The Impact of Acronyms Use in Facebook on Language
Based on the observations and results that I gathered for 2 weeks, I found out that most of my
participant who uses Facebook daily uses acronym to update their status, provide feedback or
comment, chatting with other users, to give out information or to post personal details through
Facebook. For my research, I found out 5 most common acronyms used by my participants which are
BT, FYI, TQ, BTW, and FB. When asked about this, my sample gives out different opinion and reason
on why they tend to use this acronym when using Facebook.
In my view, they use acronym to shorten the sentence when they update their status in Facebook via
Facebook mobile as well as to reduce the time taken to type the full sentence. When asked about
whether using acronym limited the use and application of languages, they did not think about it at all.
For example, Mr. K from Evidence 4 stated that he does not care about language when he update his
status or chat with his friend in Facebook. For him, he only cares about using correct form of language
when he was in a formal environment, as an example, speaking to his English lecturer.
Moving on, from the findings or results that I have gathered, I place my focus on only 5 acronyms in
order to narrow my observation. However, I will discuss the 5 acronyms more in the view of semantic.
Semantically, all five acronyms mentioned in my research have different meaning. As I set my
observation throughout the 2 weeks period of time, I place my studies of

How and Why Industrialization, Population and Urbanization are related: Social Relations, Social
Control and Law?
Industrialization, Population Growth and Urbanization are in dynamic relationship with each other
that also has been contributing to change various aspects of Social Relations, Social Control and Law.
America is taken as the typical example illustrating this topic because this country is one of the
pioneers starting up those processes and witnessing their pros and cons in spectacular aspects. First of

was 298,977; it rose to 1,698,575 in 1900 and in 1920 it reached the number of 2,701,705. Seattle is
another typical example which had the population of 1,107 in 1870 and in 1920 it increased nearly
285 times with the number of 315,312. Additionally, in 1840, the U.S had only 131 cities and by 1900
that number had risen to over 1,700. Eventually these activities brought out abundant urbanization
issues, such as environmental degradation, typically in the quality of water, air and noise; inefficient
transportation system; overcrowding; housing; unemployment; rise in crime due to poverty and lack of
control; the sharp contrast between the rich and the poor; etc. For example, cheap accommodation was
developed as tall, narrow tenement buildings in dark, crowed, unpleasant and unhealthy living
conditions. Pollution and poor sanitation caused fatal epidemics in cities.
Those disadvantages of urbanization and industrialization sparked serious riots and strikes by workers.
Not only workers but also the American in general advocated reform of country s economic, political,
and social system during the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. By 1917, the reformers had brought
tremendous changes in government s responsibilities to the citizen, reducing poverty, enhancing living
conditions of the poor and regulating big business. This era

San Joaquin Valley Drinking Water Pollution Case Study
While nitrates are one of the major contaminants in the area, San Joaquin Valley residents face
drinking water pollution from many other sources including arsenic, coliform bacteria, and pesticides.
Arsenic is a naturally occurring semi metal element that is found in different types of rocks. While
arsenic primarily occurs naturally, human activities impact the amount of arsenic in groundwater.
Arsenic is not only toxic at high concentrations, but also harmful after prolonged exposure at
moderately elevated levels. California recognizes arsenic as a human carcinogen and believes
prolonged exposure to the element to be associated with various cancers, including skin, bladder,
kidney, lung, and liver cancers. A study in Maine found a connection between water contaminated ...

Some toxicologists argue that the new standard is still not sufficiently protective, especially of
children, because studies have recorded reductions in IQ due to chronic arsenic contamination at
concentrations below the MCL. While some water systems have been able to comply with the new
MCL for arsenic contamination, others have struggled to make the necessary changes and additions to
infrastructure to bring their systems into compliance. A report from the Environmental Integrity
Project in 2016 found that in California, there were 95 public drinking water systems that had arsenic
levels above the federal limit, leaving 55,985 residents with arsenic contaminated drinking water. The
majority of the communities still affected were low income communities and communities of color,

Chemical Reactions And Chemical Reaction Types Essay
Abstract
This paper is about chemical reactions and chemical reaction types. All the data gathered was from
conducting multiple experiments. Each experiment was performed carefully and analyzed to obtain
the necessary information for the paper. That information included the four signs of a chemical
change, the rnx type, and more.
Introduction
A chemical reaction is a process in which elements or compounds react with one another to create new
or different substances. There are two parts to a reaction. Those two parts are the products and the
reactants. The reactants are the chemicals or chemical compounds that are going through the reaction
itself. The products are chemical elements or chemical compounds that are produced as a result of the
reactant or reactants reacting. There are four key indications that there s a chemical reaction is taking
place. Those four signs include a change in color and/or odor, formation of a precipitate or a gas, the
release or absorption of energy (light, heat, electricity), and if the reaction is irreversible. Along with
this information, there are ways to predict the products of a reaction.
When dealing with chemical reaction there are equations called chemical equations. Chemical
equations give the reactants and products of a chemical reaction. When given just the reactants of an
equation, you can predict the products by balancing each side of the equation. The products and
reactions are separated by an rnx arrow

Metaphysical Poems
Metaphysical Poets
John Donne and Andrew Marvell were considered metaphysical poets based on their use of conceit
and wit in depicting similar situations through different metaphors. They would use original analogies
to create fitting and insightful comparisons, usually to persuade.
John Donne and Andrew Marvell have been called metaphysical poets. This is a, name given to a
group of English lyric poets of the 17th century (Metaphysical poets) The term metaphysical poets
came to be used almost one hundred years after the death of the two poets. John Donne died John
Donne in1631 and Andrew Marvell died in 1678. The term later became known as metaphysical

In the second stanza, the speaker argues for the life of the flea, as his lady has moved to kill it. Almost
desperate, the speaker describes the flea as holy. This flea is you and I, and this/Our marriage bed, and
marriage temple is (lines 12 13). He fails to save the flea, as reflected, [p]urpled thy nail in blood of
innocence? She killed the flea and the speaker s last chance of having relations with her. The speaker
at this point realizes that his chance to have sex with this lady is gone. The speaker realized her killing
the flea was his final rejection.
In To His Coy Mistress, the speaker is attempting to use a Carpe Diem method to persuade the young
lady to make love to him. The speaker attempts to persuade the lady with seize the day. The speaker
continues to tell the woman about how short time is, and how they must hurry because no one ever
knows how much time is left. This is evident in by how the poem begins, Had we but world enough,
and time, (page 527) As the poem starts to speed up you realize the speaker is becoming almost
desperate. His promises and analogies become so farfetched. ... I would Love you ten years before the
flood (line 8). Marvell uses symbolism, comparisons and metaphors to show the speaker as this
passionate lover and the lady would be foolish not to give in to his request.
Clearly the two speakers are Metaphysical poets. They have gone in two different directions to try to

