Stock Characters In Roman Comedy
In Roman comedy, the use of stock characters helped to represent common archetypes in society.
Stock characters were also used to allow for audiences to easily understand a production, as the
characters were so commonly seen. In modern movies and specifically American comedy,
stereotypical characters are often used that demonstrate society s beliefs about certain types of people.
These characters are often used satirically to mock the stereotypes that lead people to judge others.
Regardless of when stock characters are utilized, they point to the ideas that a society has about
certain types of people during a specific time period. The stock character of the leno, or brothel keeper
or pimp, is a character that many, if not all, Romans would have immediately recognized. The leno is
represented in Plautus Pseudolus by a character named Ballio. He owns the love interest of Calidorus,
master of Pseudolus, and is known for his greed and physical harshness towards his slaves. He is seen
in the play constantly beating his slaves, and he calls them names such as whip spoilers (139), which
indicates that Ballio beats them so much that his whip becomes spoiled. Ballio fits the classic
definition of a leno, as he is extremely greedy and only cares about money. He compromises his
morals constantly in order to make more money, and he almost seems proud to accept his bad
character. The most important example of this is when he sells Phoenicium, Calidorus love interest, to

Social and Emotional Development of the Gifted
When dealing with gifted children, there are often many social and emotional problems that are
underlying. Gifted students are not like other students. These students are often referred to as the ones
that are smart with good grades and have superior test scores. Gifted students are envisioned as the
students that are extraordinary in many aspects! What is not always ... Show more content on

These characteristics can also cause the already identified students to not achieve to their fullest due to
stress and lack of motivation.
It is very hard to understand why students don t perform to their full potential when you know they are
capable. This is known as underachievement. Both early researchers and more recent authors have
defined underachievement in Social and Emotional Development of the Gifted 3 terms of a
discrepancy between a child s school performance and some ability index such as an IQ score. (Delisle
Galbraith, 2002). Gifted children who do not succeed in school are often successful in outside
activities such as sports, social events, after school jobs, talent or hobby interests. (Delisle Galbraith,
2002). So we wonder what causes the underachievement.
Bainbridge (2014), believes these problems result from gifted children being able to intellectually
understand abstract concepts but are then unable to deal with those concepts emotionally. Ones
physical development may also lead to an inability to complete a task that they are capable of
intellectually envisioning. Perfectionism can lead to fear of failure, in turn causing a gifted child to
avoid failure by refusing to even try something. (Bainbridge, 2014). This often leads to a lack of
motivation among students.
McCoach Siegle (2005), believe that motivated students appear to

The Construction Of A Construction Project Delivery
Research Scopes and Goals
Depended upon developing trends of not only the U.S. construction industry, also the worldwide one
in general, this research is precisely about the cooperating relationships and efficiencies of a full
collaboration, including Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Lean Construction, and Building
Information Modeling (BIM) in intensifying performance of plenty construction project types.
Specifically, this research investigates and analyzes numerous necessary means and techniques used
for a true collaboration of cooperation of IPD, Lean, and BIM (or ILB in short); additionally, the
efficiency of full ILB cooperation is proved by the examination of two important variables of a
construction project, which are Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI),
with participation of more than 75 projects and case studies. Technically, three essential phases of a
construction project, such as pre construction (planning, pre design, estimating costs, schematic
design, and constructability review), construction (managing constructing process, tracking project
schedule, and controlling costs), and post construction (closeout work and final completion) are
specifically investigated together with proposed conceptually synergistic models of these factors.
Investigating all possible components for a perfect ILB and evaluating this partnership s effects on
project cost and schedule performance are spreading more and more knowledge and applications of

On the bus boycott When the trial of the boycott leaders began in Alabama, the national press got its
first good look at Martin Luther King Jr., the first defendant. Four days later, King was found guilty.
The sentence was a $500 fine and court costs, or 386 days of hard labour. The judge explained that he
had imposed this minimal penalty because King had promoted non violence. King was released on

Child Poverty in the United States
In the United States, about 24 million children live in poverty (Ingraham). Poverty is a big issue and
has been for a while. It can affect children now and when they become adults. There are children
going to bed hungry, not knowing where their next meal is coming from, but Compassion is a
Christian organization working to stop child poverty around the world.
First, the United States is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, but also has one of the highest
poverty rates. The national median income is about $31,000 a year for a family of four and 22 percent
of children live in families whose income is below the national poverty level (Ingraham). One in three
children are living in poverty today (Ingraham). Next, poverty rates are increasing rapidly. Since 2008,
the United States poverty rate has increased, but during the same time, 18 countries reduced their
poverty rates (Ingraham). Between 2006 and 2011, the child poverty rate increased in 34 states,
mainly in Nevada, Idaho, Hawaii, and New Mexico (Ingraham).
Second, poverty also has an effect on students. There are more than half of public school students
living in poverty and most students who live in poverty drop out of school and do not graduate or go
to college (Kasperkevic). Some children actually think it is their fault that their families are homeless
(60 Minutes). Also, poverty can affect students

