New Imperialism In The Late 19th Century
The New Imperialism came about in the late nineteenth century. Western Europe focused on
expansion trying to make their countries greater through invasion. The imperialism of these decades is
called new because of the rush to rule more territories directly rather than just control with them (730).
Nations included in this new imperialism were Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. The Scramble to
Africa began in the 1880s. Many countries in Europe challenged each other for: dominance over the
land in Africa, for the materials produced in Africa such as palm oil, cotton, diamonds, cocoa and
rubber, and for control over the ports along the coasts in Africa. All nations had a conference in Berlin
discussing how to divide their territories in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Japanese went and visited to Europe and the United States to find out more about technological and
industrial developments in these world fairs they were holding. Japans strong desire for success
provoked neighbors like China and Russia. The Russians had built the Trans Siberian Railroad that
sent Russian colonizers who contributed to Anti Japanese groups in Korea. In the battle of Tsushima,
the Japanese destroyed the Russian fleet who traveled halfway around the globe to be defeated in.
Opening an era of Japanese domination in East Asian Politics, the victory was the first by a none
European nation over a European great power in the modern age (736). After the Japanese defeated
the Chinese in 1895, drought and famine made it a struggle for the Chinese. They created an
organization called the Society of the Righteous and Harmonious fist, or boxers who made it their
mission to defeat anyone who they thought caused their misery. Eight colonial powers put down the
boxer up rising and required the Chinese to pay a huge amount in addition to forcing a wider foreign
military occupation

Mary s Grandmother Research Paper
Throughout Luke s Gospel the importance of women is stressed, and of these women, Mary, the
mother of God, is the most important and highly acclaimed. Although Mary is the most highly
acclaimed we often misinterpret our understanding of her. In order to gain a more detailed and
descriptive understanding of the mother of God we must investigate the four Marian Dogmas that are
associated with her. Not only will an investigation of Mary s Divine Motherhood, Perpetual Virginity,
Immaculate Conception, and Assumption serve to further our understanding of her, but it will also
help us realize the indispensable need for Mariology. The first dogma of Mary is her Divine
Motherhood which is basical the principle that she and only she is the mother of

Florida Waters Treasure Hunting Article Summary
Many different machines and technology for gather data has been created over the years, some of
which is more advanced then others. In paragraph seven of the Florida Waters Treasure Hunting article
it tells about, Mel Fisher, a treausure hunter in the early 1960s, used a method called the mailbox
system. Using a big metal tube that was bent 90 degrees, it fit near the propeller. Jets would blow a
strong current of water towards the ocean floor, blowing away sand and revealing anything under it. In
the article Weather Reconnaisance it tells a story based in July 27, 1943, a tropical storm was

An Example Of The Cocktail Party And Inattentional Blindness
We think important objects and events in our world will automatically grab our attention, but they
often don t, particularly when our attention is focused on something else. Cocktail Party Effect
describes the ability to focus your hearing on one specific thing even though noise is all around you. It
is named such because this occurs when you are at a party you can focus on the conversation you are
having with the person close to you and can ignore all the other noise and conversation going on
around you. Your brain helps you selectively focus on the person you are talking too and mutes the
other conversation, music, and general noise around you. Whereas, the failure to notice unexpected
objects or events when attention is focused elsewhere is now known as inattentional blindness. The
interface between attention and consciousness are examples of the Cocktail party and Inattentional
blindness.
Per the website, Psychology.wikia, the cocktail party effect is an example of selective attention and is
the phenomenon of being able to focus one s auditory attention on a stimulus while filtering out a
range of other stimuli, much the same way that a partygoer can focus on a single conversation in a
noisy room. This effect is what allows most people to tune in to a single voice and tune out all others.
It may also describe a similar phenomenon that occurs when one may immediately detect words of
importance originating from unattended stimuli, for instance hearing one s name in

Shopping Mall
CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW This chapter reviews the related literature and conceptual
framework of this study. The literature review cover the shopping behaviour, shopping value,
consumer s decision making styles, perceived shopping mall image, shopping mall brand loyalty and
consumer segmentation. The conceptual framework of this study will be explained in the end of this
chapter. 2.1 Shopping behaviour This section is attempts to provide an explanation on consumer
shopping behaviour by review the previous study on the previous literature. Shopping is one of the

Also according to Zaffar, Ghingold, and Zainurin (2006), two consumers may shop at the same stores
for similar reasons, e.g. convenience, courteous help nice décor, etc., but one consumer my find
shopping a burden, something to be done quickly within a minimum of effort while another may enjoy
shopping, engaging in it as sport by achieving the satisfaction of buying a desired item at a bargain
price. This latter consumer does not mind spending time searching for alternatives. Shopping involves
much more than eye sight and foot. That is what Paco Underhill (1999, p 161) said, shopping is... the
kind of activity I mean involves experiencing that portion of the world that has been deemed for sale,
using our senses sight, touch, smell, taste, hearing as the basis for choosing this or rejecting
that...virtually all unplanned purchases and many planned ones, too come as a result of the shopper
seeing, touching, smelling or tasting something that promise pleasure, if not total fulfillment. It can
seen that individual go shopping for some other reasons, beside to acquire a product, they also shop
for non purchase reasons such as looking for social interaction, sensory stimulation, learning for new
rends and even exercise. That is, consumer can shop for utilitarian reasons related to achieving
specific purchase goals. Alternatively, they can shop for hedonic reasons related to having fun.

Essay on Green Healthy Lawns and Lots of Toxic Chemicals
Spring brings many things. A host of these are very desirable, especially for those of us who have been
cooped up in our homes for the past several months. How many of us have feverishly wished for a
favorable weather forecast so that we can plant flowers, ride bikes, walk dogs, orchestrate lawns, and
listen to chirping birds? Yet, spring also brings us a medley of a different sort a toxic soup of
chemicals. Much of this soup isn t thrust upon us from the outside; disturbingly, we choose to expose
ourselves, our children, our neighbors, and our pets to these harmful chemicals. In 2013, Americans
spent over $700,000,000 on pesticides (cumulatively weighing over sixty five million pounds) for use
on their lawns alone (1). One would think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You see, most of the chemicals that we use on our lawns and gardens are neurotoxins, endocrine
disrupters, immune inhibitors, teratogens, or carcinogens in other words, they interfere with our
brains, our hormone and antibody production, and/or cause birth defects or cancer. Shockingly, many
of them haven t even been tested to determine exactly what impact they do have on us. According to
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), most pesticides have not been adequately tested to
determine their effects on people or the environment (2). How is this possible? Simply put, when it
comes to thousands of chemicals, the U.S. government largely puts the onus on us (the citizens) to
show that they are too dangerous rather than asking companies that manufacture them to show that
they are safe. In the area of pesticide production, chemicals do not need to (and therefore generally
don t) undergo a battery of safety tests. Unfortunately, an increasing body of evidence suggests that
these chemicals would fail such tests.
We should be suspicious of the chemicals recommended for lawns and gardens for three reasons. First,
key elements of the chemical industry have violated public trust in the past. Second, many chemicals
that were once considered safe have been subsequently been banned or restricted in use. And third, as
a general principle we should avoid introducing toxic

