The Ex Basketball Player by John Updike Essay
The Ex Basketball Player by John Updike
A Loss of Motivation
In English Seven we read a poem called the Ex Basketball Player by
John Updike. The main character s name was Flick Webb. The poem explains how Flick lost
motivation. In high school Flick was an excellent basketball player, if not, the best. After high
school Flick didn t continue his basketball skills, and he never had tried as hard on his academics
as he did on basketball. Flick now works at Berth s
Garage and has a dead end life. I think that Flick gave up because he didn t want to work at
something that didn t come easily, such as academics. I enjoyed this poem because it makes you
think, I will now tell of a time when I lost motivation.

LOSING MOTIVATION
Two weeks ago our seventh grade English teacher gave out class a poem to read called Ex
Basketball Player by John Updike. The poem was about a young man named Flick Webb who
played basketball in high school and was very good. After Flick finished high school, he lost
motivation and quit playing. Instead of using his talents to get a good career he ended up
working at Berth s Garage. I think Flick quit playing because he did poorly in school sense he
spend most of his time p laying basketball. At this point I would like to share my story of how I
lost motivation and quit what I learned from my experience.
I was in the third grade and my friends convinced me to join Girl
Scouts. I thought it was fun for a while, but then it got boring and I lost motivation. In a couple
of months I started to dread going to the meetings so I talked with my mom about it. I told her I
didn t think it was fun anymore because I lost interest in the things we talked about and did.
There were some good things about it, like spending time with my friends and learning things
about myself. However, I figured I could do those things at school. My mom had told me I could
quit if I wanted to, so I did.
At first I thought it was good that I quit, and I was happy. Later though I

1. How does strategic planning influence day to day business operations? Why is it important for
systems analysts to understand a company s strategic plan?
Answer: A strategic plan looks beyond day to day activities and focuses on a horizon that is three,
five, ten, or more years in the future. Because the firm s IT group will be expected to deliver IT
resources, IT managers must understand and participate in strategic planning. Strategic planning
starts with a mission statement that reflects the firm s vision, purpose, and values. Mission
statements usually focus on longterm challenges and goals, the importance of the firm s
stakeholders, and a commitment to the firm s role as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Technical feasibility: Technical feasibility refers to the technical resources needed to develop,
purchase, install, or operate the system.
Economic feasibility: Economic feasibility means that the projected benefits of the proposed
system outweigh the estimated costs usually considered the total cost of ownership as well as the
acquisition costs.
Schedule feasibility: Schedule feasibility means that a project can be implemented in an acceptable
time frame. When accessing the schedule feasibility the analyst must consider the interaction
between the stakeholders, time and costs.
Economic feasibility is the measure of the cost effectiveness of an information system solution.
Also it includes the cost estimate for the project development team will be built into a project
management plan. Which means the economic feasibility focuses on total cost of ownership.

Guided Perception. An example of the element used in the short film is when the magician moves
his hand before he does a hat trick. In the short film, the swoosh sound his hand makes assumes that
it is the actual sound. Another element that you can hear during the short filmis Mickey Mousing.
There are many examples of Mickey Mousing throughout the short film but an example of it being

The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber Short Story
The Dying Flames of Happiness
Steel and flint continue to strike against each other, over and over. As each strike becomes
harder, the showers of sparks grow larger. Each one tries to find a foothold in the tinder to create
the blessed warmth of fire to drive away the bitter cold. Far of, a wildfire blazes, a glimpse of
what might be. After what seems like an eternity passes, the flint and steel are finally able to
admire the blazing warmth of their handiwork. It is not to last, as soon the wind that fuels the
forest s blaze kills the fire, and the creators along with it. As the fire dies, thus does the happiness
brought of by years of hard work with it. So is the fate of those unlucky enough to be protagonists
in Ernest Hemingway s short stories The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber and the
Interchapters. Their happiness is only achieved through their hard work in overcoming fear,
frustration, and lavish lifestyles, but are only experience that happiness for a short time.
To start, The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber is short indeed as the time the title character
spends striking against his fears only amounts to about an hour of happiness. Laying in bed after
a long day, Macomber reflects on revealing his cowardice everyone. His fear not only of the
hunt, but also of embarrassing himself weighs like bricks down on him as he thinks, The fear was
still there like a cold slimy hollow in all the emptiness where once his confidence had been made
him feel sick

Workout Analysis
Practice the next few days were rough. I wanted to work extra hard so I wouldn t be
disappointed in my next performance. As a team, we worked out Monday and Tuesday and the
rest of the week all we did was stretch and warm up in preparation for the meet over the weekend. I
did a lot of extra lifting after practice and a lot of work to get more flexible in hopes that will
make me faster. My coach once told me before that being flexible increases your speed and
makes you more mobile. I would do these drills that you would hop over a hurdle and then go
under them stretching your hip flexor muscle. After these drills, I would use resistive bands to
stretch the muscles in my legs and in my hip. I would hope after all this extra work I would see a
big difference.
On Monday, we did a workout to increase our endurance. It was 3 by 400 meters at 60 pace with a
4 minute rest in between each one. This workout was hard because I didn t realize how difficult
running a full lap on the track was. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

healthy to begin with. It will only be good for me. I made my mom make me grilled chicken

chicken with either salad, broccoli, sweet potatoes, or brussel sprouts. None of this stuff tasted
bad either so I didn t mind eating it a majority of the nights for dinner. I drank so much water
during the stage of my life too. I would have to use the bathroom so many times a day. Even in
class, every few minutes I would have to leave to use the bathroom. Some of my teachers would
yell at me for leaving the class room too much and even my dean yelled at me for carrying a gallon
of water with me throughout the halls. I would usually drink a gallon of water a day. I heard it was

Hugo Film Techniques
Hi everyone this week The Australian Film Institute has asked me look at the special effects in
Hugo. Chroma key, models, CGI and stunts all come under Special effects, which are illusions to
the eye seen on screen. But today I ll just be discussing the sub elements of Chroma key and
models. Also, how they add to the overall entertainment value and their impact on the audience.
[Hugo 21 in background fades in] Chroma keyis created by green or blue screens where images are
inserted into the area where the green or blue screens are. Because green and blue are colours
very different to human skin they are used to layer images over without covering people and props.
This technique makes it easier and less expensive to filmrather than to create... Show more content

He s not actually hanging from a high point above the streets of Paris. Chroma key builds
suspense and the viewers are afraid and led to believe that Hugo could really fall off. These
emotions that the viewers have because of the imagery created by Chroma key. [Hugo 3 in
background fades in] Another sub element of special effects are Models, mini scenes made and
filmed so that they look big and real in the film. Models are made so that real size sets, that are
expensive, don t have to be created. These scenes build suspense and are exciting as the audience
is in awe at how this set could have been created. In Hugo this can be seen in Hugo s dream
where the train crashes through and out of the train station. The train crash scene isn t actually
real size but is well made so that it looks realistic when on screen. This is because the creators of
the train crash model went to great detail, such as how the glass shatters and explodes on the
model, to make this more visually effective. It also seems more realistic because scenes before
show real people at the station and this mix of reality and the model makes it seem more

The Current Academic Thinking On Cross Layer Design...
This capstone project investigates the current academic thinking on cross layer design
approaches used to improve the quality of video steaming in wireless networks. Various kinds of
wireless networks emerged due to innovations in technologies and wireless devices. Such
networks are expected to render video applications as well. This ability of mobile devices caused
research interest in video streaming applications in wireless networks. In this context, the existing
cross layer designs are studied and research gaps are identified. Then a new CLD is designed and
implemented. Two layers are considered such as physical and MAC layers in order to jointly
optimize performncae of network for rendering video streaming applications. The... Show more

Many networks are infrastructure less networks where the nodes can configure dynamically to
form a useful network. There are many challenges in wireless networks as explored in [1]. The
challenges are as follows. Wireless channel conditions are unpredictable and unreliable. As
wireless medium is shared, it may result in contention. There might be issues with hidden
terminal problem. Route maintenance and node mobility may cause issues. Energy constrained
nature of the wireless networks. Having no centralized control on the networks Due to the
innovations in wireless technologies and recent developments in electronic circuits, there is
ever increasing trend in the usage of mobile devices that are part of wireless networks. People of
all lifestyles are using different kinds of mobile devices. In this context, there has been increased
research in the multimedia applications that run over wireless networks. As the multimedia
applications are resource intensive, they are to be used with certain optimizations. The wireless
networks are not optimized for such applications. The OSI model was also not designed by
keeping multimedia applications in mind. Therefore, individual layers of OSI model can be
optimized or jointly they can be optimized. The joint optimization is known as cross layer design
(CLD) approach. The cross layer design approach considers two or more layers to be improved for
different parameters. Each layer needs inputs from the application

The management process responsible for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer

When marketing a product or service the organisation needs to make sure it will satisfy the customer

meet the customer s physical, intellectual, educational or social needs/wants. An organisation will

segment at the right time.

