A Report On The Environmental Crisis Of The Rainforest Fund
Our eco action was something a little different than the projects we happened to see from other
groups, our goal was to brew alcoholic cider in an attempt to provide less waste compared t the waste
put into bot producing and shipping and packaging various ciders. We believed through our brewing
process using local ingredients we would be able to provide cider that would lessen the environmental
impact that other ciders put into the world. As an extension of this idea, we wanted to make a vow to
buy our alcoholic beverages in bulk sizes whenever the opportunity was presented, and lessen the
amount we drank. This venture was more of a side project as we knew that the cider might turn out
horribly or we could make a potential mistake, along with this we would donate the money from our
cans to a cause that provides environmental stability in the Rainforest fund.
Firstly, the brewing process was one that Brayden was able to teach us, as e had previous experience
with brewing alcohol and also owned all the equipment necessary to bring our idea to reality. I would
say the amount of time spent brewing, and the challenges we faced were a little tiresome in my
opinion; however, it was a fun time and I would love to try again. I am saying try again as our project
didn t go as anticipated. A fatal flaw in our ingredients, the adding of brown sugar as primer, led to the
unfortunate demise of our cider with the untimely explosion of the bottle. This caused all our hard
work and

America s Identity Crisis Analysis
What does it mean to be American What does it mean to be american? The heritage of the american
society plays a major role. Sadly though the american heritage is getting left behind. The americans
are forgetting about the heritage and our american identity is in a crisis. We must solve this crisis and
inform the american people about their past ancestors. In America s identity crisis we learn about how
modern day people don t care to learn about their ancestors. In America s identity crisis solved we
learn about what we can do knowing about our ancestors and also what we should do. Americans are

Education During The Progressive Era
During the early twentieth century in the United States of America there were several national reform
movements that comprise the Progressive Era. There are a few different varieties of Progressivism that
focused on receiving governmental aid in improving American life. Individuals involved in the
reforms associated themselves as Progressives and focused on issues such as education, labor matters,
inequality, women s rights, and political and government corruption. The impact of education on the
American youth in the early twentieth century was based on methods to produce useful American
citizens. Progressives struggled to extend school programs to include realistic components into the
education young children should receive. Progressive education ... Show more content on

productive system was needed in order to help change the goals of education. Addams wanted factory
working children to at least become knowledgeable of the history of the industrial world that they
were unfortunately a part of. She preferred that children should not be working at such a young age
and should be focusing more on receiving an education. She believed that during this time education
was not humane. Addams wanted settlement workers to be a part of a pedagogical innovation that
would play a central role in the educational reform movement. () Addams spent four years in the
Chicago Board of Education and advocated the importance of smaller classes, improved facilities and
better trained teachers. () The social work profession helped with the concept of socialized education

Hoplites Into Democracy Analysis
In his 1996 work titled Hoplites into Democrats: The Changing Ideology of Athenian Infantry, Victor
Hanson analyzes the timeline of the Athenian government as it transitions into a democracy and the
effect this transition had on their warfare culture. Throughout the article, Hanson refers to the seventh
and sixth century BC as the normative polis before democracy when the government was timocratical
and Athens was an early agrarian polis; and then continues his article to emphasize the fifth and fourth
centuries BC during the political reforms and the emergence of democracy as the main form of
government. Hanson mentions the tensions that arose between landowners and non landowners as the
government transitioned from timocratic to democratic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With continuous war and battles being fought, the Athenian farmers gained profits because of greater
opportunity for theft (301). Hanson pulls from the fragmented works of an anonymous Oxyrhynchus
Historian to support his plundering claim. The historian writes that the Athenian countryside was the
most lavishly furnished in Greece (300). Hanson draws to the conclusion that Attic farmers in the fifth
century BC often took rural property from conquered subjects and then re employed it on their own
farms (301). With money being the new standard of privilege, as stated earlier, farmers utilized the
lavish material items they plundered to gain economic status within their culture. Another policy that
Attic farmers enjoyed under democracy was the introduction of pay for hoplite military service...
sometime around the mid fifth century BC (301). Hanson notes that Athenian farmers were
discovering the attractions democracy had to offer (301) since compensation was nonexistent during
agrarian warfare because it was a necessity to fight to save the farm. The burden of battle shifted
between the old regime, where the agrarian community faced battle alone, and the new regime, where
the burden was on the entire polis to fight for each other s land (301). As generations continued, a new
kind of self interested Athenian hoplite became prevalent due to their

Difference Between Food And Organic Food
Organic Food Versus Body and Environment In a day and age where the type of food we eat is
discussed all over the media, it can be hard to tell what is true and what is simply another marketing
ploy. In regards to organic food, there is definitely a lot of opinions surrounding the authenticity of
claims to their health and environmental benefits. Many people swear that by eating organic, you can
prevent illnesses such as cancer. While others argue that organic food is the answer to saving our
environment from the harmful chemicals that conventional farming produces. Some even go as far to
calm that organic foods may be another way to differentiate between social classes (Isenhour). With so
many different opinions, it can be difficult to decide what kind of food you should be feeding your
body. As a result of my interest in this widely controversial topic, the question that I will be answering
is whether or not organic foods are beneficial to stave off future disease and if they are actually better
for the earth. According to my research, organic foods have very little evidence supporting the idea
that they are healthier for our bodies, but have the potential to improve our environment with a little
more research. For a food to be considered organic, it must possess certain qualities. According to the
USDA, the dirt that an organic food is planted in can t have had prohibited things put in the soil in the
last three years. Animals must be kept in natural environments that