Red Sox Case Study
For Price, Red Sox, the price is right
An elite starting pitcher will call Fenway Park his home next season for the first time since Jon Lester
was traded to Oakland at the deadline in 2014. The Red Sox signed 30 year old lefty David Price to a
7 year, $217 million contract this past Tuesday. Price is one of the top starting pitchers in baseball. He
won the 2012 American League Cy Young award after going 20 5 in the regular season. Boston won
the David Price sweepstakes after months of talk about where he would land. Besides Boston, it is
reported that Price was very interested in signing with either the Cubs, Cardinals, or the team he
played for during part of the 2015 season, the Blue Jays.
Price will undoubtedly improve the Red Sox struggling pitching staff, one that finished the season
with a collective 4.39 earned run average and surrendered 178 home runs, the seventh most in the
MLB. Price finished his 2015 campaign with an 18 5 record and a 2.45 ERA, but his most astonishing
numbers came from the second half of the season after he was traded from the Detroit Tigers to the
Toronto Blue Jays. After the trade he went 9 1 with a 2.30 ERA. Even more astonishing are his
numbers at Fenway Park, something that has Red Sox Nation elated. Over his career, Price has
amounted a 6 1 record with a cool 1.95 ERA at America s most beloved ballpark. ... Show more

the season, Price hit Ortiz with a pitch that started a virtual war between two teams. After that game,

The Weight of “Nothing” in King Lear by William Shakespeare
The Weight of Nothing in King Lear Though the word nothing connotes insignificance and emptiness
when taken out of context, it feels like one of the most significant and loaded words in King Lear. This
one word becomes a critical tool to help us reflect on the development of characters and their
relationships to one another throughout the play. The word nothing appears to play a crucial role in
defining the relationship between Lear and Cordelia, and consequently has an immense impact on the
fate and transformation of Lear. Nothing also helps draw a parallel between Lear and Edgar, and is
used by the Fool as more than just a means to inject cryptic wit. Because the word nothing seems
central to the play s conflicts and, as a result, permeates the plot and development of characters, this
response will draw out the word s significance by examining some instances in which it appears in
each act. Our first significant encounter with nothing happens when Lear says to Cordelia, Strive to be
interest. What can you say, to draw / A third more opulent than your sisters ? Speak (I.i.85) and
Cordelia responds, Nothing my lord (I.i.87). Lear repeats, Nothing? and Cordelia confirms, Nothing,
to which Lear responds, Nothing will come of nothing; speak again (I.i.88 90). When Lear says
Nothing will come of nothing, he is essentially determining that Cordelia will not receive anything
from him if her response does not change; but it seems that what Cordelia means

Work Breakdown Structure
Work breakdown structure
A Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in project management and systems engineering, is a tool that
defines a project and groups the project s discrete work elements in a way that helps organize and
define the total work scope of the project.[1]
[pic]
[pic]
Example of a work breakdown structure of an aircraft system.
A Work breakdown structure element may be a product, data, a service, or any combination. WBS also
provides the necessary framework for detailed cost estimating and control along with providing
guidance for schedule development and control. Additionally the WBS is a dynamic tool and can be
revised and updated as needed by the project manager.[1]

History
The concept of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) developed with the Program Evaluation and
Review Technique (PERT) in the United States Department of Defense (DoD). PERT was introduced
by the U.S. Navy in 1957 to support the development of its Polaris missile program. [1] While the
term work breakdown structure was not used, this first implementation of PERT did organize the tasks
into product oriented categories.[5]
By June of 1962, DoD, NASA and the aerospace industry published a guidance document for the
PERT/COST system which included an extensive description of the WBS approach. [6] This guide
was endorsed by the Secretary of Defense for adoption by all services.[7] In 1968, the DoD issued
Work Breakdown Structures for Defense Materiel Items (MIL STD 881), a military standard
mandating the use of work breakdown structures across the DoD. [8] This standard established top
level templates for common defense materiel items along with associated descriptions (WBS
dictionary) for their elements.
The document has been revised several times, most recently in 2005. The current version of this
guidance can be found in Work Breakdown Structures for Defense Materiel Items (MIL HDBK
881A).[9] It includes guidance for preparing work breakdown structures, templates for the top three
levels of typical systems, and a set of common

Summary Of A Good Book Of Mice And Men
In A Teachable Good Book: Of Mice and Men , Thomas Scarseth, presents examples to argue why
John Steinbeck s book, Of Mice and Men, is a good book to learn from. Even though people enjoy a
light, carefree story with a happy ending, Scarseth explains why the vulgar content of OMAM, that
would turn some readers away, is needed for the story to have meaning.
Referring to what great literature looks like, Thomas Scarseth has a decent idea. In his assessment,
Scarseth claims great writers and readers know that sour endings in literature works are sometimes
crucial. His opinions on what makes a great writer and reader makes sense because he is an English
professor at University of Wisconsin La Crosse. Because this is an essay and likely to be read by
scholars and students, it is reasonable that the author would say, But the greatest writers and the best
readers know that literature is not always only mere sugar candy; it can sometimes be a strong

on happy endings in literature. Realistic tragedy in literature is unpleasant to the people who believe in
idealistic happy endings. Unfortunately, tragic endings are necessary for prosperous knowledge, which
is what great readers and writers gain from these literature types called Tragedy. From here, it can be
argued that Scarseth is correct about the needed bitter endings. When reading, He pulled the trigger

