Essay about Controlling Adolescents Exposure to Violence...
The debate about violence in media, such as video games, has been going on for years now,
however, there is no definite answer on what to do about it. Should adolescents be able to
differentiate between video game fantasy violence and real life? Is it partially the parents fault
for not controlling their access to these games? Perhaps there is more to it than just the scientific
side of things. Adolescents should be able to differentiate violence in video games from real life
and be able to recognize patterns in gender role and age. In turn, adults should be held responsible
for what the adolescents play by controlling access to this media in the first place.
Adolescents should be able to differentiate violence in video games, ... Show more content on

Researchers state that, the most frequently cited mechanism by which the games can result in
aggressive behavior is the social learning theory (Sherry 413). The researchers go on to argue that
since game players are rewarded for performing violent acts in the video games adolescents may
transfer this to the outside world. Another mechanism researchers cite for the effects of violent
video games is the general arousal method. This method says that the highly violent games provide
the arousal that is necessary to become more aggressive (Sherry 413). These arguments are valid
and open up the controversy on video game violence, which has been going on for years.
Video games have been a pan of American life since the 1970s (Bushman and Funk 1). Around
the late 1970s video games were becoming more advanced. This is around the time that the first
violent video game came out. Parents started to become concerned about the themes their children
would grasp from these games. However, it was not until 1992 with the release of Mortal Kombat
(Capcom ) that the debate really escalated (Bushman and Funk 2). Researchers and gamers
constantly collided with each other over the effects of media on adolescents. With the advent of
new graphics and newer systems, video games have gotten much more violent. The new Mortal
Kombat game, Mortal Kombat: Deception (Capcom ) has modern graphics and bloodier fatalities.
However, there are still profiles and explanations

The Potato Famine Essay
We are talking about one of the greatest tragedies
Of the nineteenth century.
Ian Gibson
Irish American. To some, this term merely designates one of the many ethnic groups which can be
found in the United States; but to those who are Irish American, it represents a people who faced a
disaster of mammoth proportions and who managed to survive at great cost. The Great Hunger of
1845 changed, or more often, destroyed the lives of millions of Irish, causing them to seek refuge
from poverty and starvation in other, more prosperous countries. However, not all countries would
accept these victims of the Potato Famine. After an immense burst of Irish immigration to Great
Britain, the British Parliament began to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who were very wealthy probably would not have been drastically affected by the famine
whereas those who migrated the most. However, the poorer element from counties such as Clare,
Kerry, and Mayo had weak representation in the area of migration after 1846 (114).
Everything that happened in Ireland during nineteenth century has indeed been overshadowed by
the catastrophe which overtook the country between 1845 and 1851. The Irish Potato Famine of
1845 1851 was one of the great catastrophes of the nineteenth century and divides modern Irish
history. It was a disaster which poisoned Anglo Irish relations for many generations to come, and
had profound effects not only in Ireland itself, but in England and North America as well.
Nineteenth century Ireland was the most densely populated country in Europe: in 1800, its
population was 4.5 million, and by 1841, it had risen to eight million (Kinealy 15). Yet much of
this population existed in condition of sorrow and misery lay in the dependence of the peasantry
on just one staple crop, the potato; in western countries like Mayo and Galway, nine tenths of the
people ate nothing else (MacManus 602). Here was a disaster waiting to happen, made worst by
the rapid rise in population in the first half of the century which forced the peasants to subsist on
smaller plots of land (O Grada, The Great Irish Famine 63).

Sigmund Freud And Alfred Adler s Theory Of Human Nature
Understanding Human Nature Alfred Adler, who was the first president of Sigmund Freud s
Wednesday Society in Vienna, had grown up in a very different way than the most important
figure in the Viennese Circle. Alfred Adler never considered himself to be Sigmund Freud s
disciple because of their very different views. While Freud had come from the District of
Vienna, Adler grew up in the outskirts of the city, and while Freud was known for his vast
knowledge, Adler was known for his work for the benefit of the lower class and feminist views.
Adler eventually became annoyed with Freud s beliefs and their inevitable split occurred in
1911. They did not fully disagree with everything however, as both Freud and Adler believed
that the human psyche was shaped in early childhood, but Freud focused on infantile sexuality
while Adler focused on how children strive for personal power in the world. One of a adler s
famous ideas is the idea of birth order which Says how a child in a family will try to imitate the
older members in order to become more assertive and Powerful since they are often the smaller
and less powerful members of that family. This idea of birth order simply put, says that every
child develops in different ways the best allow to compensate for weaknesses that they may have
. however, if a child is brought up correctly, they will have no need to feel inferior to everyone
else and therefore will not develop an unhealthy need to come on top of everyone else.

Examples Of Bravery In I Am Mordred
The code knights of the Middle Ages followed laid out strict guidelines for them. They were
expected be top class and perfect in many ways. Of the strict rules they followed, there were also
several traits a knight was expected to exhibit. These traits of bravery, loyalty and generosity are
outlined in the novel, I am Mordred. Firstly, bravery is exhibited in various places throughout the
novel. The first is when Nyneve comes to take Mordred from his fishermother. Though Nyneve is
not a knight, she exhibits great bravery in riding alone. Mordred spends much of his life refusing
to fight and being content with being called a coward, until he is faced with death. He fights back
and is rescued by Sir Lancelot who says, Now you re a blooded knight,

Disney Princess Films Analysis
Perfection is not the lesson learned from Disney Princesses, but rather the beauty within oneself.
Stephanie Hanes argues in her article that Disney princesses have a negative impact on children;
she explains she got the idea when she saw her daughter becoming less imaginative, less spunky,
less interested in the world after seeing the Disney princesses movies (Hanes 1). Hanes further
points out that little girls that watch the princess movies experience the fantasy and imagination
provided by these stories as a typical part of their childhood maturation (Hanes 3). I believe
Stephanie Hanes was incorrect on the lessons young girls take from Disney movies, because there
is so much more to them then their body image. For example, Cinderella

