The Miami Dolphins Football Team
The Miami Dolphins, a professional football team located in Miami, Florida, has been a part of
the National Football League (NFL) since 1966. The organization is most notably known for the
1972 Miami Dolphins football team, led by Don Shula, who went undefeated a won the Super
Bowl. This team was the first and, so far, only team to have a perfect season capped off with
winning the championship game. From 1966 to 1970 the Miami Dolphinswere perceived like they
are today as a losing franchise that could not win. That was until Don Shula, helped make the
Dolphins one of the best franchises in the national football leagueduring his reign as head coach.
The time period from 1970 to 1993 were the golden years of the organization s history; during
this time the Miami Dolphins won 13 AFC East Titles, 5 AFC Championships, 2 Super Bowls
and in 1973 set the league record 74,961 season ticket sales. During this time period the team had
star players Larry Csonka, Dan Marino, Bob Griese, and several others that helped to build and
sustain the Dolphins legacy. Since 1993 the Miami Dolphins have been known for holding three
fantastic super bowls in 1994, 2006, and 2009, all of which were great games that the Dolphins
were not involved in. While in recent years the Miami Dolphins have gone back to the original
roots of field losing teams, the organization has developed a marketing strategy to improve the
financial situation of the organization and maintain fan support. The Miami Dolphins

Jack The Ripper Conspiracy Theory Essay
What Is The Governmental/Popularly Accepted Version? The version of the conspiracy theory
that is popularly accepted is that the person believed to have been Jack The Ripper was indeed
him. H. H. Holmes was a separate person and separate issue. H. H. Holmes is believed to have
been prosecuted before Jack The Ripper surfaced, making this more acceptable. How Did The
Theory Originate And Gain Popularity? This theory originated when a descendant of H. H. Holmes
(his great great grandson), Jeff Mudgett, thought that the two had similarities in killing styles and
M.O. s. As he did at home research he found things that intrigued him to go further into
investigation. The further he went the more likely his accusations/theory seemed to be. He even...

Amidst holiday crowds were Joseph and Elizabeth Mahoney, a young married couple ... their

The Venezuelan Revolution
This will be as much a tale about the Venezuelan people as it is about a returning immigrant who
knows his homeland largely from memories and media. Though my experiences have shaped my
outlook, my intention is to enter the country as a neutral and impartial writer, cognizant of daily
life, yet oblivious to the fiery political discourse which consumes too many discussions.
This project s purpose is to record a people who have lived through the promises and outcomes of
the Bolivarian Revolution, an idea that captured Venezuelas spirit and spread across 16 Latin
America nations as the Pink Tide. The poor and working class will be a fundamental component
of this story as I investigate the role the revolution has played in shaping the lives of this
perpetually overlooked group of people. Simultaneously, the nature of these issues will create a
portal into the world of Venezuelan heritage, traditions, and political and civic culture. What I write
will be the reality of the situation; the interpretation will be left up to the reader.

The Roman Spectacle Of Ancient Society
The Roman Spectacle Today one can be a spectator in every sport via sports networks, and billion
dollar stadiums, and arenas. While modern day sports vary drastically and so do their playing
fields, in the Roman Empire one sport reigned supreme the sport of Chariot racing.
Few forms of entertainment enjoyed as great of a level of devotion and longevity than that of
Chariot racing. The sport of chariot racing was an integral part of Roman society and wherever the
Romans went, chariot racing when with them, as evidenced by the tracks in North Africa, England,
and elsewhere in the Empire. This seems like an unlikely connection to the casual observer, but for
one who looks deeper into the Roman society and government they will see that sports were at the
heart of the Roman Empire. This sport was unique in Roman society, because it brought together
people from different backgrounds, cultures and ranking in Roman society. This widespread
popularity gave this and other sports played a unique roll in Roman society. The popular nature
of the races lent a particular kind of political power to the fans and was great enough to affect
cultural and political life in Roman society. The races did not only afford the common Roman
power, but it was a tool used by Rome s leaders to appease the populace. The Roman people
wanted their theater and Rome s leaders were more than obliged to give it to them what they
wanted. Tarquinius Priscus, the fifth king of Rome in the sixth

Ancient Civilization Paper
Ancient Civilization Paper
Do you remember the story of Jacob in the Bible? I do, and as I think about how while he was in
Egypt, God gave him the knowledge, skill, and forethought for the preparation for store houses
when the great famine struck the land. This reminds me of how difficult times were in early
civilization. As I studied the textbook, World Civilizations: volume 1: to 1700, I see how far our
civilization has come. I will cover most of the things that made the different cultures better, such as;
advances in technology, major trade routes established, the cultures who utilized the specific trade
routes, and the advancement that agriculture and trade made to influence individual civilizations.
Starting in the Paleolithic Age, times were hard, they worked extremely hard for everything they
could find. The family unit was their society, not until later in time did that grow into communities.
It was at the beginning of the Neolithic Age when the breakthrough began regarding social
organization. In this era, they depended on hunting wild game and gathering wild plants for food.
In the Holocene era, (a geologic age beginning about 12,000 B.C.E. to the present) the world
experienced a dramatic shift to a generally warmer and somewhat drier climate. As conditions
became drier, human groups were forced to settle near surviving bodies of water and to adopt
methods for producing, rather than hunting and foraging for their food. The gradual adoption of
agriculture demanded

Dehydration Of Sulfuric Acid And Phosphoric Acid
Dehydration of 2 methylcyclohexanol Authors: Johnny Presley Abstract: Dehydration of 2
methylcyclohexanol to 3 methylcyclohexene is simple distillation where dehydration was used to
prepare the final product. The results of the experiment showed that the 3 methylcyclohexene
was formed via an E1 reaction from 2 methylcyclohexanol with a 1:1 ratio of sulfuric acid and
phosphoric acid. However, some H2O was left over, which was seen when we look at the IR and
see a small water peak. This could be due to the fact that not enough sodium sulfate was added
and not for long enough. These results were confirmed by the quality tests that showed that a
precipitate formed when KMnO4 was added to the solution and in the IR spectroscopy peaks
showed peaks at 3022.62cm 1 which matches an alkene, further showing that the formation of 3
methylcyclohexene was successful with a percent yield of 56.46%. Introduction: The major
reaction that happened was an E1 reaction (otherwise known as a unimolecular elimination
reaction). In this reaction the removal of an HX substituent group results in the formation of a
double bond via beta hydrogen elimination4. In an E1 reaction the deprotonation of hydrogen in
the beta position occurs and from here a carbocation is formed, which results in the formation of
an alkene product. This happens when the OH group on the 2 methylcyclohexanol is hydrated by
H2SO4, which allows the OH to become an H2O. Since H20 is a better leaving group now it will

