The Amazing New Matte Lipstick
It was starting to be the talk all over the world. Soon teenagers, adults, and all females were talking
about the amazing new matte lipstick. The sophomore in high school wanted to see what it was all
about. The first time she went to kyliecosmetics.com was at a dance competition, where all of the
dancers were talking about and showing each other all of the Kylie Lip Kits they had. On the website
appeared many different shades of lipsticks available for people to purchase and enjoy. As the student
scrolled down the webpage, she was admiring and picking out different shades she wanted to have for
herself. All of her friends were with her, hovering over her giving their input. Soon her mom looked

Congress s Role In US Intelligence Reform
Empowered by its authority over budget funding , Congress came up in 1991 with enhanced formula
to streamline the information flow upon prevalence of extraordinary circumstances affecting vital
interests of the United States 9 The new formula authorized the President to bypass the full quorum of
the congressional intelligence committees, and only notify the Gang of Eight, and any other
congressional leaders he elects to inform. Members of the Gang of Eight include the chairmen and
ranking Members of the two congressional intelligence committees and the House and Senate majority

Essay on Class, Socialization, and Politics
Elections are at the core of the American political system. They are the way we choose our
government, the source of government authority, and a means by which the people can influence
public policy. For most Americans, voting is the only form of political participation. Essential
questions to ask concerning these issues are: Who votes and why? What influences people to become
voters? And what influences how they vote? It is important to approach these issues from a
sociological standpoint addressing such matters as socialization and social stratification.
Socialization is a gradual process that takes place as we grow up. It is the process that aids in
developing attitudes and opinions that allow us get along within a society. These ... Show more

(Introduction to Sociology Pg. 222) Within this class system are three broad overlapping categories: a
working class, a middle class, and an upper class. People are placed within these categories based on
their occupation, income, and wealth. The working class receives the lowest income and fills blue
collar jobs in factories and farms, as well as white collar positions like clerical and secretarial jobs in
offices. The middle class consists of professionals like teachers, engineers, small business people, and
skilled workers. The upper class, often called the elite or ruling class is composed of those who run
our major economic and political institutions and receive the highest earnings for doing so. Class as
reflected in education, income, and occupation, does influence people s attitudes on a variety of issues.
People in the working class tend to be liberal in wanting greater economic equality and more
programs dealing with social welfare. This liberalism on economic issues contrasts strongly with their
ideas on civil liberties. Members of the middle class tend to be more conservative in their economic
views and more liberal on issues such as free speech and respect for civil rights. Therefore, class
attitudes on political questions are both liberal and conservative. The problem with figuring out how
these various characteristics that divide the population influences a person s political behavior is that

The Role Of Male Teachers And Academic And. Behavioral...
Examining Male Teachers and Their Potential to Increase the Academic and Behavioral Performances
of Boys in School Teacher Inquiry Project: A Pilot Study Joe R. De Rieux Pacific University
Spring/Fall 2015
Abstract Elementary education is a field that is abundant with female teachers. The disparity between
the number of male teachers and the number of female teachers is actually increasing and is arguably
as disparate as nearly any field of employment in the American workforce. While this does not
automatically, nor necessarily, mean that having more men in the field will increase academic and
behavioral performance of boys, it is most certainly worth a look. This research study is of the view
that having more males in the teaching workforce does increase some students performance. This is
not because males are better teachers than females. It is seemingly, in part, because there are more and
more boys who are raised by single mothers than ever before and many are missing strong and caring
male role models. It was also found that boys who struggle in school sometimes connect better with
teachers that share the same gender, interests, customs, and more. The purpose of

The hindrance of serum alanine and aspartate aminotransferases (SALT and SAST) by anandamide in

Analysis Of Dorothy Parker s One Perfect Rose
One Perfect Rose, is a short poem from Dorothy Parker s first book of poetry Enough Rope (1926).
Parker cohesively explores two major themes throughout the poem; frustration and disappointment.
The two themes are conveyed in the narrative by the narrator who ultimately outlines a dissatisfaction
with the cliched conventions of romance and courtship. The projection of these themes are outlined
through three dominant modes of discourse which I will be engaging with throughout the literary
commentary; structure, voice and the use of metaphor. The commentary will address these discourses
in relation to an adaptation of the original poem into prose, taking into consideration the implications
of textual adaptation. This textual intervention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the process of adapting the poetic form into prose fiction conceptual complications arise.
Furthermore, in written prose, structure is less symbolic as there are less prior connotations and
conventions associated with a novel s aesthetic structure. Whereas, a poem s form is dictated by the
structure, such as a sonnet form; identified by having fourteen lines of poetry and following a strict
rhyme scheme. In contrast to this, the structure of a novel form is defined through narrative, plot and
setting. Therefore, in adaptation from poetry into prose the significance of structure has to be
substituted by narrative in order to reinstate the same irony which Parker achieves structurally through
her text. The type of irony would also have to be altered in order to fit the adapted text. In the prose
version, verbal irony depicted through the narrative form is the most effective way of reproducing the
irony in the original. Parker s poem, employs situational irony, which is where the actions in a
situation have the opposite effect and consequences from the original intention.
Ambiguous narration and voice is established in the poems inception, as the author states that she had
received a single flow r . The plural nature of the adjective single creates uncertainty around the poem

James And The Giant Peach
Have you ever read James and the Giant Peach as a kid? I have. I was very surprised to find out that it
is on the list for the most banned books in the US. I have read the book many times in my childhood,
and really want others to be able to continue and enjoy it. Many kids have the book read to them
before they even go to school. Many teachers and parents agree that it is not rational to ban the book.
The Giant Peach should stay in schools and libraries! It is a classic book, it teaches many important
life lessons to the young, it is a good read for all ages and lastly, the counterclaims to the book are just
outright absurd.

They say that it is too magical, and it is true that it has many magical elements that do not exist in the
real world. But going from that to calling it satanic? kids can benefit a lot from fantasy fiction,
according to studies, reading fiction helps develop our imagination and creativity, helps us feel
empathy, reduces stress and even helps us lengthen our memories and decrease our chances to getting
mental diseases. There is the claim that the book is too sexual, they get it from this quote, The spider...
ran a long black tongue delicately over her lips In this scene, James thinks that the spider is hungry,
and is going to eat him. (which turns out to be false) It doesn t make sense that a book should get
challenged for a spider licking her lips, it is not a sexual act. Even if it was sexual, which it isn t, kids
wouldn t understand it. Lastly, there is the argument that James is too disobedient, and would provide
a bad role model for kids. The book is teaching kids to get out of an abusive relationship. It might be
hard for kids to hear about an abused kid, but unfortunately, for some kids, it is a reality. And they
should learn to get out of or report abuse. Additionally, James is a great role model, he is brave, smart,
and perseveres through his problems and challenges. The book is an all around great book, the good