A Rose for Emily 17
A Rose for Emily
A Rose for Emily is a story that deals with a women s sentimental illness caused by isolation. Emily
Grierson looses her moral compass, and her trace of reality, her inability to be loved, her desire to be
considered as someone important, was never accomplished. The author shows plans of development;
using characterization, symbolism, and setting. This is a very symbolic and animatic story. William
Faulkner points out his views of empathy towards Emily in the story when he illustrates that Emily
had an emotional abusive upbringing with her father. In addition, we see the historical fiction and
setting which reflects the racist times that was given in the past. A Rose of Emily is also a symbol of a
gothic, and horror ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emily s house symbolizes her state of mind, it was once nice, but then turns into the town most
stubborn and coquettish decay above the cotton wagons and the gasoline pumps an eyesore among
eyesores (140) The breakage and liberation of her freedom held much imagery through her hair cut.
The poison represented revenge against Homer. The story shows archetypes of her emotional state of
denial for example, she told them that her father was not dead (143) . She denies her father s death,
when clearly doctors and ministers were trying to persuade her to that she needed to dispose of his
body. This is a great symbolism of her emotional attachment to her father, and how it affected her state
of mind.
The empathy and sorrow sets the atmosphere of Emily s fallen monument, her emotional breakage
into sadness. The setting of 1894 gives the historical fiction and the enveloping action of the racist
times in America, No Negro woman should appear on the streets without an apron (140) At this period
America still had a racial mind set, and where the rich were treated differently than the poor. We see
the atmosphere of her once upon a time pretty house, described as squarish frame house that had once
been white, decorated with cupolas and spices and scrolled balconies in the heavily lightsome style of
the seventies (140). In addition, this quote also demonstrates local color fiction of the rural areas in
southern America, and Faulkner s regionalism in these

Saudi Arabia Is A Monarchy Built On The Foundation Of Islam
Saudi Arabia is located in the region of the Middle East and North Africa with a population of 28.3
million people. Our government is conflicted in regards to a difficult position in the debate over
climate change and the proposal to limit our carbon omissions by 15 percent in the next five years.
Our country, Saudi Arabia, has the world s largest oil reserves and an economy exclusively centered
on the export of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are known to be the major drives of climate change, thus
causing a problematic deliberation for our government. Our country has an arid climate, which is
highly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change induced weather and global warming. Our

Each province includes its own council that is responsible for advising the governor as well as dealing
with the development aspect of the province. As Saudi Arabia is an Islamic State, our judicial system
is based on Islamic Law, with our King being the highest court of appeal (Sims, 2015).
Although we believe limiting carbon omissions by 15 percent in the next five years will reduce our oil
exports and contribute to a catastrophic decline for our economy, we are willing to consider should
there be a national enforcement mechanism. We are willing to pursue international initiatives to
contest the issues of climate change, although we are one of the largest oil producing countries. In
order to comply, we demand reimbursement in case of a future offset in losses in oil revenue. We as a
country understand the effects of global warming and the fact that our future is deteriorated because of
it. However, many of our people do not recognize climate change as an immense issue that needs to be
addressed. Many often believe that our climate in Saudi Arabia is tremendously hot already; there is
no point in limiting our carbon omissions, as the chance of lost revenue is present. Additionally, with a
growing economy, we will not have the ability to maintain sufficient standards of living with possible
dwelling oil reserve revenue. With enforced compliance, being one of the richest countries in the
world, will attempt to influence the poorer countries to also limit their

Mergers Within Media Companies And Organizations
What is strategic alliance? The book has it defines as an association designed to provide benefits for
each of its members. Media companies form alliances for different reasons. Some of these reasons
include the following, providing access to new markets, increasing shareholder value, and reducing
risk. (Albarran 34) There are different types of strategic alliances, with the most common being
mergers and acquisitions, joint ownerships, joint ventures, and formal and informal cooperative
ventures. (Albarran 34) The expertise of people that work for the respective companies already are
now able to work together and helps build new content. Combined expertise also helps open up doors
to reach new target audiences and demographics. Many companies form alliances to help share in
production and distribution costs. The purpose of this paper is to focus on different mergers within
media companies and organizations. What exactly is a merger? Investopedia defines it as follows A
merger is the combining of two or more companies, generally by offering the stockholders of one
company securities in the acquiring company in exchange for the surrender of their stock. To break it
down in a more simplistic way, a merger is when two companies become one. Majority of the time, if
not all the time, the decision to come together is a mutual agreement between both companies.
Majority of the time when a merger occurs, the company that has the less rank tends to be the

Social Identity Essay On Fishing
As a female college student, I have many identities. Some identities change, others don t, but either
way, they all have something in common they are each known as our social identity. One person can
have many social identities, just and many people can share a social identity. This phenomenon often
creates a common ground between people who may seem completely different. Social identities can
be anything for a lover of a certain type of music, sport, activity, or even just where these people are
from. I have moved a lot through my years, but no matter where I go, I can always find people who

I know this may sound harsh if you are not a hunter, but to hunters, it is more than just killing an
animal. It is retelling the stories of our ancestors, and providing us with the food God has provided for
us. When looking at types of hunting that take place, there are many different forms. The most popular
of which are deer hunting, squirrel hunting, turkey hunting, elk/moose hunting, and big game hunting.
Big game hunting is most often hunting done in other countries. Many times, it is found on the
continent of Africa, where people can big game hunt, where they hunt rhinos, elephants, lions, and
many other animals. Each type of hunting has certain people who love that type more than the others.
Often times, this itself is a big source of social identity within the realm of hunters. An important note
to make is how hunting is an ever decreasing part of our lives. An article talks about this decline and
mentions how From 1963 to 1967, the first years for which Alabama has data, an average of more than

Blanche Dubois Patriarchy
Tennessee William s A Streetcar Named Desire distorts truth within Blanche s mind ( I don t tell the
truth. I tell what ought to be the truth ) to the extent that veracity itself is disintegrated unconsciously
into her inner deceptive conflict of illusion and reality. Williams externalises this conflict in the
typification of Blanche and Stanley as Nietzsche s Apollonian Dionysian dialectic in the inevitable
destruction of Blanche in her lies, coerced by women s suffering due to the onslaught of patriarchy.
Back to secrets and lies The deaths that Blanche suffers engender her characterisation as the
Apollonian in her world of delusion and lies. Allan s suicide becomes the first of Blanche s traumatic
encounters with death ( All of those deaths! The long parade to the graveyard ) embodying in her
personified monologue the imminence of death ( Why, the Grim Reaper had put up his tent on our
doorstep! ). Further, this necrophobia and her guilt for Allan s suicide, elicited by the leitmotif
Varsouviana provokes her deterioration into her fantasy as a substratum of her anguish, becoming the
epitome of the Apollonian. Moreover, Allan s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

question how could I stay here with him, after last night, with just those curtains between us? Thus,
Williams encapsulates Blanche as the exemplar of patriarchy s stigmatisation of female sickness, and
fear of feminine sexuality that threatens the balance of the household and

Lets Put Pornography Back In The Closet Analysis

An example is In many repressive countries whether in Central America, Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe,

against women and men. (Dority). Dority explains that pornography is not the problem of violence in
a society where there isn t any pornography. Another example is Sexism and violence toward women,
and men, was a reality long before pornography as we know it today existed and long before there
were facilities for the mass distribution of words and images. Sexist and violent materials are
symptoms of a sexist and violent society not the causes. (Dority). Dority states that pornography isn t
the problem because sexism and violence where there first before pornography. People are the ones
who created an environment that was use to violent and sexism so they try to put the blame on porno
because it is the easy way out. If we see that in other countries pornography isn t the problem from
violent or sexism, then why should we censor something that isn t causing any problems?
First Amendment is freedom of speech, press, religion, peacefully assemble. McWilliams states With