Saturation And Synthesis Essay
Discussion When the degree of saturation О© is equal to one, the system is at equilibrium. When
О© is greater than one, precipitation should occur because the solution is saturated in ions with
respect to the solid mineral form. The data show that gypsum should have started precipitating
between sample 1 and sample 2 collection time, because this is when the degree of saturation
moves to beyond 1. The peak saturation for gypsum occurs between sample 3 and sample 4, and
decreases afterwards. This decrease is most likely caused by the decrease in available ions after
gypsum continued to precipitate through the experiment, leaving fewer calcium and sulfate ions to
contribute to the degree of saturation. As evaporation continues, halite approaches... Show more

Degree of saturation calculations showed that gypsum precipitated sometime before sample 2 was
taken and peaked around the time sample 4 was taken. Although calculated degrees of saturation
for halite did not exceed 1, the sudden decrease in sodium and chloride ions in solutions indicate
that precipitation most likely occurred, and then exhausted the ions to the point where the solution
was no longer saturated. Because the precipitate was not analyzed, whether or not halite did
precipitate out is not known. The order of precipitation recorded in the experiment agrees with

Work Life Conflict
Chapter I: Introduction Work life balance is a concept that supports the efforts of employees to
split their time and energy between work and the other important aspects of their lives. It is a daily
effort to make time for family, friends, community participation, spirituality, personal growth, self
care, and other personal activities, in addition to the demands of the workplace. Work life balance
will vary for each person and will change throughout life. It is a flexible working arrangement that
allows both parents and non parents to avail of working arrangement that provide balance between
work and personal responsibility. Work life balance is assisted by employers who institute policies,

The studies focused on the occupancy of three roles: parental status, informal caring and paid
work. It showed that 7% of people experienced caring for someone, 50% were parents and 66%
were in some type of paid work. The data for dual roles played by them were as follows; 34%
who were both parents and paid workers, 1% were parents and care takers, and 2% were paid
workers and care takers. 2% of the individuals in the survey played all three roles, and 18.7% of
the individuals had no role to play. It shows that only a small proportion of individuals in midlife
combined paid work with consistent care giving or other multiple role configurations. It was
found that men and women equally faced the multiple roles. Women were also likely to hold
some of the more intense roles than their male counter parts. There is a growing recognition by
policymakers of the importance of supporting individuals in juggling work and family life, as
reflected in the British government s launch in 2000 of the Work Life Balance Campaign. This
aims to encourage employers to introduce more flexible work practices in order to facilitate
workers reaching a better equilibrium between work and other spheres of their life (e.g., child or
adult caring responsibilities, as well as other interests). Although the number of companies offering
flexible working practices in Britain is growing, it is relatively small compared

Integrating Quotes Into Paper
Tips on Introducing Quotes General Principles Writers use quotations for a variety of purposes:
to argue with another author s definition of a term, to provide statistical evidence or testimony to
validate a claim; to present the reader with a statement we wish to refute or discuss in detail. If
writers overdo and include too many quotations in a research essay, readers will form the negative
impression that the authors of those sources are more authoritative than the writer of the research
paper. Often the voices of those authorities drown out the writer s voice, in a sense taking over
authorship of the paper. Writers should use direct quotations only when the source s words are
particularly relevant, powerful, and/or an extremely... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Argumentative Essay On Wicca
To understand the great right, you first have to understand that Wicca is a fertility religion. The
founder of Wicca Gerald Gardner explains Wicca as a very ancient ritualistic religion based on
survival. This rite is more closely based on the ritual of Beltane. During the Beltane rites the high
priest or priestess will enact the fertility rite by inserting the athame (which represents the horned
god) into the chalice (which represents the mother goddess). This is a form of sympathetic magick
where we enact a bigger picture with our own ritual tools. Before i did the research i honestly
thought the great rite had Something to do with sex. While it does indeed have to do with sex its
much more about fertility. I now know that the great rite has everything to do with praying to the
gods through ritual. Praying for fertility to the earth, animals and plants. Author Vivianne Crowley
says in Wicca: The Old Religion in the New Age, The outer rite involves a linking of the male
and the female; the sacred marriage is outwardly a marriage of two people, but inwardly it is a
marriage of the two within one person. The Great Rite is more than just a sexual union; it is the
enactment of the creation of the universe itself in the Wiccan tradition. In modern Wicca, many
practioners can and will use sex in ritual but this is more often than not used in personal practice.
When a man and woman are both practices of the faith and perform rituals together this is an
acceptable way to end the

Questions On Law For Managers
LAW FOR MANAGERS Question 1: 1 Offer The first element in a valid contract would be
offer. An offer or an agreement needs to be in contract because without offer there is no contract.
In the Contracts Act 1950 the first elements is an offer. It is one of the elements to make sure
that the contract is legally valid or acceptable. In a contract, it is important that a party would
make an offer. There is a difference of offer between an advertisement and an option. To make a
valid offer there should be at least two parties so that it would be legally capable of entering into a

A Doll House Stereotypes
A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen demonstrates gender role stereotypes placed on men and women
throughout the play. These labels placed on the characters seem to foreshadow those in real life.
Ibsen uses a metaphor of forgery and the power of money to bring what men and women natural
roles are to the forefront. The issue of genderequality in society and marriage is brought out
before the play even begins. When Ibsen decided to make the title A Doll House, he gave away the
hidden meaning of how the characters in the play will act like dolls and perform social scripts.