Hiroshima And The Atomic Bomb
On August 6th, 1945, the United States of America dropped the atomic bomb in Hiroshima,
Japan. This bomb decimated over two hundred thousand Japanese citizens, and caused the
Empire of Japan to surrender ending World War II. In his book Hiroshima, John Heresy reveals
the stories of six survivors, and how their lives were changed following the bombing. As you
might expect, the time succeeding the attack was rather hectic. Even more so for physicians and
nurses, as thousands of people were rushing towards them for medical assistance. Two
physicians, Dr. Masakazu Fujii, and Dr. Terufumi Sasaki, have survived to tell their stories. Dr.
Fujii ran a hospital that overlooked a river. When the bomb exploded, Dr. Fujii was blown off
his feet and landed in the water along with the remnants of his hospital. Dr. Sasaki was much
luckier than Dr. Fujii, because he remained uninjured and immediately started caring for those
close to him. At the time the bomb exploded, Reverend Mr. Kiyoshi Tanimoto is helping a friend
move his daughter s belongings and Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge, who was recently suffering
from a stomach illness, was resting on his porch. Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura had three children,
and when the bomb exploded, she was looking out the window. She gathers her children from
the wreckage, and takes them to Asano Park, which was designed for use as an evacuation area.
Miss Toshiko Sasaki is a clerk, and when the bomb exploded, was at her office. Debris landed on

Siddhartha-the Shape of Time Essay
For many Westerners, more specifically the driven citizens of the United States of America,
time is viewed as a straight line. Our children realize this, consciously or not, early on. They
make timelines in school, their classes switch on the hour, their intelligence is measured on a
scale. We are born, we come of age during adolescence. We set a goal, we work to achieve
success. Birth and death, childhood and adulthood are stages that occur only once. Life is black
and white. Separate. The past is the past, the future is the future. Traveling on a straight line, we
can only look forwards.
Eastern philosophy, on the other hand, might view time as a circle, a spiral, a figure eight. Time has

It was this idea that Hesse built Siddhartha on. It was this idea that allowed Siddhartha to be
reincarnated not in terms of physical life, but rather in terms of spirit.
Lao Tzu, credited with penning the Tao Te Ching, noted that a good traveler has no fixed plans/and
is not intent on arriving. Thus, he rejected the linear concept of time, as did Siddhartha as he made
his journey.
The book opens with the title character s decision to leave his traditional Hindu community and
upbringing to seek Atman through asceticism. Siddhartha and his friend, Govinda, adopt the life of
the Samanas. Siddhartha thinks, waits, and fasts. He struggles to free himself from The Self: the
materialistic, mortal part of him. But he is anxious to attain a state of bliss. As a young Brahmin,
he was always the strongest, the cleverest, the fastest. He expects to find the most efficient way to
Atman, just as he excelled in every other area of his life. The ascetic life disappoints him.
Siddhartha replied: `How old, do you think, is our oldest Samana, our worthy teacher?
Govinda said: `I think the eldest would be about sixty years old.
And Siddhartha said: `He is sixty years old and has not attained Nirvana. He will be seventy and
eighty years old, and you and I, we shall grow as old as he, and do exercises and fast

Media Violence And Crime Violence
Media Violence and Crimes
There are few debates that have been contentious for so long as the debate of whether violent
medias contribute meaningfully to crimes. Because of the majority of shooting events committed
by younger shooters, many politicians regard cultural effects as a potential contributing factor,
while others dismiss media as a contributing factor. Within the social science community, a similar
division exists (Ferguson, 2015). For example, some professional supporting groups, like the
American Psychological Association (APA), released policy statements of a clear association
between media violence and societal aggression (Ferguson, 2015). On the contrast, actively, a group
of estimated 230 media scholars, criminologists, and psychologists wrote an open letter to the APA.
In this letter, they asked APA to withdraw their policy statements and cease from making casual
speculation.
Does media violence immediately cause the increasing number of violent crimes? In 2000, the
Federal Trade Commission(FTC) made a survey for the scientific evidence and the warning of
negative influences of media violence (Dahl Vigna, 2009). Simultaneously, the American Medical
Association, with five other public health organizations, revealed the threat of exposure to media
violence.
However, the evidence, showed in the reports of this survey, does not prove an obvious link
between media violence and violent crime (Dahl Vigna, 2009). The experiments, conducted by the
FTC in their

Analysis Of John Keats s The Civil War
Shelby Foote, a southern novelist turned historian, uses the prologue in The Civil War, a three
book, three thousand page epic on America s most seminal moment, to introduce the war s
leading figures, Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis. Foote uses the words of poet John Keats,
A fact is not a truth until you love it. to describe his view on history. Using this axiom, Foote
attempts to change the reader s mind on their understanding of Lincoln and Davis. Not only does
he want to prove to us that using primary sources in his analysis of Lincoln and Davis will give us
a better understanding of the two, but he wants us to appreciate his techniques as well. He

18 19). Lincoln grew up dirt poor in the bare Kentucky frontier, his mother dying when he was
nine years old, and his father having a paltry, insignificant relationship with the young Abraham.
Lincoln quoted Thomas Gray s poem, Elegy, when describing the conditions of his youth, The
short and simple annals of the poor. (pg. 20). As soon as he could, he sought independence from
his father and began life on his own. He eventually settled in New Salem, Illinois where he
joined the Debating Society. As Foote puts it, though at first the charter members snickered at
his looks and awkwardness, presently they were admiring the logic and conciseness of his
arguments (pg. 22). One member of the society claimed all he lacked was culture (pg. 22).
Lincoln was respected for his intelligence, but derided for his social skills and poor background.
Certainly this part of Lincoln s life is of the least importance, but it serves a purpose for Foote,
who aims to portray Lincoln in a more vulnerable part of his life, when he wasn t revered like he
would later be, but viewed with pity as a backwoods hick. This serves as a shock to the reader,
disarming us of any romantic notions we have of Lincoln s early life. Lincoln unquestionably
developed into one of the most remarkable men to ever live, but, as Foote shows us, it took him
awhile to reach that status. Alongside politics, Lincoln made a name for himself as a

System and Change in Industrial Relations Analysis
Critique: System and Change in Industrial Relations Analysis As a student of industrial relations,
I am often bombarded with conflicting theories and reasons for the emergence and importance of
this field. Edmond Heery outlines and analyses the justaposition of two different views of
modeling this vast and often debated area of industrial relations. His article looks at two types of
model building in IR. First, the traditional model of systems thinking set forth by John Dunlop,
one of the pioneers of IR theory. Introduced in 1958, Dunlop s system theory of IR tries to provide
tools to understand the widest possible range of IR activities and explains why particular rules are
established in particular contexts. Dunlop argues that IR can... Show more content on

In the exogenous gradual model, IR change occurs due to gradual, cumulative change that is
driven by forces beyond the employment control. An example is globalization. In the exogenous
disjunctive model, episodes of change are interspersed with periods of stability. The change itself
is triggered into the employment relationship by some external event, like a war. In the exogenous
cyclical model, change follows a repeating cycle of decline and renewal as IR adapts to cyclical
pressures in the external environment, such as election pressures and the economy. In the
endogenous cyclical model, change occurs because of the competing drives of the actors. For
example, IR is said to be both adversarial (due to the competing interests) and cooperative (due to
interdependence of the parties). Thus IR will oscillate between adversarial and cooperative
mindsets depending on the context as the limitations of each approach become apparent to both
management and workers. In the endogenous disjunctive model, change occurs as a result of
strategic choices of the actors within the employment relations. For example, as a result of unions
traditional marginalization of women s and minorities issues, there has been an increased
mobilization of women and minorities within unions. In the endogenous gradual model, change is
gradually driven by forces internal to IR. This model stresses the maturing of IR institutions over
time, as they become more

