Empowerment Of Water In Annie John, By Jamaica Kincaid Water
Oceans cover most of the Earth. They are essential for our environment since they produce more than
half of the oxygen in the atmosphere. Without our vast sea, humankind would not be able to survive.
In Annie John, written by Jamaica Kincaid water is demonstrated as a motif in literature showing the
coming of age story of a young girl growing up in the Caribbean. The protagonist, Annie, grows
learning how to properly balance the values of the colonized world and the native Caribbean culture,
Obeah. Kincaid uses the motif of water as an empowerment to Annie s growth by curing, nurturing,
and transforming her. Annie s safe haven as a young child consists of baths to help heal her from
bodily aches. In the Obeah culture it is believed that water can cure someone from any body aches.
Annie informs the reader of her childhood when she went to bathe in the sea after church, It was at a
time when I was thought to have weak kidneys and a bathe in the sea had been recommended as a
strengthening remedy (Kincaid 42). Bathing in the water is a remedy for Annie s body. The sea
demonstrates a higher power since three quarters cover the earth s surface. Oceans are a natural force
no mankind can replicate; therefore, they hold an influential component to heal Annie s weak kidneys.
The Obeah culture is woven into Annie s lifestyle even through the colonized world; both cultures are
simultaneously respected in her childhood. Thus, allowing water to heal Annie from any bodily aches

Argumentative Essay On Confederate Statues
Argumentative essay confederate
Imagine walking through a town plaza and suddenly spotting a bust depicting Adolf Hitler, or a statue
of a Nazi Swastika. A passerby may stare in horror upon its recognition, and wonder why a symbol of
such hatred and violence is displayed prominently in a town. These statues would incite an uproar and
immediate demands to remove such offensive monuments. Thankfully, such a situation would never
arise in modern America; however, a similar plight is unfolding across the country concerning the
removal of Confederate statues. Confederate statues should not be displayed in public areas because
they are reminders of a time when racial violence went unpunished, they are honoring people who
wanted to keep other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3 Another issue with the statues are the actual subjects monumentalized. Notable people that are
commemorated with having models of themselves publicly displayed are usually figures that the
people of America are proud of, like Abraham Lincoln or Harriet Tubman. Confederate statues,
however, are the exception; for they are monuments that represent the institutionalization of racism.
Our public spaces should not glorify historical policies of hatred and racism, argues Kevin Kamenetz,
executive and president of the Maryland Association of Counties (Eversley 2017). That single phrase
perfectly sums up what people across the country are attempting to convey, and expresses the main
issue that many have with these statues. No person who fought for the right to keep humans as
property is deserving of modern honor.
4 For people who oppose the removal of Confederate statues, history is said to be their biggest
concern. Many believe that Ultimately, removal of the monuments will, quite literally, erase an
unsavory but important part of our nation s history (Brophy 2015). They fear that by removing these
symbols, America would be disregarding a huge part of its past. Yet, history itself would not be
destroyed, as the impact of the Civil War lives on; only the tokens of oppression would be removed.
5 Speaking of oppression, the statues are reminders to the descendants of slaves of what their
ancestors endured in the machinations of slavery on a day

BUSS204 Managing Production Flow
Investigating Global and Local Production and Quality Control Processes
18 April 2017
By Chloe Ansell 1500770
This essay will investigate the standard production development processes within the fashion industry
and it will also focus on the importance of quality control standards inside these processes. It will
moreover discuss supply chain within various market sectors in the fashion industry. Many fashion
companies apply the same production development processes local and global and this essay will
identify the similarities and differences of each of these stages within the fashion industry.

Production processes also requires a manufacture, local or global and there are different advantages of
global or local manufacturing. Within local manufacturers there is more control over quality issues
and you can visit your manufacture more often. Shorter construction times with less expensive
transport (studentweb.bhtafe.edu.au, 2017). However, the benefits of global manufacturing are the
exceedingly advance skills and inexpensive cost of the labor force (Glock and Kunz, 1995). With the
labor the costs include bundling, sewing, pressing, trimming and inspections. Production manages
observe every aspect to decrease the costs with that saves money and increase income (O Leary and
Livett, n.d.).
Thru manufacturing comes the quality control standards, quality control is the degree of excellence
and that level of quality creates its equal of reliability in the product (Lifetime Reliability Solutions |
World Class Asset Reliability, 2017). Managing the production flow of the quality control processes
are exceedingly important with the stages being fit, specification sheet, technical pack and sampling
processes. Quality must have the suitability for use

Cadillac Is A Car For An Older Generation
Headline
The headline of the Buick advertisement reads, Yes, there are still people with blue hair who drive a
Buick. The headline directly corresponds with the two pictures and when combined, have great
transmission power. It portrays the idea that if you re hip enough to sport blue hair, that driving a
Buick is also the cool thing to do. The word still in the headline implies that young, hip, alternative
people are already driving the new Buicks. In Buick s recent advertising campaign, they have focused
on making sure people know that Buick has changed and that it isn t a car just for the elderly. Most
people in the target market have probably never considered Buick because it s perceived as being a car
for an older generation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Visual
The visuals in this print ad meets the criteria of the four powers. Seeing a young woman with blue hair
is uncommon, so it creates stopping power. It s intriguing enough to make someone want to peruse the
rest of the ad. Once you read the headline, it s easy to understand that Buick is trying to appeal to a
younger market by showing that someone in their demographic is driving this car. Perhaps, the fact
that she is wearing glasses could allude to the idea that a smart, young person made the decision to
purchase this type of car. Also, because she is wearing a stylish necklace and bracelets, instead of a
choker and black spiky jewelry, she seems to be a trendsetter with class, not just a punk rock chick
that is trying to rebel against society.
This car brand has probably been perceived as only being driven by an older crowd. The ad could be
appealing to someone in the younger crowd because they might be able to relate to the young woman
driving the Buick. Locking power is achieved because the image of a young woman with blue hair is
memorable. Someone who sees someone else with colored hair or maybe even someone that is a little
different from the norm might think back to this ad. The reader may not necessarily be persuaded to
buy a Buick from this ad, but it will at least give them a reason to check out the new Buicks and
possibly test drive one to see how they have changed.

