Project: Music Magazine
Project Description: For my main task I mustcreate a frontcover,
contents page and doublepage spread for a new music magazine.
Photographer:
I will be the one to take all the photos for my music magazine (other than
advertisements) as I want it to be all my own work.
I want the angles of my photos to be straight on and presented through
the technical code of a mid – close up as well as some full body shots for
inside my magazine.
I want the lighting to be quite bright as many features will be
monochrome so the features that aren’t need to brighter to lighten up the
magazine.
Some of the effects I want to include within my magazine are black and
white, desaturated photo effect; I will also use a softening tool on all my
photos as that is used on the photos used in my magazine of inspiration
‘CLASH’.
Reference images and ideas:
Images of inspiration:
The reason why I chose this name for my music magazine is because it is
unlike any other music magazine name as it is two syllables long. This makes
the name catchier and unique which is what my music magazine is as a whole
compared to leading music magazines such as ‘Kerrang!’ or ‘Q’.

Casting:
Model requirements:
The person which I will be using will need to be of a height of around 5ft 6” and
with dirty blonde hair like the image of the front cover from ‘CLASH’ magazine
which I am using for my inspiration.
Wardrobe and Look:
I want the model to be wearing fairly dark and simplistic clothes like many of the
models are in ‘CLASH’ magazine, the models clothing needs to be relatively
‘indie’ as my magazine is sporting ‘Indie’ music.
Hair and Make up:
I want the makeup to be simplistic yet defining of key facial features such as the
cheek bones etc. even though I want the majority of the makeup to be simple I
want there to be a burst of color, either in the lipstick or facial décor (special
effect makeup). I preferably want the models hair to be wavy (beach waves) as
shown in the above pictures. As the makeup and hair is fairly simplistic it means
that I will be able to incorporate an effective background for my front cover
which will make my magazine stand out as well as keeping the look original.
Where:
Ideally some of my photos will be shot in the woods for the double page spread,
for the front cover I will be shooting in the photography studio so that the photos
have a professional look, if there’s a white background it means that the photos
will be much easier to edit other than if it was in a complicated background. I
want the photos for my contents page to also be shot in the studio, however also
For my front cover and double page spread I will be using my friend to be in the photos
(as she is what my main feature is about). She suits the requirements of what I want my
model to look like and also has an indie style which means she will fit in perfectly with the
theme of my magazine.
The reason I have chosen these pictures as my images of inspiration is because this is the
style of phot which my magazine of inspiration ‘CLASH’ uses on their magazine front covers
each month. The shot type is usually a mid – close up, with the occasional whole body shot,
the effects are usually very similar, however black and white photos are a common theme in
this magazine. The front cover photos sometimes have a grainy effect (as shown in image of
CLASH magazine front cover) and almost always have a background with an effect on it. Black
and white photos are used quite frequently within the magazine, as well as mid- close
Up shots and I wish to incorporate these into my magazine which I am making.

on the contents page I will have previews of a few of the pages on there (such as
company advertisement) which will not require me to take any photos myself.
When:
I will be taking the photos with Cara in the forest on the weekend (15/11/14)
and the photos in the photography studio of the 19/11/14.