Torvald character fits these assumptions perfectly. In the play he works when Nora stays home
and takes care of the children. Also, Helmer tends to undermine Nora by using pet names such
as little lark , squirrel , little spendthrift , and little prodigal . For example he says, I see. But tell
me now, you little prodigal, what have you thought of for yourself? (Ibsen 890). Torvald also
cares about his public self or reputation way too much. Demonstrated when he exclaims, Abandon
your home, your husband, your children! And you re not even thinking what people will say
(Ibsen 937). Obviously Helmer lets the way society perceives him to control his life and decisions.
It seems Nora is like a modern day gold digger , always asking Torvald for money instead of earing
her own living like Mrs. Linde. Mrs. Linde says, Yes, so I had to scrape up a living with a little
shop and a little teaching and whatever else I could find. The last three years have been like an
endless workday without a rest for me. (Ibsen 895). This clearly shows how Mrs. Linde doesn t
fall under the typical stereotypes of a women in that time period. On the other hand Nora has
never held a steady job. Kristine asks Nora if she has ever worked and her reply was, Yes, odd
jobs needlework, crocheting, embroidery, and such and other things too (Ibsen 894). The jobs
listed are more like hobbies for most workers. Nora undoubtedly relies on her husband for a
source of money, and she spends a lot of it. Their marriage seems to be driven by more extrinsic
feelings rather than intrinsic, with the extrinsic factor being

The Prejudice Towards Black Men
In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows us the prejudice towards black men in the
American judicial system. Since the 1930s, the injustice towards black men and woman has not
improved. In the United States, over 2,3 million people are incarcerated and one third black babies
will be incarcerated, (Stevenson, P.15). To change this, we need to implement change now. Our
society needs to change before the next Tom Robinson is sentenced without a fair trial.
The town of Maycomb was the standard for treatment of Negros in the 1930s. An example of
discrimination Negros faced in To Kill a Mockingbird, was when Mr. Radley made the assumption
a black person was sneaking around in this yard. Miss Stephanie said that, Shot in the air. Scared
him pale, though. Says if anybody sees a white nigger around, that s the one (Lee, P.54). This
shows how Mr. Radley assumed only a Negro would sneak into his yard. Maycomb also shows
prejudice towards Atticus when he defends Tom Robbinson. Even Atticus s family displays
prejudice towards Atticus, I guess it ain t your fault if uncle Atticus is a nigger lover besides, but
I m here to tell you it certainly does mortify the family (Lee, P.83). This is Francis regurgitating
what his family has told him. Prejudice goes beyond Maycomb s habits and extends right into the
court of law with tom s trial. Tom was wrongly accused as a result of a prejudice jury. Even a
knowledgeable man, Atticus, knows that Tom would not be proven innocent

The story begins with introduction to the main character and narrator Meg, a high school aged

about her father, who has been missing for around a year. This changes one night, when a woman

feeble elderly woman, it is revealed later in the book that she is an incomprehensible being, capable

Stephen T. Easton argues that if marijuana was legalized, we could transfer these excess profits
caused by the risk premium from these grow operations to the government: If we substitute a tax
on marijuana cigarettes equal to the difference between the local production cost and the street
price people currently pay that is, transfer the revenue from the current producers and marketers
(many of whom work with organized crime) to the government, leaving all other marketing and
transportation issues aside we would have revenue of (say) $7 per [unit]. If you could collect on
every cigarette and ignore the transportation, marketing, and advertising costs, this comes to over
$2 billion on Canadian sales and substantially more from an export tax, and you forego the costs
of enforcement and deploy your policing assets elsewhere. One interesting thing to note from such
a scheme is that the street price of marijuana stays exactly the same, so the quantity demanded
should remain the same as the price is unchanged. However, it s quite likely that the demand for
marijuana would change from legalization. We saw that there was a risk in selling marijuana, but
since drug laws often target both the buyer and the seller, there is also a risk (albeit smaller) to the
consumer interested in buying marijuana. Legalization would eliminate this risk, causing the
demand to rise. This is a mixed bag from a public policy standpoint: Increased

The Black Hole, An Area Of Spacetime
The black hole, an area of spacetime thats gravity is so strong that it can prevent anything from
escaping, even light. Contrary to popular belief, black holes are not empty holes in space, but
rather a massive amount of matter packed into a small area. The graphic to the right shows the
simulated view of a black holein front of a Large Magellanic Cloud. The theory of these black
holes was conceived in Einstein s theory of general relativity. It predicts that a plentiful compact
mass will contort spacetime and create a black hole. The black hole acts like a perfect black
body, in the sense that it reflects no light. The area where the nothing can escape is the event
horizon. This event horizon has no features that can be detected from close up, and has huge
effects on what will happen to the object that crosses it. Also, according to the to quantum field
theory in curved spacetime, an event horizon will emit a black body radiation, also known as
Hawking radiation. The graphic to the right shows where the event horizon, and the black hole

Price Ceiling Bill
In light of Congress passing of the price ceiling bill, there has been a large amount of speculation
and fear mongering enforced by the media and opposing views. While the prospect of a price
ceiling is rather worrying, we are here to dispel any fears you may have. Yes, in some cases a
price ceiling may create a shortage of gasoline in the community, but with where our price shall
be set, and with our distribution of resources, we believe this issue can be resolved rather easily
and with minimum negative impact. Considering the effects of a price ceiling on the free market,
the equilibrium of supply and demand, or the set price decided on the natural process, is altered
depending on whether the price ceiling is above or below the equilibrium... Show more content on

