular within the participants of
my magazine artists like Sam Smith and
Rihanna are very popular within the
participants of my survey.
QUESTION SIX
This question was purely to
help my frequency of
publication. I didn’t want to
release a magazine that was
released weekly if people
weren’t willing to buy it
from me. Knowing how
often people prefer to read
magazines has helped me
plan this. It also gives me an
idea on how many how
many copies I should
release at a time instead of
releasing so many weekly
when they wont be that
popular with my target
audience.
Going from my results the
most popular time for a
magazine being released
was monthly, 33.3% of my
participants said that this
was best for them. By
releasing it monthly it would
save money on production
and could give me the
chance to leave out copies
from two months prior to the
most recent copy.
QUESTION SEVEN
The importance of this
question was that I could
get an idea of what albums
are out there and which
ones are popular within my
participants of m survey. I
can use these results for
album reviews and
recommendations to my
audience as an added extra
and exclusive to my readers.
Going for these there are
varied results giving me a
wide choice of what I could
review for my readers.
QUESTION EIGHT
The importance of this
question is for me to know
whether or not to add
advertisement for things
such as Spotify and Sound
cloud or to push people to
buy the physical copy for
the realness of buying an
actual copy. It can also go
for things such as me
saying my magazine is
sponsored or has a
partnership with a big
company like Spotify which
could be used to boost
reading rates as it will draw
peoples attention to the
Going by my results 58.33%
of m participants would
rather access music virally
than buying the physical
copy. So this can then be
put on my magazine that I
am sponsored by one of the
big viral music brands
adding extra exclusives for
my readers.
QUESTION NINE
The importance of
question nine was to find
out if I should offer an
online copy of my
magazine to my readers.
Going by the majority of
my answers, 75% of the
readers would rather pick
up the original copy than
get the subscriptions. I
might offer the
subscriptions at a low
price to start with and
then up the price if it
becomes more popular.
