Pitter Patter Day
Pitter Patter you hear the rain start to pour and you wonder what that sound is. It sounds like the
ground in sizzling. You look down and notice that the rain is sulfuric acid rain. Ray Bradbury was an
American fantasy and horror author who rejected being categorized as a science fiction author,
claiming that his work was based on the fantastical and unreal. In the short story, All Summer in a Day
by Ray Bradbury, the planet Venus is being swamped by storms of rain and thunder, never ceasing.
The constant pitter patter becoming annoying after a while. Margot, a nine year old from Earth, came
to Venus when she was four. There are scientists that predict when the is going to emerge from the
constant rain. And their kids, their terrible kids, treat Margot with inequality due to her experiences.
This central idea is displayed in the story when they lock her in the closet, don t believe her, and
harass her.
The overall idea is displayed in the story when the children from Venus lock her in a closet because
she told them the sun was coming out. A quote to support that is, But this is the day, the scientists
predict, they say, they know, the sun... ... let s put her in a closet before the teacher comes! No, said
Margot. They... caught her up and bore her... where they slammed and locked the door. They stood
looking at the door and saw it tremble from her beating and throwing herself against it. ... Then,
smiling, they turned and went out and back down the tunnel, just as the

The Importance Of Carbohydrates
When considering the way that our bodies gain energy to perform any task, the first thing that should
come to mind is carbohydrates. They are one of the main nutrients where we get our energy from, and
are defined as a compound made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, that is derived from plants and
provide energy (Thompson Manore, 2017, p. 100). Carbohydrates are divided up into two groups:
simple and complex carbohydrates.
Simple carbohydrates are commonly called sugar (Thompson Manore, 2017, p. 101). Simple
carbohydrates are found in a variety of foods such as fruits, vegetables, milk, and milk products where
natural sugars are found. Within this subgroup there are monosaccharides and disaccharides.
Monosaccharides are essentially one molecule of sugar, and happen to be the simplest type of carb
that is usually in the form of glucose. Glucose, fructose, and galactose are referred to as
monosaccharides. Disaccharides are a carb compound consisting of two sugar molecules that are
joined together (Thompson Manore, 2017, p. 101). Lactose, maltose, and sucrose are referred to as
disaccharides.
Complex carbohydrates are a nutrient compound consisting of long chains of glucose molecules
(Thompson Manore, 2017, p. 102). Complex carbs are found in foods that have whole grains, starchy
vegetables, and legumes. Starches, glycogen, and fiber are all types of polysaccharides which is
described as a complex carbohydrate consisting of long chains of glucose

Chronic Neuropathic Pain After Spinal Cord Injury
Chronic Neuropathic Pain after Spinal Cord Injury: Spinal cord injury (SCI) affects up to 500,000
people every year around the world (Singh et al., 2014) with devastating physical, psychological and
social consequences. SCI not only damages motor systems, it also directly affects sensory systems,
causing chronic, debilitating neuropathic pain. The incidence of neuropathic pain after SCI is
extremely high, with at least half and up to 90% of SCI individuals experiencing neuropathic pain,
described as paroxysmal pain that can be continuous and may be evoked by any sensory stimulus, not
necessarily painful. Current pharmacological interventions offer minimal, transient relief to a minority
(30%) of sufferers of SCI induced neuropathic pain (Cousins, 2012). Current treatment strategies
utilize conventional drugs for chronic pain, which only address pain symptomatically and cannot
provide lasting relief or prevent relapse of symptoms, leading to drug dependency and further
reducing quality of life for SCI patients. Due to the myriad events that take place after SCI,
delineating the causes of neuropathic pain development is difficult. Neuropathic pain in general, and
more so in SCI, has an inherent degeneracy in mechanisms, which is likely why targeted
pharmacological treatment approaches often fail to provide significant relief.
Chronic neuropathic pain after SCI is a central pain syndrome, by definition arising directly due to
damage to or dysfunction of the CNS. While SCIs are

Air Superiority Case Study
Defense campaigns and establishment of air superiority by the Allies played a key role in changing the
course of the European theater of World War II. In North Africa, the RAF bombed and defeated
German commander Erwin Rommel and prevented him from reaching the vital Suez Canal, which
would have gave the Germans access to the Indian Ocean. British aircraft fired their rockets, attacking
German artillery and enemy transports. A German Panzer Commander described the failure of his
counterattack against aircraft and said, ...they [the Spitfires, Typhoons, and Mustangs] came in
hundreds, firing their rockets at the concentrated tanks and vehicles. We could nothing against them
and we could make no further progress. In addition to defense on land, the ... Show more content on

It was later determined that no Allied strategy in Europe was feasible until the U boats were destroyed.
Allied forces then looked to the RAF as a possible contender to defeat the submarines that were
terrorizing the Western European coasts. Soon, airpower emerged as the most effective weapon
against the deceptive U boats. The United States Air Force allocated several B 24 Liberators, heavy
bombers that were retrofitted with radar and depth charges, to the RAF Coastal Command, which
patrolled the waters for German submarines. In the Battle of the Atlantic in 1943, these aircraft of the
RAF coastal command destroyed many U boats out of the water and forced Germany to withdraw
their submarines from the lanes in the Atlantic, allowing ships transporting supplies to Allied countries
to travel the oceans and coasts with little resistance. Admiral Karl Dönitz of the Kriegsmarine, the
Nazi Naval Branch, realized how much the Allied aircraft were harrying his U boats and he stated
after the war how this was the decisive factor that won the Battle of the

Catholic Church Propaganda
Propaganda is a type of communication that aims to get a response that satisfies the objective of the
propagandist. Persuasion works both ways regarding the need to satisfy the subject being persuaded
and the persuader. Propaganda is an example of how tactics such as persuasion and communication
are used in the propagandistic form of communication. Because both of these devices are used in
communication, we can categorize propaganda as an extremely relevant form of communication.
Propaganda, made simple, is the manipulation and management of the opinion of the public. It is
typically brought about through media that is able to reach a very large audience, and successfully
persuade them to form their opinion for or not in favor of a particular ... Show more content on

Because of this propaganda is widely known as a negative term. Many people struggle with the idea of
whether propaganda is morally right or wrong. Although there are many examples or propaganda
being used negatively, there are also more sublte forms of propaganda that achieve the goal of
persuasion and gratify the desires of the propagandist without lies. White and black propaganda is
another element of propaganda that are important when discussing it. White propaganda is not viewed
at harshly as black propaganda. White propaganda is based more on truth by portraying a clear desired
purpose, and having an obvious source. Although white propaganda may not be entirely based on
truth, it s objective is less hidden than black propaganda which is unsderstood to be the most deceitful

