Celebrating the Triumph of Charlie Parker Essay
Charles Christopher Parker Jr. was born on August 29, 1920 in Kansas City, Kansas to Charles
and Addie Parker. Charlie led a lonely childhood which resulted from his parents separation in
1927 when Charlie was just 7 years old. His father was never around much following the
separation. Their house however was just a short walk from Kansas City s entertainment district
which attracted Charlie while growing up. This was to be where Charlie would find his place in
the world.
While Charlie s mother was working, he would walk around Kansas City listening to jazz behind
the clubs. Parker would sit around all night listening to his idol Lester Young perform along with
the Count Bassie band. It was here that Charlie was developing his ... Show more content on

To support himself Charlie washed dishes at a local food joint, where he met Buddy Fleet, who
was the one who tutored Charlie in playing the saxophone. Charlie would then return to Kansas
City due to the death of his father and stayed home for about a half a year while playing in a
small band there. Then in late 1939 Charlie joined back up with McShann and moved back to
Harlem, where Charlie would meet Dizzie Gillespie. Gillespie would join Charlie and would
start to work together and develop a new form of jazz. While Charlie was experimenting with a
number of different chords in a jam session he discovered a new approach to improvisation. These
new chord progressions and the ever emerging sounds of Harlem, bebop was born.
Parker would eventually need a break from New York Cityand decided to travel to California
where he would travel for a couple years. It was during this trip to the west coast that he would
get heavier in to drugs and alcohol, specifically heroin which he used as his inspiration. It was
while in Los Angeles performing that Charlie would suffer a nervous breakdown, for which he was
confined to a hospital bed. He was released in 1947 and returned to New York, where he formed a
quintet with Miles Davis and others. Parker would once again tire of New York City and head to
Europe for a couple of years, where he would encounter a lot of devoted fans and he also did
numerous recordings.

Analysis Of The Poem Nothing Gold Can Stay
The poem Nothing Gold Can Stay was written by Robert Frost in 1927. He married his wife Elinor
in 1895, though she died in 1938. He had 5 kids with her, Elliot, Carol, Irma, Marjorie, and
Elinor. Elliot and Elinor died as small children, Carol and Marjorie who died at the ages of 38 and
in the late 20s. Whereas Irma the last child suffered from mental illness.
Although Nothing Gold Can Stay is short, it is a narrative because it is telling a story.
The title of the poem, Nothing Gold Can Stay, has multiple meanings and can mean whatever you
perceive it as. It talks about Nature s renewal every spring and how it s hard for Mother Nature to
hold on to spring. Whereas during the time period he wrote the poem World War 2 was happening
and so he was talking about how he thought the world was going to end and lose everything
beautiful about it.
Although there is no steady repetition the word gold is used throughout the poem, and gold is
referring to everything beautiful in the world and how no matter what we do we can t stop time
from taking its beauty from it.
In the poem, it is talking about when spring comes and goes, or about how nothing that has
beauty can stay forever . For example, it says But only so an hour as referring to how short your
childhood can go by. So dawn goes down to day this could also mean how fast it goes by because
dawn can disappear very fast.
There is two characters, and one is Mother Nature and she is the one that is trying to get spring to
stay

What does Biosecurity have to do with Human health? Biosecurity is set to keep a close eye on
biological agents that can be used as weapons of war as well as protect humans from said agents
(Mandal 2014). Over time, biosecurity has increased in the eye of the public as good procedures
taken to ensure the safety of the human race. Biosecurity has implemented wise techniques into the
agricultural world playing a very important role in the sustenance of life for human beings.
According to WHO Biosecurity measures, it defines the difference in systems of health: animal,
human, and plant. Animal health is threatened when a pathogenic agent produces adverse
consequences on the importation ; this can be interpreted as realizing that there

The Life Of Hayao Miyazaki
The Life of Hayao Miyazaki
The Story of My Search
When we were first assigned this paper, I was stumped. My interests span throughout a broad
variety of topics, and because of this, I did not really know where to start. I have long been
intrigued by the world of Japanese animation, and recently, I happened upon a hard copy of my
favorite film from when I was a child: Howl s Moving Castle. All of the nostalgic memories I
have of watching it when I was a child flooded my mind, reminding me of how much I admire
the artwork in the movie. I began to brainstorm ideas related to this. In the end, I boiled it down to
a biography of Hayao Miyazaki (the director) and the strong themes in his movies. Combining the
two lead me to decide on addressing how his personal life influenced the persuasive themes and
symbols he conveys through his beautiful art.
My first step to approaching this challenge was to go to the library and research sources that
would be useful in completing this paper. After a few hours I had a written list of dependable
articles and websites that pertained to his movies. Unfortunately, no credible source discussed his
life. By chance, I managed to acquire a book discussing Miyazaki s art and also providing a history
of his career; however, this made my list too plentiful, so I chose the facts most relevant to my
specific topic.
The Results of My Search
Hayao Miyazaki was born in the Bunkyo ho district of Tokyo on January 5, 1941. His father,

Francis Of Assisi Summary
Francis of Assisi once stated for it is in giving that we receive. Service has played an
instrumental role in my life since a very young age. I have logged over 500 hours of volunteer
work while serving in the military. However, for this assignment, seven hours have never meant
so much to me. I have a certification as a Direct Service Advocate through the Iowa Coalition
Against Domestic Violence (ICADV); therefore, seeking meaningful service with Crisis
Intervention Services was simple. Every article we have read throughout this class proves that
service is important, but helping someone who has reached the most fearful part of their life is a
life changing experience for everyone involved. The mission of Crisis Intervention Services... Show

Tangible learning can be an excellent method of learning. Students who are able to take information
from the classroom and apply in it the field can understand the how and why things are done the
way they are. Moreover, Sax and Astin stated that service learning requires students to go out into
their field and then return to relate their experiences via writings, discussions, or class presentations
(Sax Astin, 1997). I related to Sax and Astin with their characteristics of service participants. The
authors claimed that a student who has longevity in volunteering, leadership and strong family
commitment to their community are strong candidates to volunteering. My biggest inspiration for
service comes from my father who spent 25 years as a volunteer fireman in our community. My
childhood idolization of my father corroborated the authors claim that service participates are not
to be motivated by materialistic values (Sax Astin, 1997). Ultimately, Sax and Astin stated during
college, service participants exhibit greater increases in social self confidence and leadership
ability than do nonparticipants (Sax Astin, 1997). In relation to Sax and Astin I feel I have

Kristallnacht Analysis
After the defeat in WWI and the humiliation of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany faced an
economic crash and was left under the rule of an unstable democracy. In times of desperate need,
the German people favored the Nazi party and elected their own fascist leader, Adolf Hitler. While
the Germans simply hoped for bread, work, and the restoration of German pride, they were given
much more than they bargained for. Hitler created his own cult of personality and blinded the
citizenry to his promotion of racist ideas and stereotypes, which eventually escalated into millions
of deaths across Europe, and a war that changed the world.
Although the violence on Kristallnacht is viewed as the the spark that led to the flames of the
Holocaust, one must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Germany s economy after World War I was left in shambles, to the point where people
were living off of bread and water. The FГјhrer took advantage of the people s fear and desperation
and used it to forward his agenda, presenting himself as their light in the darkness. He created a
cult of personality, not unlike those of dictators who ruled at the same time, such as Joseph
Stalin Russia and Benito Mussolini of Italy, or even Kim Jong Un of today. An image from
1938 depicts the different Badges of Shame assigned to those in concentration camps, including
Jews, homosexuals, immigrants, political enemies, and the mentally ill (Doc 7). Hitler took
advantage of symbolism, and in this case used it to categorize and divide his targets, creating a
social stigma around those who wore the stars and triangles. He further used symbolism in
establishing unity among the German population and solidifying his cult following, by making
forcing them to pledge their allegiance to him. An image from 1935 of a Nazi Rally in
Nuremberg depicts a huge crowd of young Germans doing the Nazi salute (Doc 6). With a hand
gesture stolen from the Romans, he made it his own by adding the words Heil Hitler! . In
addition to using symbolism, Hitler used the media and appointed a Minister of Propaganda to
build up a positive image. This hero worship allowed Hitler

