Analysis Of The Movie Butterfield Stars Essay
Butterfield stars as Bruno, a curious, stubborn eight year old whose family is relocated to the
countryside when his father receives a new job as a head member of the Nazi party, working for the
Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp. Lonely and frustrated from having no one his own age to
talk to, Bruno explores past the limits of his backyard. He comes across a barbed wire fence, with a
young boy named Schmuel (played by Scanlon) on the other side wearing what Bruno perceives to be
striped pajamas. The two boys strike up a friendship through the fence, with Bruno coming to visit
Shmuel almost daily. Neither boy grasps that Schmuel is in a death camp, and when Schmuel
confesses to Bruno that he is Jewish, Bruno doesn t not seem to understand why that matters. Curious
as to what really lies on the other side of the fence, Bruno and Schmuel plot for him to sneak into the
camp, which leads to the demise of both of them. The film is more emotion based rather than fact
based, in an attempt to appeal to the audiences symphonies rather than instruct them on a historical
event. It has been criticized for its accuracy, specifically pertaining to the ages of the boys. Many
critics claim that boys as young as Schmuel would never have been at Auschwitz, because all children
too young to work were gassed upon arrival. Others argue that the film is symbol of innocence, and
the two boys reflect how children are able to look past each other s differences easier than adults.

Diversity in the Galapagos Islands
If not for Charles Darwin, shown on the right, the world might not see the Galapagos Islands how we
do today. The islands hold exotic and extraordinary plants and animals. Of these animals, some are
going extinct or have already gone extinct. There are many varieties of natural and introduced plant
life. Charles Darwin was born February 12, 1809 in Shrewsbury, England. He sailed on the HMS
Beagle in 1831. He knew he was going to the Galapagos, but he didn t know that he would discover
the theory of evolution. The plants on the Galapagos Island are very tropical and numerous in varietes.
According to the Galapagos Conservancy there are about six hundred and forty native species of of
plants on the Galapagos Islands. There are about eight hundred and twenty five introducer species.
One hundred of the introduced species have become established in the wild. There are three major
zones that the plants live in ; the coastal zone, the arid zone, and the highlands zone. In the coastal
zone mangrove trees are very common and have an important role for bird breeding sites. The arid
zone is very dry and has adapted to the drought conditions. Some of these plants that have adapted to
the drought conditions are the succulent cacti and the leafless shrub, which only grows leaves in the
rainy season. The humid zones are lush and green. There are mosses and epiphytes growing on trees
for support. Some animals like the Galapagos penguin, shown on the right have adapted to the

Summary Of Gun Control
This week, I chose an article about gun s control.
The article was written by Kelin Emmett and reviewed by Firmin DeBrabander .
Their opinion contradicts the opinion of some in saying that the right to have a weapon makes a
society free. The authors accuse the fear to make it pro gun. This is not freedom. The authors also
criticize the media by encouraging fear. The article claims that the communities most affected by
violence approve the control of the guns, and the areas least affected by violence often celebrated the
guns as emblematic of freedom.
My opinion about the subject of this article is:
I agree with the authors about having the power to have a gun don t give you freedom. If you want a
gun, this means you have a fear of something

Description Of The Electric Motors
1. Introduction The electric motors are widely used in model life. In task 3, it is required to design an
escalator in this task. To reduce the energy consumption, the control system should be designed as
working in two models, high speed or low speed when there is no people use the escalator. The
specific requirements are listed as below: 1. Suitable sensors are chosen to detect the number of
people in the escalator. 2. The escalator operates at a high speed mode when there is a person or more
in the escalator. The control voltage is 2.5V with no load connected to the generator. 3. The escalator
will change to low speed mode when the last person has left the escalator 5 seconds. The control
voltage is 1V with no load connected to the generator. 4. Mode 1: the motor will accelerate from low
speed mode to high speed model within 0.5 seconds. 5. Mode 2: the motor is able to accelerate with a
zero steady state error with minimum achievable rise time. 6. As the passenger in the escalator are
different, the system is able to work with no load and 5 Ω load. 2. Motor 2.1 Motor generator set The
motor and generator are connected in coaxial mode, as figure 1 describes. Due to the specification
(operating same in the situation of with and without load), the set point is used. That is because that
when the load changes, the voltage between the motor will change. However, since the speed should
be same in the condition of no load and 5 Ω load, the measured

Ghost Singer By Anna Lee Walters
Ghost Singer by Anna Lee Walters is a tale of the historical injustices suffered by Indigenous peoples
and the modern consequences of those injustices. Although it is clear that the spirit people in the novel
serve as the most outwardly fearsome people in the novel, it is important to take into account the
overall systemic injustices that the characters of Native American heritage suffer under throughout the
histories presented in the novel. Walters addresses fearsomeness and sympathetic characters through
the use of dangerous characters and situations presented directly and indirectly to the characters. The
fearsomeness of the characters and the sympathy felt for the characters is dependent upon the
perspectives of the readers since these fearsome figures are a cultural construct and a projection of that
cultures fears (Cohen 1). The fearsome figures in the novels are presented to initially be the spirits
haunting the artifacts, but upon closer examination the larger more entrenched issue of outdated
models of thought in relation to Indigenous peoples appear to be the most important fearsome figure.
The protagonist of the novel is dependent upon the views taken, and the fearsome figures that the
historians, such as David Evans, and characters are attempting aid the spirits, such as George
Daylight. Walters addresses the fearsome nature of a system dependent on examining and judging
indigenous societies based on white values, which is problematic since both cultures do not

