The International Relations And Foreign Policies Decisions...
The importance of Ethic in the study of the international relations and in foreign policies decisions
by governments and others non states.
The structure of individual estates and how they behave has been influenced by the constitution of
the international system. In others words, due to the fact that states behave in an anarchy system,
in which is not a high authority that protects them in case that they found themselves into
international affairs with others states, it makes that states persuade the seeking of power, trough
security competition, to ensure its survival.
Due to the fact, that states are the major actors worldwide, to guarantee that the competition
between them is not aggressively, for example, after Wars, in the settling of peace. Also, in cases
of outlaw societies, that refuse to comply with the law of peoples (Rawuls, 1999, pp.4,90). At this
point, it is when, the solutions of these conflicts must have a universal ethical basis and be directed
by entities as non actors that have the political, economic, and most important, the moral power, to
persuade states to change or modified their political policies. Also, implement regulations and
norms basis in moral ethic to preserve the protection of human rights. (Bell, 2010) without other
interest, then peace, and global order, for the wellbeing of the worldwide population.
Differences between Liberalism, Realism and its three varieties.
Simplicity is an important difference between two theories that explains

The British Army
The British Army during the American War of Independence served for eight years in battles
fighting around the globe. Imprisonment at the Siege of Yorktown with a recipe of France and US
force eventually led to the loss of the Thirteen Colonies in eastern North America Not only that, the
Treaty of Paris robbed Britain many of the profits attained in the Seven Years War. However several
victories in other places meant that much of the British Empire remained unbroken. The army
suffered because of deficiency of peace spent and useless enlistment in that period since the Seven
Years War. These circumstances had left it in a wrecked state at the burst of war in North America.
To counterbalance the British, the government... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lot of the early training was found to be insufficient, with officers unsure how to use light
companies. In 1772, General George Townshend wrote Instructions, and Training and Equipping
of the new Light Companies that was distributed to troops on the Irish founding and offered a
hands on guide for training light companies and assistance for tactics. Townshend also introduced
a new communication method for light bob officers when in control of carelessly positioned
troops. By whistling different signals, it would specify an action. In 1774 William Howe wrote
the Manual for Light Foot soldiers Drill and made an investigational Light Foot soldier s squad
training at Salisbury camp. This then became the outline for all regular light foot soldiers helping
in North America. Howe s system varied in that it fixated on development composite squadrons of
light foot soldiers more appropriate to large scale group of soldiers in North America, rather than

specifically for their customers. Target Audience

Secondly, Pier 1 has established product differentiation. Pier 1 provides unique products to their
customers which builds customer loyalty and is less likely to lose market share to a competitor
than an advantage based on cost (Faulkenberry, n.d.).
Risk/Opportunity
Challenges that face Pier 1 Imports include the rising cost of raw materials and low investments in
research and development. There are also external business risks and changes within tax laws that
prove to be a challenge for Pier 1.
Opportunities that are available to Pier 1 Imports include new markets as well as new products
and services. Also, in this era of DIY home improvement projects there is a growing demand for
merchandise provided by Pier 1 Imports such as the pillar candle holder.
Conclusions
Pier 1 Imports should continue providing this pillar candle holder to its consumers as well as other
candle holders that would appeal to their customers. This market will continue to grow with the
growing economy and growing demand. While the target market is women age 25 34, this group
will no doubt increase as more homeowners look to DIY projects for home improvement.
The competition for Pier 1 Imports in candle holder sales will increase as more retailers are selling
candles and candle holders. Candle holders are not limited to being sold at specialty stores such as
Pier 1 Imports and Yankee; candles and candle holders are found at big box

Victor Frankenstein Film Analysis
Victor Frankenstein 2015
Victor Frankenstein 2015 is a science fiction, thriller and horror film that is based on the 1818
novel by Mary Shelley. The film was directed by Paul Mcguian and starred Daniel Radcliffe as
Igor and James McAvoy as Victor Frankenstein (McGuigan). Unlike other film adaptations based
on the same novel, the film is narrated from Igor s perspective. Igor is a young assistant who is
working closely with his over ambitious friend Victor. Victor is also a young medical student who
will stop at nothing to achieve his scientific goals.
The director lets the film rolls from Igor s perspective in order to allow the audience to understand
and appreciate the emergence of Frankenstein as scientists that the audience knows to ... Show more

He proves this when conversing with Igor in the lab when the latter says, Victor, you promised me
that this was all about life , Victor remarks in awe that it was about so much more than life
(Frankenstein).
The film was written by Max Landis and is significantly different from most versions of the same
story (Coming to Life). It attempts to take a third person perspective in order to reflect on the
temperament of the main character, Victor Frankenstein. Using third person narration, Max
manages to vilify Victor s character by shining a light on his recklessness. This is particularly
important given that the Mary s novel allowed the audience to empathize with Victor due to the
loss of his family members and fiancГ©.
In this adaptation, the writer ensures that Victor is unhinged and carefree but a loyal friend to
Igor and other people in his life. In addition to being brash, Victor is humorous in most of the
scenes. This is implied when Igor pleads with him to rethink the experiments since the police
were after the duo. While his friend Igor wanted to make a world a better place and hopefully be
remembered for inventing new ways of healing the sick, Victor seeks to redefine the meaning of
life and death. From the writing, it is clear that Victor did not really intend to get anybody hurt. His
character is simply deranged and he ends up risking the lives of the people around him. The writer

The Apple Vs. Samsung War
The Apple vs. Samsung War
This paper will give us an overview of the patent infringement war between the world s two
biggest smartphone makers Apple Inc. and Samsung. For the last three years, these two
technology giants have clashed on a scale unheard of in the history of the business world, their
licit war costing more than a billion dollars and spanning four continents. For the purpose of this
paper, I will go back to where the Apple vs. Samsung saga began, back in April 2011. The main
objective of this paper is to analyze the different types of intellectual property infringements that had
been claimed by Apple Inc. against Samsung Electronics Co.

Apple claimed that there were four types of infringements to its protectable intellectual property
1. Some Trade dress infringements on the look and packaging of the iPhone and iPads Trade dress
is a product s physical appearance (size, shape, design, color and feel). It also includes the way it
has been packaged or wrapped, presented, promoted or advertised. Trade dress infringement is
basically making the trade dress of two businesses sufficiently similar, confusing consumers about
what they are buying. To establish a claim for trade dress a business must prove the uniqueness of
its product s appearance.

substantially or entirely, it gives the owner the right to cause of action against the infringer. In order
to succeed in a trademark infringement action, the owner must show that the use of the mark
created confusion about the origin of the defendant s product. If the owner successfully proves
infringement, the usual course of action in such

To His Excellency, General Washington By Phillis Wheatly
The poem To His Excellency, General Washington by Phillis Wheatly is directed to George
Washington. It was written during a time in which America s future was very uncertain. Wheatley
tries to capture the American spirit and show how the nation truly felt. She uses the theme of
freedom to embody what she thinks America is about as a country. The theme of a hero was also
used by Wheatley to show Washington as a hero throughout the poem. Both themes develop as the
poem goes on. One main theme of the poem is that of a Hero. That Hero being George washington
himself. Wheatley talks of how Washington makes ev ry action let the goddess guide (40). The
goddess being that of liberty is showing of how Washington is not just a normal hero; Wheatley

