US Supreme Court Case Analysis
The U.S. Supreme Court declared that a person has the right to represent himself or herself at a
criminal trial based on case law from Faretta v. California (Cabell, 2012). Many people have a preset
notion that those who wish to represent themselves are mentally ill, obtuse, believe they can beat the
system, or simply are arrogant (Cabell, 2012). I do believe in certain jurisdictions it would be an
advantage to conduct a defense pro se. One reason for this would be the fact that some jurisdictions
have severe staffing issues with their public defenders office, which are also extremely burdened with
a heavy work assignment (Cabell, 2012). In some of these cases, a defendant can possibly provide
themselves a better defense than a court appointed attorney (Cabell, 2012). In some cases, the accused
simply lose the trust of their council and the U.S. Supreme Court has stipulated that a defendant can
always have control over the course of their trial (Cabell, 2012). Also, current data shows that people
who choose a defense pro se, often have similar outcomes as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An example of this was the case of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who was famously known as the
Underwear Bomber (Cabell, 2012). In the end he plead guilty to violating U.S. law, but acknowledge
to the court that under Islamic law, he was not guilty (Cabell, 2012). Finally, many courts allow a
person who wishes to defend their self to be appointed what s called a standby counsel (Cabell, 2012).
This allows a defendant who has little to no knowledge of courtroom procedures to have a
professional assist with specific procedures (Cabell, 2012). References: Cabell, K. (2012).

Critical Theories Of Criminology
Introduction
In this paper, I will discuss conflict criminology, radical criminology, peacemaking criminology, and
postmodern criminology providing a comparison as well as a contrast to each.
Discussion
There are several theories developing critical theories of criminology, the first discussed in this paper
will be conflict theory (Bohm Vogel, 2011). The conflict theory is the inequality of competing groups,
moreover, the different social statuses of individuals. This theory compares the differences in white
collar crime to the crime of the blue collar class. White collar crime is mostly money related crimes,
including embezzlement, committed by the economically elite, conversely, blue collar crime is
considered more violent as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structure of this societal hierarchy places a few individuals in the higher ranks of society with the
majority within the lower ranks, the proverbial winners as compared to the losers. This theory bases
crime upon the various class struggles to obtain wealth within an unequal economic environment. The
lower class struggles to obtain the same level of material wealth held by those of the higher classes
creating an extremely competitive environment leading to individuals taking advantage of the weaker
members of society to further their own level of wealth. The radical theory defines crime as the
deprivation of basic human rights, as individuals compete for a portion of societal wealth in an
unequally distributed market they become overly competitive with one another leading to what is
described as senseless violence.
The third theory discussed in this paper is the peacemaking criminology, this theory is a non violent
approach to change society through the transformations beginning at the individual level (Bohm
Vogel, 2011). The theorist of peacemaking view suffering as the cause of crime, expressing the need
for a change within society to become for aware of the needs of those less fortunate, moreover,
working together to resolve those issues. This theory views the acts of punishing individuals for
crimes committed as the source for continued criminal acts. A shift from

Google s Article On Online Marketing Essay
Google Page One In 30 Days Google is now one of the unique industry leaders when it comes to
search engines. So the question of how to get onto the FIRST page of Google has interested me for
years. I keep my eyes open for fresh SEO and new website promotion techniques that evolve from

about getting your website onto the first page of Google search results for your search terms or
keywords as fast as possible, in a Google friendly way so your target customers CAN FIND YOU.
Recently I have been using a strategy that costs me little and usually bring me to google page one in

Graduation Speech On Teaching And Learning And Interactive...
I enrolled in the Certificate in the University Teaching (CUT) program in spring 2014 right after
completing the FUT program in winter 2014. Through the GS901 workshops, I learned about students
traits and attitudes toward learning and interactive teaching through active learning. With regards to
course design, I learned the importance of having an organized, yet flexible, course plan that is
designed in equilibrium with course objectives and assessments. Teaching observation practicum,
provided me with an opportunity to assess my teaching from the perspective of an experienced
educator. Below, I will discuss the elements and strategies that I have experimented with based on the
comments and suggestions I received.
COLLECTIVE LEARNING:
One of the key elements in teaching undergraduate classes is to create a learning environment that
cultivates critical thinking and mastery of concepts. As an instructor, I have experienced with various
active learning methods to keep my students engaged and motivated. Within the pedagogy toolbox, I
found the element of discovery to be the most effective way of teaching. In my classes, before even
explaining a new concept, I usually pose a question to class and ask my students to find a solution. I
ask my students to work in pairs (and sometimes groups) to come up with a solution without them
knowing the new concepts. The idea is to assist them to discover the new concepts by thinking out of
the box and trying different approaches. During

