How Did Plato Argue The Soul
In this brief segment of Plato s work he is trying to argue that the soul, rather than being one, actually
has different parts. He claims and tries to justify that the soul must have three different parts to it, each
responsible for creating different urges that a person has. On page 111 of Plato s Republic he
establishes that the same one thing will not experience opposites within the same one part of itself
over the same thing, at the same time. So, therefore if someone finds this occurring in the soul it can
be established that the soul is not one but instead made out of different parts. He then shows an
example of this occurring in the soul in order to argue the soul does indeed have parts. On pages 114
and 115 he says that someone can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The premise of the same thing will not undergo opposites within the same part of itself in regards to
the same thing at the exact same time, so therefore when the soul gives you two opposite urges (e.g.
thirsty but you don t want to get a drink) it proves that the soul must have different parts, is a premise
that I do indeed agree with. I believe what Plato is saying here as I do not think the same part of one s
soul can be responsible for making someone have two completely opposite urges. I also agree with the
premise that there is a third part to the soul, the spirit. At first I questioned it thinking that this was
indeed one in the same with the rational but then the good point is made that small children are clearly
full with spirit yet are not rational so therefore they cannot be one in the same. This argument sold me
on the third part of the soul. The one argument I couldn t get on board with was when Plato wrote that
thirst is just for drink, and not one of a specific kind. I think that personally one can be craving a
specific type of drink, regardless of environment, (e.g. orange juice) and their thirst will not be
quenched by any drink but by only the drink they are craving. Plato makes it seem that one cannot
urge a specific drink but only drink in general. Although I do disagree with that specific part, in the
end the overall argument was

Their leader Kim Jong Il is viewed as almost being a deity whose methods cannot be questioned and is
always correct. The ruthless dictatorship is the main personification that is associated when thinking
of North Korea.
Introduction This report is a cultural analysis of the country of North Korea. The paper itself analyzes
the history, geography, education, language, economy, and politics of the Democratic People s
Republic of Korea known simply as: North Korea. Group 4 chose this particular country out of
curiosity and the want to find out what the nation was like. Not many facts are known about North
Korea and its shady past. This project explores everything from the difficult relationships between the
Korean people and their government, to the famines and floods that threatened the entire survival of
the country. The research has shed light on the corruption of the North Korean government and the
reign of ruthless leaders such as Kim Il Sung and his son Kim Jong Il. The politics of North Korea
have been questionable at best in the nation s history. Finally they are making progress to renew laws
that better fit into North Korean society, but the process is slow. Change does not come to North
Korea quickly. This paper will delve into the little known aspects of North Korea. Hopefully, a better
understanding of the country s characteristics can benefit both the neighboring

Railroad Conductors
Railroad Conductor
Sturgill Simpson, a railroad conductor once quoted, I worked for Union Pacific. I started out as a
conductor at an intermodal switching facility outside of Salt Lake City. We d pull in trains from all
over the country, break them apart, consolidate the freight, and build other trains. It was great until I
screwed up and took a management position. Then it became no fun very quickly (Sturgill Simpson
Quotes). The foundation of railroad conducting is in the hands of laborers. This career is for those who
need to keep busy and interested throughout the day. As one prepares for a future in the field of
railroad conducting, one must consider the history, the educational requirements, the duties and
responsibilities, the benefits, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most conductors started out as steamboat or coastal packet captains before working a job on the
railroad (Lives on the Railroad). Steamboats and ships were the means of transportation of the time for
passengers and freight until the invention of the railroad. With the expansion of the railroad, one of the
conductor s job responsibilities was to keep the train on schedule (Lives on the Railroad). The railroad
became a popular alternative for freight transportation and for passengers ( Railroad Conductors 279).
The railroad offered a faster convenience for travel. Conductors sold tickets to passengers and counted
the tickets to keep records in order (Lives on the Railroad). Maintaining proper records was important
for business. Also, making a list of the names that the tickets were sold were important so that one
could be found on a train. It was also important for the conductors to keep the passengers safe from
the weather elements and to rushing sparks from the firebox that helped power the locomotive
(Railroad Conductors 279). Most trains had open windows or no covers on them exposing all of the
passengers to all of the rain, snow, or wind. Today, conductors are responsible for the operation of the
train. Conductors are required to have knowledge of how the train operates including the engine, the
cargo, the cars, and the trains signal systems (Railroad Conductors 279). Having knowledge of the
train s controls insures the safety of the trains passengers and cargo and make sure the train arrives on

Impact Of Slavery On The Indian Ocean
Slavery in the Western Hemisphere has had an unmistakable impact on the the world and for those
who live in the United States of America, it s impact is still seen today. For the most part this impact
has been negative on the United States seeing as though it brought about immense racial tension
between blacks and whites which is still today, crippling the nation. This type of slavery did not allow
for upward mobility in the slave community. Seeing that Slavery across the Indian Ocean was not
based upon race, and more upon social class and sexuality, there was more of a sense of upward
mobility in the Indian Ocean slave trade than there was in the transatlantic slave trade which involved
more brutal treatment based upon race. Today, slavery is known as one of the most inhumane acts of
mankind. Slaves were brought over from their countries, mainly from the western and southern coast
of Africa, to work for the Europeans without pay. Not only were they without pay, they were brought
over in boats, packed on all decks of the ship in such a way that was comparable to a can of sardines.
Slaves were taken and shipped to countries in South America and North America, to work on
plantations to harvest plants such as, Tobacco, Cotton, Sugarcane, and Indigo. These slaves worked 20
hour days on these plantations and were rewarded with slave quarters which were in most cases in
unlivable conditions. No matter what state of health a slave was in, they were expected to work

The Importance Of Being Earnest Analysis
The play, The Importance of Being Earnest written by Oscar Wilde, describes two main protagonists
living in 1890 s England, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff (Algy), who, for the sake of love,
both use the same name (Ernest) to conceal their true identity. Algy has a cousin named Gwendolen
Fairfax, whom Jack is in deep love with. On the other hand, Algy falls in love with Jack s ward, who
is Cecily Cardew. At first, everything goes well, until both Jack and Algy end up together in the
country, leading to a comedy of mistaken identities. The play uses satire to ridicule the issues such as
money, marriage, and social status during the Victorian Age. The upper class society of the Victorian
period can be exemplified by the characters to give us knowledge and understanding of the play. One
scene where Lady Bracknell disapproves of Algernon s proposal to Cecily because she thinks that
Cecily does not possess a lot of money nor social status. As such, Wilde believes that the Upper class
Victorian society should not take trivial matters such as money, marriage, social status, and
appearance seriously.
According to Wilde, Lady Bracknell disapproves Algernon s proposal to Cecily because she thinks
that Cecily is not nearly good enough for Algernon. This is evident by the line: Ah! A life crowded
with incident, I see; though perhaps somewhat too exciting for a young girl. I am not myself in favour
of premature experiences (Wilde). As Lady Bracknell is the quintessence of society in the Victorian
era, she believes that social status and wealth is of the utmost importance and that marrying someone
without money is intolerable. Jack, knowing that Lady Bracknell is a materialistic person, persuades
her sarcastically, Oh! About a hundred and thirty thousand pounds in the Funds. That is all. Goodbye,
Lady Bracknell. So pleased to have seen you . (Wilde) Lady Bracknell changes her mind immediately
after knowing that Cecily is wealthy and has large funds: A moment, Mr. Worthing. A hundred and
thirty thousand pounds! And in the Funds! Miss Cardew seems to me a most attractive young lady,
now that I look at her (Wilde). Lady Bracknell consents the marriage of Algernon and Cecily because
of Cecily s Wealth. This is

Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice
Introduction Gender bias, sexual harassment, and lack of training have been an ongoing struggle for
women in policing and it continues in today. I will be discussing this issue and will assess its past,
present and future implications as they relate to the Criminal Justice System. I will be discussing my
assessment of the past history and present circumstances of woman in policing. I will also include my
predictions and recommendation of how these issues should be addressed by the police and prosecutor
in the future.
Implications
Dating back to the 1970 s sexism was not considered to be a form of discrimination. Women faced the
perception of the public that a women s place was in the home; a woman s role was to cook, clean, and

Thirty nine agencies were surveyed (19 adult, 16 youth, and 4 combined), and all agencies had
formalized training programs. The results showed that forty six percent of the agencies offered
training to address specific needs of female employees. Seventy six percent required all staff to take
courses in sexual harassment awareness. Fifty nine percent offered training to decrease gender and
race bias/stereotyping and to increase awareness and understanding of gender differences. The
primary concern, voiced by 36 percent of these agencies, was for training to understand and help
eliminate sexual harassment. (Federal Prisons Journal, 1994, p. 1 23). The courts and statutes
recognize two forms of sexual harassment. Quid pro quo is explained as something for something.
This occurs when a supervisor or manager requests sexual favors, has made sexual advances that are
unwelcome, or engages in physical conduct of a sexual nature. Hostile work environment is a situation
where a non employee, co worker, or supervisor may be the basis for the sexual harassment claim. A
hostile work environment can be created by suggestive pictures or comments, unwanted physical
contact, obscene gestures, sexual jokes, and other contact that interferes with an

Art Museum And Its Effects On Sexual History
Attending the world s largest erotic art museum has encouraged me to view sexuality with a more
opened minded perception. Sexuality is very diverse for instance, in the way sexual acts are performed
and carried out. Historically, it seems that individuals are biologically and genetically programmed to
seek out sexual behaviors with others. Either for the means of reproduction or their own personal
pleasure, but one thing is very evident sex is pleasurable and enjoyable for most. However, cultural
restraints have had the biggest effect on sexual history and throughout the museum that is a
fundamental element of human sexuality that is apparent in the many paintings and sculptures. The
entire collection properly displays sexuality through the race, culture, religion, political affiliations,
and historical time. It was exhilarating to observe many artist viewpoints of sexual behavior. For
instance, in the lithograph, titled Garden of Earthly Delights , by Hieronymous Bosch, in 1500 A.D.
the portrait portrayed elements of the earth entwined with sexuality. A fascinating aspect is that
humans and animals are sexual creatures, and the earth represents the land and the basis for which all
sexual behaviors are carried on. It is also interesting that the piece not only represents behaviors
occurring at day, but also at night, and the elements within the picture such as the colors utilized are
very representative of the artist perception within the cultural norms of that time.

The Tragedy Of The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire
Frances Perkins
1. Identify your individual and BRIEFLY summarize their background (one paragraph, at most).
Frances Perkins came from a wealthy family in Maine. From her mother, she inherited the propensity
to be stingy with money, earnest, and brutally honest. In 1902, she attended Mount Holyoke College,
where she used her glibness to barely get by. Instead of focusing on improving her strengths, Frances
professors sought to improve her weaknesses; Especially her moral ones. This was done with the idea
in mind that if she were to overcome her shortcomings, she would be able to conquer anything life
threw at her. After graduation, Frances struggled to find something meaningful to do with her life;

To this she an again declined the offer, thinking that she was the wrong person for the job, however,
Roosevelt didn t let her off the hook and insisted that she accept. However, her acceptance came with
an ultimatum. If she were to become Secretary of Labor, then Roosevelt would have to put a major
focus on insurance policies, unemployment relief, a refined public works program, minimum wage
laws, social security for the retired, and the abolishment of child labor.
After Roosevelt agreed to the terms, she joined his cabinet becoming a champion of the New Deal ;
being central to the creation of the new Social Security system, developing the Civilian Conservation
Corps, the Federal Works Agency, and the Public Works Administration, Establishing the first
minimum wage law, and resisting the idea of drafting women in the second World War, placing them
in jobs vacated by men. Like her I find great joy in helping other in need. After reading how she
fought to provide help for the mistreated laborers I was moved by her humanitarianism.

Frances Adam I tendencies include: surprising herself to achieve her goals, changing her appearance
to gain the acceptance of her fellow politicians, keeping the state of her husbands mental health under

Crown Insurance Services Case Analysis
CLAW3201 Case Analysis
Introduction
In Crown Insurance Services Ltd v Commissioner of Taxation (Crown), the issues raised are pertinent
to the residence and source of the company under s6(1) of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936. As
cases are determined on the basis of all relevant facts and circumstances of each case, this analysis
will focus on how the court s decision process determined whether Crown had carried on business in
the years 2004 2007 inclusive and the existence of central management and control (CM amp;C) in
Australia. The purpose of this is to assess the valuation of Crown s taxable income, which ultimately
resulted in the objective decision to be set aside in favour of the applicant. Evaluation will be made in

Following from this, it is logical to assume that Mr Pattenden had dealt with the reception and
decision towards the valuation of claims while residing in Australia, as it would be extremely
unrealistic for him to travel to Vanuatu each and every single time he received a claim that needed
processing. When now compared to Malayan Shipping, Crown appears to possess much of the same
indicative facts that had caught Malayan Shipping as a resident of Australia. Mr Sleigh had similarly
made decisions relating to his business while in Australia and had drafted contracts that were then
intended to be signed outside of Australia. This was seen as the essential test confirming both carrying
on business and CM amp;C in Australia. It is therefore possible to suggest that should Crown be
further tested in a higher court in the future, highlighting the case of Malayan Shipping and focusing
more on CM amp;C could potentially alter the case outcome.
Current state of law (200 250 words)
The law of Residence and Source within Australia has been both and unclear and problematic, thus
creating uncertainties that have recently been magnified with factual application and technology
changes that allow remote management (Dirkis 2005). Even cases as similar as

Cultural Expectations Of Date Women
When a male and female go out for a date night it is expected that the male take on all responsibilities.
The male is supposed to open doors, pull out dinner chairs, pay the dinner tab, as well as pay for other
places the date may consist of, and more. Basically, on a date women are supposed to be pampered
while the men do absolutely everything. Why? Because this is a cultural expectation that started years
ago and we have hung on to it. I think other people would find it odd or abnormal to have the roles
reversed and the female do what the man usually would. The breaching exercise I experimented with
was taking on the role of a male during a date night.

