Textual Analysis Of Dance Performance
On Tuesday October 21, 2015, our Introduction to Modern class went to Harrisburg Area Community
College to watch the Rioult Dance NY perform four dance pieces using musical works of founder,
Pascal Rioult, in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center. The duration of the program was 7:30 9 p.m.
The particular piece that I found the most captivating was City choreographed by Pascal Rioult and
performed by Catherine Cooch, Corinna Lee Nicholson, Michael Spencer Phillips, and Sabatino A.
Verlezza. This piece displayed both the physical and the mental struggles of each of the four
individuals in a city like environment. The piece began with a distinct backdrop that showed a crowd
of people walking through a busy street with cacophonic sounds of the people. The discord voices ...

Although it was difficult at times to observe each moment due to the location of our seating, I still saw
a little bit of Nicholson s solo in right corner of the stage. She suspended her legs and toes, with a slow
and strong articulation of the feet, and dramatically fell to the ground. Similarly, Cooch suspended her
arms forward towards the audience, while doing a demi plié and diminutively curving her spine, and
gave a merciful gaze as if she was asking for help. Additionally, one of the male dancers in the vest
suspended his right arm forward, fell forward towards downstage and catches himself. In addition to
the suspension and the fall movements, the sharp and the angular movements were also prevalent in
this piece. Throughout specific parts of the piece, while one dancer danced his or her solo, the others
would move and walk downstage and then upstage very angularly in unison, with their feet flexed;
almost as if they were robots. I interpreted this as if they were living machines that were the products
of the consumer and materialistic culture in the

The Importance Of Peace In John KnowlesA Separate Peace
In John Knowles A Separate Peace, Gene and Finny, best friends, have two more years of innocence
before they have to fight in the brutal war enveloping the world. In their free time, they do foolish
things, like jumping off trees and playing dangerous games. But in the back of their minds, they know
that in a couple years, they are off to fight, like the seniors they know. Consequently, the prestigious
Devon School will start training the two young boys for their near future. The war going on impacts
the book in many ways such as marking the end of Gene and Finny s childhood, discussing the lives
of the seniors, and developing the boys carefree summer. The summer of 1942 signified the last
summer of Gene and Finny s childhood. Since they are going off to war the next year, they decided to
take advantage of their last summer. Gene explains, We spent that summer in complete selfishness, I
m happy to say. The people in the world who could be selfish in the summer of 1942 were a small
band, and I m glad we took advantage of it. (Knowles 30) They are allowed to be selfish because next
summer they know they won t have the same opportunity as they do now, so they are spending it the
best they can. Also, When Finny was reading the newspaper he found a section about the war. He told
Gene, I was reading in the paper that we bombed central Europe for the first time the other day.
(Knowles 25) That supports the thought that the boys might be the ones bombing Europe next year,

Elizabeth s Mother-Personal Narrative
It is a beautiful day with a nice cool breeze. There are kids outside playing in the park. You can hear
cars in the distance. There is a small house on a hill where Elisabeth lives with her mother. Elizabeth
has long brown hair and hazel eyes. She looks a lot like her mother. Her life had been just about
perfect until now. Elizabeth is one day away from turning 15. She is really nervous. She has lived with
her mother so long now, just the two of them. All of the fun memory s they have had together could
just disappear without her house and her mother. Leaving would be so hard.
When someone turns 15 in Elisabeth s unjust society, they must move away from their parents and
move into their own pre selected house. Each person gets to pick the color ... Show more content on

It s not fair! Elisabeth said before she left her mother Why can t I come back and visit you?
Her mother responded You know the rules. I am upset too, but you can t come here again . Elizabeth
gets in the car and leaves to her new home as Elisabeth drives away she holds in her tears. Her mother
stays sobbing, watching her leave. This could be the last time they ever see each other again.
Elisabeth gets her own house, a nice small blue house that has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a small
kitchen and a small living room. This is perfect for Elisabeth except for now she just lives there alone.
The air tastes sweet, she lives next to the ocean! She goes into her front yard and meets her new

The Death Of Willie Closed
Willie closed his eyes and prepared to feel the pain, but it didn t come. He opened his eyes and saw a
boy about his size, wrestling Archie, and winning! Then another person stepped in front of him and
punched him in the eye, nose, then stomach. He also kicked him in both shins. You called him here to
attack us! I didn t! Willie said desperately, trying to breath. Willie could feel the blood flowing from
his nose, and down his face. Then, with all the strength he had left, and kicked the kid in the stomach.
Your gonna pay for that! yelled the kid. He grabbed Willie around the waist and carried him to where
the gang hung out. There, they tied Willie to a chair and left.

After he had not come home after seven pm, she started to really worry about him. So she got her coat
and began to walk the streets calling his name. She had passed the Clancy place but did not even
glance at it, and walked away from it. Meanwhile, in the house, Willie was looking all around, trying
to find a way out of the circle. Finally, one of them lunged at Willie and tackled him to the ground. He
held him there and Jimmy walked over. He leaned over Willie and gave a cruel smile. Looks like you
just got yourself into some more trouble didn t ya? He grabbed Willie by the front of his shirt and
dragged him to the chair again. They tied him there and made him eat liver and onions and baby food.
After a while, Willie felt like he could barf at any moment. They had left him again. At least my

Equal Opportunity Laws Title Vii Essay
Equal Opportunity Laws Title VII The first aspect of Human Resource that will be addressed is equal
opportunity and the laws that go along with it. There were several equal opportunity laws enacted
from 1964 to 1991. 2 The first of these was Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act which states that an
employer cannot discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national original with respect
to employment (Dessler, 2013). 3 Title VII applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including
state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and to labor organizations, as well
as to the federal government. 4 Title VII also prohibits employment decisions based on stereotypes
and assumptions about abilities, traits, or the performance of individuals of certain racial groups.
According to Society for Human Resource Management, it states that, possible criminal practices
include soliciting applications only from sources in which all or most potential workers are of the
same race or color; requiring applicants to have a certain educational background that is not important
for job performance or business needs; 5 and testing applicants for knowledge, skills or abilities that
are not important for job performance or business needs (Society for Human Resource Management,
1969).This Act also prohibits offensive conduct, such as racial or ethnic slurs, racial jokes, 6

The Effects Of Making Your Child A Latchkey Kid
Each day children across America go to school; education not only being a requirement, but a
necessity of life. Yet when the school bell rings every afternoon, over four million children ages five
to fourteen go home to no parental guardian (Olsen). These children are called latchkey kids;
terminology first used in the 1940s during World War II, when women had to work because their
husbands were deployed. Latchkey meaning the key to the house is often strung around the child s
neck or hidden under a mat near the door. Even though this seemed to be a required thing at the time,
there are many negative effects of making your child a latchkey kid. Children who are left alone after
school, classified as latchkey kids, are more susceptible to violent behavior, unsafe environments, and
unreasonable responsibilities. Many children who go home to an empty house do not have any
structure until their parent or guardian arrives. The afternoon hours after school were the peak of
juvenile crime and these [latchkey] kids are the cause of it. . . In the last 11 years, juvenile crime has
increased forty eight percent (Alston). Many of these children will play videogames when they go
home, being influenced by violence and actions of the characters in the game. Not only do
videogames portray violent activity, television shows include criminals who can have influences on
children s actions and what they consider to be right. If a child has an older sibling who is required to

Major Themes In The Fifth Wave By Rick Yancey
The Fifth Wave Theme Essay
The author of the The 5th Wave, Rick Yancey, had several prominent themes. Three were most vital;
first, war cannot change who a person really is at their core, second, people are defined by the choices
they make, and third, family is worth living for. These are the best and most important motifs of The
5th Wave. The first theme, war cannot change who a person really is at their core, recurs during
several incidences which reinstates the significance. For example, Ben tries to make Ringer smile
despite being in the midst of the end of the world. When Cassie and Sammy reunite, he goes back to
his five year old self despite his being in boot camp for months prior, and lastly, Cassie and Evan flirt

