The Importance Of The Voting Process In The United States
According to a CNN article of November 2016, about 55% of voting age citizens cast ballots this
year (Wallace). In other words, it means that only one voting age citizen out of two vote at the last
general presidential election. Abraham Lincoln described democracy as the Government of the
people, by the people, for the people. How can the people express it s legitimate power if
absenteeism is the rule?
In our Public Service Announcement, we are going to inform people about the voting process and
invite them to vote. We would like to emphasize the importance of the electionprocess by showing
to the public that it is the expression of their political power. Furthermore, we want to explain that
voting is more a citizen act than a political one that can affect everyone of us. Of course, we re not
going to talk about any opinions or political parties, but we want to focus on the voting process in
the U.S. and the importance a vote.
Normative/mainstream perspective: According to Brookshire (2016) in Science News for
Students, there are four main reasons why people choose not to vote. These reasons are the
registration process, lack of higher education, the two party system, and voter apathy (Brookshire,
2016) and unclear voting restrictions. First, the registration process takes a bit of work here in
America. In most other countries, voter registration comes automatically with citizenship, however
here we have to fill out paperwork prior to the actual act of voting

Prelude To The Battle Of Command Essay
Prelude to the Battle When the German Wehrmacht finished mopping up the remnants of the
French and British forces at Dunkirk in early 1940 sealing the fate of France for the next four
years, one could only imagine the overjoy among the heads of the German high command. Poland
was the first to fall, then northern Europe, and finally, France. The operations went so smoothly, it
took Adolf Hitlerand his generals less than a year to swipe across Europe from the border with
Russia to the east to the French beaches littered with rotting machines on the English Channel in the
west. Germany s redemption from her humiliation at the end of the Great War would almost be
complete but for the one enemy that was still standing Great Britain. Hitler... Show more content on

In fact the Fighter Command ended the battle with more aircraft in its inventory than it did at the
start of the battle due to the ingenuity and determination of the British aircraft industry. However
on the eve of the battle, the Fighter Command had a critical shortage of fighter aircraft. During the
earlier campaign in France, the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) sent to help the French against
an invading German army, mounted fierce but futile resistance. The air component of the BEF lost
a great number of aircraft, including half of its Hawker Hurricane fighters, which would make vital
contributions in the victory in the Battle of Britain. Air Chief Marshall Hugh Dowding, the
commander of the RAF Fighter Command, resisted the call for sending more aircraft into a
hopeless battle in France and pulled the remaining RAF fighters back home to protect Britain. His
decision later proved to be a key factor in the narrow margin by which the RAF won the Battle of
Britain. But for now, Dowding had only thirty six of the fifty three fighter squadrons, which needed
to protect Britain from a Nazi air invasion (Hough Richards,

Religion, Private Property, And Politics
Taylor O Sullivan
Religion, private property, and politics combined to benefit the common good
Religion and private property are thought to be exceedingly influential in regards to politics, and
many political theorists would agree with this statement. John Locke, an imperative leader in the
Enlightenment movement in Europe, thoroughly expresses the relationship between government,
religion, and private property in his writing, The Two Treatises of Government. Locke examines
his belief that all humans are free and equal by nature, and they have the the right to life, liberty,
and private property. Locke believes that man has the duty to preserve, of preservation, and means

Before examining the relationship between private property, religion, and politics, it is imperative
to recognize the historical context as to what was happening at the time when John Locke wrote The
Two Treatises of Government. Locke began to articulate his views, particularly in The Two
Treatise of Government, during the Glorious Revolution in late 17th century England. This
revolution involved the removal of James II, a Stuart, from England due to his absolutist and
catholic tendencies, because the majority of English people were Anglican at the time. Locke,
along with many other people, felt threatened when James II began to pack parliament with his
friends and supporters. This was a huge problem, because parliament is in charge with
representing the people, protecting their rights as English citizens, which includes freedom of
speech and property. Eventually, James II left England for France in exile, and King William
and Queen Mary became the new leaders. They signed the English Bill of Rights to protect
certain civil liberties, and in terms of property, the Bill of Rights states that taxes cannot be levied
without consent from Parliament. Taxes can be a direct threat to someone s property; if an
individual cannot afford to pay their taxes, they will lose their property. In sum, John Locke writes
The Two Treatises of Government the exact same year as the Glorious Revolution, to express why
James II was

Five Forces Analysis For Trader Joe s
Introduction: Trader Joe s is a neighborhood grocery store chain which was founded by Joe
Coulombe in 1967. It started as one store in California in 1967 and has grown to be 414 stores in
38 states as of July, 2013. As of 1979, It is privately held by German grocer Theo Albrecht, owner
of Aldi North. Consumer Reports ranked Trader Joes the second best supermarketin the US in 2012.
Industry:
Grocery industry is a highly competitive market with thin profit margins. Super markets are
dominant players in the grocery industry. They use grocery offerings to drive traffic to their
higher profit margin retail items. With its operations efficiency, Walmart, the largest grocery
retailer has been able to offer significant price drops. This also forces other grocery stores to drop
prices which keeps the profit margin thin. Even with all the advantages of operational efficiency
and economies of scale, Walmart s share in grocery sales was down at 51% in 2011.
Industry Analysis:
Trader Joe s occupies a niche position in the grocery market by providing natural, organic and
eclectic selection of wines, frozen food, prepared food and groceries at everyday low prices. They
have a small area format with limited products which has put them in the top rank for sales per
square feet.

How Does Vera In The Odd Couple Play
Rajaa Dawood
Voice and Diction Class
Critique Questions For The Odd Couple
1.)After watching The Odd Couple I was astonished by how outstanding the actors were. I was
instantly drawn to the show and loved every act of it. Personally, I liked Vera s performance
who is played by Shakiba Shadman and Manolo Costazuela who is played by Adam Mercado.
They were very entertaining and they portrayed their role very well. Vera is basically a girl who
is not very intelligent and she is enthusiastic. Manolo Costazuela is a Spanish man who lives with
his brother and he wants to find himself a new girlfriend. Manolo s character is very hard to play
because he has a Spanish accent which makes it difficult. However, Adam Mercado played the
character well by doing the Spanish accent and being humorous. On the other hand, Shakiba
Shadman played Vera really well because it is extremely tough to play a foolish character.
Shakima Shadman portrayed Vera well and made her likeable rather than annoying. They both were
very good actors and they did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It put me right in the mood and I felt like I was watching a sitcom such as That 70s Show.
Whenever they switched scenes, they d turn off the lights and the set management will come
out and set the next scene while they played funny acts on the small tv. The lightening was good
and the sound was great as well. The costumes were ideal for the 90s and the set design caught
my attention the moment I walked in. For example, the high waisted pants and the old fashioned
dresses that Florence wore were specifically designed in the 90s. The whole stage design
reminded me of a 90s show that I used to watch with my family. Since I was sitting in the front
row whenever the actors threw something it always came by my feet and they would pick it up
and apologize. This actually made me laugh and it made me feel like I was involved in the

Paul Fleischman s When This Cruel War Is Over
Themes are universal and can be shared within multiple items, text, motivation, etc. In the
historical novel, Bull Run, by Paul Fleischman, the Union song, When This Cruel War Is Over,
by Charles Carroll Sawyer, and the Confederate Song, God Save The South, by Earnest Halpin
and Charles W.A. Ellerbrock all share a common theme. War can inflict many different emotions
when thinking about war or being directly involved in a war. It doesn t matter if the emotions or
shared within a society or only kept to themselves, people still experience this. When war is
present in one s mind, sadness can be one of the first emotion that can be felt. In Bull Run, two
characters can easily show this to us. Lily Malloy, a Minnesota girl whose brother ran away to join
the Civil War and Colonel Oliver... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this in mind, a not so shared emotion when it comes to war is pride. People often associate
bad emotions like anger and hate with wars, but there can be some good emotions like happy or
hope. Pride is can be positive and negative. Anyways, Bull Run illustrates the fact that war can be
associated with war. In Flora Wheelworth s chapter, her daughter Susannah sent of her husband
by yelling (Fleschman 10), Do try not to soil the coat! In this phrase, there was no signs of worry.
Instead, she was proud that her husband was fighting in the war because she believed that her
husband will win. Addition to this, in A.B. Tilbury s chapters, there was a chapter where A.B.
Tilbury s regiment was slacking off and not taking anything seriously. Some soldiers in his regiment
were chasing chickens! When someone has a lot of pride, they tend to underestimate their enemy
and act over confident like A.B. s regiment right now. When there is too much pride, this emotion
turns into a bad thing like this case, but when there is the right amount of pride, people can go