The Flynn Effect And Nutrition
Nutrition, the Flynn Effect, and Substance Abuse

The Flynn Effect is the tendency of IQ scores to change over time, and specifically, the apparent
increase in intelligence in the general population evidenced by a steady increase in IQ scores. It was
first noticed by James Flynn (The Flynn Effect). As years went by and IQ tests were restandardized, it
was noticed that when previous tests were taken the outcomes were better on the previous tests than
the tests that were in current circulation. The Flynn Effect has a number of factors that can attribute to
the effect taking place. One factor in particular that has been discussed by many different people is the
factor of overall better nutrition. Overall better nutrition has occurred in many places over the last 100
years or so. This improvement has been linked to head growth, earlier maturation of children,
increased height, and faster growth (Williams). Increased head growth most likely means that human
brains are growing which can subsequently be linked to the increased intelligence that is proven by IQ
scores. The earlier maturation and faster growth of children can also be linked to how a population s
intelligence improves over many years. The Flynn Effect and nutrition are related through the
correlation of increased intelligence and increased overall nutrition. The effects of the Flynn effect on
nutrition and vice versa are extensive. The

Nat Ackerman
Right away in the story we observe that Nat Ackerman is an average person, boring and monotone
even. Usually we see that the protagonist of plays, stories and other works is heroic, smart and
friendly to all...Not really the case in this play. Nat comes off as rude to me. He doesn t see Death as
others would, with extreme fear, respect and perhaps hatred as well. This is evident in expressions
such as: Don t but me. Listen Mister, it s very late. That s too bad for you. You should pay attention .
For me, it is like he belittles him. Something that I also noticed about Nat, is his casual talk with
Death, which in turn surprises the readers. When I was reading this play, it alarmed and disturbed me
quite a bit. We see that he holds a comfortable air when it comes to their conversation, something that
most of us would not have in a situation like this... Other aspect of Nat s personality is that he is quite
ungrateful. After Death had granted him an extra day of life (taking in consideration his feelings and
wishes) Nat still had the nerve to call him a schlep to his friend. He s rudeness and ungrateful attitude
very clear. We observe his lack of humbleness towards Death also ... Show more content on

but considerably nice. For being the antagonist, he sure is a charming fellow... I noticed that many of

crash. He fumbles through pocket... Plus, he is easily persuaded with a game of Gin Rummy which for
me, can easily describe of a simpleton s way of solving things. On another note, I liked very much
how the stage directions didn t interfere with the play at all, rather they improve the visual and
enhance the experience we the readers go through. The stage directions mostly included Death s

Code Of Ethics In Child Care
In the field of psychology researchers have to follow a code of ethics that outlines what is morally
right and what is morally wrong. These codes are put in place to protect participant s rights during the
time of the study. Psychologists follow these codes to prevent any deception from happening and to
allow a flawless study to be conducted. Low income families trying to get the perfect care for their
child needs is very difficult with limited funds that are available to them. During this study to aid
those struggling families, researchers will follow the ethical procedures to ensure the full potential of
the study. Investigators The principal investigator of this study is Dr. Guillermo Montes Director of
Research and Evaluation at the Children s Institute. Dr. Montes has plenty of experience including
authoring research papers and books and his main interest includes at risk populations and children

The, Legend, Lore, And Hearsay Essay
Over the course of a long and arduous journey to find a place to settle, the people found themselves
through the journey. They found many things that they liked, and they settled around the things that
gave them the best opportunities for survival. Consequently, they created a system of belief that got
them through the long wait for land, and once they got it, they praised it. In the course of that long
migration they had come of age as a person. After all, they had conceived a good idea of themselves;
they had dared to image and determine who they were, (Momaday, 77). Here Momaday addresses the
migration of his ancestors. As a result, the people had been modified by their journey, and so finally
they began to consider who they were and what they were meant to become. What remains is
fragmentary: mythology, legend, lore, and hearsay and of course the idea itself, as crucial and
complete as it ever was. That is the miracle, (Momaday, 77). In regards to his culture, Momday
expresses his perception of the stories his father once told him as a child. Indeed, he is now old
enough to understand the myths, and the great legends that have shaped his culture and living
environment. It is a whole journey, intricate with motion and meaning; and it is made with the whole
memory, that experience of the mind which is legendary as well as historical, personal as well as
cultural, (Momaday, 87). The journey made the legends being told more legendary. His people crafted

Salem Witch Trials Of Salem Village
The Salem Witch Trials
The weather was icy cold and it was the middle of winter when four figures were found outside of

accusations, in fact the Salem Witch Trials, the witch trials of the late 1600 s was one of Salem s

trials stronger and more intense. The Salem Witch Trials is an exploration in history because Salem

The group of girls or also known as the accusers consisted of Abigail Williams, Elizabeth Hubbard,
Susannah Sheldon, Mercy Lewis, Margaret Walcott, Mary Warren, Ann Putnam Jr. and Betty Paris.
Many of the girls accused people because they had seen their shape or figure come to them late at
night and tease or torment them. Another way to win the judges over was the girl s habit to throw fits.
Mostly their fits consisted of screaming and kicking like a tantrum from a kid you could say, and they
would throw a fit every time someone they accused had walked by them. The girls had a very strong
influence on the entire town you could say, once one of the girls in the group, Mary Warren, had
disagreed with accusing someone and the next day she was accused of witchcraft.
The second sick girl out of the group was Ann Putnam; she threw many fits and cried for help along
with many strange noises. While talking to Margaret about Isaac and Isaac had said that he would wed

measures, income of the people, the depth of poverty, and poverty relief. The Current Population
Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplements (CPS ASEC) directed by the U.S. Census Bureau

Hc Hospital Corporation Of America
Overview One of the largest U.S. hospital management companies is Hospital Corporation of America
(HCA). The Hospital Corporation of America was founded in 1968. It s the nation s first hospital
companies and now the nation s leading provider of healthcare services with about 165 hospitals, 115
freestanding surgery centers, and employs around 204,000 people ( Hospital , n.d). Besides offering
traditional services, HCA has been a leader in the ever growing for profit medical services and
hospital management industry which cause them to achieve a strong international presence. HCA is
ahead on its considerable debt payments, incurred when the company went private, but still faces
challenges. It is difficult for non HCA physicians and physician office staff using non HCA devices
(e.g. personal computers, etc.) to remotely access their patients data on the existing HCA clinical
applications. Because of this difficulty users (non HCA physicians) are likely to send their business to
an HCA competitor if that competitor provides easier access to patient information than HCA
(Encyclopedia, 1982). HCA mission is to puts patients first and find ways to constantly improve the
care we provide. By introducing a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), HCA will be able to meet their
mission of constantly improving care we give to our patients and empower our employees (by
centralizing user access) ( Hospital , n.d). Most importantly HCA will be able to stand above our