Finally, Cassie had little to no human contact before she was shot in the leg and saved by Evan Walker
but she still did not hesitate to kiss him, cuddle, fight, or anything that a normal couple would do.
After fighting with each other, Evan Walker kisses me. Holding my hand against his chest, his other
hand sliding across my neck... Despite Cassie being shot in the leg by an unknown shooter, aliens
trying to take over the Earth, her brother being taken, and her family being dead, she is still a teenage
girl who enjoys male interaction.
An additional theme heavily shown throughout the book is people are defined by the choices they
make . Ben left his little sister, Sissy, to die, even though he could have made an effort to save her;
because he left her, he now vows not to run from danger or those things which scare him.
Furthermore, Cassie promises Sammy that she will find him and, because she makes that promise, she
will stop at nothing to be with him again.
At the beginning of the arrival, Ben and his family stayed at their house. One night, there are gunshots
and screams heard coming from their neighbors house; Ben s mother demands them to blow out the
candles which lit the rooms and his father told Ben that If anything happens to me, take care of your
mother and baby sister, (Page 117). After that, the door crashes open and Ben s father shoots the male
intruder to no avail his father is then shot in the face and Ben

Education And The Current System Of Teaching
In the history of education, there are many events and people which one could say are the most
important in the development of the current systems of teaching. Here, I have put together a summary
of five such monumental events and influential people which I consider the most important regarding
schooling and education in the U.S.. Starting with the first establishment of higher education in the
U.S., Harvard University, and the first public library, set up in 1698 in South Carolina, and the
evolution controversy, which has been ongoing since 1925, and significant figures including John
Locke, and Christian von Wolff, the following text describes their importance to the current workings
of public school systems in the U.S..
The Massachusetts Bay Colony is responsible for putting into place the first institute of higher
education in the U.S., beginning with nine students in 1836 (History | Harvard University). I believe
this to be an important step in the educational history of the U.S. because today, we have many post
secondary institutions, and the normalization of such education is important. It is evident that it is
being normalized, as Harvard University started with only nine students and nowadays has more than
20,000 students aiming for a degree (History | Harvard University). In 1690, John Locke, a
philosopher and political theorist, as well as a teacher at the University of Oxford, published an essay
titled the Essay Concerning Human Understanding (Connolly). In it,

Girls Are A Problem By Catalina Lobo-Guerrero
In El Salvador, Girls are a Problem
I don t want to go back to El Salvador, I felt afraid as a women there more than in any other country in
Latin America. This is how the author, Catalina Lobo Guerrero, begins her article. We can already tell
she is not a fan of El Salvador, and after reading what she had to say about it, it is understandable.
Women in El Salvador are considered a problem. They are raped and killed, but somehow they are the
issue. El Salvador is listed among the world s deadliest countries for women. The article states that in
2016 alone, 524 women were killed. These are only the bodies that are recovered and brought to the
morgue. There are countless others that are found in dumping grounds, but are not recovered. The ...

She talks to a specialist, Dr. Mendez who has had to deal with many women who have been raped and
left pregnant. Since abortion is illegal in El Salvador it is difficult for Dr. Mendez to turn away the
women who were raped. Dr. Mendez stated that she was once threatened with jail time because she
wanted to help a woman whose emergency contraception did not work after she was raped. She was
told not to get involved or she would be put behind bars. The author tells of another story which
involves a 19 year old girl who gave birth outside the hospital. Her baby did not survive so she was
convicted of aggravated homicide. The punishment is a 30 year prison sentence. It is sad to think that
a doctor trying to help a poor woman who is pregnant, not by choice, will be put behind bars, but not
the man who left her that way.
There should be a simple solution to the violence against women in El Salvador; if they all flee the
country then they will not have to experience any harm. That would be a solution, but packing up and
leaving your home is more difficult than it may seem. Sure, they would be away from all the terrifying
crimes, but they would no longer see their family and friends. It would be extremely difficult to leave
the country where you have spent your whole life. Women who leave are just courageous as those who
stay. It is a difficult decision leaving, but it is also a difficult decision

Themes In The Decline Of The West
The Decline of the West
Financial crises affect the lives of millions of people all over the world. Although many families try
their best to continue living their lives like nothing happened, recessions can have a serious effect on
their day to day interactions, as well as their daily lives. In the short story The Decline of the West
written by Hanif Kureishi and published in Collected Stories in 2010, Mike and his family represents a
normal family whom have fallen victims to the 2008 financial crisis. Mike and his family lives in a
materialistic world in the modern western capitalistic society, to which they ve lost important family
values such as love, trust and respect for each other. The short story questions, which values are the

At one point in the story, all lights suddenly went out and all sound were suspended. Mike goes down
to the basement to try and fix this, but at the staircase, he slips and loses his footing. For a second he
believed he was crashing onto his back and would break his neck. And for merely a short moment he
thought: How easy it was to fall, and how tempting it was suddenly would be best to die! But just in
time, he grabs the railing and steadies himself. Down in the basement, he s surrounded by paint cans,
broken toys, discarded purchases and bags of credit card receipts. He is surrounded by materialism
and realizes, that he is not satisfied with all of this. He realizes how his family has fallen victim to the
capitalistic and materialistic mind set shared by millions of people in the west. It was in the moment
where the world was dark, that Mike had his enlightenment the moment where he was away from any
interruption from society. Suddenly, the lights appear once more, and the material world comes back
to life full force, and everything continues as though nothing has changed. In a capitalistic society, you
must work your way up the ladder, and as soon as the fame and money takes over, you risk falling.
This is what happens to Mike, he spends a lot more money than he has, and his world

Article Reflection Essay
When I first became concerned with what was going on in the world, I always turned to the News
Channel or a documentary to update me on that day s current event. I never opened a newspaper,
magazine, book etc. because I felt it was less time consuming, more intriguing and simpler to
understand if I listened to the story being spoken rather than reading it. Due to this class and our
weekly article assignments, I realized it is much more stimulating to open up a newspaper or print out
an article to read rather than watch a television screen to inform me on what is going on in the world.
Not only did this class help me appreciate reading more, but it also taught me the real meaning behind
key terms and cases that can help me make better use of the article I am reading rather than trying to
understand what the story is. I truly believe these article assignments caused a major positive impact
on my reading abilities, understanding and use of the context and all around better knowledge on what
is going on regarding current events. Since I was a child, I was never big on reading because my mind
would wander off to different places and I would lose track of my reading. When Professor Varner
announced to the class about the weekly article assignments it really did not sound all that captivating
to me. I did not look forward to these assignments because I knew I had to actually read an article and
understand the issue, even though this was extremely easy going and not time consuming

Side Effects Of Stroke
Stroke can be a devastating medical condition of the brain and body. This common form of
cerebrovascular disease can manifest in different ways, and can cause quite a few adverse side effects.
The onset of a stroke can take years to develop or can come on very quickly without warning.
A stroke is the loss of some or all of the blood supply to the brain that causes the brain s functionality
to be hindered or diminished. According to cdc.gov there are about 795,000 stroke victims a year and
130,000 of thoughts victims that died. The risk of having a stroke goes up around the age 65. (stroke

Coagulation necrosis refers to a process in which individual cells die among living neighbor cells
without eliciting an inflammatory response. This type of cell death is attributed to the effects of
physical, chemical, or osmotic damage to the plasma membrane.
In CN, the cell initially swells, then shrinks and undergoes pyknosis a term used to describe marked
nuclear chromatin condensation. This process evolves over 6 to 12 hours. By 24 hours extensive
chromatolysis occurs resulting in pan necrosis. Astrocytes swell and fragment, myelin sheaths
degenerate. Irreversible cellular injury as demonstrated by eosinophilic cytoplasm and shrunken nuclei
are seen between 8 to 12 hours after arterial occlusion. The morphology of dying cells in coagulation
necrosis is different than that of cell death due to apoptosis. (shah, 2003)
A stroke is a well known and studied disease. There are many causes that are hard to recognize before
the actual event. All though a stroke can cause major problem in the brain and body, it is still a very
manageable condition. With proper nutrition and care you can keep the risk factors under control very