Analysis Of The Thinking Out Loud Video
After watching the three videos, I had a very differing opinions about all of them. The one that
stuck out to me the most, and certainly not in a good way, was the Thinking Out Loud video.
Obviously, the interpreter was not qualified to be doing that type of work. After watching the
video, the first time with the sound on, I watched it again with the sound off to see if I could
understand her signing. Unfortunately, I did not understand what she was saying. In terms of
ethical considerations, or in this case lack thereof, there is absolutely no regard toward assuring
equal access to her consumers. I do not recall her even completing one full sentence or thought
when I was watching with the sound off and no captions. I did notice that the... Show more content

in the Boston Blizzard video she had to read the captions for the whole first part of the video since
the interpreter was not shown until later. Even when the interpreter was being shown, Alyssa said it
was difficult to see her. She said that in emergency situations it is absolutely important for
interpreters to be shown in focus, or at least on the side of the screen in a separate bubble. Alyssa
did say that she appreciated the first and the last videos much more than she appreciated the
middle one. Along with interviewing a Deaf Individual, I also spoke with (retired) certified
interpreter Debbie Drobney. Debbie had very few, if any, positive things to say about the second

Impact Of Globalization On The Airline Industry
Introduction
1 This essay will assess how globalisation has impacted on the airline industry using British Airways
as an example to illustrate this change had on the industry as a whole. This essay will attempt to
show how the airline industry and British Airways in particular coped with thesee change and how
neoliberalism thinking allowed and supported this fundamental change to happen.
Critical analysis of external and internal environment using strategy tools has also been considered.
This essay will outline the fundementals of globalism as well as Neoliberalism, the political
thinking behind it. The research includes a review of academic books, journals, articles and
websites. It also covers the critical account of globalization on British Airways stating its strengths
and weaknesses . The Airline industry is a large and constantly growing industry. It facilitates
economic growth, international investment and world trade and is therefore central to other
industries as well for globalisation. There are various forces which lead to globalisation in airline
industry. Key drivers of change are forces likely to affect the structure of an industry; sector or
market. (1).

Chile s Economic Impact On The Philippines Essay
Chile s economy is based strongly on the importance of the tertiary sector because of the services
they offer. Before Chile realized the importance of their services, Chile was very restricted. When
Chile realized that they had a lot to offer, such as aeronautical services, retail stores, construction
services, education, health, and tourism. Tourism is a big part of what brings in Chiles income.
Chile has also been working hard to get other companies to go to Chile and start their industries.
Chile has become a very stable and prosperous nation because of its many attributes.
Because of Chile s growing environment, tourism has gone up; therefore Chile has put more
importance on the Service sector (Tertiary Sector).

Discrimination In The Tall Woman And Her Short Husband
Discrimination is a lasting theme of the society, no matter in what culture, at what time period and
in what form. Most discrimination comes from the difference in appearance. In other words, on
people s looks. However, though seems unusual, the love between the discriminated also exists.
Many stories from different culture have a theme on the unusual yet simple love. The story The
Tall Woman and her Short Husband talks about a weird couple, a tall woman and a short man, who
are not welcomed by their neighbors. The Cultural Revolution came and the husband was

The Excavation and Discovery of Tutankhamun s Tomb Essay
The excavation and discovery of Tutankhamun s tomb was as a result of the efforts of the
Archaeologist Howard Carter and his team. Carter s discovery of the tomb came by finding steps to
the burial near the entrance to the tomb Ramses VI. The subsequent excavated of the site by Carter
and his team revealed the greatest ever treasure found from an Egyptian tomb and showed the
existence of Tutankhamun. Carter s methodology for the excavation was that of maintaining records
for each artefact and that every artefact that was brought out of the tomb was preserved
appropriately. The discovery and excavation of the tomb was a long and complex process but with

Atrial Septal Defect
What is an Atrial Septal Defect?
Atrial Septal Defect (or ASP for short and also known as Hole in the Heart ) is one of the many
heart defects where there is a hole in the dividing wall between the atria. This syndrome occurs
at birth. Minor cases of ASD are easy to treat. In most cases, the hole repairs by itself so you
would not notice that you even had such a defect. In severe cases , surgery has to follow, if not, it
can be fatal. I will be explaining how ASD affects the circulatory system.
Effects of Atrial Septal Disorder
As there is a hole in the wall separating the atria, the oxygenated blood from the left atrium enters
the right atrium instead of the aorta. The oxygenated blood that entered the right atrium mixes with

Daryl Bem Self Perception Theory
In 1967, Daryl Bem, a social psychologist, created a theory that was drawn from the impression
formation and attribution theories and developed the theory of self perception. Self perception is
defined as follows, Self perception theory relies on situational and dispositional attributions similar
to attribution theory (Frymier207). Bem created this theory to help understand one s understanding
their own behavior through the same attributions that a person uses to understand someone else s
behavior.
Within self perception theory, the person observes themselves in the same manner in which they
observe others and use that process to acknowledge our own behaviors or ideas of ourselves. Bem
suggest that there are two postulates that are associated with self perception theory. The first is that
individuals get to know themselves through the observation of their own behaviors or situations in
which certain behaviors occur. Second is that external cues have little affect and the individual is in
the same position as an outside observer. An example of this would be the foot in the door effect.
Self perception theory from a psychological stand point is that a person s feelings and attitudes
come from their external behaviors. Similarly, with self perception theory, persuasion involves
person acting and then figuring out their behavior or attitudes (Frymier207).

Feminist Argumentative Analysis
Feminism is generally understood as a sociopolitical movement promoting the advancement of
women, best understood with the historical context of centuries of institutionalized misogyny,
primarily in European societies and societies that were colonized by Europe. Per the New World
Encyclopedia online, the term was first used in reference to this sociopolitical movement in the
1890s and, according to Google Trends, it has been increasingly prevalent in web searches since
approximately 2011. The term feminismoften is used to refer to many different movements,
including socialist feminism, radical feminism, moderate feminism, and liberal feminism, leading
to quite a bit of confusion over what identifying as a feminist or supporting feminism really... Show

By avoiding defining women as the opposite of men or just not men , this argument is resolved.
Feminism is, however, a politically charged term, and many people shy away because opponents of
feminism have created negative stereotypes about feminists. One way to avoid this, as proposed by
bell hooks, is to use phrases like I advocate feminism rather than I am a feminist (55). This
emphasizes that commitment to feminism is an act of will and avoids the speaker being plugged
into preconceived notions of identity, role, or behavior (55). By simply advocating for feminism
rather than using it as an identity, many of these negative stereotypes can be avoided. One highly
justified argument against continuing to use the term feminism is its appropriation by trans
exclusionary radical feminists, who consistently disrespect trans identities and believe trans people
should not be included in feminism, and sex worker exclusionary radical feminists, who believe
that sex workers do not deserve the protection of the feminist movement. Along these lines, some
cornerstones of feminism, like the vagina monologues and some theory from second wave
feminism, are highly problematic and do not reflect the current movement. To resolve that, we
simply disconnect mainstream feminism from those rhetorics. A final argument is that using the
term feminism ignores the oppression that some men face as a direct result of misogynist rhetoric
that feminism seeks to end. The easiest way to resolve this would be to let men know that they are
welcome in feminism and that many men s rights issues are actually feminist issues,

The General Function Of A Female Slave
A slave was then basically anyone who was not white, but color was forced to have a master in
which all of the commands that came out of their mouths definitely would have to be done by a
slave. Many times they were treated badly and none of the slaves had a say in anything that they
would do. Slaves had no rights at all and they were considered basically nothing or a piece of
property; a property in which masters could share and buy slaves for themselves. White people
who could afford to buy a slave would. Slaves were mainly used for manual labor. The general
function of a female slave was mainly to do chores, while men, on the other hand grew crops and
worked in many other different things that involved a men s job .
As a young girl who became a slave Biddy Mason can certainly relate to the definition of slave. At
a young age for a long time Biddy was considered as a Black slave woman who was illiterate. In
other words she could not read or write. She worked as a nurse and a midwife and traveled from
Mississippi to California to be able to become a successful businesswoman and a generous
contributor to social causes. Bridgett Biddy Mason was born a slave, August 15, 1818. No one