Essay on A Progressive Movement
A Progressive Movement
Much of a historian s job is to read what their colleagues have written on their subject of interest at
the moment. Often, they then go on to write their own opinions on the subject, thereby influencing
the historians of the future. The famed historian and teacher Richard Hofstadter wrote The Age of
Reform in 1955 about the late 19th century and early 20th century movement of Progressivism. In
turn, other historians that include Paula Baker, Richard McCormick, and Peter Filene have written
their opinion on what the movement we call Progressivism really was, and what its real
significance is, or even if it really existed as a movement in its own right. Richard Hofstadter s book
The Age of Reform was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Filene defines a movement as a collectivity acting with some continuity to promote or resist a
change in the society...one can then analyze its internal characteristics along four dimensions:
program, the values which underlie this program, membership and supporters (20 21). Filene
finds the program of a social movement the most important part, for without a program the
movement will be unable to sustain itself. His most convincing point is that on so many issues,
the Progressives, supposedly a defined and cohesive movement, had numerous splits within
their group. For example, The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 created, according to Arthur Link, a
conflict between uncompromising and middle of the road progressives. The most convincing
example concerns women s suffrage, a cause that has generally been attributed to the
progressive movement. However, as Filene points out, progressive Presidents Roosevelt and
Taft were unwilling to appease feminists with suffrage, and stayed far from the idea for as long as
possible. Indeed, if a list of 400 so called progressives is carefully researched, it may be noted that
they are divided almost exactly down the center for and against a woman s right to vote (22 23). In
this way, it is clear that

Essay On The Mayan Ballgame Sacrifice
In the realm of the Classic Maya ballgame, there is much speculation based off carvings, and
there exists little concrete knowledge. Overall, the ballgame served as a religious altar where
sacrificial events took place, but various researchers find drastically different reasons for the act
of sacrifice on the ball court. Miller and Houston explain, through a materialistic and political
lens, that the Ancient Mayan ballgame served as a means for an individual, typically a captive of
war, to play for their life; it was a political gameto emphasize who was the stronger and
authoritative society. However, Freidel, Schele, and Parker, through a spiritual and idealistic lens,
see the ballgame as a ritualized reenactment of a mythological event involving the Hero Twins.
Moreover, Miller and Houston s argument, using archeological proof, is more convincing because
Freidel, Schele, and Parker s reliance on the Popol Vuh, written much later than the actual events it
accounts, and a spiritual viewpoint exhibits a distorted story. Miller and Houston argue for the
ballgame as a game for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a ritualized enactment of the original ballgame with the Hero Twins, One Hunahpu and
Even Hunahpu, which the Popol Vuh accounts in detail. One Death and Seven Death defeated
these twins, who sacrificed them on the ball court and buried them there. The sacrifice of players
from the ballgame appeased the Lords of Death. But, furthermore, Freidel, Schele, and Parker
believe that the physical ball court was a source or opening to the underworld where Mayans could
interact with the supernatural. In the Popol Vuh, the ballgame is refered to as hom, which is a
word that means chasm or abyss. Although Freidel, Schele, and Parker s argument aligns with the
Popol Vuh stories, Miller and Houston s argument is more

Examination Of The Fourth Amendment
Examination of the Fourth Amendment The fundamental purpose of the Fourth Amendment in the
United States Constitution is to protect every citizen s right from unreasonable searches and
seizures. The Bill of Rights composed of the first 10 amendments states the limits of governmental
authority. For instance, the First Amendment guarantees individuals natural rights such as freedom
of speech, religion, and press. In addition, the Fourth Amendment restricts government intrusions
into personal privacy and property. Both the Bill of Rights and the Fourth Amendment emerged
from several English political documents such as the Magna Carta, the Petition of Right, and the
English Bill of Rights ( Bill of Rights Bill of Rights Institute ). Among these documents, the Magna
Carta particularly had a major influence on the establishment of the Fourth Amendment. Although
the majority of the laws addressed in the document are no longer valid in today s democratic
system, the Magna Carta was the first written document to guarantee citizens rights (Sen). Prior to
the American Revolution, the American colonies were not protected from unreasonable
infringement. For instance, the British colonists enforced tax measures by general searches, which
constituted an unacceptable intrusion (Levy). Although Writs of Assistance were issued by King
George to investigate evidence of smuggling by the colonists, they allowed the British agents to
enter and search anyone s property without a specific

The Negative Effects Of Social Anxiety
How Social Anxiety Disorder Affects people in everyday life
Human beings are one of the most social creatures on the face of the planet. We depend on each
other for positivity, support, and, believe it or not, mental health. Being around others, especially
those we share a healthy relationship with, can lower stress and anxiety. So, why is it that when
some people interact with others it is the complete opposite? Sometimes, it is just a person being
shy, or around people they don t know. Other times, it is complete fearand panic when dealing with
others ( What is Social Anxiety? , Thomas A. Richards).Situations that cause the person to get
lightheaded or panic in social events to where they want to flee and stay in isolation, rather than to
have social interactions. This is known as Social Anxiety. Social anxiety is often referred to as
Social Anxiety Disorder, or SAD, and was originally it was just known as social phobia . Social
anxiety is a psychological problem that causes a fear of interactions with other people. It is the
third common disorder amongst the United States and has known to afflict people as young as the
age of 13(Understanding the Facts, ADAA). Though seemingly harmless, it can have disastrous
effects on the mind, along with personal and professional relationships, and getting through life
general. It can cause issues with personal and societal acceptance. It can also devastate self
confidence and create depression. However, despite all this, there

is and how to do it and use it. Throughout CCNA we learned how to configure a Router; the
different types of Routing protocols and most importantly what, when and how to use those
protocols in the field. Finally I will discuss Switches in how they are use to set up a LAN.
Throughout this paper these topic will be discuss to cover what was learned through class lecture

The most common of the two link state protocols is OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) it is widely
used throughout the field (#1) due to it being a non proprietor protocol as well as its ability to
interface with other networks. With OSPF you can group router into small areas and link them
through a back bone when this is done you create the following a back bone router within the
area of the back bone there is an area border router (ABR), ABR must have one interface in each
area meaning the back bone and the area trying to link to the back bone, OSPF can also connect
to multiple Autonomous System. When configuring OSPF you must assign a process number in
all router within that group must use that same number, the number can range for 1 to 65,535
you can also have more than one each one will maintain its own separate topology table as well
as manage it independently. There is also distance vectors RIP vs. 1 and 2 (Routing Information
Protocol) these work well on small networks, IGRP (Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) and
EIGRP (is the enhanced version of IGRP). The thing about these two meaning IGRP and EIGRP is
that they are proprietary protocols so they only work

Critical Criticism Of Emma By Jane Austen
Introduction Jane Austen started writing with the aim of entertaining his family but she turned out
to be a great pioneer of the feminist movement in English literature. In her writing, Jane Austen is
able to distinguish between the genders in her country. It is this her critical point of view that
causes her to be considered a member in the feminist movement. Her significance in the feminist
convention is clearly seen in that in her novels, she reflects the condition of a woman, especially of
the middle class, in an inanimate manner. Her writing depicts her as a critical judge of her society.
According to Henry Bonell, the style that is used by Jane Austen, however simple, is not naГЇve,

She indeed is a complex heroine. This is so because it is not something simple to know that what
she observes and thinks or her imaginations are wrong. Lionel Thrilling remarks that it is
inevitable that a reader will get attached to this witty character because her energy, intelligence
and style are impressive to the reader (153). Emma is courageous enough to express her thoughts
without minding the way other people may take her. The independent manners that she
possesses are what make her quite revolutionary. An example is shown when she talks with
Harriet on marriage where her female identity becomes evident, If I know myself, Harriet, mine
is an active, busy mind, with a great many independent resources; and I do not perceive why I
should be more in want of employment at forty or fifty than one and twenty. Woman s usual
occupations of eye and hand and mind will be as open to me then, as they are now; or with no
important variation. If I draw less, I shall read more; if I give up music, I shall take to carpet work.

Earlier in the century, many textile and manufacturing mills fled the Northeast for the promise of
cheap land grants and cheap labor without the hassle of dealing with the negotiation of labor union
agreements (Shuler, 1999). Today, much of that labor has departed for the shores of other
countries like Taiwan, India and China for the promise of much of the same. The Southeast never
fully adapted to the idea and continues to operate as mostly Right to Work states to this day. Shuler
(1999), states that the Southeast also faced additional struggles with union organization; Jim Crow
laws. This meant that biracial unions had to be created and were immediately met with resistance
due to the belief that even biracial interactions at the union level could lead to the downfall of the
white race. The author contends that while historically we think of labor unions as only operating
amongst blue collar workers, there is a huge market available today for labor unions to become
extremely active in the white collar

Medium Ground Finches
Medium ground finches are one of the 13 species of finches. These finches, the medium ground
finches have large beaks. You can find these finches at Daphne Major, in the center of Galapagos
island. Daphne Major is also located near South America in the South Pacific ocean.
Medium ground finches had small beaks before but changed over time. This was caused because of
evolution and survival of the fittest. When Charles Darwin came onto the island he wondered why
there were many different species of the finches, then he hypothesized that a group of finches might
have came in from South America. Then splitting of the finches and adapting into their

