The Role Of Women In The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey Chaucer
The idea of a woman s place in society is as controversial now as it was over six hundred years ago.
Geoffrey Chaucer first explores this in his famous collection of stories The Canterbury Tales. In
Chaucer s tales, he explores the situations of multiple individuals of varying backgrounds in the
medieval time period. Each character tells a story that reveals some aspect of their morality and
personality. Quite often, their tale also reveals their opinion of a certain overlying subject; such is the
case with many character s opinions of women and their place in society. Chaucer has commonly been
described as a feminist and though that is partly true, there is a much more beneath the surface.
Chaucer does not agree with the general ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most controversial aspect of Chaucer s opinion of feminism is his figurative spectrum of the
embodiment of a woman. His depiction of a woman goes from one extreme to the next with no middle
ground. Women in the sense of The Canterbury Tales are either perfect and or outrageously flawed.
Chaucer creates character in the theme of absolutes, both physically and emotionally. Women are also
considered to be either young and beautiful or old and ugly. In The Wife of Bath s Tale, a knight rapes
a young maiden and the queen wants to decide his fate. She gives him a year to find out what women
truly want in life. He finds the answer from an old ugly woman who agrees only to help if he marries
her. When he does, she gives him the option of either having her as a young and beautiful wife who
will not be faithful or as an old and ugly wife who will be loyal. He tells her that because she is his
wife, that the decision belongs to her, but the only reason he agrees to this trade off in power is
because of his newfound resignation. He is solemn because he thinks he cannot have the ideal wife:
young, beautiful, and loyal. In the end of the Wife of Bath s Tale, she eventually gives him this perfect
significant other, which only undermines the theme of sovereignty and makes readers question
whether he truly learned his lesson or not. One of Chaucer s opinions of women

Israel s Geography Essay
Israel is one of the world s smallest countries with a total area of 7,850 square miles. Since its
independence from British rule in May 1948, Israel has become home to some of the holiest sites of
Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Since 1948, Israel has been in numerous short wars with neighboring
countries fighting violence escalated by Palestinian groups and militias.
Israel has five major geographical regions, which consist of the Mediterranean coastal plain, the
central and northern highlands, the Plain of Esdraelon, the Great Rift Valley, and the Negev. The
Mediterranean Coastal Plain extends along the entire Israeli coast, which is also, where two thirds of
Israel s population lives. The central and northern highlands consist of a chain of hills and mountains
where Israel s largest city Jerusalem resides. Located in the north Galilean highlands Mount Meron is
the highest point in Israel at 3963 feet. (Britannica) The Plain of Esdraelon is the area to the lowland
passage between the Mediterranean Coastal areas and the Jordan River Valley. The Great Rift Valley

Personal Perception of Organized Crime
Personal Perception of Organized Crime In answering this question of what Angie s personal
perception of organized crime, it takes me back to the days of organized groups that united for
financial gain, control over business, law enforcement, the public and anyone or anything that they
could rule. Organized crime brings about change in a community, hurt, danger, and sometimes death.
When thinking of organized crime it takes us back to the days of the Mafia. The days of Al Capone
comes to mind more then any other organized criminal. This gave a perception as to what organized
crime consists of and this is how viewed. The alien conspiracy theory posits that organized crime (the
Mafia) gained prominence during the 1860s in Sicily and that ... Show more content on

A more specific criminological definition would refer to groups that (1) utilize violence or threats of
violence, (2) provide illicit goods that are in public demand, and (3) assure immunity for their
operators through corruption and enforcement. (Hagan, 2010: 300)
Conclusion
Thus, the organized criminal activity becomes transnational if it is connected to illegal operations on
moving material and non material means through frontiers, which bring an essential economic gain.
The transnational organized crime uses the favorable market conditions of other states, significant
distinctions in systems of criminal justice of the different countries, and penetration into their legal
economy with the help of corruption and violence (Zorin, 2009). In researching on this issue, the
conclusion that has arrived is as long as we live, we will always have organized crime. However, if we
do not participate in these acts it ill not prosper.

The Evidence of Unbound Loyalty in Oliver Twist
As young Oliver, ill treated and hungry, approaches his masters saying Please, sir, I want some more
(Dickens 11), Charles Dickens enthralls his readers in the harsh, twisted journey of Oliver Twist.
Through a series of exciting events full of abuse, loyalty, hatred, and love, Dickens portrays the
overlooked difficulties of the poor, lower class that Oliver Twist s action packed life has been subject
to. Some of Dickens most loved characters, including the adolescent pickpocket under the pseudonym
the Artful Dodger, the brutal Bill Sikes, devoted Nancy, and the criminal mastermind Fagin, are all
presented in his entrancing Oliver Twist. Dickens does a brilliant job of manipulating his characters
into acts of heinous crimes, life risking encounters, and joyous memories all the while unfolding an
unimaginable ending to his superb tale. Although Dickens presents many captivating ideas, the focus
of this particular monograph will concentrate on the unfailing loyalty of his characters and how this
faithfulness will lead to their benefit or downfall. Before delving too deep in detail however, a brief
summary must be presented.
Oliver is born an orphan into a workhouse in a quaint little town about 70 miles outside of London,
England. Oliver spends the first eight years of his life abused and neglected in a child farm ran by the
parish, and soon after is sent off to slave away