Georgia, while others predict more likely she may have been born in Mississippi. Biddy was

Conversion Therapy And Its Effects On The Lgbtq Community
About 30 years ago, homosexuality was declassified as a mental disorder. It would be assumed that
treatments for to change homosexuality would end. However, conversion therapy is still being
used today, even our future Vice President, Mike Pence, believes in such treatment. That alone is a
huge threat to people of the LGBTQ+ community.
Conversion therapy is affecting the LGBTQ+ community greatly. Conversion therapy can be
defined as psychological interventions, from behavioral methods to psychoanalytic approaches to
change a person s sexuality or gender identity (Hadelman, pg. 202, 2002). This treatment has been
proven to not work as well as having harmful implications to LGBTQ+ people. In 1960, the

Deflection Of Cantilever Beam Lab Report
INTRODUCTION: The study of large deflection of cantilever beam comes from theory of
elasticity. Theory of elasticity state that solid material will deform under the application of an
external force it will again regain their original position when external force is removed is referred
to as elasticity . We took beammade of nickel titanium alloy which regain their original shape
after removing external force act on the beam. It s a prismatic circular cross section beam. Initial
shape and curvature of nickel titanium alloy depend upon its length and self weight of the beam
large deflection of combined loading was proposed by kyongoo lee [1] finding deflection of non
linear elastic cantilever beam and solved governing equation using numerical integration of one
parameter shooting method. Bishop and drucker [2] investigate large deflection of cantilever beam

modulus of elasticity(E) which shows good spring back behavior which regain its original shape

Step 7: Make a solid bag You will need a PVA solid bag for this step I personally like the Korda
Solid Bags (small). Firstly add the hooklink into the bag and hook it to the bottom. Make sure
the hair is not tangled then start adding your pellets. Fill up half the bag with pellets then
squeeze the bag and knock it gently on a side of a bucket so the pellets get into every little gap.
Now add the lead into the bag and lightly fill the bag a little more pellets up to Вѕ full but make
sure you don t fill it up to much. Twist the bag and knock it again to make it solid then lick the
twisted area. If you re casting the bag at a long distance you can make it even more aerodynamic
by folding back the corners and securing them with a little saliva. Conclusion So there you go
you have now learnt an awesomely effective Sneaky rig that catches big carp. Hope you ve learnt

Sea Horse Adaptation
An Adaptation on Sea Horses Over the years sea horses have adapted to their environments very
well so far. They re good at catching their food and keeping quiet while doing it. Especially with
their camouflage skills. All they have to do is stay still, stay in camouflage, wait for the bait,
and then jump out and take it. So, sea horses have adapted quite well. One way that sea horses
have been able to adapt is their hard scales. Their scales keep them protected from hard hits and of
course almost getting a big bite taken out of them. If something does try to take a bite it won t do
anything because of how non tender they are. It states in paragraph 4, sentence 3, that, This makes
them less than tender snacks for most predators.

Human Waste And Body Waste
1. Introduction
As has been asserted in a lot of research, how to handle human waste could be a major issue.
Human waste including food waste and body waste. The human body waste will be focused in
this report. According to GENECO, there are 75 million m3 of human sewage have been
creating every year in Bristol. The human body waste could contaminate water system and lead
disease if they haven t been treat appropriately. As Tearfund and WaterAid(2002) has pointed out,
four out of ten people, 2.4 billion, are suffering from the disease caused by the issue of poor
sanitation. Therefore, action on sanitation and re think how to use the human body waste will
make work more effective. In order to address the research question is it possible that human body
waste could be use as renewable energy , the technology of composting human body waste will be
investigated, data and case study will be analyzed in terms of energy consumption, water use and
air pollution, finally, how to make human body waste as a useful substance and achieve sustainable
lifestyle will be answer.

Importance Of Community Service In Education
This semester I engaged in many different community service and civic engagement activities.
The activity that I did the most frequently would be volunteering in a special needs class room at
Vandever Elementary in Broken Arrow. I went to Broken Arrow Public School and actually know
that teacher that I volunteering with from when I used to peer tutor when I was younger. I peer
tutored from 3rd grade through 10th grade, switching between three main classrooms. It was so
nice to see one of the teachers that I looked up so much to when I was younger and who instilled in
me the joys of teaching. Volunteering in her classroom was very fun and nostalgic, but I do think
that she could have been more proactive with her time managementskills. While volunteering in
the classroom, I became very familiar with the classroom s daily schedule and their routines. I
found that there was quite a bit of time wasted in the afternoon. I was not entirely sure if maybe
this had to do with her students and their limits because most of them are only a half day or if it
was poor time management. Although, I think the schedule could easily be accommodated to
include more instructional time if the students in the classroom were able to adjust to that. In the
afternoon they spend a majority of their instructional time watching Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig, or
Bookflix. I feel like if they divided their time as well they did in the morning they could get in a lot
more instructional time. In the mornings

Evaluating The Merits And Demerits Of Fixed And Floating...
Evaluate the merits and demerits of fixed and floating exchange rate regimes. Provide examples
to support your arguments. I. Intro Floating exchange rates and fixed exchange rates each
provide distinct advantages and disadvantages for a given regime. In any given state of the global
economy, one given country may be better suited for one system. But there are a number of
factors that influence this, and there is therefore no universal correct system for all international
economies. I will discuss the merits and demerits of a floating exchange rate, providing the
examples of the US Government response to the 2008 financial crisis and the excessive
speculation that led to the 1929 stock market crash. These examples will illustrate a time when the
US economy benefitted due to a floating exchange rate and a time when the US economy suffered
due to a floating exchange rate. I will then provide a similar analysis for the fixed exchange rate
using the same example of the dangers of speculation regarding the 1929 financial crash and the
emerging market crisis of Argentina in 2001. As mentioned before, there is no universal solution to
the monetary policy governing exchange rates. A general rule, however, is that floating exchange
rates provide a country with more adaptability and independence in fluctuating international
economic circumstances. But they can lead to instability, needlessly expansionary policy and
excessive speculation. Fixed exchange rates, in contrast, are

Essay On American Economic Development
On June 29, 1956, the Federal Aid Highway Act was passed allowing for the construction of the
Interstate Highway System. These limited access highways would open the door for economic
development across the country with their higher speeds and consistent route across state lines. In
1960, after the development of the interstates had yielded early promising economic results, a group
of governors in Appalachia met with Presidential Candidate John F. Kennedyto discuss the needs of
their impoverished people. The poverty of the Appalachian region was a dark spot on a nation that
was experiencing so much success in the post World War II era. After the lack of success of an

The first efforts to create a national highway network was started by the American Association
of State Highway Officials in 1914, founded by Logan Waller Page, with public support of The
Good Roads Movement, led by John Hollis Bankhead. Along with avid motorist President
Woodrow Wilson, the men worked to establish state sponsored highway agencies to improve the
transportation network across the country to keep pace with the growing popularity of the
automobile. With the help of these men and their enthusiasm for well developed highways in
America, the Federal Aid Road Act of 1916 (FARA 1916) was passed on July 11 providing the
first federal funds towards highway construction projects. The stated aim of the FARA 1916 was
the improvement of postal roads to appeal to the rural population, who had initially seen this as a
project with the wealthy urbanites in mind. In the final version of the approved bill, there were
also provisions added to exclude the use of this federal funding within city limits. This was done to
ensure the funding would go towards improving access to the most isolated locations with
agriculture industries in mind. Additionally, there was heavy federal oversight of the state projects
utilizing these funds. All highway improvements were subject to final approval by the Secretary of
Agriculture. While these provisions would favor