Nores vs. Greek Essay
Nores vs. Greek
Greek mythology and Roman mythology are almost identical. This is an accepted fact, as it is widely
known that the Romans stole the Greek myths. However, it is very interesting to note that the
mythology of the Vikings (Norse) has many similarities with the Greek myths. These myths are, by no
means, identical to the Greek ones (like the Roman ones are), but there are very distinct
commonalities between the two. I see two possible reasons for this besides pure coincidence.
The first has to do with the fact that Norse myths were codified during the Viking era: 780 1070. This
gives the Norsemen many centuries to become exposed to the Greek (or Roman) myths. The Vikings
did travel as far east as the Caspian sea, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gods and goddesses are powerful beings capable of super human powers, but nevertheless are
characters fraught with very human frailties and flaws. In this way they created gods that had
similarities with the common man in the society. This made the gods more tangible and easier to
identify with. I think that this was necessary because they were not yet at the societal maturity level to
have a single god on a cosmic plane. Most of the comparisons will be examining the similarities
between major Greek and Norse gods, as well as creatures, stories and specific symbols which are
featured in the mythologies. Some of the gods do not have direct counterparts (Thor, Athena and
Loki). However, I will provide possible similarities within the respective mythologies.
ASGARD Asgard is sometimes known as Asgarth. It is the realm of the gods and the home of both the
Aesir and Vanir. Is is ruled by Odin, the leader of the Norse deities. It is located in the heavens, but is
connected to earth by a bridge, known as Bifrost, sometimes referred to as a rainbow. There is also a
route from Asgard to the underworld, the domain of Hel. Valhalla, a hall within Asgard, was the palace
for fallen kings, warriors who had died in battle and heroes.
MT. OLYMPUS Mount Olympus was the home of the Greek gods. It was chosen as their home
because of its altitude, for Zeus, the king of the gods, was associated with the sky. Within the
mythology, Mt. Olympus was large, foreboding

Evaluate The Ontological Argument
The ontological argument was thought of by Anselm of Canterbury. It is a priori argument, meaning
that it is based on deductions and self propositions. The main issues concerned with the ontological
argument is that once you have an idea of what God is in your mind, and what kind of being God is,
can you see that it is impossible for God not to exist? Anselm defined God as that than which nothing
greater can be thought . He said that it is logically absurd to think that such a being does not exist once
you have the concept in your mind. If you were to deny the existence of such a being, that would
mean that it would no longer be that than which nothing greater can be thought .
The analytic and synthetic distinctions were developed by Hume ... Show more content on

God is not a finite thing like an Island, God is that than which nothing greater can be thought . God is
the most great you can get, and there can only be one of these beings. There can only be one who is
the greatest that can he thought of. No matter how great the Island may be in our heads, we can always
think of something better than the island. He said an island has no intrinsic maximum .
Personally, I feel that Anselm is correct in this instance. Yes, you can think of something greater than
an Island. That something is God. If you were to compare the island to God, God is much greater.
There is nothing greater than God, at least that the human mind can come up with. We simply just
cannot think of anything greater than God, which makes God that than which nothing greater can be
thought .
Aquinas was another critic who replied to the ontological argument. He said that Anselm s definition
of God is not immediately obvious. He said that God s existence is not self evident to human beings.
He said that Anselm s move from mind to reality was simplistic and a problem. In response to the
ontological argument, Gaunilo and Aquinas shared a view: you cannot just argue from in the mind to
in reality in relation to a being you are thinking

Thesis Statement Of Adam Smith
Xin Rui Adam Smith
Adam Smith is best known for two classic works, which are The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759),
and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776). The work of An Inquiry
into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations is considered as his great work and also is the
first modern work of economics.
Adam Smith proposed that the invisible hand is a very important element in his work. The core of
Smith s thesis was that man s natural tendency toward self interest will result in prosperity for the
world. By giving everyone freedom to produce and exchange the goods as they pleased and open the
markets to competition, people s natural self interest would bring about universal opulence with very

In hopes to pressure the president into declaring war with Spain, a group created the slogan Remember
the Maine, to hell with Spain. The Pulitzer was in need of readers so the staff decided to exploit the
story of the explosion of the Maine in order to advance the number of sales they would receive. Not
only was the story over exaggerated, but photographs were as well (Manning 423). The power that
media possessed began then, and has only increased within the following years. The shock of
September 11 was communal to all those in the United States. No one specific individual could have
assumed that a disastrous event like the crashing of the twin towers would have transpired. With the

nation this event was so catastrophic that cities and corporations shut down. New York, Washington,

so astonishing to the nation that Wall Street and the Stock Market even shut down for several days.

Chromosomal Abnormalities And Single Gene Disorders
Chromosomal abnormalities and single gene disorders are major causes of different complicated
human diseases including cancer (Grade, Difilippantonie, and Camps, 2015). Identification of
chromosomal abnormalities and single gene defects is crucial step in diagnosis and treatment of
various diseases. Currently, clinical laboratories are applying different types of molecular diagnostics
methods to detect chromosomal abnormalities and single gene disorders (Mahdieh and Rabbani,
2013).
Chromosomal Abnormalities and Molecular Methods
Chromosomal abnormalities caused by errors at the number of chromosomal pairing and structural
damages during cell division (Mahdieh and Rabbani, 2013). Examples of these abnormalities are
duplication, inversion, insertion, deletion, and translocation, ring shaped chromosome, and breakage
of part of chromosome structure (Mahdieh and Rabbani, 2013).
Molecular diagnostic analysis of chromosomal abnormalities developed dramatically from time to
time. Chromosome analysis started from simple karyotyping and developed to sophisticated and high
productive molecular techniques, such as florescence in situ hybridization (FISH), comparative
genomic hybridization (CGH), and next generation sequencing (NGS) (Grade et.al, 2015).
Karyotyping is time consuming and limited to the analysis of single patient s sample at a time (Grade
et.al, 2015). This test method needs cell culturing to prepare chromosomes for analysis. Culturing

Impact Of Biodiversity On The Extinction Of Plant And...
Review of Literature
Issue:
The rapid increase in the extinction rate of plant and animal species has proven to be a massive issue
regarding biodiversity loss.
Anil Markandya, from the Basque center for Climate Change and author of The Economic Feedbacks
of Loss of Biodiversity and Ecosystems Services says,
Globally, terrestrial biodiversity is projected to decrease by a further 10% by 2050. As with
biodiversity, the planet has also experienced major losses in the services derived from ecosystems.
During the last century, for example, the planet has lost 50% of its wetlands, 40% of its forests and
35% of its mangroves. Around 60% of global ecosystem services have been degraded in just 50 years.
This loss of Biodiversity is a phenomenon that has currently been under scrutiny. Markandya states
The topic of biodiversity loss has been the subject of a vast and growing scientific and economic
literature. Species are estimated to be going extinct at rates 100 to 1000 times faster than in geological
times. Malcolm McCallum, author of Vertebrate Biodiversity Losses Point to a Sixth Mass Extinction
brings the grim figures to light,
The human race faces many global to local challenges in the near future. Among these are massive
biodiversity losses. The 2012 IUCN/SSC Red List reported evaluations of ~56 % of all vertebrates.
This included 97 % of amphibians, mammals, birds, cartilaginous fishes, and hagfishes. It also
contained evaluations of ~50 % of lampreys, ~38 % of