Charles Bukowski s Ham On Rye
Adolf Hitler wasn t always accepted and was an outcast when he was younger, which made him want
control of the world. There are literatures where characters express this need. Charles Bukowski s
book Ham on Rye presents the need for acceptance and control through the life of Henry Chinaski.
Every one wants to feel accepted, but most importantly being accepted by their family. Henry
Chinaski isn t accepted by his family and lives a life full of neglect. Henry is constantly getting beat
from his father. The strop landed once again. Then it stopped. I stood and waited. I heard him hanging
up the strop. Next time he said, I don t want to find any hairs (70). Henry s father doesn t appreciate
all of Henry s hard work of cutting the grass. Henry was beat by his father because he missed a few
hairs of grass. Henry s father never appreciates anything that Henry does. He said that he was going to
kill you! He said that no son of his could write like that and live under the same roof with him! (246).
Henry s father doesn t even appreciate what Henry loves. Usually a father supports what their son
loves and helps them accomplish their dream. Father s are typically proud of their children especially
when they have talent like writing. Henry s father see s Henry s writing as a disgrace. The lack of
appreciation from his parents gives Henry the feeling of neglect. We feel the neglect from his parent s
when he mentions, he was a stranger. My mother was non existent. I was

Criticism of Religious Hypocrites in Moliere s Tartuffe...
Criticism of Religious Hypocrites in Tartuffe
Moliere rocked the 17th century French world with his comedy Tartuffe in 1664. Although, religious
factions kept the play banned from theatres from 1664 1669, Tartuffe emerged from the controversy as
one of the all time great comedies. Tartuffe is a convincing religious hypocrite. He is a parasite who is
sucking Orgon, the rich trusting father, for all he is worth. Orgon does not realize that Tartuffe is a
phony, and caters to his every whim. For instance, he reneges on his promise to let his daughter
Mariane, marry Valere. Instead he demands that she wed Tartuffe, whom she despises. He also
banishes his own son, Damis, from his house for speaking out against Tartuffe and ... Show more

If one takes the trouble to examine my comedy in good faith, he will surely see that my intentions are
innocent throughout, and tend in no way to make fun of what men revere; that I have presented the
subject with all the precautions that its delicacy imposes; and that I have used all the art and skill that I
could to distinguish clearly the character of the hypocrite from that of the truly devout man. (Meyer
1509)
The play successfully conveys this message because Tartuffe is a first class villain. He is as
manipulative as Lady Macbeth, as greedy as Prince John, as underhanded as Modred, and as clever as
Darth Vader. Through his every word and deed it becomes more apparent that he is thoroughly bad.
More specifically, he not only wants to marry Orgon s daughter, but wants to defile his wife as well.
He is not satisfied with living off of Orgon s wealth but wants to possess it. At no time in the play does
Tartuffe resemble a truly pious man. The play never mocks God, but only those who use his name to
prey on unsuspecting fools.
The part of the fool is played to the hilt by Orgon. Throughout the first three acts he is such a
domineering idiot that he is not even worth pitying. He, along with his mother, play the part of the
blind zealot. What he chooses to call Christian love leads him to punish his family and himself
because he takes away their freedom of choice and integrity and his own property. But, Orgon is not

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was successful due to the dedication and hard work of the black

would have never made a difference.
According to Reading Like a Historian, the textbook states King and the others called for a black
boycott of the Montgomery bus system. The boycott meant blacks refused to ride the buses. For
months, the buses were almost empty because most of the riders had been black. Then, the boycott
spread to white businesses in downtown Montgomery. .During the 1950 s they believed that white

LIFE, TIME, CBS, NBC, and countless other papers have been down here covering it. I think it is the
first time that a whole Negro community has ever stuck together this way and for so long and I think
they are going to win it. The quote shows how a major variety of white companies are picking up on
the movement by showing that a difference is being made by the boycott and that there are even white
supporters speaking their opinions.
Once again reading like a historian is stating Freedom doesn t come on a silver platter. With every
great movement toward freedom there will inevitably be trials. Somebody will have to have the
courage to sacrifice. You don t get to the Promised Land without going through the Wilderness. You
don t get there without crossing over hills and mountains, but if you keep on keeping on, you can t

on the basics of life like you can t get anywhere without hard work or nothing comes easy but together
people can make a difference in which they did during the Montgomery bus boycott.
Overall the Montgomery Bus Boycott was successful due to the dedication, heart and hard work of the

This portfolio is an investigation into how the median Body Mass Index of a girl will change as she

That can be fixed by adjusting the horizontal phase shift value of _c_ to 12.4 to compensate.
There is also a noticeable discrepancy between the function graph and the scatter plot in the domain
{} and {}. A slight stretch about the y axis would fit the curve closer to the data points in those areas,
therefore the _b_ value should be changed from π/15 to π/14. The number π/14 was chosen because
reducing the denominator s value by 1 will increase the b value by a slight amount, and an increased b
value will shorten period and compress the graph about the y axis, resulting in the values within
domain to be closer to that of the data points.
Making these changes, the revised formula for the sinusoidal function is as follows:
Using TI InterActive!™ to graph that function, overlaid with the original data, and restricting the
graph of the function to the same domain and range as the domain and range on the scatterplot, the

The refined equation fits the data much more closely at the beginning, yet around the Age = 13 mark it

The Contributions Of The Renaissance Period In The 14th...
During the 14th century, Europe experienced famine, disease, death and major changes within the
church and papacy. Kingdoms consolidated and the influence the Pope held over politics waned. Amid
these crises, the people galvanized and made major advancements in what would come to be known as
the Renaissance period.
In 1301 King Philip IV ruled the Holy Roman empire in southern France. He employed civil servants
rather than barons to govern, breaking away from the feudal system that had been in place and leading
the county towards centralized administration. A feud between Phillip and Pope Boniface VII would
lead to the French control of the papacy when the seat of power was moved to Avignon.
After the conviction of a papal legate at the beginning of the century, Pope Boniface VII urged Phillip
to give the Papacy jurisdiction over spiritual rule, espousing the notion that the papacy was meant to
govern kings and that churchmen were to be held accountable to church courts rather than the royal
court. Boniface also asserted that church funds were not to be used for state purposes. This began a
running conflict between the King, who wanted total control, and the pope.
After the death of Boniface s successor, French pope Clement V was elected. Clement decided to
remain in France and held court in Avignon. Seven French popes reigned there until pope Gregory XI
finally returned to Rome.
The tension between the papacy and the kings of England and France was a recurrent theme

Future Plans and Opportunities
Within the next five years of the company, we are putting forth a plan to achieve a catering
department. We want to be able to provide the planning and set up of the events that we offer, as well
as the food for our clients. Our plan is to lease a kitchen facility big enough to house our staff and
store our products while working out of the kitchen. During this five year goal, we plan on opening a
second branch in the Chicago Illinois area, while having our branch in Erie, PA still running.
Industry Analysis
The events industry is an ever growing part of the hospitality world. There is a bigger need for the
attention to detail than most people will think about, and event planners are trained to think about
these issues. Event planners have to be able to handle budgets that the clients will set for them while
still maintaining a high quality of service. The events industry is an ever growing business. There is
always something new that people will want and request at their parties. There is a big need for tight
budgets within the economy as well as some weddings that will be very extravagant.
Future Trends
Once our catering department is added to our company, we will start to look at the trends that the food
industry is currently providing. These trends will include things such as healthier options for courses
as well as smaller portions. These small portions will control the amount of food a person is advised to
eat, but we