Paedrus Plato s Canons Of Rhetoric
3) In the Phaedrus, Plato discussed the metaphor of the chariot and charioteer. Explain the metaphor
and apply the metaphor to today s society. What/who are the horses and what/who guides the chariot?
Why?
In the Phaedrus, Plato shares the allegory of the chariot to explain the nature of the human soul or
psyche. The chariot is pulled by two winged horses, one mortal and the other immortal. The mortal,
black horse is deformed and obstinate. Plato describes the horse as a crooked lumbering animal, put
together anyhow... of a dark color, with grey eyes and blood red complexion; the mate of insolence
and pride, shag eared and deaf, hardly yielding to whip and spur (Phaedrus, Plato). The immortal,
white horse, on the other hand, is noble and game, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inartistic proof is persuading with hard evidence and artistic proof is persuading with rhetorical
appeals (Classical Rhetoric Aristotle/Rhetoric, p. 176). Ethos the appeal to authority or honesty of the
speaker to the audience, pathos the appeal to the audience s emotions and logos the appeal to the
audience s logic. The first line of the Rhetoric is Rhetoric is a counterpart of dialectic (Classical
Rhetoric Aristotle/Rhetoric, p. 179) as Aristotle s way of arguing that reason and rhetoric are
intertwined together. According to Aristotle, logic is concerned with reasoning to reach scientific
certainty or big T truth while dialectic and rhetoric can be a tool used to manipulate and deceive.
Aristotle s believe rhetoric should be viewed as the ability in any particular case to see the available
means of persuasion (Classical Rhetoric Aristotle/Rhetoric, p. 181). Aristotle saw the Sophists use of
rhetoric as a way manipulate others by manipulating their emotions and omitting facts and that s why
he identified rhetoric as one of the three modes of persuasion. Aristotle goes on the say that Persuasion
is achieved by the speaker s personal character when the speech is spoken as to make us think him
credible. We believe good men more fully and more

The Gross Profit Margin Ratio
The Gross profit margin ratio is a measure of profitability concerned with the effectiveness of
generating profit. It represent the relation between the gross profit and the sales revenue generate in
the same period (McLaney and Atrill, 2012). The higher of this ratio is better for the company. The
Dixons´ gross profit margin is virtually the same in both years, 2013 is 7,32% and 2014 is 7,47%.
However, it is too low to compare with the industry average ratio (15%). It should be as a
consequence of the high cost of sales. Reducing the cost of the goods sold is an immediately measure
that the company must implemented. Additionally, increasing the price of the product should be
another alternative. These changes will reflect positively in the profit of the year leading to a higher
gross profit margin.
The current ratio is a measure of liquidity, which is concerned with the ability of the company to meet
its short term financial obligations. It relates the current assets and the current liabilities of a business
the higher the ratio means that the business have more liquidity and quickly response to financial
obligations, however is not recommended to be too high (McLaney and Atrill, 2012). The Dixons´
current ratios in both year are significantly lower than the industry average which is 2.05 times, in
2013 is 0.89 and during 2014 is 0.93. These results lower than 1, is an evidence of a problem in the
liquidity of the company and the difficult for Dixon to meet its

The Big Sleep, The Postman Always Rings Twice, and Gilda s...
The Film Noir genre is the product of the 1940 s which reflects the darker attitude of society
representing depression, realism, and amplifying a new dynamic for women on screen. As World War
II progressed, there was less money compiling in Hollywood. The little money collected affected the
creative drive for the directors in how they were able to produce for their films. The smaller budget
impacted money to spend on lighting, sets, costumes, as well as providing pay for extras to appear in
scenes. In addition to the money limitation, the realism presented in this genre expresses the reflection
on the darker tones in 40 s society. As War was active, many experienced turmoil in their personal
lives. Serious situations stirring emotions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smoking was also heavily present throughout the film. The main character detective Marlowe
illustrates subtle sexual tension between various female characters. The dialogue pace is fast as
characters were often overlapping each other. There is not permanent narrative in the film. However,
The Big Sleep only features a brief narrative introductory explanation. Crime dominates this film with
guns, murders, blackmail, and thugs. The declared femme fatale in The Big Sleep portrayed by Lauren
Bacall is Vivian Rutledge. Vivian is the character who becomes Marlowe s love interest. Vivian s
sternness vastly overshadows her seductive appeal. She is very mysterious as well as coy when it
comes to withholding information from detective Marlowe. Vivian does show vulnerability over time
as she develops feelings for Marlowe amidst the dangerous environment they are inhabited. However,
the younger sister Carmen Sternwood played by Martha Vickers could have a femme fatale essence
about her. The meeting between Marlowe and Carmen is both edgy and seductive as the shot pans
from the ground then proceeds to her figure to present an overly flirty Carmen. Marlowe dismisses the
relationship because of the apparent age difference yet the film does not portray Vivian in this manner.
The camera angles do not appear to have much variety, as they are mostly full framed shots. The
lighting features mostly indoor lighting. Shadows are not a major highlight in most of the

This philosophy is well illustrated by this 2014 press release: 125 years old, PAUL is the Ambassador

Macbook Pro Research Paper
For this assignment I ve decided to do a research on my MacBook Pro. There are two parties to the
warranty. One party is the consumer and the other party is Apple themselves. Whenever the consumer
buys the product, that s when the warranty activates. From that day on, the consumer has one year to
make claims that the warranty covers. After doing research online, I couldn t really find anywhere
where as it would claim that the apple (MacBook) is covered by the UCC. UCC is not a federal law,
so it really depends on the states that enforce these law. If let s say for example Florida had the UCC
laws then that wouldn t leave much of choice for Apple because they would have to follow the laws of
that state if they would want to operate within that state. In United States, implied warranties are from

honestly agree with this part of the AppleCare because what if something happens after the one year
time frame. I know that they don t want people to get the AppleCare after the one year warranty and
the laptop is already messed up but they can make some regulations on this. For example they can
have people that missed to get the AppleCare within the one year warranty to go to selected stores
such as apple stores or best buy and they can have someone look at it make sure the computer is

