Before the firm became bankrupt, they had more than $275 billion in assets under management.
Furthermore, since the time the bank went public in 1994, the firm had increased net revenues over

In 1994, Richard S. Fuld took control of Lehman Brothers as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Under Fuld s aggressive leadership, the company flourished and became one of the largest investment
banks in the United States. (Crossley Holland 2009) reported that in 1994, each Lehman Brothers
stock was averaging at $4 and by 2007 it catapulted to $82 creating a 20 fold increase. From 1994,
Lehman Brothers gradually adopted an aggressive growth business strategy by expanding into highly

(MBS). By 2007, Lehman Brothers was the biggest underwriter of mortgage backed securities of the
U.S. real estate market.

Martha Sigall Research Paper
Martha Sigall has passed away at the age of 97. Martha Goldman Sigall was born on April 17, 1917 in
New York. She spent much of her life in the animation business mainly working in the ink and paint
department and other associated activities at various studios, eventually compiling over fifty years in
the Hollywood industry. Moving to California in 1926 where by chance living around the corner from
Leon Schlesinger s Pacific Title and Art company, she ran errands for the staff at around the age of 12.
On July 13, 1936, she became a painter at Leon Schlesinger Productions, home of Looney Tunes and
Merrie Melodies, starting out at $12.75 a week, then later an inker. After leaving Schlesinger, she
worked at Graphic Films (a small Hollywood animation house which ... Show more content on

Avery, Chuck Jones, Bob Clampett, Friz Freleng, Mike Maltese, Frank Tashlin, Bill Hanna and Joe
Barbera, Leon Schlesinger, Irv Spence, and so on, but was personal friends with all of them, their
wives, and their families. She loved talking about stories of how fun animation was and her days at
Schlesinger s studio (she had co edited the in house newsletter in the early 40s!) and her later jobs
during the golden age, that she wrote an autobiography/memoir, Living Life Inside the Lines: Tales
from the Golden Age of Animation (I highly recommend her book for those who love those old, black
and white cartoons). In it, she reveals Leon Schlesinger was a genuinely nice man with a sense of
humor and talks about Mel Blanc and many other people, some of whom, like assistant animator
Harold Soldinger, no stories had ever been written. She has had wild experiences working and
laughing with the Looney Tunes crew, partying with them on bowling and baseball nights and
weekend scavenger hunts, and performing in the company s theatrical

Gilgamesh Analysis
Gilgamesh One of the earliest surviving works of literature is The Epic of Gilgamesh. It is a source
into understanding the Sumerians and what they believe. The Epic of Gilgamesh takes place in an
ancient Sumerian city of Uruk, which is modern day Iraq. We can take a few things away from this
poem about the Sumerians. For one, they have strong beliefs in gods and goddesses and they have a
self consciousness of their cultivation with the natural world. The main character of this poem is
Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk. Gilgamesh is 1/3rd human and 2/3rds god, incredibly handsome, and is
one of the strongest humans. Ultimately Gilgamesh is the most powerful man of his time, which
allows him to exploit women and wear out the city. Gilgamesh s power started to irritate the people
and they needed someone who would be able to stand up to him. Hence, the goddess, Aruru, created
Enkidu, Gilgamesh s frenemy turned loyal companion. Before Enkidu became Gilgamesh s friend and
loyal companion, he was one with the wild. Instead of being part human, part god, Enkidu was 1/3rd
human and 2/3rds beast. He lived in the forest with animals only eating grass and drinking out of
water holes. He was unaware of the civilized life outside of the forest. He did not understand the ways
of civilized life. Instead he was used to his primitive ways, he did not know what losses he was facing
verses what he was going to gain. After the temple prostitute, he developed a need for human

The Goal Of The Physical Education Teacher
Mismatch between What is Taught and What is Needed for Careers
The goal of the physical education teacher education curriculum is to train teachers who can provide
effective teaching and produce learning outcomes in children. However, when it comes to train
preservice teachers, there is no consistent curriculum across the programs in the U.S. It depends on the
interests and abilities of teacher educators and to the demands of the institutions in which they serve
(Locke, Mand, Sidentop, 1981). This disciplinary debates about what to teach has been continued
since 1964 initiated by Henry (Collier, 2006).
The primary point of this debate in physical education teacher education curriculum lies in the
confliction between two knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Rovegno (2001, p. 93) also claimed that since the mid 1990s, the tide has turned. With the
work of Ennis and her colleagues and students, in particular their recent work on Sport for Peace,
curriculum theorist such as Kirk and Sparkes, Peter Hastie and colleagues work on Sport Education,
and Barrett s work on lacrosse, curriculum and subject matter research and scholarship has blossomed
and is growing. The quality of this work in comparison to other fields in education is strong and this
work is accepted in the top general education journals.
The Categories of the Knowledge Areas in Physical Education
Before I talk about my rationale of claiming that we should teach K 12 content knowledge area, I
describe the categories of knowledge areas included in physical education. In 2001, Locke defined
that the knowledge areas of physical education teacher education programs into three categories (p.
24).
(a) The knowledge of schools as a social institution and education as a primary social process:
The focus of this area is preparation for participation in a changing, challenging, and profoundly
political environment.

Pricing and Revenue Management
Implementation of Pricing and Revenue Optimization
Introduction
Perhaps one of the most difficult managerial decisions in the 21st century is the decision to make a
decision. Analysis paralysis, endless meetings, and corporate structure have made it painstakingly
difficult to come to any real conclusions. So when the Chief Financial Officer, Bruce Berman, of
Bloomindale s was tasked with decision to implement ProfitLogic s Pricing Optimization (PO)
system, he called upon Daniel Gabbay, an analyst in the finance division, to make sense of the
numbers and guide his decision making process. Berman was considering implementing a PO system
to quantify the markdown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fortunately, performing these non parametric techniques for just a few of the possibilities would give
insight as to whether we were on the right track and the time spent analyzing the data in this manner
could prevent a long arduous path to an erroneous conclusion. Statistics is a science, and like all
science, it requires testing. And after this initial testing and concluding that the PO System does
increase revenue this assumption is perfectly reasonable to make since ProfitLogic is still in business
we could then build a model to determine by how much revenue will be increased and what the
payback period might be.
Building the Regression Model
As previously mentioned, no analysis is given for the regression model, so we shall at least attempt to
ask the appropriate questions needed to make an intelligent decision. We begin by looking at the
structure of the regression model prior to performing the diagnostic procedures. First, we must
understand why the consultants chose to model the revenue in the markdown period as a product of
the observed performance in the regular period, the PL effect, Department effect, the promotions
effect, and a constant. If there are no PL effects, department effects, or promotions effects, then the
revenue is simply a function of the overserved performance in the regular price period. This is logical,
as adding in an effect simply scales the revenue.

