Radish Project
Garden Thy Radish
This is how my project will go into detail. The supplies will include an 8ft x 5ft garden bed,
radish seeds, shovels, soil, water and a good area to garden and dig. I will plant a radish garden.
In my front yard. I will plant one because we need to help the environment. I will start planting
September 18th 2017. How, digging at a little stop, then making sure the dirt and soil is good, then
start filling it up with soil then by planting the radish seeds. The radish seeds would need to be 1
/4 to 1/2 inch deep, spaced approximately 1 inch apart, in rows 12 to 18 inches apart.
This garden will help the environment by supplying food for other small animals once the garden
is fully grown. Since we are planting it ourself it makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people eat radishes, at my house, so that s another good thing. It is a healthy vegetable.
My health will improve because I will be basically exercising due to gardening and digging. I will
also be out in the hot sun so it will actually make me sweat.
The problems that will occur can be that animals or insects are eating the radishes. The animals
eating it will not let my garden grow to the expected growth it s supposed to be at. Or that the
radishes I forget to water them one day when they re supposed to be watered daily. Another
problem that can occur is if it were to rain, and the rain overly watered them. A problem can occur,
if it gets very cloudy because radishes needs lots of sun. That is just some of the many problems
that can happen during the planting and growing process.
Saftey issues that should be considered during the project is making sure you don t get any
parasites. The safety equipment I will have during the project will be shoes. I will need some
gloves because I really don t want to dirty my hands. Some other things I will need is to make sure
I have proper clothes to dig and get messy! I will get some glasses in case I get dirt or soil in my
eyes. That is some of the many safety issues and safety equipment you will need to complete a

Adult Picky Eating Paper
The research report Adult Picky Eating: Phenomenology, taste sensitivity, and psychosocial
correlates, was published in the international research journal, Appetite, by the University of
Pennsylvania. The authors of the report wrote in a very conventional manner or in other words,
adhered to this genre s conventions. The intended audiences of this article are psychologists and
scientists and we know this due to esoteric diction and the organization throughout the paper.
Keywords and phrases such as cognitive symptoms of disordered eating, ARFID, psychopathology
and references to DSM V tell us this article is geared to more specifically psychologists. The
article is written in the scientific method format and includes data written in scientific notation and
key terms like chi square analyses, p values, and the golden ratio symbol. Unintended audiences
could be people interested in the study or anyone who may... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Being published by the CPS assures the reader that the source is credible and information is valid.
The genre of this article would be academic nutrition journal. We know the intended audience are
Canadian paediatricians while unintended audiences could be advice seeking parents or anyone
interested in the article. Some instances that imply this article was directed towards Canadians
specifically are the use of the metric system, it notes that you can find the french version of the
study on a different page of the journal, and the obvious fact that this was published by the
Canadian Paediatric Society. Words and phrases like growth rate, children , parental expectations,
and physical examination are associated with pediatrics. The diction of this paper is didactic, or in
other words very instructional. Some keywords that exemplify this are Remind parents, suggest,

Colonial America Pros And Cons
1.The best contributors were Acadia, Grant, Eric, and Keara. Acadia gave a wonderful opening
statement full of convincing facts and thoroughly showed the villainous qualities of Columbus.
Grant had an extensive rebuttal which showed how prepared he was for the debate. Eric made a
great comparison of Columbus slave gold mine and modern day China s overworked and
underpaid employees. Keara gave a passionate closing, which really tore into the other side s
arguments. 2.While both sides did exceedingly well, the con side did just slightly better and
therefore won the debate. The pro side did do a better job creating thoughtful responses and
quoting from sources, but the con side did a few other things better. The con side had the better

Shmuel And Bruno Conflicts
At the beginning of the book Bruno is hates his new home and wishes he could be back in
Germany with his friends. He is very selfish and disobeys his father s orders often. By the end of
the novel Bruno is bringing Shmuel food and notices that he is not in good health. He is also
starting to see his mothers misery. I believe that the more Bruno met with Samuel he became more
aware of what was going to happen to him. I also think that as Bruno got older he became more
knowledgeable and had a better understanding of what was going on at that time in Germany and
other European countries. The main conflict in the book is Shmuel and Bruno trying to be friends.
The two boys have entirely different backgrounds which makes its hard for them to truly

Oppression In Jane Eyre
The Impression of Oppression in Jane Eyre
Jane Eyre by Charlotte BrontГ« depicts the rigid social structure and clear division between the
upper and lower classes of Victorian society, in which wealth and status determined one s beliefs,
career, and treatment from those surrounding them. Those of the upper class did not typically
converse or involve themselves with those viewed as beneath them; however, Jane Eyre fights the
separation between the classes to which she has fallen victim at both Gateshead and Lowood
school. Her refusal to conform to the hierarchy eventually leads to the meddling between the
Victorian era elite and peasant class, as seen through Jane Eyre s romantic relationship with Edward
Rochester, an upperclassman and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Reed family evidently still carries this grudge against Jane s side of the family, as they all
treat her as part of a lower class that is unworthy to live with them or be associated with them in
any way.
The only time that a member of the Reed family speaks to Jane is when they are belittling her,
hoping to further assert their elite dominance over the lower class. In one particular quarrel,
John Reed, the oppressive Roman emperor and slave driver, throws a book at Jane s head to
physically proclaim his dominance over her, to which Jane responds by verbally firing back at
his elitist oppression. (BrontГ« 13) The battle between the social classes concludes with Jane
being banished to the horrifying red room as punishment for attempting to overthrow the elite
power, John Reed, even though John was the clear instigator of the scuffle. Jane is later
condemned by the house servants for her attempt to overthrow her young master. Jane and John
are both children, but due to the wealth and status of his parents, John is allowed to rule over
Jane, making Jane, as the Gateshead servants would describe, less than a servant because she
does nothing for her keep. (BrontГ« 15) Jane continuously faces this maltreatment at Gateshead
until an outburst directed towards Mrs. Reed causes her to be sent away to Lowood school, a
place where Mrs. Reed hopes Jane will perhaps be taught to conform to the societal norm of how a
young girl like Jane should act in

Best Car Seat
How to Buy the Best Car Seat for your Child
One summer in 2016, in Tacoma, Washington, a woman was taking her 5 year old son to school,
coming along for the ride was her 2 year old son. While driving the mother lost control of her car
and swerved into a tree. The car was totaled and the side where her 2 year old was sitting was
completely caved in. Yet amazingly, no one was hurt, and the kids were fine. The 2 year old was
saved by their car seat, which absorbed all the impact of the crash. Had that car seat not been
properly installed, the family would have lost more than a car. The sad thing is scenarios like this
happen every day, car crashes are a reality of life, and sometimes they are your fault, sometimes the
fault of the other driver. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is basically a standardized installation system for car seats. If you see ISOFIX or LATCH on a car
seat, then you know it can easily install into most modern cars. In Canada it will also be known as
UAS (Universal Anchorage System).
The different types of car seat
Infant Car Seats
These are the first types of car seat you will buy for your child. They are designed to work with
newborns who weigh above 4 or 5 pounds, and will work until the baby reaches around 20 pounds.
These will be rear facing car seats.
Convertible Car Seats
These seats are designed to adopt as the child gets older. They start off working for infants (5
pounds to 20 pounds) and then can be converted into forward facing car seats for toddlers (so
basically anywhere from 30 to 40 pounds).
Booster Seats
Booster seats are the last stage of car seat you will need to buy, they are meant for children in the 40
pound to 100 pound range. Most children can stop using booster seats around 8 years old. Taller
children can stop a bit earlier, around 6 or 7 years old.
Combination car seats
These car seats essentially act as 3 in 1 car seat. They can be used as a rear facing car seat for
infants, a forwards facing seat for older kids, and then finally they act as a booster

Good Will Hunting Essay
A studious young man, an open book these two images swirl around the screen in a kaleidoscope
effect, this was the introductory scene of quot;Good Will Hunting. quot; This scene is followed by
Ben Afflick, knocking on Will s door, when Will comes out a credit rolls by that says,
quot;screenplaywritten by Ben Afflick and Matt Damon, quot; just as the two walk side by side.
This shows how perfectly the makers of this movie have everything timed, down to the credits.
Also, the timing shows when the professors assistant and Will are alone and the assistant tells Will
how lucky he is to have someone believe in him as the professor does. Just as he finishes saying
this the professor walks in and suddenly the assistant has something better... Show more content on

