Antonio Octavian-Personal Narrative
97 years ago, our entire world was separated by a war that lasted for what felt like eons, but today, the
world has reunited, all in friendly rivalry, for the greatest sport of all time and its first annual
competition, the International Rocket League Championships! The crowd roared in delight, as
everyone was about to see the greatest world achievement in almost 100 years; being reunited by a
sport older than dirt, yet it all seemed like a new beginning, which for Antonio Octavian, it was. 13
years before Today was a pretty decent day for Antonio. It had been an okay day at school, mostly
because he got out early because of a gas leak in the kitchen. He spent the rest of daylight out in the
North West part of town, mostly because it was really quiet and mostly abandoned. 2 days ago, he
found a nice house covered by lots of vines and overgrown bushes, a lot like a jungle so he decided to
call it the Jungle House . Inside it was really nice, still mostly furnished and sealed well enough that
almost no animals got inside except for a little mouse. He left it alone, so that it would think he
wouldn t hurt him so if he would ever decide to come back it wouldn t attack him with his family. The
last time he came here was when he originally found it. He didn t have too much time then, so he only

In his hands he had the equivalent to a 3 story house in a good neighborhood, but he was really wary
about selling them immediately. There was sort of a gut feeling that told him Don t tell anything about
this until you know what you can do . And that s exactly what he did, which eventually all lead to the
greatest thing his generation had: Rocket League; Not just the sport of the human race, but the leading
force of world peace. And that s how it all started 1 simple discovery. And 1 gut

Traveller s can make a choice of taking a full safari package or consider renting a 4X4 and going on a

Teenagers And The Struggle For Identity Analysis
Everyone is unique in their own way. People and the environment can change who they to find out
who they are. Identity describes one s various aspects of themselves. It takes the time to find out who
they are. People and the environment can affect one s identity with struggles to overcome.
Determination defines one s identity by setting a pathway to follow because it shows how one s
dreams are achievable.
From the times that identity is unclear, determination defines one s decision because it can show one s
integrity to pursue their dream. In the book, Modern Mythologies by Surya Kundu, she tells a story
and how it plays in her personal life. Kundu is an Indian descent and who is raised in California. She
later goes to college on the east ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article, Teenagers and the Struggle For Identity by Seth Mullins, he describes the possible
changes in a teen s identity. During the teen years, teens need to figure out who they want to be before
going to college. When teens compare with someone else, Mullins states that kids can feel a strong
urge to check their own progress alongside that of another or to gravitate to people who, for all
outward appearances, seem to have it all figured out (Mullins, Teenagers and the Struggle For Identity
). People can encourage someone to change their identity. One person could dream to be their idol and
they assume that their personality suits them. With people s encouragement, their dream before may
change, but they are alike like somebody else. Even though people can encourage others to achieve
one s dream, determination is the guide that sets the dream. In the song, Hall of Fame by The Script
featuring will.i.am, it provides a catchy tune that relates to the lyrics. The lyrics provide a meaning
and incorporates into the background. Hall of Fame is a song that provides the confidence to help
determination. Before the chorus, they sing You can be a master/ Don t wait for luck/ Dedicate
yourself and you gonna find yourself (The Script, 11 13). By applying determination to become a
master, a person can dedicate themselves and is

For the Years 1880-1925, Analyze Both the Tensions...
Immigration in the United States is a complex demographic activity that has been a major contribution
to population growth and cultural change throughout much of the nation s history. The many aspects
of immigration have controversy in economic benefits, jobs for non immigrants, settlement patterns,
crime, and even voting behavior. Congress has passed many laws that have to do with immigrants
especially in the 19th century such as the Naturalization Act of 1870, and the Chinese Exclusion Act
in 1882, or even the Immigration Act of 1903 all to insure specific laws and boundaries set on
immigrants. The life of immigrants has been drastically changed throughout the years of 1880 1925

And demanding no oppressive taxes, and no tyrants; an economy where the immigrants are allowed to
just come over to America and gain a job not problem. The immigrants imagined a world where they
could get free education, and free land to start their life in the nation (Document A). As leaders of this
nation began to see the excessive outrage of many non immigrants, they began to do something about
the filtration process of the new immigrants coming over. Many new tests were formed in order to
secure the amount of jobs being taken by Southern and Eastern Europeans. These tests included
literacy tests, and simple health tests to test for mental illness, insanity, etc. In the end the new
filtration laws were only letting about 37% of all immigrants into the United States (Document H).
Many Americans responded well to these new laws, because they did not want insane, or illiterate, or
mentally handicapped people taking over their jobs and taking their wages. Finally, there was much
arguing about the immigrants that were allowed in, and the types of immigrants that were allowed in.
This controversy laid within the foreign policies of America and its surrounding nations. In a highly
xenophobic society, Americans were extremely racist, especially against the Japanese. For the longest
time, Japanese were not allowed in the work force of America, let alone America. The new laws that
were created did