Economic Indicators Paper
Economic Indicators Paper
What does it mean when someone refers to the health of an economy? Furthermore, how can one
classify an economy? Americans love to quantify data. Because of this inherent need to compare data,
economists have developed a way to collect nearly every type of statistics that may reveal the general
health of the economy. These statistics actually tell if the economy is productive and efficient or if it is
slow and inefficient. Included in these statistics are Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Consumer Price
Index (CPI), Unemployment Rate, Retail Sales, Producer Price Index (PPI), and Personal Income.
Included in this paper, Team A defines the preceding six indicators, and describes their status.
Additionally, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There have been many indicators that have been developed to measure inflation. The CPI measures
inflation as experienced by consumers through their everyday expenses. The Producer Price Index
(PPI) measures inflation during the early stages of business development, such as production and
sales. The best measure of inflation for a given application depends upon how one intends to use this
data. CPI allows businesses to adjust prices based upon a comparison of the current cost of a defined
set of goods and/or services to the cost of those same goods at a time in the past. It is also, the best
measure to use to translate retail sales and hourly earnings into real or inflation free dollars (2005).
The CPI is the most widely used measure of inflation and is sometimes viewed as an indicator of the
effectiveness of government economic policy. It provides information about price changes in the
Nation s economy to government, business, labor, and private citizens and is used by them as a guide
to making economic decisions. In addition, the President, Congress, and the Federal Reserve Board
use trends in the CPI to aid in formulating fiscal and monetary policies.
Retail Sales Retail sales, represent an important component in the economy. Products sold by
companies, such as Target and local retail stores are tracked and reported to the Census Bureau. The
Census Bureau compiles this data on a monthly basis

Themes in Early American Literature Essays
Themes of Early American Literature
Early American literature does a tremendous job of revealing the exact conditions and challenges that
were faced by the explorers and later by the colonists of the New World. From early shipwrecks to the
later years of small colonies barely surviving through dreadful winters, the literary works of the time
period focus on some very recognizable themes. The theme of any given work being simply the
unifying subject or idea is a very important element of any piece of writing. As one reviews some of
this early literature, it becomes obvious that several themes appear repeatedly, and it is these subjects
that were clearly very common among people from all over the New World. While a number of
themes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The explorer narratives, however, were not the only ones which described a dark and forbidding
quality of the New World. The colonists at Jamestown and all along the eastern coast suffered through
harsh winters with minimal supplies, causing many deaths and making life in the New World
extremely challenging. For example, in William Bradford s Of Plymouth Plantation he remarks that 50
of the 102 Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth had died within the first year (Perkins and Perkins 50).
The reasons for the high number of deaths in the colonies vary, but disease and harsh winters certainly
claimed their share. In addition, the colonies struggled to establish crops and solid dwellings for
months or years after they first landed, and supply ships proved to be unreliable at best. John Smith of
the Jamestown Colony is responsible for writing The General History of Virginia, New England, and
the Summer Isles in which he depicted the grievous condition of the colonists only days after the ships
departed and left them to the mercy of the land (Reuben 6). He wrote, Being thus left to our fortunes,
it fortuned that within ten days scarce ten amongst us could either go, or well stand, such extreme
weakness and sickness oppressed us. (Perkins and Perkins 36). In the same piece of literature, Smith
also noted another very ominous threat to the well being of the

I ve been excited about this class since I first saw it was being offered. I thought this class would be
easy because I have written my whole life and have taken two creative writing classes in the past. Yet,

America And Its Homeland Security Online Essay
America and Its Homeland Security Online
Abstract: Everyday security is provided by the states and federal government. These tasks get more
difficult as new technology introduces itself. Cybersecurity is one of the most popular security sectors
in today s world. There is not only cyberbullying going on in the world. Terrorism can be planned and
sent from person to person over the internet. People s identities are being stole to help carry out these
terrorist acts and this is just the being of it. The United States created the Department of Homeland
Security as a result of the 9/11 attacks. This was an effort to prevent future terrorist attacks on our
nation. Along with that department, laws have been enacted, such as the USA PATRIOT Act. This law
was introduced and passed to provide Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies with better
resources to fight and stand up against terrorism. The way to successfully providing security against
domestic and international terrorists is to understand the mentality of a terrorist. Critical assessments,
more efficient alert systems, and physical security standards must improve in order to solidify our
current security posture if the United States wants to deter future terrorist attacks against its culture
and economy. So let us all start at the very beginning. What is the major threat behind cyber terrorism
and cyber vandalism? Once you take a major look at the early years, the internet and websites were
commonly introduced

Discounted Ammo
Should you Stock Up on Discounted Ammo?
When it comes to the idea of stocking up on ammo, it is generally a good idea to buy ammo if it is
available for a discounted price. There are many reasons one may want to stockpile ammo but we ll
examine three particular reasons that every conscientious gun owner should consider as to why they
should stock up on ammo.
1. Training
Anyone who has ever regularly shot a weapon knows that you re only good with a weapon that you
regularly train with. In order to regularly train with a weapon, you will need an ample supply of
ammunition to shoot through that weapon. This means that you will need to have a readily available
source of ammo for your gun. Because it can be particularly difficult to come across certain types of
ammo, like 22 long rifle, it just makes good sense to buy a significant amount of ammo and stockpile
it when you find ammunition for a discounted price. If you do this, then you can rest assured that you
will always have ammo available for training when you need to practice shooting your gun. ... Show

Lately, prices seem to always be going up
Over the last few years, ammo prices have increased as much as 200% for some types of ammo.
Because it seems that prices seem to keep going up in recent times, it is a good idea to buy any
ammunition that you can find at a discounted price. If you can find ammo at a discounted price, then
you will be able to save a good amount of money and be able to beat the system of ever rising prices.
Simply put, it never hurts to take advantage of a bargain.

Sexualization Of Women In The 21st Century

Digital photography 2015
WRITTEN DISSERTATION
We have become a generation where we rely on certain aspects to help promote an advertisement. This
can range from racism, feminism, sexism, ageism and even possibly religion, homophobia; the list can
go on and on. This may concern very few people or many people; they may find it offensive or
disturbing.
Adverts have been around for hundreds of years, and have since developed hugely as technology has
enabled us to advance even more. Adverts have developed from illustration with text in the early 1700
s to large high definition photograph/illustration on billboard or TV advertisements with high
definition. (Adage, website, 1999) Advertising in the 21st century doesn t just stop at billboards and
TV advertisements. We have now gone onto using every space available to us to advertise, we are
surrounded by adverts, or even advertisements surrounds us. Its endless, everywhere we go, we see
adverts posted on a wall or on websites that we visit.
Shock advertising or the term shockvertising is used to draw the public attention to deliberately make
then stop and think about the advert they are seeing or have seen. This is where the controversy starts.
For shock advertising to work effectively it has to display something that is distressful or disturbing so
that the public will stop to look and think about at the

How Normal Has Changed Since September 11 Essay
The terrorist attacks on September 11th affected more than the lives of those in the targeted cities.
Nearly every American has felt the rippling effect in both subtle and obvious ways. Everything from
what people are eating to the toys that are in demand has been altered because people s perceptions
have changed. Though this country has always been considered a patriotic nation, its true colors had
not shown in recent history until this tragedy. Now it is apparent that its colors are red, white, and
blue. Despite the many negative aspects of the terrorist attacks, some of the changes that have
happened in America have been for the better. How ironic for our enemies it would be if their acts