Movies Falling Under The Romance And Drama Genre, Often
Movies falling under the romance and drama genre, often have a predictable plot of usually two
people falling in love along with some drama that could lead to a very intriguing film. Director Ross
Katz, took the novel The Choice, written by Nicholas Sparks, and casted the novel into a film where a
large variety of cinematography techniques are used to get different perspectives on the film.
Cinematographer Alar Kivilo and director Ross Katz use different cinematic points of view, color, and
camera movement to show how true love can be found by two people. Cinematic points of view have
four subsections, objective, subjective, indirective and directors interpretive. The different categories
of cinematic points of view determine how the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Choice, the objective point of view is being used when Travis takes Gabby and his other four
friends on a boat ride to the middle of the lake. The camera is being placed alongside the boat so the
viewers can watch what the friends are undertaking. In some of the scene, we can see the whole boat
while Travis is driving and the rest of the friends are relaxing. The women are laying out on the front
end of the boat with their hair flying from the wind and the men are sitting near the back of the boat
talking to Travis and conversing. It would be most logical for this scene to be objective because then
we can see what is going on at once and still feel as if we there enjoying time with them in the sun and
feeling the fresh air from the boat ride. The objective point of view is mainly used the most throughout
the film.
In another particular scene, Gabby and Travis are having a candle lit, romantic supper together. The
camera is placed at the end of the table, angling up in a way so we can see the food, plates, silverware,
and cups sitting on the table. Gabby and Travis are sitting at the same physical level so the camera can
capture both of their faces while they are looking at each other. With the camera angling up it makes
us feel as if Gabby and Travis are even closer now as they were before because they are getting more
comfortable around each other. After their romantic supper, they both do dishes and proceed to start
vigorously grabbing one

Trust In Finding Forrester
In the movie Finding Forrester The main concept that was portrayed was the idea of trust. It becomes
a building block for the friendship that developed between Forrester and Jamal. As the film
progresses, we start to see how this concept of trust starts to develop between other characters as well,
illustrating the theme of how as the friendship grows, so does the trust and respect for each other.
When we first get introduced to William Forrester, we see him as a strange man who lives in a poor
shape apartment in the Bronx, isolating himself from the world around him. After he meets with Jamal
Wallace a young talented writer, we start to see this concept of trust rising to the surface and later form
a very close relationship between them.

The Ethics Of Eating Meat
Since the time of caveman to the modern day society, humans have always eaten meat as a part of
daily life, As far back as it can be traced...Our ancestry is among the hunter/gatherers from the
beginning. Once domestication of food sources began, it included both animals and plants (McArdle).
Although these modern times that we live in have created new substances and ways to replace the
natural way to eat meat, people will always have reason to go back to the original way to get the basic
nutrition of meat. Human beings should support the basic idea that eating meat is ethical because
human bodies were created to be omnivore, people have evolved to manipulate animals in an
intelligent manner, and there are several alternative and ethical ways of eating meat.
The traits that the human body consist of are meant for more natural foods to be ingested, which are
both both meats and vegetables, making humans omnivores. The teeth and digestive tract that
individuals were provided with are meant to break down animal and plant based foods to provide
nutrients to the rest of the body to keep it running (McArdle). People were meant to eat meat in the
first place, it cannot be considered unethical, because it is a part of the natural way of life. For
example, when a lion hunts its prey to provide dinner for its cub and mate, it is not considered
unethical, it is a part of the lion s daily life. The lion going after the prey as a source of food is its way
of survival, and is not

How The Roaring 1920 s
The 1920s has been often been referred as the New Society. They are stronger. They are rich. They
hire and fire the politician, the old judges...the college president (1) was what Dos Passos s said about
the people in the 1920s. The roaring twenty has flappers which just meant young, confident, sexual
women. This was all new for the people in the 1920 because they have always thought of the women
following rules and staying home. Another term that was during the roaring twenty was speakeasies
which is just nightclubs that sold liquor. Liquor at this time was legal and unwanted. A lot of
companies such as Henry Ford s company forbid having alcohol in work area.
Sadly, not everyone in this era welcomed the new secular, commercial culture (9). Some people feared
and resented that this new culture would bring down the lax moral standards. During the roaring
twenty there were many profound tension between the rural and urban life (10). Many citizens were
confused about the traditional and modern Christianity. This was confusing for many people being

Canadian Tire Case Essay
Michael Eubanks of Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC) is in charge of the implementation of a
business intelligence (BI) system for the company. This implementation began in 2003 and was to be
completed in 2005. In 2006, the project is only in the 2nd of 3 phases. He is now faced with a
problem. The implementation is going much slower than he anticipated. His goal is to implement BI
as soon as possible, so what does he need to do so that he can reach this goal?
In order to reach his goal, there are many issues that need to be addressed. The first issue is that in
order to ensure that the data in the data warehouse is correct, there needs to be strong data governance
by all users. The 2nd concern is that users of the current systems will not ... Show more content on

He would anticipate any issues that could arise in along the process. He will then assign business
partners and specific resolutions to each potential issue so that if one of these problems occurs, there is
already a plan in place to resolve it. This is a more proactive approach to the BI implementation. The
only drawback here would be that there would need to be business partners available to tackle these
problems. They would need to be taken away from their day to day responsibilities without any notice.
This could result in business interruption, if a backup is not assigned.
Another option is to decide which type of Master Data Management (MDM) initiative to use. They
can use the Analytical MDM, Operational MDM or Enterprise MDM. The Analytical option addresses
BI only. The Operational option addresses the business operations. Enterprise addresses both. The
Analytical option is the least intrusive and most straight forward to implement, whereas the Enterprise
option is very complex and time consuming.
I would recommend that CTC use the third option which is to decide on a type of MDM initiative to
use. Specifically, I would recommend the Analytical MDM approach. It seems to me that the main
focus of the implementation is Business Intelligence; as such the Analytical approach is the most
appropriate. It is the most commonly adopted approach and the most simple of the three. Since their
goal is to implement BI as soon as possible, they should use the

Plato s Symposium, Sequential Speeches Praise The God Of...
In Plato s Symposium, sequential speeches praise the god of Love, but they stray from truth until
Diotima s speech provides a permanent form in which love neither waxes nor wanes (Sym. 211A).
Through the speeches, love shifts from identifying with the concrete to the abstract, but still ultimately
advances goals of present: Phaedrus sees love as helping men gain virtue, Aristophanes as only a
promise to restore humans to their original nature and Pausanias and Eryximachus have to use two
changing notions of love (Sym. 180B, 193D). In contrast, Diotima relates love as the closest humans
can come to immorality, a future goal motivating us to seek completeness and an uninhibited
timelessness. She uses this shift to explain love s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
211A). Diotima continues to rise towards abstract concepts as she attempts to explain love s purpose.
This contrasts both Phaedrus and Aristophanes descriptions of love. She broadly states that a lover
does not seek the half or whole unless it is good because people will even amputate, or separate, part
of their own body if diseased (Sym. 205E). Aristophanes argues love is the name for our pursuit of
wholeness but Diotima explains this cannot be true if the other half is bad, even if it seems to bring
wholeness, such as bodies with a temporary veneer of beauty (Sym. 192E). So, love must be explained
by separating it to an upwards trajectory, rising towards the concept of good. Otherwise love is only an
impermanent promise (Sym. 193D). Therefore, Aristophanes lack of separation from the concrete
cause love to come from incompleteness and a fallen condition (Dutton Lecture). Likewise, Phaedrus
speech lacks a removal from the present and therefore fails to explain love s effects, as seen in his
Achilles and Patroclus example. To Phaedrus, Achilles still dying after Patroclus passes is love, for no
one will die for you but a lover (Sym. 179B). But, Diotima claims this love is unhealthy as it fails to
represent the abstract notion of beauty. Since beauty is something to be indirectly experienced, it is
unmeasurable and instead preserves

Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy
Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy disease (MNGIE) is an extremely rare disease
that affects the process of muscles and shows up in equal numbers of men and women. Only 70 cases
of this disease have been reported. A mutation of the thymidine phosphorylase causes MNGIE and
lowers the production of adenosine triphosphate production. To begin, mitochondrial
neurogastrointestinal encephalopathy disease is related to adenosine triphosphate because it lowers the
production. In a case report on Hindawi called Anesthetic Management of a Child with Mitochondrial
Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy it states, These mutations can result in a decrease in ATP
production via oxidative phosphorylation in the respiratory chain found in the mitochondria, affecting
tissues that have high energy demands including cardiac, nervous, and skeletal muscle tissue. An
enzyme called thymidine phosphorylase, mutates affecting how ATP is made. As a result, it affects the
muscle cells of the organism because people with this disorder do not have enough energy to move
their muscles in their body. Also, in Genetic Home Reference that had the topic of MNGIE, it reads ...
the muscles and nerves of the digestive system do not move food through the digestive tract
efficiently. The resulting digestive problems include feelings of fullness (satiety)

The Human Skeletal System
The typical human skeleton consists of 206 bones in adults. More bones are present at birth, which
gradually fuse together as the body matures. The skeleton is divided into two parts. The axial skeleton
includes the bones of the skull, face and spine along with the ribs and breastbone.
The appendicular skeleton includes the bones of the arms, hands, legs, feet and pelvis as well as the
clavicles and shoulder blades. The skeleton serves several vital functions.
1. Shape
The skeleton gives the body its shape, which changes with growth. In addition to determining
characteristics such as height and the size of the hands and feet, stable body shape enables essential
functions. For example, a stable rib cage and spine enable the lungs to fully inflate ... Show more

The strong bones of the spine, pelvis and legs enable people to stand upright, supporting the weight of
the entire body. Body cavities hollow spaces framed by the skeleton hold the internal organs. For
example, the skull holds the brain, the chest cavity houses the heart and lungs, and the abdominal
cavity encases the organs of the digestive, urinary and internal reproductive systems.
3. Movement
The skeletal bones are held together by ligaments, and tendons attach the muscles to the bones of the
skeleton. The muscular and skeletal systems work together as the musculoskeletal system, which
enables body movement and stability. When muscles contract, they pull on bones of the skeleton to
produce movement or hold the bones in a stable position.
The shape of the bones and how they fit together at the joints allows for different types of movement.
For example, the leg bones come together at the knee to form a hinge joint that enables the knee to
bend back and forth. The joining portions of the bones of the hip and shoulder have a much different
shape and form ball and socket joints that allow movement in multiple directions.
4. Protection
The skeleton protects the internal organs from damage by surrounding them with bone. Bone

Examples Of Chivalry In Excalibur
Chivalry in Excalibur
(A critique of Chivalry in Excalibur)
What are the main ideals of chivalry? More importantly, who followed and lived by the code of
chivalry? Knights during the time of King Arthur were notorious for following the ideals of chivalry,
and an honorable knight would follow these ideals till the end of his time. Chivalry is a combination
of Christian and military ideals including: courage, honesty, faith, respect, loyalty and humility. In the
movie Excalibur the life of King Arthur is followed from the days before his conception to the end of
his life. King Uther Pendragon used magic from a sorcerer with immense supernatural powers named
Merlin to change his appearance to look like the Duke; so, that he could sleep with the Duke s wife.
However, Merlin made lustful Uther Pendragon promise that whatever came out of this union would
be his, and Merlin ends up getting Arthur from this union. Arthur grows up as a squire raised by
another family who happen to be knights. Arthur soon finds out that he is going to be the next King of
England and finds out that his father was the great Uther Pendragon. Throughout the movie Excalibur
there are many instances and examples of chivalry in many different scenes. Ultimately, three of my
favorite scenes exhibit instances of chivalry in the movie Excalibur. In the movie Excalibur one of my
favorite scenes is when Arthur shows respect to the knights who are against him in the Civil War he
indirectly caused. Likewise, Arthur is brave and modest to fight in the Civil War amongst his fellow
knights. King Arthur is the great unifier, and he understands that he must show respect to his opposing
force if he wants to gain their loyalty. In the middle of the battle in the Civil War Arthur goes up to the
knight who is the leader of those against him and asks him to knight him since he is not an official
knight yet. The leader of the knights against Arthur had a change of heart and honored that Arthur
demonstrated respect and humility in asking him to knight him. The leader of the knights against
Arthur in the Civil War then drew his sword and knighted King Arthur. The aftermath of this event
resulted in the opposing knights entreating King Arthur to permit them

Prison Has A Huge Problem Within The United States
The United States is the world s leader of incarceration with 2.2 million people in jails and prisons;
having an increase in population rate of 500% over the past thirty years (The Sentencing Project,
2014). Of the 2.2 million individuals in these facilities, over one million are mentally ill persons.
According to the National Institute of Corrections, mentally ill offenders have strained the correctional
system. Since the deinstitutionalization of mentally ill from public hospitals in the 1990s, civilians
with mental health issues are more likely to be free in the community, without any programming and
are more likely to inflict in criminal behavior. The prison population rate for mentally ill offender
makes up more than half the overall population. 78,000 in Federal prison, 705,600 in State prisons,
and 479,000 in local jails. Overcrowding prison has become a huge problem within the United States,
which lead to seeking in alternative options. Since there isn t enough space or resources applicable to
provide for all those who are diagnosed with mental issues, a shift to community supervision have
taken place; probation and parole being the greatest form of supervision. The National Institute of
Corrections continues to state how parole and probation are overrepresentation of those who are
mentally ill, with rates two to four times greater than the general population. Even with this being true,

The Importance Of A Successful Firm Is Good Communication
The cornerstone to a successful firm is good communication. Without it, there is confusion,
resentment, and a blurry vision for the direction the company wants to go. In order to ensure there is
successful communication amongst the managers and its employees of the firm, a communication
contract should be created. This contract establishes ethical communication and rules for which each
individual is to follow when communicating with others. Aside from creating excellent
communication within the firm, the communication contract creates long lasting benefits for the firm
and creates a solid foundation.
Other communication strategies may create short term profits but do not have the long lasting benefits
of an ethical communication contract. The communication contract I would propose to the firm I work
for would have six clauses. They would be the immunity clause, the respect clause, the need for
change clause, the switched roles clause, the bottom up clause, and the key focus clause. The
immunity clause stipulates that anything said or brought about is done so without any consequence.
The motivation behind this clause is that too many good suggestions or ideas or constructive criticisms
are held back because employees fear that they will be reprimanded or even lose their job because of
the criticism. With the immunity clause employees can share their true feelings and critiques and that
will be honored rather than rebuked. A companion to the immunity clause is the respect

The Cultural And Social Behavior Of A Society
The cultural means relating to the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a society. Therefore, when
doing world mission we must be able to relate to the culture in which we are ministering to. We are
not to forget who we are as far as culturally, but we are to have the knowledge of that particular
culture. For example, in Chapter 3 in our textbook, it speaks of Patrick, an English slave who escaped
from Ireland and later returned as a missionary. Being that he understood the people and their
language, their issues, and their ways , served as a channel for the people to easily receive from him.
Being able to relate to a group of people, having the knowledge of that particular group, and being
able to understand the group in which you are ministering to is very essential in doing mission work.
You have to be careful how you approach people and when you do be conscious of how you engage
unbelievers. In conclusion, cultural simply refers to relations. On the other hand, this particular
question is referring to the negative fallouts (listed in the text) as results to decisions missionaries have
made overtime. Should those missionaries be representatives of all missionaries? In my opinion, the
spread of Christianity, as I refer to as the period of missionary work, has had a major, positive
influence on the world in many, many ways. Some missionaries may be looked upon as bringing about
negative change and some are looked upon as bringing about positive change. I believe it

This can cause cows to be infected with diseases from the dead animals they ve eaten. Since we re the
ones that are going to be eating the meat from the cow, we re practically eating all the dead animal and