Village Of Forest Park, Illinois
Introduction
When discussing microeconomics, there are several market structures that may have an impact the
economy in the Village of Forest Park, Illinois. These market structures including perfect
competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly have many characteristics and
have an impact on the market as a whole. There are many barriers to entry, competitive pressure and
price elasticity that also impact the economic growth of the village. Other areas that affect the
village s economy include governmental roles and international trade.
Two Characteristics of the Four Market Structures
The major market structures that impact our current economy are perfect competition, monopolistic
competition, oligopoly, and monopoly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A monopolistic competition describes a common market structure in which firms have many
competitors or sellers, but each one sells a vaguely distinctive product or service. One of this
market structure s characteristics is that each individual firm makes independent decisions about
price and output, based on its product, its market, and its costs of production (Economics Online,
2015). Another characteristic is there is freedom to enter or leave the market, since there are no
major barriers to entry or exit. The opposite of this market structure is an oligopoly. Oligopoly
means few sellers. Oligopoly is the market structure in which there are only a few firms or a few
firms dominate the market (Amacher Pate, 2013). In an oligopolistic market, each seller supplies a
large portion of all the products sold in the marketplace. In addition, because the cost of starting a
business in an oligopolistic industry is usually high, the number of firms entering it is low.
Local Market Example
In the Village of Forest Park, the local electric company, ComEd, has a monopoly over the energy
market. While the village residents are able to chose what type of energy they use, whether its
coal or wind, each of the energy providers sell their energy to ComEd who then sets the price for
its consumers. There are no other energy companies or providers in the city, each person must use

Analysis Of The Great Migration Of 1843
In 1843, farmers from Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio, who were not satisfied by the
future their homes could offer them, decided to leave on a 2000 mile journey to Oregon in hope
of finding better lives . In 1845, a few years after The Great Migration of 1843 , fur trapper and
guide Stephen Meek, mislead a group of emigrants following the Oregon trail from Missouri to
the Willamette Valley, to a shortcut that put many of their lives at stake. Based on this true story,
Kelly Reichardt s Meek s Cutoff (2010) uses its mise en scГЁne, cinematography and other
formal properties to generate meaning about themes represented in this event such as trust,
survival, and women s role in a patriarchal society. The demonstration of this type of society is
shown in the film by the use of the women s point of view, which will be analysed using a simple
chosen excerpt. In the selected scene, the women s muteness and passiveness can be clearly
identified by multiple elements of formal features such as the point of view shot and edit of sound.
One of the most obvious elements supporting this view is the manipulation of the loudness of
sound. In the 9th shot, William, Thomas and Solomon walk towards Stephen as the camera stays
positioned approximately where Emily and Glory are standing, thus creating a mobile long shot of
the men as they are walking away from the women. As the camera adopts, the women s point of
view shot, the sound also adopts their point of audition. The importance

Figurative Language In The Bell Jar
Human Isolation
As the author of the book The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath s writing can be associated with her real life
struggles. Living as a woman in the 50 s, Sylvia s realities helped her paint a truthful picture of
what it was like to be a woman with depression during this time. Although her openness to express
her real life struggle through text was remarkable, this topic of mental health and depression was
unheard of at the time. Esther Greenwood, the main focus throughout The Bell Jar, resembled the
life of Plath for her unsteady and rebellious characteristics that often break the social conceptions
of what it meant to be a woman with depression. On page 96, Esther stands on top of a mountain
with a colorful stream of consciousness that is detailed and fervent as she considers skiing down
the mountain. Plath uses imagery and figurative language to convey her feelings of being out of
control and absolutely isolated, revealing how women during this time period were forced to keep
their true thoughts and emotions to themselves regardless of their mental condition. In this
passage, Plath describes Buddy using two different similes, showing how Esther s last resort
disappears in front of her, leaving her completely alone. As she stands atop the mountain, it seems
as if her vision becomes progressively blurred. As the other skiers around her become invisible, she
noticed the actions Buddy takes in order to grab her attention. His arms

Exploring Social Patterns in the Renaissance Through Fashion
Exploring Social Patterns in the Renaissance Through Fashion
Fashion reflects the attitudes of a society more than any other art form. Like art, fashion is a
material record of the ideals that swayed the nations at the time of their creation. Through
examining the styles, and tastes of a particular era, we can realize where the interests and priorities
of a time lie. As Frank Parsons wrote in his 1920 study, The Psychology of Dress, There is surly
no better field in which to trace the devious paths of human thought than in that of clothes, where
man has ever given free play to self expression, in a way which, thought not always a credit to his
intelligence, is yet quite true to his innermost self, whether he will acknowledge it or ... Show more

Clothing expression in medieval Europe, like all other forms of artistic expression at this time,
found it s biggest outlet in the ecclesiastical field, as this was where all the money was to be
found. The churches employed all the best builders and craftsmen in creating their great
cathedrals, and art works. In clothing, the church dictated what sorts of materials were made,
and brought into the area, what colors were in use, and what styles were used, influencing the
secular as well as ecclesiastical dress. In the feudal system only great Barons and their families
wore fine cloths, as clothing was a symbol of rank and importance. Each family made their own
clothes, so fashion was very individualistic in style, and each family had their own characteristics.
With an increase of wealth in the area, and the beginning of the crusades, new elaborate styles were
introduced into the scene. Fashions became strange, and grotesque in nature reflecting the constant
struggles and wars of the time, as fantasy and the grotesque generally influence social costumes
accompanying times of war. Women in their headgear actually wore huge horns, like an ox, that
towered above them and supported a veil, and men s shoes were peaked and extended six inches in
front of them for common men, and a foot for gentlemen, and two feet for noblemen.
The church frowned on the extreme finery, painted faces, and low cut dresses of the women. But as

circumstances that prompted people to leave home and drew them to new societies (Concepts).
People from all over the world have mostly immigrated and migrated within the U.S. for a major

Ireland was going through difficult political and economic turmoil in their home country that
people began to look for a way out desperately in order to survive. Many chose to move to the
U.S. in search of labor and to provide for their families, but their migration was seen as exile and
banishment rather than a quest of opportunity like other immigrants (Kenny 124). As the Irish
began to settle in the U.S., they tended to go to cities as they were young and could find work in
urban cities easier. However, they noticed that the further west they went, the more success they

the Irish begin to find work, but Irish female immigrants began to work as domestics, filling 80

Robbins, Fisher v. University of Texas that the decision made in these cases can have an impact on
the lives of all or many citizens that generally ignore their outcomes holding no regard for the
standings of the supreme court. Let us start with Brown v. Buhman as the first example for why
the average citizen should care about the supreme court. This case covers an issue with the
Brown family a group of polygamists regarding a statute in Utah. This case brings up a few
important things to be recognized. Primarily the case regards standing and mootness of a case,
these are both important aspects of law to understand. For a case to continue and take place it
has to be relevant and there has to be a reason for the case to be brought up. In the case of Brown
v. Buman if part of the statute was deemed unconstitutional then the case would no longer be
needed as it would solve the issue. Now although most people may feel that on the outside an
understanding of this case is irrelevant to them as it handles a case of polygamy it holds many
important considerations. One of which is free exercise

Wheeling Symphony Orchestra
I recently attended the opening night of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra at the Capitol Theatre
in downtown Wheeling. The experience of seeing a live orchestra for the first time was very
unique and pleasant to me. The feel and atmosphere was much different from what you would
experience at a country or hip hop concert. The venue was very quiet and respectful, no one was
talking or playing around on their cell phones. Whereas my prior concert experiences had consisted
of musicians aiming to be as loud and energetic as possible to invoke excitement in the audience,
the orchestraput out a different feel for the audience. The orchestra aimed to invoke and emotional
and appreciative response from the audience. The orchestra opened with Rossini s La Gazza Ladra
Overture. This piece was definitely a great opening segment because it builds suspense and... Show

She was very talented, and the dress made her stand out from the rest of the orchestra. She was
very emotional as she played. Due to the nature of her piece, it almost felt as if she were leading
and the orchestra was following behind her. This piece had only a very small brass section and no
percussion instruments were played to the best of my memory. I think I enjoyed this piece the
most because I was able to focus on the cellist and really see just how much passion she had
through the way she played each line. Following a short intermission, the whole orchestra was
present for Shostakovich s Fifth Symphony. This symphony was very long compared to the music I
am accustomed to. The orchestra took breaks every once in awhile for a few short seconds which
I did not expect. The symphony had a little bit of everything in terms of music and
instrumentation. Some parts were sad, some dramatic, and some energetic. At times, it almost felt
to me as if the music was telling a story. The ending was incredible; it was fast paced and full of