Catcher In The Rye Journey
The maturing of oneself is not only a journey of self discovery, but a process of the mind. In the
Catcher in the Rye, written by J.D. Salinger we follow a teenager who s ups and downs fill the plot of
the book. The teenager, Holden Caulfield, shows the reader what it can be like when going through
many tragedies as a young adult. The book is followed by a set of many questions. Throughout the
book you find the answer to these question and why Holden becomes what he becomes. Relating to
these questions, the thoughts of Holden s sanity and happiness are pulled under the microscope. As the
novel the Catcher in the Rye progresses, Holden Caulfield finds himself on a journey to maturity; he
goes from being an angry teenager that dislikes phonies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, when Holden is watching Phoebe on the carousel he talks about what truly growing up
is. He says , All the kids kept trying to grab for the gold rings and so was Old Phoebe, and I was sort
of afraid she d fall off the goddam horse... The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold
ring, you have to let them do it, and not say anything (Salinger 211). This part in the book finally
shows us that Holden has realized you can t hold back growing up. And in turn Holden grew up a little
himself. When Holden says you have to let them do it , he means you have to let them grow up. This
is one of the biggest climaxes of the whole book because Holden has now created a new persona of
just being a teen, and not as a protector or a catcher, he just is a teen who is growing up. Consequently,
the book is starting to show Holden is showing a conclusion to his immature

What Freedom Means To Me As An American Citizen
According to the Scott, Foresman Advanced Dictionary, freedom means having the power to do, say,
or think as one pleases. To me, freedom means being able to show emotion in public. With freedom, I
can feel safe, confident and secure in my country. To me, freedom also means having a voice and
letting it be heard. With freedom, I get to make my own decisions and choices. I am lucky as an
American citizen to have freedom and rights, but some countries aren t as lucky as we are. Some are
still stuck under dictatorships. To me, freedom means having rights. Americans are lucky that we have
the Bill of Rights. The Bill of RIghts are the first ten amendments to the US Constitution. One
amendment from the Bill of Rights is, Congress shall make no

Tactical Skills In National Security
According to Army Sustainment Magazine, over the past 10 years sustainment unit training efforts
have focused primarily on building and developing soldiers tactical skills at the cost of their technical
military occupational specialty (MOS) skills. This off balance training focus and overdependence on
contract support has resulted in a battle hardened force of sustainment soldiers, many of whom lack
technical proficiency because they have not been working in their MOSs. Currently we are facing a
resource constrained environment, funding for contracts is being significantly reduced along with
several other resources, and soldiers are once again expected to perform their technical missions
(Rettman, 2013, para. 5). This is problematic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A soldier that is skilled only in tactical operations but is inferior in his actual job is a risky situation
and vice versa. In an operational environment, regardless of job or individual MOS, each soldier risks
exposure to hostile actions. A solider down range may be confronted with a life or death situation; not
only from a tactical perspective but also a technical perspective. Making mistakes in general, tactical
or technical, may have the same catastrophic results. We must get back to building soldiers up in their
technical skills so that they will be proficient in the MOS tasks they need to know, the tasks they came
in the Army to learn and perfect. A soldier working in his MOS is a happy soldier who will stay in the
unit and in the Army. He may also develop into a highly proficient NCO or warrant officer candidate
(Rettman, 2013, para. 9). A soldier that is confident in his specific trade will boost self confidence,
leading to better decision making and strategic advancement on the battlefield.
I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills
(Department of Army Headquarters, 2015). These words are recited by soldiers starting in basic
training, but have you ever asked yourself what those tasks and drills are? In my opinion, warrior tasks
are a collection of individual soldier skills known to be critical to survival. Examples include weapons

Snow Goose Overpopulation
The Overpopulation of the Snow Goose in North America
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore available research on the overpopulation of the Snow Goose on
the North American continent. The snow goose has been rising in population since the middle of the
century and has been escalating so much it is destroying their natural habitat. Wildlife managers have
just recently begun to implement strategies to combat this problem. Mainly through the use of hunters
the managers are trying to curb the population growth.
Introduction
There are three main species of Snow Goose of primary concern. The Lesser Snow Goose (LSGO) is
the must abundant and at the same time most troublesome. Ross Goose (ROGO) is very similar to the

Hunting of the Greater Snow Goose was banned in the us from 1931 75 (Abraham and Jeffries 1998).
Hunting was not allowed to promote population numbers, and once started in 1975 did not have a high
harvest. The LSGO and ROGO starting in the middle of the 60 s and continually have extended their
nesting range south into less extreme climate (Abraham and Jeffries 1998). It has also been suggested
that since birds are now living longer the older adults are now leading the less wary young to safer
sites and out of hunter s range (Ingstrup 1998). Ingstrup also suggests that the artic may be warming
and as Abraham and Jeffries cited there has been shown a correlation between the snow melt and
survival of nesting birds and their young. According to Hodge the annual kill by hunters in 1970
neared 40% but in 1994 the rate had dropped to less than 8%. Thus allowing a great deal of the adult
population to return to nesting sites in the spring.
Impact on habitat
The snow geese still nest in a primarily salt marsh environment. The geese have a detrimental feeding
behavior in which they pull up the marsh grass by the roots. This behavior is know as grubbing and
when done in mass quantities can destroy whole marshes for decades. A project known as the Hudson
Bay Project: Ecosystem Studies and Conservation of Coastal Arctic Tundra has done extensive

Do the Right Thing (1989) is about a young black man, Mookie, living in a Puerto Rican
neighborhood in Brooklyn with his sister. He works at a local pizzeria, Sal s Pizzeria, and has a
girlfriend named Tina with whom he has a kid with and his name is Hector. Sal can been seen as racist
in some scenarios, but not nearly as racist as his son Pino who also works at the Pizzeria. Pino dislikes
African Americans, but most of his favorite celebrities are black. Sal has another son, Vito, who also

There Will Come Soft Rains And Meeting At Night
Poems are usually based on life experiences have a common thread connecting them together. The
poems There Will Come Soft Rains by Sara Teasdale and Meeting at Night by Robert Browning both
share connections. These poems are both about nature; however, they are also connected through
personification, tone, alliteration. Alliteration is one of the most significant ways they are connected.
Alliteration can be described as the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words. The
speaker of the poem There Will Come Soft Rains begins by saying, There will come soft rains and the
smell of the ground / And swallows circling with their shimmering sound, (Teasdale 1 2). As well as
when the speaker of Meeting At Night starts off the poem by explaining, The gray sea and the long
black land / And the yellow half moon large and low, (Browning 1 2). The two poems both share the
evident use of alliteration. The speaker of There Will Come Soft Rains uses the consonant sound of
the letter s to start many of the words in the first two lines. Likewise, in Meeting ... Show more

The speaker of There Will Come Soft Rains explains the sound of the swallows as shimmering which
usually has a good connotative meaning which makes the reader think of bright, happy, pretty things.
As well as in Meeting at Night the speaker describes the beach as warm scented which the reader will
think of good, warm comforting things. Because both of these poems use words to describe nature as
nice and beautiful, the tone of these poems is similar. The tone of these poems connects them as well

How To Regulate Alcohol And Tobacco Advertising
Alcohol and tobacco advertising is not a new concept to this world. Alcohol and tobacco advertising
has been going on since the mid 1900 s. During this time, alcohol and tobacco ads were on the TV
almost as much as regular programs (Danna). This source is credible because the author has written
many articles for the Chicago Tribune before. When alcohol and tobacco advertising first started they
actually argued that smoking and drinking was beneficial for the human body. Since then, the Alcohol
and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau and many other departments have tried to put in laws and acts to
help regulate the advertisement of alcohol and tobacco. For example, laws such as the Federal
Cigarette Labeling and Advertising Act of 1965 , and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

reasons why the government should try to maybe add a few more stricter laws to help regulate the
advertising of alcohol and tobacco in The United States of America. This is because it is really starting

Management Styles
There are three main types of management styles. These are autocratic, consultative and democratic.
Autocratic
The autocratic management style is one where the manager is used to give instructions. They tell
people what to do instead of asking for their opinion on the matter in hand. The manager is the only
person contributing to the decision making process in the business.
Consultative
The consultative management style is where managers consult other people before making a decision.