Similarities Between The New England, The Middle Colonies...
In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed to find the Indies, but instead he found an undiscovered
continent which would soon be called the New World. The New World was full of fresh possibilities,
promises of treasures, and religious freedom; it was a place that could be called home. After years of
conquest and settling, four regions came about on the East Coast of North America: New England, the
Middle Colonies, the Southern Colonies, and the Chesapeake colonies. The colonists had their
similarities such as that they were ruled by England, though their government was the majority self
governed, they were mostly Protestants who did not agree with the Roman Catholic Church, they had
the same culture, and there was some religious tolerance. Despite these similarities, they were still
quite different. The New England region contained two combined colonies. There was Massachusetts
and Rhode Island, made to be the Massachusetts Bay Colony. This colony began with settlers differing
from religious norm. The religion was mainly Puritan, those who wanted to get rid of Catholicism
from the Church of England. On the other hand, the Toleration Act, declared in 1649, and made by
Parliament towards New England, forced their tolerance of other religions. Despite that tolerance, the
Puritans were still reluctant to accept the other religions causing colonists of those religions to travel
to further west for their own religious freedom. The Massachusetts Bay Colony s economy relied on

The Existence Of God In The Last Question
The existence of God is a topic that humanity has wrestled with since perhaps the beginning. The view
of God from various cultures and civilizations differs in a sense, but remains true to the entity of what
it means to be a deity. Each culture throughout history has been able to put their spin on what it means
to be a god, whether it be in the form of Zeus for the Greeks, Mars for the Romans, or Brahma for the
Hindus. However, among each of these cultures a god is still a divine being capable of powers beyond
the reach of the human and mortal dimension. In The Last Question, Isaac Asimov illuminates a
unique perspective on what it is to be a god, human relationship to God, and the form a god can take.

it once was. Creating order in the previously chaotic universe would only be feasible under the power
of divine influence for it is a law of the universe itself that chaos shall trump order. This demonstrates
power that transcends the universe and dimensions of man, and that because Multivac has this
boundless influence, Multivac is therefore a God. While Multivac is God by its traits, being God also
requires being God to something. If a god is to be divine and transcend limitations in a domain, there
must be a domain to transcend. In this set of logic I believe that a god is not only defined by form,
power, and knowledge, but also by relationship. To be a god over man, you must be a god of

The Best Research Approach For Sanitarium Market Research
Assignment 2
Di Zhang
110069398
Scenario 1
Discussion of target respondents:
The target respondent of Sanitarium is customers who did purchase so good coconut milk in the last
12 month. As the objective for this research is aiming to gain an understanding of who is buying their
so good coconut milk, how they are using, how they view so good coconut milk and if they use other
sanitarium products. And other group of target respondent would be sales people who work in the
market for Sanitarium products, because their feedback is also important to achieve the research
objectives.
Discussion of research approach:
The best research approach for Sanitarium market research would be the combination of qualitative
and quantitative method. Qualitative research is a broad umbrella term that cover a wide range of
techniques and philosophies. In broad terms, qualitative research is an approach that allows you to
examine people s experiences in detail information, it include method such as in depth interview,
focus groups, content analysis etc. (Frederick, 2015) Quantitative research method quantifies data and
focus on a large number of data, it meet the objective of the research project as to find out the number
of best sell product. Similarly, using primary data is the dedicated to the problem at hand, also it is
very useful for face to face interview (Zikumund 2014)
Discussion of method:
For Sanitarium, a combination of questionnaire and focus groups interview would be ideal to

Baldr s Dichotomy
The dichotomy between Baldr and Loki could have led to Baldr s murder. Loki could be acting out of
jealousy. Everyone loves Baldr, while the other gods dislike Loki despite his utility to them. Loki also
gives gifts to the gods. He gifts Odin his child, Sleipnir and gives Thor an enemy, the Midgard Serpent
(39, 52). The gods distrust of Loki prevents them from seeing Loki s contributions to society. Baldr
does not give any gifts, yet he receives Frigg s protection (65). Loki could be reacting out of envy
when he kills Baldr. Frigg works to give Baldr invincibility because of his dream of his murder (65).
However, the text does not say Baldr can see into the future, so his dream should not have any effect
on his safety. This gift does not logically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, Jungian theorists frequently utilize gender as a way to categorize archetypes. In particular,
Mitchell Walker proposes another archetype called the double in his article The Double: An
Archetypal Configuration in 1976 (Walker, Mitchell). In essence, the double represents an

The partner and the competitor break down the archetype and illustrate the positive and negative

Compare And Contrast The End Of History And Fukuyama
The end of the Cold War was not just a politically significant event but also an important intellectual
milestone, where academics, researchers and intellectuals examined the consequences that its end
would concur. Fukuyama s The End of History and Huntington s Clash of Civilizations are two of
such explorations but contrast each other significantly. Fukuyama predicts a future of peace, or
minimal conflict, amidst the spread of Western liberal democracy, a system of government he believes
has been actualized as perfect in Hegel s realm of consciousness whereas Huntington argues that
conflict will stem from civilizational differences, owing to the rise in civilization consciousness. I will
start my essay by briefly summarizing the main arguments of each article, after which I will attempt to
critique each one before drawing comparisons between the two.

They can essentially both be viewed as imperialists in the disguise of academia. In trying to argue that
fascism and communism were imperialist forces that the West defeated, Fukuyama forgot to consider
that the capitalism itself is one of those forces, guided by capital gain, and exploitation. In that sense,
when he argues about the appreciation of American culture in other countries, it becomes a new
imperialism of culture where there is a new global proletariat of weaker countries who can t afford to
have protectionist economies to safeguard their values because then the West wont help them.
Nonetheless, neither Huntington nor Fukuyama tells us what we need to know in order to synthesize
their perspectives, or to ultimately decide between

My Great Grandfather
In 1897, my great great grandfather was born in North Carolina. His name was Roy Hudson. He
served in the army in World War One and he died in 1960 from a lengthy issue with his heart. His
heart issues started when he developed pleurisy, most likely from sleeping on the cold, wet ground
while in the Army during World War One. He was only sixty three years old when he died. Just before
he died, he gave his wife, my great great grandmother, his glasses, a book, and a billfold. My great
great grandmother s name was Roland Goddard. She was born in 1898 in North Carolina, and her
parents died when she was only eight years old. She was very active in her community, and acted in
community plays. She was very kind, and she sang beautifully. In 1979, she died when she was eighty
one years old. One of Roland´s children, Doris Hudson, was born in North Carolina in 1927. She is
my great grandmother, and she is still living. She is ninety years old and I call her Gaga. She fell a few
months ago and could not walk for a while, but she recovered and is now able to walk slowly. When I
was too young to go to daycare, she would babysit me all day. She thought that is was alright for me to
eat cookies when I could barely eat solid food. She also thought that I was hungry every time that I
cried, therefore I was a very chubby baby. She had three children; Bobby Rose, Jacquelyn Jackie
Rose, and Jerry Rose. Jackie is my grandmother. She was born in Virginia, but moved to Buras,
Louisiana, then later moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. She played outfield on a semi professional
softball team, and she was a teacher, although she retired after the 2016 2017 school year. She had two
children; Michael Marino, and Jamie Marino. Jamie is my mother. She was born in Virginia, but
moved to Buras, Louisiana, then to Shreveport, Louisiana. She currently teaches music at Sunset
Acres Elementary, but she has held other teaching jobs as an English or history teacher. She received
her Bachelor s degree in teaching at LSUS, and received her Master s degree in teaching through
online classes at Northwestern University. She served in the secret service under President Bush, and