Variations and Characteristics of Mental Retardation Essay...
Mental Retardation is an old fashioned term for people who have problems learning and
developing, but is defined as a disability characterized by significant limitations both in intellectual
functioning and behaviors in expressing conceptual, social and practical skills in approximately one
to three percent of the United States (Sue, Sue, Stanley, 2010). Mental retardationis categorized by
the DSM IV TR as being a genetic disorder usually first diagnosed in infancy, childhood or
adolescence, and is not considered to be a cognitive disorder. The following criteria is required for
diagnosis of mental retardation under the DSM IV TR, Intellectual functioning under the IQ score

feet and flexible joints (NIH, 2012). Learning is difficult for people with Fragile X Syndrome
because the syndrome affects the ability to think, learn and reason, with problems ranging from
mild learning issues to severe developmental disability (NIH, 2012). Other characteristics include
behavioral, social and emotional problems including anxiety in new situations, problems making
eye contact, attention disorders and aggresive behavior (NIH, 2012). Speech, and language
problems also exist with Fragile X Syndrome, including trouble speaking clearly, stuttering, speech
may come later than others their age, few may never speak. Lastly, many children with Fragile X
Syndrome have sensory issues and can be bothered by bright lights, loud noises, or the way
clothing feels on their skin, which can cause the child to act out (Sue, Sue, Stanley, 2010).
Down Syndrome is a condition caused by the presecnce of an extra chromosome called trisomy

characteristics (Sue, Sue, Stanley, 2010). Trisomy 21 means that each cell in the body has three
copies of the chromosome 21, instead of the normal 2 copies received, one from each parent
(NLM, 2012). Most cases of Down Syndrome are not hereditary but occur as random events,

The BCAA Supplement
Various Good Uses of The BCAA supplement
BCAAs or the branched chain amino acid supplements help individuals to gain mass in the body.
Even if the diet of the person is such that it is low calorie even in such scenarios regular intake of
BCAA supplement can help maintain body mass. In cases where an individual is trying to shred
weight in such cases this supplement helps prevent the body from taking mass from the muscles.
Here are the few benefits of BCAA supplement
Prevents the crisis of catabolic state of the body
When a person diets or undergoes a regimen for losing weight, it can lead to the breakdown of
muscles. When the person becomes more and more lean then the body starts loosing mass from the
muscle as the body starts chinking out the stored fats. When the body does not get the necessary

It gives direct competition to the amino acid tryptophan for entering into our brain. Here the
trymtophan gets converted into serotonin. The levels of serotonin increases while we workout and
helps prevent fatigue. Hence if one can Buy online BCCA supplement and have it regularly along
with a good workout regimen then it can help in an intensive workout session.
No digestion required The BCAAs when taken in the form of supplements does not need to be
digested. When consumed it directly enters into the bloodstream and starts functioning. They bring
the amino acid levels in the blood to a high count within a short time. Hence their impact on protein
synthesis and breakdown is higher.

The Power of the Family in White Noise Essay examples
The Power of the Family in White Noise
Don Dellilo s protagonist in his novel White Noise, Jack Gladney, has a nuclear family that is,
ostensibly, a prime example of the disjointed nature way of the family of the 80 s and 90 s what
with Jack s multiple past marriages and the fact that his children aren t all related. It s basically the
antipodal image of the 1950 s nuclear family. Despite this surface level disjointedness, it is his
family and the extrasensory rapport that he shares with them allows Jack to survive in his world.
Murray, Jack s friend, argues that The family is strongest where objective realityis most likely to be
misinterpreted (82). Heinrich, Jack s son, explicates this notion in his constant ... Show more

So in recounting the smell of panties etc., and viewing such encounters with either irony, sympathy
and fond amusement, Jack is able not only to affirm the present and escape the past, but
accomplishes something much larger: namely the ability to affirm the realness of such feelings.
Thus the family, in this instance Babette, serves as the medium through which Jack is able to
overcome Heinrich s skepticism (which is representative of modern science (24)) as to the reality of
human emotions. DeLillo s image, moreover, of Jack and Babette rescuing themselves from the
past also suggests that without family or someone to commune with, man can become lost in the
past.
DeLillo s novel is almost obsessively concerned with appliances: TVs, radios, microwaves etc.
They are omnipresent, not only in the characters worlds but within the narrative itself. DeLillo
repeatedly interrupts his narrative with sentences like The TV said: And other trends that could
dramatically impact our portfolio (61) or MasterCard, Visa, American Express (100) or That
chirping sound was just the radiator (94). Just as Jack s world is one suffused with such objects,
so too is the narrative, a technique which DeLillo uses to force the reader into Jack Gladney s
world. Objects play a dualistic role in Jack s familial life. Jack tells us that

Importance of Not Being Late Essay
Importance of not being late. In the following paper I will be discussing what series of actions

these actions might have on the accomplishment of the mission, the possible affects on your

If you are charged and found guilty under these articles you can be facing a multitude of
outcomes none of which one would strife for. The commanding officer could be as lenient as
letting you go with a stern yet fair warning and talking, you may find yourself picking up trash
after work and during the weekends for anything between the parameters of seven to forty five
days of extra duty. You may also suffer from the economical side of the house because they may
decide to go ahead and cut your monthly pay in half for two whole months back to back. Last of
the outcomes named here but the one that I personally believe to be the worst is the loss of
rank. The can take one or all of the them depending on the severity of the cause being presented
to the commanding officer. Rank is the thing that takes the most time to achieve the first time
around coming up the ranks, to lose it after you have it makes it harder for you to be seeing as a
professional and a soldier that is worth pushing forward to achieve to the next step in his career.
Next we will discuss in this paper the impact such actions can have getting the mission finished,
moral and appearance of the company or organization, and the direct impact it can have on the

Touch Reaction Times
Visual, Auditory and Touch Reaction Times
Nick Marshall, Jack Wilson, Angus Newman: 8F 4 /6/2018
Introduction:
The purpose of this investigation is to examine the differences in reaction times when using
different stimuli. This investigation relates to the nervous and brain systems in the human body.
When your senses pick up clues from the outside world it takes a small amount of time for you to
recognize the signal and respond. (Yuhas, 2018) Reaction time is the measure of speed from which
your brain recognises a stimulus, to the reaction, possibly movement. The process of reacting is
carried out by many neurons as well as numerous systems and circuits in the brain. (Yuhas, 2018).

