Phytonematode Problem in Pulses affecting Crop Yield.ppt
1. Phytonematode Problem in Pulses affecting Crop Yield
Root-knot nematode (RKN), (Meloidogyne incognita) is a Polyphagous nematode having wide
host range. Pulse crop like Mungbean is highly susceptible to this nematode.
Nodulation is very important feature for the sustenance of crop and this nematode had adverse
effect on nodules and absorption of nutrients. Impair root tissues - affects the absorption and
translocation of minerals in roots.
Thus, studies undertaken to investigate role of varying levels of RKN on Mungbean i.e., on
nodule efficiency and nutritional status beside overall growth of plant and thus affecting crop
yield.
INTRODUCTION
2. MATERIALANDMETHODS
Mungbean Variety selected : Pusa vishal
Pot size 15cm diameter earthen pots filled with 850g sterilized soil (soil and sand 3:1)
Bacteria - Rhizobium leguminosarum (Mungbean strain) 2% seed coat.
Inoculation was done in 15 days old plant @ T1(0), T2(100), T3(1000), T4(2000),
T5(4000), T6(6000)J2/per pot
Replications _ 4
Experimental design : Completely randomized design (CRD)
3. (Table. 2) At 6000 J2s/pot- maximum reduction of nitrogenase activity (430.85 ‘n’ mole ethylene
produced/g fresh nodule weight) compared to the uninoculated check plant (1782 ‘n’ mole ethylene
produced/g fresh nodule weight).
Leghaemoglobin- minimum (1.13 mM) compared to the check (3.35 mM) at 6000 J2s/pot.
Bacteroid in nodule recorded- 1.98, 1.72 and 1.36 (103 cfu/g fresh nodules) at 2000, 4000 and 6000
J2s/pot respectively compared to check 9.46 (103 cfu/g fresh nodule)

(Note: All bracket values indicates % reduction over control)
4. • N, P, K, Ca and Mg- significantly changed due to nema infection compared to uninoculated with rhizobia in
both root and shoot. (Table. 3)
• N level- shoot decreased with increase of inoculum level while in root it increased.
• Similar trend observed with P as well as K which increased in roots by 90% and in shoots reduced by 80%.
• P content reduction in shoot was significantly altered at lowest inoculum level. K level also altered similarly.
• Ca and Mg- affected more than 100% at highest inoculum in shoot.