An Indian Woman s Experience With Imperialism
The basis of imperialism is established by depriving nations of their true identity, self confidence, and
independence. Dominance is best put as power and influence over others. This idea of dominance is
bewildering. Who would have thought that holding more power than another individual would exist in
this world when we were all created as equals from the start? Being seen as more powerful because
one s skin color is lighter than another or because one has more wealth is preposterous. Imperialism
involves a far more powerful country taking over a weaker, less powerful country while exploiting the
people as well as the resources. Author, Kamala Markandaya thoroughly captures the effects of
imperialism along with dominance within the world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen when Rukmani s son Arjun states It is not enough. I am tired of hunger and I am tired

This shows how much power the British in India actually had since the Indians had no other choice
but to work at the tannery unless they wanted to starve. Even though the villagers may have not
wanted to work under British rule, they had no other choice. The tannery had such a major impact on
the villagers lives. While the tannery can be seen as a good way for many individuals in the village to
get jobs, this is one of the only benefits the tannery provided. While jobs were created, the workers
still received a low pay and had to work under harsh conditions. The main purpose of the tannery was
to make leather products and sell them. This had nothing to do with global progress and in fact,
everything to do with gaining power and sovereignty. The British used these Indian peasants to
become even more dominant. Similarly, this idea of having no choice can be seen in history when
Indians were either sent away to work abroad in factories or sent to fight in the British military in
order to receive a higher pay. The tannery in Nectar in a Sieve connotes a symbol of dominance, for
example, Great Britain. Britain was far more dominant than India in every way possible. Britain had

Essay on Who Owns The Elgin Marbles Precis
Who Owns the Elgin Marbles? The Précis
Who Owns the Elgin Marbles? this question continues to linger in some minds today, and just so
happens to be reviewed in the respectfully titled article written by John Henry Merryman in 1986. In
this article, Merryman, in the most unbiased way possible, assesses both Britain s and Greece s side of
the argument pertaining to the ownership of the Elgin Marbles and whether they should be returned to
Greece after being removed from the Parthenon by Lord Elgin in the early 19th century. Within the
article, the main points discussed regard the morality and legality of the removal of the marbles.
Merryman goes on to discuss three more main concerns dealing with the marbles and where they
belong: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Britain wins the legality argument with no question. Morality of the removal is the point most
frequently visited in the ownership argument. Did Elgin remove the marbles morally? Did he take
them with good intentions? Was it his place to take them? These are all arguments that grant Greece
the sympathy card, but unfortunately for the Greeks, legality overrules emotion in the setting of a
courtroom. However, the Greeks are adamant about making the morality of this case known. Melina
Mercouri spearheaded the emotional argument, stating that the marbles were made by the Greek, for
the Greek and therefore, belong to the Greek. Byron, a poet of the time, was unfair and depicted Lord
Elgin as an ...exploitative, unfeeling despoiler of a helpless Greece. These two bring with them a large
fan base and powerful case of emotion, but ultimately, the morality question cannot be fully answered;
this point, when all said and done, is based on opinion and cannot be used in a court of law.
Continuing with morality, people want to know if it is morally right to keep the marbles in Britain.
This is where preservation, integrity and distribution come into play. For obvious reasons,
preservation of the marbles takes priority to both the Greek and the British. Integrity and distribution
rely on the preservation of the marbles, therefore everyone

Dry Tortugas National Park Research Paper
I went to Dry Tortugas National Park this summer. It s the farthest Florida Key and is at least a 70 mile

park unique is that 99% of it is under water and since the water is so shallow there are many
shipwrecks. I love fish and all but seaweed, on the other hand, is one of my biggest fears.
The next day, I woke up and went to the place that the ferry would pick me up at. The park provided

Types Of The Human Host
All bacteria require certain amounts of transition metals to sustain life. These metals are necessary to
carry out important metabolic processes in the cell. Among other things, transition metals can act as
cofactors and they can be incorporated into metalloenzymes, transcription factors and storage proteins
(10). A. baumannii requires efficient mechanisms to acquire these transition metals, especially when
confined in a human host. The human host carries an abundant amount of metals that can be harnessed
by invading pathogens. To hinder a bacterium s exploitation of these metals, the human host employs
a variety of techniques collectively termed nutritional immunity (10). For instance, calprotectin (CP)
in the host chelates intracellular stores of manganese (Mn) and zinc (Zn) to inhibit bacterial growth
[5]. All pathogens require essential metals such as iron to sustain life. Iron is a significant component
in oxidative phosphorylation, contributing to ATP production (21). The human host also sequesters
iron via various mechanisms in an attempt to further inhibit bacterial growth. These iron limitation
strategies include storing iron intracellularly by complexing it to ferritin, serum transferrin and
lactoferrin in mucosal surfaces (10). In the blood, iron is also complexed to heme (10). Even when a
red blood cell is lysed, hemoglobin is quickly bound by haptoglabin and free heme is bound by
hemeopexin (Hpx), further limiting A. baumannii s access to iron (10).

Carmen Opera Sparknotes
The original Carmen opera was set in Spain and was about the defeat of a soldier who was seduced by
the intensity of the gypsy known as Carmen. After he deserts his long time love and quits his military
duties, he still loses Carmen s love, as she fell in love with another man. The soldier then stabs and
kills her in a jealous rage. Ramaka was able to adapt this renowned play and transform it into one that
politically targets and addresses post colonial issues in Senegal such as: government corruption, the
use of public resources for gain, and loss of freedom. He essentially uses Karmen as a flow to portray
that the government in Senegal has taken public resources for person gain. It principally follows the
same plot, but the location and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By making Karmen such a strong character, Ramaka transforms her into something larger than life
almost mythical, like Ramatou from Hyenas. The main difference about Karmen compared to other
strong female characters from the films that we have watched, is her sexuality. Her mother is a strong
female character, as is apparent from the immense amount of respect that people have from her; such
as when the mother tells off the police and everyone stands by her side and work to get kick out the
cops. The other women seem to see her as some type of idol or hero. I am assuming this is because
Karmen does everything we only wish we could do (as was mentioned by one of the translators in
class). Women look up to her; especially due to the face that pride, dignity, and beauty are all traits
that are greatly admired in Senegal. Interestingly, Karmen is in no ways unaware of this bold quality
of hers, but she is also not arrogant about it. This became apparent when she said I m no more women
then the others they just chose not to make