A Study On Prevention And Treatment Of A Platelet...
Diagnosing prothrombotic diseases early and preventing its complications are significantly essential.
Therefore, this study sought to investigate whether MPV contain diagnostic value that can prompt it to
be utilized as a platelet activation marker and as marker of evidence of thrombotic risk. Platelet
activation is widely acknowledged to be an indicator of likely prothrombotic diseases. Platelet size,
measured as MPV, has been shown to be an indicator of platelet function and is positively linked to
platelet activity indicators (Tsiara et al., 2003). The correlation between platelet size and function can
be attributed to the larger platelets that activated megakaryocyte produce in the bone marrow likely to
be more reactive and easier to aggregate than the normal platelets. Such is because the larger platelets
secret more β thromboglobulin and serotonin, have denser granules, generate more thromboxane in
comparison to the smaller platelets while also showing more activity than the smaller platelets
(Dastjerdi et al., 2006). Therefore, the hyperactive large platelets contribute considerably in speeding
the formation and spread of intracoronary thrombus. This causes acute thrombotic events to occur
(Smith et al., 1999). Increased MPV levels are exhibited to constitute an independent predictor for
recurrent MI, ischemic vascular events or even death caused by coronary artery disease (Wang et al.,
2011; Chu et al., 2010; Huczek et al., 2005). Dogan et al. (2012) linked MPV

Sublime Analysis
In the short stories, both Hawthorne and Poe communicate the Romantic and Gothic element of the
unachievable aspect of the sublime, which expresses the relationship of creation between each text. In
The Artist of the Beautiful , Owen, an insightful watchmaker, devotes his entire life to replicate the
beauty in nature and strives to perfect it into the form of a mechanical butterfly. Owen succeeds in his
creation of Nature s ideal butterfly , but this comes only for a short spell before Peter Hovenden s
grandson destroys the beautiful machine (Hawthorne, The Artist 1153). Hawthorne notes how the
painter leaves half his conception on the canvas to sadden us with its imperfect beauty, and goes to
picture forth the whole, if be no irreverence to say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They do this knowing that they will be able to perfect their work in the hues of Heaven . Hawthorne
combines this aspect of the sublime being unachievable on earth in The Birthmark . Aylmer, a scientist
and philosopher, is appalled by his wife, Georgiana s birthmark and strives to create an elixir vitae to
remove it (Hawthorne, The Birthmark 1027). Hawthorne describes Aylmer s ambition to create the
elixir of life, but evidently Aylmer knows that it would produce a discord in Nature which all the
world, and chiefly the quaffer of the immortal nostrum, would find a cause to curse (1027).
Hawthorne continues his use of the unachievable sublime in creation, in that even Aylmer knows of
the fact that Nature, in other terms the earth, would be able to cause curse or ruin, as it does so with
Georgiana s death. Hawthorne describes the elixir of life as an immortal nostrum , further claiming
that the elixir is only an indefinite scheme that is unable to fully immortalize humans, which supports
the claim that the perfection of beauty and immortalization is only attainable in

In today s era, cultural safety is the principal subject involved in nursing practice. Culture is defined as
a group of people of different origins, values, languages they speak, spiritual beliefs and many more.
Unsafe cultural practice consists of any action which destroys or deteriorate the overall health and
cultural identity of a person or individual. Many factors which influence cultural safety are cultural,

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population across different parts of Australia have lower life
expectancy than mainstream Australians (approximately 10 years difference in lifespan between
indigenous and non indigenous people). Late diagnosis of disease is the most prominent, with many
indigenous people entering the end or terminal phase of illness before it is diagnosed (Williams,
2016). The colonisation of Australia had a catastrophic effect on Torres islander or Aboriginal people.
Behrendt, L, (2012) states that in 1788, Captain Arthur Phillip and other 1500 civilians, marines and
crew arrived at Sydney. After 10 years of their arrival, Australia s indigenous population reduced by
90 percent. Three main reasons for this drastic decline in number were violent conflicts between
colonisers, the introduction of new diseases and other civilians or non native population acquire the

Wound closure:
At 6 hours, the wound closure in the control (Fig. 1a), diabetic (Fig. 1c) and diabetic groups
supplemented with whey protein (Fig. 1e) was not visible. In contrast, wound closure in the diabetic
rats supplemented with whey protein at 4 days after the injury (Fig. 1f) was greater than the diabetic
rats (Fig. 1d) and nearly similar to the control rats (Fig. 1f).
Estimation of IL 1beta:
The IL 1β ELISA value demonstrated that the diabetic group (2228.18±183.187 pg/ml) was lower than
the control group (2660.67±97.967 pg/ml). In contrast, the diabetic group supplemented with whey
protein (2954.33±388.655 pg/ml) was very high than the diabetic group (2228.18±183.187 pg/ml)

(5071.41±90.875 pg/ml) was lower than the diabetic group supplemented with whey protein
(6415.72±235.095 pg/ml). Statistical analysis showed a significant difference in IL 6 levels between
diabetic group and the diabetic group supplemented with whey protein (P 0.05).
Estimation of TNF α:
In parallel to IL 1β and IL 6, ELISA test of TNF α showed that the diabetic group (1374.23±90.875
pg/ml, respectively) was slightly lower than the control group and the whey protein supplemented
diabetic group (1488.63±2.775 pg/ml and 1415.68±235.095 pg/ml, respectively), Fig. (4). Statistical
analysis showed that there is no significant difference in TNF α level between diabetic group and the
diabetic group supplemented with whey protein (P 0.05).