Slaughterhouses contribute to the contamination of the meat because of human error. Contamination
can happen at any time when the cow is going through the process of being taken apart. First, the cows
that go into the slaughterhouse are covered in feces in the feedlots. The workers have to remove the

  • 2. Textual Analysis Of Dance Performance On Tuesday October 21, 2015, our Introduction to Modern class went to Harrisburg Area Community College to watch the Rioult Dance NY perform four dance pieces using musical works of founder, Pascal Rioult, in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center. The duration of the program was 7:30 9 p.m. The particular piece that I found the most captivating was City choreographed by Pascal Rioult and performed by Catherine Cooch, Corinna Lee Nicholson, Michael Spencer Phillips, and Sabatino A. Verlezza. This piece displayed both the physical and the mental struggles of each of the four individuals in a city like environment. The piece began with a distinct backdrop that showed a crowd of people walking through a busy street with cacophonic sounds of the people. The discord voices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it was difficult at times to observe each moment due to the location of our seating, I still saw a little bit of Nicholson s solo in right corner of the stage. She suspended her legs and toes, with a slow and strong articulation of the feet, and dramatically fell to the ground. Similarly, Cooch suspended her arms forward towards the audience, while doing a demi plié and diminutively curving her spine, and gave a merciful gaze as if she was asking for help. Additionally, one of the male dancers in the vest suspended his right arm forward, fell forward towards downstage and catches himself. In addition to the suspension and the fall movements, the sharp and the angular movements were also prevalent in this piece. Throughout specific parts of the piece, while one dancer danced his or her solo, the others would move and walk downstage and then upstage very angularly in unison, with their feet flexed; almost as if they were robots. I interpreted this as if they were living machines that were the products of the consumer and materialistic culture in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Peace In John KnowlesA Separate Peace In John Knowles A Separate Peace, Gene and Finny, best friends, have two more years of innocence before they have to fight in the brutal war enveloping the world. In their free time, they do foolish things, like jumping off trees and playing dangerous games. But in the back of their minds, they know that in a couple years, they are off to fight, like the seniors they know. Consequently, the prestigious Devon School will start training the two young boys for their near future. The war going on impacts the book in many ways such as marking the end of Gene and Finny s childhood, discussing the lives of the seniors, and developing the boys carefree summer. The summer of 1942 signified the last summer of Gene and Finny s childhood. Since they are going off to war the next year, they decided to take advantage of their last summer. Gene explains, We spent that summer in complete selfishness, I m happy to say. The people in the world who could be selfish in the summer of 1942 were a small band, and I m glad we took advantage of it. (Knowles 30) They are allowed to be selfish because next summer they know they won t have the same opportunity as they do now, so they are spending it the best they can. Also, When Finny was reading the newspaper he found a section about the war. He told Gene, I was reading in the paper that we bombed central Europe for the first time the other day. (Knowles 25) That supports the thought that the boys might be the ones bombing Europe next year, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then another person stepped in front of him and punched him in the eye, nose, then stomach. He also kicked him in both shins. You called him here to attack us! I didn t! Willie said desperately, trying to breath. Willie could feel the blood flowing from his nose, and down his face. Then, with all the strength he had left, and kicked the kid in the stomach. Your gonna pay for that! yelled the kid. He grabbed Willie around the waist and carried him to where the gang hung out. There, they tied Willie to a chair and left. The other kids, digesting the command, awkwardly started toward Willie. He was surrounded by the time he could blink twice. Willie? Willie! Where are you? Willie s mother called. She had been out all night looking for Willie. After he had not come home after seven pm, she started to really worry about him. So she got her coat and began to walk the streets calling his name. She had passed the Clancy place but did not even glance at it, and walked away from it. Meanwhile, in the house, Willie was looking all around, trying to find a way out of the circle. Finally, one of them lunged at Willie and tackled him to the ground. He held him there and Jimmy walked over. He leaned over Willie and gave a cruel smile. Looks like you just got yourself into some more trouble didn t ya? He grabbed Willie by the front of his shirt and dragged him to the chair again. They tied him there and made him eat liver and onions and baby food. After a while, Willie felt like he could barf at any moment. They had left him again. At least my stomach is full. thought Willie. • 6. Equal Opportunity Laws Title Vii Essay Equal Opportunity Laws Title VII The first aspect of Human Resource that will be addressed is equal opportunity and the laws that go along with it. There were several equal opportunity laws enacted from 1964 to 1991. 2 The first of these was Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act which states that an employer cannot discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national original with respect to employment (Dessler, 2013). 3 Title VII applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and to labor organizations, as well as to the federal government. 4 Title VII also prohibits employment decisions based on stereotypes and assumptions about abilities, traits, or the performance of individuals of certain racial groups. According to Society for Human Resource Management, it states that, possible criminal practices include soliciting applications only from sources in which all or most potential workers are of the same race or color; requiring applicants to have a certain educational background that is not important for job performance or business needs; 5 and testing applicants for knowledge, skills or abilities that are not important for job performance or business needs (Society for Human Resource Management, 1969).This Act also prohibits offensive conduct, such as racial or ethnic slurs, racial jokes, 6 derogatory comments, or other verbal or physical conduct based on an individual s ... • 7. The Effects Of Making Your Child A Latchkey Kid Each day children across America go to school; education not only being a requirement, but a necessity of life. Yet when the school bell rings every afternoon, over four million children ages five to fourteen go home to no parental guardian (Olsen). These children are called latchkey kids; terminology first used in the 1940s during World War II, when women had to work because their husbands were deployed. Latchkey meaning the key to the house is often strung around the child s neck or hidden under a mat near the door. Even though this seemed to be a required thing at the time, there are many negative effects of making your child a latchkey kid. Children who are left alone after school, classified as latchkey kids, are more susceptible to violent behavior, unsafe environments, and unreasonable responsibilities. Many children who go home to an empty house do not have any structure until their parent or guardian arrives. The afternoon hours after school were the peak of juvenile crime and these [latchkey] kids are the cause of it. . . In the last 11 years, juvenile crime has increased forty eight percent (Alston). Many of these children will play videogames when they go home, being influenced by violence and actions of the characters in the game. Not only do videogames portray violent activity, television shows include criminals who can have influences on children s actions and what they consider to be right. If a child has an older sibling who is required to take care of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Major Themes In The Fifth Wave By Rick Yancey The Fifth Wave Theme Essay The author of the The 5th Wave, Rick Yancey, had several prominent themes. Three were most vital; first, war cannot change who a person really is at their core, second, people are defined by the choices they make, and third, family is worth living for. These are the best and most important motifs of The 5th Wave. The first theme, war cannot change who a person really is at their core, recurs during several incidences which reinstates the significance. For example, Ben tries to make Ringer smile despite being in the midst of the end of the world. When Cassie and Sammy reunite, he goes back to his five year old self despite his being in boot camp for months prior, and lastly, Cassie and Evan flirt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, Cassie had little to no human contact before she was shot in the leg and saved by Evan Walker but she still did not hesitate to kiss him, cuddle, fight, or anything that a normal couple would do. After fighting with each other, Evan Walker kisses me. Holding my hand against his chest, his other hand sliding across my neck... Despite Cassie being shot in the leg by an unknown shooter, aliens trying to take over the Earth, her brother being taken, and her family being dead, she is still a teenage girl who enjoys male interaction. An additional theme heavily shown throughout the book is people are defined by the choices they make . Ben left his little sister, Sissy, to die, even though he could have made an effort to save her; because he left her, he now vows not to run from danger or those things which scare him. Furthermore, Cassie promises Sammy that she will find him and, because she makes that promise, she will stop at nothing to be with him again. At the beginning of the arrival, Ben and his family stayed at their house. One night, there are gunshots and screams heard coming from their neighbors house; Ben s mother demands them to blow out the candles which lit the rooms and his father told Ben that If anything happens to me, take care of your