Since all change, whether positive or negative, is stress, many families are having a difficult time
adjusting. However, after the kinks are ironed out, most family members are enjoying the time
together. Cathy Hansell, a mother who has not had to do traveling for her job recently, comments that
it was one of the best things that has ever happened. Her husband is also at home more, traveling 50%
less for his work, and in result, their family is experiencing much less stress than before (Guzman and
Higgins 8). The terrorist attacks instilled a fear of traveling in Americans, but brought families back
together in many ways. During these frightening times, parents have been much more likely to speak
to their kids and be a comfort to them. Where there is communication, bonding can begin.
Fear has also influenced people in unexpected ways. As one example, fantasy book series that deal
with frightening topics such as Harry Potter and A Series of Unfortunate Events (by Lemony Snicket)
have been on the rise in recent months. They already had great momentum before September 11th, but
many people believe that they have become more important to children since the attacks. Snicket (who
s real name is Daniel Handler) suggests that children are turning to his books because traditional
books say that everything will turn out all right if you behave. But as a young child, you see your own

Summary Of Sylvie And The Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka
Both Franz Kafka and Barbara Gowdy present the reader with protagonists who exist in a
sensationalized and absurd state. Kafka s Gregor Samsa is a traveling salesman who wakes up one
morning to discover the metamorphosis the transformation of his body into that of a giant cockroach
like creature. Gowdy s Sylvie is a young girl who is born bonded with the legs of an undeveloped
Siamese twin, her mother prefers, they refer to as Sue. Though a siamese twin is a real medical
condition, albeit rare, the entire matter is presented by the author as having a degree of absurdity with
realism not being the intent. In both Sylvie and The Metamorphosis, the absurd situations of the
protagonists are a mechanism by which the authors present themes of the nature of humanity and
social structures. In regards to social structures, both short stories present the concept of work in a
manner tinged with a Marxist perspective. According to Karl Marx, The history of all hitherto existing
society is the history of class struggles (8). Within the worlds in which Gregor and Sylvie live, their
position of being a part of the underclass is a constant source of social strain. From the onset of the
reader s introduction to Gregor, the reader is introduced to the tension between himself and his job as
well as his lack of satisfaction in his work. As a lower class citizen, he is a wage slave to the whims of
his boss. Throughout the short story, Gregor refers to his job as torture, miserable

Medea Vs Jason
Throughout literature, main characters are used to generate the action of a story, and engage the reader
s interest and empathy. In majority of literature, there is always a protagonist and antagonist, in which
the protagonist is the hero or heroine. In the play Medea by Euripides, it can be said that Medea is the
heroine of the story, but her foul acts cannot justify her as a genuine heroine. Her evil minded deeds
can be compared to that of Jason who is considered to be the antagonist of the play. The cruel acts
committed by both Medea and Jason make it difficult for the reader to have a clear distinction as to
who is the true protagonist and antagonist, but they provide insight to the view of humanity portrayed
by Euripides in Medea. Humanity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before having married, Jason was trying to retrieve the Golden Fleece and here Medea fell in love
with him and promised to help him. She helped him retrieve it and she killed her brother to sail away
with Jason. They got married and settled in Corinth with their children. But Jason betrayed his sons
and [Medea], and takes to bed a royal bride. (Euripides, 22 23). This brings up the theme of deceit and
treachery as Jason deceitfully leaves his family for fame and fortune. Jason is a betrayer of [the]
marriage bed (Euripides, 205) as he disrespected his marriage to Medea for fame and fortune from the
princess. Euripides portrays relationships and marriage in a negative way as they are used as symbols
for deceit and fury in Medea. Relationships are depicted as a sign of love, and communion but when
adultery comes into play these aspects are taken away and manipulated into hatred, antagonism, and
pain. Instead of writing a play on the ten years that Jason and Medea were happily married, Euripides
chooses to focus on the times where the couple has feelings of hatred and disgust towards each other.
Euripides deliberately chooses to write about the worst part of the relationship because he wants to
focus on his negative perspective of humanity and also because he enjoys writing tragedies. Euripides
s cynical outlook on society and portraying it negatively allows the playwright to excel in tragedies
such as Medea. Ultimately, acts of deceit like Jason leaving his family for fame and fortune are the
types of stories Euripides looks to write on as they provide evidence to the cynical viewpoint of
humanity

The Causes And Impacts Of The Great White Shark
Widely feared by all is the shark and leading the charge is the Great White Shark. The Great White is a
species of large mackerel shark, which can be found in almost all coastal and offshore waters which
have water temperatures between 12 and 24°C with greater concentrations in the United States,
Oceania, Chile, South Africa and the Mediterranean. The Great White is a keystone species, which
regulates abundance, distribution, and diversity of marine life. Additionally, they provide essential
food for scavengers and help in natural selection to remove the weak from populations. (Sharks as
keystone species, 2016)
Sharks ancestry dates back more than 400 million years, and they are even older than dinosaurs. These
animals are uniquely adapted to their environment with six highly refined senses of touch, taste, sight,
smell, hearing and electromagnetism. They are the top predators in the ocean, with the only real threat
to their survival being humans. Each year, thousands of sharks are being killed by human activity
including illegal poaching, illegal hunting, culling, and shark nets place along coastlines. (Sharks as
keystone species, 2016)
Although relatively rare, shark bite incidents draw an immense level of interest from both the public
and the media, as they often result in serious consequence for those involved. Globally the number of
negative shark bite incidents has increased over the years, but this has been largely attributed to
population increase and more people

leisure 2.8 hours of television a day. There is the constant outcry from parents and teachers that
children are growing to be television obsessed zombies, or that the exposure to violence from their

are able to stop ourselves from murdering everyone we see, especially if we have so many television
programs with violence as a feature?
The effect that television violence has on us does not come out in our behavior so much as our beliefs
around the world. One of the often joked rules of television is that sex and violence sells. It may be
said tongue in cheek, and yet we see it all the time in advertising, movies, or television. When asked
for shows in regards of violence an incredible list immediately springs to mind: Criminal Minds, Law
and Order, CSI, Blue Bloods, Sons of Anarchy, and more. Even as children, there is a great exposure
to violence mainly for humor s sake. Think of the classic Tom and Jerry show, or how often Wile E.
Coyote was hurt in his dogged pursuit of the Road Runner.
This exposure to violence even goes as far as to the news programs. It is the case more often than not
to report on the negatives happening in the world around us than the positives. Why? People tend to be
more interested in seeing the world burn than grow. I know that I as a viewer have