Previous studies produced results that show that touch is the fastest, then auditory and finally
visual with the averagely slowest reaction time. This data suggests that visual stimuli cause the
fastest reaction, followed by auditory, and finally touch. The average in time for visual stimuli
was 0.170 seconds. Previous results have evidenced that visual stimulus is the slowest, with an
average time of 0.25 seconds. This experiment contradicts these results. The second fastest
reaction time was caused by an auditory stimulus. This produced an average reading of 0.176
seconds. This is similar to previous results. However, there is a small discrepancy of 0.006
seconds between the previous results and the results of this test. Finally, touch stimulus was the
slowest in this experiment. This contradicts previous results. In other tests the touch stimulus was
the fastest at 0.15 seconds, whereas in this experiment it was the slowest: 0.193 seconds. When
gravity pulled the rulers to the mass of the earth, it took time for the subject to recognise the
movement and to react to it. These results contradict previous experiments. The brain signals
were processed on average more slowly than in previous experiments. However, this experiment
could have been unfair and biased. When the auditory and touch tests were carried out, there was
most likely a small amount of time between the call or touch and the ruler being dropped. Also,
test subjects were changed throughout the experiment. This would have caused a discrepancy in
the results, because different subjects may have had different personal reaction times due to
several factors. Also, the age could have had an effect. In this experiment we used 13 year old test
subjects. It is unknown of the age of the previous experiments. This experiment could have been
improved by conducting more tests over a range of people to calculate a more global and

Superego Of Sigmund Freud
Sigmund Freud, a renowned psychologist and psychoanalyst, is notably known for creating the
idea of the id, the ego and superego. These three concepts, according to Freud, make up the human
psyche and provide some insight and understanding into how the human mind works. These so
called systems in the brain are in no way physical but together, they make up a whole and
contribute towards an individual s behavior.
The id is described as the primitive component of one s personality as it consists of everything
biologically inherited at birth. This includes one s instincts and sexual desires. The id can be
described as being impulsive and contains all of the drives and hidden urges of an individual.
Repressed memories in the unconscious mind resides in the id. Freud believed that the id, ego and
superego developed at different stages in an individual s life. A newborn child is all id, as it
does not have the morals and social influences that come with the ego and superego. The ego,
unlike the id, is partly conscious and partly unconscious. It serves as the intermediary between the
id and the superego as it makes decisions based on reason, instead of unrealistically and logically
(as the id would) or based on morality and societal influences (as the superego would). The ego
would create the realistic ways to fulfill the id s demands that are impulsive and with little regard to
any consequences. Defense mechanisms exist within the ego due to the fact that it often faces
anxiety

every other day, feeling elated to be in this city. I had the best school, technology and food. Luke,

rescuers who came to the aid of the innocent victims. The rescuers saved thousands of innocent

Rescuers ranged from people such as nannies and peasants, to doctors, police officers, and social
workers. They came from nations such as Ukraine, Poland, Germany, France, Hungary, Denmark,
Italy, Greece, Belgium, etc. They decided to not view the Jews as rivals, or to alienate them, but

The card game intercut with the flashback of the hex doll works. It sets the tone and establishes
the world. While some tightening of dialogue is suggested, it s a good start. Moreover, the teaser
hooks the audience; both Marie Laveau and Marianne fascinate the audience.
As the pilot continues, there are some good plotlines, but there s simply not enough anticipation,
suspense, tension, and/or romance. The pilot relies a bit too much on dialogue.
First, the pilot offers a plot to abolish slavery. Marie wants Marianne s help. It s a plotline that s
smart, but vague. Marie talks a lot in the scene about what she wants Marianne to do, but her
dialogue, in this scene, can just be clearer. She talks in a round about way.
She simply needs to say that she has information that Marianne will be approached to have meetings
held at her establishment and that she wants Marianne to agree to the meetings and to spy on the
men for information. Be specific.
For example, maybe they are expecting the Confederates to attack a fort, or something like this,
and she needs Marianne to get information about this attack. This gives this storyline more focus.
Moreover, showing Marianne spying will enhance the tension. Maybe she s almost caught. Maybe
she checks out the pockets of one of the their clients looking for information. This also makes
Marianne more proactive as a character.

Essay On I Have The Right To Bear Arms
Within the past half century, gun control has become a heated debate topic between Americans.
The United States Federal government should not increase gun control regulations. The second

this, it is understood that each citizen has the right to possess firearms and use them under the

At certain points in history, gun sales to civilians have been prohibited by law. In 1976,
Washington D.C. implemented a gun ban that potentially worsened the city s homicide rate.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, annual homicides rose from 188 in 1976 to
364 in 1988 and continued increasing to 454 in 1993. The gun ban was struck down by the
Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller and since, homicides have steadily declined to
88 annual murders in 2012. This statistic shows that depriving the right to bear arms from law

King Tutankhamun In Ancient Egypt
The beginning of Egypt is a civilization full of wonders and victories, Especially the people that
lived during that time. During 1550 BC to 1292 BC Many pharaohs rose up to lead the kingdom to
riches and prosperity throughout their ruling. Even through hard times the egyptian people and
their leaders figured solutions that solved their problems. One example of these many great
pharaohs, is a young one that was not known to the modern time till 1922. That king was king
Tutankhamun, also known as king Tut. This king was known as the youngest king to ever rule egypt
, he was the son of Akhenaton. Which however was a very powerful ruler that opposed the idea of

Their discrimination has been a perennial issue and has only proven to be more spurious with
time. The discrimination the members of the transgender community face based on their class and
gender make them one of the most disempowered groups in Indian Society. Transgender is
generally described as a person whose gender identity, gender expression or behaviour does not
conform to their biological sex.
2.DEFINING TRANSGENDER: Transgender a person whose self identified gender does not
correspond to the gender assigned to them at birth. Their gender identity may not conform to
conventional binary notions of male and female, but rather as a third gender. The term transgender
is not indicative of sexual orientation, hormonal makeup, physical anatomy, or how one is
perceived in daily life.
The term transgender refers to signify individuals who go beyond rigid, binary gender
constructions. Such resistance is facilitated through the breaking and blurring of culturally
prevalent stereotypical gender roles. Third Genders are mostly castrated males who have a long
history that dates back to 9th Century B.C. Transgender have a recorded history of more than
4,000 years. Asian countries have centuries old histories of existence of gender variant males who

(USC, 2009) Data types 2.1 If there is data that is in numerical form this is called quantitative
data if not then it is if referred to as qualitative data if there is no numerical value or data. For
example qualitative data can be anything other than words for example it could be a recorded
video or photographs these types can be identified as qualitative data Measuring Data 2.2
Measuring and analysing data involves gathering quantitative data about various products and the
processes and analysing that data to influence your actions and plans this can allow you to gain a
understanding of the process, products, resources and environments and evaluate so that you know
the status with respect to your current plans and being able to predict the relationships among the
processes and the produces you observe using these attributes to predict other values and products
and processes you can improve these milestones by knowing the root causes of these problems and
identifying where you can make improvements. Graphical Data 2.3 Many researches can and do
use histograms and bar charts and graphs to show the way that the quantitative data is distributed
in doing so this makes it easy to understand the results easy, to compare the data and evaluate
quickly and also if someone else is using this data bar charts and graphs are fairly simplistic to
understand thus helping the research further itself.