How Did Thucydides Contribute To The Peloponnesian War
Thucydides, an Athenian who lived during the Peloponnesian War (431 404 BC), may be one of the
earliest western war theorists thanks to his work, History of the Peloponnesian War. His history
described the conflict between ancient Athens and Sparta. In doing so, he authored one of the most
balanced and powerful explanations of the causes of war.
Thucydides, linked to the Athenian aristocracy, enjoyed a wealthy upbringing and education as a
youth. As an adult, he served as a commander for Athens. He witnessed a number speeches, debates,
and events or heard them second hand that decided the many courses the war would take. This all
bears out in the articulate, informed narrative of the war from tactical through strategic levels.
Surprisingly, Thucydides maintained an objective perspective through much of his history. One
assumes that as an Athenian, he would take a pro Athens approach. However, two reasons provide
balance and significance to his work. First, following the loss ... Show more content on

Ancient Greece consisted of many competing city states; the most powerful consisted of democratic
Athens and authoritarian Sparta. Each power made strategic decisions in different ways. The
Athenians set and adjusted the course of the war through open debate and voting while the Spartan
oligarchy under a king cast the final decisions. Additionally, each state s economic nature affected
their military character. The agrarian Sparta formed a dominant landpower while the seafaring
Athenians cultivated a powerful navy. Further, though a small theater of operations compared to
modern standards, time and space affected the course and nature of the war. Wind speed and sea
conditions limited throughput along lines of communication. Rigid Hellenic phalanxes encouraged set
piece battles. Annual growing seasons restricted when soldiers were able to fight and how far they

In the film remember the titans which Boaz Yakin directed there were some significant character
changes. But the character that seemed to change the most in my opinion was Gerry Bertier. In this

other people and his attitude, how he changed during the movie how he viewed other people and how
his attitude changed and the impact of his change. During 1971 the school of TC Williams intergraded
the black and whites under one roof. In the one of the first scene it shows a wide camera shot of the
blacks and whites rioting against each other. Since the to tow separate schools were integrating this

Exploring the Mexican Independence from Spain Essay
Introduction To what extent was Mexico s independence from Spain a full scale assault on
dependency ? This essay will investigate how the Mexican independence from Spain was only slightly
a full scale assault on dependency , due to several political and social conflicts. Firstly, Mexico
remained a monarchy (but not under the control of Spain) after the insurgency. Secondly, there was
still an official state religion in Mexico. Another reason is because social conflicts reduced the desire
for independence .On the other hand, it assaulted dependency because there were some changes within
the social hierarchy, and because Mexico was free from Spain.

For example, some of his reforms were the following: 1. That America is free and independent of all
nations; 8. The salaries of the representatives will be enough for sustenance; 13. That the general laws
apply to everyone, without excepting priviledged bodies, along with other radical reforms (Morelos).
Unfortunately, none of them were actually implemented, as Morelos guerilla warfare tactic, resulting
in many defeats. Finally, his movement ended as he was executed in 1815 by the Spanish Inquisition (
Father Hidalgo Proclaims Grito de Dolores ). Towards the year 1820, desire for independence within
Mexico decreased, as there was an inner conflict between the peninsulares, creoles, and the lower
classes, as the aspirations of the lower castes would reduce the political and economic power of those
classes (Keen 169; Huck 51). But then there was a new leader of the independence movement:
Agustin de Iturbide. Instead of continuing the legacies of Morelos and Hidalgo, he changed sides,
fighting only for the independence of Spain (Huck 53 54) His conservative plan, the Plan of Iguala,
consisted of creating a constitutional monarchy, establishing Roman Catholicism as the official
religion of Mexico, and giving equality to only peninsulares and creoles (Kirkwood). Despite
establishing independence, the Plan of Iguala created a long line of dictators, only to make

The Distributive Justice Theory Of John Rawls
Inequality and inefficiency are universal issues plaguing society that countless economists have
attempted to understand and address. Distinguished economists such as John Rawls, Amartya Sen,
Robert Nozick, and Milton Friedman have developed their own theories of to achieve distributive
justice, or a fair allocation of resources for all members of society. In Rawls justice as fairness and Sen
s capability theory, the economists come closest to achieving plans of distributive justice that retain
the output promoting effects of compensating differentials and recognizing the costs of Okun s leaky
bucket, but a plan that retains Rawls social contract and Sen s capability focus would come closest to
achieving justice. The distributive justice theory of John Rawls concerns justice as fairness. In his
theory, Rawls defines justice as demanding equality, unless inequality makes the least advantaged
person better off. Rawls proposes two major principles of justice: (1) that each person should have the
same equal right to basic liberties and (2) that social and economic inequalities are attached to
positions and offices open to all under equality of opportunity and are to the benefit of the least
advantaged group of society. This theory is determined by a social contract that assumes there is a
natural state on which people will agree based on moral equality. In this social contract, all members
wear a veil of ignorance through which they do not know anything about their own

Renaissance And Scientific Revolution
The Renaissance and Scientific Revolution paved way to the beginning of the Enlightenment.
Different philosophers began to think rationally and using the scientific method to discover the world
around them, rather than believe what the Church told them to do. Instead of thinking religiously, they
took a more rational perspective on not only the world, but on how to effectively run society. They
were able to spread their ideals through various translations to reach a broader audience, and the
printing press allowed them to spread their works and ideas throughout the lands. Isaac Newton was a
famous figure in the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment because of his view of the world as
a machine, also known as the Newtonian World Machine.

A Sorrowful Woman The story that is A Sorrowful Woman seems to be a story told from the point of
view of a narrator who focuses only slightly on the inner conflict of one of the main charters in the
story. The character of which I am speaking is never referred to by name, instead is called she, the
woman, mommy, and wife throughout the entire story which lends credence to the conclusion of the
viewpoint as being told from the outside. The first indication that the focus of the story will be not of a

Then in the next line there is no mention of the woman speaking to the child or acknowledging that
the child ever spoke to her. The purposeful shunning of the child by the woman is appalling and
baffling at the same time. The child in the story is an innocent, wanting to please and gain
acknowledgement and love from the very woman that is sickened by the very sight of the child. The
mysterious reasons for the shunning of the child can be guessed at in committee, but without more
history as to reasoning: the idea of the woman seeing the child as the one reason for her illness is the
most conclusive idea to be had. A supporting clause for the woman being ever more resentful of the
child is the description given when during the course of play, the woman is scratched enough to draw
a small bead or two of blood, One of his sharp little claws ripped her flesh, just above the wrist... a
thin red line materialized on the inside of her pale arm and spill over with tiny beads (6). The reaction
to this was not to grimace and clean her arm or to take time to trim the child s finger nails to prevent
such from happening again. Instead the woman says clearly Go away (6). Then lock herself away from
the child. No explanation or reason given to the child but to ignore and satisfy vengeance towards
what the woman views as something that

