Spanish American Imperialism
When it comes to the topic of the Spanish American War of 1898, most Americans may believe
humanitarian aspects influenced the United States role in Cuba. In a way, the public thought
America would be freeing Cuba from the atrocities the Spaniards had laid upon them. One source
about the reconcentration camps outlines what the Cubans faced, Four hundred and sixty women
and children thrown on the ground, heaped pell mell as animals, some in a dying condition, others
sick and others dead... Sources such as these portrayed aspects of yellow journalism which
exaggerated stories and influenced the emotions of the American public. Where the people s
argument ends, is whether or not freeing Cubafrom Spanish rule was the sole reason behind

Although these historians do not believe Social Darwinism led to America becoming a world
power, they do agree imperialism in the United States was led by their economic need. In the
previous quote by William McKinley, this claim of an economic need is supported, as the
president clearly states that acquiring the Philippines would greatly increase American trade.
Additionally, in a speech by the former senator of Indiana, Albert J. Beveridge, America s
economic reasons for becoming involved in the Spanish American war are portrayed. The text
exemplifies, in Cuba, alone, there are 15,000,000 acres of forest unacquainted with the axe. There
are exhaustless mines of iron... There are millions of acres yet explores... It means new
employment and better wages for every laboring man in the Union . This entire quote is the
senator marveling over the economic possibilities if the United States were to acquire Cuba. If the
America s motivation was simply to free the Cubans from Spanish rule, than Beveridge would not
have uttered these words at all during his speech. The truth is the United States wanted to increase
their economic dominance as well, for it is difficult to become a world power without financial
stability. By expanding American markets into Cuba, the United States can reap the benefits from
the resources Cuba has but

Mary Musgrove s Role In Native American History
The diverse recognitions and accomplishments of many famous historical Native American
women has created them to be viewed as heroic figures, ultimately causing them to influence and
improve Native American history. Mary Musgrove was born in 1700 in Georgia, and was a
member of the Cherokee. She was a colonial American translator and negotiator for English and
Yamacraw ancestry. She facilitated in the development of Colonial Georgia and became an
important negotiator between the Muscogee Creek Indians and the English colonists. These two
distinct societies caused Musgrove to bridge the gap between them, ultimately causing her to
become a cultural mediator, who not only translated but advised those who acknowledged her
capabilities and hardships. After many years of attempting to unite two diverse worlds, she died in
her sleep in 1767. Mary Musgrove is known as an individual hero by Native American society

She was one of the first five wives of Chief Shaumonekusse of the Otoe tribe in the early 19th
century. In 1822, she accompanied her husband to Washington DC where she captivated
McKinney, the president of the US, his cabinet, and just about everyone she met with her
attractive looks. The Bureau of Indian Affairs commissioned Charles Bird King to paint portraits
of her and her husband. The beauty of Hayne singled her out from most Native American women,
causing her to be included in the government s commission of portraits. She is known as a heroic
figure in Native American art especially in the Otoe tribe for her recognition of being chosen by
the bureau of indian affairs for the beauty. Although the original portrait of Hayne was destroyed in
a fire at the Smithsonian Institution in 1865, a patron donated King s personal copy to the White
House in 1962. Hayne Hudjihini died from measles in 1882 in

The History of Caterpillar Engines Essay
The History of Caterpillar Engines The start of Caterpillar engines actually begins before
Caterpillar was even a company. The history began back in the late1800 s when Daniel Best and
Benjamin Holt were experimenting with various forms of steam tractors used for farming. The
two competed with each other to gain the lead in the farm equipment industry. Throughout the
late 1800 s and early 1900 s Holt and Best continued to build both steam and gas tractors. In 1908
Best sold his company to Holt. In 1925 Holt Manufacturing and C. L. Best Gas Tractor, a
company owned by Best s son C. L. Best, merged to form Caterpillar Tractor Company. Three
years later C. L. Best met with Carl George Arthur Rosen to discuss putting diesel engines in...

This housing then directs the compressed air into the engine. After the use of the turbocharger
they discovered a new problem. The compressed air was much hotter than normal air going into
the engine. The reason was that when the air is compressed it puts pressure on all the atoms.
This causes the atoms to hit each other, causing friction, and move even faster. These rapid
movements cause a massive amount of heat. This excess heat caused less oxygen to get to the
cylinders which means a loss of potential power. Our answer to this dilemma was the aftercooler.
Aftercoolers are used to lower the temperature of the air after it comes out of the turbo but
before it enters the engine. By lowering the temperature the air becomes denser and holds more
oxygen. This increase in oxygen provides an increase in power. There are three types of
aftercoolers. The first is an Air to Air Aftercooler (ATAAC). With the air to air system, a
separate cooler core is placed in front of the engine. The engine fan then passed outside air
across the cooler. The outside air is much colder than the compressed air in the cooler. This
difference causes the compressed air to drop in temperature by losing its heat to the outside air.
This method is very common on most on highway trucks since they have access to a large volume
of fresh cool air. The second type of aftercooler is the Jacket Water Aftercooler

Fast Five Movie Analysis
Fast Five Film Review A 2011 American Action Film directed by Justin Lin. The movie was
written by Chris Morgan. The movie is the 5th film for The Fast and Furious Series. It was first
released in Australia on April 20, 2011 and then later released in the United States on April 29,
2011. Cinematography for the movie was put together by Stephen F. Winden. The film was
distributed by Universal Pictures. Fast Five was a financial success that broke box office
records for the opening weekend in April of 2011. The movie was so popular that is overpassed
the Fast And Furious action movie series. In the flourishing stages of the film, Universal studios
veered away from street racing and wanted to pull off an action packed heist involving fast cars.
They took this route to attract an even larger crowd than the Fast and Furious series already did.
Fast Five is considered the transitional film for the series where it includes only one racing
scene and more action packed scenes such as gunfights, melee, and a $100 million bank heist.
The production company had a tactic that included advertising through social media and
NASCAR itself. Fast Five made over $626.1 million in sales in the United States Box Office. It
made 66 on the list for the all time worldwide list for highest grossing movie sales. The movie is
rated PG 13 and its total running time is two hours and 10 minutes. The main characters set in
the movie are Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Matt
Schulze, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Tego Calderon, Don Omar, Joaquim de Almeida, Dwayne
Johnson, etc. After a successful prison escape, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Jordana Brewster
flee to Rio De Janeiro. Sooner than you know it, they are involved in another high speed race car
theft. As the film goes on, their plan goes south and things start to get out of hand. During this
time, they kill three DEA Agents and are wanted by the Kingpin leader of a drug cartel, Joaquim
de Almeida, and a ruthless federal agent, Dwayne Johnson. As their time begins to wind down,
Vin and Paul gather up a group of elite outlaws to stage a $100 million heist while being chased

Psychology helps us understand the way humans think and how our brain functions, this may also
include certain behaviors in any given situation. My research is based on the psychology of
childhood social and emotional development, and adolescence. Like a lot of things in psychology
and this world, this has led my research to prove their is a direct correlation between social and
emotional development in children and the entirety of adolescence.
Emotional development during childhood is a crucial step in the early stages of life. This process
is needed for success in adulthood and throughout life. Emotional development is defined as The
emergence of a child s experience, expression, understanding, and regulation of emotions from birth
to late adolescence, this also comprises of how growth and changes in these processes concerning
emotions occur. Since emotions are among the first to develop it s important to make this a healthy
growth as emotions begin to mature and progress.
Shonkoff was determined from the start of the NAS committee process that From Neurons to
Neighborhoods would be much more than a report that was released, discussed for a few days,