What Are the Main Problems Associated with Using Plastic...
Module code: FC 5012T
Title: Skills for Study 1
Assignment question:
What are the main problems associated with using plastic bags? Identify solutions to reduce these
problems.
Word count: 742
Tutor name: Bird, Marianne
City University Number: 110065767
Submission Date: 26/10/2011
Plastic bags have been used on a daily basis since 1977 (Williamson, 2003) as a means of carrying
items such as groceries as they are not only convenient but also cheap. However, the over use of
plastic bags has posed significant threats to the environment in recent times as they are non
biodegradable and also a threat to wildlife. The primary reason for this concern is that plastics bags are
not re used, but simply disposed of in landfills. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each year there is an increase in demands for plastic bags, and therefore more are shipped, creating
further environmental pollution concerns. This increase in demand has lead to the phenomenal
upsurge in the use and misuse of plastic bags globally, both in developed and developing countries.
Statistics show that 4 to 5 trillion plastic bags are produced per annum, whereby North America and
Western Europe account for nearly 80% (Geographical, 2005; Reusable Bags, 2005). Cheeseman
(2007) states that approximately 380 billion plastic shopping bags are used in the United States
annually ; in turn, only 0.6% of this is recycled.
Almost 96% of plastic bags are disposed of in landfills (Williamson, 2003). This leads up to another
problem as plastic bags are non biodegradable in other words, plastic bags do not biodegrade for over
a thousand years (Stevens 2001). Plastic bags may also land in farms and in oceans which have an
impact on the wildlife. Livestock such as cows may eat plastic bags while grazing. These pose a threat
if ingested as they may tangle in their stomachs, causing serious injuries and potentially death (Dreyer
et al, 1999; Rasmussen 1999). Each year over a billion birds and mammals die due to the ingestion of
plastic bags (Baker, 2002).
Many of these issues however, can be addressed and even resolved in several ways. Nowadays, a
number of countries have begun to impose taxes on plastic bag consumption, with few even banning
the use of plastic

way, it does not have to establish its own subsidiary there. b. Which method would you recommend
for this firm? Justify your recommendation. ANSWER: If the amount of golf clubs to be sold in Brazil
is small, it may decide to export. However, if the expected sales level is high, it may benefit from
licensing. If it is confident that the expected sales level will remain high, it may be willing to establish
a subsidiary. The wages are lower in Brazil, and the large investment needed to establish a subsidiary
may be worthwhile. 15. Impact of Political Risk. Explain why political risk may discourage

Persuasive Essay About Censorship
For everything that needs to be said there are always these things that never should be (Witherbee).
This statement has rung true for many generations and for many reasons. Censorship helps solve this
problem within T.V. shows, art, media, internet, and advertisements. In the world today people are
easily offended and some people use information to their advantage. Despite what some people might
believe, there are people in America that can use uncensored information to hinder the productivity of
the country to benefit themselves or another country. Censorship is necessary to protect different
groups and people. However, some things are unnecessarily censored such as books. Books are the
best educator because authors usually have something more to say than the words on the page say.
There are certain groups such as the Parents Against Bad Books in Schools who only see the words
and meanings that are on the page (Parents Against Bad Books in Schools). For example, the book
Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain was banned from certain schools because it said the word nigger in
it (Witherbee). If the reader would have read the book s entirety one would have discovered the anti
slavery tone the book possesses. Books teach lessons and they show readers that problems either need
to be fixed or one needs to come up with a better solution. Books can be a great way to introduce
children to real world situations without putting them in stressful or unstable situations.

Film Analysis Of Dear White People
In this paper, we will discuss whether the subaltern is being heard clearly within film and television.
Although in modern film we have somewhat shifted away from the former stereotypical black
characters, the genuine black life is still concealed due to mainly white producers and directors. Film
has come a long way from the generic social constructs including coons, mammies, and bucks, yet it
has not reached its full potential as far as presenting the average African American s life. The
Caucasian producers decide the nature of black life without experiencing first hand. Essentially, to get
a truly authentic story, it must be expressed by those who have lived through it. Narratives should
nevertheless be told by the person or persons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His actual message of wanting to be considered equal with the white man is stifled by his submission
to social constructs. The sanction of this notion allows for the inferiority complex to exist. If the
African American surrenders his drive for equality, white people can continue the narrative that their
sovereignty is for the best. White people will find any excuse to validate colonial racism with ideas
such as God created them superior or that their colonization was solely to stimulate economic growth
within that particular country. Another aspect of Fanon s thoughts is that whites in the middle class
treat blacks with a sense of subsidiarity to promote their own elevation. This statement can be justified
with Fanon s statement, By treating the Jew as an inferior and pernicious being, I affirm at the same
time that I belong to the elite. Although middle class whites are toward the outer rings of the hegemon,
they criticize blacks in order to attempt to propel themselves toward the inner hegemon. Particularly in

The Importance Of Mount Shasta Eruption
The cities of Weed, Mount Shasta City, McCloud, and Dunsmuir lie in the shadow of Mount Shasta
and could be devastated by an eruption. They lie close enough to the base of the mountain that they
could suffer damage from pyroclastic (hot gas, rock, and ash) and lava flows, tephra (rock fragments
and particles ejected by a volcanic eruption)., lahars (destructive mudflow), and ballistic ejecta. Based
on recent behavior, it is not likely that Mount Shasta will erupt catastrophic volumes soon. However,
smaller eruptions are possible. At least ten eruptions have taken place in California in the past 1,000
years according to the USGS. Most recently, Lassen Peak in Lassen Volcanic National Park had a
series of eruptions from 1914 to 1917. Concerned people and groups work with the government to
hopefully solve or at least slow global warming which could be so disastrous to not only Mount Shasta
but the entire planet Earth. Government funded studies had verified that the Mount Shasta area is the
ancestral home of the Wintu tribe and the mountain is central to the Indian belief systems (Nabov).
People must be aware of the delicate balance that can easily be disrupted and treat the area with
respect and care to preserve the beauty for coming generations. Mount Shasta was designated a

Persuasive Essay On Video Games And Violence
Video Games and Violence In today s world, one of the big topics is whether video games cause
violence. I strongly believe that it isn t the case. Having been an avid gamer for most of my life and
knowing thousands more, I have seen first hand video games do not cause violence. I know you don t
want to just take my word for it, so I will show you through others as well.
Video games in their entirety do not cause violence. When you look at the games that are out now,
most depict events in life past or present. Others go on a fairy tale ride that most people can discern
the difference. One of the biggest games of all time that go on the fairy tale ride is Grand Theft Auto.
GTA has been one of the best selling and most controversial games ever made Kids from all ages play
it with many adults advocating for its ban. I have played and enjoyed this game myself over the years
with friends and random people on the internet. Everyone that I have come across can always discern
the difference between the game and real life. The game itself has a beginning, middle, and end. The
main goal is to get to the end. Sure, you have to do some questionable things along the way but at the
end of the day there has been no proof to link this game to the real world violence and crimes. A study