Hair Loss And Hair Thinning
Hair loss and hair thinning can be a major issue for both men and women. Our hair serves as our
crown every day, representing our style and personality. In women, hair care is very important since
the old days. Maintaining good hair is now a growing trend in older women to avert negative image of
aging.
Hair is a beautiful part of human biology. Did you know that the human scalp has at least 100,000 hair
follicles? The hair grows in an even rate by about half an inch per month or six inches each year. The
hair grows from the root or bottom of the follicle, while the blood vessels nourish the root. Oil glands
provide the necessary chemicals to keep the hair shiny and soft. Every food or medication you have
taken recently may be reflected on your hair, the reason why chemical analysis of the human hair is
used as a diagnostic tool.
Hair loss does not automatically indicate a health problem. We lose about 50 to 100 hairs a day and
that is perfectly normal. The indication of abnormal hair loss is when your hair falls out in clumps,
visual signs of thinning, and exposure of large parts of your scalp. Some women can experience hair
loss during menopause while men suffer from baldness due to genetics. There are other factors that
can cause hair loss, such as diet, stress, and lifestyle habits.
1. Androgenetic alopecia is the most common type of hair loss caused by genetics. The condition can
lead to baldness and hereditary thinning. About 80 million people in the United States, both men and
women, suffer from this type of hair loss.
2. Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes and lupus, may contribute to hair loss. Alopecia areata
or other autoimmune disorders cause the immune cells to attack your own hair, leading to hair
thinning and hair loss. Diabetes slows down the process of hair growth and having the disease can
make you vulnerable to alopecia areata. Thyroid disorders like hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism
can also cause hair to fall out.
3. Insufficient nutrition can disrupt the hair growth cycle. Certain deficiencies affect the growth of hair
cells, which slows down the cycle and results in unhealthy hair texture. According to a hair and scalp
specialist Dr. Lisa Caddy, eating a healthy and

Lord Of The Flies Cruelty Essay
Throughout many parts of the United States, there is a time of the year known as fire season. Because
of a lack of water during this time, dead plant matter littered across the forest floor start to shrivel up,
until they re practically begging to be lit on fire. During this season, a single ember can ignite a
wildfire capable of searing through hundreds of acres of forest. Just like this powerful, heat ridden
ember, a single act of cruelty can ignite even worse, more pitiless acts. In Lord of the Flies, William
Golding demonstrates how cruelty gives power to perpetrators and victimizes the weak, He shows that
cruelty lies in the heart of every person and child and that it is most prevalent in a society that lacks a

as Piggy, so that a storm of laughter arose and even the tiniest child joined in (Golding 14). As shown
by this quote, even the youngest boys think they are better than Piggy because they aren t chubby like
him. He is much heavier than the other boys, which is one of the factors that sets him apart. He is
never even given a chance to introduce himself; he is just given a nickname that exploits his weight.
After this, Piggy never even tries to properly introduce himself. He knows that whatever name he
gives will be rejected by the boys who view themselves as superior to him. Those who are isolated are
also commonly made victims of. Once his tribe abandons him, Ralph is warned by Samneric about
Roger and Jack. Eric says They hate you, Ralph. They re going to do you. They re going to hunt you

He has no tribe to protect him, aside from a few littluns. Piggy and Simon are both dead, and
Samneric now are joined with Jack s tribe. Because of this, Jack can more easily target and kill Ralph.
All forests accumulate dead and dried up bits of sticks and leaves that can easily catch fire. These
conditions make wildfires inevitable. Cruelty is just as inevitable, and perhaps just as natural.

Holden Caulfield Red Hunting Hat Theme
he theme of perpetuating childhood innocence is very important to Holden Caulfield and the book.
The significance of this theme is so great, it is manifested into Holden s red hunting hat. The reason
why the red hunting hat is linked to the book so much is because of its unusuality. Holden got the hat
from a store in New York for a dollar, but he never goes hunting or anything of the sort. Its purpose is
to remind him of innocence; Allie and Phoebe s red hair or even as a blankie. In childhood, the blankie
is used as a comfort thing it is something warm, familiar, and can protect against monsters. Holden s
reluctance to become an adult and his adversities force him into using the hunting hat as a way to
cope. Holden is the victim of the world, but he doesn t do much to mitigate the damage. School is an
example of his hardships since he cannot comply with the phoniness of the school. Despite his own
facade, Holden desperately wishes to fit into the crowd. Since Holden does not fit in and does not pass
his classes he must leave Pencey Prep. Holden visited the only teacher he liked, Mr. Spencer, and
recalls that Mr. Spencer is the kind of person who could get a big bang out of buying a blanket (23).

How Camping Can Be A Responsible Camper While You Enjoy...
Camping is a fun, low cost way to enjoy the summer with family and friends. Here are a few tips that
will help you be a responsible camper while you enjoy the wild. 1. For bug repellent try citronella
candles and Avon Skin So Soft instead of toxic chemical insect repellents. 2. Wear long sleeves and
long pants at dawn and dusk when insects are most active. 3. Stay on trails to protect habitat and avoid
snake encounters. Snakes sense vibrations, so walking with a buddy or a group is not only wise, it will
announce your presence to snakes who just want to avoid encountering YOU! 4. Invest in a good
sleeping pad, or at the least, put an exercise mat under your sleeping bag. 5. Block ice lasts longer than
bagged ice. Make your own at home by filling milk jugs or water bottles. The less you open the
cooler, the longer the ice will last. 6. Never hang lanterns on trees because the heat can cause serious
harm. 7. Pack a small plastic bucket for dish washing and never use the bathhouse sink for this task. 8.
Hungry critters can be very clever and destructive. Keep food locked in vehicles or tied up in trees. 9.
Freeze chili, soups and stews in zip lock bags, then heat them after they thaw. The frozen bags help
keep ice from melting in the cooler. Rice and pasta can also be cooked ahead of time and reheated on a
camp stove. 10. Pita pockets keep their shape better than loaf bread. 11. Disposable water bottles make
great dispensers for salad dressings and sauces. 12.

Persuasive Essay On The San Diego Zoo
If your child s birthday is quickly approaching, you might be wondering how to celebrate. A party at
home, whether just as a family or with the kid s friends, can be fun, but sometimes it is fun to do
something beyond just cake and ice cream at home. If you are looking for something other than a
party at home or even just pizza at your kid s favorite pizza parlor, consider these three birthday party
options in San Diego.
San Diego Zoo
For kids who enjoy animals, the San Diego Zoo is a fun birthday celebration option. Their Australian
Outback birthday bash includes admission to the zoo, lunch, and birthday cake. The kids will also get
the opportunity to interact with some of the zoo animals and be entertained by some of the zoo s staff
members. Unfortunately for older children, the Australian Outback Birthday Bash was only created for
children up to 10 years old.
It does not have to be your child s birthday to go to the zoo, though. The San Diego Zoo was ranked
by Trip Advisor as the #1 Zoo in the World in 2015, and it consistently ranks as one of the Top Ten
zoos in the world. Whether you are bringing along a large group of kids for your child s birthday
celebration or you are simply going as a family, you can expect to see some of your favorite animals,
including giant pandas, a Komodo dragon, and flamingos. You can even see unique animals, such as
the okapi, which looks a bit like a mix of a zebra and a giraffe.