The Impact Of Internet On Human Brain
The goal that I wanted and desired to accomplish while completing the MYP project, was to
understand the impact of internet use on the human brain. The pros and cons of having information
available to us at the tip of fingers, or in our pockets. I chose this project because I wanted to explore
the core of human nature. I wanted to comprehend how we operate, function and work with new
discoveries. Experiment with our ability to adapt to new foundings and use them at our benefits, rather
than become enslaved by them. My inspiration for this project is my late grandfather. At the moment
when the project was assigned out, I had just attained information on the death of my grandfather. I
was educated that he apparently died, from a brain tumor that the doctors couldn t operate on, or cure
with their medicine. So I wanted to dig deeper into the realm of the human brain and know the cause
of our mere existence. I wanted to understand the truth behind his brain tumor, but I knew I couldn t
delve into such matter and come out without any regrets, disappointments or even frustration.
Nevertheless I did enter the brain and explored something else, giving me some sort of closure to him
in a way. I believe that when my project is completed, there are various ways of evaluating it. Simple
experiments could be conducted testing the modern generation s reliability on the internet. Unmask
the true meaning of independence and know what has driven people to such situations. Additionally,

Who Is Banquo s Ambition In Macbeth
Ambition
Kierra Corrigan Little
Macbeth, a play composed by William Shakespeare, revolves around the character Macbeth and his
intentions to acquire anything he needs, as well as killing his most loyal companions, to accomplish
being King of Scotland. The want of this greed starts after Macbeth encounters The Three Witches and
becomes attenitive of what they re saying. Listening to what the witches have to say encourages the
worst of Macbeth to eliminate the one who trusted him as much as to name him Thane of Cawdor, he
will do anything in order to be crowned as King. After fulfilling his need to become King of Scotland,
he must stay in power, the hard work must not go to waste, again doing anything he needs to do, no

Formerly Macbeth s ally, Banquo, was accompanying Macbeth and the Three Witches whilst they
spoke of Macbeth s powerful future. Banquo had heard everything they had said to Macbeth. After the
King had been killed, Banquo became skeptical of Macbeth s actions, and wondered if he had been a
part of the killings in order to become king. Knowing that Banquo was aware of all conversing
between the witches and himself, Macbeth needed him gone. But to be safely thus; our fears in
Banquo stick deep;... He hath a wisdom that doth guide his valour to act in safety. (Act. 3, Scene. 1,
Line 53 74) Macbeth speaks of his fears that Banquo may spread his wisdom among others, leading to
them getting closer to finding out Macbeth is a cold blooded killer. Macbeth hires hitmen to kill
Banquo and his son (Fleance) in order to keep it more unknown and obvious to the public. Fleance
escapes the murder, leaving his father behind only because Banquo screamed to Fleance to run. When
Macbeth hears this news he still feels threatened but never get to kill Fleance. Fleance now fatherless

Oswalt Chapter 6 Summary
Chapter 6
Now we come to the second half of the book as it discusses history and the Bible. In this part of the
book Oswalt move to accurately describe history. He defined history, in synopsis, as a account that
records events which is recorded for human self knowledge and used as a means of assessment in
order to incarcerate important events. In this book it the writer tell of several factors that are

Theme Of Perception In Hamm s Endgame
To be or to be perceived in Endgame In the play Endgame, Hamm could often be compared with
Hamlet. In addition to the derivation of the name, Hamm s presentation of the question to end or not to
end could remind readers of Hamlet s soliloquy to be or not to be. With the consideration of this
question, another question could be raised whether to be is to be perceived? In this essay, I think that
in fact to be may not be to be perceived from the perspectives of human relationship and the language
used in Endgame. In Endgame, the constant tension is whether Clov will leave Hamm or not. He
threatens to Hamm sometime, but he is never able to make a clear break. Likewise, although Hamm
always tell Clov to leave him alone, he still

Multicultural Excellence
1 Within the four components of Multicultural Excellence, I have experienced a greater expansion of
my awareness in the discrimination of women in the education system. During my high school
education, none of the history classes I took included in their curriculum a chapter on Title IX, and
why it was added. In doing my Title IX research project, I became aware that in our recent history,
before 1972, that there were quotas set in place, limiting the number of female students in a
University. I am glad that legislation has passed removing quotas, but I also became aware that
women are currently still a minority within the STEM majors. I believe this is due to our social
construct here in America.