When Will is trying to solve a formula he writes his work on his mirror with a dry erase marker.
The camera blurs out will and focuses on the formula and also does the opposite. While writing the
formula out, the shots fade to the same shot but at a different angle creating a feeling that some
time is passing by. Also, to support this feeling each time the formula is showed there is more
added to it than one can write in the brief moment that it took to come back to it with the camera.
Additionally, the benefit of having the scene of him writing on the mirror lets the viewer see
him concentrating on the formula and lets the viewer see the formula being written out which
shows the viewer how intelligent Will must be, since the formula probably made little sense to
him or her. Another effect was a fight scene captured in slow motion. After the fight scene the
cops showed up and many flashes of the scene from different camera angles appeared creating a
feeling of confusion and made it seem speeded up without it being filmed in fast motion. During
this movie many close ups were filmed where the eyes were the only bit of color on the screen.
When Will starts talking to prove a point, which is several times through out the movie, the
camera zooms in on him concentrating on his eyes. However, while Will and his friends were in
the car the camera looks at each one individually from a distance while mellow music is playing

Computer Science In Education Essay
Only 5% of United States high schools teach computer science, the study of the principles and use
of computers, despite its critical importance. Even as the enrollment in science, technology,
engineering, and math classes have increased in the past 20 years, the number of students enrolled
in computer science has actually decreased. This can be attributed to the neglect exhibited by
schools on computer science. In these 20 years, 1 billion computers have been built which makes
computerscience integrated : so baked into human life that it is not surprising to encounter, with
social, technological, and futuristic aspects of the world. Unlike other integrated disciplines such as

Universities are already starting to require computer science classes, but this creates the question:
How should computer science courses be implemented in education before University? An optimal
solution must teach social problem solving skills, increase the functionality of technology, and
provide an understanding of the future. The time at which computer science is introduced must also
be considered to ensure students have enough prior background knowledge in other related
disciplines and a basic understanding of what computer can and cannot do. In order to properly
implement computer science in education, it should be required in high school education and teach
the ubiquitous relationship that computer science has with the social, technological, and futuristic
aspects of the world.
Computer science is bound to have social impacts because of its ubiquitous nature. The most
influential of these impacts is the introduction of computational thinking. Computational Thinking
is a process that generalizes a solution to open ended problems. Open ended problems encourage
full, meaningful answers based on multiple variables, which are derived using abstraction and
automation. When solving open ended problems, computer scientists abstract notions from both the
physical and theoretical worlds. Unlike mathematical notions which only consider theory, computer
science combines both

Federal Enforcement Act Case Study
On Tuesday, February 7, 2017 Senate Bill 10, the Municipal Sanctuary and Federal Enforcement

The Senate Bill, sponsored by Senator Guy Reschenthaler (R Allegheny) was written in an attempt
to bar municipalities from adopting so called sanctuary cities policies that refer to the refusal to
comply with federal detention orders issued by Immigrations and Custom Enforcement.
Moreover, SB 10 proposes to withhold all state grant funding from local governments that do not

SB 10, would halt all state grant funding from the Federal Government. This is up to and including
grants for 911 service and transportation infrastructure and would affect local governments that do
not follow all immigration orders from the federal government.
Passage of SB 10 would also hold counties liable for damages if they release an individual after
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detainer request and the individual
commits injury to person or property thereafter. The bill does not define or specify what injury to
person or property means.

Purgatorio Essay
Purgatorio
Perhaps the best place to begin a consideration of Purgatorio is not its beginning but its middle. In
cantos 16 18, the central three of this the central canticle, we learn about love and free will,
perhaps the two principles most important to an understanding of the whole of the Comedy.
Because our modern novelistic tradition of structure has led us to expect our plots to be arranged
climactically, we tend to find this kind of geometric construction artificial and surprising, even
though the practice was fairly common in medieval literature. Dante had himself already
experimented with this kind of structure in La Vita Nuova. La Chanson of Roland, to cite another
well known example, seems by our standards to drag on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this to be comprehensible, we must understand that Dante considers instinct a form of love,
natural or animal love, which can never be sinful. A second kind of love, however, mind directed
love, can fail in one of three ways and so be sinful, and in explaining this Virgil also explains the
way the central portion of Purgatorio is structured around the concept of the seven deadly sins. One
can go wrong by loving things one should not, (pride, envy, and anger), by loving what one should
love, but with insufficient intensity (sloth) or by loving as ends in themselves things that one
should love only in proper relationship to primary ends. In indulging these impulses, therefore, and
so committing sins, one is motivated by a species of love.
In canto 18, however, Dante pursues the relationship between free will and love one step further.
If love is a powerful force innate in each individual, what merit is there in loving good or blame
in loving ill? The answer is that Reason must surely guard the threshold of consent, for only with
full consent of the will can a soul be held guilty of sin. Traditional medieval psychology held that
sin involved three steps: attraction, delectation or delight, and consent. One perceives with the
senses something to which one is attracted and then forms within the mind an image of the object
of attraction in which to take delight. These two actions, the attraction or perception and the taking

Privacy, Crime, And Prevention
Privacy, Crime, and Prevention
While there are many crimes committed on a daily basis in various forms, people who use
computers seldom think about computer crimes, and what measures need to be taken in order to
prevent those type of crimes. Also many people who use computers are not aware of the privacy
and security measures that are taken advantage of. In order to handle these situations, it is
important to be educated on topics such as how to protect your privacy (and who is able to view
your personal information without you knowing), the crimes committed dealing with malware and
other virus agents, and how to utilize tools and stay away from scams that you may encounter.
These topics are important and should be addressed to all of the public, but particularly to children
and the elderly who are the least of informed on the ever changing technological world and how it
can directly effect them if precautions are not taken.

The Importance Of Character Development In Great...
People are selfish creatures who generally view others in a limited, self serving manner; only
forming an opinion on another s identity in relation to their own. In the novel Great
Expectations by Charles Dickens, the protagonist Pip s character development is entirely due to
the way he views those close to him and his need for self improvement in response to these
views. As Pip matures, he looks to the world around him and more importantly to the people
around him to form his desires and ambitions. The novel illustrates the dangers of both ambition
and idealism and provides a brilliant commentary on social conformity. Although Pip does grow
to place genuine value on those close to him later in life, he reflects on his former aspirations
and selfishness in his youth that caused much turmoil in his life. Despite Pip s brother in law,
Joe Gargery, beginning as a personal hero that Pip initially likens to a sort of Hercules in
strength (7), Pip later grows ashamed of him. Joe s character basically remains unchanged
throughout the novel and primarily acts as a symbol of Pip s personal growth (or lack thereof).
Joe is described as a kind and honest blacksmith with little financial success, and he represents
Pip s modest beginnings and true background which Pip wishes to leave in the past as he begins
to seek out a great fortune. Biddy, who eventually ends up marrying Joe, is also a reminder of Pip s
poor beginnings and acts as a foil to the character Estella because she