Essay on The Fight to Legalize Marijuana
The Fight to Legalize Marijuana
Marijuana is probably the most recreational and illegal drug in the world. The most significant
ingredient is delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinal, it is commonly referred to it abbreviated form THC. This
drug should not be legalized because it would lead to hard core drugs, there would be an increase in
obesity, and it affects the heart, lungs and the brain. There are legal, social, and medical reasons that
marijuana should not be decriminalized.
Some legal reasons that marijuana shouldn t be decriminalized are it would lead to experimenting with
more hard core drugs such as heroin and cocaine. It will also increase in crime and car accidents

Some medical reasons that marijuana shouldn t be decriminalized are that it has long and short terms
effects. Examples of the short term outcomes include memory loss, difficulty with thinking, loss of
motor skills and increased heart rate. According to the National Institutes of Health show that
someone smoking about five joints per week is taking in as many cancer causing chemicals as
someone smoking a pack of cigarettes every day. There is no science proof that smoked marijuana can
be used for medication. Since cannabis plants are polluted with a range of fungal spores, smoking
marijuana may increase the risk of infectious organisms. Taradiff, J. Marijuana and the War on Drugs.

The Drug Enforcement Administration situations on fighting to legalize medical marijuana are based
on two proposals: the scientific field views marijuana as a treatment while the DEA targets sick and
dying people using the drug. Neither suggestion is true, science proved it is not medicine and it is not
safe to use. The DEA targets on criminal trafficking and not the sick and dying. In 1970 congress
authorized laws against marijuana based on that there is no logically proven medical value. Like the
Food and Drug Administration, which is responsible for authorizing drugs safe an effective medicine
has declined to approve smoked marijuana for any circumstance or disease.

I Am From Lima, Ohio
I am from Lima, Ohio, which has its roots as both a railroad and oil town. The city was founded in
1831, when its first citizen, Absalom Brown, made his home in the area. Thanks to the five railroads
that run through the city, it began to boom as a major railroad port, and when oil was found under the
city in 1885, the population grew massively. However, around halfway through the 20th century, the
city suffered the classic boom or bust economic downturn like other towns similar to it. Today, Lima is
still an oil town with a large refinery on the south side, and a railroad port on the north side, but still
struggles to break from its past. Once a major railroad city with a locomotive factory and a
canteen/passenger depot, what is left of them are but shadows of Lima s railroading past. The
locomotive factory, Lima Locomotive Works, was founded in 1878. It later became a major leader in
locomotive development, being primarily responsible for developing Shay locomotives, named after a
lumberman by the name of Ephraim Shay, of Haring, Michigan. LLW was also a player in the
manufacturing of gas mechanical engines, competing with a company by the name of Baldwin, who
had a monopoly on the market because of their production of trench locomotives during WWI. In
1949, the last of the locomotives made by LLW came through its gates. Today, the land the factory
used to sit on is empty, save three buildings. However, the canteen/depot is still standing and currently

Sonnet 43 By Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Sonnet 43, by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, is a classic love story written to explain how she feels
about love. How Do I Love Thee, has a variety of interpretations, a multitude of symbols, follows an
iambic pentameter, and tells the reader a story. Browning does all of this in a fourteen line sonnet that
she wrote for her beloved husband. To understand this, the reader has to make interpretations on their
own. Browning writes her poetry in a way that allows the reader to see what they choose to see. Since
the poem How Do I Love Thee has different ways to understand its meanings, it allows us to go about
understanding it how we chose. The most obvious way to understand this consists of the speaker
asking the audience how they can love their beloved, and then attempts to list the ways. The love they
possess seems to be eternal and exist everywhere, and if God will allow them, the speaker will love
them after death. This interpretation comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Astronomy Of The Islamic World
Astronomy in Medieval Islam Astronomy is the branch of science that deals with celestial objects,
space, and the universe as a whole. During the medieval era, a golden age of innovations in science
took part in the Islamic world. In particular cities in the Iberian Peninsula, like Cordoba, astronomy
blossomed and thrived as an aftermath of the genius and creativity that took place there. Innovations
in astronomy were vital in inspiring the other scientific discoveries, and were greatly encouraged by
the religious groups during the time. In the Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World, S. Nomanul
Haq and Massimo Campanini wrote that astronomy is the only natural science that escaped the
censure of the medieval Muslim opponents of secular sciences (ʿulūm al awāʿil) and found a home in
mosques, receiving the blessing of mainstream religious circles. 1 Because of this support and
encouragement, scientists of astronomy were set up to thrive and innovate. Discoveries during this
period made fundamental advancements on Greek and Mesopotamian astronomy and were crucial for
the later advances of Copernicus and Kepler that give the view on astronomy that is held today. The
support of astronomy that garnered during the medieval era had many influences. One influence was
religion. Marking time accurately is essential for many religions including Islam, Judaism, and
Christianity. The Koran requires the faithful to pray five times a day at five very precise times: at the

How Did Thomas Edison Impact The World

successful career as an inventor up until the time of his death in 1931, at the age of 81. He was
married to Mary Stilwell until her death in 1884. Shorly after, he married Mina Miller. A well known

Antisocial Personality Disorder Is Not A New Phenomena
Antisocial personality disorder is not a new phenomena. For centuries, people both rich and poor,
successful, unsuccessful, praised and despised could be diagnosed as being a sociopath. Antisocial
personality disorder is a type of chronic mental condition in which a person s ways of thinking,
perceiving situations and relating to others are dysfunctional, and destructive. There are two major
types of psychological disorders. Antisocial personality disorder and Borderline personality disorder.
They do share some of the same symptoms so diagnosis could be difficult. Anger, self control issues,
and frequent emotional outbursts are the most documented commonalities. (Licht, Hull, Ballantyne,
n.d.) But where people with Borderline disorders are more prone to self deprivation, antisocial
behavior sufferers tend to affect others directly with their behavior. Some of the symptoms more
specific to a sociopath include disregard of typical morals, persistent exploitation or manipulation for
personal gain or sheer personal pleasure, repeated use of intimidation, dishonesty and
misrepresentation, hostility, impulsiveness, aggression. Violent or poor and abusive relationships, both
past and present, also seems to be a common theme in subjects with both disorders. (Mayo Clinic
Staff, 2013) But I think that, because there smaller percentage of sociopathic cases, and they affect
both sexes, I will look into that aspect of psychological disorders. While there are varying degrees to