Key Ideas In The Film The Killing Fields
What is the main idea of The Killing Fields ? In the film The Killing Fields , there are lots of key
ideas, which make the film watchable and likeable. One of the key ideas of The Killing Fields is the
development of the friendship between, Dith Pran and Sydney Shanberg. Another key idea, in the
film, is survival. Survival was an important factor for Pran as he was captured, and was taken to a
working camp where, the Khmer Rouge ran the camps. The main idea of The Killing Fields is the
lasting friendship, between Dith Pran and Sydney Shanberg. At the start of the film, Shanberg is
experiencing lots of horrific things, right beside Pran and no matter what happens, they stick together,
through it all. When Shanberg found out the American embassy was going to be evacuated, he told
Pran to get his family out of Cambodia. Therefore Shanberg helped out Pran, and his family. This
helps Pran and Shanberg create a stronger relationship. Another example of how strong their
friendship is, was when the American Embassy was evacuated, despite all the dangers that they are
going to faced, they decided they would stay in Cambodia and finish the story together. Again
showing how strong Shanberg and Pran s friendship is. Another major example to show how Shanberg

Military Apprenticeship Paper
United Services Military Apprenticeship Program (USMAP)
Veteran s today face many challenges as they seek civilian jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics 2014 report more than 190,000 of the 2.8 million Gulf War II Veterans cannot find work,
USMAP could help resolve this issue (Watson, 2014). Senior Enlisted Leaders need to understand the
advantages USMAP in order to provide transitioning service members from active duty to civilian life.
This paper will provide the background information, discussion, and recommendation for the
increased use of USMAP.
Background Information
Veteran unemployment is an ever increasing issue for service members departing from active duty.
USMAP established as a formal military training program in 1999 through the consolidation of the
U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Naval apprenticeship programs, and the U.S. Coast Guard apprenticeship
programs in 2007, the program supplies service members with certification as Journey Workers per
standards of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) in specific occupational fields. USMAP could
seriously assist in reducing the number of unemployed veterans. With the background information
provided, the discussion will provide further information.

trade they pursue as long as it relates to their military occupation. Upon completion of the program,
participants receive a nationally recognized Completion Certificate to help attract employers when a
service member returns to the civilian workforce (Aleshire, 2012). A current trend in USMAP shows
an increase in personnel registering in the program, however due to current deployments and
schedules many members are not completing for the following reasons (Shatkin ,

Essay On Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal cord compression/injury
Definition
Spinal cord injuries are fractures or dislocations to the vertebrae. Spinal cord injuries can be classified
as either complete or incomplete. Complete means that spinal cord can no longer send messages
below the injured area resulting in paralysis. With incomplete spinal cord injuries there is still some
movement and sensation below the injured area. Spinal cord injuries can be caused for many reason
including but not limited to: hyperflexion, hyperextension, axial loading or vertical compression,
excessive rotation, or penetrating trauma. Spinal cord injuries are commonly caused by vehicle
accidents, violence, falls, and sports injuries.
Physical Assessment/Clinical Manifestations
Loss of movement, loss of sensation, including the ability to feel heat, cold and touch, loss of bowel or

The logos of the article is fundamentally flawed due to the lack of logically sound and accurate

the reader. Healy s article contains bias for the regulation of ammunition sales, as well as confusing
terminology. The article contains contradictory and inaccurate facts, and quotes selected for emotional
impact rather than relevance and purpose. First I will address some of the logical contradictions in the
article. Healy said Unhindered by federal background checks or government oversight, the 24 year old

critics call a virtual absence of any laws regulating ammunition sales In this quote Healy leads the

article Healy admits there are laws restricting ammunition sales in Illinois, Massachusetts, and New
Jersey as well as cities like Los Angeles and Sacramento. Healy contradicts his earlier point by
highlighting the states that do have laws regarding the sales of ammunition. This contradiction leaves
the reader not knowing which conclusion is valid. The second flaw in the

Introduction
The remarkable success of Kalpana Chawla is an inspiration to all Indian women, with special
meaning to those involved in the study of math and science. Kalpana s untimely passing as part of the
Challenger crew is a paradox for the world to understand, yet for her, a woman of remarkable intellect
and clarity of vision, she passed doing what she loved: exploring, pushing the boundaries of space and
furthering scientific discoveries. She is an inspiration and force in my life, and serves to show that
with enough intensity and focused effort, remarkable accomplishments can be attained quickly
throughout ones life.
Growth In Engineering Years
My passion for engineering and electronics began prior to beginning my undergraduate major in
Electronics and Telecommunication. During those years prior to beginning my undergraduate major, I
was fascinated with how mechanical, electro mechanical and electronic devices worked. Those years
were invaluable from a learning standpoint, as I was able to develop analytical and engineering skills I
would use throughout my academic career.
During this time period I initiated many projects, the majority of which included mechanical
inventions, electromechanical devices and explorations of electronics.
During this time I also began to develop an interest in computer networking and the study of the

Summary Of Walk Well My Brother By Farley Mowat
As a plane crashes somewhere in northern Canada, two passengers have been left to survive on their
own, but first, they must recognize and put aside their significant differences. In the short story Walk
Well My Brother by Farley Mowat, Charlie, a white, male, airplane operator, and Konala, a young,

ignorant while Konala is intelligent, Charlie is selfish while Konala is selfless, and Charlie is not good
at dealing with stressful situations and Konala, on the other hand, is very good at dealing with stressful

attempting to distract the beast (Mowat 80). During this time in the story, Konala is taking care of,
feeding, and giving Charlie all the means to live. This act of courage by Konala clearly shows the
selflessness and kindness of herself to the extent that she distracted a bear to give Charlie a better
chance of surviving. Charlie s characteristic of selfishness is seen throughout the story but most of all
during the beginning of the story when Charlie was in Yellowknife. A young Eskimo touched his arm
and pointed to the tent, as he went over he said, Theses huskies might have a few white fox pelts to
trade (Mowat 171). This quote shows that the only reason Charlie went into the tent was not to see if
everything was okay but it was to see if there was anything he could get out of walking over to the
tent, in turn being very selfish. At this point in the story Charlie is asked to fly Konala to a hospital,
and at first, he says no, but one of the other men shows two walrus tusks [...] of exceptional quality

The Between Modern And Modern Movement
Even if the Modern Movement has been interpreted in different ways, we consider function and
technology its main features . In fact, in this historical period, the exhibition of the tecnique takes, in
the designing process, different appearences, assuming solutions which go from the constructivism to
the expressionism, where every technical reference is hidden by a strong formalism.
Another analogy present in the Modern Movement is the function, that is the interaction between a
specific purpose and the natural purposes, existing priori.
All the modern architecture is based on this analogy interaction which defines its built forms and
compositive processes on the relation between a purpose to achieve and the inevitable of its relation
with the man, by finalizing to his life all the expressions of this purpose. All the estetic in the Modern
Movement pass through the obsession of the function, it is possible to see the manifestation of the
Modernism as a process connecting form, function and final purpose with the fact that we are a human
and vital act.
The Modernism presents the exaltation of the machine, of the aesathetic of dynamism, of speed and
industrialization. The celebration of the irreversible alienation that the machine, as a metaphor of
progression, causes on humans, and the breaking of ties between nature and artifact, are two of the
main features of the Modern Movement.