Sainsburys Management Styles
From our interview with Emma Davis manager at the kingswood branch I found that sainsburys
operate in a democratic style as team meetings are arranged so ideas and problems can be put forward
and dealt with as a team. These meeting are mostly informal. Although Emma believed that the
company operated in a democratic style I talked to employees lower down in the company and asked
them what they thought. I got a different reaction from them, they thought that sainsburys operated in
more of an autocratic management style, whereby managers tell people what to do instead of asking
for their opinions. This is interesting to look at, the managers believe that employees are responsible
to make their own decisions and employees believe that mangers order them to do things. I also think
that in some situation sainsburys use other styles. For example if an employee is underachieving and
not contributing as much s he or she should, it is not other employees who have to make the decision
on if the guilty employee is worth keeping in the business or not. That decision will be down to the
manager.
There are several managers spreading up the hierarchy. This means that every manager (expect the
chairman) has some decisions made for him or her and other decisions they have to make. Also these
decisions are made for them so are going to involve

Internally African, Indian and European settler interests were also at variance. More often than not
European settlers had the ear of pro settler governors. Moreover, in the interest of capital these
policies were anchored on partial dissolution and restructuring of pre colonial structures. It was also in
the interest of capital to place the market under the colonial state s control. This was done with greater
enthusiasm during the post Second World War period more popularly known as the second colonial
occupation. Colonial commodity production, because of inappropriate practice, led to widespread
environmental degradation. Forest concessions, which were granted to individuals and companies led
to massive deforestation. Colonial enterprises destroyed local industries. Generally the colonial
economic policies in Kenya were instrumental in incorporating the pre capitalist communities into the
colonial and international economic systems. This persisted into the post colonial period. Similarly,
Christian missionary activities destroyed African culture through the gospels of salvation, obedience
and work. Through Western education, which they dominated despite the colonial state s role,
Christian missions preached against African cultures. They were emphatic that the Africans salvation
must be gauged on the extent to which traditional cultural practices were abandoned. Their

Starbucks On Clemson University Campus
On Monday, October 17 from one p.m. until two p.m. I observed people s behavior in Starbucks on
Clemson University campus. The majority of the population consisted of students most likely ranging
from eighteen years old to twenty four years old. This time of day seemed to be particularly busy, and
from where I was sitting I observed human behavior as they interacted within the space. The room
itself had an ordering area, an area to gather while waiting for your drink, and then multiple seating
arrangements, such as booths, high tables, large tables, and small tables. Even with all the furniture the
space had little obstructions, making it easy to oversee activity. People s interaction with others
depended greatly on whether or not they were with other people. If someone was alone they did not sit
at a table that had four or more chairs, instead they would opt for a table that was made for two
people. Pairs of people meeting each other at the location hugged, but when saying goodbye, they
simply walked away, not stopping to give a farewell. Groups tended to consist of younger students,
while individuals were more likely to be older students. While waiting to order their drink groups
would talk loudly, but upon sitting each individual would pull out something to occupy them and all
talking ceased. The talking amongst others in line gained the attention of people sitting down,
especially those that were sitting alone. If a group looked up at people talking in line there

Shakespeare s Sister
Virginia Woolf in the chapter Shakespeare s Sister from A Room of One s Own states that women in
the 19th and 20th century did not have the same privileges and opportunities that men got in their
lifetime, thus not being able to explore their passions of writing and art, rather being the slave of any
boy whose parents forced a ring upon her finger (694). She uses this to argue why women are seen as
inferior to men and that if women had had the same freedoms to live life contrary to what society
insists, they would be able to write like Shakespeare and have an equal playing field to men.
One of Woolf s main points in her essay is that women did not get the same opportunities as men and
were discouraged by society to write, act, and make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Woolf states: Because the mind of an artist, in order to achieve the prodigious effort of freeing whole
and entire the work that is in him, must be incandescent, like Shakespeare s mind, (703). By this she
means that men had the freedom to write, they did not have society discouraging them, or putting
roadblocks in their way. Women could not think for themselves because society was constantly telling
them what they should do and who they should marry, and encouraging them to be mothers, rather
than leaders. Having to live up to society s expectations certainly did not let women have an
incandescent mind. Woolf also states: The world did not say to her as it said to them, Write if you
choose; it makes no difference to me. The world said with a guffaw, Write? What s the good of your
writing (701). This lack of encouragement for women made it difficult for them to achieve their
dreams and be able to showcase their talents to the world.
This false notion of men being intellectually superior to women was a widely accepted idea in the 19th
century. Woolf explains, there was an enormous body of masculine opinion to the effect that nothing
could be expected of women intellectually (702). By this, one could infer that women were only seen
for their beauty, and as wives. This objectification of women is seen in society today through media s
portrayal of women, and through many cultural norms of women being expected to stay at home and

Art Vs Old Art
Art is a good way for people to relax and admire the power of human creativity, a lot of pieces of art
will make you agape at the beauty of it. However, old art pieces created centuries ago are starting to
fall apart. Scientific studies are being conducted on each piece of art trying to figure out how exactly
the artist created these masterpieces, and to possibly find a way to stop them from withering away, and
to keep them around for many more centuries to come and so many more generations of people can
see. Science has some part in everything, even art. There are many different ways science is involved
in art, they can conduct a study on what people like in art to try make a new masterpiece, or why
people are so infatuated with the older pieces. However, this is not the main studies on art. Old art is
falling apart and we need to find a way to fix it. A group of scientists from Italy have started a
program called MOLAB in which they go to art galleries across the world and study art pieces. They
have looked at countless pieces across the world, and have figured out the many different colors in
some art pieces which can range to about 600 different colors; they also find out how many layers of
paint are on one painting or on one specific spot. Jason Palmer, a scientist working for MOLAB was
working on a newer painting called Victory Boogie Woogie by Piet Mondrian said this painting is

These variables look at understanding how students acquire knowledge and their attitudes towards