Summary Of Smartphone Addiction By Jessie Brown
In Jessie Brown: Who Says Smartphone Addiction is bad thing? The case for constant connectivity
(Brown, 2012), Brown claims that the cellphone is not the problem, in fact, it is the person and how
they choose to value their time while using smartphones. In the article Who says smart phone
addiction is a bad thing? The case for constant connectivity. (Toronto Life, 2012), Jesse Brown breaks
down his reasons and beliefs on the negativity surrounding smart phones that perceived as an
addiction. Correspondingly, Brown states that notification sounds and buzzing from our devices tells
us, we are important and wanted, however we fear that we won t be able to live without this constant
stream of reassuring stimulation. Moreover, Brown tries to convey that smartphones are not the
problem, we re the problem. We reply on smartphones for everything way more than we need to.
Furthermore, we make checking our smartphones our top priority by immediately jumping when we
hear sounds that indicate notifications. Accordingly, we are on high alert because of these
notifications, which could be anything from an important work update or a friend s text. ... Show more

Discrimination At Wal-Mart
Growing up I had always known Wal Mart to be the store with the cheapest prices, but I never knew
the history as to why Wal Mart was such a profitable business. Sam Walton established Wal Mart in
1962 in Rogers, Arkansas. Sam Walton believed in discounts, and low prices since he entered the
business in 1945. He said here s the simple lesson we learned by cutting your prices you can boost
your sales to a pint where you can earn far more at a cheaper retail price than you would have by

The Effects Of History And Social Structures On Our Lives...
Experiences play a vital role on who we are as a person, more importantly the memories that we ve
had as children stick with us for the rest of our lives. They help structure and model us into a person
that will eventually do extraordinary things that will affect others around us. In first world countries
most experiences as a child are generally the same for everyone because they live in a safe shielded
environment that protects them anything bad that could happen but, children growing up in third
world countries face horrible experiences that can cost them their lives but they believe is the norm.
Through my primary research I have discovered that history and social structures have had a great
impact on my personal life than ever imagined having to growing up in a third world country. After
developing my secondary research, the information I collected is proof of events that have ultimately
lead to factors of my development from an infant to who I am as a person today. Throughout my life
there were different historical events occurring at the time in my home country and my future country
that unfolded to shape and model my life to make me the person that I am today. I am able to identify
specific events that separately correspond to the process of coming to Canada before while residing in
my home country, during the immigration process to come here, and after arriving in Canada. In this
essay I will be talking about how these historical events and social structures shaped

Discovering a Culture through Magical Realism Essay
Discovering a Culture through Magical Realism
Every culture has a memorable type of literature. When one thinks of English literature, one thinks of
William Shakespeare or Charles Dickens. The American writers Thoreau, Clemens, and Emerson
bring to mind the days when America was still proving herself to be equal to the European countries.
France had her own artists, such as Voltaire and Hugo, as did Spain with Cervantes and Dante.
However, when one thinks of Latin America, what writers come to mind? Very few of these authors
are as well known as those mentioned. However, through the concept of a previously unknown
literature, the world is viewing Latin America in a new light. Magical Realism seems to have
flourished in the warm, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Europe once cast out
America, the world once cast out Germany and Austria, and the literary world once cast out Latin
America. This culture, just like so many others, was criticized to extreme levels and yet prevailed to
bring to the world this remarkable new literary movement: Magical Realism.
The purpose and definition of Magical Realism are not easily reached as so many writers disagree
upon so many aspects. For instance, Roh believes Magical Realism takes an aspect of society, usually
overlooked, and adds a special essence that makes one truly appreciate the beauty of life (17). Roh
states, The point is not to discover the spirit beginning with objects, but...to discover objects beginning
with the spirit (24).
As Leal points out, Flores gives no definition or purpose specifically in his text. Flores does, however,
discuss many examples of Magical Realism and recites lines from the works to exemplify how
different each work is. Leal states in his work:
In magical realism key events have no logical or psychological explanation. The magical realist does
not try to copy the surrounding reality (as the realists did) or to wound it (as the surrealists did) but to
seize the mystery that breathes behind things. (123)
This excerpt from Leal is in keeping with the theory of Roh. They agree that one should capture an
idea or a feeling beginning with the spirit of that same subject.

Civil War During The Reconstruction Era
During the Reconstruction Era, Congress passed many laws to provide equal rights to people of color.
But at the local level, specifically in the South, many Democrats took the law into their own hands.
They supported the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) hoping to restore the pre Civil War social hierarchy. The
texts in Going to the Source illustrates two groups of individuals who opposed the KKK. In
testimonies given by white witnesses, Republicans from the North felt the KKK posed a political and
social danger in the South, but did not feel intimidated. The testimonies given by black witnesses were
people who had experience of the Klan s violence, and felt their lives were threatened. The Klan s
attacks on whites were more inclined towards social harassment, while their attacks on blacks, which
consisted of voting intimidation and night rides, were violent and abusive because the KKK s main
goal was white supremacy. After the Civil War, many white Republicans from the North moved down
South in order to develop more economic opportunities. But this meant that white Republicans
brought their own political beliefs. For example, many Northerners that moved down South
encouraged economic developments models such as a free labor market. According to David Hardin, a
post Civil War historian, Northerners play a central role in shaping new southern governments during
Reconstruction (18). The KKK viewed these white Northerners as moral threat to their political views,