The Care Of A Patient
Within this case study I am going to use two of the Chapelhow et al. (2005) enablers to discuss
and reflect on the care of a patient I have been involved with on placement over a period of 5
weeks. Enablers are the essential and underpinning skills that come together to provide expert
professional practice (Chapelhow, C et al. 2005, p.2). These include; assessment, communication,
documentation, risk, professional decision making and managing uncertainty. The enablers work
together to provide a holistic approach to the care of patients in health care settings. I am going to
focus on and discuss two of the enablers, linking them both together, which will be assessment and
communication as I believe these two enablers can be related most to my patient. I have gained
full consent to use this lady as my patient in my care study. Consent is important as you must
always gain permission from the patient in regards to their care plan and keep them fully informed.
It is vital that the person consents before any treatment, care, examination or assessment (Brooker
et al., 2007, p.157). Confidentiality is a fundamental part of professional practice that protects
human rights (NMC, 2008). To maintain my patient s confidentiality throughout my care study I
am going to call her Annie. Annie is a 72 year old lady whose care I have been involved with on
placement. Annie s medical history included; previous left hip replacement, osteoporosis, high
blood pressure, high cholesterol and

Jimmy Kimmel Gender Analysis
Jimmy Kimmel is a comity television show that airs around 11pm on week nights in which the
host, Jimmy Kimmel, interviews famous celebrities and preforms comity skits. One such skit
that was recorded during the 11th season included a short interview between Jimmy and
children. In which the children were all asked the question, What s the difference between a boy
and a girl? (Kimmel, 2013). The responses ranged from Boys like doing rough stuff and girls like
doing kind and soft stuff... to ...if they don t have an Adam s apple then it s a girl, but if they do
then it s a boy... to Girls like pink and boys don t (Kimmel, 2013). All responses where centered
around two main traits, physical appearance and gender stereotypes. The physical appearances
discussed were the adams apple being more prominent in boys, differing reproductive organs,
and boys have thicker hair then girls. While the gender stereotypes where boys are rough, girls are
gentle, boys wear a yarmulkes while girls don t, girls like pink and boys don t, girls like to shop

Sexual differences are the biological differences between males and females in organs, and
hormones based off of chromosomal arrangement (Berger, 2016, p.213). This line of reasoning
is reflected in the more basic and straight forward differences between genders. The gender
stereotypes that others referred to indicates gender differences. Gender differences being the
differing clothes, behaviors, and actions of males and females or the cultural roles that are put onto
a particular gender (Berger, 2016, p.213). By the age of 2 most children will except that they are

The Garden Of Forking Paths, By Jorge Luis Borges
After reading the lecture and the short stores by Jorge Luis Borges, one can able to conclude that
we are surrounded by criminal activities. In every culture, region or country there are some sort of
criminal activities more over the same type of crimes that occurs. In Latin America the crime rates
were significantly high in the past and still continues in the 21st century. Each of these stories
written by the author Jorge Luis Borges carries some kind of connection in Latin America.
After reading the short story, The Garden of Forking Paths , we learn that Yu Tsun is a secret spy
for the German army. More importantly, it was relieved that Yu Tsun was willing to shoot his
friend Doctor Albert in order to complete his mission. This was ... Show more content on

I can also say that this story can connect with most detectives regardless of culture or location. The
scenarios in which was described in the short story can connect to individuals who are investigators
who then eventually becomes the victims of their own work. For example, I ve heard factual
information where a detective has been killed by the perpetrator for investigating a crime. I believe
that this story deals with revenge of an officer. The perpetrator Scharlach wanted to get revenge for
his brother who was arrested by the detective and then later died in prison. From that, I was able to
form another conclusion. In Latin America, gang members usually look out for each other. With
that said, when one is hurt, killed, died, revenge sets into place.
After reading the short story, Borges and I , I was able to interpret a theme of identity. The plot
surprise is that the narrator discusses himself as if he is two separate persons: I and The other
one, the one called Borges. This can possible relates to Latin America violence to those who
commits crime. They can either defined themselves as two different persons for the purpose of self

Methods And Results Of Local Government s Performance...
RESEARCH METHOD
Approach.
This chapter discusses the methodology of the thesis. As mentioned, this thesis mainly uses
qualitative data collected via literature and document review, and semi structured interviews to
answer the research questions. This is because the qualitative approach is more suitable to provide
a great deal of descriptive details...emphasizes on process...[and] is concerned with explanations
(Bryman, 2004, pp. 280 281), which is essential to examine the process and results of local
government s performance measurement.
Focus and Locus.
This research is focused on answering and identifying the problems involved in the research
questions. The relationship between the research questions and supporting methods, which are later
explained in detail, is illustrated as follows:
Indonesia is currently a democratic country with three tiers of government: central government;
provincial government; and local government. At the lower level, there are 34 provinces and 508
(as of 2014) local governments. There are two types of local government across Indonesia: 1)
Kabupaten (district), and 2) Kota (city). In the past (before Reformasi), provincial and local
governments were simply an extension of the central government at the regional and local level.
Government policies and programs were determined by central government. As the result, the
Gubernur (Head of Province) and the Bupati/Walikota (Head of Kabupaten/Kota), directly
appointed by the president, were

Science and Technology has played a huge role in upgrading human life. Although, some say
that Science and poetry are like two sides of a coin but as a matter of fact these two are related.
For instance, the poem, Love is Chaos by Prasanta shows the perfect relation between the two.

is the language by which writers express their feelings, thoughts and views. There are many
forms of poetry like Haiku, Acrostic, Concrete, Free Verse and Rhyming. There is a difference
between traditional and modern poetry. Traditional poetry has a specific format like Sonnets
and follows rhyme scheme. On the other hand, modern poetry is more free verse and has no
defined rhyme scheme and format. Hafeez Jalandhari was a Pakistani writer, poet and the
composer of the National Anthem of Pakistan. He was born in India on January 14, 1990. After

Cause Of Homelessness In America
There are anywhere from 500,000 to 2.8 million homeless youth in the United States alone. (
Homelessness and Runaway ). There are different reasons as to why they re without a home
range drastically from a desire for freedom to a severe family conflict that has forced them out of
their homes. There have been countless stories about ragged boys and girls in the United States
struggling to survive during the changing seasons, using tunnels and bridges as their homes,
cardboard as their beds, and forming new families on the streets to remain sane. Homeless youth
can be defined as 12 to twenty year olds who are without familysupport and who are living in
unstable circumstances without a secure home. ( Homelessness) The origin of homelessness is
traced back all the way to colonial America. In the early times of America, the homeless were
referred to as vagrants or sturdy beggars . Just like today, many were forced to become homeless
due to negative factors in their homes or general lives. Specifically, wars had a huge influence
on the amount of homeless in early America. Also, The economic uncertainties of life in early
America left many people in the lower class without a place to live. ( Homelessness ). Today
there are similar reasons as to why people are homeless, but new reasons have also arose.
Homelessness is a complicated issue in today s society that has many contributing factors that not
everyone is aware of. Currently, the youth of today s world are more at

Death Is Not Bad For Anyone
Death is not Bad for Anyone
Epicurus writes, the argument that death is nothing to us, because when we exist, death is not yet
present, and when death comes, we no longer exist. There are three reasonable previews to support
his view, including: something is bad for someone as long as it must be bad for that person at
specific time; Death cannot be bad for someone when they are dead because the person does not
exist at that time; Death cannot be bad for someone before death actually come. Among these
three reasonable previews, Epicurus draw his conclusion that because there is no time at which
death is bad for someone, so death is not bad for anyone. I m agree with that Death is not bad for
anyone , because death can t affect us since we are died. Although the objection is reasonable, I
still think the Epicurus s response is stronger. The objection is that death can be bad because it
is a deprivation of the good things in life. Our life is full of good things. We have time that we
stay with our parents or hang out with our friends; we have time that we do our hobby and go
traveling to see the world; we have time that we go shopping and eat delicious foods; though
there are still sometimes bad things happens, it emphasis happiness in our life and make our life
colorful. However, if we died, we no longer have time to enjoy it. All the happy moments, money,
gorgeous house, people we loves, things we have experienced and not experienced disappear since
we are died. For