The Trail Of Tears By James Collins
James Collins
Donald West
History 201
December 1, 2015
TRAIL OF TEARS
The trail of tears is also referred to as the period of Indian s removal. It was a period where Native
Americans in the U.S were forcefully relocated following the removal of Indian Removal Act of
1830. Those who were forcibly moved were from Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole, and Chickasaw
and Choctaw nations in the southern U.S, an area initially referred to as the Indian Territory.
Migration from Cherokee nation had begun in the early 1800 s where some Cherokee s decided
to move and settle in other parts of the country. A group of Old Settlers had moved there earlier in
1817 voluntarily to lands granted to them in Arkansas where they had a peaceful life. Afterward,
they were forced to move into the I Indian Territory (A. Byers 27)
Resentment of Cherokee from the whites had been building up ad it became worse after the
discovery of gold in northern Georgia. White communities turned against their Cherokee neighbors
due to the thirst for expansion and gold. Without consulting or questions asked, the U.S
government decided that Cherokee had to be removed, leaving their lands, home and farm. Before
their removal, the five groups lived together being referred to as the Five Civilized Groups. The
white settlers from the southeast had been pressurizing the U.S government to remove the Native
Americans. These settlers were on the Indian lands and wanted more for them. The move was
initially opposed by many as it was

Analysis Of The Novel Franny And Zooey By J.d. Salinger
Human life is a blend of myriad of emotions. Our emotions add facets to our humanity they give us
dimensions and make us the social, emotional and intellectual beings we are. People go through
both good and rough times. While some persevere through these times, some crack and acquire
fissures. In the novella Franny and Zooeyby J.D. Salinger, Franny Glass is undergoing a similar
identity and existential crisis which severely derails her life. Disenchanted by the superficiality
of the world surrounding her, Franny embarks on a process of purgation, distancing herself from
the world along the way. Franny s folly in assuming that the change she is looking for can only
be achieved by detaching herself from her life, the things that matter the most to her, starting
anew, shows her dogmatic approach to self purification. In seeking union with reality which is
what the mystical experience is, she leaves the reality of her life behind herself, resulting in her
ending up stranded in a perilous path of self questioning. Franny Glass is on a journey of self
discovery. Driven by the notion that everything and everyone she knows is selfish and phony,
Franny tries to imitate a life of seclusion and monastic living. She is influenced by her brother
Seymour s way of life, his philosophies and the book The Way of A Pilgrim she finds on his desk.
The book recounts the story of a Russian monk who goes around ceaselessly saying the name of
Godin hopes of connecting more closely with

Similarities Between Iron Man And Batman
With great power comes great responsibility Ben the uncle of Spider man. Human beings with
heroic abilities are influential to most children. Superheroes must be very careful with their actions
in order to give children a good impact. For example, children always wear capes in their homes

children. Most children have their favorite superherodepending on how each hero surfs justice

Julius And Ethel And The Nazi Of The Soviet Union
On April 5, 1951, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were sentenced to death for conspiring to commit
espionage for the Soviet Union ( on this day , p.1). Their execution was not meant to happen, it
was used as a threat to encourage the Rosenberg s to confess to their crimes. Julius and Ethel
stuck to their story throughout the trial, they remained true to their communist beliefs, but they
never confessed to being spies. The Rosenberg s were executed in June 1953, but there was little
evidence supporting their execution. Julius and Ethel had similar backgrounds, their young
lives influenced their communist beliefs. Ethel was born on September 28, 1915 ( Biography of
Ethel p.1). Ethel lived in New York City with her parents Barnet and Tessie Greenglass and her
three siblings. Mr. Greenglass ran a repair shop for sewing machines, they hardly had enough
money to feed everyone. The family lived in a tenement that was unheated. Ethel wanted a

Empathy Belly Research Paper
While wearing the empathy belly, I experienced many physical and mental challenges. There
were many obstacles I had to overcome and deal with the uncomfortableness. After wearing the
belly for only a few short hours, I now have even more sympathy for women who have to go
through this for nine months. I experienced many symptoms while wearing the belly. The most
noticeable symptom I noticed was my heart rate. Having a heart condition and wearing the belly
probably wasn t the best idea since it cause my heart rate to increase and I had a palpitation. It
makes me wonder what it would be like if I was actually pregnant. Would I be able to carry a baby
without it drastically effecting my health? I noticed that it was harder than normal to breathe
because of the metal balls on my ribs. I was sweaty and felt like walking from class to class was a
chore. The only part of my body that actually hurt was my ribs because of the balls. Walking in the
belly was very awkward and uncomfortable. It didn t slow me down, but I had to waddle from side

because not only do they have to experience the physical effects, they also have to experience the
mental effects. I give props to pregnant women because I don t think I d be able to handle it for

day and see if it changes her mind. Pregnancy and having a child is a ton of work, and most

Dick Hebdige Analysis
When words fail, music speaks. This saying is commonly used to support the power that humans
give music over words, to the point that they are represented better by song lyrics then their own
voice. This leads to the rise of certain styles of music that a group of individuals can relate to and
find comfort in. Throughout history it has been evident how certain genres of music have been
associated with a type of culture because it represents their struggles and voices their thoughts.
However, music does not always speak the correct way for everyone. People also tend to take
lyrics and interpret them differently than what the original artist intended them to mean.
Misinterpretation can cause a lot of controversy, especially if the meaning of a song opposes a
certain culture, or individual. By comparing Dick Hebdige s article The Meaning of Styles and
Macklemore s song White Privilege, one can analyze how music can be appropriated by other
ethnicities. Hence, one can further understand the controversy that arises... Show more content on

However, throughout the years Hip hop began to be appropriated by Caucasians. This can be
seen in White Privilege, where Macklemore speaks up about how Hip hop has begun to lose its
earning because Caucasians are favored in the genre that did not even began with them.
Furthermore, this song causes a great amount of controversy and backlash to Macklemore,
especially from whites who felt offended by his lyrics. Thus, the controversy that arose caused
people to overlook the meaning behind White Privilege. They viewed this song as one who
focused solely on targeting the lifestyle of white, instead of viewing the original meaning which
was to acknowledge and raise awareness to the fact that Hip Hop was an art created by African
Americans. Overall, when people forget the meaning behind important cultural aspects, they also

What Is The Symbolism Of Boys And Girls
Symbolism of the Munro s Boys and Girls
The short story Boys and Girls was written by Canadian writer Alice Munro in the 60s. It looks
inside the family of a fox breeder with two children: an unnamed girl and her brother Laird. The
girl is narrator of this story. The work showed a typical life of a breeder the man looked after foxes,
but treated them only a source of a good fur. The girl wanted to be closer to her father in spite of
fact she was afraid of him a little and did not know what he thought about, unlike her mother. In
this he was quite different from my mother, who... would tell me all sorts of things the name of a
dog she had had when she was a little girl [or] the names of boys she had gone out with later on
when she was grown up (Munro 3). The narrator did not want to play a standardized female role.

maintain the family respectively. Laird took part in the murder of the second horse and let on
his sister. Children s father finished this conversation with the focus on the narrator s sex: Never
mind, my father said. He spoke with resignation, even good humour the words which absolved and
dismissed me for good. She s only a girl, he said (Munro 12). The main message of the story Boys
and Girls is that people star to play prescribed gender roles at a certain time regardless of their own
attitude and opinion. Author used narrator s behavior