The Effects Of Deafness On Deaf Children
Deafness has been viewed as a negative label regarding someone with a hearing loss. The term Deaf is
considered to be a disability solely on the fact that an individual who is Deaf is not normal due to their
hearing loss. Most individuals do not believe that there are any benefits or positives from being Deaf,
nor do they believe that a Deaf individual will ever be able to live a happy and fulfilled life. Deaf
individuals do not view themselves as disabled nor do they view their lives as a loss, rather they view
their Deafness as a Gain. This is called Deaf Gain, meaning there are many positives that Deafness

them (Deaf Studies Digital Journal, 2009). Therefore, Deaf individuals are more aware of their

hearing individuals can also benefit from learning a visual language, such as American Sign

Learning American Sign Language as a second language and becoming bilingual can help brain

exposed to a signed and spoken language from birth does not cause a child to be language delayed and
confused (Petitto, 2001), rather the brain can handle dual languages. Being bilingual can enhance
cognitive development and particularly learning sign language can increase reading and spelling
scores. Petitto found from her research that children who ve had early exposure to sign language are
actually stronger readers in English than children who are deaf and who have not had access to sign
language as well as monolingual hearing English children (Petitto, 2001). Sign language also helps
individuals master spelling by fingerspelling words. Although there are many benefits for brain

Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea
The excerpt from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea written by Jules Verne is a debate on
rather or not Captain Nemo and Professor Aronnax should try to go beyond the barrier. After many

Electoral College Should Be Abolished
This country claims to have a democratic government, but that s not the case. We are supposed to
derive our votes from the people, the citizens. Yet, the people who decide who gets to be president are
the electoral college. The electoral college consists people who represent about 500,000 people in their
state. Some states don t have much of a population so it was guaranteed that each state will get at least
three electoral votes. Two being the senators each state has and one being a representative in the
House of Representatives. This was to make sure every state has a fair and equal representation in
voting for the president. The whole electoral system isn t fair. Americans are voting for a president, as
they should, but their vote doesn t count. The citizen s vote is called the popular vote and basically
does nothing because the vote that does matter is the electoral vote. The electoral should be abolished
because it is undemocratic, smaller states are being over represented, and it also hurts third parties.
One of the reasons that we should abolish the electoral college is because it undemocratic. Our
country claims that we are democratic and one of our core ideologies is power to the people. And yet
the people who are living under this government have no say in who s the next leader of the United
States? The power is in the electoral college and one of the main actions that goes into determining the
best candidate is the winner take all in which the candidate that

Various Learning Styles For Students At University
This essay will be an analysis of various learning styles available to students at university. According
to Javis, (2012) knowledge, education and learning techniques run alongside each other. However, as
students studying in higher institutions, it is important to understand various learning methods
available within the academic premises. Anecdotal observations amongst students has revealed that
individual students possess wide spectrum of academic knowledge and ability, as a result, these
students are also bound to learn differently either within themselves or from various styles learnt in
their higher institutions. Therefore, reviewing different learning styles is paramount in initiating
student s thought process in making changes to their learning programmes by taking advantage of
available resources to become more efficient and proactive learners. Finally, this analysis will initiate
deeper understanding in various learning styles which will be used to stimulate one s own personal
learning preference and serve as bedrock to which individual s academic or future career is built upon.
Loo, (2002) described a learning style as a coherent technique that a learner reacts to or rather relates
with stimuli within learning circumstances. Learning strategies such as time management and self
assessment skills serves as an integral fragment of learning process within the academic environment
(Javis, 2012).According to Honey and Mumford, (1986) personalised individual approaches to

If rejecting an undesired embryo means preventing the genetic inheritance of a seriously debilitating
disease, then maybe some benefit can be achieved for the greater good of human kind. However, I do
not feel there is any benefit in screening embryos for desired traits, and rejecting the undesired
embryos for superficial or cosmetic reasons. For example, I would not agree with a person screening
embryos to create their epiphany of a beautiful baby. How does the knowledge that Anna was
conceived to save Kate affect Anna s and Kate s perceptions of themselves, and their relationship with
each other? For instance, you might consider the following: o Will Kate feel guilty knowing that Anna
was created to save her life? o What if Anna can t save Kate? Will Anna face lifelong psychological
damage? Does Anna feel objectified as a spare parts baby ? Does Kate feel objectified as a sick

Kate s perceptions of themselves. This, however, does not affect their relationship with each other. In
Kate s case, I feel the knowledge that Anna was conceived to save Kate did make Kate feel guilty. She
felt like she was responsible for Anna s pain because as portrayed in the movie, Kate felt like she let
her parents hurt her sister. If Anna cannot save Kate, I do not think she will face lifelong psychological

Descriptive Essay On A Jazz Concert
It was the night of November 17, 2016; the concert was to be held in the concert room of the Palmetto
Center for the Arts, right across from the theater, where they were holding an acting workshop on the
same night. The lights were fully illuminated and glistening on the multicolored floor. I arrived at
about 6:30pm just in time to start my shift as a volunteer usher. The work was relatively easy; I stood
about 10 feet away from the door of the concert hall and reminded people I saw with any food or
beverage that they could not bring it in with them. I believe I only saw and reminded one person of
this rule, but hey, extra credit is extra credit after all.
After about 30 minutes of standing around, admiring the intricate and colorful tapestry of the current
exhibit hanging in the Palmetto Center (I believe it was the work of a man from Africa) it was finally
time for the show to begin. I (unfortunately) had missed the performances earlier that week, which
included a chamber orchestra (which I would ve loved to see) on Monday, faculty recitals on Tuesday,
choir and soloists on Wednesday, and (just barely) was able to attend the final day and performances
on Thursday, which were the Jazz Ensembles and Student Led Combos.
Although I do not particularly love jazz as a genre I do have a subtle fondness for it deep in my heart.
Jazz (especially freeform) conjures up images, sights, and sounds of early Sunday morning car rides
with my mother. She d have on 101.9 as I sat in the back seat and happily hummed along with the
freeform jazz sailing peacefully through the air, filling the car with intricate and fleeting sax solos
with trumpet accompaniment. These memories make me appreciate jazz, although I still don t love it.
As I was being led into the concert hall, the only thing that really stood out to me was how deep the
stage was. The jazz ensemble was seated in the upper most level, but still needed an acoustic shell to
really project their sound to the audience. The concert hall was a lot larger than expected, with the
seating plan a lot steeper than I had imagined. The audience was mostly a mix of different ages, there
were a lot of (what I could make out) parent there to see their sons and daughters on stage,

