Ethical Dilemmas In The Classroom Analysis
Class Reflection There are many times in a setting where you work with other adults that
something will come into play that provides a conflict that could potentially create a clash of
ideas. Sometimes something that one person may think is the correct way to go about things,
could be wrong in the eyes of the other adult. When this conflict comes into play the two people
that come into problems with one another need to make adult decisions to come to an agreement on
the conflict that has arisen. Conflict management is about calming discussing the situation in order
to brainstorm on the problem (Watson, 2012). My paper discusses a current dilemma, ethical ideal
/principles that relate to the dilemma, as well as future approach. Ethical Dilemma The ethical
dilemma that I have come into is a case in which a director was filling into a classroom for a
teacher. Unfortunately the classroom that the director was filling in for,... Show more content on

It almost feels like this falls under ethical responsibilities to the children. The teacher should ensure
they are creating a safe, healthy, nurturing, and responsive setting for each child (Gartell, 2013). By
the parent/director allowing the child to act out, the parent/director was not putting the needs of the
other children first. I say this because, the director is teaching the other children that it is ok to act
that way. In addition, if the parent/director was treating their child differently, such as favoring, the
other children could potentially pick up on this as well. The parent/director should facilitate
cooperative and individual activities so that each child can experience success (Gartell, 2013). By
not addressing the behavior of their child, this sends mixed messages to the class. In addition, this
does not allow the children the opportunity to cope with the behavior, hence allowing for a healthy
class environment (Morrison, 2014) as the parent/director is utilizing

African American Literature Toni Morrisons Essay Black...
African American Literature Toni Morrisons Essay Black Matters
In Black Matters, Toni Morrison discusses knowledge and how it seems to take on a Eurocentric
standpoint. The knowledge she discusses is the traditional literature that is unshaped by the four
hundred year old presence of the first Africans and then African Americans in the United States
(Morrison 310). Morrison also addresses the treatment of African Americans in current society
dealing with racial discourse (311), in addition, to ignoring matters of race. Morrison strongly
argues that the traditional canon, taught and respected by much of society, ignores black s
contribution to society. She is also concerned with the lack of true African representation within the

This statement is depicted in Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, through the Negro servant named
Tobe. Although he is a character in the story, the reference to him is as a doddering Negro man
to wait on her #8230; He talked to no one, probably not even to her, for his voice had grown harsh
and rusty, as if from disuse (Faulkner 76). I feel through literature, society and white writers show
the African American experience or (black life) as valueless. Morrison also argues that society
ignores issues of race by disguising the actual subject. She demonstrates this idea using a famous
book within the canon, Huckleberry Finn . She says that, the critique of class and race is there,
although disguised or enhanced through a combination of humor, adventure, and the naГЇve #8230;
the novel masks itself in the comic, the parody and exaggeration of the tall tale (Morrison 320).
Despite the serious subject matter within the book it simulates and describes the parasitical nature
of white freedom (321). Morrison also claims that society reduces the importance of the African
American experience by perpetuating negative stereotypes. She states that the ending of
Huckleberry Finn has been labeled as a brilliant finesse that returns Tom Sawyer to the center stage
where he should be (321). By replacing the black slave, Jim, with the white character of Tom at the
end of the book, racial stereotypes are confirmed.

Compensation Plan Proposal
Building a Lasting Compensation Plan Building a Lasting Compensation Plan Compensation plans
are as varied as the companies that implement them. They reflect a company s culture, financial
strategy, organizational structure and goals. Compensation plans serve as the catalyst for
employees to join a company and remain, which in turn enables the organization to fulfill its
obligation to provide goods and services. Developing an effective compensation plan requires
thorough preparation through several steps. These steps include: determining job value,
determining overall pay, determining individual/Team pay, pay delivery, and managing pay

each of their five benchmark positions. For the internal evaluation, a paired comparison ranking
method (Milkovich, 2011) will be the simplest approach and can be accomplished with fairly
accurate results because there are a small number of jobs and each of the jobs has been thoroughly

Lewis Carroll s Alice s Adventures
Lewis Carroll s Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Though the Looking Glass are classics of
the English language, Vying with the Bible and William Shakespeare as source of
quotation(Blake, Kathleen 112). Lewis Carroll s Alice s Adventures in Wonderland has always
been a favorite for many children since it came out. It also has been interesting for any adult that
has read it. Lewis Carroll is a literary genius even though he wrote plenty of nonsense. Born on
Janurry 27, 1832, Lewis Carrol was the third child of 11(Famousauthors.org). Dodgson enjoyed
entertaining his siblings; inventing games and puzzles for them as well as setting up theatrical
plays and puppet shows. Dodgson was home schooled by his father for most of his early
childhood. He was extremely gifted in mathematics. His Mother died when he was 19 and his
father when he was 36 (Blake, Kathleen 113). He attended school at two different places. The first
is Richmond Grammar School ; the second was Rugby school (Famousauthors.org). At both of
those schools he studied math mostly. In 1852, he got the First Class Honors in math
(Famousauthors.org). He went to collage to get his masters degree in mathematics lectureship
(Blake, Kathleen 114). With that degree he went on to teach at the Oxford of christ for 26 years

Julie Macintosh s Under The Influence
When you think of something as quintessentially American, a patriotic scene flourished with red,
white and blue is bound to come to mind. But why lies in the background? Is it hotdogs and
hamburgers? Is it a family enjoying a summer day? Does the image include a delicious ice cold
beverage? Does that delicious American beverage happen to be a Budweiser? Peter Hernon and
Terry Ganey give the history and the rise of a beer dynasty in Under the Influence. Journalist Julie
Macintosh documents the inevitable downfall in Dethroning the King. The Busch family lived the
American dream and marketed patriotic and nationalistic pride to its fullest extent until its takeover
in 2008 by the contested InBev, a Brazilian beer giant. The head of the dynasty,... Show more

The Influence Of Philosophical Thinking During The...
The Enlightenment was a wide spread movement in philosophical thinking within Europe
throughout the 1700s. Prior to the Enlightenment, the Scientific Revolution in the 15 and 1600s set
up the basis of secular and introspective thinking that is characteristic to the enlightenment. During
the age of Enlightenment, many philosophers began to question the power and goals of the
government as well as the powers and rights of the people. These philosophers came together just as
scientific thinkers had come together during the Scientific Revolution in order to discuss and build
on each others ideas in the search of perfection. Critical thinking changed during the enlightenment
in several ways: first, political thought became less secular and sought to find the actual purpose of
a government; next, philosophes attempted to determine what rights were given to governments
and to people; and finally, during this time ideas on toleration and the rights of individuals were
expanded greatly. In medieval times, most European civilians followed laws based on the church.
Their compliance of the law was based on fear of governmental and religious punishments.
Throughout the Renaissance, the Scientific Revolution, and the eventual Enlightenment, people s
views on government began to become more secular. Many people began to view their leaders as
less of a tool to punish them for sin and tried to determine the actual purpose of their government. In
his Second Treatise on Government, John

Women and Families of Puritan Society Essay
Woman and family roles are considerably different today than they were back in Puritan times.
Puritans thought that the public s foundation rested on the little commonwealth , and not merely on
the individual. The little commonwealth meant that a father s rule over his family mirrored God s
rule over creation or a king over his subjects. John Winthrop believed that a true wifethought of
herself in [weakness] to her husband s authority. As ludicrous as this idea may appeal to women
and others in today s society, this idea was truly necessary for colonies to be able to thrive and
maintain social order. Marriagein Puritansociety was more of a contract than a religious sacrament.