Commercial Fishing In New England
Commercial fishing in New England is not sustainable. Commercial fishing is the catching of fish
for profit and, as with other profit making activities, there are trade offs between a pure capitalistic
market and the damage it does to resources. For commercial fishing, this trade off is that the more
fishthe fishermen catch, the more damage it does to the fish population. To make commercial fishing
sustainable, large regulations need to be in place, as Jack said. However, large regulations of a
free market are usually not accepted in America and would not be put in place in time to save the
fish and sustain commercial fishing.
The population of many fish species have decreased drastically through the years and, even with
current regulations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition of Capitalism according to Merriam Webster is an economic system characterized
by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private
decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by
competition in a Free Market. This means that the free market, or in this case commercial fishing,
is not controlled by the government because that is the definition of capitalism. Having big
restrictions on fishing would be seen as a restriction of the free market. Although regulations are put
on the free market, the size of regulations needed to sustain fish population and save commercial
fishing would not be tolerated by many political parties. The regulations would never be put in
place. Unless America changes its capitalist view, the large regulations needed to sustain
commercial fishing will not happen.
The changes needed for sustainable fishing are too big and do not fit with America s view of the
economic system. Unfortunately, without these changes, the fish population will continue to
decline. So, you can see that sustainable fishing in new England is not possible. Although New
England and the US cannot have sustainable fishing because of their capitalistic values, as shown
throughout history their values may

Comparison Between Hamlet And Hamlet
Hamlet Vs. Hamlet: A Comparison Between Films
Laurence Olivier (1948) and Kenneth Branagh (1996) both created films about the Shakespearean
play Hamlet, yet they are both very different. The two films were created fifty years apart and
present their film using their own perspectives and interpretations of Shakespeare s Hamlet while
using the same themes Shakespeare had. Two important themes are the use of technology and
treatment of women.
In Laurence Olivier s 1948 film, women are objectified; this reflects on the year of production.
The abuse in the character roles were more admissibly shown by gender roles. Hamlet is
presented as a very controlling person and is very controlling of Ophelia. He manipulates her
into having sex with him and shows other forms of relentless abuse towards Ophelia.
Furthermore, Hamlet reveals no other signs of affection for her other those of lust. Unlike the
version filmed by Kenneth Branagh in 1996, the date filmed is an important factor, as it
demonstrated how men interacted with women. In Olivier s film, Hamlet is stereotypically
masculine monotonous and aggressive. In the beginning of the first scene, Hamlet appears to
be emotionless, until he abruptly points to Claudius and aggressively yells All but one! The
scene ends with Hamlet exerting his power over Ophelia by throwing Ophelia to the ground and
leaving her on the steps to lure Polonius and Claudius out from behind the curtain. Hamlet
realizes what he has done to Ophelia, but leaves the room without helping her up or apologizes
for what he has done, even though his plan had failed. It is clear that Hamlet s plan to use
Ophelia as bait had failed because they could not have seen him or Ophelia from their side of the
curtain. Polonius confirms this when he says, No need to tell us, we have heard it all . In
contrast, Kenneth s Hamlet stops once he sees what he had done to Ophelia and goes back to
her. Kenneth s Hamlet is more emotional. He sheds tears, expresses pain in his voice, deeply
sighs, and overall is less physical with Ophelia. These differences between Kenneth and Olivier s
versions of the character Hamlet reflect the era of which they were created. In Olivier s time, abuse
of women was permitted; a man

The Role Of Self-Authorship In Revenge Of The Nerds
College is a time of transformation for students as they adapt to new environments and
expectations. It is also a time of increased freedom, where students learn more about themselves
and who they are as people. Baxter Magolda s Theory of Self authorship deals with the journey of
a person as they define themselves and move from external to internal definition. In the movie,
Revenge of the Nerds, many of the characters move through this journey of selfauthorship. In this
paper, we will focus on one of the characters in the movie, and show how he frees himself from the
constraints of external definition. We will begin with a brief summary of the movie, and then focus
on how Magolda s theory applies to the film.

Roman Arena
During the study abroad trip to Italy, I had the opportunity of visiting another city, Verona. One
of the first stops that were made as a class was the Arena. Not only is the Arena the best
preserved Roman monument in Verona, but it was built in the first century AD. The reason
behind this cultural monument being a favorite was due to the way it was not broken down and
once I stepped foot into the center of the arena, I felt as if I had become apart of what took place
years ago within it. Even though the arena is well preserved, a few changes had been made to
the center in order for it to keep up with modern day culture. The name, Arena, originated from
its central arena that was covered in sand. This famous arena held many gladiator fights when it
was first built and now, to keep in touch with the modern day shows that are held in colesseums,
operas are hosted. A fun fact about the arena is it was originally built outside of the city walls. It
was built in that location to make it easier for people from outside of the city to find it. However,

neighborhood in Brooklyn with his sister. He works at a local pizzeria, Sal s Pizzeria, and has a
girlfriend named Tina with whom he has a kid with and his name is Hector. Sal can been seen as
racist in some scenarios, but not nearly as racist as his son Pino who also works at the Pizzeria.
Pino dislikes African Americans, but most of his favorite celebrities are black. Sal has another
son, Vito, who also works at the Pizzeria and is friends with Mookie. As mentions before, Sal can
be seen as racist in some cases, one being that he does not have any black celebrities in his
Pizzeria. This causes a big scene when Buggin Out notices this, which forcefully

His basic themes in this work were anti Semitism, Germany s need to conquer living space, and the
necessity of a leader dictator (FГјhrer) with unlimited power.
The Great Depression caused many small businessmen, office workers, artisans, and peasants to
vote Nazi. Hitler promised to use government programs to end the economic crisis.
The Nazi party was dominated by youth and strongly appealed to them.
After May 1930, German President Hindenburg authorized Chancellor Heinrich Bruning to rule by
decree. Bruning s cuts in government spending and in wages and prices worsened the Depression in
Germany.
In January 1933 conservative and nationalist Germans supported Hindenburg s appointment of
Hitler as chancellor.
The Nazi State and Society
When fire damaged the Reichstag building in spring 1933, Hitler blamed the communists and
persuaded President Hindenburg to sign dictatorial emergency decrees.
Hitler then convinced the Reichstag to endorse emergency powers for himself and moved to
establish a one party state.