Water Cycle And Its Effect On Earth
I don t think that I could explain how important water is for life on earth to survive without first
explaining what water is and how different it is than other substances. Water is unique in that it is the
only natural substance that is found on earth as a liquid, solid and gas. The water cycle of the earth
shows that it is constantly interacting, changing, and moving. The water cycle has five parts which are
evaporation, condensation, precipitation, infiltration and surface run off. This water cycle is critical to
life on earth as it provides potable water that all living organisms need. Water freezes at 32 degrees
and boils at 212 degrees. Water s freezing and boiling points are the baseline with which temperature
is measured on the Celsius scale. Water is lighter as a solid than a liquid. When water freezes it
expands adding about 9% by volume. Retrieved from http://www.funology.com/facts about weather
and nature/ (20141114) Fresh water has a maximum density at around 4° Celsius. Water is the only
substance on this planet where the maximum density of its mass does not occur when it becomes a
solid. Water is unusual in that in its solid form, ice, it is less dense than the liquid form. This is why
ice floats and this fact is what allows life to exist in lakes and rivers during the winter months. The
water in the seas and oceans contains a significant amount of salt that this lowers the freezing point of
the water and no ice forms from the sea or ocean. The ice found in

the landlord obtains a court ordered eviction based on the premise of the existence of such business,
Sam can use that as his defense since no exchange of goods has taken place with the chain store. In

Women s Marches Analysis
David Brooks, from the New York Times, asserts that the women s marches will not be effective
because they focus on the wrong issues such as climate change and equal pay (Brooks). These issues
are for the upper middle class and do not center around diversity, but rather prioritize identity politics
which is a tendency for people to form political alliances with those of the same religion, race,
ethnicity, etc. Diversity plays a major role in America and it is important for everyone to embrace it.
Brooks also says that another reason the women s marches will not be a success is because there is too
big a gap between the marches and the Democratic and Republican Parties (Brooks). In order for
something to occur, a political party has to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Being An Exchange Student
Home is where you feel at home and are treated well said Dalai Lama (BrainyQuote, n.d.). Do you
agree with the perception of feeling happy in anywhere that makes you feel good? Have you ever
thought about it? While in our lifetime, we experience a lot of roles, regardless of their causes and
effects in our life. These roles make every of us an actor of our own movie, put us on various duties
and lead us while we wander in a distinct adventure. Such roles include a wide range from being
parents, siblings, teachers, role models, to diplomats, leaders and many others. If one use them

Why The Driverless Cars Are The Future Of Travel
There has been much controversy over the claim that driverless cars are the future of travel. Many
people are uncertain of the new advances in the technology. This is why the idea that we could
possibly one day be riding in self driving with the assurance that everything is under control is
amazing (Weber.) In recent years developments have been underway to make driverless a reality, but
there are still many obstacles to try and overcome. The invention of anti lock brakes to cruise control
has greatly relieved the stress of driving for many travelers ( How a Driverless Car Will Benefit You. )
The progress of technology in modern times has greatly aided drivers. The stability of automobiles has

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hire Purchase
4. The terms of agreements are unlikely to be fair, for the hirer rarely deals on equal footing with the

BENEFITS OF THE HIRE PURCHASE AGREEMENT
There were two reasons for the adoption of the Hire Purchase Act which include: 1) To allow credit to
someone who is unable to pay cash for the goods he wants and who would be glad to pay some
deposit and there after pay the balance installment at a stipulated rate of interest. Since this encourages
people to demand more goods, the system has become an instrument of economic policy.

The Sport Of Powerlifting Is Serious
212 on deck! At this moment, I can hardly stand still while I wait for my turn to lift. I ve been up since
early this morning and have been waiting a couple of hours for my weight class to start. There have
been weeks of preparation just for this one day, the first of many for the season. The sport of
powerlifting is serious and the only way to be at the top of your class is to practice, increase your
lifted weigh and be prepared. Most people have limited knowledge of this sport, like I did when I first
began competing. However, once you find yourself at a powerlifting meet, there is no going back. The
sport is friendly yet competitive. For some, placing in their weight class is all that matters. Meanwhile,
others are focused on increasing their bench, squat or deadlift to beat their current best. At this
moment, all that matters to me is that I get all my lifts today.
Weeks later, everything about powerlifting meets seemed ordinary, I had begun to learn the ropes.
After weigh in, you could always find my team eating some sort of food involving peanut butter.
During this time, our coach took the opportunity to run through the basics with us. Which weight
classes everyone was in, which rack they would compete in, who was wrapping knees and the starting
weights. Then each athlete would have a moment to state their goal for the day. Looking back now,
this was our coach s way of allowing us to have control over our performance. For me, this goal

large audience, and regardless the commercial or public roots of the broadcast the basic structure of
the news bulletin remains unchanged. However when taking the key differences in ownership,