The Silmarillion Chapter Summary
Thus Douglas Charles Kane sets forth the inspiration for his meticulous review of the origin of the text
Christopher Tolkien presented in 1977 as The Silmarillion. I confess that I myself belonged to the
second group, until the publication of The History of Middle earth volumes revealed the extent of the
evolution of the Legendarium. Christopher has presented that evolution roughly in a chronological
format, with The Book of Lost Tales containing Tolkien s earliest writings and The War of the Jewels
the latest concerning the tales of The Silmarillion. Anyone interested in following the development of
a single tale, therefore, must work through portions of multiple volumes. Kane, who calls The
Silmarillion arguably his most important work (23), set out to show how Christopher, with the
assistant of Guy Gavriel Kay, put together what has become the settled text of The Silmarillion. Kane
proceeds through The Silmarillion chapter by chapter, showing the source within The History of
Middle earth for each paragraph. [Additionally, he referred rarely to Unfinished Tales, The Children of
Húrin, and, in at least one instance, Tolkien s letters (25).] Each chapter of Kane s book contains a
table detailing his findings. For example, for Chapter 13 Of the Return of the Noldor, paragraph 1 was
taken from the later Quenya paragraph 88, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

thoughts about Elven death. Kane posits that Christopher was concerned about the book s length, but

How Professional Development ( Cpd ) Is Defined As The...
Continuing professional development (CPD) is defined as the maintenance and enhancement of the
knowledge, expertise and competence of professionals throughout their careers according to a plan
formulated with regard to the need of the professional, the employer, the profession and society
(Madden and Mitchell, 1993). CPD is a way which can help people improve their professional
knowledge, make their professional knowledge up to date so that they are equipped and full of
competitiveness, and offer them security in career. In addition, CPD is a flexible process, whenever
you find something beneficial to your career but you do not know it before, then you can learn it and
improve your professional skill.
Honey and Mumford developed a very famous learning styles, and there are four learning styles, they
are activist, theorist, pragmatist, and reflector (Mumford, 1991). After answering 80 questions in the
questionnaire, I found I am a reflector. Richard (2003) indicated that reflector means a person prefer to
learn things alone and mostly reflector tends to watch from the sidelines, view things from many other
aspects, and collect a large amount of information then to observe and analyze them and draw a
conclusion at last. Therefore, studying alone is a better way for me compared with studying in a
group, for the reason that I need more time when I draw a conclusion and this can be more accurate
than roughly conclude.

Literary Analysis Essay Persepolis
Everyone has their own opinions and ideas of right and wrong. This can and, most often, will cause
conflict as people from opposing sides disagree. Persepolis, a graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi, tells
of her troubling tween years, where she lived through the Iranian Revolution. During this time, fun
was banned, boys were constantly being sent to their deaths, and danger of being caught was always
afoot. This leads to Marji s parents sending her away to live with a friend in Austria. In this book,
Satrapi describes the Iranian Revolution through her childhood point of view in order to illustrate that
people will push for change in times of conflict, but since there is rarely distinct right and wrong sides,
change can worsen the problem. There are many examples of this throughout the book. One example
is on page 39, where Marji, the young Satrapi, and the maid, Mehri, get slapped by Marji s mother, for
going to a demonstration even though they were told not to. Marji and Mehri thought they were doing
the right thing by demonstrating for something they believed in, but Marji s mother felt the opposite
way. Though the two girls intentions were good, they could have been killed, as the day they decided

school rules to wear jewelry. Going against the schools rules is usually considered a bad thing to do,
but in this case it could be considered an acceptable thing to do because of the situation. Surely the
school could have understood that Marji was in mourning for her dead friend and could have made an
exception. Instead, she was pushed to hitting her teacher which got her

facilities. It is one of the top, most problematic nosocomial infections currently being seen, and

Healthcare Associated, and is continuing to grow substantially in number. With Community
Associated Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA MRSA) on the rise in the United States,

Outpatient frequency of CA MRSA continues to increase, and it is believed that this is a huge factor in
not replacing, but adding to the increase in HA MRSA. (3) CA MRSA is easily spread among young,
healthy individuals predominantly by skin to skin contact, and in places where close contact or
overcrowding of people is common. This we know includes many areas of our society thus leading to
the cause of why it affects the healthier people in our communities. Because of the strain of CA
MRSA and its virulence factors, scientists are trying to research better ways to battle this gram
negative bacterium. Unfortunately, the funding is not usually there. Awareness and prevention are the
keys to stopping CA MRSA from spreading not only among individuals in the community, but also
being transmitted into the hospitals already battling MRSA. Proper hand hygiene is number one in
prevention, and should be taken seriously by everyone, not just healthcare workers. If we want to
battle this growing endemic disease, we must all do our part and make others aware. Since it targets
mainly the healthy younger individuals in and around our communities, and across the nation, we all
need to be a part of the solution not just the healthcare