This concept can be found on page 67 of our textbook. Individualistic cultures place the importance on
the individual and competing with each other. Collectivistic cultures place importance on the group s
needs, and conforming to take the place within the group. In understanding this concept, I then begin
to understand the worldviews of other people. This also plays an important role on how the family is
structures. If I have a client in the future who has a collectivistic culture, I need to remain aware, and
respect this, and work to develop a therapeutic plan that holds to their values, and alleviates their

Baseball Ball Monologue
It is a cold grey afternoon with a dull sky and ragged clouds. The last leaf on the tree was finally
blown off by the wind, the leaves crunched beneath your feet as you walk on it. The awful smell of
dried leaves filled the air and out in the distance, the leafless tree s branches wobbled around as the
wind pushed and blow them around. The dark clouds look furious but me and my younger brother,
Allie are happy as hell. We just got a new baseball ball gifted from my older brother, D.B. We start
enjoying and playing some baseball throws. As I take a step and throw the ball, the scarlet and gold
leaves get crunched. The wide ground is lit by some rays, shining through a thin layer of grey cloud
like a stain glass window. I feel giddy with excitement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In the grip of silent panic, wild eyes, heart racing, brain on fire, brain synapses firing like a hyped up

of conflicting instructions as I race towards him. The panic in my brain increases as the raindrops falls
slowly on his body. Frozen in panic and shrill scream in my brain as I hold Allie s body, as he lay
breathless and still. Gasps, murmurs from the crowd, breaks my panic. Then medics plough through
the crowd and with precision put Allie on oxygen and wheel his motionless body away. It feels as
though walls are closing in on me, as I try to block out the vicious stares of all the phonies in the
crowd. As the ambulance disappears I feel Allie is going far away from me just like those red leaves,
falling from the trees sway gently in the autumn wind. My mother and my father, later, walks towards
me filled with panic and turns to me, demanding an answer to a question I haven t heard over the din
in my ears. I was so damn scared. I search for words that refuse to come, my tongue twisted in

Similarities Between Inspector Goole And Birling
The mystery and morality play, An Inspector Calls , was constructed by Priestley to expose to the
public the problems in society and Capitalism. He uses Inspector Goole and Mr. Birling, two very
opposing characters in personality and political views, to help illustrate his ideas. This is mainly
highlighted by the idea of the Inspector being the protagonist and Birling as the antagonist. Inspector
Goole and Birling both represent the two major political parties present in 1912, when it was set
(Socialism and Capitalism). Mr. Birling gains more in his business and society due to Capitalism, so is
unable to accept community and all that nonsense . This illustrates Birling s belief that each person
should only care about their friends and family.

11. Hidden Mickeys of Disney are one of the best scavenger hunts at Disneyland or Disneyworld. A. A
hidden mickey is an image of Mickey Mouse concealed in the design of a Disney attraction (rides,
decoration, resort, etc.) In designing, constructing or adding the final touches to an attraction,
Imagineers subtly hide: Mickey Mouse silhouettes. Disney fans have to find these hidden mickeys and
it s a fun scavenger hunt for all. B. Hidden Mickeys can be hard to find and you don t want to mix
them up with Mickeys that aren t actually hidden mickeys. 1. First, any Mickey that seems large and
very intricate, such as a formation of a cave, is probably not an honest to god hidden mickey. 2.
Second, a Mickey should be proportioned correctly. If the ears are too small or too close together, like
the padlocks in all the parks, or if each circle is a different size and not in perspective, it is most likely
not a hidden mickey. 3. Lastly, a true hidden mickey should not have to rely too much on imagination,
such as the Matterhorn Mickey. If you must squint your eyes, tilt your head, and have a certain amount
of lighting at a certain angle, it s probably not a Mickey. A mickey might be upside down or sideways,
but when pointed out, should be relatively clear.