Loyalty And Loyalty For United Airline s Frequent Flyer...
Loyalty
While I m an atypical U.S. consumer who doesn t buy into marketing hype, I do have strong
product/service loyalty affiliations. I ll try to keep my Journal entry under 1000 words! I like to revisit
the meaning of familiar words. Merriam Webster (n.d.) defines loyalty as, The quality or state or an
instance of being loyal . This is exactly what brand loyalty and loyalty programs are trying to create:
an ongoing experience with multiple touch points that captures followers and keeps them engaged
through rewards, added value, and prestige . The goal is to lengthen the lifetime value of the customer
(Tanner Raymond, 2010, p. 284) which helps to maximize profits.
My Loyalties
For some brands, my loyalty grew from happenstance and remains so because of switching costs.
United Airline s frequent flyer program, called Premiere is one example, more so, since their spreader
effect enticed me into a United branded credit card that awards flight miles for every purchase. I didn t
set out to join United s loyalty program because I thought their service was better, or they had lower
airfares, it s because they have a hub in San Francisco that offers the most flight options when I m
traveling by air for business.
For other products, affinity is a result of my family s subtle influence, and probably why I favor Coke
over Pepsi. I d like to think that I chose to prefer one over the other, but it s more likely because my
parents drank Coke, which I grew accustomed to, and why

Significance Of The Diwali Festival
Diwali is undoubtedly the brightest and the biggest among the festivals of Hindu religion. The word
Diwali means a row of light and is derived from the two words deep which means light and avali
which means a row. The celebration lasts for four days and each of the days has different tradition but
the night of main festival coincides with darkest new moon night of Hindu calendar. Generally this
festival comes in the month of October or November. During the festival, the whole country gets
illuminated with light and dazzles with joy. Each and every day of the festival of light and
illumination is marked by different tradition by different communities. But the celebration, enjoyment

This festival is not only about the outer illumination but also promotes awareness of inner feelings

eternal source of energy known as soul. The festival depicts realization of this inner power which

Stradivarius Violin Research Paper
The construction of the Stradivarius violin is very unique compared to the build of other violins,
whether they were made centuries ago or serve as modern day instruments. While there are a number
of other rare violins and instruments of different kinds, not even one has ever came remarkably close
to achieving what Antonio Stradivari has with the making of his stringed instruments, in particular, his
violins. Over the years there have been many attempts to reproduce the authentic sound quality of his
instruments, but no one has ever been able to achieve this goal. What exactly makes the Stradivarius

Stradivari was actually well in touch with the results of other impressive instruments that had been
constructed before his. He was able to gain experience by comparing the many instruments built by
the early Brescian and Cremonese makers by deducing from them the aspects that made them
unfavorable and applying these aspects to his own creative works. Every generation has contributed
something to the construction of musical instruments, and Stradivari combined these centuries of
contributions to create something astounding that opened up a new chapter in history. While it is a
known fact that Stradivari got a lot of inspiration from previous violinmakers (Visconti, who is a well
known violinist, is said to have given advice to this master of violin construction), people insist that he
was a natural born genius, so much so that he has been claimed to be a superhuman . Based on
scientific principles, many different works have been written based on the unsurpassed tonal qualities
found in his instruments. However, there has also been a daily study of Stradivari s works that were
compared to those of the craftsmen who came before him. When put to the test it was found that the
density of the bellies and backs of Stradivari s instruments were made based on the principles of
Gasparo, in addition to the result of a gradual progression, which Maggini and Amatis had in common
with him. Those who have examined his work have noted that Stradivari adjusted the thickness of his
instruments, but there is no indication that he used any principles as a guide other than what has been
derived from the practices of his forerunners. Stradivari left the backs and bellies of his instruments a

6TH Marine Regiment Research Paper
LCPL Dubuisson, Bryce A. 20160922 The History of 6TH Marine Regiment The 6TH Marine
Regiment is an infantry regiment of the United States Marine Corps based at Marine Corps Base
Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The regiment falls under the command of the 2nd Marine Division of
the II Marine Expeditionary Force. In 1917, the 6TH Marine Regiment was ativated on 11 July at
Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia to fight in World War I1. In early 1918, 6TH Marine Regiment
joined the 5TH Marine Regiment and the 6TH Machine Gun Battalion to form the 4TH Brigade. In
March of 1918 near Verdun the Marine Brigade entered th trenches of the Toulon Sector, where the
regiment suffered its first combat casualties1. Being forced to wear Army uniforms the only thing
Marines had to to set themselves apart was a cover with an eagle globe and ancore. This did not sit
will ith the marines so they desiged a patch. It had a black shield white star and indian head with a full
war dress2. The black was to mourne and respect their fallen brothers, the shield stood for defense of
each other and their country, the star was to show respect for the marines commanding general Bridger
Genral John A lejeune, and the indian head was to show the fighting spirte of the marines themselves2.

Jean Renoir Rules Of The Game Film Techniques
Film has often been an accurate representation of a time period s culture. Rules of the Game is no
exception with its portrayal of women and their relationships with each other and with men. Jean
Renoir uses Rules of the Game to make statements on the expectations and perceptions of women by
techniques of cinematography. Although often not a favorable representation, Renoir portrays women
differently than society would have expected. Through camera focus, angles, and distance, Jean
Renoir demonstrates the contradictions between the expectations of women and the reality of their
behavior, but with negative undertones. Renoir uses mirrors and camera angles to represent Christine
and Lisette s flaws of character and the deception in their

The Five Factor Model Of Personality
The five factor model (FFM) is a contemporary construct describing personality. It incorporates five
traits openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism also referred to as
OCEAN. Within each dimension, there are specific personality attributes, for example, openness
includes subcategories of feelings and actions. The FFM was influenced by Cattell s 16 factor model
(1957) and shares traits with many other personality theories such as Eysenck s PEN model. There has
been an ongoing debate discussing how many factors appropriately represent the brain structure of
personality, suggestions have varied from 2 7, recently Almagor et al. (1995) advocated that a 7 factor
model unfolds when evaluative traits are involved. Costa Mcrae (1992) claim that the FFM is the best
theory of personality, however, the model has received much criticism. Through examining different
aspects of the model its credibility can be explored. Universality is the core basis of a credible theory,
studies have been found to replicate the five factors of personality repeatedly. However, this evidence
has been obtained purely from replications involving urban and literate populations. Gurven et al.
(2013) examined the universality of the theory further by obtaining a sample consisting of 632
Tsimane forager horticultural inhabitants of Bolivia. The sample was, therefore, illiterate and from a
native society an area of study not previously conducted for the FFM. The

Modern Technology Impact
Due to advancement of technology world has become modern, everything has been changed rapidly.
Modern technology is drastically changing the world s living standards that result, people can achieve
everything easily. As we move into the twenty first century, it is clear to see that we have become
more and more dependent on computers, such as computer are use every filed like School, Office and
Aeroplan. My strongly believed that technology has the biggest impact on the world.
To begin with, Internet and e mail have changed the way people communicate with each other.
Internet gave many benefits. It is a good means of communication, a fast access to information. We
are communicate with each other, share their ideas, happiness and difficulties. We have a great
opportunity to find out more about countries and history of the world. The modern means of
transportation helps to people to move from one place to another very fast. A few years ago, it was
impossible to imagine waking up in one country and falling asleep in another, as a result of all
mentioned above the boundaries between countries, their traditions and customs are erased. However,
some of them are looking for a better place to live, others want to get new experience and knowledge.
Many families are created between people from different countries.