Analysis Of The Address By Livia Bitton Jackson
I have read several books, poems, and memoirs on WWII and the Holocaust. Diary of Anne
Frank, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, I have Lived a Thousand Years, the list goes on and on.
Interestingly, all of the written works I have read only ever talked about what happened during
those events, never after. It seems that majority of authors skip that part. Why? I do not know.
Perhaps they think it will bore readers because it is not as dramatic. Marga Minco, on the other
hand, approaches the subject of what happens after millions of people are killed in an attempted
genocide and a horrible war in her short story, The Address. While The Address may not be as
dramatic as I have Lived a Thousand Years by Livia Bitton Jackson because it does not take place
inside the concentration camp, it certainly leaves readers thinking about the tragedies that took
place around that time period. Writing in an emotionless style shows how these events affected and
changed the narrator. The narrator does not even recognise her own voice and describes it as
strange and unnatural . She speaks in a monotone fashion when the past is brought up because she
is not sure how to handle it emotionally.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The address the narrator is given and her old possessions left there represent her memories. When
she says that after the liberation I felt no interest at all in that stored stuff she is actually saying
that after she was liberated she did not want to think about the past. Later Minco uses imagery to
describe the narrator s fear of the past by describing them as things that had been stored in cases
and boxes and were waiting in vain until they would be put back in their places. Her memories
want to be remembered, she wants to remember the past, but it hurts to think about things that had
been part of a bond that no longer

Cognitive Dissonance In Children
One occasion I experienced cognitive dissonance was two years ago. My son was six years old,
and his favorite thing to do was help mommy. On this particular day he surprised me with a
special picnic lunch he made himself. He fixed us both a sandwich and a glass of overly
sweetened chocolate milk. My heart swelled with his consideration and I took a huge bite out of
my sandwich. I should have checked it. Between the slices of white bread lay pickles, mustard,
peanut butter, chocolate chips and ham. The contents of my stomach argued with my mouth; it
threatened expulsion if I tried to swallow. But, that sweet face was looking up at me expectantly
awaiting my delight at his creation. How could I hurt him? I choked it down with a smile on my
face.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a moment too long for honesty s sake, she wanted validation for her own wants. She said it
was her body, she had every right to do what she wanted. If she wanted so have another child it

opinion, she changed the question to one I had to agree with and support. I concurred that it was
her choice, as well as her husband s. She said I was right, deciding that night to speak to her
husband about trying to conceive. We hung up and she didn t speak to me until after she gave

the most part, I do okay, but there are moments that I relive every second of that trauma. My world

Ruby Moon By Matt Cameron
Ruby Moon by Matt Cameron
The Artslink Queensland production of Ruby Moon by Matt Cameron can be described as an
example of the Australian Gothic dramatic style. Ruby Moon, set in picture perfect Flaming Tree
Grove, is about the tragic dilemma of a couple, Ray and Sylvie, trying to cope with the earlier
disappearance of their young daughter, Ruby, while on the way to visit her grandmother at the end
of the cul de sac (Queensland Education, 2014).
Matt Cameron s, Ruby Moon, is an award winning contemporary Australian playwright and
screenwriter based in Melbourne which depicts a uniquely Australian landscape; employing the
conventions of the Australian Gothic Theatrical style (Queensland TheatreCompany, 2009). In the
production of Ruby Moon, the stage setting creates dramatic meaning and purpose. Ruby Moon
is set in an Australian suburban town in picture perfect Flaming Tree Grove where Ray and
Sylvie s daughter, Ruby, disappears on her way to visit her grandma at the end of the cul de sac
(HCS, 2014). The intimacy and secrecy of the Flaming Tree Grove community and its lack of
safety adds to the supernatural and paranormal intrusions of Australian Gothic Theatre. The Ruby
Moon production was fuelled and inspired by fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Snow
White, Hansel and Gretel, and Alice in Wonderland, and also newspaper headings and stories about
families and their missing children scattered around the world. Matt Cameron s purpose of the

manipulative, and dishonest behaviour. Only on rare occasions were cases of these traits were
uncovered due to the layer of superficial charm that Lady Macbeth has imposed upon herself. This
point s towards the possibility of Lady Macbeth being a psychopath instead of having an underlying
depressive disorder.
Summary of Evaluation
Results of psychological evaluation reveal an extended history of alcohol abuse and a psychotic
disorder characterized primarily by disturbance of thought content. Due to the extended need for
anti depressant drugs, it would suggest that Lady Macbeth might suffer from a depressive disorder.
However, the repeated need for the drugs, four years after the initial prescription would indicate that
an addiction has occurred. The current clinical presentation appears to represent a chronic psychotic
disturbance which had its onset approximately four years ago (the death of her child). She lacks

Reaction Paper On Poison Water
According to documentary poison water by Nova Since the late 1950s, G.M. closed seven
major facilities in the region. Tens of thousands of jobs were lost. In 2011, with the city close to
bankruptcy, Governor Rick Snyder stripped power from city officials and assigned a series of
emergency managers to fix Flint s financial crisis. In order to save money, Michigan state took
over Flint and started using it as their water source stating from April 2014.The switch from lake
Huron to Flint river ended up being a awful to the residents. The flint water was not being treated
inadequately. Even though the government of Michigan knew about this, they weren t willing to
do anything about it. Because of that, the residents were being affected in many ways. The
residents started noticing that the water was starting to have an odor and changing colors. On top
of that, they started noticing that the water was affecting their children s skins and that the water is
thinning their hair. This is not the only way the residents are being affected. From the unmonitored
excessive amount of led that is out in Flint s water, these people are exposed to possibly permanent

Abstract
EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF T.V VIOLENCE ON AGGRESSION:
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of different levels of television violence on
grade school children. Since some studies show that younger children are more prone to
aggression than older children. This study is designed to show how violence plays a role in
aggression. The intention is to show that violence causes different aggression levels between males
and females. The second purpose of this study is to show if there are any significant differences
between males and females and aggression induced by violence. The information on gender
difference and aggression is controversial. All the children were mixed in this experiment combined

The United Sates is the clear leader among modern, stable democratic nations in its rates of
homicides, assault, rape, and robbery, and it is among the highest in incidents of group violence
and assassinations. This high level of violence is dangerous to our society. It is disfiguring out
society making fortresses of portions of our cities and dividing our people into armed camps. It is
jeopardizing to some of our most precious institutions; among them our schools and universities
poisoning the spirit of trust and cooperation that is essential to their proper functioning.
In the past years until now, violence among children has increased dramatically. Cases have been
reported where grade school students take guns and other weapons to school and use them against
their teachers and classmates. Things of that sort are very much a reality for schools around the
country. Is the reason for these acts of violence that children are becoming more aggressive at
younger ages? Does, the media have to do something with the increase in violence of young
children, the fact that the media has more violence in it than any other point in history? It could be
a combination of things, including work, single parents, peer pressures, etc. The true concern is that
the media entertains children with violent shows, which are aimed at them. Some networks agreed
to place advisories warning before and the prime time television programs which they determined

Aspects Of Current Kikuyu Culture
Aspects of current Kikuyu culture were molded by modern demands impressed upon them by
British colonization. British colonists brought western ideas about living standards and health
care, as well as projecting British ideals of family life upon the Kikuyu people. In the 1950 s, as a
reaction to this imposition of western beliefs and practices upon the people of Kenya, the Mau Mau
began to fight the existing British infrastructure. This uprising was a final divide in the Kikuyutribe
based on the members desire to either adapt to modern customs or continue to try to live with their
old culture. In many ways, British colonization continues to have a lasting and substantial cultural
impact on the Kikuyu today.
To comprehend the effect that British colonization had on the Kikuyu people, first we have to
examine the pre colonial Kikuyu society. The ancestors of the Kikuyu participated in the Bantu
expansion, a millennia long phenomenon during which Bantu speaking peoples migrated from
Western Africa to various regions in Southern and Eastern Africa (The Bantu Migrations). Prior to
European intervention, the structure of Kikuyu society was relatively egalitarian. The people of
the Kikuyu did not practice slavery, and made no attempts to garner prisoners from neighboring
tribes or villages. The political structure of the Kikuyu tribe was divided among nine separate
clans. These clans were all related along maternal lines, and oftentimes lived in very close
proximity to one

Essay about Standardized Tests Are Insufficient
Standardized Tests Are Insufficient
*No Works Cited
Anyone involved in education should be concerned about how overemphasis on the SAT is
distorting educational priorities and practices, how the test is perceived by many as unfair, and
how it can have a devastating impact on the self esteem and aspirations of young students, said
University of California President Richard C. Atkinson in a speech he gives to the American
Council on Education in Washington, D.C.
I really didn t enjoy taking the SATs. SATI cannot represent the individual knowledge of one
particular test taker, because the tests have been dissected in many prep classes, designed to
improve a student s score. However, these classes can be very expensive and give ... Show more