Assess the Contribution of Leni Riefenstahl to Her Period...
Leni Riefenstahl was one of the most revolutionary and certainly most controversial filmmakers of the
early twentieth century. The lasting influence of her innovative filmmaking techniques on twentieth
century cinema is undisputed by scholars throughout history, but the exact nature of her work is
surrounded by ongoing controversy. Riefenstahl s production of the feature films Triumph of the Will
(Source 3) and Olympia (Source 1) have left a lasting imprint on history; these films established
Riefenstahl s influential career as a film director under the years of the Nazi regime. Although these
films are attributed by scholars and critics to be Riefenstahl s greatest achievements they are also
considered to be her greatest fault, for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Hitler came into her life, Riefenstahl was already an accomplished actress and director. Like
many Germans living in economic despair at the time, she found the Fuhrer charismatic and praised
his efforts to build National Socialism, by her own words unaware of his ultimate intentions. Although
Riefenstahl denied all accusations, connections with the inner circle of the Nazi Party meant she was
often accused of having a romantic or sexual relationship with Hitler. Riefenstahl held that her
relationship with him was purely professional. (Source 4)
Riefenstahl s significance as a historical figure can be further seen as a powerful female pioneer.
Riefenstahl excelled in a career dominated by men, which transcended Nazi Germany and impacted
on an international level, questioning gender roles of the time. She was able to obtain the admiration
of Hitler, who viewed her as a great artistic talent, at a time when society confined women to strict
roles (Kinder, Kirsch and Kutch). Leni Riefenstahl was able to significantly impact history through
challenging gender roles by becoming a female pioneer not only in her field but also in society as a
whole by becoming one of the most prominent figures in a male dominated society.
The influential career of Leni Riefenstahl has been a point of great contention amongst scholars and
filmmakers over the last few decades. The legacy Riefenstahl leaves behind are her achievements and

Church s Opposition To Capital Punishment In The Roman...
Capital punishment: the legally authorized killing of someone as punishment for crime. In the United
States, there is a distinct line between matters of Church and State; capital punishment falls under the
territory of the State. But, in 1974, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the USCCB,
made the decision to publically announce the Roman Catholic Church s opposition to capital
punishment after a former president of the USCCB called the issue of capital punishment not only a
profound legal and political question but also an important moral and religious issue. But, even this
sagacious group of Church officials had a difficult time pin pointing the Church s exact reasoning for
their defensive against capital punishment. Throughout the article, the bishops try to make sense of
many twisting questions, including: in the eyes of the Church, what circumstances, if any, make
capital punishment acceptable? Although the 1980 article was released by the USCCB in attempts to
help the people of the Church understand this contradictory issue, it fell short due to the fact that even
the accredited statements run in circles.
According to Part I, Purposes of Punishment , the Catholic Church is not and will never be completely
sure if the state has the right to end the life of a person guilty for a heinous crime. While ending the
villain s life protects the citizens from danger, it violates the Roman Catholic Church s belief that all
life has value. Bishops urged

Changing School Grade To Year-Round Education
Researchers have found that home life plays a very important role in how kids learn. Barbara Heyns,
tested students at the end of the year and at the beginning of the next year in order to see if the
summer months caused this achievement gap to widen. She found that gaps in skills grew quickly
during the summer in between, when school was out (Downey and Gibbs 349). Based on this research,
Downey and Gibbs conclude that school actually lessens the gap because students retain more during
the school year than in the summer months where the gap widens. The obvious solution then, is to
change the school year to year round education, however researchers found that students learned about
the same amount in both school rotations (Downey and Gibbs 346 351). ... Show more content on

Can Schooling Contribute to a More Just Society by Michael A. Apple is about how he thinks
education reform should progress. The article begins with a story of a child crying because he must
repeat fourth grade. Apple tells us that the child, Joseph worked hard and improved over the course of
the year, however he failed two classes. Based on the school s rules, Joseph must repeat the year.
Ultimately, holding students like Joseph back make the school look like they are really trying to
educate their students (Apple 353 354). However, he says we do not exist on a level playing field
therefore, policies will likely benefit wealthy people rather than the poor inner city students (Apple

and the political world to gain strength and push their views. Acknowledging how well the Right can
pull people to their cause is something to admire, although Apple thinks we should critically evaluate
their agendas. He ultimately puts out the idea, if the Right can get all these votes why can t the Left

Cultural Effects on English Language Collocation as...
Abstract
In English language, there are many fixed, identifiable, non idiomatic phrases and construction. Such
groups of words are called recurrent combinations, fixed combination or collocation. Collocation fall
into two major groups: grammatical collocation and lexical collocation.
For people who regard the English language as a foreign language or second language, it s so difficult
to express it as perfect. This mini research paper talks about Cultural Effect on English Language
Collocation as Foreign Language to help them more understanding in how to mastering English.

Strong: A large number of collocations are strong or very strong. For example, we most commonly
talk of rancid butter, but that does not mean that other things cannot be rancid.
2. Weak: These are words which co occur with a greater than random frequency. Many things can be
long or short, cheap or expensive, good or bad. However, some things are more predictable, which
could be called collocation; for example, white wine or red wine.
3. Medium strength: These are words that go together with a greater frequency than weak collocations.
Some examples are: hold a meeting; carry out a study.
The context in which a collocation is used is important. Certain collocations or expressions are
appropriate for certain contexts. Factors such as a difference in status or a social distance between the
speaker and the hearer can affect the choice of collocational phrases. For example, we would not greet
our boss by saying How s it going? ; however, it is all right to greet a friend that way. This example
suggests that knowledge of connotation and formality is important in deciding which collocation to
use. (Deveci, 2003).

Radon Essay
Radon
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive element that can be found in soil, underground water, and
outdoor air. Some of the properties of this gas include being odorless, tasteless, and colorless. The
concentrations vary throughout the country depending on the types of rocks that are found in the soil.
Exposure over prolonged periods of time to radon decay products has been associated with an
increased risk of lung cancer.(3) The EPA describes an elevated concentration as being at or above
their suggested guidelines of 4pCi/l
(pico Curies per liter, used as a radiation unit of measure for radon).
Exposures below this level may create a risk of lung cancer, farther reductions to lower levels may be

Uranium and its by products of decay, namely radon are abundant and are constantly being generated.
(13) Radon is capable of easily traveling through rocks and soil.(14) The gas is also found dissolved in
water, due to decay in the soil or rock below.(15)
Radon in Water
The risk from radon in water is much lower than the risk from radon in air. This is because the water
must be heated or agitated to release the gas.
This can happen in a shower, boiling water on a stove, or by using a washing machine. Most public
water supplies don t present a radon risk, this is because the water is aerated at the treatment site and
the gas escapes into the atmosphere. Most water that contains hazardous amounts of radon comes
from wells. Wells should be tested for radon if the building that they are supplying contains hazardous
amounts in the air. The testing procedures for water are different from those used on air.(16)
Water containing radon can usually be treated. The most effective treatment is to remove radon from
the water before it enters the home, this is called point of entry treatment. Water can also be treated at
the tap, this is known as point of use treatment. However this treatment is much less effective at
removing the risk.(17)
Radon Entry
Radon travels through the ground and into the air, allowing the gas to easily enter buildings and
homes.