Essay On Robin Williams Suicide
Does Suicide Lead to Depression?
Robin Williams the famous actor from Chicago Illinois. Was born July 21st, 1951 and he died August

total of Twentyfour years he had three kids. Williams was diagnosed with depression and Parkinson s
disease. Sarah Larimer and Medical history authorities said that Williams had an increase of paranoia
(Robin Williams).
Robin was a wonderful actor, so it was no wonder nobody, not even his wife saw this coming. On
august 11th Williams was declared dead at 12:02am. He had ended his life by a successful suicide
attempt in his home. He had shown no signs of wanting to commit suicide .(Robin Williams.) Said
Susan Schneider, Williams third wife said and D Harris had reported it.Robin Williams is an example
how depressing it is leading to suicide. The most common age of committing suicide is the ages
between fifteen and Twenty Four. As of right now more and more people are making suicide attempts.
There are many reasons to why people want to end their lives. There s one main reason for the most
suicide attempts and that is depression. So the real issue is depression and all the questions that come

College Preparedness Essay
People choose to go to college for a myriad of reasons. Some attend college because of the
expectations of their parents or society. Others go to college because of the increased earning potential
that a college education can provide. Still others decide to go to college to expand their knowledge in
an area of particular interest. William Cory, a 19th Century English schoolmaster said, You go to
school not for knowledge so much as for arts and habits. The arts and habits that Cory proposes that
students are pursuing are certainly things that a student might learn in college. However, I don t think
that many people enter college with a goal of achieving the mental courage and mental soberness that
Cory proposes. Colleges, on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people might not appreciate these requirements at the time, but may find an interest in a subject
they never would have explored had it not been an educational requirement. College students are also
required to take classes that teach them to write research papers. The process of researching and
writing these papers can teach students new habits. Among these are what Cory calls, assuming . . . a
new intellectual posture and regarding minute points of accuracy. However, it would be a mistake to
believe that a college is the only place one could acquire these habits and self knowledge.
If Cory is correct that students go to a great school to learn the habit of working out what is possible in
a given time, for taste, for discrimination, then one could conclude that those who haven t gone to
college lack those traits. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 39% of students
enrolled in colleges in 1999 were twenty five years or older. (NCES, 1) This would seem to indicate
that many people are delaying their education for various reasons. Some go directly to the work force
after high school for financial reasons. Others might join the military or choose to explore the world
around them before going to college. There are also some students who may feel they are not cut out

Brideshead Revisited Essay
There is a snake in Eden; corruption in paradise. To what extent do you agree that the Brideshead
estate embodies a corrupted paradise in the novel? June 2010 Within the context of pastoral literature,
change is typically seen as a destructive force, intrinsic with the movement away from a harmony with
the natural world towards modernisation and corruption. In Brideshead Revisited the same pattern
appears to be followed; moving from the peaceful harmony of Sebastian and Charles life in Oxford
into corruption and turmoil or the shifting power balance between the social classes, from the nobility
to the lower classes. However, change is not exclusively a negative force in the novel.

Waugh describes their first encounter with the girls at May Mayfield s as a sickly child and Death s
Head , names foreshadowing the downfall and deterioration that will result. It is as a result of this
night that Sebastian is arrested and tried for drunk driving, and introduces them to the realities of adult
life. It is because of this episode that the Marchmain family are shamed in the newspaper, perhaps
worsening Lady Marchmains over reaction to Sebastian s drinking later in the novel. This illustrates
clearly how even in these youthful days that Charles cherishes so much, there was chaos which
corrupted the serene life with Sebastian which he chooses not to dwell on.
Waugh presents corruption in terms of the hierarchy of society, with the nobility exclusively
privileged to positions of power, as nought but as negative through his portrayal of Hooper. Charles
states in the prologue that Hooper is a symbol to me of Young Britain ; notably Hooper is not
presented as an overly inspiring, promising or likeable character. The use of young has connotations of
the working class were just coming of age and beginning to have the means to hold positions of power
and influence, as well as suggesting a major change in the Britain; an old way of life has been left to
be replaced by a new one. It could be argued that Charles is presenting the traditional world as being
corrupted with the changing, modernised world.
Catholicism is a main focus

Self Perceived Prototypicality In Self-Verification Of...
The Role of Self Perceived Prototypicality in Self Verification of Group Members In many of previous
theories and research, the concept of prototypicality has been highly relevant in examining the nature
of group membership and inter and intra group behaviours (Kleef et al., 2007; Steinel et al., 2010;
Ellemers Jetten, 2013). Based on self categorisation theory, prototypicality is defined as the position
within the group according to the degree to which one represents the group s most typical
characteristics (Oakes, 1996; Gómez, Jetten Swann, 2014). An individual is considered to be a core
member when they possess most of the defining features of the group, and a peripheral group member
when they display only some of the features. Numerous

Reebok Pump Synthesis Essay
Reebok has advertised their new shoe, called the Pump. In doing so they use diction, sentence
structure (syntax), and visual images to appeal the Pump to readers. This makes the ad stand out. It

The visual imagery in the ad are the various pictures in the ad, and anything that is not written out. An
example of visual imagery within the ad is the picture on the front right side of JJ Watt dragging a sled
while wearing the Pump shoes. This picture gives added meaning to the shoes. Usually, such drills as
the one depicted are performed with cleats by football players for the added grip provided. However,
in the picture in the ad, JJ Watt does the drill with a pair of the Pump shoes. Because he is doing it in
those shoes, this example of visual imagery is showing how these shoes, the Pump, can replace cleats
because of how good they are and how good grip they provide. That their grip is incredibly good and
reliable, thus making the shoe, the Pump, appear even better. This example of visual imagery then
contributes to the author s purpose. Because it shows how these shoes can be as good as cleats with
their great and reliable grip, and maybe even better than cleats because JJ Watt is using them for his
shoes in the drill rather than using cleats, it enforces the statement that the shoes the Pump are perfect.
The Pump is perfect for whatever the reader needs them for, no matter what it is. Visual imagery is
also used on the front side, being more prominent on the left side, but it goes across the whole page. It
is the fire. The fire is an example of visual imagery, making the entire ad seem much more intense. It
makes things seem to get heated up, as if you were using the Pump in a workout and you were
working really hard. This example of visual imagery contributes to the author s purpose. Sports can be
intense and they usually are intense, much like the fire depicted in the visual imagery example. This
starts to accelerate the blood flow, as if something is about to happen or you want to do something,
like work out or run. This leads to the question of what you should wear while doing that, and the ad
suggests that you wear the

history of algebra Essay
Unlike geometry, algebra was not developed in Europe. Algebra was actually discovered (or

the system of math to be known as the algebra of today. European countries did not obtain information
on algebra until relatively later years of the 12th century. After algebra was discovered in Europe,
mathematicians put the information to use in very remarkable ways. Also, algebraic and geometric
ways of thinking were considered to be two separate parts of math and were not unified until the mid
17th century.

solutions of equations. In 1145AD, Al Khwarizmi s book was translated by Robert Chester, which

European mathematicians developed and expanded on algebra concepts. Even though algebra began in

From the period of 1145AD the late 16th century, many mathematicians developed on algebraic

light was made of particles, discovered the rate of cooling objects, and the binomial theorem. His most
important works were the development of calculus. However, Newton did not work alone on creating