Porcelain And Pink Character Analysis
In the extract of the play Porcelain and Pink by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the characters Lois and Julie s
individual personalities can be uncovered. One can do this through analysation of conversation
through turn taking, cooperative principles, implicature and politeness strategies. We shall discuss
these four aspects in detail.
The individual personalities of the characters can be explored by investigating the turn taking in
this dialogue. To begin with, we will look at Lois. From line one to three, this character shows that
she is to the point and very direct. One can see this through the conversation analysed during turn
taking, Lois plainly states she has a date, and then tells Julie that is none of her business (lines 1
and 3). She does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are first introduced to implicature in the first line of the extract from Lois, who is trying to
implicitly get Julie out of the bathroom. To argue this claim we will look at lines one to four
where Lois expresses that she has a date with Julie, but is implying that she would like Julie to
hurry up because of this reason. Julie, wanting to know more about this date and ignoring the
fact that she knows she needs to hurry up, explicitly asks about it. This exposes the girls unlike
makeup, Lois is trying to suggest a reason to Julie to get out of the bathroom, which is a nicer
way of getting the message across instead of plainly asking her, which could be seen as rude.
Julie, however, is not moved by her inferred meaning, this shows her mischievous and meddlesome
side. (Levey et al. 2015. P

Blood Symptoms Of Amnesia
Amnesia refers to a large scale loss of memories that should not have been forgotten. They may
include important milestones in life, memorable events, key people in our lives, and vital facts we
have been told or taught (Nordqvist, 1). The chance of developing amnesia might increase if you ve
experienced brain surgery, head injury or trauma, stroke, alcohol abuse, or seizures. Amnesiacan be
classified into different types depending on which aspect of memoryis affected; this is often
determined by the areas in the brain that are damaged. Many kind of amnesia are associated with
damage to the hippocampusand related areas of the brain (Mastin, 4). Diagnosing the cause of
amnesia involves a range of tests including medical history, blood... Show more content on

Losing part of your life memories is a big change, it can make it hard for you to do the things
you used to do on a regular basis. In some cases people with this condition will never recover
from the memories they lost, taking them to the point where they have to create new memories
in their new life. To avoid further memory loss people with amnesia should avoid alcohol abuse
and have a proper diet. It is important for those people who are suffering from memory loss, to
have a doctor helping them through the process of recovering. It is hard to know if someone
will ever recover from their memory lost, in some cases people tend to remember some stuff but
not all. For those people who suffered from anterograde amnesia(which means they have no
capacity to make new memories, and may even have difficulty recalling events before the onset
memory) improvements can be made by repetition of tasks so they can develop a routine, which
lodges in their subconscious memory. For example, they can organise details on what tasks to do
and how to do them, just like we take notes in