Because the country is located directly in the path of the hurricane belt, winds and rain are stronger,
bringing cooler temperatures and causing rainfall that varies from year to year with 53 inches in the
east regions, 82 inches in the northeast, and 17 inches in the west. This is typical for this region, and
cold temperatures are not at all experienced. Due to this particular type of climate, the country has
more than 50 percent of agricultural land use, and 40 percent forest area.
Surprisingly the flora and fauna is significantly low in the country. Although there is an abundance of
vast open land, it is only in the areas where precipitation is high that the grasslands are thicker and
heavier. One very common type of plant that grows throughout the island is the Royal palms, but
overall the land has been taken over for permanent agriculture which it occupies two fifths of the land.
This is evident in the areas with fertile soils such as the valleys and low mountain slopes. Just like the
plants, there are very few animal types that inhabit the land. Near the Yaque River and Lake Enriquillo
you will be able to find alligators and flamingos due to the swamp like environment. Within the coral
reefs you can find a small variety of fish such as yellowtail snapper and shellfish. Though there are
ducks, doves, and a variety of other birds they are only seasonal visitors to the island.

Social Media And Social Work
Social Media and Social Worker the Odd Couple Social media and social work, quite the odd couple.
This odd couple has now become closely entangled. According to the Article Communication
Technology Integration into Social Work Practice, 66% of the new social work graduates are social
media savvy. Social media has become an essential part of social work, but concerns have been raised.
Although we know the world is constantly changing, author Lindsey Getz notes:
The use of mobile technology in healthcare has secured a foothold. But while opportunities exist for
social workers to adopt these technologies in their practices, acceptance has been slow. The reluctance
is not surprising as the foundation of social work is built on human interaction. But the research and
experience thus far indicates that mobile application technology has the capability to support the
social worker client relationship.
One type of social media used by social workers are Cyber therapy, which is a three dimensional
virtual world making it possible for client and worker to work together by using digitally generated
caricature like images on their computer screens, and entering an online therapy community and

She argues that although the founding members of female religious orders were often close . . . four

Javouhey attempted to place her male relatives in positions that provided her with allies while giving
them work. For example, in 1839, she wrote to the Minister of the Navy, naming Louis Javouhey and
his two sons as her aides. Javouhey s use of family structure to accomplish her goals extended beyond

The Dust Bowl
The air is just full of dirt coming, literally, for hundreds of miles. It shifts into everything...
A quote from the diary of Ann Marie Low describing the powerful dust storms that she experienced
firsthand on her parents farm in the Great Plains.
During the 1930s, the southern regions of the Great Plains became known as the Dust Bowl due to the
severe droughts and dust storms that plagued this region experienced. Part of this occurrence can be
attributed to the farmers because, throughout the 1920s, many farmers had exhausted their farmland
through the overproduction of crops and destruction of the protective layer of prairie grasses by
plowing. This created several issues during the early 1930s when high winds and a drought hit the
region. With few trees to hold the eroded soil in place, the winds created massive dust storms that
spanned hundreds of miles. These storms, combined with the draught, devastated farmers and many
were forced to move further west. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The economic climate of the Great Depression intensified the effects of the Dust Bowl as many famers
were already struggling to repay debts and a loss of profits due to overproduction after World War I.
Some farmers were even evicted after they could not repay their debts. Such conditions led to a mass
migration of rural farmers to the western regions of the country. Most migrants, referred to
derogatively as Okies , followed Route 66 to California and other West Coast states. An estimated 2.5
million rural farmers migrated west during the 1930s and most found work as ranch hands or in the
agriculture industry. However, these migrants were discriminated against and faced both poor wages

Runway Description Of Runway Lighting
Runway lighting. Runway lighting is composed of several different types of lighting, with specific
colors and positions on the runway, conveying vital information to the pilot during night operations, or
operations during low visibility. Some airports will have Runway End Identifier Lights, which provide
positive identification of the approach end of the runway. These lights are located on each side of the
runway threshold, consist of a pair of synchronized flashing lights, and may be unidirectional facing
the approach area or omnidirectional. Runway Edge Lights are white lights used to mark the edges of
the runway. Used for night or low visibility operations, these lights are classified as high, medium, or
low intensity lights. On instrument runways, amber lights are used on the last half of the runway, or
2,000 feet, whichever is less, with red lights marking the end of the runway. Touchdown Zone Lights
are flush lights that consist of two rows of lights on either side of the runway center line that designate
the desired touchdown area of the runway. Runway Centerline Lights consist of a single row of white
lights, beginning 75 feet from the landing threshold, spaced at 50 foot intervals, and run the length of
the centerline of the runway. Taxiway Turnoff Lights are installed on some precision runways, they
consist of flush lights which emit a steady green color, and designate where taxiways intersect the

Structural approaches may also be necessary to protect coastal areas. Preparedness includes the
education of populations. People need to know the dangers and what they can do to avoid them. In
Florida, evacuation routes have been prepared and cyclone shelters are clearly signed and posted.
Planning includes land use planning. This regulation is used to reduce the vulnerability of people and
property so for example, only low value land uses (recreational) can occupy coastal strips, the areas
most vulnerable to a storm. In Northeast Florida, coastal properties have been rallied above the ground
on stilts and have non residential functions on the ground (storage). This means that hazards like the
storm surges do not impact the people and less damage occurs to infrastructure. Warning systems put
in place to predict incoming storms inform the public about them. This is linked with the effectiveness
of the government and how developed the country is. A less developed country is less likely to have
the money to be able to afford such technology and equipment meaning that no matter what form of
planning or preparedness occurs, mitigation is less likely to be achieved. More developed countries
have the money to install advanced technology and equipment to ensure that their population can be
warned meaning that lives can be saved. In late August 2005, Hurricane Katrina swept onto the coast