We should consider testing students on a broader range of topics, lending more insight to a student
s versatility. To base one student s potential solely based on one standardized testis both wrong and
lazy. Colleges should be willing to examine applicants closely. They need to understand that if a
high school senior has a 4.0 GPA and happened to get a 1050 on their SAT, they re not necessarily
incapable of learning. Looking at both class rank and GPA provides a more balanced picture, hence
it would increase the diversity of students entering college.
Doing away with SAT scores could increase opportunities for those students who do not score well
on formal tests to get into colleges, that they would not have normally.
The University of California regents are in the process of trying to decide whether or not to drop
the SAT as an admission requirement. Atkinson, whose field of expertise is testing and cognitive
science, is putting his support behind the idea of doing away with the test as a gauge of whether or
not students should be able to get into one of California s state colleges.
Atkinson feels the universities should adopt a more holistic way of judging incoming students. The
idea comes from the long standing belief that the SAT is unfair to minority students. Right now,
about 90 percent of the nation s colleges use the SAT as a means to make admissions decisions,

From The Diary Of Virginia Woolf
The eight movement song cycle From the Diary of Virginia Woolf is a musical setting of excerpts
from Virginia Woolf s famed diary by American composer Dominick Argento. Each of the eight
diary excerpts is presented chronologically as its own musical movement. The selected entires
range from Woolf s first entry (April 1919) to Woolf s last entry (March 1941). The diary text is
brought to life through Argento s highly annotated musical setting. The score is written using a
twelve tone row which is repeated throughout the cycle in both the piano and vocal part. In addition
to the twelve tone row, dramatic motivic themes and contrasting create an emotional journey for the

The major sixth intervals are separated by a whole step and are first ascending following by

My Style Of Writing, One Needs For First Think About A Lab...
In order to best describe my style of writing, one needs to first think about a lab dissection. My
portfolio is a collection of literary imperfections, but, more importantly, it is a good example of one
writer s journey on refining himself and how he analyzes literature. The writings attached show how
I got progressively more particular with my writing. Theses documents are good evidence of how
my writing grew to become more in depth and challenging. I tend to take a literary work that I
have either read or watched. I focus my writing on the process of scrutinizing the main character.
More specifically, I center on their importance to the author and his ability to effectively represent
his message.
The first step in a dissection is to examine the species. This is where one gets familiar with what
they are working on. In terms of how I write, this is where I tend to take the time to outline and
focus specific points in the text that may be valuable to my paper. Formally called a pre write ,
this is when my paper is in its infantile stage of development. I do not focus on grammar or
sentence structure. I am simply gathering ideas from my mind on to paper. Often times, the
majority of what I write in this stage will get cut, but it is important that I pull out many different
quotes or ideas that may begin to relate in some way. Even though this is a very informal stage of
my paper, it is sometimes one of the most time consuming. I will write until I cannot think of

The Partition Of India And India
1. The Partition of India is the separation of India that occurred in 1947. This all began as
anticolonial elites in the Indian National Congress Party began to negotiate about a peaceful
transfer of power from the British. WWII caused a crisis in relations between the British, the
Muslim League, and Indian National Conference (Hindu dominated). Ghandi was the leading
figure of the INC. He advocated for a unified Hindu and Muslim Indian, but other officials
however disagreed about what kind of independent state India should have. The Hindus were the
majority, and the Muslims were the minority. There was much debate about which culture would
define the new nation. Up until this point it was the Hindu culture that defined Indian culture. In
1946 riots broke out between the Hindus and Muslims, and the leader of the Muslim League
demanded that British India be partitioned into separate Muslim and Hindu states. So in order to
avoid a civil war, colonial rulers decided to divide the subcontinent in two parts: India and
Pakistan. On August 14th, 1947 Pakistan gained Independence from Britain and one day later
India did as well. Unfortunately after this newfound independence violence broke out. It is
estimated that 1 million Hindus and Muslims killed one another. As a result of the violence, 12
million Hindus and Muslims left their homes to relocate in the new countries where they would be
majority. On January 30, 1948, Gandhi was assassinated for his support of a

Russian Formalism And The Hero
The title hero has been around for a long time. There are many things that can pop into a person s
head when the word hero is said. Within Russian formalism, there is the idea of structures and
perceptions within literature. The time, place, historical movement, and author, can change the
perceptions of a novel or even how it is written. Stories have been around since people started to
communicate. Stories or myths were used to teach lessons, for entertainment, or to keep history
alive. There have always been different types of stories that people would talk about. One type of
story that has been around for a long time is the story of heroes. The stories started out having
hidden lessons within the stories. To fully understand the archetype, or structure, of the heroquest
Russian formalismwill be discussed. With understanding Russian formalism, it then will be
connected to the hero quest structure. The hero quest structure will then be broken down to be
explained. To better understand the hero quest the French novel, Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow by FaГ

can be classified through the hero quest structure influencing the perceptions of the works.

Preventing Terrorist Acts with the USA Patriot Act
The USA Patriot Act also known as Uniting and Strengthening America Act by Providing

was ratified by congress and signed into law by former President George Bush. This law was

Parallelism In Psalm 1
Initially, Psalm 1 first begins with blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers (Psalm 1, New
International Version). Furthermore, after analyzing the passage I have determined the type of
Hebrew parallelism this passage exhibits is synthetic or formal parallelism. Therefore, synthetic
or formal parallelism is defined as nonparallel text, where the second line of the text contributes
to the first line (Tullock McEntire, 2012, p. 190). Consequently, the main theme of the passage is
to identify how the believers of the Lord blessed, or how to achieve divinity while avoiding the
doubters of God. Next, Psalm 1:5 reads therefore the wicked will not

In the year of 1827 the Cherokee Indians declared themselves a nation by drafting a constitution.
The discovery of gold was made just after the creation and passage of the original Cherokee

danger of being encroached upon by new settlers, the Indians went to the government to create an
arrangement to protect their lands. The Cherokees signed treaties ceding portions of their land to

was found on Cherokee land in the northwestern part of Georgia, near what is today Dahlonega.
Rumors of gold spread quickly, and white settlers rushed into Cherokee lands to make their
claims (Bjornlund 38). It had been strongly encouraged for the Cherokees to move to the west
since 1810, but with the spur of the gold rush in 1829, the Indian Removal Act was passed in
1830. Georgia was the main state for gold, and they were also one of the most aggressive in
removing the Indians from their state (Bjornlund 38). In 1828 the government took away all of
the rights for the Cherokee people, because they had no rights they could not keep their lands
because they could not testify in court to defend themselves or their claims. Recognizing that they
would get no help from the states, John Ross and a group of Cherokee representatives traveled to

that the United States Government honor the past treaties to enforce Cherokee land boundaries.

Cherokees (Bjornlund 39). Sadly, with Andrew Jackson as the President of the United States, the

We can see this on how college students use Facebook. This social network is used not only to

have concluded that although Facebook is the most popular social network in United States where

How Did The October Revolution Affect The Bolsheviks
After overthrowing the Provisional Government and forming the Sovnarkom socialist government
in the October Revolution (1917), the Bolsheviks were hampered by problems that arose over
social, political and economic factors, however to consolidate their power, they used means of
sabotage and appeasing the population. Many decrees were published to placate the masses, such as
the Decree on land and the Decree on Workers Control, to control the economic situation.
Politically, the Bolsheviks formed the Cheka to expose and investigate all counter revolutionary and

The Bolsheviks were concerned about their abilitiy to remain in control. This is because the
October Revolution (1917) came too late to prevent the elections of the All Russian Constituent
Assembly from going ahead in November as planned. The voting (12 15 November 1917)
occurred and the results dismayed the Bolsheviks. Although they had won 175 seats in the
assembly, they were outvoted by nearly two to one by the SRs who won 370/707 seats and had
the majority with 52%. Lenin was worried about the results and believed that they had no need of
an assembly because to hand over power to the Constituent Assembly would again be to
compromise with the malignant bourgeoisie. With this mentality in mind, Lenin urged the
Bolsheviks to dissolve the Constituent Assembly. This occurred on 5 January 1918 when, after a
long day of negotiations and disagreements between the Bolsheviks and Left SRs and Mensheviks
and Right SRs, the meeting ended at 5am. When the delegates arrived at 5pm for the reconvened
session, they found that the Tauride Palace was locked and guarded by Bolshevik troops who
presented them with a decree declaring that the Constituent Assembly has been dissolved. The
Bolsheviks believed that the machine gun became for them the principle instrument of political
persuasion, (Richard Pipes) which outlined their motives behind dissolving the assembly. This
contributed to formation of the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic (RSFSR), who formally
came into being (19 July 1918), which allowed the Bolsheviks to remain firmly in power. Thus,
concluding that the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly allowed the Bolsheviks to establish the

they were drawn up by Whites who manipulated the White society to believe that these caricatures
were facts, which in reality, they were not.

about him. Tinker work is to mend pots and sharpen knives and scissors. My essay will talk about

with Elisa that he started to tell her that how he is really hungry and he thinks that he will not
eat anything at tonight. The sharpen things helped him to earn something because that was his
work that helped him to eat something for a day.. He said that people in Seattle to San Diego