Although women did have many responsibilities at home they were limited to these duties, and
their status in New England society was not very insignificant. During this time women were
expected to be seen and not heard. Like many people in society, women were not permitted to
vote and had no right to question church policy. Women who tried to receive some power were
exiled, like Anne Hutchinson, or in the late 1600s were suspected of witchcraft. To some degree,
women in New England did enjoy better legal protections than the women of England. For
example, New England women had more of a chance to break off unsuccessful marriages.
Nevertheless, they endured the same legal injustices as Englishwomen. Unless a husband
agreed to a prenuptial agreement giving her power of land she already possessed, a wife had no
property rights separate of her husband. Also, a widow was only allowed 1/3 of her husband s
assets if he died without heirs or instructed so in a will. Even though the position of women may
be seen as unfair or unacceptable today it was needed to keep order in Puritan society. The
standard of obedience placed upon women and others such as Native Americans and Africans
permitted some chosen few of the colonies to organize a set of rules and structuralize the colonies
so that they maybe able to progress. Without this progress colonies would not have been able to
form into the country it is today. Not to mention, because men have held dominant

The Walking Qur An
In addition to the embodiment of the Qur an through bodily transmissions and ethical
cultivation, Rudolph Ware in his book, The Walking Qur an, proposes understanding
embodiment of the Qur an as not only a bodily epistemology but also as an religious prism to
perceive the ontology of human beings in both the past and present. In a follow up piece
addressing criticisms and questions, Ware explains in one neat line the objective of his book: If I
could add a single line [to The Walking Qur an], it would be that the book takes Qur an schooling
as a window onto a particular epistemology of embodiment, and then uses that epistemology as a
window into history ( Traditions 678). Not only does Ware propose an epistemology of

Although he has been critiqued for disparaging Reformist variants of Islam, these critiques, in my
opinion, fail to see his particular utilization of the embodiment of Qur anic knowledge. For instance,
Adeline Masquelier in her essay Qur an Schooling and the Production of Mindful Bodies in West
Africa is correct to critique Ware s final polemic against Reformist Islam as lacking a fair insight
about its historical circumstances and relationship with the other Islamic discursive traditions;
however, her comparison of Saba Mahmood s embodiment of piety exhibited in her book Politics
of Piety and Ware s conceptualization of the term undercuts Ware s unique approach and paints
embodiment with the same brush (Masquelier 189 190). Failing to acknowledge the
epistemological project that comes with embodying the Qur an in Reformist Islam s particular way,
such as the adoption of specific subjectivities and modes of piety, reduces the differences the West
African epistemology possesses, for The Walking Qur an is not only the Qur an embodied but also
the Qur an in action [his italics] (Ware, WQ 14). Overall, whether through the embodiment of the
memorization and dispositions or the becoming of the literal walking, talking, and living Qur an,
these two conceptualizations of embodiment prove the important point that the Qur an is intricately
tied to the Muslim s corporeal interactions in this physical existence, for in every motion, the Qur

The Characteristics Of Freddie Mercury s Voice In Singing
Throughout the twentieth century, there have been a number of artists which are considered
revolutionary and an overall sensation. Though, a criterion to determine what is considered one of
the best artist of the century has not been established. In search of one, several categories seem to
be appropriate in creating an evaluation. These categories are interest in music from a younger age,
actions while in performance and how individuals react to these actions, successful song writing
capabilities, and how influential the individual was to the world around them. In combination of
these criterions, one artist is successful in each of the categories. This individual is Farrokh

A study conducted in 2015 analyzed Mercury s voice. The study found overall Mercury s voice
ranged from an F#2 (92.2 Hz) to about G5 (about 784 Hz). This large range is uncommon among
most singers. The study also found his vocal vibrato was 7.0 Hz. This level of modulation is
irregular and is the equivalent of a vocal tremor ( Why Freddie Mercury s Voice was so Great, as
explained by Science ). These overall characteristics are not a normal for a singer and create a
pleasing appeal which attracted large crowds. Many other artists have a large following in their
musical careers. However, the voice appeal is not to the extent of Freddie Mercury s appeal.
While Freddie Mercury is a favorite in his career, he separated his work life from his personal
life. His mother explained in an interview several moments in time where Mercury would tell her

Fortunato Short Story Analysis
This story by Edgar Allan Poe is one of premeditated murder. Montresor tells the story of the
night when he took his revenge on Fortunato, his friend. Montresor is upset about a long term
insult between his family and Fortunato s because Montresor says: Thousand injuries that he
has suffered at the hands of Fortunato . He plots to murder his friend during carnival, an event
that is usually represented by joy. Montresor chooses the exact moment when the man is drunk
and not in his correct mind. Montresor tricks Fortunato into the catacombs to try a wine and
eventually seals Fortunato within the catacombs to die. The story s setting describes one
closely related to horror, as Poe causes the readers to predict, to fear, and tremble in the opening.
The atmosphere of horror increases much more as Montresor describes his adventure with
Fortunato into the vaults. There are several examples of verbal irony within Montresor s words.
Montresor says one thing that has more than one meaning. Early on, Montresor gives
demanding orders to his attendants, not to leave the house, knowing that this will ensure that
they would. More than once in the writing we can see Montresor calling Fortunato his friend,
while taking him to death. Fortunato says that his cough will not kill him. A cough won t kill
me , he says, and Montresor replies, True, true . This quote is probably the most memorable line
of the story because he was sure that the cause of his death would not be his cough. Verbal irony
along with dark humor seems to fill the whole story. It kind of baffles the reader to think one can
be so blindsided into falling for some of the things Montresor has set up for Fortunato s fate.
Many times verbal irony has more than one meaning which makes this story as great as it is. In
Montresor s last words there is the last example of irony, it happened when Montresor realized
that his friend had finally passed. He called Fortunato s name repeatedly, with no answer.
Montresor threw his torch into the small hole and it fell into Fortunato s place of death. His last
words to his friend were In pace requiescat, which means rest in peace. The irony can be
interpreted in two ways, one is Montresor wishing his friend to rest in