Private organisations use marketing to help them achieve their goals and aims. They use
different marketing strategies to attract people to what they are providing. Big companies like
Asda and Nike can advertise regularly of television to get the maximum amount of people to
view their offers, smaller companies find it hard to raise the funds for their advertisements to
appear on television. Promotional deals can increase a business s sales and turnover. If a
product isn t selling at its current price, it might be put on sale under a promotional offer (i.e.
buy one get 1 free). This is a good way to clear the remaining stock and people whom might not
normally buy the product may try it because of the promotional offer which the possibility of
liking it and repeat purchasing. Another promotional deal they could use will involve working
with a newspaper. They could offer money off vouchers in a newspaper which could influence
more people to but the paper and to shop at their store. E.g. the Sun has advertised a free loaf of
bread for every user and in recent times, people are trying to spend as little money as possible.
Most private organisations have the main aim of earning profit and they wish to extend that profit
as much as they can, business do this though

Nuclear Fission Impact
The Impact of Nuclear Fission and Reactors on the Environment
Overview
Nuclear fission is a reaction in which heavy nuclei, such as Uranium and Plutonium, are broken into
smaller nuclei releasing heat, which is transformed into another form of energy such as, mechanical
or electrical. For a long time people have been using nuclear fission as an efficient and sustainable
source of energy. However, the use of this form of energy is associated with a unique set of
consequences including environmental, social and ethical. In this paper I will discuss nuclear
energy and its impact on the environment.
History of Nuclear Fission (Reactors)
The discovery of nuclear energy goes back to 1980, when Henri Becquerel was investigating

There are tow types of waste produced from nuclear fission: high level waste and low level waste.
High level waste consists of used uranium rods that can no longer be used for energy or produced
into other elements. The majority of low level waste consists of water and used equipment from
the nuclear reactors. Both types of waste are highly toxic and it was estimated that about
200,000 cubic meters of low level waste and about 10,000 cubic meters of high level waste are
produced world wide each year. These wastes are usually encapsulated in multi layer containers
that are buried in deep geological areas (Figure 5). According to the European Union (EU)
calculation, the disposal of low level waste costs about $2,200/ cubic meters and high level waste
costs over $100,000/ cubic meters annually (Storage and Disposal, 2015).
In addition to the cost, these wastes may affect future generation by escaping into the environment
due to natural phenomena such as earthquakes and tsunamis. Therefore the authorities should set
stringent rules and regulations regarding nuclear programs to improve nuclear safety and enhance
risk management (Xiang,

Analysis Of The Book A New Baby
On a brisk, fall day on Sunday October 25th, 1998 a new baby was born at 7:34 p.m. at Sioux
Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. That 20 inch, 7 pound, 9 ounce baby was Nicholas Jack Nagel.
There are two reasons for the name my parents gave me. My father Travis is a big golf fan and his
favorite golfer of all time is Jack Nicklaus; he is considered one of the greatest golfers of all time,
with 18 majors, the most ever by a professional golfer. My mother Marylou, on the other hand,
loves Christmas and liked the name Nicholas due to St. Nicholas. St. Nicholas is the patron saint
of children and sailors. The name Nicholas is a Greek name that means victorious people.
Shockingly, it took only a few hours of labor for my arrival. My mom was as calm as can be and
didn t realize that she was going into labor. While my mom was in labor, the rest of my family
watched the Denver Broncosdefeat the Jacksonville Jaguars. My parents joke with me that I ve
been a Broncos fan since I was even born, which is true. All of my grandparents, three aunts, and
three family friends were at the hospital to greet me. After I was delivered at approximately 7:34
p.m. my family passed around some It s a boy cigars. There were a lot of visitors that brought gifts
and outfits. My parents and I got to go home the night after I was born. Grandma and Grandpa
Nagel stayed for two days. My mom and dad were the first of their friends to have a baby and they

How Does Elie Wiesel Use Dramatic Irony In Night
The number of students in the Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools District could be multiplied by
five hundred to reach the number of Jewish deaths during the Holocaust. This number would
equal six million lives. Of these six million, one million were at the Auschwitz complex, where
the family of Elie Wiesel was killed. Known as the world s largest graveyard, Auschwitz was the
last place many Jewish people knew, including Elie s mother and sister, who were killed
immediately upon arrival. Elie was only 15 when he was taken from his home in Sighet, Hungary
to the concentration camp of Auschwitz Birkenau in 1944, but the persecution of the Jews began as
early as 1933. Many have speculated why the victims of the Holocaustdid not see their fate... Show

This situational irony is used to show how the blinding optimism and denial of the Jews
contradicts what will actually happen to them. One source of situational irony shows how the
expectations differed from reality when The families arrived in Auschwitz with their most
treasured possessions packed into suitcases. On the outside of each case, the unsuspecting
owners wrote their names and dates of birth, believing their things would be returned (Winfrey
Wiesel). The fact that the Jews are being forced into cars meant for animals and taken to what
would be most of their deaths is so different from what the Jewish people expected. The Jews
believe they are being taken to eastern Europe, and this journey is just a small relocation, so
they can live in safety until the war is over. They pack their finest possessions for their stay,
when their belongings would actually be taken from them as soon as they get to the camps. This
optimistic look on the deportation is responsible for the unpreparedness of the Jews. Their
expectations differ from their new reality, and they are unsure of what they can do to help
themselves once they get there. Situational irony is also shown in Night as the Jews attempt to
pack for the camp with food, and Elie describes, The women were cooking eggs, roasting meat,
baking cakes, and making knapsacks (Wiesel 25). The Jewish

Essay Bartolome De Las Casas
In A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies, BartolomГ© de Las Casas vividly describes
the brutality wrought on the natives in the Americas by the Europeans primarily for the purpose of
proclaiming and spreading the Christian faith. Las Casas originally intended this account to reach
the royal administration of Spain; however, it soon found its way into the hands of many
international readers, especially after translation. BartolomГ© de Las Casasillustrates an extremely
graphic and grim reality to his readers using literary methods such as characterization, imagery,
amplification, authorial intrusion and the invocation of providence while trying to appeal to the
sympathies of his audience about such atrocities.
Las Casas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also portrays the natives with lucid terms so as to shed an innocent light on them in an attempt
to instill into his readers why it is so wrong for the Indians to be treated as they are by the
Europeans.
Never quarrelsome or belligerent or boisterous, they harbour no grudges and do not seek to settle
old scores; indeed, the notions of revenge, rancour, and hatred are quite foreign to them. В… they
are also among the poorest people on earthВ… They are innocent and pure of mind and have a
lively intelligence, all of which makes them particularly receptive to learning and understanding the
truths of our Catholic faith. (Casas 10)
As stated in the excerpt, Las Casas uses characterization to describe the Natives. He even says,
These would be the most blessed people on earth if only they were given the chance to convert to
Christianity (Casas 11). His use of this literary method virtually guarantees that his readers will
become empathetic toward the natives and side with Las Casas in his endeavor to protect the
Indians. Essentially, to those uneducated in the goings on in the New World, Las Casas not only
educated them but struck a sympathetic nerve that helped to push Old World Europeans toward
minimizing the cruelty in the New World. Although Las