Assessment Tools For Aged Care
Title: Assessment Tools for Aged Care in Australia
Background:
Australians over 65 are referred to as older people and make up the aged population.
The aged care sector operates under the Aged Care Act 1997 and Aged Care (Transitional
Provisions) Act 1997 that came into effect in July 2014.
As part of National Health reform in 2011, the Council of Australian Governments agreed to
transfer all funding and operational responsibility of aged care support services for people over 65
years to the Commonwealth Government. (COTA, 2014).
Public expenditure on aged care was $12.5 billion in 2011, increasing to $13.3 billion in 2012
2013. Additionally, subsidized informal care expenditure was an estimated $1.8 billion (Department
of Social Services, 2013).
Taxpayer funding makes up 93% of aged care expenditure (ARC Centre for Excellent in Population
Ageing Research, 2014).
The number of older Australians is expected to grow more than 4 times in the next 40 years to a
estimated 1.8 million people by 2050 (The Australian Government Treasury, 2010). As a result,
expenditure for aged care is projected to increase by 1% of the total GDP by 2050 (National
Seniors Australia, 2010).
Figure 1. Aged Care Expenditure as Percentage GDP (National Seniors Australia, 2010)
Major components contributing to this increasing expenditure trend are increases in income
support for seniors, residential and flexible care, home support, ageing and service improvement
and allowances for

Essay On Ser Ciapelletto Decameron
In the first story, in Decameron, Ser Ciapelletto makes himslef out to have been a great and holy
man in his last moments, although this was not the case. Ser Ciapellotto, who was about to die,
confessed all of his sins to a holy friar, but this made him seem like a great man who had lived a
virtuous life, when he was infact a wicked man. He deceived the friar, Ser Ciappelletto, who had
never been to confession, replied to him ( ). Because he deceived the friar, he was praised by
many after his death. In the second story, Day 10, Story 10, The man deceived his wife by
making her believe that he had sent for both of their children to be killed and then got rid of her to
see if, no matter what happens, she would still try to please him and listen

White Women In American Consumer Culture
From the 1890s to the 1920s women from all walks of life became participants in American
consumer culture. Whether this translated into the consumption of movies, clothing, beauty
products or household goods, women influenced and participated in the development of consumer
culture in America. Three distinct groups of women stand out in the development of consumer
culture, these include middle class white women, immigrant women and the daughters of such and
black women. These three groups of women partook in the unique experience of what it meant to be
participants in American consumer culture and at the same time were susceptible to the issues of
genderinequality, objectification and racial discrimination. Before discussing the development...

Bernarr Macfadden s book titled The Power and Beauty of Superb Womanhood published in 1901
emphasized that if women partook in vigorous exercise, they could develop strength almost equal
to a man. The New Womantook this attitude to heart by engaging in cycling, playing tennis and
swimming; activities they did not partake in before. The Power and Beauty of Superb
Womanhood delineates a shift in American culture at the turn of the century; the creation of the
New Woman and her participation in the public sphere. Lois Rudnick, author of the book titled
The New Woman states that Between 1890 and 1920 women writers and reformers made major
contributions to literature and the arts, as well as to social and political reforms. From the
Victorian age culture of the 1890s, to 1920, the year women were granted suffrage with the
nineteenth amendment; the New Woman emerged in literature, the arts and reform movements.
The New Woman was a consumer who was not guilty of partaking in leisure, self indulgence and
sensual pleasure. The white middle class woman was no longer restricted by the ideals of the
Victorian woman, but rather now enjoyed freedoms she did not have before. In the 1920s a
radical woman had emerged in the form of the flappers who wore her hair bobbed, heavy makeup,
short dresses and danced jazz. The flapper was a woman of the 1920s

Ford Mustang History
2016 2017 MUSTANG Ford of America This section in the Ford website explains in full depths all
the new specs of the new 2016 2017 Ford Mustang. The Ford Mustang brings this year for
example the new eco boost system. The eco boost system has been never seen before in other
models. The traditional Mustang has always been produced in either a 6 cylinder engine or an 8
cylinder engine. Due to numbers in sales dropping since its 1964 model, Ford Company believes
that with its new 4 cylinder eco boost engine, sales will tend to increase. In a car market ruled by
electric cars and hybrid cars, today s society is preferring miles per gallon over everything. The
Ford webpage also states each engine delivers at least 300 horsepower. The 3.7L V6 offers up 300
horsepower and 280 pounds of torque, standard on V6 Fastback model. The 2.3L Eco Boost
engines brings out 310 horsepower and 320 pounds of torques. The 5.0L V8 kicks out at 435...

in May 2016. Through the first five months of 2016, all three are selling less often this year than
they were last year (Timothy Cain, 2016). The numbers as read in the article make sense when it
comes to the Ford Mustang, which Timothy Cain states that last year sold at a pace more torrid
than anything achieved by the Mustang since before the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger
returned in the latter part of the last decade. The Mustang was brand new last year. Now, today, in
early 2016, the Mustang has out sold all its competitors and its new change and innovation is
paying off very well. These number in sales proves that the ford Mustang is worthy to take on the

A Mechanized War Poem
This poem is my favorite of the three poems we have studied because of the beautiful language
and poetic techniques it employs, and because of how realistically it portrays war. The poem
captures the horror of troops caught in the middle of a brutal and merciless war, and their
desperation. In a mechanized war, attacks take place with frightening speed and intensity, where
there is no place to run or hide, and any response is not made out of logic but of pure fear. This
hasty and irrational way of thinking fueled only by terror typically only ended in death for both
the attacker and the defender, and severe trauma for any survivors. Using a series of present
continuous verbs, the poet depicts fast evolving action. He portrays the realness... Show more

trying to grasp onto the mud, but miserably failing. Hope is described and floundering in the

soldiers. But the soldiers all know that hope is lost and dead, and woefully plea O! Jesus, make it

The World That Are Worse Than War
There aren t many things in this world that are worse than war. The proliferation of violence and
the deliberate destruction of human beings in the twentieth century were all made possible by
various groups and individuals. Conformity, prejudice, and desperation among populations all
contribute to violence and mass murder, but often the other side of the coin goes unnoticed. The
groups and individuals responsible can of course escalate acts of mass violence, but they also have
the power to stop and prevent the crimes against humanity in our history and in our future as well.

Beginning with the genesis of the Khmer Rouge, it will become clear that Cambodians endured a
period of time in which radical events might seem inevitable.
The Communist Party of Kampuchea (CPK), known also as the Khmer Rouge, emerged from
Cambodia s difficulties living as a French colony. Throughout the 1940 s, the Cambodian
communist movement was influenced by radical Vietnamese across the border. In the 1950 s,
the Indochina War set the stage for CPK to grow stronger over the next two decades. What
began as an outlying movement toward Communism, slowly formed into the radicalized force
that later controlled a nation of people. The CPK took control of Cambodia on April 17, 1975
and created the Democratic Kampuchea in 1976. The CPK was kept a secret until 1977, and
there was no way for anyone outside of the CPK to know who the party leaders were. Cambodia
under the power of the Khmer Rouge suffered immensely. Policies enforced massacres, torture,
and repression. Cambodia was turned into a massive detention center as well as a graveyard for
almost two million people. In March 1970, Marshal Lon Nol, a Cambodian who had formerly
served as prime minister, successfully executed a coup that took Prince Sihanouk out of power.
Nol was aided by pro American associates. While power in Cambodia was shuffling, the Khmer
Rouge had been gaining popularity and members to the point where they were a major player in the