Monologue Of The Legend Of Alice
Proverbs 11:13
A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret. In the year 1560, in England
lived two girls and they were cousins. Their names are Lady Rose Woodly and Lady Alice Woodly.
They were both daughters of a wealthy Duke and Duchess. Rose was kindhearted, beautiful inside and
out, and smart. Alice was not so kind, she was self centered, and although she was smart she spent
most of her time pretending to be clueless just to annoy people.
Alice
On a Sunday I came over to Rose s castle for Sunday brunch in the garden. When I was on her way to
the garden she overheard Rose s father talking about a problem because of they were harboring the
bandits in their dungeon called, Ruthless Bandits. I always harbored a grudge against Rose for being
so good and kind. But finally I saw an to make a total fool out of Rose by just bending the truth about
this...a lot. Before the Duke could see me, I continued walking towards the sanctuary in the garden

How Do Honey Bees Communicate
How the honey bees communicate? They are not using the hum vibrations emitted by the wings to
pass the information. Experiments show that honey bees are no auditory organs, they will not hear any
sound. Honey bees use dance language and pheromones to communicate and share information with
one another. When a honey bee discovers a new food source, it will tell the other honey bees about its
location through the honey bee dance.
There are three types of honey bee dances that are the round dance, the tail wagging or waggle dance
and sickle dance. Round dance (figure 1) is a series of narrow circular movements. This is used to
indicate that the presence of food is within 50 meters of the hive. The honey bees may repeat the
dance several times at the same location or move to the other location on the honeycomb to repeat it.

example: a waggle straight up the comb is a direction straight toward the sun and a waggle down the

Lenore Walker Cycle
One may wonder why some individuals remain in the cycle of domestic violence even after instances
of abuse. Should it not be easy for an individual to leave a partner who is inflicting pain and stress on
him or her? Lenore Walker s (1979) model for the cycle of domestic violence explores the phases of
domestic violence, the different types of abuse, and how these various phases contribute to the
continuation of the cycle. Domestic violence is often diagnosed by obvious signs of physical abuse;
however there are other unnoticeable patterns that one may not be able to immediately observe with
the naked eye. Furthermore, domestic violence affects not only those who directly experience the
abuse, but also those who are witnessing it, such as children (Behind Closed Doors, n.d.; Black,
Sussman, Unger, 2010). It is important to recognize the the less obvious markers of intimate partner
violence in order to break these patterns and work towards ending the cycles of transgenerational
violence. In the model for cycle of domestic violence developed by Lenore Walker (1979), there are
three phases in the cycle of abuse: tension building phase, acute battering phase, and the honeymoon
phase. The tension building phase typically involves verbal abuse and conflict over matters such as
finance and family (Walker, 1979). This first phase eventually leads to the battering phase, where
physical abuse begins. Part of the reason why individuals who experience domestic violence do not

Sociology Of Violence
Aggression and war typically are not seen in various forms. One could argue that war is not always
where violent acts are seen, in the sense of cold wars, so it is can also be said to be a stage for
aggressive, rather than violent, acts. However, violence has multiple variations including: mental
violence, symbolic violence, and lastly as studied, political violence, that cultural anthropologists have
significantly improved the understanding of. Before delving into the different categories of violence, it
is important to understand that the uses of violence also vary. When examining violence, it is crucial
to discern the action from the perspective of the perpetrator. (Hansen, 367) As seen in Riches dynamic
triangle of violence, those who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, violence does not need to be a physical act, it can also be mental or symbolic. This is someone s
ability to maintain a permanent hold on another person based on economic or practical commitments.
(Hansen, 369) Many scholars will find this does not classify being labeled as violence. However,
symbolic violence is something that is consistently seen in states. Symbolic violence is an important
tool commonly used by states in the ordering of relationships of superiors and inferiors. States are able
to justify their infliction of terror by saying their own actions are just a reaction to the symbolic
violence that is implicit in opposition. (Nagengast, 111) This is where we begin to see the topic of
political violence finally discussed. First and foremost, it is important to clarify that political violence
may or may not be direct violence. (Nagengast, 114) A state may take actions such as limiting food
sent to poorer people, hurting their chances of survival without actually physically hurting them. State
violence can be referred to by using the term terror. Terror is used by the states in order to maintain the
status