Literature And Old English Literature
Throughout history, English Literature has evolved in many ways. It has changed from Old
English to Middle English. One big change is how we shared and communicated stories. Quite a
few other things that changed are the attitudes of fighters, and who heroes fought against. The
treatment of women differed from seeing women as possessions to seeing them as people. The
role of religion changed to have less of an influence. Plagues led to the end of the feudal system,
and king s absolute power was taken away. The mass production of books came after the end of
the plague. People started keeping records of time. Climate change created many issues with crops.
All of these changes caused extraordinary effects on the transition from Old... Show more content

These aspects changed during the Middle English era. Fighters went from almost barbaric
attitudes to being chivalrous. Fighters also no longer fought for personal fame, and instead
fought for god, the king, honor, and women. With this attitude we saw many more knights in the
society. Similarly who heroes fought was also greatly changed from Old English to Middle
English. In Old English heroes would go into battles against monsters twice their size. Heroes
also fought against gods and other supernatural forces. They were seen as everyday people who
could take down and defeat these forces no man should be able to. The hero s tales soon changed
from these outrageous stories of fighting monsters to Arthurian legends. In the Arthurian legends,
heroes were the kings and knights who fought to protect their kingdom. Earthy stories were told
of the middle class to make them seem dirty and undesirable. Equally important is how in Old
English women were seen as objects to fulfill men s desires. Women were a Source of unpaid
labor, and offerings. The consideration of women as equals was not common. When making
treaties men of power would use attractive women as a pawn to ensure the favored outcome.
Duchess Eleanor of Aquitaine was one of the first to bring the unjust treatment of women to light.
She provided a strong figure for women to aspire to be. Eleanor s daughter, Marie of France,

and written communication, although both communication methods were used I had to ensure that
they were used in the correct quantities. To keep my presentation engaging I tried to use as much
visual representation as possible limiting the amount of text per slide. I chose to use PowerPoint
because of its combination of written and verbal communication (not to mention the cost
effectiveness of choosing PowerPoint and simplistic interface); the written aspects included the text
on the slides, screenshots and images. The screenshots proved particularly useful as they was of the
actual database used in the daily running of the Apprenticeships Store, once paired with the
demonstration of inputting data into the database it ensured greater understanding due to more
practical learning as opposed to theoretical learning. More detail was provided in my handouts
ensuring I didn t give too much information at once and this allowed the audience to document any
supplementary information I said during the presentation, by speaking and interpreting what was on

Application Of Electronic Medical Records
City Hospital, a 200 bed inner city hospital that has a 30 member primary care physician group
that has one hospital based clinic and 4 clinics dispersed throughout the local community. The
purpose of electronic medical records is to improve the efficiency of health care delivery by
sharing information of a patient s history, treatment and outcomes. With this product we will save
time, increase reimbursement, decrease physicians, nurses and other staff members wait time and
increase better clinical outcomes. EMR generates data that can drive care quality, patient safety
and effective financial management. The Center for Medical Services known as CMS has
mandated that all facilities will have electronic records for all facilities by October 2019. CMS
started making the mandate for people to use electronic medical records for submission for
payment for Medicare and Medicaid (Entrikin, Tom. 2012).

The Influence Of Hadrian s Unjust Society
Have you ever envisioned something powerful, but to become magnificent there needed to be a
change from within? Hadrian looked at Rome this same way. Being born into a world of hatred
and power crazed rulers, Hadrian became a light to the people around him; he broke through the
norm and change things for Rome. After many years of struggles and unjust actions that resulted in
the division in society, Rome was in need of a level headed ruler with a solid military and
educated background. Hadrian s devotion for the people and orderliness of the Roman Empirewas
the main drive towards his ambitions and changes. Hadrian s military and educated background
encouraged him to establish peace and safety throughout his time as emperor, and in turn creating...

(McKay, Hill, Buckler, Crowston, Weisner Hanks, Perry, (2014, p.167), Hadrian had an
impressive way of learning about the issues of the land and the people, never being the typical
emperor whom sat back and made commands. He was a hands on emperor whom traveled many
years traveling and learning about the land and the welfare of the people (Lannom, 1999). With
hands on interaction between the people of Rome and the issues they experienced, Hadrian was
able to learn firsthand and knew beyond a doubt what needed changes the most. Rome was an
unjust society for many decades, however Hadrian saw things differently. Hadrian had a
credible military background before assuming the empire seat; this is what gave him the
knowledge towards necessary army and military changes. One way of putting things in
perspective and evolving orderliness with in the empire was to make the people feel safe and
secure; this resulted in building a wall between boarders, Hadrian s Wall (McKay, et al., 2014,
p.167). Hadrian narrowed the military s job down from a conquering empire to a defending
empire, he was a devout dedicated military man himself and expect no less from his military.
Security began with the military changes and peace, Hadrian felt,

The Events And Connecting Dots Intrigues
If current events and connecting dots intrigues you, you may enjoy the read. For others, the last

Last weekend, the phone rang. The east coast number surprised me. It was from a long lost friend.
With a smile on my face, I picked up. As we finished catching up, I asked him what urged him to
call. He was candid, I am stranded at home, the historic snow storm and intermittent Internet made
me contemplative, I picked up the phone to catch up. I chuckled. First time, extreme weather
played good sport in reconnecting friends.
My last memory of weather and a chuckle was when I first moved to Houston. My grandfather,
living in his familiar environs in a village in South India, wanted to know about Houston weather. I
thought for a moment and told him, Air conditioned Chennai. Chennai, like Houston, is a coastal
city.
My grand father chuckled he could imagine the mix of heat, humidity and full fledged air
conditioner blasting cool air practically everywhere you move.
And those air conditioners were in full throttle on a hot Texas day in August 2011. What was
unusual about that day, there was no cloud cover across the state. The power plants were cranking
up at their full capacity, the heat was blistering and supply was tight. Surge pricing, made famous by
Uber, was in effect for electricity. It had a less fancy name, super peak pricing. The nuanced
difference from Uber, there was a price cap like Lyft. The major difference,

The Challenges Of Poverty In Education
Poverty is an increasing problem in the world that greatly impacts our most vulnerable population.
Children who are born into poverty are automatically placed at a disadvantage going into school.
Before they are even in the school system they are achieving less than their richer counterparts
(Morrissey, Hutchison, Winsler, 2014). The academic achievement gap between students of low
income and higher income is staggering, by implementing solutions that address the needs of
transportation and meals as well as offering therapy programs and investing time into building
strong relationships with students, educators can attempt to bridge the gap. Children coming from
low income families are greatly affected by the financial strain within their household. Their
parents are often working odd hours, shift work and or multiple jobs leaving these children to take
care of themselves. This not only affects the cognitive development, but also may cause tardiness
and absences if the children are responsible to get themselves ready and to school. Parents may also
find it difficult to manage the pick up and drop off times in combination of their work schedules.
When students do not attend school or arrive late they miss out on crucial instructional time from
their teachers, as well as social interactions with peers (Morrissey, Hutchison, Winsler, 2014). In
order to minimize tardiness and absences, and their effects, there a few things administrators and
teachers can implement into

starves Kate and deprives her of any sleep, finally he humiliates her. Kate is forced under

I Am A Proud Aunt Of A 2-Year Old Beautiful Baby Girl.Her
I am a proud aunt of a 2 year old beautiful baby girl. Her name is Julianna Rasberry. Right now,
she currently attends A Mother s Heart Daycare facility. Last week, Julianna had a pretty tough
week. On Monday, she came home with scratches all over her face. Her teacher explained to me
that one incident occurred in the playroom area earlier that morning, after Julianna had been
dropped off. All of the kids gathered in the big playroom that morning, when their parents dropped
them off. So, her teacher was not able to explain one of the scratches on her face. The other two
scratches occurred in the classroom that day. The teacher stated that Julianna had hit one of her