Glycemic Index
The glycemic index is a good measure of how carbohydrate containing food affects a person s blood
glucose levels. In was originally introduced in 1981. The general rule for Glycemic index is that low
glycemic index food was digested and absorbed slowly and high glycemic index food are rapidly
digested and absorbed. These two factors result in different glycemic responses from the body (Sun, O
Reilly, Li, and Wong, 2013, p. 1001). It is because of these reactions that many people have become
interested in seeing how the different glycemic index of food will help athletes during exercise. One of
the main ways people use the glycemic index for exercise is in their pre exercise food (Sun, O Reilly,
Li, and Wong, 2013, p. 1001). Using the glycemic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When doing this, they must result in their endurance to get them through the exercise. While, yes,
there are sports that do not necessary need a lot of endurance for, but in training most sports last long
enough that you do need some endurance. It is still beneficial to allow you to have some form of
energy to be able to use while exercising. If someone wants to be a good athlete their ability to sustain
prolonged submaximal exercise is primarily determined by fuel availability (Wong, Siu, Lok, Chen,
Morris, Lam, 2008, p. 23). The need to allow your body to be able to perform at its greatest level all

Software Developments Projects Bureaucratic Government...
Abstract This paper looks at software developments projects in bureaucratic government environment.

project has faced, the size of teams, the project management, and the financials of the project. Lastly,
it will take a look at what factors lead to the success of the project. Introduction April 1995, a truck

Year after year the project deadline kept on getting pushed back until in April 2005 and one hundred
and seventy million dollars later, the project was cancelled. Attempt 2 With the VCF project cancelled
the FBI was left to rely on the old case file management system and the tedious manual procedures. In
need for a new system, a new project plan was written up to replace what the failed VCF project was
supposed to bring. The new project was called the Sentinel. The aim for Sentinel was the same as
VCF, to bring a web based case file management system. Sentinel, just like VCF, would begin to be
developed using waterfall approach. Lockheed Martin was the contractor hired to develop Sentinel

the previous failure, the project was to be delivered in two phases of twelve months. The first phase
was to give user a new simple web interface which allows them to interact with the old complicated

The Word Centroid Means
The word centroid means like a center . It is like a center because the centroid of an object is the
center of mass or the balance point. A centroid is also one of the points of concurrency of a triangle. In
addition, a centroid is like a circumcenter and is located on the inside of the triangle where the
perpendicular bisectors of a triangle intersect. Furthermore, the centroid of a triangle is made up of the
intersection of three medians and the division of a centroid and a median makes a ratio of 2:1. In other
words, the centroid of a triangle will be 2/3 of the way along any median that had been given. The
median also creates six congruent triangles out of the original triangle. A median of a triangle is a line

The Bite Of The Mango
Compare and Contrast Essay
The Bite of the Mango speaks about the war in Sierra Leone in the 1990s and is through the eyes of
Mariatu Kamara, a female and amputee, while A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier is
written by Ishmael Beah, a boy soldier that lost everything. They both were casualties to one of the
most brutal civil wars; however, their experiences were different due to gender.
Kamara originated from Sierra Leone and lived in small villages until the age of 12. She heard talk of
rebels coming to her villages and she and her family prepared for it every time until the day her
grandmothers superstitions came true. Whenever you dream of palm oil , my grandmother had told me
when I was seven, blood will spill by the end of the day (Kamara 25). Her first night in Manarma she

nowhere to go, she was forced to watch villagers burned alive inside a house. After the rebels let her
go, she travelled around until she found help from a man who pointed her in the direction of women
who would help her to a clinic in Port Loko. Upon reaching the village, she was treated as if she was a
threat, and after clearing up the misunderstanding, was told why. The rebels had been sending young
girls under the guise of needing help, into villages, and once their guards were done, the rebels would

Drosophila Melanogaster
Drosophila melanogaster Sex linkage and inheritance of genes through cross breeding
Abstract
This experiment looks at the relationship between genes, generations of a population and if genes are
carried from one generation to another. By studying Drosophila melanogaster, starting with a parent
group we crossed a variety of flies and observe the characteristics of the F1 generation. We then
concluded that sex linked genes and autosomal genes could indeed be traced through from the parent
generation to the F1 generation.
Introduction
Sex linkage and inherited genes allow us to predict and understand how and why certain animals and
plants inherit features from their parents while some don t. Sex linkage is the condition in which a ...

Care was taken to not let the immobilised Drosophila drown in the white media until they were flying
again.
The vial was then labeled accordingly with the type of cross (Male Vg, Female W) and the date. The
date is important as the Drosophila complete a life cycle within approximately 2 weeks from the
mating day. This vial became known as the parent generation or (P).
The vial was then kept in a moderate temperature out of the sun and by the end of the first week the
parent generation had laid eggs, hatched and the next generation were between the larva stage and the
pupa stage. At this point, the parent generations was no longer required and were decanted out into
ethyl alcohol, killed and disposed of. They did not need to be scored (inspected) as we already knew
what they were.
We then kept the vial with the juvenile Drosophila for another 2 weeks in the same conditions as
above and found that the F1 generation had hatched and laid eggs of their own. We then decanted the
F1 generation into alcohol to kill them and kept them aside to score. The vial containing the new
generation F2 of Drosophila was then kept for use in a further experiment.
The F1 generation that we had just decanted was then moved to a dissecting microscope for scoring,
this generation included 20 Drosophila flies that we could then inspect for different traits using the
microscope (traits being the sex of

basic structure of protein is a chain of amino acids. When two amino acids join together a dipeptide is
formed but when more than two amino acids are joined together a polypeptide is formed. Proteins are
made up of one or more polypeptides. Proteins are large molecules made up of the elements hydrogen,
oxygen, nitrogen and carbon. Types of proteins include, structural proteins, contractile proteins,
hormones, enzymes, antibodies and transport proteins. Some functions of proteins are movement in
muscles, tendons and ligaments. Enzymes make biological reactions possible and hormones regulate
metabolism. The protein shape determines its function.Proteins ... Show more content on