The Dramatic Significance of Act 3 Scene 4 of The Banquet...
The Dramatic Significance of Act 3 Scene 4 of The Banquet Scene of William Shakespeare s Macbeth
Throughout this scene we can see that both versions have been created to show the best interpretation
of the play Macbeth. Polanski s version is more realistic but I feel that it does not show the play in the
way in which Shakespeare had intended as this version was created by a film producer who had added
extra scenes and changed lines for some of the characters. He also used special effects which made the
play more of a viewing pleasure and helped create the realistic effect. The BBC version is less realistic
as it was a low budget production and was stage produced. In this production there where no ... Show

In Polanski s film, there is much more artistic license because the film isn t faced with the restrictions
that a stage production is. As such, the banquet hall is well lit and the hall is filled with guests and
slaves. Also there is bear bating in a characterisation of line 100, Approach thou like the rugged
Russian bear . This is proof of the greater artistic license that Polanski s version has, as they can even
have live animals on set. A close up of Macbeth is used at this point showing him enjoying the scene,
and this portrays the savagery of the human world. Macbeth is characterised as weaker than in the
BBC version, and the actor is younger.
Almost immediately the first murderer appears and starts to inform Macbeth of the murder they have
committed on his behalf, in the privacy of an empty hall. The murderer tells Macbeth about how they
(the murderers), dispatch d , Banquo, but how his son Fleance escaped their grasp. Macbeth is
unhappy at this news ( I had else been perfect; whole as marble, founded as the rock ), but
nevertheless he is pleased that Banquo is dead. The murderer departs as Lady Macbeth enters the hall
with the promise from Macbeth of, to morrow, we ll hear ourselves again . In Polanski s version the
murderers are killed by Macbeth s men and their blood soaked carcasses are dragged through the

The Rhodes Must Fall Movement
This essay will attempt to give a response of the Rhodes Must Fall writings. It is clear that the rising
of movements like Rhodes Must Fall, has been a result of a wave of philosophies of Fanon and Biko
who share a highly similar pedigree in their interests in the philosophical psychology of consciousness
and desire for a decolonising of the mind (). Their ideologies have the interest of young South
Africans. The essay will be done by looking into how the movement wants the university to be
decolonised, the statue of Rhodes, alienation the students are experiencing, curriculum change, the
university s lack of cultural space and representation of blacks, racism in the university and
social/systematic exclusion of black students. In order to understand what the movement wants to
achieve, it is relevant to provide a background of its insurgence. The Rhodes Must Fall Movement is a
collective movement of students and staff members mobilizing for direct action against the reality of
institutional racism at the University of Cape Town (The Johannesburg Salon, 2015:6) .The movement
aims to advance black students interests by ending the oppression they experience in the university
and achieving equality. It is a shame that the University of Cape Town, just like other parts of the

The Opera Rigoletto At The Metropolitan Opera
The opera Rigoletto at the Metropolitan Opera was conducted by Pablo Heras Casado. The three
principal singers were Piotr Beczala as the Duke, Zeljko Lucic as Rigoletto and Olga Peretyatko as
Gilda. This being my first opera, I was surprised by how large and grandiose the house was, which is
in sharp contrast to my typical experience when I see musicals. The production decided to place a
modern twist on the setting of the opera, rather than the original setting of 16th century Italy, the story
is placed in Las Vegas in the 20th century. The set is constructed to reflect that in the first act with a
casino scene complete with neon lights, card tables and roulette. In my opinion, this all seemed to
distract the viewer from the story and the change in setting didn t enhance the production itself. Rather
it made me think about how out of place this all was instead of focusing on the opera itself. The first
act was fairly difficult for me to suspend disbelief and get into the plot of the opera. This had much to
do with me being initially turned off by the casino as the setting for this opera. Although in later acts I
was able to move past the modern set that was only because this set became less pronounced in the
second and third acts.
Now moving on to the aria s the three I will be focusing on will be the Aria from the Duke La Donna e

Human Development Index ( Hdi )
After market reforms where announced in the late 1970s by Deng Xiaoping (paramount leader), China
has been among the most rapidly growing economies in the world. Although having serious natural
resource scarcity this growth has been speared headed through 80% of china s exports are
manufactured goods making china heavily dependant on international markets (export led) . The Gross
Domestic Product per capita (GDP) of china in 1962 was at record lows of 130.14 USD, since market
reforms, China regularly exceeding 10% GDP growth annually (figure 1) and was last recorded at
6416.18 US dollars in 2015 .
Gross national income (GNI) is the total income received by all households, including that earned in
foreign countries. China is ranked 113th in 2013 in the world having an $11,850PPP and although
GNI does not measure economic development it is used to measure the ability to buy goods and