High priority workers and commuters still get a portion of gas sufficient to sustain needs, and
finally, long distance drivers, I.E travelers, will get no privileges over other citizens. Reading
this may be disheartening to most, but I assure you that this is in a state of severe shortages, and
as I mentioned before, our price ceiling will much further above the equilibrium line, therefore
the chances of that being an issue are rather low. So to be clear on this, our price will be set at
$2.80 maximum per gallon. That way, the free market can continue to function, and will relieve a
lot of stress on the average consumer s wallet in reference to buying gasoline. And with the price
of oil continuously declining, and 60 90 years of fuel reserves at the current rate of consumption,
gas prices shouldn t ever peak above that with reasonable pricing in mind. While a price ceiling is
an anti capitalist prospect, it certainly shouldn t mean it s a negative enforcement. The Department
of Energy will continue to serve in the best interest of both consumers and

Best Two Things Of My Life
Best two things in my life
Reading and writing has always played part of me. From toddler to adult, I have managed to
sharpen both skills to my liking. However, even though it significantly helped, schooling was not
what influenced me to continue developing those skills to talent. Many different things shaped and
influenced my learning in my country, and now reading and writing have become the safety net of
my life. I know that even if I have nothing else in the future, I will still have my talent and
knowledge. To ensure my success, I hope to further develop those skills to be successful.

When I got a little too old to play outside, I began reading. Reading was the new outlet for my
imagination and the stories I read fascinated me. They weren t too unlike the scripts of computer
games or the own stories I came up with on my own, but books actually had the action and
emotional aspects written out. And again, while my peers were reading things about growing
up, things that had morals and would teach valuable lessons (I remember one book about a
shoplifter who had to do community service at an animal shelter), I read real fiction: Jurassic
Park, Dragonriders of Pern, Lord of the Rings... Stuff of fantasy and science fiction that let my
mind stray from reality. Stuff that kept my imagination alive while I was being forced to learn
multiplication and the names of countries. Of course, my teachers encouraged me to keep
reading, as long as I wasn t doing the reading in the middle of their lectures. But it wasn t because
of their influence, however, that kept me interested in books. It was because I loved it. It put
pictures into my head and made me think. So I kept reading. But even then I knew reading wasn t
enough... Yes, the stories were fascinating, but they weren t what I wanted. Back then I wasn t sure

Relationships and Setting in Willa Cather s O Pioneers!...
Relationships and Setting in Willa Cather s O Pioneers!
O Pioneers!(1993) by Willa Cather begins on a blustery winter day, in the town of Hanover,
Nebraska, sometime between 1883 and 1890. The narrator introduces four main character: the very
young Emil Bergson; his older sister, Alexandra; her friend Carl Linstrum; and a little girl, Marie
Shabata. Alexandra s father, John Bergson, is dying. He tells his two oldest sons, Lou and Oscar,
that he is leaving the farmland, and all of what he has accomplished, to their sister.
Alexandra is a hard working young lady and will do anything to make her father proud. When the
drought and depression struck three years later, Alexandra s determination to keep the farm allows
her to persevere. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lou and Oscar are married and each of them owns their own farm. Alexandra s farm is still the
most prosperous on the entire Divide. Emil is grown up and is leaving the Divide for the State
University. Carl Linstrum returns for a long visit after years of being gone. Marie is unhappily
married and it becomes very evident that her and Emil are falling in love.
This novel measures the influence of an individual against human desires and the forces of nature.
For example, Alexandra s relationship with the land summarizes the struggle between human
desires and the larger forces than manipulate individuals. This difficult relationship between
individuals and society is one of the most dominant themes and is depicted throughout the novel by
using setting to reflect the characters.
In the first sentence, Cather establishes a sense of symbolism when the narrator states ...the little
town of Hanover...was trying not to be blown away (1). Cather is personifying the prairie s
existence to help paint a picture of both the beauty and the difficulty of pioneer life. Much of the
opening section of the novel focuses itself to a description, and more importantly, to a
characterization of the land, setting personified forces and individuals into conflict with each other.
In this novel, the forces of nature are so powerful that they overwhelm the settlers. The narrator
states this fact when stating, The record of the plow was insignificant, like the feeble scratches on

Remember the refrain: We always build on the past; the past always tries to stop us. Freedom is
about stopping the past, but we have lost that ideal Lawrence Lessig. This quote is helpful to

This book is very good for details, events, places, names, stories, etc. It shows the reality behind
all the events that took place during the holocaust. He made sure to describe as much as he

Analysis Of If By Rudyard Kipling
I chose poetry because it usually carries many rhetorical elements and is open to more
interpretation. Kipling is successful in achieving this through his poetry because of his experiences
and audience. The main audience he is writing to would be his son, but once he circulated his work
physically and then eventually onto the Internet, the poem applied to many different people. I
chose Kipling s piece in particular because of the emotional bond he distinguished with his audience
along with the many interpretations I was able to gain from this piece. Depending on where a
person is at in their life maturity wise, they can get different lessons from this piece and I found
that very unique about his writing and how he was maximizing the use of his literature. In If, a
poem by Rudyard Kipling, he integrates his personal experiences in a parallel structure in order to
form an emotional bond to the audience and leave the ending open with multiple interpretations.
Kipling s person experiences are constructed to leave a message of maturity for both audiences.
Kipling has his poetry set in a parallel structure and left many of the lines open ended for further
interpretation. He guides the reader in the right direction of the mature thing to do, however,
depending on where a person is at, the audience will take their own route with their personal
mindset. Kipling is trying to convey the message that maturity is not age, but rather growing from
situations and how a person handles