These elements are being able to listen to the opinions of others, even when their opinions differ
from her s and having a sense of self respect. The first strategy that I would recommend would be
to incorporate Julianna within the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) meetings. I know that
it would be a challenge for a 2 year old to sit through the whole entire meeting, so I would have
her present for the first five minutes, at the beginning of the meeting and then would have her
sent back to play with her classmates. This would help to make her aware of the fact that her
teacher and I do communicate regarding her academic and behavioral performance. It may also
make her aware of the fact that her behavior is being recorded/kept track of and will not be
tolerated. This strategy will allow her to work on listening to other people s opinions and self
respect. Another strategy that could be used is for her teacher to make note of her behavior on her
daily classroom report form that is sent home with her each day. This can be reviewed by Julianna
s parents and with Julianna at home, so that she knows that her parents know what is going on at
school. Time out is another strategy that should be incorporated within the classroom setting. This
will not only help to immediately address the inappropriate behavior, but it will also help Julianna
to work on her listening skills and allow her time to think about what she

Preventing Workplace Shootings
As stated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics there were 375 workers killed in shootings while on
the job in 2012 alone. Robbers made up 33 percent of the workplace homicides that involved
shootings in 2012, the coworkers made up 13 percent of that ( Workplace Homicides, 2013).
Another statistic to mention is that there were 140 government officials that were shot and
killed by coworkers on the job from 1992 until 2012. So obviously over the years this number
continues to grow and with time comes a lot of press and news releases to go with these murders.
There are a couple that will be mentioned because of how popular and violent they are and also
how these could have been prevented if someone had of intervened before it ever happened. In 1986

Grounded Theory And The Constructivist Theory

be anchored in the constructivist epistemology. Grounded theory, an inductive qualitative research
method, was chosen for this study because, while many ideas may exist concerning how poor,
working class clients experiences of counseling may affect their perspectives of and style of
participation in individual counseling, specific factors have not been identified from existing
research. Hence it seems most effective to allow the data to reveal the factors that affect working

This process of constructing knowledge is not typically done individually; instead, human beings
are born into a culture of meaning and work with other humans to construct knowledge together
(Crotty, 1998). Consequently, the constructivist grounded theory researcher intends to fully
describe and understand the individual participant s knowledge and understanding of the studied
object or phenomenon (Charmaz, 2014). Researcher s Positioning This subjectivity statement is
presented to acknowledge the researcher s related perspectives and experiences. This statement is
intended to allow the reader to further consider the credibility of the study, while situating the
researcher and the study in a particular context. In the tradition of constructivist grounded theory,
the researcher s perspectives and experiences as relating to the topic under study are an important,
inextricable aspect of the research process (Charmaz, 2014). The purpose of this study is to
explore, by means of a series of personal interviews, how poor and working class clients describe

Humanitarian Intervention In The Rwanda Genocide
In addition to the moral reasons for humanitarian intervention, the increasingly globalized nature of
the world means that there are many practical benefits to reinforcing a country s responsibility to
protect it s people. In this day and age, isolationism is no longer a valid foreign policy strategy as
the actions of one country are inexorably linked to those surrounding it. From a revolution in
communications to increasingly efficient and affordable methods of high speed transport
technology, people are able to connect with others from all points on the planet. The proliferation of

Discrimination Against Catholics
Discrimination is defined as negative attitudes or behavior between people with differences.
Frequently, opponents label each other with spiteful words. However religious discrimination can
lead to violence. Many times religious discrimination can cause judgment during employment,
limited educational opportunities, and restrictive social interaction. Throughout the centuries,
Judaism, Catholicism, and Islamhave been negatively persecuted by numerous communities.
Religious discrimination has impeded the right and ability of Jews, Catholics , and Muslims to

If a Jew practiced freely during turbulent times such as The Holocaust and the Russian pogrom,
then he would most likely be killed or severely injured. The people of the world have been blind
and judgmental many times. A different culture and different beliefs caused Judaism and the other
ways of life to butt heads. This caused freedom of religion to be removed from the lives of the
Jewish people experiencing these tragic trials.
Discrimination against Catholicism restricts Catholics ability to practice freedom of religion.
Discrimination against Catholics began from the creation of this religion; however, one of the
most prominent times that it occurred was during presidential elections in America. It arose when
Al Smith, a Catholic ran for president. His career started in New York as a governor, and soon
after ... he had become one of the most powerful and popular...politicians of that time. Nevertheless
along with popularity came disapproval. In 1924, he was denied the presidential nomination
because the Ku Klux Klan objected to his religious beliefs. Shortly after, he was the unanimous
choice for the 1928 election over Herbert Hoover, but the religious issue continually haunted Smith
throughout the campaign (Dolan 1). During the campaign, the KKK burned crosses wherever he
traveled, and many groups portrayed Smith as a drunkard, making up slogans such as A vote for

Exploring Biographical Knowledge Into The Daily Routine...
The focus of this study was to explore how incorporating biographical knowledge into the daily
routine and care of an individual with dementia can bring about changes in their behaviors that
impact quality of care and quality of life. This chapter assembles the major findings of the study,
considers the unique contribution to the research and practice of the care of peoplewith dementia in
a long term care setting. The implications for further research discussed as well as limitations of the
study considered.
Discussion
The study makes a unique contribution to the existing literature on biographical approaches in
dementia care. The findings suggest a positive effect of this approach for people with dementia in
long term care setting. Similar to Life Story Work, Reminiscence Therapy and Meaningful activities
this study indicates a number of benefits.
First, it promotes increased understanding of the person. It enables nursing home staff to see a
person in the context of his whole life. This in turn leads into deeper relationships. The voice of
the resident with dementia can be heard when he or she is seen as a person and not just as a
patient. The uniqueness of person s needs and values can only be understood and adequately
addressed by knowing his or hers life story. As in case of Rosemary, by learning about her life
experiences the staff were able to see not a mean and loud woman but somebody who expresses her
fear of water getting into her ears, or attachment to

transition into adulthood and realize that there is not as much good in the world as there first
appeared to be. The second phase is the aftermath, where people either learn to cope with the
cruelties of life or simply fail. Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures, by Vincent Lam, follows a
group of medical students as they train to become doctors and how they learn to deal with
different social pressures that accompanies the profession. At the beginnings of the characters

The Controversy Behind Shakespeare s Work
Shakespeare or Bacon For many centuries, there has been a controversy over whether or not
Shakespeare wrote his plays himself or whether another author wrote the works and gave him
the credit. Shakespeare (1564 1616) is recorded to have written 37 plays and 154 sonnets, but
the authorship of Shakespeare s work has been disputed. There is valid reason to believe that
Francis Bacon is the genuine author behind Shakespeare s name. Bacon s similar high status,
numerous travels, and the Baconian theory are valuable reasons that give evidence to Bacon
possibly being the author. Francis Bacon lived a short extraordinary life from places he was able
to travel to, to the things he wrote, and to people he experienced along the way. Bacon was a
highly intelligent child, not only was he homeschool throughout his early years, he then enrolled
in the Cambridge s Trinity College at age 12. This schools constricted curriculum started to bore

being a minority in A country has set backs. Being a minority comes with stereotypes and prejudice;
although the majority faces prejudice too, it may not be as prevalent as prejudice towards the
minority. Equality in America is on the rise, but most minorities face problems that they faced years

prejudice and discrimination, they are not the only minority group to experience these issues. The
Latino population in the United States of America continues to rise at a steady rate, but the
minority faces extreme discrimination, for example, there are many subcultures within the Latino
culture, but one may call all Latinos in America Mexicans. The United States government even
created the term Hispanic to provide a name for a diverse population from the Spanish speaking

Bureau of Census does not recognize it as a race (Carteret). Latino is how Americans from Mexico,

largest population of Latinos in America is the Mexican population (64.9%), there are about nine
other cultures that have a distinct population in America (Motel and Patten). Puerto Ricans and

of these countries speak Spanish, each one has its own vocabulary and accents. Puerto Ricans pride

The violin led me to facing my fears and getting up in front of people and playing songs. Not only