Code Of Ethics By Credentialing Association (ACA)
Code of ethics published in 1953 by the American Psychological Association (APA). After that
National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and American Counseling Association (ACA)
adopted its ethical code (Neukrug, 2011). Ethical codes have been revised multiple times to fit
the needs of the organization depending on the professional values, which was not an easy task to
decide what to include in a code. There are many important things society value, so choosing
which values to reflect on the code has been a struggle for the association. Ethical codes are

Case Study Of Personal Computers In The U. S. Consumers
The uncertainty created by impersonal and overseas long distance customer service provided by
companies that specialize in direct sales of personal computers has led many U.S. consumers to
buy from more local retailers. This sales model follows the push strategy on page 46 of the text,
this strategy pushes the product to the end user or customer through salespromotions and other
incentives. (Min, 2015) The contemporary consumers are given a multitude of options when

Retail stores will need to have high quality upgradeable models available for sale, along with onsite
technical support that can provide any consumer modifications being requested. The retail store s

3.What are the potential problems associated with traditional retail sales?
Contemporary consumers have grown more knowledgeable with the specific capabilities that their
personal computers are equipped with. They are seeking more customization and performance
levels than that of many standard models available in retail stores. Many retail stores outsource
their IT customer service that has U.S. consumers frustrated with lack of clear communication and
cultural relatability. Retail locations can offer more local and personal customer service with a
competent tech support team available by phone, email or internet to alleviate breakdowns in
communication such as language barriers. Rapid delivery to customers can be provided by
contracting with local delivery services like UPS and Fed X or an in house service provided by the
tech support team.4

Social And Psychological Factors Of Gang Membership Essay
Gang membership has accounted for the increase in the number of youth and street gangs since the
1950 s. The development of gangs globally, especially in New Zealand, exhibits the fact that there
are significant influences pushing people towards becoming a gang member. There is a range of
social and psychological factors that underpin the dynamics of a gangs structure in which they
help outsiders gain insight into how gang involvement is evoked. Research has established that
there are push and pull factors to what we associate with the theory of multiple marginality. This
theory tackles how groups feel after being left on the boundaries of society, an action that
consequently encourages them to become involved in deviant behavior. The growth in gangs,
predominantly those with a heavy Maori influence such as the Mongrel Mob and Black Power
has caused controversy as to whether multiple marginality impacts and is solely responsible for
this issue. There may be no single reason behind a spike in gang membership however; having
the ability to understand the role of social and psychological factors is needed if we seek to
address this concern. This alone is a key aspect in addressing the development of present gangs and
why they are becoming more dominant in society.
Theory of Multiple Marginality
Multiple marginality can be defined as living on the boundaries of society, therefore not being
influenced and following the norms of society expectations. It is important

Essay on Lost Sister by Cathy Songs
Lost Sister by Cathy Songs
Cathy Songs poem Lost Sister explores the lives of two generations of Chinese women. One
generation chooses to leave China and begin a new life in America. the other chose to remain in
China and experience her culture the way it was meant to be. This is a comparison of the two
generations of women and how they are linked by culture and seperated by lifestyle.
In China, women were put in subservient positions to society. They were quiet, obedient creatures
who gathered patience . Song speaks of how women learned to provide for their families, as they
were learning to stretch the family rice . Women were expected to serve a purpose and be seen and
not heard.

Chinese women who chose to remain in China traded freedom for their culture. They were afraid
to leave the familiarity of their lives thee for an uncertain future in America Had they gone to
America, they would have lost the opportunity to experience Chinese culture firsthand. They lose
the freedom that the next generation would have and gained the experience of living in their
native culture ane accepting it as a way of life. These women were admirable because of their
strength to choose their culture and family over anything else. Their dedication is at a level close
to monks and saints. They were able to find harmony in their lives because it was all they ever knew.
The women who chose to go to America led a very different life. They were able to be free of
Chinese expectations of women. they did not have to learn to walk in shoes the size of teacups,
without breaking . Song indicates that In America, there are many roads and women can stride
along with men . These women were able to experience life as people who were equal to men in
society s eyes. If they had stayed in China they never would have had the chance to experience
something other then their native culture. Song emphasizes the life of these women in America to
point this out. She describes the sad loss of culture in America, the meager provisions and
sentiments of once belonging and the possibilites, the loneliness, can strangulate

Yes, Loki said, having trouble finding his words. He could only see a faint glimmer of her eyes

Yeah, Dallea breathed, relishing in the alien feeling of talking with her mask. She moved her

Compare And Contrast The Four Empires
The Four Empires of Mesopotamia
In the distance across the land was four civilizations. These civilizations were known as the
Akkadians, the Babylonians, the Assyrians and finally the Neo Babylonians. All of the civilizations
that lived in mesopotamia rose and fell like the sun.
First, I will be talking about the Akkadians. For 1,200 years, Sumer was a land of independent city
states until in 2300 B.C.E. the akkadians came to conquer them. The akkadians came from northern
mesopotamia under rule of the first leader sargon. Sargon was both a strong king and skilled
general. He made this empire through effective military strategies. First he had to get a large army.
Next he had to teach them to fight in tight formations. This formation was called the turtle. There
was shields in the front. Behind the shields were spears. These guys would extend the spear in
between the shields. In the back they had archers. Sargon used his military to win territory for his
empire. After he defeated the king of the city state urak, Sargon had gained ... Show more content

Colonialism, And Racism
Racism has been a controversial topic prevalent in social and political subject matters throughout
most areas of history. Many times, works of literature reflected these issues that were in society and
politics; the issues were usually highlighted to show the results of such a complicated and extensive
ideology. One such author that elaborated on this system was Aphra Behn, who wrote Oroonokoin
1688. This was a significant point in time because of how many shifts the 17th century brought to
Europe. Not only were there advances in sciences which, in turn, clashed with Christian doctrines
that were in place, discoveries of the New World caused various countries to practice new isms. As
imperialism and colonialism began to make its mark upon the world, especially in Europe, so did
racismand the problems that came with it. Slavery, which would later become tied to racism, had
already been a part of society as early as the ancient civilizations. However, people did not feel
that slavery was a debatable issue, and it wasn t until later that people began to speak against it.
Consequently, writers often used literature as a driving force for either contextualizing or
negating such ideas, and Aphra Behn s Oroonoko can be used as an example of this style. The
complex story Oroonoko places its focus on the character of a black slave, which is ironic on
several different levels. Not only was Aphra Behn a white woman of Great Britain, she served as a
spy for Charles II at a time in