Rites of passage according to Arnold Van Gennep (1960) are experiences of transition that represent
growth in life which can be divided into; rites of separation, in which the individual is divorced from
their familiar environment, rites of transition, in which the old identity is destroyed and a temporary
one created, and the rites of aggregation where the individual is reintegrated into society in their new
role. The 2016 wedding can be understood as a rite of separation where the bride and groom give up
their single identity upon engagement, another example can be seen where the bride is given away by
the father of the bride, shedding one family identity for another. The rite of transition can be seen
where they are stripped of their single identity upon engagement and placed in a liminal state with
identities of Bride and Groom until the conclusion of the transition (Turner, 1987). Finally, the rite of
aggregation can be observed as the two individuals are presented with their new identities and re enter
society as Husband and Wife via ring and vow exchange, announcement to the guests, signing of

The Success Of The Geico Advertisement Campaign
Advertising Strategy In the past twelve months, there has been one advertising campaign that has
stuck out amongst the rest. This advertisement can not only be seen on television, but also at your
local movie theater before the opening credits. This advertisement campaign is Geico s Spy
commercial. This commercial features a US spy that is combating operatives when his cell phone
rings. When he picks up, his mother is on the other side of the line complaining about his father
refusing to hire pest control to get rid of the squirrels, as it is personal this time. The commercial then
goes on to say, if you are a mom you call at the worst time, it is what you do. If you want to save 15
percent on car insurance you switch to Geico. It s what you do (Mother Knows Best, 2015). This
paper will discuss the success of the Geico advertisement.
Success of Campaign The Geico Spy advertisement campaign first aired on December 28, 2015. This
commercial was a hit from the very beginning. The commercial used mothers calling at the wrong
time as a familiarity to most. They contrasted this with the James Bond type character being in the
worst situation possible when his mother calls. Of course, the topic would be another familiar situation
for most, where the mother is discussing something regarding their father doing something they
disagree with, most likely just bored and wanting to talk. Moms call a lot, says agency creative

Q1. How structurally attractive is the Russian ice cream market? Discuss how its industry structure
can be made more attractive? (663 words)
The political and financial instability had greatly impacted Russian ice cream industry. The financial
crisis in 1998 and the devaluation of the ruble had greatly reduced Russian market s consumption
ability. It also increased the production cost of Russian ice cream producers who relied on external
market for raw materials. The shrinkage of frozen import market heavily impacted by the financial
crisis forced the wholesales entered the ice cream market, which intensified the competition in the

They would further squeeze the profit margin of producers. Therefore a lower cost would guarantee
better profit margin. Since consumption in this segment had a strong seasonality, the ability to recoup
the cost of extra producing capacity would be necessary to reduce the cost.
Family consumption segment was relative small, but it was the most promising. Compared with
impulsive consumption segment, it had less seasonality since ice cream was eaten in the warm houses
in winter, which reduced the demand to producing capacity. Shelf space in the super market was
crucial to succeed in this segment. To get this valuable resource, two measures should be adopted.
Firstly, building a close relationship with supermarket was a necessity. This cooperation would
guarantee the shelf space. A strong brand with strong customer preference would pull the demand and
increase the bargaining power with supermarket. Secondly, a special package and longer quality
guarantee period was necessary as well. If the products could be kept long, supermarket would have to
discount the product as the deadline approaching.
Café and restaurant consumption segment was the most lucrative and most demanding segment.
Alignment between the products and lifestyle was the basis in this segment. A high quality product
without a prestige brand could not survive in this segment. Therefore heavy investment on adverting

Persuasive Essay On Safe Spaces
In a recent poll a whopping 36 percent of students felt that safe spaces were necessary on college
campuses according to LendEDU, a student loan organization. Safes spaces provide an outlet for
many who may take offense to material that negatively impacts a student s emotions. Some students
who have had traumas in their life take security in safe spaces due to the guarantee of not being in
harm s way of the lessons they may find offensive. In a world that is not censored from sensitive
material in every location it is apprehensive to put trust into a specific location for security. Although
many would agree safe spaces provide an outlet of security for those who have experienced traumas in
their life, an alternative compromise should be in place to allow students to explore the world from
different perspectives, learn to handle the tribulation of opposition, and to prepare students to
overcome adversity outside of the classroom. Safe spaces on college campuses are defined as a place
or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be
exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm therefor, it
is wise to find comfort in the ideological sense of security a student would likely find in a safe space.
One of the most captivating reasons students believe in safe spaces is because they allow an outlet for
many who may have had traumas in their life. Many find it appealing that they have a

discoveries there. Notable are skeletons of phytosaurs. These aquatic reptiles, up to thirty feet in

Strategies For Resolving Team Conflict Essay
Dealing with conflict is always a challenging situation, which requires team members to be integrated
into a single, organized unit (Bolger, 2003). Conflict among teams is bound to occur no matter how
much one tries to avoid it. While resolving all conflicts is not possible, these conflicts can be dealt
with using the correct methodology. To address team conflict there are five methods: Accommodate,
Compromise, Enforce, Explore, and Postpone (Bolger, 2003).
Accommodation Bases for using the accommodation strategy occurs when working together to
accomplish goals are far more important than sorting out personal differences. This means that
individuals or teams decide to go along with another s point of view or decision. ... Show more