mother and baby sister, (Page 117). After that, the door crashes open and Ben s father shoots the male intruder to no avail his father is then shot in the face and Ben ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Education And The Current System Of Teaching In the history of education, there are many events and people which one could say are the most important in the development of the current systems of teaching. Here, I have put together a summary of five such monumental events and influential people which I consider the most important regarding schooling and education in the U.S.. Starting with the first establishment of higher education in the U.S., Harvard University, and the first public library, set up in 1698 in South Carolina, and the evolution controversy, which has been ongoing since 1925, and significant figures including John Locke, and Christian von Wolff, the following text describes their importance to the current workings of public school systems in the U.S.. The Massachusetts Bay Colony is responsible for putting into place the first institute of higher education in the U.S., beginning with nine students in 1836 (History | Harvard University). I believe this to be an important step in the educational history of the U.S. because today, we have many post secondary institutions, and the normalization of such education is important. It is evident that it is being normalized, as Harvard University started with only nine students and nowadays has more than 20,000 students aiming for a degree (History | Harvard University). Girls Are A Problem By Catalina Lobo-Guerrero In El Salvador, Girls are a Problem I don t want to go back to El Salvador, I felt afraid as a women there more than in any other country in Latin America. This is how the author, Catalina Lobo Guerrero, begins her article. We can already tell she is not a fan of El Salvador, and after reading what she had to say about it, it is understandable. Women in El Salvador are considered a problem. They are raped and killed, but somehow they are the issue. El Salvador is listed among the world s deadliest countries for women. The article states that in 2016 alone, 524 women were killed. These are only the bodies that are recovered and brought to the morgue. There are countless others that are found in dumping grounds, but are not recovered. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She talks to a specialist, Dr. Mendez who has had to deal with many women who have been raped and left pregnant. Since abortion is illegal in El Salvador it is difficult for Dr. Mendez to turn away the women who were raped. Dr. Mendez stated that she was once threatened with jail time because she wanted to help a woman whose emergency contraception did not work after she was raped. She was told not to get involved or she would be put behind bars. The author tells of another story which involves a 19 year old girl who gave birth outside the hospital. Her baby did not survive so she was convicted of aggravated homicide. The punishment is a 30 year prison sentence. It is sad to think that a doctor trying to help a poor woman who is pregnant, not by choice, will be put behind bars, but not the man who left her that way. There should be a simple solution to the violence against women in El Salvador; if they all flee the country then they will not have to experience any harm. That would be a solution, but packing up and leaving your home is more difficult than it may seem. Sure, they would be away from all the terrifying crimes, but they would no longer see their family and friends. It would be extremely difficult to leave the country where you have spent your whole life. Women who leave are just courageous as those who stay. I never opened a newspaper, magazine, book etc. because I felt it was less time consuming, more intriguing and simpler to understand if I listened to the story being spoken rather than reading it. Due to this class and our weekly article assignments, I realized it is much more stimulating to open up a newspaper or print out an article to read rather than watch a television screen to inform me on what is going on in the world. Not only did this class help me appreciate reading more, but it also taught me the real meaning behind key terms and cases that can help me make better use of the article I am reading rather than trying to understand what the story is. I truly believe these article assignments caused a major positive impact on my reading abilities, understanding and use of the context and all around better knowledge on what is going on regarding current events. Since I was a child, I was never big on reading because my mind would wander off to different places and I would lose track of my reading. However, it is very interesting to note that the mythology of the Vikings (Norse) has many similarities with the Greek myths. These myths are, by no means, identical to the Greek ones (like the Roman ones are), but there are very distinct commonalities between the two. I see two possible reasons for this besides pure coincidence. The first has to do with the fact that Norse myths were codified during the Viking era: 780 1070. This gives the Norsemen many centuries to become exposed to the Greek (or Roman) myths. The Vikings did travel as far east as the Caspian sea, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this way they created gods that had similarities with the common man in the society. This made the gods more tangible and easier to identify with. I think that this was necessary because they were not yet at the societal maturity level to have a single god on a cosmic plane. Most of the comparisons will be examining the similarities between major Greek and Norse gods, as well as creatures, stories and specific symbols which are featured in the mythologies. Some of the gods do not have direct counterparts (Thor, Athena and Loki). However, I will provide possible similarities within the respective mythologies. ASGARD Asgard is sometimes known as Asgarth. The main issues concerned with the ontological argument is that once you have an idea of what God is in your mind, and what kind of being God is, can you see that it is impossible for God not to exist? Anselm defined God as that than which nothing greater can be thought . He said that it is logically absurd to think that such a being does not exist once you have the concept in your mind. If you were to deny the existence of such a being, that would mean that it would no longer be that than which nothing greater can be thought . There can only be one who is the greatest that can he thought of. No matter how great the Island may be in our heads, we can always think of something better than the island. He said an island has no intrinsic maximum . Personally, I feel that Anselm is correct in this instance. Yes, you can think of something greater than an Island. That something is God. If you were to compare the island to God, God is much greater. There is nothing greater than God, at least that the human mind can come up with. We simply just cannot think of anything greater than God, which makes God that than which nothing greater can be thought . Aquinas was another critic who replied to the ontological argument. He said that Anselm s definition of God is not immediately obvious. He said that God s existence is not self evident to human beings. He said that Anselm s move from mind to reality was simplistic and a problem. In response to the ontological argument, Gaunilo and Aquinas shared a view: you cannot just argue from in the mind to in reality in relation to a being you are thinking ... Anil Markandya, from the Basque center for Climate Change and author of The Economic Feedbacks of Loss of Biodiversity and Ecosystems Services says, Globally, terrestrial biodiversity is projected to decrease by a further 10% by 2050. As with biodiversity, the planet has also experienced major losses in the services derived from ecosystems. During the last century, for example, the planet has lost 50% of its wetlands, 40% of its forests and 35% of its mangroves. Around 60% of global ecosystem services have been degraded in just 50 years. This loss of Biodiversity is a phenomenon that has currently been under scrutiny. Species are estimated to be going extinct at rates 100 to 1000 times faster than in geological times. Malcolm McCallum, author of Vertebrate Biodiversity Losses Point to a Sixth Mass Extinction brings the grim figures to light, The human race faces many global to local challenges in the near future. Although these modern times that we live in have created new substances and ways to replace the natural way to eat meat, people will always have reason to go back to the original way to get the basic nutrition of meat. Through the speeches, love shifts from identifying with the concrete to the abstract, but still ultimately advances goals of present: Phaedrus sees love as helping men gain virtue, Aristophanes as only a promise to restore humans to their original nature and Pausanias and Eryximachus have to use two changing notions of love (Sym. 180B, 193D). This contrasts both Phaedrus and Aristophanes descriptions of love. She broadly states that a lover does not seek the half or whole unless it is good because people will even amputate, or separate, part of their own body if diseased (Sym. 205E). Aristophanes argues love is the name for our pursuit of wholeness but Diotima explains this cannot be true if the other half is bad, even if it seems to bring wholeness, such as bodies with a temporary veneer of beauty (Sym. 192E). So, love must be explained by separating it to an upwards trajectory, rising towards the concept of good. Otherwise love is only an impermanent promise (Sym. 193D). Therefore, Aristophanes lack of separation from the concrete cause love to come from incompleteness and a fallen condition (Dutton Lecture). Likewise, Phaedrus speech lacks a removal from the present and therefore fails to explain love s effects, as seen in his Achilles and Patroclus example. To Phaedrus, Achilles still dying after Patroclus passes is love, for no one will die for you but a lover (Sym. 179B). Zarae Allen Mrs.Willard Honors Biology 1December 2016 Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy disease (MNGIE) is an extremely rare disease that affects the process of muscles and shows up in equal numbers of men and women. Only 70 cases of this disease have been reported. A mutation of the thymidine phosphorylase causes MNGIE and lowers the production of adenosine triphosphate production. To begin, mitochondrial neurogastrointestinal