Symptomatic Knee Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is the most common rheumatic disease, primarily affects the articular cartilage and the
subchondral bone of a synovial joint, eventually resulting in joint failure. People with progressive
symptomatic knee osteoarthritis experience pain and increasing difficulty with daily functional
activities. In fact, knee osteoarthritis bears more responsibility than any other disease for disability in
walking, stair climbing and housekeeping.
Currently, no cure for osteoarthritis is known. However, disease related factors, such as impaired
muscle function and reduced fitness, are potentially amenable to exercise therapy. Exercise therapy
takes a multitude of forms and results in numerous systemic and local effects, some of which have

concluded the following:
High quality evidence suggests that land based therapeutic exercise provides benefit in terms of
reduced knee pain and improved quality of life and moderate quality evidence of improved physical
function among people with knee osteosteoarthritis.
It can be assured that any type of exercise programme that is performed regularly and is closely
monitored can improve pain, physical function and quality of life related to knee osteoarthritis in the
short term.
The magnitude of immediate treatment effects of exercise on pain and physical function increases with
the number of face to face contact occasions with the healthcare professional.
Mediating effects of exercise dosage and disease severity on the effectiveness of exercise could not be

attention in 1988 when thirteen black legislators were attempting to jump a fence to extract the
confederate flag from a top of the Alabama s capitol flagpole. Governor, at the time, Guy Hunt had the
men arrested and this arrest became national television news coverage. One contributing factor for this
incident gaining a high volume of attention, was Tom Reed. Tom Reed was one of the black Tuskegee
legislator, leader of the thirteen men and at the time current president of the NAACP Alabama chapter.
Tom Reed and Guy Hunter are the results of a dispute lasting over two decades. Beforehand Governor
George Wallace used the position of the flag as a symbolic opposition to the Attorney General Robert

The growth rate of the U.S GDP stands at 3.23 percent from 1947 up to 2016(Cuñat amp; Melitz,

conduct tasks appropriately. The comparative advantage identifies the economy, which produces the
goods with the lowest opportunity cost.
The United States has an absolute advantage over the technological products and services which are
critical. Within the global markets, the U.S has been able to provide tech products and services
appropriately. However, it has comparative advantage of offering tech services while the absolute
advantage exists in technology design and providing industrial capacity. The U.S is a major exporter
in the international markets of products such as civilian aircraft, semiconductors, cars, car accessories,
fuel oil, and organic chemicals among others. Such exports improve the U.S s comparative and

the cause of their injured are different from each other. Between soccer and football, the most common
injuries are knee and ankle injured. Soccer players often get injured more often than football players,
whenever they are on the field. In between this two sport, it seems like someone always get injured
whenever the event is held.
First, the cause of the injured between soccer and football different from each other. Both the soccer
and football player would twist their ankle and hurt their knee during the game. For soccer players, the
cause of their injured are running and kicking the ball all over the field and sometimes twist their
ankle while running. Sometimes for soccer players while they have the ball the other team would sly
kick the ball and miss; but when that person missed, the sly kick would hit the other player knee or

How Did Nikola Tesla Impact The World
How could a world so dependent on technology live without the scientific advances of Nikola Tesla?
Tesla, a physicist, electrical engineer, and inventor, is to thank for many of the inventions we often
take for granted. Nikola Tesla has, in his lifetime, affected more lives than most, continuing to impact
today s generation. Though there were many other scientists in his day, Tesla rose above all and has

Sociocultural Food Taboos Under The Larger Umbrella...
Preface In this paper, I aim to document various sociocultural food taboos under the larger umbrella
concept of the sacred and profane, a sociologically ubiquitous dichotomy found worldwide. I will do
so by introducing various cultural examples of food taboos and explanative theories of food avoidance
practices. Ideally, this paper will introduce the reader with the complex social pre and proscriptions of
the sacred and profane and the affect of which on food consumption practices. Food taboo is present in
all societies in one form or another. The extent of food taboos vary between cultures and societies, yet
restriction of food resources is ever present in all social systems, even when the taboo goes unnoticed
or is accepted under the guise of normative behavior of a particular social group. Supporting this point
is the simple comparison of all available food resources to consumed food resources. In no society is
the complete available food resources used as food, or perceived as fit for consumption. The food
perceived as fit for consumption is considered sacred, nourishing, and healthy, while food resources
considered unfit are those tethered to concepts of the profane, unclean, and unhealthy, which
ultimately harm the physical and spiritual body. Food taboo acts as a method to ensure or regain both
spiritual and physical health and is ubiquitously concerned with the maintenance of wellbeing.
Animistic societies are imbedded in a universe of spirits, which when

The Rising Concerns of Underage Drinking Essay
Alcohol is a drink that possesses a seducing effect to tempt many citizens. Adults worldwide consume
countless cans of beers, wine, vodkas, and other alcohol beverages. However, its luring quality has
been secretly shared to minors, resulting to a problem called Underage Drinking. This situation has
existed for quite some time. In the past, underage drinking was considered a miniscule crime, and
wasn t strictly restrained or monitored. As we continued to remain oblivious, numbers of adolescent
drinkers have gradually increased as they used the tolerant rules to their advantage. Now, the problem
has become significantly noticeable, and we can no longer neglect it. High school, even middle school

Children tend to absorb the contents with a sense of judgment. This is because their curiosity
sometimes leads to terrible consequences, in this case, the addiction to alcohol. A national study ...

underage youth. Specifically, for each additional ad a young person saw ... he or she drank 1% more.
For each additional dollar per capita spent on alcohol advertising in a local market ... young people
drank 3% more (Alcohol Advertising and Youth). Therefore, the commercials do have a great impact
to the number of drinking adolescents, since the number of underage alcohol consumption rises as
advertisement rates rise. If such commercials continue to display on the media without any types of
appropriate content filters, the number of teenage alcoholics will continue to rise as years pass by. As a
result, we must greatly reduce the number of commercials referring to alcohol products, to minimize
the possibility to create future drinkers under the legal age. Education is another great way to prevent
the number of teenage alcoholics from rising any further. We can control this situation with just a
couple lessons and speeches to inform kids about the consumption of alcohol by explaining how it
affects their mind psychologically. Sure, drinking may cause stress relief and relaxation to the
teenagers burdened with the amount of schoolwork and deciding their future. However, when

However, based on the article, Malaysia Air s main union leaned on the country s politicians to squash
the share swap because of concerns about cost cuts. Those fears were well founded. Malaysia Air has
been bleeding losses because of rising competition and soaring fuel prices. The tie up was meant to
reduce overlap between the two Malaysia based carriers on some routes, cut expenses and help shore
up Malaysia Air s balance sheet. AirAsia s shares have lost about a quarter of their value since the
swap was announced last year. There is room to rise. According to the Winning Customers in the

evidence provided by the other characters to suggest why she might have killed her husband.
Comments and reflections by the other characters that do appear on stage give us hints on why she

In the beginning, the play starts with five characters are in the kitchen of the Wright farmhouse. The
five characters are the sheriff, the county attorney, Mr. and Mrs. Hale, and the sheriff wife Mrs. Peters.
The sheriff tells Mr. Hale, a neighbor farmer, to tell the County Attorney Mr. Henderson what he

that he cannot speak with Mr. Hale cause he s dead (526). When he asked what he died of she said, He