These issues have been tackled differently in each area of literature. In the waste management
literature there has been a move away from trying to describe the recycler by means of their
attitudes and towards identifying them in terms of concrete actions. In the marketing literature, a
different approach has been taken. Here, one response to these problems is to focus on consumers
perceptions of green issues, rather than their identifiable characteristics. This is a key point,
which, if understood, would allow marketers to take a different perspective on segmentation,
based less on the mass market approach of demographics and more on consumer beliefs. One
example of such an approach is a study by Straughan and Roberts (1999), who focused on
perceived consumer effectiveness (PCE) as an insight into ecologically conscious consumer
behaviour (ECCB). PCE was found by Straughan and Roberts to be a key indicator in explaining
ECCB. The researchers emphasize that even if respondents are concerned about the environment,
they are unlikely to be proactive unless they have the belief that individuals can be effective.

The projecting mechanism of the IR touchscreen consist of Infrared LEDs, which lines two adjacent
side of the screen s bezel and the receiving component, that are commonly phototransistor, lines the
side opposite to the LEDs (Walker, 2012). Starting with the receiving component, the
phototransistor, it is a transistor that is sensitive to light. The basic concept that paved the path for
phototransistors was uncovered by Albert Einstein in his Nobel prize winning 1905 paper
(Handbook of Photoelectric Sensing, 1993). Einstein made the bold proposal that light traveled
through space in concentrated bundles (Known today as protons) (Handbook of Photoelectric
Sensing, 1993). Einstein also outlined how protons when striking materials liberate photoelectrons,
and the energy from the photoelectrons can be used to create a small current (Handbook of
Photoelectric Sensing, 1993). The property of a small current being produced by the striking of
photons exploited by transistors in order to create the photodetector, the phototransistor. In 1948, a
year after the transistor was invented, John Northup Shive created the first example of a
phototransistor where he used a beam of light instead of a wire as the emitter of a point contact
transistor, generating holes that flow to the collector (Electronic Circuits and Diagram Electronics

Invasion Of Sicily Research Paper
The Invasion of Sicily was one of the most important battles during World War II. It was named
Operation Husky by the Allies. The Allies were Great Britain, United States, Canada, and free

the Allies now focused their attention on the Italian mainland in an effort to knock out the weaker
Italian forces from under the Axis banner. This invasion also opened the second frond on the
continent of Europe to help take the pressure off of the USSR. The Invasion of Sicily was later
nicknamed the first European D Day.
On Saturday July 10, 1943 after forcing the German out of North Africa the Allies decided their

Explain What Is Wrong
Ashley Kelley Miss Roth H English pd. 4 24 March 2017 Is it Right? Is it Wrong? Morals and
values are the basis of all human decisions and knowledge. Every person s morals are different
from one another and can be used to define what is right and what is wrong in their own eyes.
Values are used as a personal translator that explains another person s behavior or beliefs to a
different individual. When people focus on both morals and values that have been set by them, they
see everything with a limited view, but take in more about what they learn. People create and set
personal values and morals based off of knowledge and understanding of the world and people

Experiences as children can shape people s brain and affect what is seen as right or wrong.
Values are acquired in childhood and manifest themselves in our campuses as permanent
perceptions that shape and influence the nature of our behaviors (Chmielewski n.p.). As a child,
that person is still developing and maturing both mentally and physically, so the values and
morals the child learns are applied to their lives and are held onto. In a world that is constantly
growing and developing, it is important for youths to hold onto morals taught to them in their
childhood (George 4). Adults also need to hold onto these morals to help youths to learn and
grasp their own personal morals. Values involve emotion, knowledge, thought, and ultimately
choice and response ( The Factors of Personality Traits n.p.). The knowledge that people gain is
gained from experience and is taken in over time. Interactions and experience can change and

Oryx And Crake
Oryx and Crake is a novel that follows the narration of a character named Jimmy, or Snowman.
Although the novel caters specifically to this character, I do not believe he is the most important
person. Instead, I feel the most noteworthy character, the one who truly sets things in to motion, is
Crake. Throughout the novel, we are given multiple hints as to why Crake is a the most
predominant figure. The first, and most obvious clue, is the title of the book. Before we are
introduced to him, we learn his name, indicating that he is an important figure. Another clue is that
without Crake, Jimmy would have never become fixated on Oryx, who is discovered during one of
their internetescapades (Atwood 91). Referring back to my first point, she... Show more content on

Without his involvement in the novel, the creation of the Crakers would not have been possible
(Atwood 292). His combination of developing into a formidable geneticist and unique philosophies
is the reason the Paradice project could be executed. After all, the Crakers are the sole purpose of
Jimmy s continued existence in a post apocalyptic environment (Atwood 329). Which is something
else Crake set in to motion when he slit Oryx s throat, causing Jimmy to feel an unbreakable tie to
the Crakers (Atwood 329). Furthermore, without Crake, the near extinction of the human race
would not have occurred in the form of birth control (Atwood 325). In addition to the Crakers, he is
also responsible for the BlyssPluss which was a hot bio form distributed to the public, causing the
rupture of internal organs and bleeding from most orifices (Atwood 325). Without this invention,
humanity would have continued to deplete their resources and perhaps eventually withered, but this
snuffed out any corrections that could have been made by executing generations of people.
In conclusion, I believe Crake is, plot wise, the most crucial character throughout the Oryx and
Crake novel. Without his involvement, we would not have been introduced to Oryx, have half a
title, produced the Crakers, or unleashed a horrific disease amongst the people (Atwood 324).
Jimmy played a significant role by tending to the Crakers after the Chaos; however, without Crake

5.1 Views on supply chain flexibility
5.1.1 Basic concepts
Supply chain management has become an important issue in today s business world, it is used by
many companies to improve their competitive advantage (Vickery, Calantone Droge, 1999). In a
supply chain, the customer is the most impart part and seeing that every company seeks to please
their customers, supply chain management therefore helps companies in satisfying the needs of the

Types Of Thinking From Point Of Reference And Relationship
Regimens from point of reference and relationship are two focal types of thinking found in
numerous legitimate frameworks, particularly CommonLaw frameworks, for example, those in
England and the United States. Point of reference includes a prior choice being followed in a
later case in light of the fact that both cases are the same. Relationship includes a prior choice
being followed in a later case on the grounds that the later case is like the prior one. Contentions
from point of reference and relationship are normal for legitimate thinking. Lawful thinking