Virtue In The Odyssey
For centuries in literature, philosophers studied the idea of virtue to demonstrate the uphold of moral
excellence and righteousness within characters. Eventually becoming a staple in Western literature,
virtue can be described as the balance and imbalance of qualities specified by the philosopher Plato.
He thought much of virtue, and eventually defined it according to the four criteria: courage, prudence,
temperance, and justice. Plato portrayed courage as the showing of bravery in the midst of danger,
prudence is one s ability to show good judgment and to put other s needs before their own; temperance
is a person s knowledge of when to show restraint and justice is when one gives to others what is

that K has slim to nothing for lawyers, he has been looking and all he can find is a painter to help. All

Various representation systems were introduced to represent signed integer numbers, including signed

be extended to encode fractional data by employing an implicit or explicit radix point that denotes the

systems, where the term fixed point implies that the scaling factor is constant during the computation

The Paradoxes Of Gender, By Judith Lorber
Judith Lorber s idea of gender meaning both sameness and difference is the key concept in Night to
His Day, an excerpt from her book The Paradoxes of Gender. In Night to His Day Lorber s main goal
in this piece is to show how gender is socially constructed. She does this by stating the many
components of gender within society that could be perpetrated either as a social institution (sameness)
or what gender is composed of at an individual level (difference). This paper will use examples from
Marilyn Monroe s The Seven Year Itch to demonstrate these components of gender.
At it s time, The Seven Year Itch was highly received in popular culture. This popularity was in large

In this scene, Richard s wife explains to their son that his father couldn t leave on vacation with them
because he had to stay home to make the money. This shows that families, at least at New York atn
this time, were almost totally dependent on the husbands income. That isn t to say that there were no
women working in the city at this time, but in multiple scenes it is clear that the women that stayed to
work didn t have families, meaning they had to support themselves, and had jobs that were less
corporate or hands on.
Marilyn Monroe s character was an of one of these women. She is unmarried and mentions no family
throughout the movie. She stays in New York working as a model and actress and makes just enough
to get by. Even though she is not married to Richard, she still shows a sort of dependence to him, like

personalities, or females depending on the males in their lives. Another example of the division of
labor would be Richard s secretary. Although her role is quite minor and it is never explicitly stated, it

Analysis Of The Poem Battle Royal
The primary method for judging the worth of a piece of literature is its organic unity or the complex
way all the elements of a test contribute to a story s meaning. The images, symbols, and metaphors in
Ellison s Battle Royal give this story a whole new meaning. In 1947, when this short story was
published, the black community was at an all time low. The main aspects of this piece have ambiguous
meanings behind them. The grandfather s death scene, the naked dancer, the battle royal, the narrator s
speech, and the narrator s dream all have significant symbolism. The grandfather s death had a major
impact on the narrator s life. As the grandfather passed away he stated, Son, after I m gone I want you
to keep up the good fight... Live with your head in the lion s mouth... Let em swoller you till they
vomit or bust wide open (Ellison, 1495). These words seem to act as spiritual guidance for the
narrator. Throughout the story the readers see the narrator refer back to these words. The grandfather
dies with a legacy that haunts blacks regardless of social, political, and economic progress. The social,
political, and economic system is seen when the naked blonde s erotic dance is described. Overall, this
scene represents America s distorted value system. The symbolism made by flag tattoo on the dancer
is actually a depiction of the relentless pursuit of money, sex, and power. The men, in the room where
the dancing took place, were not considerate of the dancer s

Moses In The Land Of Goshen
Moses, son of Abraham and Jochebed, was born in the Land of Goshen, modern day Egypt. At the
time due to the law that the Pharaoh had put in place all first born children of the Israelites had to be
drowned in the Nile River to prevent children from growing up and retaliating against the Pharaoh
himself. Moses was put in the Nile, but wasn t drowned. Jochebed couldn t drown her own son so she
put him in a basket and let him float down the Nile. As he floated by the Pharaoh s estate, the
Pharaohs daughter rescued him from the Nile and named him, and thus he was raised by Egyptian
royalty. At the beginning of the book of Exodus Moses speaks to G d through the burning bush, where
G d appoints him the leader of the Israelites and instructs him ... Show more content on

This becomes more evident when Moses marries, Zipporah, a woman from the Midianites (Exodus
2:15 22). Together they have a son named Gershon, which is thought to translate to exile. Sigmund
Freud argues that the Israelite genealogy of Moses roots was only created to mask the true Egyptian
roots of Moses. The Promised Land was promised to the Israelites and the death of Moses at the hands
of G d may be a way of sending a message to the people of Israel. By killing Moses, the leader of the
people for the past 40 years, G d is communicating to the people that even someone with very little
Egyptian heritage doesn t deserve to live in the Promised Land, no matter how important they ve been
to the freedom of the Israelites. This hypothesis would argue that Moses was killed by G d purely to
send a message to the people of Israel to prove how privileged they are to be permitted into the
Promised Land, creating an extreme sense of

Summary Of The Virgin Of Guadalupe
The Virgin of Guadalupe represented a melding of indigenous and Western cultures, a woman who
was both a symbol of Catholicism, but appeared to an indigenous man and spoke in Nahuatl. The
Virgin stemmed from syncretism of Catholicism with indigenous religions after Catholics realized that
they needed to accept indigenous idols and beliefs if they wanted to spread their religion in Columbian
era Mexico. However, over time, the Virgin of Guadalupe has come to represent not only religion but
something inherently Mexican due her origins are non polarizing, her being associated with both
indigenous and Western culture. Ideologically, she also came to represent the idea of purity when
contrasted with La Malinche, who Mexicans view as a representation of betrayal. The Virgin s place in
the virgin/whore dichotomy is what cements her place in history not only as a religious symbol but
also as a symbol for all of Mexico, something which represents purity and one s pride in Mexico itself.
Mexican Mosaic, quoting Carlos Fuentes, describes this ironic view of the Virgin s place in a country
with the state sponsored religion as how one may no longer consider himself a Christian, but one
cannot truly be considered a Mexican unless one believes in the Virgin of Guadalupe (Buchenau 23).
The Virgin represents an inherent purity that all Mexicans strive to achieve. Although she is
intrinsically Catholic, she appears to be associated more with the history and culture of Mexico itself.

How Did Geography Influence Ancient Egyptian Religion
This investigation attempts to correctly analyze in what way the geography of Egypt influenced the
ancient Egyptian religion. This query is very relevant because, certain geographical items influenced
the creation of the ancient religion that helped shape many religions that are very prevalent today such
as Christianity and Judaism. The issues that will be addressed are how the great Sahara Desert
surrounding the civilization, the Nile river that nourishes the whole population, and how the overall
common beliefs and myths built the foundation of the ancient Egyptian religion and subsequently
influenced modern day religions. This analysis will focus on the time period of 3110 BCE to 550 CE
and the place being examined is the country of Egypt. This will be accomplished through the
exploration of research documents and informational novels. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The purpose of this journal was to inform scholars and readers about the country of Egypt and its
origins: the Ancient Egyption civilization and how it was built upon nature itself. The value of Hansen
s journal gives the perspective of a whole new world and geographical features. Egypt is surrounded
by harsh unlivable climats, but the civilization was able to last over 500 years by using their
geographical resources to their advantage to create faith, protection, and life as described by Kathy.
Kathy has a PHD that she gained from Union University and is an associate publisher of
Quintessential Careers. Despite the highly informative ideas, a limitation of the book is that it was
written to describe Egyptian environmental aspects for readers to learn more about Egypt and maybe
the desire to someday travel to Egypt. The book may have the perspective of a sort of travel guide
showing a small bais while, trying to persuade people to travel to

Dr Temple Grandin Analysis
Society has created an environment where those with different abilities struggle to be accepted. Doctor
Temple Grandin is a remarkable woman who has defied what most perceive when they see someone
with autism. From the time, Temple was young she proved doctors wrong. While in boarding school
and later in college a few of her professors did not believe her observations or in her work with cattle.
They simply did not comprehend the enormous amount of detail her brain absorbed and her
connection to animals which allowed her to gain access to this knowledge. Temple did not let autism
outline her life or what her life ought to be like.