Emotional Labor As A Workplace
While labor can and is often seen as work that is done physically, it is also seen as an act which
necessitates using mind and soul. Depending on the area in which an individual works, it can lean
towards using all three body, mind, and soul to be successful. It is at this point that Emotional Labor
(Hochschild, 1983) begins to take its place in the work environment. Emotional Labor is using self to
perform work where an employee creates a pleasant atmosphere by giving good customer service. The
ability to use self as a means to perform better on the job may have larger implications than we know
of. This paper will look at different ideas which contribute to Emotional Labor as a workplace

your emotional stability (J. Felix, personal communication, January 30, 2017). After having been cut
off, yelled at, and harangued, Jason had to still go about his day as if nothing happened. The use of
good customer service in the face of disrespect is reminiscent Karl Marx writes, the realization of
labor appears as a loss of reality for the worker . It is not the real person who is being polite but the
person created for the work environment that is required to be polite. With this in mind, having to
create an atmosphere of happiness when one isn t feeling happy could result in the depersonalization
of happiness with the self (Herpertz et al, 2016). The problem then turns into the employee not
knowing whether they are actually happy or is only so used to being happy. How does the employee
then adjust to the real world outside of the workplace? In A Managed Heart by Arlie Russell

A Brief Note On Causation And Remoteness Within The Common...
ASSESSMENT A: Problem Question Introduction I will advise each subsequent claimant with
regards to any actions they might have when focusing on issues of causation and remoteness within
the common law tort of negligence. Chico s case Issue Whether employers X, Y and Z are liable in

Fairchild Barker Compensation Act 2006 s.3 Application In most cases the but for test is the method
used for establishing factual causation. But for the defendant s wrongdoing, the claimant would not
have suffered damage. However, causation becomes problematic when more than one cause arises,
since the onus is upon the claimant to establish which party caused their injury or loss. The material
elements test is crucial to cases relating to mesothelioma. A claimant suffering injury must
demonstrate on the balance of probabilities that the defendant s tort caused the injury or loss. The
claimant must then demonstrate that there is more than a fifty percent likelihood of the cause being the
breach of duty of the defendant. If there are multiple causes then the burden of proof is impossible to
discharge. This has often left claimants uncompensated for an obvious breach of duty. In Fairchild the
House of Lords recognised that in situations wherein the claimant had been exposed to asbestos at
different times whilst working for different employers, it was impossible to satisfy the conventional

Importance Of Identity In Things Fall Apart
Finding Your Identity Having an identity and more importantly finding your identity is very important
when it comes to finding and achieving your purpose in life. It is very difficult to find your purpose
when you don t have a clear self identity. Merriam Webster dictionary defines identity in this context
as the distinguishing character or personality of an individual , and that perfectly represents what
Nwoye experiences in the novel Things Fall Apart when the European missionaries come to Nigeria
and start teaching the Ibo villagers about Jesus Christ and Christianity. Nwoye experiences a change in
his religious identity because the missionaries words really get through to him, and he really
understands what they are trying to teach. Identity is mentioned multiple times in Cosmopolitanism as
Kwame Anthony Appiah puts an emphasis on finding your identity and having a specific identity to be
able to help other people when they need it. Nwoye always thought that his purpose in life was to
follow the faith of his fellow villagers, but once he heard the teachings of the Christian missionaries
he realized his real purpose, and his religious identity, was to spread the word of Jesus Christ. Things
Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a book set in a small Nigerian village, an Ibo village, and centers
around the life of Okonkwo as he goes through life in the village, from when he was a boy to his
eventual death. Okonkwo is very hot headed and he gets into trouble because of his

John Mccain s Essay A Cause Greater Than Self
The dream of becoming an American has been sought out by people from all regions around the world
for over 200 years. Its enticing promise of freedom and equality to all citizens has contrived the
American dream, which inspires images of homes, well fed children, employment, and the pursuit of
happiness. Unfortunately, these aspirations are not always realized, because citizens do not live
accordingly to obtain these promises. To be able to enjoy these things for themselves and extend this
dream to the lives of others, they must see past being merely a citizen and strive to become a true
American. I feel that three standards capable of defining a true American are: genuine patriotism,
belief in equality, and the satisfaction of self improvement. In the essay, A Cause Greater Than Self ,
John McCain expresses his strong views on the definition of patriotism. He states Patriotism is a love
and a duty, a love of country expresses in good citizenship. In order to show love for their country one
must participate actively in communities and the government as good citizens. Idle hands and feckless
verbiage only stunt our growth as a Nation, and allow its standards to fail in misled and unchecked
government policies. Small everyday community actions made by all ... Show more content on

Midrash Definition
The Halakhah Judaism is not only a set of beliefs about God, the universe and man, but Judaism is a
comprehensive way of life. In Judaism there are rules and practices outlined for almost all day to day
activities and the manner in which Judaism believers must conduct themselves. These set of rules and
practices in Judaism are known as the Halakhah, which translated means to walk (Efron pg. 144).
However, in order for the Halakhah to emerge rabbis had to study the Torah and develop their own
ways of interpreting the Hebrew Bible known as midrash. Midrash is derived from a Hebrew root
meaning to seek or to investigate, midrash however is not an easy term to define (Efron pg 143). The
Midrash refers to a collection of rabbinic interpretations of the Bible and it also describes the approach
of interpretation reproduced in these collections. As the Midrash was created there became two
different forms rabbinic expression, which became known as the Halakah and Aggadah. ... Show more