U.s. Federal Gasoline Tax
Abstract Increasing the United States federal gasoline tax is currently a debated issue as a means
of curtailing dependency on foreign oil and improving the country s environment. An increases,
however, would be regressive and would place another hardship on citizens who already feel as if
taxes are too high. Because of the unpopularity of such a tax, nationally elected officials have not
seriously floated the plan as means of raising revenue, but it could be used as a means to
progressively cut income taxes.
Introduction Increasing the federal gasoline tax could reduce carbon emissions, benefit the
environment, decrease the current government deficit, and cut our reliance on foreign oil. Higher
taxes, however, are not met ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of this study is to examine both arguments and conclude whether a higher federal
gasoline tax is warranted.
History In 1932, the first gasoline tax was created and cost consumers one cent per gallon. Over
the past 80 years, this tax has constantly increased. Events such as the Korean War in 1951 and
the construction of interstate highway systems in 1959 caused the tax to raise to its current
level of 18.4 cents per gallon, which is its current rate (Williams, 2005). Revenues collected have
been utilized for a variety of purposes. For almost 20 years between 1932 and 1956, taxes
collected were allocated to the general fund. The Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 established
the Highway Trust Fund, where all monies collected were allocated until 1983 when some funds
were placed in a mass transit account. Today, 15.44 cents of every 18.4 cents is allocated to the
Highway Transit Fund (Buechner, 2007). Controversy over the federal gasoline tax has always been
present, with opposition from the public to every proposed increase. Recently, when discussions
arose to use the tax to generate revenue, many public officials recommended suspending recent
increases and some argued to suspend the tax in its entirety citing its drain on the economy. These
suggestions were not, however, implemented.

Compare And Contrast Citizens United Vs Fec
What do corporations and individual citizens have in common? According to the court ruling of
Citizens United v FEC, people and corporations should have the right to speak their mind. Unlike
corporations, most individual citizens do not have the vast amount of resources that huge groups
are strategically designed to make. Corporations are much more capable of getting what they want
because of their strength in numbers and the influence that they have. Their main goal is to make as
much money as they can and as a result, their money has the ability to influence politics. The
Supreme Court s ruling allows money to speak. Instead of protecting free speech, it undermines
democracy.

Definition Of Income Inequality
In my opinion, one of the most controversial topic in the recent election was Income Inequality. The
real reason people are unable to talk others into believing them when they argue on the Income
Equality is because not everyone knows the correct definition of Income Inequality. Income
inequality means unequal distribution of household and income in the economy. Income inequality
is also presented as the percentage of income to a percentage of the population ( Income Inequality )
which means the difference between the amounts of money each family spend on themselves. On
the other hand, economic inequalityis measured among groups in the population or between
countries. (Wikipedia, Economic inequality ) In my opinion, income inequality is a problem that
is faced by every country, but it is not a problem that should be tackled immediately. The rich are
money making machines. Today, the top mega wealthy the top 1% earn an average of $1.3
million a year. It s more than three times as much as the 1980s, when the rich only made $428,000;
on average... Meanwhile, the bottom 50% of the American population earned an average of

However, I thought I could make friends by drinking green tea because I think one of the

Learning Style for Student Nurses

I will also be focusing on the learning cycle and learning style using the Honey and Mumford 80

importance of recognising one s learningstyle preference. I will also provide an understanding of
learning and learning theories and discuss my own dominant learning style and how I aim to deal

The behaviourist approach, used by Pavlov and Skinner (1927 and 1952 cited in Gould, 2009),
established that learning is change in behaviour brought about by experience. Studies and research
have proven that we can voluntarily and involuntary respond to certain stimuli, and what we have
learnt from previous experience. Such associative behaviour can condition our response to our way
of learning and shape our learning style (Yildirim Ozkahraman, 2011). Once we have recognised
the most predominant learning style we are able to work out how to strengthen the weaker learning
style and enhance the dominant. Cottrell (2013) stated that discovering which learning style is best
for us can help our learning in the most effective way.
There are four stages to the learning cycle, which are included in the four distinct learning styles.
The first stage is having an experience reactively, which allows the experience to come to us
without making much effort to seek it, in contrast to proactively whereby we seek out the
experience. The second stage is reviewing or reflecting on the experience. Reflecting on
experience is vital and it plays an important role in learning. The third stage is concluding from the
experience and lastly planning the next steps to enable the learner to have an action plan for what
is required to be done (Honey and Mumford 2006). There is a strong connection between learning
style and learning

Elements In Slaughterhouse-Five
Comic and Tragic Elements in Slaughterhouse Five
Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., is the tale of a World War II soldier, Billy Pilgrim. His
wartime experiences and their effects lead him to the ultimate conclusion that war is unexplainable.
To portray this effectively, Vonnegut presents the story in two dimensions: historical and science
fiction. The irrationality of war is emphasized in each dimension by contrasts in its comic and tragic
elements. The historical seriousness of the Battle of the Bulge and the bombing of Dresden are
contrasted by many ironies and dark humor; the fantastical, science fiction type place of
Tralfamadore is, in truth, an outlet for Vonnegutto show his incredibly serious fatalistic views. ...

Ironically the talented, trained scouts are killed by the Germans, whereas Billy and Roland are
spared and merely taken as POWs. The simplicity and innocence in the description of the tragic
ends of the scouts are told in the simple sentence, Three inoffensive bangs came from far away.
The ending of lives, especially that of comrades, cannot be characterized as inoffensive. Billy
doesn t say this to be unsympathetic, but rather from the shock of a war that alters his perception
of life, and makes him unable to deal with reality in a normal way.
More irony is shown with the horrible conditions on the POW train headed for Dresden, plagued
by cold weather, endless hours of nothing to do, and cramped surroundings. A hobo dies on one
boxcar while proclaiming, You think this is bad? This ain t so bad. Also, Roland Weary dies of

Grecian Influence
The Romans took from the Greeks the three orders of architecture, Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian,
based on different forms of column and the capital which surmounted it, and added a hybrid of their
own, known as Composite. (The Romans, n.d.) It is not a secret the Romans admired and took on
Greek culture, but the field of architecture the Romans created their own style. That is not to say
the Composite is free of Grecian influence as the influence from the Corinthian style is doubtless
present in the columns. Nevertheless, creating the Composite does not diminish the magnificence

undeniable. While many believe the Greeks and the Romans to serve the same gods, the Romans