Arian Controversy Analysis
In the 4th and 5th centuries, the early church was going through change. After a period of persecution
against Christians, the Edict of Milan established a policy for the toleration of Christianity under
Constantine. Constantine was the first Roman emperor to embrace Christianity and he himself became
a Christian. The Ecumenical Councils were encouraged by Constantine. The gatherings included
church leaders and others who met to affirm the teachings of the church and to tackle heresy. The topic
of controversy was over the relationship between the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The Arian controversy caused Constantine to call for the Council of Nicaea, which was the first of the
Ecumenical Councils. Arias denied the deity of Jesus. He believed that Jesus was subordinate to God
the Father and that the Holy Spirit was subordinate to Jesus. Arias believed that the Father was God,
but Jesus and the Holy Spirit were not. Instead, he believed that Jesus was a creature who had a
beginning, while God was eternal and had no beginning. He did not believe that Jesus was of the same
substance [homoousios] of the Father. Athanasius stood up at the Council of Nicaea and opposed the

the 4th and 5th century church helped define and defended the Trinity doctrine from heresy. It is
important that contemporary Christians learn about the Nicene Creed because it is part of the history
that brought us [the invisible church] to where we are,

Memory is a powerful concept. Often when an individual undergoes a traumatic situation, the
ramifications of these actions seep into an individualĀfs psyche unknowingly. In effect this passes

On another occasion, after HannaĀfs death, it is documented that Michael once again subconsciously
desires her presence. Michael dreams of Hanna while travelling through the countryside to bid
HannaĀfs final wishes.
ĀgI dreamed of Hanna and myself in a house in the autumn blazed hills that were lining our route.
Hanna was older than when I had met her and younger than when I had met her again, older than me,
more attractive than in earlier years, more relaxed in her movements with age, more at home in her
own body. I saw her getting out of the car and picking up shopping bags, saw her going through the
garden into the house, saw her set down the bags and go upstairs ahead of me. My longing for Hanna
became so strong that it hurt. I struggled against the longing, argued that it went against HannaĀfs and
my reality, the reality of our ages, the reality of our circumstancesĀh.
The interior narration here allows the focus to hold a contemplative and introspective view of
Michaels thought patterns. He remembers his dreams and notes them as being irrational and beyond

Tissue Engineering Research
By living in a broken world, people become subjected to devastation and times of hopelessness. Some
encounter this through job struggles or family disputes. Others encounter it while waiting at death s
door, waiting for an organ transplant. On January 8, 2014, 120,990 people were waiting for an organ
transplant, wondering if they will be added to the 3,381 people who died last year waiting for a new
kidney or wondering if they will become one of the 26,000 people in the United States who die each
year from end stage liver disease (Kaihara and Vacanti; National Kidney Foundation). Every 20
minutes, a person is added to the kidney waitlist and each day, 14 people die while waiting for a
kidney transplant (National Kidney Foundation). These numbers cannot be ignored because blindness
only results in loss of life.
Currently, alternatives, such as mechanical devices and artificial prostheses, don t repair tissue or
organ functions because they are not intended for integrating host tissues, and if these alternatives are
used for long term implantation, the recipient could suffer from an inflammatory response (Chapekar).
For illnesses such as end stage liver disease, the only successful treatment is through transplant, and
the odds of receiving a new liver is improbable (Kaihara and Vacanti). Another treatment must be
discovered. In 1988, a NSF sponsored meeting defined a new treatment idea called tissue engineering:

Tragic Drama According to AC Bradley s Theory of...
Part one: Tragic drama according to A.C. Bradley s theory of Shakespeare
The substance of Shakespeare s tragedy solely points out to the power of death. In this five act play,
the death of important characters suffices for the cruel reality of life. However, a completely realm is
required in order to observe Shakespeare s version of tragedy. Shakespeare has used tragedy to explain
on the major paradoxes of life. It can be called a Paradox of disappointment. Defeat, unfulfilled
desired, failed hopes and then finally death are some of the faces of tragedies faced by Human. These
are realities of life and cannot be avoided. Although they form the foundation of our lives but are still
considered as intruders to our ideal version of life. This is the reason why when we are confronted by
tragic literature in this particular paradox, we become fascinated.
Bradley emphasizes on viewing the literary techniques used not as the basic constituents but as the
expression of tragedy. Some of the major characters in Shakespeare s renowned tragedies are Hamlet,
King Lear, Othello, and Macbeth. Most of these characters are individual sufferers as in reality; a
single man faces the paradoxes of life. In every work of Shakespeare, irrespective of the individually
unique traits, we find a shattered hope or a failed ambition as a reason for frustration. Hence, it is the
disappointment paradox which serves as the substance of any tragedy as per Shakespeare.
Furthermore, it is the death itself

Your Body s Response to Emergency
How does the body prepare for emergencies? The answer lies in the Sympathetic Nervous System
(SNS). It is the branch of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) that controls the body s reaction to
physical and emotional stressors. The sympathetic branch activates the glands and organs that defend
the body against attack. It is called the fight or flight response.
This is a primitive response designed to protect from danger. When danger is perceived, the
sympathetic nervous system responds immediately to prepare a person to stay and fight or take flight.
Blood rushes away from nonessential systems such as the digestive and excretory systems and is
redirected to the extremities. The heart beats faster to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The glucose obtained from the liver cells produces a surge in energy better known as an adrenaline
rush . The hormones also bind to receptor cells on smooth muscle and inhibit the muscles of the
stomach and intestines, slowing down the digestive process and allowing more energy for emergency
functions. When these hormones bind to the smooth muscle cells of the bronchioles, they cause the
muscles to relax allowing more oxygen into the blood. At the sinoatrial node of the heart, epinephrine
stimulates the pace maker cells to beat faster. Epinephrine also contracts certain types of muscles
below the skin, causing beads of sweat and raised hairs. Once fight or flight has taken place, another
branch of the ANS, the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) can take over again, calming
everything down and returning body processes to normal.
The fight or flight response is useful in the short term because it assists the body in responding quickly
and effectively in emergencies. However in the long term, the sympathetic response can become
harmful. This is because the functions of sympathetic activation can put additional stress on the
nervous system. If the sympathetic system remains highly active, the parasympathetic response will
not activate and return the body to homeostasis. This means the body does not get the chance to
recover from stress causing a number of physical and psychological disorders.
In conclusion, the brain is a complex organ with the ability to cause