Stigmatization Of Black Queer Men Essay
Stigmatization of Black Queer Men For every Black man that is born, each is gifted with the rigid
expectations of being a hyper masculine male. These expectations seemed to be passed down through
generations from family members. The study African American Gay Youth and Their Families:
Redefining Masculinity, Coping with Racism and Homophobia. , portrays some of the hardships of
coming out within this specific community. A mother who was interviewed in this study said You are
told to be a man ... and being a man does not mean you sleep with other men, she said. Being a man
means you have a woman and you procreate and continue the family name. And for queer black men
especially, this expectation of needing a woman to be the validation for your manhood takes a toll on
them and their ability to feel safe in coming out. In this essay I intend to outline the problematic
expectations and stigmatization of the black queer male community and develop ways in which this
problem can start to be overcome while dealing with different sections of intersectionality. Black men
are often viewed as emotionless, physically strong, hyper sexual, and mischievous. There are so many
rules surrounding what passing is as a man. However, not all of these rules are created by Black men
themselves. These are the rules the media portrays, neighbors portray and even women in elevators
clutching their purses portray. For anyone to be constantly bombarded with these stereotypes and not
internalize

How Payment System All Over The World Has Experienced A...
INTRODUCTION
Payments system all over the world has experienced a period of dramatic change. Consumers,
businesses, and government are moving away from paper checks and towards electronic forms of
payment. Technological advances and competitive forces are fundamentally altering the payments
landscape, with important implications for efficiency, safety, and access.
A payment card is a device (embossed plastics) that enables its owner (the cardholder) to make a
payment by electronic funds transfer. This is the technology reduced the use of cash to purchase goods
and services. Payment card allows the cardholder to pay for goods and services based on the holder s
promise to pay for them. The most common types of payment cards are credit card and debit cards.
Payment cards are usually 85.60 × 53.98 mm in size, which complies with the ISO/IEC 7810 ID 1
standard. They usually also have an embossed card number conforming with the ISO/IEC 7812
numbering standard.
A payment card is mostly electronically linked to an account or accounts belonging to the cardholder.
These accounts could be deposit accounts, loan or credit accounts, and the card is a means of
authenticating the cardholder. The Wal Mart Visa/MasterCard honor all cards settlement and the
proposed First Data Concord EFS merger are just two examples of the dynamic forces at work in this
industry.
There are different types of payment cards. These are a credit card, debit card, charge card, ATM card,

The connection between Hel and Ragnarök is through Odin s son Baldur. Baldur was one of the most
beloved of all the gods. Baldur was a generous, joyful, and courageous character who gladdened the
hearts of all who spent time with him. When, therefore, he began to have ominous dreams of some
grave misfortune befalling him, the fearful gods appointed Odin to discover their meaning. Odin
mounted his eight legged steed, Sleipnir, and rode him to the underworld. When he reached the cold
and misty underworld, he found the halls arrayed in splendor, as if some magnificent feast were about
to occur. He soon found out that guest of honor for this festivity was to be none other than Baldur.
Odin returned in sorrow to Asgard, the gods celestial stronghold, and told his fellow gods what he had
been told. Frigg, wanting for any chance of saving her treasured son, went to every thing in the
cosmos and obtained oaths to not harm Baldur. After these oaths were secured, the gods made a sport
out of the situation. They threw sticks, rocks, and anything else on hand at Baldur, and everyone
laughed as these things bounced off and left the shining god unharmed. Loki saw an opportunity to
cause mischief and took it. In disguise, he went to Frigg and asked her, Did all things swear oaths to
spare Baldur from harm? Oh, yes, the goddess replied, everything except the mistletoe. But the
mistletoe is so small and innocent a thing that I felt it superfluous to ask it for an oath. What harm
could it do to my son? Immediately after hearing this, Loki located the mistletoe, and brought it to
where the gods were playing their new favorite game. He approached the blind god Hod and said, You
must feel quite left out, having to sit back here away from the merriment, not being given a chance to
show Baldur the honor of proving his invincibility. The blind god

Taking a Look at Neck Pain
Research Paper: Neck Pain
What is Neck Pain?
Parts of the Cervical Vertebrae
Cervical Vertebrae is composed of 7 discs ranging from C1 to C7. It is in charge of protecting the
spinal cord while supporting the weight of the head that averages at about 10 pounds. The vertebrae is
also tasked with enabling the head to rotate and move. The intervertebral discs in between the
vertebrae are said to be gel like and allows the parts of vertebrae to move past each other. They also
act as shock absorbers. The Spinal Cord sends signals throughout the body that allows us humans to
move via the spinal nerves.