Applying the Social Cognitive Theory of Albert Bandura
Annie, a fifth grade student in Mr. Keller s class, is being quiet and sullen for the fifth day in a
row. I just can t do this writing stuff, she finally says in an appeal to Mr. Keller. I m not a good
student. Give me P.E. or art over this stuff any day! If we apply Albert Banduras social cognitive
theory in her comment I just can t do this writing stuff how does Bandura s theory help us to
understand Annie? According, the Social Cognitive Theory of Albert Bandura which combines
both behavioral and cognitive philosophies to form his theory of modeling, or observational learning

404) and these predictions are affected by self efficacy, a concept that he describes as our beliefs
about our personal competence or effectiveness... which means it varies, depending on the
subject or task (p. 405). In Annie s case, we can determinate that she does not have a high
confidence in herself when it comes to writing skills or other school subjects. Her attitude can
be based on previous negative experiences or the low self efficacy in a specific task, in her
situation is writing. However, she does state that she is more confident academically when the
subjects are PE or art. Annie s motivation in other areas may be high because she has better
experiences and outcomes; therefore, since she is able to can set up higher goals in these
subjects, she is less afraid of failure. If Annie gets helpo gain positive experiences in writing may
also increase her self efficacy in writing and other areas.
Consequently, how social cognitive theory can help Annie become more confident and successful
in her writing skills? Annie may think that she is not confident or competent enough at school;
according to the social cognitive theory, there is evidence that a higher sense of self efficacy
supports motivation, even when the efficacy is an overestimation (Woolfolk, 2013, p. 408).
Therefore, if we increase Annie s self efficacy with the following: (a) adopt short term goals so it is

Leadership Assessment
1. Analyze the leadership styles(s) of a senior executive (CEO, CFO, COO, Director, ect.) in your
current or previous organization who made a positive or negative impact on you.
In a previous organization I had a platoon sergeant by the name of Staff Sergeant Hardy. He was a
very strategic leader who had the ability to anticipate, envision, maintain flexibility, think
strategically, and works with others to initiate changes that created a positive future for our platoon
/company (Williams, 2012).

Sergeant Hardy knew what he valued. He also recognized the importance of ethical behavior. He
exhibited both values and ethics in his leadership style and actions. Sergeant Hardy ethics and
values were very visible because he lived them in his actions every single day. He lived true to
all seven United States Army core values and everyone in his presents followed his lead. As a
leader, Sergeant Hardy chooses the values and the ethics that were most important to him, the
values and ethics he believed in and it defined his character. Living his values was one of the
most powerful tools available to him that helped him lead and influence others in the workplace.
He knew the vital aspect of the workplace is working well with others. That included everyone
from peers to supervisors. He knew not all employees will not always like each other, but knew
they needed to set aside their personal or even work related differences to reach a larger goal. In
many instances, those who are not considered team players could have faced demotion. On the

Determining The Chemical Formula For Two Hydrates Through...
The goals of the experiment are to determine the chemical formulas for two hydrates through
dehydration. Introduction: A chemical equation demonstrates the quantity of atoms of every
component that make up the compound. The atomic proportion of components in the compound is
the same as the molar proportion of those components. This information can be applied to solve for
the mass of one mole of a compound by including the molar masses of the constituent components.
Hydrates are combinations that are salts with water particles synthetically clung to them. Really, the

We could have possibly achieved our expected results if we had allowed the Zinc Sulfate
Hydrate to cool down for those extra four minutes. The experimental error in this lab included
the question whether the digital scale was as precise as it could be, how the cooling time
affected the water in the hydrates, and any miscalculations that could have occurred. The digital
scale could have been more precise since they are more precise scales that could deliver more
accurate masses in this lab. The cooling time caused error when calculating the moles of water
because the actual result was seven moles instead of five moles which was what was calculated.
The calculations could have been potentially miscalculated particularly due to the significant
figures used in the data. The method for this experiment can be improved by maybe using another
object rather than the crucible to allow a faster cooling time that way the calculations for the

Thomas Edison s Inventions That Changed The World
I have not failed. I ve just found 10,000 ways that won t work. Thomas Edison What Edison
meant by this was that before any of his inventions in life were perfect he had to try and fail an
innumerable amount of times. Even though he had many blunders, it didn t stop him. The light
bulb is yet another unacknowledged revolutionary device that is used daily, like the wheel.
Thomas Edison is known for inventing numerous revolutionary inventions like the phonograph.
The light has changed the world in countless ways. Without the light bulb, there would be no
television, flash photography, cell phones, and simple tasks light driving at night. Many
companies today would not exist, for example, Christmas light companies. The light bulb has
made a vital impact on the world, and it would be chaos without it. As soon as someone hears
light bulb, usually they would think of Thomas Edison. Despite what they think, Edison didn t
invent the light bulb! But, he did make the most efficient one for his time period. In 1802
Humphry Davy invented first electric light , an electric battery with wires and carbon filament. In
1840, Warren De La Rue made a coiled platinum filament and put it in a vacuum tube while an
electric current passed through it so it would glow. In 1850, Joseph Wilson Swan had made an
enclosed carbonized filament inside an evacuated glass bulb. Finally, Edison made the first
lightbulb in 1879. To power these light they would eventually need a

Terracotta VPN Helps APT Groups Launch Attacks Around the World
Terracotta is a VPN network of over 1500 VPN nodes around the world. The Chinese based VPN
service provider has obtained their VPN nodes illegally by hacking into unsuspecting companies
that have inadequately protected their Windows servers. Each day new VPN nodes are added to the
Terracotta network as the Chinese company enlists new victims. Furthermore, the VPN nodes are
not known publicly and only people who subscribe to the Terracotta network have access to these
nodes. http://securityaffairs.co/wordpress/39114/cyber crime/terracotta vpn hacking platform.html

The group sequentially goes down the IP address until it finds a Windows server. Afterwards it
uses a brute force attack to obtain the administrator s password. Once inside it can easily disable
the Windows firewall and inject a remote Trojan. The final step is to create a new account on the
server and install a windows VPN service.
What is unique about the Terracotta attacks is that no one suspects a school would be responsible
for launching an advanced persistent attack on their company. Furthermore, the advanced attacks on
companies are launched from legitimate IP addresses belonging to companies and organizations
with a good reputation. Therefore, it makes it harder for businesses to identify their attackers.
RSA has started publishing the malicious IP address and notifying the U.S. based victims. Many
of the compromised servers have been cleaned up, but there s a lesson to learn from this. No
matter how small your company or even if you don t consider your sever important it needs to be
protected. Any unprotected Windows server can easily become a victim for Terracotta.
Furthermore, all unprotected servers can be used for denial of service attacks or botnets for

Proposal For Legalizing Industrial Hemp
HEMP FREEDOM:
A Proposal for Legalizing Industrial Hemp Cultivation

Date: April 14, 2015

From: Jonathon Flight
Subject: Proposal for Legalizing Industrial hemp cultivation
The U.S. government, in all its wisdom, treats hemp and marijuana in the same manner. Despite
one offering no psychoactive effects (hemp) and the other offering psychoactive effects
(marijuana), both are against the law. Several states have passed laws to allow the growing of
hemp; however the federal government has stood firm on the ban for decades, and continues to
do so. The time has come for the feds to update obsolete polices and get a dose of reality; it s time
to legalize industrial hemp.
Did you know Industrial hemp has been grown on American soil since the beginning of this great
nation? Did you also know that it s only been illegal for over 70 years now? So why now is this
amazing resourceful plant illegal? That s one question that still needs to be answered. In this
proposal I will introduce and explain why industrial hemp needs to be made legal to manufacture
and cultivate in the United States of America.
This plant has huge potential and a growing market in the United States. What makes hemp so
valuable? Its uses are virtually endless. But, here s a start:
Paper
Plastics
Clothing

Christian Beliefs In Beowulf
The Beliefs of Beowulf
Beowulf can be referred to as the mother poem of England. The true origin of the poem is
unknown. However, it is believed to be written by a monk around the time of 700 A.D. near the
modern day West Midlands of England. Regardless, the author expresses their knowledge of
Christianity and paganism throughout the poem. The two beliefs are very different from one
another, but the author was able to tie them together to build the story. The paganism reflects past
memories of the beliefs that the people in the land shared. Christianity gives reference to the new
beliefs and values the people were following at the time the poem was written. Even though the
author of Beowulf is unknown, he/she has done a well job of expressing the poem with Christian
values, Pagan beliefs, and the conflict between the two. Beowulf refers to Christianity before
paganism. The first reference is the Song of Creation found in lines 3 13: As day after day the
music rang/Loud in that hall, the harp s rejoicing/Call and the poet s clear songs, sung/Of the
ancient beginnings of us all, recalling/The Almighty making the earth, shaping/These beautiful
plains marked off by oceans,/Then proudly setting the sun and moon/To glow across the land and
light it;/The corners of the earth were made lovely with trees/And leaves, made quick with life,
with each/Of the nations who now move on its face. Many of Hrothgar s men are still pagan,
however, he has converted to Christianity. Hrothgar