The Punishment of Malvolio Essay
In Shakespeare s play, Twelfth Night, the characters endure the fruits of their foolishness at the end of
the play, but Malvolio endures a greater suffering and greater embarrassment than the rest of the
characters. This is not simply by chance or whimsy: but this is Shakespeare s stratification of the vices
that a person may take upon him or herself. With this stratification, Shakespeare allocates Malvolio s
vices of pride, usurping the social order, and dour temperament as the worst of character flaws, and
that is why Malvolio receives the harshest punishment. Before examining the punishment that
Malvolio endures, it is necessary to examine his flaws and offenses. His arrival in the play is with
criticism of Feste, and that initial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Malvolio is treading the ground of criminal offense against a lord, who is also the cousin of his Lady.
Beyond the offense upon the higher strata of society, Malvolio is also demonstrating his dour
temperament in this scene which is also problematic. The importance of mirth and joviality is affirmed
throughout the play, and for some characters, their greatest virtue is the ability to enjoy and be
passionate for life. Malvolio stands in opposition to this with his protests and derision, and in the play
he is the only character that takes offense to other characters enjoying their lives. The hostile
environment he creates is important to note because it gives the other characters an impetus to deal
with his troublesome personality in order to enjoy their own pleasures and pursuits. The last encounter
where Malvolio extends his grievances is the second encounter with Sir Toby. Their encounter takes
place after Malvolio s pride is incensed by the false note of Olivia, so his actions go even further in
displaying his own ego and lack of regard for his superiors. Not only does he instruct Sir Toby and
Maria to, go hang yourselves, (III.iv.120) but he also claims that he is no longer of their, element
(III.iv.121). The implication is that he has ascended beyond Sir Toby and Maria, but that is merely the
delusion of his ego. In this scene he

DNA Testing
Research Question: To what extent has the advancement in DNA testing prevented wrongful
convictions and saved the lives of innocent civilians?
Introduction
The advancement of DNA profiling in the recent decades has globally revolutionized the justice
system and significantly changed the course of criminal cases along with it. The application of DNA
technology in the identification of biological material has changed forensic biology since it allows for
stronger conclusions in identities be made. It essentially creates a link between a suspect and the
physical evidence that was retrieved from a crime scene. DNA sampling is considered convenient
technology because very little DNA is needed in identifying an individual, and all the while the results

DNA testing was first adopted in forensics around the late 1980s, when the technique became
scientifically and statistically robust enough to pin down crimes to those responsible for them. It all
started in 1987 in Florida when a rapist named Tommy Lee Andrews became the first person in the
U.S. who was convicted as a result of DNA evidence and was sentenced to 22 years in prison. Due to
samples of DNA from semen that matched the DNA from Andrew s blood, the prosecutor was able to
influence the jury with Andrew s justifiable guilt (Thompson 14). It was a revolutionary success
because it allowed the jury to make a confident and unanimous decision by not simply deciding an
individual s future based on the persuasively worded and bias arguments from the prosecution and
defense, but rather on tangible physical evidence that stated the facts that nobody could change or
sway with words. Another famous case that DNA evidence helped to prove justice was the trial of
Timothy Spencer, but who was better known as the South Side Strangler (Baker). Spencer went
around Virginia conducting many murders and rapes, but his manipulative crimes left no witnesses
behind to formally pin Spencer down and accuse and punish him of the committed crimes (Baker).
After analzing the DNA left on his vicitms however, prosecutors were finally able to match Spencer
with the victims and hold him responsible (Baker). Spencer was immediately given the death penalty
due to the murders he had committed. Not only was Spencer rightfully punished, it lead to the release
of a man who was wrongfully imprisoned for five years of the killing of Hamm, later proven by DNA
evidence to have been Spencer as well (Baker). When no witnesses were left to tell the world what
had happened at the crime scenes, evidence was left behind

Throughout the play, A Midsummer Night s Dream, written by William Shakespeare, are several

He designed 14 principles of quality management. These principles were actualized by Japan and built

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Genetically Modified Organisms
Genetically Modified Organisms Transgenics and Biopharming In today s world, the need for more
efficient and better quality foods grows greater. The population on earth is thought to increase to nine
billion by the year 2050. To support this population, the application of biotechnology is used to
modify foods. The reason why foods are genetically modified is to produce better quality food which
can also fight off pests, insects, weeds and diseases. Not only can you insert genes to induce these
effects, you can also insert genes to produce medicines which is called biopharming. This then allows
farmers to reduce the use of pesticides and herbicides (agric.wa.gov.au). GMOs can help protect the
world s food supply and reduce the cost on farmers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

serious risks are associated with transgenics and biopharming yet as the future draws near we look
towards it. I personally believe that we should investigate this technology further in order to provide
better quality foods, increase production, reduce costs and support human life on earth. Safety
protocols do need to be taken seriously in this however, precautions like growing the GM foods in