Norman Rockwell s See America First
Norman Rockwell s painting, See America First, features a Native American man wrapped in a red
blanket standing by his mailbox. In his hand is a flyer that reads, See AMERICA FIRST, a popular
slogan in the early twentieth century intended to encourage Americans to spend their money on tourist
attractions within the United States rather than traveling to Europe and investing in their culture.
Discarded by the man s feet is the envelope in which the flyer came, indicating that, excited to have
received mail, the man opened the envelope immediately. This excitement, however, was short lived.
The man s frown and raised, drawn together eyebrows suggest he is disappointed with the contents of
the envelope. His closed off body language indicates a sort of fragility that elicits the audience s
sympathy. Standing next to his worn down mailbox, the man s weary eyes stare almost accusingly at
the audience. The Native American man s piercing gaze sends a clear message: Native Americans are
left behind by American nationalism. Rockwell s ironic tone in See America First and use of color
symbolism and perspective serve to express the plight of Native Americans and their lack of identity

Hydrilla Florida Waterways Case Study
VIII. Interdisciplinary Understanding/Solution
In studying the problem of hydrilla Florida waterways, it was apparent that management of this
invasive species must take an interdisciplinary approach. The economic indicators with the possibility
of lost revenue, water usage, and habitat biodiversity drive the need for control. According to Corn, at
the federal level there is a need for comprehensive legislature to address invasive species. The current
process in reporting an invasive species problem can run into time constraints working through the
many agencies to achieve funding. A rapid response is desired to quickly remove the plant before it
spreads beyond the ability to control. It is believed that hydrilla is so wide spread today that control
can only be achieved through managing feasible levels of it within the limits of funding. Two new

Separation Between Classes In Pride And Prejudice And My...
Movie Text Analysis: Class Separation between classes has been evident ever since societies have
been begun. At some points in history, the differences in the classes were more noticeable than other
times. The movies, Pride and Prejudice and My Fair Lady, represent different classes, and how they
interact with each other. Even though the movies are set in different time periods, the interactions
between the classes are very similar. Although both movies show the differences of the society classes,
My Fair Lady shows the differences of the classes in a more obvious manner than Pride and Prejudice
which tends to show the differences in a more subdued manner. In Joe Wright s 2005 Pride and
Prejudice, the setting is around the beginning of the 1800 s in rural England. The audience is
introduced to the Bennett family that includes five unwed daughters. Since the daughters have no
inheritable rights, they must be married before their father dies. Their rural town does not have many
suitors in it, before the rich Mr. Bingley rents a large country home with his sister, and a good friend,
Mr. Darcy. Seeing an opportunity, Mrs. Bennett makes sure Mr. Bingley is introduced to her
daughters. Love kindles between Mr. Bingley and the oldest daughter, Jane, but misconception and
class separates them. The second eldest, Elizabeth, and Mr. Darcy let pride and prejudice stray their
views of each other. These relationships go through many trials such as class, pride, and prejudice.

The Impact of Childcare on Children s Social and Cognitive Development
Introduction
Over the years the long term effects of preschool childcare has been a topic of growing interest. The
use of these programs have grown dramatically over the years, and more than half of all three to five
year olds in the United States attend childcare centers prior to kindergarten (Peisner Feinberg et al.,
2001). Many questions have risen overtime on the quality of childcare centers, and the research on
these issues has been extremely inadequate. Do these early childcare centers have a long term impact

What seemed to have sparked interest in this topic were the inconsistent findings on the issue of social
outcomes. Although it has been found that children who attended childcare programs appeared to be
more socially competent than home reared peers, displays of aggression and resistance to adult
requests were also described among childcare children (Haskins et al., 1985, as cited in Phillips et al.,
1987). Phillips, McCartney and Scarr (1987) believed that these contradictory findings differed due to
the quality of the childcare programs. Because a high percentage of children were spending majority
of their time in a childcare setting, and with those programs ranging in quality, Bermuda was chosen
as the site to further this research (Phillips, McCartney, Scarr, 1987). Nine childcare centers that
accepted children from infancy through preschool agreed to participate in the study. These centers
were chosen in respect to the diversity of the children s family backgrounds and director s experiences
in childcare (Phillips, McCartney, Scarr, 1987). A total of 166 families participated in the study, with
criteria being that the child must be three years or older, and attending one of the target centers for six
months or longer. Of the 166 children, 130 were African American and 36 were Caucasian. Nineteen

Justice Floral Distribution And A Disaster Recovery Plan...
Justice Floral Distribution has successfully been in business for 2 years now. To insure that the
company remains successful we need to create a disaster plan. It has recently come to my attention
that we do not have one and it is crucial that we create one as soon as possible. In case of an
unforeseen event, which can bring our production to a halt our company needs to recover as rapidly as
possible to continue its services to its clients. Not having a disaster recovery plan in place can put the
company at risk of high financial costs, reputation loss and even greater risks to our employees.
Purpose
We need to be prepared in case of an emergency, whether it is a natural disaster, network outages,
active shooter events, data breaches and more. While doing research, I came upon two other types of
plans that are also essential. They are a business continuity plan and a disaster recovery plan.
According to Business Continuity Institute, Business Continuity is: The strategic and tactical
capability of the organization to plan for and respond to incidents and business disruptions in order to
continue business operations at an acceptable predefined level.
In other words, having a Business Continuity Plan ensures that the company is prepared to continue
business procedures after an unforeseen event. This would mean that our employees, building,
contracts, and infrastructure would be able to continue to operate in the event of any type of
disruption.

Battle Of Layac Junction Essay
Battle of Layac Junction
December 7, 1941, Japanese air and naval forces struck multiple areas within the Pacific to include
Kota Bharu in British Malaya, Singora in Thailand, Guam, Hong Kong, and the Philippine Islands.
One of the prominent attacks targeted Pearl Harbor, marking the United States declaration of war
against Japan, in which the United States entered World War II. The capture of the Philippine Islands
served as a crucial effort to the Empire of Japan in ensuring the control of the Southwest Pacific
during World War II. The Philippine Islands served as a natural barrier between Japan and resources
found in East and Southeast Asia. Hence, the impact of the defense of the Philippines Island in Bataan
served in effectively delaying Japan s conquest of South Asia.
Attack on the Philippines was previously contemplated by the joint Army Navy Orange Plan of 1938,
later revised and named War Plan Orange 3 (WPO 3) in 1941. The plan focused on covering
emergency situations that would arise between the US and Japan. Furthermore, a section of this plan

because it is more liquid soluble. Having stress when taking any of the psychoactive drugs only
increases the effects it will have on the brain. Chemicals that normally could not go through the blood

can lead to more serious risk such as drug toxicity and even overdose. Another issue that I found

Why Semiotics Is A Useful Method For Analysing Advertisements
Explain why semiotics is a useful method for analysing advertisements.
Straight away when thinking of signs one would automatically think road signs, star signs or even pub
signs however signs can also be drawings, paintings and photographs as well as words, sounds and
body language. The study of signs and symbols is also known as semiotics. Ferdinand de Saussure
was a Swiss linguist and semiotic whose ideas laid a foundation for many significant developments;
He is one of the founding fathers of semiotics which he called semiology . Semiology also looks into
the use of signs and their interpretation. Semiotics are frequently used in advertising to signify an
advertisers message through the use of signs and symbols for example it plays a significant role on
catching the targets audiences eye by the placement of pictures, texts and logos. The use of semiotics
is very important for a successful advert. Saussure offered a two part model of a sign, he defined a
sign being composed of two parts for example the signifier and the signified. According to Saussure
the signifier was the representation, the word or the image, where as the signified was the meaning,
the concept in which is associated with the signifier. This is why semiotics is so useful in
advertisements because a sign straight away has a connotation behind it and can give away the
message straight away to its audience for example the signifier is always going to be signified. In an