Romans made something completely their own, the Composite. The Pantheon shows its order
through the Composite s classic Corinthian columns, and Roman circular floor plan. The Pantheon
may have an unusual floor scheme as a rectangle and circle merge together to create it, but this
shape facilitates the element of symmetry. The Pantheon took very balanced, and the dome and

strong bases in military science and holds a rich history dating back to more than 5,000 years (Tao
and Prescott, 2000)..
In the recent history, especially in the management field, this concept has been examined for many
times under different titles. For example, Aguilar (1967) and Fahey and King (1977) invented the
phrase environmental scanning, which concentrated on how the executives scan their organizations
environment.
Likewise, over time other labels have been utilized in prior studies to identify competitive
intelligence. Like:
Business intelligence (Cleland and King, 1975; Pearce, 1976).
Competition analysis (Ghoshal and Westney,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In center, Competitive Intelligence helps strategists to understand the forces that act upon the
business environment and, more significantly, to develop appropriate designs to compete
successfully (McGonagle and Vella, 2002).
Guimaraes (2000) provides us with a summary of the benefits of Competitive Intelligence practice
in strategic planning: bringing to light business opportunities and problems that will enable
proactive strategies; providing the basis for continuous improvement; omit light on competitor
strategies; improving speed to market and thereby supporting rapid globalization; improving the
possibility of company survival; increasing business volume; providing better customer assessment;
and improving understanding of external influences .
For the present research, Competitive Intelligence is defined as a Systematic and ethical process for
gathering, analyzing and managing external information that can affect the company plans,
decisions and operations (Saayman, et

Reforms For Stricter Campaign Financing Rules
Individuals and PACs in finance, insurance, and real estate have contributed over $2 billion to
federal campaigns since 1990. Wall Street contributions increased from $60 million in 1990 to $311
million in 2005 (Wall online). Electoral competition is achieved when qualified candidates have
access to sufficient spending to become known to the voters (Does online). Therefore the candidate
must resort to any means necessary to have sufficient funds to run a successful campaign. Stricter
campaign financing guidelines are needed to limit the amount of donations to candidates because
interest money is a dominant factor in campaigns. It steers the ideological views of the candidate
toward the Political Action Committeethat donates the most... Show more content on

SSFs are political committees established and administered by corporations, labor unions,
membership organizations or trade associations. These committees can only solicit contributions
from individuals associated with connected or sponsoring an organization (Quick online). One of
the loopholes that the political action committees found to limitlessly fund campaigns was soft
money. Soft money is a loophole that allows individuals, unions, and corporations to give unlimited
sums to parties and national party committees for party building purposes, at grass root level
(Edwards 284). These groups were able to bypass the regulations instituted by the Federal Election
Campaign Act. Regardless of how Congress enacted on stricter campaign financing guidelines,
unions, individuals, and corporations were still able to find loopholes to contribute money to
campaigns. Due to the absurd amounts of money that is required for the candidates to be able to
creditably and adequately compete; candidates have been forced to turn to PACs to fund their
campaigns. The current system of campaign financing argues that the high cost of office seeking
and current ways of meeting those costs not only distract elected officials from their primary task
of lawmaking, but leave the door open to the influence of special interests (Power online). This
method of campaigning is criticized to be undemocratic, because candidates do not attentively listen

Claviceps Prpure The Cause Of Hysteria In The Salem Witch...
In 1692, a great evil was cast upon Salem, Massachusetts. Twenty men and women were hanged
under the accusation of performing witchcraft, and in turn created a mass hysteria within the
citizens of Salem. Undoubtedly, the cause of these accusations and hysteria was ergotism, a disease
caused by infected rye grain. The conditions of the region contributed to much of the growth of
ergot. Ergotismhad many distinct symptoms, which matched much of the testimony and
accounts of those involved in the Witch Trials. All of these circumstances definitively caused
the terror and panic found in the town of Salem in 1692. Ergot, more specifically known as
Claviceps purpurea (The Witches Curse), is a fungus that mainly infects cereal grains. This
fungi is commonly found on the rye plant. In Salem, rye was a large, sustainable crop due to the
plant s growing season coinciding well with the ideal growing season of the region, as Spring
sowing was the rule; the bitter winters made fall sowing less successful. Seed time for the rye
was April and the harvesting took place in August (Linnda Caporael). The weather and climate
also provided for hearty rye crops to be grown. The weather in 1691, the year the rye consumed
in 1692 was grown, was described as Early rains and warm weather in the spring progressed to a
hot and stormy summer (Caporael). This wet weather was ideal for the crop to thrive. Concurrently,
ergot thrived in these wet, warm conditions. Due to the of the overlapping of

Analysis Of Dalton Conley s You May Ask Yourself
Dalton Conley s book, You May Ask Yourself, defines sociological imagination as, The ability to
connect the most basic, intimate aspects of an individual s life to seemingly impersonal and
remote historical forces (Conley 2015, pg. A 11). Sociological Imagination is the idea of being
able to step outside of the box, and evaluate society from an alternative point of view. Symbolic
Interactionism, norms, socialization, and the idea of understanding yourself vs. understanding
the social aspect of society, are some of the key concepts mentioned throughout this paper, to
help break apart what the sociological imagination consists of. Society is changing a lot, and
change can sometimes make it hard to cope with the world around us. Sociological imagination
is a lot deeper than just common sense. Author of The Sociological Imagination, C. Wright Mills
states, Talking about sociological imagination is what makes us feel more grounded in the face
of all these changes (C. Wright Mills). If I keep an open mind, and pay attention to the larger
world around me, I am better to understand the connections of what is going on in my individual
life, and what is going on in the social world. The sociological imagination has two lenses to it, the
individual lens, and the society lens. The individual lens deals with personal troubles; Individuals
comparing themselves to everyone around them. For example, with the media, we see all these
commercials, and ads that portray false