Fruit flies are annoying and seem to come from nowhere, are hard to kill, and once they appear they
seem to stick around forever!

swatting them, spraying them with insecticide often prove futile.
Because, you can never swat them all and, who wants to spray insecticide over food?
So, what is the solution?
Trapping them!
Yes, trapping fruit flies is amazingly effective way to get rid of fruit flies. Today in this article, I am
going to show you different types of fruit fly traps, their construction, effectiveness, and working.

The attractants like apple cider vinegar, wine, or tequila contain acetic acid molecules and hence the
fruit flies are attracted to them.
Apple Cider Vinegar Fruit Fly Trap:
I can bet, you will hear the name of apple cider vinegar traps every time, someone talks about fruit fly
traps.
Apple cider vinegar is one of the most popular attractants used in fruit fly traps. Fruit flies have a great
affinity towards apple cider vinegar. To use it as a lure in fly traps Mix a cup of apple cider vinegar
with 3 5 drops of dish soap.
Dish soap breaks the surface tension of the attractant and causes the trapped flies to sink as soon as
they come in contact with the lure.
Another important tip is that Heating the apple cider vinegar in the microwave for about 10 15
seconds before using it, makes it more effective. Household vinegar is composed of diluted acetic acid
with water.
When the vinegar is heated, the water molecules evaporate, thereby increasing the concentration of
acetic acid in the mixture. Doing this releases more of the vinegar s fragrance and hence attracts more
fruit flies.
Apple cider vinegar can be used with any of three traps mentioned

The Importance Of Cultural Diversity
Cultural Diversity is the existence of a variety of cultural or ethnic groups within a society. There are
many processes of Walt s adaptation to cultural diversity. First, there is the obvious discord between
Walt and the young Father of the church. This situation presents cultural differences of identity;
specifically, age and religion. This eventually becomes a hindrance in Walt and his Father Janovich s
perception of each other. Walt does not think Father Janovich is credible due to his age and his
religious culture of Catholicism, therefore, his dedication to his deceased wife is not anchored by any
firm foundation. Father Janovich wants to keep the promises he made to Walt s late wife Dorothy, but
Walt is not convinced. This difference in cultural identity leads Walt to make numerous offensive
remarks to Father Janovich, but young Janovich s faith allows him to exercise patience and
longsuffering with Walt. Another aspect of Walt s adaptation to cultural diversity is the language
barriers. Walt s culture of offensive language creates a cultural divide within his own family. Though
he and his family speak the same language, their inability to communicate inter culturally creates
dysfunction, as shown in the scene Unhappy Birthday. Walt s oldest son and his wife presents birthday
gifts for Walt, as they believe these are thoughtful and will make Walt s life easier. Entirely out of

The Watergate Scandal In The United States
It is widely believed that political leaders are crucial members of nations and societies.
Ideally, their main goal would be to construct a strong and prosperous nation, and satisfy the needs of
people. However, an unexpected scandal occurred in the 1970s in the United States, which led to a
drastic decline in public trust towards the president, and that was the Watergate scandal (Genovese 4).
It was so atypical in presidential history because for the first time the president himself was involved

Effects Of Parent Child Dynamics On Emotional Development
Effects of Parent Child Dynamics on Emotional Development in Infants
Jovana Capric
Florida Atlantic University
Abstract
Misinformation and lack of education often lead parents into uncertainty about how to raise their child
to be the best person they can be. When raising children, the connection and relationship that is shared
between parents and child are significant. Multiple studies and research proves that different
engagements and experiences such as affection, discipline techniques and parenting styles all can have
positive or negative effects on a child and therefore, have critical consequences in development. Some
consequences include high or low acceptance ratings from the infants as well as impacts on social and
emotional development.
Effects of Parent Child Dynamics on Emotional Development in Infants
Parent child relations have been a topic of much review within psychology research due to the effects
on development and the implications it has on the child and family dynamics. Today, family and
parenting are in a great state of uncertainty and flux due to the constant re defining of what parenting
really is and how it is most effective (Lunkenheimer Leerkes, 2015). Often it becomes difficult to keep
up with the many forms of parenting and discipline styles while effectively maintaining a positive
parent child relationship. With the abundance of research and studies that have been conducted on this

scarecrow to the ghost of someone from around the area, Welty leads the reader to infer that Phoenix
is trying to deny the apparition is her grandson that died close by at home. Dr. Christina Gregory from
PSYCOM explains that during denial perhaps you cling to a false hope that they identified the wrong
person. In Phoenix s case, she is trying to identify the scarecrow as the ghost of anyone but her