Air Force Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy Introduction There are many types of
leaders not only in the military, but also in every civilian company around the world. We rarely
see a leader who possesses both vision and an ethical style of leadership; however, CMSgt Paul
W. Airey, the first Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, was this type of leader. Throughout
this paper I will discuss his ability to be both a visionary and ethical leader, which resulted in
CMSgt Airey being labeled a legend (LaGrone, 2009, p.2). He was described by the former Chief
of Staff, General Norton Schwartz as an Airman s Airman and one of the true pioneers of the
service (LaGrone, 2009, p.2). CMSgt Airey has left a legacy that will... Show more content on

CMSgt Airey used his leadership ability to address the low retention rates of first term Airmen,
which was at a 12 year low (Lucas, 1997). As a visionary leader he understood that it was not just
the war in Vietnam that was to blame for the low retention (Lucas, 1997). He realized that the
promotion system was broken and he set his sites on developing a system that would improve
promotion opportunities for every Airman (Lucas, 1997). Many would say that this was the most
influential contribution he made during his tenure. CMSgt Airey led a team from several career
fields. He understood and used the Z process according to Thomas N. Barnes Center (2012a) team
building when he met with his team (p.6 8). The teams use and understanding according to
Thomas N. Barnes Center (2012a) change management resulted in the the development of the
Weighted Airman Promotion System (WAPS) (p.17 19) (Lucas, 1997). Chief Airey was quoted as
saying the end result was a promotion system which today is still in effect and is by far the fairest,
most equitable enlisted promotion system of any of the armed forces (Lucas, 1997, p3).
Furthermore, CMSgt Airey understood that you could not have vision if you sat behind a desk and
because of this he traveled to many bases throughout his tenure. He was asked by the chairman of
the House Banking Committee to go to Europe after many complaints about outrageous interest
rates on loans

Individuality In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead
Ayn Rand wrote The Fountainhead which revolved around the protagonist; Roark s struggle to
maintain his individuality. The realization of the novel is altruism, value, and individualism which
guides humans to egotistic decisions. Roark breaking the law created the explosion of the ethics
and moral of the novel. He doesn t break the law by demolishing the Cortland Homes, but instead
he crushed the mass opinion of the false virtuousness of altruism and collectivism. Roark s ego
throughout the novels stands firm against public opinion. Roark being a person who believes in
individualism, designs modernized buildings. Even though he was offered many jobs to design
traditional buildings, he declines them. His defining moral characteristics are his individualism and
integrity. He guides every aspect of his existence by his own judgment, making him successful.
Unlike Wynand, Roark believes the fully virtuous man... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roark felt that dynamiting the Cortland Home was a moral necessity to preserve the housing
project s integrity. When Peter Keating came to Roark for help with his design, he agreed to
help Peter under one condition. Inevitably, that promise was broken, leaving him with no choice
but to break the law and make it a test case for the court and jury to decide. This shows how
passionate he is about his work and that he will not compromise his creativity in order to
accomplish his personal goals. He had not even desired monetary or any other form of payment,
other than seeing it built, for his creation: I agreed to design Cortland for the purpose of seeing it
erected as I designed it and for no other reason. That was the price I set for my work. It was not
paid. The features for the building being changed shows that people have no respect for him. This
devastated Roark making him have not choice but to blow the building

Essay On Kampong Glam
Take a Step Back Into Yesterday with The Sultan
The Sultan is far from being an ordinary hotel as it is built entirely based on Singapore s unique
and rich history. From carefully conserving the hotel s structure to be of what it was back in the
1800s to the design of the hotel that focuses on a specific era, The Sultan gives its guests a little
taste of the old Singapore charm with a modern touch.
History All Around
Situated in one of Singapore s historical sites, Kampong Glam was one of the early major projects
initiated by the British designated for the then Sultan (a Muslim sovereign) and the Muslim
community. Here, they built a palace to house the Sultan, school and also the iconic mosque today
known as the Sultan Mosque. In the 1900s, Kampong Glam saw a rise in commercial activities and
expanded by building new shop houses and residential buildings. Soon, the community got bigger
with the inclusion of the Chinese and Indians.
The Sultan Project
This miniature version of The Sultan shows the top view of the entire hotel. It has an interesting
structure with some parts of the building varying in size. This is because The Sultan is actually
made up of ten conservation shop houses that has been carefully joined to become one big
structural wonder. Each individual shop house has been salvaged and restored to its original state.

The section where the lobby is, used to be a Printing Press for the Muslim community. Now as
you walk in, you will be greeted by a beautiful reception decorated with posh furnishings and

typical features of a shop house in the past. The Sultan stays on the darker colour palette with a
splash maroon here and there; resembling how royal palaces were decorated in the earlier

The The Wreck of the Medusa Essay
In the moonlight s ghostly glow,
I waken in a dream.
Once more upon the raft I stand,
Upon the raging sea.
In my ears the moans and screams
Of the dying ring,
Somewhere in the darkness
The siren softly sings...
The architects of our doom
Around their tables sit,
And in their thrones of power,
Condemn those they ve cast adrift.
Echoes down the city street,
Their Harpies laughter rings.
Waiting for the curtain call,
Oblivious in the wings.
Excerpt from the lyrics, The Wake of the Medusa , By The Pogues
The Raft of the Medusa , by Theodore Gericault, 1819, was inspired by the catastrophic wreck of
the French frigate, The Medusa, on July 2, 1816, off the west coast of Africa, during a voyage to
Senagal. The ship ran aground on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A raft was constructed from the masts and crossbeams of The Medusa, to carry the crew, soldiers
and some of the passengers. Due to there only being six lifeboats aboard, the dignitaries, their
families and other higher ranking officials took possession of them, leaving approximately 150
members for the raft. Seventeen crewmen decided, for whatever reason, to remain on The Medusa.
Those in the lifeboats quickly decided that towing the raft was impractical, and Governor Schmaltz,
not Captain De Chaumereys, was the first to drop the tow line to the raft, leaving it to the cruelty of
the open sea.
On the raft, the situation quickly deteriorated, and panic consumed those aboard. Fighting broke
out, provisions were destroyed and the Raft of the Medusa s infamous voyage commenced.
The first night 20 men were killed, or committed suicide, in a struggle to defeat terror, fear and
dread. The undisciplined soldiers quickly staged a mutiny, eventually committed cannibalism and
other atrocities, and 13 days later, 15 of the original 150 that went into the ocean survived to be
rescued.
The following material is from eye witness accounts of two of The Medusa s survivors, the ship s
Surgeon, Henri Savigny and ship s Geographer, Alexander Correard. Much of the testimony of the
two survivors was released to an anti Bourbon newspaper, resulting in a scandal and political cover
up, and the court martial of Captain De Chaumereys.
According to the accounts