Overcoming Obstacles In Everyday Life
In our everyday life we are thrown with obstacles therefore most people try to go around them.
However I think it s just a matter of wanting to overcoming them. In the world we live in today there
advantages and disadvantages we just have to make the best of the good and bad that come with it. No
matter what the case may be, there nothing worse than not wanting to make the best of it. Everyone
always says If they throw you lemons, make a lemonade. What they are referring to is that no matter
what the circumstance is you can turn it into something positive. For example, I have a little cousin
who has cancer well actually had she is cured now. She was a normal seven year old little girl,
however when she started getting older she started developing cancer. It was tough for her, because
while other kids were out playing she had to be in a hospital getting treatment. Also my uncle s didn t

vernacular liturgy was from the Anglican Book of Alternative Services (BAS) he relaxed somewhat.
He seemed particularly interested in my idiomized setting of Psalm 148 to the tune of Vera Lynn s hit

his religious conditioning did not permit him to regard Vera Lynn s 1940 s swing style of music as a

The Most Common Way Computers Use Communication
Society is based on flourishing technology. The main source of technology today is computers.
Computers are everywhere and they have many modern uses. Without computers the modern
generation would not exist. Since computers have such an important role in communicating and
gaining information, it would almost be impossible to perform these activities without them. Over the
past few years, computers have become an essential asset in the way business industries run and make
decisions. Computers are transforming the way one lives; they have impacted every aspect of social
and business life. Therefore, one must have knowledge of basic computer skills and software in order
to keep up in the business world because these skills are essential in communication, management,
and research.
Communication is the key to gain and maintain clients and other important contacts (Crowder). Email
is the most common way computers use communication. An email account gives a business quick
access to instant messaging in addition to contacts. Being able to contact coworkers from a computer
has made communication extremely efficient. Every company has an email for customer service so
they can keep their customers updated and satisfied. When companies hire new employees, they
usually look through a personal email with someone s resume attached to it. This gives the employer

The Market Theory, Meaning, And Market
DFA has had a very consistent strategy since its inception in 1987. They use academic research as the
backbone of their decisions. At the heart of their strategy is the efficient market theory, meaning that
in liquid markets, prices reflect all available information. This is contrary to most mutual funds that
attempt to continually beat the market. Instead DFA looks to academic research to invest in asset
classes that historically produced higher expected returns and structure their holdings around those
classes. This enables them to stay passive but add alpha over index funds. Other sources of alpha are
contributed by block trading and buying in bulk at a discounted price, and finally by constructing
products for niche tax advantages. Ultimately DFA is not looking to profit by exposing arbitrage in the
market but instead building strategies under the assumption of fair pricing allowing them to focus their
attention on investments that compensate investors for taking. Under these assumptions, the market
risks come at a premium which may allow for higher expected returns. They put a strong weight on
academic research and results from practicing investors that show robust long term strategies. The
research behind their beliefs show that small companies have higher expected returns than large
companies, high B/M value companies have higher expected returns than low B/M growth companies,
and finally companies with high profitability have higher expected returns than

Without Visible Permanent Deformation Of A New Guardrail
without visible permanent deformation. This load requirement is applied at any point distributed over
50 millimeters from any direction. Also, if the guardrail is a flexible barrier such as chain or cable than
it should not deflect from the minimum force or 1,000 Newtons as well. This load is applied more
than 80 millimeters from the normal undeflected position of the flexible barrier. Also, the standards
state that fixed guardrails can be replaced by retractable guardrails or handrails or handholds to make
transporting from jobsite to jobsite easier (Standardization, 2011). These standards give the team a
specific set of dimension and load constraints for the design of a new guardrail. The dimensions of the
guardrail the team is designing shouldn t be much different than the current design. The team believes
the load requirement will be the biggest requirement to meet, since the current design is failing from
vibration loads. This set of standards states that the replacement of a fixed guardrail for a retractable
guardrail is allowed. This states that the purpose of the project follows the international standards; the
only difference is the project is called a collapsible guardrail. Expected Results/ Outcome
Expectations Determining how a project will turn out is somewhat puzzling when looking at the big

Effects Of The Battle Of Waterloo
The Battle of Waterloo and its Effect on Today s Artillery
Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the world s greatest military strategists, led the French at the Battle of
Waterloo. During his time as a General, even in defeat, his tactics in the way he used artillery were
beyond reproach. His successes and errors made throughout the Battle of Waterloo had a direct effect
on how we use artillery today.
The Battle of Waterloo, which took place on 18 June 1815, was the final battle of the Napoleonic wars
and ended Napoleon s reign as emperor. The French marched into Belgium with 70,000 troops and
256 artillery pieces (Stevenson, n.d.). They were met by the British Army led by, the Duke of
Wellington, Arthur Wellesly. Combined with its allies (Germans, Belgians, Dutch, and Prussians), the
British Army consisted of 67,000 troops and 156 artillery pieces.
Napoleon s greatest strength was the use of artillery, but with the heavy rain preceding the battle, he
worried that the muddy battlefield would restrict his artillery from advancing. This led to a fatal
miscalculation he decides not to attack until midday, in an attempt to allow the battlefield to dry. The
delay, would allow Marshal Blucher s Prussian Army enough time to join the fight.
Napoleon starts the battle by bringing up 74 artillery pieces and begins bombarding the British with
canon fire. They sweep and zone the battlefield with 3000 rounds over 30 minutes. To counteract the
artillery fire, Duke Wellington

Fallacies are committed in every state, in every city and in every neighborhood. No race or gender is
impervious to committing a fallacy. So, what is a fallacy? Patrick J. Hurley defines a fallacy as, A
defect in an argument that consists in something other than false premises alone. These defects result
in misconception in an argument. Many times they are accidental, other times they are committed on
purpose. However, either way, fallacies can be very persuasive to the casual reader or listener. One in
particular, the false cause fallacy, is used quite often in today s society. Hurley states that, The fallacy
of false cause occurs whenever the link between premises and conclusion depends on some imagined
causal connection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A remedy society knows as trial and error. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) use
fallacies in almost all of their advertisements. In fact, Veggie Love, a super bowl video ad by PETA,
claims that vegetarians have better sex. In the video, gorgeous women dressed in lingerie are groping
broccoli, asparagus and even a licking a pumpkin. This video commits the false cause fallacy because
it expresses that people are having great sex because they are vegetarians. In addition, if a person
wants to have great sex, they need to become a vegetarian. It is also possible that an argument commit
more than one fallacy at a time. This video also commits the hasty generalization fallacy, because it
states that if you eat vegetables you will have great sex with gorgeous women, therefore the obvious
conclusion is that all vegetarians have great sex! To tell these two different types of fallacies apart a
reader or listener must know what defines these two types of fallacies. Because Veggie Love focuses
on vegetarians and great sex, and PETA claims that there is a causal connection between the two, it
can be defined as a false cause fallacy. Because the video also claims that people who eat vegetables
have great sex, we can assume that all vegetarians have great sex which can be defined as