When Brown tells Satan that he wants to return back to his faith because of his guilty conscience,
Satan tells him You will think better of this by and by...Let us walk on, nevertheless, reasoning as we
go, and if I convince thee not, thou shalt turn back. We are but a little way in the forest, yet
(Hawthorne 263). Then, Brown begins to think that he can leave Faith just for a little while and after
this one night, I ll cling to her skirts and follow her to Heaven (Hawthorne 262). With this excellent
resolve for the future, Goodman Brown felt himself justified in making more haste on his present evil
purpose (Hawthorne 262). In the essay Young Goodman Brown : Hawthorne s Condemnation of
Conformity , Terence J. Matheson describes Brown s condition perfectly by writing that Brown thinks
he can consciously perform secret acts of evil and return, unscathed, to the fold of true virtue; that...
while simultaneously doing evil things, he can still be virtuous and get to Heaven (293). Thus, Brown
struggles with his faith in the Lord because he believes Satan s lie that he can leave faith and return to
it at any time he pleases. Ultimately, Brown loses his faith in God because he decides to believe Satan
s lie that sin is part of his nature, that he will find happiness on the path of sin, and that he can leave
his faith and return to it at any

Good And Evil In The Tell-Tale Heart
Some would say good and some would say evil, some would say that humans are both, unless forced
to take a side. Human s do have good in them, for if they didn t there would be no kindness in the
world, for example taking the time to help a troubled old lady cross a busy street. Of course to be a
human you are going to have a small amount of evil residing inside of you, for all humans have been
selfish at some point in their life. Hopefully, you get the idea now, that I believe that humans are
inherently evil. People can become evil from fear. In the short story The Tell Tale Heart , is about a
man who is filled with loath towards an older man s eyes, I think it was his eye! yes, it was this!... I

As his given job at age 12, he became the new receiver. The old receiver becomes the Giver and
transmits his memories that he was given to Jonas. And during one of his transmutations it was
described like this, She rocked him and rubbed her cheek against his (Lowery pg.123). This was
during a memory the Giver transmuted into Jonas, but in their world now they no longer have any
physical touching in between each other, such as they are not allowed to touch people who are outside
of their family unit, and the families themselves already do not touch each other very often. On a
separate occasion, the Giver was explaining to Jonas about color, There was a time, actually when
flesh was many different colors... We ve never completely mastered Sameness. I suppose the genetic
scientists are still hard at work trying to work the kinks out... (Lowery pg. 94 95). This could show
that the scientists want to make it so that nobody is different for each other, but when they do that,
when they reach total Sameness, it will erase all of the differences of the world, and the differences
between our looks will disappear forever. And they will be cursed to forever look the

United States, U.s. V. Nixon
Not to be confused with Nixon v. United States, U.S. v. Nixon was a crucial case of the
Supreme Court during a time of political scandal. On the night of June 17th, 1972, five men
broke into the Democratic National Committee in an attempt to gain secrets that would help
Nixon win the re election. The men were found to be connected to Nixon himself. Upon being
caught, all hell broke loose for Nixon s presidency and there was no turning back. Upon further
investigation by Congress, Nixon was committing illegal acts other than that of burglary. It was
discovered that the tapes Nixon used to record his conversations in the Oval Office would be
beneficial in the sense that they contained all the proof needed to impeach the president. The
president argued that this damning information needed not be shared with the community and
was protected by his executive privileges. The entire situation became known as the Watergate
scandal and exploded in popularity with the help of the media. After it was all said and done, the
Supreme Court ruled that Nixon was being unconstitutional. This is undoubtedly true due to the
fact a president is supposed to help a country grow stronger, not tear it apart.
In November of 1968, Richard Nixon, a former vice president, gains the title of president
beating Hubert Humphrey in a strikingly close election. However, his presidency was soon met
with difficulty and scandal. By 1971, the Pentagon Papers had been leaked to the