However, this objective is generally thought to be the best approach in addressing conflict since the
goal is to reach consensus (Barker, et al., 1991).
Enforce To enforce is to take what ever steps are required to back a non negotiable mind set. In many
cases this mind set occurs when an individual feels strongly about ones point of view and takes a non
compromising stance on the issue. This strategy should be used to assume a firm position; for example
when there is not enough time to conduct an ongoing discussion about a given subject. However, in
the event that this strategy is used excessively, some team members could consider themselves losers
and try to retaliate. Additionally, it is also possible that team members could become too frustrated to
voice their points of view or will no longer even try to participate (Fisher, et al., 1991). If this strategy
is under used, one may be perceived as lacking assertiveness or be seen as being vulnerable.
Explore The Explore strategy is used when team members or other teams develop and investigate new
ideas together. This approach produces a high level of satisfaction since the group feels a large amount
of pride in ownership and accomplishment by all their needs being met (Miles Mangold, 2002). The
Explore strategy is also beneficial because solutions are discovered that had not been previously

Conceptualizing Addiction Paper
Introduction
For many years, individuals have battled substance abuse and addiction. My position comes from
hearing about it, having seeing results from it, and reading about it, also developing my own thoughts
about addiction. Weil and Rosen (1993) believe that a drug use (and addiction) results from humans
longing for a sense of completeness and wholeness, and searching for satisfaction outside of
themselves. McNeece and DiNitto (2012) says the reason why people continue to use drugs to the
point of becoming a physically and/ or psychologically dependent on them are more complex, some
have tried to explain this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the legacy of treating alcoholism and drug addiction as sin or moral weakness continues to
influence public policies regarding alcohol and drug abuse (McNeece DiNitto, 2012).
Competing Views
The model appeals to our common sense because it is consistent with liberal views. In a liberal
society, free will and individual autonomy are highly emphasized and valued ideals (Wilbanks, 1989).
Addicts are conceived as free willed individuals making rational choices and the reason they engage in
drug use is because they have bad morals. However, individuals with good morals are just likely to
use drugs such as alcohol or marijuana. If this is the case other factors are present. In the face of
reality, the moral model is insufficient to capture the phenomenon of drug addiction (Wilbanks, 1989).
The Disease Model
The disease model of addiction rests on three primary assumptions predisposition to use a drug, loss of
control over use, and progression (Krivanek, 1988, p.202). These physiological alterations cause an
undeniable desire to take more drugs (McNeece DiNitto, 2012). Addicts are viewed as individuals
with an incurable disease with drug addiction as the symptom. The disease model argues users cannot
be held accountable for their addictions (Kirvanek, 1988).
Competing Views
As the disease model argues that there is no cure for addiction, the only treatments available aims to
reduce or suppress the urge to use drugs (McNeece DiNitto, 2012). Firstly, addicts

Crimes against Business
In crimes that are related to business, it s not always the employees of those businesses that that stray
away from their morals, and greed overcomes their judgment. On May 19th 2014, a Brooklyn, N.Y.,
man was sentenced to state prison for orchestrating a bank fraud system with at least two defendants.
The defendants in this case were found to be impersonating people to whom are holders of legitimate
business bank accounts. In their scheme, they were able to steal more than half a million dollars. The
New York authorities sentenced Nurlin Wright, the 35 year old Brooklyn, NY and two other
defendants to racketeering and conspiracy. Racketeering as a federal crime may come with some very
hefty penalties, and especially used in major organized crimes cases. Racketeering is the federal crime
of conspiring to organize to commit crimes, especially on an ongoing basis as part of an organized
crime operation. The Acting Attorney, General Hoffman said in this article, This was a huge bank
fraud scheme in which the defendants attempted to use the casinos to launder the stolen funds. This
case highlights the ever present threat of identity theft and the need for financial institutions, banking
clients and law enforcement to remain extremely vigilant. In this case, the criminals used techniques
such as money laundering to try to hide their illegal activities. According to INTERPOL, money

Literary Devices In Llake By William Blake
Jerusalem by William Blake, the title of this poem, references the city of Jerusalem. The holy land for
the Christian and Islamic religion. William Blake was religious during his lifetime (as it showed in
many of his poems) and it was said that he had visions of god and archangels in his childhood. So as
simple as the title may seem, it symbolizes the ideas that Blake had towards religion. Blake might also
talk about how England invaded Jerusalem, and it would depend on his viewpoint, if he thinks of it
positively, or something that goes against his beliefs. It could also be an ode to Jerusalem, as
previously mentioned, William Blake was very religious and this poem could demonstrate his
appreciation towards God.
The speaker in the poem talks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to unify for a change and build the perfect city of Jerusalem that they