Mistake of Fact Mistake of fact can be further divided as bilateral and unilateral mistake.
a)Bilateral Mistake: According to Section 20 where both the parties to an agreement are under a

declaring an agreement to be void ab initio under this Section, the following three conditions must
be fulfilled:
Both the parties must be under a mistake
Mistake must relate to some fact and not to judgement or opinion etc.
The fact must be essential to the agreement
Various cases that fall under bilateral mistake are as

Cognitive Aging Through A Variety Of Theories
Research has attempted to explain cognitive aging through a variety of theories. Each of these
theories believes that it can encapsulate all the changes that occur in cognition as individual s age.
Some of these cognitive aging theories include executive function, speed of processing, inhibition
and frontal lobe theory. This paper will examine each theory along with the supporting research.
Furthermore this paper will attempt to draw a conclusion on which theory or explanation best
explains cognitive aging.
The first theory that aims to explain cognitive aging is executive functioning or executive control.
Executive functioning tends to become entangled with speed of processing across the literature.
However, it should be noted that executive function encompasses many complex tasks and
cognitive facets. A study done by C.T Albinet et al. (2012) tried to identify the key elements of
executive functioning thus allowing it to stand alone. Albinet et al. (2012) identified that executive
functioning is the ability to create goals, planning, action sequences monitoring, mental flexibility,
inhibition updating working memory (Albinet et al, 2012, pg.2). Essentially executive functioning
is higher level everyday functioning. A study done by Cepeda, Blackwell Munakata (2013)
suggests that executive function is needed behind many tasks that may be considered part of speed
of processing. An example the study (Cepeda, Blackwell, Munakata, 2013) provided was in young

Methods Of Dividing The Networks Into Small Controllable...
3.1 Clustering approach: The approach of dividing the networks into small controllable units is
called as clustering. The clustering technique advances the scalability of network through ease of
implementation and results energy efficient routing within the sensor networks. The clustering
approach has some other advantages also like conserving communication bandwidth, avoiding
redundant message transfer, localizing energy efficient route setup etc. LEACH, HEED, DECA,
etc. are the energy efficient routing protocols based on clustering technique. 3.1.1 LEACH: LEACH
stands for Low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy [10]. It uses the clustering technique to
distribute the energy consumption beside its network. LEACH protocol divides the network in the
form of cluster heads and clusters to gather the data packet information. The cluster heads do get
together with cluster nodes to collect the data information. Each round of LEACH protocol
performs following steps: Advertisement phase: It is the first step. The cluster head issues a
notification to the nodes to become a cluster member in its cluster within its transmission range.
The nodes recognize the information based upon the Received Signal Strength [10]. Cluster set up
phase: Nodes within cluster respond to their cluster heads. Schedule creation: After receiving
reaction from the cluster nodes the cluster head (CH) construct TDMA scheme and send it back to
cluster node member to intimate them when they have to pass

Similarities Between Antwone Fisher And Fences
Defeating Battles In August Wilson s play, Fences, Bono says, Some people build fences to
keep people out... and other people build fences to keep people in (Wilson 61). Due to past
experiences, many people keep their anger inside and alienate the people they are close to. For
example, Troy, in Fences, experiences a rough childhood while growing up. This is brought about
due to neglect by his father. Because of this, Troy makes the decision to isolate the people who are
close to him. Troy has an affair with Alberta; therefore, he alienates Rose, his wife. Similarly, in the
film Antwone Fisher, the main character, Antwone is sexually abused in his foster home. Antwone
is afraid to be in a relationship with Cheryl because he feels he cannot allow anyone into his inner
sanctum. The young, male protagonists in both the film Antwone Fisher and the play Fences share
a connection in that they suffer from abuse during their childhoods, and now isolate themselves

series of counselling to help him come to terms with the past. As Davenport helped him move on
with his life; he reinforces the meaning of the word forgiveness, which means, Regard without ill
will despite an offense... (Antwone.n.pag.). This concept is something Troy was not taught in his
adulthood, which caused him to act the way he does. He does not conquer the past and deal
through the issues of his childhood. Antwone Fisher achieved a healthy lifestyle with the help of
Davenport and is, therefore, allowing Cheryl in his

Definition Essay Freedom
Freedom is often viewed by having the right to be independent or to be free from servitude,
constraint, inhibition, and liberty (Oxford Dictionary). The word freedom derived from a
Germanic culture. Freedom has a different meaning to different people; for example kids, adults
and different races. Socially, politically, and religiously the word freedom fits into different
categories with different meanings depending on who thinks about the word. Freedom has a wide
range of definitions that should be specifically stated in one that addresses the public in one way
so everyone knows the same definition and does not cause confusion. Socially, the word freedom

When it comes to politics, people become very serious. Kids do not have much of a say in
politics when they are younger than 18, but once they turn 18, they can vote to elect someone to
run office. The problem with this is most young teens today do not know what is actually being
said in office. Teens think it would be funny or cool to vote for someone when the whole world
could crash. The word freedom effects teens in this way because they think oh, I have the right to
be free and have free speech which is true but that statement can not be taken lightly. Most young
teens do not have a clue about politics and vote anyways causing the voting pole to increase
towards one person running in office and it could be where that person is not favorited by the
older generation. Adults on the other hand are from an older generation who has deeper knowledge
of politics. The word freedom for adults politically could mean that they can vote for who they want
to because they are free to do so. Having two generations of people and different races politically
can cause problems with the freedom to vote. Also, African Americans have a different view on
freedom politically. African Americans can have very much the same view of an adult as well as
having their own independent view. In this case politically the word freedom means anyone can
have the right to vote and have free speech. Religious beliefs can often affect the word freedom as