The Movies Badlands ( 1973 ) And Days Of Heaven
The movies Badlands (1973) and Days of Heaven (1978) are both directed by the acclaimed movie
maker Terrence Malick. Both of these films have been deemed culturally significant by the Library of
Congress and have been inducted in 1993 and 2007 respectively. The basis of this paper is to take
these two movies and shed some light behind their creator s process. The justification for this analysis
is to prove with examples that Terrence Malick is an example of an auteur. Through the use of mise en
scene, sound, and editing it can be seen that the two films in question are decidedly of a certain style
that is unique to Terrence. Beginning with the mise en scene components incorporated in Badlands, it
is shown throughout that Terrence Malick really enjoys nice natural light for the majority of his shots.
Of course this goes hand in hand with the majority of the film taking place either outdoors, or inside
of a car. Whether it be inside or out the sun does most of the job in that department. Now, dissecting
the components behind the wardrobes, Kit s denim jacket and jeans really define him. The reason why
Terrence made that choice for what he wore is obvious. The outfit is extremely symbolic of the
location where the film takes place. Kit himself even says at one point that he has the leather boots to
appear like more of a cowboy. Being located in the Midwest at the time makes this quite appropriate.
Holly wears multiple outfits, one of them being a yellow blouse and dress. This

The Mist Review
The apocalypse is a common subject addressed in films and such Doomsday scenarios have become
increasingly popular since the beginning of the Cold War. These films provide a different cause for the
downfall of human kind and approach the subject with various degrees of despair and hope. Despite
the obvious differences in approach that different directors take, these films all serve to highlight not
only the negative qualities of human kind that led to and are represented by the agent of destruction
but also to highlight the strength of the survivors who keep the will to fight for their lives despite the
bleak circumstances. For the most part, The Mist, adapted from a Stephen King novella, sticks closely
to the archetype. The Mist, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subtle score of Mark Isham is utilized infrequently, magnifying its effect on the particular scenes
it is present in. In one of the most suspenseful scenes, a volunteer ties a rope around his waist and
ventures into the unknown. Darabont stays fixed in the store and lets the pull on the rope tell the story,
creating great suspense. When the monsters do reveal themselves, the CGI work is seamless and
properly horrifying. The question of where they come from or why they have come is never addressed
even in the slightest. Darabont s focus is always squarely on the humans, who quickly splinter into
competing factions reflecting their own racial, class and educational prejudices. The Mist is as
misanthropic as it can get. As most good monster movies, this movie is not about the monsters. The
monsters are simply primal fears materialized. The main focus is really the human reaction to the
threat. The mist works as a fog of fear, and the store becomes a sample of most kinds of humans from
highly educated to low level working class. The fog becomes the unknown which is unknown to all
walks of life. The Mist shows human nature at it worst in a crisis. Xenophobia of the out of towners ,
disbelief, lack of faith, egotism, paranoia, fundamentalism, bias, an us versus them

George Washington University History Course Analysis
My Freshman year of college, I was a mechanical engineering student at the George Washington
University. It was there that I learned how difficult school could really be. My past schooling
experience had not prepared me for this extremely rigorous program. As one of my requirements for
the program was a social science, I had registered for a history course my first semester. Unknowingly,
I had registered for a third year history class, clearly not the correct class for a freshman engineering
student. I went on to struggle with the amount of work that was assigned for the course including an
18 page research paper. This course, on top of the difficult engineering curricula was extremely
challenging. At this point, I also realized that although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am particularly interested in attending Rutgers because it has a rich history of educating students in
the field of Environmental Science. In addition, the Center for Environmental Prediction is an
organization that shares my concern and commitment to the environment. I am hoping to become
involved with the CEP and conduct research and lobbying in conjunction with them. I am also
attracted to Rutgers because it has the best of both worlds from a campus standpoint. I can enjoy the
more rural Cook/Douglass campuses and truly experience nature at places like the Bamboo garden
and the log cabin hiking trails. Yet, just a bus ride away is the hustle and bustle of George Street and
the College Avenue campus. I believe that by attending Rutgers, I can learn in a professional,
experienced environment with access to knowledgeable faculty and leading edge technology and
research. More importantly, I believe that the Rutgers Curriculum can allow me to develop the skillset
I need to actually make a difference. Classes on solar energy and environmental tax policy serve as the
environmentalist s weapons in the fight for our planet. I want to use Rutgers as a resource to help not
only myself, but the entire planet. When I think about the term world changing , I think free clean
energy for a nation, zero dependence on fossil fuels, and stopping the extinction of several keystone
species. The world is in a delicate balance now more than ever. With the geopolitical scale shifting the
way it is, environmentalists will face the greatest challenge yet to protect and preserve. Now it is my
time to step up and do my part, all I need are those willing to teach me

A Brief Note On The And The Legacy Of The Crusades
SOLDIERS OF THE CROSS: THE LEGACY OF THE CRUSADES
William Q. McCardle
Liberty University Online
CHHI 301 B05
October 6, 2014
On a late November day, in the year 1095, the leader of the Holy Roman Catholic Church delivered a
sermon that would forever change the face of Europe. Pope Urban II roused those in attendance at the
Council of Clermont to take up arms and fight for a noble and just cause. I, or rather the Lord, beseech
you as Christ s heralds to publish this everywhere and to pers¬e all people of whatever rank, foot
soldiers and knights, poor and rich, to carry aid promptly to those Christians and to destroy that vile
race from the lands of our friends. I say this to those who are present, it is meant also for those who
are absent. Moreover, Christ commands it . When Pope Urban had said these ... things in his urbane
discourse, he so influenced to one purpose the desires of all who were present, that they cried out It is
the will of God! It is the will of God! . When the venerable Roman pontiff heard that, [he] said: Most
beloved brethren, today is manifest in you what the Lord says in the Gospel, Where two or three are
gathered together in my name there am I in the midst of them. Unless the Lord God had been present
in your spirits, all of you would not have uttered the same cry. For, although the cry issued from
numerous mouths, yet the origin of the cry was one. Therefore I say to you that God, who implanted
this in your