By the time of the Babylonian Talmud, rabbinic sages had come to believe that the Torah revealed to
Moses had two forms, the written Torah and an oral Torah transmitted by the Sages (Efron et al. pg.

includes; legal debates, rulings, biblical interpretations, wise sayings of the sort collected in Pirkei
Avot and stories of the rabbis own exploits. The written Torah on the other hand consists of the five
books of Moses God gave to the Jews at Mt. Sinai. However, the rabbis felt that the oral Torah was
necessary, because from their perspective, the written Torah was insufficient by itself the rabbis

Criminal Justice Criminology Essay
Criminal Justice Theorists attempted to find out a plausible scientific explanation to crime and
criminal behavior of individuals. At the same time, criminology emerged under the impact of other
sciences, such as psychology or sociology, for example. As a result, often criminology theories are
often intertwined with psychological or sociological concepts and theories as well as concepts and
theories from other sciences. The study of key works of criminology theorists can help to understand
better criminology, crime, criminal behavior and causes of crime. In this regard, it is possible the
distinct and persisting debate concerning causes of crimes and explanation of criminal behavior, which
is based on nature nurture debate, where internal factors, especially heredity, confront environmental,
external factors, such as social environment, economic position or social class of individuals, which

policing and police community relationships. Cases of police violence become more and more

problem is essential but the resolution of the problem is possible only on the condition of the
elimination of its causes. In this regard, causes of police violence are diverse and this problem may be
driven by different factors, such as social biases and prejudices, the different social class background
of police officers and their victims, and other factors, which basically prove that police violence is
caused by environmental factors and its resolution requires not only changes in policies but also in

The Sin Of Ham Recorded Essay
The sin of Ham recorded in Genesis 9:20 24 has different views including voyeurism, castration, and
paternal incest. Scholars Bergsma and Hahn have come up with the maternal incest view from their
study of specific words related to the account. The first part of this paper will focus on Bergsma and
Hahn s word study to indicate that their maternal incest view is a viable option. The second part of the
paper will focus on the word bara (to create) in the Hebrew Bible. This word will be examined to
articulate the different usages and meanings of the word. Therefore, this paper will focus on the
importance of word study to show that words are of critical importance in understanding the meaning
of the Hebrew Bible in specific contexts.
Genesis 9:20 24 Ham s Sin There are different views concerning Ham s sin recorded in Genesis 9:20
24. The traditional views include voyeurism, castration, and paternal incest. Bergsma and Hahn have
introduced another view known as the maternal incest view. Bergsma and Hahn have made a
persuasive argument that states Ham s sin was not incest with his father, but that he had sexual
incestual relations with his mother. This conclusion has been made from the idiomatic meaning of the
phrase ‫האר‬ ‫תורע‬ ‫בא‬ to see the father s nakedness (v. 22). The paternal incest view equates Leviticus
20:17, to uncover nakedness as a euphemism for sexual intercourse. The conclusion is then drawn that
Ham s sin of seeing his father s nakedness must mean he had

The Hindu Religion Essay
Sacraments
Samskaras are an important element in the belief and practice of the Hindu religion. The word
samskar is evolved from the root samskri which means to purify or form thoroughly. Samskriti –
meaning civilization and Sanskrit are derived from the root samskri . Samskrit was considered the
most refined and grammatically perfect language compared to other regional languages in ancient
times. The best rendering of samskara in English is made by the word sacrament, meaning religious
ceremony or act regarded as an outward and visible sign of inward and spiritual grace. Sacrament also
means confirmation of some promise or oath; things of mysterious significance, sacred influence and
symbol. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The general idea of the samskaras is that their practice surrenders the human soul to the service of
god.
Atri writes, By birth every one is a shudra, by samskars he becomes a Dvija (twice born). By learning,
he becomes a Vipra and by realizing Brahman, he attains the status of a Brahmana.
Symbolism has a significant role in the performance of samskaras, as it does in the entirety of the
Hindu religion. Both materialistic and action based symbols are abundantly obvious in each samskara,
and too numerous to mention. Examples include the use of Audumbar branches, or fig branches,
which stand for prosperity. The vatu (student) at upanayana and the bride at a wedding instructed to
stand on a rock signifying stability and firmness. Touching of the heart in upanayana between teacher
and student and in marriage between bride and groom, indicates residence of God and virtues of love
and harmony. Mass of rice indicates abundance and prosperity. Eating together means fusion of hearts,
grasping the hand (panigrahana) indicates assumption of responsibilities.
The standard sixteen samskars laid down by Hindu religious texts are:

Biography of Sylvia Plath
As one of the most multitalented writers of the twentieth century, Sylvia Plath was highly esteemed by
fans and fellow writers alike. Sylvia Plath s parents, Aurelia Schober and Otto Plath, had met when
Aurelia became Otto s student at Boston University. Otto was a biology professor with an infatuation
with bees; he had even published a book titled Bumblebees and their ways. Otto and Aurelia married
in January of 1932, and by October of the same year Aurelia gave birth in Jamaica Plain,
Massachusetts to a daughter, Sylvia.
Sylvia spent her childhood in Winthrop, but after Plath s father died of diabetes, her mother moved her

Plat found an apartment in London fairly quickly. Plath took the children with her to London, where
she balanced her career with her family. Plath would work on her Ariel poems before the children

have to deal with freezing temperatures, and nonfunctional electricity and heating. On top of no heat
and power, Plath had to wait for a telephone that never got installed (Ames 211 215).
Plath s only book, The Bell Jar, revolves around Esther Greenwood, a typical teenage girl aspiring to
be an English teacher. The plot, however, is atypical; instead of Greenwood coming of age with
normal, positive scenarios, Greenwood descends into madness and graduates not from college, but
from a mental institution. Greenwood reactions to daily life differ from normal girls her age. She
becomes obsessed with oddities like pickled fetuses, dead bodies, and the execution of the
Rosenburgs.
Greenwood scoffs at the notion of no premarital sex, viewing it as hypocritical of boys being able to
sleep around while girls are to remain virgins until marriage. This option is due in part by Buddy,
Greenwood s boyfriend, having sex with a coworker repeatedly over the summer while still dating
Greenwood.
Greenwood s subsequent actions cause her to be admitted to a mental institution after her

The Crusades were a series of wars over the holy lands such as Jerusalem between European
Christians and the Ottoman Empire between the 11th and 15th centuries. They fought for many
reasons such as control over religious sights, access to trade and protection of fellow christians.
According to the Christian Faith Jerusalem holds significant religious importance due to the

Jerusalem by John France Jerusalem had a special place in the religion and culture of medieval europe
for it was the place Christ had died and his empty tomb in the church of the holy sepulchre was the

A. S. Byatt s The Pink Ribbon
A. S. Byatt s story The Pink Ribbon is a story about change in a marriage as a result of a traumatic
experience, as well as how the struggle between duty and love manifests themselves. In this story, a
man doing what he thinks is his duty becomes overwhelmed with feelings of anger, fear, and
resentment after his transition from spouse to caretaker. Through seemingly imagined encounters with
a beautiful young woman, this man is reminded of his wife and what it is like to have meaningful
contact with another person that is not consumed by taking care of someone else, which causes him to
make a choice in the name of mercy, both for himself and his wife. Byatt shows the changes in James
and Madeleine s relationship through the use of diction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James believed the doll Dipsy was equivalent to Mado, so the use of the word suffocating suggests
that he thought Mado was suffocating or trapped and the only way to help her was to give her release
through death, although it also could be hinting at the method he was going to use. Byatt wrote that
every time James went outside he took huge gulping breaths, which suggests that James felt trapped
himself and might have thought that if Mado were no longer around he would be able to breathe again.
James visits from the fetch (234) ,Dido, also foreshadow Mado s death. A fetch in folklore is an omen
of death. Since Dido reminded him of his wife and what their relationship used to be like, it makes
sense that Mado s death was forthcoming. The last instance of foreshadowing is in the final paragraph
of the story, ...the Teletubbies were sitting on the end of the casket shaped cradles,... (236), which,
again, goes back to the symbol of the Teletubbies doll. The idea of the Teletubbies going to beds that
were shaped like coffins proposes a parallel to where Mado was going to spend her last moments,
which is emphasized by James telling Mado to Come to bed,...Just a rest, for a while, (236). So, are
duty and love really different things? Merriam Webster defines duty as something that is done as part
of a job; something that must be done because it is morally right, and love as a feeling of strong or
constant affection for a person. James sense