The Impact of Ethics on the Enron Corporation
Ethics is something that is very important to have especially in the business world. Ethics is the
unwritten laws or rules defined by human nature; ethics is something people encounter as a child
learning the differences between right and wrong. In 2001, Enron was the fifth largest company on
the Fortune 500. Enronwas also the market leader in energy production, distribution, and trading.
However, Enron s unethical accounting practices have left the company in joint chapter 11

Enron employees incriminating themselves on tape. (See http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/06

into bankruptcy. The value of the stocks came plunging down, which caused an overwhelming
negative impact on the investors, many of whom lost a substantial amount of money. The real
problem is that most of the investors who lost money were actual employees of the company. Most
Enron employees were urged to buy company stock as part of their 401k plans. Within months, all
the investments were gone. Certainly, the ethical actions (or lack there of) caused a negative
impact on the company s investors. The evidence presented shows how ethical actions can either
have a positive or negative impact (or in this case, both) on investors.
Retirees
The Enron scandal was another instance where unethical decisions have cost numerous people
jobs, money, and even stress related health problems. A few people cost thousands of retirees
millions of dollars in a matter of days. When Enron filed for protection from creditors on
December 2, 2001, 20,000 employees were left without jobs and retirement. Only months before the
crash, stock prices were beginning to plunge. Enron barred the employees from selling their stock
shares from retirement

The Role Of An Aging Population In The United States
The United States population over 65 years of age is increasing as the baby boomers reach
retirement age. Greater life expectancy is a result of people living longer with better nutrition,
healthcare, and management of chronic diseases. In the primary care setting, where I work, we
have a large patient population of older adults. Caring for middle aged and elderly patients requires
greater time and intensity than caring for most younger patients. It is not unusual for an elderly
patient to have six or more chronic conditions and twelve or more prescription medications which
require coordination and monitoring. Updated HIPAA consents and HealthCare Proxy documents
are essential to providing seamless care. Since primary care involves repeated encounters with
patients over time, I am quite familiar with many of my patients and their families and, when

A Sand County Almanac Aldo Leopold Analysis
In part II of A Sand County Almanac Aldo Leopold continues to talk about Wisconsin, but also
talks about other various places across North America he has visited. I think his experiences
across North America have influenced his philosophy toward nature and management because
Leopold traveled North America, as he shows in part II he has walked its mountains and crossed
its swamps. As a result Leopold observed firsthand the interdependence of the world, because
when he opens part II about the cranes of Wisconsin then later he talks about Sandhill Cranes
when he recounts his trip in the Gulf of the Colorado River located in Sonora, Mexico. Looking at
my National Geographic field guide for birds I can see that Sandhill Cranes summer breeding
ground reaches into southern Wisconsin and its winter non breeding ground is around the USA

The Narrative Style Of Angela Merkel, Chancellor Of Germany
Narrative intelligent leaders are significant to organizations, as they lead by storytelling, they are
simultaneously influencing others through trust and communication. The purpose of this
communication analysis is to highlight and describe how the narrative leader style of Angela
Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, ultimately inspires her followers. First, it will provide insight by
outlining her narrativeapproach based on her speeches, presentations, and podcasts in addition to,
the literature available in narrative communication and leadership. Next, it will delineate the
strengths of her communication style thus enhancing her narrative method. Then, the focus will
shift to bring attention to potential areas of improvement to the narrative approach. Finally, this
analysis will conclude with recommendations which in turn will refine her delivery, aid in
conveying her intended message, and ultimately enrich her narrative intelligent leadership style.
Narrative Communication
Narrative Intelligence is the capacity to understand the world, being familiar with the multi
dimensions of narratives, to know different patterns of stories exist, to know which narrative
patterns are likely to have what effect in which situation, knowing how to overcome the
fundamental attribution error, and understand the audience s story. Narrative intelligence has been

Suicide And Depression, Low Self-Esteem, And Suicide
Many people at one point in their life have experienced the feeling of hopelessness. Hopelessness
is described as a feeling of despair. Most people experience despair after a death, trauma, or being
separated from a person or thing. Out in the world today, there are so many outlooks and
strategies that are willing to help with this feeling of hopelessness. Outlooks such as people or
even making plans and setting goals. Setting small goals and accomplishing them are a great way
to boost self esteem and prevent or reduce hopelessness. Hopelessness can lead to issues such as
depression, low self esteem, and suicide. These people may be able to use the bible to help them to
cope with hopelessness. For example, Isiah 40 55 is a great explanation on how to restore hope.
Most people often find obstacles in their life to be overwhelming at times and can turn to drastic
measures. Suicidal people believe dying is easier then living. Suicide is described as the taking
of your own life. Depression and lowered self esteem can be responsible for most suicides in
today s society. Depression can be caused by a number of things, and can also be triggered by
low self esteem. The way hope is described on Merriam Webster Dictionary is to cherish a desire
with anticipation. Meaning wishing for a desired outcome to happen. Most people experience
hopelessness after a tragedy or incident such as depression. Strategies for coping with hopelessness

Uveitis Is An Eye Disease That Mainly Affects Golden...
Pigmentary Uveitis is an eye disease that mostly affects Golden Retrievers. Pigmentary Uveitis is
also known as Golden Retriever Uveitis, cystic glaucoma, or the shortened name of PU. PU is
thought to have originated from the Northeastern part of the United States, and was mostly in
Golden Retrievers. PU also affects crossbred dogs with Golden s such as Goldendoodles. Although
it is present in crossbreds, the disease still mainly affects Golden Retrievers. This is a genetic
disease that affects the eye, and the eye only. Uveitis is an inflammation of the uveal tract, which
includes the iris (Golden RetrieverUveitis). PU is usually diagnosed around the age of 8.6 years.
Which means if they were breeding dogs, they would have already passed it on to their
offspring. This genetic disease could spread very quickly, considering the signs are not visible
until after they have had offspring. Since breeding programs outside of the United States have
different certification standards, researchers do not know if PU has spread to other countries at
this time. Pigmentary Uveitis is usually diagnosed around the age of 8.6 years, although there
are cases that have reported as early as 2.5 years old (Sullivan, T., DVM) and the oldest was 14.5
years old (Sapienza, J., DVM). Most breeding dogs get diagnosed at one of their eye tests, called
CERF (Canine Eye Registry Foundation), and then go for further testing. Other non breeding dogs

The crochet technique of making mountains and valleys applies greatly to everything that
Esperanza goes through on her migration to California. This symbol is both in a literal and a
figurative sense. Esperanza literally starts at the top in Mexico. She lives on acres of land in a
beautiful vineyard, she has servants, and is well educated. But when trouble arrives, Esperanza
must go to the bottom of the valley in California. Here she has nothing; she lives in a small
house in an immigrant farm, she works hard every day, and she does not know any English. Life
as she knew it had completely changed. Migrating to a new place that is unknown, everyone is
new, and the language is not known is a grueling change and as a young child this must have
been very difficult for Esperanza to handle. In Esperanza s eyes every step she takes just brings
her lower and lower into the valley. Nothing seems to be going right, it is almost as if the
figurative mountain Esperanza must climb keeps growing taller. In Esperanza s eyes she was
taken from her perfect world and placed into a world where she could no longer feel the heart
beat of the earth (MuГ±oz Ryan 92). This was detrimental to her, for she had no idea what to do
next; she had given up. Esperanza finally began to understand her new life, but as soon as mama

What Were The Main Ideas Of Islam

The people of Islam had a city called Mecca, where pilgrimage took place. It consisted of temples
with Arab God and a large stone called the Kaabah. Muhammad was born in 570 in Mecca, and

The response from Karen Frank regarding medical information that she shared was that when

system does not have a process to edit medical information when printing. Monica Hamden shared
a similar response and explained that Epic, the system used by the office does not allow for any
other way to print out specific notes. Ms. Hamden stated that this a common practice in the office
and she has never received a complaint from any other patient; adding that she does her best when
sending patient medical notes, referring to Karen Frank. The response I received characterizes
healthcare software as the determining factor in what was shared, instead of HIPAA guidelines.
Early on DL cautioned that it was important to keep my appointments separate. Limit what is

Comp should not and does not need all of your information; only what is discussed during those