Culture Industry Theory
It is increasingly clear that media and culture today are of central importance to the maintenance
and reproduction of contemporary societies. Cultures expose society to different personalities,
provide models, which display various forms of societal life and cultivate various ways to
introduce people into dominant forms of thought and action. These are the types of activities
integrate people into society and create our public sphere. Media and technology surround our
society; engrained into the fabric of our existence so much so, that it has become hard to find an
aspect of life not influenced by its effects. For this reason, media controllers, wield extreme power
and influence over the lives of everyday people. Although, they... Show more content on

Debord believed that commodity creation was what characterized new consumer societies, and
the idea of society of the spectacle was a way to analyze theses emerging cultural forms. For
Debord, the media is a part of this spectacle. Debord defines spectacles as, an exhibit of dazzling
perfusion of commodities and things to purchase which in turn [are] celebrated in advertising
campaigns that inscribed the new consumer items with an aura of magic and divinity ,( Durham
and Kellner 14). This is what Burger King has done in its marketing strategies. In one of its most
recent marketing campaigns, Burger King took their trademarked Whopper to various remote
locations across the world and surveyed different groups of people, all of whom have never seen
let alone eaten a hamburger before in their life, asking them which burger they like best, the
Whopper or Burger Kings competitor McDonalds Big Mac . A campaign called Whopper Virgins .
Whopper Virgins painted the picture to consumers who viewed the video, that the Whopper, and
therefore Burger King, where a commodity that nobody deserved to live without because of their
life changing abilities. Society as spectacle also, encompasses all the means and methods ruling
powers employ, outside of direct force, which subject individuals to societal manipulation while
obscuring the nature and effects of operations of domination and subordination , (Durham and
Kellner 15). Shot in the form of a

How Did Elvis Influence
How did Elvis Presley make an influence? To many people, he was the definition of the 20th
century. Elvis is most known for his music. Many people think he invented Rock and Roll, but
he didn t. He was a big influence in it though. His style made it unique. It was a sound no one has
ever heard before. Segregation was a big part of the 20th century. Elvis grew up listening to
African American singers. Elvis had a huge following. Once people realized that Elvis was
inspired by African American singers, they began to realize that they weren t so different from us.
African American singers became more and more popular. I guess you can say Elvis helped end
segregation. Elvis was drafted in the army in the year of 1957. When fans found out he

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Oprah Winfrey s Speech
Speech Analysis On Friday May 11th, 2018 Oprah Winfrey addressed the University of Southern
California s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism in Los Angeles. What are you
willing to stand for? was the question, she asked the captivated crowd inside the Shrine
Auditorium, she proceeded to say that it is going to follow you for the rest of your life. For much
of her politically charged and inspirational speech, she rallied the group of more than nine hundred
students graduating with degrees in journalism, public relations, and communications to fight for
the truth, to remember their principles and to always be honest. The media mogul urged the
graduates to be the truth in a world where you can t go anywhere she stated that... Show more

Winfrey also went on to say that we are all becoming hysterical, and it s getting worse. I believe
this is true because there is so much going on for humans with the media and the internet people
are becoming more hysterical, before when we didn t have all these things influencing us life was
much simpler. Ms. Winfrey encouraged her audience to pick a problem, any problem, and do
something about it. she said. Use your gifts to illuminate the darkness in the world. Oprah Winfrey
mentioned to the group of Graduates to become the new editorial gatekeepers, an ambitious
army of truth seekers who will arm themselves intelligence, with the insight and with the facts
necessary to strike down deceit. She told them that they are the ones who are going to keep the
people in the media who share false news in check. I love how she also shared stories about her
mentor, the late Maya Angelou who was a poet an academy winning author, actress and civil
right activist. Oprah Winfrey stated that when she opened The Oprah Winfrey Leadership
Academy for Girls in South Africa back in 2007 that will be her greatest legacy. She said I
remember she was standing at the counter making biscuits and she turned, put the dough down
and said, imitating Angelou s deep voice You have no idea what your legacy will be, You have no