Absolute Dualism In The Twelfth Century
In the twelfth century the Catholic Church was challenged by the most serious and widespread
heretical movements of that time; Catharism. With a coherent body of belief and an organization
behind it, it became the symbol of a counter church . It grew slowly, but took a firm hold in Langedoc.
In the early 13th century followers of Catharism believed in a version of it known as absolute dualism.
Absolute dualism if the belief that there are two Gods without beginning and without end, one good,
the other, wholly evil. Absolute dualists believe that each God created angels, and that the good God is
almighty in the heavenly home and the evil one rules in all this worldly structure. They explain that

Catharism arrived in Southern France and Northern Italy in the eleventh century. In Languedoc,
Catharism was endorsed by local nobility and became a popular alternative to the Catholic Church. In
the coming years Louis VII of France and others used forceful intervention to try and stamp out the
New Church, and systematically eliminated any existing Cathars. By the year 1179, Catharism was
denounced. The Cathars believed in one sacrament, the Consolamentum, which is a ceremony to
remove all sin from the believer and to induct him or her into the next higher level as a Perfect. This
differed from the Roman Catholic sacrament of Penance, as the Consolamentum could be taken only
once. The Cathars refused the Catholic Sacrament of the eucharist, believing that it could not possibly
be the body of Christ. They refused to partake in the practice of Baptism by water, believing that the
water is material and corruptible and is therefore the creation of the evil power, ad cannot sanctify the
spirit. Catharism was revolutionary in their religious thinking and therefore has an extremely

How Is Bernard Presented In Brave New World
Huxley uses contrast to reveal distinctive features of a character. In his famous novel, Brave New
World, the protagonist, Bernard Marx, is revealed to the reader through various contrasting characters.
Bernard is an atypical Alpha Plus male in the Society. For example, he is physically different from
Helmholtz Watson and Henry Foster; he and Helmholtz also contrast personality wise; and the
Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning (the DHC) is not only the professional foil of Bernard, but
also has a different mindset than him.

Identity as a Name in The Importance of Being Earnest
Wilde uses Gwendolen s and Cecily s obviously superficial affection towards each other to again
accentuate and criticize the importance that the Victorian s placed on an individual s name. The
practice of naming others as a means to display one s own dominance is satirized by the irony in the
argument between the two young ladies. The audience detects that they are undoubtedly fighting over
Ernest as well as superiority, but their true feelings are ironically hidden (rather poorly) under fake
earnestness. Garland states that, both women attempt to define the existence of their opponent through
rapidly shifting expression of Identity (272), and cause a quiet fire in the atmosphere of the scene.
Since their fight is so indirect and blatantly petty, Wilde is able to comically criticize females of
victorian society that are represented by Gwendolen and Cecily. Gwendolen and Cecily are both
fixated on the name Ernest because the superficial society surrounding them unconsciously causes
them to gravitate towards men that they believe have earnest dispositions. Gwendolen asserts her
fondness of the name Ernest declaring, my ideal has always been to love some one of the name of
Ernest. There is something in that name that inspires absolute confidence (Wilde 980). Cecily also
admires the name Ernest and makes a statement almost identical to Gwendolen s when she admits, it
had always been a girlish dream of mine to love someone whose name was Ernest. There is something

Ashley Merryman Losing Is Good For You Analysis
In Losing is Good for You , Ashley Merryman instills the idea that society celebrates the essence of
success that children achieve in any aspect of their life whether they deserve it or not. Merryman
further explains that by celebrating success or, more importantly, the idea that every child is a winner,
society takes away the fundamental ideas of hard work. Merryman states that as society limits the
opportunity for children to experience failure, this leads to the destruction of the core beliefs of what
is the true meaning of winning is and undermines overall determination, and it lowers the desire for
children to work hard. Overall, I support Merryman s claim that society rewards all participants
despite their qualifications to hold the title of a winner . Today the term winner has become a cliché
where people have driven the idea of success to the brink of extinction. Meaning, that society has over
produced the idea of a winner to the extent that some other title would have to replace the phrase
Congratulations, you are a winner . Personally, I believe that Merryman demonstrates the effect that as
children are constantly provided trophies, certificates, and other methods of reward, each of these
materials tend to tamper with the foundation of the meaning of being a true victor. Merryman states
that, nonstop recognition does not inspire children to succeed. Instead it causes them to under achieve;
with this statement, Merryman shows the key idea that as children

Essay On Back Taxes
The IRS will not prosecute individuals who voluntarily contact them to file their back taxes. However,
if the IRS locates you first, before you can file, individuals can receive different punishments, the
most extreme being one year in prison, as well as ten thousand dollars for every unfilled year. Though
there is not enough room in prisons to jail everyone who has unfilled back taxes, there are many other
punishments individuals can be subjected to. Below is information on why you need to file your back
taxes with the IRS despite the filing being late, and how you are able to file unpaid back taxes. With

Once you speak to the IRS and either pay in full or start a settlement agreement, the IRS will
document that you are in positive standing with them, and this is a very good thing. How to file your
back taxes Gather important information. When needing to file old returns, find all documentations
that correspond to it. This would include 1099 tax documentations and old W 2s. if you are unable to
locate these documents, you are able to inquire with the business where you received them, for copies.
If the business no longer has copies of these documents on file for you, then phone the IRS and ask for
your income data for any missing years. It is very possible the IRS will be able to provide this
information, because every business is required to report the information directly to the IRS. But what
if the IRS is not able to locate that information? Then you simply fill out a form 4852. This is a
substitute W 2 form that approximates the amount of the W 2 for the needed years. Prepare all your
tax forms. Every year has a corresponding tax form and you will have to acquire them to fill out. The
IRS often requires that you file tax returns for the previous six years of missing tax return, as well as
the current year. If they require that you file tax returns that are more than six years old, you are able
to locate these forms on the official IRS website or a tax resolution firm. To reduce total tax liabilities,

I was raised and I think it probably was a cause and effect correlation here in a very Puritan home and
there were very few hugs and kisses in my home. No education or conversation about sex. I grew up

wealth, separate from the income earned from a salaried job. Regardless of whether an individual has
$10,000 or $1 million, there are opportunities to invest in a range of sources where returns on

sources like Gold or recent popular stocks such as Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. In those cases
the returns were ten fold and the original investors believe in the success of the product in the long

The most obvious problem with detecting is no one in a part of the scheme is willing to do due
diligence and internal reporting. The values of a company are an important indicator of the practices
which benefits all participants as a whole(shareholders, employees, public). Companies that promote
Corporate Social Responsibility believe that disclosure and transparency are just as important as
profits. Firms that stake a claim in CSR view their responsibilities as extending to a wide variety of
disclosures and social reporting (e.g., the triple bottom line social, environmental, and financial;
Council on Economic Priorities[...] (Laufer, 2010). The willingness of a company in disclosing
financial information and reporting, helps shareholders as well as regulators determine whether or not
there is illegal activity within the company. There can be a growing trust of financial institutions from
shareholders, regulators and the public if more companies practice corporate social responsibility on a
consistent basis. For example, if Bernie Madoff had to disclose all of his reports to investors and