Anita Desai s Clear Light Of Day
Escapism in Anita Desai s Clear Light of Day
Clear Light of Day, written by Anita Desai and published in 1980, tells the story of the siblings
of the Das family living in Old Delhi. It tells the story of Bim, the eldest sister a history professor
and caretaker of Baba, their youngest, autistic brother. She is a spinster who seems to have been
left behind by everyone. Headstrong, intelligent and apparently sure of her choices, it seems that
Bim has had no desire to escape her life.
The novel also tells the story of Tara and of Raja, the two apparently more prosperous siblings, who
both manage to escape the bleak atmosphere of the house; Tara through her marriage to Bakul, and
Raja through his immersion in Urdu poetry and Islamic culture, his relationship with Hyder Ali, and
consequently, his moving away to Hyderabad and marriage to Benazir.
Escapism plays a very important role in the story of Anita Desai s Clear Light of Day. The focus
of this essay is to explore how this theme affects the relationship between Bim and Raja. Best
friends and partners in crime, Bim and Raja share a love of literature and poetry, and are the
closest of the four siblings. Eventually, however, Raja s admiration of Hyder Ali leads him to
Urdu poetry and an interest in Islamic culture, seeking an escape from the stifling, insipid
atmosphere of his own home and life. What seems to have started as scholarly interest, and
initially even draws Bim s admiration, leads to Raja s escape to Hyderabad to

Hurricane Katrin The Hurricane
INTRODUCTION:
Early in the morning on August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast of the United
States. The storm itself did a great deal of damage, but its aftermath was catastrophic. Levee
breaches led to massive flooding, and many people charged that the federal government was slow
to meet the needs of the people affected by the storm. Hundreds of thousands of people in Louisiana
, Mississippi and Alabama were displaced from their homes, and experts estimate that Katrina
caused more than $150 billion in damage.[1]
HURRICANE KATRINA: BEFORE THE STORM:
Katrina at first shaped over the Bahamas on Aug. 23, 2005, as a tropical sorrow. A decently
characterized band of storm mists started to wrap around the north side of the storm s flow focus
in the early morning hours of Aug. 24. The storm was named Tropical Storm Katrina. The day
preceding Katrina hit, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin issued the city s first ever obligatory
clearing request. He likewise pronounced that the Superdome, a stadium found on moderately high
ground close downtown, would serve as a haven of final resort for individuals who couldn t leave
the city. By dusk, very nearly 80 percent of the city s populace had emptied. Around 10,000 had
looked for sanctuary in the Superdome, while countless others decided to endure the storm at
home.[2]
When it went to southern Florida on Aug. 25, Katrina was a moderate Category 1 typhoon. While
it brought on some flooding and losses two individuals were

Changes In The Ottoman Empire
The decrease of the Ottoman state made the beginning of reform essential, while in the meantime
expanded the bartering force of capable European nations that wished to advance their own
particular investments. These states meddled with the interior undertakings of the Ottoman state
and pushed for changes with the point that, through the presentation of reforms, they would
promote new opportunity and better guarantees for existing interests. Meanwhile, these states
expected that a further decrease in the Ottoman Empirewould strengthen political and military
unsteadiness in the Balkans, which consequently could also debilitate the security of Europe.
Determined by need and political weight, in the early 19th century, the Ottoman Empire presented
an arrangement of political changes known as Tanzimat. Among others, these changes went for
reinforcing further the guideline toward oneself of different non Muslim amasses and acquaint their
political uniformity with the Muslims under the idea of Ottomanism. The Tanzimat changes

religious community of men typically living under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. In

The Battle of Pea Ridge and its Impact on the Civil War
The Civil War was a major point in American History. It has influenced everyone in America in
many ways. The War was conducted in two main areas of the United States. These two parts were
in the area east of the Mississippi River and in the area west of the Mississippi River. The control
of both of these fronts was vital for victory by either the Union or the Confederacy. On March 8,
1862, a small skirmish at Pea Ridge, Arkansas led to the Union s domination of the west. The

He had over sixteen thousand men and sixty five large guns (Civil). This was a three to two
advantage over the Federal group of 10,250 men (National).
He wasted this advantage by overworking his soldiers. He did this because he was sitting in an
ambulance while his soldiers were walking the whole way. Many of his soldiers fell to the side of
the road with blisters on their feet, unable to walk anymore. After several days of this, Van Dorn s
army finally reached Bentonville (Civil).
Despite Van Dorn s speedy march through the wintry terrain, the Federals, under General Samuel
Curtis, had learned of the Confederate advance from a Unionist resident of Fayetteville. This made
Curtis decide to concentrate his forces at Little Sugar Creek. He dug in there in wait of the
Confederate forces.
When Van Dorn learned of the Federal s knowledge of his position, he became more determined
to strike a blow against the Federals. He decided to lead his already weary army through a march
in a winter night. As they marched through the night, many more of Van Dorn s men fell out of
ranks from exhaustion. By the morning of March 7, they had reached Telegraph road, their goal.
From this position they could catch the Federals by surprise and force them to surrender (Civil).

How Music Can Help Us Find Our Identity Essay
Ones identity is something greatly important to a person. An identity makes us who we are,
combining our nationality, ethnicity, race, class, religion, and gender, a complex mixture that
involves many factors. This is whom we are, what we are made of. One tool to show identity or
more than just show, the means by which identity is created, is music. We constantly hear musical
metaphors such as find your voice or march to the rhythm of your own drum simple putting music
can help us find our identity. Music can construct, represent and portray ones identity, showing
others and our self who we are and what makes our identity.
Coming from a western society, musical identity can often become very clouded. Music is usually
produced for a global audience in western culture and intended to top the charts, meaning it can be
difficult to find one identity in this music. Saying this doesn t mean that music wont play a role in
ones identity in western culture, on contrary music makes its way into many parts of who we are.
From personal experience music has influenced who I spend time with, as a community is created
with people who share musical preferences with myself. Another example comes from the
University of Glasgow, they preformed a number of studies on music and identity, finding that the
music you relate to from your teenage years is music that stays with you throughout your life,
making it a part of your identity. Residing in a western culture, we are familiar with the

The Role of Belonging in Dickinson s Poetry and Jules Music
Belonging s instinctive qualities are explored in the poetry of Emily Dickinson, which also
highlights the reasons for pursuing belonging, including the need for emotional sustenance and self
validation. On the other hand, the song Mad World by Gary Jules, communicates the daunting
prospect of losing one s individual identity as a consequence of belonging to a conformist society.
Emily Dickinson s poetry confirms belonging is a yearning, which most humans seek to satisfy
simply because we are social beings. The statement What mystery pervades a well! from the poem
of the same name, expresses the yearning for belonging by implying an empathic question and a
longing for the water , which is a symbol for the epitome of life. Since ... Show more content on

The sheer complexity of the emotional aspects involved with belonging may be seen in the
belonging estrangement paradox; highlighted by the fact that those who know her know her less
and that those who attempt to understand belonging and nature are incapable of understanding
nature s ghost and hidden secrets. Dickinson seems to be looking into a lid of glass , the surface
of the water, or what we perceive as life, and personifies the surface by calling it an abyss s face
highlighting life s immeasurable depth, whilst also implying through the connotations of glass
being similar to a mirror that we ourselves may never be able to understand our purpose and place
in this life. In an attempt to understand nature Dickinson uses personification, describing nature as a
female entity, to make it is easier to interact with something living rather than that which is
inanimate.
Unlike the poetry of Emily Dickinson, the song Mad Worldby Gary Jules explores the conformity
of today s society, which is shown to inevitably darken one s outlook on life. Jules apathy reveals
how this form of belonging is quite destructive; as he communicates that individuality becomes
redundant in a world of anonymity. Jules exclamation of I want to hide my head and drown my
sorrows exhibits the desperate desire to escape from the mundane and depressive atmosphere of a
uniform society.