A: Plan of the Investigation 2
What was the significance of Jewish immigration to Palestine in the 1920s and 1930s?
The investigation assesses demographic shifts to Palestine in the context of the Arab Israeli Conflict. It
more specifically inquires about the impact of Jewish immigration on Palestine in terms of the effects
it had on Jewish Arab relationships in Palestine. It seeks to determine the extent the third, fourth, and
fifth aliyahs of 1919 1939 had on the economic development of the Israeli State and its social
implications. Monographs and general texts will be used to provide background on the conflict,
including the rise of Zionism, the British Mandate, the White Paper, and the Peel Commission. This
context will also be used to critically analyze the role of Jewish immigration to Palestine and the role
it played in land reforms, rioting, and the implementation of restrictions set by the British government
on Palestine. Two secondary sources, William L. Cleveland s A History of the Modern Middle East

Fracking Yay Or Nay
Fracking: Yay or Nay
As we become increasingly technologically complex, humans are becoming more and more reliant on
energy. This energy is used for gasoline, heating and electricity among many others. Acquiring energy
is very important but acquiring this energy in the most environmentally friendly way is even more
important. There are various methods used when obtaining natural gas but one of the most
controversial ways is through the process of hydraulic fracturing. The idea of Hydraulic fracturing or
Fracking dates back to 1866 when inventor Col. E.A.L. Roberts lowered a torpedo to the bottom of a
well, filled the well with water and the detonated the charge. The weight of the water forced an
explosion and oil began to gush out. Modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though there are negative side effects to the method, the positive effects outweigh the negative.
The method allows people to tap into new drilling method, which has greatly increased the production
level. With the abundance of oil, the gas price has plummeted. In addition, increase in production of
natural oil has increased the employment rate of the people. Besides, the change to fracking has
reduced environmental pollution. Because it improves the air quality there has been an improvement
in the health and mortality of the people. The method of fracking is still growing and new inventions
have been created to make the practice better and safer. Percussion has been made to ensure the
method is safer and more efficient. Until there is a faultless way to obtain energy, fracking will
continue to be a leading

Cadets At United States Military Academy (USMA)
Cadets at United States Military Academy (USMA) are the leaders of tomorrow. They aspire to a
higher purpose, and are called to put their country and families first. The shared values and
characteristics of a cadet and military officer are integrity, confidence in their ability to lead, and a
commitment to teamwork. It is these attributes that make some of the finest officers of the United
States Army.
Integrity should be the highest value for any cadet. That is why there is an honor code at the Academy.
Cadets should have a sense of pride and integrity and do what is right automatically. If a person cannot
do the right thing without being watched, then he cannot be trusted. If an Army officer cannot be
trusted by his own soldiers, he is useless as a leader and can t be relied upon ... Show more content on

To be a successful leader, a cadet must be able to get others to follow and support them. In order to do
that, they must first believe in themselves before others can. The cadets must know who they are, and
have a sense of purpose. Those who know why they are at the Academy establish an aura of
confidence that attracts others to follow them. A cadet who is confident becomes a leader people can
trust and one that everyone will want to work for. By leading with confidence, and empowering
others, a leader can do great things.
A successful cadet must also know how to work with others, and lead them towards a common goal. A
leader must also be able to follow before he can lead. I understand there are many challenges to be
faced at the military academy, and in order to overcome them I will need the help and support of those
around me. Whether it is in drill, academics, or athletics a cadet will need the aid of others to
accomplish his goal. In the field, it is a matter of life and death for an Army officer to know the value

Persuasive Speech On Endangered Species
Introduction
An endangered species is a group (population) of plants, animals or other organisms that is in danger
of becoming extinct. This could happen because there are few of that animal left, its predators have
grown in number, or the climate that it lives in is changing, or the places it lives in have been
destroyed. The World Conservation Union (IUCN) has worked out that endangered species are 40% of
all organisms. This research paper aims to see why we should protect the endangered species, ways to
protect and the causes of endangered species becoming more and more. Some people do not really
understand the importance of keeping a healthy population of animals or plants in the planet so this
report will show you what we had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything stays right here on the plant. Help with breeding
There are breeding programs out there that help animals from becoming extinct. You can join the
program, it s going to take your money but it s going to be worth saving the animals and plants.
Controlling hunting A lot of countries allow a certain numbers of animals to be hunted but no more. If
any hunters doesn t follow the laws, the will be charged.
Conclusion The amount of endangered species has been rising due to human factors such as hunting
and over exploitation. So of this, we should protect the endangered species and stop them from rising
the amount. We can do the easy ways like, be careful about what we buy because there is no away to
throw trash, everything stays on the plants, as easy as it looks, we already protect them. We should
conserve them not only because they benefit us but because they play a role in nature and have a right
to survive.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist Essay
Fundamentalism is a strict adherence to a set of ideas or beliefs that are conservative in nature. It is a
pejorative term usually associated with religious fanaticism. Usually, this is what comes to mind when
there is mention of a fundamentalist. However, in Mohsin Hamid s The Reluctant Fundamentalist
starring the protagonist Changez, a Pakistani Princetonian who is a top ranked employee at a
prestigious New York valuation firm, turns out not to be an Islamic fundamentalist, but a reluctant
fundamentalist of US Capitalism. Hamid challenges readers to reevaluate their preconceived notions
and prejudices of people different from themselves in post 9/11 America by employing the use of
motifs, aphorism, and suspense, to create a conflation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamid, through his choice of names, brilliantly doubles his characters as motifs. All the significant
characters have a symbolic identity and thus, he is simultaneously telling two stories, but not in the
traditional sense expected of a frame story, for this is not a story within a story, but rather, a story
behind a story. The frame takes Changez back to the past, but when he finishes retelling the past, the
frame is no more and the reader is back in the present. Therefore, when the past is put in conjunction
with the happenings in the cafe, only one story is being told. The second story is conveyed through the
interaction of the motifs and requires a little intuition (not that much) on the reader s part to decipher
its meaning. In using the motifs to convey a variety of messages, the relationship between Changez
and Erica is especially saturated with clues of their secret identities. Erica had only one previous lover,
Chris, her childhood sweetheart who died of cancer in late adolescence and whom she is never able to
let go. Initially, she was severely depressed but eventually recovered from the ordeal. However, as
Erica s intimacy with Changez grows, so does her feeling of nostalgia. The September 11 attacks
triggers a relapse in Erica and she becomes more and more obsessed with Chris. She rejects Changez
physically and is only able to have sex with him when they pretend