What Is The Purpose Of The Seven Samurai
Akira Kurosawa s The Seven Samurai (1954) is not only a great film in its own right, but the source of
a genre that would flow through the rest of the century. The critic Michael Jeck suggests that this was
the first film in which a team is assembled to carry out a mission an idea which gave birth to its direct
Hollywood remake, The Magnificent Seven, as well as The Guns of Navarone. The Dirty Dozen, and
countless later war, heist and caper movies. Since Kurosawa s samurai adventure Yojimbo (1960) was
remade as A Fistful of Dollars and essentially created the spaghetti Western, and since this movie and
Kurosawa s The Hidden Fortress inspired George Lucas Star Wars series, it could be argued that this
greatest of filmmakers gave employment to action heroes for the next 50 years, just as a fallout from
his primary purpose.
That purpose was to make a samurai movie that was anchored in ancient Japanese culture, and yet
argued for a flexible humanism in place of rigid traditions. One of the central truths of The Seven
Samurai is that the samurai and the villagers who hire them are of different castes, and must never
mix. Indeed, we learn that these villagers had earlier been hostile to samurai and one of them, even
now, hysterically fears that a samurai will make off with his daughter. Yet the bandits represent a
greater threat, and so the samurai are hired, valued and resented in about equal measure.
Why do they take the job? Why, for a handful of rice

Katniss Idea Of Freedom In The Hunger Games
Freedom is something often taken for granted. There is a certain level of comfort people have with the
freedoms they have been given. Eventually, people stop thinking about how much of a gift freedom
really is. The concept of freedom means something different to different people. Epictetus describes
his version of freedom well with this quote. Is freedom anything else than the right to live as we wish?
Nothing else. This captures the meaning of freedom by describing how freedom has no one definition

When twelve Genoese ships arrived in 1347 Messina, Sicily, barely any of the crew were alive. They
were sickly looking and covered in black boils. Quickly, the ships were sent off but it was too late.
Within a few days, the disease started affecting the town, making the Black Death s first of many
appearances in Europe (Martin 12). The Bubonic plague, known as the Black Death, was a disease
that devastated the Western World in late 1347. The disease originated in eastern Asia but was spread
by rat infested ships traveling along trade routes. The people of Europe had never been exposed to the

The abundance of fleas and rats combined with the ability for the disease to become airborne allowed
for rapid spreading, large outbreaks, and high mortality rates. When the Black Plague arrived, Europe
was already in a state of distress. Europe s population had grown so large that it was becoming
difficult to sustain the population. They converted all available land to cereal production to produce
the basic need of bread, but they remained one bad harvest or natural disaster away from death. At the
time, the climate was going through a cold phase. This left Europe with harsh winters and wet
summers allowing for many failed harvests leading to significant famines and deaths (Naphy Spicer

through Europe. The Plague would slow down during the winter months then regained its fierce
momentum during the summer months as it made its way through the Western World, traveling by
ships and arriving in ports. When the people of Messina first started becoming infected with the
plague, some of them fled to Catania. These immigrants unknowingly brought the plague with them
and the people of Catania began falling ill. Catania imposed quarantine laws, regulations on
immigrants, and buried their dead outside the city walls, but none of it made a difference as hundreds
of people began dying here as well

Why I Want To Be A Death Metal Argumentative Essay
Death metal is an extreme subgenre of music relating to heavy metal.. It is heavily distorted and low
tuned guitars, sung with deep growling vocals and screams, minor keys, abrupt tempo, key, and time
signature changes and chromatic chord progressions. The lyrical themes of death metal are often
slasher violence religion (sometimes Satanism), occultism, horror, nature, mythology, philosophy, and
politics, and they may mention extreme acts such as mutilation, dissection, torture, rape, cannibalism,
and necrophilia. And most, if not all death metal bands tend to cause a lot of controversy.
The death metal band from New York called Cannibal Corpse is as all American as it gets: They test
the limits of free speech by pushing the boundaries as far as they can get, and for decades have lived
their own American dream, living off the pay from the hardest way to make a living, a heavy/death

Elephants can walk up to forty miles in the wild, but hardly get enough exercise to keep them alive in
circuses and zoos. They are forced to sleep and walk on concrete floors and are often on train cars
most of their life. This can cause arthritis, foot abscesses, and other foot and joint dangers.
The average lifespan of a wild elephant is anywhere from sixty to seventy years old. Because of
chronic health problems such as tuberculosis, arthritis, and foot abscesses, captive elephants are lucky
if they live forty years. The oldest captive elephant, Peaches, died at the age of fifty five in 2005 at the

Essay on analysis of SDB
1.0 Abstract
This report aims to provide an analysis of a proposed investment in Shenzhen Development Bank
(SDB) by Newbridge in 2002 and assess whether the P/B ratio of 1.6 for Newbridge to pay for its 18%
stake in SDB is appropriate. The analysis of Newbridge s acquisition of SDB s stocks is based on
several aspects of SDB s asset quality, earnings capability and capital adequacy. According to price to
book ratio of SDB s industry peers and some acquisition precedents by foreign investors, Newbridge
made a correct decision that it paid 1.6 times book value of SDB s stake on a basis of SDB s
performance. This is because of SDB s high P/B ratio and low ROE indicating that SDB s share price

3.3 Capital adequacy
In commercial banking, capital adequacy ratio (CAR) is used to monitor a bank s situation of
capitalization by regulators and managers. CAR is calculated as the sum of tier 1 capital (equity and
retained earnings) and tier 2 capital (subordinated debt and reserves) and dividing it by its risk
weighted assets. SDB s CAR decreased from 10.6% in December 2001 to 9.5% in December in 2002,
but still above the Chinese regulatory floor of 8%. It is particularly worth mentioning here that SBD s

Fruits and vegetables are often credited as powerful performance enhancers that are completely
natural and help people increase their performance levels. Beetroot is among those natural ingredients
that are packed with power. According to many researchers, Beetroot juice can act as a serious energy

Beetroot juice is a low cost solution that triggers the body into action. It produces nitric oxide in the
body which causes vasodilation. This allows the body to get more blood to the muscles therefore
increasing the athletic performance. Some experts also suggest that it improves the function of

Light In Beowulf
Beowulf is a great book to read if you are interested in the differences between dark and light inside of
you. The purpose of the book really tells you about how you can defeat the evil and use good in a
good way to help others. As of Beowulf he used his weaknesses from evil and overcame them for
good. So what the statement of the book is to really tell you that you should use good and defeat evil
or darkness. For example, Quite so, said Wealhtheow. He admits his weaknesses and in admitting
them they become strengths. This is no usual hero. page.29 As Beowulf had made the best of all he

Capital City Of Maharashtra
Abstract:
Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra, experienced unprecedented floods on 26th and 27th July
2005 bringing the entire city to standstill for two days. In span of 24 hours the Santa Cruz observatory
at Mumbai airport recorded 944 mm of rain, which is highest recorded data for city in a day. The flood
caused direct economic damages of about $2 billion and over 500 fatalities. The flood also caused
several infrastructural damages, over 2,000 buildings were completely destroyed and 50,000 were
partially damaged, around 40,000 auto rickshaws and taxis were spoiled, several thousand trucks and
850 BEST buses were damaged and local train and railway network of the city was also affected. The
main cause behind such a huge loss was over population and rapid urbanization. Mumbai, along with
its neighbouring suburbs is the world s sixth most populated metropolitan area with the population of
around 19 million (MMRDA, 2003). The average population density is 27,209 persons per km2 .Due
to the lack of availability of safe land the economically backward people live in slums which are low
lying and flood prone. Thus the maximum loss due to the flood was barred by the people living in
these low lying slums. The purpose of this research is to calculate the economic loss to the self
employed people and the people with micro enterprise living in these slums.