Middle School came around pretty quick and I thought that I would try job shadowing. I went to
Pet Plex which is up by Buckeye Lake and that s when I knew that I wanted to be a veterinarian.
I watched three surgeries while I was there one on a dog, a cat, and a piglet. From the time I was
little I knew I wanted to work with animals but I knew for sure exactly what I wanted to be. It
was a big turning point in my life and now it s my dream job. In seventh grade I found out I had
to get my tonsils taken out because they were naturally way to big and were causing me to gag.
It was an important part of my life because I never experienced surgery before and I never want
to again. I had a bad experience with it because I ended up coming home and puking my guts out
three times. We found out after the surgery that my adenoids had also been taken out. The doctor
had said, I wasn t going to take them out until I saw how big they were. We don t know how you
were even breathing out of your nose because your adenoids were blocking your nose one hundred

Weight Watchers Advertisement Analysis
The advertisement that I chose is very popular among celebrities is called Weight Watchers. A
large percentage of celebrities such as Jennifer Hudson and Jessica Simpson have lost tremendous
amount a weight from using this program. The program allows individuals to eat anything on
their menu in smaller portions including alcohol. The commercials of Jennifer Hudson and
Jessica Simpson made me feel somewhat discouraged about my weight because everyone s
metabolism is different. The program is selling that you can lose weight by buying their low fat
meals. It doesn t too much explain that you have to do more to lose weight such as exercise at
least thirty to forty five minutes daily. Body image is so important to Americans because everyone

Oh, Play that Thing and The Dead Republic by Roddy Doyle
In Roddy Doyle s series Oh, Play That Thing and The Dead Republic the world is shown to the
readers through the eyes of a wise fool, Henry Smart. The series includes a wide variety of
magical realism, and how Henry continues to fight social norms to get what he wants. The idea of
society vs. man and individualism takes a toll on Henry s pride by forcing him to jump from job to
job or from flat to flat that ultimately puts him in disarray. Each book s analysis should be in its
own category, but they have many identical ideas, themes, and characters that bring them together.
The elements of magical realism in a historical series, at first sight seem quite suitable. It is
generally agreed that the picaresque, with its humorous ideas on the social outcasts trying to endure
an aggressive environment, is a sensible move against the romanticize tendency of the plot. Magic
realism, with its limited interruption of mimetic rules, lends itself to a number of uses,
postcolonial being one of them. It introduces elements of grotesque moments that allow the
readers to sense the satirical potentials and it brings in metaphorical aspects to the plate. The
aspects of magical realism seem to play with the readers mind. The convention of picaresque
combined with magical realism builds a wider grotesque vision for the reader. It is not only the
space but also the characters, the main protagonist among them are shaped according to the
defamilliarising rules of this magical picaresque world.

The Greatest Physical Of Sports
People love to watch, play, and enjoy sports or cheering for teams. In the majority of sports that
are physical and require a lot of contact that could potentially cause injuries. The most physical of
sports such as hockey, soccer, football, and boxing can make the people who care about them
worried for their health. Some people don t understand that the helmet the playerswear don t always
prevent the athletes from getting concussions or the fracture of your skull. You can get a concussion
by having your brain constantly hit your skull. The NFL should take more necessary precautions
every time a playersuffers from damage. There is are diseases called CTE which means chronic
traumatic encephalopathy players get playing that turn into medical bills need to be paid for by the
NFL because players often are pressured to ignore the symptoms of a concussion and go back out
to play. Players should be aware of the consequences and risk that can occur when they make these
decisions. I believe that they should study about what can actually happen to their health so that
they can prevent getting concussions and acknowledge the negative effects.
These days most athletes worry about how big their pay checks going to be than actually caring
what s on the scoreboard. A good of players know that if they aren t actually playing the game then
they are not getting paid. If they always keep this concept in their heads than most players will
most likely not tell the coach that they may being

Non Satis Scire Research Paper
Non Satis Scire: To Know Is Not Enough
Elementary schools no longer require students to memorize multiplication tables. Learning how to
perform complex calculations using long division is passГ©. Many schools no longer teach
children cursive writing, and none teach, much less emphasize, the importance of good
penmanship. The advent of the age of technology is the cause...but is it to blame? Many people
might believe that by excluding some of the things that educators thought were important skills
fifty years ago, makes today s young adults ill educated. However, elementary students of the 1950

The amount of information that needed to be absorbed and applied in order to earn a doctorate in
1850 is nowhere near the volumes of information required to earn that same degree today.
Immediate access to information has started the idea of just in time learning (Collins and Halverson
14). This means that when one needs immediate information to accomplish a complex task, one can
receive the needed data at just the right time. Enthusiasts argue for just in time learning as the
counter to the school strategy of trying to teach everything one might need to know someday.
Many Americans spend 15 20 years in school learning things that they may or may not use later in
life. (Collins and Halverson 14) Not many Americans have ever required the date that Columbus
discovered America to enhance their lives. Since that kind of information is now available at the
touch of a button, why do educators still require children to memorize extraneous material? It
would be much more logical and efficient to teach children how to obtain that data, leaving more

Examples Of Rebirth In The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
The Rebirth of a New Man:
A Journey of Hope among the Contradictions Inherent in Human Nature.
A man and a child, father and son, are alone against an inclement nature while pushing a cart filled
with tools, blankets, and things that they have found along the way to the south. About ten years
before the world had been reduced to ashes by an apocalyptic disaster, which it is not known
whether it was caused by a natural event or the foolishness of human beings. The world is reduced
to a single color, gray, that of the ashes covering all that is left, that of hearts and minds, clouded
by the pain of the loss and the terror of solitude. All that is left of the humankind is a few tenacious
survivors struggling unceasingly against hunger and cold, and those who have lost any trace of
humanity giving free vent to the lowest instincts of oppression and violence. But in the novel The
Road, Cormac McCarthy paints a vivid and dramatic picture of the catastrophic consequences of a
cataclysm that are nothing more than an excuse to minimize the outer contingencies with the sole
purpose to bring up what is really dear to his heart, the relationship between a father and a son.
They have been deliberately left unnamed for the whole story to epitomize the archetypes of the
man and the child, a hymn to paternity, and to unconditional love. In a world reduced to the
essentials, McCarthy aims not merely to explore the complexities of the relationship between the
two, which in fact remains

The Strengths Of Culture In Dubai
ASSIGNMENT:
Question 1: What is your greatest strength culturally speaking? Explain.
I think the strength of Dubai s culture is the fact that even though it is home to a number of
immigrants and has the reputation of being one of the most attractive tourist spots; it has preserved
its culture. The Emirates operate according to the Muslim culture and centres on the family. Even
though it is known as the entertainment capital of Middle East, the local nationals keep themselves
from over indulging in the offered entertainment practices which has helped in preserving the
culture in spite of the large number of non immigrant population. Dubai has become a cosmopolitan
city with a maintained rich culture, tradition and customs. It is a stable and yet progressive society
and culture. Even tough Islam is the major religion of Dubai there is tolerance and respect for other
religions of the migrants which is another strength of the diverse population of Dubai. This culture
of absorbing the different cultures and understanding the differences is the true strength of culture
here in Dubai.
Question 2: What is your greatest weakness culturally speaking? Explain

help the Dubai economy. Even the migrant women accompanying their families have a very hard

Persuasive Essay On LGBT
Olabode Adimula
LLA 201
Essay Assignment #2 The LGBT community in the United States has always had massive
difficulty fitting into our society. For many years they put up with constant mistreatment and other
forms of abuse coming from the those who do not agree with their lifestyle. They have for long
advocated for the acceptance of their existence and punishment for crimes committed against them.
One of the hardest battles the community has had to face was the right to marry in a society that
still holds the values of a traditional relationship which is between a male and female. The struggle
was quite harsh but it all paid off by 2015 when the supreme court granted gay couples the right to
marry. This historical decision did not go without outcry and criticisms. Most of the dissatisfaction
came from those who hold very religious values and beliefs that claims homosexuality is a sin.
Religion has always been a part of the American way of life since the nation s founding and with
that homosexuality has been demonized throughout our society. Now that gay couple possess the
legal rights to have a marriage license, religious companies and/or stores are now denying service
to LGBT couples as they believe it sinful on their behalf to even take part. Many people gay or
straight who fought for gay rights believe these is pure discrimination and that stores should not
have the right to deny service for any customer for any reason. However, this belief is
unconstitutional and goes