One example was bullying, which is rising in our school systems today. As someone who was bullied,
I admire her for persevering her dreams which was what she believed to be a better solution for
slaughtering cattle. Which she believed this was a system that was not as perfect as it could be.
Always following her gut for change even though several people seemed to not care to change and
preferred it to stay the way it was. This was not an easy task and more difficult when so many around
her did not believe in her. However, she focused more on those who did support her and tried to ignore
the negativity. Her bravery to march into a slaughterhouse to see how improvements could be made is
something I would assume to be impossible. It took courage for her to continue to go to the feedlot
even after workers put bull testicles on her truck. Though, who accepted her and could see her
amazing gift, they did not always understand how her mind worked but they accepted her for who she
was. Others soon realized what a unique ability she had. Such as, the reporter from the Arizona
Farmer Ranchman who said her cattle dip was a

Research Paper On Bermuda Triangle
The Bermuda or Devils Triangle is though to be a mythical section of the Atlantic Ocean. The
Bermuda Triangle is roughly 140,000 square miles and stretches from Miami to Puerto Rico to
Bermuda. Many myths and theories surround the Bermuda Triangle. Dozens of boats and planes have
disappeared within the boundaries of the Bermuda Triangle. The theories stretch from atmospheric
pressures to UFO s and Atlantis being found in the Devil s Triangle. Only one thing can be said for
certain about the Bermuda Triangle. There were many lives lost within the triangles borders. In 1918
the US Cyclops left Barbados and went into the Bermuda Triangle with a crew of 309 people and

One of these is that the ships and planes got caught in hurricanes. Hurricanes are historically very
powerful and spawn usually around the area where the Bermuda Triangle is. Another theory is the
Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream originates in the Gulf of Mexico and flows up through the straits of
Florida into the North Atlantic. It is essentially a river within a ocean. The average speed of the current
at the top at sea level is 4 mph and could easily carry a small boat away. Another natural explanation
could be freak waves. Freak waves are very large waves that appear almost completely randomly.
These waves can be up to 100ft. tall and have even capsized the worlds largest offshore platform in

criticalness of African history is shown in the very push to prevent anything from claiming the name
of history to Africa and the African people groups. For it is legitimate and obvious that no such
undertaking [falsifying African history] could ever have been gone ahead, and at such length, with a
specific end goal to cloud and cover what is really of practically no noteworthiness. Accessible
archeological proof and complete verifiable records indicate pre Columbian West African
undertakings over the Atlantic between 1307 1312 AD. The work of Al Umars, a fourteenth century

Essay about The Mexican War by Otis A. Singletary
This book by Otis A. Singletary deals with different aspects of the Mexican war. It is a compelling
description and concise history of the first successful offensive war in United States military history.
The work examines two countries that were unprepared for war. The political intrigues and quarrels in
appointing the military commanders, as well as the military operations of the war, are presented and
analyzed in detail. The author also analyzes the role that the Mexican War played in bringing on the
U.S. Civil War.
The Mexican American War of the 1840s, precipitated by border disputes and the U.S. annexation of
Texas, ended with the military occupation of Mexico City by General Winfield Scott. In the

The book is simple and easy to read. The author has a good use of English language. He uses specific
words, therefore making his book highly readable.
The book not only give facts that can be found in any history book that deals with this period of
American history (1840 s), but it also makes the reader appreciate a war that has been undermined by
another very popular war, the Civil war. It explains that the annexation of Texas was not the only
reason for going into war; since there were other factors that motivated Americans anger towards
Mexican military which set the stage for conflict. the annexation of Texas was merely the immediate
cause of hostilities. This gives readers another perspective about the war.
Furthermore, Singletary does a great job in describing how politic interest affected the war greatly. For
example Taylor s desire for politic advancement, and how president Polk try to

Addiction As A Medical Disease
Addiction, defined as a chronic medical disease, has led to great furor in the scientific community.[1]
Some argue that because epidemiologic data shows that most addicts quit, possibly when faced with
social and financial consequences, addiction is based on decisions and thus, should be treated as a
choice. Those in favor of the disease model remark that because experiments have correlatively shown
that drugs can change the brain structurally and functionally, one should treat addiction as a medical
disease. One can expect from both perspectives, that the more important question is whether or not
addiction has a biological aspect to it that can be causally linked to substance abuse behaviors. In this
essay, we will review some of the compelling evidence on both sides of the argument and weigh their
significance in order to come to a logical judgment.
In Lopez Quintero et al., 2013, the purpose of their experiment was to 1) estimate the time to
remission 2) estimate the probability of remission and 3) identify predictors of remission. They
collected epidemiologic data for alcohol, cannabis, cocaine in adults aged 18 24 of the U.S population
in 2001 2002 by an interview from the DSM IV Alcohol Use Disorder and Associated Disabilities
Interview Schedule (AUDADIS). The questions asked participants when they stopped their
dependence and with what drug. In their results, they found that while the probability of remission in
the first year after onset of dependence was very low, a