Victim Offender Mediation Research Paper
Utilitarianism and victim offender mediation (REFERENTIE). The moral philosopher Jeremy
Bentham developed an influential consequentialist philosophy of morality: utilitarianism. Bentham s
starting point in his philosophy is that feelings of pleasure and pain direct us in everything, and
thereby also direct us in determining what is right and wrong. He believes that pleasure/happiness is
intrinsically good, and pain/suffering is intrinsically bad. We strive for the most happiness by trying to
maximize pleasure and minimize pain. According to Bentham, the right thing to do is to search for the
greatest balance of pleasure over pain in choosing our actions. So in his philosophy, moral behavior is
completely dependent on the consequences related to our actions. When applying Bentham s
philosophy of morality to criminal justice and in specific victim offender mediation, the most
important question to ask is: does it maximize utility? Restorative justice practices are often compared
to the traditional criminal justice system, so in our modern day situation Bentham would like to know
which of these justice reactions allows for the greatest overall balance of pleasure/happiness over
pain/suffering. You can look at this problem in two ways: maximizing utility for the group of victims
and offenders, or maximizing utility for society. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tezcatlipoca Obsidian Mirror Analysis
Tezcatlipoca s mottled grey stone features irregular blotches over the figures surface, both specks of
black and color dance throughout the surface. The surface seems polished and refined. The scale of the
object is 7.3 in. x 6.4 in. x 3.5 in., making it slightly smaller than life size.
The face of a young man can be seen in this sculpture. The style employed by the artist is described as
simplistic naturalism. The face is near natural without abstracting any details. This style conveys
essential aspects in order to portray a human like face. Carved into the head are eyes, a nose, and a
mouth bearing its teeth. Decorating the top of the head are delicate engravings that could represent the
god s headdress. Within the headdress there are images ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Aztec state could have control of craft production, use, and distribution of such goods. The
precious materials used by the craftsmen were not always local to the Valley of Mexico. The
acquisition of such materials also occurred via the extensive trade networks and the economic control
of the Aztec over foreign territories.
The demand on craftsmen resulted in them paying their personal tribute through the products of their
labor. Both the crafts and the fine materials could have acted as tribute through their own merit. These
craft products were produced almost entirely for the nobility and government. The governing body
had control over the arts market in terms of professional activity of the craftsmen, exchange, and
distribution.
In many ways, masks represented the dominance over a groups goods and services. Masks were
involved in the tribute system to the powerful military Aztec state. Therefore, they had a deep
connection to the socio economic system of tribute demand. Masks worked as a mechanism to

Alternative Dispute Resolution, Or Adr
Alternative Dispute Resolution, or ADR is the phrase used to describe the different methods of ways
to resolve legal disputes outside of the court system. There are many advantages and disadvantages to
it, and they come in many different forms in England and Wales. These include administrative
tribunals, arbitration, mediation, adjudication, conciliation, negotiation, expert determination and the
ombudsmen services.
Administrative Tribunals come in many different forms and can cover many areas including
employment tribunals, lands tribunals and rent tribunals. The most common one being employment
tribunals. The distinction between Tribunals and the Courts have sometimes be blurred because it has
long been held that tribunals are just an administrative extension to the Court system and therefore
some argue that Tribunals are not a separate entity, There is some debate as to whether tribunals are
merely part of the machinery of administration of particular projects or whether their function is the
distinct one of adjudication, 1 However the main difference between tribunals and the courts is that
tribunals are much more specialised in nature, coming in many forms, some of which are stated above.
Administrative tribunals are also not staffed by judges, and are staffed be specialists in the particular
field in which the administrative tribunal is being held. For example, an employment tribunal would
be chaired by a panel of people who specialise in employment law.

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands,...
Tim Burton, producer, animator, and director, most commonly associated with his darker horror and
fantasy films, uses a array of cinematic techniques to display a message to viewers and keep them
more engaged in the storyline. After a thorough analyzation of three classic Burton films Charlie and
the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, and Corpse Bride, one can come to the realization the
Burton uses two techniques very effectively throughout each picture. These two techniques are,
Music/Sound, and Camera Angles, and Burton uses them primarily to convey feelings to the viewers
and keep them engaged.
In Burton s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Music and Sound is a cinematic technique used very
effectively to convey various feelings to the viewer. One specific scene comes to mind, the scene in
which Willy Wonka introduces the children and parents to the inside of the factory in the giant edible
field. As everybody enters that room, there is a non diegetic tune that accompanies a sense of
wonderment in the viewer. Soon, though, Wonka tells them to be cautious, and the music becomes
more uncertain, giving the viewer a feeling that something may happen. The technique of
Music/Sound is portrayed very effectively here, as it gives the viewer various elements of
foreshadowing and different feelings to get them absorbed into the film. The second technique,
Camera Angles, is also used effectively in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to convey different
feelings throughout the

Mercy Killing In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
The Murder of Mice is Not Equal To Men
A pool of water created by the Salinas River soaks up heat. The bright orange sun beats down on a
summer afternoon. The shouting of a man echoes through the land. Then another voice appears, it
seems to smooth the other. All is quiet. Boom! A murder has happened on the bank of the Salinas
River. This was the final scene of John Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men. A book of friendship, dreams,
and murder under the disguise of a mercy killing. In the book Of Mice and Men George and Lennie ,
the two protagonists of the story, were working at a ranch. Another character known only as Curley s
Wife, Baited the protagonist Lennie into feeling her hair after hearing he loved to touch soft things.