Judgment in the House of Sand and Fog Essay
Judgment in the House of Sand and Fog People place judgment on one another every day based on
differences. Sometimes it is done subconsciously; sometimes it is done on purpose. In the book The
House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III, two different cultures were represented; Kathy
represented the cultureof the western civilization, whereas Behrani represented the culture of
Persians. People judge one another based on unimportant things, and get judged based on those
same things as well. Two cultures were used to amplify how different their cultures were from one
another. Throughout the book cultures vocalized what they did not like about the other cultures by
placing judgmenton people based on ethnicity, appearance, and status;... Show more content on

167). Lester judged Behrani s morals and his past based on the fact that Behrani was an ethnic
man, a Persian man, photographed with a man who has a bad history. He also threatened to have
the INS check out the Behrani family, and pull strings if necessary to get the Behranis out of the
house, even though the Behrani family had full U.S. citizenship at that point. These judgments
passed out by both cultures show that all cultures function using judgment. In the reading The
Case for Contamination, Appiah states that some people like and some people don t like that
certain cultures have accepted being able to get a discussion going about Ronaldo, Mike Tyson
or Tupac, and being able to find a bottle of Guinness or Coca Cola, (paragraph 9). Many people
judge people who have accepted western civilizations, considering their identities threatened.
Different cultures possess different ideas of how people should present themselves. Appearance
is a large part of culture, because a complete stranger can be judged based on their appearance.
Behrani is the kind of man who always has to look put together. He will not let people see him in

The Embarrassing Moment Of A Friend Of Mine
I remember the embarrassing moment a friend of mine went through in class a few years ago,
when she had organized some chronological images on the wall. The instructor completely tore
her work apart because of her way of organization. Now in the world of design, most teachers get
very upset when the work is hung crocked on the wall. But this was not the case with my friend.
Her work was simply torn apart because of the direction she hung her pictures. Now most people
in class, including the teacher and even herself weren t aware of the fact that she simply did that
because she came from a middle eastern country where everything is organized from right to left.
But I was well familiar with this problem. In fact, I grew up learning three languages at the same
time in school. At age seven, I was learning to read and write in Persian, Assyrian, and English. In
the beginning, it would take me a minute to remember which way to start from when writing an
essay. For those of you who might not be familiar with these languages, Persian and Assyrian start
from the right side of the line moving to the left and eventually to the bottom of the page. The
numeric characters however, start from the left, and so does English. All these rights and lefts
confused me very much, and yet, when I found out that some Asian languages had a top to bottom
directionality, my mind was blown away. These conflicts made me start thinking about how the
world might seem different to an English speaker than

railroads. In 2005 huntingbuffalo became illegal, U.S. Senate offered each states American tribes

Normality In The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The...
Normality within Society
Normality is to be different. Every person is a different person. And one day you need to be
aware of your difference. Aware that you are not the same as the others. That is to be normal.
Through his quote, Alejandro Jodorowsky creates a reflection upon what he thinks the idea of
normality in society should be. ( Alejandro Jodorowsky Quotes. BrainyQuote.com). In the Curious
Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Haddon alludes the idealistic thoughts on normality in today
s society. In the world today, society expects the individuals to conform to what is thoughtto be
normal. As humans, one strives to adapt to societal standards. Normality within society is
considered something different for those that refuse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, Through Christopher s understanding of relationships, Haddon unveils the reality of the
idealistic thoughts of normality in society. Society thinks a relationship is to mutually love and
respect and trust one another. It s considered normal to show affection if you care for someone.
Christopher has an inability to express his feelings of love. And Father said, Christopher do you
understand that I love you? And I said Yes , because loving someone is helping them when they
get into trouble, and looking after them, and telling the truth, (87) Despite the normality society
has put on relationships, every person has their own opinion on how a relationship works. The
normality of relationships is only an ideal standard. Contrary to what most believe as a typical
relationship, some don t express their thoughts and feelings in the same way. Haddon shows his
readers that just because there are standards to what a relationship should be like, doesn t mean
everyone has to abide by those standards. The love Christopher s parents have for him is one
sided, they can t expect him to feel the same way. (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night
Time). Normality is a standard and the standard society has on relationships are unattainable
considering all people are different. Lastly, Haddon lets us into Christopher s world and allows us to
be able to understand Christopher. He uses Christophers language and communication to unveil the
reality of the idealistic thoughts

general public in order to inform them about internet addiction.
3.I chose paragraph 6 as is really detailed with statistics of when it first started compared to today
and also he includes professional analysis. This paragraph does support the thesis because it states
there is a percentage addicted to the internet.
Thinking Critically about the Reading
1.Beato uses statistics and works of professionals to support his thesis. They are reliable sources as
they are real and can be proven not made information.
2.The authors tone in the essay is informative and in a way worried about internet addiction. I
captured my attention in then reading because it made me realized there is a problem with this
addiction.

Archetypal Journey In Little Miss Sunshine And As I Lay Dying

The hero of this film is the father, Richard Hoover. his purpose for going on this journey is to
change. He has put his work life in front of his family, and through this his goal is to get closer to
his family. In comparison to our model, he is most similar to Jewel Bundren. Both characters are
abusive towards their family, one of the strongest members, and something is above their
family; for Jewel it is his horse, and as stated earlier, Richard it is his job (Typeset World). Sheryl
Hoover can be looked at as a shape shifter, in relation to her loving her husband, but then at times
be completely frustrated with him and wanting a divorce (Archetypes). She is most relatable to
Anse Bundren, the father of the Bundren s. Both of them are quite and can never stick with
their decisions. Both of them promised their family members, and also take their children on
their crazy journey. Looking at Olive Hoover, she would be considered the child since she is
innocent and completely unaware of her surrounding, like when Stan attempted to kill himself
(Character Archetypes). Olive is quite similar to the youngest Bundren, Vardaman. Both
children are innocent and are naive to what is going on in their lives. For example, Olive s
innocence is shown when she asks about Stan s bandages; she says, Why did you want to kill
yourself unaware of his situation (Little Miss Sunshine Script). This is similar to Vardaman
asking Why ain t I a town boy since he is not cognisant of the outside world (Faulkner 66). One of
the most closely related characters in Little Miss Sunshine and our archetypal model, As I Lay
Dying, is Grandpa Edwin Hoover and Addie Bundren. Both are a curse to their family in their
traveling (Typeset World). They would both be considered the world; they are showing the an
ending of a cycle of life , passing away, and

EU Design s Rise in the Apparel and Fashion Industry
Current Management Style EU Design s management style was founded in a very small business
environment. There was little standardization of individual tasks. In a small business, everyone on
staff is expected to be involved in all day to day business activities. This creates a very informal
relationship between workers and management. In addition to the small business aspect, EU
Design is in a creative industry. Many of the people in this industry are not trained or educated in
formal business practices. A creative mindset takes precedence over the structure of the business.