  • 3. Essay about Controlling Adolescents Exposure to Violence... The debate about violence in media, such as video games, has been going on for years now, however, there is no definite answer on what to do about it. Should adolescents be able to differentiate between video game fantasy violence and real life? Is it partially the parents fault for not controlling their access to these games? Perhaps there is more to it than just the scientific side of things. Adolescents should be able to differentiate violence in video games from real life and be able to recognize patterns in gender role and age. In turn, adults should be held responsible for what the adolescents play by controlling access to this media in the first place. Adolescents should be able to differentiate violence in video games, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers state that, the most frequently cited mechanism by which the games can result in aggressive behavior is the social learning theory (Sherry 413). The researchers go on to argue that since game players are rewarded for performing violent acts in the video games adolescents may transfer this to the outside world. Another mechanism researchers cite for the effects of violent video games is the general arousal method. This method says that the highly violent games provide the arousal that is necessary to become more aggressive (Sherry 413). These arguments are valid and open up the controversy on video game violence, which has been going on for years. Video games have been a pan of American life since the 1970s (Bushman and Funk 1). Around the late 1970s video games were becoming more advanced. This is around the time that the first violent video game came out. Parents started to become concerned about the themes their children would grasp from these games. However, it was not until 1992 with the release of Mortal Kombat (Capcom ) that the debate really escalated (Bushman and Funk 2). Researchers and gamers constantly collided with each other over the effects of media on adolescents. With the advent of new graphics and newer systems, video games have gotten much more violent. The new Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat: Deception (Capcom ) has modern graphics and bloodier fatalities. However, there are still profiles and explanations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To some, this term merely designates one of the many ethnic groups which can be found in the United States; but to those who are Irish American, it represents a people who faced a disaster of mammoth proportions and who managed to survive at great cost. The Great Hunger of 1845 changed, or more often, destroyed the lives of millions of Irish, causing them to seek refuge from poverty and starvation in other, more prosperous countries. Everything that happened in Ireland during nineteenth century has indeed been overshadowed by the catastrophe which overtook the country between 1845 and 1851. The Irish Potato Famine of 1845 1851 was one of the great catastrophes of the nineteenth century and divides modern Irish history. It was a disaster which poisoned Anglo Irish relations for many generations to come, and had profound effects not only in Ireland itself, but in England and North America as well. Nineteenth century Ireland was the most densely populated country in Europe: in 1800, its population was 4.5 million, and by 1841, it had risen to eight million (Kinealy 15). Yet much of this population existed in condition of sorrow and misery lay in the dependence of the peasantry on just one staple crop, the potato; in western countries like Mayo and Galway, nine tenths of the people ate nothing else (MacManus 602). Here was a disaster waiting to happen, made worst by the rapid rise in population in the first half of the century which forced the peasants to subsist on smaller plots of land (O Grada, The Great Irish Famine 63). ... While Freud had come from the District of Vienna, Adler grew up in the outskirts of the city, and while Freud was known for his vast knowledge, Adler was known for his work for the benefit of the lower class and feminist views. Hanes further points out that little girls that watch the princess movies experience the fantasy and imagination provided by these stories as a typical part of their childhood maturation (Hanes 3). When О© is greater than one, precipitation should occur because the solution is saturated in ions with respect to the solid mineral form. The data show that gypsum should have started precipitating between sample 1 and sample 2 collection time, because this is when the degree of saturation moves to beyond 1. The peak saturation for gypsum occurs between sample 3 and sample 4, and decreases afterwards. This decrease is most likely caused by the decrease in available ions after gypsum continued to precipitate through the experiment, leaving fewer calcium and sulfate ions to contribute to the degree of saturation. Integrating Quotes Into Paper Tips on Introducing Quotes General Principles Writers use quotations for a variety of purposes: to argue with another author s definition of a term, to provide statistical evidence or testimony to validate a claim; to present the reader with a statement we wish to refute or discuss in detail. If writers overdo and include too many quotations in a research essay, readers will form the negative impression that the authors of those sources are more authoritative than the writer of the research paper. During the Beltane rites the high priest or priestess will enact the fertility rite by inserting the athame (which represents the horned god) into the chalice (which represents the mother goddess). This is a form of sympathetic magick where we enact a bigger picture with our own ritual tools. Before i did the research i honestly thought the great rite had Something to do with sex. While it does indeed have to do with sex its much more about fertility. I now know that the great rite has everything to do with praying to the gods through ritual. The issue of genderequality in society and marriage is brought out before the play even begins. Since the 1930s, the injustice towards black men and woman has not improved. In the United States, over 2,3 million people are incarcerated and one third black babies will be incarcerated, (Stevenson, P.15). To change this, we need to implement change now. Our society needs to change before the next Tom Robinson is sentenced without a fair trial. The town of Maycomb was the standard for treatment of Negros in the 1930s. An example of discrimination Negros faced in To Kill a Mockingbird, was when Mr. Radley made the assumption a black person was sneaking around in this yard. Miss Stephanie said that, Shot in the air. Scared him pale, though. Says if anybody sees a white nigger around, that s the one (Lee, P.54). This shows how Mr. Radley assumed only a Negro would sneak into his yard. Even Atticus s family displays prejudice towards Atticus, I guess it ain t your fault if uncle Atticus is a nigger lover besides, but I m here to tell you it certainly does mortify the family (Lee, P.83). If you could collect on every cigarette and ignore the transportation, marketing, and advertising costs, this comes to over $2 billion on Canadian sales and substantially more from an export tax, and you forego the costs of enforcement and deploy your policing assets elsewhere. One interesting thing to note from such a scheme is that the street price of marijuana stays exactly the same, so the quantity demanded should remain the same as the price is unchanged. However, it s quite likely that the demand for marijuana would change from legalization. We saw that there was a risk in selling marijuana, but since drug laws often target both the buyer and the seller, there is also a risk (albeit smaller) to the consumer interested in buying marijuana. Contrary to popular belief, black holes are not empty holes in space, but rather a massive amount of matter packed into a small area. It predicts that a plentiful compact mass will contort spacetime and create a black hole. The black hole acts like a perfect black body, in the sense that it reflects no light. The area where the nothing can escape is the event horizon. This event horizon has no features that can be detected from close up, and has huge effects on what will happen to the object that crosses it. O Pioneers!