Robert Smythson Research Paper
Robert Smythson was the most important architect in England in the 16th century. In fact he is the
only architect of that time known to us with any certainty (Robert)We first see Smythson in written
records from 1566 referring to the renovation of a manor house in Wiltshire called Longleat. In
April 1567 the original house caught fire and burnt down. While working on the renovation of
Longleat Smythson was a master mason, but was one of the people to involve himself in the
designing the renovation of the house. He liked to try and make everything symmetrical. It also has
a central hall. He used large windows to open the house so that the maximum amount of light from
outside could shine in. He made extroversion homes, which means... Show more content on

who believe that Wollaton Hall was his most important work. Wollaton Hall is currently the

as Wayne Manor. Given that it has a similar appearance to the building used in Batman Begins. In
Smythson s time spent working on Wollaton Hall he loved the land so much that he ended up
permanently settling in Wollaton. Where he had a son named John, who fathered a son named
Huntingdon , they both followed in Roberts footsteps and became architects. John Smythson s best

John to design, and oversee the work for the interior apartments

Survival in Auschwitz
Levi, Primo. Survival in Auschwitz; The Nazi Assault on Humanity. 1st edition. New York:
Simon and Schuster, 1996. I. Survival in Auschwitz is the unique autobiographical account of
how a young man endured the atrocities of a Nazi death camp and lived to tell the tale. Primo
Levi, a 24 year old Jewish chemist from Turin Italy, was captured by the fascist militia in
December 1943 and deported to Camp Buna Monowitz in Auschwitz. The trip by train took 4
long days in a jam packed boxcar without food or water. Once there, interrogations by the SS of
age and health determined life as a prisoner or untimely death. Levi along with hundreds of fellow
Jews were stripped of their clothes, given rags to wear, had their heads shaved... Show more content

During Levi s captivity, the Killing Machines had already been tested and were being refined
with each use. Levi describes how selections could be made at any time, anywhere. From the hut
in the early or late hours, during roll call, on the march to work, and especially in the infirmary.
In the last chapter when the Germans were evacuating the camp with the healthy prisoners it was
not stated where they were going. It is my impression they were headed for the Killing Machines.
The appeasement of what the Nazi s were doing by other countries was not in the minds of Levi
and his comrades. Survival was of the utmost importance. What was going on in the outside world
was of no significance. Live to see tomorrow was the ultimate goal. The theme of Isolationism was
seen throughout Survival in Auschwitz. Germany was isolated from the rest of the world and Levi
was isolated from his family, friends and country. Within the camp, each hut was separated from one
another and those confined to the infirmary were secluded from the rest. The prisoners themselves
both consciously and unconsciously practiced self isolationism as

Punk In Der Ddr Analysis
This display of the potential of fashion as expression directly correlates with the relationship that
the punk scene of the GDR would develop with clothing. While likely the fictional character of
Sunny would not have so intentionally, by dressing in her modern, occasionally androgynous
outfits she was using style as a way of isolating herself from her setting. In the novel Punk In Der
Ddr: Too Much Future it is explained that the punks were no longer GDR citizens, they behaved as
if they were in London and had fled the country though still being present within it. For punks both
in the GDR and globally, fashion was an incredibly important tool to distinguish yourself from the
majority. Sunny, in spite facing judgement and the punks, in spite... Show more content on

The significance of punk in the GDR, which is already a socialist, not capitalist society is
inherently different. Many of the things British and American punks struggles with the most in
their society s where things the GDR itself assured to its citizens by granting them accessible,
state founded healthcare and education, as well as assigned job placements. In the government s
pursuit to provide a guaranteed quality of life, it increasingly extended its control into the details
of its citizens lives, leaving some, like the members of GDR punk movement, to feel as though
their autonomy of their future had been stripped from them. By the end of the film, Sunny has
gained almost complete of control over the direction of her life. She has rejected the opportunity
of returning to the stability of a factory job and has disconnected herself from her every potential
romantic partner presented in the film, making it clear she will not submit her autonomy in order
to benefit the GDR s economy or their declining population rate. In the optimistic closing scene of
Solo Sunny, her last line, I sleep with someone when I feel like it, I call a pig a pig, I m the one
who was thrown out of The Tornadoes, my name is Sunny, demonstrates she has finally become in

The Purpose Of Public Education
Public education has many purposes in contemporary society. One purpose should be to teach
kids basic skills that they need throughout life; this includes basic math, reading, writing. Along
with this on a broader level I believe that schools should teach children to have a growth mindset.
A growth mindset is important for everyone to have throughout life as it will allow them to be
more open to new experiences and it will teach them to question what they are told. The ability to
question the status quo is what allows people to express themselves and their ideas, it prevents
people from being oppressed. Finally I believe that public educationshould teach kids to be excited
about learning. Kids should not dread going to school, instead it should be a positive experience
and kids should understand that learning happens throughout life and does not stop after K 12
education. To instill a love for learning is to ensure that children become lifelong learners. Public
schools in the US today have strikingly different purposes than these but I believe that if these were
to become our purposes then we would have a more educated and more aware society. These
purposes are important to students, families, and societies in multiple ways. They are important to
students because it helps them grow as individuals. With a growth mindset they are able to think
more critically of different situations and they are able to continue to be learners. Without this they
would stay in the same

We have all been leaders and followers throughout history and our lives. When we were young
we followed those in leadership roles and as adults many of us have not only followed but also
lead. The question will remain as to why we want to follow some and abide to follow others. What
does one person have that the others do not that makes one want to conform to what that leader is

James Kouzes and Barry Posner, the authors of The TruthAbout Leadership: The No Fads, Heart of

Music s Influence On Western Music
As far as I m concerned, music has magical power, as the saying goes, music makes a qualities of
race higher and expensive, where have music, where enjoy to melt . I think western music is the
most fashionable music in the world.Even in classical western music, it was also very
modern.Western music has very long history, experienced lots of difficulties and changes. Until
now, there are still many researchers studying western musics history. As I know, early western
music mostly were light music which didn t have lyrics. Only some folk songs have lyrics , but
they were not composed by composers, it was sang randomly by people and then it became more
and more popular. With the development of culture, music developed fast. There appeared
some song writers, they wrote lyrics and matched light music. This form can express people s
feelings more easily and directly. So most modern western music are songs which both have rhythm
and lyrics.
1. A brief introduction about western music s characteristics.
Western has three typical characteristics. Firstly, it often refers to the origin of Christian
civilization. Secondly, composers have their own personal creation and personal styles. Thirdly, it
has scientific tradition and the pursue of science..Through books and Internet, we can know some
western musicians such as, Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and so on, they are all very creative