Themes of Loss in The Shawl and Bone Black Essay
The loss of a family member is always hard to deal with and it affects everyone differently. Some
people are open about their feelings and others bottle them up. In terms of relationships within a
family, usually the closest is between the parent and child. When this relationship is cut short or is
nonexistent because of a loss it can be especially devastating. The loss of a familymember does not
always refer to an actual physical loss, but can also refer to an emotional distance put between
two people. In The Shawl by Louise Erdrich, there is an example of a physical loss and its effects
on the family, while in Bone Black by Bell Hooks the loss shown is of the emotional kind and it s
aftermath. It is interesting to view these stories... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis:
8. What Screwtape means by the phrase second conversion is that the patient is recommitting to the
Lord. He is now accepting God again. I have experienced a second conversion . 9. Screwtape
implies that human beings should not follow genuine likes and dislikes because it could lead to
them thinking that they will recover. All of the time and effort Wormwood has put in will go to
waste. That thick layer of crust Wormwood has formed on the patient will peel off. 10. Peer
pressure can definitely create distance between God and us. Your friends could have you doing
stuff that you thought you would never be in. Things can go south rather quickly given an
awkward enough situation. One can respond to peer pressure by having a strong biblical
foundation, and/or setting up guards around oneself to prevent filth from entering into their life.
Dig Deeper: 11. True humility is doing things for other people. Furthermore, humble yourself as a
servant and put away your selfishness. Screwtape wants Wormwood to gratify the patient s
humbleness so that pride will form at his own humility. God wants us to push our humility towards
Him and those around us. Helping out others/humility pleases the Lord. 11. (Part Two) Based on
the exchange between Jesus and the scribe in Mark 12:28 34, Screwtape s analysis about humility
is reasonable. It can be difficult to achieve true humility because it is hard for us, as humans, to
give up our selfish ways. Having read

Irony In Mark Twain s The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
Comedy as a genre has a purpose of amusing audiences in literature. Born in ancient Greece in 6th
century BCE (before common era), comedy was utilized to make fun of politicians, philosophers,
and artists(). Today, the evolution of literature expresses various ideas and emotions represented
through comedy. Authors use comedy in literature to allow audiences to receive messages in a
lighthearted manner.
Authors of children s books apply comedy to their work with an underlying moral lesson. Dr.
Theodor Seuss Geisel, famously known as Dr. Seuss, wrote books that taught children life lessons

According to Dictionary.com, irony is defined as a technique of indicating, as through character
or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly

Twain manipulates comedy and irony and creates characters identical to Miss Watson in
Huckleberry Finn. Mark Twain s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn follows Huck Finn in Missouri
getting civilized by Miss Watson and an unnamed widow. Huck has just come into some money
after Tom Sawyer and he is now expected to become a gentleman. He finds this task grueling and

him live with him by a lake. Huck cannot turn to this lifestyle, resulting in his faking his death. He

and John Carlos were both students at San Jose State University. What Smith and Carlos had done
was one of the most memorable moments in the American Civil Rights Movement. Carlos recalls,
What was truly special was not the statue, but how it came about. Students on campus organized a
movement that made the statue happen.
On October 2005, San Jose State University had unveiled a 22 foot statue in honor of the former
students, Tommie Smith and John Carlos. The statue showed Smith and Carlos frozen, fists aloft,
exactly as they had stood 40 years earlier on the Olympic Podium in Mexico City. The second

Smith and Carlos wore gloves to represent black America, and they had removed their shoes and
wore black socks to symbolize the poverty that was going on in the black American community.
Smith wore a scarf and Carlos a bead necklace representing lynching. When the national anthem
started playing, Smith and Carlos had bowed their heads and raised their black gloved fists, which
according to Smith stood for the power in black America. Because they had courage and they were
unafraid to express and protest the poor treatment African Americanpeople in the states were going
through, they had suffered consequences. Millions of their fellow Americans were outraged
which resulted them in getting suspended from the U.S team. When they were getting off the
podium they were booed by the crowd, and Smith had said, If I win, I am American, not a black
American. But if I did something bad, then they would say I am a Negro. We are black and we are

Presentation script Bibliography
Monday 20th April
Hello, as you all may know my names Ami Watson.
Today s presentation will offer you an insight into my exploration of dreams and the influences they
offer our creative stimulus in response to photography.
Throughout this presentation I aim to offer you all an insight into the world of surrealism and
dreams.
Firstly I will introduce you to the surrealist movement and some relevant themes with surrealist art.
Then explore the defined states of consciousness, moving into explaining what a dream is. Next will
be a brief touch on what influences visual stimulating tools have upon art, flowing through to
surrealism and dreams. Here I will talk about the contrasting views of the surrealist and Freudian
opinions of dream definition and expression.
After I will produce a few artists who have used dreams to influence their creativity within bodies
of work, each using different aspects of dreams as a tool. And to wrap up my exploration I will
produce my conclusion on the matter and express how this body of research has influenced me
within my own photography. Thank you for listening, I hope you enjoy.
Introduction to the surrealist movement
Surrealism is a 20th century movement in art and literature that sought to unlock the creative
potential of the unconscious mind, for example by the juxtaposition of

Interpretation Paper on Edouard Manet s Luncheon on the Grass Originally titled as Le Bain,
means the bath; Luncheon on the Grass was exhibited at the Salon de Refuses in 1863. It is
painted with oil on a large canvas by Г‰douard Manet created in between 1862 and 1863. The
painting represents the contrast between a female nude with fully clothed men in a rural setting. By
that time, normally woman in paintings didn t look at viewers straight, especially with nudes.
Traditionally, nude models mostly looked away from the view. But however, Manet s naked female
model straightly stares at the viewer. This was shocking, but... Show more content on

Also because the two clothed men are wearing dark clothes, the nude female obviously pops out
from the background and grabs viewers attention. I can see where the light hits in different areas,
but the nude female takes the main light source, and therefore, the landscape background smoothed
out the light. Tradition to this time era, Manet s techniques were extraordinary and brush strokes
become much less developed. Most of his brush strokes have been done in free handed. Focusing
on the nude female, her skin is not smoothed out with value of color and brush techniques. Also the
background is containing a rough brush strokes. During this time period, most of the artists are
hiding brush strokes for their technique, but Manet did the opposites. It is obvious to see each
brush stroke in nude female giving a rough complexion. In the background, also this style of rough
brush strokes are made noticeable, and this even seems unfinished. Manet was free with technique.
He did not try to hide or to follow the trends; indeed, some scenes in the painting seem unfinished.
Through the composition, the figures are positioned in central. The interesting thing is that through
this composition, I can draw myself a direct pyramid from. From the foreground nude female
figure rises up to the lady in the water. With this compositional sense, attention falls between the
two men. Men seem very odd and just stuck to be posing because compare to the women two men
seems very dull

Analysis Of Spotlight
The movie Spotlight is a film based on actual events that tell how a special investigative group
uncover a scandal involving the Catholic Church. The story is set in Boston, Massachusetts in
2001. The story began with a new editor, Marty Baron, joining the team of the Boston Globe.
The story unfolds in a gripping tale of how this group of reporters are able to overcome many
obstacles and tell a story that most likely saved many children from being abused. Marty Baron is
the editor that joins the team and it is clear from the beginning that he is thought to be boring and
an outsider to the city of Boston. They make a references to him being Jewish to infer that he does
not understand their religion or the extent of the importance of Catholicism within their community.
Marty shows us over the course of the movie that he is looking at the bigger picture using the
Larger Truth approach. When he and the Spotlight team discuss the widespread issue of the priests
and how the church was paying off the victim s family, he tells the team that they need to focus first
on the institution not priests . This is also somewhat of a populist approach. He was much more
concerned about how the church was not dealing with the issue and how it was affecting the entire
city. Marty wanted to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There have been dozens of definitions of entrepreneurship. The first of those is the phenomenon
that some people, rather than working for somebody else under an employment contract, strike out
on their own and become self employed. These economic entities involve some element of
innovation at start up, and some degree of innovativeness is needed to survive over time. However,
innovation is not central to this phenomenon. It is to the second social reality. This reality involves
the development and renewal of any society, economy or organization, which is based on micro
level actors who have the initiative and persistence to make change happen. In this reality,
entrepreneurship means the creation of new economic activities and organizations as well as the
transformation of existing ones . Indicators of Contributions to Economic Outcomes 1)Employment
: Firms may contribute to the amount of employment generated or to the quality of employment.
Firm growth, measured by the number of jobs created (relative to the size of the firm), is often
used as an indicator of the quantity of employment generated. The quality of employment is
measured in terms of the remuneration offered to employees. The primary indicators used are
wage levels, benefits (e.g. health insurance), and the use of productivity related pay (PRP). Job

The first element that we must address is what is compounding. Compounding is a practice in