Essay On Irish Immigration
Just recently, over 4 million immigrants came to the United States from Europe. According to A
Library of Congress Book: Immigrants, By 1890, New York City alone will have twice as many Irish
as Dublin... and as many Germans as Hamburg. Over 75% of the immigrants are from Ireland and
Germany. Now, since it was obviously not a coincidence that 4 million people were added to the
United States population so quickly, you wonder what the reasons were behind their large movement.
The Irish had the motivation to move when, in the mid 1840s, a potato blight, caused the famine. The

They viewed the United States by its offer of greater economic opportunity. They thrived for more
freedom from government control and left Germany to find that. Most of the German immigrants
came to mid western states and became farmers. Those who were not hired as farmers were anything
from tailors to servants to clerks to food merchant at Urban Centers. In my opinion, our country is
populated enough and we do not need people from other countries joining in now. There is a reason
that Germans are called Germans, and that Irish are called Irish. It is because of the fact that being a
German is because you are from Germany and same with any other country. As long as we are staying
in our country, why must others leave theirs? We are called Americans because we are from America
and everyone else gets their title because of their nationality, place of birth, or simply where the family
originated. This could also cause problems for our country with a largely increasing population. If you
think about it, you realize that if our country doesn t change with the new population, folks may have
to either build new homes or move in with residents of the area. People have different ideas but this
can seriously cause major issues for our country. I am not sure that the United States would even be
considered as our country

The Role Of Women In Persepolis
In the distance, chaos builds and guns are shot. By standing up for their rights, people are dying in
riots. These riots were about women. All around the world, women are treated differently. The graphic
novel, Persepolis, enlightens readers about the Islamic Revolution and how women were treated
during that time. Because the author was young when she experienced the Islamic Revolution, the
novel is in the perspective of her as a little girl. In the book No God But God, readers are educated
about Muhammad s views of women and the religion of Islam. The Islam depicted in Persepolis
differs from Muhammad s original vision of Islam by treating women as inferior to men while
Muhammad s vision treats women as equals. In the novel Persepolis, men objectify women, because
they were said to be distracting. To remedy the biased thoughts of the men, women were commanded
to wear headscarves and extensive clothing that covered all skin with the exception of their face. The
Islamic Regime enforced this by making it a law to alway wear the hijab: Women s hair emanates rays
that excite men. That is why women should cover their hair! (Satrapi 74). Because women could no
longer wear what they wanted, they felt oppressed and degraded. The regime cruelly enforced the rule
by telling their citizens that it would protect women from all potential rapists since women were so
exposed. In the novel, Marji s mom s car broke down, so Marji and her dad went to pick her up. When

What Is The Importance Of Memory In Our Lives
The Importance of Memory in Our Lives Memory is a process that involves retention, retrieval, and
using the information that is taken in by the senses and stored. Memory can be compared to a time
machine that allows you to go back into any moment in time. Memory can also be used by students to

There are other things that students are not aware we use memory for such things are having
conversations because memory is needed to track how the conversation is flowing as well as finding a

structural features which are three stages. The first state is sensory memory which is where all
information that is being taken in is held for a couple of seconds. The second stage is the short term
memory which can hold 5 to 7 items for 15 to 30 seconds. The last stage is long term memory can
hold a large amount of information that can be stored for years or decades. This memory system is
described as a control process because it is active and is controlled by the individual and differs from
person to person. Control process includes rehearsal which is the repetition of a stimulus in order to

Side Effects Of Vaccination Essay
Vaccines very rarely have any adverse effects and have been proven to have no link to the
development of ASD in children. Nevertheless, parents continue to fear them. While this research
article by Andrew Wakefield along with twelve others from the Royal Free Medical School in London
seems legitimate, the data was found to be distorted (Deer). Moreover, the article was then retracted in
2010 and Wakefield s medical license was revoked (Deer). In Wakefield s research of the children, it
was found that only one clearly had regressive autism (Deer). In fact, many of the children that
Wakefield had studied in the article had developmental delays, and also facial dysmorphisms noted
before MMR vaccination (Deer). Even after the article was retracted and it was proven that his
research was unfounded, there continued to be skepticism about vaccines but they are urged to
inoculate their children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

vaccinations. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the most common
side effects, which include pain, swelling or redness where the shot was given, mild fever, chills,
feeling tired, headache, and muscle and joint aches, are mild and are signs that the body is beginning
to become immune to a disease. Some people may experience an allergic reaction to a shot which is
the worst of the side effects a vaccine may have. Serious side effects from vaccines are extremely rare.
For example, if 1 million doses of a vaccine are given, 1 to 2 people may have a severe allergic

Social Warnings in Literature
Throughout time, works of literature have often carried messages of great social importance. It is
essential to understand these significant themes and agendas in order to understand the basis of the
novels. Throughout The Prophet s Hair by Salman Rushdie, War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells and A
Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, there is much evidence supporting the idea of social or
political warnings, one could argue, about the functionality of society and those who govern said
societies. The philosophies discovered by the reader (set there purposely by the author) provide the
means to the essential bridge between reading literature and understanding the possibilities and
comprehending the literature in question. Allegorically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Think of what earthquakes and floods, wars and volcanoes have done before to men! Did you think
God had exempted Weybridge? He is not an insurance agent.
(p.78) This quote from the narrator helps us try to understand where he is coming from. Society is
based on evolution, not miracles, as many religions suggest. Faith can only go so far; and after that,
one can only depend on himself, not the religious leader he looks to. This novel also hints at how
unprepared the government is in regards to national emergencies, from natural disasters to alien
encounters. And although the chances of humans interacting with extra terrestrial creatures are slim, it
would take an awfully closed minded person to assume that Earth is the only planet with semi
intelligent organisms. There is a lot of dependence upon the state for guidance, as well as religion.
And while the state may not be perfect to the average citizen, in times of need or trouble, they are the
religious back up. H.G. Wells is practically screaming for society to gain a sense of self rather than a
sense of spiritual acknowledgement.
The novel A Clockwork Orange is littered with ideologies regarding social and political messages and
allegorical imagery supporting Anthony Burgess pessimistic approach to life during his later years.
The coldness of reality, the societal need for revenge and the importance of free will all play a large
role in the philosophies given in the book. The