Regular videoconference meetings with the staff of both offices can be implemented. Given the
time difference one office would have to come in very early or the other office would stay late.
This may be difficult but should be adhered to so all employees are receiving the same
information. This could be tried on a monthly basis. These meetings would help to create a more
cohesive environment between New York and Hong Kong. This would also give the Hong Kong
office a chance to provide requested feedback to New York. As a supplement, an online open
forum for questions from one office can be posted and answered by the other office when it opens.
Incentive Systems
Currently there is no formal incentive system. Many of the rewards are based on Berardi s
perception of employee performance. If he does not have the opportunity to have direct
communication with all employees, it is a possibility that he is not able to appropriately assess
individual performances. The employees themselves felt that above standard performance was not
always noted. This sometimes resulted in sub optimal achievements being recognized while the
employee going the extra mile was getting passed over.
A new incentive system must include a formal evaluation method of employee performance. In
order to evaluate, official job descriptions must be written to use as a benchmark. These descriptions
give the employees the framework within which to efficiently

determine when things are right and when things are wrong. To kill or not to kill? To abuse or
not to abuse? To hurt or not to hurt? In the nursing profession, as in all major health professional
fields, nurses are bound to a certain Nurse s Code of Ethics (Kelly, 2010). Obey the code, and a
registered nurse can potentially live a long healthy career in the nursing field. Violate the nurse s
code of ethics, and one can seek penalties including but not limited to fines, fees, revocation,
license suspension, probation, and even imprisonment. So what exactly happens to a Nurse who
disobeys the code of ethics? The case between the State of Florida vs Mr. D.R.O. helps in getting
a better understanding of what happens when a registered healthcare professional, in this case a
Nurse, challenges the nursing code of ethics. Is the verdict appropriate in the defendant s case?
Were the consequences adequately applicable to the damages the defendant imposed? How can
future and active registered nurses avoid situations like this in their career? Although the concept
of ethics and the answers to some of these questions can seem common sense to most of us, in

Why The Hundred Years War Began
1.One of the major reasons to why the Hundred Years War began had to do with the control over
Flanders. Though it was in French fief, they did not have full control over it. Both England and
France wanted control over it, so it created tension between both countries. To add on to that, the
English King wanted to be on the French Throne. This made the friction even worse and eventually
led to the war. One of the advantaged that Englandhad was a good transition from a feudal state to
modern state, unlike the French, where their transition made them weak. Also, the English had a
much stronger military due to their weaponry. But, one of Frances advantages was the size of their
population. Also, the French had home turf advantage, and as a country,... Show more content on

Both Luther and Zwingli formed their ideas about the Church from Erasmus. They also both went
against the sale of indulgences, which is also what Erasmus was against. They are also similar
because they both found that what the Church was teaching was not at all in Scripture. Though
they had many of the same ideas, they in fact did have different thought too. For example, Luther
believed the Eucharist WAS the body and blood of Jesus Christ while Zwingli thought that the
Eucharist was just a symbol for it. Calvin opposed to Luther in the about same way that Zwingli
did. The Protestant Reformation was still in affect even though it split into many groups. I would
think that because they were all still trying to teach the same goal, to protest against the Church.
3.The reason why the Protestant Reformation was because the entire country didn t believe in
one religion. You could say that the religions were more of a city to city way of doing it. While
in countries like Italy, where the entire country has one religion. It is easier to protest in a small
city, while in one united country where the protestor would be denied. Also the Church had less
power in these scattered cities. This is why it would be so hard to start the Protestant Reformation

The Simulation Design Score Affects The Participant...

The goal of ordinary least squares (OLS) regression is to best predict one variable?s behavior
against another. For example, I would like to predict a participant?s Clinical Judgment Score
against the simulation?s Simulation Design Score. My research question is Does the Simulation
Design Score affect the participant Clinical Judgment Score? My hypothesis is that as the
Simulation Design Score increases the participant?s Clinical Judgment Score will also increase.
Therefore concluding the better the design of the simulation experience the better the participant
will learn clinical judgement skills. If the variables are positively correlated, as the Simulation
Design Scores increases the participants? Clinical Judgment Scores will increase. If the variables
are negatively correlated, as the Simulation Design Scores increase the participants? Clinical
Judgment Scores would decrease. If Clinical Judgment Scores do not react consistently in relation
to Simulation Design Scores, they are either non linear or are not correlated. 2.???????How does
regression work (statistically, what happens when you perform a regression)? To continue my
hypothetical research question: I would run a simulation and afterwards each participant would