  • 2. How Did Plato Argue The Soul In this brief segment of Plato s work he is trying to argue that the soul, rather than being one, actually has different parts. He claims and tries to justify that the soul must have three different parts to it, each responsible for creating different urges that a person has. On page 111 of Plato s Republic he establishes that the same one thing will not experience opposites within the same one part of itself over the same thing, at the same time. So, therefore if someone finds this occurring in the soul it can be established that the soul is not one but instead made out of different parts. He then shows an example of this occurring in the soul in order to argue the soul does indeed have parts. On pages 114 and 115 he says that someone can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The premise of the same thing will not undergo opposites within the same part of itself in regards to the same thing at the exact same time, so therefore when the soul gives you two opposite urges (e.g. thirsty but you don t want to get a drink) it proves that the soul must have different parts, is a premise that I do indeed agree with. I believe what Plato is saying here as I do not think the same part of one s soul can be responsible for making someone have two completely opposite urges. I also agree with the premise that there is a third part to the soul, the spirit. At first I questioned it thinking that this was indeed one in the same with the rational but then the good point is made that small children are clearly full with spirit yet are not rational so therefore they cannot be one in the same. This argument sold me on the third part of the soul. The one argument I couldn t get on board with was when Plato wrote that thirst is just for drink, and not one of a specific kind. I think that personally one can be craving a specific type of drink, regardless of environment, (e.g. orange juice) and their thirst will not be quenched by any drink but by only the drink they are craving. Plato makes it seem that one cannot urge a specific drink but only drink in general. Although I do disagree with that specific part, in the end the overall argument was ... The paper itself analyzes the history, geography, education, language, economy, and politics of the Democratic People s Republic of Korea known simply as: North Korea. Group 4 chose this particular country out of curiosity and the want to find out what the nation was like. Not many facts are known about North Korea and its shady past. This project explores everything from the difficult relationships between the Korean people and their government, to the famines and floods that threatened the entire survival of the country. The research has shed light on the corruption of the North Korean government and the reign of ruthless leaders such as Kim Il Sung and his son Kim Jong Il. The politics of North Korea have been questionable at best in the nation s history. Finally they are making progress to renew laws that better fit into North Korean society, but the process is slow. Change does not come to North Korea quickly. This paper will delve into the little known aspects of North Korea. Hopefully, a better understanding of the country s characteristics can benefit both the neighboring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I started out as a conductor at an intermodal switching facility outside of Salt Lake City. We d pull in trains from all over the country, break them apart, consolidate the freight, and build other trains. It was great until I screwed up and took a management position. Then it became no fun very quickly (Sturgill Simpson Quotes). The foundation of railroad conducting is in the hands of laborers. This career is for those who need to keep busy and interested throughout the day. As one prepares for a future in the field of railroad conducting, one must consider the history, the educational requirements, the duties and responsibilities, the benefits, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most conductors started out as steamboat or coastal packet captains before working a job on the railroad (Lives on the Railroad). Steamboats and ships were the means of transportation of the time for passengers and freight until the invention of the railroad. With the expansion of the railroad, one of the conductor s job responsibilities was to keep the train on schedule (Lives on the Railroad). The railroad became a popular alternative for freight transportation and for passengers ( Railroad Conductors 279). The railroad offered a faster convenience for travel. Conductors sold tickets to passengers and counted the tickets to keep records in order (Lives on the Railroad). Maintaining proper records was important for business. Also, making a list of the names that the tickets were sold were important so that one could be found on a train. It was also important for the conductors to keep the passengers safe from the weather elements and to rushing sparks from the firebox that helped power the locomotive (Railroad Conductors 279). Most trains had open windows or no covers on them exposing all of the passengers to all of the rain, snow, or wind. Today, conductors are responsible for the operation of the train. Conductors are required to have knowledge of how the train operates including the engine, the cargo, the cars, and the trains signal systems (Railroad Conductors 279). • 8. Impact Of Slavery On The Indian Ocean Slavery in the Western Hemisphere has had an unmistakable impact on the the world and for those who live in the United States of America, it s impact is still seen today. For the most part this impact has been negative on the United States seeing as though it brought about immense racial tension between blacks and whites which is still today, crippling the nation. This type of slavery did not allow for upward mobility in the slave community. Seeing that Slavery across the Indian Ocean was not based upon race, and more upon social class and sexuality, there was more of a sense of upward mobility in the Indian Ocean slave trade than there was in the transatlantic slave trade which involved more brutal treatment based upon race. Today, slavery is known as one of the most inhumane acts of mankind. Slaves were brought over from their countries, mainly from the western and southern coast of Africa, to work for the Europeans without pay. Not only were they without pay, they were brought over in boats, packed on all decks of the ship in such a way that was comparable to a can of sardines. Slaves were taken and shipped to countries in South America and North America, to work on plantations to harvest plants such as, Tobacco, Cotton, Sugarcane, and Indigo. These slaves worked 20 hour days on these plantations and were rewarded with slave quarters which were in most cases in unlivable conditions. No matter what state of health a slave was in, they were expected to work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Importance Of Being Earnest Analysis The play, The Importance of Being Earnest written by Oscar Wilde, describes two main protagonists living in 1890 s England, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff (Algy), who, for the sake of love, both use the same name (Ernest) to conceal their true identity. Algy has a cousin named Gwendolen Fairfax, whom Jack is in deep love with. On the other hand, Algy falls in love with Jack s ward, who is Cecily Cardew. At first, everything goes well, until both Jack and Algy end up together in the country, leading to a comedy of mistaken identities. The play uses satire to ridicule the issues such as money, marriage, and social status during the Victorian Age. The upper class society of the Victorian period can be exemplified by the characters to give us knowledge and understanding of the play. One scene where Lady Bracknell disapproves of Algernon s proposal to Cecily because she thinks that Cecily does not possess a lot of money nor social status. As such, Wilde believes that the Upper class Victorian society should not take trivial matters such as money, marriage, social status, and appearance seriously. According to Wilde, Lady Bracknell disapproves Algernon s proposal to Cecily because she thinks that Cecily is not nearly good enough for Algernon. This is evident by the line: Ah! A life crowded with incident, I see; though perhaps somewhat too exciting for a young girl. I am not myself in favour of premature experiences (Wilde). As Lady Bracknell is the quintessence of society in the Victorian era, she believes that social status and wealth is of the utmost importance and that marrying someone without money is intolerable. Jack, knowing that Lady Bracknell is a materialistic person, persuades her sarcastically, Oh! About a hundred and thirty thousand pounds in the Funds. That is all. Goodbye, Lady Bracknell. So pleased to have seen you . (Wilde) Lady Bracknell changes her mind immediately after knowing that Cecily is wealthy and has large funds: A moment, Mr. Worthing. A hundred and thirty thousand pounds! And in the Funds! Miss Cardew seems to me a most attractive young lady, now that I look at her (Wilde). I will also include my predictions and recommendation of how these issues should be addressed by the police and prosecutor in the future. • 11. Art Museum And Its Effects On Sexual History Attending the world s largest erotic art museum has encouraged