What Does The White Camellias Symbolize In To Kill A...
Symbolism is used in the book To Kill A Mockingbird abundantly. There are many symbols in the
novel that cultivate the characters, setting, events and objects meaning. The white camellias is
one of the many symbols the novel has since it symbolizes forgiveness, bravery and a peace
offering.. First, the white camellia can symbolize forgiveness because although Mrs. Dubose had
been harsh and rude to Jem, Jem essentially delayed her death. This is done by Jem reading to
her every day except Sundays to help her cope with her morphine addiction, by distracting her.
Therefore, when Mrs. Dubose gave Jem a white camellia it was a message to Jem saying forgive
me. As a result, Jem being the mature child he understood this message as he is seen fingering

Back To Square One In The Great Gatsby
My body freezes up, my hands get clammy as I anticipate the roll of the dice. I needed at least a
six to advance to go without paying an income tax. I pull my hands to my face as I realize that I
rolled a five, one less than I needed to avoid paying a tax. In terms of Monopoly, square one is
where I started the game, which would be the square go. In a bigger scale, square one is much
more complex because life is made up of miniature moments that are influenced by different
conditions. For me, square one is where someone starts, but I see it as shaped by previous events.
Therefore it is impossible to get back to square one because past events will alter someone s square
one.

My View Of Economic Injustices
Andrea Jefferson: I chose to write this draft because after reviewing each core reading and
comparing its material, I realized my view of economic injustices was very clouded. I was so
captured by Nick Hanauer s TED conference I completely forgot about any other issues concerning
problems in our economy. My target audience I am trying to reach is the struggling middle class
Americans who may be confused about what is putting the middle classin an unfavorable position
economically. By writing this essay, I was hoping to sway the readers with facts and possibly open
their minds to interpret and analyze different perspectives when it comes to the issues our middle
class faces.
Additionally, my draft was losing focus half way through the ... Show more content on

Republicans praise the middle class but preach that giving the wealthy tax breaks will give us
all relief in return. Which leads us all to ask, what is the true cause of middle class suffering? In
this analysis, I have selected The Phantom Menace: What War on the Middle Class by Clive
Crook and A TED Talk on Income Inequality by Nick Hanauer for comparison. These readings
place focus on issues within the middle class in America. Hanauer appears to think that low
wages and unfair taxation are the main culprit of middle class struggle. However, Clive Crook
feels strongly that these economic inequities are so small compared to other growing problems
for the middle class. Nick Hanauer holds a valid point about income inequality being an
important issue, but I am not convinced it is the largest problem the middle class faces. Clive
Crook s article leads me to believe a stifling combination of broken social systems and having a
class based system in general are more troubling for Middle Class America than economic
inequality itself.
Nick Hanauer is a self proclaimed capitalist. In his live conference A TED Talk on Income
Inequality , he speaks to the audience about tax policy and wages. He believes large tax cuts on
the upper class and their majority hold of America s shared income are significantly hurting middle
class families. He feels that these issues are causing a decline in consumerism, leaving a poor
economy and capitalists

Quinto Case Summary
How does the AAER describe Quinto s failure to act with due professional care and failure to
maintain an attitude of appropriate professional skepticism. Sections 14 and 15 of the release
address this specifically. The evidence that Quinto was convinced by to arrive at an unqualified
opinion was far from sufficient, as there was a great amount of evidence that all was not right at
Soyo. Due professional care demanded that his team dig deeper and perform analytical procedures
to follow up on all the warning signs they came across during the audit. The Vasquez team also
failed to adequately document their work and their findings. Quinto, and Vasquez as an audit team,
did not follow up on the violations of the debt covenants, ignored the improper classification of

Quinto was denied the ability to practice as a public accountant for one year, and would have to
seek reinstatement before he was allowed to practice again. Do these sanctions seem appropriate?
These sanctions do seem appropriate. It is unclear from the details of the release what the
defendant s motives were in his negligence. If he was simply ignorant or lazy, then the sanction
seems fair, and hopefully served as future motivation for Federico to take his work seriously.
However, if the oversights and lack of documentation were done to cover up shoddy work in order
to receive some kind of remuneration from Soyo, then Quinto probably deserved more punishment
than he received. The accounting profession relies on public trust, as does the financial market as a
whole. Many people count on the work of auditors and accountants to guide investment decisions.
To undermine that trust with a malicious intent to make oneself richer should probably result in a
lifetime removal from the profession. Also, provide a summary of a more recent (occurring after
2012) enforcement release that includes the violation and the enforcement

How Did James Weldon Johnson Impact The Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance was a time period where African American influencers of the arts found
cultural identity in a white domain in the city of Harlem New York. The Harlem Renaissance is the
rebirth of African American culture in the United States. The rebirth of the African American
Culture was not limited to Harlem, because it also took root in other places, such as WashingtonDC,
Chicago, and Illinois. The positive culture of the Harlem Renaissance pointed out some of the
injustices African Americans were experiencing throughout the United States, and it was portrayed
in their literary arts. Original leaders in the Harlem Renaissance included James Weldon Johnson.
James Weldon Johnson was one of the first publishers of contemporary black poetry of the 20th
century. The name of the book he published titled The book of American Negro Poetry was a
reflection of the writings of African Americanpoets in the 1920s. James Weldon Johnson helped
revitalize African American culture through his literary works and poetry; the Harlem Renaissance
continues to influence the African American culture through the literary arts, poetry, and the
influence of the originators of the Harlem Renaissance. James Weldon Johnson impacted the
Harlem Renaissance through his literary works. One of these works is known today as The Black
National Anthem. (Johnson), created in the 1900 s. The Black National Anthem was written in
celebration of Abraham Lincoln s birthday, and it became originally titled as the Negro National
Anthem as stated by the National Association for the Advancements of Colored People(NAACP).
Since then it changed to The Black National Anthem. The words in the anthem symbolised the
racism African Americans encountered. The anthem was a way of showing patriotism and hope for
the future, sung today in churches, assemblies, and black events throughout the nation. One
empowering part in the anthem is We have come, treading our path through the blood of the
slaughtered, Out from the gloomy past, Till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our
bright star is cast. In reality, Johnson states that throughout history, African Americans have been
slaughtered, beaten, and tortured. African American s are a

Music Therapy And Its Effect On Children
Music plays an important role in everyone s life and, although the majority of people nowadays
have heard of music therapy, not many are exactly sure of what it is nor are they aware of its
beneficial effects (Peters 2). Children, in particular, have shown significant improvement in their
disabilities when subjected to musical therapy. Music therapist Ulla Holck s studies show that
music therapycan meet the basic needs of children with special needs, such as behavioral
problems, attention skills, social skills, emotional needs and intersubjective skills. In addition
cognitive skills can be strengthened if the basic needs are fulfilled (45). Music therapy is a
process in which music is utilized to meet or enhance the individual s mental and physical health.
The introduction of music therapy has always brought many benefits, no matter if in general
settings or in schools and families; it is documented to ameliorate the relationship between a child
and the family, as well as aid children with disabilities, such as autism, and special needs. Because
of the proven effectiveness of music therapy for children with disabilities and not, parents should
be encouraged to make music apart of their children s lives.
There is plenty of evidence that proves that music has been utilized in therapy and healing practices
since ancient times. Among the earliest people to practice music therapy before it even became a
profession were the shamans, who originated in the primitive civilizations