Controlling a Crime Crisis After years of plaguing America s streets and taking millions of lives,
crime rates have finally given up their spot and drastically fallen. In the last decade, crime rates on the
streets have fallen near fifty percent from where they were in the beginning in North America
(Griffiths). It is no coincidence that crime rates fell so much while technology became an essential in
everyday American lifestyle simultaneously. America s streets are no longer one of the scariest places

Just in the last decade, there has been a 29% increase in crimes committed against residents and a 22%
increase for business losses due to online crimes (Meyer). Another large issue with technology is that
they monitor an individualś every move, for example, a phone company, AT T, was monitoring their
customers phones to be able to use your individual Web browsing information, like the search terms
you enter and the Web pages you visit, to tailor ads and offers to your interests (Silverman 282).
Although the increase in such crimes can potentially cause many issues and obstacles for an
individual, they do not physically harm anyone. Such crimes as internet fraud and any other crime that
can be committed online, are all fixable and can be prevented. There are security systems that can help
protect against frauds and prevent any more from occurring, which makes this issue much less crucial
to stop. It is also possible to contact police and bankers to stop this from occurring and they can help
you regain all of your losses. The government also has the NSA, the National Security Agency, to
monitor all internet movements, which helps stop many of these issues. New technology has helped
prevent an immense amount of street crimes, that without the internet, would have only continued to
rise, while millions of people would have continued to be murdered. The

Fisher and Harrison (2009), explain that inpatient treatment is positive for social interactions and
decreased isolation. When touring the facility the patients were spending time together showing
decreased isolation between them. The patients frequently have outings to activities such as a ropes
course or attending community AA or NA meetings. Lakeside Milam has 24 hour care for its patients
which make it less likely that the patients will use a substance while in treatment (Fisher Harrison,
2009). Under the least restrictive environment the patients have the right to walk out the door of the
facility at any time, the doors and windows remain unlocked from the inside. According to Fisher and
Harrison (2009), a least restrictive environment can have positive results. Clients should be placed in
the treatment setting that offers the least amount of restriction, with the highest probability of success
(Fisher Harrison, p. 147). My automatic reaction when Mary told me that the patients were in a least
restrictive setting was that I did not understand how that could work because I assumed the patients
would leave. Though inpatient treatment has many benefits, there is a risk that the patient will relapse
once back in the community because they were not prepared to face the real world (Fisher Harrison,
2009). Treatment Approach Not only is it important to look at a drug and alcohol facilities treatment

Reasons For The Housing Bubble
Introduction Housing bubble is basically a phenomenal increase in the real estate prices in local or
global markets to a point, where these prices are not sustainable and hence eventually decline abruptly.
One of the most detrimental housing bubbles that we have witnessed was the U.S housing bubble,
which was one of major reasons which led to the recession in the USA during 2007 2009. This bubble
can be indicated by the fact that nominal housing prices had increased by 188% from the year 1997 to
the year 2006, and then again fallen by 33% by the year 2009 (as per the S P/Case Shiller 20 City
Composite Home Price Index). There have been numerous explanations given by various authors and
economists regarding the causes of the U.S ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason which can be associated with the emergence of housing bubble has been the lowering
down of lending standards by the financial institutions, which led to mortgage lending being offered to
less credit worthy customers. Further, another significant factor which contributed to the U.S housing
bubble were the affordable lending policies adopted by the government in the early 1990s which
encouraged or rather forced the lending institutions to offer credit exposure to the communities and
neighbourhoods with low and moderate incomes. Therefore, one can notice that there are varied
opinions and views amongst economists regarding the causes of the housing bubble in USA and thus it
becomes imperative to analyse those opinions further in order to arrive at the most important cause (or
causes) behind the U.S housing bubble. So, in my research, I am going to investigate these causes
extensively and put forward my analysis about how this housing bubble was created, how it increased
to unsustainable levels, the effects of the bursting of this bubble and finally if and how it could have

Vincent Van Gogh As A Craftsman
Vincent van Gogh, a standout amongst the most understood post impressionist craftsmen, for whom
shading was the central image of articulation, was conceived in Groot Zundert, Holland on March 30,
1853.The child of a minister, raised in a religious and refined climate, Vincent was exceptionally
enthusiastic, needed fearlessness and battled with his character and with course. He trusted that his
actual calling was to lecture the gospel; notwithstanding, it took a long time for him to find his calling
as a craftsman. In the vicinity of 1860 and 1880, when he at last chose to end up plainly a craftsman,
van Gogh had officially experienced two inadmissible and troubled sentiments and had worked
unsuccessfully as an assistant in a book shop, a workmanship sales representative, and an evangelist in
the Borinage where he was rejected for enthusiasm. He stayed in Belgium to think about
workmanship, resolved to give bliss by making excellence. Crafted by his initial Dutch period are
serious conditioned, forcefully lit, sort sketches of which the most well known is The Potato Eaters

numerous Japanese prints. In 1886, he went to Paris to join his sibling Théo, the supervisor of Goupil

Research on the Effects and Causes of Global Warming Essay
All across the world, in every kind of environment and region known to man, increasingly dangerous
weather patterns and devastating storms are abruptly putting an end to the long running debate over
whether or not climate change is real. Not only is it real, it s here, and its effects are giving rise to a
frighteningly new global phenomenon: the man made natural disaster (Barack Obama, April 3, 2006).
What could be causing these extreme weather patterns? Scientists say that it is the gradual increase of
the temperature over the entire earth. Global warming is the increase in the average temperature all
over the earth. Global Warming is a major problem in the world today and is argued among all of the
world leaders. I am going to talk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With these extra gases in the atmosphere, more solar radiation is captured and reflected back down to
the earth s surface (Energy and the Environment). This is the problem that the world has made and
now we need to find the solution to this. There are many gases that are emitted into the atmosphere
that implicate the acceleration and poutiness of the greenhouse effect. These gases are called the
greenhouse gases; they are all a natural part of the atmosphere, but because of human interaction they
are increasing drastically. They are: carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane, nitrous oxide, hydro
fluorocarbons, per fluorocarbon, and sulfur hexafluoride, these seven gases are aiding in the
acceleration of global warming (Energy and the Environment). Carbon dioxide is a gas made up of
one carbon and two oxygen atoms; when infrared radiation enters the molecule it begins to shake
rapidly thus shooting radiation back out towards the earth (The Greenhouse Effect). When this occurs
the molecule is empty again and is allowed to have another greenhouse gas emitted into it; this cycle
is called the absorption emission absorption cycle (The Greenhouse Effect). This cycle is a main
attributor to the heating up of the earth s surface. The other six of the main greenhouse gases go
through this cycle and with all of these gases absorbing and reemitting radiation back towards the
earth the radiation levels have increased drastically. The