Latent Fingerprint Ageing
The ageing of a latent fingerprint correlates to the changes in the initial composition over time, caused
by chemical, biological and physical factors. Changes to the initial composition over time involve
processes such drying, evaporation, oxidation metabolism, polymerisation and degradation
[Weyermann Ribaux 2012]. The understanding of the ageing process and the resulting by products
and/or new compounds is critical in determining the age of a latent fingerprint. Even though the idea
of determining the absolute or relative age of fingerprints has been around for some time, a limited
number of studies in this area have been published [Archer et al. 2005; Popa, Potorac Preda 2010;
Weyermann et al. 2010].

Great Performances Of Media Do Not Always Have On Involve...
Great performances in media do not always have to involve theatrical acrobatics. An actor s range or
displays of genuine, emotional depth are necessary to build a character that is alive and multi faceted.
But, an actor s ability to encapsulate a narrative within one s own character is what is truly a display of
an artist. Poetry has a phrase to describe the use of as few words as possible to encompass vast terrain
of depth called the economy of language. Actors may not know it, but they operate on very similar

Soul and Reincarnation
Misty Yarbrough My life often seemed to me like a story that has no beginning and no end. I had the
feeling that I was an historical fragment, an excerpt for which the preceding and succeeding text was
missing. I could well imagine that I might have lived in former centuries and there encountered
questions I was not yet able to answer; that I had been born again because I had not fulfilled the task
given to me. —Carl Jung. Reincarnation is the belief that when one dies, one s body decomposes, but
one is reborn in another body. It is the belief that one has lived before and will live again in another
body after death. Carl Jung is one of the thousands of people that believe reincarnation is possible.
However, the bodies one passes in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Greek writer Diordus Siculus (c. 60 BC 30 AD) noted that the Druids believed the souls of men
are immortal, and that after a definite number of years they live a second life when the soul passes to
another body. The Greek philosopher Strabo (c. 63 BC 21 AD) observed the Druids believed that men
s souls and the universe are indestructible, although at times fire and water may prevail. Even Julius
Caesar wrote of the Celts They wish to inculcate this as one of their leading tenets, that souls do not
become extinct, but pass after death from one body to another, and they think that men by this tenet
are in a great degree stimulated to valor, the fear of death being disregarded. Elsewhere Caesar
complained the Druids were a troublesome people. They were difficult to destroy. There is little
evidence of reincarnation among the early Hebrew people but it later became a part of the Kabbalistic
teaching. The teaching occurred among the early Christians, especially the Gnostics, Manichaeans,
and the Carthari, but was later repudiated by orthodox Christian theologians. When asked by college
students why Christianity does not teach reincarnation Patricia Crowther, a witch, answered, ...The
early Christians taught it (reincarnation), and this can be proved by the words of Saint Gregory,

Jefferson s time as governor showed a low point in his political career. As his career as governor
progressed along with the revolutionary war into the south, Jefferson had an idea of moving the capital
to Richmond. When moving the capital they were forced to leave because that ended up being the
target of the British attack. Just days before the end of his career as governor, Jefferson was forced to
leave his house to avoid a capture from British cavalry. As this was taking place Jefferson had stated,
When a man assumes a public trust, he should consider himself as public property. Jefferson didn t run

Higher Education in Saudi Aberia
This research paper introduces, analyzes and evaluates the situation of higher education in Saudi
Arabia in terms of the past, present and future. Both the past form and the present situation have their
strong sides and weakness. Since education is very important for a country s future, it is helpful to
know what essences a good education system should have, how education contributes to a country s
power, and what improvements need to be made to make education better serve the development of
Saudi Arabia.
Introduction
Higher education is an important, if not the most important aspect, in a country s functions and
abilities to fulfill current national needs and strive for a brighter future. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
was established in 1932. It was a poor country initially, with a small educational system comprising of
only 12 schools and 700 students. Situation changed after 1938, when large amount of oil was
discovered underground in Saudi Arabia. The kingdom became quite wealthy, leading to the
accelerating development of this country s educational system as well. Understanding the historical
development of higher education in Saudi Arabia, evaluating the strength and weakness in different
times, and knowing what an effective educational system should be are helpful in improving the level
of higher education in Saudi Arabia, which is necessary for this country to constantly enhance its
power in global competitions and keep a strong standing in the world.

century. His contribution to Soviet Russia was immense through his practice of Marxist and Trotskyist
theory for Russia and the world. His rise to prominence in the Soviet Union was characterized by his
work and partnership with Lenin. Trotsky s most significant accomplishments included his leadership
of the Red Army and success in the February Revolution, which consolidated Bolshevik power.

Ultimately, this had brought together two revolutionary leaders, committed to the overthrow of
capitalism (Christian) and the Tsarist autocracy in Russia. This partnership between Lenin and Trotsky
was imperative, as Lenin had viewed Trotsky as a valuable and vital asset to the revolution, where his
leadership, talent and ability would play a major role. Trotsky s involvement in the 1917 revolution
was of utmost significance to Bolshevik success. With Lenin in exile in Finland, Trotsky became the
public face of Bolshevism. Trotsky s leadership of the Soviet demonstrated his distinct skills, which
became essential to the success of the revolution. His formation, recruiting, disciplining and arming of
the Red Guard became a significant factor to the movement. It had amassed to over 200,000 militants
by October. Additionally Trotsky s arranging of the Soviet, placing Bolshevik delegates in power,
allowed the Bolsheviks to organize the Military Revolutionary committee. Isaac Deutscher commends
Trotsky for his brilliant Military organization and leadership of the revolution. Furthermore, he
recognizes Trotsky as the key to the success of the revolution as Lenin was in exile. However, from

Millette s military career was cut short, but he s taken on a new mission, and that s sharing his story

Unusual Languages of the World
Jenn Beckmann
Part 1
2. Define pidgin and creole and explain the difference between them.
Pidgins and creoles are both languages that occur when two people of different languages are
communicating (p.232). In order to define a pidgin, it is important to look at the process in which a
pidgin develops. When contact between speakers of two different languages occurs and they begin to
create ways of communication through words and phrases, pre pidgin is developing. A pidgin
develops as a new language when the original group or several groups of people begin using the pre
pidgin to communicate as the common language. The pidgin is then being used as the lingua franca (p.
233). Depending on the use of the language, there is also a restricted pidgin and expanded pidgin.
Restricted pidgin is only used when necessary for communication and typically has small vocabulary
and little grammar. Expanded pidgin is a pidgin that is used everyday and in different entities such as
religion or the government. This type of pidgin has an expanded vocabulary and grammar. On the
other hand, a creole is a pidgin that children learn and use as their first language. With children learn
the language as their first, it will expand to community usage. Gramatics are much more complex in a
creole as is the vocabulary of the language (p.234). There are differences between a pidgin and creole
that can be defined. A pidgin is spoken between people of different languages with less vocabulary