Racism In America Essay
I choose the topic Racism in today s society because it is a topic that dramatically effects our way
of living. I believe racism is not something that not only affects certain people, racism affects
everyone.
My position on the topic of racism is that it s a negative faction in our society that results in death
of blacks and other minority groups.
The importance of racism in America.
Racism in the U.S. is important and should be know because it is an important part in our history
that shaped America. People are not born racist, people who are racist were usually raised in an
atmosphere that embraced it. Racism is a negative faction in our society that affects you and

racism in every corner it leads to people questioning their safety in a government that may have

Media And Anorexia
Introduction It is apparent that with the increasing popularity of social media today, there has
been a shift in dietary changes within our society. Individuals are subconsciously changing how
and what they eat. The question arises, why are so many young women dissatisfied with their
bodies, despite their size? Although there are several forces believed to play a role in this
dissatisfaction such as peer criticism and parental influences, the thin ideal body is dominating the
media (Grabe, Ward, Hyde, 2008). Thinness is largely emphasized and praised for women in
magazines, television shows, movies and commercials (Stice Shaw, 1992). Anorexia Nervosais an
eating disorder that stems from this ubiquitous obsession to be thin and is often associated with a
pathological fear of gaining weight, distorted self body image and emaciation (The American
HeritageВ® Science Dictionary).
Various studies have demonstrated that when women are shown both photographs or TV
commercials with extremely slender models they indicate an increase in dissatisfaction with
their body (Crouch Degelman, 1998). A study regarding social media specifically, was
conducted by researchers at the University of Haifa on 248 girls ages 12 to 19; they found that
the more time girls spent looking at pictures on Facebook, the more they suffered from eating
disorders such as Anorexia, as well as other conditions including a heightened urge to diet and lose
weight (University of Haifa, 2011). Media access is

Key Contextual Language Differences Between Japan And...
This case study will introduce the key contextual language differences between Japan and Singapore
and the different language education policies of the two countries. Specifically, the historical
background concerning the use of English in the two countries, the political landscape involving
the role of English, the mentality towards English and lastly the teaching of English. In the past
English was the language of the Singaporean government when Singapore was a British colony.
Since then it has been a wellspring of economic resource. Meanwhile English has never held official
status in Japan and the citizens of japan can make a comfortable living for themselves without the
need for English in daily activities. English interestingly is very prominent in Singapore but has
little use in Japan. Touching on attitudes, Singaporeans are fully embracing English while in
contrast Japanese people still have lingering doubts. Certainly English education in Japan is heavily

Italian American Attitudes Towards Speech Summary
Italian American attitudes towards speech not only is representative of their family orientated
culture, but also for the role oral traditions as a medium for providing younger generations the
necessary values and beliefs to thrive in what otherwise was a foreign society with different
ideologies. Throughout Mount Allegro, Mangione repeatedly talks about the idea of second
generation Italian immigrants being able to speak the parent s language, or mother tongue, Italian
(Mangione 20 and 49 50). His mother, who reinforced the rule of only speaking Italian in the
household, emphasizes the importance of being able to communicate in a language shared by

Italian American attitudes towards speech are often taught through descent, by lessons told from
older generations. One such lesson is the idea of never telling others about one s own problems or
family problems. Particularly relevant in Mangione s anecdote about Comare Alfreda and
Compare Calogero, in which Comare Alfreda discusses Compare Calogero s philandering to
Jerre s mother (Mangione 168). As discussion of Compare Calogero s philandering to others
could result in others, especially women, paying more attention to Compare Calogero, this could
have resulted in Comare Alfreda s problems from coming true, emphasizing the sense of
vulnerability when one reveals too much information. This particularly becomes relevant, as
Mangione states that eventually the details of the story soon got around to [his] relatives
(Mangione 180). In addition to keeping quiet about one s own problems, the idea of omereta, the
oath of silence, is also a practice passed down through descent, due to the older generation s lack of
faith in the law (Mangione

The Disadvantageous Of Web Gis
The Disadvantageous of Web GIS Their Solutions Whether it is scientific, social, technological, or
theoretical, there are always flaws and improvements that can be created for a particular topic. The
iPhone first came out in 2007 with features such as Visual Voicemail, multi touch gestures, HTML
email, Safari web browser, threaded text messaging, and Youtube. Many of the features that are
common in Smartphones today such as MMS, apps, and copy and paste, did not exist. However,
every year since 2007, the iPhone gradually became more advanced with a multitude of features
available. This same concept can be applied to the flaws of Web GIS. This system is faulty,
however, with the continuous advancement in technology and more research that can be conducted
on the structure of this platform, several InternetGIS may be resolved. Internet GIS, while a
powerful tool, has a broad range of issues varying from technological complications to social justice
issues.
There are many Web GIS issues that must be resolved in order for its full potential to be
maximized. Firstly, the Web GIS environment is dependent on several technological factors. Among
these are internet connection and speed (Dragicevic, 2004), traffic intensity, data efficiency, and
the capacity of the client and server machines (Kraak, 2004). Internet GIS relies heavily on the
extensive use of graphics, and connection speeds over the Internet can make heavy use of graphic
intolerably slow for users.

world. By involving the military and increasing the troop strength, President Obama can achieve the

In order to advance the vital interests of the United States, we need a military that is equipped with
best of everything and the backing of a nation to use them to defend our national interests and goals
when needed.
2. The National Defense Strategy (NDS) counterbalances the Defense Departments tendency to
focus on winning conventional conflicts rather than irregular wars by empowering those small
nations to improve the security of their countries to prevent conflicts from happening. The NDS
focuses on the different irregular warfare tactics that can be used by our enemies in the strategic
environment. It gives us guidance on what we need to do to prevent the use of these irregular
warfare tactics. It was not until the last decade that the U.S. military started fighting the irregular
wars; our Special Forces units were the ones that were fighting the unconventional wars. The U.S.
military has had a difficult time changing its focus on fighting conventional wars to fighting
irregular wars. During the Vietnam War, the U.S. military became very experienced in guerrilla
warfare tactics. However, when that war ended the focus shifted back to fighting the conventional
wars and that experience was lost. Now, because of the lack of experience, the U.S. military is
having a difficult time fighting the unconventional wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The 2008 NDS
attempts to counterbalance the focus on conventional wars by emphasizing

The Killer Cats Are Winning Analysis
Cats, are a common household in America and are known to outnumber dogs as pets. Natalie
Angier talks about this in her article The Killer Cats Are Winning! I think cats should be allowed
to be outdoors. Cats are playful animals, they are great pets, and I own one.
Natalie Angier, discusses that we spend a lot of money on cats; yet cats are wild at heart. Peter P.
Marra and Chris Santella authors of Cat Wars, view cats as cuddly killers. Cats are viewed as
invasive species as a contamination to the environment. Outdoor cats are a threat to wildlife as
predators. Also cats are a danger to human health from different types of illnesses. The Trap Neuter
Return (TNR), view cats as human alternative to euthanizing strays.

The man behind this was, David Lyall in 1894 he decided to bring along his female cat to the
island. Lyall was an amateur naturalist studying the biological bounty. Wasn t this guy smart
enough not to take the cat along? On the island there was flightless songbirds but they went extinct
because of the cats. The flightless songbird would have not been extinct today if David would
have not gone with the cat. Plus, those birds cannot fly so obviously they were going to die.
As this article continues to be bias. A research in 2015, showed proof that cat killed many animals.
But when asked by cat owners 98 percent did not car. Also they did not want the cats inside all of
the time. Plus, the research showed 60 percent did not think their cats were doing harm to the
environment. This is proving that people do not see harm from cats whether they are outside or to
the environment.
I do not agree with this article because the entire thing is bias towards cats. There are more cat pets
over dogs. Cats should have the freedom to be outdoors, not get blamed for the destruction of the
environment and more studies should be done on how cats are worthy rather than the immoral