Essay On Lower House Of Government
The United States and France are two countries with similar ways of electing the lower house of
government. Both countries are divided into districts with single member representation. However, the
United States uses a majority system, first past the post, while France uses a majority plurality, two
round system. With each system there are separate advantages and disadvantages. Nonetheless, the
first past the post system used in the United States is more efficient, cost effective, and
comprehendible to the average person. The United States of America elects the lower house of
government using simple majority. This system can also be described as a plurality, or first past the
post. The United States is divided into 435 different districts by population, with one individual
representing each constituency. Members of the House of Representatives, the lower house of
government in the United States, are elected every two years. (Parline Database, 2016) The methods
by which candidates are brought to the ballot vary by state. However, most states use a partisan
primary to bring candidates to the final ballot. For example, Washington State uses the top two method
to bring candidates to the ballot. Under this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under plurality, the individual who receives the most votes receives the seat in the House of
Representatives. The individual may not always receive the majority of votes because more than two
individuals may receive votes. This leads to wasted votes in that everyone who voted for the losing
candidate does not have their vote represented. In addition, more seats may be given to a political
party than votes received. If a political party receives a plurality of votes with thirty percent
nationwide, they may be the new majority party but seventy percent of the country still voted for
somebody else. (Hoard,

The s Influence On Their Home State
4. How Diasporas Engage their Home State
Diasporas can influence their home states in three primary manners. First, diaspora use remittances to
a) help and to influence family, religious and ethnic members and interest groups and b) to a lesser and
more recent degree, influence the state in particular ways. Second, diaspora engage in home state
political party mobilization in order to influence home state politics and economics. Third, a diaspora
uses its host state political and economic apparatuses to influence their home state.
I. Remittances
Remittances remain the most widely studied and most enticing to sending states governments of ways
a diaspora engages its host state. Estimates of total remittances to the African continent ... Show more

In 2009, the World Bank declared its 5x5 Initiative which aimed to reduce the cost of financial transfer
from 10% of the total value of the transfer in 2009 to 5% in 2014. While the global average cost has
decreased to 7.9% by the 3rd quarter of 2014, many prices of money transfer to sub Saharan Africa
remain above 10% at 11.28%. Today, Money Transfer Operations remain substantially cheaper than
commercial banks (about 5% cheaper). The international community has particularly focused on
ensuring transparency in pricing with laws such as the United States Dodd Frank law which mandates
that an individual knows the full cost of transferring money overseas at the moment that she/he sends
the order. The hope of reducing costs and increasing transparency is to allow remittances to create
income generating activities.
To accomplish this goal within sub Saharan Africa, where 70% of all money transfers are controlled
by a single company, greater competition is needed to drive prices down.
Although there has been a significant effort in this area, sending states must be convinced that their tax
system should be designed to reward remittance investment into business development and
infrastructure so as to build a strong tax base rather than to seek quick profits from hefty taxes on the
incoming remittances.
B. Improving Efficiency of Remittances

Trying to Understand Bundling
Bundling: Bundling is a term that refers to the process of transportation of goods belonging to various
flows in a common vehicle intermodal unit such as truck, train or barge or other segments during part
of their journey. As a result, this process is a major business of the transportation sector given that
operators occasionally examine their service networks and change their bundling operations. The
adjustments made in bundling operations are usually a reaction to changing cost structures, situations,
and competition with regards to the requirements of demand and performance. During the
adjustments, the operators basically change the bundling type, extent of network concentration,
frequency of service, vehicle load, and utilized physical means (Kreutzberger, 2010, p.160). Generally,
the major factors for adjustments are changes in flow directions and sizes and the operator s share in
the market. According to market players in the maritime transport, inland logistics are one of the most
significant segments still enhancing economic signals in order to add value and enhance profitability.
Bundling is regarded as one of the most probable solutions on ways to enhance the intermodal
transport and could also improve competitiveness. As a result, the concept or process enables
resolving suitable intermodal conditions since it can be utilized in situations where container flows are
not economically adequate to meet the needs of a direct service. Bundling process is

Title IX Essay example
Title IX Title IX was passed by the U.S. Congress on June 23, 1972, and signed by President Richard
M. Nixon on July 1, 1972. It is a civil rights law prohibiting discrimination in education programs and
activities receiving federal funds. It was the first comprehensive federal law to prohibit sex
discrimination against students and employees in these institutions. (U.S. Department of Education,
1997) Title IX did much more than what the average mind thinks of when they hear the words: Title
IX. I personally was interested in what people thought of when they heard this and did two simple
interviews, one of my grandpa s, a 73 year old man, and also interviewed my friend, Samm, who is a

There is a connection between the Title IX law and improvements in key areas such as access to
higher education, career education, employment, learning environment, math and science, sexual
harassment, standardized testing, and treatment of pregnant and parenting teens. (Women s Equity
Resource Center, 2003) How in the world does that relate to me you ask? Well, before this law many
schools and universities had separate entrances for male and female students. Honestly, did it really
matter what door you came in? Apparently, it did. I can see them having a problem with males and
females being in the same dormitories, for obvious reasons, but not letting a man and woman walk in
the same door to get to a classroom? That s a little ridiculous if you ask me. I know I could have never
lived happily in the past generations, because I have had the freedom of being my own self and having
the freedoms of every other race, gender, and social status for the most part. The effect Title IX has
played in my life comes in some major issues, as well as simple things such as being allowed to walk
through the same door as the man in front of me. What else did Title IX impact you ask? Being a
college student, a woman college student, I really appreciate the times now. According to Women s