His killing of Lennie was not a mercy killing but a murder. George similar to Mr. Wise only wanted to
relive the pain of his loved one in his murder; however, this according to the courts was deemed not a
valid excuse to take one s life. Also similar to the case of George and Lennie. In the case of the murder
of the sister and wife both of their lives were taken without permission due to the killer s belief that
the pain they were in and were to be in for the rest of their life was reason enough to kill them. This
was similar to the case with George and Lennie since George wished to take the life of Lennie due to
him not wanting him to risk running away and dying alone or getting shot by Curly where he would be
in more pain. In addition, it was also proven the claim Lennie wished to die anyway by running away
to the mountains is false. This was disproven due to him stating how he would be living but not
thriving there by himself. Overall though the circumstances of the case, similar cases and their
verdicts and proving Lennie wish to still live it is safe to say the killing of Lennie was a

The list of potential pro inflammatory cytokines important in the pathogenesis of RA and other
autoimmune and inflammatory diseases has been extended by another cytokine interleukin IL 23. This
cytokine plays a potential role in immune modulation of different subpopulations of T helper (Th)
cells in concert with IL 12 (Lupardus and Garcia, 2008).
IL 23 is a pro inflammatory cytokine belonging to the IL 12 cytokine family. IL 23 is essential for the
differentiation of Th17 lymphocytes, a subtype of T lymphocyte implicated in chronic
inflammatory/autoimmune mediated diseases (Guo et al., 2013).
IL 23 is produced by several types of antigen presenting cells such as macrophages and denderitic
cells. IL 23 is found in the skin of patients with psoriasis, in the bowel of patients with chronic
inflammatory bowel disease and in synovial membrane of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. IL 23 is
involved in osteoclastogenesis, independently from IL 17, via induction of RANKL expression.
Debate continues to surround the role of IL 23 in the pathophysiology of inflammatory joint diseases
(rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis) (Duvallet et al., 2011).
Reports have indicated that in humans increased levels of IL 23 are associated with the several
autoimmune diseases including RA, Lyme arthritis, inflammatory bowel

Albert Camus The Stranger
Albert Camus The Stranger, illustrates the absurdity that Camus himself believes to be true about the
natural world. Camus view of the lack of control humans have on the world is one that is quite
extreme, but undoubtedly hard to argue against. The belief that there is no meaning to life, and no real
purpose, and no explanation to anything surrounding the world we live in has eluded its way from
Camus through Meursault; our main character. The piece designed portrays the emptiness that
Meursault feels when he faces ultimate doom, the expectation of a revelation is soon met with the
harsh reality he knew to be true from the beginning. Curiosity is a fundamental human emotion, the
piece captures the eye of the beholder by being vague yet intriguing,