me to view sexuality with a more opened minded perception. Sexuality is very diverse for instance, in the way sexual acts are performed and carried out. Historically, it seems that individuals are biologically and genetically programmed to seek out sexual behaviors with others. Either for the means of reproduction or their own personal pleasure, but one thing is very evident sex is pleasurable and enjoyable for most. However, cultural restraints have had the biggest effect on sexual history and throughout the museum that is a fundamental element of human sexuality that is apparent in the many paintings and sculptures. The entire collection properly displays sexuality through the race, culture, religion, political affiliations, and historical time. It was exhilarating to observe many artist viewpoints of sexual behavior. For instance, in the lithograph, titled Garden of Earthly Delights , by Hieronymous Bosch, in 1500 A.D. the portrait portrayed elements of the earth entwined with sexuality. A fascinating aspect is that humans and animals are sexual creatures, and the earth represents the land and the basis for which all sexual behaviors are carried on. It is also interesting that the piece not only represents behaviors occurring at day, but also at night, and the elements within the picture such as the colors utilized are very representative of the artist perception within the cultural norms of that time. ... Loyalty While I m an atypical U.S. consumer who doesn t buy into marketing hype, I do have strong product/service loyalty affiliations. I ll try to keep my Journal entry under 1000 words! I like to revisit the meaning of familiar words. Merriam Webster (n.d.) defines loyalty as, The quality or state or an instance of being loyal . This is exactly what brand loyalty and loyalty programs are trying to create: an ongoing experience with multiple touch points that captures followers and keeps them engaged through rewards, added value, and prestige . The goal is to lengthen the lifetime value of the customer (Tanner Raymond, 2010, p. 284) which helps to maximize profits. My Loyalties For some brands, my loyalty grew from happenstance and remains so because of switching costs. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stradivari was actually well in touch with the results of other impressive instruments that had been constructed before his. He was able to gain experience by comparing the many instruments built by the early Brescian and Cremonese makers by deducing from them the aspects that made them unfavorable and applying these aspects to his own creative works. Every generation has contributed something to the construction of musical instruments, and Stradivari combined these centuries of contributions to create something astounding that opened up a new chapter in history. While it is a known fact that Stradivari got a lot of inspiration from previous violinmakers (Visconti, who is a well known violinist, is said to have given advice to this master of violin construction), people insist that he was a natural born genius, so much so that he has been claimed to be a superhuman . Based on scientific principles, many different works have been written based on the unsurpassed tonal qualities found in his instruments. However, there has also been a daily study of Stradivari s works that were compared to those of the craftsmen who came before him. When put to the test it was found that the density of the bellies and backs of Stradivari s instruments were made based on the principles of Gasparo, in addition to the result of a gradual progression, which Maggini and Amatis had in common with him. Those who have examined his work have noted that Stradivari adjusted the thickness of his instruments, but there is no indication that he used any principles as a guide other than what has been derived from the practices of his forerunners. The FFM was influenced by Cattell s 16 factor model (1957) and shares traits with many other personality theories such as Eysenck s PEN model. There has been an ongoing debate discussing how many factors appropriately represent the brain structure of personality, suggestions have varied from 2 7, recently Almagor et al. Costa Mcrae (1992) claim that the FFM is the best theory of personality, however, the model has received much criticism. Through examining different aspects of the model its credibility can be explored. Universality is the core basis of a credible theory, studies have been found to replicate the five factors of personality repeatedly. June 2010 Within the context of pastoral literature, change is typically seen as a destructive force, intrinsic with the movement away from a harmony with the natural world towards modernisation and corruption. In Brideshead Revisited the same pattern appears to be followed; moving from the peaceful harmony of Sebastian and Charles life in Oxford into corruption and turmoil or the shifting power balance between the social classes, from the nobility to the lower classes. Waugh describes their first encounter with the girls at May Mayfield s as a sickly child and Death s Head , names foreshadowing the downfall and deterioration that will result. It is as a result of this night that Sebastian is arrested and tried for drunk driving, and introduces them to the realities of adult life. It is because of this episode that the Marchmain family are shamed in the newspaper, perhaps worsening Lady Marchmains over reaction to Sebastian s drinking later in the novel. This illustrates clearly how even in these youthful days that Charles cherishes so much, there was chaos which corrupted the serene life with Sebastian which he chooses not to dwell on. Waugh presents corruption in terms of the hierarchy of society, with the nobility exclusively privileged to positions of power, as nought but as negative through his portrayal of Hooper. Charles states in the prologue that Hooper is a symbol to me of Young Britain ; notably Hooper is not presented as an overly inspiring, promising or likeable character. The Role of Self Perceived Prototypicality in Self Verification of Group Members In many of previous theories and research, the concept of prototypicality has been highly relevant in examining the nature of group membership and inter and intra group behaviours (Kleef et al., 2007; Steinel et al., 2010; Ellemers Jetten, 2013). Based on self categorisation theory, prototypicality is defined as the position within the group according to the degree to which one represents the group s most typical characteristics (Oakes, 1996; Gómez, Jetten Swann, 2014). An individual is considered to be a core member when they possess most of the defining features of the group, and a peripheral group member when they display only some of the features. Numerous ... • 28. Reebok Pump Synthesis Essay Reebok has advertised their new shoe, called the Pump. In doing so they use diction, sentence structure (syntax), and visual images to appeal the Pump to readers. This makes the ad stand out. It makes the ad memorable. The ad benefits from them because they are used in communicating the ad s message. The ad s message is that the Pump is perfect for any sport, and any training, no matter how vigorous. The ad has unique diction choices. Diction is the word choices used in the ad, which helps to communicate the ad s message. It uses personification, an allusion, connotation and denotation. Personification is used in the big sentence in the upper middle of the front side, ...shoe that adapts to you. The effect of the personification is that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The visual imagery in the ad are the various pictures in the ad, and anything that is not written out. An example of visual imagery within the ad is the picture on the front right side of JJ Watt dragging a sled while wearing the Pump shoes. This picture gives added meaning to the shoes. Usually, such drills as the one depicted are performed with cleats by football players for the added grip provided. However, in the picture in the ad, JJ Watt does the drill with a pair of the Pump shoes. Because he is doing it in those shoes, this example of visual imagery is showing how these shoes, the Pump, can replace cleats because of how good they are and how good grip they provide. That their grip is incredibly good and reliable, thus making the shoe, the Pump, appear even better. This example of visual imagery then contributes to the author s purpose. Because it shows how these shoes can be as good as cleats with their great and reliable grip, and maybe even better than cleats because JJ Watt is using them for his shoes in the drill rather than using cleats, it enforces the statement that the shoes the Pump are perfect. The Pump is perfect for whatever the reader needs them for, no matter what it is. Visual imagery is also used on the front side, being more prominent on the left side, but it goes across the whole page. It is the fire. The fire is an example of visual imagery, making the entire ad seem much more intense. It makes things seem to get heated up, as if you were using the Pump in a workout and you were working really hard. This example of visual imagery contributes to the author s purpose. Sports can be intense and they usually are intense, much like the fire depicted in the visual imagery example. This starts to accelerate the blood flow, as if something is about to happen or you want to do