  • 3. The Importance Of Carbohydrates When considering the way that our bodies gain energy to perform any task, the first thing that should come to mind is carbohydrates. They are one of the main nutrients where we get our energy from, and are defined as a compound made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, that is derived from plants and provide energy (Thompson Manore, 2017, p. 100). Carbohydrates are divided up into two groups: simple and complex carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates are commonly called sugar (Thompson Manore, 2017, p. 101). Simple carbohydrates are found in a variety of foods such as fruits, vegetables, milk, and milk products where natural sugars are found. Within this subgroup there are monosaccharides and disaccharides. Monosaccharides are essentially one molecule of sugar, and happen to be the simplest type of carb that is usually in the form of glucose. Glucose, fructose, and galactose are referred to as monosaccharides. Disaccharides are a carb compound consisting of two sugar molecules that are joined together (Thompson Manore, 2017, p. 101). Lactose, maltose, and sucrose are referred to as disaccharides. Complex carbohydrates are a nutrient compound consisting of long chains of glucose molecules (Thompson Manore, 2017, p. 102). Complex carbs are found in foods that have whole grains, starchy vegetables, and legumes. • 4. Chronic Neuropathic Pain After Spinal Cord Injury Chronic Neuropathic Pain after Spinal Cord Injury: Spinal cord injury (SCI) affects up to 500,000 people every year around the world (Singh et al., 2014) with devastating physical, psychological and social consequences. SCI not only damages motor systems, it also directly affects sensory systems, causing chronic, debilitating neuropathic pain. The incidence of neuropathic pain after SCI is extremely high, with at least half and up to 90% of SCI individuals experiencing neuropathic pain, described as paroxysmal pain that can be continuous and may be evoked by any sensory stimulus, not necessarily painful. Current pharmacological interventions offer minimal, transient relief to a minority (30%) of sufferers of SCI induced neuropathic pain (Cousins, 2012). Current treatment strategies utilize conventional drugs for chronic pain, which only address pain symptomatically and cannot provide lasting relief or prevent relapse of symptoms, leading to drug dependency and further reducing quality of life for SCI patients. Due to the myriad events that take place after SCI, delineating the causes of neuropathic pain development is difficult. Neuropathic pain in general, and more so in SCI, has an inherent degeneracy in mechanisms, which is likely why targeted pharmacological treatment approaches often fail to provide significant relief. Chronic neuropathic pain after SCI is a central pain syndrome, by definition arising directly due to damage to or dysfunction of the CNS. While SCIs are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Air Superiority Case Study Defense campaigns and establishment of air superiority by the Allies played a key role in changing the course of the European theater of World War II. In North Africa, the RAF bombed and defeated German commander Erwin Rommel and prevented him from reaching the vital Suez Canal, which would have gave the Germans access to the Indian Ocean. British aircraft fired their rockets, attacking German artillery and enemy transports. A German Panzer Commander described the failure of his counterattack against aircraft and said, ...they [the Spitfires, Typhoons, and Mustangs] came in hundreds, firing their rockets at the concentrated tanks and vehicles. It was later determined that no Allied strategy in Europe was feasible until the U boats were destroyed. Allied forces then looked to the RAF as a possible contender to defeat the submarines that were terrorizing the Western European coasts. Soon, airpower emerged as the most effective weapon against the deceptive U boats. The United States Air Force allocated several B 24 Liberators, heavy bombers that were retrofitted with radar and depth charges, to the RAF Coastal Command, which patrolled the waters for German submarines. In the Battle of the Atlantic in 1943, these aircraft of the RAF coastal command destroyed many U boats out of the water and forced Germany to withdraw their submarines from the lanes in the Atlantic, allowing ships transporting supplies to Allied countries to travel the oceans and coasts with little resistance. Admiral Karl Dönitz of the Kriegsmarine, the Nazi Naval Branch, realized how much the Allied aircraft were harrying his U boats and he stated after the war how this was the decisive factor that won the Battle of the ... Persuasion works both ways regarding the need to satisfy the subject being persuaded and the persuader. Propaganda is an example of how tactics such as persuasion and communication are used in the propagandistic form of communication. Because both of these devices are used in communication, we can categorize propaganda as an extremely relevant form of communication. Propaganda, made simple, is the manipulation and management of the opinion of the public. It is typically brought about through media that is able to reach a very large audience, and successfully persuade them to form their opinion for or not in favor of a particular ... Although there are many examples or propaganda being used negatively, there are also more sublte forms of propaganda that achieve the goal of persuasion and gratify the desires of the propagandist without lies. White and black propaganda is another element of propaganda that are important when discussing it. White propaganda is not viewed at harshly as black propaganda. Snow Goose Overpopulation The Overpopulation of the Snow Goose in North America Abstract The purpose of this paper is to explore available research on the overpopulation of the Snow Goose on the North American continent. Wildlife managers have just recently begun to implement strategies to combat this problem. Mainly through the use of hunters the managers are trying to curb the population growth. The LSGO and ROGO starting in the middle of the 60 s and continually have extended their nesting range south into less extreme climate (Abraham and Jeffries 1998). It has also been suggested that since birds are now living longer the older adults are now leading the less wary young to safer sites and out of hunter s range (Ingstrup 1998). Ingstrup also suggests that the artic may be warming and as Abraham and Jeffries cited there has been shown a correlation between the snow melt and survival of nesting birds and their young. According to Hodge the annual kill by hunters in 1970 neared 40% but in 1994 the rate had dropped to less than 8%. Thus allowing a great deal of the adult population to return to nesting sites in the spring. Impact on habitat The snow geese still nest in a primarily salt marsh environment. The geese have a detrimental feeding behavior in which they pull up the marsh grass by the roots. The poems There Will Come Soft Rains by Sara Teasdale and Meeting at Night by Robert Browning both share connections. These poems are both about nature; however, they are also connected through personification, tone, alliteration. Alliteration is one of the most significant ways they are connected. Alliteration can be described as the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words. The speaker of the poem There Will Come Soft Rains begins by saying, There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground / And swallows circling with their shimmering sound, (Teasdale 1 2). I got a different reaction from them, they thought that sainsburys operated in more of an autocratic management style, whereby managers tell people what to do instead of asking for their opinions. This is interesting to look at, the managers believe that employees are responsible to make their own decisions and employees believe that mangers order them to do things. I also think that in some situation sainsburys use other styles. For example if an employee is underachieving and not contributing as much s he or she should, it is not other employees who have to make the decision on if the guilty employee is worth keeping in the business or not. That decision will be down to the manager. There are several managers spreading up the hierarchy. The majority of the population consisted of students most likely ranging from eighteen years old to twenty four years old. This time of day seemed to be particularly busy, and from where I was sitting I observed human behavior as they interacted within the space. The room itself had an ordering area, an area to gather while waiting for your drink, and then multiple seating arrangements, such as booths, high tables, large tables, and small tables. Even with all the furniture the space had little obstructions, making it easy to oversee activity. People s interaction with others depended greatly on whether or not they were with other people. If someone was alone they did not sit at a table that had four or more chairs, instead they would opt for a table that was made for two people. Pairs of people meeting each other at the location hugged, but when saying goodbye, they simply walked away, not stopping to give a farewell. Groups tended to consist of younger students, while individuals were more likely to be older students. While waiting to order their drink groups would talk loudly, but upon sitting each individual would pull out something to occupy them and all talking ceased. The talking amongst others in line gained the attention of people sitting down, especially those that were sitting alone. If a group looked up at people talking in