Similarities And Differences Between Lee Lean Yew And Sukarno
IS Essay
Introduction
This essay seeks to compare and contrast the political and economic leadership styles adopted by Lee
Kuan Yew and Sukarno. PM Lee Kuan Yew was the first prime minister of Singapore and had turned
Singapore from a poor fishing village into a bustling first world country, with world renowned airports
and hotels, all through his clear vision as well as his economic policies during his governance from
1959 1990. On the other hand, Sukarno was the first president of Indonesia from the time period of
1945 1967. Sukarno was a prominent leader of Indonesia, who led Indonesia to its independence and
created stability within his home country, ending various rebellions which threatened her. This essay

The nationalists waged an armed feud against the Netherlands with Japanese weapons in hand, who
had powerful financial reasons for recovering the East Indies and believed that most Indonesians
wanted them to return. Dutch forces made generous progress in Java and Sumatra, but there was fierce
judgement from the United Nations, and the United States encouraged a unanimous resolution for the
situation in Indonesia. A council of 120 delegates assembled at The Hague in August 1949, under the
chairmanship of the prime minister of the Netherlands, Willem Drees. The nationalist delegates were
skillfully led by Hatta. On November 2nd, after nearly a 2 and a half months of debating, the council
reached a ⅔ majority on a resolution which transferred Dutch supremacy to Indonesia, with Queen
Juliana of the Netherlands as titular head of a new Netherlands Indonesian Union. Sukarno was
recognized as Indonesian president and Hatta as prime minister. The sensitive question of Dutch New
Guinea (Irian Jaya) was put aside for later. The Dutch unleashed thousands of political prisoners
before independence was formally declared on December 27th. Finally attaining independence, a
population of 78 million, an island chain approaching 2 million square kilometres of land immediately

Veterans frequently note finding a job as the most difficult task they face when transitioning out of the
service, citing transferring military skills to a civilian professional atmosphere as one of the primary
hurdles. Aside from the difficulties of the current job market, one of the biggest difficulties Veterans
report in finding a job is dictating how their military skills translate to the civilian professional
atmosphere. Nearly all believe they have the skillsets required to land their targeted job, but most
express concerns about how to translate their skills to a civilian business environment. Many Veterans

Trade Policy For The New President Essay

Trade Policy for the New President: Concerning Immigration In the recent decades, member countries
of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have seen rapid growth in
the foreign born population which has stimulated research on the socio economic impacts of
immigration. There has been great amounts of research done to produce literature like that of Gould
(1994) that propose that immigration has proven statistically to have a significant positive impact on
international trade. Considering President Elect Donald Trump s views on the issue of immigration
and its economic impacts are rather poor, it is imperative to present evidence of the positive result of
immigration will benefit the United States rather than cost it. The early rhetoric of the election
displayed rather ill intentions toward the growing foreign born population that is continually entering
the United States; however the increased immigration theoretically will, apart from its impact on the
labor market in the host country, have positive effects on the increase of trade between immigrants
host and home countries. Within the pioneering studies of Gould (1994), links have been made that
immigrants affect both imports and exports for the United States. It is suggested in Gould s reports
that immigration, specifically immigration induced population growth, increases both aggregate
demand and output. Therefore, the demand for imports

Determination Of Biomass, Protein, Carbohydrate And Lipid
Determination of biomass, protein, carbohydrate and lipid For the estimation of dry biomass, 2 ml
culture was removed on 10th day from each flask, and absorbance measured at 750 nm
spectrophotometrically (Shimadzu UV mini 1601, Japan) and converted to dry biomass using the
regression equation Dry biomass (mg ml 1) = Abs750+0.0378/0.0009 (R2 =0.995; P 0.001) based on a
standard curve constructed depending on Abs 750 vs dry biomass. To determine dry biomass 10 ml
microalgal culture with known Abs750 ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 were filtered through pre combusted

Optimization of medium composition and culture conditions Experimental design Selection of
significant variables by Plackett Burman design The screening of significant variables influencing
biomass production of Chaetoceros muelleri was accomplished by Plackett Burman experimental
design using the statistical software Design Expert (version 6.0.9, Stat Ease Inc, Minneapolis, MN).
Three nutritional parameters (nitrate, phosphate, and silicate) and four physicochemical parameters
(temperature, pH, salinity, and agitation speed) were screened, having each variable tested at two
levels, as minimum ( ) and maximum (+). The minimum and maximum limits of the variables were
nitrate (A):7.5 150 mg l 1 ; phosphate (B): 0.5 10 mg l 1; silicate (C): 3 60 mg l 1; temperature (D): 20
30oC; pH (E): 6 9; salinity (F): 15 40 ppt and agitation speed (G): 100 200 rpm. For screening the
above variables, microalgal culture having absorbance of 0.2 at 750 nm was inoculated to a final
concentration of 10% (v/v) to 100 ml medium in 250 ml conical flasks having varying composition as
formulated by Plackett Burman design. The design matrix, consisted of 11 variables with 12 runs (N),
with D1 to D4 as the dummy variables was used to evaluate the standard errors (SE) (Table 1) . The
experimental cultures were incubated in triplicate for 10 days in a shaker