They include keratin found in hair and nails, and collagen found in connective tissue. Collagen under
a microscope look like long fibres that are woven together to create extra strength, it is a fibrous
protein. Collagen is made up of three polypeptide chains wound around each other. Hydrogen bonds
forms between the chains and this gives the structure strength. The collagen account for around a
quarter of all proteins in the body. The function of collagen is to give mechanical strength. In the walls
of arteries, a layer of collagen prevents blood that is being pumped from the heart at high pressure
from bursting the walls. Tendons connect skeletal muscles to the bones. Tendons are mostly collagen
and form a strong connection that allows muscles to pull bones for movement. Collagen is also
responsible for the elasticity of the skin, which is why the skin becomes wrinkled when it lacks
collagen . It also makes the skin waterproof. The functions of collagen in the connective tissue include
nutrient transport and inflammation. Hormones are also a type of proteins and functions as chemical
signaling molecules . These proteins are secreted by endocrine cells that act to control or regulate
specific physiological processes which include growth development, metabolism, and reproduction.
Insulin is a protein hormone secreted by the beta cells of the pancreas and helps to regulate blood
glucose levels. In response to insulin, muscle cells, red blood cells and fat cells take glucose in from
the blood which ultimately lowers high blood glucose levels back to the normal

Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine Has Come A Long Way Over The
Therapeutic nuclear medicine has come a long way over the last decade. More than 20 million
Americans now benefit each year from nuclear medicine procedures used to diagnose and treat a wide
variety of diseases (SNMMI and Safe/Beneficial Medical Uses of Radiation, 2017).
This type of therapy is often used as a means to treat hyperthyroidism, thyroid cancer, bone metastases
from prostate and breast tumors, as well as other types of cancer and diseases. It can be used alone or
in combination with other therapeutic means of medicine, such as surgery or chemotherapy. Radiation
therapy is used in the treatment of approximately 40% to 60% of patients who are diagnosed with
cancer (Errors in Radiation Therapy, 2009). In many cases, the ... Show more content on

This treatment may be very aggressive but, when it comes to cancer, being thorough is of utmost
importance.
Therapeutic nuclear medicine is used in many different ways to help and treat patients when they are
fighting cancer or other diseases. Doctors will take the steps to do whatever they can to make sure that
the patient will survive or at least achieve improvement in their health to some degree. When a patient
is undergoing surgery to remove the cancer cells, the doctors will often have them go through
radiation beforehand to shrink the cancer or tumor down to a size that is easier to remove and to
ensure they are not removing more than necessary. Often during surgery, the surgeons will again treat
the patient with radiation while they are open so that the radiation is hitting the direct tumor or cancer
cells being targeted. Another benefit is that it provides the radiation treatment without having to direct
it through the skin again. This reduces the amount of radiation that the patient is getting to a certain
degree. Once the surgery is over, the patient will often have to continue with more treatments to make
sure that, if anything was missed, it will be attacked by the radiation and be prevented from spreading.
Eliminating the cancerous cells can often take more than one type of medical therapy, and it can often
take multiple treatments (Radiation

Criticizing Lucretius s Argument On Death
Criticizing Lucretius s argument on death, which he claims is a distraction to our desires and therefore
it is a bad thing for us and that an immortal life will make sure we fulfill our desires. Bernard Williams
approached Lucretius s claim with his counterargument in which he opposes Lucretius theory of death
by skeptically claiming that death is not always a bad thing because it can also end bad things such as
suffering, as a matter of fact he opposes immortality in that it should not be your option to fulfill all
your desires because after those desires are fulfilled it will lead one s life to boredom and one s life
will lose its meaning. He offered two types of desires, conditional desires which are desires one
wishes to complete during their life and these desires are something they wish to accomplish but are
not the reason for prolonging their lives and categorical desires which are unconditional. Categorical
desires are desires that one looks at and say I want live longer so that I came achieve this desire.
Williams claims that it is the categorical desires that make one wish for an eternal life, but encourages
that it should not be one s necessity to wanting to live forever because after these desires fulfilled
repetitively they cause one to question their existence or meaning of life. To make sense of his
argument, he offered a fictional example of a woman named EM who was given an elixir of life a
portion that will make one s life immortal, EM used this elixir to

The Importance Of Smartphones In Education
Ethics in and through Technology Student Reflection Survey Smartphones or mobile technologies are
becoming more visible in our school systems. Allowing student access to technology could grow and
prepare them for the college arena. With the growing issues of utilizing technology more main stream
in education, school districts should ensure for student safety and implementation of technology.
Tablets are replacing our textbooks, and we can research just about anything that we want to on our
smartphones (Cox (n.d.) para.1). Due to the ethical concern, majority of schools have adapted the use
of I pads in the classroom over the use of personal smartphones. Teachers implemented district issued
technology lessens the safety concerns of use in the classroom. Sites intended for implement have
already received approval for use by the district, and then closely monitored by the instructor.
However, due to the student teacher ratio, teachers still may have a blind eye to what students are
doing on these devices. It is up to that teacher to set regulations for using a computer before admission
of use can began. There is a solution to this disadvantage with the usage of technology. We used the
term My Brother s keeper , we hold each other accountable for our actions with the use of technology.
Seider (2010) writes, Boston Prep s Principle calls this the Student Responsibility section (p. 46).

Tombstone Or Other Funerary Memorial

Reading Question #2: Epitaphs 1. What is the function of a funerary memorial (i.e. a tombstone) in
societies generally? How can historians use them as evidence? What elements of the population will
have a tombstone or other funerary memorial? The function of a funerary memorial is generally to
honor the person who has passed. For the ones that the deceased has left behind, it can serve as a
symbol of remembrance. Tombstones hold evidence about who the person was, what was important to
them as well as what was important about them. Also, they typically have information like dates of
birth and death as well as their relatives. Based off of the text, most of the women that were mentioned
seemed to have high social status or wealth such as Aspasia who had a monument made up for her
noble disposition . 2. Based on the wording of the document, where were these memorial placed?

This says to me that these memorials were most likely placed in an area that may be viewed by family
members, friends, and the general public. Not only as a symbol of remembrance but as an example to
others as mentioned in the above quote. Also, based on the text, specifically the epitaph of A Midwife

Symbolism In My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke
In the poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, the meaning of the piece varies on the readers`
perspective. Some think that this is one of happy memories between a son and father. Others think that
the waltz covers up the truth of child cruelty. In my opinion, the symbolism and the imagery in My
Papas Waltz gave me the automatic thought of the abusive relationship between the father and son.
But after investigating the poem I could begin to see the positive side.
After reading the first line of Roethke s piece, My Papas Waltz, I automatically assumed this poem
had negative meaning. The first couple lines state, The whiskey on your breath
Could make a small boy dizzy (Lines 1 2). Meaning the father has been drinking, and not just a little.
He was so drunk that even the smell of his breath could make his son, feel a bit light headed. Alcohol
makes people do crazy things so this could possibly give the father the idea and the ability to harm the
child. Because in most cases it is not a great situation when a drunken adult presents himself to a
child. This poem could be comprehended as a description of a young boy s experience of abuse from
his father. But I hang on like death seems to show a child s frightful feeling from having to face a
drunken father. The image in my head here is that of the father and his child kitchen around the
kitchen with the boy having to hold on like death because it s a scary situation for the young boy. To
emphasize the helplessness of the