Comparing The Romans And The Han Dynasty Chinese
Both the Romans and the Han Dynasty Chinese had a lot in common even though they lived
thousands of miles apart, but had many differences as well. Both civilizations lasted hundreds of years
and accumulated each a population of more than fifty to sixty million inhabitants. While the two
developed around the same time frame they spoke different languages, had different governments, and
different ways of living. Their main way of food was agriculture. Both great civilizations had
perfected the ways of trade and had built numerus roads to do so. Trade was their major source of
money and exotic products such as cotton and spices. Additionally, both of them concentrated on
territory expansion. While both these civilizations had many similarities in their economic structure
they had a few differences as well. For the Roman Empire agriculture was its primary source of their
food and wealth. The grew grains, olives, and grapes. Furthermore, out of those crops they made olive
oil and wine since that was one of their most important commodities. Most of the grain, grape, and
olive products they made were then later traded or sold to other people. On the other hand, the Roman
s had a fairly negative approach to trading, considerably in the higher classes. Since having a surplus
of crops and land was a status of wealth while manufacturing and commerce were seen as a lesser
occupation. The rich landlords had many slaves to work in their fields to harvest their crops.
However, even with

How The Philosophies Of Lily And Selden In The House Of Mirth
Lily Bart is 29 years old in early 20th century America, unwed and unattached to any family money.
The House of Mirth follows her story, ten years after her family is financially ruined and she is
orphaned, as she desperately clings to the wealth of her friends and attempts to marry into money.
Among the many suitable prospects, Lily finds Lawrence Selden, a bachelor who exists on the edge of
rich society with no fortune of his own and no desire to acquire any, the most alluring. References to
the Bible and Greek mythology serve to flesh out the respective approaches to life of Lily and Selden,
how those approaches adapt to the course of their lives and the overall struggle between pleasure and
survival. To first establish the different philosophies of Lily and Selden, Wharton titles the novel with
a reference to the Bible which condemns frivolous living, and describes Selden s views relative to two

The title The House of Mirth refers to a Bible quote that argues somber, serious people are wise, while
only fools are mirthful (King James Version, Ecc. 7.4). Lily exemplifies the latter lifestyle, caring
mostly about the caliber of her gowns and about spending time with friends gambling or traveling. She
takes only one thing very seriously: her goal of marrying into a fortune comfortable enough that she
never again has to worry, or really think, at all. Selden, on the other hand, is described as being just as
detached from material desires as a stoic ... combined with [an] Epicurean s pleasure, a paradoxical
combination inherited from his mother s own values (Wharton 163). Stoicism was a Greek philosophy
of treating everything seriously and