Native Americans Civil Rights Struggle Essay
The Native Americans have come across long journey of difficult times since the occupation of their
land by European settlers. There are still two sides of a coin a world of civilization and a world of
underdeveloped society in this one country USA. The paradox is that the constitution which seems to
be a model of democracy to many nations of the world lacks a lot for not acting accordingly. Those
organized and unorganized struggles of Native Americans were challenged by the heavily armed white
majority settlers. This history is among the worst American experience because of the massacre and

The Alcatraz occupation lasted for nineteen months.
The Alcatraz opposition was followed by another major event in the struggle of native America s civil
right at Wounded Knee south Dakota. In 1972, they requested the government for land ownerships,
rights for their water and mineral recourses in their land, and for equality according to the constitution.
This was followed by the huge damage of the Bureau of Indian Affairs BIA. In 1973, the government
came with denying the requests and then the leaders of American Indian movement AIM, promised to
keep struggling (Kent 1769). The leaders of the AIM were Russel Means and Denis Banks. There
were also some internal differences among the Indian American tribes. For instance Oglala Sioux
Tribe leaders were criticizing the oppositions. As a result, The AIM leaders were also critical to those
tribes and to the tribal president Richard Wilson. They blamed Wilson for his mismanagement of his
tribe s fund. Wilson had responded with serious attack on his opponents and their families. Hence, the
government supported Wilson and convinced as the leaders intended to size BIA on February 12,
19763 which was followed by 60 heavily armed marshals (Kent). As a result, on February 23, 250
people of Oglala tribe and AIM members agreed and broke on arm store to fight Wilson at Wounded

The Conformity Of Individuality In Henry David Twain s...
A nation is only as good as the people who comprise it. In regards to the United States, tragedy
permeates the nation when its citizens decide to conform to the standards imposed by the majority. As
a multitude of Americans alter themselves to fit in and be accepted, their individuality floats away into
the abyss. Nevertheless, the process of conforming may not always be such a bad thing. Conforming
gives Americans the ability to connect to species that holds immense value. A species greater than
anything they could have ever became while isolated. Now, although humans unconsciously conform
to the standards of others, this process of conforming is detrimental to all Americans as it diminishes a
person s self identity along with their true life s purpose. Every standard and regulation an American
abides by is influenced by their fellow citizens. The basic human nature of a person propels them to
conform to the lifestyle of others. This concept is present within Henry David Thoreau s Civil
Disobedience in which he explains that even the most successfully men can be imposed on [...] for
their own advantage. Thoreau implies that when a person is exposed to others of high authority or
legitimacy, they develop the desire to act like and feel acceptance from said persons. As Mark Twain
illustrates in his essay Corn pone Opinions , people base their standards of ideals on a matter of
association and sympathy, not reasoning and examination. Thus as humans rely heavily on

During this session, I was able to observe Ms. Thomas affect, the tone of her voice and her verbal and
nonverbal cues that she was in distress. It appeared that she was in crisis mode, needed to feel

her granddaughter about her medical condition. Looking at it from Ms. Thomas perspective, she might
be feeling sad, despair, afraid, disappointed and wondering why me. My responses were intended to
provide empathy and a sense of understanding and support. In addition, I was assessing her emotional
stability and level of understanding of the upcoming medical intervention.
When Ms. Thomas started crying I was thinking to myself that she didn t feel hopeful about her
upcoming surgery. Ms. Thomas frequently apologized for crying during her session and each time I
reassure her that it was ok to cry and take as much time she needs to let it out.
During this session, I felt connected to Ms. Thomas as I was able to tune in with her emotion as I
experienced similar emotions when informed that a coworker/friend was diagnosed with cancer. When
Ms. Thomas said that she was diagnosed with cancer, I was taken back to when I found out my