  • 2. Antonio Octavian-Personal Narrative 97 years ago, our entire world was separated by a war that lasted for what felt like eons, but today, the world has reunited, all in friendly rivalry, for the greatest sport of all time and its first annual competition, the International Rocket League Championships! The crowd roared in delight, as everyone was about to see the greatest world achievement in almost 100 years; being reunited by a sport older than dirt, yet it all seemed like a new beginning, which for Antonio Octavian, it was. 13 years before Today was a pretty decent day for Antonio. It had been an okay day at school, mostly because he got out early because of a gas leak in the kitchen. He spent the rest of daylight out in the North West part of town, mostly because it was really quiet and mostly abandoned. 2 days ago, he found a nice house covered by lots of vines and overgrown bushes, a lot like a jungle so he decided to call it the Jungle House . Inside it was really nice, still mostly furnished and sealed well enough that almost no animals got inside except for a little mouse. He left it alone, so that it would think he wouldn t hurt him so if he would ever decide to come back it wouldn t attack him with his family. The last time he came here was when he originally found it. He didn t have too much time then, so he only got to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his hands he had the equivalent to a 3 story house in a good neighborhood, but he was really wary about selling them immediately. There was sort of a gut feeling that told him Don t tell anything about this until you know what you can do . And that s exactly what he did, which eventually all lead to the greatest thing his generation had: Rocket League; Not just the sport of the human race, but the leading force of world peace. And that s how it all started 1 simple discovery. And 1 gut ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the article, Teenagers and the Struggle For Identity by Seth Mullins, he describes the possible changes in a teen s identity. During the teen years, teens need to figure out who they want to be before going to college. When teens compare with someone else, Mullins states that kids can feel a strong urge to check their own progress alongside that of another or to gravitate to people who, for all outward appearances, seem to have it all figured out (Mullins, Teenagers and the Struggle For Identity ). People can encourage someone to change their identity. One person could dream to be their idol and they assume that their personality suits them. With people s encouragement, their dream before may change, but they are alike like somebody else. Even though people can encourage others to achieve one s dream, determination is the guide that sets the dream. • 5. For the Years 1880-1925, Analyze Both the Tensions... Immigration in the United States is a complex demographic activity that has been a major contribution to population growth and cultural change throughout much of the nation s history. The many aspects of immigration have controversy in economic benefits, jobs for non immigrants, settlement patterns, crime, and even voting behavior. Congress has passed many laws that have to do with immigrants especially in the 19th century such as the Naturalization Act of 1870, and the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882, or even the Immigration Act of 1903 all to insure specific laws and boundaries set on immigrants. And demanding no oppressive taxes, and no tyrants; an economy where the immigrants are allowed to just come over to America and gain a job not problem. The immigrants imagined a world where they could get free education, and free land to start their life in the nation (Document A). As leaders of this nation began to see the excessive outrage of many non immigrants, they began to do something about the filtration process of the new immigrants coming over. Many new tests were formed in order to secure the amount of jobs being taken by Southern and Eastern Europeans. These tests included literacy tests, and simple health tests to test for mental illness, insanity, etc. In the end the new filtration laws were only letting about 37% of all immigrants into the United States (Document H). Many Americans responded well to these new laws, because they did not want insane, or illiterate, or mentally handicapped people taking over their jobs and taking their wages. Finally, there was much arguing about the immigrants that were allowed in, and the types of immigrants that were allowed in. This controversy laid within the foreign policies of America and its surrounding nations. In a highly xenophobic society, Americans were extremely racist, especially against the Japanese. • 6. The Silmarillion Chapter Summary Thus Douglas Charles Kane sets forth the inspiration for his meticulous review of the origin of the text Christopher Tolkien presented in 1977 as The Silmarillion. I confess that I myself belonged to the second group, until the publication of The History of Middle earth volumes revealed the extent of the evolution of the Legendarium. Christopher has presented that evolution roughly in a chronological format, with The Book of Lost Tales containing Tolkien s earliest writings and The War of the Jewels the latest concerning the tales of The Silmarillion. Anyone interested in following the development of a single tale, therefore, must work through portions of multiple volumes. Kane, who calls The Silmarillion arguably his most important work (23), set out to show how Christopher, with the assistant of Guy Gavriel Kay, put together what has become the settled text of The Silmarillion. Kane proceeds through The Silmarillion chapter by chapter, showing the source within The History of Middle earth for each paragraph. [Additionally, he referred rarely to Unfinished Tales, The Children of Húrin, and, in at least one instance, Tolkien s letters (25).] Each chapter of Kane s book contains a table detailing his findings. Continuing professional development (CPD) is defined as the maintenance and enhancement of the knowledge, expertise and competence of professionals throughout their careers according to a plan formulated with regard to the need of the professional, the employer, the profession and society (Madden and Mitchell, 1993). CPD is a way which can help people improve their professional knowledge, make their professional knowledge up to date so that they are equipped and full of competitiveness, and offer them security in career. In addition, CPD is a flexible process, whenever you find something beneficial to your career but you do not know it before, then you can learn it and improve your professional skill. Honey and Mumford developed a very famous learning styles, and there are four learning styles, they are activist, theorist, pragmatist, and reflector (Mumford, 1991). After answering 80 questions in the questionnaire, I found I am a reflector. Richard (2003) indicated