Nantucket Nectars Essay
Nantucket Nectars
Tom Scott and Tom First started Allserve, a floating convenience store serving boats in the Nantucket
Harbour during their summer holidays in college. After graduation, during the winter of 1990, First
recreated a peach fruit juice drink that he came across in Spain and started a side business selling fresh
juice. Everyone loved the product and they went on to open the Allserve General Store on Nantucket s
Straight Wharf. They named the fruit juice Nantucket Nectars .
Scott and First invested their collective life savings of about $17,000 to contract a bottler and finance
inventory in the first two years. The next two years saw them operating in an undercapitalized state on
a small bank loan. Subsequently, in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
SWOT Analysis
Strength
Nantucket Nectars numerous strengths have led to their success. They produce all natural products
that have a great taste, have a very strong management team as well as a strong branding, guerilla
marketing skills, possess the ability to exploit small, rapidly changing market opportunities, last good
access to single serve distribution in the New Age beverage market, and is the best vehicle for juice
companies to expand into the juice cocktail category without risking their own brand equity. In
addition, Nantucket Nectars management team has the required knowledge and experience with the
single serve business and thus has the ability to add value to large player who wants to roll out new
single serve products.
Weakness
As a company with limited financial resources, Nantucket Nectars have been disadvantaged in their
channels of distribution. They have not been able to distribute their products in the supermarket on a
large scale. As can be seen from tables D and E, although most of the New Age beverages were sold in
the supermarkets (55%), the proportion of Nantucket Nectars supermarket sales was only 1%.
Nantucket Nectars distributed their products mainly through other channels like delis and educational
institutions and is thus missing out on a large portion of the consumers pie This inevitably means that
the company would be able to increase their revenue substantially if they were able to distribute their
products in the

Premarital Sex And Its Effects
In a study conducted in the United States, 61 percent of men and 12 percent of women born prior to
1910 admitted to having premarital sex; the gender disparity may have been caused by cultural double
standards regarding the admission of sexual activity. Starting in the 1920s, and especially after World
War II, premarital sex became more common; this was especially prevalent among women. By the end
of the 20th century, between 75 and 80 percent of Americans had sex before the age of 19. During the
colonial period, premarital sex was publicly frowned upon but privately condoned to an extent. Even
though premarital sex was somewhat condoned, having a child outside of wedlock was not. If a
pregnancy resulted from premarital sex, the young couple were expected to marry. Beginning in the
1950s, as premarital sex became more common, the stigma attached to it lessened for many people.
Love began to become enough for a reason to practice sex, instead of marriage or engagement in the
eyes of many. The percentage of ever married men and women who had premarital sex (20 44 years
old) between 2006 and 2010 is 90.6% men and 86% women (www.cdc.gov). A new study of 38.000
Americans has found that 95% had premarital sex (www.truthdig.com). Another statistic says that 3%
of the US population, represents nearly 10.000.000 person, wait until marriage. These 3% wait to
found love, get married then have sex for the first time after they get married. (waitingtillmarriage.org)

Lack Of Income Inequality In Education
In the 21st Century everything is digitized, from emails to the education system. This trend is
especially prevalent in Marin County, where the median income is $90,535, nearly double that of the
national median income. The elementary schools in the county teach their students to use websites like
StudyIsland™ and TypingPal™ to help students learn, study, and excel in the ever evolving
technological world. This trend follows in the middle and high school curriculum. With a culture so
embedded in technology as a result of the assumption of wealth and access, the district, faculties, and
students have grown accustomed to amenities only a minority of people have access to. Certainly, this
isn t the case as there are students who are economically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That statement is true; for example, students can go to the library and access resources there from
computers to printers. However, that still doesn t solve the issue of equaling the playing field and
promoting an equal education. Students who have to use the library most likely have limited access to
personal transportation as well. If student s family can t afford to invest their money into educational
technology at home, the same family is very unlike to be able to sustain the cost of purchasing and
maintaining a car. The lack of personal transportation leads to an extensive walk or bus ride to their
nearest library. The time it takes for them to get to the library takes away from valuable time that
could be used to better their studying, and with libraries often closing at 8 9PM, the student s time

Method
Protocol
In order to find a protocol to systematically search and identify studies researching the effectiveness of
training programmes in ethics and its influence on ethical leadership and ethical behaviour, previous
systematic reviews on these topics were searched. However, no review protocols were found.
Consequently, to ensure transparency with this systematic review, an evidence based checklist was
used to guide this review s methodology. Specifically, this review followed the Preferred Reporting
Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analysis Protocols (PRISMA P) statement, designed by
PROSPERO in order to organise this research report (Moher et al., 2015). PROSPERO is an
international prospective register of systematic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

sources, and were consequently removed. Namely, items 2, 3a, 3b, 4, 5a, 5b, 5c, 11c, 12, 13, 14, 15a,
15b, 15c, 16 and 17 were omitted from the review. Subsequently, this adapted version of the PRISMA
P 17 item checklist is presented in appendix table 1B. Lastly, it needs to be noted that this adapted
version of the PRISMA P checklist is not quality assessment tool and was only used as a mere guide
for the researcher.

Types of studies. The review considered literature focusing on the development of ethical leadership
in organisations (private and non private) using interventions incorporating ethics training. According
to Kelly, Sadeghieh and Adeli (2014), peer reviewed literature can ensure credibility to findings,
because it allows scholarly work to be critically examined by other researchers in the same field. As a
result, full text, empirical peer reviewed journal articles and dissertations were considered for
inclusion in this review. Studies for inclusion reported the development of ethical leaders where
training programmes formed part of the intervention. Types of participants. Studies considering
participants that were actively working within a private or non private organisation. Studies involving

The Destructive Sprawl of the Suburbia on the Environment...
The Destructive Sprawl of the Suburbia on the Environment Growing up in Northern Toronto, it had
never occurred to me that the neighbourhood I was living in was planned long before my neighbors or
I decided to move and build this a community. As I grew older and I started to notice new areas being
built I noticed that from afar those hundreds of houses were being built and organized in preparation
for hundreds of families. Personally, I am interested in the development of subdivisions and the
suburbs due to my family owning a property around the area of Lake Simcoe. It seems as though that
with every passing year it takes another few kilometers or minutes to escape the confines of the city
due to the growth of the suburbs around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The end of the war opened new avenues for the American public due to new innovations in technology
and organization (Marshall, 1979). Abraham Levitt, an American entrepreneur, established a
community in Nassau County, Long Island. Levitt converted former farmland into a suburban
community where thousands of individuals could find housing. Approximately, 17,000 houses were
built and sold or rented to middle income families (Naish, 2014). Among the American population,
there was a desire for individual freedom following World War II. One being able to attain a large
living space and accumulate material wealth became engrained in the American Dream. Many realized
that the suburbs and living in planned subdivisions of land was an affordable option. This led to the
growth of suburbia throughout the late 20th century. These same desires are what allow the suburbs to
flourish today. The US Census Bureau published in 2002 The Demographic Trends of the 20th
Century. In the 20th century, the American population grew from 76 million to 281 million, with 80%
of the 281 million living in urban areas. It is the suburbs that represented the largest degree of growth.
Suburbia houses over 50% of the American people (Hobbs et al., 2014).
While providing high quality housing for millions of people across North America, the sprawl of
Suburbia has harmed the