The Roles Of Children And Youth Actors Essay
Theatre feels like it is fading away from relevancy. Often times, theatre is dismissed at all levels,
whether it is from just community theatre or reserved for in laws and tourists. This means that theatre
has got two options. It will either become a completely rigid institution that loses its force and
relevance, or it needs to change and be able to become a powerful voice again. I think that what the
theatre needs is already available and in the theatre, but not used correctly. I feel that children are
some of the most important aspects of theatre and are overlooked because of archetypal child stars.
Now, this does not mean I endorse productions like Rent adapted for high schools or having twelve
year old s performing Spurt of Blood. Those sorts of plays are not appropriate and should be
performed by adults. However, that also means that they should be limited to Annie. I think that
children and youth actors are so beneficial because they offer the commitment, creativity, willingness,
and camaraderie that is needed to change theatre into an influential strength. Children in the theatre
have a lot of flaws. It is something that is impossible to overlook, so it must be acknowledged. They
do not always have the willpower not to look for family members in the audience or grab at costume
pieces that are uncomfortable. If it is a play that s cast is primarily children, they can quickly become
rowdy and run rampant backstage. When in the audience, they can become bored and

Theme Of Deception In Othello
In the play written by William Shakespeare Iago s attitude toward all the characters of the play is very
deceptive and manipulative using them for his own profit. He has the talents to deceive others
destroying their lives to better his own. His abilities to twist the truth is a highly useful tool to him.
Instead of using these abilities for the greater good, Iago falls down an evil path to become a villain
that hurts people and ruins lives. He uses strategies such as deception and manipulation to distract all
the people around him from his true motive. Persuasiveness and excellent word choice are his
weapons to get the position of lieutenant.
Unfortunately for everyone else Iago go exactly what he wants as you can see in Act 3 when Othello
says to Iago Now art thou my lieutenant. (3.3.545) This only happened because Iago had set up Cassio
to fail by getting him drunk and luring him into fight Montano which ended with Cassio stabbing but
not killing him in front of Othello.
One of the events after this was when Othello found out that his mother s handkerchief in Cassio s
house. This is significant Desdemona tells Othello She says, It is not lost; but what an if it were?
(3.4.83) thinking she has left it in the house somewhere as she had it earlier in the day, but Othello
knowing this is a lie is finally convinced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To make this conversation even more convincing to Othello Bianca (unplanned) shows up with
Desdemona s handkerchief giving it back to Cassio telling him she won t make a copy of it and he
needs to give it back to the whore he got it from as seen in the lines There; give it your hobby horse:
wheresoever you had it, I ll take out no work on t (4.1.154 155). This really set Othello over the bar.
After Cassio and Bianca leave Othello emerges from the bushes he was hiding in saying How shall I
murder him, Iago?

Why We Should Be Heading Towards Space Exploration
Why We Should Be Heading Towards Space
Space exploration is something that has intrigued mankind ever since science fiction writers of old
sparked the imagination of the people. Since then, we have made leaps and bounds towards space
travel with landing people on the moon, sending satellites to Saturn, the photos from the Hubble
Telescope and the rover, Curiosity, on Mars. These advances have provided information that will
prove to be beyond measure. While the cost of such information has been high, the benefits of the
information has been irrefutable. Ultimately, this information goes to support not only further
exploration of space, but also towards technologies that will benefit Earth directly. Two such projects
deal primarily with solar power and nuclear waste disposal. Both of these industries would benefit
immensely from such a service and would also generate the need for many space flights
(Coopersmith, 2012). According to Coopersmith (2012), Space based solar power (SBSP) promises
gigawatts of electric power with minimum environmental damage. Example like this go to show that
the inventions and benefits realized through space exploration reach far beyond the cosmos and into
the everyday lives of people.
Right off the bat, the question for most is, with all the benefits realized through space exploration
aside, what is the actual cost of these endeavors. The space shuttle program (now retired) was the
primary consumer when it came to taxpayer funds. According to

Alternative Dispute Resolution
Alternative Dispute Resolutions: Arbitration Clause
Saundra Stewart
Kaplan University
LS311 01: Business Law 1
Professor James Starcher
May 1, 2012
Disputes, disagreements, differing opinions, and arguments, what do they all have in common? They
all involve two persons or groups that have different ideas that are in conflict with the other. When
these differences arise we as a civilized society usually are able to work out some solution that may
work to the benefit of both parties. This process of resolving these conflicts is called Dispute
Resolution.
There are three basic categories of Dispute Resolution that are often used: 1) Negotiation; 2)
Mediation; And 3) Arbitration. Negotiation is the process where the two parties will ... Show more

This process does not stop as we grow older. As we age our life experiences have great input on how
our decision making process works and what values, beliefs, and standards that we seek to uphold.
The actions that occur as a result of our thinking process can be considered Ethics. In essence, Ethics
is a study of our actions that can be considered right or wrong behavior. (Miller, 2012, p. 61) Business
Ethics is the study of the decisions we make in the business environment and whether or not those
decisions are good or bad.
Two schools of thought are primary to Ethics and how we subscribe or view them. The first school is
considered Outcome based Ethics. This school of thought is also referred to as Utilitarianism. The
basic premise is that the end result of the action or decision justifies the action or decision that was
made or taken. Another way of putting it is that the ends justify the means. (Miller, 2012, p. 64) The
second school of thought is considered Duty based Ethics. Duty Based Ethics is often based on
religious percepts or philosophical reasoning. On the religious precepts, one example would be the
Christian used of the 10 commandments. Christianity bases its code of conduct and behavior on these
10 rudimentary principles for living and dealing with others. The philosophical approach was put

Garage Floor
More often than not, the garage floor is the last thing that comes to mind when we decide on home
renovation projects. But given how much the garage is used for storing lawn mowers, automobiles and
even offering a great place for kids to play in bad weather, using the correct option of garage floor
paint will improve the appearance of the whole garage. Moreover, it will stop spoiling the garage with
oil, grease and other liquid stains, extend the life of the floor and make it much easier to maintain the
garage by coating the permeable surface. Garage floors are usually concrete and not simply any paint
can be used successfully on this surface. Success with this project will require selecting the best
quality paint for the garage floor and appropriately setting up the floor for the application of paint. The
first step, which is the most difficult in garage floor painting, is the removal of everything to leave the
whole floor vacant. This is when you will realize how much you utilize the ... Show more content on

If the floor has been sealed, it will be important to remove the seal with muriatic acid to etch the floor
in order to let the paint adhere to the concrete. This acid can be purchased at the same place that
carries the paint and frequently comes with a kit of epoxy flooring. It should always be used according
to the instructions included. Always wear eye protection as this is an acid, even though it is a weak
one, and it can cause problems if it is splashed into your eyes. It is very vital to select the correct
garage floor paint. Only opt for floor paint that is specially intended for garage floors. Acrylic and
epoxy are the only two types that will offer sustainability. Latex is the simplest to use, requiring only a
clean floor, most often without the need for etching. But latex does not wear well and will require at
least two coats. Acrylic lasts a long time but it requires a primer and usually a sealing