How Is Victoria Woodhull Blood Martin Successful
Victoria Claflin Woodhull Blood Martin, Victoria Woodhull for short, started out as a young girl with
very little, who wanted much. She is most well known for being the first woman to ever run for
President of the United States of America. As well as being a Presidential canidate for the 1872
election, she was also a women s rights leader, a businesswoman, and a medium. She lived a very
controversial life, from being the breadwinner of her family, to being thrown in jail. She was a radical
reformer, she believed in self governing, and that all women have the right to choose what s best for
them, and in some cases, if that meant being a prostitute, then that was perfectly fine. Victoria was a
fire cracker. She became very involved in everything she believed in. In this paper I intend to
summarize breifly the life of Victoria Woodhull, while also discussing her views on self governing, the
impact she made on the women s suffrage movement, and also the obstacles she encountered through
this turmoilous journey.
Victoria Claflin was born September 23, 1838 in Homer, Ohio. She was the daughter of Buck Claflin
and Anna Claflin. In her later years she had painted her childhood as white picket fence, perfect home,
but, in reality it was far from it. Her dad was the town s crook, and her mother was looked at
differently because of her ability to speak with spirits, a talent that Victoria found she also had. From a
young age she possessed great leadership skills. Her nickname was the

Lipsitzky Essay
El Lissitzky s real name was Lazar Markovich Lissitzky. He was born in Russia on November 23,
1890, in Pochinok, Russian Empire. He was a Russian artist, designer, typographer, photographer and
architect in the early 20th century. In 1905, he started to draw and paint, being influenced by the
Russian Painter, Mikhail Vrubel. Lissitzky s father did not believe that the government in Russia
would lead to a good future for him and his family so he decided that he would travel to America by
himself to find a stable job and settle down before bringing over wife and son. However, a year later
when he tried to bring them to America, Lissitzkys mother refused to leave Vitebsk. Lissitzky would
spend much of his childhood in the small town before going off to live with his grandparents.

Suprematism is the simple geometric shapes associated with an idea, developed in the Russian abstract
art movement. Lissitzky used geometric forms to design some artwork for the Soviet Union. He
helped develop suprematism with his friend and mentor, Azimir Malevich.
Constructivism is an early 20th century movement in Russia. Movements in objects are combined into
basic forms. It has influenced many pieces of modern architecture and design. Lissitzky was working
on a very important part to spread a Constructivism program beyond Russia. He spent time in Berlin
during the early 1920s because he was responsible for moving the movement to Germany. And then
from Germany, this program spread into other places, including the Untied States.
In 1923, he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and his health declined. He was not allowed to travel out
of the country; however, it did not stop him from working on his design posters, publication books,
architectural design projects, art direction, and artwork for the Soviet Union.

Oklahoma City Bombing Rhetorical Analysis Bill Clinton Essay
Oklahoma City Bombing Rhetorical Analysis The Oklahoma City Bombing would be considered the
worst terrorist attack on America prior to the 9/11 World Trade Center attack. Just outside of the
Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, on April 19th, 1995 a truck exploded, killing 168 people. 19 of
those 168 being children. The explosion caused damage to 300 surrounding buildings. Oklahoma City
was going through a tragedy and needed guidance from a leader.
Who would be a better option to comfort the families and friends of the lost victim, than the current
president of America, Bill Clinton, who had once resided in Oklahoma himself? Oklahoma City
needed someone to soothe their pain and give them back their lost hope. Clinton uses rhetorical ...

Today our nation joins with you in grief. We mourn with you. We share your hope against hope that
some may still survive. In this statement, he is using a pathos appeal to make his audience feel one
with their nation by their shared emotions of remorse and sadness, Oklahoma is not the only state that
is grieving. America has lost many sons and daughters. By using the words grief and mourn Clinton
shows how tragic and emotional the current event is and shows that he can interpret and understand
exactly what his audience is going through. Clinton reminds them that he will be there for them for
every step of the difficult process.
Another way Clinton uses pathos is when he tries to comfort the people who have lost loved ones by
saying, You have lost too much, but you have not lost everything. Clinton lets the audience know that
they have people that will help them through this hard time and they have the nation behind them: You
have certainly not lost America, for we will stand with you for as many tomorrows as it takes. Clinton
ultimately reaches his goal of comforting his audience by using ethos and pathos strategies throughout
his speech. Clinton s next move was to give advice from someone who had been in a similar situation.
Referring to the letters he received after the bombing, Clinton explains that one letter in particular
stood out. Clinton gives words of wisdom from a widowed