that reflector means a person prefer to learn things alone and mostly reflector tends to watch from the sidelines, view things from many other aspects, and collect a large amount of information then to observe and analyze them and draw a conclusion at last. Therefore, studying alone is a better way for me compared with studying in a group, for the reason that I need more time when I draw a conclusion and this can be more accurate than roughly conclude. Persepolis, a graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi, tells of her troubling tween years, where she lived through the Iranian Revolution. During this time, fun was banned, boys were constantly being sent to their deaths, and danger of being caught was always afoot. This leads to Marji s parents sending her away to live with a friend in Austria. In this book, Satrapi describes the Iranian Revolution through her childhood point of view in order to illustrate that people will push for change in times of conflict, but since there is rarely distinct right and wrong sides, change can worsen the problem. There are many examples of this throughout the book. One example is on page 39, where Marji, the young Satrapi, and the maid, Mehri, get slapped by Marji s mother, for going to a demonstration even though they were told not to. This being my first opera, I was surprised by how large and grandiose the house was, which is in sharp contrast to my typical experience when I see musicals. The production decided to place a modern twist on the setting of the opera, rather than the original setting of 16th century Italy, the story is placed in Las Vegas in the 20th century. The set is constructed to reflect that in the first act with a casino scene complete with neon lights, card tables and roulette. In my opinion, this all seemed to distract the viewer from the story and the change in setting didn t enhance the production itself. Relevant Law Causation Fairchild Barker Compensation Act 2006 s.3 Application In most cases the but for test is the method used for establishing factual causation. But for the defendant s wrongdoing, the claimant would not have suffered damage. However, causation becomes problematic when more than one cause arises, since the onus is upon the claimant to establish which party caused their injury or loss. The material elements test is crucial to cases relating to mesothelioma. A claimant suffering injury must demonstrate on the balance of probabilities that the defendant s tort caused the injury or loss. The claimant must then demonstrate that there is more than a fifty percent likelihood of the cause being the breach of duty of the defendant. If there are multiple causes then the burden of proof is impossible to discharge. This has often left claimants uncompensated for an obvious breach of duty. In Fairchild the House of Lords recognised that in situations wherein the claimant had been exposed to asbestos at different times whilst working for different employers, it was impossible to satisfy the conventional but for ... Otto was a biology professor with an infatuation with bees; he had even published a book titled Bumblebees and their ways. Otto and Aurelia married in January of 1932, and by October of the same year Aurelia gave birth in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts to a daughter, Sylvia. Plath took the children with her to London, where she balanced her career with her family. Plath would work on her Ariel poems before the children would wake up in the morning. She continued to suffer from sickness, and during the day she would have to deal with freezing temperatures, and nonfunctional electricity and heating. On top of no heat and power, Plath had to wait for a telephone that never got installed (Ames 211 215). Plath s only book, The Bell Jar, revolves around Esther Greenwood, a typical teenage girl aspiring to be an English teacher. The plot, however, is atypical; instead of Greenwood coming of age with normal, positive scenarios, Greenwood descends into madness and graduates not from college, but from a mental institution. Greenwood reactions to daily life differ from normal girls her age. She becomes obsessed with oddities like pickled fetuses, dead bodies, and the execution of the Rosenburgs. Greenwood scoffs at the notion of no premarital sex, viewing it as hypocritical of boys being able to sleep around while girls are to remain virgins until marriage. This option is due in part by Buddy, Greenwood s boyfriend, having sex with a coworker repeatedly over the summer while still dating Greenwood. Greenwood s subsequent actions cause her to be admitted to a mental institution after her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. A. S. Byatt s The Pink Ribbon A. S. Byatt s story The Pink Ribbon is a story about change in a marriage as a result of a traumatic experience, as well as how the struggle between duty and love manifests themselves. In this story, a man doing what he thinks is his duty becomes overwhelmed with feelings of anger, fear, and resentment after his transition from spouse to caretaker. Through seemingly imagined encounters with a beautiful young woman, this man is reminded of his wife and what it is like to have meaningful contact with another person that is not consumed by taking care of someone else, which causes him to make a choice in the name of mercy, both for himself and his wife. Byatt shows the changes in James and Madeleine s relationship through the use of diction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... James believed the doll Dipsy was equivalent to Mado, so the use of the word suffocating suggests that he thought Mado was suffocating or trapped and the only way to help her was to give her release through death, although it also could be hinting at the method he was going to use. Byatt wrote that every time James went outside he took huge gulping breaths, which suggests that James felt trapped himself and might have thought that if Mado were no longer around he would be able to breathe again. James visits from the fetch (234) ,Dido, also foreshadow Mado s death. A fetch in folklore is an omen of death. Since Dido reminded him of his wife and what their relationship used to be like, it makes sense that Mado s death was forthcoming. The last instance of foreshadowing is in the final paragraph of the story, ...the Teletubbies were sitting on the end of the casket shaped cradles,... (236), which, again, goes back to the symbol of the Teletubbies doll. The idea of the Teletubbies going to beds that were shaped like coffins proposes a parallel to where Mado was going to spend her last moments, which is emphasized by James telling Mado to Come to bed,...Just a rest, for a while, (236). So, are duty and love really different things? Merriam Webster defines duty as something that is done as part of a job; something that must be done because it is morally right, and love as a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person.