Macbeth Soliloquy Analysis
In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the most famous passage is Macbeth s soliloquy
after Lady Macbeth commits suicide. The scene is very intense for Macbeth, because England s
forces are advancing on his castle, his wife killed herself, and he just witnessed one of the witches
predictions about his death starting to come true. This passage is a very moving part of the play
because it reflects Macbeths view of his approaching death by summarizing the play by referring
to past events, creating woeful mood through its imagery, and developing the theme of time. In
his soliloquy, Macbeth refers to several important lines that were said in earlier parts of the play,
which makes this passage moving because it manages to summarize the key points of an entire
play within a few lines. The quote Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow / Creeps in this petty
pace from day to day (5.5.22 23) alludes to Macbeth frequently putting off important situations
for later because he does not want to deal with them yet, or feels as if it would expose him of his
foul deeds. For instance, when Banquo wants to talk about King Duncan s murder, Macbeth
says, But of that tomorrow, / When therewithal we shall have cause of state / Craving us jointly
(3.1.36 38). Now as death is approaching Macbeth, he reflects on all of the things that he had
put off that lead him to where he is now, and how he has run out of tomorrows to spend because
there will no longer be any for him once he dies. This has a large impact on the audience because
these lines give insight to the harsh reality that one day we will not be able to complete the
things that we meant to do, and that although human beings tend to think that there will always
be tomorrow , that can be easily taken away from someone. This development of a grim mood is
continued throughout the passage by the use of dark imagery. The phrase Life s but a walking
shadow (5.5.27) depicts life as something empty and meaningless by using a metaphor to
compare it to a shadow. Another use of a metaphor is seen where Shakespeare compares life to a
play in the quote, Life s but a / walking shadow, a poor player / That struts and frets his hour upon
the stage / And then is heard no more

Essay On Shale Gas
Due to innovations in technologies and techniques involved with shale gas extraction, shale gas
production in the United States, as well its natural gas production as a whole, as increased
tremendously over the past several decades. As the abundance of domestic energy continues to
grow, American consumers have observed declines in gas prices across the nation. However,
cheap gas comes with a price: the negative impacts that cheap oil prices and shale gas extraction
have on the U.S. s environment, economics, and political relations raises questions as to whether
America s shale gas revolution is entirely beneficial. Although shale gas offers the potential for
abundant and cheap energy and reduced reliance on foreign energy, the harmful impacts on human
health and the environment caused by shale gas extraction as well as the negative effects of
cheap oil prices on foreign and national economies and the geopolitical imbalances caused by the
shift in energy dominance outweigh the benefits of shale oil. The process of extracting shale gas
today involves two methods: horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Horizontal drilling
enables the well to conform to the formation and extract gas from thousands of meters below the
entrance of the well. Because the shale rock formation is typically flat and approximately 90
meters thick, this method of drilling maximizes the area of rock that is in contact with the wellbore
in comparison to vertical wells, horizontal wells reduce

A sea otter is the smallest marine mammal in North America, and is a part of the weasel family.
They range along the coast from San Mateo County, and South ward through Monterey County,

which has blubber to keep them warm, which is very thick. It keeps the otters warm in negative

coats waterproof, which they only do by hours of cleaning and grooming. Sea otters spend most
of their lives cleaning their fur to stay waterproof and warm. Most sea otters eat up to a quarter
of their weight every day. Sea otters also may hunt on the sea floor, but always come back to the
top to eat its food on its chest, and use it as a table. A sea otters diet consists of crabs, clams,
crayfish, and frogs. Most otters hunt by detecting movements in the water. Their life spans only
last about 15 20 years for females and 10 15 for males. Male otters weigh up to 44 99 pounds and
females weigh about 31 73 pounds. Female otters normally have their first pup when they are
about the age of four to five. Their pregnancies last for about 4 5 months. Their babies are called
pups. The pups are born anytime of the year, except the California sea otters are born normally
through January and March. When the pups are born they weigh about five pounds. In Alaska they
are born in the summer and not the winter.

dressed me very nice that I had money. I recall growing up in a one bedroom apartment, but as
my parents worked to gain more knowledge through college and grad school that they would
able to provide a better life for me as I grew older. My mother works as a social worker and dad a
Veteran of the United States Army and currently possesses a degree in Business Administration
society labeled us as stuck up rich girl. My grandparents often told me stories of days on the
farm and working for ten cents a day to earn fifty cents a week. I was taught to be thankful for the
small things and big things would come. My childhood often bring tears to my eyes as... Show more

It exists in all of us, whether we have money, opportunities, or advantages. Trouble is, most
people don t recognize this power for what it is. They leave it alone, or maybe they don t even
know it s there. Instead, they buy into the line from people in suits, fancy offices, or business
schools who tell us that there s a certain way to start businesses we need money to jump start our
business. But that only works for a few of us and only for a while. Why? Because, take it from
me, the power of broke is all about substance over flash. It s about creativity over certainty. It s
about taking a shot over playing it safe. And here s another thing: The money runs out after a
while. Those deep pockets you may or may not have, they ll never be deep enough to buy all the
passion, ingenuity, and determination it takes to have success over the long haul. Even if you ve
got money behind you, there s no guarantee that it will see you through. It s the money in front of
you that counts, after all. It s the money you need, not the money you have, that makes all the
difference (Daymond 1). Being rich is all purchasing power; I don t think that being rich should
determine one s character. Some folks are rich and stay to their own kind, but then you have some
rich folks that feel that money is just money and will associate with the less fortune. I think about
how my parents afforded me with all the latest technology, shoes, clothes, etc. And then I would see

The Poisonwood Bible Book Report
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. A book that I never expected to read because of
my stance on avoiding religious books, but oddly enough I could not put it down. The book is a
representation of culture arrogance, racism, greed, ignorance, and imperialism that occurred
through 1959 and on. The book introduces a religious, missionary familyfrom Georgia who are
headed to the village of Kilanga in Belgium Congo. What grabbed my attention in the beginning is
that each member in the family, which happens to be all girls, has their turn to tell their story
through their eyes, except oddly enough the overly religious evangelical Baptist father, who s only
purpose is to spread the name and views of God to the Congolese.
Each daughter is different from the other. You have the oldest, who s to ignorant to try to
understand the culture of the Congolese and just wanted to go back to the US where her beauty
belonged. Two twins who are complete opposites because of a disease that harmed the younger s
mind rendering her crippled and mute, but gave her the most beautiful and dark view of the
world. The oldest twin who believed every word her father says is right and plans to follow in his
footsteps. Next the youngest daughter who is too young to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It s interesting watching each character develop for better or worse, especially the father who
continues to incite the same emotion from you throughout the whole story until the end as well as
the oldest daughter. But as much as you remember they are just characters in a book, you know
that there are people out there that share the views as these close minded characters. There are
moments when I wanted to scream, cry and just throw the book across the room because of certain
events that occurred, but I could not turn the book

Character Transformation In Milkweed
When you pick up the book and like it. No matter the reason, a high percentage of that is because
you like the character from the start. Character changes is most complex and intriguing part of any
story. Either if the character is growing or lessening, you ll still end up with a tale. Milkweed goes
through a lot of characterchanges. The given theme for this novelis about when you own nothing, it
s easy to let things go. The character in particular we re going to talk about is the main character.
From what we foresight to be the antagonist, who is actually the protagonist from his own eyes.
(Between pgs. 1 60) We meet the nameless antagonist from the very start, he ran away after he
stole bread from a store. Eventually meets a boy