  • 2. Spanish American Imperialism When it comes to the topic of the Spanish American War of 1898, most Americans may believe humanitarian aspects influenced the United States role in Cuba. In a way, the public thought America would be freeing Cuba from the atrocities the Spaniards had laid upon them. One source about the reconcentration camps outlines what the Cubans faced, Four hundred and sixty women and children thrown on the ground, heaped pell mell as animals, some in a dying condition, others sick and others dead... Sources such as these portrayed aspects of yellow journalism which exaggerated stories and influenced the emotions of the American public. Where the people s argument ends, is whether or not freeing Cubafrom Spanish rule was the sole reason behind American... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although these historians do not believe Social Darwinism led to America becoming a world power, they do agree imperialism in the United States was led by their economic need. In the previous quote by William McKinley, this claim of an economic need is supported, as the president clearly states that acquiring the Philippines would greatly increase American trade. Additionally, in a speech by the former senator of Indiana, Albert J. Beveridge, America s economic reasons for becoming involved in the Spanish American war are portrayed. The text exemplifies, in Cuba, alone, there are 15,000,000 acres of forest unacquainted with the axe. There are exhaustless mines of iron... There are millions of acres yet explores... It means new employment and better wages for every laboring man in the Union . This entire quote is the senator marveling over the economic possibilities if the United States were to acquire Cuba. If the America s motivation was simply to free the Cubans from Spanish rule, than Beveridge would not have uttered these words at all during his speech. The truth is the United States wanted to increase their economic dominance as well, for it is difficult to become a world power without financial stability. By expanding American markets into Cuba, the United States can reap the benefits from the resources Cuba has but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mary Musgrove s Role In Native American History The diverse recognitions and accomplishments of many famous historical Native American women has created them to be viewed as heroic figures, ultimately causing them to influence and improve Native American history. Mary Musgrove was born in 1700 in Georgia, and was a member of the Cherokee. She was a colonial American translator and negotiator for English and Yamacraw ancestry. She facilitated in the development of Colonial Georgia and became an important negotiator between the Muscogee Creek Indians and the English colonists. These two distinct societies caused Musgrove to bridge the gap between them, ultimately causing her to become a cultural mediator, who not only translated but advised those who acknowledged her capabilities and hardships. After many years of attempting to unite two diverse worlds, she died in her sleep in 1767. The Bureau of Indian Affairs commissioned Charles Bird King to paint portraits of her and her husband. • 4. The History of Caterpillar Engines Essay The History of Caterpillar Engines The start of Caterpillar engines actually begins before Caterpillar was even a company. The history began back in the late1800 s when Daniel Best and Benjamin Holt were experimenting with various forms of steam tractors used for farming. The two competed with each other to gain the lead in the farm equipment industry. Throughout the late 1800 s and early 1900 s Holt and Best continued to build both steam and gas tractors. In 1908 Best sold his company to Holt. In 1925 Holt Manufacturing and C. L. Best Gas Tractor, a company owned by Best s son C. L. Best, merged to form Caterpillar Tractor Company. Three years later C. L. Best met with Carl George Arthur Rosen to discuss putting diesel engines in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This housing then directs the compressed air into the engine. After the use of the turbocharger they discovered a new problem. The compressed air was much hotter than normal air going into the engine. The reason was that when the air is compressed it puts pressure on all the atoms. This causes the atoms to hit each other, causing friction, and move even faster. These rapid movements cause a massive amount of heat. This excess heat caused less oxygen to get to the cylinders which means a loss of potential power. Our answer to this dilemma was the aftercooler. Aftercoolers are used to lower the temperature of the air after it comes out of the turbo but before it enters the engine. By lowering the temperature the air becomes denser and holds more oxygen. This increase in oxygen provides an increase in power. There are three types of aftercoolers. The first is an Air to Air Aftercooler (ATAAC). With the air to air system, a separate cooler core is placed in front of the engine. The engine fan then passed outside air across the cooler. The outside air is much colder than the compressed air in the cooler. This difference causes the compressed air to drop in temperature by losing its heat to the outside air. This method is very common on most on highway trucks since they have access to a large volume of fresh cool air. The second type of aftercooler is the Jacket Water Aftercooler ... The Psychology Of Childhood Social And Emotional Development Matilda Comenote Anita Newman English 24 Senior project November 30th, 2015 Title Psychology helps us understand the way humans think and how our brain functions, this may also include certain behaviors in any given situation. My research is based on the psychology of childhood social and emotional development, and adolescence. Like a lot of things in psychology and this world, this has led my research to prove their is a direct correlation between social and emotional development in children and the entirety of adolescence. Emotional development during childhood is a crucial step in the early stages of life. This process is needed for success in adulthood and throughout life. Emotional development is defined as The emergence of a child s experience, expression, understanding, and regulation of emotions from birth to late adolescence, this also comprises of how growth and changes in these processes concerning emotions occur. Since emotions are among the first to develop it s important to make this a healthy growth as emotions begin to mature and progress. Shonkoff was determined from the start of the NAS committee process that From Neurons to Neighborhoods would be much more than a report that was released, discussed for a few days, and then forgotten, and he promised that to prospective members of the Committee. It was a period where Native Americans in the U.S were forcefully relocated following the removal of Indian Removal Act of 1830. Those who were forcibly moved were from Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole, and Chickasaw and Choctaw nations in the southern U.S, an area initially referred to as the Indian Territory. Migration from Cherokee nation had begun in the early 1800 s where some Cherokee s decided to move and settle in other parts of the country. A group of Old Settlers had moved there earlier in 1817 voluntarily to lands granted to them in Arkansas where they had a peaceful life. Afterward, they were forced to move into the I Indian Territory (A. White communities turned against their Cherokee neighbors due to the thirst for expansion and gold. Without consulting or questions asked, the U.S government decided that Cherokee had to be removed, leaving their lands, home and farm. Before their removal, the five groups lived together being referred to as the Five Civilized Groups. The white settlers from the southeast had been pressurizing the U.S government to remove the Native Americans. These settlers were on the Indian lands and wanted more for them. • 8. Analysis Of The Novel Franny And Zooey By J.d. Salinger Human life is a blend of myriad of emotions. Our emotions add facets to our humanity they give us dimensions and make us the social, emotional and intellectual beings we are. People go through both good and rough times. While some persevere through these times, some crack and acquire fissures. In the novella Franny and Zooeyby J.D. Salinger, Franny Glass is undergoing a similar identity and existential crisis which severely derails her life. Disenchanted by the superficiality of the world surrounding her, Franny embarks on a process of purgation, distancing herself from the world along the way. Franny s folly in assuming that the change she is looking for can only be achieved by detaching herself from her life, the things that matter the most to her, starting anew, shows her dogmatic approach to self purification. In seeking union with reality which is what the mystical experience is, she leaves the reality of her life behind herself, resulting in her ending up stranded in a perilous path of self questioning. Franny Glass is on a journey of self discovery. Driven by the notion that everything and everyone she knows is selfish and phony, Franny tries to imitate a life of seclusion and monastic living. She is influenced by her brother Seymour s way of life, his philosophies and the book The Way of A Pilgrim she finds on his desk. The book recounts the story of a Russian monk who goes around ceaselessly saying the name of Godin hopes of connecting more closely with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were many obstacles I had to overcome and deal with the uncomfortableness. After wearing the belly for only a few short hours, I now have even more sympathy for women who have to go through this for nine months. I experienced many symptoms while wearing the belly. • 12. Dick Hebdige Analysis When words fail, music speaks. This saying is commonly used to support the power that humans give music over words, to the point that they are represented better by song lyrics then their own voice. This leads to the rise of certain styles of music that a group of individuals can relate to and find comfort in. Throughout history it has been evident how certain genres of music have been associated with a type of culture because it represents their struggles and voices their thoughts. However, music does not always speak the correct way for everyone. People also tend to take lyrics and interpret them differently than what the original artist intended them to mean. Misinterpretation can cause a lot of controversy, especially if the meaning of a song opposes a certain culture, or individual. By comparing Dick Hebdige s article The Meaning of Styles and Macklemore s song White Privilege, one can analyze how music can be appropriated by other ethnicities. Hence, one can further understand the controversy that arises... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, throughout the years Hip hop began to be appropriated by Caucasians. This can be seen in White Privilege, where Macklemore speaks up about how Hip hop has begun to lose its earning because Caucasians are favored in the genre that did not even began with them. Furthermore, this song causes a great amount of controversy and backlash to Macklemore, especially from whites who felt offended by his lyrics. Thus, the controversy that arose caused people to overlook the meaning behind White Privilege. They viewed this song as one who focused solely on targeting the lifestyle of white, instead of viewing the original meaning which was to acknowledge and raise awareness to the fact that Hip Hop was an art created by African Americans. • 14. Commercial Fishing In New England Commercial fishing in New England is not sustainable. Commercial fishing is the catching of fish for profit and, as with other profit making activities, there are trade offs between a pure capitalistic market and the damage it does to resources. For commercial fishing, this trade off is that the more fishthe fishermen catch, the more damage it does to the fish population. To make commercial fishing sustainable, large regulations need to be in place, as Jack said. However, large regulations of a free market are usually not accepted in America and would not be put in place in time to save the fish and sustain commercial fishing. The population of many fish species have decreased drastically through the years and, even with current regulations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The definition of Capitalism according to Merriam Webster is an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods, by investments that are determined by private decision, and by prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined mainly by competition in a Free Market. This means that the free market, or in this case commercial fishing, is not controlled by the government because that is the definition of capitalism. Having big restrictions on fishing would be seen as a restriction of the free market. Although regulations are put on the free market, the size of regulations needed to sustain fish population and save commercial fishing would not be tolerated by many political parties. The regulations would never be put in place. Unless America changes its capitalist view, the large regulations needed to sustain commercial fishing will not happen. The changes needed for sustainable fishing are too big and do not fit with America s view of the economic system. Unfortunately, without these changes, the fish population will continue to decline. So, you can see that sustainable fishing in new England is not possible. • 16. Comparison Between Hamlet And Hamlet Hamlet Vs. Hamlet: A Comparison Between Films Laurence Olivier (1948) and Kenneth Branagh (1996) both created films about the Shakespearean play Hamlet, yet they are both very different. The two films were created fifty years apart and present their film using their own perspectives and interpretations of Shakespeare s Hamlet while using the same themes Shakespeare had. Two important themes are the use of technology and treatment of women. In Laurence Olivier s 1948 film, women are objectified; this reflects on the year of production. The abuse in the character roles were more admissibly shown by gender roles. Hamlet is presented as a very controlling person and is very controlling of Ophelia. He manipulates her into having sex with him and shows other forms of relentless abuse towards Ophelia. Furthermore, Hamlet reveals no other signs of affection for her other those of lust. Unlike the version filmed by Kenneth Branagh in 1996, the date filmed is an important factor, as it demonstrated how men interacted with women. In Olivier s film, Hamlet is stereotypically masculine monotonous and aggressive. In the beginning of the first scene, Hamlet appears to be emotionless, until he abruptly points to Claudius and aggressively yells All but one! The scene ends with Hamlet exerting his power over Ophelia by throwing Ophelia to the ground and leaving her on the steps to lure Polonius and Claudius out from behind the curtain. Hamlet realizes what he has done to Ophelia, but leaves the room without helping her up or apologizes for what he has done, even though his plan had failed. It is clear that Hamlet s plan to use Ophelia as bait had failed because they could not have seen him or Ophelia from their side of the curtain. Polonius confirms this when he says, No need to tell us, we have heard it all . In contrast, Kenneth s Hamlet stops once he sees what he had done to Ophelia and goes back to her. Kenneth s Hamlet is more emotional. He sheds tears, expresses pain in his voice, deeply sighs, and overall is less physical with Ophelia. These differences between Kenneth and Olivier s versions of the character Hamlet reflect the era of which they were created. In Olivier s time, abuse of women was permitted; a man ... Pigmentary Uveitis is also known as Golden Retriever Uveitis, cystic glaucoma, or the shortened name of PU. PU is thought to have originated from the Northeastern part of the United States, and was mostly in Golden Retrievers. PU also affects crossbred dogs with Golden s such as Goldendoodles. Although it is present in crossbreds, the disease still mainly affects Golden Retrievers. This is a genetic disease that affects the eye, and the eye only. Uveitis is an inflammation of the uveal tract, which includes the iris (Golden RetrieverUveitis). PU is usually diagnosed around the age of 8.6 years. Which means if they were breeding dogs, they would have already passed it on to their offspring. This genetic disease could spread very quickly, considering the signs are not visible until after they have had offspring. Since breeding programs outside of the United States have different certification standards, researchers do not know if PU has spread to other countries at this time. Pigmentary Uveitis is usually diagnosed around the age of 8.6 years, although there are cases that have reported as early as 2.5 years old (Sullivan, T., DVM) and the oldest was 14.5 years old (Sapienza, J., DVM). This symbol is both in a literal and a figurative sense. Esperanza literally starts at the top in Mexico. She lives on acres of land in a beautiful vineyard, she has servants, and is well educated. But when trouble arrives, Esperanza must go to the bottom of the valley in California. Here she has nothing; she lives in a small house in an immigrant farm, she works hard every day, and she does not know any English. Life as she knew it had completely changed. Migrating to a new place that is unknown, everyone is new, and the language is not known is a grueling change and as a young child this must have been very difficult for Esperanza to handle. In Esperanza s eyes every step she takes just brings her lower and lower into the valley. Nothing seems to be going right, it is almost as if the figurative mountain Esperanza must climb keeps growing taller. In Esperanza s eyes she was taken from her perfect world and placed into a world where she could no longer feel the heart beat of the earth (MuГ±oz Ryan 92). This was detrimental to her, for she had no idea what to do next; she had given up. The instructor completely tore her work apart because of her way of organization. Now in the world of design, most teachers get very upset when the work is hung crocked on the wall. But this was not the case with my friend. Her work was simply torn apart because of the direction she hung her pictures. • 52. Agritech Pros And Cons Biotechnology is the manipulation of microorganisms, through DNA manipulation and bioprocess manipulation for industrial, health, and food industries. Although, there are many different types of biotechnologies; agriculture is the leading type of biotechnology that has affected humans for thousands of years and will continue to make a large impact for the future of humanity. What exactly is agricultural biotechnology? Agricultural biotechnology, or agritech, is a combination of tools to improve or manipulate microorganisms, or parts thereof, for agricultural use such as bacteria resistant, improve crop yield, and the list goes on. Biotechnology, in specifies, agricultural biotechnology has been used for thousands of years. Scientists do not have a specific date as to when agritech was first utilized, but they have concluded that approximately ten thousand to twenty thousand years BC, early humans domesticated plants and animals. Overtime, the desired plants and animals were bred the desired, and overall better quality plants and animals were selectively bred. Thus overtime, unknowingly... Biotechnology, and its many different fields have been a controversial topic for many, many years. Sparking the idea that it has moral and ethical issues which in certain eyes it does. Many people believe that it s playing God, or gods, and even playing mother nature. Many believe that altering genes and other biological processes should remain in the hand of whomever is the upper being. Where mankind should not play with things that we do not truly understand; where we are just playing around. Many religious groups believe that God, gods, and/or mother nature should be the one who can alter the species, and that Humans are here to live amongst it and not change it to our ... • 53. Why The Hundred Years War Began 1.One of the major reasons to why the Hundred Years War began had to do with the control over Flanders. Though it was in French fief, they did not have full control over it. Both England and France wanted control over it, so it created tension between both countries. To add on to that, the English King wanted to be on the French Throne. This made the friction even worse and eventually led to the war. One of the advantaged that Englandhad was a good transition from a feudal state to modern state, unlike the French, where their transition made them weak. Also, the English had a much stronger military due to their weaponry. But, one of Frances advantages was the size of their population. Also, the French had home turf advantage, and as a country,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both Luther and Zwingli formed their ideas about the Church from Erasmus. They also both went against the sale of indulgences, which is also what Erasmus was against. They are also similar because they both found that what the Church was teaching was not at all in Scripture. Though they had many of the same ideas, they in fact did have different thought too. For example, Luther believed the Eucharist WAS the body and blood of Jesus Christ while Zwingli thought that the Eucharist was just a symbol for it. Calvin opposed to Luther in the about same way that Zwingli did. The Protestant Reformation was still in affect even though it split into many groups. I would think that because they were all still trying to teach the same goal, to protest against the Church. 3.The reason why the Protestant Reformation was because the entire country didn t believe in one religion. You could say that the religions were more of a city to city way of doing it. While in countries like Italy, where the entire country has one religion. It is easier to protest in a small city, while in one united country where the protestor would be denied. Also the Church had less power in these scattered cities. This is why it would be so hard to start the Protestant Reformation in a place like France or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Simulation Design Score Affects The Participant... Vanessa Schott Written Comprehensive Exam 1.???????What is the goal of ordinary least squares (OLS) regression? (OLS is the formal name of the typical kind of regression analysis) The goal of ordinary least squares (OLS) regression is to best predict one variable?s behavior against another. For example, I would like to predict a participant?s Clinical Judgment Score against the simulation?s Simulation Design Score. My research question is Does the Simulation Design Score affect the participant Clinical Judgment Score? My hypothesis is that as the Simulation Design Score increases the participant?s Clinical Judgment Score will also increase. Therefore concluding the better the design of the simulation experience the better the participant will learn clinical judgement skills. If the variables are positively correlated, as the Simulation Design Scores increases the participants? Clinical Judgment Scores will increase. If the variables are negatively correlated, as the Simulation Design Scores increase the participants? Clinical Judgment Scores would decrease. If Clinical Judgment Scores do not react consistently in relation to Simulation Design Scores, they are either non linear or are not correlated. 2.???????How does regression work (statistically, what happens when you perform a regression)? To continue my hypothetical research question: I would run a simulation and afterwards each participant would evaluate the simulation using the Simulation Design Scale. Next ...