  • 2. New Imperialism In The Late 19th Century The New Imperialism came about in the late nineteenth century. Western Europe focused on expansion trying to make their countries greater through invasion. The imperialism of these decades is called new because of the rush to rule more territories directly rather than just control with them (730). Nations included in this new imperialism were Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. The Scramble to Africa began in the 1880s. Many countries in Europe challenged each other for: dominance over the land in Africa, for the materials produced in Africa such as palm oil, cotton, diamonds, cocoa and rubber, and for control over the ports along the coasts in Africa. • 5. An Example Of The Cocktail Party And Inattentional Blindness We think important objects and events in our world will automatically grab our attention, but they often don t, particularly when our attention is focused on something else. Cocktail Party Effect describes the ability to focus your hearing on one specific thing even though noise is all around you. It is named such because this occurs when you are at a party you can focus on the conversation you are having with the person close to you and can ignore all the other noise and conversation going on around you. Your brain helps you selectively focus on the person you are talking too and mutes the other conversation, music, and general noise around you. Whereas, the failure to notice unexpected objects or events when attention is focused elsewhere is now known as inattentional blindness. The interface between attention and consciousness are examples of the Cocktail party and Inattentional blindness. Per the website, Psychology.wikia, the cocktail party effect is an example of selective attention and is the phenomenon of being able to focus one s auditory attention on a stimulus while filtering out a range of other stimuli, much the same way that a partygoer can focus on a single conversation in a noisy room. This effect is what allows most people to tune in to a single voice and tune out all others. It may also describe a similar phenomenon that occurs when one may immediately detect words of importance originating from unattended stimuli, for instance hearing one s name in ... You see, most of the chemicals that we use on our lawns and gardens are neurotoxins, endocrine disrupters, immune inhibitors, teratogens, or carcinogens in other words, they interfere with our brains, our hormone and antibody production, and/or cause birth defects or cancer. Shockingly, many of them haven t even been tested to determine exactly what impact they do have on us. According to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), most pesticides have not been adequately tested to determine their effects on people or the environment (2). How is this possible? Simply put, when it comes to thousands of chemicals, the U.S. government largely puts the onus on us (the citizens) to show that they are too dangerous rather than asking companies that manufacture them to show that they are safe. In the area of pesticide production, chemicals do not need to (and therefore generally don t) undergo a battery of safety tests. Unfortunately, an increasing body of evidence suggests that these chemicals would fail such tests. We should be suspicious of the chemicals recommended for lawns and gardens for three reasons. First, key elements of the chemical industry have violated public trust in the past. Second, many chemicals that were once considered safe have been subsequently been banned or restricted in use. And third, as a general principle we should avoid introducing toxic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Flynn Effect And Nutrition Nutrition, the Flynn Effect, and Substance Abuse Carly Gottsponer PSY 3813 TC3 Korey Davis September 17, 2017 The Flynn Effect is the tendency of IQ scores to change over time, and specifically, the apparent increase in intelligence in the general population evidenced by a steady increase in IQ scores. It was first noticed by James Flynn (The Flynn Effect). As years went by and IQ tests were restandardized, it was noticed that when previous tests were taken the outcomes were better on the previous tests than the tests that were in current circulation. The Flynn Effect has a number of factors that can attribute to the effect taking place. One factor in particular that has been discussed by many different people is the factor of overall better nutrition. Overall better nutrition has occurred in many places over the last 100 years or so. This improvement has been linked to head growth, earlier maturation of children, increased height, and faster growth (Williams). Increased head growth most likely means that human brains are growing which can subsequently be linked to the increased intelligence that is proven by IQ scores. The earlier maturation and faster growth of children can also be linked to how a population s intelligence improves over many years. The Flynn Effect and nutrition are related through the correlation of increased intelligence and increased overall nutrition. The effects of the Flynn effect on nutrition and vice versa are extensive. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Usually we see that the protagonist of plays, stories and other works is heroic, smart and friendly to all...Not really the case in this play. Nat comes off as rude to me. He doesn t see Death as others would, with extreme fear, respect and perhaps hatred as well. This is evident in expressions such as: Don t but me. Listen Mister, it s very late. That s too bad for you. You should pay attention . For me, it is like he belittles him. Something that I also noticed about Nat, is his casual talk with Death, which in turn surprises the readers. When I was reading this play, it alarmed and disturbed me quite a bit. We see that he holds a comfortable air when it comes to their conversation, something that most of us would not have in a situation like this... Other aspect of Nat s personality is that he is quite ungrateful. • 11. The, Legend, Lore, And Hearsay Essay Over the course of a long and arduous journey to find a place to settle, the people found themselves through the journey. They found many things that they liked, and they settled around the things that gave them the best opportunities for survival. Consequently, they created a system of belief that got them through the long wait for land, and once they got it, they praised it. In the course of that long migration they had come of age as a person. After all, they had conceived a good idea of themselves; they had dared to image and determine who they were, (Momaday, 77). Here Momaday addresses the migration of his ancestors. As a result, the people had been modified by their journey, and so finally they began to consider who they were and what they were meant to become. What remains is fragmentary: mythology, legend, lore, and hearsay and of course the idea itself, as crucial and complete as it ever was. That is the miracle, (Momaday, 77). In regards to his culture, Momday expresses his perception of the stories his father once told him as a child. Indeed, he is now old enough to understand the myths, and the great legends that have shaped his culture and living environment. It is a whole journey, intricate with motion and meaning; and it is made with the whole memory, that experience of the mind which is legendary as well as historical, personal as well as cultural, (Momaday, 87). Even though the villagers may have not wanted to work under British rule, they had no other choice. The tannery had such a major impact on the villagers lives. While the tannery can be seen as a good way for many individuals in the village to get jobs, this is one of the only benefits the tannery provided. While jobs were created, the workers still received a low pay and had to work under harsh conditions. The main purpose of the tannery was to make leather products and sell them. This had nothing to do with global progress and in fact, everything to do with gaining power and sovereignty. The British used these Indian peasants to become even more dominant. Similarly, this idea of having no choice can be seen in history when Indians were either sent away to work abroad in factories or sent to fight in the British military in order to receive a higher pay. In this article, Merryman, in the most unbiased way possible, assesses both Britain s and Greece s side of the argument pertaining to the ownership of the Elgin Marbles and whether they should be returned to Greece after being removed from the Parthenon by Lord Elgin in the early 19th century. Morality of the removal is the point most frequently visited