  • 2. The Miami Dolphins Football Team The Miami Dolphins, a professional football team located in Miami, Florida, has been a part of the National Football League (NFL) since 1966. The organization is most notably known for the 1972 Miami Dolphins football team, led by Don Shula, who went undefeated a won the Super Bowl. This team was the first and, so far, only team to have a perfect season capped off with winning the championship game. From 1966 to 1970 the Miami Dolphinswere perceived like they are today as a losing franchise that could not win. That was until Don Shula, helped make the Dolphins one of the best franchises in the national football leagueduring his reign as head coach. The time period from 1970 to 1993 were the golden years of the organization s history; during this time the Miami Dolphins won 13 AFC East Titles, 5 AFC Championships, 2 Super Bowls and in 1973 set the league record 74,961 season ticket sales. During this time period the team had star players Larry Csonka, Dan Marino, Bob Griese, and several others that helped to build and sustain the Dolphins legacy. Since 1993 the Miami Dolphins have been known for holding three fantastic super bowls in 1994, 2006, and 2009, all of which were great games that the Dolphins were not involved in. While in recent years the Miami Dolphins have gone back to the original roots of field losing teams, the organization has developed a marketing strategy to improve the financial situation of the organization and maintain fan support. The version of the conspiracy theory that is popularly accepted is that the person believed to have been Jack The Ripper was indeed him. H. H. Holmes was a separate person and separate issue. H. H. Holmes is believed to have been prosecuted before Jack The Ripper surfaced, making this more acceptable. How Did The Theory Originate And Gain Popularity? • 4. The Venezuelan Revolution This will be as much a tale about the Venezuelan people as it is about a returning immigrant who knows his homeland largely from memories and media. Though my experiences have shaped my outlook, my intention is to enter the country as a neutral and impartial writer, cognizant of daily life, yet oblivious to the fiery political discourse which consumes too many discussions. This project s purpose is to record a people who have lived through the promises and outcomes of the Bolivarian Revolution, an idea that captured Venezuelas spirit and spread across 16 Latin America nations as the Pink Tide. The poor and working class will be a fundamental component of this story as I investigate the role the revolution has played in shaping the lives of this perpetually overlooked group of people. Simultaneously, the nature of these issues will create a portal into the world of Venezuelan heritage, traditions, and political and civic culture. What I write will be the reality of the situation; the interpretation will be left up to the reader. On the ground reporting will be supplemented by insightful research and substantial use of public outlets, expert opinions, conversations with civic figures and affected citizens, and other sources whose ... • 5. The Roman Spectacle Of Ancient Society The Roman Spectacle Today one can be a spectator in every sport via sports networks, and billion dollar stadiums, and arenas. While modern day sports vary drastically and so do their playing fields, in the Roman Empire one sport reigned supreme the sport of Chariot racing. Few forms of entertainment enjoyed as great of a level of devotion and longevity than that of Chariot racing. The sport of chariot racing was an integral part of Roman society and wherever the Romans went, chariot racing when with them, as evidenced by the tracks in North Africa, England, and elsewhere in the Empire. This seems like an unlikely connection to the casual observer, but for one who looks deeper into the Roman society and government they will see that sports were at the heart of the Roman Empire. This sport was unique in Roman society, because it brought together people from different backgrounds, cultures and ranking in Roman society. This widespread popularity gave this and other sports played a unique roll in Roman society. The popular nature of the races lent a particular kind of political power to the fans and was great enough to affect cultural and political life in Roman society. The races did not only afford the common Roman power, but it was a tool used by Rome s leaders to appease the populace. • 7. Ancient Civilization Paper Ancient Civilization Paper Do you remember the story of Jacob in the Bible? I do, and as I think about how while he was in Egypt, God gave him the knowledge, skill, and forethought for the preparation for store houses when the great famine struck the land. This reminds me of how difficult times were in early civilization. As I studied the textbook, World Civilizations: volume 1: to 1700, I see how far our civilization has come. I will cover most of the things that made the different cultures better, such as; advances in technology, major trade routes established, the cultures who utilized the specific trade routes, and the advancement that agriculture and trade made to influence individual civilizations. Starting in the Paleolithic Age, times were hard, they worked extremely hard for everything they could find. The family unit was their society, not until later in time did that grow into communities. It was at the beginning of the Neolithic Age when the breakthrough began regarding social organization. In this era, they depended on hunting wild game and gathering wild plants for food. In the Holocene era, (a geologic age beginning about 12,000 B.C.E. to the present) the world experienced a dramatic shift to a generally warmer and somewhat drier climate. As conditions became drier, human groups were forced to settle near surviving bodies of water and to adopt methods for producing, rather than hunting and foraging for their food. The gradual adoption of agriculture demanded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Dehydration Of Sulfuric Acid And Phosphoric Acid Dehydration of 2 methylcyclohexanol Authors: Johnny Presley Abstract: Dehydration of 2 methylcyclohexanol to 3 methylcyclohexene is simple distillation where dehydration was used to prepare the final product. The results of the experiment showed that the 3 methylcyclohexene was formed via an E1 reaction from 2 methylcyclohexanol with a 1:1 ratio of sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. However, some H2O was left over, which was seen when we look at the IR and see a small water peak. This could be due to the fact that not enough sodium sulfate was added and not for long enough. These results were confirmed by the quality tests that showed that a precipitate formed when KMnO4 was added to the solution and in the IR spectroscopy peaks showed peaks at 3022.62cm 1 which matches an alkene, further showing that the formation of 3 methylcyclohexene was successful with a percent yield of 56.46%. Introduction: The major reaction that happened was an E1 reaction (otherwise known as a unimolecular elimination reaction). In this reaction the removal of an HX substituent group results in the formation of a double bond via beta hydrogen elimination4. In an E1 reaction the deprotonation of hydrogen in the beta position occurs and from here a carbocation is formed, which results in the formation of an alkene product. This happens when the OH group on the 2 methylcyclohexanol is hydrated by H2SO4, which allows the OH to become an H2O. Since H20 is a better leaving group now it will ... This bomb decimated over two hundred thousand Japanese citizens, and caused the Empire of Japan to surrender ending World War II. In his book Hiroshima, John Heresy reveals the stories of six survivors, and how their lives were changed following the bombing. As you might expect, the time succeeding the attack was rather hectic. Even more so for physicians and nurses, as thousands of people were rushing towards them for medical assistance. Two physicians, Dr. Masakazu Fujii, and Dr. Terufumi Sasaki, have survived to tell their stories. Dr. Fujii ran a hospital that overlooked a river. When the bomb exploded, Dr. Fujii was blown off his feet and landed in the water along with the remnants of his hospital. Dr. Sasaki was much luckier than Dr. Fujii, because he remained uninjured and immediately started caring for those close to him. At the time the bomb exploded, Reverend Mr. Kiyoshi Tanimoto is helping a friend move his daughter s belongings and Father Wilhelm Kleinsorge, who was recently suffering from a stomach illness, was resting on his porch. Mrs. Hatsuyo Nakamura had three children, and when the bomb exploded, she was looking out the window. • 11. Siddhartha-the Shape of Time Essay For many Westerners, more specifically the driven citizens of the United States of America, time is viewed as a straight line. Our children realize this, consciously or not, early on. They make timelines in school, their classes switch on the hour, their intelligence is measured on a scale. We are born, we come of age during adolescence. We set a goal, we work to achieve success. Birth and death, childhood and adulthood are stages that occur only once. Life is black and white. Separate. The past is the past, the future is the future. Traveling on a straight line, we can only look forwards. Eastern philosophy, on the other hand, might view time as a circle, a spiral, a figure eight. Lao Tzu, credited with penning the Tao Te Ching, noted that a good traveler has no fixed plans/and is not intent on arriving. Thus, he