Relational Database Model And No Sql Database System
COMPARISON OF RELATIONAL DATABASE MODEL AND NO SQL DATABASE SYSTEM:
The Relational database and the No SQL database are both appropriate database methods
depending on the way they are being implemented and the purpose of the business for which they
are being incorporated. However, both the database approaches have distinct wide variety of
characteristics, based on which they can be compared and contrasted in the following way.
STRUCTURE OF DATA: The data structure of a relational databasecomprises of table structure.
Every table is identified by a unique name or label. The data tables are described as the
collection of rows and columns. Each row of the table is known as the record and each column is
known as the field of the specific data table. All the data sets are well organized and logical linked
to each other through definite and unique relationships. A table, therefore can also be defined as the
structured collection of relationships . The fundamental aim of developing No SQL database
systems is to easily and effectively handle vast quantity of data or information in advanced web
scale applications. In order to achieve this purpose, the No SQL systems are designed as the
schema free database systems. There are different modes to define the No SQL databases that
typically depend on the requirements of the data that has to be managed. The main No SQL data
structures include column database, key value store database, document store database, graph

  • 2. The Ex Basketball Player by John Updike Essay The Ex Basketball Player by John Updike A Loss of Motivation In English Seven we read a poem called the Ex Basketball Player by John Updike. The main character s name was Flick Webb. The poem explains how Flick lost motivation. In high school Flick was an excellent basketball player, if not, the best. After high school Flick didn t continue his basketball skills, and he never had tried as hard on his academics as he did on basketball. Flick now works at Berth s Garage and has a dead end life. I think that Flick gave up because he didn t want to work at something that didn t come easily, such as academics. I enjoyed this poem because it makes you think, I will now tell of a time when I lost motivation. In fourth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I am not as flexible as I once was. LOSING MOTIVATION Two weeks ago our seventh grade English teacher gave out class a poem to read called Ex Basketball Player by John Updike. The poem was about a young man named Flick Webb who played basketball in high school and was very good. After Flick finished high school, he lost motivation and quit playing. Instead of using his talents to get a good career he ended up working at Berth s Garage. I think Flick quit playing because he did poorly in school sense he spend most of his time p laying basketball. At this point I would like to share my story of how I lost motivation and quit what I learned from my experience. I was in the third grade and my friends convinced me to join Girl Scouts. I thought it was fun for a while, but then it got boring and I lost motivation. In a couple of months I started to dread going to the meetings so I talked with my mom about it. I told her I didn t think it was fun anymore because I lost interest in the things we talked about and did. There were some good things about it, like spending time with my friends and learning things about myself. However, I figured I could do those things at school. My mom had told me I could quit if I wanted to, so I did. At first I thought it was good that I quit, and I was happy. Later though I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why is it important for systems analysts to understand a company s strategic plan? Answer: A strategic plan looks beyond day to day activities and focuses on a horizon that is three, five, ten, or more years in the future. Because the firm s IT group will be expected to deliver IT resources, IT managers must understand and participate in strategic planning. Strategic planning starts with a mission statement that reflects the firm s vision, purpose, and values. • 6. The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber Short Story The Dying Flames of Happiness Steel and flint continue to strike against each other, over and over. As each strike becomes harder, the showers of sparks grow larger. Each one tries to find a foothold in the tinder to create the blessed warmth of fire to drive away the bitter cold. Far of, a wildfire blazes, a glimpse of what might be. After what seems like an eternity passes, the flint and steel are finally able to admire the blazing warmth of their handiwork. It is not to last, as soon the wind that fuels the forest s blaze kills the fire, and the creators along with it. As the fire dies, thus does the happiness brought of by years of hard work with it. So is the fate of those unlucky enough to be protagonists in Ernest Hemingway s short stories The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber and the Interchapters. Their happiness is only achieved through their hard work in overcoming fear, frustration, and lavish lifestyles, but are only experience that happiness for a short time. To start, The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber is short indeed as the time the title character spends striking against his fears only amounts to about an hour of happiness. Laying in bed after a long day, Macomber reflects on revealing his cowardice everyone. As a team, we worked out Monday and Tuesday and the rest of the week all we did was stretch and warm up in preparation for the meet over the weekend. I did a lot of extra lifting after practice and a lot of work to get more flexible in hopes that will make me faster. My coach once told me before that being flexible increases your speed and makes you more mobile. I would do these drills that you would hop over a hurdle and then go under them stretching your hip flexor muscle. After these drills, I would use resistive bands to stretch the muscles in my legs and in my hip. I would hope after all this extra work I would see a big difference. Also, how they add to the overall entertainment value and their impact on the audience. [Hugo 21 in background fades in] Chroma keyis created by green or blue screens where images are inserted into the area where the green or blue screens are. Models are made so that real size sets, that are expensive, don t have to be created. These scenes build suspense and are exciting as the audience is in awe at how this set could have been created. In Hugo this can be seen in Hugo s dream where the train crashes through and out of the train station. The train crash scene isn t actually real size but is well made so that it looks realistic when on screen. This is because the creators of the train crash model went to great detail, such as how the glass shatters and explodes on the model, to make this more visually effective. It also seems more realistic because scenes before show real people at the station and this mix of reality and the model makes it seem more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Energy constrained nature of the wireless networks. Having no centralized control on the networks Due to the innovations in wireless technologies and recent developments in electronic circuits, there is ever increasing trend in the usage of mobile devices that are part of wireless networks. People of all lifestyles are using different kinds of mobile devices. In this context, there has been increased research in the multimedia applications that run over wireless networks. As the multimedia applications are resource intensive, they are to be used with certain optimizations. The wireless networks are not optimized for such applications. The OSI model was also not designed by keeping multimedia applications in mind. Therefore, individual layers of OSI model can be optimized or jointly they can be optimized. The joint optimization is known as cross layer design (CLD) approach. The cross layer design approach considers two or more layers to be improved for different parameters. Nuclear Fission Impact The Impact of Nuclear Fission and Reactors on the Environment Overview Nuclear fission is a reaction in which heavy nuclei, such as Uranium and Plutonium, are broken into smaller nuclei releasing heat, which is transformed into another form of energy such as, mechanical or electrical. For a long time people have been using nuclear fission as an efficient and sustainable source of energy. However, the use of this form of energy is associated with a unique set of consequences including environmental, social and ethical. There are tow types of waste produced from nuclear fission: high level waste and low level waste. High level waste consists of used uranium rods that can no longer be used for energy or produced into other elements. The majority of low level waste consists of water and used equipment from the nuclear reactors. Both types of waste are highly toxic and it was estimated that about 200,000 cubic meters of low level waste and about 10,000 cubic meters of high level waste are produced world wide each year. These wastes are usually encapsulated in multi layer containers that are buried in deep geological areas (Figure 5). According to the European Union (EU) calculation, the disposal of low level waste costs about $2,200/ cubic meters and high level waste costs over $100,000/ cubic meters annually (Storage and Disposal, 2015). In addition to the cost, these wastes may affect future generation by escaping into the environment due to natural phenomena such as earthquakes and tsunamis. How Does Elie Wiesel Use Dramatic Irony In Night The number of students in the Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools District could be multiplied by five hundred to reach the number of Jewish deaths during the Holocaust. This number would equal six million lives. Of these six million, one million were at the Auschwitz complex, where the family of Elie Wiesel was killed. Known as the world s largest graveyard, Auschwitz was the last place many Jewish people knew, including Elie s mother and sister, who were killed immediately upon arrival. Elie was only 15 when he was taken from his home in Sighet, Hungary to the concentration camp of Auschwitz Birkenau in 1944, but the persecution of the Jews began as early as 1933. Many have speculated why the victims of the Holocaustdid not see their fate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This situational irony is used to show how the blinding optimism and denial of the Jews contradicts what will actually happen to them. One source of situational irony shows how the expectations differed from reality when The families arrived in Auschwitz with their most treasured possessions packed into suitcases. On the outside of each case, the unsuspecting owners wrote their names and dates of birth, believing their things would be returned (Winfrey Wiesel). The fact that the Jews are being forced into cars meant for animals and taken to what would be most of