  • 2. Celebrating the Triumph of Charlie Parker Essay Charles Christopher Parker Jr. was born on August 29, 1920 in Kansas City, Kansas to Charles and Addie Parker. Charlie led a lonely childhood which resulted from his parents separation in 1927 when Charlie was just 7 years old. His father was never around much following the separation. Their house however was just a short walk from Kansas City s entertainment district which attracted Charlie while growing up. This was to be where Charlie would find his place in the world. While Charlie s mother was working, he would walk around Kansas City listening to jazz behind the clubs. Parker would sit around all night listening to his idol Lester Young perform along with the Count Bassie band. It was here that Charlie was developing his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To support himself Charlie washed dishes at a local food joint, where he met Buddy Fleet, who was the one who tutored Charlie in playing the saxophone. Charlie would then return to Kansas City due to the death of his father and stayed home for about a half a year while playing in a small band there. Then in late 1939 Charlie joined back up with McShann and moved back to Harlem, where Charlie would meet Dizzie Gillespie. Gillespie would join Charlie and would start to work together and develop a new form of jazz. While Charlie was experimenting with a number of different chords in a jam session he discovered a new approach to improvisation. These new chord progressions and the ever emerging sounds of Harlem, bebop was born. Parker would eventually need a break from New York Cityand decided to travel to California where he would travel for a couple years. It was during this trip to the west coast that he would get heavier in to drugs and alcohol, specifically heroin which he used as his inspiration. It was while in Los Angeles performing that Charlie would suffer a nervous breakdown, for which he was confined to a hospital bed. He was released in 1947 and returned to New York, where he formed a quintet with Miles Davis and others. Parker would once again tire of New York City and head to Europe for a couple of years, where he would encounter a lot of devoted fans and he also did numerous recordings. In Charlie s ... • 3. Analysis Of The Poem Nothing Gold Can Stay The poem Nothing Gold Can Stay was written by Robert Frost in 1927. He married his wife Elinor in 1895, though she died in 1938. He had 5 kids with her, Elliot, Carol, Irma, Marjorie, and Elinor. Elliot and Elinor died as small children, Carol and Marjorie who died at the ages of 38 and in the late 20s. Whereas Irma the last child suffered from mental illness. Although Nothing Gold Can Stay is short, it is a narrative because it is telling a story. The title of the poem, Nothing Gold Can Stay, has multiple meanings and can mean whatever you perceive it as. It talks about Nature s renewal every spring and how it s hard for Mother Nature to hold on to spring. Whereas during the time period he wrote the poem World War 2 was happening and so he was talking about how he thought the world was going to end and lose everything beautiful about it. Although there is no steady repetition the word gold is used throughout the poem, and gold is referring to everything beautiful in the world and how no matter what we do we can t stop time from taking its beauty from it. In the poem, it is talking about when spring comes and goes, or about how nothing that has beauty can stay forever . For example, it says But only so an hour as referring to how short your childhood can go by. So dawn goes down to day this could also mean how fast it goes by because dawn can disappear very fast. There is two characters, and one is Mother Nature and she is the one that is trying to get spring to stay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Life Of Hayao Miyazaki The Life of Hayao Miyazaki The Story of My Search When we were first assigned this paper, I was stumped. My interests span throughout a broad variety of topics, and because of this, I did not really know where to start. I have long been intrigued by the world of Japanese animation, and recently, I happened upon a hard copy of my favorite film from when I was a child: Howl s Moving Castle. All of the nostalgic memories I have of watching it when I was a child flooded my mind, reminding me of how much I admire the artwork in the movie. I began to brainstorm ideas related to this. In the end, I boiled it down to a biography of Hayao Miyazaki (the director) and the strong themes in his movies. Combining the two lead me to decide on addressing how his personal life influenced the persuasive themes and symbols he conveys through his beautiful art. My first step to approaching this challenge was to go to the library and research sources that would be useful in completing this paper. After a few hours I had a written list of dependable articles and websites that pertained to his movies. Unfortunately, no credible source discussed his life. By chance, I managed to acquire a book discussing Miyazaki s art and also providing a history of his career; however, this made my list too plentiful, so I chose the facts most relevant to my specific topic. The Results of My Search Hayao Miyazaki was born in the Bunkyo ho district of Tokyo on January 5, 1941. His father, Katsuji Miyazaki, was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Francis Of Assisi Summary Francis of Assisi once stated for it is in giving that we receive. Service has played an instrumental role in my life since a very young age. I have logged over 500 hours of volunteer work while serving in the military. However, for this assignment, seven hours have never meant so much to me. I have a certification as a Direct Service Advocate through the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV); therefore, seeking meaningful service with Crisis Intervention Services was simple. Every article we have read throughout this class proves that service is important, but helping someone who has reached the most fearful part of their life is a life changing experience for everyone involved. Students who are able to take information from the classroom and apply in it the field can understand the how and why things are done the way they are. Moreover, Sax and Astin stated that service learning requires students to go out into their field and then return to relate their experiences via writings, discussions, or class presentations (Sax Astin, 1997). I related to Sax and Astin with their characteristics of service participants. The authors claimed that a student who has longevity in volunteering, leadership and strong family commitment to their community are strong candidates to volunteering. My biggest inspiration for service comes from my father who spent 25 years as a volunteer fireman in our community. My childhood idolization of my father corroborated the authors claim that service participates are not to be motivated by materialistic values (Sax Astin, 1997). Ultimately, Sax and Astin stated during college, service participants exhibit greater increases in social self confidence and leadership ability than do nonparticipants (Sax Astin, 1997). In relation to Sax and Astin I feel I have enhanced my interpersonal skills, confidence in dealing with people, and working in a profession that is not common for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Kristallnacht Analysis After the defeat in WWI and the humiliation of the Treaty of Versailles, Germany faced an economic crash and was left under the rule of an unstable democracy. In times of desperate need, the German people favored the Nazi party and elected their own fascist leader, Adolf Hitler. While the Germans simply hoped for bread, work, and the restoration of German pride, they were given much more than they bargained for. Hitler created his own cult of personality and blinded the citizenry to his promotion of racist ideas and stereotypes, which eventually escalated into millions of deaths across Europe, and a war that changed the world. Although the violence on Kristallnacht is viewed as the the spark that led to the flames of the Holocaust, one must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Germany s economy after World War I was left in shambles, to the point where people were living off of bread and water. The FГјhrer took advantage of the people s fear and desperation and used it to forward his agenda, presenting himself as their light in the darkness. He created a cult of personality, not unlike those of dictators who ruled at the same time, such as Joseph Stalin Russia and Benito Mussolini of Italy, or even Kim Jong Un of today. An image from 1938 depicts the different Badges of Shame assigned to those in concentration camps, including Jews, homosexuals, immigrants, political enemies, and the mentally ill (Doc 7). Hitler took advantage of symbolism, and in this case used it to categorize and divide his targets, creating a social stigma around those who wore the stars and triangles. He further used symbolism in establishing unity among the German population and solidifying his cult following, by making forcing them to pledge their allegiance to him. An image from 1935 of a Nazi Rally in Nuremberg depicts a huge crowd of young Germans doing the Nazi salute (Doc 6). With a hand gesture stolen from the Romans, he made it his own by adding the words Heil Hitler! . In addition to using symbolism, Hitler used the media and appointed a Minister of Propaganda to build up a positive image. This hero worship allowed Hitler ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay on A Progressive Movement A Progressive Movement Much of a historian s job is to read what their colleagues have written on their subject of interest at the moment. Often, they then go on to write their own opinions on the subject, thereby influencing the historians of the future. The famed historian and teacher Richard Hofstadter wrote The Age of Reform in 1955 about the late 19th century and early 20th century movement of Progressivism. In turn, other historians that include Paula Baker, Richard McCormick, and Peter Filene have written their opinion on what the movement we call Progressivism really was, and what its real significance is, or even if it really existed as a movement in its own right. Richard Hofstadter s book The Age of Reform was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Filene defines a movement as a collectivity acting with some continuity to promote or resist a change in the society...one can then analyze its internal characteristics along four dimensions: program, the values which underlie this program, membership and supporters (20 21). Filene finds the program of a social movement the most important part, for without a program the movement will be unable to sustain itself. His most convincing point is that on so many issues, the Progressives, supposedly a defined and cohesive movement, had numerous splits within their group. For example, The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 created, according to Arthur Link, a conflict between uncompromising and middle of the road progressives. The most convincing example concerns women s suffrage, a cause that has generally been attributed to the progressive movement. However, as Filene points out, progressive Presidents Roosevelt and Taft were unwilling to appease feminists with suffrage, and stayed far from the idea for as long as possible. Indeed, if a list of 400 so called progressives is carefully researched, it may be noted that they are divided almost exactly down the center for and against a woman s right to vote (22 23). In this way, it is clear that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay On The Mayan Ballgame Sacrifice In the realm of the Classic Maya ballgame, there is much speculation based off carvings, and there exists little concrete knowledge. Overall, the ballgame served as a religious altar where sacrificial events took place, but various researchers find drastically different reasons for the act of sacrifice on the ball court. Miller and Houston explain, through a materialistic and political lens, that the Ancient Mayan ballgame served as a means for an individual, typically a captive of war, to play for their life; it was a political gameto emphasize who was the stronger and authoritative society. However, Freidel, Schele, and Parker, through a spiritual and idealistic lens, see the ballgame as a ritualized reenactment of a mythological event involving the Hero Twins. Moreover, Miller and Houston s argument, using archeological proof, is more convincing because Freidel, Schele, and Parker s reliance on the Popol Vuh, written much later than the actual events it accounts, and a spiritual viewpoint exhibits a distorted story. Miller and Houston argue for the ballgame as a game for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. Examination Of The Fourth Amendment Examination of the Fourth Amendment The fundamental purpose of the Fourth Amendment in the United States Constitution is to protect every citizen s right from unreasonable searches and seizures. The Bill of Rights composed of the first 10 amendments states the limits of governmental authority. For instance, the First Amendment guarantees individuals natural rights such as freedom of speech, religion, and press. In addition, the Fourth Amendment restricts government intrusions into personal privacy and property. Both the Bill of Rights and the Fourth Amendment emerged from several English political documents such as the Magna Carta, the Petition of Right, and the English Bill of Rights ( Bill of Rights Bill of Rights Institute ). Among these documents, the Magna Carta particularly had a major influence on the