in the ownership argument. Did Elgin remove the marbles morally? Did he take them with good intentions? Was it his place to take them? These are all arguments that grant Greece the sympathy card, but unfortunately for the Greeks, legality overrules emotion in the setting of a courtroom. However, the Greeks are adamant about making the morality of this case known. Melina Mercouri spearheaded the emotional argument, stating that the marbles were made by the Greek, for the Greek and therefore, belong to the Greek. Byron, a poet of the time, was unfair and depicted Lord Elgin as an ...exploitative, unfeeling despoiler of a helpless Greece. These two bring with them a large fan base and powerful case of emotion, but ultimately, the morality question cannot be fully answered; this point, when all said and done, is based on opinion and cannot be used in a court of law. Continuing with morality, people want to know if it is morally right to keep the marbles in Britain. This is where preservation, integrity and distribution come into play. • 21. Types Of The Human Host All bacteria require certain amounts of transition metals to sustain life. These metals are necessary to carry out important metabolic processes in the cell. Among other things, transition metals can act as cofactors and they can be incorporated into metalloenzymes, transcription factors and storage proteins (10). A. baumannii requires efficient mechanisms to acquire these transition metals, especially when confined in a human host. The human host carries an abundant amount of metals that can be harnessed by invading pathogens. To hinder a bacterium s exploitation of these metals, the human host employs a variety of techniques collectively termed nutritional immunity (10). For instance, calprotectin (CP) in the host chelates intracellular stores of manganese (Mn) and zinc (Zn) to inhibit bacterial growth [5]. All pathogens require essential metals such as iron to sustain life. Iron is a significant component in oxidative phosphorylation, contributing to ATP production (21). The human host also sequesters iron via various mechanisms in an attempt to further inhibit bacterial growth. These iron limitation strategies include storing iron intracellularly by complexing it to ferritin, serum transferrin and lactoferrin in mucosal surfaces (10). In the blood, iron is also complexed to heme (10). Even when a red blood cell is lysed, hemoglobin is quickly bound by haptoglabin and free heme is bound by hemeopexin (Hpx), further limiting A. baumannii s access to iron (10). ... In women, hair care is very important since the old days. Maintaining good hair is now a growing trend in older women to avert negative image of aging. Hair is a beautiful part of human biology. Did you know that the human scalp has at least 100,000 hair follicles? The hair grows in an even rate by about half an inch per month or six inches each year. The hair grows from the root or bottom of the follicle, while the blood vessels nourish the root. Oil glands provide the necessary chemicals to keep the hair shiny and soft. Every food or medication you have taken recently may be reflected on your hair, the reason why chemical analysis of the human hair is used as a diagnostic tool. Hair loss does not automatically indicate a health problem. We lose about 50 to 100 hairs a day and that is perfectly normal. The indication of abnormal hair loss is when your hair falls out in clumps, visual signs of thinning, and exposure of large parts of your scalp. Some women can experience hair loss during menopause while men suffer from baldness due to genetics. There are other factors that can cause hair loss, such as diet, stress, and lifestyle habits. 1. Androgenetic alopecia is the most common type of hair loss caused by genetics. The condition can lead to baldness and hereditary thinning. About 80 million people in the United States, both men and women, suffer from this type of hair loss. 2. Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes and lupus, may contribute to hair loss. Alopecia areata or other autoimmune disorders cause the immune cells to attack your own hair, leading to hair thinning and hair loss. Diabetes slows down the process of hair growth and having the disease can make you vulnerable to alopecia areata. Thyroid disorders like hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can also cause hair to fall out. 3. Insufficient nutrition can disrupt the hair growth cycle. Certain deficiencies affect the growth of hair cells, which slows down the cycle and results in unhealthy hair texture. Because of a lack of water during this time, dead plant matter littered across the forest floor start to shrivel up, until they re practically begging to be lit on fire. During this season, a single ember can ignite a wildfire capable of searing through hundreds of acres of forest. Just like this powerful, heat ridden ember, a single act of cruelty can ignite even worse, more pitiless acts. The significance of this theme is so great, it is manifested into Holden s red hunting hat. The reason why the red hunting hat is linked to the book so much is because of its unusuality. Holden got the hat from a store in New York for a dollar, but he never goes hunting or anything of the sort. Its purpose is to remind him of innocence; Allie and Phoebe s red hair or even as a blankie. The general rule for Glycemic index is that low glycemic index food was digested and absorbed slowly and high glycemic index food are rapidly digested and absorbed. These two factors result in different glycemic responses from the body (Sun, O Reilly, Li, and Wong, 2013, p. 1001). It is because of these reactions that many people have become interested in seeing how the different glycemic index of food will help athletes during exercise. When a patient is undergoing surgery to remove the cancer cells, the doctors will often have them go through radiation beforehand to shrink the cancer or tumor down to a size that is easier to remove and to ensure they are not removing more than necessary. Often during surgery, the surgeons will again treat the patient with radiation while they are open so that the radiation is hitting the direct tumor or cancer cells being targeted. Criticizing Lucretius s Argument On Death Criticizing Lucretius s argument on death, which he claims is a distraction to our desires and therefore it is a bad thing for us and that an immortal life will make sure we fulfill our desires. Bernard Williams approached Lucretius s claim with his counterargument in which he opposes Lucretius theory of death by skeptically claiming that death is not always a bad thing because it can also end bad things such as suffering, as a matter of fact he opposes immortality in that it should not be your option to fulfill all your desires because after those desires are fulfilled it will lead one s life to boredom and one s life will lose its meaning. He offered two types of desires, conditional desires which are desires one wishes to complete during their life and these desires are something they wish to accomplish but are not the reason for prolonging their lives and categorical desires which are unconditional. Categorical desires are desires that one looks at and say I want live longer so that I came achieve this desire. Williams claims that it is the categorical desires that make one wish for an eternal life, but encourages that it should not be one s necessity to wanting to live forever because after these desires fulfilled repetitively they cause one to question their existence or meaning of life. Some think that this is one of happy memories between a son and father. Others think that the waltz covers up the truth of child cruelty. In my opinion, the symbolism and the imagery in My Papas Waltz gave me the automatic thought of the abusive relationship between the father and son. But after investigating the poem I could begin to see the positive side. After reading the first line of Roethke s piece, My Papas Waltz, I automatically assumed this poem had negative meaning. The first couple lines state, The whiskey on your breath Could make a small boy dizzy (Lines 1 2). Meaning the father has been drinking, and not just a little. He was so drunk that even the smell of his breath could make his son, feel a bit light headed. Alcohol makes people do crazy things so this could possibly give the father the idea and the ability to harm the child. Because in most cases it is not a great situation when a drunken adult presents himself to a child. This poem could be comprehended as a description of a young boy s experience of abuse from his father. But I hang on like death seems to show a child s frightful feeling from having to face a drunken father.