something, like work out or run. This leads to the question of what you should wear while doing that, and the ad suggests that you wear the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many mathematicians worked and developed the system of math to be known as the algebra of today. European countries did not obtain information on algebra until relatively later years of the 12th century. After algebra was discovered in Europe, mathematicians put the information to use in very remarkable ways. Also, algebraic and geometric ways of thinking were considered to be two separate parts of math and were not unified until the mid 17th century. In 1145AD, Al Khwarizmi s book was translated by Robert Chester, which made it possible for algebra to be introduced to Europe. Sir Isaac Newton was a very famous mathematician, English physicist, astronomer, philosopher, and alchemist. During his period of study, he used algebra to describe universal gravitation, develop the laws of motion, found orbits of the planets to be elliptical, discovered that light was made of particles, discovered the rate of cooling objects, and the binomial theorem. • 30. Norman Rockwell s See America First Norman Rockwell s painting, See America First, features a Native American man wrapped in a red blanket standing by his mailbox. In his hand is a flyer that reads, See AMERICA FIRST, a popular slogan in the early twentieth century intended to encourage Americans to spend their money on tourist attractions within the United States rather than traveling to Europe and investing in their culture. Discarded by the man s feet is the envelope in which the flyer came, indicating that, excited to have received mail, the man opened the envelope immediately. This excitement, however, was short lived. The man s frown and raised, drawn together eyebrows suggest he is disappointed with the contents of the envelope. His closed off body language indicates a sort of fragility that elicits the audience s sympathy. Standing next to his worn down mailbox, the man s weary eyes stare almost accusingly at the audience. The Native American man s piercing gaze sends a clear message: Native Americans are left behind by American nationalism. Interdisciplinary Understanding/Solution In studying the problem of hydrilla Florida waterways, it was apparent that management of this invasive species must take an interdisciplinary approach. The economic indicators with the possibility of lost revenue, water usage, and habitat biodiversity drive the need for control. According to Corn, at the federal level there is a need for comprehensive legislature to address invasive species. The current process in reporting an invasive species problem can run into time constraints working through the many agencies to achieve funding. A rapid response is desired to quickly remove the plant before it spreads beyond the ability to control. • 34. Separation Between Classes In Pride And Prejudice And My... Movie Text Analysis: Class Separation between classes has been evident ever since societies have been begun. At some points in history, the differences in the classes were more noticeable than other times. The movies, Pride and Prejudice and My Fair Lady, represent different classes, and how they interact with each other. Even though the movies are set in different time periods, the interactions between the classes are very similar. Although both movies show the differences of the society classes, My Fair Lady shows the differences of the classes in a more obvious manner than Pride and Prejudice which tends to show the differences in a more subdued manner. In Joe Wright s 2005 Pride and Prejudice, the setting is around the beginning of the 1800 s in rural England. The audience is introduced to the Bennett family that includes five unwed daughters. Since the daughters have no inheritable rights, they must be married before their father dies. Their rural town does not have many suitors in it, before the rich Mr. Bingley rents a large country home with his sister, and a good friend, Mr. Darcy. Seeing an opportunity, Mrs. Bennett makes sure Mr. Bingley is introduced to her daughters. Love kindles between Mr. Bingley and the oldest daughter, Jane, but misconception and class separates them. The second eldest, Elizabeth, and Mr. Darcy let pride and prejudice stray their views of each other. These relationships go through many trials such as class, pride, and prejudice. The ... The Impact of Childcare on Children s Social and Cognitive Development Kaitlyn Fillmore The Pennsylvania State University The Impact of Childcare on Children s Social and Cognitive Development Introduction Over the years the long term effects of preschool childcare has been a topic of growing interest. The use of these programs have grown dramatically over the years, and more than half of all three to five year olds in the United States attend childcare centers prior to kindergarten (Peisner Feinberg et al., 2001). What seemed to have sparked interest in this topic were the inconsistent findings on the issue of social outcomes. Although it has been found that children who attended childcare programs appeared to be more socially competent than home reared peers, displays of aggression and resistance to adult requests were also described among childcare children (Haskins et al., 1985, as cited in Phillips et al., 1987). Phillips, McCartney and Scarr (1987) believed that these contradictory findings differed due to the quality of the childcare programs. Because a high percentage of children were spending majority of their time in a childcare setting, and with those programs ranging in quality, Bermuda was chosen as the site to further this research (Phillips, McCartney, Scarr, 1987). Nine childcare centers that accepted children from infancy through preschool agreed to participate in the study. These centers were chosen in respect to the diversity of the children s family backgrounds and director s experiences in childcare (Phillips, McCartney, Scarr, 1987). A total of 166 families participated in the study, with criteria being that the child must be three years or older, and attending one of the target centers for six months or longer. To insure that the company remains successful we need to create a disaster plan. It has recently come to my attention that we do not have one and it is crucial that we create one as soon as possible. In case of an unforeseen event, which can bring our production to a halt our company needs to recover as rapidly as possible to continue its services to its clients. Not having a disaster recovery plan in place can put the company at risk of high financial costs, reputation loss and even greater risks to our employees. Purpose We need to be prepared in case of an emergency, whether it is a natural disaster, network outages, active shooter events, data breaches and more. While doing research, I came upon two other types of plans that are also essential. They are a business continuity plan and a disaster recovery plan. According to Business Continuity Institute, Business Continuity is: The strategic and tactical capability of the organization to plan for and respond to incidents and business disruptions in order to continue business operations at an acceptable predefined level. In other words, having a Business Continuity Plan ensures that the company is prepared to continue business procedures after an unforeseen event. This would mean that our employees, building, contracts, and infrastructure would be able to continue to operate in the event of any type of disruption. Disaster Recovery on ... One of the prominent attacks targeted Pearl Harbor, marking the United States declaration of war against Japan, in which the United States entered World War II. The capture of the Philippine Islands served as a crucial effort to the Empire of Japan in ensuring the control of the Southwest Pacific during World War II. • 39. Why Semiotics Is A Useful Method For Analysing Advertisements Explain why semiotics is a useful method for analysing advertisements. Straight away when thinking of signs one would automatically think road signs, star signs or even pub signs however signs can also be drawings, paintings and photographs as well as words, sounds and body language. The study of signs and symbols is also known as semiotics. Ferdinand de Saussure was a Swiss linguist and semiotic whose ideas laid a foundation for many significant developments; He is one of the founding fathers of semiotics which he called semiology . Semiology also looks into the use of signs and their interpretation. Semiotics are frequently used in advertising to signify an advertisers message through the use of signs and symbols for example it plays a significant role on catching the targets audiences eye by the placement of pictures, texts and logos. The use of semiotics is very important for a successful advert. Saussure offered a two part model of a sign, he defined a sign being composed of two parts for example the signifier and the signified. According to Saussure the signifier was the representation, the word or the image, where as the signified was the meaning, the concept in which is associated with the signifier. This is why semiotics is so useful in advertisements because a sign straight away has a connotation behind it and can give away the message straight away to its audience for example the signifier is always going to be signified.