  • 2. US Supreme Court Case Analysis The U.S. Supreme Court declared that a person has the right to represent himself or herself at a criminal trial based on case law from Faretta v. California (Cabell, 2012). Many people have a preset notion that those who wish to represent themselves are mentally ill, obtuse, believe they can beat the system, or simply are arrogant (Cabell, 2012). I do believe in certain jurisdictions it would be an advantage to conduct a defense pro se. One reason for this would be the fact that some jurisdictions have severe staffing issues with their public defenders office, which are also extremely burdened with a heavy work assignment (Cabell, 2012). In some of these cases, a defendant can possibly provide themselves a better defense than a court appointed attorney (Cabell, 2012). In some cases, the accused simply lose the trust of their council and the U.S. Supreme Court has stipulated that a defendant can always have control over the course of their trial (Cabell, 2012). Also, current data shows that people who choose a defense pro se, often have similar outcomes as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this was the case of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who was famously known as the Underwear Bomber (Cabell, 2012). In the end he plead guilty to violating U.S. law, but acknowledge to the court that under Islamic law, he was not guilty (Cabell, 2012). Finally, many courts allow a person who wishes to defend their self to be appointed what s called a standby counsel (Cabell, 2012). This allows a defendant who has little to no knowledge of courtroom procedures to have a professional assist with specific procedures (Cabell, 2012). References: Cabell, K. (2012). • 3. Critical Theories Of Criminology Introduction In this paper, I will discuss conflict criminology, radical criminology, peacemaking criminology, and postmodern criminology providing a comparison as well as a contrast to each. Discussion There are several theories developing critical theories of criminology, the first discussed in this paper will be conflict theory (Bohm Vogel, 2011). The conflict theory is the inequality of competing groups, moreover, the different social statuses of individuals. This theory compares the differences in white collar crime to the crime of the blue collar class. White collar crime is mostly money related crimes, including embezzlement, committed by the economically elite, conversely, blue collar crime is considered more violent as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The structure of this societal hierarchy places a few individuals in the higher ranks of society with the majority within the lower ranks, the proverbial winners as compared to the losers. This theory bases crime upon the various class struggles to obtain wealth within an unequal economic environment. The lower class struggles to obtain the same level of material wealth held by those of the higher classes creating an extremely competitive environment leading to individuals taking advantage of the weaker members of society to further their own level of wealth. The radical theory defines crime as the deprivation of basic human rights, as individuals compete for a portion of societal wealth in an unequally distributed market they become overly competitive with one another leading to what is described as senseless violence. The third theory discussed in this paper is the peacemaking criminology, this theory is a non violent approach to change society through the transformations beginning at the individual level (Bohm Vogel, 2011). The theorist of peacemaking view suffering as the cause of crime, expressing the need for a change within society to become for aware of the needs of those less fortunate, moreover, working together to resolve those issues. I wanted to comprehend how we operate, function and work with new discoveries. Experiment with our ability to adapt to new foundings and use them at our benefits, rather than become enslaved by them. My inspiration for this project is my late grandfather. At the moment when the project was assigned out, I had just attained information on the death of my grandfather. I was educated that he apparently died, from a brain tumor that the doctors couldn t operate on, or cure with their medicine. So I wanted to dig deeper into the realm of the human brain and know the cause of our mere existence. I wanted to understand the truth behind his brain tumor, but I knew I couldn t delve into such matter and come out without any regrets, disappointments or even frustration. Nevertheless I did enter the brain and explored something else, giving me some sort of closure to him in a way. I believe that when my project is completed, there are various ways of evaluating it. DNA testing was first adopted in forensics around the late 1980s, when the technique became scientifically and statistically robust enough to pin down crimes to those responsible for them. It all started in 1987 in Florida when a rapist named Tommy Lee Andrews became the first person in the U.S. who was convicted as a result of DNA evidence and was sentenced to 22 years in prison. Due to samples of DNA from semen that matched the DNA from Andrew s blood, the prosecutor was able to influence the jury with Andrew s justifiable guilt (Thompson 14). It was a revolutionary success because it allowed the jury to make a confident and unanimous decision by not simply deciding an individual s future based on the persuasively worded and bias arguments from the prosecution and defense, but rather on tangible physical evidence that stated the facts that nobody could change or sway with words. Another famous case that DNA evidence helped to prove justice was the trial of Timothy Spencer, but who was better known as the South Side Strangler (Baker). Spencer went around Virginia conducting many murders and rapes, but his manipulative crimes left no witnesses behind to formally pin Spencer down and accuse and punish him of the committed crimes (Baker). After analzing the DNA left on his vicitms however, prosecutors were finally able to match Spencer with the victims and hold him responsible (Baker). Spencer was immediately given the death penalty due to the murders he had committed. Not only was Spencer rightfully punished, it lead to the release of a man who was wrongfully imprisoned for five years of the killing of Hamm, later proven by DNA evidence to have been Spencer as well (Baker). Apple cider vinegar is one of the most popular attractants used in fruit fly traps. Fruit flies have a great affinity towards apple cider vinegar. Dish soap breaks the surface tension of the attractant and causes the trapped flies to sink as soon as they come in contact with the lure. Another important tip is that Heating the apple cider vinegar in the microwave for about 10 15 seconds before using it, makes it more effective. Household vinegar is composed of diluted acetic acid with water. When the vinegar is heated, the water molecules evaporate, thereby increasing the concentration of acetic acid in the mixture.