  • 2. A Report On The Environmental Crisis Of The Rainforest Fund Our eco action was something a little different than the projects we happened to see from other groups, our goal was to brew alcoholic cider in an attempt to provide less waste compared t the waste put into bot producing and shipping and packaging various ciders. We believed through our brewing process using local ingredients we would be able to provide cider that would lessen the environmental impact that other ciders put into the world. As an extension of this idea, we wanted to make a vow to buy our alcoholic beverages in bulk sizes whenever the opportunity was presented, and lessen the amount we drank. This venture was more of a side project as we knew that the cider might turn out horribly or we could make a potential mistake, along with this we would donate the money from our cans to a cause that provides environmental stability in the Rainforest fund. Firstly, the brewing process was one that Brayden was able to teach us, as e had previous experience with brewing alcohol and also owned all the equipment necessary to bring our idea to reality. I would say the amount of time spent brewing, and the challenges we faced were a little tiresome in my opinion; however, it was a fun time and I would love to try again. I am saying try again as our project didn t go as anticipated. A fatal flaw in our ingredients, the adding of brown sugar as primer, led to the unfortunate demise of our cider with the untimely explosion of the bottle. This caused all our hard work and ... There are a few different varieties of Progressivism that focused on receiving governmental aid in improving American life. Individuals involved in the reforms associated themselves as Progressives and focused on issues such as education, labor matters, inequality, women s rights, and political and government corruption. Addams wanted factory working children to at least become knowledgeable of the history of the industrial world that they were unfortunately a part of. She preferred that children should not be working at such a young age and should be focusing more on receiving an education. She believed that during this time education was not humane. Addams wanted settlement workers to be a part of a pedagogical innovation that would play a central role in the educational reform movement. • 5. Hoplites Into Democracy Analysis In his 1996 work titled Hoplites into Democrats: The Changing Ideology of Athenian Infantry, Victor Hanson analyzes the timeline of the Athenian government as it transitions into a democracy and the effect this transition had on their warfare culture. Throughout the article, Hanson refers to the seventh and sixth century BC as the normative polis before democracy when the government was timocratical and Athens was an early agrarian polis; and then continues his article to emphasize the fifth and fourth centuries BC during the political reforms and the emergence of democracy as the main form of government. Hanson mentions the tensions that arose between landowners and non landowners as the government transitioned from timocratic to democratic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With continuous war and battles being fought, the Athenian farmers gained profits because of greater opportunity for theft (301). Hanson pulls from the fragmented works of an anonymous Oxyrhynchus Historian to support his plundering claim. The historian writes that the Athenian countryside was the most lavishly furnished in Greece (300). Hanson draws to the conclusion that Attic farmers in the fifth century BC often took rural property from conquered subjects and then re employed it on their own farms (301). With money being the new standard of privilege, as stated earlier, farmers utilized the lavish material items they plundered to gain economic status within their culture. Another policy that Attic farmers enjoyed under democracy was the introduction of pay for hoplite military service... sometime around the mid fifth century BC (301). Hanson notes that Athenian farmers were discovering the attractions democracy had to offer (301) since compensation was nonexistent during agrarian warfare because it was a necessity to fight to save the farm. The burden of battle shifted between the old regime, where the agrarian community faced battle alone, and the new regime, where the burden was on the entire polis to fight for each other s land (301). As generations continued, a new kind of self interested Athenian hoplite became prevalent due to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Difference Between Food And Organic Food Organic Food Versus Body and Environment In a day and age where the type of food we eat is discussed all over the media, it can be hard to tell what is true and what is simply another marketing ploy. In regards to organic food, there is definitely a lot of opinions surrounding the authenticity of claims to their health and environmental benefits. Many people swear that by eating organic, you can prevent illnesses such as cancer. While others argue that organic food is the answer to saving our environment from the harmful chemicals that conventional farming produces. Some even go as far to calm that organic foods may be another way to differentiate between social classes (Isenhour). With so many different opinions, it can be difficult to decide what kind of food you should be feeding your body. As a result of my interest in this widely controversial topic, the question that I will be answering is whether or not organic foods are beneficial to stave off future disease and if they are actually better for the earth. According to my research, organic foods have very little evidence supporting the idea that they are healthier for our bodies, but have the potential to improve our environment with a little more research. For a food to be considered organic, it must possess certain qualities. According to the USDA, the dirt that an organic food is planted in can t have had prohibited things put in the soil in the last three years. Animals must be kept in natural environments that ... Their names are Lady Rose Woodly and Lady Alice Woodly. They were both daughters of a wealthy Duke and Duchess. Rose was kindhearted, beautiful inside and out, and smart. Alice was not so kind, she was self centered, and although she was smart she spent most of her time pretending to be clueless just to annoy people. • 12. How Do Honey Bees Communicate How the honey bees communicate? They are not using the hum vibrations emitted by the wings to pass the information. Experiments show that honey bees are no auditory organs, they will not hear any sound. Honey bees use dance language and pheromones to communicate and share information with one another. When a honey bee discovers a new food source, it will tell the other honey bees about its location through the honey bee dance. There are three types of honey bee dances that are the round dance, the tail wagging