  • 2. Empowerment Of Water In Annie John, By Jamaica Kincaid Water Oceans cover most of the Earth. They are essential for our environment since they produce more than half of the oxygen in the atmosphere. Without our vast sea, humankind would not be able to survive. In Annie John, written by Jamaica Kincaid water is demonstrated as a motif in literature showing the coming of age story of a young girl growing up in the Caribbean. The protagonist, Annie, grows learning how to properly balance the values of the colonized world and the native Caribbean culture, Obeah. Kincaid uses the motif of water as an empowerment to Annie s growth by curing, nurturing, and transforming her. Annie s safe haven as a young child consists of baths to help heal her from bodily aches. In the Obeah culture it is believed that water can cure someone from any body aches. Annie informs the reader of her childhood when she went to bathe in the sea after church, It was at a time when I was thought to have weak kidneys and a bathe in the sea had been recommended as a strengthening remedy (Kincaid 42). Bathing in the water is a remedy for Annie s body. The sea demonstrates a higher power since three quarters cover the earth s surface. Oceans are a natural force no mankind can replicate; therefore, they hold an influential component to heal Annie s weak kidneys. The Obeah culture is woven into Annie s lifestyle even through the colonized world; both cultures are simultaneously respected in her childhood. Thus, allowing water to heal Annie from any bodily aches ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Argumentative Essay On Confederate Statues Argumentative essay confederate Imagine walking through a town plaza and suddenly spotting a bust depicting Adolf Hitler, or a statue of a Nazi Swastika. A passerby may stare in horror upon its recognition, and wonder why a symbol of such hatred and violence is displayed prominently in a town. These statues would incite an uproar and immediate demands to remove such offensive monuments. Thankfully, such a situation would never arise in modern America; however, a similar plight is unfolding across the country concerning the removal of Confederate statues. Confederate statues should not be displayed in public areas because they are reminders of a time when racial violence went unpunished, they are honoring people who wanted to keep other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3 Another issue with the statues are the actual subjects monumentalized. Notable people that are commemorated with having models of themselves publicly displayed are usually figures that the people of America are proud of, like Abraham Lincoln or Harriet Tubman. Confederate statues, however, are the exception; for they are monuments that represent the institutionalization of racism. Our public spaces should not glorify historical policies of hatred and racism, argues Kevin Kamenetz, executive and president of the Maryland Association of Counties (Eversley 2017). That single phrase perfectly sums up what people across the country are attempting to convey, and expresses the main issue that many have with these statues. No person who fought for the right to keep humans as property is deserving of modern honor. 4 For people who oppose the removal of Confederate statues, history is said to be their biggest concern. Many believe that Ultimately, removal of the monuments will, quite literally, erase an unsavory but important part of our nation s history (Brophy 2015). They fear that by removing these symbols, America would be disregarding a huge part of its past. Yet, history itself would not be destroyed, as the impact of the Civil War lives on; only the tokens of oppression would be removed. 5 Speaking of oppression, the statues are reminders to the descendants of slaves of what their ancestors endured in the machinations of slavery on a day ... The headline directly corresponds with the two pictures and when combined, have great transmission power. It portrays the idea that if you re hip enough to sport blue hair, that driving a Buick is also the cool thing to do. The word still in the headline implies that young, hip, alternative people are already driving the new Buicks. In Buick s recent advertising campaign, they have focused on making sure people know that Buick has changed and that it isn t a car just for the elderly. Most people in the target market have probably never considered Buick because it s perceived as being a car for an older generation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Visual The visuals in this print ad meets the criteria of the four powers. Seeing a young woman with blue hair is uncommon, so it creates stopping power. It s intriguing enough to make someone want to peruse the rest of the ad. Once you read the headline, it s easy to understand that Buick is trying to appeal to a younger market by showing that someone in their demographic is driving this car. Perhaps, the fact that she is wearing glasses could allude to the idea that a smart, young person made the decision to purchase this type of car. Also, because she is wearing a stylish necklace and bracelets, instead of a choker and black spiky jewelry, she seems to be a trendsetter with class, not just a punk rock chick that is trying to rebel against society. This car brand has probably been perceived as only being driven by an older crowd. The ad could be appealing to someone in the younger crowd because they might be able to relate to the young woman driving the Buick. Locking power is achieved because the image of a young woman with blue hair is memorable. Someone who sees someone else with colored hair or maybe even someone that is a little different from the norm might think back to this ad. Because of this inherent need to compare data, economists have developed a way to collect nearly every type of statistics that may reveal the general health of the economy. These statistics actually tell if the economy is productive and efficient or if it is slow and inefficient. Included in these statistics are Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Consumer Price Index (CPI), Unemployment Rate, Retail Sales, Producer Price Index (PPI), and Personal Income. Included in this paper, Team A defines the preceding six indicators, and describes their status. Additionally, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There have been many indicators that have been developed to measure inflation. The CPI measures inflation as experienced by consumers through their everyday expenses. The Producer Price Index (PPI) measures inflation during the early stages of business development, such as production and sales. The best measure of inflation for a given application depends upon how one intends to use this data. CPI allows businesses to adjust prices based upon a comparison of the current cost of a defined set of goods and/or services to the cost of those same goods at a time in the past. It is also, the best measure to use to translate retail sales and hourly earnings into real or inflation free dollars (2005). The CPI is the most widely used measure of inflation and is sometimes viewed as an indicator of the effectiveness of government economic policy. It provides information about price changes in the Nation s economy to government, business, labor, and private citizens and is used by them as a guide to making economic decisions. In addition, the President, Congress, and the Federal Reserve Board use trends in the CPI to aid in formulating fiscal and monetary policies. Retail Sales Retail sales, represent an important component in the economy. Products sold by companies, such as Target and local retail stores are tracked and reported to the Census Bureau. Themes in Early American Literature Essays Themes of Early American Literature Early American literature does a tremendous job of revealing the exact conditions and challenges that were faced by the explorers and later by the colonists of the New World. From early shipwrecks to the later years of small colonies barely surviving through dreadful winters, the literary works of the time period focus on some very recognizable themes. The theme of any given work being simply the unifying subject or idea is a very important element of any piece of writing. As one reviews some of this early literature, it becomes obvious that several themes appear repeatedly, and it is these subjects that were clearly very common among people from all over the New World. While a number of themes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The explorer narratives, however, were not the only ones which described a dark and forbidding quality of the New World. The colonists at Jamestown and all along the eastern coast suffered through harsh winters with minimal supplies, causing many deaths and making life in the New World extremely challenging. For example, in William Bradford s Of Plymouth Plantation he remarks that 50 of the 102 Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth had died within