  • 2. Ethical Dilemmas In The Classroom Analysis Class Reflection There are many times in a setting where you work with other adults that something will come into play that provides a conflict that could potentially create a clash of ideas. Sometimes something that one person may think is the correct way to go about things, could be wrong in the eyes of the other adult. When this conflict comes into play the two people that come into problems with one another need to make adult decisions to come to an agreement on the conflict that has arisen. Conflict management is about calming discussing the situation in order to brainstorm on the problem (Watson, 2012). My paper discusses a current dilemma, ethical ideal /principles that relate to the dilemma, as well as future approach. The teacher should ensure they are creating a safe, healthy, nurturing, and responsive setting for each child (Gartell, 2013). By the parent/director allowing the child to act out, the parent/director was not putting the needs of the other children first. I say this because, the director is teaching the other children that it is ok to act that way. In addition, if the parent/director was treating their child differently, such as favoring, the other children could potentially pick up on this as well. The parent/director should facilitate cooperative and individual activities so that each child can experience success (Gartell, 2013). By not addressing the behavior of their child, this sends mixed messages to the class. In addition, this does not allow the children the opportunity to cope with the behavior, hence allowing for a healthy class environment (Morrison, 2014) as the parent/director is utilizing ... • 3. African American Literature Toni Morrisons Essay Black... African American Literature Toni Morrisons Essay Black Matters In Black Matters, Toni Morrison discusses knowledge and how it seems to take on a Eurocentric standpoint. The knowledge she discusses is the traditional literature that is unshaped by the four hundred year old presence of the first Africans and then African Americans in the United States (Morrison 310). Morrison also addresses the treatment of African Americans in current society dealing with racial discourse (311), in addition, to ignoring matters of race. Morrison strongly argues that the traditional canon, taught and respected by much of society, ignores black s contribution to society. She is also concerned with the lack of true African representation within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This statement is depicted in Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, through the Negro servant named Tobe. Although he is a character in the story, the reference to him is as a doddering Negro man to wait on her #8230; He talked to no one, probably not even to her, for his voice had grown harsh and rusty, as if from disuse (Faulkner 76). I feel through literature, society and white writers show the African American experience or (black life) as valueless. Morrison also argues that society ignores issues of race by disguising the actual subject. She demonstrates this idea using a famous book within the canon, Huckleberry Finn . She says that, the critique of class and race is there, although disguised or enhanced through a combination of humor, adventure, and the naГЇve #8230; the novel masks itself in the comic, the parody and exaggeration of the tall tale (Morrison 320). Despite the serious subject matter within the book it simulates and describes the parasitical nature of white freedom (321). Morrison also claims that society reduces the importance of the African American experience by perpetuating negative stereotypes. She states that the ending of Huckleberry Finn has been labeled as a brilliant finesse that returns Tom Sawyer to the center stage where he should be (321). By replacing the black slave, Jim, with the white character of Tom at the end of the book, racial stereotypes are confirmed. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They reflect a company s culture, financial strategy, organizational structure and goals. • 7. The Influence Of Philosophical Thinking During The... The Enlightenment was a wide spread movement in philosophical thinking within Europe throughout the 1700s. Prior to the Enlightenment, the Scientific Revolution in the 15 and 1600s set up the basis of secular and introspective thinking that is characteristic to the enlightenment. During the age of Enlightenment, many philosophers began to question the power and goals of the government as well as the powers and rights of the people. These philosophers came together just as scientific thinkers had come together during the Scientific Revolution in order to discuss and build on each others ideas in the search of perfection. Critical thinking changed during the enlightenment in several ways: first, political thought became less secular and sought to find the actual purpose of a government; next, philosophes attempted to determine what rights were given to governments and to people; and finally, during this time ideas on toleration and the rights of individuals were expanded greatly. In medieval times, most European civilians followed laws based on the church. Their compliance of the law was based on fear of governmental and religious punishments. Throughout the Renaissance, the Scientific Revolution, and the eventual Enlightenment, people s views on government began to become more secular. Many people began to view their leaders as less of a tool to punish them for sin and tried to determine the actual purpose of their government. In his Second Treatise on Government, John ... Although women did have many responsibilities at home they were limited to these duties, and their status in New England society was not very insignificant. During this time women were expected to be seen and not heard. Like many people in society, women were not permitted to vote and had no right to question church policy. Women who tried to receive some power were exiled, like Anne Hutchinson, or in the late 1600s were suspected of witchcraft. To some degree, women in New England did enjoy better legal protections than the women of England. For example, New England women had more of a chance to break off unsuccessful marriages. Nevertheless, they endured the same legal injustices as Englishwomen. Unless a husband agreed to a prenuptial agreement giving her power of land she already possessed, a wife had no property rights separate of her husband. Also, a widow was only allowed 1/3 of her husband s assets if he died without heirs or instructed so in a will. Even though the position of women may be seen as unfair or unacceptable today it was needed to keep order in Puritan society. The standard of obedience placed upon women and others such as Native Americans and Africans permitted some chosen few of the colonies to organize a set of rules and structuralize the colonies so that they maybe able to progress. In a follow up piece addressing criticisms and questions, Ware explains in one neat line the objective of his book: If I could add a single line [to The Walking Qur an], it would be that the book takes Qur an schooling as a window onto a particular epistemology of embodiment, and then uses that epistemology as a window into history ( Traditions 678). Although he has been critiqued for disparaging Reformist variants of Islam, these critiques, in my opinion, fail to see his particular utilization of the embodiment of Qur anic knowledge. For instance, Adeline Masquelier in her essay Qur an Schooling and the Production of Mindful Bodies in West Africa is correct to critique Ware s final polemic against Reformist Islam as lacking a fair insight about its historical circumstances and relationship with the other Islamic discursive traditions; however, her comparison of Saba Mahmood s embodiment of piety exhibited in her book Politics of Piety and Ware s conceptualization of the term undercuts Ware s unique approach and paints embodiment with the same brush (Masquelier 189 190). Failing to acknowledge the epistemological project that comes with embodying the Qur an in Reformist Islam s particular way, such as the adoption of specific subjectivities and modes of piety, reduces the differences the West African epistemology possesses, for The Walking Qur an is not only the Qur an embodied but also the Qur an in action [his italics] (Ware, WQ 14). Overall, whether through the embodiment of the memorization and dispositions or the becoming of the literal walking, talking, and living Qur an, these two conceptualizations of embodiment prove the important point that the Qur an is intricately tied to the Muslim s corporeal interactions in this physical existence, for in every motion, the Qur an is ... • 14. Fortunato Short Story Analysis This story by Edgar Allan Poe is one of premeditated murder. Montresor tells the story of the night when he took his revenge on Fortunato, his friend. Montresor is upset about a long term insult between his family and Fortunato s because Montresor says: Thousand injuries that he has suffered at the hands of Fortunato . He plots to murder his friend during carnival, an event that is usually represented by joy. Montresor chooses the exact moment when the man is drunk and not in his correct mind. Montresor tricks Fortunato into the catacombs to try a wine and eventually seals Fortunato within the catacombs to die. The story s setting describes one closely related to horror, as Poe causes the readers to predict, to fear, and tremble in the opening. The atmosphere of horror increases much more as Montresor describes his adventure with Fortunato into the vaults. There are several examples of verbal irony within Montresor s words. Montresor says one thing that has more than one meaning. Early on, Montresor gives demanding orders to his attendants, not to leave the house, knowing that this will ensure that they would. More than once in the writing we can see Montresor calling Fortunato his friend, while taking him to death. Fortunato says that his cough will not kill him. A cough won t kill me , he says, and Montresor replies, True, true . This quote is probably the most memorable line