Police Brutality And Use Of Force
One of the biggest issues in not just criminal justice but also in America is the use police
brutality and use of force. The interpreted definition of use of force is when an officer feels like
it is necessary to defend themselves or others. There is no set definition of what use of force
actually means. The amount of force used depends on the situation the officer is and how the
situation ends in the safest result. There are two types force lethal and less lethal force. Less
lethal force is basic verbal commands and physical restraint while lethal means to use enough
force to kill. Reasonable force is classified as force that is constitutionally permissible by the
fourteenth amendment. The fourteenth amendment states that citizens should get equal
protection of the law. Using more force than is needed to subdue and individual is known as
excessive force. Officers who use excessive force should be punished for their actions. There has
been a lot of cases in the news about the use of excessive force all over the country and the videos
are on all sorts of social media. The result of this is people being afraid of a policeand also causing a
dislike of law enforcement as well. The use of force has many different outcomes for law
enforcement. With the use of force officers can look like heroes or a villain based on a split
second decision. Law enforcement as they are put in situations where they can save lives but also
end lives in certain situations. The use of force is a very

Friendship Is A Strange Concept
Friendship is a strange concept. You meet someone and eventually, after talking to them and being
around them more you feel more comfortable calling them a friend opposed to an acquaintance.
However, not just anyone can be a friend and there are different types of friendships. According to
Aristotle there are three different types of friendships and only one of them is the real deal. The
Epicureans would view friendshipas being something very important in life. To me, friendship is
both of these views put together with a few changes here and there.
To begin, Aristotle believed that there are three types of friendship. One of those three is a utility

The first people that come to mind when I think of this type of friendship is my soccer team
from high school. The girls and I shared similar interests which was evident since we were on
the soccer team together. We were all determined to win the games we played and had fun doing
it. Soccer brought us together and brought out our silly side since we let loose in practice.
However, once the season was over most of us stopped talking as often and we just waved hello or
goodbye to each other nothing more, and nothing less.
The Third and final type of friendship that Aristotle described is an authentic friendship. This
type of friendship is based on a person s character. It is rare, long lasting, and the end result of it
is we become better people. I have had the pleasure of coming by authentic friendship. My best
friend Joceline and I have known each other for six years. She is funny, smart, sarcastic, loud, fun,

was painfully shy and didn t want to have anything to do with anyone. However, I managed to
break her out of her shell, and she managed to help me build my confidence as well as to become
more open minded.

furthers her credibility. Plant biotechnology is Fedoroff s life s work, earning her a plethora of
honors and awards. Thus, it is only natural for her to be more in favor of the pro plant
biotechnology view she argues for in her book. However, Fedoroff maintains a neutral stance for

Nationalism has been used by many leaders to unify their people, but Nationalism is not always
used to unify. Some countries and nations have used Nationalism to divide their country or nation.
Many leaders have used Nationalism to unify their country or nation, like Otto von Bismarck. Other
leaders have used Nationalism to divide their country or nation, like Alexander III.
Nationalism is having pride in your country or nation. People show pride in their country or nation
by celebrating their country s national holidays and/or fighting for your country in the armed

Alexander III used Nationalism to divide the people of Russia, even though his intention was to
unify the people. Alexander III came to power after his father, Alexander II, was assassinated.
He quickly came to power and wanted to quickly set reform in Russia, since it is believed that
his father s reforms caused his assassination(Axelrod,1994). When he put his reforms into place,
he developed a concept of extreme Russian nationalism called Russification. He used
Russification to develop a purely Russian nation. Alexander III used Russification to get rid of
any nationality in Russia that is not Russian or any person in Russia that does not support his
reforms. Along with secular reform, religious toleration was sacrificed during this period. Russia
s Jews, perennial targets, were persecuted more harshly than ever, as were Russo Germans, Poles,
and Finns, whose crime was their failure to have been born 100 percent Russian (1994). Alexander
III started to become extremely harsh in getting rid of people that are not purely Russian, even
though they did not have a choice to be 100 percent Russian or not. In doing this, he made Russia a
uniform nation with no diversity, dividing the people who were 100 percent Russian from the
people who are not Russian. By using Russification, Alexander III actually divided the nation of
Russia, even though his intentions

Does Energy Have To Do With Acid Rain Essay
November 1st 2015
To the federal government:
The purpose behind this letter to you is to inform you with the big issue that is taking place in our
planet, which is the effect of acid rain on lakes and streams (aquatic systems).
Acid rain occurs because of the dissolution of acidic oxides in the atmosphere. When these two
compounds are released into the air, they form acid rain, which are nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide
S + O2 SO2, which is produced by natural means, like volcanoes and industrial processes such as
the burning of fossil fuels (brown coal) C + O2 CO2. The two compounds dissolve in water and are
carried very far by wind where they become part of snow and fog. Oxides from sulfur and nitrogen
react with moisture in the clouds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though acid rain is a big issue, there are ways it can be prevented. One of the biggest ways acid
rain can be stopped is by lowering your energy consumption. Now you might think, what does
energy have to do with acid rain ? It actually has a big affect. By switching off the lights when
you leave a room, turning off your computers televisions when they aren t being used. Closing the
air conditioner/heaters when you leave your home can make a big difference, because when less
electricity is used, the pollution from power plants decreases. Power plants also known as power
station is an electric generating station
Another way acid rain can be prevented is by using fewer cars! There are so many different ways
of transportation. You can use bikes if you aren t going a long distance, you can use a train, if you
live near a friends house you can car pool, and this all decreases reliance on fossil fuels. Cars also
emit carbon dioxide, which contributes to global warming which is affecting the environment. As
the temperature rises, more rain falls, which increases the risk of heavier flooding. Ice is melting,
and that is dangerous for future sea level rise. Also many countries already have very low water,
and when the climate changes it changes precipitation patterns, and increasing droughts, which is
dangerous because people are running out of water. But a positive impact is that electric cars are
better for the environment because they only use battery power, meaning there is no burning of
gasoline or other fossil

Global Market Forces Of Islamic Banking Essay
Abstract
It is undeniable fact that Islamic banking system has been flourishing for last few decades and
now has become the focus of global market forces. Pioneers of Islamic banking proclaim that
foundational principles of Islamic banking is allied with Shari ah guidance and their accounting
practices, policies and financial reporting mechanism is based on Sharai ah values. Consequently,
Islamic institutions have the responsibility to follow Islamic rulings in all their practices. The core
purpose of this study is to confirm that either current practices are align with Islamic ethical values
or just based on shari ah terminologies. However, author find that current practice of Modarbah are
not just contrary to its theoretical foundation of Islamic Banking but also to basic shari ah guidance
to some extent. It has been also identified that whenever an issue arises in Islamic banks they try
to make it shari ah compliant instead of resolving particular issue they are busy in just
manipulating or islamizing conventional banking products by using Shari ah terminologies to
capture the attention of Muslims who are thirsty for transparent ideal Islamic system. This
behavior of Islamic banks has made the practices of Islamic banks more controversial. Proper
implication of current study can make great contribution in the literature of Islamic banking as it
will help Islamic banks to review their practices in order to fulfill the basic ethical principles of
Islam.