  • 2. Stock Characters In Roman Comedy In Roman comedy, the use of stock characters helped to represent common archetypes in society. Stock characters were also used to allow for audiences to easily understand a production, as the characters were so commonly seen. In modern movies and specifically American comedy, stereotypical characters are often used that demonstrate society s beliefs about certain types of people. These characters are often used satirically to mock the stereotypes that lead people to judge others. Regardless of when stock characters are utilized, they point to the ideas that a society has about certain types of people during a specific time period. The stock character of the leno, or brothel keeper or pimp, is a character that many, if not all, Romans would have immediately recognized. The leno is represented in Plautus Pseudolus by a character named Ballio. He owns the love interest of Calidorus, master of Pseudolus, and is known for his greed and physical harshness towards his slaves. He is seen in the play constantly beating his slaves, and he calls them names such as whip spoilers (139), which indicates that Ballio beats them so much that his whip becomes spoiled. Ballio fits the classic definition of a leno, as he is extremely greedy and only cares about money. He compromises his morals constantly in order to make more money, and he almost seems proud to accept his bad character. The most important example of this is when he sells Phoenicium, Calidorus love interest, to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These characteristics can also cause the already identified students to not achieve to their fullest due to stress and lack of motivation. It is very hard to understand why students don t perform to their full potential when you know they are capable. This is known as underachievement. Both early researchers and more recent authors have defined underachievement in Social and Emotional Development of the Gifted 3 terms of a discrepancy between a child s school performance and some ability index such as an IQ score. (Delisle Galbraith, 2002). Gifted children who do not succeed in school are often successful in outside activities such as sports, social events, after school jobs, talent or hobby interests. (Delisle Galbraith, 2002). So we wonder what causes the underachievement. Bainbridge (2014), believes these problems result from gifted children being able to intellectually understand abstract concepts but are then unable to deal with those concepts emotionally. Ones physical development may also lead to an inability to complete a task that they are capable of intellectually envisioning. Perfectionism can lead to fear of failure, in turn causing a gifted child to avoid failure by refusing to even try something. (Bainbridge, 2014). This often leads to a lack of motivation among students. McCoach Siegle (2005), believe that motivated students appear to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Technically, three essential phases of a construction project, such as pre construction (planning, pre design, estimating costs, schematic design, and constructability review), construction (managing constructing process, tracking project schedule, and controlling costs), and post construction (closeout work and final completion) are specifically investigated together with proposed conceptually synergistic models of these factors. Investigating all possible components for a perfect ILB and evaluating this partnership s effects on project cost and schedule performance are spreading more and more knowledge and applications of ... • 7. Poverty Of The United States Hannah Grace Futrell Mrs. Weekman Honors English II 1 April 29, 2016 Child Poverty in the United States In the United States, about 24 million children live in poverty (Ingraham). Poverty is a big issue and has been for a while. It can affect children now and when they become adults. There are children going to bed hungry, not knowing where their next meal is coming from, but Compassion is a Christian organization working to stop child poverty around the world. First, the United States is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, but also has one of the highest poverty rates. The national median income is about $31,000 a year for a family of four and 22 percent of children live in families whose income is below the national poverty level (Ingraham). One in three children are living in poverty today (Ingraham). Next, poverty rates are increasing rapidly. Since 2008, the United States poverty rate has increased, but during the same time, 18 countries reduced their poverty rates (Ingraham). Between 2006 and 2011, the child poverty rate increased in 34 states, mainly in Nevada, Idaho, Hawaii, and New Mexico (Ingraham). Second, poverty also has an effect on students. There are more than half of public school students living in poverty and most students who live in poverty drop out of school and do not graduate or go to college (Kasperkevic). The Red Sox signed 30 year old lefty David Price to a 7 year, $217 million contract this past Tuesday. Price is one of the top starting pitchers in baseball. He won the 2012 American League Cy Young award after going 20 5 in the regular season. Boston won the David Price sweepstakes after months of talk about where he would land. Besides Boston, it is reported that Price was very interested in signing with either the Cubs, Cardinals, or the team he played for during part of the 2015 season, the Blue Jays. Price will undoubtedly improve the Red Sox struggling pitching staff, one that finished the season with a collective 4.39 earned run average and surrendered 178 home runs, the seventh most in the MLB. Price finished his 2015 campaign with an 18 5 record and a 2.45 ERA, but his most astonishing numbers came from the second half of the season after he was traded from the Detroit Tigers to the Toronto Blue Jays. After the trade he went 9 1 with a 2.30 ERA. Even more astonishing are his numbers at Fenway Park, something that has Red Sox Nation elated. • 10. The Weight of “Nothing” in King Lear by William Shakespeare The Weight of Nothing in King Lear Though the word nothing connotes insignificance and emptiness when taken out of context, it feels like one of the most significant and loaded words in King Lear. This one word becomes a critical tool to help us reflect on the development of characters and their relationships to one another throughout the play. The word nothing appears to play a crucial role in defining the relationship between Lear and Cordelia, and consequently has an immense impact on the fate and transformation of Lear. Nothing also helps draw a parallel between Lear and Edgar, and is used by the Fool as more than just a means to inject cryptic wit. Because the word nothing seems central to the play s conflicts and, as a result, permeates the plot and development of characters, this response will draw out the word s significance by examining some instances in which it appears in each act. Our first significant encounter with nothing happens when Lear says to Cordelia, Strive to be interest. What can you say, to draw / A third more opulent than your sisters ? Speak (I.i.85) and Cordelia responds, Nothing my lord (I.i.87). Lear repeats, Nothing? and Cordelia confirms, Nothing, to which Lear responds, Nothing will come of nothing; speak again (I.i.88 90). When Lear says Nothing will come of nothing, he is essentially determining that Cordelia will not receive anything from him if her response does not change; but it seems that what Cordelia means ... History The concept of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) developed with the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) in the United States Department of Defense (DoD). PERT was introduced by the U.S. Navy in 1957 to support the development of its Polaris missile program. [1] While the term work breakdown structure was not used, this first implementation of PERT did organize the tasks into product oriented categories.