Greek Mythology Affecting Modern Day Literature
Greek mythology is a body of myths put together by the ancient greeks. These myths have been told
for many years and are still told today. Greek mythology affects lots of modern day literature, media,
and even languages. Many movies we watch now and days come from greek mythology. For instance
the blockbuster Troy which was based mainly off of the book The Iliad by Homer. In the movie the
prince of Troy, whose name is Paris, convince the queen of Sparta to leave with him back to Troy and
when the King of Sparta finds out that his queen had left with him he asks his brother, Agamemnon, to
get his wife back from Troy; so he agrees and contracts achilles who is invincible to help him
according to IMBD. For the most part everything is the same in the book by Homer. This shows that

Actually the Greeks had stories about these amazing heros or adventures that were written down but
they were called epic poems. For example the book Percy Jackson and the Oolympians: the Lightning
Thief by Rick Riordan is based off of multiple different myths and gods says Enotes. This book is very
similar to the epic poems that were written by Greeks that talk about a hero who was no more anyone
else but was actually very special and the hero had to go on a dangerous adventure against all odds.
Also the story A Tree Telling of Orpheus by Denise Levertov which is originally a myth about the
Ggod Oorpheus who could charm anything animate or inanimate according to Pearson Literature.
Back then myths like this were told for entertainment besides the people who actually believed in
them but till this day these myths are being told in books, articles, poems all for the purpose to
entertain peoples minds with unrealistic stories. The epic poems and myths are still read today and
passed on for the captivation of