Criminology Vs Enlightenment
Throughout social sciences there are various opposing theories and perspectives, often based on the
same social and criminological phenomenon, with contradictory, contrasting explanations and
actualities .
Both the classical and positivist methodologies within criminological theory have been exceedingly
influential in their definition of and attitude to dealing with the concepts of crime and punishment.
For centuries, theorists have attempted to approve a new and current approach to criminal
punishment, in the hope that we can essentially understand thoroughly, and therefore know how to
deal with criminal behaviour in an efficient manner. The two theories in question do of course
differ, yet also share resemblances, and both influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Politically speaking, it is the system of laissez faire (freedom). Capitalism was introduced as a
moral and practical system as it leaves the individual free to think rationally and therefore act
purposefully. The moral justification of capitalism lies in the fact that it is the only system in
agreement with man s rational nature , but also, its ruling principle is: justice. (Anon., 2015)
Classical theory is simply founded on the postulation that individuals exercise free will and are thus
completely responsible for their actions, it aims to decree laws that are clear, simple and unbiased
but that also reflect the consensus of the population; educate the public, eliminate corruption from
the supervision of justice, and reward virtue. (Patwary,

Civilization In Brave New World Mustapha Mond
In the books Jungle book: Mowgli s brothers and brave new world, and Batman Year One. They
both have civilization vs savagery with soma changing the perception of the citizens of New World
and letting them be carefree and party on their soma vacations while the reservation lives a simple
life. In the story Mowglis brother the theme civilization versus savagery is shown with how the
wolves use the rock council to make important decisions that affect all so everyone has a voice
which is same as our democracy while Shere Khan does what he pleases. In BatmanYear One the
city of Gotham is out of control and corrupted while Batman and Dective Gordan try to keep the

In Batman year one this corruption is present as well throughout the story. Gotham city was
basically run on favors and funding from the rich to the politician. The police department wasn t
any better the police commissioner and most of the force was corrupted they were involved in
illegal activities and took bribes. Mustafamond made sure that no one could really think on their
own and challenge his rule which is wrong due to the fact he is deliberately keeping people in
the dark and dumber just so he isn t threatened by someone taking over. Mustapha Mond s anger
gave place almost at once to mirth. The idea of this creature solemnly lecturing him him about
the social order was really too grotesque. The man must have gone mad. I ought to give him a
lesson, he said to himself; then threw back his head and laughed aloud. For the moment, at any
rate, the lesson would not be given. (11.36). Mustapha Mond believed he was the smartest man
every which is why he treated john with such disrespect the way he acts is so un human he treats
him as if he is a little kid not a grown man with the way he talks to him. In Batman the police
commissioner feels that he is untouchable when it comes to being punished by the law. He
creates his citizens in a very strange manner he creates them in tubes which is insane people don

Research Paper On Progeria
10527
History
Progeria is a rare genetic disorder causing one to age rapidly. It was founded in 1886 and in 1897
by doctors in England by the names of Dr. Hutchinson and Dr. Hastings Gilford. Hence the
doctors that founded it, it also goes by the name Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome. This
disease is quite rare and only affects about 1 in 20 million people in the world. Most children
diagnosed with progeria often die of complications like atherosclerosis, which is a buildup of
plaque against artery walls that causes tearing of the blood vessels. When a child is born, the
parents cannot necessarily tell their child has progeria. The characteristics are typically reflected
within the first two years and then that child is diagnosed with ... Show more content on

Awareness of this disease needs to be recognized. Treatment is becoming available now with
new technologies and advancements. If the new clinical trial helps treat progeria even more
than the first trial, good outcomes will be there and a possible cure for the disease could
eventually appear in the near future. The rare genetic disease is an unfortunate and a sad issue
in the world. If doctors are able to stop the protein progerin completely from going against
normal cell activity and functioning, it could mean that people that suffer from progeria may be
able to live a longer and happier life. It could also mean that people with late onset progeria
(adult progeria) could get treatment as soon as possible and perhaps it could vanish completely
so they can go back to their old living. Obviously all doctors and researchers are still in the
making of these trials, but depending on how the data turns up, progeria could have a cure.
Looking back at the timeline of this disease, it was discovered in the 1800 s and doctors were
able to identify that it s a genetic disorder due to a point mutation. It can be diagnosed as a young
child or adult, symptoms are noticeable and characteristics of the disease are easy to identify, and
treatment is being discovered. There is no doubt that this timeline will continue throughout the next
50 years and new technologies are going

The Signalman, The Red Room and The Man with the Twisted Lip
The Signalman, The Red Room and The Man with the Twisted Lip
How do Dickens, Wells and Doyle create tension and suspense in The
Signalman, The Red Room and The Man with the Twisted Lip respectively? It is obvious that these
tales were written in the mid nineteenth century because the style of writing is very different to the
more modern techniques writers employ today. In these stories, we are told about objects which no
longer have a place in modern society, such as
the telegraph and the steam train . Therefore it was necessary to look more closely at the scripts
to identify how the authors create a sense of mystery. These are three very different mystery
stories, all of which are trying to keep the reader gripped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The stories are true mysteries and can have no solutions as there are about the impossibility of ever
knowing what is real.
Dickens story The Signalman is the oldest of the three, 1866, whereas the other two are less
aged and date back to 1891 for The Man with the Twisted Lip and 1894 for The Red Room .
Whilst all three authors are attempting to hold the reader in suspense, the places in which the
various tales are set have proved to be very, very diverse.
The Signalman written by Charles Dickens in 1865. Dickens wrote this thriller a year after he had
been involved in a railway accident himself. When travelling to London, the train derailed at a
high speed killing ten people and injuring many more, consequently influencing his style of
writing. He personally knew of the terrible dangers of the new technology. Dickens used the fact
that it was new technology and a new era that no one knew what to expect in that it is always scary
experiencing new things. Back in this time, the railway was a new innovation and was cutting edge
technology . Therefore this was a very modern flavour for Dickens to choose as a setting. Also,
Dickens choice of environment is unforeseen and staggering in which he combines the earliest
paranormal and the contemporary day inventions.
There is also a very Victorian suggestion about rigid class division, it being very obvious to the
narrator that this signalman is too sophisticated to be

Insanity In The Black Cat By Edgar Allan Poe
Poe s The Black Cat is essentially an extended metaphor for insanity, specifically resulting from
obsession, and the psychopathic complexity of human nature. Through the narrator s reactions
to and Poe s incorporation of various symbols, the struggle the narrator faces with his conscience
and moral surface. The symbols that Poe employs, especially those relating to the black cats,
work together to form the convention of horror and suspense, as well as to convey the alteration
of morality through factors such as substance abuse and perverseness (Lazim 60). For example,
the color of the cats, black, is typically associated with aspects such as evil and death, both of
which are embedded within the narrator and his story. Black cats, themselves, are usually
associated with bad luck and superstition as well; this idea is even alluded to by the narrator s
wife, although the narrator claims his wife was never serious (Poe 4). Furthermore, there were
specific instances that occurred that related primarily to the narrator and his mental stability,
motives, and emotions. For example, the hanging of his companion, Pluto, is symbolic of the
narrator s inability to accept love as a result of his increasing irritability as well as his deteriorating
stability and mental well being.

Cosmetic Testing On Animals
Testing cosmetics on animals is not only cruel and inhumane, but it has been proven to produce
inaccurate results. Testing on animals has become an every day occurrence and routinely happens
in the cosmetic industry. It costs billions of dollars each year and produces ineffective results.
Animals are treated inhumanely during testing, as they are shaved and have chemicals spread onto
their bodies and chemicals sprayed into their eyes. Animal species are different just as animals are
different from humans so test results vary and provide inaccurate and unreliable results. The Food
and Drug Administration no longer requires testing on animals in the United States prior to the sale
of cosmetics, and we, as consumers, can help put an end to cosmetic testing on animals. Further,
there are alternative tests that cosmetic companies can use which would eliminate animal testingand
produce more accurate results. Cosmetic testing on animals costs billions of dollars each year and
often produces ineffective results. From Fact Sheet: Cosmetic Testing: The Humane Societyof the
United States. Cosmetic companies are using animals to test products like skin cream, perfume,
make up and shampoo. As we spend so much money on cosmetic testing on animals, one should
be reminded how different animals really are from humans which makes results completely
unreliable in most cases. Also, different animal species tested may have one result and another
animal species may produce an entirely different result. One test result might indicate that a
chemical is safe while another test on a different type of animal might indicate that the chemical
is harmful. This then provides the cosmetic company with a failed and inaccurate testing result
and could even pose risks to consumers. This makes the testing on animals seem unnecessary
since they are not accurate. Testing on animals has been done in the past for medical and science
purposes and is now being done to test cosmetics to determine whether or not they are safe for
humans. Animals are most often shaved and have chemicals smeared onto their skin and are left
for days or weeks with the chemicals on their bodies to see what effects they have on the animal s
skin. They also have