Diabetes Mellitus ( Dm ) Comprises A Group Of Metabolic...
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) comprises a group of metabolic disorders that share the common
phenotype of hyperglycemia. Diabetes is a very debilitating disease, affecting approximately
8.3% of the adult population or 382 million across the world. The area most afflicted by diabetes
is the Western Pacific, which includes China affecting about 138 million. In the United States it is
approximated that 29.1 million (9.3% of the population) have diabetes. If the trend continues to
rise as it does, it is estimated that 592 million people worldwide will have diabetes by 2035.
Not only does diabetes wreak havoc on a person s state of health, it also has serious impacts on
our economy, especially in developing countries. It is estimated that the costs to treat and
prevent diabetes were about $548 billion in 2011. In the USA, $245 billion was spent towards
diabetes in 2012 and with the consistent rise in diagnosis, that number may be $500 billion by
2025. Diabetes can be categorized into a few categories, the well known sectors being type 1 and
type 2. Type 1 DM is characterized by complete insulindeficiency as opposed to type 2 DM (90%
95% of new cases of diabetes) which is characterized by variable degrees of insulin resistance,
impaired insulin secretion, and excessive hepatic glucose production. There also exist other, more
rare classifications of DM, which include: DM caused by genetic defects (ie. maturity onset

Three Rules To Live By Dale Carnegie Summary
In order to be successful at handling people this book states that there are 3 rules to live by; don t
criticize, condemn or complain, give honest as well as sincere appreciation and lastly, arouse in
the other person an eager want. Throughout part one of this book the author Dale Carnegie gives
many examples through history and his life that these rules are proved to be true due to some of
our nations biggest leaders and influences abided by them.
Carnegie wisely states that criticism is dangerous, because it wounds a person s pride, and hurts
their sense of importance, which, in time causes resentment toward the person who made the
criticism. B.F Skinner conducted an experiment to prove this. It was found that through praise dogs
learned more rapidly than with punishment. It was later tested to be true with humans as well. If
science wasn t enough, Carnegie also justifies this rule with examples of success from leaders such
as Benjamin Franklin and Abraham Lincoln who is quoted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

John Dewey, an American philosopher, believes that the deepest urge in human nature is the desire
to be important. William James also an American psychologist said the most valuable principle in
human nature is the craving to be appreciated. All three of these intelligent scientists had the same
idea in mind. Carnegie used this text to pull these ideas into one to form the second rule, give
honest and sincere appreciation. In the United States mental illness is the number one disease. Dale
Carnegie uses this fact to prove that people will literally drive themselves insane trying to find
the feeling of importance. To be successful at handling people the author gives us some advice
using Charles Shwabs words, a very successful investor I have yet to find a person who did not do

Jersey. At the time the inner city school flourished, and was successful in their education system
till the funding towards the school was cut by the mayor who wanted to save his budget. Over
the next 20 years the high school became overwhelmed with drug use, gang violence and poor
scores on the minimum basic skills standardized test. The movie focuses on a man named Joe
Clark, who used to be a teacher at Eastside High School 20 years before. In one of the opening
scenes the Mayor Bottman and Dr. Frank Napier discuss that if the school cannot meet minimum

were outraged by his actions. Soon afterwards the next day, Thomas Sams one of the students
Clark expelled, begs Clark to let him back into the school. In tears, Sams explains he doesn t
want to be a part of the crime gangs on the street anymore. At first Clark was skeptical, Sams was
in trouble multiple of times for smoking crack, but after a dramatic lecture about the harm crack
can do to a person he allows Sams back into the school. Under Clark s heavy hand the school
begins to undergo a transformation, the school walls were repainted and behavior of the students
at the school were better. Only problem is when Clark made the students take a practice minimum
basic skills exam, only 33% passed, the school needed 75% of their students to pass the test to not
have the school be put in receivership. Based on the low test scores principal Clark embarks on a
motivational campaign for the students, as he tries to not only motivate the students to learn, but

Summary Of The Interlopers And The Machine That Won The War
The Interlopers and The Machine That Won the War are two short stories that have many
differences, but have a few similarities as well. The Interlopers is a short tale depicting a feud
between two young men, Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym. Georg believes that the land
currently under Ulrich s name actually belongs to him, therefore steals game from Ulrich s land
just to spite him (Saki 82 83). After confronting each other, it is made clear that they both wish to
take the other s life (83). Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck a nearby tree, causing it to pin both
men to the ground (84). The Machine That Won the War
portrays the story of three men,
Lamar Swift, John Henderson, and Max Jablonsky, who are discussing Earth s victory in the war
against the planet Deneb (Asimov 1). Everyone believes that an ingenious computer called
Multivac won the war, until Henderson, Jablonsky, and Swift admit that they didn t trust the
information and changed it until they thought it appeared to be accurate (1 4). Differences in these
stories include: characters, settings, and wrong doings. A few similarities consist of the reasons
for actions explained in the stories, and what the characters rely on to make decisions and solve
problems. Through showing differences and similarities, it will be made clear that stories like this
that seem to have nothing alike can be related.

The Mirror In Sylvia Plath s Mirror
Sylvia Plath s, Mirror, takes hold of a young girl s misery with her reflection. The poem s
narrator is the mirror, that witnesses accounts of the girl s miserable life. The girl ridicules her
image, every day of her life, by looking into the mirror and watching closely her imperfections
taking over. As the girl grows older, the mirror becomes abundant with the girl s sorrow towards
her figure. The girl is drowning in her self loathing and can t find a way to overcome her reflection.
The narration of Mirror is not human, but a mirror that witnesses sorrow and despair of a young
girl transforming into a woman. The mirror neither judges nor lies. It does not shed opinions but
rather respects the ethical meaning of the truth. The mirror shows what is respectfully present. I
am not cruel, only truthful. (Plath 5). The speaker is not talking to one person but is messaging
the world, that a mirror will not show what you want. A mirror represents the truth. It doesn t hide
what is shown but embraces the person looking into the mirror, that whoever is looking in, is born
this way, and should not stray from it. Mirror is a free verse type of poem, which doesn t block the
poem from conveying the meaning of the poem. The poem is broken down into two stanzas, both
consisting of short sentences. The first stanza represents how the girl first realizes her image
through the mirror. The little girl understands what she looks like and that the mirror can t replace
her image with something