  • 5. Gilgamesh Analysis Gilgamesh One of the earliest surviving works of literature is The Epic of Gilgamesh. It is a source into understanding the Sumerians and what they believe. The Epic of Gilgamesh takes place in an ancient Sumerian city of Uruk, which is modern day Iraq. We can take a few things away from this poem about the Sumerians. For one, they have strong beliefs in gods and goddesses and they have a self consciousness of their cultivation with the natural world. The main character of this poem is Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk. Gilgamesh is 1/3rd human and 2/3rds god, incredibly handsome, and is one of the strongest humans. Ultimately Gilgamesh is the most powerful man of his time, which allows him to exploit women and wear out the city. Gilgamesh s power started to irritate the people and they needed someone who would be able to stand up to him. Hence, the goddess, Aruru, created Enkidu, Gilgamesh s frenemy turned loyal companion. Before Enkidu became Gilgamesh s friend and loyal companion, he was one with the wild. Instead of being part human, part god, Enkidu was 1/3rd human and 2/3rds beast. He lived in the forest with animals only eating grass and drinking out of water holes. He was unaware of the civilized life outside of the forest. He did not understand the ways of civilized life. Instead he was used to his primitive ways, he did not know what losses he was facing verses what he was going to gain. After the temple prostitute, he developed a need for human ... Profitlogic s Pricing Optimization Chris Watt, Sarah Elmer, Kyle Luithly 1 May 2015 Pricing and Revenue Management Implementation of Pricing and Revenue Optimization Introduction Perhaps one of the most difficult managerial decisions in the 21st century is the decision to make a decision. Analysis paralysis, endless meetings, and corporate structure have made it painstakingly difficult to come to any real conclusions. So when the Chief Financial Officer, Bruce Berman, of Bloomindale s was tasked with decision to implement ProfitLogic s Pricing Optimization (PO) system, he called upon Daniel Gabbay, an analyst in the finance division, to make sense of the numbers and guide his decision making process. Fortunately, performing these non parametric techniques for just a few of the possibilities would give insight as to whether we were on the right track and the time spent analyzing the data in this manner could prevent a long arduous path to an erroneous conclusion. Statistics is a science, and like all science, it requires testing. And after this initial testing and concluding that the PO System does increase revenue this assumption is perfectly reasonable to make since ProfitLogic is still in business we could then build a model to determine by how much revenue will be increased and what the payback period might be. Building the Regression Model As previously mentioned, no analysis is given for the regression model, so we shall at least attempt to ask the appropriate questions needed to make an intelligent decision. We begin by looking at the structure of the regression model prior to performing the diagnostic procedures. First, we must understand why the consultants chose to model the revenue in the markdown period as a product of the observed performance in the regular period, the PL effect, Department effect, the promotions effect, and a constant. If there are no PL effects, department effects, or promotions effects, then the revenue is simply a function of the overserved performance in the regular price period. This is logical, as adding in an effect simply scales the revenue. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Did Thucydides Contribute To The Peloponnesian War Thucydides, an Athenian who lived during the Peloponnesian War (431 404 BC), may be one of the earliest western war theorists thanks to his work, History of the Peloponnesian War. His history described the conflict between ancient Athens and Sparta. In doing so, he authored one of the most balanced and powerful explanations of the causes of war. Thucydides, linked to the Athenian aristocracy, enjoyed a wealthy upbringing and education as a youth. As an adult, he served as a commander for Athens. He witnessed a number speeches, debates, and events or heard them second hand that decided the many courses the war would take. This all bears out in the articulate, informed narrative of the war from tactical through strategic levels. Surprisingly, Thucydides maintained an objective perspective through much of his history. One assumes that as an Athenian, he would take a pro Athens approach. However, two reasons provide balance and significance to his work. First, following the loss ... This essay will investigate how the Mexican independence from Spain was only slightly a full scale assault on dependency , due to several political and social conflicts. Distinguished economists such as John Rawls, Amartya Sen, Robert Nozick, and Milton Friedman have developed their own theories of to achieve distributive justice, or a fair allocation of resources for all members of society. In Rawls justice as fairness and Sen s capability theory, the economists come closest to achieving plans of distributive justice that retain the output promoting effects of compensating differentials and recognizing the costs of Okun s leaky bucket, but a plan that retains Rawls social contract and Sen s capability focus would come closest to achieving justice. The distributive justice theory of John Rawls concerns justice as fairness. In his theory, Rawls defines justice as demanding equality, unless inequality makes the least advantaged person better off. Rawls proposes two major principles of justice: (1) that each person should have the same equal right to basic liberties and (2) that social and economic inequalities are attached to positions and offices open to all under equality of opportunity and are to the benefit of the least advantaged group of society. Descriptive Essay On A Jazz Concert It was the night of November 17, 2016; the concert was to be held in the concert room of the Palmetto Center for the Arts, right across from the theater, where they were holding an acting workshop on the same night. The lights were fully illuminated and glistening on the multicolored floor. I arrived at about 6:30pm just in time to start my shift as a volunteer usher. The work was relatively easy; I stood about 10 feet away from the door of the concert hall and reminded people I saw with any food or beverage that they could not bring it in with them. I believe I only saw and reminded one person of this rule, but hey, extra credit is extra credit after all. After about 30 minutes of standing around, admiring the intricate and colorful tapestry of the current exhibit hanging in the Palmetto Center (I believe it was the work of a man from Africa) it was finally time for the show to begin. The jazz ensemble was seated in the upper most level, but still needed an acoustic shell to really project their sound to the audience. In the United States, there is a distinct line between matters of Church and State; capital punishment falls under the territory of the State. But, in 1974, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the USCCB, made the decision to publically announce the Roman Catholic Church s opposition to capital punishment after a former president of the USCCB called the issue of capital punishment not only a profound legal and political question but also an important moral and religious issue. But, even this sagacious group of Church officials had a difficult time pin pointing the Church s exact reasoning for their defensive against capital punishment. Throughout the article, the bishops try to make sense of many twisting questions, including: in the eyes of the Church, what circumstances, if any, make capital punishment acceptable? Although the 1980 article was released by the USCCB in attempts to help the people of the Church understand this contradictory issue, it fell short due to the fact that even the accredited statements run in circles. According to Part I, Purposes of Punishment , the Catholic Church is not and will never be completely sure if the state has the right to end the life of a person guilty for a heinous crime. While ending the villain s life protects the citizens from danger, it violates the Roman Catholic Church s belief that all life has value. Bishops urged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Changing School Grade To Year-Round Education Researchers have found that home life plays a very important role in how kids learn. Barbara Heyns, tested students at the end of the year and at the beginning of the next year in order to see if the summer months caused this achievement gap to widen. She found that gaps in skills grew quickly during the summer in between, when school was out (Downey and Gibbs 349). Based on this research, Downey and Gibbs conclude that school actually lessens the gap because students retain more during the school year than in the summer months where the gap widens. The obvious solution then, is to change the school year to year round education, however researchers found that students learned about the same amount in both school rotations (Downey and Gibbs 346 351). ... This is because the water must be heated or agitated to release the gas. This can happen in a shower, boiling water on a stove, or by using a washing machine. Most public water supplies don t present a radon risk, this is because the water is aerated at the treatment site and the gas escapes into the atmosphere. Most water that contains hazardous amounts of radon comes from wells. Wells should be tested for radon if the building that they are supplying contains hazardous amounts in the air. The testing procedures for water are different from those used on air.(16) Water containing radon can usually be treated. • 48. Premarital Sex And Its Effects In a study conducted in the United States, 61 percent of men and 12 percent of women born prior to 1910 admitted to having premarital sex; the gender disparity may have been caused by cultural double standards regarding the admission of sexual activity. Starting in the 1920s, and especially after World War II, premarital sex became more common; this was especially prevalent among women. By the end of the 20th century, between 75 and 80 percent of Americans had sex before the age of 19. During the colonial period, premarital sex was publicly frowned upon but privately condoned to an extent. Even though premarital sex was somewhat condoned, having a child outside of wedlock was not. If a pregnancy resulted from premarital sex, the young couple were expected to marry. Beginning in the 1950s, as premarital sex became more common, the stigma attached to it lessened for many people. Love began to become enough for a reason to practice sex, instead of marriage or engagement in the eyes of many. The percentage of ever married men and women who had premarital sex (20 44 years old) between 2006 and 2010 is 90.6% men and 86% women (www.cdc.gov). A new study of 38.000 Americans has found that 95% had premarital sex (www.truthdig.com). Another statistic says that 3% of the US population, represents nearly 10.000.000 person, wait until marriage. These 3% wait to found love, get married then have sex for the first time after they get married. (waitingtillmarriage.org) .By 2000, roughly a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Lack Of Income Inequality In Education In the 21st Century everything is digitized, from emails to the education system. This trend is especially prevalent in Marin County, where the median income is $90,535, nearly double that of the national median income. The elementary schools in the county teach their students to use websites like StudyIsland™ and TypingPal™ to help students learn, study, and excel in the ever evolving technological world. This trend follows in the middle and high school curriculum. With a culture so embedded in technology as a result of the assumption of wealth and access, the district, faculties, and students have grown accustomed to amenities only a minority of people have access to. Certainly, this isn t the case as there are students who are economically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That statement is true; for example, students can go to the library and access resources there from computers to printers. However, that still doesn t solve the issue of equaling the playing field and promoting an equal education. Students who have to use the library most likely have limited access to personal transportation as well. If student s family can t afford to invest their money into educational technology at home, the same family is very unlike to be able to sustain the cost of purchasing and maintaining a car. The lack of personal transportation leads to an extensive walk or bus ride to their nearest library. • 50. Example Of Systematic Review Method Protocol In order to find a protocol to systematically search and identify studies researching the effectiveness of training programmes in ethics and its influence on ethical leadership and ethical behaviour, previous systematic reviews on these topics were searched. However, no review protocols were found. Consequently, to ensure transparency with this systematic review, an evidence based checklist was used to guide this review s methodology. Specifically, this review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analysis Protocols (PRISMA P) statement, designed by PROSPERO in order to organise this research report (Moher et al., 2015). The review considered literature focusing on the development of ethical leadership in organisations (private and non private) using interventions incorporating ethics training. According to Kelly, Sadeghieh and Adeli (2014), peer reviewed literature can ensure credibility to findings, because it allows scholarly work to be critically examined by other researchers in the same field. As a result, full text, empirical peer reviewed journal articles and dissertations were considered for inclusion in this review. Studies for inclusion reported the development of ethical leaders where training programmes formed part of the intervention. Types of participants. • 51. The Destructive Sprawl of the Suburbia on the Environment... The Destructive Sprawl of the Suburbia on the Environment Growing up in Northern Toronto, it had never occurred to me that the neighbourhood I was living in was planned long before my neighbors or I decided to move and build this a community. As I grew older and I started to notice new areas being built I noticed that from afar those hundreds of houses were being built and organized in preparation for hundreds of families. Personally, I am interested in the development of subdivisions and the suburbs due to my family owning a property around the area of Lake Simcoe. It seems as though that with every passing year it takes another few kilometers or minutes to escape the confines of the city due to the growth of the suburbs around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The end of the war opened new avenues for the American public due to new innovations in technology and organization (Marshall, 1979). Abraham Levitt, an American entrepreneur, established a community in Nassau County, Long Island. Levitt converted former farmland into a suburban community where thousands of individuals could find housing. Approximately, 17,000 houses were built and sold or rented to middle income families (Naish, 2014). Among the American population, there was a desire for individual freedom following World War II. One being able to attain a large living space and accumulate material wealth became engrained in the American Dream. Many realized that the suburbs and living in planned subdivisions of land was an affordable option. This led to the growth of suburbia throughout the late 20th century. These same desires are what allow the suburbs to flourish today. The US Census Bureau published in 2002 The Demographic Trends of the 20th Century. In the 20th century, the American population grew from 76 million to 281 million, with 80% of the 281 million living in urban areas. It is the suburbs that represented the largest degree of growth. Suburbia houses over 50% of the American people (Hobbs et al., 2014). While providing high quality housing for millions of people across North America, the sprawl of Suburbia has harmed the ...