Racial Profiling Research
Racial profiling has come to represent one of the latest challenges toward law enforcement agencies
in the United States. In America, unfortunately, racial profiling occurs. For instance, NYPD officers
stopped about 87 percent of the public that were either black or Latino (Geller, 2014). In addition,
approximately the same percentage was not guilty of a crime. In the study by the American Journal
of Public Health, young men who encounter numerous policecontact or aggressive stops by the
police reported that they had more trauma and anxiety symptoms than among young men who had
less of these encounters with the police (Geller, 2014). This means that less aggressive invasive
tactics are necessary for suspect in order to reduce the possibility

Proclaiming Freedom from a Conquered Identity in The Autobiography of My Mother In Jamaica
Kincaid s novel The Autobiography of My Mother, the protagonist examines the effects of European
colonization on Antiguan inhabitants. Characters exhibit traits of a defeated population; they
attempt to overcome their position of vanquish by obtaining power over the minimal recourses
available. The protagonist, Xuela, differs from the rest of the Antiguans through her ability to rely
on individuality as a resource of security. Xuela proclaims freedom from the inheritance of a

The inhabitants claim ownership over external beings and entities to gain a sense of stability.
Xuela recognizes the primitive drive that the impulse to possess is alive in every heart (Kincaid
174), however a disorderly environment heightens the desire to assert ownership. While other
characters possess occupations, husbands, children, and objects, Xuela chooses to possess herself
(Kincaid 175). This choice is an act of defiance towards European ideology; the basis of western
superiority relies on the possession of properties and civilizations. Xuela satisfies her human drive
of possession through a mechanism of self reliance without adopting the Eurocentric concept that
she has a right to own and control external entities. Other characters who choose external
possessions acquire a position of weakness; they have to attend to the possession and hope that it
remains satisfied with its submissive position. Xuela escapes from the burden of vulnerability by
creating a life that revolves around herself. She obtains a sense of strength that other inhabitants are
unable to experience because she relies on the ownership of her identity as a mechanism of

Factors That Affect The Combined Analysis Of Sa And Iud
In this section, we present a four step methodology to quantify distinct factors that affect the
combined analysis of SA and IUD in real domains, as well as the potential benefits of this type of
analysis. Basically, the proposed methodology takes into account the domain s temporal dynamics,
the sampling sensitivity of the methods and the observed reciprocity between the collectiveopinion
and opinions propagated by opinion leaders. Through this methodology, we intend to quantify some
important issues related to combine SA and IUD. We are not assuming a closed and complete
assessment on all existing issues, which comprise promising research directions for the

First, we derive the collective opinion $O$ of a whole data sample $D$, using a SA method existing
in the literature. Specifically, we adopt in this work the method SACI cite{jws2015}. SACI is
relevant to our goal since it was originally proposed for estimating efficiently collective sentiment
on data samples, instead of aggregating the sentiment derived for each individual document.
Further, the authors demonstrated that SACI is more effective in estimating the collective opinion
than aggregation based SA methods. SACI represents $O$ as a distribution probability among the
sentiment classes positive, negative and neutral. Thus, we split $D$ into time units of equal size
(e.g., days, weeks, months). Then, we estimate the collective opinion $O_t$ using only the posts
belonging to each distinct time unit $t$. Finally, we perform a visual inspection on the derived
distributions. The more dynamic a domain, the more different are opinions estimated on distinct
time units.looseness= 1
In turn, we measure drifts on the subset of opinion leaders over time as follows. First, we
identify the ordered list $L$ of top k opinion leaders on $D$ by using an IUD method.
Specifically, we use the presented in cite{iccs2015}, a meta learning strategy based on PCA that
combines linearly orthogonal information exploited by distinct state of the art IUD methods. We
will call this method as PCA IUD. We chose PCA IUD since it combines

1839 Photography
Since photography s invention in 1839, it has had an intimate relationship with land and nature,
and a favorite of photographers. Early photographers set a precedent for bringing the world up
close to far off lands and undiscovered wildlife and sated society s romantic appetite for the
unknown. Their photographs represented a window to the world and preserved picturesque scenes
for everyone s delight. It is here I explore the beginnings of photography s relationship for
preservation and protection for these wonders and the focus of this chapter. This chapter starts with
the painter s desire to precisely capture details of subject matter, including the natural world. Then, I

These early paintings depicted the sublime elements of land and nature (Cantrill Oravec, 1996;
Elliot, 2006; Sandweiss, 1991). Paintings of the Roman Empire exhibited landscapes with a
foreground, middle ground, and background similar to positions on a theatrical stage (i.e.
upstage, middle stage and down stage). The foreground typically contained a large tree or side of
a cliff, called a coulisse. The middle ground depicted a human or animal, sometimes a river or even
a ruin to lead the viewer s eye into the scene. The background contained the horizon framed by the
objects of the foreground. Key to these paintings was the harmonious coexistence of humans and all
of Earth s inhabitants. Near the end of medieval times, painters applied the rules of math and
architecture to render the principles of perspective to accurately represent depth and perspective
with a true vanishing point. Renaissance painters revered classical Greek ideals in their paintings, a
practice that continues even today. In the 17th and 18th century, landscape was the backdrop to the
larger biblical or mythical stories depicted in paintings. Paintings also served as records of
instrument and painters routinely were commissioned to accompany British, Dutch, Italian,
Portuguese and Spanish explorers as they colonized the western world. With colonization, these
paintings reinforced status as well as expansion of one s

Medieval Japanese Beliefs
Medieval Japan has gone through many hardships, but the everlasting bonds held Japan together
during these times. The three bonds that held Japan together were religion, traditions and the
government. These three bonds held Japan together through the difficult times.
The three major religions during the 16th century in Japan were Zen Buddhism, Shinto, and
Christianity. An epidemic ravaged the land and was interpreted as bringing the wrath of the kami
down on the nation. This epidemic had led to objects being thrown into the canals and temples
being destroyed. Shinto s religion had taught people that kami, who were the gods and spirits were
present everywhere. Zen Buddhism taught people the way to inner peace was through meditation
and self control. This religion was adopted by the samurai warriors. Christianity started to disappear
from Japan during the 16th century because Hideyoshi put bans on the religion. ... Show more