  • 2. The Importance Of The Voting Process In The United States According to a CNN article of November 2016, about 55% of voting age citizens cast ballots this year (Wallace). In other words, it means that only one voting age citizen out of two vote at the last general presidential election. Abraham Lincoln described democracy as the Government of the people, by the people, for the people. How can the people express it s legitimate power if absenteeism is the rule? In our Public Service Announcement, we are going to inform people about the voting process and invite them to vote. We would like to emphasize the importance of the electionprocess by showing to the public that it is the expression of their political power. Furthermore, we want to explain that voting is more a citizen act than a political one that can affect everyone of us. Of course, we re not going to talk about any opinions or political parties, but we want to focus on the voting process in the U.S. and the importance a vote. Normative/mainstream perspective: According to Brookshire (2016) in Science News for Students, there are four main reasons why people choose not to vote. These reasons are the registration process, lack of higher education, the two party system, and voter apathy (Brookshire, 2016) and unclear voting restrictions. First, the registration process takes a bit of work here in America. Prelude To The Battle Of Command Essay Prelude to the Battle When the German Wehrmacht finished mopping up the remnants of the French and British forces at Dunkirk in early 1940 sealing the fate of France for the next four years, one could only imagine the overjoy among the heads of the German high command. Poland was the first to fall, then northern Europe, and finally, France. The operations went so smoothly, it took Adolf Hitlerand his generals less than a year to swipe across Europe from the border with Russia to the east to the French beaches littered with rotting machines on the English Channel in the west. In fact the Fighter Command ended the battle with more aircraft in its inventory than it did at the start of the battle due to the ingenuity and determination of the British aircraft industry. However on the eve of the battle, the Fighter Command had a critical shortage of fighter aircraft. During the earlier campaign in France, the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) sent to help the French against an invading German army, mounted fierce but futile resistance. The air component of the BEF lost a great number of aircraft, including half of its Hawker Hurricane fighters, which would make vital contributions in the victory in the Battle of Britain. Air Chief Marshall Hugh Dowding, the commander of the RAF Fighter Command, resisted the call for sending more aircraft into a hopeless battle in France and pulled the remaining RAF fighters back home to protect Britain. His decision later proved to be a key factor in the narrow margin by which the RAF won the Battle of Britain. But for now, Dowding had only thirty six of the fifty three fighter squadrons, which needed to protect Britain from a Nazi air invasion (Hough Richards, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before examining the relationship between private property, religion, and politics, it is imperative to recognize the historical context as to what was happening at the time when John Locke wrote The Two Treatises of Government. Locke began to articulate his views, particularly in The Two Treatise of Government, during the Glorious Revolution in late 17th century England. This revolution involved the removal of James II, a Stuart, from England due to his absolutist and catholic tendencies, because the majority of English people were Anglican at the time. Locke, along with many other people, felt threatened when James II began to pack parliament with his friends and supporters. This was a huge problem, because parliament is in charge with representing the people, protecting their rights as English citizens, which includes freedom of speech and property. Eventually, James II left England for France in exile, and King William and Queen Mary became the new leaders. They signed the English Bill of Rights to protect certain civil liberties, and in terms of property, the Bill of Rights states that taxes cannot be levied without consent from Parliament. Taxes can be a direct threat to someone s property; if an individual cannot afford to pay their taxes, they will lose their property. I was instantly drawn to the show and loved every act of it. Personally, I liked Vera s performance who is played by Shakiba Shadman and Manolo Costazuela who is played by Adam Mercado. They were very entertaining and they portrayed their role very well. Vera is basically a girl who is not very intelligent and she is enthusiastic. Manolo Costazuela is a Spanish man who lives with his brother and he wants to find himself a new girlfriend. Manolo s character is very hard to play because he has a Spanish accent which makes it difficult. However, Adam Mercado played the character well by doing the Spanish accent and being humorous. • 16. Daryl Bem Self Perception Theory In 1967, Daryl Bem, a social psychologist, created a theory that was drawn from the impression formation and attribution theories and developed the theory of self perception. Self perception is defined as follows, Self perception theory relies on situational and dispositional attributions similar to attribution theory (Frymier207). Bem created this theory to help understand one s understanding their own behavior through the same attributions that a person uses to understand someone else s behavior. Within self perception theory, the person observes themselves in the same manner in which they observe others and use that process to acknowledge our own behaviors or ideas of ourselves. Bem suggest that there are two postulates that are associated with self perception theory. The first is that individuals get to know themselves through the observation of their own behaviors or situations in which certain behaviors occur. Second is that external cues have little affect and the individual is in the same position as an outside observer. An example of this would be the foot in the door effect. Self perception theory from a psychological stand point is that a person s feelings and attitudes come from their external behaviors. Similarly, with self perception theory, persuasion involves person acting and then figuring out their behavior or attitudes (Frymier207). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By avoiding defining women as the opposite of men or just not men , this argument is resolved. Feminism is, however, a politically charged term, and many people shy away because opponents of feminism have created negative stereotypes about feminists. One way to avoid this, as proposed by bell hooks, is to use phrases like I advocate feminism rather than I am a feminist (55). This emphasizes that commitment to feminism is an act of will and avoids the speaker being plugged into preconceived notions of identity, role, or behavior (55). By simply advocating for feminism rather than using it as an identity, many of these negative stereotypes can be avoided. One highly justified argument against continuing to use the term feminism is its appropriation by trans exclusionary radical feminists, who consistently disrespect trans identities and believe trans people should not be included in feminism, and sex worker exclusionary radical feminists, who believe that sex workers do not deserve the protection of the feminist movement. Along these lines, some cornerstones of feminism, like the vagina monologues and some theory from second wave feminism, are highly problematic and do not reflect the current movement. To resolve that, we simply disconnect mainstream feminism from those rhetorics. A final argument is that using the term feminism ignores the oppression that some men face as a direct result of misogynist rhetoric that feminism seeks to end. The easiest way to resolve this would be to let men know that they are welcome in feminism and that many men s rights issues are actually feminist issues, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Sea Horse Adaptation An Adaptation on Sea Horses Over the years sea horses have adapted to their environments very well so far. They re good at catching their food and keeping quiet while doing it. Especially with their camouflage skills. All they have to do is stay still, stay in camouflage, wait for the bait, and then jump out and take it. So, sea horses have adapted quite well. One way that sea horses have been able to adapt is their hard scales. Their scales keep them protected from hard hits and of course almost getting a big bite taken out of them. If something does try to take a bite it won t do anything because of how non tender they are. • 26. Importance Of Community Service In Education This semester I engaged in many different community service and civic engagement activities. The activity that I did the most frequently would be volunteering in a special needs class room at Vandever Elementary in Broken Arrow. I went to Broken Arrow Public School and actually know that teacher that I volunteering with from when I used to peer tutor when I was younger. I peer tutored from 3rd grade through 10th grade, switching between three main classrooms. It was so nice to see one of the teachers that I looked up so much to when I was younger and who instilled in me the joys of teaching. Volunteering in her classroom was very fun and nostalgic, but I do think that she could have been more proactive with her time managementskills. While volunteering in the classroom, I became very familiar with the classroom s daily schedule and their routines. I found that there was quite a bit of time wasted in the afternoon. I was not entirely sure if maybe this had to do with her students and their limits because most of them are only a half day or if it was poor time management. Although, I think the schedule could easily be accommodated to include more instructional time if the students in the classroom were able to adjust to that. In the afternoon they spend a majority of their instructional time watching Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig, or Bookflix. I feel like if they divided their time as well they did in the morning they could get in a lot more instructional time. In the mornings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Evaluating The Merits And Demerits Of Fixed And Floating... Evaluate the merits and demerits of fixed and floating exchange rate regimes. Provide examples to support your arguments. I. Intro Floating exchange rates and fixed exchange rates each provide distinct advantages and disadvantages for a given regime. In any given state of the global economy, one given country may be better suited for one system. But there are a number of factors that influence this, and there is therefore no universal correct system for all international economies. I will discuss the merits and demerits of a floating exchange rate, providing the examples of the US Government response to the 2008 financial crisis and the excessive speculation that led to the 1929 stock market crash. These examples will illustrate a time when the US economy benefitted due to a floating exchange rate and a time when the US economy suffered due to a floating exchange rate. I will then provide a similar analysis for the fixed exchange rate using the same example of the dangers of speculation regarding the 1929 financial crash and the emerging market crisis of Argentina in 2001. As mentioned before, there is no universal solution to the monetary policy governing exchange rates. A general rule, however, is that floating exchange rates provide a country with more adaptability and independence in fluctuating international economic circumstances. But they can lead to instability, needlessly expansionary policy and excessive speculation. Fixed exchange rates, in contrast, are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These limited access highways would open the door for economic development across the country with their higher speeds and consistent route across state lines. In 1960, after the development of the interstates had yielded early promising economic results, a group of governors in Appalachia met with Presidential Candidate John F. The first efforts to create a national highway network was started by the American Association of State Highway Officials in 1914, founded by Logan Waller Page, with public support of The Good Roads Movement, led by John Hollis Bankhead. Along with avid motorist President Woodrow Wilson, the men worked to establish state sponsored highway agencies to improve the transportation network across the country to keep pace with the growing popularity of the automobile. With the help of these men and their enthusiasm for well developed highways in America, the Federal Aid Road Act of 1916 (FARA 1916) was passed on July 11 providing the first federal funds towards highway construction projects. The stated aim of the FARA 1916 was the improvement of postal roads to appeal to the rural population, who had initially seen this as a project with the wealthy urbanites in mind. In the final version of the approved bill, there were also provisions added to exclude the use of this federal funding within city limits. This was done to ensure the funding would go towards improving access to the most isolated locations with agriculture industries in mind. There are many barriers to entry, competitive pressure and price elasticity that also impact the economic growth of the village. Two Characteristics of the Four Market Structures The major market structures that impact our current economy are perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A monopolistic competition describes a common market structure in which firms have many competitors or sellers, but each one sells a vaguely distinctive product or service. One of this market structure s characteristics is that each individual firm makes independent decisions about price and output, based on its product, its market, and its costs of production (Economics Online, 2015). Another characteristic is there is freedom to enter or leave the market, since there are no major barriers to entry or exit. The opposite of this market structure is an oligopoly. Oligopoly means few sellers. Oligopoly is the market structure in which there are only a few firms or a few firms dominate the market (Amacher Pate, 2013). In an oligopolistic market, each seller supplies a large portion of all the products sold in the marketplace. In addition, because the cost of starting a business in an oligopolistic industry is usually high, the number of firms entering it is low. Local Market Example In the Village of Forest Park, the local electric company, ComEd, has a monopoly over the energy market. Analysis Of The Great Migration Of 1843 In 1843, farmers from Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio, who were not satisfied by the future their homes could offer them, decided to leave on a 2000 mile journey to Oregon in hope of finding better lives . In 1845, a few years after The Great Migration of 