their deaths is so different from what the Jewish people expected. The Jews believe they are being taken to eastern Europe, and this journey is just a small relocation, so they can live in safety until the war is over. They pack their finest possessions for their stay, when their belongings would actually be taken from them as soon as they get to the camps. This optimistic look on the deportation is responsible for the unpreparedness of the Jews. Their expectations differ from their new reality, and they are unsure of what they can do to help themselves once they get there. Situational irony is also shown in Night as the Jews attempt to pack for the camp with food, and Elie describes, The women were cooking eggs, roasting meat, baking cakes, and making knapsacks (Wiesel 25). Essay Bartolome De Las Casas In A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies, BartolomГ© de Las Casas vividly describes the brutality wrought on the natives in the Americas by the Europeans primarily for the purpose of proclaiming and spreading the Christian faith. Las Casas originally intended this account to reach the royal administration of Spain; however, it soon found its way into the hands of many international readers, especially after translation. • 16. Literature And Old English Literature Throughout history, English Literature has evolved in many ways. It has changed from Old English to Middle English. One big change is how we shared and communicated stories. Quite a few other things that changed are the attitudes of fighters, and who heroes fought against. The treatment of women differed from seeing women as possessions to seeing them as people. The role of religion changed to have less of an influence. Plagues led to the end of the feudal system, and king s absolute power was taken away. The mass production of books came after the end of the plague. People started keeping records of time. Climate change created many issues with crops. All of these changes caused extraordinary effects on the transition from Old... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These aspects changed during the Middle English era. Fighters went from almost barbaric attitudes to being chivalrous. Fighters also no longer fought for personal fame, and instead fought for god, the king, honor, and women. With this attitude we saw many more knights in the society. Similarly who heroes fought was also greatly changed from Old English to Middle English. In Old English heroes would go into battles against monsters twice their size. Heroes also fought against gods and other supernatural forces. They were seen as everyday people who could take down and defeat these forces no man should be able to. The hero s tales soon changed from these outrageous stories of fighting monsters to Arthurian legends. In the Arthurian legends, heroes were the kings and knights who fought to protect their kingdom. Earthy stories were told of the middle class to make them seem dirty and undesirable. Equally important is how in Old English women were seen as objects to fulfill men s desires. When developing my presentation I decided to use both verbal and written communication, although both communication methods were used I had to ensure that they were used in the correct quantities. To keep my presentation engaging I tried to use as much visual representation as possible limiting the amount of text per slide. I chose to use PowerPoint because of its combination of written and verbal communication (not to mention the cost effectiveness of choosing PowerPoint and simplistic interface); the written aspects included the text on the slides, screenshots and images. The screenshots proved particularly useful as they was of the actual database used in the daily running of the Apprenticeships Store, once paired with the demonstration of inputting data into the database it ensured greater understanding due to more practical learning as opposed to theoretical learning. More detail was provided in my handouts ensuring I didn t give too much information at once and this allowed the audience to document any supplementary information I said during the presentation, by speaking and interpreting what was on the slides ensured the presentation remained fluid and ... • 23. The Challenges Of Poverty In Education Poverty is an increasing problem in the world that greatly impacts our most vulnerable population. Children who are born into poverty are automatically placed at a disadvantage going into school. Before they are even in the school system they are achieving less than their richer counterparts (Morrissey, Hutchison, Winsler, 2014). The academic achievement gap between students of low income and higher income is staggering, by implementing solutions that address the needs of transportation and meals as well as offering therapy programs and investing time into building strong relationships with students, educators can attempt to bridge the gap. Children coming from low income families are greatly affected by the financial strain within their household. Their parents are often working odd hours, shift work and or multiple jobs leaving these children to take care of themselves. This not only affects the cognitive development, but also may cause tardiness and absences if the children are responsible to get themselves ready and to school. Parents may also find it difficult to manage the pick up and drop off times in combination of their work schedules. When students do not attend school or arrive late they miss out on crucial instructional time from their teachers, as well as social interactions with peers (Morrissey, Hutchison, Winsler, 2014). The first strategy that I would recommend would be to incorporate Julianna within the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) meetings. I know that it would be a challenge for a 2 year old to sit through the whole entire meeting, so I would have her present for the first five minutes, at the beginning of the meeting and then would have her sent back to play with her classmates. This would help to make her aware of the fact that her teacher and I do communicate regarding her academic and behavioral performance. It may also make her aware of the fact that her behavior is being recorded/kept track of and will not be tolerated. This strategy will allow her to work on listening to other people s opinions and self respect. Another strategy that could be used is for her teacher to make note of her behavior on her daily classroom report form that is sent home with her each day. This can be reviewed by Julianna s parents and with Julianna at home, so that she knows that her parents know what is going on at school. Time out is another strategy that should be incorporated within the classroom setting. Oh, Play that Thing and The Dead Republic by Roddy Doyle In Roddy Doyle s series Oh, Play That Thing and The Dead Republic the world is shown to the readers through the eyes of a wise fool, Henry Smart. The series includes a wide variety of magical realism, and how Henry continues to fight social norms to get what he wants. The idea of society vs. man and individualism takes a toll on Henry s pride by forcing him to jump from job to job or from flat to flat that ultimately puts him in disarray. Each book s analysis should be in its own category, but they have many identical ideas, themes, and characters that bring them together. The elements of magical realism in a historical series, at first sight seem quite suitable. It is generally agreed that the picaresque, with its humorous ideas on the social outcasts trying to endure an aggressive environment, is a sensible move against the romanticize tendency of the plot. Magic realism, with its limited interruption of mimetic rules, lends itself to a number of uses, postcolonial being one of them. It introduces elements of grotesque moments that allow the readers to sense the satirical potentials and it brings in metaphorical aspects to the plate. The aspects of magical realism seem to play with the readers mind. The convention of picaresque combined with magical realism builds a wider grotesque vision for the reader. It is not only the space but also the characters, the main protagonist among them are shaped according to the defamilliarising rules of this magical picaresque world. ... • 44. Examples Of Rebirth In The Road By Cormac Mccarthy The Rebirth of a New Man: A Journey of Hope among the Contradictions Inherent in Human Nature. A man and a child, father and son, are alone against an inclement nature while pushing a cart filled with tools, blankets, and things that they have found along the way to the south. About ten years before the world had been reduced to ashes by an apocalyptic disaster, which it is not known whether it was caused by a natural event or the foolishness of human beings. The world is reduced to a single color, gray, that of the ashes covering all that is left, that of hearts and minds, clouded by the pain of the loss and the terror of solitude. All that is left of the humankind is a few tenacious survivors struggling unceasingly against hunger and cold, and those who have lost any trace of humanity giving free vent to the lowest instincts of oppression and violence. But in the novel The Road, Cormac McCarthy paints a vivid and dramatic picture of the catastrophic consequences of a cataclysm that are nothing more than an excuse to minimize the outer contingencies with the sole purpose to bring up what is really dear to his heart, the relationship between a father and a son. They have been deliberately left unnamed for the whole story to epitomize the archetypes of the man and the child, a hymn to paternity, and to unconditional love. They have for long advocated for the acceptance of their existence and punishment for crimes committed against them. One of the hardest battles the community has had to face was the right to marry in a society that still holds the values of a traditional relationship which is between a male and female. The struggle was quite harsh but it all paid off by 2015 when the supreme court granted gay couples the right to marry. This historical decision did not go without outcry and criticisms. Most of the dissatisfaction came from those who hold very religious values and beliefs that claims homosexuality is a sin. Religion has always been a part of the American way of life since the nation s founding and with that homosexuality has been demonized throughout our society. Nick Hanauer holds a valid point about income inequality being an important issue, but I am not convinced it is the largest problem the middle class faces. The Black National Anthem was written in celebration of Abraham Lincoln s birthday, and it became originally titled as the Negro National Anthem as stated by the National Association for the Advancements of Colored People(NAACP). Since then it changed to The Black National Anthem. The words in the anthem symbolised the racism African Americans encountered. The anthem was a way of showing patriotism and hope for the future, sung today in churches, assemblies, and black events throughout the nation.