  • 2. The International Relations And Foreign Policies Decisions... The importance of Ethic in the study of the international relations and in foreign policies decisions by governments and others non states. The structure of individual estates and how they behave has been influenced by the constitution of the international system. In others words, due to the fact that states behave in an anarchy system, in which is not a high authority that protects them in case that they found themselves into international affairs with others states, it makes that states persuade the seeking of power, trough security competition, to ensure its survival. Due to the fact, that states are the major actors worldwide, to guarantee that the competition between them is not aggressively, for example, after Wars, in the settling of peace. Also, in cases of outlaw societies, that refuse to comply with the law of peoples (Rawuls, 1999, pp.4,90). At this point, it is when, the solutions of these conflicts must have a universal ethical basis and be directed by entities as non actors that have the political, economic, and most important, the moral power, to persuade states to change or modified their political policies. Also, implement regulations and norms basis in moral ethic to preserve the protection of human rights. • 3. The British Army The British Army during the American War of Independence served for eight years in battles fighting around the globe. Imprisonment at the Siege of Yorktown with a recipe of France and US force eventually led to the loss of the Thirteen Colonies in eastern North America Not only that, the Treaty of Paris robbed Britain many of the profits attained in the Seven Years War. However several victories in other places meant that much of the British Empire remained unbroken. The army suffered because of deficiency of peace spent and useless enlistment in that period since the Seven Years War. These circumstances had left it in a wrecked state at the burst of war in North America. To counterbalance the British, the government... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A lot of the early training was found to be insufficient, with officers unsure how to use light companies. In 1772, General George Townshend wrote Instructions, and Training and Equipping of the new Light Companies that was distributed to troops on the Irish founding and offered a hands on guide for training light companies and assistance for tactics. Townshend also introduced a new communication method for light bob officers when in control of carelessly positioned troops. By whistling different signals, it would specify an action. In 1774 William Howe wrote the Manual for Light Foot soldiers Drill and made an investigational Light Foot soldier s squad training at Salisbury camp. This then became the outline for all regular light foot soldiers helping in North America. Howe s system varied in that it fixated on development composite squadrons of light foot soldiers more appropriate to large scale group of soldiers in North America, rather than individual ... Secondly, Pier 1 has established product differentiation. Pier 1 provides unique products to their customers which builds customer loyalty and is less likely to lose market share to a competitor than an advantage based on cost (Faulkenberry, n.d.). Risk/Opportunity Challenges that face Pier 1 Imports include the rising cost of raw materials and low investments in research and development. There are also external business risks and changes within tax laws that prove to be a challenge for Pier 1. Opportunities that are available to Pier 1 Imports include new markets as well as new products and services. Also, in this era of DIY home improvement projects there is a growing demand for merchandise provided by Pier 1 Imports such as the pillar candle holder. • 5. Victor Frankenstein Film Analysis Victor Frankenstein 2015 Victor Frankenstein 2015 is a science fiction, thriller and horror film that is based on the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley. The film was directed by Paul Mcguian and starred Daniel Radcliffe as Igor and James McAvoy as Victor Frankenstein (McGuigan). Unlike other film adaptations based on the same novel, the film is narrated from Igor s perspective. Igor is a young assistant who is working closely with his over ambitious friend Victor. Victor is also a young medical student who will stop at nothing to achieve his scientific goals. The director lets the film rolls from Igor s perspective in order to allow the audience to understand and appreciate the emergence of Frankenstein as scientists that the audience knows to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He proves this when conversing with Igor in the lab when the latter says, Victor, you promised me that this was all about life , Victor remarks in awe that it was about so much more than life (Frankenstein). The film was written by Max Landis and is significantly different from most versions of the same story (Coming to Life). It attempts to take a third person perspective in order to reflect on the temperament of the main character, Victor Frankenstein. Using third person narration, Max manages to vilify Victor s character by shining a light on his recklessness. This is particularly important given that the Mary s novel allowed the audience to empathize with Victor due to the loss of his family members and fiancГ©. In this adaptation, the writer ensures that Victor is unhinged and carefree but a loyal friend to Igor and other people in his life. In addition to being brash, Victor is humorous in most of the scenes. This is implied when Igor pleads with him to rethink the experiments since the police were after the duo. While his friend Igor wanted to make a world a better place and hopefully be remembered for inventing new ways of healing the sick, Victor seeks to redefine the meaning of life and death. From the writing, it is clear that Victor did not really intend to get anybody hurt. His character is simply deranged and he ends up risking the lives of the people around him. The writer ... It was written during a time in which America s future was very uncertain. Wheatley tries to capture the American spirit and show how the nation truly felt. She uses the theme of freedom to embody what she thinks America is about as a country. The theme of a hero was also used by Wheatley to show Washington as a hero throughout the poem. Both themes develop as the poem goes on. One main theme of the poem is that of a Hero. That Hero being George washington himself. • 10. The Power of the Family in White Noise Essay examples The Power of the Family in White Noise Don Dellilo s protagonist in his novel White Noise, Jack Gladney, has a nuclear family that is, ostensibly, a prime example of the disjointed nature way of the family of the 80 s and 90 s what with Jack s multiple past marriages and the fact that his children aren t all related. It s basically the antipodal image of the 1950 s nuclear family. Despite this surface level disjointedness, it is his family and the extrasensory rapport that he shares with them allows Jack to survive in his world. Murray, Jack s friend, argues that The family is strongest where objective realityis most likely to be misinterpreted (82). Heinrich, Jack s son, explicates this notion in his constant ... So in recounting the smell of panties etc., and viewing such encounters with either irony, sympathy and fond amusement, Jack is able not only to affirm the present and escape the past, but accomplishes something much larger: namely the ability to affirm the realness of such feelings. Thus the family, in this instance Babette, serves as the medium through which Jack is able to overcome Heinrich s skepticism (which is representative of modern science (24)) as to the reality of human emotions. DeLillo s image, moreover, of Jack and Babette rescuing themselves from the past also suggests that without family or someone to commune with, man can become lost in the past. DeLillo s novel is almost obsessively concerned with appliances: TVs, radios, microwaves etc. They are omnipresent, not only in the characters worlds but within the narrative itself. DeLillo repeatedly interrupts his narrative with sentences like The TV said: And other trends that could dramatically impact our portfolio (61) or MasterCard, Visa, American Express (100) or That chirping sound was just the radiator (94). Just as Jack s world is one suffused with such objects, so too is the narrative, a technique which DeLillo uses to force the reader into Jack Gladney s world. Objects play a dualistic role in Jack s familial life. Jack tells us that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Importance of Not Being Late Essay Importance of not being late. In the following paper I will be discussing what series of actions brought me to write this paper, the army regulations surrounding said actions, the possible effects these actions might have on the accomplishment of the mission, the possible affects on your career, and how to discourage and possibly stop such things from ever happening soon or ever again. The reason I am being subject to this time consuming, uninspired, and rather lackluster writing assignment is because I failed to be at the correct place of duty at the time appointed to me by my superiors. If you are charged and found guilty under these articles you can be facing a multitude of outcomes none of which one would strife for. The commanding officer could be as lenient as letting you go with a stern yet fair warning and talking, you may find yourself picking up trash after work and during the weekends for anything between the parameters of seven to forty five days of extra duty. You may also suffer from the economical side of the house because they may decide to go ahead and cut your monthly pay in half for two whole months back to back. Last of the outcomes named here but the one that I personally believe to be the worst is the loss of rank. The can take one or all of the them depending on the severity of the cause being presented to the commanding officer. Rank is the thing that takes the most time to achieve the first time around coming up the ranks, to lose it after you have it makes it harder for you to be seeing as a professional and a soldier that is worth pushing forward to achieve to the next step in his career. Next we will discuss in this paper the impact