of the story because he was sure that the cause of his death would not be his cough. Verbal irony along with dark humor seems to fill the whole story. It kind of baffles the reader to think one can be so blindsided into falling for some of the things Montresor has set up for Fortunato s fate. Many times verbal irony has more than one meaning which makes this story as great as it is. In Montresor s last words there is the last example of irony, it happened when Montresor realized that his friend had finally passed. He called Fortunato s name repeatedly, with no answer. Montresor threw his torch into the small hole and it fell into Fortunato s place of death. His last words to his friend were In pace requiescat, which means rest in peace. This theory tackles how groups feel after being left on the boundaries of society, an action that consequently encourages them to become involved in deviant behavior. The growth in gangs, predominantly those with a heavy Maori influence such as the Mongrel Mob and Black Power has caused controversy as to whether multiple marginality impacts and is solely responsible for this issue. There may be no single reason behind a spike in gang membership however; having the ability to understand the role of social and psychological factors is needed if we seek to address this concern. This alone is a key aspect in addressing the development of present gangs and why they are becoming more dominant in society. Theory of Multiple Marginality Multiple marginality can be defined as living on the boundaries of society, therefore not being influenced and following the norms of society expectations. Many times, works of literature reflected these issues that were in society and politics; the issues were usually highlighted to show the results of such a complicated and extensive ideology. One such author that elaborated on this system was Aphra Behn, who wrote Oroonokoin 1688. This was a significant point in time because of how many shifts the 17th century brought to Europe. Not only were there advances in sciences which, in turn, clashed with Christian doctrines that were in place, discoveries of the New World caused various countries to practice new isms. As imperialism and colonialism began to make its mark upon the world, especially in Europe, so did racismand the problems that came with it. Slavery, which would later become tied to racism, had already been a part of society as early as the ancient civilizations. However, people did not feel that slavery was a debatable issue, and it wasn t until later that people began to speak against it. Consequently, writers often used literature as a driving force for either contextualizing or negating such ideas, and Aphra Behn s Oroonoko can be used as an example of this style. The complex story Oroonoko places its focus on the character of a black slave, which is ironic on several different levels. Not only was Aphra Behn a white woman of Great Britain, she served as a spy for Charles II at a time in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The basic concept that paved the path for phototransistors was uncovered by Albert Einstein in his Nobel prize winning 1905 paper (Handbook of Photoelectric Sensing, 1993). Einstein made the bold proposal that light traveled through space in concentrated bundles (Known today as protons) (Handbook of Photoelectric Sensing, 1993). Types Of Thinking From Point Of Reference And Relationship Regimens from point of reference and relationship are two focal types of thinking found in numerous legitimate frameworks, particularly CommonLaw frameworks, for example, those in England and the United States. Point of reference includes a prior choice being followed in a later case in light of the fact that both cases are the same. Relationship includes a prior choice being followed in a later case on the grounds that the later case is like the prior one. Contentions from point of reference and relationship are normal for legitimate thinking. Lawful thinking contrasts in various routes from the kind of thinking apply by people in their ordinary lives. It much of the time apply contentions that people don t apply or that people apply in diverse ways. Point of reference is a decent sample of this. In individual thinking we don t regularly respect the way that we chose one path in the past as raising some assumption that we ought to choose the same route later on. Obviously there can be exceptional circumstances that have this impact 2somebody may have depended on what we did some time recently, or may have had their desires raised that we would do as such once more yet missing these unique contemplations we don t view ourselves as being submitted later on to settle on the same choice. Throughout this paper I will discuss his ability to be both a visionary and ethical leader, which resulted in CMSgt Airey being labeled a legend (LaGrone, 2009, p.2). As a visionary leader he understood that it was not just the war in Vietnam that was to blame for the low retention (Lucas, 1997). He realized that the promotion system was broken and he set his sites on developing a system that would improve promotion opportunities for every Airman (Lucas, 1997). Many would say that this was the most influential contribution he made during his tenure. CMSgt Airey led a team from several career fields. • 40. Individuality In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead Ayn Rand wrote The Fountainhead which revolved around the protagonist; Roark s struggle to maintain his individuality. The realization of the novel is altruism, value, and individualism which guides humans to egotistic decisions. Roark breaking the law created the explosion of the ethics and moral of the novel. He doesn t break the law by demolishing the Cortland Homes, but instead he crushed the mass opinion of the false virtuousness of altruism and collectivism. Roark s ego throughout the novels stands firm against public opinion. Roark being a person who believes in individualism, designs modernized buildings. Even though he was offered many jobs to design traditional buildings, he declines them. His defining moral characteristics are his individualism and integrity. He guides every aspect of his existence by his own judgment, making him successful. Unlike Wynand, Roark believes the fully virtuous man... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Peter Keating came to Roark for help with his design, he agreed to help Peter under one condition. This shows how passionate he is about his work and that he will not compromise his creativity in order to accomplish his personal goals. He had not even desired monetary or any other form of payment, other than seeing it built, for his creation: I agreed to design Cortland for the purpose of seeing it erected as I designed it and for no other reason. That was the price I set for my work. It was not paid. The features for the building being changed shows that people have no respect for him. This devastated Roark making him have not choice but to blow the building ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From carefully conserving the hotel s structure to be of what it was back in the 1800s to the design of the hotel that focuses on a specific era, The Sultan gives its guests a little taste of the old Singapore charm with a modern touch. History All Around Situated in one of Singapore s historical sites, Kampong Glam was one of the early major projects initiated by the British designated for the then Sultan (a Muslim sovereign) and the Muslim community. Here, they built a palace to house the Sultan, school and also the iconic mosque today known as the Sultan Mosque. In the 1900s, Kampong Glam saw a rise in commercial activities and expanded by building new shop houses and residential buildings. Soon, the community got bigger with the inclusion of the Chinese and Indians. The Sultan Project This miniature version of The Sultan shows the top view of the entire hotel. It has an interesting structure with some parts of the building varying in size. The architects of our doom Around their tables sit, And in their thrones of power, Condemn those they ve cast adrift. Echoes down the city street, Their Harpies laughter rings. Excerpt from the lyrics, The Wake of the Medusa , By The Pogues The Raft of the Medusa , by Theodore Gericault, 1819, was inspired by the catastrophic wreck of the French frigate, The Medusa, on July 2, 1816, off the west coast of Africa, during a voyage to Senagal. Due to there only being six lifeboats aboard, the dignitaries, their families and other higher ranking officials took possession of them, leaving approximately 150 members for the raft. Seventeen crewmen decided, for whatever reason, to remain on The Medusa. Those in the lifeboats quickly decided that towing the raft was impractical, and Governor Schmaltz, not Captain De Chaumereys, was the first to drop the tow line to the raft, leaving it to the cruelty of the open sea. On the raft, the situation quickly deteriorated, and panic consumed those aboard. Fighting broke out, provisions were destroyed and the Raft of the Medusa s infamous voyage commenced. The first night 20 men were killed, or committed suicide, in a struggle to defeat terror, fear and dread. The undisciplined soldiers quickly staged a mutiny, eventually committed cannibalism and other atrocities, and 13 days later, 15 of the original 150 that went into the ocean survived to be rescued. The following material is from eye witness accounts of two of The Medusa s survivors, the ship s Surgeon, Henri Savigny and ship s Geographer, Alexander Correard. Much of the testimony of the two survivors was released to an anti Bourbon newspaper, resulting in a scandal and political cover up, and the court martial of Captain De Chaumereys. This is what Burger King has done in its marketing strategies. In one of its most recent marketing campaigns, Burger King took their trademarked Whopper to various remote locations across the world and surveyed different groups of people, all of whom have never seen let alone eaten a hamburger before in their life, asking them which burger they like best, the Whopper or Burger Kings competitor McDonalds Big Mac .