  • 2. The Impact of Acronyms Use in Facebook on Language Based on the observations and results that I gathered for 2 weeks, I found out that most of my participant who uses Facebook daily uses acronym to update their status, provide feedback or comment, chatting with other users, to give out information or to post personal details through Facebook. For my research, I found out 5 most common acronyms used by my participants which are BT, FYI, TQ, BTW, and FB. When asked about this, my sample gives out different opinion and reason on why they tend to use this acronym when using Facebook. In my view, they use acronym to shorten the sentence when they update their status in Facebook via Facebook mobile as well as to reduce the time taken to type the full sentence. When asked about whether using acronym limited the use and application of languages, they did not think about it at all. For example, Mr. K from Evidence 4 stated that he does not care about language when he update his status or chat with his friend in Facebook. For him, he only cares about using correct form of language when he was in a formal environment, as an example, speaking to his English lecturer. Moving on, from the findings or results that I have gathered, I place my focus on only 5 acronyms in order to narrow my observation. However, I will discuss the 5 acronyms more in the view of semantic. Semantically, all five acronyms mentioned in my research have different meaning. As I set my observation throughout the 2 weeks period of time, I place my studies of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Student: Yen Hoang Keuka College How and Why Industrialization, Population and Urbanization are related: Social Relations, Social Control and Law? Industrialization, Population Growth and Urbanization are in dynamic relationship with each other that also has been contributing to change various aspects of Social Relations, Social Control and Law. America is taken as the typical example illustrating this topic because this country is one of the pioneers starting up those processes and witnessing their pros and cons in spectacular aspects. For instances, according to the statistics provided by Linda Alchin, the population of Chicago in 1870 was 298,977; it rose to 1,698,575 in 1900 and in 1920 it reached the number of 2,701,705. Seattle is another typical example which had the population of 1,107 in 1870 and in 1920 it increased nearly 285 times with the number of 315,312. Additionally, in 1840, the U.S had only 131 cities and by 1900 that number had risen to over 1,700. Eventually these activities brought out abundant urbanization issues, such as environmental degradation, typically in the quality of water, air and noise; inefficient transportation system; overcrowding; housing; unemployment; rise in crime due to poverty and lack of control; the sharp contrast between the rich and the poor; etc. For example, cheap accommodation was developed as tall, narrow tenement buildings in dark, crowed, unpleasant and unhealthy living conditions. Pollution and poor sanitation caused fatal epidemics in cities. Those disadvantages of urbanization and industrialization sparked serious riots and strikes by workers. Not only workers but also the American in general advocated reform of country s economic, political, and social system during the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. By 1917, the reformers had brought tremendous changes in government s responsibilities to the citizen, reducing poverty, enhancing living conditions of the poor and regulating big business. San Joaquin Valley Drinking Water Pollution Case Study While nitrates are one of the major contaminants in the area, San Joaquin Valley residents face drinking water pollution from many other sources including arsenic, coliform bacteria, and pesticides. Arsenic is a naturally occurring semi metal element that is found in different types of rocks. While arsenic primarily occurs naturally, human activities impact the amount of arsenic in groundwater. Arsenic is not only toxic at high concentrations, but also harmful after prolonged exposure at moderately elevated levels. California recognizes arsenic as a human carcinogen and believes prolonged exposure to the element to be associated with various cancers, including skin, bladder, kidney, lung, and liver cancers. A report from the Environmental Integrity Project in 2016 found that in California, there were 95 public drinking water systems that had arsenic levels above the federal limit, leaving 55,985 residents with arsenic contaminated drinking water. • 5. Chemical Reactions And Chemical Reaction Types Essay Abstract This paper is about chemical reactions and chemical reaction types. All the data gathered was from conducting multiple experiments. Each experiment was performed carefully and analyzed to obtain the necessary information for the paper. That information included the four signs of a chemical change, the rnx type, and more. Introduction A chemical reaction is a process in which elements or compounds react with one another to create new or different substances. There are two parts to a reaction. Those two parts are the products and the reactants. The reactants are the chemicals or chemical compounds that are going through the reaction itself. The products are chemical elements or chemical compounds that are produced as a result of the reactant or reactants reacting. There are four key indications that there s a chemical reaction is taking place. Those four signs include a change in color and/or odor, formation of a precipitate or a gas, the release or absorption of energy (light, heat, electricity), and if the reaction is irreversible. Along with this information, there are ways to predict the products of a reaction. When dealing with chemical reaction there are equations called chemical equations. Chemical equations give the reactants and products of a chemical reaction. When given just the reactants of an equation, you can predict the products by balancing each side of the equation. The products and reactions are separated by an rnx arrow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Emily Grierson looses her moral compass, and her trace of reality, her inability to be loved, her desire to be considered as someone important, was never accomplished. The author shows plans of development; using characterization, symbolism, and setting. This is a very symbolic and animatic story. William Faulkner points out his views of empathy towards Emily in the story when he illustrates that Emily had an emotional abusive upbringing with her father. Emily s house symbolizes her state of mind, it was once nice, but then turns into the town most stubborn and coquettish decay above the cotton wagons and the gasoline pumps an eyesore among eyesores (140) The breakage and liberation of her freedom held much imagery through her hair cut. The poison represented revenge against Homer. The story shows archetypes of her emotional state of denial for example, she told them that her father was not dead (143) . She denies her father s death, when clearly doctors and ministers were trying to persuade her to that she needed to dispose of his body. This is a great symbolism of her emotional attachment to her father, and how it affected her state of mind. The empathy and sorrow sets the atmosphere of Emily s fallen monument, her emotional breakage into sadness. The setting of 1894 gives the historical fiction and the enveloping action of the racist times in America, No Negro woman should appear on the streets without an apron (140) At this period America still had a racial mind set, and where the rich were treated differently than the poor. We see the atmosphere of her once upon a time pretty house, described as squarish frame house that had once been white, decorated with cupolas and spices and scrolled balconies in the heavily lightsome style of the seventies (140). I tell what ought to be the truth ) to the extent that veracity itself is disintegrated unconsciously into her inner deceptive conflict of illusion and reality. Williams externalises this conflict in the typification of Blanche and Stanley as Nietzsche s Apollonian Dionysian dialectic in the inevitable destruction of Blanche in her lies, coerced by women s suffering due to the onslaught of patriarchy. Back to secrets and lies The deaths that Blanche suffers engender her characterisation as the Apollonian in her world of delusion and lies. Allan s suicide becomes the first of Blanche s traumatic encounters with death ( All of those deaths! The long parade to the graveyard ) embodying in her personified monologue the imminence of death ( Why, the Grim Reaper had put up his tent on our doorstep! ). Further, this necrophobia and her guilt for Allan s suicide, elicited by the leitmotif Varsouviana provokes her deterioration into her fantasy as a substratum of her anguish, becoming the epitome of the Apollonian. Ergo, she has no true escape in the rhetoric question how could I stay here with him, after last night, with just those curtains between us? • 18. Similarities Between The New England, The Middle Colonies... In 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed to find the Indies, but instead he found an undiscovered continent which would soon be called the New World. The New World was full of fresh possibilities, promises of treasures, and religious freedom; it was a place that could be called home. After years of conquest and settling, four regions came about on the East Coast of North America: New England, the Middle Colonies, the Southern Colonies, and the Chesapeake colonies. The colonists had their similarities such as that they were ruled by England, though their government was the majority self governed, they were mostly Protestants who did not agree with the Roman Catholic Church, they had the same culture, and there was some religious tolerance. Despite these similarities, they were still quite different. The New England region contained two combined colonies. There was Massachusetts and Rhode Island, made to be the Massachusetts Bay Colony. This colony began with settlers differing from religious norm. The religion was mainly Puritan, those who wanted to get rid of Catholicism from the Church of England. On the other hand, the Toleration Act, declared in 1649, and made by Parliament towards New England, forced their tolerance of other religions. Despite that tolerance, the Puritans were still reluctant to accept the other religions causing colonists of those religions to travel to further west for their own religious freedom. The view of God from various cultures and civilizations differs in a sense, but remains true to the entity of what it means to be a deity. Each culture throughout history has been able to put their spin on what it means to be a god, whether it be in the form of Zeus for the Greeks, Mars for the Romans, or Brahma for the Hindus. However, among each of these cultures a god is still a divine being capable of powers beyond the reach of the human and mortal dimension. Creating order in the previously chaotic universe would only be feasible under the power of divine influence for it is a law of the universe itself that chaos shall trump order. This demonstrates power that transcends