such actions can have getting the mission finished, moral and appearance of the company or organization, and the direct impact it can have on the people you work closely with. Touch Reaction Times Visual, Auditory and Touch Reaction Times Nick Marshall, Jack Wilson, Angus Newman: 8F 4 /6/2018 Introduction: The purpose of this investigation is to examine the differences in reaction times when using different stimuli. This investigation relates to the nervous and brain systems in the human body. When your senses pick up clues from the outside world it takes a small amount of time for you to recognize the signal and respond. (Yuhas, 2018) Reaction time is the measure of speed from which your brain recognises a stimulus, to the reaction, possibly movement. The process of reacting is carried out by many neurons as well as numerous systems and circuits in the brain. (Yuhas, 2018). There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Previous studies produced results that show that touch is the fastest, then auditory and finally visual with the averagely slowest reaction time. This data suggests that visual stimuli cause the fastest reaction, followed by auditory, and finally touch. The average in time for visual stimuli was 0.170 seconds. Previous results have evidenced that visual stimulus is the slowest, with an average time of 0.25 seconds. This experiment contradicts these results. The second fastest reaction time was caused by an auditory stimulus. This produced an average reading of 0.176 seconds. This is similar to previous results. However, there is a small discrepancy of 0.006 seconds between the previous results and the results of this test. Finally, touch stimulus was the slowest in this experiment. This contradicts previous results. In other tests the touch stimulus was the fastest at 0.15 seconds, whereas in this experiment it was the slowest: 0.193 seconds. When gravity pulled the rulers to the mass of the earth, it took time for the subject to recognise the movement and to react to it. These results contradict previous experiments. The brain signals were processed on average more slowly than in previous experiments. However, this experiment could have been unfair and biased. When the auditory and touch tests were carried out, there was most likely a small amount of time between the call or touch and the ruler being dropped. Also, test subjects were changed throughout the experiment. This would have caused a discrepancy in the results, because different subjects may have had different personal reaction times due to several factors. Also, the age could have had an effect. In this experiment we used 13 year old test subjects. It is unknown of the age of the previous experiments. This experiment could have been improved by conducting more tests over a range of people to calculate a more global and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Superego Of Sigmund Freud Sigmund Freud, a renowned psychologist and psychoanalyst, is notably known for creating the idea of the id, the ego and superego. These three concepts, according to Freud, make up the human psyche and provide some insight and understanding into how the human mind works. These so called systems in the brain are in no way physical but together, they make up a whole and contribute towards an individual s behavior. The id is described as the primitive component of one s personality as it consists of everything biologically inherited at birth. This includes one s instincts and sexual desires. The id can be described as being impulsive and contains all of the drives and hidden urges of an individual. Repressed memories in the unconscious mind resides in the id. Freud believed that the id, ego and superego developed at different stages in an individual s life. A newborn child is all id, as it does not have the morals and social influences that come with the ego and superego. The ego, unlike the id, is partly conscious and partly unconscious. It serves as the intermediary between the id and the superego as it makes decisions based on reason, instead of unrealistically and logically (as the id would) or based on morality and societal influences (as the superego would). The ego would create the realistic ways to fulfill the id s demands that are impulsive and with little regard to any consequences. Defense mechanisms exist within the ego due to the fact that it often faces anxiety ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At certain points in history, gun sales to civilians have been prohibited by law. In 1976, Washington D.C. implemented a gun ban that potentially worsened the city s homicide rate. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, annual homicides rose from 188 in 1976 to 364 in 1988 and continued increasing to 454 in 1993. The gun ban was struck down by the Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller and since, homicides have steadily declined to 88 annual murders in 2012. This statistic shows that depriving the right to bear arms from law abiding citizens is ineffective in decreasing the number of homicides as criminals will find a way to obtain a gun even with a gun ban in place. The law abiding citizens will be left vulnerable as the criminals will have defenseless victims to attack. The United States has attempted to put gun bans into place in the past. However, these regulations have been repetitively ineffective. Because of the ineffectiveness of gun bans and the overall counter result of an increase in homicides, it would be in best interest, for the safety of Americans, to not implement an increase on Federal gun control ... Anita Desai s Clear Light Of Day Escapism in Anita Desai s Clear Light of Day Clear Light of Day, written by Anita Desai and published in 1980, tells the story of the siblings of the Das family living in Old Delhi. It tells the story of Bim, the eldest sister a history professor and caretaker of Baba, their youngest, autistic brother. She is a spinster who seems to have been left behind by everyone. Headstrong, intelligent and apparently sure of her choices, it seems that Bim has had no desire to escape her life. The novel also tells the story of Tara and of Raja, the two apparently more prosperous siblings, who both manage to escape the bleak atmosphere of the house; Tara through her marriage to Bakul, and Raja through his immersion in Urdu poetry and Islamic culture, his relationship with Hyder Ali, and consequently, his moving away to Hyderabad and marriage to Benazir. Escapism plays a very important role in the story of Anita Desai s Clear Light of Day. The focus of this essay is to explore how this theme affects the relationship between Bim and Raja. Best friends and partners in crime, Bim and Raja share a love of literature and poetry, and are the closest of the four siblings. Eventually, however, Raja s admiration of Hyder Ali leads him to Urdu poetry and an interest in Islamic culture, seeking an escape from the stifling, insipid atmosphere of his own home and life. Changes In The Ottoman Empire The decrease of the Ottoman state made the beginning of reform essential, while in the meantime expanded the bartering force of capable European nations that wished to advance their own particular investments. These states meddled with the interior undertakings of the Ottoman state and pushed for changes with the point that, through the presentation of reforms, they would promote new opportunity and better guarantees for existing interests. Meanwhile, these states expected that a further decrease in the Ottoman Empirewould strengthen political and military unsteadiness in the Balkans, which consequently could also debilitate the security of Europe. Determined by need and political weight, in the early 19th century, the Ottoman Empire presented an arrangement of political changes known as Tanzimat. Among others, these changes went for reinforcing further the guideline toward oneself of different non Muslim amasses and acquaint their political uniformity with the Muslims under the idea of Ottomanism. Many of his soldiers fell to the side of the road with blisters on their feet, unable to walk anymore. After several days of this, Van Dorn s army finally reached Bentonville (Civil). Despite Van Dorn s speedy march through the wintry terrain, the Federals, under General Samuel Curtis, had learned of the Confederate advance from a Unionist resident of Fayetteville. Music can construct, represent and portray ones identity, showing others and our self who we are and what makes our identity. Coming from a western society, musical identity can often become very clouded. Music is usually produced for a global audience in western culture and intended to top the charts, meaning it can be difficult to find one identity in this music. Saying this doesn t mean that music wont play a role in ones identity in western culture, on contrary music makes its way into many parts of who we are. On the other hand, the song Mad World by Gary Jules, communicates the daunting prospect of losing one s individual identity as a consequence of belonging to a conformist society. Emily Dickinson s poetry confirms belonging is a yearning, which most humans seek to satisfy simply because we are social beings. The sheer complexity of the emotional aspects involved with belonging may be seen in the belonging estrangement paradox; highlighted by the fact that those who know her know her less and that those who attempt to understand belonging and nature are incapable of understanding nature s ghost and hidden secrets. Dickinson seems to be looking into a lid of glass , the surface of the water, or what we perceive as life, and personifies the surface by calling it an abyss s face highlighting life s immeasurable depth, whilst also implying through the connotations of glass being similar to a mirror that we ourselves may never be able to understand our purpose and place in this life. In an attempt to understand nature Dickinson uses personification, describing nature as a female entity, to make it is easier to interact with something living rather than that which is inanimate. Unlike the poetry of Emily Dickinson, the song Mad Worldby Gary Jules explores the conformity of today s society, which is shown to inevitably darken one s outlook on life. Jules apathy reveals how this form of belonging is quite destructive; as he communicates that individuality becomes redundant in a world of anonymity.