line there ... Shakespeare s Sister Virginia Woolf in the chapter Shakespeare s Sister from A Room of One s Own states that women in the 19th and 20th century did not have the same privileges and opportunities that men got in their lifetime, thus not being able to explore their passions of writing and art, rather being the slave of any boy whose parents forced a ring upon her finger (694). She uses this to argue why women are seen as inferior to men and that if women had had the same freedoms to live life contrary to what society insists, they would be able to write like Shakespeare and have an equal playing field to men. One of Woolf s main points in her essay is that women did not get the same opportunities as men and were discouraged by society to write, act, and make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Woolf states: Because the mind of an artist, in order to achieve the prodigious effort of freeing whole and entire the work that is in him, must be incandescent, like Shakespeare s mind, (703). By this she means that men had the freedom to write, they did not have society discouraging them, or putting roadblocks in their way. Women could not think for themselves because society was constantly telling them what they should do and who they should marry, and encouraging them to be mothers, rather than leaders. Having to live up to society s expectations certainly did not let women have an incandescent mind. Woolf also states: The world did not say to her as it said to them, Write if you choose; it makes no difference to me. The world said with a guffaw, Write? What s the good of your writing (701). This lack of encouragement for women made it difficult for them to achieve their dreams and be able to showcase their talents to the world. This false notion of men being intellectually superior to women was a widely accepted idea in the 19th century. Woolf explains, there was an enormous body of masculine opinion to the effect that nothing could be expected of women intellectually (702). By this, one could infer that women were only seen for their beauty, and as wives. This objectification of women is seen in society today through media s portrayal of women, and through many cultural norms of women being expected to stay at home and ... However, old art pieces created centuries ago are starting to fall apart. Scientific studies are being conducted on each piece of art trying to figure out how exactly the artist created these masterpieces, and to possibly find a way to stop them from withering away, and to keep them around for many more centuries to come and so many more generations of people can see. Science has some part in everything, even art. • 29. Sociocultural Food Taboos Under The Larger Umbrella... Preface In this paper, I aim to document various sociocultural food taboos under the larger umbrella concept of the sacred and profane, a sociologically ubiquitous dichotomy found worldwide. I will do so by introducing various cultural examples of food taboos and explanative theories of food avoidance practices. Ideally, this paper will introduce the reader with the complex social pre and proscriptions of the sacred and profane and the affect of which on food consumption practices. Food taboo is present in all societies in one form or another. The extent of food taboos vary between cultures and societies, yet restriction of food resources is ever present in all social systems, even when the taboo goes unnoticed or is accepted under the guise of normative behavior of a particular social group. Supporting this point is the simple comparison of all available food resources to consumed food resources. In no society is the complete available food resources used as food, or perceived as fit for consumption. The food perceived as fit for consumption is considered sacred, nourishing, and healthy, while food resources considered unfit are those tethered to concepts of the profane, unclean, and unhealthy, which ultimately harm the physical and spiritual body. Food taboo acts as a method to ensure or regain both spiritual and physical health and is ubiquitously concerned with the maintenance of wellbeing. Animistic societies are imbedded in a universe of spirits, which when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Adults worldwide consume countless cans of beers, wine, vodkas, and other alcohol beverages. However, its luring quality has been secretly shared to minors, resulting to a problem called Underage Drinking. This situation has existed for quite some time. In the past, underage drinking was considered a miniscule crime, and wasn t strictly restrained or monitored. As a result, we must greatly reduce the number of commercials referring to alcohol products, to minimize the possibility to create future drinkers under the legal age. Education is another great way to prevent the number of teenage alcoholics from rising any further. Vera Lynn s music apparently meant something special to him; still, his religious conditioning did not permit him to regard Vera Lynn s 1940 s swing style of music as a musical idiom he or his contemporaries could relate to in Anglican worship. • 39. The Market Theory, Meaning, And Market DFA has had a very consistent strategy since its inception in 1987. They use academic research as the backbone of their decisions. At the heart of their strategy is the efficient market theory, meaning that in liquid markets, prices reflect all available information. This is contrary to most mutual funds that attempt to continually beat the market. Instead DFA looks to academic research to invest in asset classes that historically produced higher expected returns and structure their holdings around those classes. This enables them to stay passive but add alpha over index funds. Other sources of alpha are contributed by block trading and buying in bulk at a discounted price, and finally by constructing products for niche tax advantages. Ultimately DFA is not looking to profit by exposing arbitrage in the market but instead building strategies under the assumption of fair pricing allowing them to focus their attention on investments that compensate investors for taking. Under these assumptions, the market risks come at a premium which may allow for higher expected returns. They put a strong weight on academic research and results from practicing investors that show robust long term strategies. The research behind their beliefs show that small companies have higher expected returns than large companies, high B/M value companies have higher expected returns than low B/M growth companies, and finally companies with high profitability have higher expected returns than ... This load is applied more than 80 millimeters from the normal undeflected position of the flexible barrier. Also, the standards state that fixed guardrails can be replaced by retractable guardrails or handrails or handholds to make transporting from jobsite to jobsite easier (Standardization, 2011). These standards give the team a specific set of dimension and load constraints for the design of a new guardrail. Effects Of The Battle Of Waterloo The Battle of Waterloo and its Effect on Today s Artillery Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the world s greatest military strategists, led the French at the Battle of Waterloo. During his time as a General, even in defeat, his tactics in the way he used artillery were beyond reproach. His successes and errors made throughout the Battle of Waterloo had a direct effect on how we use artillery today. The Battle of Waterloo, which took place on 18 June 1815, was the final battle of the Napoleonic wars and ended Napoleon s reign as emperor. The French marched into Belgium with 70,000 troops and 256 artillery pieces (Stevenson, n.d.). They were met by the British Army led by, the Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesly. Combined with its allies (Germans, Belgians, Dutch, and Prussians), the British Army consisted of 67,000 troops and 156 artillery pieces. Napoleon s greatest strength was the use of artillery, but with the heavy rain preceding the battle, he worried that the muddy battlefield would restrict his artillery from advancing. This led to a fatal miscalculation he decides not to attack until midday, in an attempt to allow the battlefield to dry. The delay, would allow Marshal Blucher s Prussian Army enough time to join the fight. Napoleon starts the battle by bringing up 74 artillery pieces and begins bombarding the British with canon fire. Both of these films have been deemed culturally significant by the Library of Congress and have been inducted in 1993 and 2007 respectively. The basis of this paper is to take these two movies and shed some light behind their creator s process. The justification for this analysis is to prove with examples that Terrence Malick is an example of an auteur. Through the use of mise en scene, sound, and editing it can be seen that the two films in question are decidedly of a certain style that is unique to Terrence. Beginning with the mise en scene components incorporated in Badlands, it is shown throughout that Terrence Malick really enjoys nice natural light for the majority of his shots. Of course this goes hand in hand with the majority of the film taking place either outdoors, or inside of a car. Whether it be inside or out the sun does most of the job in that department. Now, dissecting the components behind the wardrobes, Kit s denim jacket and jeans really define him. The reason why Terrence made that choice for what he wore is obvious. The outfit is extremely symbolic of the location where the film takes place. Kit himself even says at one point that he has the leather boots to appear like more of a cowboy.