rejected the linear concept of time, as did Siddhartha as he made his journey. The book opens with the title character s decision to leave his traditional Hindu community and upbringing to seek Atman through asceticism. Siddhartha and his friend, Govinda, adopt the life of the Samanas. Siddhartha thinks, waits, and fasts. He struggles to free himself from The Self: the materialistic, mortal part of him. But he is anxious to attain a state of bliss. As a young Brahmin, he was always the strongest, the cleverest, the fastest. He expects to find the most efficient way to Atman, just as he excelled in every other area of his life. The ascetic life disappoints him. Siddhartha replied: `How old, do you think, is our oldest Samana, our worthy teacher? Govinda said: `I think the eldest would be about sixty years old. And Siddhartha said: `He is sixty years old and has not attained Nirvana. He will be seventy and eighty years old, and you and I, we shall grow as old as he, and do exercises and fast ... • 15. Media Violence And Crime Violence Media Violence and Crimes There are few debates that have been contentious for so long as the debate of whether violent medias contribute meaningfully to crimes. Because of the majority of shooting events committed by younger shooters, many politicians regard cultural effects as a potential contributing factor, while others dismiss media as a contributing factor. Within the social science community, a similar division exists (Ferguson, 2015). For example, some professional supporting groups, like the American Psychological Association (APA), released policy statements of a clear association between media violence and societal aggression (Ferguson, 2015). On the contrast, actively, a group of estimated 230 media scholars, criminologists, and psychologists wrote an open letter to the APA. In this letter, they asked APA to withdraw their policy statements and cease from making casual speculation. Does media violence immediately cause the increasing number of violent crimes? In 2000, the Federal Trade Commission(FTC) made a survey for the scientific evidence and the warning of negative influences of media violence (Dahl Vigna, 2009). Simultaneously, the American Medical Association, with five other public health organizations, revealed the threat of exposure to media violence. However, the evidence, showed in the reports of this survey, does not prove an obvious link between media violence and violent crime (Dahl Vigna, 2009). Using this axiom, Foote attempts to change the reader s mind on their understanding of Lincoln and Davis. Lincoln grew up dirt poor in the bare Kentucky frontier, his mother dying when he was nine years old, and his father having a paltry, insignificant relationship with the young Abraham. Lincoln quoted Thomas Gray s poem, Elegy, when describing the conditions of his youth, The short and simple annals of the poor. (pg. 20). As soon as he could, he sought independence from his father and began life on his own. He eventually settled in New Salem, Illinois where he joined the Debating Society. As Foote puts it, though at first the charter members snickered at his looks and awkwardness, presently they were admiring the logic and conciseness of his arguments (pg. 22). One member of the society claimed all he lacked was culture (pg. 22). Lincoln was respected for his intelligence, but derided for his social skills and poor background. Certainly this part of Lincoln s life is of the least importance, but it serves a purpose for Foote, who aims to portray Lincoln in a more vulnerable part of his life, when he wasn t revered like he would later be, but viewed with pity as a backwoods hick. This serves as a shock to the reader, disarming us of any romantic notions we have of Lincoln s early life. Lincoln unquestionably developed into one of the most remarkable men to ever live, but, as Foote shows us, it took him awhile to reach that status. System and Change in Industrial Relations Analysis Critique: System and Change in Industrial Relations Analysis As a student of industrial relations, I am often bombarded with conflicting theories and reasons for the emergence and importance of this field. Edmond Heery outlines and analyses the justaposition of two different views of modeling this vast and often debated area of industrial relations. His article looks at two types of model building in IR. First, the traditional model of systems thinking set forth by John Dunlop, one of the pioneers of IR theory. Introduced in 1958, Dunlop s system theory of IR tries to provide tools to understand the widest possible range of IR activities and explains why particular rules are established in particular contexts. Dunlop argues that IR can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the exogenous gradual model, IR change occurs due to gradual, cumulative change that is driven by forces beyond the employment control. An example is globalization. In the exogenous disjunctive model, episodes of change are interspersed with periods of stability. The change itself is triggered into the employment relationship by some external event, like a war. In the exogenous cyclical model, change follows a repeating cycle of decline and renewal as IR adapts to cyclical pressures in the external environment, such as election pressures and the economy. In the endogenous cyclical model, change occurs because of the competing drives of the actors. For example, IR is said to be both adversarial (due to the competing interests) and cooperative (due to interdependence of the parties). Thus IR will oscillate between adversarial and cooperative mindsets depending on the context as the limitations of each approach become apparent to both management and workers. In the endogenous disjunctive model, change occurs as a result of strategic choices of the actors within the employment relations. For example, as a result of unions traditional marginalization of women s and minorities issues, there has been an increased mobilization of women and minorities within unions. In the endogenous gradual model, change is gradually driven by forces internal to IR. This model stresses the maturing of IR institutions over time, as they become more ... The aged care sector operates under the Aged Care Act 1997 and Aged Care (Transitional Provisions) Act 1997 that came into effect in July 2014. As part of National Health reform in 2011, the Council of Australian Governments agreed to transfer all funding and operational responsibility of aged care support services for people over 65 years to the Commonwealth Government. Additionally, subsidized informal care expenditure was an estimated $1.8 billion (Department of Social Services, 2013). Taxpayer funding makes up 93% of aged care expenditure (ARC Centre for Excellent in Population Ageing Research, 2014). The number of older Australians is expected to grow more than 4 times in the next 40 years to a estimated 1.8 million people by 2050 (The Australian Government Treasury, 2010). In a mechanized war, attacks take place with frightening speed and intensity, where there is no place to run or hide, and any response is not made out of logic but of pure fear. The Communist Party of Kampuchea (CPK), known also as the Khmer Rouge, emerged from Cambodia s difficulties living as a French colony. Throughout the 1940 s, the Cambodian communist movement was influenced by radical Vietnamese across the border. In the 1950 s, the Indochina War set the stage for CPK to grow stronger over the next two decades. What began as an outlying movement toward Communism, slowly formed into the radicalized force that later controlled a nation of people. The CPK took control of Cambodia on April 17, 1975 and created the Democratic Kampuchea in 1976. The CPK was kept a secret until 1977, and there was no way for anyone outside of the CPK to know who the party leaders were. Cambodia under the power of the Khmer Rouge suffered immensely. • 28. Robert Smythson Research Paper Robert Smythson was the most important architect in England in the 16th century. In fact he is the only architect of that time known to us with any certainty (Robert)We first see Smythson in written records from 1566 referring to the renovation of a manor house in Wiltshire called Longleat. In April 1567 the original house caught fire and burnt down. While working on the renovation of Longleat Smythson was a master mason, but was one of the people to involve himself in the designing the renovation of the house. He liked to try and make everything symmetrical. It also has a central hall. He used large windows to open the house so that the maximum amount of light from outside could shine in. Survival in Auschwitz is the unique autobiographical account of how a young man endured the atrocities of a Nazi death camp and lived to tell the tale. Primo Levi, a 24 year old Jewish chemist from Turin Italy, was captured by the fascist militia in December 1943 and deported to Camp Buna Monowitz in Auschwitz. The trip by train took 4 long days in a jam packed boxcar without food or water. Once there, interrogations by the SS of age and health determined life as a prisoner or untimely death. Levi along with hundreds of fellow Jews were stripped of their clothes, given rags to wear, had their heads shaved... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During Levi s captivity, the Killing Machines had already been tested and were being refined with each use. Levi describes how selections could be made at any time, anywhere. From the hut in the early or late hours, during roll call, on the march to work, and especially in the infirmary. In the last chapter when the Germans were evacuating the camp with the healthy prisoners it was not stated where they were going. It is my impression they were headed for the Killing Machines. The appeasement of what the Nazi s were doing by other countries was not in the minds of Levi and his comrades. Survival was of the utmost importance. What was going on in the outside world was of no significance. Live to see tomorrow was the ultimate goal. The theme of Isolationism was seen throughout Survival in Auschwitz. Germany was isolated from the rest of the world and Levi was isolated from his family, friends and country. Within the camp, each hut was separated from one another and those confined to the infirmary were secluded from the rest. The prisoners themselves both consciously and unconsciously practiced self isolationism as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Punk In Der Ddr Analysis This display of the potential of fashion as expression directly correlates with the relationship that the punk scene of the GDR would develop with clothing. While likely the fictional character of Sunny would not have so intentionally, by dressing in her modern, occasionally androgynous outfits she was using style as a way of isolating herself from her setting. In the novel Punk In Der Ddr: Too Much Future it is explained that the punks were no longer GDR citizens, they behaved as if they were in London and had fled the country though still being present within it. For punks both in the GDR and globally, fashion was an incredibly important tool to distinguish yourself from the majority. Sunny, in spite facing judgement and the punks, in spite... Many of the things British and American punks struggles with the most in their society s where things the GDR itself assured to its citizens by granting them accessible, state founded healthcare and education, as well as assigned job placements. In the government s pursuit to provide a guaranteed quality of life, it increasingly extended its control into the details of its citizens lives, leaving some, like the members of GDR punk movement, to feel as though their autonomy of their future had been stripped from them. By the end of the film, Sunny has gained almost complete of control over the direction of her life. She has rejected the opportunity of returning to the stability of a factory job and has disconnected herself from her every potential romantic partner presented in the film, making it clear she will not submit her autonomy in order to benefit the GDR s economy or their declining population rate. • 31. The Purpose Of Public Education Public education has many purposes in contemporary society. One purpose should be to teach kids basic skills that they need throughout life; this includes basic math, reading, writing. Along with this on a broader level I believe that schools should teach children to have a growth mindset. A growth mindset is important for everyone to have throughout life as it will allow them to be more open to new experiences and it will teach them to question what they are told. The ability to question the status quo is what allows people to express themselves and their ideas, it prevents people from being oppressed. Finally I believe that public educationshould teach kids to be excited about learning. Kids should not dread going to school, instead it should be a positive experience and kids should understand that learning happens throughout life and does not stop after K 12 education. To instill a love for learning is to ensure that children become lifelong learners. Public schools in the US today have strikingly different purposes than these but I believe that if these were to become our purposes then we would have a more educated and more aware society. These purposes are important to students, families, and societies in multiple ways. They are important to students because it helps them grow as individuals. With a growth mindset they are able to think more critically of different situations and they are able to continue to be learners. Without this they would stay in the same ... I think western music is the most fashionable music in the world.Even in classical western music, it was also very modern.Western music has very long history, experienced lots of difficulties and changes. Until now, there are still many researchers studying western musics history. As I know, early western music mostly were light music which didn t have lyrics. Only some folk songs have lyrics , but they were not composed by composers, it was sang randomly by people and then it became more and more popular. With the development of culture, music developed fast. There appeared some song writers, they wrote lyrics and matched light music. This form can express people s feelings more easily and directly. • 35. Macbeth Soliloquy Analysis In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the most famous passage is Macbeth s soliloquy after Lady Macbeth commits suicide. The scene is very intense for Macbeth, because England s forces are advancing on his castle, his wife killed herself, and he just witnessed one of the witches predictions about his death starting to come true. This passage is a very moving part of the play because it reflects Macbeths view of his approaching death by summarizing the play by referring to past events, creating woeful mood through its imagery, and developing the theme of time. In his soliloquy, Macbeth refers to several important lines that were said in earlier parts of the play, which makes this passage moving because it manages to summarize the key points of an entire play within a few lines. The quote Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow / Creeps in this petty pace from day to day (5.5.22 23) alludes to Macbeth frequently putting off important situations for later because he does not want to deal with them yet, or feels as if it would expose him of his foul deeds. For instance, when Banquo wants to talk about King Duncan s murder, Macbeth says, But of that tomorrow, / When therewithal we shall have cause of state / Craving us jointly (3.1.36 38). Now as death is approaching Macbeth, he reflects on all of the things that he had put off that lead him to where he is now, and how he has run out of tomorrows to spend because there will no longer be any for him once he dies. This has a large impact on the audience because these lines give insight to the harsh reality that one day we will not be able to complete the things that we meant to do, and that although human beings tend to think that there will always be tomorrow , that can be easily taken away from someone. This development of a grim mood is continued throughout the passage by the use of dark imagery. The phrase Life s but a walking shadow (5.5.27) depicts life as something empty and meaningless by using a metaphor to compare it to a shadow. Another use of a metaphor is seen where Shakespeare compares life to a play in the quote, Life s but a / walking shadow, a poor player / That struts and frets his hour upon the stage / And then is heard no more ... • 36. Essay On Shale Gas Due to innovations in technologies and techniques involved with shale gas extraction, shale gas production in the United States, as well its natural gas production as a whole, as increased tremendously over the past several decades. As the abundance of domestic energy continues to grow, American consumers have observed declines in gas prices across the nation. However, cheap gas comes with a price: the negative impacts that cheap oil prices and shale gas extraction have on the U.S. s environment, economics, and political relations raises questions as to whether America s shale gas revolution is entirely beneficial. Although shale gas offers the potential for abundant and cheap energy and reduced reliance on foreign energy, the harmful impacts on human health and the environment caused by shale gas extraction as well as the negative effects of cheap oil prices on foreign and national economies and the geopolitical imbalances caused by the shift in energy dominance outweigh the benefits of shale oil. The process of extracting shale gas today involves two methods: horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Horizontal drilling enables the well to conform to the formation and extract gas from thousands of meters below the entrance of the well. Because the shale rock formation is typically flat and approximately 90 meters thick, this method of drilling maximizes the area of rock that is in contact with the wellbore in comparison to vertical wells, horizontal wells reduce ... But that only works for a few of us and only for a while. Why? Because, take it from me, the power of broke is all about substance over flash. It s about creativity over certainty. It s about taking a shot over playing it safe. And here s another thing: The money runs out after a while. A book that I never expected to read because of my stance on avoiding religious books, but oddly enough I could not put it down. The book is a representation of culture arrogance, racism, greed, ignorance, and imperialism that occurred through 1959 and on. The book introduces a religious, missionary familyfrom Georgia who are headed to the village of Kilanga in Belgium Congo. What grabbed my attention in the beginning is that each member in the family, which happens to be all girls, has their turn to tell their story through their eyes, except oddly enough the overly religious evangelical Baptist father, who s only purpose is to spread the name and views of God to the Congolese.