  • 2. The Role Of Women In The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey Chaucer The idea of a woman s place in society is as controversial now as it was over six hundred years ago. Geoffrey Chaucer first explores this in his famous collection of stories The Canterbury Tales. In Chaucer s tales, he explores the situations of multiple individuals of varying backgrounds in the medieval time period. Each character tells a story that reveals some aspect of their morality and personality. Quite often, their tale also reveals their opinion of a certain overlying subject; such is the case with many character s opinions of women and their place in society. Chaucer has commonly been described as a feminist and though that is partly true, there is a much more beneath the surface. Chaucer does not agree with the general ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most controversial aspect of Chaucer s opinion of feminism is his figurative spectrum of the embodiment of a woman. His depiction of a woman goes from one extreme to the next with no middle ground. Women in the sense of The Canterbury Tales are either perfect and or outrageously flawed. Chaucer creates character in the theme of absolutes, both physically and emotionally. Women are also considered to be either young and beautiful or old and ugly. In The Wife of Bath s Tale, a knight rapes a young maiden and the queen wants to decide his fate. She gives him a year to find out what women truly want in life. He finds the answer from an old ugly woman who agrees only to help if he marries her. When he does, she gives him the option of either having her as a young and beautiful wife who will not be faithful or as an old and ugly wife who will be loyal. He tells her that because she is his wife, that the decision belongs to her, but the only reason he agrees to this trade off in power is because of his newfound resignation. He is solemn because he thinks he cannot have the ideal wife: young, beautiful, and loyal. In the end of the Wife of Bath s Tale, she eventually gives him this perfect significant other, which only undermines the theme of sovereignty and makes readers question whether he truly learned his lesson or not. Personal Perception of Organized Crime Personal Perception of Organized Crime In answering this question of what Angie s personal perception of organized crime, it takes me back to the days of organized groups that united for financial gain, control over business, law enforcement, the public and anyone or anything that they could rule. Organized crime brings about change in a community, hurt, danger, and sometimes death. When thinking of organized crime it takes us back to the days of the Mafia. A more specific criminological definition would refer to groups that (1) utilize violence or threats of violence, (2) provide illicit goods that are in public demand, and (3) assure immunity for their operators through corruption and enforcement. (Hagan, 2010: 300) Conclusion Thus, the organized criminal activity becomes transnational if it is connected to illegal operations on moving material and non material means through frontiers, which bring an essential economic gain. The transnational organized crime uses the favorable market conditions of other states, significant distinctions in systems of criminal justice of the different countries, and penetration into their legal economy with the help of corruption and violence (Zorin, 2009). • 5. The Evidence Of Unbound Loyalty Sam Carlton Allison Boswell English 30 September 2014 The Evidence of Unbound Loyalty in Oliver Twist As young Oliver, ill treated and hungry, approaches his masters saying Please, sir, I want some more (Dickens 11), Charles Dickens enthralls his readers in the harsh, twisted journey of Oliver Twist. Through a series of exciting events full of abuse, loyalty, hatred, and love, Dickens portrays the overlooked difficulties of the poor, lower class that Oliver Twist s action packed life has been subject to. Some of Dickens most loved characters, including the adolescent pickpocket under the pseudonym the Artful Dodger, the brutal Bill Sikes, devoted Nancy, and the criminal mastermind Fagin, are all presented in his entrancing Oliver Twist. Dickens does a brilliant job of manipulating his characters into acts of heinous crimes, life risking encounters, and joyous memories all the while unfolding an unimaginable ending to his superb tale. Although Dickens presents many captivating ideas, the focus of this particular monograph will concentrate on the unfailing loyalty of his characters and how this faithfulness will lead to their benefit or downfall. Before delving too deep in detail however, a brief summary must be presented. Oliver is born an orphan into a workhouse in a quaint little town about 70 miles outside of London, England. Oliver spends the first eight years of his life abused and neglected in a child farm ran by the parish, and soon after is sent off to slave away ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Study On Prevention And Treatment Of A Platelet... Diagnosing prothrombotic diseases early and preventing its complications are significantly essential. Therefore, this study sought to investigate whether MPV contain diagnostic value that can prompt it to be utilized as a platelet activation marker and as marker of evidence of thrombotic risk. Platelet activation is widely acknowledged to be an indicator of likely prothrombotic diseases. Platelet size, measured as MPV, has been shown to be an indicator of platelet function and is positively linked to platelet activity indicators (Tsiara et al., 2003). The correlation between platelet size and function can be attributed to the larger platelets that activated megakaryocyte produce in the bone marrow likely to be more reactive and easier to aggregate than the normal platelets. Such is because the larger platelets secret more β thromboglobulin and serotonin, have denser granules, generate more thromboxane in comparison to the smaller platelets while also showing more activity than the smaller platelets (Dastjerdi et al., 2006). Therefore, the hyperactive large platelets contribute considerably in speeding the formation and spread of intracoronary thrombus. This causes acute thrombotic events to occur (Smith et al., 1999). Increased MPV levels are exhibited to constitute an independent predictor for recurrent MI, ischemic vascular events or even death caused by coronary artery disease (Wang et al., 2011; Chu et al., 2010; Huczek et al., 2005). • 7. Sublime Analysis In the short stories, both Hawthorne and Poe communicate the Romantic and Gothic element of the unachievable aspect of the sublime, which expresses the relationship of creation between each text. In The Artist of the Beautiful , Owen, an insightful watchmaker, devotes his entire life to replicate the beauty in nature and strives to perfect it into the form of a mechanical butterfly. Owen succeeds in his creation of Nature s ideal butterfly , but this comes only for a short spell before Peter Hovenden s grandson destroys the beautiful machine (Hawthorne, The Artist 1153). Hawthorne combines this aspect of the sublime being unachievable on earth in The Birthmark . Aylmer, a scientist and philosopher, is appalled by his wife, Georgiana s birthmark and strives to create an elixir vitae to remove it (Hawthorne, The Birthmark 1027). Hawthorne describes Aylmer s ambition to create the elixir of life, but evidently Aylmer knows that it would produce a discord in Nature which all the world, and chiefly the quaffer of the immortal nostrum, would find a cause to curse (1027). Hawthorne continues his use of the unachievable sublime in creation, in that