Congress s Role In US Intelligence Reform Empowered by its authority over budget funding , Congress came up in 1991 with enhanced formula to streamline the information flow upon prevalence of extraordinary circumstances affecting vital interests of the United States 9 The new formula authorized the President to bypass the full quorum of the congressional intelligence committees, and only notify the Gang of Eight, and any other congressional leaders he elects to inform. Members of the Gang of Eight include the chairmen and ranking Members of the two congressional intelligence committees and the House and Senate majority and minority leadership 10 (Erwin 2013, 1). Issues pertaining to Intelligence oversight are intricate ; complicated at best and confusing at worst . By the virtue of its very nature , intelligence and open scrutiny do not mix although that is what Congress is mandated to do . • 4. Essay on Class, Socialization, and Politics Elections are at the core of the American political system. They are the way we choose our government, the source of government authority, and a means by which the people can influence public policy. For most Americans, voting is the only form of political participation. Essential questions to ask concerning these issues are: Who votes and why? What influences people to become voters? And what influences how they vote? It is important to approach these issues from a sociological standpoint addressing such matters as socialization and social stratification. Socialization is a gradual process that takes place as we grow up. It is the process that aids in developing attitudes and opinions that allow us get along within a society. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Introduction to Sociology Pg. 222) Within this class system are three broad overlapping categories: a working class, a middle class, and an upper class. People are placed within these categories based on their occupation, income, and wealth. The working class receives the lowest income and fills blue collar jobs in factories and farms, as well as white collar positions like clerical and secretarial jobs in offices. The middle class consists of professionals like teachers, engineers, small business people, and skilled workers. The upper class, often called the elite or ruling class is composed of those who run our major economic and political institutions and receive the highest earnings for doing so. Class as reflected in education, income, and occupation, does influence people s attitudes on a variety of issues. People in the working class tend to be liberal in wanting greater economic equality and more programs dealing with social welfare. This liberalism on economic issues contrasts strongly with their ideas on civil liberties. Members of the middle class tend to be more conservative in their economic views and more liberal on issues such as free speech and respect for civil rights. Therefore, class attitudes on political questions are both liberal and conservative. The problem with figuring out how these various characteristics that divide the population influences a person s political behavior is that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Role Of Male Teachers And Academic And. Behavioral... Examining Male Teachers and Their Potential to Increase the Academic and Behavioral Performances of Boys in School Teacher Inquiry Project: A Pilot Study Joe R. De Rieux Pacific University Spring/Fall 2015 Abstract Elementary education is a field that is abundant with female teachers. The disparity between the number of male teachers and the number of female teachers is actually increasing and is arguably as disparate as nearly any field of employment in the American workforce. While this does not automatically, nor necessarily, mean that having more men in the field will increase academic and behavioral performance of boys, it is most certainly worth a look. This research study is of the view that having more males in the teaching workforce does increase some students performance. This is not because males are better teachers than females. It is seemingly, in part, because there are more and more boys who are raised by single mothers than ever before and many are missing strong and caring male role models. It was also found that boys who struggle in school sometimes connect better with teachers that share the same gender, interests, customs, and more. The purpose of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Analysis Of Dorothy Parker s One Perfect Rose One Perfect Rose, is a short poem from Dorothy Parker s first book of poetry Enough Rope (1926). Parker cohesively explores two major themes throughout the poem; frustration and disappointment. The two themes are conveyed in the narrative by the narrator who ultimately outlines a dissatisfaction with the cliched conventions of romance and courtship. The projection of these themes are outlined through three dominant modes of discourse which I will be engaging with throughout the literary commentary; structure, voice and the use of metaphor. The commentary will address these discourses in relation to an adaptation of the original poem into prose, taking into consideration the implications of textual adaptation. This textual intervention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in the process of adapting the poetic form into prose fiction conceptual complications arise. Furthermore, in written prose, structure is less symbolic as there are less prior connotations and conventions associated with a novel s aesthetic structure. Whereas, a poem s form is dictated by the structure, such as a sonnet form; identified by having fourteen lines of poetry and following a strict rhyme scheme. In contrast to this, the structure of a novel form is defined through narrative, plot and setting. Therefore, in adaptation from poetry into prose the significance of structure has to be substituted by narrative in order to reinstate the same irony which Parker achieves structurally through her text. The type of irony would also have to be altered in order to fit the adapted text. In the prose version, verbal irony depicted through the narrative form is the most effective way of reproducing the irony in the original. Parker s poem, employs situational irony, which is where the actions in a situation have the opposite effect and consequences from the original intention. Ambiguous narration and voice is established in the poems inception, as the author states that she had received a single flow r . I have read the book many times in my childhood, and really want others to be able to continue and enjoy it. Many kids have the book read to them before they even go to school. Many teachers and parents agree that it is not rational to ban the book. The Giant Peach should stay in schools and libraries! It is a classic book, it teaches many important life lessons to the young, it is a good read for all ages and lastly, the counterclaims to the book are just outright absurd. They say that it is too magical, and it is true that it has many magical elements that do not exist in the real world. But going from that to calling it satanic? kids can benefit a lot from fantasy fiction, according to studies, reading fiction helps develop our imagination and creativity, helps us feel empathy, reduces stress and even helps us lengthen our memories and decrease our chances to getting mental diseases. There is the claim that the book is too sexual, they get it from this quote, The spider... ran a long black tongue delicately over her lips In this scene, James thinks that the spider is hungry, and is going to eat him. (which turns out to be false) It doesn t make sense that a book should get challenged for a spider licking her lips, it is not a sexual act. Even if it was sexual, which it isn t, kids wouldn t understand it. Lastly, there is the argument that James is too disobedient, and would provide a bad role model for kids. The book is teaching kids to get out of an abusive relationship. It might be hard for kids to hear about an abused kid, but unfortunately, for some kids, it is a reality. There are literatures where characters express this need. Charles Bukowski s book Ham on Rye presents the need for acceptance and control through the life of Henry Chinaski. Every one wants to feel accepted, but most importantly being accepted by their family. Henry Chinaski isn t accepted by his family and lives a life full of neglect. Henry is constantly getting beat from his father. The strop landed once again. Then it stopped. I stood and waited. I heard him hanging up the strop. Next time he said, I don t want to find any hairs (70). Henry s father doesn t appreciate all of Henry s hard work of cutting the grass. Henry was beat by his father because he missed a few hairs of grass. Henry s father never appreciates anything that Henry does. He said that he was going to kill you! He said that no son of his could write like that and live under the same roof with him! (246). Henry s father doesn t even appreciate what Henry loves. Usually a father supports what their son loves and helps them accomplish their dream. Father s are typically proud of their children especially when they have talent like writing. • 11. Criticism of Religious Hypocrites in Moliere s Tartuffe... Criticism of Religious Hypocrites in Tartuffe Moliere rocked the 17th century French world with his comedy Tartuffe in 1664. Although, religious factions kept the play banned from theatres from 1664 1669, Tartuffe emerged from the controversy as one of the all time great comedies. Tartuffe is a convincing religious hypocrite. He is a parasite who is sucking Orgon, the rich trusting father, for all he is worth. Orgon does not realize that Tartuffe is a phony, and caters to his every whim. For instance, he reneges on his promise to let his daughter Mariane, marry Valere. Instead he demands that she wed Tartuffe, whom she despises. He also banishes his own son, Damis, from his house for speaking out against Tartuffe and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If one takes the trouble to examine my comedy in good faith, he will surely see that my intentions are innocent throughout, and tend in no way to make fun of what men revere; that I have presented the subject with all the precautions that its delicacy imposes; and that I have used all the art and skill that I could to distinguish clearly the character of the hypocrite from that of the truly devout man. (Meyer 1509) The play successfully conveys this message because Tartuffe is a first class villain. He is as manipulative as Lady Macbeth, as greedy as Prince John, as underhanded as Modred, and as clever as Darth Vader. Through his every word and deed it becomes more apparent that he is thoroughly bad. More specifically, he not only wants to marry Orgon s daughter, but wants to defile his wife as well. He is not satisfied with living off of Orgon s wealth but wants to possess it. At no time in the play does Tartuffe resemble a truly pious man. The play never mocks God, but only those who use his name to prey on unsuspecting fools. The part of the fool is played to the hilt by Orgon. Throughout the first three acts he is such a domineering idiot that he is not even worth pitying. He, along with his mother, play the part of the blind zealot. What he chooses to call Christian love leads him to punish his family and himself because he takes away their freedom of choice and integrity and his own property. Essay On Montgomery Bus Boycott The Montgomery Bus Boycott was successful due to the dedication and hard work of the black community because if they had not had anything like heart, dedication, courage or hard work they would have never made a difference. According to Reading Like a Historian, the textbook states King and the others called for a black boycott of the Montgomery bus system. The boycott meant blacks refused to ride the buses. For months, the buses were almost empty because most of the riders had been black. Once again reading like a historian is stating Freedom doesn t come on a silver platter. With every great movement toward freedom there will inevitably be trials. Somebody will have to have the courage to sacrifice. You don t get to the Promised Land without going through the Wilderness. Body Mass Index (BMI) is a comparison between a person s height (in meters) and weight (in kilograms) in order to determine whether one is overweight or underweight based on their height. The goal of this portfolio is to prove of disprove how BMI as a function of Age (years) for girls living in the USA in 2000 can be modeled using one or more mathematical equations. That can be fixed by adjusting the horizontal phase shift value of _c_ to 12.4 to compensate. There is also a noticeable discrepancy between the function graph and the scatter plot in the domain {} and {}. A slight stretch about the y axis would fit the curve closer to the data points in those areas, therefore the _b_ value should be changed from π/15 to π/14. The number π/14 was chosen because reducing the denominator s value by 1 will increase the b value by a slight amount, and an increased b value will shorten period and compress the graph about the y axis, resulting in the values within domain to be closer to that of the data points. Making these changes, the revised formula for the sinusoidal function is as follows: Using TI InterActive!