establishment of the Fourth Amendment. Although the majority of the laws addressed in the document are no longer valid in today s democratic system, the Magna Carta was the first written document to guarantee citizens rights (Sen). Prior to the American Revolution, the American colonies were not protected from unreasonable infringement. For instance, the British colonists enforced tax measures by general searches, which constituted an unacceptable intrusion (Levy). Although Writs of Assistance were issued by King George to investigate evidence of smuggling by the colonists, they allowed the British agents to enter and search anyone s property without a specific ... We depend on each other for positivity, support, and, believe it or not, mental health. Being around others, especially those we share a healthy relationship with, can lower stress and anxiety. So, why is it that when some people interact with others it is the complete opposite? Sometimes, it is just a person being shy, or around people they don t know. Other times, it is complete fearand panic when dealing with others ( What is Social Anxiety? , Thomas A. Richards).Situations that cause the person to get lightheaded or panic in social events to where they want to flee and stay in isolation, rather than to have social interactions. This is known as Social Anxiety. Social anxiety is often referred to as Social Anxiety Disorder, or SAD, and was originally it was just known as social phobia . Social anxiety is a psychological problem that causes a fear of interactions with other people. It is the third common disorder amongst the United States and has known to afflict people as young as the age of 13(Understanding the Facts, ADAA). We also learned what VLSM is and how to do it and use it. Throughout CCNA we learned how to configure a Router; the different types of Routing protocols and most importantly what, when and how to use those protocols in the field. Finally I will discuss Switches in how they are use to set up a LAN. • 14. Critical Criticism Of Emma By Jane Austen Introduction Jane Austen started writing with the aim of entertaining his family but she turned out to be a great pioneer of the feminist movement in English literature. In her writing, Jane Austen is able to distinguish between the genders in her country. It is this her critical point of view that causes her to be considered a member in the feminist movement. Her significance in the feminist convention is clearly seen in that in her novels, she reflects the condition of a woman, especially of the middle class, in an inanimate manner. Her writing depicts her as a critical judge of her society. Lionel Thrilling remarks that it is inevitable that a reader will get attached to this witty character because her energy, intelligence and style are impressive to the reader (153). Emma is courageous enough to express her thoughts without minding the way other people may take her. The independent manners that she possesses are what make her quite revolutionary. An example is shown when she talks with Harriet on marriage where her female identity becomes evident, If I know myself, Harriet, mine is an active, busy mind, with a great many independent resources; and I do not perceive why I should be more in want of employment at forty or fifty than one and twenty. Woman s usual occupations of eye and hand and mind will be as open to me then, as they are now; or with no important variation. The Southeast never fully adapted to the idea and continues to operate as mostly Right to Work states to this day. This meant that biracial unions had to be created and were immediately met with resistance due to the belief that even biracial interactions at the union level could lead to the downfall of the white race. Diary of Anne Frank, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, I have Lived a Thousand Years, the list goes on and on. Interestingly, all of the written works I have read only ever talked about what happened during those events, never after. It seems that majority of authors skip that part. Why? I do not know. Perhaps they think it will bore readers because it is not as dramatic. Marga Minco, on the other hand, approaches the subject of what happens after millions of people are killed in an attempted genocide and a horrible war in her short story, The Address. While The Address may not be as dramatic as I have Lived a Thousand Years by Livia Bitton Jackson because it does not take place inside the concentration camp, it certainly leaves readers thinking about the tragedies that took place around that time period. Ruby Moon is set in an Australian suburban town in picture perfect Flaming Tree Grove where Ray and Sylvie s daughter, Ruby, disappears on her way to visit her grandma at the end of the cul de sac (HCS, 2014). The intimacy and secrecy of the Flaming Tree Grove community and its lack of safety adds to the supernatural and paranormal intrusions of Australian Gothic Theatre. The ancestors of the Kikuyu participated in the Bantu expansion, a millennia long phenomenon during which Bantu speaking peoples migrated from Western Africa to various regions in Southern and Eastern Africa (The Bantu Migrations). Prior to European intervention, the structure of Kikuyu society was relatively egalitarian. This all began as anticolonial elites in the Indian National Congress Party began to negotiate about a peaceful transfer of power from the British. WWII caused a crisis in relations between the British, the Muslim League, and Indian National Conference (Hindu dominated). Ghandi was the leading figure of the INC. He advocated for a unified Hindu and Muslim Indian, but other officials however disagreed about what kind of independent state India should have. The Hindus were the majority, and the Muslims were the minority. There was much debate about which culture would define the new nation. Parallelism In Psalm 1 Initially, Psalm 1 first begins with blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers (Psalm 1, New International Version). Furthermore, after analyzing the passage I have determined the type of Hebrew parallelism this passage exhibits is synthetic or formal parallelism. Therefore, synthetic or formal parallelism is defined as nonparallel text, where the second line of the text contributes to the first line (Tullock McEntire, 2012, p. 190). Consequently, the main theme of the passage is to identify how the believers of the Lord blessed, or how to achieve divinity while avoiding the doubters of God. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bolsheviks were concerned about their abilitiy to remain in control. This is because the October Revolution (1917) came too late to prevent the elections of the All Russian Constituent Assembly from going ahead in November as planned. The voting (12 15 November 1917) occurred and the results dismayed the Bolsheviks. Although they had won 175 seats in the assembly, they were outvoted by nearly two to one by the SRs who won 370/707 seats and had the majority with 52%. Lenin was worried about the results and believed that they had no need of an assembly because to hand over power to the Constituent Assembly would again be to compromise with the malignant bourgeoisie. With this mentality in mind, Lenin urged the Bolsheviks to dissolve the Constituent Assembly. This occurred on 5 January 1918 when, after a long day of negotiations and disagreements between the Bolsheviks and Left SRs and Mensheviks and Right SRs, the meeting ended at 5am. When the delegates arrived at 5pm for the reconvened session, they found that the Tauride Palace was locked and guarded by Bolshevik troops who presented them with a decree declaring that the Constituent Assembly has been dissolved. The Bolsheviks believed that the machine gun became for them the principle instrument of political persuasion, (Richard Pipes) which outlined their motives behind dissolving the assembly. This contributed to formation of the Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic (RSFSR), who formally came into being (19 July 1918), which allowed the Bolsheviks to remain firmly in power. Regardless, the author expresses their knowledge of Christianity and paganism throughout the poem. The two beliefs are very different from one another, but the author was able to tie them together to build the story. The first theory that aims to explain cognitive aging is executive functioning or executive control. Executive functioning tends to become entangled with speed of processing across the literature. However, it should be noted that executive function encompasses many complex tasks and cognitive facets. A study done by C.T Albinet et al. (2012) tried to identify the key elements of executive functioning thus allowing it to stand alone. Albinet et al. (2012) identified that executive functioning is the ability to create goals, planning, action sequences monitoring, mental flexibility, inhibition updating working memory (Albinet et al, 2012, pg.2). Essentially executive functioning is higher level everyday functioning. A study done by Cepeda, Blackwell Munakata (2013) suggests that executive function is needed behind many tasks that may be considered part of speed of processing. An example the study (Cepeda, Blackwell, Munakata, 2013) provided was in young children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Methods Of Dividing The Networks Into Small Controllable... 3.1 Clustering approach: The approach of dividing the networks into small controllable units is called as clustering. The clustering technique advances the scalability of network through ease of implementation and results energy efficient routing within the sensor networks. The clustering approach has some other advantages also like conserving communication bandwidth, avoiding redundant message transfer, localizing energy efficient route setup etc. LEACH, HEED, DECA, etc. are the energy efficient routing protocols based on clustering technique. 3.1.1 LEACH: LEACH stands for Low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy [10]. It uses the clustering technique to distribute the energy consumption beside its network. LEACH protocol divides the network in the form of cluster heads and clusters to gather the data packet information. The cluster heads do get together with cluster nodes to collect the data information. Each round of LEACH protocol performs following steps: Advertisement phase: It is the first step. The cluster head issues a notification to the nodes to become a cluster member in its cluster within its transmission range. The nodes recognize the information based upon the Received Signal Strength [10]. Cluster set up phase: Nodes within cluster respond to their cluster heads. Schedule creation: After receiving reaction from the cluster nodes the cluster head (CH) construct TDMA scheme and send it back to cluster node member to intimate them when they have to pass ... Similarities Between Antwone Fisher And Fences Defeating Battles In August Wilson s play, Fences, Bono says, Some people build fences to keep people out... and other people build fences to keep people in (Wilson 61). Due to past experiences, many people keep their anger inside and alienate the people they are close to. For example, Troy, in Fences, experiences a rough childhood while growing up. This is brought about due to neglect by his father. Because of this, Troy makes the decision to isolate the people who are close to him. Troy has an affair with Alberta; therefore, he alienates Rose, his wife. Similarly, in the film Antwone Fisher, the main character, Antwone is sexually abused in his foster home. Antwone is afraid to be in a relationship with Cheryl because he feels he cannot allow anyone into his inner sanctum. The young, male protagonists in both the film Antwone Fisher and the play Fences share a connection in that they suffer from abuse during their childhoods, and now isolate themselves from others as... As Davenport helped him move on with his life; he reinforces the meaning of the word forgiveness, which means, Regard without ill will despite an offense... (Antwone.n.pag.). This concept is something Troy was not taught in his adulthood, which caused him to act the way he does. He does not conquer the past and deal through the issues of his childhood. When it comes to politics, people become very serious. Kids do not have much of a say in politics when they are younger than 18, but once they turn 18, they can vote to elect someone to run office. The problem with this is most young teens today do not know what is actually being said in office. Teens think it would be funny or cool to vote for someone when the whole world could crash. The word freedom effects teens in this way because they think oh, I have the right to be free and have free speech which is true but that statement can not be taken lightly. Most young teens do not have a clue about politics and vote anyways causing the voting pole to increase towards one person running in office and it could be where that person is not favorited by the older generation. Adults on the other hand are from an older generation who has deeper knowledge of politics. The word freedom for adults politically could mean that they can vote for who they want to because they are free to do so. Having two generations of people and different races politically can cause problems with the freedom to vote. Also, African Americans have a different view on freedom politically. African Americans can have very much the same view of an adult as well as having their own independent view. In this case politically the word freedom means anyone can have the right to vote and have free speech. Religious beliefs can often affect the word freedom as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