even Aylmer knows of the fact that Nature, in other terms the earth, would be able to cause curse or ruin, as it does so with Georgiana s death. • 12. Stigmatization Of Black Queer Men Essay Stigmatization of Black Queer Men For every Black man that is born, each is gifted with the rigid expectations of being a hyper masculine male. These expectations seemed to be passed down through generations from family members. The study African American Gay Youth and Their Families: Redefining Masculinity, Coping with Racism and Homophobia. , portrays some of the hardships of coming out within this specific community. A mother who was interviewed in this study said You are told to be a man ... and being a man does not mean you sleep with other men, she said. Being a man means you have a woman and you procreate and continue the family name. And for queer black men especially, this expectation of needing a woman to be the validation for your manhood takes a toll on them and their ability to feel safe in coming out. In this essay I intend to outline the problematic expectations and stigmatization of the black queer male community and develop ways in which this problem can start to be overcome while dealing with different sections of intersectionality. Black men are often viewed as emotionless, physically strong, hyper sexual, and mischievous. There are so many rules surrounding what passing is as a man. However, not all of these rules are created by Black men themselves. These are the rules the media portrays, neighbors portray and even women in elevators clutching their purses portray. Baldur was a generous, joyful, and courageous character who gladdened the hearts of all who spent time with him. When, therefore, he began to have ominous dreams of some grave misfortune befalling him, the fearful gods appointed Odin to discover their meaning. Odin mounted his eight legged steed, Sleipnir, and rode him to the underworld. When he reached the cold and misty underworld, he found the halls arrayed in splendor, as if some magnificent feast were about to occur. He soon found out that guest of honor for this festivity was to be none other than Baldur. Odin returned in sorrow to Asgard, the gods celestial stronghold, and told his fellow gods what he had been told. Frigg, wanting for any chance of saving her treasured son, went to every thing in the cosmos and obtained oaths to not harm Baldur. After these oaths were secured, the gods made a sport out of the situation. They threw sticks, rocks, and anything else on hand at Baldur, and everyone laughed as these things bounced off and left the shining god unharmed. Loki saw an opportunity to cause mischief and took it. In disguise, he went to Frigg and asked her, Did all things swear oaths to spare Baldur from harm? Oh, yes, the goddess replied, everything except the mistletoe. But the mistletoe is so small and innocent a thing that I felt it superfluous to ask it for an oath. What harm could it do to my son? Immediately after hearing this, Loki located the mistletoe, and brought it to where the gods were playing their new favorite game. The largest DBH value was also the large angiosperm at 257 cm. The lowest DBH value was also the small angiosperm at 22 cm. The log transformed standard deviation for DBH was .3525. The graphic used to depict this is Figure 2: log transformed DBH and H. In this graph we can see that by plotting log DBH line crosses with the log H line. Since both the lines intersect with each other it shows they have a direct relationship with each other. If they were parallel lines, then would show that they do not have a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hamid, through his choice of names, brilliantly doubles his characters as motifs. All the significant characters have a symbolic identity and thus, he is simultaneously telling two stories, but not in the traditional sense expected of a frame story, for this is not a story within a story, but rather, a story behind a story. The frame takes Changez back to the past, but when he finishes retelling the past, the frame is no more and the reader is back in the present. Therefore, when the past is put in conjunction with the happenings in the cafe, only one story is being told. The second story is conveyed through the interaction of the motifs and requires a little intuition (not that much) on the reader s part to decipher its meaning. In using the motifs to convey a variety of messages, the relationship between Changez and Erica is especially saturated with clues of their secret identities. Erica had only one previous lover, Chris, her childhood sweetheart who died of cancer in late adolescence and whom she is never able to let go. Initially, she was severely depressed but eventually recovered from the ordeal. However, as Erica s intimacy with Changez grows, so does her feeling of nostalgia. • 28. Trade Policy For The New President Essay Kyra Boland Pecorino EC 430 001 10 November 2016 Trade Policy for the New President: Concerning Immigration In the recent decades, member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have seen rapid growth in the foreign born population which has stimulated research on the socio economic impacts of immigration. There has been great amounts of research done to produce literature like that of Gould (1994) that propose that immigration has proven statistically to have a significant positive impact on international trade. Considering President Elect Donald Trump s views on the issue of immigration and its economic impacts are rather poor, it is imperative to present evidence of the positive result of immigration will benefit the United States rather than cost it. The early rhetoric of the election displayed rather ill intentions toward the growing foreign born population that is continually entering the United States; however the increased immigration theoretically will, apart from its impact on the labor market in the host country, have positive effects on the increase of trade between immigrants host and home countries. Within the pioneering studies of Gould (1994), links have been made that immigrants affect both imports and exports for the United States. It is suggested in Gould s reports that immigration, specifically immigration induced population growth, increases both aggregate demand and output. Therefore, the demand for imports ... • 31. The Conformity Of Individuality In Henry David Twain s... A nation is only as good as the people who comprise it. In regards to the United States, tragedy permeates the nation when its citizens decide to conform to the standards imposed by the majority. As a multitude of Americans alter themselves to fit in and be accepted, their individuality floats away into the abyss. Nevertheless, the process of conforming may not always be such a bad thing. Conforming gives Americans the ability to connect to species that holds immense value. A species greater than anything they could have ever became while isolated. Now, although humans unconsciously conform to the standards of others, this process of conforming is detrimental to all Americans as it diminishes a person s self identity along with their true life s purpose. Every standard and regulation an American abides by is influenced by their fellow citizens. The basic human nature of a person propels them to conform to the lifestyle of others. This concept is present within Henry David Thoreau s Civil Disobedience in which he explains that even the most successfully men can be imposed on [...] for their own advantage. Thoreau implies that when a person is exposed to others of high authority or legitimacy, they develop the desire to act like and feel acceptance from said persons.