the first year (Perkins and Perkins 50). The reasons for the high number of deaths in the colonies vary, but disease and harsh winters certainly claimed their share. In addition, the colonies struggled to establish crops and solid dwellings for months or years after they first landed, and supply ships proved to be unreliable at best. John Smith of the Jamestown Colony is responsible for writing The General History of Virginia, New England, and the Summer Isles in which he depicted the grievous condition of the colonists only days after the ships departed and left them to the mercy of the land (Reuben 6). He wrote, Being thus left to our fortunes, it fortuned that within ten days scarce ten amongst us could either go, or well stand, such extreme weakness and sickness oppressed us. (Perkins and Perkins 36). In the same piece of literature, Smith also noted another very ominous threat to the well being of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cathy Hansell, a mother who has not had to do traveling for her job recently, comments that it was one of the best things that has ever happened. Her husband is also at home more, traveling 50% less for his work, and in result, their family is experiencing much less stress than before (Guzman and Higgins 8). The terrorist attacks instilled a fear of traveling in Americans, but brought families back together in many ways. During these frightening times, parents have been much more likely to speak to their kids and be a comfort to them. Where there is communication, bonding can begin. Fear has also influenced people in unexpected ways. As one example, fantasy book series that deal with frightening topics such as Harry Potter and A Series of Unfortunate Events (by Lemony Snicket) have been on the rise in recent months. • 15. Summary Of Sylvie And The Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka Both Franz Kafka and Barbara Gowdy present the reader with protagonists who exist in a sensationalized and absurd state. Kafka s Gregor Samsa is a traveling salesman who wakes up one morning to discover the metamorphosis the transformation of his body into that of a giant cockroach like creature. Gowdy s Sylvie is a young girl who is born bonded with the legs of an undeveloped Siamese twin, her mother prefers, they refer to as Sue. Though a siamese twin is a real medical condition, albeit rare, the entire matter is presented by the author as having a degree of absurdity with realism not being the intent. In both Sylvie and The Metamorphosis, the absurd situations of the protagonists are a mechanism by which the authors present themes of the nature of humanity and social structures. In regards to social structures, both short stories present the concept of work in a manner tinged with a Marxist perspective. According to Karl Marx, The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles (8). Within the worlds in which Gregor and Sylvie live, their position of being a part of the underclass is a constant source of social strain. From the onset of the reader s introduction to Gregor, the reader is introduced to the tension between himself and his job as well as his lack of satisfaction in his work. In majority of literature, there is always a protagonist and antagonist, in which the protagonist is the hero or heroine. In the play Medea by Euripides, it can be said that Medea is the heroine of the story, but her foul acts cannot justify her as a genuine heroine. Her evil minded deeds can be compared to that of Jason who is considered to be the antagonist of the play. This brings up the theme of deceit and treachery as Jason deceitfully leaves his family for fame and fortune. Jason is a betrayer of [the] marriage bed (Euripides, 205) as he disrespected his marriage to Medea for fame and fortune from the princess. Euripides portrays relationships and marriage in a negative way as they are used as symbols for deceit and fury in Medea. Relationships are depicted as a sign of love, and communion but when adultery comes into play these aspects are taken away and manipulated into hatred, antagonism, and pain. Instead of writing a play on the ten years that Jason and Medea were happily married, Euripides chooses to focus on the times where the couple has feelings of hatred and disgust towards each other. Euripides deliberately chooses to write about the worst part of the relationship because he wants to focus on his negative perspective of humanity and also because he enjoys writing tragedies. Euripides s cynical outlook on society and portraying it negatively allows the playwright to excel in tragedies such as Medea. There is the constant outcry from parents and teachers that children are growing to be television obsessed zombies, or that the exposure to violence from their favorite shows are going to cause aggressive actions. But if that is true, then how is it that we as adults are able to stop ourselves from murdering everyone we see, especially if we have so many television programs with violence as a feature? The effect that television violence has on us does not come out in our behavior so much as our beliefs around the world. One of the often joked rules of television is that sex and violence sells. It may be said tongue in cheek, and yet we see it all the time in advertising, movies, or television. When asked for shows in regards of violence an incredible list immediately springs to mind: Criminal Minds, Law and Order, CSI, Blue Bloods, Sons of Anarchy, and more. Each year there is an increase in demands for plastic bags, and therefore more are shipped, creating further environmental pollution concerns. This increase in demand has lead to the phenomenal upsurge in the use and misuse of plastic bags globally, both in developed and developing countries. Statistics show that 4 to 5 trillion plastic bags are produced per annum, whereby North America and Western Europe account for nearly 80% (Geographical, 2005; Reusable Bags, 2005). Cheeseman (2007) states that approximately 380 billion plastic shopping bags are used in the United States annually ; in turn, only 0.6% of this is recycled. Almost 96% of plastic bags are disposed of in landfills (Williamson, 2003). This leads up to another problem as plastic bags are non biodegradable in other words, plastic bags do not biodegrade for over a thousand years (Stevens 2001). Plastic bags may also land in farms and in oceans which have an impact on the wildlife. Livestock such as cows may eat plastic bags while grazing. These pose a threat if ingested as they may tangle in their stomachs, causing serious injuries and potentially death (Dreyer et al, 1999; Rasmussen 1999). Each year over a billion birds and mammals die due to the ingestion of plastic bags (Baker, 2002). Many of these issues however, can be addressed and even resolved in several ways. White people will find any excuse to validate colonial racism with ideas such as God created them superior or that their colonization was solely to stimulate economic growth within that particular country. Another aspect of Fanon s thoughts is that whites in the middle class treat blacks with a sense of subsidiarity to promote their own elevation. This statement can be justified with Fanon s statement, By treating the Jew as an inferior and pernicious being, I affirm at the same time that I belong to the elite. Another reason which can be associated with the emergence of housing bubble has been the lowering down of lending standards by the financial institutions, which led to mortgage lending being offered to less credit worthy customers. Further, another significant factor which contributed to the U.S housing bubble were the affordable lending policies adopted by the government in the early 1990s which encouraged or rather forced the lending institutions to offer credit exposure to the communities and neighbourhoods with low and moderate incomes. Therefore, one can notice that there are varied opinions and views amongst economists regarding the causes of the housing bubble in USA and thus it becomes imperative to analyse those opinions further in order to arrive at the most important cause (or causes) behind the U.S housing bubble. I think that what the theatre needs is already available and in the theatre, but not used correctly. Now, this does not mean I endorse productions like Rent adapted for high schools or having twelve year old s performing Spurt of Blood. Those sorts of plays are not appropriate and should be performed by adults. However, that also means that they should be limited to Annie. I think that children and youth actors are so beneficial because they offer the commitment, creativity, willingness, and camaraderie that is needed to change theatre into an influential strength. Children in the theatre have a lot of flaws. It is something that is impossible to overlook, so it must be acknowledged. These advances have provided information that will prove to be beyond measure. While the cost of such information has been high, the benefits of the information has been irrefutable.