The animals eating it will not let my garden grow to the expected growth it s supposed to be at. Or that the radishes I forget to water them one day when they re supposed to be watered daily. Another problem that can occur is if it were to rain, and the rain overly watered them. A problem can occur, if it gets very cloudy because radishes needs lots of sun. That is just some of the many problems that can happen during the planting and growing process. Saftey issues that should be considered during the project is making sure you don t get any parasites. Adult Picky Eating Paper The research report Adult Picky Eating: Phenomenology, taste sensitivity, and psychosocial correlates, was published in the international research journal, Appetite, by the University of Pennsylvania. The authors of the report wrote in a very conventional manner or in other words, adhered to this genre s conventions. The intended audiences of this article are psychologists and scientists and we know this due to esoteric diction and the organization throughout the paper. Keywords and phrases such as cognitive symptoms of disordered eating, ARFID, psychopathology and references to DSM V tell us this article is geared to more specifically psychologists. Keara gave a passionate closing, which really tore into the other side s arguments. 2.While both sides did exceedingly well, the con side did just slightly better and therefore won the debate. He is also starting to see his mothers misery. I believe that the more Bruno met with Samuel he became more aware of what was going to happen to him. I also think that as Bruno got older he became more knowledgeable and had a better understanding of what was going on at that time in Germany and other European countries. • 7. Oppression In Jane Eyre The Impression of Oppression in Jane Eyre Jane Eyre by Charlotte BrontГ« depicts the rigid social structure and clear division between the upper and lower classes of Victorian society, in which wealth and status determined one s beliefs, career, and treatment from those surrounding them. Those of the upper class did not typically converse or involve themselves with those viewed as beneath them; however, Jane Eyre fights the separation between the classes to which she has fallen victim at both Gateshead and Lowood school. Her refusal to conform to the hierarchy eventually leads to the meddling between the Victorian era elite and peasant class, as seen through Jane Eyre s romantic relationship with Edward Rochester, an upperclassman and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Reed family evidently still carries this grudge against Jane s side of the family, as they all treat her as part of a lower class that is unworthy to live with them or be associated with them in any way. The only time that a member of the Reed family speaks to Jane is when they are belittling her, hoping to further assert their elite dominance over the lower class. In one particular quarrel, John Reed, the oppressive Roman emperor and slave driver, throws a book at Jane s head to physically proclaim his dominance over her, to which Jane responds by verbally firing back at his elitist oppression. (BrontГ« 13) The battle between the social classes concludes with Jane being banished to the horrifying red room as punishment for attempting to overthrow the elite power, John Reed, even though John was the clear instigator of the scuffle. Jane is later condemned by the house servants for her attempt to overthrow her young master. Jane and John are both children, but due to the wealth and status of his parents, John is allowed to rule over Jane, making Jane, as the Gateshead servants would describe, less than a servant because she does nothing for her keep. (BrontГ« 15) Jane continuously faces this maltreatment at Gateshead until an outburst directed towards Mrs. Reed causes her to be sent away to Lowood school, a place where Mrs. Reed hopes Jane will perhaps be taught to conform to the societal norm of how a young girl like Jane should act in ... Also, to support this feeling each time the formula is showed there is more added to it than one can write in the brief moment that it took to come back to it with the camera. Additionally, the benefit of having the scene of him writing on the mirror lets the viewer see him concentrating on the formula and lets the viewer see the formula being written out which shows the viewer how intelligent Will must be, since the formula probably made little sense to him or her. Another effect was a fight scene captured in slow motion. After the fight scene the cops showed up and many flashes of the scene from different camera angles appeared creating a feeling of confusion and made it seem speeded up without it being filmed in fast motion. During this movie many close ups were filmed where the eyes were the only bit of color on the screen. Even as the enrollment in science, technology, engineering, and math classes have increased in the past 20 years, the number of students enrolled in computer science has actually decreased. This can be attributed to the neglect exhibited by schools on computer science. In these 20 years, 1 billion computers have been built which makes computerscience integrated : so baked into human life that it is not surprising to encounter, with social, technological, and futuristic aspects of the world. Universities are already starting to require computer science classes, but this creates the question: How should computer science courses be implemented in education before University? An optimal solution must teach social problem solving skills, increase the functionality of technology, and provide an understanding of the future. The time at which computer science is introduced must also be considered to ensure students have enough prior background knowledge in other related disciplines and a basic understanding of what computer can and cannot do. In order to properly implement computer science in education, it should be required in high school education and teach the ubiquitous relationship that computer science has with the social, technological, and futuristic aspects of the world. Computer science is bound to have social impacts because of its ubiquitous nature. The most influential of these impacts is the introduction of computational thinking. Computational Thinking is a process that generalizes a solution to open ended problems. Open ended problems encourage full, meaningful answers based on multiple variables, which are derived using abstraction and automation. When solving open ended problems, computer scientists abstract notions from both the physical and theoretical worlds. • 13. Purgatorio Essay Purgatorio Perhaps the best place to begin a consideration of Purgatorio is not its beginning but its middle. In cantos 16 18, the central three of this the central canticle, we learn about love and free will, perhaps the two principles most important to an understanding of the whole of the Comedy. Because our modern novelistic tradition of structure has led us to expect our plots to be arranged climactically, we tend to find this kind of geometric construction artificial and surprising, even though the practice was fairly common in medieval literature. Dante had himself already experimented with this kind of structure in La Vita Nuova. La Chanson of Roland, to cite another well known example, seems by our standards to drag on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this to be comprehensible, we must understand that Dante considers instinct a form of love, natural or animal love, which can never be sinful. A second kind of love, however, mind directed love, can fail in one of three ways and so be sinful, and in explaining this Virgil also explains the way the central portion of Purgatorio is structured around the concept of the seven deadly sins. One can go wrong by loving things one should not, (pride, envy, and anger), by loving what one should love, but with insufficient intensity (sloth) or by loving as ends in themselves things that one should love only in proper relationship to primary ends. In indulging these impulses, therefore, and so committing sins, one is motivated by a species of love. In canto 18, however, Dante pursues the relationship between free will and love one step further. If love is a powerful force innate in each individual, what merit is there in loving good or blame in loving ill? The answer is that Reason must surely guard the threshold of consent, for only with full consent of the will can a soul be held guilty of sin. Traditional medieval psychology held that sin involved three steps: attraction, delectation or delight, and consent. One perceives with the senses something to which one is attracted and then forms within the mind an image of the object of attraction in which to take delight. These two actions, the attraction or perception and the taking of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. The Importance Of Character Development In Great... People are selfish creatures who generally view others in a limited, self serving manner; only forming an opinion on another s identity in relation to their own. In the novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, the protagonist Pip s character development is entirely due to the way he views those close to him and his need for self improvement in response to these views. As Pip matures, he looks to the world around him and more importantly to the people around him to form his desires and ambitions. The novel illustrates the dangers of both ambition and idealism and provides a brilliant commentary on social conformity. Although Pip does grow to place genuine value on those close to him later in life, he reflects on his former aspirations and selfishness in his youth that caused much turmoil in his life. Despite Pip s brother in law, Joe Gargery, beginning as a personal hero that Pip initially likens to a sort of Hercules in strength (7), Pip later grows ashamed of him. Joe s character basically remains unchanged throughout the novel and primarily acts as a symbol of Pip s personal growth (or lack thereof). Joe is described as a kind and honest blacksmith with little financial success, and he represents Pip s modest beginnings and true background which Pip wishes to leave in the past as he begins to seek out a great fortune. Biddy, who eventually ends up marrying Joe, is also a reminder of Pip s poor beginnings and acts as a foil to the character Estella because she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Themes of Loss in The Shawl and Bone Black Essay The loss of a family member is always hard to deal with and it affects everyone differently. Some people are open about their feelings and others bottle them up. In terms of relationships within a family, usually the closest is between the parent and child. When this relationship is cut short or is nonexistent because of a loss it can be especially devastating. The loss of a familymember does not always refer to an actual physical loss, but can also refer to an emotional distance put between two people. The Disadvantageous Of Web Gis The Disadvantageous of Web GIS Their Solutions Whether it is scientific, social, technological, or theoretical, there are always flaws and improvements that can be created for a particular topic. The iPhone first came out in 2007 with features such as Visual Voicemail, multi touch gestures, HTML email, Safari web browser, threaded text messaging, and Youtube. Many of the features that are common in Smartphones today such as MMS, apps, and copy and paste, did not exist. However, every year since 2007, the iPhone gradually became more advanced with a multitude of features available. This same concept can be applied to the flaws of Web GIS. This system is faulty, however, with the continuous advancement in technology and more research that can be conducted on the structure of this platform, several InternetGIS may be resolved. Internet GIS, while a powerful tool, has a broad range of issues varying from technological complications to social justice issues. There are many Web GIS issues that must be resolved in order for its full potential to be maximized. Firstly, the Web GIS environment is dependent on several technological factors. Among these are internet connection and speed (Dragicevic, 2004), traffic intensity, data efficiency, and the capacity of the client and server machines (Kraak, 2004). Internet GIS relies heavily on the extensive use of graphics, and connection speeds over the Internet can make heavy use of graphic intolerably slow for users. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He made this decision because he said it was vital to the United States national interest. The vital national interest at risk in President Obama s address is the security and safety of the American people as well as the security of our allies and the common security of the world. By involving the military and increasing the troop strength, President Obama can achieve the objectives of his strategy. In order to advance the vital interests of the United States, we need a military that is equipped with best of everything and the backing of a nation to use them to defend our national interests and goals when needed. 2. The National Defense Strategy (NDS) counterbalances the Defense Departments tendency to focus on winning conventional conflicts rather than irregular wars by empowering those small nations to improve the security of their countries to prevent conflicts from happening. The NDS focuses on the different irregular warfare tactics that can be used by our enemies in the strategic environment. It gives us guidance on what we need to do to prevent the use of these irregular warfare tactics. It was not until the last decade that the U.S. military started fighting the irregular wars; our Special Forces units were the ones that were fighting the unconventional wars. The U.S. military has had a difficult time changing its focus on fighting conventional wars to fighting irregular wars. During the Vietnam War, the U.S. military became very experienced in guerrilla warfare tactics. However, when that war ended the focus shifted back to fighting the conventional wars and that experience was lost. Now, because of the lack of experience, the U.S. military is having a difficult time fighting the unconventional wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Natalie Angier, discusses that we spend a lot of money on cats; yet cats are wild at heart. Peter P. Marra and Chris Santella authors of Cat Wars, view cats as cuddly killers. Both the classical and positivist methodologies within criminological theory have been exceedingly influential in their definition of and attitude to dealing with the concepts of crime and punishment. For centuries, theorists have attempted to approve a new and current approach to criminal punishment, in the hope that we can essentially understand thoroughly, and therefore know how to deal with criminal behaviour in an efficient manner. It was founded in 1886 and in 1897 by doctors in England by the names of Dr. Hutchinson and Dr. Hastings Gilford. Hence the doctors that founded it, it also goes by the name Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome. This disease is quite rare and only affects about 1 in 20 million people in the world. Most children diagnosed with progeria often die of complications like atherosclerosis, which is a buildup of plaque against artery walls that causes tearing of the blood vessels. When a child is born, the parents cannot necessarily tell their child has progeria. The characteristics are typically reflected within the first two years and then that child is diagnosed with ... If the new clinical trial helps treat progeria even more than the first trial, good outcomes will be there and a possible cure for the disease could eventually appear in the near future. The rare genetic disease is an unfortunate and a sad issue in the world. If doctors are able to stop the protein progerin completely from going against normal cell activity and functioning, it could mean that people that suffer from progeria may be able to live a longer and happier life. It could also mean that people with late onset progeria (adult progeria) could get treatment as soon as possible and perhaps it could vanish completely so they can go back to their old living. Obviously all doctors and researchers are still in the making of these trials, but depending on how the data turns up, progeria could have a cure. Looking back at the timeline of this disease, it was discovered in the 1800 s and doctors were able to identify that it s a genetic disorder due to a point mutation. It can be diagnosed as a young child or adult, symptoms are noticeable and characteristics of the disease are easy to identify, and treatment is being discovered. It is obvious that these tales were written in the mid nineteenth century because the style of writing is very different to the more modern techniques writers employ today. In these stories, we are told about objects which no longer have a place in modern society, such as the telegraph and the steam train . Therefore it was necessary to look more closely at the scripts to identify how the authors create a sense of mystery. Dickens story The Signalman is the oldest of the three, 1866, whereas the other two are less aged and date back to 1891 for The Man with the Twisted Lip and 1894 for The Red Room . Whilst all three authors are attempting to hold the reader in suspense, the places in which the various tales are set have proved to be very, very diverse. The Signalman written by Charles Dickens in 1865. Dickens wrote this thriller a year after he had been involved in a railway accident himself. When travelling to London, the train derailed at a high speed killing ten people and injuring many more, consequently influencing his style of writing. He personally knew of the terrible dangers of the new technology. Dickens used the fact that it was new technology and a new era that no one knew what to expect in that it is always scary experiencing new things. Back in this time, the railway was a new innovation and was cutting edge technology . Therefore this was a very modern flavour for Dickens to choose as a setting. Insanity In The Black Cat By Edgar Allan Poe Poe s The Black Cat is essentially an extended metaphor for insanity, specifically resulting from obsession, and the psychopathic complexity of human nature. Through the narrator s reactions to and Poe s incorporation of various symbols, the struggle the narrator faces with his conscience and moral surface. The symbols that Poe employs, especially those relating to the black cats, work together to form the convention of horror and suspense, as well as to convey the alteration of morality through factors such as substance abuse and perverseness (Lazim 60). For example, the color of the cats, black, is typically associated with aspects such as evil and death, both of which are embedded within the narrator and his story. Black cats, themselves, are usually associated with bad luck and superstition as well; this idea is even alluded to by the narrator s wife, although the narrator claims his wife was never serious (Poe 4). Furthermore, there were specific instances that occurred that related primarily to the narrator and his mental stability, motives, and emotions. For example, the hanging of his companion, Pluto, is symbolic of the narrator s inability to accept love as a result of his increasing irritability as well as his deteriorating stability and mental well being. ... • 47. Cosmetic Testing On Animals Testing cosmetics on animals is not only cruel and inhumane, but it has been proven to produce inaccurate results. Testing on animals has become an every day occurrence and routinely happens in the cosmetic industry. It costs billions of dollars each year and produces ineffective results. Animals are treated inhumanely during testing, as they are shaved and have chemicals spread onto their bodies and chemicals sprayed into their eyes. Animal species are different just as animals are different from humans so test results vary and provide inaccurate and unreliable results. The Food and Drug Administration no longer requires testing on animals in the United States prior to the sale of cosmetics, and we, as consumers, can help put an end to cosmetic testing on animals. Further, there are alternative tests that cosmetic companies can use which would eliminate animal testingand produce more accurate results. Cosmetic testing on animals costs billions of dollars each year and often produces ineffective results. From Fact Sheet: Cosmetic Testing: The Humane Societyof the United States. Cosmetic companies are using animals to test products like skin cream, perfume, make up and shampoo. As we spend so much money on cosmetic testing on animals, one should be reminded how different animals really are from humans which makes results completely unreliable in most cases. Also, different animal species tested may have one result and another animal species may produce an entirely different result. One test result might indicate that a chemical is safe while another test on a different type of animal might indicate that the chemical is harmful. This then provides the cosmetic company with a failed and inaccurate testing result and could even pose risks to consumers. This makes the testing on animals seem unnecessary since they are not accurate. Testing on animals has been done in the past for medical and science purposes and is now being done to test cosmetics to determine whether or not they are safe for humans. Animals are most often shaved and have chemicals smeared onto their skin and are left for days or weeks with the chemicals on their bodies to see what effects they have on the animal s skin. Factors That Affect The Combined Analysis Of Sa And Iud In this section, we present a four step methodology to quantify distinct factors that affect the combined analysis of SA and IUD in real domains, as well as the potential benefits of this type of analysis. Basically, the proposed methodology takes into account the domain s temporal dynamics, the sampling sensitivity of the methods and the observed reciprocity between the collectiveopinion and opinions propagated by opinion leaders. Through this methodology, we intend to quantify some important issues related to combine SA and IUD. We are not assuming a closed and complete assessment on all existing issues, which comprise promising research directions for the area.looseness= 1 subsection{Temporal Dynamics Analysis} A main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, we derive the collective opinion $O$ of a whole data sample $D$, using a SA method existing in the literature. Specifically, we adopt in this work the method SACI cite{jws2015}. SACI is relevant to our goal since it was originally proposed for estimating efficiently collective sentiment on data samples, instead of aggregating the sentiment derived for each individual document. Further, the authors demonstrated that SACI is more effective in estimating the collective opinion than aggregation based SA methods. SACI represents $O$ as a distribution probability among the sentiment classes positive, negative and neutral. Thus, we split $D$ into time units of equal size (e.g., days, weeks, months). Then, we estimate the collective opinion $O_t$ using only the posts belonging to each distinct time unit $t$. Finally, we perform a visual inspection on the derived distributions. The more dynamic a domain, the more different are opinions estimated on distinct time units.looseness= 1 In turn, we measure drifts on the subset of opinion leaders over time as follows. The foreground typically contained a large tree or side of a cliff, called a coulisse. The middle ground depicted a human or animal, sometimes a river or even a ruin to lead the viewer s eye into the scene. The background contained the horizon framed by the objects of the foreground.