  • 2. Analysis Of The Movie Butterfield Stars Essay Butterfield stars as Bruno, a curious, stubborn eight year old whose family is relocated to the countryside when his father receives a new job as a head member of the Nazi party, working for the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp. Lonely and frustrated from having no one his own age to talk to, Bruno explores past the limits of his backyard. He comes across a barbed wire fence, with a young boy named Schmuel (played by Scanlon) on the other side wearing what Bruno perceives to be striped pajamas. The two boys strike up a friendship through the fence, with Bruno coming to visit Shmuel almost daily. Neither boy grasps that Schmuel is in a death camp, and when Schmuel confesses to Bruno that he is Jewish, Bruno doesn t not seem to understand why that matters. Curious as to what really lies on the other side of the fence, Bruno and Schmuel plot for him to sneak into the camp, which leads to the demise of both of them. The film is more emotion based rather than fact based, in an attempt to appeal to the audiences symphonies rather than instruct them on a historical event. It has been criticized for its accuracy, specifically pertaining to the ages of the boys. Many critics claim that boys as young as Schmuel would never have been at Auschwitz, because all children too young to work were gassed upon arrival. Others argue that the film is symbol of innocence, and the two boys reflect how children are able to look past each other s differences easier than adults. Critics also ... The islands hold exotic and extraordinary plants and animals. Of these animals, some are going extinct or have already gone extinct. There are many varieties of natural and introduced plant life. Charles Darwin was born February 12, 1809 in Shrewsbury, England. He sailed on the HMS Beagle in 1831. He knew he was going to the Galapagos, but he didn t know that he would discover the theory of evolution. The plants on the Galapagos Island are very tropical and numerous in varietes. According to the Galapagos Conservancy there are about six hundred and forty native species of of plants on the Galapagos Islands. There are about eight hundred and twenty five introducer species. One hundred of the introduced species have become established in the wild. There are three major zones that the plants live in ; the coastal zone, the arid zone, and the highlands zone. In the coastal zone mangrove trees are very common and have an important role for bird breeding sites. The arid zone is very dry and has adapted to the drought conditions. Some of these plants that have adapted to the drought conditions are the succulent cacti and the leafless shrub, which only grows leaves in the rainy season. The humid zones are lush and green. There are mosses and epiphytes growing on trees for support. Some animals like the Galapagos penguin, shown on the right have adapted to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of Gun Control This week, I chose an article about gun s control. The article was written by Kelin Emmett and reviewed by Firmin DeBrabander . Their opinion contradicts the opinion of some in saying that the right to have a weapon makes a society free. The authors accuse the fear to make it pro gun. This is not freedom. The authors also criticize the media by encouraging fear. The article claims that the communities most affected by violence approve the control of the guns, and the areas least affected by violence often celebrated the guns as emblematic of freedom. My opinion about the subject of this article is: I agree with the authors about having the power to have a gun don t give you freedom. If you want a gun, this means you have a fear of something ... • 7. Description Of The Electric Motors 1. Introduction The electric motors are widely used in model life. In task 3, it is required to design an escalator in this task. To reduce the energy consumption, the control system should be designed as working in two models, high speed or low speed when there is no people use the escalator. The specific requirements are listed as below: 1. Suitable sensors are chosen to detect the number of people in the escalator. 2. The escalator operates at a high speed mode when there is a person or more in the escalator. The control voltage is 2.5V with no load connected to the generator. 3. The escalator will change to low speed mode when the last person has left the escalator 5 seconds. The control voltage is 1V with no load connected to the generator. 4. Mode 1: the motor will accelerate from low speed mode to high speed model within 0.5 seconds. 5. Mode 2: the motor is able to accelerate with a zero steady state error with minimum achievable rise time. 6. As the passenger in the escalator are different, the system is able to work with no load and 5 Ω load. 2. Motor 2.1 Motor generator set The motor and generator are connected in coaxial mode, as figure 1 describes. Due to the specification (operating same in the situation of with and without load), the set point is used. That is because that when the load changes, the voltage between the motor will change. However, since the speed should be same in the condition of no load and 5 Ω load, the measured ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Ghost Singer By Anna Lee Walters Ghost Singer by Anna Lee Walters is a tale of the historical injustices suffered by Indigenous peoples and the modern consequences of those injustices. Although it is clear that the spirit people in the novel serve as the most outwardly fearsome people in the novel, it is important to take into account the overall systemic injustices that the characters of Native American heritage suffer under throughout the histories presented in the novel. Walters addresses fearsomeness and sympathetic characters through the use of dangerous characters and situations presented directly and indirectly to the characters. The fearsomeness of the characters and the sympathy felt for the characters is dependent upon the perspectives of the readers since these fearsome figures are a cultural construct and a projection of that cultures fears (Cohen 1). The fearsome figures in the novels are presented to initially be the spirits haunting the artifacts, but upon closer examination the larger more entrenched issue of outdated models of thought in relation to Indigenous peoples appear to be the most important fearsome figure. The protagonist of the novel is dependent upon the views taken, and the fearsome figures that the historians, such as David Evans, and characters are attempting aid the spirits, such as George Daylight. Walters addresses the fearsome nature of a system dependent on examining and judging indigenous societies based on white values, which is problematic since both cultures do not ... What/who are the horses and what/who guides the chariot? Why? In the Phaedrus, Plato shares the allegory of the chariot to explain the nature of the human soul or psyche. The chariot is pulled by two winged horses, one mortal and the other immortal. The mortal, black horse is deformed and obstinate. Plato describes the horse as a crooked lumbering animal, put together anyhow... of a dark color, with grey eyes and blood red complexion; the mate of insolence and pride, shag eared and deaf, hardly yielding to whip and spur (Phaedrus, Plato). • 10. The Gross Profit Margin Ratio The Gross profit margin ratio is a measure of profitability concerned with the effectiveness of generating profit. It represent the relation between the gross profit and the sales revenue generate in the same period (McLaney and Atrill, 2012). The higher of this ratio is better for the company. The Dixons´ gross profit margin is virtually the same in both years, 2013 is 7,32% and 2014 is 7,47%. However, it is too low to compare with the industry average ratio (15%). It should be as a consequence of the high cost of sales. Reducing the cost of the goods sold is an immediately measure that the company must implemented. Additionally, increasing the price of the product should be another alternative. These changes will reflect positively in the profit of the year leading to a higher gross profit margin. The current ratio is a measure of liquidity, which is concerned with the ability of the company to meet its short term financial obligations. It relates the current assets and the current liabilities of a business the higher the