[5] By June of 1962, DoD, NASA and the aerospace industry published a guidance document for the PERT/COST system which included an extensive description of the WBS approach. [6] This guide was endorsed by the Secretary of Defense for adoption by all services.[7] In 1968, the DoD issued Work Breakdown Structures for Defense Materiel Items (MIL STD 881), a military standard mandating the use of work breakdown structures across the DoD. [8] This standard established top level templates for common defense materiel items along with associated descriptions (WBS dictionary) for their elements. The document has been revised several times, most recently in 2005. Even though people enjoy a light, carefree story with a happy ending, Scarseth explains why the vulgar content of OMAM, that would turn some readers away, is needed for the story to have meaning. Referring to what great literature looks like, Thomas Scarseth has a decent idea. In his assessment, Scarseth claims great writers and readers know that sour endings in literature works are sometimes crucial. His opinions on what makes a great writer and reader makes sense because he is an English professor at University of Wisconsin La Crosse. Water Cycle And Its Effect On Earth I don t think that I could explain how important water is for life on earth to survive without first explaining what water is and how different it is than other substances. Water is unique in that it is the only natural substance that is found on earth as a liquid, solid and gas. The water cycle of the earth shows that it is constantly interacting, changing, and moving. The water cycle has five parts which are evaporation, condensation, precipitation, infiltration and surface run off. This water cycle is critical to life on earth as it provides potable water that all living organisms need. Water freezes at 32 degrees and boils at 212 degrees. Water s freezing and boiling points are the baseline with which temperature is measured on the Celsius scale. Water is lighter as a solid than a liquid. When water freezes it expands adding about 9% by volume. Retrieved from http://www.funology.com/facts about weather and nature/ (20141114) Fresh water has a maximum density at around 4° Celsius. Water is the only substance on this planet where the maximum density of its mass does not occur when it becomes a solid. Water is unusual in that in its solid form, ice, it is less dense than the liquid form. This is why ice floats and this fact is what allows life to exist in lakes and rivers during the winter months. I ve been up since early this morning and have been waiting a couple of hours for my weight class to start. There have been weeks of preparation just for this one day, the first of many for the season. The sport of powerlifting is serious and the only way to be at the top of your class is to practice, increase your lifted weigh and be prepared. Most people have limited knowledge of this sport, like I did when I first began competing. However, once you find yourself at a powerlifting meet, there is no going back. The sport is friendly yet competitive. For some, placing in their weight class is all that matters. Meanwhile, others are focused on increasing their bench, squat or deadlift to beat their current best. At this moment, all that matters to me is that I get all my lifts today. Weeks later, everything about powerlifting meets seemed ordinary, I had begun to learn the ropes. After weigh in, you could always find my team eating some sort of food involving peanut butter. During this time, our coach took the opportunity to run through the basics with us. Which weight classes everyone was in, which rack they would compete in, who was wrapping knees and the starting weights. Then each athlete would have a moment to state their goal for the day. Looking back now, this was our coach s way of allowing us to have control over our performance. For me, this goal setting was incredibly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Part of this occurrence can be attributed to the farmers because, throughout the 1920s, many farmers had exhausted their farmland through the overproduction of crops and destruction of the protective layer of prairie grasses by plowing. This created several issues during the early 1930s when high winds and a drought hit the region. • 39. Victim Offender Mediation Research Paper Utilitarianism and victim offender mediation (REFERENTIE). The moral philosopher Jeremy Bentham developed an influential consequentialist philosophy of morality: utilitarianism. Bentham s starting point in his philosophy is that feelings of pleasure and pain direct us in everything, and thereby also direct us in determining what is right and wrong. He believes that pleasure/happiness is intrinsically good, and pain/suffering is intrinsically bad. We strive for the most happiness by trying to maximize pleasure and minimize pain. According to Bentham, the right thing to do is to search for the greatest balance of pleasure over pain in choosing our actions. So in his philosophy, moral behavior is completely dependent on the consequences related to our actions. When applying Bentham s philosophy of morality to criminal justice and in specific victim offender mediation, the most important question to ask is: does it maximize utility? Restorative justice practices are often compared to the traditional criminal justice system, so in our modern day situation Bentham would like to know which of these justice reactions allows for the greatest overall balance of pleasure/happiness over pain/suffering. The list of potential pro inflammatory cytokines important in the pathogenesis of RA and other autoimmune and inflammatory diseases has been extended by another cytokine interleukin IL 23. This cytokine plays a potential role in immune modulation of different subpopulations of T helper (Th) cells in concert with IL 12 (Lupardus and Garcia, 2008). IL 23 is a pro inflammatory cytokine belonging to the IL 12 cytokine family. IL 23 is essential for the differentiation of Th17 lymphocytes, a subtype of T lymphocyte implicated in chronic inflammatory/autoimmune mediated diseases (Guo et al., 2013). IL 23 is produced by several types of antigen presenting cells such as macrophages and denderitic cells. IL 23 is found in the skin of patients with psoriasis, in the bowel of patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease and in synovial membrane of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. IL 23 is involved in osteoclastogenesis, independently from IL 17, via induction of RANKL expression. Debate continues to surround the role of IL 23 in the pathophysiology of inflammatory joint diseases (rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis) (Duvallet et al., 2011). Reports have indicated that in humans increased levels of IL 23 are associated with the several autoimmune diseases including RA, Lyme arthritis, inflammatory bowel ... Camus view of the lack of control humans have on the world is one that is quite extreme, but undoubtedly hard to argue against. The belief that there is no meaning to life, and no real purpose, and no explanation to anything surrounding the world we live in has eluded its way from Camus through Meursault; our main character. The piece designed portrays the emptiness that Meursault feels when he faces ultimate doom, the expectation of a revelation is soon met with the harsh reality he knew to be true from the beginning. Curiosity is a fundamental human emotion, the piece captures the eye of the beholder by being vague yet intriguing, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