encephalopathy disease is related to adenosine triphosphate because it lowers the production. In a case report on Hindawi called Anesthetic Management of a Child with Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalopathy it states, These mutations can result in a decrease in ATP production via oxidative phosphorylation in the respiratory chain found in the mitochondria, affecting tissues that have high energy demands including cardiac, nervous, and skeletal muscle tissue. An enzyme called thymidine phosphorylase, mutates affecting how ATP is made. As a result, it affects the muscle cells of the organism because people with this disorder do not have enough energy to move their muscles in their body. Arthur soon finds out that he is going to be the next King of England and finds out that his father was the great Uther Pendragon. Throughout the movie Excalibur there are many instances and examples of chivalry in many different scenes. Ultimately, three of my favorite scenes exhibit instances of chivalry in the movie Excalibur. In the movie Excalibur one of my favorite scenes is when Arthur shows respect to the knights who are against him in the Civil War he indirectly caused. Likewise, Arthur is brave and modest to fight in the Civil War amongst his fellow knights. King Arthur is the great unifier, and he understands that he must show respect to his opposing force if he wants to gain their loyalty. In the middle of the battle in the Civil War Arthur goes up to the knight who is the leader of those against him and asks him to knight him since he is not an official knight yet. The leader of the knights against Arthur had a change of heart and honored that Arthur demonstrated respect and humility in asking him to knight him. The leader of the knights against Arthur in the Civil War then drew his sword and knighted King Arthur. The aftermath of this event resulted in the opposing knights entreating King Arthur to permit them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Prison Has A Huge Problem Within The United States The United States is the world s leader of incarceration with 2.2 million people in jails and prisons; having an increase in population rate of 500% over the past thirty years (The Sentencing Project, 2014). Of the 2.2 million individuals in these facilities, over one million are mentally ill persons. According to the National Institute of Corrections, mentally ill offenders have strained the correctional system. Since the deinstitutionalization of mentally ill from public hospitals in the 1990s, civilians with mental health issues are more likely to be free in the community, without any programming and are more likely to inflict in criminal behavior. The prison population rate for mentally ill offender makes up more than half the overall population. 78,000 in Federal prison, 705,600 in State prisons, and 479,000 in local jails. Overcrowding prison has become a huge problem within the United States, which lead to seeking in alternative options. Since there isn t enough space or resources applicable to provide for all those who are diagnosed with mental issues, a shift to community supervision have taken place; probation and parole being the greatest form of supervision. The National Institute of Corrections continues to state how parole and probation are overrepresentation of those who are mentally ill, with rates two to four times greater than the general population. Even with this being true, the combination of the cost of imprisonment, treatment needs and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. An Explanation Of Poe s The Raven I liked reading this poem as it caught my attention. However, I did notice myself becoming confused on some verses. I liked how Poe gave the reader room to use their own imagination within the story. Each reader is responsible for interpreting Poe s words since he does not directly state his thoughts. I thought that the unnamed character in the story was sad because of losing Lenore as the story states From my books surcease of sorrow sorrow for the loss Lenore. The raven tapping at his chamber door is Lenore coming back to see him but in the form of a Raven. The unknown character thinks the raven is an evil demon and will leave like Lenore did. A history of legal prohibition steeped in racism and misunderstanding has only recently given way to rational discussion based on scientific evidence and public health evaluations. Legalizing marijuana would not only be an economic boon for the US and be beneficial for our medical fields, but would also make it safer by introducing regulations and protection for consumers. Marijuana has been used over the years for both recreational and medical purposes. In regards to both, the United States economy has spent billion of dollars annually enforcing the laws of the illegal use of marijuana. Legalizing marijuana would give an important ... • 35. Reflection Of Early Stage Dementia I believe in tolerance, having a little more patience makes a difference. Working in the hospital setting, I come across various people with different attitudes. Some are nice, others very rude you can barely stand them. In most cases, my patients are pleasantly confused. Mrs. Anderson has been on our unit for almost two weeks, and she has an early stage dementia. Her way of getting the attention of the staff and family members is to say I cannot breathe repeatedly for more than five times. Initially, we took the initiative to help her out and make her as much comfortable as possible until her family members gave us the clue to ignore her for a minute or two and she will stop. • 36. The Importance Of A Successful Firm Is Good Communication The cornerstone to a successful firm is good communication. Without it, there is confusion, resentment, and a blurry vision for the direction the company wants to go. In order to ensure there is successful communication amongst the managers and its employees of the firm, a communication contract should be created. This contract establishes ethical communication and rules for which each individual is to follow when communicating with others. Aside from creating excellent communication within the firm, the communication contract creates long lasting benefits for the firm and creates a solid foundation. Other communication strategies may create short term profits but do not have the long lasting benefits of an ethical communication contract. The communication contract I would propose to the firm I work for would have six clauses. They would be the immunity clause, the respect clause, the need for change clause, the switched roles clause, the bottom up clause, and the key focus clause. The immunity clause stipulates that anything said or brought about is done so without any consequence. The motivation behind this clause is that too many good suggestions or ideas or constructive criticisms are held back because employees fear that they will be reprimanded or even lose their job because of the criticism. With the immunity clause employees can share their true feelings and critiques and that will be honored rather than rebuked. A companion to the immunity clause is the respect ... • 38. The Cultural And Social Behavior Of A Society The cultural means relating to the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a society. Therefore, when doing world mission we must be able to relate to the culture in which we are ministering to. We are not to forget who we are as far as culturally, but we are to have the knowledge of that particular culture. For example, in Chapter 3 in our textbook, it speaks of Patrick, an English slave who escaped from Ireland and later returned as a missionary. Being that he understood the people and their language, their issues, and their ways , served as a channel for the people to easily receive from him. Being able to relate to a group of people, having the knowledge of that particular group, and being able to understand the group in which you are ministering to is very essential in doing mission work. You have to be careful how you approach people and when you do be conscious of how you engage unbelievers. In conclusion, cultural simply refers to relations. On the other hand, this particular question is referring to the negative fallouts (listed in the text) as results to decisions missionaries have made overtime. Should those missionaries be representatives of all missionaries? In my opinion, the spread of Christianity, as I refer to as the period of missionary work, has had a major, positive influence on the world in many, many ways. Some missionaries may be looked upon as bringing about negative change and some are looked upon as bringing about positive change. I believe it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Beat The Meat Essay Meat, everyone loves meat. Well, except for vegetarians. I for one am a meat lover; if you asked me to choose between a healthy salad and an oily heart attack burger, I would go for the burger. I eat fast food once in a while, and I do like the burgers. At times, I would wonder where the meat comes from since it tastes different from burgers that come from actual restaurants. Many people other than me eat fast food daily and have become a habit for them. In addition, due to the rise in costumers, fast food industries opened many more restaurants, which led to a higher demand of meat. Due to this high demand for meat, meat industries are starting to use various ways to produce meat quickly. However, speeding up the processes can cause meat ... Since we re the ones that are going to be eating the meat from the cow, we re practically eating all the dead animal and feces that the cow has eaten. In fact, we could get food poisoning or contract diseases. Workers in the Slaughterhouses contribute to the contamination of the meat because of human error. Contamination can happen at any time when the cow is going through the process of being taken apart. First, the cows that go into the slaughterhouse are covered in feces in the feedlots. The workers have to remove the hides carefully to make sure that none of the feces touch the meat. When the Gutters in the slaughterhouses eviscerate the digestive system from a cow, pieces of dirt and manure could mix in with the meat. If the job isn t carried out carefully and precisely, the digestive system could spill all over the place; on the floor, the table, the conveyor belt and the meat. Schlosser said A former IBP gutter told me that it took him six months to learn how to pull out the stomach and tie off the intestines without spillage.