ratio means that the business have more liquidity and quickly response to financial obligations, however is not recommended to be too high (McLaney and Atrill, 2012). The Dixons´ current ratios in both year are significantly lower than the industry average which is 2.05 times, in 2013 is 0.89 and during 2014 is 0.93. The Film Noir genre is the product of the 1940 s which reflects the darker attitude of society representing depression, realism, and amplifying a new dynamic for women on screen. As World War II progressed, there was less money compiling in Hollywood. The little money collected affected the creative drive for the directors in how they were able to produce for their films. The smaller budget impacted money to spend on lighting, sets, costumes, as well as providing pay for extras to appear in scenes. In addition to the money limitation, the realism presented in this genre expresses the reflection on the darker tones in 40 s society. As War was active, many experienced turmoil in their personal lives. Serious situations stirring emotions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Smoking was also heavily present throughout the film. The main character detective Marlowe illustrates subtle sexual tension between various female characters. The dialogue pace is fast as characters were often overlapping each other. There is not permanent narrative in the film. However, The Big Sleep only features a brief narrative introductory explanation. Crime dominates this film with guns, murders, blackmail, and thugs. The declared femme fatale in The Big Sleep portrayed by Lauren Bacall is Vivian Rutledge. Vivian is the character who becomes Marlowe s love interest. Vivian s sternness vastly overshadows her seductive appeal. She is very mysterious as well as coy when it comes to withholding information from detective Marlowe. Vivian does show vulnerability over time as she develops feelings for Marlowe amidst the dangerous environment they are inhabited. However, the younger sister Carmen Sternwood played by Martha Vickers could have a femme fatale essence about her. Thanks to the five railroads that run through the city, it began to boom as a major railroad port, and when oil was found under the city in 1885, the population grew massively. How Do I Love Thee, has a variety of interpretations, a multitude of symbols, follows an iambic pentameter, and tells the reader a story. Browning does all of this in a fourteen line sonnet that she wrote for her beloved husband. To understand this, the reader has to make interpretations on their own. Browning writes her poetry in a way that allows the reader to see what they choose to see. Since the poem How Do I Love Thee has different ways to understand its meanings, it allows us to go about understanding it how we chose. The most obvious way to understand this consists of the speaker asking the audience how they can love their beloved, and then attempts to list the ways. The love they possess seems to be eternal and exist everywhere, and if God will allow them, the speaker will love them after death. This interpretation comes from ... During the medieval era, a golden age of innovations in science took part in the Islamic world. In particular cities in the Iberian Peninsula, like Cordoba, astronomy blossomed and thrived as an aftermath of the genius and creativity that took place there. For instance, Roh believes Magical Realism takes an aspect of society, usually overlooked, and adds a special essence that makes one truly appreciate the beauty of life (17). Notable are skeletons of phytosaurs. These aquatic reptiles, up to thirty feet in length, had elongated snouts armed with thick, sharply pointed teeth. Their habits were probably much like those of modern crocodiles. Some lightly armored forms were not unlike crocodiles in appearance, except for their long, hook nosed snouts, but some armored types of phytosaurs may have looked almost like arthropods. Through work centered at the University of Texas at Austin, parts of the Trans Pecos region have yielded important fossils of Cretaceous reptiles, among them enormous crocodiles and the largest known pterosaur. • 36. Strategies For Resolving Team Conflict Essay Dealing with conflict is always a challenging situation, which requires team members to be integrated into a single, organized unit (Bolger, 2003). Conflict among teams is bound to occur no matter how much one tries to avoid it. While resolving all conflicts is not possible, these conflicts can be dealt with using the correct methodology. To address team conflict there are five methods: Accommodate, Compromise, Enforce, Explore, and Postpone (Bolger, 2003). Accommodation Bases for using the accommodation strategy occurs when working together to accomplish goals are far more important than sorting out personal differences. This means that individuals or teams decide to go along with another s point of view or decision. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this objective is generally thought to be the best approach in addressing conflict since the goal is to reach consensus (Barker, et al., 1991). Enforce To enforce is to take what ever steps are required to back a non negotiable mind set. In many cases this mind set occurs when an individual feels strongly about ones point of view and takes a non compromising stance on the issue. This strategy should be used to assume a firm position; for example when there is not enough time to conduct an ongoing discussion about a given subject. However, in the event that this strategy is used excessively, some team members could consider themselves losers and try to retaliate. Additionally, it is also possible that team members could become too frustrated to voice their points of view or will no longer even try to participate (Fisher, et al., 1991). If this strategy is under used, one may be perceived as lacking assertiveness or be seen as being vulnerable. Explore The Explore strategy is used when team members or other teams develop and investigate new ideas together. This approach produces a high level of satisfaction since the group feels a large amount of pride in ownership and accomplishment by all their needs being met (Miles Mangold, 2002). The Explore strategy is also beneficial because solutions are discovered that had not been previously considered by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My position comes from hearing about it, having seeing results from it, and reading about it, also developing my own thoughts about addiction. Weil and Rosen (1993) believe that a drug use (and addiction) results from humans longing for a sense of completeness and wholeness, and searching for satisfaction outside of themselves. McNeece and DiNitto (2012) says the reason why people continue to use drugs to the point of becoming a physically and/ or psychologically dependent on them are more complex, some have tried to explain this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the legacy of treating alcoholism and drug addiction as sin or moral weakness continues to influence public policies regarding alcohol and drug abuse (McNeece DiNitto, 2012). Competing Views The model appeals to our common sense because it is consistent with liberal views. In a liberal society, free will and individual autonomy are highly emphasized and valued ideals (Wilbanks, 1989). Addicts are conceived as free willed individuals making rational choices and the reason they engage in drug use is because they have bad morals. However, individuals with good morals are just likely to use drugs such as alcohol or marijuana. If this is the case other factors are present. In the face of reality, the moral model is insufficient to capture the phenomenon of drug addiction (Wilbanks, 1989). The Disease Model The disease model of addiction rests on three primary assumptions predisposition to use a drug, loss of control over use, and progression (Krivanek, 1988, p.202). These physiological alterations cause an undeniable desire to take more drugs (McNeece DiNitto, 2012). Addicts are viewed as individuals with an incurable disease with drug addiction as the symptom. The disease model argues users cannot be held accountable for their addictions (Kirvanek, 1988). Competing Views As the disease model argues that there is no cure for addiction, the only treatments available aims to reduce or suppress the urge to use drugs (McNeece DiNitto, 2012).