the universe and dimensions of man, and that because Multivac has this boundless influence, Multivac is therefore a God. In both of the stories, the main characters show what it means to have lost hope. In The Trial, on his thirtieth birthday, Josef K. is arrested unexpectedly. He has no idea what he did or did not accomplish. The trial lasts a year and he never found out what it is about, so he gives up. Josef K. did not know what he did wrong. The trial is never ending, he never found out what it is about, so he gives up. In The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym, the shipmen on Grumpus are constantly facing death by starvation. Josef K. and Pym are victims of loss of hope. As the trial continues Josef K. keeps giving up. He is still unaware of what he did, and of what will happen to him. Josef K. states, By running off some unknown painter, with , as he had to admit, very little hope of any vague benefit, this quote is showing that K has slim to nothing for lawyers, he has been looking and all he can find is a painter to help. All he wants is some help, and for him life to go back to normal, but he knows deep down that there is no hope. Pym keeps giving up hope, he states, May God forgive me, but now, for the first time, there flashed through my mind a thought, a thought which I will not mention, and I felt myself making a step toward the ensanguined spot, what he is saying is that he doesn t want to think or see the death of Augustus. He doesn t want to realize that he is gone. This is an example if loss go hope because even if he knows that Augustus will not recover he doesn t want to believe it, which causes him to give up and lose hope. Pym is constantly having obstacles thrown at him, and that is the reason he loses hope. One quote that Pym stated is, We had little hopes that Augustus would recover, as he evinced no signs of life; but, upon getting to him, we discovered that he had merely swooned from the loss of blood, Pym is saying that Augustus fainted from all of the blood, and there was no hope ... Elements Of Field Programmable Gate Arrays CHAPTER 1 1 INTRODUCTION For the past decades, scientific computation has been a popular research tool among scientists and engineers from numerous areas, including climate modelling, computational chemistry, and bioinformatics .With the maturing of application algorithms, developing high performance computing platforms that satisfy the increasing computational demands, search spaces, and data volume have become a huge challenge. As predicted by Moore s law .faster and faster computers are built to provide more processing power every year. Apparently, speeding up the computation serially alone is no longer enough. In 1967 Amdahl presented a model to estimate the theoretical maximum improvement when multiple processing units were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Various representation systems were introduced to represent signed integer numbers, including signed magnitude, biased, and complement systems .Both the signed and unsigned integer representations can be extended to encode fractional data by employing an implicit or explicit radix point that denotes the scaling factor. These integer based real number representations are generally called fixed point systems, where the term fixed point implies that the scaling factor is constant during the computation without externally reconfigured. As a result, the precision (least represent able value of the unit in the last place, for a fixed point number system cannot be improved without sacrificing its represent able value range. Floating point representation on the other hand provides not only the ability for wide dynamic range support, but also high precision for small values. A typical floating point number is represented in four components, and its value can be calculated with the equation. x = ± s × be, where s is the significant and e is the biased exponent (with implicit bias). • 39. The Paradoxes Of Gender, By Judith Lorber Judith Lorber s idea of gender meaning both sameness and difference is the key concept in Night to His Day, an excerpt from her book The Paradoxes of Gender. In Night to His Day Lorber s main goal in this piece is to show how gender is socially constructed. She does this by stating the many components of gender within society that could be perpetrated either as a social institution (sameness) or what gender is composed of at an individual level (difference). This paper will use examples from Marilyn Monroe s The Seven Year Itch to demonstrate these components of gender. At it s time, The Seven Year Itch was highly received in popular culture. This popularity was in large part because of the female lead, Marilyn Monroe. For quite sometime, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this scene, Richard s wife explains to their son that his father couldn t leave on vacation with them because he had to stay home to make the money. This shows that families, at least at New York atn this time, were almost totally dependent on the husbands income. That isn t to say that there were no women working in the city at this time, but in multiple scenes it is clear that the women that stayed to work didn t have families, meaning they had to support themselves, and had jobs that were less corporate or hands on. Marilyn Monroe s character was an of one of these women. She is unmarried and mentions no family throughout the movie. She stays in New York working as a model and actress and makes just enough to get by. Even though she is not married to Richard, she still shows a sort of dependence to him, like when she asks to stay the night for his air conditioning, which begins to show an example of gendered personalities, or females depending on the males in their lives. Another example of the division of labor would be Richard s secretary. Although her role is quite minor and it is never explicitly stated, it can assumed that she is not married through Richard s daydreams about her. She works in an office doing whatever Richard, her boss who s a male, tells her to do, even though he treats her poorly. • 40. Analysis Of The Poem Battle Royal The primary method for judging the worth of a piece of literature is its organic unity or the complex way all the elements of a test contribute to a story s meaning. The images, symbols, and metaphors in Ellison s Battle Royal give this story a whole new meaning. In 1947, when this short story was published, the black community was at an all time low. The main aspects of this piece have ambiguous meanings behind them. The grandfather s death scene, the naked dancer, the battle royal, the narrator s speech, and the narrator s dream all have significant symbolism. The grandfather s death had a major impact on the narrator s life. As the grandfather passed away he stated, Son, after I m gone I want you to keep up the good fight... Live with your head in the lion s mouth... Let em swoller you till they vomit or bust wide open (Ellison, 1495). These words seem to act as spiritual guidance for the narrator. Throughout the story the readers see the narrator refer back to these words. The grandfather dies with a legacy that haunts blacks regardless of social, political, and economic progress. The social, political, and economic system is seen when the naked blonde s erotic dance is described. Overall, this scene represents America s distorted value system. The symbolism made by flag tattoo on the dancer is actually a depiction of the relentless pursuit of money, sex, and power. The men, in the room where the dancing took place, were not considerate of the dancer s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This becomes more evident when Moses marries, Zipporah, a woman from the Midianites (Exodus 2:15 22). Together they have a son named Gershon, which is thought to translate to exile. Sigmund Freud argues that the Israelite genealogy of Moses roots was only created to mask the true Egyptian roots of Moses. The Promised Land was promised to the Israelites and the death of Moses at the hands of G d may be a way of sending a message to the people of Israel. By killing Moses, the leader of the people for the past 40 years, G d is communicating to the people that even someone with very little Egyptian heritage doesn t deserve to live in the Promised Land, no matter how important they ve been to the freedom of the Israelites. • 44. Summary Of The Virgin Of Guadalupe The Virgin of Guadalupe represented a melding of indigenous and Western cultures, a woman who was both a symbol of Catholicism, but appeared to an indigenous man and spoke in Nahuatl. The Virgin stemmed from syncretism of Catholicism with indigenous religions after Catholics realized that they needed to accept indigenous idols and beliefs if they wanted to spread their religion in Columbian era Mexico. However, over time, the Virgin of Guadalupe has come to represent not only religion but something inherently Mexican due her origins are non polarizing, her being associated with both indigenous and Western culture. Ideologically, she also came to represent the idea of purity when contrasted with La Malinche, who Mexicans view as a representation of betrayal. The Virgin s place in the virgin/whore dichotomy is what cements her place in history not only as a religious symbol but also as a symbol for all of Mexico, something which represents purity and one s pride in Mexico itself. Mexican Mosaic, quoting Carlos Fuentes, describes this ironic view of the Virgin s place in a country with the state sponsored religion as how one may no longer consider himself a Christian, but one cannot truly be considered a Mexican unless one believes in the Virgin of Guadalupe (Buchenau 23). The Virgin represents an inherent purity that all Mexicans strive to achieve. Although she is intrinsically Catholic, she appears to be associated more with the history and culture of Mexico itself. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Addiction As A Medical Disease Addiction, defined as a chronic medical disease, has led to great furor in the scientific community.[1] Some argue that because epidemiologic data shows that most addicts quit, possibly when faced with social and financial consequences, addiction is based on decisions and thus, should be treated as a choice. Those in favor of the disease model remark that because experiments have correlatively shown that drugs can change the brain structurally and functionally, one should treat addiction as a medical disease. One can expect from both perspectives, that the more important question is whether or not addiction has a biological aspect to it that can be causally linked to substance abuse behaviors. In this essay, we will review some of the compelling evidence on both sides of the argument and weigh their significance in order to come to a logical judgment. In Lopez Quintero et al., 2013, the purpose of their experiment was to 1) estimate the time to remission 2) estimate the probability of remission and 3) identify predictors of remission. They collected epidemiologic data for alcohol, cannabis, cocaine in adults aged 18 24 of the U.S population in 2001 2002 by an interview from the DSM IV Alcohol Use Disorder and Associated Disabilities Interview Schedule (AUDADIS).