or waggle dance and sickle dance. Round dance (figure 1) is a series of narrow circular movements. This is used to indicate that the presence of food is within 50 meters of the hive. • 13. Lenore Walker Cycle One may wonder why some individuals remain in the cycle of domestic violence even after instances of abuse. Should it not be easy for an individual to leave a partner who is inflicting pain and stress on him or her? Lenore Walker s (1979) model for the cycle of domestic violence explores the phases of domestic violence, the different types of abuse, and how these various phases contribute to the continuation of the cycle. Domestic violence is often diagnosed by obvious signs of physical abuse; however there are other unnoticeable patterns that one may not be able to immediately observe with the naked eye. Furthermore, domestic violence affects not only those who directly experience the abuse, but also those who are witnessing it, such as children (Behind Closed Doors, n.d.; Black, Sussman, Unger, 2010). It is important to recognize the the less obvious markers of intimate partner violence in order to break these patterns and work towards ending the cycles of transgenerational violence. In the model for cycle of domestic violence developed by Lenore Walker (1979), there are three phases in the cycle of abuse: tension building phase, acute battering phase, and the honeymoon phase. The tension building phase typically involves verbal abuse and conflict over matters such as finance and family (Walker, 1979). This first phase eventually leads to the battering phase, where physical abuse begins. Part of the reason why individuals who experience domestic violence do not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Sociology Of Violence Aggression and war typically are not seen in various forms. One could argue that war is not always where violent acts are seen, in the sense of cold wars, so it is can also be said to be a stage for aggressive, rather than violent, acts. However, violence has multiple variations including: mental violence, symbolic violence, and lastly as studied, political violence, that cultural anthropologists have significantly improved the understanding of. Before delving into the different categories of violence, it is important to understand that the uses of violence also vary. When examining violence, it is crucial to discern the action from the perspective of the perpetrator. (Hansen, 367) As seen in Riches dynamic triangle of violence, those who ... This is someone s ability to maintain a permanent hold on another person based on economic or practical commitments. (Hansen, 369) Many scholars will find this does not classify being labeled as violence. However, symbolic violence is something that is consistently seen in states. Symbolic violence is an important tool commonly used by states in the ordering of relationships of superiors and inferiors. States are able to justify their infliction of terror by saying their own actions are just a reaction to the symbolic violence that is implicit in opposition. (Nagengast, 111) This is where we begin to see the topic of political violence finally discussed. First and foremost, it is important to clarify that political violence may or may not be direct violence. • 15. Arian Controversy Analysis In the 4th and 5th centuries, the early church was going through change. After a period of persecution against Christians, the Edict of Milan established a policy for the toleration of Christianity under Constantine. Constantine was the first Roman emperor to embrace Christianity and he himself became a Christian. The Ecumenical Councils were encouraged by Constantine. The gatherings included church leaders and others who met to affirm the teachings of the church and to tackle heresy. The topic of controversy was over the relationship between the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Arian controversy caused Constantine to call for the Council of Nicaea, which was the first of the Ecumenical Councils. Arias denied the deity of Jesus. He believed that Jesus was subordinate to God the Father and that the Holy Spirit was subordinate to Jesus. Arias believed that the Father was God, but Jesus and the Holy Spirit were not. My longing for Hanna became so strong that it hurt. I struggled against the longing, argued that it went against HannaĀfs and my reality, the reality of our ages, the reality of our circumstancesĀh. • 18. Tissue Engineering Research By living in a broken world, people become subjected to devastation and times of hopelessness. Some encounter this through job struggles or family disputes. Others encounter it while waiting at death s door, waiting for an organ transplant. On January 8, 2014, 120,990 people were waiting for an organ transplant, wondering if they will be added to the 3,381 people who died last year waiting for a new kidney or wondering if they will become one of the 26,000 people in the United States who die each year from end stage liver disease (Kaihara and Vacanti; National Kidney Foundation). Every 20 minutes, a person is added to the kidney waitlist and each day, 14 people die while waiting for a kidney transplant (National Kidney Foundation). These numbers cannot be ignored because blindness only results in loss of life. Currently, alternatives, such as mechanical devices and artificial prostheses, don t repair tissue or organ functions because they are not intended for integrating host tissues, and if these alternatives are used for long term implantation, the recipient could suffer from an inflammatory response (Chapekar). For illnesses such as end stage liver disease, the only successful treatment is through transplant, and the odds of receiving a new liver is improbable (Kaihara and Vacanti). Another treatment must be discovered. In 1988, a NSF sponsored meeting defined a new treatment idea called tissue engineering: the application of the principles and methods of engineering ... Bradley s theory of Shakespeare The substance of Shakespeare s tragedy solely points out to the power of death. In this five act play, the death of important characters suffices for the cruel reality of life. However, a completely realm is required in order to observe Shakespeare s version of tragedy. Shakespeare has used tragedy to explain on the major paradoxes of life. It can be called a Paradox of disappointment. Defeat, unfulfilled desired, failed hopes and then finally death are some of the faces of tragedies faced by Human. These are realities of life and cannot be avoided. Although they form the foundation of our lives but are still considered as intruders to our ideal version of life. This is the reason why when we are confronted by tragic literature in this particular paradox, we become fascinated. Bradley emphasizes on viewing the literary techniques used not as the basic constituents but as the expression of tragedy. Some of the major characters in Shakespeare s renowned tragedies are Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, and Macbeth. Most of these characters are individual sufferers as in reality; a single man faces the paradoxes of life. In every work of Shakespeare, irrespective of the individually unique traits, we find a shattered hope or a failed ambition as a reason for frustration. Hence, it is the disappointment paradox which serves as the substance of any tragedy as per Shakespeare. Furthermore, it is the death itself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The answer lies in the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS). It is the branch of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) that controls the body s reaction to physical and emotional stressors. The sympathetic branch activates the glands and organs that defend the body against attack. It is called the fight or flight response. This is a primitive response designed to protect from danger. When danger is perceived, the sympathetic nervous system responds immediately to prepare a person to stay and fight or take flight. Blood rushes away from nonessential systems such as the digestive and excretory systems and is redirected to the extremities. The heart beats faster to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The glucose obtained from the liver cells produces a surge in energy better known as an adrenaline rush . The hormones also bind to receptor cells on smooth muscle and inhibit the muscles of the stomach and intestines, slowing down the digestive process and allowing more energy for emergency functions. When these hormones bind to the smooth muscle cells of the bronchioles, they cause the muscles to relax allowing more oxygen into the blood. At the sinoatrial node of the heart, epinephrine stimulates the pace maker cells to beat faster. Epinephrine also contracts certain types of muscles below the skin, causing beads of sweat and raised hairs. Once fight or flight has taken place, another branch of the ANS, the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) can take over again, calming everything down and returning body processes to normal. The fight or flight response is useful in the short term because it assists the body in responding quickly and effectively in emergencies. However in the long term, the sympathetic response can become harmful. This is because the functions of sympathetic activation can put additional stress on the nervous system. If the sympathetic system remains highly active, the parasympathetic response will not activate and return the body to homeostasis. This means the body does not get the chance to recover from stress causing a number of physical and psychological disorders. In conclusion, the brain is a complex organ with the ability to cause ... Then, Brown begins to think that he can leave Faith just for a little while and after this one night, I ll cling to her skirts and follow her to Heaven (Hawthorne 262). On the night of June 17th, 1972, five men broke into the Democratic National Committee in an attempt to gain secrets that would help Nixon win the re election. The men were found to be connected to Nixon himself. Upon being caught, all hell broke loose for Nixon s presidency and there was no turning back. Upon further investigation by Congress, Nixon was committing illegal acts other than that of burglary. It was discovered that the tapes Nixon used to record his conversations in the Oval Office would be beneficial in the sense that they contained all the proof needed to impeach the president. The president argued that this damning information needed not be shared with the community and was protected by his executive privileges. The entire situation became known as the Watergate scandal and exploded in popularity with the help of the media. After it was all said and done, the Supreme Court ruled that Nixon was being unconstitutional. Both countries are divided into districts with single member representation. However, the United States uses a majority system, first past the post, while France uses a majority plurality, two round system. With each system there are separate advantages and disadvantages. Nonetheless, the first past the post system used in the United States is more efficient, cost effective, and comprehendible to the average person. The United States of America elects the lower house of government using simple majority. This system can also be described as a plurality, or first past the post. Members of the House of Representatives, the lower house of government in the United States, are elected every two years. While the global average cost has decreased to 7.9% by the 3rd quarter of 2014, many prices of money transfer to sub Saharan Africa remain above 10% at 11.28%. Today, Money Transfer Operations remain substantially cheaper than commercial banks (about 5% cheaper). The international community has particularly focused on ensuring transparency in pricing with laws such as the United States Dodd Frank law which mandates that an individual knows the full cost of transferring money overseas at the moment that she/he sends the order. The hope of reducing costs and increasing transparency is to allow remittances to create income generating activities. To accomplish this goal within sub Saharan Africa, where 70% of all money transfers are controlled by a single company, greater competition is needed to drive prices down. Although there has been a significant effort in this area, sending states must be convinced that their tax system should be designed to reward remittance investment into business development and infrastructure so as to build a strong tax base rather than to seek quick profits from hefty taxes on the incoming remittances. Trying to Understand Bundling Bundling: Bundling is a term that refers to the process of transportation of goods belonging to various flows in a common vehicle intermodal unit such as truck, train or barge or other segments during part of their journey. As a result, this process is a major business of the transportation sector given that operators occasionally examine their service networks and change their bundling operations. The adjustments made in bundling operations are usually a reaction to changing cost structures, situations, and competition with regards to the requirements of demand and performance. During the adjustments, the operators basically change the bundling type, extent of network concentration, frequency of service, vehicle load, and utilized physical means (Kreutzberger, 2010, p.160). Generally, the major factors for adjustments are changes in flow directions and sizes and the operator s share in the market. According to market players in the maritime transport, inland logistics are one of the most significant segments still enhancing economic signals in order to add value and enhance profitability. Bundling is regarded as one of the most probable solutions on ways to enhance the intermodal transport and could also improve competitiveness.