1843 , fur trapper and guide Stephen Meek, mislead a group of emigrants following the Oregon trail from Missouri to the Willamette Valley, to a shortcut that put many of their lives at stake. Based on this true story, Kelly Reichardt s Meek s Cutoff (2010) uses its mise en scГЁne, cinematography and other formal properties to generate meaning about themes represented in this event such as trust, survival, and women s role in a patriarchal society. The demonstration of this type of society is shown in the film by the use of the women s point of view, which will be analysed using a simple chosen excerpt. In the selected scene, the women s muteness and passiveness can be clearly identified by multiple elements of formal features such as the point of view shot and edit of sound. One of the most obvious elements supporting this view is the manipulation of the loudness of sound. In the 9th shot, William, Thomas and Solomon walk towards Stephen as the camera stays positioned approximately where Emily and Glory are standing, thus creating a mobile long shot of the men as they are walking away from the women. Living as a woman in the 50 s, Sylvia s realities helped her paint a truthful picture of what it was like to be a woman with depression during this time. Although her openness to express her real life struggle through text was remarkable, this topic of mental health and depression was unheard of at the time. Esther Greenwood, the main focus throughout The Bell Jar, resembled the life of Plath for her unsteady and rebellious characteristics that often break the social conceptions of what it meant to be a woman with depression. On page 96, Esther stands on top of a mountain with a colorful stream of consciousness that is detailed and fervent as she considers skiing down the mountain. Plath uses imagery and figurative language to convey her feelings of being out of control and absolutely isolated, revealing how women during this time period were forced to keep their true thoughts and emotions to themselves regardless of their mental condition. In this passage, Plath describes Buddy using two different similes, showing how Esther s last resort disappears in front of her, leaving her completely alone. As she stands atop the mountain, it seems as if her vision becomes progressively blurred. Exploring Social Patterns in the Renaissance Through Fashion Exploring Social Patterns in the Renaissance Through Fashion Fashion reflects the attitudes of a society more than any other art form. Like art, fashion is a material record of the ideals that swayed the nations at the time of their creation. Through examining the styles, and tastes of a particular era, we can realize where the interests and priorities of a time lie. As Frank Parsons wrote in his 1920 study, The Psychology of Dress, There is surly no better field in which to trace the devious paths of human thought than in that of clothes, where man has ever given free play to self expression, in a way which, thought not always a credit to his intelligence, is yet quite true to his innermost self, whether he will acknowledge it or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clothing expression in medieval Europe, like all other forms of artistic expression at this time, found it s biggest outlet in the ecclesiastical field, as this was where all the money was to be found. The churches employed all the best builders and craftsmen in creating their great cathedrals, and art works. In clothing, the church dictated what sorts of materials were made, and brought into the area, what colors were in use, and what styles were used, influencing the secular as well as ecclesiastical dress. In the feudal system only great Barons and their families wore fine cloths, as clothing was a symbol of rank and importance. Each family made their own clothes, so fashion was very individualistic in style, and each family had their own characteristics. With an increase of wealth in the area, and the beginning of the crusades, new elaborate styles were introduced into the scene. Fashions became strange, and grotesque in nature reflecting the constant struggles and wars of the time, as fantasy and the grotesque generally influence social costumes accompanying times of war. Women in their headgear actually wore huge horns, like an ox, that towered above them and supported a veil, and men s shoes were peaked and extended six inches in front of them for common men, and a foot for gentlemen, and two feet for noblemen. The church frowned on the extreme finery, painted faces, and low cut dresses of the women. But as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some cases hold a particular interest from the public because of publicity due to the topics they address but it is no secret that the vast majority of these cases are ignored by people in their everyday life. It can be seen with some examples from cases like Brown v. Buhman, Spokeo v. Robbins, Fisher v. University of Texas that the decision made in these cases can have an impact on the lives of all or many citizens that generally ignore their outcomes holding no regard for the standings of the supreme court. Let us start with Brown v. Buhman as the first example for why the average citizen should care about the supreme court. This case covers an issue with the Brown family a group of polygamists regarding a statute in Utah. This case brings up a few important things to be recognized. Primarily the case regards standing and mootness of a case, these are both important aspects of law to understand. For a case to continue and take place it has to be relevant and there has to be a reason for the case to be brought up. In the case of Brown v. Buman if part of the statute was deemed unconstitutional then the case would no longer be needed as it would solve the issue. Now although most people may feel that on the outside an understanding of this case is irrelevant to them as it handles a case of polygamy it holds many important considerations. • 46. The Garden Of Forking Paths, By Jorge Luis Borges After reading the lecture and the short stores by Jorge Luis Borges, one can able to conclude that we are surrounded by criminal activities. In every culture, region or country there are some sort of criminal activities more over the same type of crimes that occurs. In Latin America the crime rates were significantly high in the past and still continues in the 21st century. Each of these stories written by the author Jorge Luis Borges carries some kind of connection in Latin America. After reading the short story, The Garden of Forking Paths , we learn that Yu Tsun is a secret spy for the German army. More importantly, it was relieved that Yu Tsun was willing to shoot his friend Doctor Albert in order to complete his mission. This was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I can also say that this story can connect with most detectives regardless of culture or location. The scenarios in which was described in the short story can connect to individuals who are investigators who then eventually becomes the victims of their own work. For example, I ve heard factual information where a detective has been killed by the perpetrator for investigating a crime. I believe that this story deals with revenge of an officer. The perpetrator Scharlach wanted to get revenge for his brother who was arrested by the detective and then later died in prison. From that, I was able to form another conclusion. In Latin America, gang members usually look out for each other. With that said, when one is hurt, killed, died, revenge sets into place. After reading the short story, Borges and I , I was able to interpret a theme of identity. The plot surprise is that the narrator discusses himself as if he is two separate persons: I and The other one, the one called Borges. This can possible relates to Latin America violence to those who commits crime. They can either defined themselves as two different persons for the purpose of self ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Methods And Results Of Local Government s Performance... RESEARCH METHOD Approach. This chapter discusses the methodology of the thesis. As mentioned, this thesis mainly uses qualitative data collected via literature and document review, and semi structured interviews to answer the research questions. This is because the qualitative approach is more suitable to provide a great deal of descriptive details...emphasizes on process...[and] is concerned with explanations (Bryman, 2004, pp. 280 281), which is essential to examine the process and results of local government s performance measurement. Focus and Locus. This research is focused on answering and identifying the problems involved in the research questions. The relationship between the research questions and supporting methods, which are later explained in detail, is illustrated as follows: Indonesia is currently a democratic country with three tiers of government: central government; provincial government; and local government. At the lower level, there are 34 provinces and 508 (as of 2014) local governments. There are two types of local government across Indonesia: 1) Kabupaten (district), and 2) Kota (city). In the past (before Reformasi), provincial and local governments were simply an extension of the central government at the regional and local level. Government policies and programs were determined by central government. As the result, the Gubernur (Head of Province) and the Bupati/Walikota (Head of Kabupaten/Kota), directly appointed by the president, were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although, some say that Science and poetry are like two sides of a coin but as a matter of fact these two are related. For instance, the poem, Love is Chaos by Prasanta shows the perfect relation between the two. There are different reasons as to why they re without a home range drastically from a desire for freedom to a severe family conflict that has forced them out of their homes. There have been countless stories about ragged boys and girls in the United States struggling to survive during the changing seasons, using tunnels and bridges as their homes, cardboard as their beds, and forming new families on the streets to remain sane. Homeless youth can be defined as 12 to twenty year olds who are without familysupport and who are living in unstable circumstances without a secure home. ( Homelessness) The origin of homelessness is traced back all the way to colonial America. In the early times of America, the homeless were referred to as vagrants or sturdy beggars . Just like today, many were forced to become homeless due to negative factors in their homes or general lives. Specifically, wars had a huge influence on the amount of homeless in early America. Also, The economic uncertainties of life in early America left many people in the lower class without a place to live. ( Homelessness ). • 50. Death Is Not Bad For Anyone Death is not Bad for Anyone Epicurus writes, the argument that death is nothing to us, because when we exist, death is not yet present, and when death comes, we no longer exist. There are three reasonable previews to support his view, including: something is bad for someone as long as it must be bad for that person at specific time; Death cannot be bad for someone when they are dead because the person does not exist at that time; Death cannot be bad for someone before death actually come. Among these three reasonable previews, Epicurus draw his conclusion that because there is no time at which death is bad for someone, so death is not bad for anyone. I m agree with that Death is not bad for anyone , because death can t affect us since we are died. Although the objection is reasonable, I still think the Epicurus s response is stronger. The objection is that death can be bad because it is a deprivation of the good things in life. Our life is full of good things. We have time that we stay with our parents or hang out with our friends; we have time that we do our hobby and go traveling to see the world; we have time that we go shopping and eat delicious foods; though there are still sometimes bad things happens, it emphasis happiness in our life and make our life colorful. However, if we died, we no longer have time to enjoy it. All the happy moments, money, gorgeous house, people we loves, things we have experienced and not experienced disappear since we are died. • 51. Porcelain And Pink Character Analysis In the extract of the play Porcelain and Pink by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the characters Lois and Julie s individual personalities can be uncovered. One can do this through analysation of conversation through turn taking, cooperative principles, implicature and politeness strategies. We shall discuss these four aspects in detail. The individual personalities of the characters can be explored by investigating the turn taking in this dialogue. To begin with, we will look at Lois. From line one to three, this character shows that she is to the point and very direct. One can see this through the conversation analysed during turn taking, Lois plainly states she has a date, and then tells Julie that is none of her business (lines 1 and 3). She does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are first introduced to implicature in the first line of the extract from Lois, who is trying to implicitly get Julie out of the bathroom. To argue this claim we will look at lines one to four where Lois expresses that she has a date with Julie, but is implying that she would like Julie to hurry up because of this reason. Julie, wanting to know more about this date and ignoring the fact that she knows she needs to hurry up, explicitly asks about it. This exposes the girls unlike makeup, Lois is trying to suggest a reason to Julie to get out of the bathroom, which is a nicer way of getting the message across instead of plainly asking her, which could be seen as rude. Julie, however, is not moved by her inferred meaning, this shows her mischievous and meddlesome side. (Levey et al. 2015. P ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Losing part of your life memories is a big change, it can make it hard for you to do the things you used to do on a regular basis. In some cases people with this condition will never recover from the memories they lost, taking them to the point where they have to create new memories in their new life. To avoid further memory loss people with amnesia should avoid alcohol abuse and have a proper diet. It is important for those people who are suffering from memory loss, to have a doctor helping them through the process of recovering. It is hard to know if someone will ever recover from their memory lost, in some cases people tend to remember some stuff but not all. For those people who suffered from anterograde amnesia(which means they have no capacity to make new memories, and may even have difficulty recalling events before the onset memory) improvements can be made by repetition of tasks so they can develop a routine, which lodges in their subconscious memory. For example, they can organise details on what tasks to do and how to do them, just like we take notes in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