(1993) by Willa Cather begins on a blustery winter day, in the town of Hanover, Nebraska, sometime between 1883 and 1890. The narrator introduces four main character: the very young Emil Bergson; his older sister, Alexandra; her friend Carl Linstrum; and a little girl, Marie Shabata. Alexandra s father, John Bergson, is dying. He tells his two oldest sons, Lou and Oscar, that he is leaving the farmland, and all of what he has accomplished, to their sister. Alexandra is a hard working young lady and will do anything to make her father proud. When the drought and depression struck three years later, Alexandra s determination to keep the farm allows her to persevere. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lou and Oscar are married and each of them owns their own farm. Alexandra s farm is still the most prosperous on the entire Divide. Emil is grown up and is leaving the Divide for the State University. Carl Linstrum returns for a long visit after years of being gone. Marie is unhappily married and it becomes very evident that her and Emil are falling in love. This novel measures the influence of an individual against human desires and the forces of nature. For example, Alexandra s relationship with the land summarizes the struggle between human desires and the larger forces than manipulate individuals. This difficult relationship between individuals and society is one of the most dominant themes and is depicted throughout the novel by using setting to reflect the characters. In the first sentence, Cather establishes a sense of symbolism when the narrator states ...the little town of Hanover...was trying not to be blown away (1). Cather is personifying the prairie s existence to help paint a picture of both the beauty and the difficulty of pioneer life. Much of the opening section of the novel focuses itself to a description, and more importantly, to a characterization of the land, setting personified forces and individuals into conflict with each other. In this novel, the forces of nature are so powerful that they overwhelm the settlers. The narrator states this fact when stating, The record of the plow was insignificant, like the feeble scratches on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Analysis Of If By Rudyard Kipling I chose poetry because it usually carries many rhetorical elements and is open to more interpretation. Kipling is successful in achieving this through his poetry because of his experiences and audience. The main audience he is writing to would be his son, but once he circulated his work physically and then eventually onto the Internet, the poem applied to many different people. I chose Kipling s piece in particular because of the emotional bond he distinguished with his audience along with the many interpretations I was able to gain from this piece. Depending on where a person is at in their life maturity wise, they can get different lessons from this piece and I found that very unique about his writing and how he was maximizing the use of his literature. In If, a poem by Rudyard Kipling, he integrates his personal experiences in a parallel structure in order to form an emotional bond to the audience and leave the ending open with multiple interpretations. Kipling s person experiences are constructed to leave a message of maturity for both audiences. Kipling has his poetry set in a parallel structure and left many of the lines open ended for further interpretation. He guides the reader in the right direction of the mature thing to do, however, depending on where a person is at, the audience will take their own route with their personal mindset. Federal Gasoline Tax Abstract Increasing the United States federal gasoline tax is currently a debated issue as a means of curtailing dependency on foreign oil and improving the country s environment. An increases, however, would be regressive and would place another hardship on citizens who already feel as if taxes are too high. Because of the unpopularity of such a tax, nationally elected officials have not seriously floated the plan as means of raising revenue, but it could be used as a means to progressively cut income taxes. Introduction Increasing the federal gasoline tax could reduce carbon emissions, benefit the environment, decrease the current government deficit, and cut our reliance on foreign oil. History In 1932, the first gasoline tax was created and cost consumers one cent per gallon. Over the past 80 years, this tax has constantly increased. Events such as the Korean War in 1951 and the construction of interstate highway systems in 1959 caused the tax to raise to its current level of 18.4 cents per gallon, which is its current rate (Williams, 2005). Revenues collected have been utilized for a variety of purposes. For almost 20 years between 1932 and 1956, taxes collected were allocated to the general fund. The Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 established the Highway Trust Fund, where all monies collected were allocated until 1983 when some funds were placed in a mass transit account. Today, 15.44 cents of every 18.4 cents is allocated to the Highway Transit Fund (Buechner, 2007). Controversy over the federal gasoline tax has always been present, with opposition from the public to every proposed increase. Recently, when discussions arose to use the tax to generate revenue, many public officials recommended suspending recent increases and some argued to suspend the tax in its entirety citing its drain on the economy. These suggestions were not, however, implemented. State Gasoline ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Corporations are much more capable of getting what they want because of their strength in numbers and the influence that they have. Their main goal is to make as much money as they can and as a result, their money has the ability to influence politics. The Supreme Court s ruling allows money to speak. The real reason people are unable to talk others into believing them when they argue on the Income Equality is because not everyone knows the correct definition of Income Inequality. Society is changing a lot, and change can sometimes make it hard to cope with the world around us. Sociological imagination is a lot deeper than just common sense. Author of The Sociological Imagination, C. Wright Mills states, Talking about sociological imagination is what makes us feel more grounded in the face of all these changes (C. Wright Mills). The sociological imagination has two lenses to it, the individual lens, and the society lens. The individual lens deals with personal troubles; Individuals comparing themselves to everyone around them. For example, with the media, we see all these commercials, and ads that portray false ...