™ to graph that function, overlaid with the original data, and restricting the graph of the function to the same domain and range as the domain and range on the scatterplot, the graph is as follows: The refined equation fits the data much more closely at the beginning, yet around the Age = 13 mark it starts to deviate again. • 14. The Contributions Of The Renaissance Period In The 14th... During the 14th century, Europe experienced famine, disease, death and major changes within the church and papacy. Kingdoms consolidated and the influence the Pope held over politics waned. Amid these crises, the people galvanized and made major advancements in what would come to be known as the Renaissance period. In 1301 King Philip IV ruled the Holy Roman empire in southern France. He employed civil servants rather than barons to govern, breaking away from the feudal system that had been in place and leading the county towards centralized administration. A feud between Phillip and Pope Boniface VII would lead to the French control of the papacy when the seat of power was moved to Avignon. After the conviction of a papal legate at the beginning of the century, Pope Boniface VII urged Phillip to give the Papacy jurisdiction over spiritual rule, espousing the notion that the papacy was meant to govern kings and that churchmen were to be held accountable to church courts rather than the royal court. Boniface also asserted that church funds were not to be used for state purposes. This began a running conflict between the King, who wanted total control, and the pope. After the death of Boniface s successor, French pope Clement V was elected. Clement decided to remain in France and held court in Avignon. Seven French popes reigned there until pope Gregory XI finally returned to Rome. The tension between the papacy and the kings of England and France was a recurrent theme ... Identity as a Name in The Importance of Being Earnest Wilde uses Gwendolen s and Cecily s obviously superficial affection towards each other to again accentuate and criticize the importance that the Victorian s placed on an individual s name. The practice of naming others as a means to display one s own dominance is satirized by the irony in the argument between the two young ladies. The audience detects that they are undoubtedly fighting over Ernest as well as superiority, but their true feelings are ironically hidden (rather poorly) under fake earnestness. Garland states that, both women attempt to define the existence of their opponent through rapidly shifting expression of Identity (272), and cause a quiet fire in the atmosphere of the scene. Since their fight is so indirect and blatantly petty, Wilde is able to comically criticize females of victorian society that are represented by Gwendolen and Cecily. Gwendolen and Cecily are both fixated on the name Ernest because the superficial society surrounding them unconsciously causes them to gravitate towards men that they believe have earnest dispositions. Gwendolen asserts her fondness of the name Ernest declaring, my ideal has always been to love some one of the name of Ernest. There is something in that name that inspires absolute confidence (Wilde 980). Ashley Merryman Losing Is Good For You Analysis In Losing is Good for You , Ashley Merryman instills the idea that society celebrates the essence of success that children achieve in any aspect of their life whether they deserve it or not. Merryman further explains that by celebrating success or, more importantly, the idea that every child is a winner, society takes away the fundamental ideas of hard work. Merryman states that as society limits the opportunity for children to experience failure, this leads to the destruction of the core beliefs of what is the true meaning of winning is and undermines overall determination, and it lowers the desire for children to work hard. Overall, I support Merryman s claim that society rewards all participants despite their qualifications to hold the title of a winner . Today the term winner has become a cliché where people have driven the idea of success to the brink of extinction. Meaning, that society has over produced the idea of a winner to the extent that some other title would have to replace the phrase Congratulations, you are a winner . Personally, I believe that Merryman demonstrates the effect that as children are constantly provided trophies, certificates, and other methods of reward, each of these materials tend to tamper with the foundation of the meaning of being a true victor. Merryman states that, nonstop recognition does not inspire children to succeed. Instead it causes them to under achieve; with this statement, Merryman shows the key idea that as children ... • 25. What Is The Purpose Of The Seven Samurai Akira Kurosawa s The Seven Samurai (1954) is not only a great film in its own right, but the source of a genre that would flow through the rest of the century. The critic Michael Jeck suggests that this was the first film in which a team is assembled to carry out a mission an idea which gave birth to its direct Hollywood remake, The Magnificent Seven, as well as The Guns of Navarone. The Dirty Dozen, and countless later war, heist and caper movies. Since Kurosawa s samurai adventure Yojimbo (1960) was remade as A Fistful of Dollars and essentially created the spaghetti Western, and since this movie and Kurosawa s The Hidden Fortress inspired George Lucas Star Wars series, it could be argued that this greatest of filmmakers gave employment to action heroes for the next 50 years, just as a fallout from his primary purpose. That purpose was to make a samurai movie that was anchored in ancient Japanese culture, and yet argued for a flexible humanism in place of rigid traditions. One of the central truths of The Seven Samurai is that the samurai and the villagers who hire them are of different castes, and must never mix. Indeed, we learn that these villagers had earlier been hostile to samurai and one of them, even now, hysterically fears that a samurai will make off with his daughter. The purpose of the book really tells you about how you can defeat the evil and use good in a good way to help others. As of Beowulf he used his weaknesses from evil and overcame them for good. In span of 24 hours the Santa Cruz observatory at Mumbai airport recorded 944 mm of rain, which is highest recorded data for city in a day. The flood caused direct economic damages of about $2 billion and over 500 fatalities. The flood also caused several infrastructural damages, over 2,000 buildings were completely destroyed and 50,000 were partially damaged, around 40,000 auto rickshaws and taxis were spoiled, several thousand trucks and 850 BEST buses were damaged and local train and railway network of the city was also affected. The main cause behind such a huge loss was over population and rapid urbanization. Mumbai, along with its neighbouring suburbs is the world s sixth most populated metropolitan area with the population of around 19 million (MMRDA, 2003). The average population density is 27,209 persons per km2 .Due to the lack of availability of safe land the economically backward people live in slums which are low lying and flood prone. Thus the maximum loss due to the flood was barred by the people living in these low lying slums. • 39. Great Performances Of Media Do Not Always Have On Involve... Great performances in media do not always have to involve theatrical acrobatics. An actor s range or displays of genuine, emotional depth are necessary to build a character that is alive and multi faceted. But, an actor s ability to encapsulate a narrative within one s own character is what is truly a display of an artist. Poetry has a phrase to describe the use of as few words as possible to encompass vast terrain of depth called the economy of language. Actors may not know it, but they operate on very similar guidelines. The small choices in an actor s repertoire to move the body at a certain angle, to speak at a certain octave, the confidence by which one conveys a piece of dialogue. This economy of persona l expression builds a narrative of whom this character really is. The choice of a certain actor can change the implications of a character as well. For example, the well known George Clooney s educated and liberal personal background influences many movie goers in multi dimensional ways. The crucial choice can change what a certain audience will see the person s actions are relatable or even moral. Basically, sometimes great performances come down to the right people being put in the right scenarios and given the right tools. Enter Bud Corts and Kyle Maclachan. The Greek philosopher Strabo (c. 63 BC 21 AD) observed the Druids believed that men s souls and the universe are indestructible, although at times fire and water may prevail. Pidgins and creoles are both languages that occur when two people of different languages are communicating (p.232). In order to define a pidgin, it is important to look at the process in which a pidgin develops. When contact between speakers of two different languages occurs and they begin to create ways of communication through words and phrases, pre pidgin is developing. A pidgin develops as a new language when the original group or several groups of people begin using the pre pidgin to communicate as the common language. The pidgin is then being used as the lingua franca (p. 233). Depending on the use of the language, there is also a restricted pidgin and expanded pidgin. Restricted pidgin is only used when necessary for communication and typically has small vocabulary and little grammar. Expanded pidgin is a pidgin that is used everyday and in different entities such as religion or the government. This type of pidgin has an expanded vocabulary and grammar. On the other hand, a creole is a pidgin that children learn and use as their first language. With children learn the language as their first, it will expand to community usage.
